I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Gobi 4000 issue

Coworker just bought both of us Gobi 4000 cards. I have a T420 and he has an X220. Both machines boot fine with the cards installed (no white list error), I even got the drivers installed successfully on both. The antenna does not turn on via the software switch. I tried the broadband activation software but it's not recognizing that an installed product. Access Connections kept referring me to use the broadband activation software lol! Any ideas?

I have a number of Thinkpad x131e notebook PCs and need to order a WWAN module for it.  The only supported WWAN mPCI-e card listed is the Gobi 3000 MC8355 model, which is the slower 3G modem.  Has anyone used the GOBI 4000 or 5000 series LTE modems? I've seen posts about Lenovo whitelisting certain hardware, but I can't seem to find that list.  Are there electrical limitations that would prevent Lenovo from whitelisting the LTE modems?  If not, this type of hardware lock would be a deal breaker for any future Thinkpad orders for my company. Hardware is Thinkpad x131e Type 3372 Thanks,Jay

Answer:Gobi 4000 in x131e?

x131e doesn't support Gobi 4000 or 5000 or any other LTE wwan cards officially. Look at the followed file and find out "wireless card" section:http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/X131e_AMD_FRU_BOM.pdfJust Ericsson h5321gw is another supported wwan card. It's a bit faster then Gobi 3000 but doesn't support US wireless CDMA/EV-DO carriers.

It now looks like Lenovo is now only offering the Gobi 4000 AT&T version withthe new X1 Carbons. Just prior to launch they were listing the Ericson 3G card. Anyone know if we can swap out the AT&T Gobi 4000 one for a Verizon Gobi? How aboutthe laptops that came with the Ericson, can we just replace the WAN card witheither Gobi 4000? Will the Bios not block any of these options? Is the antennasetup the same?

Answer:X1 Carbon NOW WITH GOBI 4000? LTE AT&T

Well this is very odd. The disassembly photos here clearly show it only supports a half height card.I found this page which shows an Ericson card, but has GOBI 4000 listed under physical specs (with the model number for a full-size GOBI 4000).

Qualcomm has recently released 4G LTE compatible Gobi 4000 card. Is Lenovo planning to sell the card as an upgrade accessory? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Gobi 4000 at Lenovo

hey mariner, welcome to the forums and indeed Qualcomm did release a 4G compatible card, as whether or not Lenovo will be selling the card is hard to say.as Lenovo will normally run test on the card to ensure compatibility before selling it.

Hello everyone, I wish you all Merry Christmas! My question is quite simple. Is the Gobi 4000 compatible with W520 or not?If not why is that?I know that the Gobi 3000 is for the Lenovo W520,but it seems that it doesn't support 4G LTE via carrier's mobile network and that is why I want to buy the Gobi 4000.

Answer:Gobi 4000 Compatibility for W520 CTO

Hi, fasdf78

I did some research and found this thread that deals with the same question, albeit a different machine. Sadly, the Gobi 4000 is not compatible in any machines not listed here on Lenovo's website, due to it not being on the whitelist in your BIOS. The whitelist is a list of devices that are compatible with your machine. The Gobi 4000 is not part of the whitelist, unfortunately. Also, the antennas for 4G are different than those for 3G found in the Gobi 3000.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
Adam

Hi all, I have a t420s and so far I'm happy with it. Recently I purchased a MC7700 card from ebay with lenovo FRU. Everything looks smooth except that I found there is no way to turn on the mobile broadband switch. I believe I have a whitelist-removed bios otherwise it won't boot. The driver downloaded from lenovo website is installed fine, I can see the card working in device manager. I could read the iccid in windows network settings. Everything looks good, but I just can't turn mobile broadband on. I mean, everything is fine, but I am having a hard time fighting with this problem. How can I turn it on? My laptop runs windows 8.1, I heard there is a thinkvantage connectivity tool that might work for windows 7 but not windows 8. I have quite a few files on my laptop and going back to windows 7 is the last option I would like to try. Many thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the CommunityLenovo Access Connections doesn't work under win8.Did you install Lenovo Power Management driver, Hotkey Fetures package and Lenovo Settings Dependecy package from the support site? All of them are needed in order to modem could work. Also there is Lenovo Settings metro application in m$ store. Then use wireless radio switch and press Fn+F5 for the wireless control window.Wireless networking could be controled under win8 network manager. Or install Sierra Wireless Watcher manager which has many useful features you might need for the LTE card management.Let me ask you a question - what are the card USB identificators (IDs)? Look them in Device Manager.

