I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How to set up SIM card in ThinkPad X220 to go on Cell phone network to go on Internet?

Mariah,1. look at laptop' user guide 2. be sure your laptop is wwan ready, i.e.has wwan antennas3. purchase wwan modem from x220' compatibility list according to your region and mobile carrier network type4. install modem into laptop; look at HMM or service video for your help5. download appropriate wwan modem driver from Lenovo' site and install it.6. If your carrier' network is simless find out on your laptop in Control Panel or download Mobile Broadband application from Lenovo' site, install it and activate your modem in carrier' network. OR in other case insert SIM card into laptop.7. If you prefer Windows connection manager set APN option. OR find out Lenovo Access Connection Manager on your laptop (or download from Lenovo' site), install it, create profile.8. Enjoy

I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

Download inSSIDer and see if there's a neighbouring network that's overpowering your own.

The ThinkPad Battery 19+ (6 Cell Slice - X220, X220T) I've checked the lenovo website. Is it not available? When I add it to the shopping cart, it is crossed out, and labelled "Item Expired". Is it discontinued, or out of stock, or in short supply? And at 230$, it's a bit expensive.

Hi, I'm considering buying a second battery because my current 6-cell (29+ 42T4861) doesn't last more than 6 hours the way I use it. The current battery is in relatively good condition because I used to work while it was plugged in, I don't think the cycle count is greater than 80.  I'm considering the 29++ 9-cell and the 6-cell slice, but I don't know which combination would be the best in terms of battery life.I'm aware that the slice would be more comfortable to use, because the 9-cell sticks out, plus I would have to change batteries every time one discharges. Price wise they are rather similar where I live, considering that I would buy an external battery charger with the 9-cell.  Is there a significant (1-2+ hours) difference between the two batteries, or is it negligable? Thanks in advance, and my apologies if this was asked in the past.

Answer:X220: 6-cell + 9-cell vs 6-cell + slice (6-cell)

damnated, according to PSREF (tabook.pdf) the following batteries are compatible with x220 at present time:ThinkPad Battery 44 (4-cell) 0A36305 ann 06/05/12ThinkPad Battery 44+ (6-cell) 0A36306 ann 06/05/12ThinkPad Battery 44++ (9-cell) 0A36307 ann 06/05/12ThinkPad Battery 19+ (6-cell, Slim External) 0A36280 ann 03/01/11You see 44-series batteries instead of 29-series which are discontinued. As for the battery life look at this data from tabook.pdf also:4-cell (28Whr): up to 4.1 hr;6-cell (62.4Whr): up to 9.2 hr;9-cell (99.9Whr): up to 13.8 hr;external battery (64Whr): up to 9.4 hr;9-cell plus external battery: up to 23.2 hrAs you see 9-cell and external batteries combination is the best. There is no problem to use these batteries together.

I personally use a cable modem with a wireless router to connect my computers and gaming systems to the internet. For some of my games that I play online with my Nintendo Wii I have had problems connecting with my friends online. I read online forums and found that the fix to this problem is for me and my friends have to locate the IP address of our wii, and then go into my router settings and temporarily put the Wii outside of the DMZ while playing the game. I have done this and it works fine.

However I have one friend that uses his cell phone to connect his Nintendo Wii to the internet.

Does anyone know how he can put his Wii console outside of the DMZ using his cell phone. Sorry I don't know what the make and model of his phone is. Does DMZ settings only apply to wireless internet connections? Would using your cell phone to connect to the internet be considered Wired or Wireless internet. Technically there is a cable that runs from the cell phone to the Wii, but i would assume since it is a cell phone it would be considered a Wireless Internet Connection (or Satelitte Internet Connection). I appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have.

Just found out that the phone is a LG Venus and his carrier is Verizon.

If that Helps.

Answer:Internet thru Cell Phone

Well using a Cell Phone would be considered wireless. But i dont think that you can set it outside the DMZ due to the fact that you are not connecting it via a router. It is using the providers service. So i really dont think there is a way to set it up to work like that.

Your best option with that would be to contact the provider and see if there is a way.

