Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

Question: Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I discovered the minute ago:after removing the wireless profile and trying to connect to the router, Win 7 doesn's ask for a WEP key until the router is rebooted, looks like the issue is on a very low level, on the initial stages of a connection establishment. What was not tried:- I didn't have access to any other router right now to try it out. NOTE: For now I do not have access to router to upgrade it or to change settign, can only plug off/on power. UPDATE: I believe it is getting worse and this time X220 didn't manage to stay connected even 20 minuts and I had to reboot my router again.

Preferred Solution: Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help. UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

I also just ordered a x220 with the 6205. However, i also have a 6300 card in another laptop. Can i just open up the x220, disconnect it, plug in the 6300 one, connect it, put it back together, and will it work? Sorry if i am hijacking the thread.

I have a PCI-e WiFi/BT combo card that worked in my HP laptop, but when I put it in the N580, It would not boot and said the wifi card was not authorized and I would have to remove it and replace with an authorized card. There are SO many different card available, I just want to find the correct one that will fit in the BIOS Whitelist.  I'm looking for a Dual Band wifi with Bluetooth 4.0 preferred. Something like this. Would this one on eBay work or is there another card I would need. Thanks! -Joshua

Answer:Can I replace stock wifi card with an Intel 6235 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI-e card in my N580?

Hello and welcome,

Whatever card you use, it MUST have a Lenovo FRU number.  Cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist have been modified to provide a specific subsystem ID to BIOS.  Reputable sellers will list the Lenovo FRU if their card is compatible.

For example, a generic Intel 6150NX will not pass the whitelist, but a 6150NX with a 20002543 FRU number will pass.

Here's the list from the N580 Hardware Maintenance Manual:

I have a toshiba Satellite L500D that seems to have issues connecting and reconnecting to wifi signals.

At my house it only connects once in a blue moon and when it does connect it cuts off and disconnects after a couple minutes of use. When I reboot it, it doesn't connect automatically and I have to search for my ssid and connect that way.

I brought it to my fiends house to test, and it seems to run smoother. No random disconetions but It still wont automatically reconnects after a reboot. (actually it does on a restart or a reboot within a couple of minutes, but anything longer and it doesn't remember and reconnect automatically)
I have the auto reconnect box checked off, Not sure why it wont automatically do it.
Im not sure If I should get a new router at home or a new wireless card or both?

edit; I have installed and reinstalled the wireless adapter drivers fr Toshiba site over and over w/ no change.

Hello, I have a 802.11n issue that drives me crazy..My X220 with 6205n Wifi adapter cannot connect to the router in N mode. The router is a huawei HG655b, using WPA2-PSK/AES. All my other computers at home can connect in N mode, but the X200.It only connects in b and g modes, as soon as I swith the X220 adapter's N mode on from device manager, it disconnects. I have updated the Wifi driver to the last version from Lenovo site, I have changed Power options on both battery and Ac to maximum performance for Wifi...what else could it be? An incompatibility with the router?

Good Morning to all of you! I'm searching for some advice for some problem which is troubling me lately. It's really not a big deal but it's bugging me: Every time I boot my x220 it will take 2-3 minutes to connect to my wifi network. I know it's not a big secret that all this lenovo tools installed are slowing down the computer and as a consequence the wifi software will be started with a delay but maybe someone of you knows a way or two to work around this? Maybe I can somehow prioritize the start of the wifi software? I appreciate every advice I can get.

I've had experience this problem for a while now on my newly built windows 10 rig. Every few hours, my Wifi simply stops working; the connection is lost. Sometimes it reconnects after a minute or so. Most of the time, I would need to manually disable/enable the wifi adapter in my Network Settings to get it back up again.

It happened with a relatively expensive adapter that I bought not to long ago - Netgear A6210 USB 3.0 dual-band wifi adapter. I found a thread about this issue here. I've not been able to resolve it with any of the tips provided (including downloading a generic 3rd party Mediatek driver). I've used this same adapter without this problem on my older Win7 machine. I thought maybe this adapter "went bad".

So I tried to replace this adapter with an older Wifi adapter made by Rosewill, using older Rosewill drivers. The same issue occurs. (Again, this Rosewill adapter worked perfectly in my Win7 system) So I have a hunch the problem is Windows 10 itself. Does it not place nicely with existing or older wifi adapters on the market? Would I need to buy a new adapter specifically certified for Windows 10?

