X1 Carbon wireless lock up

Question: X1 Carbon wireless lock up

Has anyone else experienced the wireless locking up? Lately I've been having wireless issues. It will still show it's connected but nothing will go through. Sometimes going into Airplane mode fixes it and sometimes a reboot fixes it. Very strange though Thanks Josh

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any other information? Is this happening at home, work, coffee shop? Do you have any other devices nearby using the same AP that are working fine? Are you using the Lenovo factory image or a custom OS install?

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2014 with integrated Sierra 4G LTE modem and i have not found a place where i can lock it to a specific frequency - it keeps changing between 3,5G (HSDPA) and 4G LTE, but i would like to lock it to 4G LTE, because even with low signal it is faster than 3,5G. It is possible on the phones and 3G USB sticks, but nowhere did i find to lock it on my laptop. I am using Lenovo Access Connections and there are no such options. Is it possible to lock it somehow? A registry key? Some hidden options? Please help!

I have a seemingly simple question that I hope someone can help me with. On my new Thinkpad X1 Carbon, I know by using Lenovo?s Adaptive Keyboard software you can reassign the Home and End keys to be Caps Lock. However I want to know after I reassign them to be the Cap Lock key, where do I find my Home and End keys? Is there a special combination of keys for Home and End? My intuition tells me there has to be, otherwise it?ll be just stupid. But I can't seem to find out the answer. Thanks.

Hi, there is an annoying feature in X1 Carbon, you must press twice the CAPS LOCK key to enable/disable. It is not compatible with all ThinkPad line. We need a feature to let customers choose traditional one key press for CAPS LOCK instead of 2 key clicks. I took 3 mintues more to type this message due to THIS ANNOYING FEATURE BY DEFAULT... and please guys do not say "disable it"... we are not microsoft basic users.

Answer:XI CARBON - ANNOYING Key Twice to CAPS LOCK

Hi emont,Thank you for your opinion. I have not found two split-second taps to be an inconvenience as opposed to one tap on one dedicated Caps Lock key.Perhaps the engineers will see your suggestion and consider it in future models.

The little LED on the shift key sometimes is on but Caps Lock is not on (all keys still in lower case). This is always the case when I log on freshly.  pressing Shift two times to enable Caps Lock (screen indicator comes on, ALL CAPS NOW) and pressing it two times again turns off Caps Lock as well as the LED indicator.  But sometimes it still behaves eradically. Any software update on this?

UPDATE Hi, you can lock the "Fn" key through pushing the combination of both "Fn" + "Esc" keys. Kind regards,J_Peter_S ------- Hi, I searched intensively, but couldn't find the way how to activate the "Fn" key lastingly for this particular Lenovo X1 Carbon model. I have to use very often traditional F-Keys (e.g. F4, F5). Therefore, I'd like to lock the "Fn" key like on traditional keyboards. Please let me know how to lock the "Fn" key. Thanks in advance, and kind regards,Jochem

My new X1 Carbon 3gen was able to connect to the internet at home using wireless on day 1 but not on day 2. It connects using the ethernet cable just fine. Other laptops in the house are connected using the wireless just fine. And, the X1 Carbon connected to the internet using wireless at school on day 1, day 2, and now day 3. Has anyone successfuly set up a wireless display based external monitor with the Gen 3 Carbon?   I know there are drivers, which I've downloaded from lenovo support, but not installed yet. Its pretty murky in general as to how to get the whole thing to actually work anyway, but would prefer a wireless display approach to the dreadful USB 3 "docking station" I used with my Carbon gen 1

Answer:Carbon Gen 3 Wireless Display

If you are talking about standard Windows 8.1 wireless display to Widi/Miracast adapter like Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 hooking to a HDMI monitor, works fine.   The only difference is with Intel WiDi 5.x installed, you get the extra pop up "toast" (those notifications that fly out from right), you can just ignore it.  You also get the new WiDi Remote thingie, that doesn't really do much. search for WiDi in my page would get you to the screenshots, about 40% down the pagehttp://users.wfu.edu/yipcw/lenovo/2015/X1C3/ Haven't tried any standalone wireless display like Lenovo ThinkVision LT1423p, i think other forum members have discussed those kind of setups in some other threads.

