Thinkpad X220 X230 wake from sleep issues??

Question: Thinkpad X220 X230 wake from sleep issues??

I am looking to buy either an X220 or X230 Thinkpad laptop and have been reading the forums here for information about wake from sleep issues for these two machines. I have found a lot on the X220 - seems to be a common problem, so I am now thinking that isn't going to be my choice. My questions for those who may have experienced this with an X230: -is the wake from sleep a common issue with the X230 laptop?-is this more of a SSD issue than a regular HHD?-is this related to the amount of RAM installed?-is this more of a Win 7 issue? If so, any version that is more susceptible? I had an HP laptop that finally was unusable due to this issue and want to avoid that with a new laptop. I really like the features and size of the x230 - and that I can still get Win 7. Any input on how often the X230 has this type of issue - and any solutions that have worked - would be greatly appreciated, as I really am reluctant to have history repeated with this wake from sleep issue. Thanks!HL

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! Been pulling my hair out for a week with this. I am an advanced user who is totally stumped. This is a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional x64 with all drivers installed from lenovo.com x230 3435-22U having issues where if it goes to sleep. When the machine wakes up, SOMETIMES it allows me to move the mouse with no issues and continue to use the PC.  SOMETIMES, I have to use the touchscreen to move the mouse and then can continue using the trackpad. and SOMETIMES, it is totally frozen at the log-in screen and then powers down suddenly. Hardware diagnostics all check out just fine. I have also switched SATA in BIOS to 'compatibility' and upgraded the BIOS as recommended. I have also disabled AMT inside the BIOS. I'm really stumped here. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have read in the forums that there are some issues with waking the X230 - and other laptops - from sleep mode. So far, I don't see a solution. Up until now, when I use the Fn-F4 combination to put my x230 to sleep and close the lid, it wakes when the lid is opened. It also seems to wake using the Fn key if I put it to sleep and don't close the lid. But now there are two sceanrios where I can't get it to wake. If I leave it on and it goes into sleep mode by itself, the Fn key will not always wake it. New this morning, it wouldn't wake even though I had put it to sleep properly. Fn key didn't work, closing and opening the lid didn't work. This doesn't  happen all of the time - so that is the mystery, but it does seem to happen when it had been asleep overnight or for a longer amount of time. I am wondering if maybe it is something running in the background that is hanging it when it sleeps on its own, but this new issue of it not waking even when I had put it to sleep manually is a bigger concern. I usually make a point to put it to sleep - but if I walk away and leave it and it sleeps on its own - that  had been when I can't wake it - now there are two scenarios, and in each case, I need to restart it. I have also noticed that sometimes, it will have the sleep icon glowing on the lid, but after I open the lid and it doesn't wake, the battery charge light is also lit - even if it is not on charge, and wasn't lit before. Today the batter... Read more

Hello, My X230 wake up alone after put into sleep! This is a big issue when you store it into a case, since it will heat a lot due to the lack of ventilation. I initially thought this could be related to transportation (wag and jumping), but I've seen it happen even in a complete stationary position. Any ideias on the roote cause and how to solve it, please? Thks

Answer:X230 - Wake up alone from Sleep

Hi, bsantos9

This could be due to Windows Update or some other application having a setting that tells the machine to come back on. I found this article on Microsoft's website that goes into more detail on how to check for this and how to disable it, if this is the case.

Hope it helps,
Adam

After I sleep my X220 and go to wake it up sometimes (maybe once a week?) it will refuse to wake, and when I push the power button the processor activity light, keyboard light, capslock light, and the backlights for power, mute etc. will flash intermittently every 7 seconds or so. The only way to fix get it out of this is to hold down the power button to shut it down and restart. Anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks

After loading the Windows 10 update my X220 won't wake after going into sleep mode.  If I induce sleep mode with the function key I seem to be able to wake it, but if the machine goes to sleep on it's own it hangs showing the windows background. Nothing I do (function keys, enter key, mouse, power key) will bring up the log in page.   I've disabled the sleep timer for the machine when it's plugged in, but don't want to do so for it when it's on battery.   Are there any solutions from Lenovo or from Windows that you're aware of?  This problem did not exist when I ran Windows 7. Specs:  I'm running an i7 core at 2.7 Ghz with 8G of ram.  Less than half of the hard drive capacity is used.

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

Model 2306 x230 Windows 8 I installed three  windows updates (KB2687455, KB2855336 and KB890830  ) last week. Since then, my computer has shutdown problem and sleep problem. Everytime I turned off my pc at least 10 mins and once I restart the computer, windows will show an error message. If I put my pc into sleep mode, it will not resume unless I hold the power button for ten seconds. I uninstalled those updates and problems were resovled. Anybody has the same problem?  I appreciate any help or suggestions~~~. Thanks

Answer:Shutdown and Sleep issue thinkpad x230

I have that machine. I have it fully up to date. I have KB2855336 installed. KB890830 is Malicious Software Removal which has run on this machine. KB2687455 is for Office 2010 which I do not have (I have Office 2013). I am not having these issues at all. See if running SFC /SCANNOW might help. .... JDH

My T420i won't wake up after going to sleep (using Fn F4 or close the laptop or time out).  The computer was wiped clean and reinstalled with only Windows 7 professional and some Levono softwares.  BIOS, windows and all drivers are up to date.  The only way to get it back is hold the power button to reboot it.  When it reboots, i get improperly windows shut down error.

Any chance Lenovo Power Management driver or Hotkey Features package are not installed? With those applications Fn key should work for the laptop resume.

