I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: x230 trackpoint

TrackPoint drift has been happening as long as I can remember, at least back to the X31. Release the trackpoint, and it may drift towards the top left. If you let it drift, it stops after a few seconds and after that works properly. At least for me this happens infrequently enough so as not to be a big deal.

I never do these, but after extensive searching and trouble shooting without results, here I am.I have a Lenovo x230 laptop (2306cto model number) . The keyboard on it was having buttons stop working after extensive use, so I purchased a replacement keyboard for it (model CS12-84US). The keyboard is identical the previous one, including backlight functionality, and trackpoint. I swapped the keyboards, and all of the buttons started working again perfectly, except for the trackpoint mouse (little red button thing), the trackpoint mouse buttons, and also the backlight function for the keyboard (the Fn + Space only turns on the overhead light seated next to the webcam). I tried reseating it a few times, I checked all of the ribbons to ensure that there are no rips/tears, etc. I checked drivers again and again. The trackpoint section under the UltraNav Mouse settings is greyed out and inaccessible. I can't figure out what's wrong. This is a brand new keyboard. Hello, I have a Lenovo X230 and have a quick question, is it possible to disable the TrackPoint knob (the red knob) while keeping the buttons active? Disabling TrackPoint through the UltraNav driver results in having both the knob and the buttons disabled, the same thing goes for disabling it in the BIOS. Note that this model only has those two buttons build in while newer Lenovo models has two pairs of buttons (above and below the TrackPad). See: http://cdn.asia.cnet.com/story_media/62218216/1.jpg

Answer:X230 - Disable TrackPoint but not buttons?

you can in a way. Just select advanced feature only within the ultranav selection for the trackpoint. This way the trackpoint nib would only act as page scroller and won't move the pointer per se. Then you can switch the trackpoint sensitivity to firm touch. This is what i do for people whom can't use trackpoints.

Hi all, Since installing Windows 10 I am unable to change the sensitivity of the Trackpoint. I have to press insanely hard to get the cursor to move at a reasonable speed and it makes the machine rather useless for me. In Windows and 8.1 I had the options to change the sensitivity so the cursor would move on a light touch of the Trackpoint. Why has this function been removed? And is it coming back? X230 is officially supported for Windows 10 so you would say you at least get the options of changing the sensitivity. The latest drivers are installed using Lenovo System Update. At this point I'm seriously considering downgrading to 8.1 just to make the Trackpoint usable again. Thanks!

I have thinkpad x230 which was running the stable and well supported windows 7. I upgraded to windows 10 a couple of days ago and I updated the synaptics driver from 16.2.19.14 to the latest one lenovo released  19.0.12. 61 but the trackpont scrolling is bad and not smooth. In addition, I can't find any option to change the sensitivity of the trackpoint. I went back to the old driver I used in win 7  (16.2.19.14) and smooth scrolling is back but trackpoint scrolling isn't working in start menu, edge browser or any metro app. I appreciate your help!!

Is it just me, or do the X230's trackpoint buttons seem really low? They don't seem to have a bump in the front that makes them easy to press. This in addition to how slippery and low the point is compared to the one on my X201 makes pointing and clicking a miserable experience.

Basically, my problem is in the title. It feels fine when I just idle a finger on it, but if I tilt it diagonally, I start to feel some heat after a few minutes of use. Its like I'm touching a a hot surface of a cheap laptop under load. I thought it might have been because the CPU was under load, but this happened to me while browsing the internet and writting a paper in wordpad. Is this normal?

Answer:x230 TrackPoint (chiclet) feels extremely hot

how and why do you tilt a trackpoint diagonally for a few minutes?

Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. I´ve tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? Hello, Prior to getting my X230, I had an X201, and the X201's trackpoint was very maneuverable: I was very precise with it and could control it how I wanted to. My X230 does not work this way: The trackpoint doesn't travel how I want it to. It requires more force to move it small distances. In Control Panel: Mouse, I have the pointer speed set to max and the trackpoint settings set to Light Touch. Enhanced Pointer Precision is on (I want it on).  There is definitely something wrong with my machine: I've tried out other X230's, and their trackpoints function the same as my X201's: easy to maneuver. My drivers are all updated.

Answer:X230: Unsatisfactory trackpoint sensitivity/movability

I see no reason not to have Lenovo send u a new keyboard if u are still on warrantee. Keyboards are customer replaceable units and are easy to replace. I would give Lenovo support a call.