Anyone have any insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

Hi everybody, I ran into some issues with my X220 some weeks back and have been trying to fix them to no avail. As far as I can remember I took some time a few weeks back to install the 1.40 firmware-update and also updated the battery-firmware in the same routine. I'm not sure If it was immediately afterwards (since I'm using a dock with LAN), but the wifi-card (Intel 6205) wasn't recognized by the OS anymore. No entry in the device manager! Here's what I've seen/tried so far:1) What I was firstly able ot see was that the device would sometimes show up after returning from sleep when not in the dock.2) Since I have an Ericson WWAN-card i switched mPCIe places. WWAN-card works in both slots. No recognition of the Wifi-card in both. >> So it doesn't seem to be related to mPCIe or the board.3) My guess was a faulty card, so I tried a newly-bought Intel 7260 Wifi-card in the slot.3.1) The Wifi-card must have been recognized by the BIOS, since the whitelist-fault was presented and I had to remove it to even be able to boot again.3.2) As the warranty wasn't my concern anymore anyways I flashed a whitelist-disabled version of the 1.40 firmware. As promised, I was able to boot with the 7260 card.3.3) Yet still, the card is not presented in the device manager.4) Since my Windows 7-installation had quite some time on its shoulders I reckoned that maybe another OS would be able to properly recognize the card. I just freshly installed Windows 10 and again - not... Read more

Answer:X220 doesn't recognize Wifi-card

Update:I used a debian live installation running from a pendrive to look for detected hardware. No wifi was found - again for both cards.I'm really lost for ideas at this point. What really irritates me is that the BIOS/UEFI recognizes the 7260 card with correct VID and PID. Yet still the cards are somehow (I guess) not made available to the operating system. On another note: I've just noticed that I posted in the wrong forum section. It's about an X220, so the "ThinkPad X Series Laptops" forum would be the correct one. Could a moderator maybe move this topic?

Interesting concept.
Even if it was recognized in the slot, I'm pretty confident that the card would be rejected by the BIOS whitelist with an 1802 boot-time error.

Hi guysHave an issue with an X220 where the system was ready to be sent to the user, I did system update the night before deploying which included a firmware update, next morning the wifi was disabled. (original bios 1.28 I think, new bios 1.4).The wifi card is no longer detected by the system at all, indicating the firmware has disabled the card. I managed to force it back to a previous BIOS revision but the issue persists, I then rolled to 1.4 official again and have tried the modded bios v1.4 (without wifi whitelist).I have tried the original card in a different unit and it works, and have tried the spare units wifi card (same model card) in this X220, also not detected. So it seems the BIOS is still blocking all similar Intel cards. Interestingly if I try a Broadcom card from a different model Lenovo, it is detected in the mini wifi slot.So this confirms the slot is operational.I cannot use it however since it is a full size card and does not fit in the mini wifi section in the x220.Last idea I had was to try all the cards in the 2nd (full length) slot but that will not pick up any Wifi cards at all. Anybody have an idea where to look to enable the Intel cards again? I have seen mention of a pin which is used for this but surely with the modded bios this should not be an issue? Note that with any of the intel cards inserted no devices are detected in Dev Man, and no option to switch them on via Fn+F5 (wifi option missing) Thanks for any suggestion... Answer:X220 wont detect Intel mini wifi, detects full size Broadcom, BIOS 1.43 w/o whitelist

HiWhat's the wifi card model, its p/n, Lenovo FRU? If this card isn't approved to use in x220, do you get the lock screen with error 1802 message during the laptop booting with original BIOS? Regarding the patched BIOS any question should be addressed to its author, it's not a deal of this official forum.BIOS v.1.4 wasn't released ever. Intitial, factory released version 1.04 dated 2011 year is outdated. The recent version is 1.43. It's impossible to rollback this version to any previous version, 1.28 including.

I've read from various places that Lenovo whitelists WLAN/WWAN cards in BIOS. What level of whitelisting do they do? Will this block all aftermarket cards? I'm interested in installing a Killer 1102N Wifi card (primarily because of the control over the network stack the driver provides the user with). Will I have any problems with this? Do I need to hack my BIOS etc? Heres a link to the actual wifi card product http://www.bigfootnetworks.com/killer-wireless-n-1102/  I'm only purchasing this aftermarket because Lenovo doesn't actually offer this card in their notebooks

Answer:X220 Tablet + Killer 1102 N Wifi Card?