Running Windows XP Professional SP3
Have a memory card in my cell phone that I should be able to transfer infomation back and forth to my computer directly without additonal software. When I plug the phone into the USB it configures all the drivers and such and the bubble pops up "Your New Hardware is Ready to Use" but nothing happens. The "Safely Remove Device" green arrow icon is not there, the device is not listed in my computer or Device manager. When I unplug and plug the phone in it makes the connecting beep that all devices make, starts to charge the phone and thats where it all ends.

Answer:Removable Drive/Memory Card/USB/Cell Phone???

Take a look at your phone while you plug it in. There could be some kind of note that it's plugged into a PC, and you'd need to make it communicate with the PC. Last resort would be simple to remove the memory card and insert it directly to a memory card reader...

Fellow Geeks,
I've heard somewhere that other then 802.11g etc technology (which requires a nearby "hotspot"), a laptop can use a special NIC that uses Cell / Satelite technology to connect to the web - anywhere (well, anywhere a cell phone can receive reception).
Does Verizon or Sprint sell these and offer these accounts?
Thanks,

I live in the middle of nowhere, though there is semi-decent cell service at my house.
My question is, would it be possible/practical to replace my dial up connection with a internet capable cell phone, and the appropriate data cable? I'm specifically talking about T-mobile T-zones (the best coverage in my area is T-Mobile).

Answer:Cell phone for internet connection?

From my experience stick with your dial-up connection. It will save you money, and time. Just wait for a proper broadband service to come to you.

You'll have to ask your cell phone provider.  Some have this ability, many don't.  In any event, you will pay extra for this service.

I can get Internet on my cell phone anywhere but not my laptop. Why? and how can I fix this where my laptop can get Internet anywhere like my cell phone. You go to a hotel and they charge you for wi-fi so you can hook up to the Internet with your laptop.

Answer:How can I get my laptop on the Internet like my cell phone

With mobile phones, you more than likely use a data plan. If you do have a mobile phone that supports using a hotspot, as well your service provider allows it, you could set up the hotspot and connect your laptop to that. I believe it uses your own data though. Many providers as far as I know sell dedicated hotspots that you can purchase plans for.

I have a niece who has a pc with Windows XP who would like to be able to connect to the internet through her cell phone, and as I understand this, it can be accomplished by installing a bluetooth card in the pc, and using a cell phone that is bluetooth compatible. Does anyone know if this works? Is it any faster than dial up?

Answer:Connectiong Pc With Wxp Sp2 To Internet Via Cell Phone

Hi DC3,

I tried that last year with lots of problems. You have to have a "data" type connection. Very expensive here vrs standard dial up or even cable modem. They wanted $10/500K downloaded. That would be one night for me. I tried it for a month, but it never connected correctly. That was a year ago so things maybe better now... hopefully cheaper. It was a cool thought, but I opted out.

Good luck,

Rigel

I'm not much into cell phone tech and am happy with my 300i but it's starting to show it's age. My contract is up too so it's time to replace it. I'm on at&t in Colorado and would change networks but I need to keep the same number (business use). With that in mind I'd like a phone that can access the internet so I can check my gmail and web calendar and also access things that are handy on the road like news, weather and maps etc. I don't text much either. Any additional functionality would be handy like reading ebooks, camera, video etc. I don't particularly care about media like mp3 or video. I never use my current phone for playing mp3s and can't see that changing. I also see my internet usage being quite low so what plan would suit me?

I like the flip phone I have now as it's protected and very small but would like a decent sized screen for browsing. I use an online calendar with my wife so just being able to sync isn't as useful as real time checking of dates (we share a studio and need to check the availability before booking it).

As for cost, lowest possible. I'm not into flashy phones so the latest greatest isn't what I'm after. Tech from a while back would probably suit me fine.

What model/plan in your opinion is the best buy for me?

I had purchased a new X220 thinkpad with i5 processor which runs with Windows-7 Professional 32 bit, last week. The problem is that I am unable to connect to the internet through Dial-up with wireless USB modem. The modem is installed very well, but when the web page is being opened, it was throwing an error as "It has hung up dialup connection" and immediately the connection fails and it gets disconnected. The modem is very well compatible with the Windows-7 32-bit as per the internet service providers and when I reported the error, they notified me the connection is being blocked/hung. I tried with different service providers, the problem is same with all. Please do help me in resolving if any one had any idea. Thanks,DT

I'm going on holiday tomorrow to Morocco.

