x230 TrackPoint (chiclet) feels extremely hot

Question: x230 TrackPoint (chiclet) feels extremely hot

Basically, my problem is in the title. It feels fine when I just idle a finger on it, but if I tilt it diagonally, I start to feel some heat after a few minutes of use. Its like I'm touching a a hot surface of a cheap laptop under load. I thought it might have been because the CPU was under load, but this happened to me while browsing the internet and writting a paper in wordpad. Is this normal?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: x230 trackpoint

Hey,sometimes when I move my pointer somwhere and then release trackpoint the pointer goes a little bit backwards. Can it be fixed?Regards

Answer:x230 trackpoint

TrackPoint drift has been happening as long as I can remember, at least back to the X31.  Release the trackpoint, and it may drift towards the top left.  If you let it drift, it stops after a few seconds and after that works properly.  At least for me this happens infrequently enough so as not to be a big deal.

The Ideapad 100s feels extremely fragile. I noticed this when looking at a display. When picked up one handed by the lower right or left corner, below and to the right or left of the touch pad, when the screen is raised, the material bends slightly and then straightens again once released. Is this going to damage internal components within the device and make it function improperly or cease to function entirely? Or was it designed to have a little give and bend when being picked up and this is not a problem? Do I need to carefully and gently pick it up with two hands, always by the sides near the keyboard? Or can I pick it up however is comfortable and not worry about the slight, temporary bend? Seems like a laptop should be tough enough to withstand simply being picked up by it's edge or corner with one hand, but I wanted to make sure I am not going to break my device. Thanks.

Hi all, Since installing Windows 10 I am unable to change the sensitivity of the Trackpoint. I have to press insanely hard to get the cursor to move at a reasonable speed and it makes the machine rather useless for me. In Windows and 8.1 I had the options to change the sensitivity so the cursor would move on a light touch of the Trackpoint. Why has this function been removed? And is it coming back? X230 is officially supported for Windows 10 so you would say you at least get the options of changing the sensitivity. The latest drivers are installed using Lenovo System Update. At this point I'm seriously considering downgrading to 8.1 just to make the Trackpoint usable again. Thanks!

I have thinkpad x230 which was running the stable and well supported windows 7. I upgraded to windows 10 a couple of days ago and I updated the synaptics driver from 16.2.19.14 to the latest one lenovo released  19.0.12. 61 but the trackpont scrolling is bad and not smooth. In addition, I can't find any option to change the sensitivity of the trackpoint. I went back to the old driver I used in win 7  (16.2.19.14) and smooth scrolling is back but trackpoint scrolling isn't working in start menu, edge browser or any metro app. I appreciate your help!!

Hello, I have a Lenovo X230 and have a quick question, is it possible to disable the TrackPoint knob (the red knob) while keeping the buttons active? Disabling TrackPoint through the UltraNav driver results in having both the knob and the buttons disabled, the same thing goes for disabling it in the BIOS. Note that this model only has those two buttons build in while newer Lenovo models has two pairs of buttons (above and below the TrackPad). See: http://cdn.asia.cnet.com/story_media/62218216/1.jpg

Answer:X230 - Disable TrackPoint but not buttons?

you can in a way. Just select advanced feature only within the ultranav selection for the trackpoint. This way the trackpoint nib would only act as page scroller and won't move the pointer per se. Then you can switch the trackpoint sensitivity to firm touch. This is what i do for people whom can't use trackpoints.

I never do these, but after extensive searching and trouble shooting without results, here I am.I have a Lenovo x230 laptop (2306cto model number) . The keyboard on it was having buttons stop working after extensive use, so I purchased a replacement keyboard for it (model CS12-84US). The keyboard is identical the previous one, including backlight functionality, and trackpoint. I swapped the keyboards, and all of the buttons started working again perfectly, except for the trackpoint mouse (little red button thing), the trackpoint mouse buttons, and also the backlight function for the keyboard (the Fn + Space only turns on the overhead light seated next to the webcam). I tried reseating it a few times, I checked all of the ribbons to ensure that there are no rips/tears, etc. I checked drivers again and again. The trackpoint section under the UltraNav Mouse settings is greyed out and inaccessible. I can't figure out what's wrong. This is a brand new keyboard. Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. Iīve tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? This issue is really annoying, otherwise I love the X230 tablet!

Hello, Prior to getting my X230, I had an X201, and the X201's trackpoint was very maneuverable: I was very precise with it and could control it how I wanted to. My X230 does not work this way: The trackpoint doesn't travel how I want it to. It requires more force to move it small distances. In Control Panel: Mouse, I have the pointer speed set to max and the trackpoint settings set to Light Touch. Enhanced Pointer Precision is on (I want it on).  There is definitely something wrong with my machine: I've tried out other X230's, and their trackpoints function the same as my X201's: easy to maneuver. My drivers are all updated.

Answer:X230: Unsatisfactory trackpoint sensitivity/movability

I see no reason not to have Lenovo send u a new keyboard if u are still on warrantee. Keyboards are customer replaceable units and are easy to replace. I would give Lenovo support a call.

Is it just me, or do the X230's trackpoint buttons seem really low? They don't seem to have a bump in the front that makes them easy to press. This in addition to how slippery and low the point is compared to the one on my X201 makes pointing and clicking a miserable experience.