Hi! I just received my W530 from UPS yesterday, opened it up, and put in my Gobi 4000 Verizon card that I also got from Lenovo as advised by the rep who helped me with the order. When I turned the notebook on, I got an error that said "1802 - Unauthorized network is plugged in." Google turned up that these errors happened when you use non-Lenovo/IBM cards, but my card is purchased directly from Lenovo on the same order as my notebook. I also got an extended warranty on this computer, so I don't want to void that. What should I do? Thanks in advance. To clarify, I got the W530 as "Broadband upgradeable" (because the Gobi 4000 wasn't available preinstalled) and purchased the Gobi here: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/itemdetails/0A36318/460/5166FF91DAB5442C846A84A5FA006F9D

This may seem like a stupid question, so forgive me. I am wanting to purchase the x230, and thinking about getting the gobi 4000 card.  However, my questions is this: I have a Verizon Wireless plan with truly unlimited data... one of those that got grandfathered in. Now, can I take the sim card out of my phone, plug it into the gobi card in the x230, and get Internet access? Thanks.

Answer:X230 question regarding the Gobi 4000 mobile broadband cards

Will you get Sierra Wireless mc7750 card (Gobi 4000 for Verizon Wireless, FRU 0A36318) inside of your laptop or install it yourself? If the answer is "yes", my answer for your question is "yes".But as I know Verizon doesn't need sim card for internet access, you just need to activate your modem with plan in carrier' network using Lenovo Mobile Broadband application. Download it from the site.

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

What does Athlon "64 X2 4000 Dual Core 4000 Processor" mean? I have asystem running at 2.1Ghz and want to buy a motherboard kit to go faster and improve gamability. All the upgrades used to talk about processor speed but now it seems rare to find the spec saying what speed the processor works at. I know they were talking about the speed becomeing difficult to asess in the future but if a game asks for a 2.8 or 3 gig processor how can I identify the right bundle?

Answer:What does Athlon 64 X2 4000 Dual Core 4000 Process

The 4000 bit is the main thing to look at really what they are saying is that it is equivalent to a 4 ghz computer processor, I say equivalent as the processor won't run at that speed it will run slower but because of the way it actually does its work it will be equivalent to a 4 ghz processor.Clear as mud isn't it? Sorry doing my best. The dual core and the x2 tells you it has 2 processors on the one chip so it can run 2 applications at the same time with no loss of speed, if it was a single core and you did the same thing then it would be half the speed as the processor would have to split its processing over the 2 programs. The mention of the 64 is that its optimised for 64 bit windows which doesn't really mean that much as 99 of people do not have 64 bit windows and 64 bit windows has a few differculties with things. Some of the newer games are actually optimised to take advantage of dual core and will run better on a dual core system.Thats roughly it. A 4000 dual core processor is not slow by any means but its rather old and really unless its really, really cheap you should be looking at something a bit faster.

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

Answer:gobi 2000, wwan not detected - non-lenovo GOBI 2000

Hi, eyeland

Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hi,

i'm begining to get togeather specs for my new pc, and i'm not sure which processor to get value and performance wise. It's mostly between the single core 64 4000 and the dual core 3800, though if the x2 4000 has somthing special to offer (which im not aware of) i might fork out the extra cash.

What i'd like to know is that does having a dual core processor boast much of an advantage over a single core. The two CPU's are pretty much the same price, but i heard the X2 3800 overclocks really well, so maybe i could get it to 4200 or 4400 on a decent mobo with an ok cooler? If this is true, then the 3800 will definately be my choise.

However, i dont know the overclocking capablilites of the single core 4000, so can anyone give me their opinion on what they think would be the best purchase?

(i would be using my system for pretty intensive gaming)

Also, i'd like your opinion on this cooler; is it a good one for the price, will it let me overclock much and is it worth getting?

http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/product.php?productid=17124

Thanks

Answer:What to get? AMD64 4000, 64 X2 3800 or an X2 4000?

Based on THIS I`d go for the AMD Athlon X2 3800+

If you intend to oc to the max then maybe liquid cooling is the way to go.

Question: x201i SSD

Hello. I just purchased an x201i. I currently have a Dell XPS M1530 with a 2.5 in 256 SSD samsung ssd pb22-js3. Would I be able to transfer this SSD to the x201i? I don't know much about this SSD, I'm guessing it likely doesn't have TRIM. Thanks

Answer:x201i SSD

I don't see why you couldn't transfer that SSD over to your ThinkPad, although I would completely wipe that drive and do a fresh install of the OS and apps. Not sure about TRIM though. I know current Samsung SSD's do have TRIM support but not familiar with the SSD that you have.