I'll get a local SIM for my mobile (it is an ancient S3 mini). I want to use it to access internet (either tethering using the USB cable or making a WiFi hotspot I don't care) with my PC.

Is there anything I should consider? Do I need to get a data SIM rather than a voice one or it does not matter any more?

Basically, should I get a data SIM (more expensive) or a normal (voice) one? Or is it the same from a computer point of view? Obviously I'll check the rates.

Answer:Pre-emptive help with cell phone internet access

The way I understand what you want to do is that you want to have the phone get internet access from your computer? The phone has WiFi.... if the computer is going to connect to the internet with WiFi, then why can't the phone just connect to the same WiFi? Or is your internet connection to the computer going to be by ethernet (wired) only?

If you want the computer to access internet through the phone, then to make the connection between the phone and the computer, I would recommend the EasyTether app. It will connect the computer to the phone either through a USB cable or through bluetooth. EasyTether has worked great for me and does work on Windows 10. Again, if the phone is connected to the internet by WiFi, then the computer should be able to as well. If not, then you will need a data SIM card for the phone.

Answer:Cell phone mobile internet on a laptop

You will need a USB cable. I am not fimilure with your phone, but when I plug in my Fusic phone it is recognised as a modem by default, I have to go into setting and tell the phone to act as a USB flash drive to transfer music and such, perhaps you have to do the opisite and go into the setting and tell it to act as a modem device.

For about 3 months now my Sanyo SCP-4700 cell phone has been involved with an intermittent problem. When trying to connect to the Internet via Dialer201, a message (Port disconnected due to hardware failure) pops up. After changing ports, port settings, Input/output range settings, and modem settings also memory cards, software (Dialer3), data cables, the problem still persists

When I agreed to a contract with Spinet, in that all calls I make would include data calls, I set up my computer with a clean windows Me image. I then installed Dialer201, then saved this operating system image to two hard drives a CD ROM disk and another storage type disk. At this time I was using a Sprint Quallcomm Kyocera phone.
The Sprint Quallcomm Kyocera phone worked well with this set up and I never had any persistent problem connecting to the Internet. Unfortunately this phone failed after a year and had to be replaced. Like the Kyocera, the Sanyo phone has shown no persistent problem with the operating system I have been using, until three months ago.

In order to remove the possibility that this is a software or an operating system problem, I have restored the original operating system image a number of times and still the problem persists.

When the message; Port disconnected due to hardware failure pops up, the port becomes non active and at this point when trying to connect, Dialer returns message (Could not open Sprint PCS Phone port (COM1)). And from there, the only way to be able to... Read more

I have an LG Alltel AX 490 cell I'm trying to send a Java game to, but I don't have mobile web, which is what all the mobile media uploading websites seem to need. They say to open up your browser and enter a url address. Is there any other way to do this?

Answer:Can you upload files to a cell phone without mobile internet?

Offhand, I'd say yes, by using either a USB cable or Bluetooth transfer. But I do not know the specifics of your phone. Look into the phone's documentation.

If your phone uses additional memory, like SD or microSD memory, then you may also be able to use alternate memory reading devices to place the needed files on the memory chip.

Many times the apps and other various files may need to be specifically designated folders to be used. Again, that is something that the documentation should be able to tell you.

Hi, everybody. As I can find no help with this particular issure anywhere online I'll try posting here. I got the following 1802 failure message twice today on my ThinkPad (Edge E540) without having done anything to it (I know a lot of people get the message when they try to change the network card): 1802: Unauthorized network car dis plugged in - Power off and remove the network card (8086/08B1/0006/0000).(I'm not quite sure about the last numbers - I had to make a shoddy screenshot with a cell phone) I got the failure message twice (turning the laptop off and on again) and then the laptop started without problems. I checked with both Win 8 diagnostics and the Lenovo Solution Center but the status is: laptop's running just fine. All software is up to date (otherwise I might have been looking for a solution there) and, therefore, I'm clueless. My questions are:1) What can cause this particular problem?2) How can  I prevent it from happening? Is there a solution (an easy-to-follow one for the laywoman)?3) Am I supposed to panic right now? Is the unprovoked appearance of this problem a sign that I should backup the whole machine asap and start looking for a new one (which would leave me pissed as my ThinkPad has been in use for meager 9 months)? I'm grateful for any help, piece of advice or insight that you can give me.