What wireless mice has anyone had success using on the 3rd Gen X1 Carbon?  From what I understand, the X1 3rd gen only has USB 3.0 ports and there is a known problem with interference between USB 3.0 and 2.4 Ghz devices.   Has anyone experienced issues plugging a nano transmitter for a wireless mouse (which typically operate at 2.4 Ghz ) into the USB 3.0 ports?  Has anyone had better luck with Bluetooth mice (which do not require transmitters on the X1 3rd Gen, but do operate in the same spectrum as other wireless devices)?

Answer:X1 Carbon and Wireless Mice

Good day and welcome to the community.

For the rare times I want a bit more control than afforded by my Carbon3's  TrackPoint, I use a small Logitech M187 mouse.

No issues with the Nano transceiver, which stores away nicely in the battery compartment. It's small, so it takes up negligble room in my backpack. And... it was only $10.

Hope this helps.
Enjoy your Carbon3!

Regards.

I got the driver version at 15.1.0.8 and the computer will not lock and freeze but one user has gotten a blue screen twice.

Hi, Currently Lenovo do not have a Windows 8.1 intel wireless display driver for the X1 Carbon, does anyone have an idea on when this will be on the driver matrix ? Thanks S

Answer:Intel Wireless Display - X1 carbon

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Windows 8.1 is totally a new approach and cannot be just considered as an update to Windows 8. Hence, the compatible drivers has to be redesigned so that they work properly in Windows 8.1. As of now, I cannot commit the exact arrival date of the missing drivers. You can expect it in a few days, maybe a week or even a month for the full and final release of all the drivers. X1 carbon has been officially tested with Windows 8.1. So hopefully, we can expect the missing drivers at the earliest.

Thanks for the patience!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I need to purchase several 2nd Gen X1 Carbon units, (4th Gen Intel Haswell Core i7 models - I'm thinking of the 20A7002WUS model) I cannot find anywhere that says that this model has Wi-Di.  (Intel Wireless Display) The wireless card in the model I'm looking at is the Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260AC and the specs of that card lists Wi-Di as being included. See here:  ark.intel.com/products/75439/Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-7260 I do find it strange that Lenovo doesn't list Wi-Di anywhere in the specs or product details for the X1 series.  I also know that OEMs customise wireless cards all the time, often disabling certain features.  I've found other forum posts here that suggest that Lenovo has disabled Wi-Di on the Intel wireless card.  I've also found other articles and reviews in various places that suggest that Wi-Di does work but I haven't seen anything conclusive. So - in short - does the X1 Carbon Core i7 20A7 series have Intel Wireless Display?

Answer:Does the X1 Carbon have Intel Wireless Display? (Wi-Di, widi)

Hi, jkuengWhat's the OS installed on your laptop? For win8/8.1 there are no needs for drivers if the card is in MBIM mode. It must work natively in OS. Let's check it. Look at the Device Manager, open Network Adapters item. You should see something with AiarCard. Open Properties, Details tab, pull down Options list, find out an item Compatible ID. Looks like USB\Class_xx&SubClass_xx&Prot_xx). Copy the values and past here. Will look.

Also, could you, please, post here USB IDs of this card? Find it at the same list under Hardware ID item (looks like VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx).

Hi Support, I would like to change a setting, so that the Sierra Wireless Adapter only connects to 4G networks. In Windows 10, I cannot see anywhere where I can easily set this. I would expect there to be mobile management software where these settings could be changed. I never want to connects to GPRS, and would like my Sierra Wireless mobile card to only connect to 4G or not connect at all. This would prevent the card dropping down to GPRS when the signal is temporarily weak and force it it to try for a 4G connection. I have had similar functionality on prior USB mobile data cards I.e. Vodafone, and hence the expectation that there would be similar settings on the Sierra Wireless. Thank you, George

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

I would have to reboot to get it to work again. I ended up rolling back to the previous driver (via Device Manager) and this seems to have sorted out the issue. I am currently on 17.0.5.8. Intel's forum has a whole discussion going on this issue with the 7260 adaptor and it seems to be ongoing. Their current suggestion is to upgrade to the latest driver (17.12!), but funnily enough this is what caused the issue for me in the first place. Something else I noticed after running updates is that my Logitech mouse and keyboard with unifying receiver started acting erratically, with the connection seeming to cut out constantly. I was wondering if this was related to the wireless driver issue. So far they have been fine since rolling back the driver. I thought I would post this here in case anyone else had a similar issue.