I prefer to use my trackpoint stick rather than the touchpad because I can leave my hands in typing position.  Trouble is my X230 stick feels much harder to move than my other current and former  Thinkpads.  Even using the stick for just a couple minutes makes my finger sore.  I have adjusted the Wndows control panel -> mouse ultranav -> trackpoint -> settings -> trakcpoint stick -> sensitivity to light touch.  But I use other thinkpads (T430, x120e) stick with sensitivity set in the middle and they are much easier to start movement with.  All Lenovo drivers are current. Seems that the X230 stick is different and requires much more pressure to get going compared to other models. Any suggestions or other adjustments I could try? Thanks.

HI, I have just purchased a x230 and from the beginning it is really slow. From the 1st boot it takes lot of time to boot and apart from that it takes ages to access to some document or launch and application. Just by opening the default Google chrome it pops up a window saying that the hard drive is overloaded by a process. I have launched the hard drive test and it says everything is ok But its not just the hard drive. The CPU also goes crazy and usually goes up to 90-100% performance by doing nothing, which makes impossible to do anything. Just to point out that there is just taken out of the box, with nothing installed and my raspberry is faster than this

I?m really sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad X230 is having performance issues, out of the box.

Ensure that air vents are not blocked and there is a proper air flow. Also, check the speeds at which the fan is spinning.

1. Remove all external devices and restore factory default hardware configurations by uninstalling all non-bundled devices.
2. Power on the machine with AC adapter and battery then check whether the problem still exists.
3. Go to BIOS by tapping F1 while Lenovo logo appears. Choose Config -> Power and ensure the below settings are as recommended.

Then press F9 [Save and Exit].
4. Ensure Power Manager is configured correctly. Open Power Manager, Click Switch to: "Basic", Click "Power Plan" tab, Select "Maximum Performance", Press Apply then click Ok.
5. Bootup and press F8 to enter Safe Mode to check if the bootup speed is normal.
6. Input "msconfig" and click the tab "Startup" to disable all. Reboot and then shut down. If problem resolved, narrow down to specific startup file.
7. Run a complete virus scan.
8. Run Lenovo Solution center diagnostics and check if there is any hardware failure.
9. Run Lenovo system update and Windows update.

Hi all,  I just got my brand new X230. The problem is as the topic suggests "the wireless connection is extremely slow".I have got my 4 year old SL300 side by side with my X230. When I test the broadband speed, my SL300 yields 6mb/sdownload and 1.6mb/s upload. However my brand new yields a super low speed at 0.3mb/s and 1.1mb/s. So I think my problem has nothing to do with my router.  I have already set my wireless adapter setting to maximum performance ( power options>edit plan settings>change advanced power settings>wireless adapter settings>power saving mode>maximum power performance). For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi thinkpad community.I don't know if all of you guys have adjusted to the new chiclet keyboard layout, but I certainly haven't, even after using a newer T series thinkpad model for almost a year now.   I know from past forum posts that it's impossible to swap out the chiclet keyboard with an older keyboard, so there's no hope there.Has there been any rumors that Lenovo will bring back the traditional, 7 row keyboard back to the thinkpad line, or at least provide an option to chose between the chiclet keyboard and the traditional keyboard? I saw a video review done by Lenovo for the new thinkpad models on youtube, in which the reviewer stated that the feedback for the new chiclet keyboard has been great O_o.  So far I've only seen negative feedback on these forums so.....what's going on here?

Answer:Update on Chiclet Keyboard.

as i much hate to say, the Chiclet layout with 6 rows is the new industry standard, and i don't think we will see the 7 rows in the near future.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

I heard the upcoming iterations of the Thinkpad chiclet style keyboards are pretty amazing. But how the the Ideapad chiclet keyboards compare? I never really had a chance to demo a Thinkpad with these keys (because no stores ever carry Thinkpads), but I've tried the Ideapads, and quite frankly, they didn't feel too great. So how do Thinkpad and Ideapad chiclet/island styled keyboards compare with eachother? Are they the same? If so then I can safely assume that I wouldn't like Thinkpads' keys anymore. Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo chiclet style keyboards?

I keep hearing good things about the X1 keyboard, which is what they are planning on using from what I've heard... The one thing that really turns me off is the loss of a 7 row keyboard, also not a fan of the loss in seperation between F key groups.   And why in Gods name do I need a huge Print Screen button on the bottom???   It's a crap layout, and IMO they have gone from the best, by far my favorite keyboard on a laptop ever!  --->  to  ehh, hmmm, umm, no.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Answer:issues with new chiclet keyboard and with Lnovo service to replace it

Lenovo is not IBM. Thinkpads are no longer the "Mercedes of laptops" as they used to be years ago. If you want a rugged PC look for a Panasonic Toughbook or something along those lines. There have already been numerous complaints on these message boards about how awful the service is, so you're not alone on this one.

Assuming the layout is identical, which keyboard would you choose for feel and ease of typing The Traditional Lenovo Keyboard or The new chiclet one. Please note that this has nothing to do with the layout Im asking purely on the ease of typing andfeel of keyboard basis Thanks

Answer:Which keyboard feel would you choose if given a choice Traditional or chiclet

The feels on the non-backlit chiclet key is not that bad as compared to the traditional key, but the backlit version does feel softer and tactility is not as good.

Hello, I had the opportunity to try out the T530 / W530 chiclet keyboard and really liked it I have bit of a reverse question  Can a new chiclet type keyboard be installed in a W520 and would the bios have to be changedfor key mapping etc.. Thanks in advance for your help

Answer:Reverse question Can the W530 chiclet keyboard be installed in a W520

It won't fit due to a slightly different surrounding bezel.  And even if it did fit (or you replaced the bezel which would allow it to fit), then BIOS wouldn't support it anyway - key mapping problems.