Hi Guys,

I have once again run into a problem that seems to plague me and I am at the point where if I can't solve it this time I am going to take a baseball bat and smash my laptop and cell phone into tiny pieces, scatter them around the neighborhood and go out and buy new stuff that actually works and start all over again. Here's the drill:

Laptop: Dell E6501 Latitude
Built in WiFi antennae
running Win 7 Pro with all updates installed

Cell Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3
Has WiFi Mobile HotSpot capability as well as Tethering capability.

I did a search of the archives on this site and per the suggestions just updated the drivers for the WiFi card.

I can activate the Mobile HotSpot function on my cell phone. My laptop sees the SSID for my cell phone but refuses to connect. I get an exclamation point in the system tray over the signal strength that says "no internet access".

This problem has been plaguing me for 5 years. Sometimes I can access the internet from my cell phone via mobile hotspot or tethering and more often than not I can't and I am way beyond fed up. This should not be this hard. If the manufacturers can't make a feature work reliably then they don't need to be putting into a device period!!!!!

I am not in the mood to be doing screen shots of ip config or any other unnecessary nonsense to try and fix this. I want the easiest solution possible. Any suggestions will be appreciated and I will try anything. If this doesn't wo... Read more

Personally, I ordered mine with the four-cell (for around 5-6 hours of battery life when I'm out of the office for just a little while) to keep it under three pounds, AND the nine-cell (for 12-14 hours of battery life) for when I'm at an all-day conference and don't want to lug along the A/C adapter. For the extra two ounces of the nine-cell vs. the six-cell, who cares what it looks like when you've got 50% more battery life?

I need a cell phone number to receive only one text.

Are there services on the internet that offer a cell phone number to receive text for free?

Country of the cell phone number does not matter.

For a Thinkpad T510 with 128gb SSD, i5-540 processor, nvidia 3100m 512 mb discrete graphics, and 4 gb RAM, does a 6-cell battery cut it? How much time should I expect with a 6-cell and with a 9-cell battery? Also, by how much does the 9-cell protrude past the back of the laptop?

Answer:Thinkpad T510 6-Cell vs. 9-Cell Battery

I have a 6 cell with my T510 and I'd say for normal usage (browsing internet on youtube, watching some news clips, reading email, surfing the net and stuff) the usual time I get on performance setting is around 2 hours.  If intend to take this out and use it for a day, 2 hours certainly won't cut it.

I am visiting Holy Land in June. Unfortunately, my Tracfone will not work outside the USA, so no use bothering getting a SIM card for that.

I would like to know what are my alternatives, i.e., renting an Israeli cell phone online (there are many companies online), just don't know which is safe and reliable and honest.

However, I have an OLD Verizon/Motorola cell phone that is dead and hadn't used for years. Wondering if that would work, but that means, I have to re-activate my Verizon account which I dread doing, plus I lost the charger that goes with the phone.

I will only need phone for 14 days approx.

I could also post an ad on craigslist here wanting to rent their cell phone for 2 weeks, that will be compatible and will take an Israeli SIM card that I can purchase at the airport there.

My problem is weird, but hope someone can offer an opinion.

THANK YOU.

PS - Can you rent an iphone? Just thought I'd ask. Thanks again.

Answer:Renting an Israeli Cell Phone (or buying an Israeli SIM card)?

Hi,
Have you thought about just buying a pay-as-you-go cell phone on arrival and using that for two weeks? I don't know the big store names in Israel but I'm sure you can find that info?

When my family and I visit the USA for two or three weeks every two or three years we go to Walmart on day 1 and buy two of their cheapest pay-as-you-go cell phones. Normally about $20 or so inc $10 free credit.
If they don't work next time we're in USA we don't waste time trying to reactivate etc, just another quick trip to Walmart.