Hi I was planning to get upcoming Intel G3 SSD for my Lenovo X201i. Just recently I heard that there could be a firmwire defining, what SSDs you can install to your Lenovo notebook. Is this true? Can I install just any standard 2,5" Sata SSD or are there only specific models that will work? I know Lenovo has 160G2 on their own lists, but wonder if the G3 will be also supported. If the G3 delays, theres always a change to get some Sandforce driven SSD which are very low on power consumption and have high perfomance. Should this be a problem? For example Corsair Force Series is good value SSD here in Finland. Thanks in advance

Question: X201i vs. X201

Can someone please enlighten me on the main differences between the 2? I had done some search but the results are not telling. Cheers!

Answer:X201i vs. X201

While the build quality and design are identical, there are some hardware differences. I believe the main difference is that the X201i comes with a lower-clocked Core i3 processor which does not have turbo boost while the X201 comes with a Core i5 (or i7, if available) which has turbo boost. Basically, the X201i has a moderately slower processor at a lower cost. Other notable differences for the X201i are that it does not include a webcam, a Bluetooth adapter, or a fingerprint reader. However, accessories such as the Ultrabase and 4/6/9 cell battery packs will be compatible with both the X201 and X201i. You can read more details about it in Lenovo's personal systems reference for Thinkpads here:http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf Hope this helps!

Just about had it with this thing; x201i x64 on Win7 (less than a year old)- bluescreen errors upon waking from sleep -- been doing this since i got it (near as i recollect).- issue with intel (r) hd driver and wudfrd.sys -- not sure when this began, but perhaps when i updated the drivers- device mgr reports no probs (in fact, sfc, chkdsk, pcdoc ... most every ute tells me my computer is just dandy, workin fine)- sound is all of a sudden scratchy, laggy, utter crap... and only since updating drivers to the latest... from lenovo.- video is likewise suddenly crap. installed win7 update, after installing the necessary patch - have subsequently uninstalled.  used system update from lenovo.  nothin. tried startup repair.  tried sys.restore.  having recently installed new ram, ran windows memory test (not memtest - don't have time) and the lenovo/repair memory test... all checks out fine.  googled extensively and ran just about every win7 troubleshooter.   i find it particularly irksome that updates from lenovo appear to have helped nothing... and worse yet, actually appear to have caused new issues. never thought i'd say it, but this computer has me rethinking thinkpad altogether.  anyone having similar probs - or any idea what the hell is wrong with my tp?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a X201i (with Core i3) at costcentral.com (see http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Lenovo_ThinkPad_X201i_3249/3249J2U/11070749/) and was wondering if it is eligible for IWS (international warranty). The model number (3249) shows that it is eligible for IWS, but I'm not sure that this also applies to the budget X201i model, since the X201 also comes as a 3249 model. Also, I was wondering if I could purchase the Thinkplus extended service from Costcentral (since it's cheaper than Lenovo) for 4 or 5 years for the X201i (which has only 1 year standard warranty), and if the extended service would apply internationally. Thanks

Answer:X201i warranty question

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/warrantyLookup.do?type=3249&x=0&y=0&iws=on&sitestyle=leno... this is the list of countries where your laptop is eligible for international warranty. The international warranty follows the first 4 digit of the type number, so the IWS warranty would equally apply for the X201 and X201i model. The model designation does not really matter or the price for that matter. For example you could buy a X301 and have very limited international warranty, while a R500 that is one fourth of the price may have coverage in most of the world. When, IWS follows your warranty, so when you extend it, the international warranty also gets extended automatically. Hopefully that helps.

I suddenly get a BSOD as the computer is shutting down. It seems to be right before the power is cut, i.e. after Windows' logging off and shutting down messages. From the event viewer I got the error messages pasted below. As you can see, the messages are not exactly the same from these two samples (I get the BSOD *every* time, though), but the common denominator is the smihlp2 driver - and I understand this has something to do with the fingerprint reader.

I'm on an X201i 324CTO with Win7 Home Premium, 64-bit. Please do help - any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I managed to do away with the problem, but I'm not sure exactly why. I repaired the fingerprint software installation and emptied the Windows Search Index, and then I didn't get the shutdown BSODs anymore.

Hi, I just recently purchased a replacement screen for my TP X201i from AUO (product code: B121EW09 V.2). I delicately put it all in.However, when I boot my laptop up, everything works apart from the screen. The one cable that fits into the screen is in, but there is still no image coming up on my screen. What could  be wrong? Could it possibly be the video cable has come out from the mobo?regards,A.

Answer:Replacing X201i screen.

Make sure the cable is well attached to the mobo and also check that the cable to the LED board is firmly connected as well

I have a X201i and the other day out no where the fan stooped working now  every time i turn it on i get Fan Error OK so I purchased the replacement fan and installed without problem the fan didn't work, bought a another one thinking i got a damage fan still the same problem, i have found a way to  bypass the Fan Error message by pressing and holding f8, or f9 keys before the Fan Error message, check for Bios update but i already have the latest one, check the board but can't seen to located any blow fuse since i have no idea how the fuse on this board looks like, downloaded the open source fan control for Lenovo laptops and the software doesn't work, clean up the board ans still the same Fan Error problem. Does anybody have a solution or suggestion to fix this problem other than buying a motherboard ?