Answer:X1 Carbon (20A7) - wireless issue after updating driver to 17.12

I am running 17.12 and I am having no issues at all.I disabled Wake On Magic Packet and Wake On Pattern Match. Then suddenly it detected my school network. Maybe this helps you as well. It refused to detect my school network before I did this. Not sure if it is related. It seems odd though as this has nothing do do with stability.

Hello, I have deployed 20 laptops with the model of 20BT X1 carbon laptops  in corporate enviroment. The Lenovo X1 Carbon is randomly causing BSOD when using the wireless connection after undock. The wireless driver that I have installed on the laptop is the 18.2 version from Lenovo WCCM driver package. I noticed the BSOD is a bug in 18.2 which is resolved in the 18.4 version. However,  i am unable to upgrade to the latest version 18.4. Hi, I am trying to set up a Wireless Display Adapter (Model WMTB-177N) on my X1 Carbon Laptop, and I cant get the laptop to recognise the wireless adapter. I have updated all the relevant software, drivers and the BIOS. The Wireless Adapter was purchased with the new X1 about 6 months ago. My laptop is running Windows 7 Pro, and I am using Lenovo Quick Display. When I open up Quick Display, it shows in the Display panel, Lenovo_ADBA, which I presume is the Wireless Adapter. If I click on this icon, a window opens asking for the PIN code, but when I try to input a code from the keyboard, nothing appears in the window. If I copy ?admin? from a document, then paste it into the window, it appears OK, but then when I click OK, it comes back with ?Lenovo QuickDisplay Error ? Connection to Lenovo_ADBA failed? The documentation in the user manual I downloaded from the Lenovo site says that ?admin? is the default PIN code. If I try a fresh Search for Displays, and then use the Adapter NFC tag on the touchpad, the same window comes up asking for the PIN code, with the same results as before. I have also tried ?1234? and ?0000? as PINs, with no joy. The Wireless Adapter is not plugged in to the TV. Further playing reveals that it looks as if it is looking for an eight-digit PIN. Where might I get this from? I have never used a wireless adapter before, so I could be missing something simple. Can someone help, please? X1 C... Read more

Hi, I just cracked open my thinkpad carbon X1 gen 4. The purpose was to try and install a second WiFi card in the slot designed for the 3G/4G card. It was only after I had a look but the X1 carbon does not have miniPCIE slots. It appears to be a smaller form factor fro both the WiFi and the 3G/4G slot. Can anyone tell me what slot type this is? Many thanks

All I see is a WAN upgrade tool. Thanks!

It's about time I put in a wireless N router.   So over the weekend I worked up the courage to install an Asus RT-N66u.My ThinkPads T-410 and T-61 happily connected to either the 2.4 GHz channel or the 5 GHz channel immediately. However, the X1 Carbon did not initially.  In Lenovo Access Connections, the Wi-Fi connection option radio button was completely greyed out.   I verified that the Wi-Fi radio was still turned on.  Only "Other Connections" was turned on.  I powered down rebooted, and still saw the problem.  Messed around with it for 30 minutes and couldn't get it the WiFi connections active.I gave up on getting this to work, came back at midnight. Rebooted, then it did work. I don't know why it wouldn't work at first or why it started to work later.     Other challenge, though this doesn't seem to be the X1 Carbon's fault. The wireless router is upstairs. Downstairs I can't see my 5 GHz channel. I really would like to connect the 5 GHz channel, because in my neighborhood everyone else is on the 2 GHz frequency.  (according to inSSIDer.) Does anyone know how I can make the 5 GHz channel visible downstairs as well?

All of the sudden, for no obvious reason today, my mouse just stopped working. Come to find out, the Bluetooth is turned off and won't come back on. A bit of googling led me to find that hardware device is being disabled with the following message:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) I haven't done anything, installed any new drivers, etc. so why, all of the sudden would this happen?I've tried running the repair stuff, I have even downloaded and reinstalled the latest driver from lenovo, but nothing seems to work.I've had this laptop for about 3 weeks now and had as many problems. Function keys stop working randomly (even after the bios update), dragon assist completely missing and now this...I'm beginning to think Lenovo should have done more testing before releasing this laptop... Can someone please tell me how to get the stupid bluetooth radio fixed?I can't call Lenovo even though I paid for support, they are entirely too dumb (I spent an hour just convincing the last guy that dragon assist was supposed to be part of the laptop).