Dear all, would like to inquire if X220 will operate with two external monitor? I'm ok to close the lid of my X220.The 4337 docks support VGA and DVI, will both work together? What's working:- I have been using x220 screen with another external monitor through VGA connection.- Connecting Dell 2340L direct to VGA works with X220 screen, not with 2 external monitor. What's not working:- Recently got a Dell 2340L which contains only VGA and HDMI, which I thought HDMI would work with an adaptor (HDMI to DVI) port - no response although the Windows 7 detects external monitor display.

Hello,The laptop in question will not charge with the above mentioned dock when it previously did. If you shut down the mahcine and turn it back on when docked it works, but after this point if undocked and docked again it seems to lose it's ability to charge via the dock giving the "plugged in but not charging" message on the power system icon from the taskbar. As it stands the laptop can be charged by the AC port on the back and as mentioned when given a power cycle on the dock. The above issue happens on several docks with different power supplies. The laptop is no longer in warranty and it is possible to get this sent back and repaired (paying for the service) if that is an option. This is greatly inconvenient for the user affected and is causing disruption daily.

I had a battery  (the original one) for about 2 years of usage. About three weeks ago from nowhere, the battery had crash, from 6 hours of  working the time split in half and in one week, he give failed completely. I just bought a new one from an online shop from my country. I hadn't formatted it yet (let to make a fluctuation from 0 to 100%), but I used it and sometimes my laptop is closing from nowhere. I would like to know if there is a problem with my laptop or with my charging... The battery model is 42T4940.  Technology Lithium Ion. No, that sleeve will not fit the X220.You would want this one, ThinkPad X61/X60 Tablet Sleeve Part number: 41U3142. Here it is again from Amazon, X61 tablet sleeve at amazon. Keep in mind that sleeve will have to be taken off when ever you are using your tablet in Laptop mode.I only use a sleeve when transporting tablet, and it mostly comes down to personal preference.Hope you find something you like.

ok like an idiot i was trying to get free software off bitlord and ended up with a virus instead. all i knew was my computer was being way too slow and i cant use my internet which should be working according to my network connections and the cable modems green lights. so i followed your antimalware guide - which was saved to a usb drive just in case this happens - as much as i could without a connection, got rid of more than a few viruses/trojans, and now my computer IS much faster but still will not connect...so i try system restore! and everything works smoothly up until the screen after the calendar which asks that you save/close any open documents/windows where the next button will not work. i did as much searching as i could with a cell phone but could not manage to find a solution so here i am to bother yous and i would greatly appreciate your help.

I have a brand new lenovo R61i 7650-E8G. I have uninstalled some of the preistalled free-trial software (including antivirus software).  When I try to establish a vpn connection via Windows vpn I get a bluescreen with the following message: stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, *0xA74CC5D8*, 0x00000000). Also, when I try to connect to the internet through my cell phone I get a bluescreen with the following message (both with bluetooth and usb cable):stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, *0xA62DC5D8*, 0x00000000). I receive the bluescreen every time, the number *0x________* is different from time to time.  With my previous laptop (DELL Inspiron 6400) I did not experience these problems and windows vpn connection and internet connection through cell phone worked without any problems. I am confused what to do? Please help..

Answer:bluescreen 0x0000008E when try to establish vpn connection or internet connection using cell phone

Hi, unfortunately I can't give you any advice, because I'm stuck with exactly the same problem. I've tested it with different VPN Types (PPTP, L2TP) and different VPN-Servers without any success. The VPN is established successfully, but when Windows recieves it's network configuration it stops with a BlueScreen and 0x0000008e. According to your cell phone issue, it seems that it is only related to the mechanism that assigns network settings provided by ppp, and not by the network drivers. It can be reproduced by using WLAN and LAN with chipsets and device drivers from different vendor. I hope that someone from Lenovo Support Team reads this posting.Message Edited by flaiti on 10-23-2008 03:59 AM

