X1C - Ericsson H5321gw Mobile WWAN - service provider?

Question: X1C - Ericsson H5321gw Mobile WWAN - service provider?

Hello All,

As we are all aware by now that we did not receive what we thought we were purchasing (GOBI) as far as mobile access is concerned (not to mention being told that the memory and SSD were upgradeable at time of purchase - before the month+ delays)...

Does anyone know EXACTLY what provider will work with the X1 Carbon's H5321gw PCIe card? I have read on various boards that AT&T is the only provider - but I find it hard to believe that Lenovo would limit this - given the current quality/service issues.

Any ideas? THANKS!

Preferred Solution: X1C - Ericsson H5321gw Mobile WWAN - service provider?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,i have WWAN Ericsson H5321gw with LTE sim card in my laptop:TYPE 34**-*** S/N R9-*****Will I be able to use LTE on this WWAN card or i have to completely remove and mount different one ? Coud anybody propose suitable WWAN for above type of laptop? CheersMariusz

Answer:WWAN Ericsson H5321gw

Hi,x1c gen1 (type 34xx) laptops support half (!) sized mini pci-e wwan card only. LTE card you might get (doesn't matter its model) will be definitely full sized (in case of the mini pci-e form factor) or m.2 type. So it can't be fitted into this laptop.Remove serial number from the post for your privacy

I am upgrading to the T440s which didn't come with a WWAN. My old T430s has this, am I able to unplug it from the t430s, connect it up in the t440s, install drivers and drive away? Is there anything else I can do? I don't want to open it up if it doesn't. Thanks

Answer:Will Ericsson H5321gw wwan module work with T440s?

No, it doesn't work, because the H5321gw is a mPCIe module, while the T440s already uses the newer M.2 standard for the WWAN cards.

I just bought a Ericsson H5321GW 3G card for my Lenovo Carbon X1 (3444-2HU).But I seem to miss the two cables, AUX and MAIN, to connect the card with.Any ideas what my next step is? Buy these two cables myself? And ones bought, how/where to connect them to? I add a picture of the actual WWAN card with the motherboard: CLICK for the IMAGE (opens in new tab) Of course I first checked the documentation on how install the WWAN card, but there it seems like the cables are already there.. Any help would be really welcome. Thanks and have a great weekend all!

No, but how practically useful your WWAN 3G card will be depend on what frequency bands are used for 3G by the various Wireless Braodband service providers in RSA. Cheers, Bill

There is an error in the Lenovo drivers [7.x] for the Ericsson h5321gw UMTS module.Symptoms on Windows 7 x64:UMTS is working fine. When you connect a vpn ipsec connection though the UMTS , the internet connection (and the vpn as well) gets unstable and has a packet loss of 30% to 50%. Solution:Install the UMTS drivers in the NDIS 5.0 mode on Windows 7. (The only problem is, that the system boot takes about 1 minute longer with the ndis 5 drivers).Further Reading: Message 5: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Outlook-Exchange-connection-unstable-on-T52... Howto form the Lenovo Forum:Force the installation to install Ericsson's vista driver instead of win7 driver. Vista driver is NDIS 5. Installation can be done.-> extract the Ericsson drivers package but don't let it install the driver. There should be extracted a setup.exe file-> do the installation with command: setup.exe /zFORCEVISTAThis helped for us.Tip:If you want to install the win7 driver back, it can be done with command: setup.exe /zFORCEWIN7Otherwise using the setup.exe will install the vista ndis 5 when since it once have been told to to install it by /zFORCEVISTA I hope, Lenovo can solve this issue quickly. Greetings

Answer:Error with Ericsson h5321gw and IPSEC VPN-Connections

Well, sad news everyone! I have spoken to the Lenovo support today. They told me, that there is an will be no solution for this problem. The responsibility lies with Ericsson and I should contact them for a solution. As expected, Ericsson told me, that any driver issues are in the within the support of the manufacturer. The Lenovo support said, that they can not identify this issue as a fault, because the vpn functionality is not a necessity for the WWAN card. My opinion is, that a business notebook should be capable to make stable vpn connections over WWAN. The support policy and behavior of Lenovo in this case is just a bad joke. It feels like the third class manufacturer with a third class product and a lousy support. The Thinkpad was some time ago a business class product, this has now degraded to a badly supported consumer product, that feels overpriced for the sold functionality. Update on my troubleshooting: This stability issue occurs only with the h5321gw module. I did test a Gobi 3000 as well and the Internet connection and the VPN did work perfectly. So I am convinced that it is clearly the driver for the Ericsson card.

Or some of these modem can be lock (for example just to work in USA) and some unlock?I would like to buy for example in USA, and I am not sure, that modem will be also working in Europe. I have to be 100% sure.  Please for help.  Best Regards, Lucas

That card is not carrier-locked, so is potentially able to work with any 3G carrier that supports BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) access and operates on the bands supported by the card.

However, not all 3G carriers support BYOD, so if you have expectations of using the card with specific carriers, you would need to determine if their access polices would allow you to do that.

Hallo!Does anybody know: When using Thinkpad Edge E330 (3354BJG) with either Windows or Ubuntu, there are several issues. First H5321gw is always offline, if UEFI booth is disabled - even in Windows.Turning on the Both(UEFI/LEGACY)-Mode makes it work in Windows. On Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Network-Manager will detect the card always. In Legacy mode it cannot connect to it, either. With "Both" or UEFI, it can connect to service provider "drei (Austria)" (Hutchison) sometimes, but the connection will drop immediately after a timespan of about 1 second to 15 seconds. I guess these are BIOS-Bugs - latest available BIOS and Ericsson Firmware have already been installed.Shouldn't the wireless switch work (F9) even in legacy mode?