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unauthorized_MiniPCI_network_card

The reason for the whitelist is to match the card to the antennas to comply with FCC regulations regarding interference.  Most mfgrs. do the same thing.  The link explains it fairly well.  The card has to be Lenovo branded.  You can take the exact same two wireless cards and if one is not Lenovo branded, it will throw the error.

And yes, you would have to modify the bios.

I have been using a TP-Link WR1043-ND for a while now. It is configured as a dumb switch with DHCP disabled. Every other day or so, the device stops taking connections and I cannot access via the IP address. A simple power toggle resets everything immediately. Through this, the LAN connected devices never lose connectivity, I simply am not able to connect wirelessly or access the router via web browser.

The only device I connect to the wifi is my phone, so it may actually be more frequently and I do not notice due to my low utilization (and I have 3G so I don't always notice right away if I'm connected). I have a WDTV Live SMP connected to one of the LAN ports and that functions non-stop regardless of the wifi. When the wifi is "down", my phone can see the network and attempts to connect. Sometimes it times out, other times I am repeatedly prompted that the password is incorrect, even though I am POSITIVE that I am entering it correctly. Once I toggle power on the router, the phone connects fine with the stored password.

I have updated to the latest firmware (about a month or so ago): Version: 3.13.12 Build 120405 Rel.33996n
My hardware version is: WR1043ND v1 00000000

The router is connected (via LAN port 1) to a wall drop. My upstairs roomate maintains the gig switch and modem, as well as handling the network admin. I simply am using the router as a switch to provide extra ports and broadcast the network over wifi in my apartment.

Dear all,

Answer:Satellite A100 - Upgrading WIFI card from Intel 3945ABG to Intel 5300AGN

Don?t think that someone can give you a proper answer since the compatibility depends on the BIOS?
If the BIOS would support the new WLan card, then you could use it for sure?

The point is that motherboards is able to handle the miniPCI WLan cards? the module is just plugged to the miniPCI slot and its removable?
So there is just an question regarding the BIOS support and I?m afraid you will need to test this at your own risk

Hi All,

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 V1 router that doesn't work.

The lights all blink properly, but the internet connection part doesn't seem to be working. When connecting internet line directly to the computer, my internet works, but when connecting it to the router to the computer, it doesn't.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Or is this router a goner?

I've tried resetting, unplugging for 30 minutes, etc. Putting in 192.168.1.1 brings up nothing on my web browser. Pinging it says connection timed out.

My ipad is able to pick up the router signal as it shows the wifi bars on top, but when trying to use the internet, it says that it's not connected to the web.

Please help!

Thanks!

Answer:Wifi router blinking, but not connecting. Help!

Hello, you could try a reset on your router, here are instructions from the cisco site.
for your model

To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:

1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
5) Power down the router.
6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Hi allI have an Acer One Aspire 10.1 Netbook with built in Wi-Fi. The OS is XP Home.In my travels overseas and at home in Oz I have no problems with connecting to the Net via any available Wi-Fi outlet, private and public. At the moment I am holidaying in New Zealand, again no problem connection to the net via Wi-Fi from any hotel or airport thus equipped. However for the next 10 days I will be staying with the outlaws in the North Island, and here is where the problem presents it?s self. My sister-in-law does have Wi-Fi to which I tried to connect with the password she gave, but the connection failed. I went to the log-in page and used the password supplied only to receive this error message headed: ?Wi-Fi connection prohibition message ?wireless network connection? The network ? bla bla bla? (sister-in-laws network) requires a network key (also called a WEP key or WAP key). A network key helps prevent unknown intruders from connecting to this network. Type the key and then click Connect? I typed in her password and confirmed the PW in the next box, only to get this error message: ?The network password needs to be 128 or 256 bits depending on you network configuration. This can be entered as 8 to 63 asci characters or 64 hexadecimal characters. , Why is this happening when I have managed to connect to every other Wi-Fi connections in any other locations and countries? I must add here that my sister-in-law does use her computer for work purposes fro... Read more

Answer:WiFi not connecting on this Modem Router

My guess is you are entering the password into WEP instead of WAP or visa versa or the tech created a new key and they don't know the correct one.Just guessing,Bryan

Answer:Problem connecting WiFi router

It looks like you need to reset the router and/or the adaptor as well. You should have no problem with Windows firewall being enabled.