Hi there, I recently bought a ThinkPad x220 with a 9-cell battery, thinking that it would help me get through the day without a charger. However, it seems like the battery is quickly deteriorating. It's been around a month since I purchased it, and the battery stat shows it's had 18 cycles of charge and discharge. I've made sure to never drain the battery down to 25%.  The capacity is reported to be at 97.4% of design capacity! Another laptop I had from Dell only dropped down to similar figures after a year. Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to mitigate? Or is this battery flawed in its production? Answers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi nzguy, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Dear All,I am facing this problem. I have just purchased a new genuine Lenovo 9-cell battery for my 3 year old X220.  It is verified with the Lenovo power manager and all relevant battery information were displayed correctly. However, the battery is being charged at constant 0.17A and taking forever to charge up.  The battery reset procedure was aborted after 24 hours. When I put my original 6-cell battery inside and the charging Amp varies according to the level of the battery. I have tried downgrading BIOS, removing Lenovo Power Manager and driver. There is no improvement. The vendor was kind enough to let me test the new 9-cell battery on other units of X220, X230 and it performed normally: the charging Amp varies according to the level of battery left.  Therefore, the battery is not at fault here. Can you share any experience and solution? Thanks.Best regardsEric

Hello,

eBags has a tool on their web site called the Laptop Bag Finder that let's you type in the dimensions of a laptop and it will return compatible cases.  You might want to measure your X220 with the various batteries installed, type the dimensions in, and see what comes back as a result.

I got this laptop a couple of months ago and since the first charge the battery has always lasted 5 to 6 hours. I was told by some people that the battery needed full charge/discharge cycles in order to achieve full capacity, but I am still getting 6h at most of the 9 cell battery opposed to 14h as advertised. I am running Linux, but I get the same duration in Windows. If I activate extreme performance on the Lenovo tool I can get up to 8h but effectively turning the laptop into half the machine I paid for. Are there any recommendations?

Answer:X220 9 cell battery lasts 6 hours

I'm disappointed too. I get about 4 hours on a 6 cell battery. It is possible to get long battery life but it requires extreme compromises.

i ordered my x220t yesterday after much consideration . visually.. I HATE HOW THE BATTERY LOOKS sticking out from the bottom, i dont mind it sticking out from the back.. just not the bottom. however i do love the specs of the system. this battery needs to be worked on. so even tho i bought this system.. i call on lenovo to make a new battery for this system that is flush to the bottom of th system and offers the same battery strength as the ugly one.  i would buy that in a heartbeat. SO PLEASE!

Answer:lenovo x220 tablet 6 cell battery

Unfortunately what you're asking for isn't possible as a physically larger battery will always have a higher capacity than a larger one assuming they both use the same technology. There is a 3-cell battery for the x220t that fits flush in the x220t but of course it only has half the capacity of the 6-cell battery.

Hello everybody, this is my first post on this forum. I want to buy a X220, but I am still uncertain between the X220 and the new Sony Vaio Z (2011 model). I would like to know if anyone of you has used the X220 with the 4 cell battery and how much was the runtime. Technically, with the 4 cell, the X220 weights 2.95 pounds, but will it last for at least 5 hrs? With the 9 cell, the weights goes up a lot, to 3.6 pounds, and the real runtime, I've seen on this forum, is no more than 8-9 hrs. Can you give me feedback on this? ThankS!

Answer:X220 4 cell Battery ifetime and WEIGHT options

I usually get less than 5 hours with a 6 cell battery, so I wouldn't count on a 4 cell lasting that long. Of course, it will depend on what you're doing, but I'm using web browser on WWAN and nothing cpu or graphics intensive.

hello, got this new thinkpad i series pIII 750, model 1161-A96, it appears that the built in ethernet card at the rear is diabled.

tried to seach the card via install new hardware but it is not detected. tried to do it manually using the downloaded driver from the website but this did fix it either.

the bios has no option to enable this.

any ideas on how to get this working...

Answer:Thinkpad network card

If there definitely isn't an option in the BIOS for it, and all the normal ways of doing it in Windows don't work either, it may be a faulty port. Just check in Device manager first though that there isn't an unidentified device lurking somewhere as that may be it.

If not, as it is a brand new laptop take it back to the dealer and get them to check it out for you.