Question says it all for the most part.  Just got my Yoga 260.  Works great expect it will NEVER wake from sleep.  this is a huge problem obviously as I have to do a hard reboot by holding hte power button in until it dies then press again to boot the machine. power light blinks just as it should in sleep but nothing will allow it to wake except holding power button down doing a hard shutdown then reboot.  Anyone have a fix for this?  Thanks.

After a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary edition, I had an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga not resuming from sleep, requiring a hard reboot every time. I made sure to perform the updates in the support article ThinkPad Yoga cannot wake up from sleep mode but those didn't help. The ultimate solution was to downgrade the Intel Management Engine Interface driver to the 9.x version from Lenovo's site. The default Windows 10 installation installed version 11.x of that driver, which apparently causes this issue with failing to resume. (Note that the Lenovo System Update tool does not identify this as a needed update since the Lenovo driver version is older, so you have to download and apply the older driver manually.) After doing this, the system now sleeps and resumes perfectly. Hopefully this can help someone else, and maybe the above support article could be updated to include this advice too.

Hello, I have read other people having the same issue. Suggestion seems to be update the bios. But here it comes a second big issue, I can not update bios! I tried from "BIOS Update Utility for Windows 10 (64-bit), Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Thin..." it starts the procedure but then it re-boots ending up in an (apparently) sleep state with the blinking led. The only way to start again is pressing the button for several seconds, but then once checking the current bios version I realize it did not really update.  I don't know how many times have tried this, getting crazy. Please help!

If go into sleep mode, either my closing lid, holding power button, or using the  Windows 10  Start/Power/Sleep option, then after going into sleep mode, never will come out of it.  Doesn't matter if I try to come out of it 5 seconds later or an hour later, just blank screen with power button stuck on green.  No activity, just frozen. I have updated to latest bios  v1.20 and also updated the display driver.   Please help, just got this computer and crazy can't even use it because can easily go into sleep mode if walk away, etc.

Answer:Thinkpad L450 won't wake up after sleep - Windows ...

There have been a been a number of systems that don't resume from sleep under Windows 10 properly as expected, so I don't think this is likely to be a problem specific to the L450.  Sounds like updating the BIOS was a good step. Have you tried to update the Windows 10 power management driver?  That might be a good next step if you haven't already tried it.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-L-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-L45... Worth a shot..

Hi,In the last few months or so (possibly after I updated the BIOS), when I put my T430 into sleep mode when plugged in, it does not wake up. If it is not pluged in and I put it to sleep (in both cases by closing the lid) then it wakes up fine. When plugged in, I changed the power settings so that it will hibernate when plugged in but it takes long to do this so I prefer if the sleep mode were to work again. I'm running Windows 7 Professional. BIOS Version/Date LENOVO G1ET94WW (2.54 ), 22/04/2013Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2901 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)BIOS Version/Date LENOVO G1ET94WW (2.54 ), 22/04/2013System Model 2344CTOIntel(R) HD Graphics 4000, Driver version 9.17.10.2843Display Driver: NVIDIA NVS 5400M, Driver version 9.18.13.697Network adapter: Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection, Driver version 11.15.16.0Centrino-Advanced N6205, driver version 15.4.1.1 I looked in the forums and there are similar problems but can't find a solution. Thanks, Shafiq

Answer:ThinkPad T430 - Cannot wake up from sleep if plugged in

Hi, Shafiq

I have a few questions to gain more clarification about your issue: FIrstly, does the issue arise when you attempt to wake the system from sleep while plugged in, or is it an issue where if you put it to sleep while plugged in, you will not be able to wake the machine?

Also, do you use Windows for the power settings or are you using Lenovo Power Manager?

Thanks in advance,Adam

I bought a new Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM/Broadwell). Gorgeous machine, but it refuses to wake from sleep on a keypress or click on the trackpad. It will wake up if I close and re-open it. I updated all of the drivers and the bios using Lenovo's utilities and Windows System Update. When that didn't work, I tried updating the Intel Integrated graphics drivers and GeForce drivers with the latest packages from Intel and NVIDIA, downgraded the Intel Management Engine to version 10, and disabled hybrid sleep. No dice. So I resorted to a clean re-install of Windows 10 from a USB key and updated all of the Lenovo drivers (again) using ThinkVantage System Update. "Allow this device to wake the computer" was and is checked in the Device Manager for both the keyboard and trackpad. Is there anything I can do to get it working? Only a couple days left to figure this out before my return period ends.

Hi, I've got two thinkpad lenovo S1, one works fine when going to sleep but with the other one I've been having a problem for a number of months now and it's becoming more frustating. Basically, I'm using the laptop then I leave it for doing something else and when I come, it's gone to sleep. Fine, the problem is that I can see the 'red light' blinking but if I press any key or I press the power button for a little while the laptop doesn't wake up. It just keeps with the blinking red light.  Sometimes, not many, it does wake up but the others, I have to press the power button for a long period, switch the laptop off and start again, losing all my sessions and opened windows in the process.  Any idea what could be causing this issue and what I can try to have it sorted? Thank you guys!

I am still fighting with "260 will not wake up from sleep problem" described in my post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/ThinkPad-Yoga-260-cannot-wake-up-from-s... I tried everything, fresh restore (5 times), boot from linux live, the laptop can't manage correct sleep, hybernation and even a simple shutdown. I can only switch on and off by pressing power button for more than 10 seconds. I tried to update the bios (from the lenovo website or from a bootable ISO) but it does just half of the job, when it tries to restart do finalize the process it goes again in a frozen state and can only restart by pressing power button for long time. Ok my laptop is out of warranty, but this has been clearly caused by a lenovo update, before that the lapotp was performing perfectly. There are several people with thinkpad reporting the same problem, lot of them with my same 260. The last one IDENTICAL problem 4 days ago: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Yoga-260-Does-not-wake-up/m-p/3930549 This is unacceptable, I went to a lenovo assistance and they asked me 750euros to change the motherboard. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER LENOVO. I would like to hear an opinion from a Lenovo operator reading this forum, if any.

