X121e with F5521gw GPS: Garmin Mobile PC not working

Question: X121e with F5521gw GPS: Garmin Mobile PC not working

In device manager I see the F5521gw drivers are installed for device ?F5521gw Mobile Broadband GPS Port?. In windows 7 under ?Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Location and Other Sensors? I see the sensor F5521gw is enabled. Under ?Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Location and Other Sensors\User Settings? everyone is selected as able to access the sensor. In BIOS every I/0 peripheral is set to ?Enabled?. I have not installed any Lenovo software for the GPS as I don?t see why I would need it. It is enough that the driver is working. PROBLEM: Garmin Mobile PC reports the e36wgps0 on COMP4 as working but cannot find any satellites. I tried his outdoor, without any success. QUESTION: what am I missing? What can I do to make Garmin detect satellites?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You say you don't want to use Lenovo GPS Enabler application. But how do you turn on/off GPS receiver in modem? This is one of the function of that s/w prior of getting fix data..

Hello All: I can't get the GPS location feature working on my new W520 (4270-CTO).  The device did work once, the first day I had the computer (before running Microsoft Update and Lenovo Update), however, it has not worked since then. I've tried everything I can think of - removing and re-installing all the software, double-checking the BIOS, looking for device driver problems - but no luck.  When I launch the 'GPS Enabler' application, all I see is 'Satellite Acquisition in progress...".  I know the laptop can see the satellite constellation because I have a small hand-held GPS beside the laptop, and it has an excellent view of the satellites.  So does my Blackberry. My operating system is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP 1 (what the computer shipped with).  I've installed the 83wo13ww driver package (nominally version 6.4.1.6, according to the readme file, but displayed as driver version 1.4.0.5 in the properties sheet of the driver when viewed via the Device Manager); the 83wa20ww Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation package ( version 4.0.0020); and the 83gp31ww ThinkVantage GPS package (version 2.72). I'm running Access Connections 5.84 (build 83c755ww), which I believe is the current release.  I have placed a SIM card in the slot in the back of the computer, and when I launch the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation, it shows all the appropriate information (IMEI, ICCID, etc.) for the SIM card... Answer:Can't get GPS working on W520 with Ericsson F5521gw Integrated Mobile Broadband

Just a postscript - I have found another discussion from about 18 months ago that mentions similar problems with a W500 and a T500.  One of the participants in that discussion suggested that improper assignment of COM ports might be the cause of the problem... but, if that is so, how does one go about re-assigning the two ports used by the GPS?  The picture I provided (link is above) shows that my W520 is using COM ports 10 and 11 for the GPS.  I have no idea at all how to change this port assignment. Here's the link to the prior discussion: W500 GPS Problem Regards, Michael

Hi Everyone Just get my new T430S for testing purposes , I was replacing the WWAN from my "old" W520 to the new one and get the error that the device its not supported , is there any way to get this fix , if not what's the official way to open a case with lenovo ?, if this is not working I try to send back the T430s. Thx and regards.

Answer:F5521gw Mobile Broadband and T430s

well there is no "official" way of doing this. the 430s has so called whitlisted cards that works. others dont work without modifying the bios. try to find a modded bios that removes the whitelist or like you said.....return it. or just get an approved card.

I can't seem to get my Vivoactive HR and Lumia 950 XL to sync anymore once I went over to the fast ring last night. I'm starting to think I might need to downgrade back if no one knows of any workaround. I've tried resetting it and starting with the build fully clean (no restore or anything). Anyone have any ideas or at least have first-hand knowledge that it does work? If no one can get it to work then its clearly an issue and I'll post it on feedback.

Hi. I have just bought an X121e which comes with "integrated mobile broadband" . I cannot set this up. The manual states that there is a button in Lenovo think vantage tools but none appears. I have tried using the Internet connections/access connections button but the access connections screen has the mobile broadband button greyed out. Tried downloading new drivers but they all refer to WAN broadband cards (which are not fitted to my machine).  Any ideas gratefully rec'd thanks.

"Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable"2. "Integrated Mobile Broadband - Ericsson F5521gw" What exactly do these options mean? If I go for option 1 will I be able to simply stick my mobile broadband SIM in and use it or do I need additional hardware? Regards, Chris

Hello I have just purchased  a new X121e Type 3045-79G.  The machine has an Ericsson WWAN card installed. The GPS facility works fine, picks up Satelites and fixes my position. I have installed  both a UK O2 and a Giff Gaff sim card into the sim reader but cannot connect to mobile broadband. One of the main reasons why I purchased this machine ( instead of an iPad or Galaxy Tab) as i travel a lot and require internet access wherever i go. How do i get the WWAN mobile 3G to work.  I don't mind trying a sim from another provider ; eg  Vodafone, Three, Orange, O2 etc etc ( Giff Gaff would be my prefered provider though) basically anybody, i just want it to work. Please help or at least point me to some info so i can help myself.  Thanks in advance. Tim.