Greetings all. I've been having connectivity issues with my Thinkpad Yoga 11e. I'd be online and then network dropped in the next instance and the computer was having problems reconnecting to the wifi signal. I'd say it's an internet issue except no other device in the home (iPhones, iPad, Kindle, HP work laptop) don't experience this problem.  To combat this, I opened my machine up, saw I had an Intel 7260NGW, went to Amazon and purchased the same model. I'm not looking for an upgrade, I'm looking for fewer dropped connections.  Fast forward to this evening and I get the "1802: Unauthorized Network Card is plugged in - power off and remove the network card (8086 / 0881 / 8086 / C070)". How do I have compatibility issues if I bought the same model card? And what card can I get to replace the one I have if not the same model?  Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!

Hi, I ordered myself a Gigabyte Atheros 5802 Wireless Draft-N network card from OxfordTech, along with a third antenna to install into my Lenovo ThinkPad SL-300 "NS64YMN".. Unfortunately I didn't check whether it would be some issues regarding replacing the wifi card inside ThinkPad SL-300 before I placed my order.. Now I'm sitting here with my new antenna and card, but I don't really understand how to replace the Intel 5100 card? For me it makes no sense whatsoever to not offer a somewhat easy replacement of the wireless card? But for some awkward reason this simple task seems almost impossible on the ThinkPad SL-300? We've got easy access to the WWAN, TurboMemory, it's also a somewhat easy access to the CPU, but no the wireless card nor it's antennas? That's somewhat a huge disappointment for me.. Is there anyway to replace the wireless card without ripping the entire machine into hundred pieces?

The HMM for our SL300 is available from Lenovo Support page. I gives you the proper procedure for replacing the wireless card. Unfortunately the link isn't working properly. It states "File not found".

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 11e - 1802 Unauthorized Network Card error

Hi,

Historically, this may be the most common question here on the forums.

In order to pass the BIOS whitelist a card must be a listed model AND have a listed Lenovo FRU number.  As you've discovered, a "generic"  7260 won't pass.

The card models and FRUs are shown in the laptop's system service parts list.  There are several different Yoga 11e machine types so I can't link a specific partst list.  You'll find them here:

I'm using my phone to tether to my laptop using a USB cable to share my phone's internet connection..but every time i connect to the phone, it will prompt to ask if I should make "Network" as a work, home or public network. Why does it make a new network profile for the same hotspot? it will keep adding the network, now i have tons of network profile "network 2" "network 3" "network 4"..please help me.i want it to remember the network.

Answer:new network name everytime i tether my phone's internet to my laptop

Fatinurain, welcome to the windows 7 forum.

The main reason that you get that prompt is that each time you connect your phone to your computer, the phone might have a different IP from the phone's isp.

You might just have to live with it and do what it says,.

Answer:SSD or SSH on Thinkpad X220?

Hi,1. use any drive you want - 2.5", sata II/III (x220 main drive bay utilizes sata III interface), 7 (!) mm high in order to fit into the drive bay with rubber rails. I didn't use hybrid drives but know successfull installation examples of such drives. In case of using SSD remove a couple sw on the laptop - Lenovo Airbag Protection and RapidBoot.2. x220 works with 2x8 gb (16 in total), PC3-10600 1333MHz DDR3, CL9, non-parity, 204-pin SO-DIMM sticks. But it works with PC3-12800 1600MHz memory type too, 2x8 gb (if BIOS version is priore of 1.29)

Hi I am replacing my laptop and mobile phone, and would like to be able to make/receive calls/texts on a laptop with my mobile phone SIM card installed. Is this possible with the X220? If so, how do I do it? Do I need extra equipment/software? I understand it would have to be kept on a lot, and that I would need a suitable SIM from a mobile phone network. A lot of the online answers to this question seem to contradict each other. Many thanks for your help.

Answer:X220 SIM to use laptop as mobile phone

I used my phone's SIM card in my computer to test HSPA for an hour.  My intention was only to test it because I was evaluating different broadband technologies.  Nevertheless, AT&T sent me an email the next day warning me that my service plan didn't allow my SIM card to be used in a broadband card and that my data plan would be shut off if I continued to use the SIM card in the laptop.  Thankfully by that point I had already finished my tests. Another alternative you might consider is to tether your phone.  Android can do it.  Windows Phone 7 (my phone) doesn't officially support it, but several models have the feature built in by the manufacturers.  I don't know about iPhone.  Before I got WWAN on my computer, I frequently tethered without being hassled by AT&T.