I prefer to use my trackpoint stick rather than the touchpad because I can leave my hands in typing position.  Trouble is my X230 stick feels much harder to move than my other current and former  Thinkpads.  Even using the stick for just a couple minutes makes my finger sore.  I have adjusted the Wndows control panel -> mouse ultranav -> trackpoint -> settings -> trakcpoint stick -> sensitivity to light touch.  But I use other thinkpads (T430, x120e) stick with sensitivity set in the middle and they are much easier to start movement with.  All Lenovo drivers are current. Seems that the X230 stick is different and requires much more pressure to get going compared to other models. Any suggestions or other adjustments I could try? Thanks.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

Question: Trackpoint cap

I'm not sure if this is the place I'm supposed to post this. I absolutely hate the trackpoint when I type.  I type quite fast and I hit the trackpoint every once in a while -- but this is enough to really get on my nerves.  It's absolutely distracting.  Imagine typing out your thoughts then all of a sudden you hit the thing, get distracted, then irritated, and your thoughts gone.  ThinkPads are supposed to help you think.  The trackpoint unfortunately doesnt...  Are there a replacement tips that's depressed enough (and maybe colored black...) so that I dont hit it accidentally when I type?  Removing the tip works fine -- but it looks so ugly without it (makes it look like i'm using a broken equipment). Oh and I dont mind if the replacement cap will render the trackpoint unusable.  I just need it low enough so I dont accidentally hit it.

these are the three different types of trackpoint caps. You might get lucky with the first type and there is no black trackpoint caps produced by Lenovo.

You can disable the trackpoint by pressing Fn + F8 in windows and then select trackpad only. You can also disable trackpoint from BIOS menu.

Question: Trackpoint gone...

I did the usual "Windows update" this morning. After the installation had completed I noticed that my Trackpoint has "disappeared"! There is no reaction whatsoever when pressing the red dot and I can't control the mouse with it any more. I then checked in the control panel (no trace) and then had to learn, that it doesn't even exist in the device manager, either. I then rebooted, no change. I then even powered off and reboot from power off again, still no trackpoint! And after I downloaded the trackpoint driver from the Lenovo drivers download site and wanted to (re-)install the driver, I got an error message "this driver can not be installed on non-trackpoint systems". ?!? What? What the %@[email protected]#*%?  Where has my trackpoint gone??? How come, that it has completely disappeared? How do I get this thing working again? Edited: I later noticed, that a part of that Windows Update apparently was a new "Wacom Two Finger Touch" driver. Might that have to do with my disappeared Trackpoint? Michael PS.: Boy - is this annoying to have to work without Trackpoint!

Answer:Trackpoint gone...

I just had to learn that there is a Fn-key (F8) that allows to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad. I must have accidentally operated that button without noticing (in fact, I hadn't even known before that there IS such an option...).Its setting was on "Touchpad only". After re-enabling the trackpoint there everything came back to normal. Wheew. What a relieve! :-) And it (most probably) had nothing to do with the Windows Update - just an unlucky conincidence! Michael

Question: Choppy Trackpoint

Hello, Got x120e the other day and I have one question: This is my first Thinkpad (and first time witha trackpoint) - the trackpoint moves kind of choppy. It's not smooth movements like with the trackpad, as if it's missing frames or something. It's still perfectly useable but seems odd. Is this normal?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

No, it's not normal.  Mine moves as smooth as the touchpad (if not smoother) and responds to how much I move the stick.  Have you looked into the UltraNav Properties field of the trackpoint?  I'll leave this up to the experts to help you here.  This is my first Lenovo product too. But I'll like to comment that I wish the trackpoint would be at positions where your fingers will be while holding the machine.  The middle position works fine for a bigger laptop, but this is an ultraportable. Remember the IBM PalmTopPC110?  http://www.komotch2.com/tps/pt110.htm And the Toshiba Libretto:  http://www.silverace.com/libretto/libretto100j.jpg Some models' trackpoints are even located at behind the screen (i.e. on the lid).PalmTopPC110

For the past week or two it seems that the mouse clicks on its own on my T420. This is in TrackPoint only mode (TouchPad disabled) with press to select disabled. This issue is reproducible as it generally happens right after a normal click or unclick. For example, if I highlight text in a word processor by clicking and dragging my cursor over the text when I release the button the system registers a phantom click within the next second or so. I also have noticed these phantom clicks after middle clickling. Does this sound like a possible driver issue or should I go ahead and call to have a tech come out and replace parts?

Answer:TrackPoint clicks on its own

@nibs,Try uninstalling UltraNav, reboot the laptop then install it back and see if it helps. If problem persist then I guess its time to contact the techs.

Hi Oshri,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with track point not working in your Lenovo T410 laptop
The Fn-key (F8) allows the to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad.

If the trackpoint is no longer working, this may be a good option to check before investigating device manager, updating / reinstalling trackpoint drivers or rebooting as discussed above.