If you can post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all it might also help.

I have a computer connected with the router, and several mobile devices and a laptop which connect to the router on and off. Occasionally (and very annoyingly) all devices connected to the wifi are unable to connect to the wifi even if they are in range, all devices at the same time are unable to connect to the wifi. This will last for hours until somebody goes and restarts the router, and during this dry spell the computer connected through LAN with the router works just fine.

The router i'm talking about is "N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router"
or can be found at this link: http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-15_TD-W8980.html

My laptop and computer both are win 8.1, the other devices include android and ios.

Edit 1: This router is brand new (3 days old) and wifi auth is WPA2-PSK or sth.

I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

I want to use a separate wifi router with my Comcast cable modem that has a built-in wireless router. I want to improve speed and also use a better firewall.

Am I correct that if I put the Comcast cable modem into bridge mode, I can still address it via it's IP address, which for me is 192.168.1.1.

So should I set up the separate wireless router as 192.168.1.2? Will this device also get an external IP address on the Comcast WAN?

Thanks

At one time I used Connectify which enables a Windows 7 notebook to share it's internet connection by turning the notebook into a wifi hot spot. I received BSOD each time I would connect to the signal with my DroidX, this was not a problem with any other system I connect.

I received a recommendation download from Windows which was Intel's official version of software similar to Connectify. It allows you to turn your notebook into a wifi hot spot. I figured that it was best to use this software because it was developed by Intel and my wifi hardware is Intel. Long story short, I am still having the same BSOD issues each time I try to connect my DroidX to the hot spot signal generated by my notebook. Any other system I try to connect such as other laptops and other phones do work perfectly and do not cause any BSOD's. Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping me out

For some reason in the latest build 9926, I can no longer enter my WiFi key (which contains a long phrase with spaces in it). The keyboard doesn't allow entry of the space.. it just doesn't do anything. Anyone else have this issue?

It worked fine in the last build. Even trying to use WPS it won't work as the key it inserts seems to have the spaces removed automatically...

I found about 8 reports with a lot of Me Too's in the Windows Feedback app about this very problem, so it appears i'm not the only one.

hello, I have a problem connecting wifi router(airlive wt-2000r) to my ADSL modem(webstar epc2203ed2.0) using utp patch cable. When my PC is connected straight to the ADSL modem everything works like charm. But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available.

Connecting them two devices seems pretty simple and I don´t think I am doing anything wrong so what could be the problem?

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you. This is my ipconfig /all

I am usually pretty savvy with networking but this one really has got me. I have searched all over teh Intarwebs with no success solving it.

Basically, here's the issue. I'm in Mexico, and I want to set up a VPN (specifically HideMyAss, HMA) so that I can use my Roku and generally stream things from the United States.

TELMEX has given me a Alcatel-Lucent I-240w-q router which connects to the fiber line they have run to my house.

Separately, I bought a ASUS RT-N16 wifi router because that is the one that HMA says can be programmed to be the central "tunnel" into their VPN. I upgraded the RT-N16 firmware to DD-WRT's most recent build.

I have access to the config sections of both routers so I can modify their settings at will.

So what I need to do is connect the Alcatel router to the Asus router in such a way as I can use the Asus router as the primary access to the Internet (I wanted to set this up BEFORE I get the HMA subscription so that I could confirm it worked before I shell out for HMA).

I would deeply appreciate any assistance at all in setting things up so it goes through.

Answer:Connecting fiber modem to wifi router

You'll need to check with Roku as to whether this is a violation of the terms of service. Based on what I'm seeing, Roku has specific appliances for different countries. I can easily see that what you're doing by accessing US programming from Mexico is a violation of the terms of service; more specifically the programming owners will probably have issues with streaming to foreign countries.

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 13" for the last year and a half.
I changed the password for my router after which my Dell XPS is not able to connect to the internet. The laptop does connect to the router (status states - Secured, Connected) however it does not connect to the internet.
I can connect to the internet via the same router on multiple devices (ipad, iphone, android phone, macs and another Lenovo Windows machine)
I am bamboozled as to why this Dell XPS is not able to connect.
Checking the properties of the device (via the Device Manager) says the Device is working properly. The network adapter is a Dell Wireless 1820A.802.11ac.
I tried to uninstall and re-install the driver and still don't see a difference.
Appreciate any assistance.
The Dell website (for Drivers and downloads is also friendly). I can't easily check what the latest driver is.
Searching for wireless for my Dell XPS
returns only one result  and the installation of that is not successful either.