Does anybody know if it is possible/advisable to "update" one's BIOS to a previous version? That is, are there additional problems involved with downgrading the BIOS than the common risks with BIOS upgrades?  What I'm considering doing is downgrading to the version released in late June 2013, since it supposedly fixes the battery drain issue. Nobody at Lenovo apparently cares to respond to any of my queries of how it is possible that I have a newer version of the BIOS than is currently posted as the newest one (I have 1.40-1.20 installed since Oct-2012; the latest, new version posted Jun-2013 is 1.40-1.15) nor what to do about it. So I'm considering going ahead and reinstalling (overwriting) my current BIOS with the one posted on the web site: 1.40-1.15. (I'm experiencing quite severe problems with heat as well as terrible battery drain post upgrading to Win8 Pro.) I'm no BIOS expert, so I am unaware of any risks or potential problems by downgrading one's BIOS. Perhaps there's nothing to it and amounts to the same as any BIOS upgrade/install. If so, please let me know. I'm in complete lack of reliable expertise. Thank you!

Answer:Can I downgrade the BIOS on my X201i?

bylund wrote: (I'm experiencing quite severe problems with heat as well as terrible battery drain post upgrading to Win8 Pro.)

I'd tend to believe that your problems are related to W8 and not the BIOS version that you're running.

That being said, yes you can downgrade the BIOS and the risks are the exact same ones that are present during any BIOS upgrade.

Good luck.

Hello, I have purchased and installed an approved Thinkpad WWAN module (think its a Gobi 2000), but I had to remove a half height Intel mini pcie card to put the WWAN card in. I know have no wifi card showing in device manager. The obvious answer is that I've taken the wifi card out - can someone please confirm that the X201 has no onboard wifi chips? I'm hoping that the mini pcie was an upgrade of some kind (wireless n?), and that I can get the onbaord wifi workign if there is any. Have googled quite a bit but no luck so far. Thanks! PS The laptop is an X201i model number 3323 1ZG

Our X201i 3323 BTG turns itself off now and then. It looks like a hardware problem because it turns off instantly without any wobble from Windows 7 32-bit. The latest BIOS version and the latest drivers are installed. So far, it never happened when the X201i was connected to a network cable. It only happened on wireless, and one time shortly after turning on. In the latter case, the wireless switch was turned on but the X201i had not yet been connected because Windows 7 had just begun to boot. We will send the X201i in for repair or return. I am just dropping this message in case someone else has the same problem.

Answer:X201i turns itself off instantly

try updating the wireless driver or switch off the wireless in bios, and see whether this problem occurs.

Hello, I recently received a 2.5 years old x201i laptop. When I turn it on for the 1st time every few days - The display is distorted, unless I adjust the lcd angle to a different angle with my hand.I can't recreate the problem manually, It just happens once every few days when I turn on the computer. If i move the lcd angle manually when it does not happen, Everything looks ok. I managed to video it when it happend today : http://www.mediafire.com/file/3ds46z3hk3ovz69/x201i2.mp4 Please advise, Thank you

Answer:x201i distorted display

this could be either an issue of:1. LCD controller board detaching from the LCD (which means you need a new LCD)2. or a video cable issue (loose or bad connection).

Hello, I recently bought a x201i (3249MDU) with 6-cell battery and I am seeing a slight movement on the battery. The battery giggles about 1-1.5mm. Could someone please tell me if this is a issue with x201 or do i need to have this battery replaced that fits perfectly with the movement. Note: The battery works fine and have not seen any loss of power due to the movement, but it does kinda make me uncomfortable. Thank you. Regards,Ahirani

Answer:x201i Battery movement issue

Sorry I wish I had better news but your unit is not a one off bad batch of stupidity, Yep they do not fit correctly !! and they have a lot of play in them, this is due to the fact they only have one lock holding the battery in place, most other manufactures have one on either side. You really have to wonder considering how tough a market exists for laptops that such an obvious flaw managed to make it though quality control. Even more mysterious considering this is not an inexpensive laptop, if it was a typical dirt cheap netbook you might be forgiven for the lack of consideration to the quality of the unit. This is a major quality fail and I might add not very many reviews picked this fault up hmmmm isn't that interesting...

Hi,

First of all, pardon me for my bad English. I'm from Malaysia and today I've just gotten my newly shipped X201i and of course I was very excited to look at my brand new X201i after 2 years of satisfied user of X60s. Unfortunately, things doesn't turned out to be exactly what I've expected. Would like to seek for some advice, did anyone face this problem before as describe below?