Hello. To start with im not too into fixing problems, a true beginner. Anyway, heres my problem.
When i run a game called Tibia, my computer crashes. My computer was bought new last winter so i dont think there should be any lack of performance. The crash happens randomly, if i dont clock my processor down, after about 1 hour. When i got the first crash, it wont take more than 5 minutes for it to crash again... when i start that program (Tibia). Ive checked the systemlog, there is nothing about the crash as i can see it. The temperature of my processors (im running Core2duo at 1866MHz) stays under 40 C. Even if i clock them down to about 850 MHz, using Intel thermal analysis tool, it crashes eventually. Though it will take alot longer. Ive had my computer returned at service where i bought it, but the problems is still. The crash is as this: The whole screen freezes, just stops.. i cant move mouse or just put "numlock" on or off. I cant either use ctrl alt del to reboot, or hit the computers power button once, to make it shut off. On my Yoga 2 11.6 the letter 'o' has slightly more resistence than the other keys, and doesn't seem to have the same travel distance (doesn't go down as far as the others).   As a result, the 'o' key requires more pressure than the other keys to register the key press.  While it isn't a gigantic difference, it often results in the key not registering when typing normally. Has anyone else had a similar issue with any of the letter keys on their 11.6?   Note: Nothing has been spilled on the laptop.  It has not been dropped or damage in any way.

Question: Feels buggy

Hello,

I'm posting because I am sensing some suspicious activity with my computer as follows:

1) A week or so ago, a split second glimpse of a window, from desktop, running in background

2) ZoneAlam logs - under rules, it usually says "Block all2". For the past week, it would just report, "Block". I'm not certain what the difference is in those two terms but as of today, it's blocking everything as "All2" again.

Last night, I disabled all remote access services along with "Telephony" and "Terminal Services". At the time I was doing that, I could not get the "Remote Access Auto Connection Manager" service to stop although it did after I rebooted. (I don't know if this has anything to do with anything but it seemed strange that I could not get the service to stop)

3) Computer would take around 3 mins to shut down. Computer would take 5 minutes to boot, then, I'd log in and get a black screen with only the pointer displaying and another 5 minutes before anything else would display on the screen - sometimes, nothing would and I'd have to reboot.

----------------------
WHAT I'VE BEEN MOST CONCERNED ABOUT
4) When I log onto my webhost, I see activity properly reported under my IP address. I also see the usual bots and hack attempts under thier IPs. Then, accessing almost all the same files (simultaneously) reported accessed under my IP address, I see an odd 's... Read more

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this problem...

Ok I have a problem with my DSL and can't seem to get it straightened out as for contacting my ISP I seem to keep getting the runaround. I call the DSL tech dept and while talking to them they do a line test and it tells them that my line is failing badly. They write up a trouble ticket and turn it over to the Line Dept who then does a line check and finds nothing wrong.

Ok here is what my problem is and I appreciate anyhelp that anyone can give me and yes I have even powered down my DSL modem and "reset" it.

When not on the phone and just on the computer surfing the internet speed is greatly reduced (its S L O W very S L O W). My display on my phone will read line in use and 2 lights on my DSL modem (the DSL light and Internet light) will go off and then they come back on flashing until steady.

When we are actually on the phone the internet speed is faster.

I have my DSL and my Dishnetwork (TV satellite) thru my phone company SBC and we have always saw the line in use from time to time on our phone display but nothing really major as far as to whats happening now.

I should add that now this major slow down has happened after we put our 2nd computer online. We have the computers hooked up via router with Internet Cable from DSL Modem going to router, Cable 1 from router to Computer 1 and Cable 2 from router to Computer 2.

I hope I haven't confused anyone and if ... Read more

Hi

I had a very similar problem and the cause was the sat. t.v. connection. When I disconnected the phone line from the t.v. my speed increased.

I just installed an SSD in  one of my laptops and I find the computer to be more sluggish than when I had the 7200 HDD in the machine.... I did run a test and did all optimizations I could think of... the SSD is an Intel branded drive if that mattersbelow is a pic of my crystal diskmark test.... is these speeds any good?

Answer:SSD feels slower than HDD

What did you expect?  SSD is better for loading a program. It never makes you CPU faster. If you have enough memory, and if the OS will load everything you need into memory, the speed advantage of SSD goes away. Here is a general reference:http://www.storagereview.com/ssd_vs_hddHowever, the OS does better if it knows it is using a SSD and not a HDD. If the OS is not optimized for SSD, the advantages are not so good. This is for windows 7 and might apply to Windows 10 also.http://www.disk-partition.com/kb/tips-ssd-optimization-windows7-2.html

Hi,

I think have been infected with a Rootkit. I started getting issues recently with Avira constantly telling me that i had trojans trying to operated on my PC. These warning started to appear every 30 secs. There was also issues whenever i searched from something on yahoo or google and clicked on the search results i would be redirected to an irrelevant advertising site. I than ran a full system scan with Eset, which found 7 differents trojans and said that it had successfulky removed all of them. However i still had the issue with clicking on search results and my PC still felt very clunkly. I then installed the trial version of Kaspersky, after i rebooted and tried to run the scan it would stop instantly telling me that the database was corrupt. This was the same result for any process i tried to carry out in Kaspersky. My PC has also developed the nice habit of randomly freezing, desite being able to move the cursor i couldn't click on anything and the clock would freeze on a set time.

If there is anything you can suggest to help i would be most grateful.