Hi all, There are a number of posts regarding issues with power save: Not able to go to sleep mode, reboot etc.  I have completely lost an overview of where this solution was presented, so here's a recap of what worked for me: I have been digging through many posts on both here and on some of the other manufacturer's forum pages. I think the problem is in a large part related to the intel management engine version 11. Downgrading this to version 10 seem to solve the power management issue completely.  It isn't difficult to fix and should take you about 10 minutes.Note: I am writing this guide from a danish version of windows 10, so some of the translations may seem odd / wrong on a native english windows 10.Note: Your PC might explode, earth might be invaded by aliens if you follow my steps, so do it at you own risk, I am not responsible for any troubles you might run into afterwards! Go to Settings -> System -> Apps and functions. Find Intel Management Engine Interface and uninstall it.Go to http://support.lenovo.com/dk/da/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-... and download the exeInstall it and reboot. It's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad  X230.  Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging.  I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging.  But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time.  Then I explored the battery settings a little bit.  I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity."   It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover? Please help!!

Answer:Thinkpad X230 Battery issues

Well, a few things. 1.  The warranty you mention sounds like it is for the system.  The system and battery typically have different warranty terms.  Unless of course you did order an additional battery warranty. 2.  However, the base battery warranty is one year, so if you contact them they should get you a replacement since you are only a few months into ownership. Good luck!

Question: X220 Sleep Issues

X220 WIFI SLEEP DOESN'T WORK AFTER SLEEP INC BRIGHTNESS CONTROLS> PLEASE HELP TRIED EVERYTHING!

Hello,

I have an X220 model 4291. Windows 7 64bit.

I use the sleep feature consistently. I have rebuilt it at least 10 times now with different driver orders and have read many web pages relating to this issue. Its taken a massive amount of my time & I'm about to give up and just get rid of it. So far no driver installation order has resolved the situation & I am at the latest software levels inc the bios.

I've also unchecked the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and messed around with the other power management options to no avail.

Currently only the Lenevo applications sit on top of the base build and no other applications have been installed.

So wondering if anyone has a miracle cure who had the same issue and can HELP ME as its driving me absolutely nuts.

Cheers,
Sparky

Answer:X220 Sleep Issues

The issue occurs when the laptop is put into sleep mode and upon resume you lose the wifi card. So if I put the computer into sleep manually using the "FN F4" keys or if it goes to sleep by the parameters set in the power options i.e.. Sleep in 15 minutes. You can tell that there is a problem by looking at the sleep light when the lid is closed. This for a while is lit and then at some point is totally switches off, while it is lit if you resume the wifi comes back okay. However when the sleep light is no longer lit, 100% of the time when you resume using the power button, opening the lid doesn't seem to restart it, there is no wifi and the only way to re-enable it is to reboot the machine. No "FN F5" keys work and the OS says the card is switched off, "try switching on and reconnecting". The manual switch on the side of the laptop also does nothing. The brightness controls also are affected and cannot be adjusted as reported in the other threads. There was some mention of installing lenovo drivers and up to date versions in various orders but I still haven't managed to crack it. The WIFI is also slow on this laptop and during iplayer viewing I get insufficient bandwidth problems. Only this laptop suffers and our other household pcs/laptops which are much older do not suffer from this even if you are directly opposite the router. The card is an Intel 6205. If I need to rebuild again that's fine but I've never had to rebuild a machi... Read more

Hi all,I want to notice to you about newest version of ThinkPad P50 Video Features (NVIDIA N16S / Quadro N16P) for Windows 10 (64-bit): The intel hd graphics 530 driver (both version download from lenovo site or from intel site) crashed when waking up from sleep. The solution is rollback to previous version of intel graphics or turn off auto sleep from windows power manager. @Lenovo: I hope you will keep minimum 3 previous versions after upload newest version to support website (as you have done before) because this case can happen in the future. Thank you!

I am using S230u (i7 CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD+24GB SSD) with Windows 8 x64 for half a year now and so far everything has worked just fine. I have IRST enabled and when I put it in sleep mode, it automatically saves the state to SSD after an hour. That has worked great so far - I can put it to sleep for short periods and get it up instantly and if I put it to sleep for longer it will save to SSD and not use battery - when I wake it up, it flashes the red LED for a while and system comes back online. However, this Friday I installed BIOS update - updated from 1.57.1.57 to 1.61.1.61 (at least according to System Update history). Since Friday when I try to wake it up it does not work if the sleep is longer than an hour (or so) and the state was stored to SSD. The red led keeps flashing, but nothing happens - after around 1-2 minutes the system reboots and Windows loads again. I want to downgrade the BIOS and doublecheck that this is the issue - perhaps it is some other Windows or Lenovo patch, so I want to be sure. I have already located the BIOS drivers downloads (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032000) and am wondering if downgrading BIOS to check if this is the issue can break anything with my laptop?

Answer:ThinkPad S230u won't wake up after IRST sleep since BIOS update

Just an update - I went ahead and downgraded BIOS. Had to first disable the check in BIOS that disallows downgrading, but after that it worked fine. Also, now my laptop is able to recover from the sleep. So I am confident this is a BIOS issue. If there is any information I can provide to help troubleshoot and fix the issue, I will be more than happy to do it.