Pressing Fn-F8 brings up the ultranav menu and allows the user to cycle through different trackpoint and touchpad configuration options.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

After just a few months of usage, my W510's TrackPoint cap came loose. I ordered a three-part TrackPoint cap collection on eBay. Alas, the caps don't fit.

No surprise if you look at this photo of a non-W-series keyboard with the cap removed. The TrackPoint post in my W-series ThinkPad is yellow rather than black and significantly smaller:

Link to picture

Also, the W-series is prominently absent from the list of supported models in Lenovo's specs of the replacement caps.

Anyone know if replacement caps for the W-series are available?

Also, how would I attach the cap? Just pushing it back didn't really do it for my original cap, it kept coming loose.

Question: Trackpoint Issues

Hi, Just recently my trackpoint in my T61 stopped responding after having a little water in my keyboard near the left function and shift keys.  Attempting to fix the problem, I went to the mouse settings to make sure it was enabled, however the Trackpoint section was grayed out and the enabled box was unchecked. I also checked the BIOS settings and both the Trackpoint and touch pad are set to automatic. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Ultranav driver and utility. Is there anything else I should do to fix the problem? The amount of water that got into the keyboard did not look like it was much and evaporated pretty quickly, so I am not sure if this is just a coincidence or it is related to the water being in the keyboard.  I also tried tried the Trackpoint with a Ubuntu Live CD, but it did not work in Ubuntu either. Thanks

At the top next to 'Pointing Options', click 'Advanced'
In the 'General' tab, you will see 'TrackPoint pointing speed', adjust the slider,

Depending on which Ultranav version you have installed the steps may be slightly different, but they should be roughly the same.

OK, T60 Notebook and suddenly the TrackPoint and TouchPad stopped working.  I checked under the ThinkVantage tools and they are enabled.  I checked in the BIOS and the device(s) are enabled there as well.  I've had a TouchPad go bad before but the TrackPoint still worked.  Kinda strange both would go down at the same time.  So, in short: 1.  Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?2.  Does anyone have the part number for a replacement TouchPad (I've searched the site and could find dang near everything else, but the TouchPad) TIA!

Answer:TouchPad and TrackPoint

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.

Question: Choppy Trackpoint

I know I just posted a thread, but I figured that issue is global enough to warranty its own. But this one seems to be specific to me.I'm a new Thinkpad (and trackpoint) user, and the trackpoint is very choppy for me. It seems to skip frames. For example, making a circular motion with the trackpad results in a continuous, smooth motion. But not so with the trackpoint. It seems to be micro-jumping (or skipping frames as I prefer to call it). This is easily noticeable when holding down the middle trackpoint button and attempting to scroll a page. The page does not scroll smoothly at all (has nothing to do with smooth scrolling, that's something else and not what I'm talking about). Now this isn't just with this X220. Before the X220 I briefly owned a x120e that had this EXACT same problem. I asked about it and people told me that is not normal. So I returned it and got this X220, but it's the same problem. The weird thing is that while this choppiness is present in Windows, it was just fine during the Windows install process. I've tried: disabling the trackpad, reducing/increasing trapoint sensetivity, updating drivers, removing drivers and reinstalling, bumping the priority of the driver to high. None helped. What are the chances I'd receive two machines with the same problem?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

Disabling the trackpad from the BIOS fixed the issue it seems (its definitely much smoother). Diasbling it within Windows did not help. If I recall correctly disabling the trackpad in the x120e from the BIOS was not an option. Too bad. But odd that others do not have this problem. Oh and my palm was not resting on the trackpad

I T440s which I updated to Windows 10.  I updated the Lenovo drivers after updating and I have the latest Trackpaad/trackpoint drivers.  I want to use the track point but not the touchpad.  When I go into settings and choose either "Classic Trackpoint" or "Trackpoint Only", the buttons on the trackpad do not work.  Help, Please.

It is my first thinkpad and was wondering what older users would say for it...

Answer:Is trackpoint durable ?

Hi beickus,It is in my standpoint but you don't have to push it hard to test it's limits, play it gently and use soft hands to use it. A simple touch works best, you don't really have to rest your finger on it. Hope it helps.

I've been using Lenovo laptops for the last 10 years because of my preference for the trackpoint.  However, I recently purchased a P40 yoga and the trackpoint middle button scrolling is horrendous.  It takes 5 or 6 seconds before it starts scrolling.  Also, when you press the middle button, the cursor does not change to the scroll cursor.  Please help me fix this as I am very unhappy that my brand new computer does not work as well as my other (3 really old) Lenovo laptops.