The WWAN was working perfectly with Win7 before the Win10 upgrade. Afterwards, none of the Ericsson driver versions work. I tried removing anything related to the drivers and reinstalling, but no luck with installing. The "USB controller" and "geolocation sensor" drivers seem to install fine, but the network driver just repeatedly states that it can't find the right driver. From what I know, the INF files seem to be missing the right IDs. The problem seems similar to: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/no-mobile-broadband-on-x1-after-update-to-Win... Tried the firmware utility, but it also gives an Initialization failed error and stops. Any ideas? Compatibility settings won't help. Also lost the Fn+F5 switching capability, now it just goes straight into aeroplane mode. Even after upgrading the Hotkey features it doesn't work right while all the other keys do what they're supposed to... (edited driver information specifics)

Answer:W530: Problem with Ericsson H5321gw & hotkeys after upgrading Win7 to Win10

Ok, I'll reply myself. It took a whlie to figure it out and now it has worked for a whlie. It seems there are some general issues in Windows 10 broadband support and how the new activity center or connection selector works. I still had the original hard drive with Windows 7 installed so I booted from it and installed the H5321 gw firmware update. It mentions only Windows 8 and 8.1 but it worked fine. Afterwards booting to Windows 10, with the Win10 driver already installed, it just worked. So, it is a firmware quirk after all. The upgrade didn't work from Win10, it only showed "initialization failed" even if started in compatibility mode. Now also GPS seems to be correctly installed and Maps found the location when I was outside. I just can't find a program to show the actual coordinates to really prove it working. After successful driver installation I had a number of problems with the WWAN connection itself. Probably because of all the trying and playing around with the drivers involved. In the end, it always showed the operator and signal strength but wouldn't connect. When I uninstalled the Lenovo drivers, it immediately connected even though it showed an exclamation mark in the device manager. Booting an reinstalling the driver set seems to have fixed it for now. The missing "good old Fn+F5 featurity" is bugging me as the Windows 10 seems to be buggy in itself and haven't found a shortcut for the menu yet. As a matter of fact the activi... Read more

Hi there, I was looking through the parts lists for my T420s (4174-P4G) and noticed here : http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/gbweb/LenovoPortal/en_GB/catalog.workflow:show-categ... http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&DocID=PD024213 That the H5321gw clearly comes up as a part for the T420s  Is this a mistake or is this card in the whitelist in our BIOS ? As this card actually has proper Windows 8 drivers and I have one laying around, wondering if I should try putting it in or not.

Looking in the parts manual I am able to find the following:
Ericsson Mobile Broadband Module F5521gw, with FRU Number: 60Y3279

The whitelist will require that not only the card be on there, but it is a Lenovo FRU. You are able to tell this best by ensuring the FRU number is listed physically on the card. I believe the card you are referencing can go into the T430s. Now of course, you can still give it a go and see if it'll work. If does not you'll get something like an 1803 error.(Not 100% on the error code.) But it will tell you to remove it.

Answer:Change service provider for the Mobile Broadband connection for Lenovo SL300 ?

hi, I am also having the same problem. Actually, they have the Telenor SIM card in it and if you need to change the service provider, you have to open the correct part and insert the new SIM. I'm moving to Denmark and would need to change the service provider. I will inform you if I manage to open and change the new service provider, btw, if you happen to do it, plz inform me. You can check how to open the WAN chip hatch here (I extraced these pages from SL300_hardware_maintenance_manual). However, we have to be sure if your WAN device is operator-locked (I mean locked to Telenor) or not? Tomorrow, I am going to call Lenovo Sweden.Message Edited by rakusson on 05-06-2009 03:15 AM

Having E320 (1298-3RG) with currently available driver version 6.4.1.6 from 08 Jul 2011 from Lenovo support site there seems to be incomplete mobile operator data for Finland. Specifically, my operator Saunalahti utilizes Elisa network and is actually the part of Elisa company. The problem is the current driver from Lenovo doesn't recognize SIM card automatically and manual setup offers just single possible item in the list for Finland - Elisa. Saunalahti has its own MNC (21, Elisa has MNC 05), and such manually edited connection (replacing with the right AP settings) is detected as roaming, which works but has two major issues: Every time a user has to accept roaming warning dialog before connection is actually made (Saunalahti always been on Elisa network thus the setup is NOT actually roaming)Automatical WLAN-WWAN connection switching doesn't work, probably due to roaming issue with (it just silently fails without roaming dialog).Tried with two Saunalahti SIM cards with the same result, both having unlimited data plan and working fine. BTW Toshiba has newer v.6.5.x.x drivers according to http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/.Could someone provide the hints how to fix these issues, maybe editing the driver configuration file(s) or has a link to the latest F5521gw driver that will work in pair with Lenovo Access Connections, thanks!

I have a X220 Tablet with the Ericsson F5521gw WWAN? option. It seems to connect just fine, however after 30 mins - 3 hrs, it always disconnects from the mobile network. A red cross appears in Access Connections, and the Windows 7 network icon shows that it is "connected" but there is "no internet access". It is impossible to reconnect using either Access Connections or the Windows tool. If I try, it gives me an error about not being able to find the network. If I try Fn + F5, I sometimes can turn the WWAN off but not back on, and sometimes I cannot even turn it off. None of this helps me reconnect. The only way to be able to reconnect is to shutdown + turn back on / restart / sleep + wake. One interesting thing I've noticed is that the mobile network makes a difference. Using the "3" network (which I'm on a contract for), it disconnects after 30mins - 3 hrs. However, if I swap the SIM card to a Telstra network prepay card, it can hold the connection much more reliably. I've only noticed that it dropped the connection once after about 3 hrs. On subsequent testing, leaving the computer on overnight etc, it seems to stay connected to Telstra. I've tried the following trouble shooting steps without any success:- I verified the correct orientation of the SIM card on these forums- I've uninstalled access connections / used earlier versions of the Ericsson driver- I've reimaged the computer using the Lenovo factory install DVDs- I've asked "3" for a new SIM card to... Answer:X200T and Ericsson F3507G WWAN card