Hello, Community So my 4 day old laptop is having sleep/wake problems. If the screen sleeps because of the 10 minute timer I have it on, it CANNOT be woken up. The screen stays black, but everything else is "on." The Fn key is green and the LED on the ThinkPad logo is always on, not pulsing. Nothing I do will wake up the screen. I have to do a hard shutdown and then turn it back on. Once it's back on all apps/windows are closed and I need to restart everything manually. This problem also occurs if I put it to sleep by closing it, or by going to power>sleep and closing the laptop. Basically I keep having to hard shut down to get the screen to wake up.  Other than this problem, I love the laptop. So it sucks that it's having this issue.  Help..please.

Lenovo, what is this? This never happened on my Asus computer so why is it happening on my 'premium' mobile workstation? Is there a fix that is being prepared for this, or is this falling on deaf ears? When the computer goes into a hibernating/sleep mode, it doesn't fully awake from sleep mode. The monitor is left in a black screen state, while other components of the computer are in a functioning state. In order to rectify the problem, a physical shutdown is required (and then physically booting the computer up again). Is there a planned fix for this? This device is only 3 days old. I can easily return it if this persists and this falls on deaf ears.

Hi All, My first post here...sadly it's not in praise of the thinkpad line. We have two IBM Thinkpad R50e's at work, and was quite impressed with the build quality. Up to now they're holding up quite nicely...which is what made me want a thinkpad. i finally got my hands on a thinkpad x230 last week....and when i opened it, the plastic bezel on the top right corner of the lid popped out On closer inspection i noticed that the top right corner flexed, right where the strip of plastic at the edge meets the LCD display, and with it the bezel. At rest the two pieces don't line up properly. The leftmost corner of the lid showed no flexing at all. i seriously doubt if this was caused by mishandling during shipping. The box only had minor bumps, and none of them seem to line up with where the damage was. i've gone to the local service center here, who informed me that this isn't covered by the warranty. i am currently awaitnig a quote for the part that i will have to pay out of my own pocket, on top of the price i paid for thinkpad "quality". On top of that, there's this annoying battery wiggle. The service center that this is normal...which is quite disappointing, since the battery on my old Asus EEEPC1000, after all these years, has not shown even the slightest wiggle after all these years of abuse. Needless to say i am very disappointed. Sorry to say this but this will most likely be my first and last Lenovo. i am willing to pay a premium for qu... Read more

Answer:thinkpad x230 build quality issues

There's an explanation for the battery wiggle, all systems are like that. Even the X131e. My old laptop used as a workstation has a bad battery, but I took it out so it's temperature can stay at a stable level. I find the "used by NASA" a total bluff as the Space Station relies on older ThinkPad systems, since they were modified to be in 0 gravity environments. Sorry to hear that your X230's bezel popped out, mine doesn't suffer this so I'm presuming it's batch was a little lemony. I had another X230 which I returned for a full refund and waited a year and ordered again. It's a little ridiculous, because Lenovo normally sells nice systems but they're cheapening out over the years.

Good Day Everyone, I have a Lenovo X220, that is experiencing random sleep issues. Occasionally and frequently the computer goes into sleep. Pressing the power button wakes it up from sleep and after a couple of minutes, it goes back to sleep again. After about two to three cycles, occasionally it just crashes instead of going into sleep. This happens everyday over 3-4 times a day.  Once in a while, the boot from BIOS is an issue. i.e. I press the power button, I see the thinklight and the bluetooth light flash momentarily and I see a blank screen (its on, but its blank) i.e.. no thinkpad wording in white. Its nothing like the flashing thinklight issue.  After waiting for a minute or so, pressing the escape or spacebar kills the computer and the next launch is without any issues.   I'm running lenovo Power manager 3.66 and Bios version 1.28... Lenovo Tech support told me to update the drivers and I did but not of much help to the issue.  My questions are do you think this issue is hardware related? Mainboard? I uncovered some information about some faulty mainboards produced in August to December 2011. Which was the same time that this computer was purchased, though I'm not sure how to check the actual production date. The cause was due tof faulty EEPROM chips on the board. Could it be due to a faulty switch, the switch which detects the screen rotation and causes it to sleep? Though I'm not moving the screen and the comp... Read more

We are having an issue with 170 - X220 tablets we purchased where they will power off when in sleep mode. The student will close the lid, go to their next class, open the lid and it will restart to the screen saying windows was shut down improperly. It only happens to machines that we installed the battery slice on and we have updated to the latest bios and it did not seem to resolve the issue at all. We are using a a standard windows 7 32 bit image without the lenovo power manager. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hi everyone, When I wake up my Thinkpad T440s from sleep by openning the lid, there are beeps and nothing else happens. The screen is all black but it looks pretty obvious something is going on behind the scenes (I hear the subtle noise when opening the lid). After a few minutes, there is a sound and then it is automatically shut down. If I don't wait and close the lid, then I hear the final sound  after 1-2 minutes (which is a bit louder than the beeps at the beginning) and it is automatically shut down.  This sympton began to occur just after I installed the latest BIOS a few days ago. After the BIOS, I also installed the latest Thinkpad System Update Version 5.07.0013, but somehow for the first time it doesn't work properly (always stops in the middle of checking for updates with the error message "An error occured while downloading packages" on the screen, so this system update utility is entirely useless now). My OS is Windows 10 64-bit upgraded from Windows 8.1. I bought this new Thinkpad for several months now. Other than these, there are no other problems that I know of. Can you please help? I'm not really good at the technical things relating to the computer, so please give detailed instructions if possible.  Thank you so much

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

Hi,
I bought this XPS 13 a month ago and the experience was bad.  After updating firmware and drivers almost everything is better but some issues with the sleep/wakeup and wifi signal are still presents.