Upon opening up the wrap which was sealed, immediately I've noticed a huge crack between the battery slot and the LCD.

http://ann.dj/Lenovo_X201i/2.jpg

I was stunned by this crack! How could this happen?! The box are perfectly fine, and there's not sign of damage on the box and it was just fresh out of the box!

Without 2nd thought, I quickly drove out to Lenovo service center to seek for help because there's no way to slot in the battery in this situation.

Upon arrival, I informed the person who pick up this case however, they seems reluctant to accept this condition because they think it is intentional damage on the chassis. I did tried to explain to the customer service:

1) The box is fine without any damage. I received this unit with another box covering this lenovo box.
2) The notebook definitely handled with care, it is brand new! If the notebook has been drop before, there's definitely a sign of dent or scratches at the edge or any other part of the notebook together with this crack but it is perfectly fine without any single scratches or dent... Read more

Answer:[Help] - Lenovo X201i Hardware QC issue?

That's terrible. Looks like the part was damaged before assembly. My guess is production line pressure ie employee afraid of repremaind. From a laypersons perspective unless someone took a screwdriver and tried to pry that part with intention to crack it, there is no other way it could look like that. Doesnt look like a drop. I hope you get it resolved. One way is to ask your credit card company to halt payment and this would force action if you have not received a considerate ear yet.

It is something makes me very confused. I assessed the Windows Experience Index with the original hardware spe and it gave me 6.9 for the CPU, however, after I replaced the harddisk and reloaded the system, the CPU score goes down to 3.9 only and it becomes the lowest among the 5 performace components. After several re-try, the same 3.9 score was given. After changed back to the original harddisk, the score goes back to 6.9. The power setting has been set to the best performing level. Though this score is not so critical for me, but I would really like to know why such thing happened. Anyboby have some idea?

I've had this problem since the first day I got it. I don't think it's my monitor's problem since it's the same situation on two different displays. I'm running windows XP. Today I decided I can't live with it. I've tried everything I got from online knowledge base. I just updated my BIOS and display driver. I adjusted the graphic power plan setting to "on battery". I even ungrounded my display's plug. None of them works. Forgot to mention, it stops flickering whenever I unplug and run on battery. And interestingly enough, whenever I start skype video, the flickering stops too. More update: the flickering stops if I set external screen as the only display. And update: I unplugged my ethernet and now it's not flickering! Gotta go with wireless!

After about a year of excellent work my X201i started to wake up suddenly from hibernate. It happens from time to time and I can't see any special reasons that lead to this behavior. I suspect it happens with power supply attached only but I'm not sure. I don't see any useful info in system logs. It can be in connection with Gobi2000 installed but I'm not sure also. Does anyone know how it can be fixed?

Hey MadBullfrog,

A couple of things could be bring your computer out of hibernate, and wanted to suggest you check your Power Manager settings and BIOS settings for power. If you could just to make sure before we start assuming its something else. I would also make sure your up to date on Version of Power manager and BIOS.

I would like to upgrade my X201i RAM to 2x 4GB. I already tried second pair of memory chips, but I always get the same result: memory is recognized in BIOS, memtest86 fails after few seconds and reboots and booting OS also fails. I tried unsuccessfully following chips:Kingston SO-DIMM 8GB KIT DDR3 1333MHz CL9 (2x 4 GB)2x Crucial SO-DIMM 4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL11Quicker Crucial chip should theoretically slow down to the required speed, but it apparently did not so. Hello ! Today I bought a new X201i from a webshop. It was delivered with some Vista installation and with aWindows 7 32 CD as a "help your self kit" (Yes the price was good.) To be on the safe side, while optaining some "safe training", I removed the original HD and installed another hd for a test installation. I downloaded all the Windows 7 32 bit drivers (I hope) and then I did the installation. Everything seems to be working, as far as I can see. The only thing is that there is an error meg in theDevice manager that I don't understand. Under storage controllers it shows: ! AG79FBFS IDE Controller. When I go further in to this unit, I can see that it says that there is no memory adresses free for this unit (or something like that.) I have tried everything like to remove it and reboot. I tried to disable it and still everything seems to be working well.(When I do that it replaces the text string before IDE Controller with a new one.) Does anyone on this forum have en idea what this error message reaaly mean and eventuelly how to get rid of it ?  I have also installed a 3G modem, (That works well) but the error was there before the modem. Best reg Arne.