Answer:Wifi connecting to my router however it does not connect to the internet

When you stated you changed the password on the Router, I thought you meant the one for the Admin of the Router.  I suppose you mean the WPA2 security password for the network..
I assume you have looked at the available networks and picked the one you use and check it properties for Public/Private and security settings?
If the wireless icon is showing a yellow triangle it may be related to DNS.  You might check the IP Settings on the above reference page to make sure you have correct IP addresses listed.

(note: restarting the laptop fixes this until it happens again) this is something that happens randomly, I'll be doing something (usually requiring internet) and all the sudden the wifi card disappears from the connections list. I cannot see why this happens and it seems to happen randomly with no pattern. Opening device manager to the wifi card says that it has an error code 14 and that I need to restart to fix it, if I go the the details tab under Status I get these messages and under problem code I get this this is fixed by restarting but this happens 2-4 times a day and gets really annoying

Answer:Wifi card suddenly stops with no error

I'd try updating to the latest driver from Intel.

Then I'd try running in safe mode with networking.

If none of those work, I would start to suspect a bad network card in your laptop.

I was going to point the finger at your wireless router, but it looks like you are getting actual errors on the NIC.

Can someone help me out please?

Hi all
I've got a Belkin F5D8236-4 wireless router. I've had no trouble connecting three laptops to it, but I've completely failed with my HTC smartphone and a friend has failed with a iPhone, I've also failed with an iPod. I've just got a Nexus 7, for my birthday, and that won't connect either! All devices find the network, they just don't connect!
I really would appreciate any help so I can use my present. I perhaps should say that, although I consider myself reasonably computer literate, the whole world of networking is a complete mystery to me!
Thanks in anticipation
Steve

Answer:connecting to wifi with smartphones/tablets with Belkin Router

Have you tried unplugging the router for about ten minutes and trying again?
You could also try resetting the router - this will involve r-entering all of the settings.
There may be a problem with the wireless channel of your router - go into the configuration pages and see if changing this channel helps - a lot of routers have a default channel setting of 6 - try 1 or 11.
Are you sure that you are using the correct network key on your devices?
This piece of advice is from a Belkin forum
"f your htc device has WPS(wi-fi protected setup) in the wireless settings enable it with the wireless on, now somewhere on the back of the router should be a small button with a padlock above it hold, that down for 5 seconds and the padlock symbol on the front will flash and then thats it you should be connected. no need to change any complicated settings "
I have to do this with my own livebox - it is called pairing.

Do you get any error messages? Kindly attach the snapshot of the device manager.
Also follow the below steps to power cycle the modem and router.
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Switch off the modem followed by the router and also unplug their power cables.
3. Wait for 30 seconds.
4. Plug the power cords back into the modem and the router but don?t switch them on yet.
5. First turn on your modem and wait for it to initialize (let the lights become stable).
6. Then switch on the router and let the blinking lights stabilize.
7. Now turn on your computer or your gaming console connected to the network. You should now be able to access the Internet.

I have been having issues with my laptop.

I have an HP Envy DV7 Model: C2N70UA

It was turned off for a few months, and when I turned it back on found out I could not connect to the internet, it gave a "connected no internet" message, but if I hovered over the wifi icon on taskbar, it would say "Unidentified Network".

I did find that if I reset Network through Network Settings which runs netsh, after the reboot it would connect to a WiFi network, but if I tried to connect to another network I would have to reset network again and reboot to connect to it.

I have tried rolling back the laptop, updating WLAN drivers, even tried installing an older driver that I knew worked perfectly in the past. So far nothing has fixed the issue.

Answer:Issue connecting to new WiFi Networks

Hi tlarseth

While I'm not sure this is a solution could you please check your power mgmt options for your wireless adapter. First in device manager, there should be a power mgmt tab. I would remove check mark that allows Computer to power down device to save power.

I would then head to advance power options. Under Wireless adapter make sure battery and plugged in is set to Maximum performance.

Are you running any kind of network profiling software from HP. Can't remember what they called it, something like Wireless Assistant. If so I would review those settings.