Many thanks
Jason

Answer:Feels like a Rootkit

You mention Avira, Eset and now Kaspersky...Did you remove the other anti-virus programs before installing? If not, you need to do so. Using more than one anti-virus program is not advisable. Why? The primary concern with doing so is due to conflicts that can arise when they are running in real-time mode simultaneously and issues with Windows resource management. Even when one of them is disabled for use as a stand-alone scanner, it can affect the other and cause conflicts. Anti-virus software components insert themselves into the operating systems core and using more than one can cause instability, crash your computer, slow performance and waste system resources. When actively running in the background while connected to the Internet, they both may try to update their definition databases at the same time. As the programs compete for resources required to download the necessary files this often can result in sluggish system performance or unresponsive behavior. Each anti-virus may interpret the activity of the other as suspicious behavior and there is a greater chance of them alerting you to a "False Positive". If one finds a virus or a suspicious file and then the other also finds the same, both programs will be competing over exclusive rights on dealing with that virus or suspicious file. Each anti-virus may attempt to remove the offending file and quarantine it at the same time resulting in a resource management issue as to which program gets permission ... Read more

Hey all,

I am slowly getting used to the new Windows 8 layout and in particular the whole user experience however the overall speed of my system feels very sluggish when perhaps it shouldn't ?

Is there anyway to see what is causing my PC to act to slowly and highlight ways that it can be boosted..

My hardware is fairly modern and consists of a i7 quad core processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM and a 750GB Hard Drive.

Many thanks

Scott

Answer:feels very sluggish - is this right?

Any installed software like antivirus or anything like that ? open task manager and watch cpu/ram/hdd usage; open event viewer -> windows logs -> system, and search for errors, read them all and analyze, search google for solutions, if need.

Hey all, first post here - I hope its in the right section etc kind of new to tech forums. Anywayyy! I've recently bought a Novatech Barebone Bundle with an ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard and a AMD FX-8320 8-Core (Vishera) Socket 942 CPU and 8GbDD3 RAM.

My problem is that, regardless of the fact its 8 CPUs @ ~~3.5GHz, it feels not that much superior to my old 2.7 Duo-Core AMD CPU. Everything came to me "Pre-installed and configured" which according to their spec details is best performance pre-overclock.

I mainly got concerned that something was up earlier today when I was rendering a 5min Fraps Recording from an MMO game, while rendering in 1980x1080 HD my cpu usage hit 99% instantly, all 8 cores were maxed and my CPU temp shot up to 79 degree Celsius, now this is something that I STRUGGLED to do on my duo 2.7GHz, yet still now struggle on this.

Sorry for rambling. Is this normal, or am I dealing with a fault system? Any information would be great, and sorry again if it is in the wrong section.

Regards,

Shigu

Answer:8-Cores, feels like 2?

A good transcoding program is meant to utilize all of your CPU, or at least the most it can depending on the file types and program in question. So technically, yes 99% usage is good. It should transcode a 1080p FRAPS video much quicker than your old dual core.

So the last month or two I've been getting a lot of BSODs. I've been getting these crashed doing all diffrent things. Alot of them while playing Diablo 3 or League of Legends. Some of them while surfing in Firefox and some in Chrome. I've also bluescreened while watching films. I've even gotten one or two while being away from the computer.

It feels like I've tried tons of different things to solve the problem. I've reinstalled windows. I've upgraded every driver I could find. I've ran memtest twice for 18hrs (last time ran was 2 days ago). I've disconnected one of my harddrives and my CD-drive.

I now dont know what to do since I haven't gotten the impression that its a hardware failure.

What is there left to do? (I'm always up for trying things again. Such as installing more drivers)

These are pretty much my specs: http://i.imgur.com/y1McI.png
Whats different is a switch of graphicscard to a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 and I've also added 8 more GB of RAM.

Answer:BSOD about twice a day. Feels like I've tried everything.

Crashes indicate graphics card driver issues or memory_corruption. Could be related to your DirectX/graphics installations. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. Any chance the installation media is damaged? Even a retail disc bought from a store or online can be damaged. So can a burnt DVD from an ISO file.

It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.
Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.
Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
Click Start Menu
Click Control Panel
Click Uninstall a program
For AMD:Uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager if it is listed (this should remove all AMD graphics software and drivers)
If AMD Catalyst Install Manager is not listed, use the following method to uninstall the graphics drivers (this applies to onboard graphics, as well):Click Start Menu
Right Click My Computer/Computer
Click Manage
Click D... Read more

Answer:computer feels hot

I would put the larger fan in. If you dont want to put the fan in you can get a handheld or small vacuum or can of air and clean the fan. This should result in better performance. After that I would download this program:

http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311

so that it can monitor the motherboard and other chipsets. This program can also shut down the computer if the motherboard and stuff becomes too hot.

Question: Key Feels stuffy

The #3 Key on my Y560 feels stuffy all of a sudden. I have not spilled anything on it (I'm super paranoid about drinkning anything near the laptop). Unlike the other key, it requires more force to push. I took the key off to see if any dust collected underneath it, but there was none. Any way to make it smooth again?

hi DarkLite,

with regards to this, i would suggest bringing it to a service center for them to check.

I don't know the common issue of my problems, I'm so dumbfounded.
I have a decent PC that plays anything I throw at it on ultra. But some games just make it hard freeze, I have to manually unplug my pc or hold the restart button.