I got my X20i in 2010 and after a year I noticed some problems with the display. Initially, while viewing some clips, often the display will randomly go black, some flashes and a small bubble will pop out and say something like "Virtual Memory is low" or something similar, and the whole laptop will be operating really slowly and lag, and I will need to restart the laptop for it to function normally. That was the intiialy signs. Then recently, I noticed that while even watching some youtube clips, similar things will happen, flashes, black  outs, but this time, no bubble will pop out and the computer won't return to normal at all (even in the slow state). I think this occurs more frequently when the laptop is operating on the battery and not plugged in. Didn't encounter these problems when I first got the machine, any ideas to how to fix this?

Answer:Thinkpad X201i Display problem

How much hard drive space do you have left, and how much physical memory? Check your resources in task manager, maybe you have a program or process that has a memory leak, maybe some malware as well.

So I tried to make a video call via Skype, but the option didn't exist. I used it a few weeks ago, so I couldn't figure out what has happened. So I googled and found different things I could do, but nothing seems to apply. I have reinstalled the driver, but it doesn't help - my webcam still doesn't show up in the Device Manager (!). I've tried scanning for hardware changes, but the built-in webcam still doesn't show up. So what can I do? (And no, I am not interested in re-installing Windows, which seems to be the only solution Lenovo ever comes up with.) I have Win 7 x64 Home Premium SP1 and have all drivers updated to the latest ones available on the lenovo.com web site. Please help - any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Answer:Webcam on my x201i (3249cto) disappeared

So I found this post from a while back (almost a year), and they suggest the following:-Check BIOS if webcam has been disabled.-Run TVSU to ensure all drivers have been updated and installed.-Factory restore via R&R.-If all 3 above has been done and webcam is still not appearing in device manager then send it to the service center to get the hardware checked.I'm afraid I have the same problem as discussed in that thread: fn+F6 doesn't show my webcam and the little green light next to it never blinks or comes on. So I simply cannot get in touch with the web cam. There is no setting for the webcam in my bios (as far as I can tell - and I've been everywhere). And there are no unknown devices in Device Manager. I've run TVSU, but nothing shows up there. And, as I said before, I am very good at keeping drivers etc updated. So what could be wrong? Is it possible that a faulty driver (or even an incompatible driver) takes over the web cam so that it shows up as something else in Device Manager? I don't think I have a HW problem, so there must be a SW fix somehow. And wiping out the whole hard drive doesn't seem like a "solution."

I got a X201i last summer. I immediately took out the hard drive into an external case as backup storage and put in a SSD to run Arch Linux. It was a steep learning curve but after not too long had everything working on it except the volume buttons (although suspend and hibernate only worked with certain kernel versions making updating the system a pain). It served me well for most of the year without any major issues. The first test of the Thinkpad quality came when I set it on the edge of a cot (fan just over the edge) and it fell about a little less than 2 feet onto a wooden floor when I got up. The hard drive cover came off and the screw went flying, yet to be found. Replaced it with one that doesn't look quite right but no serious problem there. However, within a day or two I noticed the Thinklight wasn't working. This is a problem because I often use the machine in the dark with the screen turned down all the way to conserve battery power, occasionally on excursions where I have no light available. This is a serious fail for the Lenovo brand for me if this light and durable "roadwarrior" machine is going to have things break from a 1.5 foot drop. Being busy with summer, I didn't look into the warranty immediately. I packed it with me on the 4th for a family gathering. A bottle of beer packed nearby leaked from the cap a little being shaken up by the ride. I don't know that I've ever seen the sleeve sold by Lenovo, but most of the simple neoprene sleeves I have seen are of relatively poor quality.  Many people are buying just one to three dollars of product/protection that has been marked up 7 to 10 times and possibly more. If you like spongy neoprene sleeves, be sure to shop around.  There are different grades of synthetic rubber, and neoprene can be laminated/layered with other materials (soft/smooth fabrics, waterproof fabrics, durable nylons).  Someone must make a high quality sleeve that fits Lenovo notebooks well.  If not Lenovo, than someone else.

My x201i is suddenly having a strange issue. The display turns itself off while opening the lid past about 30-35 degrees. Keeping the lid partially open display is ok - but continuing to open turns the display off. Anyone has any ideas? SV72

Answer:x201i dislay turns off when fully open

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are having display issues with your Lenovo ThinkPad X201i when opening the lid about 30-35 degrees.

Try reinstalling the display drivers and check. Check if display works fine on an external display.

It seems that the issue could be related to your LCD cable or the screen itself. Try reseating the LCD cable and check. Refer the hardware maintenance manual to understand how it has to be done. If you are not comfortable in doing the same, I would suggest you to contact Lenovo Technical Support for assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Best Regards,
Mithun.

Hi all, I own a Lenovo X201i laptop and recently I have quite an annoying issue which I hope I can get some help... Recently reset my laptop to factory default as 1) photoshop was crashing 2) thought it was a good time to do it too as laptop was slowing down. So I did that. Everything seems to be back in order except for internet. Wireless internet will be fine for a period of time then randomly disconnects and can't get it back going on unless I restart the laptop...never had this issue before resetting it to factory default. Does anyone know a possible solution for this? many thanks!!