Answer:Carbon x1, windows 8.1 Intel Wireless Bluetooth Stopped working

I have the same problem. After experimenting for a while there is a dirty workaround: Go to Manager -> Deinstall the bluetooth driver and search for hardware change. This will reactivate the bluetooth but this is not a solution. So a fix is needed asap.

Hello everyone, I'm a bit desperate because I already tried so much.I'm running Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo X240, BIOS version 2.3 and the WWAN functionality broke about two weeks ago and I'm quite sure that this is related to a few updates that came either with Windows or more likely with Lenovo System Update which had a BIOS update and some driver updates alongside at that time.I cannot even try to establish a connection to the Deutsche Telekom LTE network, because all I'm seeing is "Insert a SIM" in the connection bar. This is what I tried so far:Use a different, well known working SIM card.Re-Install the driver packageUninstall and re-install the driver packageuse the "repair" function of the driver package setupBIOS downgrade from 2.3 to 2.29Disable and enable the WWAN functionality in the BIOSReplace the mainboard (lenovo service technician just went away an hour ago)And I'm still having the same issue. Now it's really nailed down to be either the BIOS or the driver in win 8.1 x64. One thing makes me wonder:When I choose to update the driver in the device manager and the Sierra card details, I'm pointing Windows direclty to the directory that contains the inf files and the device manager tells me that "The best driver software for your device is already installed." and shows me a "Generic Mobile Broadband Adapter". Is this an indicator for Windows completely ignoring all drivers in the setup directory of the driver package? Also, when I lookup the driver details, i... Read more

Hello, I have just spent the past couple hours combing this forum for this issue. I found one, but there was no resolution. Many issues regurding bad connectivity. That's how mine started. I could get it to "kick" back in until I would reset the adapter (disable, then re-enable). Or, sometimes reboot. This went on for a couple months. Then, all of a sudden - the PC started to experiance sudden power failures. Very wierd. Maybe once a day. I could never explain that one, but now... after happening maybe 10 times - the Wireless adapter is no longer showing up in Device Manager.  I have the Wiresless enabled in the BIOS.I have the hard swith turned to "ON".When I press FnF5 - I get the Power Settings screen, Bluetooth is ON, but no wireless is listed.Tried reinstalling / upgrading latest drivers.Unplugged battery and powered down.Opened the keyboard cover (yes, I am desperate to get this resolved) an everything looks pretty good. identified the WiFi module and even took that out and put it back in. Anyone have any thoughts? My theory is that after an abrupt Windows shutdown, something happened. However, was having the popular connectivity issues like everyone else before this happened. Thanks!!

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS.  If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.

Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?

I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.

Answer:Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking)

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Hi, I bought my Carbon Touch looking forward to activating with Verizon and replacing my current 3g ipad.  After hours trying to figure out how to enable broadband, I find out that apparently the "touch" models don't offer it.  Can someone at Lenovo explain how they can have promotional materials like the page at http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/thinkpad/x-series/x1-carbon-touch/ that says "ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch" and "Embedded 3G Connectivity" while not offering it at all? Then, I thought I'd return the Touch and get the regular Carbon, but I'm seeing now that, despite all of the reviews and promo materials that say otherwise, it doesn't support Verizon either.  How can this be true?  Just about every review that I read about these laptops is flat wrong on these topics.  What's the scoop? I tried calling technical support a couple of times and they were of no help.

Answer:X1 Carbon Touch WWAN (Carbon does not support Verizon and Carbon Touch has no 3G at all)

jprny,

Welcome to the Support Forums! I can definitely understand your confusion and I know you must be frustrated. I can clarify that the WWAN is optional in the X1 Carbon, from the same link you provided you can open the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch Ultrabook Specs it states there is Optional 3G WWAN.

Here is the the X1 Carbon Personal Systems Reference (You will find the X1 Carbon Touch on the very bottom)
This shows the different models of the X1 Carbon and what specifications are included. Unfortunately, I only see AT&T as the 3G provider on the standard models. From the Parts List it looks like there are other options to choose from that would make it a configured to order machine. You may want to contact Verizon to see if any of the WWAN cards work with their network.