Specs:

AMD FX 9590
XFX R9 390 8GB
Crosshair Formula V - Z
1000W Rosewill PSU
16GB of ram

Without shutting down it plays:

Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3
Naruto Storm 4
Grand Theft Auto 5
Dead Rising 3
Fallout 4, 3 and New Vegas
Sims 3
Just Cause 3

It freezes games like:

Far Cry 3
Star wars Battlefront
Bully
Over heating isn't the issue.

I have checked the power supply and that seems to be ok, could there be a break in the printed circuit that makes a conection sometimes or is there a thermal switch in this box that i dont know about. The other thing that happens is i get a blue screen with the message a fatal error has occured, it also restarts on its own. "Please can you help." Regards, Robert.

Answer:Starts when it feels like it.

Hello all!

I'm sorry I have to bother you guys about this, but I really do not know what to do on my own. My computer was recently hit by some popups from Internet Explorer, and eversince then it has been EXTREMELY slow. The internet is not exactly slow, but everything else about the computer is. Starting up the computer takes forever, loading up programs, you name it. The computer itself is not even that slow, and never performed this bad, so I am sure this problem is virus/malware related. I also have been forced to use Mozilla eversince the popup barrage from IE, which I have never exactly liked. Anyways, here is the HiJackThisLog below. Thanks again in advance!

I've tried fiddling around with some of the displays (which I never touch) and I pulled out and reinstalled the cable for the monitor, to no effect. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello,

So I'm not computing dinosaur but this has me stumped and any help would be appreciated!

About two weeks ago web pages either stopped loading or were really slow to load. If I reset my router it would fix the problem for a while.... maybe 10 minutes, maybe an hour, different every time! After a bit it would be back to the snail pace again...or sometimes not loading at all, its basically making the internet useless.

I've tried scanning using various different applications to see if I have a virus...but it's found nothing.

I know the internet is fine though as other computers in the house work ok and so do other application like Steam and Utorrent even when I can't get a webpage up!

I'll probably be asked for specs but i'm not sure what you'll need......

it's Windows 7 and happens on every browser (chrome, firefox etc)

any ideas at all?

Answer:My internet feels like it's gone back to 56k!

Have you done all of the steps to determine if it is malware?  I saw you did scans for viruses.
-Rkill
-Hitmanpro
-MalwareBytes
-TDSSKiller for rootkits

In the recent past there have been a number of people to use this laptop so I can't pinpoint a date or action of when it started having issues. Recently I purchased a new phone (samsung S6 Edge) and after several weeks it started having issues connecting to laptop via usb.

Answer:PC Feels Slow and USB Issues

I am not seeing any malware in your logs. Perhaps you should post in the software forum for further assistance.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:

Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
Then we want you to Enable System Restore to ... Read more

So i have upgraded my system from win 7 to win 8.1 and i've had problems from the start.
After i've had installed my drivers i rebooted and the system woulden't even boot anymore, just a black screen with the blinking White underline. I then did a system repair and it started, but froze and restarted on login. After some fiddeling around in failsafe(don't really remember what i did) it would let me login again.

But now the entire system has started to stutter and feel unresponsive in pretty much Everything. Like when right clicking on anything the entire system sometimes completely stops for a couple of seconds and then resume. The strangest thing i've noticed is when i hover over the start button the entire system freezes for a couple of seconds too and then resume, and for some seconds after that i can hover over the start button and click it and i works, but if i then do something else like click on Explorer the system once again lock up for a Little while and then resumes. This stuttering occurs randomly in pretty much everthing and it's extremely annoying ofcourse.

i've noticed from taskmgr that when i hover over the start button Explorer.exe's cpu usage jumps up after the system starts moving again and when i click on something else System jumps up.

I've tried all kinds of things.

i have no idea if this helps but from my eventlog i have some warnings and errors like

I am a member of a popular flash video website (not YouTube). Last night, I accessed the website with no issue. This morning, I cannot access the website.

It feels as though I'm being redirected, but this is the only website that is having this issue. I have tried to access the website on four different computers. Two of mine, and two of my husbands. They're all running different operating systems, all different hardware, etc. They all come back with the same redirect page.

When I try to access the website in question, instead of seeing the website as I always have, I am instead directed to a page with the domain name "searchmagnifed[dot]com". I asked members of the same website if they were having issues accessing the site, to which they told me no, and that they were using it fine.

So, I immediately used Malwarebytes to check both my PCs, which came back with no reported infections. Then I used Avast! to scan my computers for virii, and that has also come back clean.

To add to that, one of the computers having this problem is actually running a fresh install not even 20 hours ago of Windows XP because I recently had a hard drive die on me.

I have searched using google, to no avail about this particular website I'm being redirected to (searchmagnified[dot]com).

If you would like to know the particular website I am trying to access without success, feel free to send me a private message, as it is NSFW and inappropriate to list here, in my opinio... Read more

Hi! I have a DVD-CD drive that works when it feels like it. Actually, I've switched drives a couple of times, and the problem occurs with whatever drive I use in that computer. I've checked all the connections---including reconnecting them a few times with the same drive. I want to killdisk the hard drive and reinstall with a smaller partition and dual-boot with linux. I know I can partition through windows, but I want a clean install. I put in the killdisk disk, check the BIOS to make sure I boot from the DVD-CD drive first. Nothing. When I get into windows I go to Windows Explorer, right-click on the drive to check the properties, and it says it's a blank disk. I can put the disk in another computer, and there's no problem. After it said there was nothing on the disk, I tried another DVD disk, a Beatles video, and it worked. What's causing this to happen.? Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey everyone, I received my very first tablet PC (multi-touch i5 ThinkPad X220T) about a week ago and I'm amazed at what a powerful machine it is! However, I've been noticing uneven patches on the screen that I can feel when I write, but cannot see. When I write on those areas, the pen feels jumpy and the sound of the pen on the screen suddenly becomes louder and more scratchy.  Has anyone else had a simliar experience? Is this to be expected in tablet PCs, or is there a fault in the screen? I appreciate any feedback I can get on this and thanks in advance!