Hi James Try taking your sim card out of the PC, and place it into a 3G mobile phone, and see if you can browse a web page. You will need to configure the mobile phone internet settings (eg APN) for the Vodaphone network. I have been looking at the AT commands over the weekend and I doubt there is anything you have done to permanently change the settings on the modem that will prevent you accessing the internet. However I am not an expert with the AT commands, and I may be wrong. Is there a pin number on the sim card? Did you inadventely put a pin on the sim card when you were playing with the AT commands? You can check if there is a pin number when you place the sim card into your mobile. Hope this helps. Regards Mark

I have a ThinkPad S430 with a WWAN card preinstalled. The machine came with Windows 7, but I've actually wiped it and installed Win 8.1 However, I never managed to get the WWAN to work. When I enter the device manager I see some random flashes / updates and occasionally a device shows under "Network adapters" called MbmLowExt.It has a yellow mark giving Code 45 "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer" and sometimes Code 10 "This device cannot start" (depending if the device is shown or not).I googled this problem for ages and found a lot if similar cases, however, none of the proposed solutions fixed my issue.I have installed the newest driver version from the Lenovo site (8.0.10.1 ? dated 20 Jun 2013 - g7wo09ww.exe). This driver should actually work without a problem ? however it doesn?t.Interestingly enough the driver details of MbmLowExt show a different version (8.0.8.5 dated 07.DEC.2012).I have also tried to upgrade the firmware using the update tool I found on the Lenovo site when looking for S430. However, the tool always failed claiming it could not find the device. I have tried a huge number of different combinations to solve this issue. Old and newer driver versions ? the compatibility trick shown here:http://www.bibble-it.com/2012/03/17/f5521gw-wwan-install-on-windows-8-cp-lenovo-x220trebooted my machine several times and tried the firmware update with all different driver versions and even without driver version... Oh no, didn't I write my WWAN-Card works cleanly after the lenovo support repaired it in my previous post?! After a long time (3-5 month) of not using it it has a strange behaviour now I cannot find out the reason for: After connecting to my broadband carrier of choice (Vodafone) the connection get disconnected after ~3 min. because the WWAN-Card (Ericsson F5521gw) becomes disabled state. But why? I could not find out a feature/setting to explain this behaviour. Sure, I installed several lenovo updates since the time the WWAN-Card worked properly and the state I got now. My dial up settings didn't change: General/Phone number:Phone number: *99# Options/Redial Options:Redial attempts: 3Time between redial attempts: 1 MinuteIdle time before hanging up: NeverIdle threshold: <disabled>Redial if line is dropped: true I don't think it's up to the dial up settings as the WWAN-Card becomes disabled after ~3min. of connection.Driver Version: 5.28.4.0 When I turn it on again by Fn-F5 it connects immediately but just till it becomes disabled again after those ~3 min. I searched the forum already but I could not find similar problems yet.UPDATE: I found a similar entry in the forum here:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Wireless-WAN-adapter-keeps-turnig-off-F... Any hints? Cheerskyoshiro

Answer:WWAN-Card (Ericsson F5521gw) disconnects after ~3min.

I got it! I reinstalled the former Mobile Broadband Drivers (Version 6.4.1.6) and everything is running fine now.  In Device Manager the modem is still listed with Driver Version: 5.28.4.0. But this seems to be okay.

Hello, does anyone have similar problem with installation of an ericsson H5321 wwan card? The wwan card was ordered from the official lenovo dealer. The card wasn't installed when I ordered the laptop, but the card itself was delivered separately. The wwan should be on whitelist according to lenovo list, but... The problem is that bios doesn't allow the computer to startup. The bios generates an error: "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in.... (0BDB/1926) Computer could be started only without the wwan. On my understanding this problem is related somehow the whitelist in the bios. X230 Tablet, wwan upgradableModel: 3437-2YGBios: GCET22WW (1.11) Wwan card:FRU: 60Y3297Part no: 03A36319Manufactured: 2012-06-17 Does anyone have a solution?

Answer:X230 Tablet and Ericsson H5321 wwan problem

Solution wasn't so simple... The Lenovo support changed a new Gobi 3000 wwan card. That was ok to the bios and laptop was running ok on windows 7. Everything worked well at least in Finland. So the Ericsson wwan card will not work current bios version. This is not mentioned on product catalog. The support changed this board without any costs. Windows 8 problems: Then I changed from win7 pro to win8 pro... Gobi 3000 drivers are not currently on Lenovo website, but you could find the drivers from other website. Drivers called LenovoGobi3kSetup.exe seem to be working ok on Windows 8. You'll find the link from the community to those drivers. ....but! It works until you rotate the display top of the keyboard. Then mobile broadband is disabled and there is no way to turn on this feature. Windows 8 troubleshoot says that the wwan switch is disabled and advices to enable the switch. But there is no any switch for wwan module!!! On windows 7 will work similary but you can switch wwan on when change the display rotation. Settinga are as well in FN+F5 button. But it will not work on windows 8 similary. It just disables all wifi actions. Solution for wwan switch enabling: Just install think vantage access for windows 7! It will give some errors, but ignore them. It will install finally and then you can switch wwan module again on. On my laptop this seem to be working now ok. I'm using think vantage acces only to enable the wwan modul... Read more