Hi All,Could someone help me to identify if my trackpoint on the T420S is broken? The images are here,http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/7643/fig1k.jpg http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/199/fig2h.jpg  In the first image, the red trackpoint can easily come out of the fixture on the keyboard. If I take out the red cap, there is a black thing as shown in second image located on key "G."  I try to jam it into the fixture, but did not work out.Should this black thing need to always stay in the fixture? Is it just be glued to the fixture?Should I ask Lenovo for a service? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Is my trackpoint broken?

The images don't work, however, I think I understand.  The Trackpoint is a red rubber cap that just fits on a black plastic post between the G, H, and B keys.  It lifts right off of the black plastic post.  The post is a permanent part of the keyboard.  The "eraser" head is user replaceable when necessary. The underside of the Trackpoint "eraser" is hollowed out to fit over the black post.  It is snug, but does not require "jamming."  When in place, does it work?

Does anyone else have this problem?  Where the cursor keeps drifting after you let go when you are using the trackpoint? It doesn't do it all the time for me, but when it does, it kinda gets on my nerves.  Kinda takes the extra percision advantages away. Thanks!

Answer:Trackpoint Drifting after let go

yeah i have that problem, and i have a friend with the same problem. its just because the rubber doesnt stay seated right on the piece is sitting on, if you push on it too hard. thats my guess, but i could be wrong. i notice if i dont push on the rubber part very hard it keeps that from happening. for some reason i always push straight down on the rubber piece and thats when it does it the most.

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Now that the 5th gen Thinkpad is here, the decline of the trackpoint becomes ever clearer.  Frankly, most of us would not be buying Thinkpads if they didn't have the trackpoint.  That's the X1's main advantage.  But Lenovo keeps making it worse.  First, the trackpoint caps that will fit the gen 4 and 5 come in only one, unpopular, variant and you can't get the soft rim version.  But more importantly, Lenovo keeps on degrading the software control of the trackpoint.  It used to be that you could adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint, making it more or less stiff.  Even the softest setting was inadequate but it was something.  In the 5gen there is no option to change the stiffness or responsiveness of the trackpoint's movements at all.  Lenovo: hear your customers!! Please make the trackpoint MORE not less adjustable.

I have a T60 laptop (purchased Jun 2006) which works great except for the trackpoint.  For the last few months, the trackpoint has not been working.  The touchpad works. Here are the steps I took to troubleshoot - 1.  Updated Ultra NAV driver and Utility software (the latest from lenovo website).  Actually un-installed old version and      re-installed new version2.  Updated the BIOS to the newer version and ensured that Trackpoint/NAV is set to enabled in BIOS3.  Replaced the keyboard (assumed it was a hardware problem).  During replacement, I made sure it was properly      seated to rule out a loose connection.4.  The motherboard was replaced last year (due to a another problem) so I assume it may not be the source of problem I have searched this and other websites but am out of luck.  Appreciate if any one can provide more leads/ideas to fix this.  I am not sure if this is software related. Thanks

Is there any way to use the trackpoint on Lenovo computers as a joystick?  I.e. a device that would be useful for a flight simulator?  Essentially, it wouldn't be moving the mouse along a line based on the direction you're pushing it in with a speed based on your finger pressure,  but rather moving the mouse to a stationary position on the screen based on the direction and pressure you're pushing on it with.

Answer:Using the trackpoint as a joystick?

Download the latest version of ppjoy - it comes with a mouse to joystick driver that works well with trackpoint

Answer:trackpoint loose

When you say the TrackPoint is loose, are you refering to the red cap that covers it?  If so, it's probably just worn out and needs to be replaced.  You can order replacements from Lenovo.  The part number is 73P2698, and here in the US, they're $9.99.  Sometimes they're also available on eBay.

I'm using a Lenovo T61-8890 A24. It's a pretty old model but has been upgraded to be able to support Win 7 Ultimate 32bit.

I currently am facing a similar issue. In the BIOS, both my trackpoint and touchpad is detected and set to Automatic.
If I remove the entire palm rest and touchpad panel, I'm able to get the trackpoint to work, however once the touchpad is connected, the trackpoint just stops working.

I tried to enable it on the Ultranav program but it just doesn't work.

I tried the mouse properties and the trackpoint function is greyed out as shown below.

Link to image 1

When I went into the device manager, the trackpoint is not detected.

Link to image 2

I tried installing all versions of Ultranav, tried BIOS updates, tried cleaning the connectors, and still can't get the trackpoint to work together with the touchpad.

Any advice to this issue is greatly appreciated.

Answer:T61 - can't enable TrackPoint

Hi Dyna, Welcome to the forum. When you say Trackpoint doesn't work, do you mean:1. That trackpoint itself is not workingor 2. The left click, right click and scroll buttons associated with the trackpoint doesn't work. ========Also, you did not mention whether your trackpad works or not. Finally, what happens when you disable the trackpad in the BIOS menu? Does that affect your trackpoint and associated buttons' behaviours?