My model is XPS 13 2-1  9365,   i7-7Y75 , 16GB LPDDR3 - 1866MHz,   InfinityEdge de 13.3" QHD+, WIndows 10 PRO 64-bits

sleep/wakeup: laptop is not going to sleep when It is connected to AC when I close or push the windows command. I see a blink, but the laptop awake in the login screen.  Sometime sleep fine but i need the push the power button for  long time for a hardreset.

Wifi:  Some times signal is poor, and ping to the router has high latency and package lost. It usually happens after waking up.   I fix it by turning off and on wifi.
From other laptop and phone in the same location, the signal is optimal and latency is < 5.

I tried http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19963459 unsuccessfully

Any ideas that can help me?

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping you guys can help me, seeing as your the number 1 Google search and all on Win 7 threads!

I've been happily working away with Vista x64 Home Premium no problems and my Hauppage HVR2200 worked awsomely and SOOO reliably. My power was less reliable than my recordings!

However, now having Dual-booted our lovely friend Win 7 x64 first Beta and now RC 1(7100), I'm having some issues similar to those I used to have on my old computer running Vista x86 Home Premium:

1) Won't come out of sleep by the mouse or keyboard. I'm running them through a Hub but even before they were through the hub it didn't work. I haven't got any software installed for either and am going to give it a go, but it's never worked before. I've also started running MST, which I had to use on my old computer to get Vista to come out of sleep for recordings. Hasn't seemed to have worked yet.

2) And more distressingly, IF it wakes up for a Media Centre recording, or update or whatever, 9/10 times it blue screens or locks up when it does, or after its finished and trying to go back to sleep. I have several .dmp files and plenty of events, but all I've been able to narrow it down to are: I have an external hard drive that I run Roboform password manager and my email off, so its constantly being read- apparently USB devices like that can cause some trouble. OR It's a driver issue, quite possibly either the Intel RAID driver (RAID 0) I'm using or my LAN driver (Realtek RTL8168D).

Answer:Win 7 Sleep and Wake Issues

Your description of the problem implies an ACPI advanced function compatibility issue. There are two parts to this problem, the BIOS and the chipset driver. It appears you have the most recent BIOS for your motherboard. Make sure you also have the most recent chipset driver for your motherboard.

Your motherboard supports HPET (high precision event timing), which is likely the cause of your HAL errors, particularly if disabled (since your motherboard will report that it is HPET capable and Vista and 7 like to use it if possible). Also, if you are running the OS as 64-bit, make sure the HPET mode is set to 64-bit. Lastly, I would disable PME to be on the safe side. For debugging purposes, ensure the suspend type is S1.

I have a computer running 7 Pro 64x that won't wake from sleep when the keyboard or mouse is pressed. I checked in device manager and both are selected to wake the computer and not allow it to power down the devices. They are both PS/2. The only way to wake the computer is by hitting the power button on the case. I went into the advanced power settings and disabled the hybrid sleep and made sure it was set to never hibernate. Nothing has worked so far, ideas?

This is driving me crazy! I have an X220 with Windows 8 and UEFI boot installed. It all started when I first installed Windows 8 a few months ago which required me to update my BIOS to the latest version. The installation process often got stuck when booting from the Installation CD (the round circle stopped spinning, the display was at full brightness). Eventually I managed to boot into the Installer (when the boot logo doesn't get stuck, the display is then dimmed to minimum). I was quite happy to have a superfast lightweight OS which booted in an instant.. When suddenly it started to get stuck when booting (same issue with the boot logo not spinning anymore). This happens quite randomly, but I often manage to boot (maybe 2-3 times a week, I don't boot often though..). Now, the booting hangs are less of an issue for me but more often that that it fails to resume from sleep. The LEDs flash and then it instantly drops to sleep mode again (well at least the sleep/moon LED is active). This happens quite often as I sleep/resume up to 5-10 times a day (changing lecture rooms, meeting rooms, save battery when the lectures are boring, ...) Now after researching and spending hours in debugging this issue, it seems that I'm not the only one having this (or a similar) issue, but often without any definitive solution being specified. This is what I have already tried:* Upgrade BIOS and SSD firmware to latest* Install/update latest drivers* Mess around with BIOS opti... Hi, Fabio

If you haven't already, I would try doing a refresh of Windows 8. This is a function new to Windows 8 that will repair and refresh the operating system without affecting files. It may be able to find this problem and fix it. To do this, open the Charms Bar, and select Settings. At the bottom of this window, you will see something that says Change PC Settings. It doesn't look like a link, but it is. From here, go to General and scroll all the way to the bottom to find Refresh.

Hope it helps,Adam

Hey all, I have the Lenovo Thinkpad X220 that's done me good for the last 3ish years. However, recently, I've mad some connectivity problems with the wifi. I will start the computer and it will connect but with 1 bar. It'll reach at most 1-3 bars, for any network, and in any place (my school campus and also at home). Usually I have no problems with my connectivity but now it's become an issue. I was wondering what could be the problem? It must be the computer, but I don't know what the next step to take is. I've run a scan on my computer and found nothing wrong with it using Spybot S&D. I'm not completely tech-savvy so I'm not sure what the next step is. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you!