Hi,Just bought a Thinkpad x121e model 3051XG - AMD E-450/ 320HD/ 4G/ Win 7 64bit.I'm trying to install mobile broadband but no luck.I'm going crazy and spinning around in installation loops.I get this message no matter what:NO DEVICE DETECTEDI'm using a valid sim card from an 02 3G mobile broadband dongle (Sierra Compass 885) which I've used in all my previous laptops (Win7 and OSX) with no issues. Here is what I've done:Installed the latest Sierra 64bit modem driverInstalled the latest Sierra 3G Watcher softwareConfigured the firewall to make exception for software aboveInserted 02 SIM card in x121e card slot (behind the battery)Opened Thinkvantage Access ConnectionsSet up a new modem profile with O2 settingsWhen it asked for the dialer software I pointed to the 3G Watcher.exeThen I selected the modem connection in Thinkvantage Access Connections; the dialer starts running but then I get the dreadful: "No Device Detected" I've tried all sorts of variations and permutations of the above (including downloading drivers and software from Lenovo, O2 UK and Sierra) but nothing works... Extremely frustated, I hoped I could get rid of dongle and take advantage of the x121e sim card slot but it seems I'm experiencing a Lenovo ThinkDISAdvantage. Anyone experiencing similar issues? Any ideas? Thanks . MaxUK

Answer:x121e- Unable to install 02 UK 3G mobile broadband

Hi maxuk, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Is that a 3051-5XG? That model doesn't have a mobile broadband card, but it is WWAN upgradeable i.e. you can add a Lenovo WWAN card. Did you add one? You can find the specs at support.lenovo.com or in the personal systems reference book http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook_WE.pdf.

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

I've found a workaround for this problem, but I'll share it here in case anyone has some idea of the root cause, or if others need a similar workaround. I bought my Thinkpad X121e (3045) about 1,5 years ago. It came with Windows 7 and I installed Ubuntu for dual-boot. I regularly boot either or the other, so I'm not sure on which side the problem was caused. About 6 months ago, it started acting up: I first noticed that it wouldn't go to sleep when I closed the lid (in either OS). Then I noticed that aside from the volume control buttons (Fn Esc, F1 and F2), none of the Fn buttons had any effect whatsoever. And again it was the same symptom in both Windows and Ubuntu.  I tried upgrading all the drivers for hotkeys and powermanagement (on Windows), but this had no effect. Finally, when I found there was bios upgrade out (1.17), I installed it, and voila everything started working again (figures, since bios is OS independent, I suppose). Now, all was fine for another six months, and last week the problem suddenly came back. Exactly the same symptoms. Unfortunately this time around there was no bios upgrade available, and I couldn't re-install the current version. At some point I came up with the idea of downgrading the bios to 1.16, and somehow, that made everything work again. So, my workaround is to jump back between bios 1.16 and 1.17 whenever this problem re-appears. I do wonder about the cause. Since it is OS-independent, I reckon that th... Read more

Hello everyone, I have a lenovo thinkpad x121e. The buttons above the touchpad (for right and left clicking) and also the trackpoint stop working after a while (about 45 min). Although the touchpad itself works without problems. If I reboot the operating system (Windows 7, 64-bit version) everything works fine for a while and then the buttons and trackpoint won't respond again. It is always the same routine. Rebooting windows, everything alright, stop working, ... I am using the newest driver version and de- & reinstalling of UltraNav haven't solved the problem. Has anyone an idea what causes my problems with the touch pad buttons and how to solve it? (I guess it's not a hardware problem.) Many thanks in advance.

Answer:X121e touch pad buttons stop working after a while

Hi, li-lup

I would recommend making sure that all other drivers and the BIOS has been updated, since outdated drivers could explain such an issue. All drivers and BIOS updates for your system can be found here. Download and install all necessary and see if the TrackPoint behavior changes.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I have a x121e and after I have booted it up I get this message saying the power manager has stopped working. It then gives me the option of seeing if a update will resolve the problem, I run it and it then says it was unable to resolve the problem. Is there anything I can do. The laptop was fine when I first bought it a few weeks back.