Basically I have no control of the track point anymore. I tried to plug in a notebook mouse with trackpoint turned on, I still can't move my mouse. I have to disable the trackpoint. I even tried to replace the red cap but still no use. Does anyone have this problem and know how to fix this? Thanks.

We have an older IBM thinkpad 600x, that my husband uses to play simple off line games and read a few emails. The past few days when booting we are getting the error #08611.
From what I have been able to find I believe that this has something to do with the trackpoint.
We use a wireless mouse with this so do not need the track point. Can someone please tell me how to disable the trackpoint?
Thanks!!!

Question: Trackpoint problem

First of all, sorry if this questions been asked and answered. I've been searching off an on for several weeks for any online help to a trackpoint annoyance I've been having with no luck. I'm on a T61p running XP. (I upgraded the stock Vista, following an online guide). I have the Ultranav utility installed (I can see and change the options for the trackpoint/touchpad in the mouse control panel). Both the trackpoint and touchpad work. However, every once in a while the trackpoint just becomes totally unresponsive and the mouse pointer refuses to respond or move. For like 3-4 seconds. What's odd is that when this happens, the touchpad still works. (I'm trying to move or scroll with the trackpoint / topmost scroll button+trackpoint with now response, but use other finger to test touchpad and that responds.) It's really odd and really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice? Thanks!

The trackpoint on this e540 keeps moving after I let it go. The issue arrises when I move the cursor downwards - it then moves upwards on its own, sometimes for several seconds. This happens quite often, and when it happens it obviously makes clicking things hard. I guess it doesn't matter since I'm returning it anyway because of all the issues.

I am a fanatical user of the trackpoint on my current Lenovo. I also want to purchase an Ideapad. I am hesitating because it doesn't have a trackpoint. Does anyone have any ideas? Does Lenovo offer an option to add the Trackpoint or do they have another system which is simmilar to the Ideapad Y series. I am attracted to the Y series because of the Dolby sound system, the inbuilt camera, the wide 17" screen and the standard Bluray.

Hello lenovo community, I bought an x220t and it shipped yesterday. Everything is fine, except  the Trackpoint. It seems like the "B"-button is blocking it, because it moves slowly downwards. If I press the B-button and use the Trackpoint it works well, like on my X121e. The cursor also accelerates if I move the mouse down with the Trackpoint and then press the button. What can I do?

Answer:x220t Trackpoint problem

Have you tried running Lenovo System Update to see if new drivers are available? TrackPoint has self-calibration which ignores any consistent small trackpoint displacement. So even if the B button interferes, I would think at some point the interference would be calibrated out.

Hello, I've bought new ThinkPad t540p recently. I've never used Trackpoint before and found it is very useful. But one thing breaks my happiness about Trackpoint. It's terrible clicking on touchpad. As I know it's common problem. But when I deleted Ultranav drivers and my Windows started using default drivers, I've realized that Trackpoint cursor pointing + Touchpad tap-to-click performance are best of breed. Hi, not sure where to do this (or if maybe the issues are actually caused by some hardware issue), but I'd like to request an update to the trackpoint speed in the next Ultranav driver release.   I currently have my trackpoint speed cranked all the way up, along with my overall mouse speed, and have turned off pointer precision enhancement (which also slows mouse speed); but still have to work to move the cursor around the screen using the trackpoint.  This also makes it extemely difficult to control the cursor when I connect an external mouse (e.g., when I'm using the laptop at my office workstation). I'd say the speed is only getting up to about 3/4ths of the speed of my X201's trackpoint (if that).  This is not only inconvenient, but also frequently causes the tackpoint to lose its inertia settings so that it starts to drift uncontrollably up (or down) the screen (usually caused by slowly scrolling through a document).  This happens daily.   With this issue and the loss of the press-to-select feature, the trackpoint on the new 240 has been very, very disappointing.  It's a shame that such a useful feature has been so handicapped by the changes in the new machine.  Please bring back the old trackpoint (or fix these issues with software). - Chris

Hi  I just got my new T440 today. After the automatic installation of win 7 the trackpoint did not work. Then i looked in the  control panal -> mouse -> thinkPad and saw that both the trackpoint touchpad were enabled. In order to fix the problem I downloaded the latest ultranav driver -> uninstalled the old version -> rebooted -> installed the new version - > rebooted, but it still does not work. As far as I can see all the functionality (the different gesture commands) of the touchpad is working so I guess the ultranav driver is correctly installed.  Does any one have and idea what could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