I have an X200T which was shipped with a Vista Business 64bit preload. The PC has a Ericsson F3507G WWAN card installed. Under Windows Vista I can successfuly connect to the internet with Virgin Mobile Broadband. I have recently upgraded the system to Windows 7, and have installed the Windows 7 drivers for the Ericsson F3507G, along with version 5.42 of Lenovo Access Connections, and the required Power Manager software and the Hot Key drivers. Access connections can sucessfully detect the WWAN card, and it can pick up the 3G Mobile Network (it picks the network up as "Yes Optus" rather then "Virgin Mobile"). However when I attempt to connect to the Network, I get an error stating the service provider cannot be found. All my network settings such as APN are correct. I tried removing the Windows 7 drivers, and replaced them with the Windows Vista Drivers. When the Windows Vista Drivers are used, Access Connections picks up the mobile network as "Virgin Mobile", and I can sucessfully establish a connection to internet. Just to note Virgin Mobile uses the Optus Network in Australia. I have come to the conclusion there is something wrong with the Windows 7 drivers for the Ericsson F3507G device, or there is some obscure setting which needs to be changed. Does anyone else have a similar experience, or can offer and further insight into this problem? Regards Mark

Answer:Windows 7 Ericsson F3507G WWAN Driver Problems

Yes, had exact same problem, found another email thread suggesting installing older WWAN driver http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7uwc47ww.exe which fixed it, but it was a pain, had to uninstall the newer WWAN driver, plug into internet by cable (so nothing running with access connections), install (with the cable-connected internet so it could download driver) and now it is running I hope somebody can tell lenovo to fix this stuff!!! (Here is the messages which got me going:  http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/replypage/board-id/X_Series_Tablet_ThinkPads/message-id/6684 )

Answer:ThinkPad Edge S430 WWAN: Ericsson F3507G?

Hey there CharlyAR,

Looking over some different specs and resources I found that specific modem you were looking may have been found on some models, like SL300, W500,T400, X200. It is important to note that some BIOS versions have whitelist restrictions of WWAN cards may work with the machine. Currently, the following two cards are compatible with S430.

According to the PSRef for the S430, it was offered with the option for the following WWAN card:

Wireless WAN, Ericsson H5321gw Mobile Broadband Module, PCIe Half Mini Card, GPRS/WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+, ...

An additional option for you may be the ThinkPad GOBI 3000 PCI-e WWAN card, Lenovo Part Number 60Y3257.

Both of these options should work and be compatble with your S430. Good Luck and hope this helps you.

A lot of posts on this topic... Context:fresh Win7 x64 install on Thinkpad X301 4057-WBR. All downloads & drivers applied. All devices visible and working properly according to device manager. All prereqs for AT&T WWAN HSPA driver installed, except KB948278 as this is a patch for Vista - not Win7. Problem:Fn+F5 shows WIFI and BLUETOOTH but not WWAN radio. Immediately after reinstalling hotkey driver, or chipset driver, WWAN radio is visible and powered off. Pressing Power on does nothing. Press Fn+F5 again and WWAN radio is gone. Conclusion: unable to power on Ericsson F3507G device when running Win7 x64. Device was working perfectly under Vista. A patch is urgently needed - I'm sure I'm not alone on this one. Reading other posts on same topic:- BIOS reset to defaults does nothing. All ports/devices are already enabled.- Installing Ericsson MD400 modem driver which includes Wireless Manager does nothing. Device not detected. Seriously, this is the only reason I got this laptop to begin with - and now it's the only thing not working.

Hi,I purchased a n Ericsson f3507g WWAN card online and am getting a 1804 error. I have reviewed numerous posts online and just wanted to check if anyone has the "updated" BIOS for the W510 to enable the laptop to boot without checking the whitelist, or where this device has already been added to a custom BIOS?I see there are already fix's out for the W500 however nothing for the W510. Any help appreciated.

Answer:W510 1804 Unauthorised WWAN (Ericsson f3507g)

If your card doesn't carry a FRU number, i.e. is not a Lenovo part, I'm pretty sure that you'll have to do the whitelist hack to be able to use the card.

Hi, We use our own customized images, which we setup using sysprep, therefore all drivers need to be installed unatended. Unusually for Lenovo I couldn't find any instructions to install this device unatended. By running msiexec /a setup32.exe I managed to extract the drivers from the install pack. However if they are installed unattended I always get a code 10 error in device manager. I checked the driver files and they are the same that I would get with an interactive install. The error does not appear if I install the drivers interactively. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a T400 with an Ericsson WWAN card and AT&T Wireless service.  I'm using the AT&T Connection Manager dial client.  I'm using the latest drivers off the Lenovo support site (Package Version: 1.0.1046.221 | Driver Version: 4.50.6.0).  The ride is less than smooth.  I sit in the same place every day, but the experience varies.  I sometimes get a 2G connection, sometimes 3G and sometimes it will switch between the two during a session.  I have session drops and connection failures:633 (drivers for your wireless device are not functioning properly or some other program is locking the device) 634 (unexpected error has occurred while connecting to a GSM network)Various PPP failures I'm usually able to resolve the connection errors by toggling disable / enable on the card, the modem or both, but sometimes a re-boot (with a little SIM card jiggling) is req'd to re-connection.  Naturally, when I call AT&T, they say all is well on their network and the base station I'm hanging off of. All in all, less than stellar and can be a real productivity drain.  If anyone is having (or, better yet, has had) issues like this and may have some tips, love to hear about them.

Answer:T400 + Ericsson F3507g WWAN Card + AT&T = Kinda Flakey

I have quite a bit of issues also with the Ericsson WWAN card. Oddly, it was attributed to my display. It seemed that my display was on a refresh rate of 50Hz and changing the frequency to 60Hz resolved most of my issues. I have no idea how they were related but somehow it affects the WWAN connection in some way.