I would recommend contacting the after sales team:

Such a thing would be possible with malware I guess, but there's probably something else that can do it. Just uninstall the wireless drivers, it'll take Windows all of class to figure out what happened.

Im having a heck of a time with my wireless connection on my laptop while in NYC. Because there are soo many 'other' wireless networks in the building, the main one Im on keeps getting kicked off.

Windows keeps letting me know that i have other wireless connections to choose from instead of locking me in the one i want. I can reconnect to my main wireless network but then a couple minutes later i get booted and the network icon lets me know there a serveral networks to choose from.

How can i ignore these other ones, and lock in on my main one?

Thanks, in advance,
Brian

in the conenction manager in windows, have YOUR network as the only one in the bottom section.

that should help

Answer:wireless connection lock!

Does your modem have a wireless capability? If so, there should be a book/leaflet that came with the device called "User manual", refer to that to secure your wireless access point. Look for "WPA" or "WPA2" in that book/leaflet.

If you mean to make the wireless part secure, then all you have to do is enable good WPA security. That is all that is necessary as any other measures don't nearly compare in security terms. A good WPA password generator is here click here

I live on the second floor of a 1700's building. I live directly above the jukebox which contains the wireless modem. Most days I am able to get a full signal from my room. However, there are days when the signal is intermittent and I will lose connectivity for a little while and it comes back again after different periods of time, anywhere from 2 minutes up to 10 minutes. I know the jukebox draws its information form the internet using the wireless connection so I am not sure if it is taking away from the signal while being played, I would think it would be shared. It is set up for that purpose, to be shared throughout the bar/rooms. I am curious if there is a way to lock onto the signal and keep it locked on or possibly boost my reception of it, with a program or changing my settings, not using any equipment (the landlady is worried that using any equipment would disrupt the jukebox's performance. It is set as Public, and reads that we are getting upwards of 15 Mbps while connected though we are slated to have only three. I believe the boost comes from having several wireless signals surrounding us. Anyone with any idea on how to make my computer stay in touch with the signal permanently please let me know. Other than using equipment. I have read of home made reception devices but am asking here before doing anything of that nature. Thanks as always.

Answer:Lock onto wireless signal

The connection speed windows reports is only the speed between the computer and the router, not the actual speed of internet hooked to it. Saddly the only way to get a better signal strength really is to get a wifi card with an external antenna hooked up and get a better antenna.

You must set the WEP up on the Router with a password. This will generate a long string of numbers and letters. Copy that down.Ensure that Broadcast SSID is also enabled. On the PC right click on the Wireless Network icon and select "View All available networks"You will see your netwrok in the list that appears as "A Secure Network". Select it and it will ask you to input the WEP key that you copied down above. Once you have done this you will connect to the network.Go back to the router and disable "Braodcast SSID"

I live in a nice housing community, with a housing association, etc. I also teach network intrusion classes as my day job. The other day, I got bored coming home from work, and decided to do a basic netstumbler. It was fairly quiet the whole way until I got into my area. Just driving the main road, which makes a 2 mile loop, I picked up 15 wireless points, with no WEP enabled. A little more driving, and taking in the apartment/townhouses on the other side, and there's at least 50 open networks here.

So, I got to thinking. I could try to work with the home owners association and see if I could use the community center to teach a free class on securing home networks. The HOA could advertise in their newsletters. I'd give an hour class, and if people need more help, I'd charge $40 per household to set it all up.

What do you guys think? Anyone looked into something like this? I have the background and expertise to let people know that a trusted person is securing their network. And I'm sure $40 is a lot cheaper than most places would charge for house-calls of a like nature.

Answer:Teaching a neighborhood to lock down wireless?

I get on their networks in their shared folders and put links to the best networking sites and how to secure their network. Heck one neighbor never did anything and I was placing shortcuts on his desktop! Yea I know it's not exactly legal but it gets them thinking that I could of done much worse since alot shared their C: drive. Idiots

I think what your doing is good but $40 might be a bit much for people who didn't care enough in the first place.