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). Hello, My Thinkpad T520, Windows 7 Pro takes over a minute to load any webpage  after waking from sleep. The wifi icon shows that the network has connected to the internet after about 10 seconds from wake up. But if I attempt to use a browser to load any webpage, I must wait nearly a minute before the page will load. After that, pages load quickly. This problem occurs in multiple browsers (FF, IE, Chrome). I am using Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 wireless adapter. I've updated the wireless driver and BIOS. I've cleaned out my registry using CCleaner, and I've defragmented. One bit of advice I've read that I've tried from these forums does NOT work: Uncheck from Device Manager under the Power Management tab for my wireless adapater the option to Allow the Computer to Turn Off This Device to Save Power. Unchecking that option (which would seem to keep the driver on) makes the problem worse because the wifi will not reconnect at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am now running the most current update that was released last month and I am still having issues with Sleeping and Waking the Notebook. All the drivers are up-to-date and it's running the most current biosWhen shutting down the computer it will not fully shut down, resulting in the battery draining and the little red light on the lid will blink very quickly - The only fix is to hard reset the PC by holding the power button. When the Notebook is on battery power and goes to sleep for being idle - it cannot be woken up and the only way to get the PC to work again is to hard reset again - meaning he loses all his work.I purchased this from the Microsoft store in February 2015. I brought it in for service and was told that this unit will not run windows 10 and had to to roll it back to Windows 8.1. I am fried inform them that I was having the same problem at times in windows 8.1. I also checked Lenovo website and this model has been tested to run windows 10

Answer:Think pad Yoga S1 sleep / wake issues

Hi

I have some other model, a TP Y 14 and it camed with Windows 8.1 and took me some time to stabilize it to Windows 10.
The trick for me was to run into a Driver Update Rampage... If you feel confortable updating the driver of you machine I can suggest you this tips.

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:
5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.
6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version.

Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable.

Sorry that it is not a better answer but sometimes drivers update do help if there is a software issue.

Regards

Hi all I have a G500 that isnt even a year old and i am having issues with it. It worked fine for months and im convinced this has something to do with a windows 8.1 update. I used to just shut the lid when i had stopped using my computer and when i opened the lid again, it would just work. Now when i open the lid, nothing happens. I often have to press the power button to get it to wake up and sometimes i have to power it off on the power button then back on so that it shows the lenovo spash screen. The system is an intel pentium 2020m  2.4ghz with 4gb ram and win 8.1 64 bit. power settings are set for balanced/default thanks

We have ran into the same recurring issue with the x220 and x230's. We are running windows 7 pro 64bit, and on a consistent  basis we have boot up issues, were windows gets stuck after the bios. The computer needs to be rebooted several times for it to fully boot up. Our users do have docking stations as well, anyone else having this issue?

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

Hi All,

I've already had one PC problem solved via this forum since upgrading to windows 10 and hoping I can get some help with a few more!

1. My PC no longer shuts down. It starts to shut down but then never turns off. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. Really weird.

2. When my PC goes into sleep mode it will no longer wake up. I've pressed every button on the keyboard but nothing wakes it up. The only way to get it back on is to hold down the power button to switch it off, then switch it back on again.

3. Now that Edge has replaced Explorer, I'm having trouble with some websites and also there's an issue with Java. Windows 10 removed Explorer but when I've tried to download it I get the message:
Looking for Internet Explorer? You're in the right place, but Internet Explorer requires a Windows PC.
Well, I do have a Windows PC!

Windows 10 is so annoying that I hate my laptop now. For the first time ever, I'm thinking of going with Apple.

Please help!

Thanks

Answer:Win 10 - Explorer issues + PC won't shut down or wake from sleep mode

1. My PC no longer shuts down. It starts to shut down but then never turns off. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. Really weird.

This indicates that there's some background process got hung and cannot be terminated so Windows is waiting.

2. When my PC goes into sleep mode it will no longer wake up. I've pressed every button on the keyboard but nothing wakes it up. The only way to get it back on is to hold down the power button to switch it off, then switch it back on again.

There might be options in your BIOS that you can enable to use "Any key", "None", Define A Key etc... to wake the computer up.
Check that out under Power Management.

3. Now that Edge has replaced Explorer, I'm having trouble with some websites and also there's an issue with Java. Windows 10 removed Explorer

Windows 10 did not remove Explorer.
It's either in : "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
Or: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
If it's not in the above folders then you need to turn it on from "Programs and Features" as shown below:

Hello,I am having a lot of issues with my new XPS 13. The computer is not going to sleep after having the laptop lid closed, it just burns through its power supply. I have checked all setting and it should not be doing this.
Also, I am having wake up issues sometimes when I close it and open it up again within a short frame of time, say, 5-10 minutes. The screen will remain black and I will have to restart the machine.
Is there a patch or driver I can install to resolve this? This is really frustrating from such a high-end machine, opening and closing should be the least of my concerns...

Thanks,

THV

Answer:Sleep Issues and Wake Up Issues-xps 13

Hi THV,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system?
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine.
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.
Reinstall the chipset drivers and the video drivers from the vendor site - intel.com or geforce.com (if applicable)
Create a new local admin account and check.
If you are unable to find the required drivers and relevant info, then provide the exact system model and the OS installed on the machine and I can provide the right links.
Keep us updated.