I have a ThinkPad R40-2723-58U. BIOS 1.33, Internal Embedded Controller 1.14, Windows XP Pro SPx. Any external PCMCIA wireless cards work, but when I add the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Internal Mini PCI Card, i get the error message, "Unauthorized Network Card detected..." and the computer does not boot. I have the latest versions of the BIOS, Embedded Controller etc for this model. What are my options to make this card work? Best Regards,Baked

Answer:Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Internal Mini PCI Card on ThinkPad R40-2723-58U

I looked at the specs for your unit and your systemboard will not handle that card. Even with the BIOS and EC updated, you will need to use a different card. If you have the FRU for that wireless card, I can look it up for you. Refer to the Lenovo support page below to look up all the FRU numbers for the wi-fi cards that are compatible with your unit. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=272358U then look under "Parts Information" Regards,Mark

My e531 has a built-in slot for a SIM-card under the battery. However, if I insert my smartphone's card to enable mobile internet access by using my phone's mobile surf subscription the option doesn't show up in the list of available ways to connect. When I purchased the laptop I was stupid enough to believe that there was nothing more I would have to do than slipping my existing SIM-card into the slot, which obviously isn't the case :-/ Will I actually have to cough up even more money to buy and install something complicated to enable this mobile internet feature?! Mind you, I'm not a computer wizard, so keep your replies nice and simple ;-)

So my 2 year contract has been up for my cell phone, but my iPhone 4 is in absolute perfect working order. Of course, every time I have to call Verizon Wireless for any questions, they like to tell me that I am eligible for a new upgrade.rolleyes The last thing I want to do is upgrade (and pay $300) just so I could get that obnoxious 'Siri' voice with the iPhone 4S. On top of that, I pretty much despise Apple as a company based on my own experiences with their products and particularly their support. On top of that, I can't stand that when you buy anything Apple, they make it very difficult to use it with anything non-Apple...including their itunes songs (which I stopped buying about 3 years ago in favor of Amazon's mp3's).

SO, now with the announcement of the Apple iPhone 5, I decided to go out there and see what else is just as good or better than an iPhone.

In my research, I found the Samsung Galaxy S3, but that's a droid and I'm not a droid fan, which is why I went with the Apple.

The other one I found that I Want! and will definitely buy if it's as good as it looks is the Nokia Lumia 920, which will be Windows 8 based: http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia920/ Typically, I don't get excited about phones, but this thing, based on specs and ability, looks awesome. Not to mention its awesome looking.:drool The problem is Verizon has traditionally not carried the high end Nokia or windows based phones.

Answer:What cell phone do you want?

iPhone 5 basically is slimmer and has a bigger screen without HD that Android has been doing for years. If I didnt have all these paid for apps on my iPhone then I would go Android at this point. The iPhone 5 brings very little to the table this round.

Question: Cell Phone

Hello. The device driver for my phone has automatically downloaded to my computer.

What program do I go to to access the media on my phone?

Thanks for your response
Bye
SC

Answer:Cell Phone

Windows Explorer, normally. Once the driver is installed you should be able to connect your phone to your computer via USB cable and the computer should see it as an additional drive.

Question: Cell Phone FAX

My daughter and her husband are moving to the boonies. They don't want a telephone land line but he needs to be able to FAX . Is there a machine that he can insert a typed sheet and put his cell phone on it and FAX?

Answer:Cell Phone FAX

Well, I have never used cell based broadband internet access......but Sprint and Cingular both have mobile broadband cards for laptops....

I would figure if they have cell phone service where they are moving he could use a laptop and an all in one printer/scanner/fax to send via the laptop and cell service.........

Windows 8 reminds me of a cell phone or a gizmo to put in your front pocket. When I sit down to my main computer that is what I expect "A Computer", not an oversize cell phone.

Answer:I don't want another cell phone for my PC's OS

I often use PC Anywhere to connect to other machines in our building via the network to do various tasks. I also use it for off-site machines with dial-up. Has anyone tried this with a cell phone? We use Verizon wireless and can get online with the cell phone now. I have not had any luck with it thus far with the cell. Any comments, suggestions? Thanks all and merry xmas.

Answer:Cell phone and PC Anywhere