I want to upgrade my X1 Carbon (type 20A7) wireless lan card from single to dual band.  The Intel datashee lists two possible models: (from http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth-brief....Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 72607260NGW 802.11ac, 2x2, Bluetooth 4.0, PCIe, USB, M.2 22307260SDW 802.11ac, 2x2, Bluetooth 4.0, PCIe, USB, M.2 2226 Solder Down Lenovo lists the following models as compatible "ac" cards:(from https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x1_carbon_gen2_fru_bom_20140505b.pdf)04W3844 Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 M.2 Card Indonesia SKU04X6007 Intel Wilkins Peak 2 7260 2*2 11ac+BT4.0 M.2 Card Wake# Issue Fix SKU Before finding this information, I got the 7260NGW and installed it.  On booting the machine I get the:1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card (8086/08B1/8086/C070)So should I try the 7260SDW or is the 7260NGW the correct one and maybe I just have a bad card?  Thanks!!

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon (type 20A7): which Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 is compatible

Hello and welcome,

You've run into the BIOS whitelist.  A card must be a supported model (7260) AND have a Lenovo FRU number (04W3844 or 04X6007).  A "vanilla" 7260 won't pass the whitelist check and you'll get the 1802 error.

The volume is set to 10/10 and I get a lock sound when I lock it using the power button. Does this mean that Touch Lock does not actually lock the phone?

When I'm on the 2nd story of my house with my laptop apparently we get some signal from a neighbors linksys router.. and my connection will drop.

I used to have this happen and the wireless icon would show itself not connected (with an x) and then trying to aquire network address to the other network.

It doesn't do this anymore, but when I check the wireless networks in range when I have this problem, the linksys always shows up with one bar. If I disconnect from my link and reconnect (Dlink) everything works fine.

I don't have the linksys in my preferred networks, and I even added it at one point to uncheck the 'connect when this network is within range' box. Is there anyway to control my wireless card so that it only attempts to connect to my d-link or nothing? Kinda like Bluetooth can see all other wireless networks but you tell it which to link to and that's that.

I appreciate any help

Answer:Can I lock my wireless card to a specific signal?

Windows XP? Are you using the Windows Wireless Zero-Config tool to configure your wireless device?

You might try changing your SSID to something completely different and maybe changing the channel that it is broadcasting on. Everyone in your neighborhood is more than likely on channel 6 so I would recommend switching to either 1 or 11 to cut down on interference.

Your computer should only try to connect to a network if it is setup to connect to it. Also, if using windows zero config it should process the list of prefered networks in order. So, if you have "linksys" listed about yours then it will try to connect to that one first.

On occasions the little wireless icon on the taskbar displays a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it and internet ceases operation (other computers in the house work fine so its not the router). Moving the cursor over the icon or right clicking show no messages instantly though after probably a minute or two it says 'limited connectivity or 'repair..
Because the icon is so slow and unresponsive I usually turn off the computer - this takes far longer than normal to log off and shut down.

On restarting the laptop the internet will not work - there is a red cross on the wireless icon. Right click on this and repair shows option 'turn on wireless utility' and when selected it reconnects. The wireless switch on the laptop is left on all the time.

This occasional lock up and required reboot is a nuisance, but I am asking what is the problem and how can I rectify it?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L300-1AQ and Wireless 'Lock Up' issue

Hi

It?s hard to say what the problem could be?
It seems that the notebook loses the WLan connection from time to time?.
If it?s not the WLan router then the issue must be related to the notebook?

Are you using the latest WLan driver and BIOS???
If not then I recommend updating the WLan card driver and the BIOS.

After that configure the WLan connection again and check if you could notice any improvements?

I have a wireless network based on a Belkin router. It has connected a pc, directly connected via RJ45, and 2 wireless laptops and a PS3. Can i restrict the access so that whem all the pc.s are off the PS3 can only access the router for certain time periods. Its the old problem. we shut everything down except the router and the kids play on the PS3 untill the early hours. I dont really want to turn the router off, just restrict access to certain times. Thanks

Answer:timelock/child lock wireless router

Which router is it? On some routers you can restrict access just as you say by filtering the MAC address.

Hi, I hope someone can help. I have an Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop that was originally Vista but now is running 8 pro.

The problem I have is that every time I turn on my laptop I have no icon on either my caps lock or wireless.

I must admit this problem is not totally new since I've upgraded to 8 pro, it used to happen approx 3-4 times a year when running Vista.

All I used to do was download Dell driver R197947.ex (Quickset driver), then everything would be fine for 3-4 months.

But now it is happening every time i use my laptop although if I download the above driver it is fine until I use my laptop again, and then both icons are missing again.

Both caps lock and the wireless key still function perfectly well, but with out icons to indicate their present status.