When I got my X1 carbon, I immidiatly did a clean windows 8 install on it and created a dual boot setup with linux debian. I was able to use the wwan mobile connection stuff without much trouble in Debian. BUT in windows everything I tried failed!! so I just gave up back then... Today I tried to install the firmware and drivers again, and this time with success!I did following:STEP 1 (uninstalling and terminating):First I ensured that everything related to the wwan driver/firmware was uninstalled with the uninstall thingy from control panel. Then I opened the device manager and right clicked on the wierd Mbt#2 (or something like that) then choose "uninstall". After that, I uninstalled all "Unkown" devices (such that there were no unkown or other wierd devices with warnings left). Then I opened task manager and closed everthing related to the driver installation. For example: the "g7wq12ww.exe" was still running from my previous attempt, even though it should not. Furthermore the firmware updater was running even though it should have been terminated long time ago after my previous attempt, -so I also closed that.... (you should ensure every process related to these drivers and firmware installation is terminated before continuing, because they seem to be unable to terminate by themselves!...) STEP 2 (installing):Then I installed the driver http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/g7wo06ww.exeAfter the installation, the Mbt#2 (or whatever its called) &... I've got the Ericsson F3507g WWAN card, latest bios, and latest drivers all installed, but whenever I install the f3507g card (and I've quadruple checked that its physically installed corretcly/etc), it goes into a "device plugged in, unplugged" loop. What I mean is you can hear Vista play the sound of "device plugged in" shortly followed by a "device unplugged sound". Device manager also goes spaz, showing the device for barely a second before it unplugs itself. When it does show up, it correclty shows up as an Ericsson f3507g card, but doesn't last long enough for any software to actually do anything with it. any ideas?(Vista x64, Ultimate w/sp2, all drivers/etc up to date using TVSU, 3g sim card also inserted)

Answer:T400 + Ericsson F3507g WWAN Card Device unplugged loop?

There are several Mini-PCI Express slots in the system, so make sure you've got the card in the right one.
Should be in the one on the left of the system under the silver little tray thing that flips up.

You can check it in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

You can also try reloading the BIOS settings (In the BIOS, F9, then F10) and see if that helps.

Hi I´m using Swedish Telenor for mobile services and have experienced stable mobile internet access with fully working VPN and outlook connectivity for years - using T63p, T510 and now T520. WLAN and Ethernet cable working fine with outlook. When on mobile internet, I have good internet access and VPN works fine, but the outlook-exchange communication doesnt work. I tried for a couple of days with another external modem (USB-connected) and everything was working well. I have installed all necessary software using Lenovo System Update. I have tried uninstalling drivers for the Ericsson modem and starting from scratch with fresh drivers from Lenovo. Nothing helps. I just got the T510 replaced becuase of other problems with high frequent sound and blue screen of death and othe peculiar behaviour - and now this. Any ideas?

Answer:Outlook-Exchange connection unstable on T520 with Ericsson F5521gw WWAN

Hi. We have the same situation. All our Lenovo T420s and X220 laptops with Ericsson F5521gw and vpn-client doesn't work ok with Outlook. They can receive mails ok, but sending mails just hang them in Outlook's outgoing folder. Only one mail manages to be send when vpn- and outlook connection has just been established, other outgoing mails may be hanging for tens of minutes and get delivered randomly one by one. Netstat -a shows that laptops connection to Exchange server's epmap port (rpc135) goes to time_wait state and in the same time pinging Exchange server replies ok. Ericsson driver is ver 6.5.1.5 and firmware R3B01. We have tested also with older Ericsson drivers and firmware. No luck. We have tested to same "F5521gw" laptops with several different usb hsdpa dongles, with wlan cards and lan cards and also with other Lenovo laptops which have built-in Qualcomm Gobi and Ericsson F3507g hsdpa-modules. With all other network connections Outlook works fine, only Ericsson F5521gw is causing us gray hair. We would really appreciate if someone has any clue how to solve this problem.  btw. Operating system is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and our hsdpa service provider is Finish Elisa.

I travel a bit, both within the US and to Europe (recently, Greece, Italy; upcoming: Sweden) and I was wondering it it's worth it to get a Lenovo WWAN card for my W530.  Some questions 1) In Europe, one needs a sim card.  How does this work? Do I have to pull my keyboard everytime I change a SIM in the WWAN card?  Is there a device I ca use to load the SIM externally?2) If I do travel both in the US and Europe, is the Gobi or the Ericsson card preferred?3) Is there a best solution for a cheap provider, or for a "as needed" provider, or do I have to sign up for an expensive plan?4) Do you frequent travelers recommend a WWAN, or is it best just to find hotspots and such? Thanks, Jim

I'm thinking about purchasing the above 3G card (either for Lenovo X220 or L520) but haven't been able to find out whether it supports fully automatic connecting or not. That is, I would not want to use any "connection app" and click Connect etc. each time the laptop is booted, but instead just boot up the laptop and start surfing (using 3G/WWAN). Is that possible with the above card and Lenovo-provided drivers/software?

Hi guys A colleague at work has asked me to look at his Thinkpad Edge E330, which he's upgraded to Windows 8. I've been able to get everything working fine except for the mobile broadband, and I was wondering if I was just doing something silly or if the current Windows 8 driver supplied is just a bit dodgy? The Windows 8 driver installs without issue, and takes care of the device in the Device Manager. The Mobile Broadband option shows up in the Network Connections list too although it's set to Off with no option to switch it on. In the PC Settings app it's also present and set to Off, and the slider to turn it on is present but greyed out. Curiously the GPS function ere works perfectly. After installing the driver I updated the WWAN firmware too, but this had no apparent effect. Is anyone aware of a solution to this issue, or is it just a matter of waiting for a new driver? Thanks for your help!

Hello, I've got a UMTS SIM-card which is also a cellphone SIM-card for my thinkpad. Now I've seen that I can send/receive SMS with it, but I haven't seen a option to phone with it. The last two days I searched for a software to do so, but I only found a software named "Mobile Partner" created by Huawei Technologies. The Lenovo community is a peer to peer support forum, not an official Lenovo support channel.