Would you mind sharing what wireless adapter you have.

My computer's wifi connection works great when I turn on my computer. After about 30 minutes, my internet connection is lost. When I check my connection, it says that my wifi is on but does not detect any wifi connections near me so I can't even select my router to reconnect. My phone and Roku are still connected just fine though. After I restart my computer, the wifi will work for a little while. What is the issue?

hello,

i am having a problem with a new netgear AC1200 WIFI router Model R6120 and was hoping to get some help. I had a Linksys cicso WRT110 router that went bad last week. I went to Wal-Mart and bought the netgear AC1200. I hooked it up to a dell e6400 latitude running windows 7 pro and I cannot get it to connect to the internet using a DSL modem.

I can see the router when you click on the icon in the lower right corner that displays the wireless connections. I opened the network and sharing center and selected the "set up a new connection or network" and set up a home connection. I am not sure if I did this correctly.
when you open a IE browser to connect to the internet, the netgear routerlogin screen displays. it states that I did not have a connection to the internet and the netgear genie asked if it should create the connection. I responded yes and the genie started doing the work and then displayed something about a PPPoE connection and asked for my signon and password. I did not remember so I called the DSL provider and they gave it to me. I enter these credentials and the genie responded that the credentials were invalid. I contacted the netgear support and that guy was not much help. he tried some things and when it came to entering the username and password for the PPPoE connection and we received the invalid message, he said that it might be a bad router an that I should take it back and get a new one.

my question is - is there something that I am ... Read more

When I undock the laptop by pulling the USB-C cable out (either sleeping beforehand or not sleeping first) then I am getting an intermittent issue where the wifi claims to be disabled. The only way to resolve this is a hard reboot.
Toggling airplane mode doesn't help. Disabling and reenabling the wifi network connection doesn't help. Toggling airplane mode from Fn-PrtScr doesn't help.
It is acting as though the hardware radio is turned off (like when laptops used to come with a hardware radio switch), but with no method to turn it on again.
Looking in the system event log I can see entries from source Netwtw04, Event ID 7012 stating "radio OFF"
Drivers and bios are all up to date.

Any ideas?

I just got a Mac (used) computer and hooked it up to my modem and router. Everything was working fine until I installed a new wireless printer (HP Envy 4520). The wifi is now only working through the printer. Other devices in the house show a wifi signal but it's not working. When I run a diagnostics test it says wifi does not have any problems. I'm assuming what has happened is it's locked into just the DNS for the printer because the network wasn't set up correctly to have multiple devices. I know this is a simple fix for someone who understands networking (but that is not me). Any suggestions?

Running Windows 10 x64 Home Edition Fall Creators Update with the latest updates on a ASUS G74SX-3DE notebook using the latest drivers for Intel 7260-AC Mini-PCIe 802.11ac WiFi + Bluetooth adapter. Prior to Fall Creators Update, everything is working fine. However with Fall Creators Update, connecting or disconnecting from a WiFi network will completely turn the WiFi off as there is no way to turn the WiFi back one except by hibernating and then when it is on the Login screen, the WiFi either will turn on or it will have the WiFi on/off greyed out. In the case of the later,
Anyone knows how to fix this or another way to make the WiFi turn back on without hibernating as I tried disabling and then re-enabling the Intel 7260-AC in Network adapters in Device Manager but it didn't help. Thank you for any help in advance!

Answer:Connecting/Disconnecting WiFi networks turns WiFi off in W10 FCU

Check the properties for the adapter, turn off in power management tab Allow the machine to turn off this device to save power. If you have Fast Startup on by default in power, uncheck it.

I bought my Lenovo T500 last year in summer (2009). It came with a b/g wifi card and I want to upgrade it to Intel Wifi Link 5300 but it seems lenovo.com has stopped selling this card. Hi, I have an Intel wireless adaptor.  I keep getting disconnected from Wifi.  When I reconnect, it never remembers my wifi password.  I had this problem previously but upgrading to windows 8.1 last year solved it.  I have tried all of the fixes for the broadcom wireless adaptor but they don't work including updating drivers, changing b/g settings, changing "allow power manager to turn off this device" etc.  When I try to download the most up to date version of the Intel driver from your website, it tells me it is pre-installed with windows 8.  Please help.  I have spend 6 hours trying to fix this.