All ideas and comments welcome.

Regards Dominic

Hello All,
Not sure if this should be in the Security or a different area.
I have a user where when ever he shuts his laptop lid for a couple minutes and opens it back up he gets locked out from the Company Wireless connection.
He is the only one who has this issue so I am unsure why this happens. The Wireless uses AD Authentication.
I even made it to prompt him for the password and everything when reconnecting.
This has not resolved the issue. I am about to the point to make the computer do nothing when he shuts the lid.

Does anyone have any clue why this would happen to one user? I currently have him set up on the Guest Network and using the VPN. Then when he uses a Ethernet cable he has no issues either. Everything points toward the one Wireless connection.

Any Ideas or thoughts?
Thanks,
Zach

Is it possible to force the function lock key 'on' during boot-up with a wireless keyboard

Answer:winxp force function lock wireless keyboard

Ripped from another site:The new Microsoft keyboards assign actions such as Save or Open to the function keys. To enable the default functionality of a function key without performing the action that Microsoft has assigned to the key, you must press the Function Lock key before you press the function key. Unfortunately, the new keyboards don't contain a programmatic way to set the state of the Function Lock key. Therefore, you can't configure the keyboard to enable the Function Lock key by default; you must press Function Lock every time you start your machine.

It happened I had my wireless turned off when I installed Windows 10 (FN+F9 deactivation) and now that have Windows 10 installed I can't find a way to enable the FN+F9 shortcut to enable it again. I've tried downloading all drivers and software from this website but it has only enable the FN+F9 shortcut enable/disable airplane mode, which is not the same as the software wifi switch".This is what it should look like:The actioncenter does have a wifi button but it does nothing. Do I go to wifi setting and try to enable wifi I can't as the slider just wont move and if I try to troubleshoot in Windows it tells me to press the button on the laptop to enable Wifi but since that doesn't work I'm stuck. I think whoever made the Win10 update for the hotkeys made a major mistake.  I need a way to enable wifi on this laptop! Thanks.

I have a wireless network in my house and it's the only way I connect to the internet using my PC and a laptop. One easy solution to this problem would be for me to run about 50 feet of CAT5 through my house, but I really don't feel like doing that.

Here's what's been happening:

Every time I open streaming media from the internet that has to play with Windows Media Player, the wireless connection completely locks up, and the router cannot be accessed. Even if I connect to it after the fact with a CAT5 cable using the laptop, it still won't respond. The only way, it seems, to solve this problem and get the network up and running again is to unplug it and plug it back in about 10 seconds later.

This problem only happens when I use my PC to access this streaming content. If I try to recreate the problem with the laptop wirelessly, no problem.

Now, I recently replaced the motherboard in my computer, but nothing else. Wireless NIC is the same, router is the same, ram, processor, everything. The OS has been re-installed as well.

All the networking hardware is Linksys, and it's all runing the latest drivers and firmware.

Any ideas?

I've got a wireless network at home.

Call me old fashioned, but I want to supervise my children's internet access.

From the PCs in their rooms, I want my children to be able to access the local network resources (printers, common file areas) but not to be able to beyond the router out to the internet.

If they want to get on the internet they'll have to go down to the family room and use one of the machines there.

How can I set this up?

Answer:Solved: How to lock out internet access on selected wireless network PCs

Give them a static IP and change their default gateway from the one pointed to your router or ISP.

Does anyone know how to reactivate this feature. I have spent about an hour trying to figure it out to no avail so am asking you.

This HP Laptop has not been booting properly. After some investigation, I came up across the LED blink/beep problem codes and was hoping to utilize that page. The problem is, on my laptop, the Caps Lock LED light constantly flashes and does not stop, unlike on the problem code page where it says it should stop to give me an idea of what the problem is. Additionally, the LED light on the Wireless key is a solid red color. After multiple attempts, I cannot find anything about an infinite caps lock blinking and a solid red light. I've attempted the hard reset, where I take out the battery and the AC Adapter and hold the power button down for an extended period of time. I've also reseated the RAM sticks. I've also even taken out the CMOS battery and replaced that.  If possible, could it just be a failure system board/motheboard? I've been told that if I take out the RAM and try powering on the device, the device should beep at me since it doesn't recognize any RAM, but in my case, it doesn't beep. Any other ideas?