You may get a partial answer here, but given the specific nature of your problem, which appears like it might be tied to some aspect of your local 3G service provision, you will really need local Lenovo resources involved.

have you tried getting in contact with the person who sold you the phone. maybe they have the codes.

If they do not you can get in contact with Ericsson and they will be able to supply you with the codes.

HiAfter upgrading the system the computer does not recognize the WWAN nor the GPS.I've tried to uninstall the the Ericsson wireless module core and download and re-install the latest version of the driver (v1.0.1046.226 ), but the WWAN does not apear in the wireless radio switches (I have only the 802.11 wireless radio switch and the bluetooth switch)the thinkvatage mobile broadband connect  gives an error message "mobile broadband device not found" and so does the thinkvantage GPS utility. Also, I can not find the Ericsson F3507g through the device manager (not in modems and not in network adaptors).I'm almost sure it is not a hardware problem, since it worked fine before.Any ideas?Gilproduct: 7417TNUOS: XP PROAccess connections version 5.33

Answer:ericsson mobile broadband minicard problem

Hi, I had similar problem with driver: 7uwc46ww. For me it (mostly) went away with driver: 7uv706ww. Please note than I am running Win 7 so the exact driver may not be relevant but the behavior was the one you described so it is probably driver related. The problem seems to be that the card is switched off and then you can not get it on again. Two workarounds that I applied to the earlier driver which you may want to try out.1) Install Ericssons wireless manager which works OK for the built in card even if it is intended for non-built in cards2) Treat the WWAN card as a modem and switch it on with an AT-modem string. Mats

I have a W850i and Ive been using it for around 4 mths. What I'm wanting is to save my texts to the pc.

I've tried the software that came with the phone, no joy. A sim reader just reads the saved messages which appear to be the only ones on the sim and it'll only take 20 messages.

It cannot be impossible. If it's easier, how about simply saving my messages to the 1GB memory stick?

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hello!  Recently I installed the latest updates for my computer through the System Update program. Unfortunally it seems like the updater doesn't manage to install all the updates, and that are the drivers for the "Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard PC SC Port". I open it in "device management" (dont't know the translation), and find there are no drivers installed. So is it also for the "Ericsson ... GPS Port/Device Management".  Because of this I can no longer connect to WiFi. I have visited lenovos driver pages, and downloaded the requested driver, including the others needed, and installed them manually. The problems is that Ericcson driver keeps "rolling back" during installation after having paused at 100% (the same happened through System Update). It resets the installation, only leaving the message that it was interrupted.  I have never had this problem before, and I don't see why I suddenly would be without WiFi drivers. However I'm stuck, can't find any previous driver versions to install (nor roll back to an older driver as there is none).  Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks Message Edited by tormhau on 06-18-2009 12:10 PM

Hi torumhau, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community! It will help the members help you if you post your product number and the OS you are using (don't post your serial number).  Your symptoms are confusing. You are having problems with your WWAN card driver installation, but the problem is that the WiFi card does not work?

I've just received my ThinkPad X230 (which is lovely!) and bought a SIM card from 3 to use with the Ericsson mobile broadband I specified with it. Lenovo Access Connections displays the 3 transmitter and tries to connect, but I haven't been able to get it to work at all. Any ideas? It starts by not being able to find the provider, but changing from 3 3G to 3 GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/3G just results in a failed connection and the error log below. Any ideas? Answer:X230 Ericsson mobile broadband not working with 3 SIM card

Hi dtowsey,

First things first, have you updated your systems drivers and BIOS? I see there is a newer version of BIOS which can be downloaded independently here:  BIOS Update Utility for Windows 7 but if you haven't already, run TVT System Update to ensure all drivers are up to date. Once we are certain the ThinkPad has all the latest updates we can cross that off the list of potential reasons for your inability to connect to the network.

I hope this at least starts you off on the right track!

Ed

Can someone confirm for me that ordering this will get me an Ericsson F3507G?  I have been told from our I.T. purchasing that it will be an Option card and he can get it cheaper and install himself.  I am trying to replicate a previously purchased unit  that is out in the field, for testing. Thanks

Answer:X200 Tablet with Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)

If you are configuring that in the online store, the "Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)  [add $80.00]" will be the F3507G, unless there has been a recent change. Amazing if your IT guy can go through the purchasing cycle, install, and test, for less than that.

I have noticed this problem on 2 X301 Systems. One running XP (SP3') one running Vista (SP2). On both machines the Vodafone Dashboard was used to connect to WAN. At first it worked but afer a while a message saying": "Mobile connection not possible. Ensure that no other programs are using your selected device, and try again in a short while", when trying to connect. On one machine running vista, i could bypass this problem by using the sony ericsonwireless manager. On the XP machine it couldn't find the card (the ericsonwireless manager). The WAN Module is active. Under Modems i can see the F3507g device, which is working normally. Also under Ports I can see 2 COM Ports dedicated to the module (Device Management and GPS Port). Its interesting that i can connect to WAN using the RAS/Dial-up connection. Ipconfig /all shows an external IP and I can surf the net.Are there any known Issues with the Vodafone Dashboard ( I am using latest one Dashboard Version 9.4.3.16284).A driver reinstall didn't help.