Answer:Screen feels bumpy?

Yes, I noticed this too. I have an x61t that doesn't have this problem, but its screen is very different from the screen on the x220t. It's definitely not "expected in tablet PCs" but it seems to be rather common for this particular one: there was another thread about this a few weeks ago. One of the suggestions there was to "clean the screen," which does alleviate the problem, but only for about two seconds. I've learned to live with it.

Hey all,

I have a bit of a problem, my friend had a lot of errors with his pc so i did him a favour by formatting his pc. i did this by bringing his hard drive over and plugging it into my pc. both the pcs are p4. okay then i formatted his pc to windows xp media centre edition. then next time i went over to his pace i plugged it in and the pc switched on but the monitor did not respond. i was grounded while fitting in the hard drive so i dont think static was the problem. after a while i completely outted the power to his system by ythe mains and tried again, and to my surprise it worked then we were watching some videos and it suddenly went off. then i tried again and the monitor wont respond i cheked all the connections theyre fine, then i thought it might be the graphics card so i re seated it and nothing. please help i have tried everything i know and i am getting frustrated cause i am being pressurised your help will be REALLLLYYYY appreciated

(Warning, I am not very good at english, but I hope you understand what I want to tell you)

Hello everyone

According to my other topic in the Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware forum, I basically want to ask you if you can help me finding out if I am infected by spy/hijack/malware. Like I said in the other topic, I downloaded a mod for minecraft, including a software called something like uniblue an some remove and optimizing tools. I didn't made use of them, also I just was looking for a turorial to remove them and found one, I have uninstalled uniblue and all its contents, then I started Adwcleaner , removed everything it found and then I wanted to start JRT, but it doesn't work yet for me (in my other topic you can see why). Then I started to run Malwarebytes to remove the rest. But still my computer feels slow, slower than usually and I don't know if I'm just imagining that or if there still is something that hurts the system.

If you need a logfile from Adwcleaner or Malwarebytes, please tell me (where can I find them?). Just JRT doesn't work for now.

Again, sorry for my bad english, I hope it's enough to make you understand what I want to say.

I hope there is a solution for my problem, I would be very glad to get any help I can get.
Thank you so much!

Best regards,
Grinch23

Answer:Computer restarting when it feels like it

Does it just reboot with no error message? Or does it give you a BSOD?

Start > Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > under 'Startup and Recovery' click Settings > under 'System Failure' uncheck 'Automatically restart'. > Click OK on all dialog boxes.

If it does it again, and you get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) then give us:
The words in all caps on the top of the screen (something like IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, not necessarily that, but that's an example);
and the STOP code, which is formatted like this: 0x000000##, where ## = some numbers/letters.

You could also try a spare power supply and see if that is the culprit. Are you sure its not heat issues? Have you checked what the CPU temps are?

Hi there,

Hoping someone can solve this mystery for me. Just "upgraded" my computer, but the performance is way below par and games (e.g., "Portal") that used to load in <10sec simply... don't. Here's what I upgraded:

AMD Athlon64 3200+
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
1GB (DDR)

to...

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+
ASUS M3A
2GB (DDR2)

and I brought my 120 + 160GB HDDs, and Asus EAX1950Pro over to the new board. Also relevant is I'm running XPPro SP2 with all software updates applied (I did a clean install on my OS partition).

My symptoms:
- In Task Manager, I haven't seen CPU usage drop below 44%. When idling, the first core hovers between 0 and 40% and the second core shows a virtually constant 85-95%. This has persisted since the first time booting Windows, with virtually no background tasks.
- When the system actually does some work, the first core kicks in and the second drops down. That is, peaks in core 1 correspond to valleys in the core 2 graph. Never below around 50% though.
- The game I've been trying to get running, just to make sure everything is working, is Portal. Relatively small but high system requirements, but should be fine because it ran on my old system, right? No. I get to the loading screen and it just sits there. When I tap the Win key to try and get it to minimize, it doesn't, but I can tell the Start menu is working because if I move the mouse to where it "should" be, it changes to the regular arrow. I... Answer:Upgrade feels like a downgrade

first thing i don't recomend using a registry cleaner. it is ok but sometimes you don't know what you are deleting. you said you have upgraded and then reinstalled windows. if this is the case i think you will need to upgrade all you driver. if you use a program called performance test that cna be downloaded for 30 day trial. do a scan of you system with that and it will tell you the pc's performance then go and upgrade driver and then see the number increase.

try disk clean up. click start run then type "cleanmgr.exe"

try disk defragmentor- start run type "dfrg.msc"

those are some recommendation as well as unchecking the program that start up. you say the processes are running high which ones in particular and as well have you fone virus scans or spyware etc.

Hi,

This issue is bugging me for quite some time - My rig is A64 3000, 1GB, 6600GT AGP, NF3 250GB. I have one 200GB WD SATA HD and a 120GB WD PATA HD. Windows XP Pro is installed on the SATA drive.

The problem is that the HDs always feel busy, even if there's not much stress in the system. At first I thougt it was the page file, but looking the PF usage, showed it wasn't. It goes as far as that when I maximize a minimized window of Firefox, it actually get some time till it get done, while accessing the HD - and there's plenty of free RAM.