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

We have a big issue with Intel Dual Band Wireless AC-7265 driver, When used WPA2-Enterprise profiles pushed by Windows GPO, the wifi card authenticates every second using PMKSA. It is a authentication storm that we see in our wifi APs.This does not happen with Intel AC-7260 tested in more than 400 PCs, different HP models but most of them EliteBook 840 G1, or when the profile is manually created (not pushed from a AD GPO).This issue happens only with EliteBook 840 G2 using 7265 card, only with it. Right now, we have this card in all the last delivered HP Elitebook 840G2.We've tried HP original drivers (HP connection Manager), the Intel last drivers with and without PROset (removing previously HP Connection Manager), and some old Intel drivers too, always with the same result. We know the "every second" authentication happens because we have monitored the WIFI netwok with a "monitor" mode card. The  starting outgoing packets are always originated by the 7265 driver. Also, we see the authentication in the wifi APs (enterprise Netgear APs), because we have syslog, and the any Intel 7265 card that connects, starts sending the 4 way handshake for PMKSA (PEAP 25) wifi L2 proto.

Answer:EliteBook 840 G2 and Wifi Intel AC-7265 issue

We have the similar issue on some particular machines with 2.4 Ghz with the particular network adapter. Working on 5 Ghz there are no issues observed. probably we will send the faulty laptop back to HP for repairs.

My R51 2895-AU3 has a  2100 3b wifi card that works fine. The hmm says I canupgrade with a 2200 bg, 2925 abg, or a 3945 abg. Which is the best/most currentIntel Pro wireless I can use?   And ... any suggestions for a Linux live cd distro thatwill run on this laptop?

Answer:Intel Pro wifi card upgrade for R51

You can't use 3945ABG since it's a mini-PCI-e card, and your machine calls for mini-PCI.If you're keen on Intel, 2200BG would be my preferred choice. Also, IBM (Atheros) b/g and a/b/g card will work just fine in that R51.As for Linux, Ubuntu is always a good place to start IMO.Good luck.

WTF? This is windows 8 to windows 7. How is this still a problem? Does anyone know a solution?

Answer:Copying 50 GB on wifi, 5 hours, connect to lan to speed things up, 16 hours

SMB doesn't handle TCP ack in the file copy stream with large frame sizes very well.

Copying 50GB is going to take time.
just download filezilla and do it over FTP, which on the same lan will yield about a 500% improvement in file copy speed.

You can also try making sure your NIC, and switch support Jumbo frames, so you can transmit larger than 1548byte packets.

I have lumia 1020 recently updated to Cyan. Everything was working just fine until suddenly it couldn't connect to wi-fi. Everytime I tap the network name it gets me to Microsoft. Homepage with no clue of what to do there, nothing like log in or sth related to wi-fi, just the homepage. There are two icons down "skip" and "cancel", when I tap on "skip" it connects to wi-fi but shows below the network name "no internet access". And then, I stopped receiving message notifications on whatsapp, so I can't see new messages until I open whatsapp. I get a message that there is an issue with my phone that prevents me from receiving message notification, and asks me to reboot my phone. Well, frankly, I don't know how to reboot my phone. Hoping I can find help here.

hey guys, I know this is kind of a wierd question.... but here goes anyway...

My friends and i live in a small town, and our houses are all concentrated in a small area of a few blocks around. Anyway, there are no tall structurse or anything, just small houses and we want to setup a Wi-Fi network across those blocks so we are constantly in a "lan party" anyway, I was wondering if there was a way to connect my Wi-Fi card to the roof antenna of my house and amplify the signal somehow... or connect it to anything really and amplify the signal. I'd love to know if there is a way to do this without buying those cheap repeator antennas, and since my roof antenna is huge and high up, I figured it would be the best place to beam out a signal.

Any idea how I could go about doing this???

Thanks guys!

Answer:connecting my wifi card to my roof antenna?

I wouldn't waste your time. Antennas don't need to be huge, they need to be matched to the frequency you are sending/receiving on. Also, there is a ton of loss in the 2.4GHz range with coax, and the signal would be near zero by the time you got it their anyways.

The way most people would set this up is to get a cheap router, weatherproof it, and run an Ethernet cable to it on the roof. You can use PoE so you only need one cable.