E7470 with the latest BIOS and latest drivers for everything else.TPM version is 2.0.
Put the computer to sleep (close lid) and try to use fingerprint to log in works for a while. After about 5-10 sleep/wake, the fingerprint stops working and Windows reports 'Something has gone wrong." Windows 10 reports in the Event Viewer:
Log: SystemSource: TPMEvent ID: 14The device driver for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) encountered a non-recoverable error in the TPM hardware, which prevents TPM services (such as data encryption) from being used. For further help, please contact the computer manufacturer.
Only way I have found to fix this is a reboot. Would like to see if there is a TPM firmware upgrade or a new driver that fixes this. Sort of annoying to reboot just for the sake of rebooting....I keep a lot of applications running.
Is there a Dell TPM driver for this? It is using the Microsoft driver 10.0.14366.0 dated 6/21/2006. I can't find one on the Dell support site.

Answer:E7470 - Windows 10 + fingerprint = issues with TPM after a few sleep/wake cycles

Hi MARK.VALPREDA,
Are you using Windows Hello to login?
If you have already updated the BIOS, then reinstall the chipset drivers and the security drivers - http://dell.to/28Z4Fzh - ControlVault 2 driver and firmware and you could also try reinstalling the TPM 2.0 update.
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Hello Lenovo Fourm,I have a ThinkPad T450s with a fresh install of windows 10, I upgraded the hard drive because I need more space (also upgraded the ram while I had it open) so I did a fresh install of windows and all was well.  A few weeks into the fresh install of windows, the laptop's sleep functionality was failing. For instance, if i were to close the lid and let it sleep for 5 minutes the laptop will wake up - however the display will remain completely black. No blacklight, no nothing. And no it's not a backlight failure. If i were to hook up an external monitor to the system its perfectly usable, and if i were to go under device manager to check for the internal display it won't show up.  After fiddling around with drivers and updates, I did another clean install and installed all of Lenovo's drivers that wern't bloatware (including a BIOS update) and the sleep issue still persists. Something interesting: The error only happens if i were to close the lid, putting the laptop to sleep via the windows menu and using the power button to turn it on works perfectly fine. Here's a list of things i've triedFresh installation with Microsoft drivers (fail)Fresh installation with Lenovo drivers (fail)Bios settings tweak, such as changing the "Entry after" setting to immediately (fail)Trying the old ram that came with the system (fail)Turning off fast boot (fail)Trying various versions of the Intel Management Engine Interface provided by either ... Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

Answer:Trouble with Wake on Ring, Wake on LAN and Standby - Sleep - Suspend

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Notebookcheck  measured the X230's IPS screen at about 5% greater brightness than the X220--280nits vs 265. The screen's ID number was identical between the two units, but the new screen apparently has 1% less color gamut. It's obsessive, I know, but what's the harm of asking? Does anyone know if the new screen is improved, or is it a matter of variations between units of the same make? This could be a variation within the batch or a measurement error. A 15 nits difference at the maximum brightness are not something your eye would normally pick up.

Hey again, This is my third thread on this topic. So I had an x220 which did not boot anything after a BIOS update and I assumed that the problem will be solved by buying a new laptop (x230) at the nearest shop. So I went and did, I tried my USB drive at the store and it did boot up. The HDD they wanted to sell it with booted up as well, everything like a charm. I came home, and tried my other HDD (from the x220) and while it could see it, the same problem arose. I could not boot up the HDD (even though my main PC can) and now I could not boot up the USB as well. Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem? Is it the HDD, or is it possible that the Thinkpad sees it as bootable but unable to boot? Then why would the USB do not boot up as well? Thanks in advance. Getting really anxious about all this.

Answer:x220 and x230 not booting at all

Mods, please close this. The problem was bad memory, one of the newly purchased ones were corrupted for some reason. Still showed up in the BIOS and the diagnostics did not find anything. In the x220 the system got bricked as well, so that was mostly a goner. The main thing was the memory, it simply did not boot with a bad memory even though there was usable, good memory. Thanks for everyone who helped me out. Cheers,John

My brand new Thinkpad P50 is having an issue about 20% of the time I leave sleep.  The only solution I find is holding the power button until it powers down, then powering back up. I get all of the following symptoms: 1. The resolution is slightly different, the screen zoomed into part of the window2. Any mouse-click or keypress that does NOT type text into a field has the side effect of causing the display to flicker..sometimes completely off, or sometimes back on.3. alt-F4 or ctrl-alt-delete ALWAYS kills the display completely I've had this computer about a week, and have noticed this issue since day 1.  It's pretty major, and I don't want to turn off "sleep mode" on a laptop. More info: 1. I have an X220 that recently just had the warranty expire on it, and now the motherboard is shot.  I was wondering if logistically, I could buy an X230, and simply install my old solid state harddrive from the X220, and would the computer function?  If possible, that would be a lot easier than taking the hard drive, having someone back it up, and then reinstalling all of the software and files on the new computer?  Thanks in advance for any help!

It should work fine. I would run ThinkVantage System Update in case there's some hardware on the X230 that wasn't on the X220, but apart from that you should be good to go.

Hi all, I'd like to say first this is an awesome forum for Lenovo owners and everyone seems to get answers .I just bought a used X230 (i5) (with OEM 8GB RAM) recently to replace my X200s. Can't wait to upgrade some stuff So I did some searches here and I got some answers about max RAM.  Seems the X220 is capable of 16GB. My gf has the X220 (i7) currently has 2x4GB G.Skill (upgraded right away when it was brand new) . To save a little bit of $ I'd like to buy 4x8GB RAM 1600 for both our laptops. 1) Is it realistic to do this?2) Can the X220 utilize 1600?  3) Is there a "right RAM" that will work for both laptops?4) What CAS, Latency and Voltage should I get that is stable?5) Which brand works well? Was thinking of G.Skill (had good experience with them). Note: At the end of the day if it doesn't work then I'll get them separately.   Off topicHow do I get to make my signature work properly? Do I need to code it? I don't know how to code

Answer:X220/X230 9-cell batt, sleeve?