The worse part is when I'm moving large files from one HD to another (like a 10GB folder) - Then the system gets almost completley unresponsive.

I double checked DMA settings, and it looks fine (I'm running Nvidia IDE driver 2.6).

It was also the same when the SATA drive was the only drive in the system.

Any thoughts ????

Thanks.

Hello k2dragon,

Windows? does have a couple of built-in 'garbage cleaners'.

1: Right click > Internet Explorer Desktop Icon > Properties > Delete cookies > OK > Delete Files > Tick the box > Delete all offline content > OK ...now click the Content Tab > Clear SSL State > OK .

2: How to use the Windows? XP Disk CleanUp tool. ( Click the coloured link. )

These two utilities will help keep the HDD 'clean'...use them both regularly, as well as using The Disk Defragmenter once a week.
Both of them will only delete the unnecessary 'garbage', whereas other system cleaners can remove vital files.
I have got into the habit of using Method One every night as part of the shutdown process, and Method Two once a week.

3: Go Start > Run > type in the box msconfig > Enter.
This opens the System Configuration Utility > StartUp > list here are all the programs that are set to start with Windows?.
Untick those that you do not want to start with Windows > Apply > ok; the computer will want to reboot; allow it to do so.
If you are unsure which programs are safe to disable; post a list here and we will advise you.

Please Note: Do Not disable your Anti Virus or 'real time' Anti Spyware programs.

Upon restarting, a Pane will open stating that you have altered the StartUp Configuration; tick the box Don't show this message again, and you are right to go.

When I turn my Internet Explorer on, my favorites are there. After a few minutes, they disappear, and when I go to add a favorite, it asks me if I want to replace an old one. Also crap like Aolmail (LOLAOL), and other...applets I guess...applications, don't work anymore. Ad-Aware 2007 also randomly ends during a scan, even though I've scanned in safe mode, cleaned infections, then full scanned in normal mode and deleted 127. The last time it got up to "27 infections and then crashed". Windows Media Player also won't play wmv files. I'm kind of confused as to why any of this is happening, I use Trend Micro Housecall, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Avast...all net settings are on high security, etc....

Please take a look at this log. Lineage 2 is a popular MMORPG I play (similar to World of Warcraft) so don't worry about that.

I am having a problem with my application's sound being dimmed down to almost nothing and left there after either plugging in a flash drive, or sometimes for reasons unknown. See the attached picture for what I mean. This screen was taken right after I plugged in my flash drive. I'm thinking it does this every time that windows makes a "babump" sound, but that's just my guess.

What do I need to stop it from manipulating my volumes whenever it pleases? This is getting old, going into my volume mixer to fix it every time.

Thanks

-also note that the original volumes look ghosted

Answer:sound dips in and out whenever it feels

I couldn't seem to find a way to fix it, so I reinstalled my audio drivers, and I no longer seem to have this problem. Hopefully it doesn't come back.

Hello Every One,I've been noticing the performance of the laptop has been terribly slow and now it is confirmed that the other laptop is affected with loads of malware and I've been working on that to fix but unfortunately no luck. I will post those details in a separate thread. The only reason why I would think this laptop might be affected may be because of wireless router, but you experts know for sure what it would be. I started reading the forums and followed the steps in the preparation guide, here is the first step - the two files from dds, log/attach for your review. Please let me know the next steps. My computer has been acting f-d up since this summer. I allowed my boyfriends mother and sister use my computer untill they repaired there crashed computer or purchase two new lap tops leaving me with this mess. I just want to be able to play my online games (CS, GW, WOW, Warcraft, etc.) without having these ''system suggestive downloads'' pop-ups. I have no access to my ''add or remove programs''. In the startup folder there are to applications called ''autorun'' and ''system'' that even if deleted they re-appear. I have alot of other things, a few weeks ago I was unable to use google, and frequently my internet pages close at any random given time, it really makes paying bills, checking my grades, and running emails difficult. I do not know what is wrong or even more so where to begin. I have litte resourses for removal programs or repairs etc. anything that I can do manually (with full instructions) I am fully prepared to do. My computer feels like its being TAKEN OVER!
Included below is the results I have from the Webroot Spy Sweer that I downloaded and the HiJack log.

I noticed that my hard drive light in on more than it seems it should be when the computer is beyond screensaver and has turned off the monitor (screensaver is on for 20 min and monitor and hard drive turn off after 1 hour)
I noticed in Windows Task Manager under Processes that isass.exe is using 15 20 percent CPU.
I check out one of your threads and followed their lead. I downloaded the latest version of HJT and ran SDFix and included both logs. I was hoping for some help.

So iīve bought a new system, with a 4200+ X2 processor, but it feels kinda slow, i really cant tell very much difference between this and my old P4 2.8 GHz.
Is there something i have to do to "get it going"?
Cuz this is kinda dissappointing i must say.

In 3dmark 06 i get 0.311 FPS in the first cpu-test, and 0.502 FPS in the second.

And one more thing, i thought i would be able to play Oblivion with high settings and good fps, but it really runs bad, is it because the computer only have 1GB ram? I have the x1950xt GPU so i cant imagine it being anything else, unless itīs the cpu but i cant imagine it being that bad.
I am very thankfull for any help.

And since itīs my first post here, hey all!