Here is an example: http://www.sveasoft.com/articles/armored/

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:

Answer:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

I have a Yoga 13, and I have started to experience the issue I keep finding all over the internet, the wifi keeps dropping, even though it can see the router, it won't connect, I reboot, i get connected for a few seconds then it drops again, sometimes resetting the wireless adapter helps, but again just for maybe a minute, then gone again. I have tried all the suggestions about performance settings, latest drivers etc... So now I would like to replace the realtek card with maybe an intel one, as I no longer have faith in the realtek one. Does anyone know what one would be compatible with the yoga 13?

Answer:Replace Realtek WiFi card with Intel card

Quickest way would be to pop off the back and first check if its a soldered in item. If it is plug-in, then count the pins on the connector and then go find a matching card version. I did that on my Acer laptop, but then, they are pretty much always a plug in thing. For compactness, they may be soldered in on the Y13.

Hey everybody,I installed ubuntu in my e130 but the wifi didn't work. After spending a couple of hours unsuccefully i decided to buy a new wifi card which is properly supported by Linux. I chose the Intel 2230 wich is also mentioned on the Lenovo support site as supported by the e130.Unfortunately my e130 won't start at all with this card. It is saying that i have an unsupported network card installed and have to plug it off right after pressing the power button.I read some other post where they succesfully run the laptop with this card. These information are written on the card:Intel centrino wireles-n 2230Model: 2230bnhmwE130 with Pentium 997, 1.6 ghzAnyone able to help me?Thanks a lot!

Does your N-2230 card have a FRU number on it? If it doesn't then it won't work with your E130, since it is not sourced from Lenovo. For example my T430u's N-2230 have the following FRU information printed on the card. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8449497451/Generic N-2230 card won't work in your E130.

Hey Mcdull,

Lenovo no longer supports intel N5300 but being as they both use PCI-E slots I would suggest you try it and see if your computer recognize the card. Then you would have to use a lower version of the driver version 15.1.0.18.

My computer is running on Windows 7 Professional 32bit. It has worked fine for the last 2 years. But recently, my wifi card has started me giving me problems. It detects the wireless networks but connects to them only for around 10-15 minutes after which the connection is not even visible in the list. Then after 30-40 minutes, it can connect but the same problem is there.

Also, I tried to make my own ad-hoc connections and saved them. These connections do work and my friends are able to connect to it and the connection remained active for hours. I did it to check whether the Wifi card is working or not. It does work but only with the outgoing connections that are made by my computer. The networks that in range and are giving problem with my wifi card are working fine for my friends. So, I guess it is not the network's problem.

When I tried troubleshooting it, it gave the problem 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point'. I also tried installing all different driver versions and rollbacking to the default version for my wireless card but the same problem is there. Although in device manager, It says the device is working properly.

Please help me in solving this problem. Exact name of WiFi Card in Device Manager- Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Answer:Connecting wifi printer to wifi computer

If your laptop has a wireless card (most recent ones do), and you connect to the internet through a router, you can print wirelessly. An explanation (for Vista) click here

Hi, You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue. 1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on. 2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers and restart the unit and check if the light turns on. 3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website. 4) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.  Let us know how it goes!  ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

I wonder if maybe the tech forgot to hook the wireless antennas back up? Or perhaps they accidentally swapped in a different wireless card? Where did you have the work done?

I have an HP Zbook 14. I have had this laptop for almost a year and never had a problem connecting wireless.
The other day, my laptop froze up and was unresponsive. I rebooted it and noticed immediately a message about a hash mismatch, but the laptop continued to reboot. After coming up, I could no longer connect wireless, even though the light is on. Troubleshooting
efforts keeps saying to enable the wireless switch, which it is on.
I have done numerous tasks, disable then enable, press the wireless button on and off. Currently I am hardwired in and thought if I unplugged the Ethernet cable, it would pick up the wireless but it did not.
Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks

Hi all I just got the following message when trying to connect my HP envy 4527 printer wifi with my macbook pro 2016. Can someone send foolproof instructions on how to fix this / what this means?  Is it something to do with my internet speed/provider? If so, I may not be able to change this as I live in rented accommodation. 'Cannot connect to the network XXX. Your device is not compatible with 5GHZ networks.  Select another network then try again.' Thanks

I am currently stationed in Germany, and live in a village that has horrible internet. I cannot stream netflix, hulu, and downloads take several hours.

Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

I have the ability to create a wifi hotspot from my cell phone if this helps.

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

Answer:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.