Answer:X301 & Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Modem

You can just dump the "dashboard" and connect using Dial Up Networking, those broadband "connection managers" are really QoS managers and can dynamically quash your throughput based on settings updated on connection and broader network policies. Cellular providers drop calls and WWAN connections duirng periods of congestion and WWAN cards suck up more bandwidth than multiple voice users and their QoS habits are illogical most of the time. You should already have an entry for your ISP within DUN and you can google for sites with the specific settings to recreate / experiment with your settings, one particular site is: http://www.mgmcc.myby.co.uk/GPRS_phone_settings_B.htm     (no affiliation)

Hello All: I can't get the GPS location feature working on my new W520 (4270-CTO).  The device did work once, the first day I had the computer (before running Microsoft Update and Lenovo Update), however, it has not worked since then. I've tried everything I can think of - removing and re-installing all the software, double-checking the BIOS, looking for device driver problems - but no luck.  When I launch the 'GPS Enabler' application, all I see is 'Satellite Acquisition in progress...".  I know the laptop can see the satellite constellation because I have a small hand-held GPS beside the laptop, and it has an excellent view of the satellites.  So does my Blackberry. My operating system is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP 1 (what the computer shipped with).  I've installed the 83wo13ww driver package (nominally version 6.4.1.6, according to the readme file, but displayed as driver version 1.4.0.5 in the properties sheet of the driver when viewed via the Device Manager); the 83wa20ww Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation package ( version 4.0.0020); and the 83gp31ww ThinkVantage GPS package (version 2.72). I'm running Access Connections 5.84 (build 83c755ww), which I believe is the current release.  I have placed a SIM card in the slot in the back of the computer, and when I launch the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation, it shows all the appropriate information (IMEI, ICCID, etc.) for the SIM card... Answer:Can't get GPS working on W520 with Ericsson F5521gw Integrated Mobile Broadband

Just a postscript - I have found another discussion from about 18 months ago that mentions similar problems with a W500 and a T500.  One of the participants in that discussion suggested that improper assignment of COM ports might be the cause of the problem... but, if that is so, how does one go about re-assigning the two ports used by the GPS?  The picture I provided (link is above) shows that my W520 is using COM ports 10 and 11 for the GPS.  I have no idea at all how to change this port assignment. Here's the link to the prior discussion: W500 GPS Problem Regards, Michael

Hello, I was wondering about the service center for lenovo. I found out there were 3 service center/service provider near my house that does the warranty service for lenovo I haven't call them about the product/service availiablility yet but I just want to reapply the thermal compound. I don't want to do it by myself since it's going to void my warranty. well I don't have any problem but the temperature problem. When I play nba 2k12 for around 2hours mostly it runs on 70's C and spike to 80's C but now, it is running on 80's C and spike to 90's C. which it concerns me.(gpu got higher as well, was 60's but now running on 70's) If i can, I just want to drop my laptop off at service center or service provider, so i can get my problem fixed before the school starts....which is next week... anyway.. the question is that.. can I drop my laptop off at service center or service provider that does the warranty service for the lenovo to reapply the thermal compoind(or paste) on gpu and cpu , and clean the dust for me?

After many hours work trying to get this to work after upgrading from Vista, the latest drivers for the card (7uw706.exe) seemed to work okay with a vodafone signal being shown but I was unable to connect. Looking through many web forums, lots of people seem to be having similar problems with these cards in Lenovo machines. I finally discovered that the APN needs to be set for UK operation and now I can connect okay. However, it does not seem to be controllable with "Access Connections" (Blutooth and WiFi adaptors can be controlled okay here) which either shows card is "Disabled" or it is not possible to switch it on. Despite this, the WAN indicator on the front of the PC is always on unless I physically switch all radios off with the front hardware button. Even with this button OFF, a reboot results in the WAN module showing as ON again and it is necessary to physically switch all radios on and off again to extinguish this. Presumably this card is still powered when the indicator is lit which will affect battery life. I believe I am using the latest Access Connections Utility (6gc725ww.exe). Anybody else notice these problems (especially Lenovo Tech people).......?

I have two Lenovo laptops, a W530 and T540p.  I'd like to install WWAN capability.  I bought a Huawei WWAN card that, alas, won't pass the whitelist test. So now I'm looking for WWAN cards that are on the whitelist, and will work with T-Mobile US frequencies, namely 1700/2100MHz. For the T540p, it looks like the Sierra Gobi5000 EM7355, FRU 04W3801, might work. For the W530, I have not been able to find any Lenovo card that might work.  The Sierra Wireless MC8355, FRU:60Y3257, might work in 3G mode. Do you have any cards for either of the two laptops that will work on T-Mobile's network?   Or, forlorn hope, is there some way to bypasst the whitelist and use a card I know will work?  I understand the reasoning for the whitelist, but understand from a customer perspective, when I can't use an advertised capabiltiy because it's blocked in bios, it seriously cripples the functionality of the laptop.

Hi all. Im trying to determine where the problem lies with an issue I'm having.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Mobile phone wifi hotspot been working fine on laptop Win 10 for months. Now suddenly VERY slow and with timeouts/crashes. Same on both Chrome and Firefox. Internet on phone still running fast & fine.
Have so far tried (on laptop) Antivirus scan, full hard drive clean, full system defrag, manually clearing Web history/cache in browsers. And (on phone) Antivirus scan, full hard drive clean and manually clearing Web history/cache. Nothing works!
At my wit's end with this!! Should I take it to my mobile phone provider to look at? Or to an IT person??
Any ideas please, before I throw it against the wall?!

Answer:Windows 10 Or Mobile Phone Provider Issue?

I am assuming you are tethering your mobile phone's data connection to your laptop.
There is no such thing as a smart phone wifi hotspot. Wifi is Wifi and you can connect a laptop or any other device to it if you want, and have the correct log in details.
Tethering a device (via a USB cable normally) to a smart phone that has a paid for mobile data usage connection is a different thing.

Hiya,
I've read other threads on this, but I simply need to clarify a couple of points.
I am in the process of dropping out & living on a boat leaving all hard wired services behind, so will be heavily reliant on my mobile phone for making calls. With that in mind, I'm looking to keep my costs to a minimum.
Firstly, do I have to assume that Skype used in this way is NOT free, even when connecting skype to skype?
If I were to choose this method over my mobile phone, could it still be cheaper than either contract or PAYG?
Finally, are there any other, cheaper ways, methods or kit to make calls? Apart from borrowing a mates mobile!
Cheers.