Answer:4200+ X2 feels very slow

well unless your doing multitasking you wont notice a huge difference, I never did changing from a 3200+ to my E6600 core 2 duo. The only impact I do see is if copying or opening .zip or .rar files, using multimedia apps like 3dsmax or photoshop and converting avi's to mpg2.

Now in oblivion what res are you running? do you have the latest drivers? also if you run everything on max it`ll still die id recommend AA on x4 AF x4 or x8 and turn soft shadows off it`ll kill most things and in oblivion it looks rubbish.

Also to note there was an X2 hotfix awhile back not sure if its still needed but worth a shot:

After having made the mistake of leaving my pc available for anyone to use for anything while i wasnt around, ive been chasing my tail trying to get back to a clean slate. Ive recently gotten a hold of a new XP setup cd (was lost for a long time), and managed to make some registry adjustments so my computer would recognize my cd and dvd drives so i could use said cd. Any way I got into the setup sequence and was suprised not to come across a format/partition option, at which point i wouldve formatted C:/ and started anew. Since that wasnt available I installed a new OS on a different drive on a physically separate HD, and now I still can not format the C: drive. Ive tried CMD, WRC, and every other way I could think of and still get the message that windows can not complete the format. no error code or reason why. I apologize for the monologue, any ideas?

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a computer second hand and figured that it would have some problems but in the last tw days ive been fighting with all kinds of problems. Firstly, i can not download anything. Like if i click a link online (like those on download.com for example) the web page just times out. I managed to use my roommates laptop to download avast antivirus which found 7 trojans, and either deleted or (for the ones in windows folders) quarantined them. Two have been in windows folders, one was disguised in a volume control folder, the other i have here said:c:\WINDOWS\system32\_c0094A9E.datOther problems ive noticed is the machine suddenly restating (twice) and whenever i type a search in google for example, the first few hits are never what they should be. Like if i typed wikipedia into google, wikipedia's actual site would be fifth on the list underneath 'antivirus sites' and links to search engines ive never heard of. Also when opening when pages, sometimes an additional web page loads up with the address urbtk.com but always ends up blank. Ive noticed resistance when trying to run antivirus software and going to anti malware sites too. Lastly, my keyboard omitts letters sometimes.I have a hijack this log but have no idea how to decipher it so hopefully theres something on there, and hopefully someone can help. Thanks for reading even if you are unable to help, and to anyone who can i offer thanks in advance.StevenLogfile of Trend Micro Hijack... Read more

I've noticed that no matter what I do, at one point or another Firefox does not want to load websites that I want to visit. It really isn't even a matter of a certain website, it just decides when and when not to load a website. For instance, one day I could type in YouTube.com and it will load perfectly and then the next it just wants to hang there and do nothing (unless I am just impatient). I can see the little thing in the tab spinning, but it will not load the website. The only way I can get it to load is to press the "X" in the URL bar to stop it from loading and press the reload button. When I press the reload button it goes straight to the website. Once again this could be for any website: Google, IMDb, Facebook, etc. Sometimes they load and sometimes they don't until I reload the website.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? It only seems to happen in Firefox; Chrome and IE all load the websites just fine. Please let me know. Thank you. (I am up to version 32 in Firefox)

Answer:Firefox will load websites only when it feels like it

Try deleting the cache & history. Next time it happens try Ctrl+F5

F5 will reload the page, but Ctrl+F5 also overrides the cache

I was just trying to turn on another computer in the house and it wouldn't power up. Made sure the switch on the PSU was "on" but hitting the case's power button wasn't doing anything. I opened the case up and the power supply feels quite warm. Could it've burned out suddenly when we just tried to turn it on? The motherboard looks fine (no scorch marks) and none of the other components feel hot.

(EDIT-) I took the PSU out to test it on its own, and when I plugged it into a power cord there was a loud pop and a spark. I can hear something rattling around in it now, too. I think it's a dead PSU...

Has anyone experienced this? I'm on a Z77 chipset board with ROM 11+ and TRIM enabled (I've checked and TRIM is working) yet Windows 8 feels more sluggish installed in two Samsung 840 SSDs on RAID 0 than in a single one. Even though benchmarks with CrystalDiskMark say differently (the raid 0 array has double the throughput of the single SSD) programs load faster, file explorer moves faster, etc., on the single SSD. What could it possibly be? Is the Raid 0 controller adding overhead of some kind?

Answer:One SSD feels faster than two SSDs in Raid 0 for OS.

It's probably not actually slower, but aside from higher throughput you won't see much difference. I think you set your expectations to see a vast improvement and it just isn't going to happen.

Greetings, I am running Vista 64 on a dual quad core with 8GB of RAM and the more I work with it, the slower it gets. Attempts to make it run faster have resulted in the opposite happening.Currently, I am suffering from sketchy internet connectivity and I had to get rid of the Vista GUI in favor of Windows "Classic" since every time I run memory intensive applications my screen blew up on me and become psychedelic (Read the post here)In any event, I have decided that my unfamiliarity with Vista 64 and the fact that I never had any issues like this I am turning to the experts.I run all the suggested steps before posting the log, except for As-Aware which crashes about 15 minutes into the scan. According to the various on board and online Antivirus, the machine is clean. Yet, with stats like mine it should absolutely scream, instead of giving me this Windows 95 performance. This has got to a point where I am sick to my stomach. After spending good money for the best my money could afford, I could have gone to Circuit City and got a blue light special for the same money I spent in RAM. I am hoping the log will ring a bell for someone and that I find a solution to this soon.Thank you.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 2:38:16 PM, on 2/21/2008Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16609)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Ink\TabTip32.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot ...