Answer:X201i random disconnection from wireless internet

windows 7?  control panel, system, device manager, network adapters, right click your wireless adapter, properties, advanced,  make sure roaming aggressiveness is set to medium or low, transmit power is set to high, then click power management and unclick "allow windows to shut off this device to save power".  don't x the screens, click ok.

The touchpad and trackpoint work up until the point where I login. They work on the login page, but not after. I am running Windows 7. When I go to the mouse settings, they are both disabled, but it is grayed out and won't let me enable them. When I click fn+f8, nothing happens. This problem has been occurring for about a week now...the pen still works as a mouse however, and that is what I have been using

I'm hoping there is a solution to this, because it's driving me mad now. I use the middle button of my trackpad regularly to open/close new tabs in firefox/chrome and every time it exhibits the following annoying behaviours: If i click and then immediately try and use the trackpad it does nothing, no matter how long I wait - I have to remove my finger from the trackpad, wait a split second and then try again. I can remedy this, by clicking and then waiting over a second (!!!!) before trying to use the trackpad again. Driving me mad. The Lenovo System Update says I am fully up to date on the drivers front. Is there any remedy to this? (Or does anyone else notice the same behaviour?)

hello mate, If you do a right click on the bluetooth icon on the taskbar and go to open settings you've got a tab called share. check if the box allow remote devices to browse, send, and receive pictures, music, and other files is ticked. You can also try to connect from your phone to your computer I know for my nokia 3720c is the easiest way because sometimes my computer don't want to connect to the phone but the other way works all the time. What kind of phone do you want to connect ?

I upgraded my Thinkpad X201i CTO, preloaded with Windows 7 Pro, to Windows 8 Pro in late October after having upgraded the BIOS, followed the instructions for upgrading, and uninstalling whatever programs aren't compatible with Windows 8. As noted in the links, the computer is explicitly stated as compatible with upgrading to Windows 8 and the upgrade process itself was smooth. After the upgrade, however, I have only at best 2 hours of battery time (4.5 under Windows 7) and the computer gets quite hot (the fan is forever buzzing). I've sought help in resolving this issue on this forum (posted a long time ago, but with no responses) as well as Microsoft Answers (most recently here). I have tried updating drivers and even reinstalling Windows 8, but to no avail. The issues remain. The only thing I have been able to figure out is that this may be a hardware management issue, and therefore that Lenovo has failed to supply an update that fixes this. Searching forums and support sites, the issue appears to be fairly common (so it makes no sense why Lenovo wouldn't address this problem). I have contacted Lenovo support, but they have so far been very unhelpful; they have only referred me to this forum, and, as noted above, on this forum there has been zero replies to my bringing up the issue. So it seems I'm just running around in circles without getting closer to solving the problem. It has now been 8 months since Windows 8 was released and next week Windows 8.1 will... Read more

Answer:X201i battery drain, heating issue after upgrade

In the previous thread, posted 11/3 2012 (yes, early November!), bellavez83 responded saying s/he and "a lot of people" were having the same issue. What I find in other forums seems to suggest the same thing: MANY are having this issue, but there's no solution. bellavez83 hoped that Lenovo would notice if "enough of us make enough noise." I take it there is still not enough noise, since Lenovo doesn't seem to even want to respond to this issue. Quite sad, frankly. Lenovo's the biggest computer manufacturer nowadays, but they don't care about their customers? Doesn't make much sense. I'm getting to the point where I'm willing to try anything. Please, if you have any idea what I can do (or how to get Lenovo to listen), do respond to this thread!

After working properly for a while, I can no longer use the embedded mobile broadband. I noticed that the task bar icon that I used, to switch between wifi and mobile broadband, had disappeared. Then I noticed that Access Connections no longer allowed me to select Mobile Broadband button from the menu. I used the Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox - Diagnostics - Connectivity test to check the Qualcomm Gobi HSUSB 2000 9205. The result was that 'no mobile broadband connection was detected. So I've had this problem ever since I first turned on the computer coming straight out of the box from Lenovo. Everything else works fine, but every time I go from battery to AC (or vice versa) the screen immediately changes brightness according to my settings and then turns completely off for 0.5-1 second before it is on again and everything is back to normal. This happens EVERY time, so it is a permanent, 100% recreatable (and reoccuring) problem.

I've googled for a solution, but all I've found is about updating drivers and uninstalling software - all of which are not applicable on this machine. All drivers are up to date and I have none of the problematic softwares installed. Anybody knows what might be wrong or, more importantly, how to fix this?