Answer:Using Skype on a laptop with a mobile provider dongle

Skype is free but will use an amount of your mobile download data. If you have unlimited download, unlikely, then this isn't a problem but may create problems. You will also need to make sure that where you berth/moor then there is adequate mobile coverage. As far as I am concerned a mobile phoen tethered to laptop or other device is the same as mobile dongle. Same problems with data usage/costs apply. Assume this is UK only as any roaming would push costs extortionately high.

My Dell Inspiron came with a built in mobile broadband modem.
It is set up to default to a TELUS mobil broadband service. I would like to change the provider.

I have an mobil cell broadband contract with a provider called MOVICEL (in Angola). When my old computer was stolen the MOVICEL card was also taken with it. I want to convert the new computer over to use my MOVICEL service, which just implies directing the mobile broadband modem to call up the local
cell number that is dedicated to my service. I have this number but can't get beyond the TELUS installation programme in the Inspiron.

Can you advise me how I can go about installing this other service?

Answer:Changing Internal Mobile Broadband Modem Provider

Not sure if this applies to your model of Inspiron, but on another forum someone said you need to put a microSD card into a slot on the modem --"most Dell laptops do come with a slot for the SIM card. It is normally located in the battery bay when you remove the battery." Software from your service provider would probably have to be pre-installed on the card.

HiI just got my X1 Carbon w/ WWAN (EM7455) but I've noticed that the T-Mobile LTE-A performance is noticeably slower than it is on my LTE iPad Pro.  I've run multiple tests and I get 45-55mpbs download on my iPad. The Carbon only registers about 20mpbs.  My phone (also T-Mobile) is also registering 55mbps+ so the Carbon is definitely the odd one out.  Has anyone got any experience with this? Could it be to do with the T-Mo SIM not being optimized for LTE-A, or something?  ThanksGraham

I may be banging a square peg into a round hole here, but I will readily admit I have no idea what I am doing. My Thinkpad T410i came with 'Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network upgradable' under the heading of 'Integrated Mobile Broadband'. It has a slot for a SIM card behind the battery. If I go into 'Control Panel/Network and Internet/Setup Mobile Broadband' then I get a message 'Please install 'Mobile Broadband Connect' application to proceed further'. Also, on the 'Access Connections' page, the Mobile Broadband radio button is greyed out. I have tried installing software to overcome this to no avail.I have a SIM card that works perfectly well in a UK O2 dongle. What am I doing wrong please? How do these things fit together? What do I need to install please? Thanks.

Answer:Problem setting up Mobile Broadband/WWAN

upgradeable means it has the antenna and sim slot ready. You may need the actual pci-e card modem to use it, which is an option when you buy in store or add-on later.

Hello I have just purchased  a new X121e Type 3045-79G.  The machine has an Ericsson WWAN card installed. The GPS facility works fine, picks up Satelites and fixes my position. I have installed  both a UK O2 and a Giff Gaff sim card into the sim reader but cannot connect to mobile broadband. One of the main reasons why I purchased this machine ( instead of an iPad or Galaxy Tab) as i travel a lot and require internet access wherever i go. How do i get the WWAN mobile 3G to work.  I don't mind trying a sim from another provider ; eg  Vodafone, Three, Orange, O2 etc etc ( Giff Gaff would be my prefered provider though) basically anybody, i just want it to work. Please help or at least point me to some info so i can help myself.  Thanks in advance. Tim.

Answer:X121e - 3045-79G . How to use 3G Mobile Broadband ( WWAN)

Hi Kwikphix and welcome back to the community,

You will need Lenovo's Access Connections and possibly the activation program.  (The second one on the list)

I just took delivery of a new ThinkPad T520 (4239) with integral WWAN capability.  I downloaded all the info I could find about this laptop on Lenovo.com but found nothing about how to set up the WWAN.  (On the few occasions that I need it, I use T-Mobile's pay-as-you-go service.)  My Rocket 4G stick (made for T-Mobile by ZTE), used on my previous laptop, did not want to install on the ThinkPad due to a conflict with existing wireless connection software.  I really don't need 4G speed and now realize that my best option is simply to use the internal WWAN, presumably with the removable SIM card from my Rocket 4G stick. Although I have 30+ years experience with PC's, including upgrades and repairs, my exposure to mobile broadband is extremely limited.  So I need a very complete, detailed procedure on how to configure the Lenovo's WWAN, for T-Mobile use.  That should even include information on where the SIM card goes. Otherwise all is well.  Don't know why I put up with Dell + Vista for so long before getting a ThinkPad.

Hi Engineer10388!

SIM card here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?DocID=PD014446

The Lenovo Mobile Broadband setup software should already be installed on your system from the factory. If it isn't, here:

Hope this helps!

Hello, I configured a X220t in the online shop. For programming reasons I choose international keyboard layout and English international setup. For longtime use of the device I also choose the most feature-rich setup especially with the integrated mobile broadband card. But, I didn't get it working yet. Even when I insert a SIMCard into the slot the ThinkVantage ToolBox gives the message:"Your Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) card is installed but not activated."When I try to activate the card I cannot choose the appropriate service provider from the drop down menu (Germany: Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2, ...) There is only one service provider selectable United States: AT&T. Did Lenovo ship the WWAN-Card with a provider lock? I haven't seen any hints on that point! How can I activate the WWAN-Module then? Thx in advance. Best regardskyoshiro

I'm purchasing a Helix for use over in Africa. I'm curious if the included modem will work on the bands over there. There isn't much detail given on the order page. The country I'm going to uses the 900 GSM frequency band. I'm guessing their 3G networks might be on a different band? Anyway, any ideas if the mobile broadband modem will work overseas? Thanks! Seth