Hello,

eBags has a tool on their web site called the Laptop Bag Finder that let's you type in the dimensions of a laptop and it will return compatible cases.  You might want to measure your X220 with the various batteries installed, type the dimensions in, and see what comes back as a result.

I am going  to buy a used  x220 i7 or x230 i5 and would like to confirm:1)Each and every x220 and x230 laptop (regardless of model and options)  does have an available (external) MiniPCI Express slot.2)Every x230 i5 and x220 i7  (including those that do not have  a built-in USB 3.0 port) will fully support  a USB 3.0  ExpressCard adapter  with 2 USB 3.0 ports and will get a USB 3.0 speed on Win7-64.3) Every x230 i5 and  x220 i7 will fully support  a SATA III (6GB)   ExpressCard adapter  with 2 ESATA ports and will get a  SATA III  speed on Win7-64.

Answer:Does x220-i7 and x230 support USB 3.0 and SATA III (6GB) ExpressCards?

My friend owns a spare Lenovo X230 with Intel i5-3210M CPU and I own a Lenovo X220 with Intel i5-2430M CPU. My X220 have a terrible Intel HD 3000 Graphics installed and I like the performance boost the Intel HD 4000 can give me. Since my friend have no need of his X230 (he have an Alienware 17), he said that if I can find a way to exchange CPUs between these two computers, I can, provided that the X230 still works with my 2430M CPU afterwards. So I would like to know is it possible to exchange CPUs between these 2 computers but1. NOT losing all data2. I can do it myself with a screwdriverWe don't really care about the ports except for the USBs and headphones. So if some ports have to be rendered useless, it's fine by us.Any help, tips or instructions would be gladly appreciated. Thanks!

I have sent mine in for repair. It was leaking light from atleast 6 places on the bottom. It also recently had a white dot (not pixels, more like bleed) appear on the right side of the screen.  Any chance they will actually do something ? I am hearing that they just ship them back without even fixing anything.  Also, what is with all the "this is normal, its just you".... The ipad 2 had the same backlight bleed issue and it was LG's fault.  Anyone who had the issue was able to get as many exchanges from an apple store until the problem was fixed.  Now I pad $1000 for this laptop, MUCH MORE than an iPad 2. Not to mention it has a LOWER RESOLUTION. This light bleeding issue is unacceptable. Excuses are also unacceptable.  So someone please answer. Has Lenovo fixed this light bleed issue ???

Answer:X220 still suffers "Backlight Bleed" ?? How about the X230 ??

you are comparing an iPad with a laptop? The newer revision LCD do have less backlight bleed, but it is still present, even on the X230 to a certain degree.

. . . Macrium Reflect "fix boot errors" is saving my A**!
Between updates, on Wake from Sleep, no Wake . . .. requires hard start . . . spinning dots . . . no boot . . . requires my Macrium Reflect intervention disk . . . "fix boot errors" . . . . System then actually does Start . . .
Anyone else . . . ? What is going on?

I just want to share a method here. If you hate X230's keyboard and want to install X220's keyboard instead, please bear in mind that the palmrest should also use X220's style.

Answer:[Method Share] How to change X230's keyboard to X220's.

It's been done successfully, but the key mappings are different, so it's a no-go until there's a BIOS patch.

There's a 48-page discussion on the backlight bleeding of the x220 on the Lenovo forums (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Faint-Ghosting-on-X220-IPS-screen/td-p/435201). There are also many smaller threads regarding problems with the x220 IPS screen and to a lesser extent the x230 screen. I recently purchased an x230 and experienced bleeding. Due to my onsite warranty IBM support came and replaced the screen- but the new one still had bleeding. Another engineer came out, brought a new back-panel (because the flex of the panel seemed to be causing it) and said "this isn't broken- I have seen lots of x220s and x230s with this problem- its a design default". Could I challenge Lenovo to provide me with an x230 IPS screen which does not bleed? I cannot believe Lenovo released/designed a laptop with such a glaring (no pun intended) fault. Has anyone here got an x230 (or x220) IPS screen where there is absolutely no backlight bleeding on a dark background?

Answer:All x220 and x230 IPS screens have backlight bleeding issue?

All X230 and X220 LG IPS will have some degree of bios bleed, it is just matter of severity.

Crucial's info recommends the 1600 mhz memory for all 3 models. Technically, speed gets reduced to 8500 for the X201. Is that ccorrect? Hope they will keep the Thinkpad series alive. A rugged, fast small and lightweight business notebook is a wonderful tool. I wouldn't trade my old X201 for any I-Pad (need a keyboard and the Thinkpads' are great). To upgrade my notebooks, there would be considerable cost savings by just buying the 8 GB modules @ 12,800 instead of @ 8500 for the X201. Hope that will work? Cheers,Chris

Answer:DDR3-12800 8 GB RAM modules for X201-X220-X230 notebooks?

The X201 supports only 2x 4GB, so no 8GB Modules for her... My X201's are very picky with 12800 RAM, I normally use 10600 RAM for this generation, altough some forum members reported sucesfull experiences with this type of RAM.

The X220/X230 have no problem with 8GB modules or 12800 RAM   but avoid the cheaper RAM lines like the "Value RAM" from Kingston or the "Value Select" from Corsair, and no-name brands as well.