First I thought it was an issue with having a LED screen (I have experience of only LCD screens), but this doesn't make sense to me. I would really appreciate any responses and suggestions to this annoying problem.

FYI, I'm on a X201i (3249 CTO) with Win 7 home premium 64-bit.

Super thanks!

I am having problems with my TP X201i CTO (freezes, very poor battery time) and have been trying to figure what is wrong. Have reinstalled the OS several times, but makes no difference. I now noticed that I have Intel Management Engine version 6.2.50.1050 installed. Interestingly, this version does not seem to exist when I search for my machine (x201i, 3249, with Windows 8.1 Pro) on the drivers and downloads page at Lenovo.com. The latest version appears to be 6.2.50.1062, and the previous version was 6.2.20.1040 - and my version is in-between (!): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS012852 The obvious question is: should I upgrade to .1062? I guess Win8 and Win8.1 are sufficiently similar to mostly use the same drivers (the page only notes Win8, not Win8.1). Interestingly, I've used the "Update Driver..." utility in the Device Manager, but it claims I already have the latest version (?). Please help.

Hi.I have an issue on several w510's with bluescreen caused by the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 driver/card. I'm running W7 x64I have read the other post here about this, but nothing outlined in those posts resolved the problem for me.I have opened a supportcase with Lenovo in Norway, but they couldn't help. Can someone here help me out? Anders

Answer:W510 Gobi bluescreen

I'm not sure exactly when the bluescreen occur in your case since you didn't include any details, but i can confirm that i have a bluescreen problem with the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 as well. I have all the latest drivers/BIOS from Lenovo and the latest version of access connections. When i switch from a wireless profile to mobile broadband i get a bluescreen. Seems like it happen pretty late when the mobile broadband profile is applied so might be when AC try to turn off the wlan radio. For some reason it doesn't happen if i try right after a reboot. Also it seems like it neither happen if i disable the radio of the wlan adapter before i switch to the mobile broadband profile in AC. I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 on a W510 witht the Q820 CPU. So far i have not found a solution to this problem and i have not tried without AC to see if the problem go away. At the moment i just turn off the wlan radio before switching profiles and seems like that workaround fix the problem. This is not a solution, but a workaround until fixed. -gan

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... I am poised to purchase an X201 any minute now...but I need some info before I do...

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB "air card" (VZAccess) for my mobile/anytime/everywhere internet connection.  I was going to upgrade my device to the new LTE 4G card and extend my plan for another 2 years for wireless through Verizon.  However, I am just now learning about GOBI - I was NOT going to include that option in my new ThinkPad, but now I'm wondering if I should.  I would LOVE not having to mess with that card sticking out of the USB port all the time, so the GOBI option sounds appealing.

My question is this:  the only GOBI option is 2000 3G.  So what is actually the better option - and what are the advantages...Verizon 4G USB modem with 4G monthly service plan (now actually cheaper than previous 3G plan), or the integrated GOBI 3G.  If I am completely confused about the whole 3G/4G thing, will some please explain?  I am of the mind that 4G is better, that the plan is better, but the actual card is a nuisance...that GOBI would be more convenient, but then is an older, almost outdated technology... ??

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Hello mate, First you have to know what the cariers call 4G is not really 4G. LTE is really a pre 4G.The Gobi 2000 support HSDPA+ who is 3.5G. HSDPA+ is the most commun connection for the moment. LTE is faster but the network just start to be deployed means there is a lot of black spots. In theses blackspots you will connect in HSDPA+.I think you will have at least 2 years before the LTE network will be deployed.Normally the real 4G will be finalized soon. The race is beetween WIMAX 2 and LTE Advanced. Normally LTE Advanced should be compatible with LTE but really nobody knows. For my point of view, for the moment, it's a bit risky to change everything to gain a bit of speed. This thing remembers me the war beetween HDDVD and BluRay. And at the end people who bought HDDVD have now a useless thing you can't use anymore. For my usage the Gobi 2000 is perfect because is just a second connection when i'm away. The speed is far enough to browse the net and check the mail. Even for download is not too bad but anyway in Australia cost so much money for a plan with a couple of Gigs, I try to don't download too much.

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

So I got a SSD for my T410 and thought what the hell lets go for Windows 8. All is sweet apart from my Gobi 2000 mobile broadband. I found some beta Windows 8 drivers and after learning Access Connections is not supported on Windows 8, I downloaded and installed the Dependency Package. Now when I launch Lenovo Mobile Broadband Connect I get the message "Mobile Broadband device not found". In Windows 8 under Networks side bar, it just says "Mobile Broadband (Off)". Any ideas?

Answer:Windows 8 Gobi 2000

The "Mobile Broadband (Off)" was probably the give away... I downloaded Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 and hit Fn F5 and it's all looking good!