I just got my new ThinkPad T440s, and I'm having some difficulties getting the Trackpoint to work properly. Whenever I power up the system, the Trackpoint is responsive for a minute or so and then completely stops working, while the touchpad works just fine. I have tried re-installing/ updating the Ultranav driver, but no luck. I have also tried a complete factory restore, and the problem remains.  I noticed that when I don't have the Ultranav driver installed, the trackpoint works a little while longer but then gets a bit crazy. By that I mean moving the cursor using either touchpad or trackpoint somehow ends up opening shortcuts, moving icons or the taskbar, etc. It's hard to explain, but it's like the cursor moves all over the screen rapidly "left-clicking" and "right-clicking" all over the place.  It's strange that when I'm going through the Windows installation prompts, the trackpoint seemed to work just fine. This and the fact that it works for a minute upon start-up make me think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try? I haven't tried doing anything in the BIOS, if there's something that could be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:T440s Trackpoint problems

Hi zorero, You can check in the bios if the trackpoint is enabled but if it works sometimes it might be anyway. you should try to remove the keyboard, unplug the trackpad and replug it.It can be just just a connection problem where the plug is not properly attached to the motherboard. There is the link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual where you can find how to remove the keyboard: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t440s_hmm_en_sp40a25360_01.pdf Hope that helps, Vince.

Answer:Which new notebook models have trackpoint?

I am not sure any HP laptops still have a trackpoint. All Lenovo Thinkpads still have them. There is virtually no consumer demand for trackpoints, a huge majority prefers the touchpad. I still use the trackpoint on my Thinkpad, but also use the touchpad.

Hi, I recently purchased a new Thinkpad and I new about the new Trackpad that has removed the physical buttons, but I thought that I could get used to it. But, I never will, not the way I have been using a Thinkpad for the last 15 years. When using the computer for work I never use the touchpad only the trackpoint with the physical buttons, I use all 3 of the buttons. These are my two first problems with the new trackpad. 1. The force that is needed to left or right click with the new "the whole trackpad is a button" is really annoying and i really really hate it.2. The sound of the button when pressing the whole trackpad is really annoying, you can almost type silently on the keybord, but when pressing the trackpad button it makes a very annoying sound. This is the third and most annoying problem, a real show stopper for me. 3. When I do real work on my computer I use both my thumbs for left vs right click. The problem with the new trackpad is that there is no physical buttons AND they area for the buttons are not clickable, the whole trackpad is a button meaning that it senses which thumb was last registered resting in that area. On my old Thinkpad I usually rested both my thumbs on the physical buttons and this is where the real problem begins. If i rest my left thumb on the area for the left "button" first and after this rest my right thumb in the area for the right "button" and then left click, there will be a right click instead, ... I have tried disabling touchpad in BIOS and end up not having the trackpoint also not work.In the thinkvantage productivity center it says that ultranav is not installed and I downloaded the ultranav update from lenovo website and installed it. Still the trackpoint does not work.I love the trackpoint and I hope some one can help me figure out what is happening.thanks

I suddenly find that both the trackpoint and touchpad are not functioning. they are set to Automatic in the BIOS but the UltraNav shows them grayed out.History:I had recently installed the system update "systemupdate314-2008-5-15.exe" when I had this problem (the key board also had stopped responding). The problem persisted but got rectified after a few restarts. But it now recurs again (though the keyboard is fine now). I also had recently removed the palmrest and tightened the touchpad connection when it had stopped working. It was fine till recently. Can you please suggest a remedy..

Hi, I encounter the following issues with my Thinkpad T430s:- sometimes the mouse pointer starts moving on its on, always towards the same direction and always at the same speed. Rebooting temporarily resolves the issue until it occurs again. Reducing the sensitivity in the driver software does not have any impact. Pressing the trackpoint and letting go does nothing to stop it. - the left mouse button acts like a weird combination of a left click + some function that brings up context menus, if available (e.g. on desktop). This happens using the trackpoint, touchpad and sometimes even when using an external mouse. - Right mouse button does not function at all. No matter what function is assigned to it in the driver software, it does not work. External mouse works. All this ONLY happens if the trackpoint is ENABLED in BIOS. If I disabled the trackpoint in the BIOS, touchpad and all mouse buttons work fine. I tried Windows 10 and Windows 7. The problems occur under both operating systems using different driver software. Therefore, I do believe this to be a hardware issue. Anyone has experienced this issues and knows a good way to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Answer:T430s trackpoint issue

I cannot be sure without seeing it, but my guess is that you need a keyboard

Recently I've been having an issue with both my trackpoint and touchpad. sometimes one works and other times the other works. from time to time they both work. it seems to switch when i pull up a new website or open a program. if one works before i open the program then the other will work after i open it. the buttons are the same way as well.. if one set works then the other doesn't but they don't correspond to which pointing device is working.. its kind of random.

Answer:Trackpoint & Touchpad problem

I have just starting having the same problems as well.  It's driving me nuts.  I thought my laptop was crapping out.  Anyone have any ideas what's going on?  I also had the trackpoint touchpad go south on a HP N6400, though in all cases, the Synaptic driver thinks everything is hunkydorey.  I've updated drivers, tried everything.   Whole reason I have a Lenovo is for the trackpoint and if it's going to stop working, then will start looking at a new laptop.

Hi there,So far I've been using a good old T61/T60 blend. Today I received a brand new T570 students' edition (512GB SSD, 8GB Ram, nVidia graphics, UHD display).Alas, the trackpoint has a mind of his own. Vertical movements are fast and may also be precise, I can't tell for sure. However all horizontal movements are noticeably slower. Then, the pointer would move without the stick being touched, for several seconds. The trackpad is useless while the pointer is moving. Precise and fast movements as known from my old thinkpad are practically impossible. What did I try so far trying to solve the problem?- updated bios and driver via thinkvantage system update- on top of that I also tried lenovo bridge via browser, but did not find any newer driver versions- I (de)activated enhanced mouse pointer acceleration, with no effect- I also removed and reinstalled the red dot from the stick - no effect- only deactivating the trackpoint helps, it even increases the precision of the touchpad, which seems to be constantly disturbed by the trackpointWhat can I do? Send the laptop back to lenovo? To me it seems someone was incapable of programming a solid driver for the trackpoint, and I struggle to understand this because my 10 years older thinkpad does not have problems of this kind. Thank you!

Hi,   I bought an X61 (type: 7673-BE9) last month. Now I have met a trackpoint issue. It will not work at any time: no response to left and right buttons, no response to the red stick. If I reboot the system, it maybe works or doesn't. In the later case,  I noticed that there was a yellow exclamation mark before trackpoint in the hardware management.   I have tried to reinstall the trackpoint driver(4.62), but it was helpless. Here's my system information:    OS:    Windows XP sp2    BIOS: 2.07    Trackpoint Driver Version: 4.62   Would anyone please help me? Thanks a lot.                                Best Regards                                  Thiross

Hello,my Thinkpad 600 never failed me(except for having to replace the CMOS battery every 5 years, which seems to be normal for this model)but now the Track Point is "stuck" somehow. I touch it once and then the mouse pointer arrow keeps runningto the left side of the screen. The external USB Mouse works fine, but only when the Track Point is deactivated in Thinkpad configuration. Before, I sometimes had the problem that the arrow kept moving after I had stopped touching the TrackPoint, but it always "calmed down" after a second or so.Does anybody has an idea how to fix this ? Or is it just broken?Thank youNiaUpdate:On the Lenovo troubleshooting pages I found the following explanation"The TrackPoint does automatic compensations to adjust the pointer sensor. During this process, the pointer moves on the screen automatically for a short time. This self-acting pointer movement can occur when a slight, steady pressure is applied to the TrackPoint pointer while the computer is powered on or while the system is running, or when readjustment is required because the temperature has exceeded its normal temperature range. This symptom does not indicate a hardware problem. No service actions are necessary if the pointer movement stops in a short period of time."Well, I am a little confused by this. So the TrackPoint does some kind of self-calibration? And what do I do if themovement doesn't stop? Maybe should I install a new TrackPoint driver version? Please, can somebody help me a little...... Read more

Answer:thinkpad 600, trackpoint malfunctioning

Welcome to the forum! Yes, TrackPoint is supposed to self-calibrate and move occasionally, but is also supposed to stop doing that after a few seconds. Quite a few people have reported this issue with 600 series in the past, and there is no known cure (apart from using an external mouse) that I'm aware of. It' s supposedly a glitch that develops on the main board. Try updating your BIOS and drivers from the "support and downloads" section of Lenovo's website. Good luck.

Solved.  Found usable replies when I did a search using the correct spelling of "trackpoint" in this forum.  By pressing the ThinkVantage button and then checking input devices, I found the trackpoint to be disabled. Need to change it in the BIOS at startup.

I am having some trouble with the trackpoint of my E560, and would like to know if it is possible to disable the trackpoint without disabling the trackpoint buttons (above the trackpad).Whenever I have the trackpoint enabled the cursor will start drifting and the trackpad will respond badly to input. However, when I disable the trackpoint the trackpoint buttons are also disabled, which I use frequently.Tech support sent me a new keyboard, but this didn't fix the issue and I cannot afford to lose my laptop for a week for repair at the moment. Support told me there is a option to disable the trackpoit in the BIOS, which does not seem to be there even though I updated the BIOS. Is there a way to disable the trackpoint without disabling the buttons? Or a way to repair without losig my laptop for a prolonged time? This is a DOA issue, and not the only issue i've been having with this laptop. Really expected better quality from a Thinkpad especially on the driver level.Been having trouble with the mouse and video driver since day one. Even on a clean install.

Hi all, I have an E540 and Windows 8 (I also have Linux and the problem doesn't happen there, its just in Windows 8). I can use tap to click when I navigate with the trackpad. However, as soon as I start using the trackpoint, I can no longer tap to click. When I go back to using the trackpad, tap to click starts working again. I've tried fiddling with the settings in control panel, but haven't found anything to change it yet (tap to click is checked there)

Answer:Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

Hi Gibba,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Tack pad on ThinkPad E540.

Please go to control panel -- mouse ? UltraNav ? Track Pad setting and Check the box Enable press to select option.
If you are unable to find UltraNav option, the you have to install touchpad drivers for that.

Click here to check the track pad setting.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling problem

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

My E545 came with a rounded Trackpoint head. I want a concave one. I cannot find one or figure out how to order one. Do they exist? Where can I order it? Thanks.

Answer:Concave Trackpoint for E545

Good day.

Have a look at: http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/pd013643
I presume you're looking for the soft-rim type? When I searched the accessories page, I only came up with the soft-dome type, so you might want to call or chat with Sales. The number and link are at the top of the linked Sales page.

I've also seen 3rd-party sources, but I can't vouch for the quality or authenticity.

Hope this helps.
Regards.

Hi!First: this is no problem-request but a solution for everybody with the same problem. I had the problem, that TrackPoint scrolling did not work in some programs. There are some posts available about correcting this issue, but there seems to be a change in the driver, so there needs to be done some changes. I mainly will refer to this post from Elad Karako, because it has a list of programs, where scrolling does not work. This post, the same as others, recommends to edit the file TP4table.dat in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP directory. I just updated my T540p with a 3-button touchpad and had the problem, that in some applications the TrackPoint scrolling does not work (Notepad++, Total Commander, ...)Unfortunately the rules did not work. But in newer drivers there is a further option available. The flags has been updated with the option16 Rule indicate the apply this to IBM Stick Scrolling when ScrollMethood is Synaptics. This means, that if the rule should apply to the scrolling done with TrackPoint, the flag needs to be increased by 16. I also had the problem, that the listed option WheelStd did not work in my case. After playing around I found out that Standard worked. So I updated the rules to the following and added them to the upper part of the file TP4table.dat: ; Process Explorer
*,*,*,*,*,PROCEXPL,Standard,0,25
; Notepad++ and Notepad2
*,*,*,*,*,Scintilla,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad2U,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad++,Standard,... Read more

Answer:TrackPoint scrolling not working

Excellent detective work both here and with one line scrolling; the TP4table.dat compatibility listing doesn't seem to have been updated for a long time.

I had an X201 and last year upgraded to the x240. Along with the loss of the physical trackpoint buttons, lenovo also drastically changed the trackpoint hardware. The trackpoint height was shortened, the overall sensitivity/acceleration was drastically reduced, and the "press-to-select" functionality was removed. Does anyone know if those issues have also been addressed in the new x250? That is, is this basically the old (better) trackpoint that was used in prevoius models (e.g., the x201), or is it the same (**bleep**ty) trackpoint as in the x240, just with physical buttons.  Thanks,Chris

Answer:x250 Trackpoint Question

Also, I tried to ask this question in a sales chat, and got the response "the trackpad functionality has been designed to reproduce that of older models."   I said I wasn't interested in the trackpad, just the trackpoint, and asked explicitly whether I could register a mouse click by pressing the trackpoint.  That caused the rep (or bot) to disconnect... after two full minutes of waiting I was requed for a new rep.  Thanks Lenovo for that great customer service experience.

I had a user complain of their mouse being frozen. At first I thought it was crashed but the keyboard is still working fine. With an external mouse connected the mouse would move on the screen.   Is there a key combo that will disable both devices? I'm wondering if this was pressed. If I uninstall the drivers and software then the Touchpad and Touchpad only worked, when I reinstalled the drivers both of them again failed to move the mouse.  It is acting as if they have been disabled.  When I open the mouse properties in the controll panel and go to the UltraNav tab this is what I get

I recently took my SL500 to a local repair shop to get that notorious left hinge repaired. After picking it up, at some point, I noticed that my TrackPoint wasn't working anymore. The TrackPad is functioning perfectly, though. I opened it up and looked at the connectors and all seems fine in there. I've also updated drivers. Any thoughts? I'd prefer not to sink any more money in this machine (e.g. buying a new keyboard) if possible. Thanks in advance!