Hello Neon,

You should uninstall the existing Power Manager software and then download the latest version from the lenovo website. Also update the BIOS of the notebook.

You may refer to the mentioned below web link.

I have an issue with a X121e 3045-79G Thinkpad running Windows 7 professional 64 bit. When it's running, there is an issue where "Desktop Windows Manager" stops working and is closed. It was running Intel HD Graphics Device drivers 8.15.10.2476 so I updated to 8.15.10.2827 from Lenovo site but this made the issue worse /more frequent. I have also ran the "Intel Driver Update Utility" which picked up on an update 8.15.10.2993 being required. This did not fix the issue either. The computer runs at 2 different sites with a Lenovo 2.0 Port Replicator with Digital Video. One site connects directly onto the network and the other through VPN after logon. The port replicator uses DisplayLink which drivers are fully up to to date. Although this issue has happened at both these sites, the same issue happens when the Thinkpad is not connected to these devices. I've updated Bios but this didn't help. All Standby/Sleep/Hibernate has been switched off. Windows updates are up to date. User is both Local and Domain admin. I'm not sure what's the issue with the Thinkpad but I wondered if anyone else had seen this and had managed to resolve the issue. I've googled it and someone had a similar issue in Feb 18, 2013 and managed to resolve it using drivers 8.15.10.2656. However I guess that using them specific drivers wouldn't help as that's several months ago. I had a look for the drivers though and couldn't find them from an official site. Any help would be appreci... Read more

Hi there! I've trouble with standby on my X121e (AMD E-450 platform). Hibernation works well, but standby doesn't work at all. If I start the X121e to resume from standby, I will either get error messages about almost every single program crashing (something with violation in address soandso) or it will reboot immediately. If I don't powercycle after this, Keyboard and Mouse won't work (altough at least I can use the keyboard in the Windows "F8" boot menu). Im running a pretty straightforward Windows 7 64bit installation and the Lenovo Solution Centre tells me that everything is up to date and OK. I'm also running the latest BIOS firmware, which should be 1.15 Oh, and the system is configured as EFI if that matters. What can I do to make standby work again? Regards  Steffen

I recently bough a T420s laptop with a Ericsson F5521gw WWAN card. The GPS function seems to be working, but it is a little bit slow in finding satellites. ThinkVantage GPS program doesn't let me choose any other GPS mode than "standalone". I have checked from F5521gw's data sheet that it supports Assisted GPS (A-GPS) function. Does Lenovo support this function or is there some other possibilites to enable A-GPS?

Answer:A-GPS with Ericsson F5521gw

As far as I know, you need special software to support A-GPS.  The Lenovo software supports stand-alone mode only.  I suppose you can buy other software that uses A-GPS, but I don't know for sure.

Hi Lenovo, I tried to browse through the entries of the forum first, but it seems that you have yet failed to respond to the fact, that the build in WWAN card in some of your latest Thinkpad models, the Ericsson F5521gw only negotiates speeds of 7.2mbit despite the facts that the Ericsson card supports 21mbit and that my provider in Denmark (TDC) does support 21mbit HSDPA downloads. My thinkpad is a T420s 4174-P4G. But I am quite sure that it's not related to the specidic model. I can see that X220 users have reported this as well in Sweden on a Telia network that also supports 21mbit. Now if I take out my TDC sim card and put it into a USB-Modem such as the Huawei E372, I instantly get a 21mbit connection to the TDC network. But it's not elegant to use an external USB modem, when you purchased the top-model with a build in WWAN card that states that 21mbit is supported. I find it great pitty, that I have hardware in my super cool Thinkpad T420s that supports 21mbit, but that your driver appearantly blocks the speed to only 7.2mbit. Anybody from Lenovo who care to comment on this ? Thx Other than this I am very happy with my T420. The noisy fan issue is the biggest problem with thos model, but we are dealing with this issue in another thread.

Answer:Ericsson F5521gw 7.2mbit only

dk90103 wrote:

but that your driver appearantly blocks the speed to only 7.2mbit.

I have been using an F5521gw, in both an T420 and an X220, with two 3G ISPs (one on the 850MHz band and the other on the 900MHz band) in Australlia that support HDPA+ operation and I can achieve raw link speed connections at 21 Mbps with both of them, so whatever your issue is, its not solely with the F5521gw driver.

Cheers,

Did you get the WWAN cards from Lenovo?  As you have discovered, that is required.  There is a device whitelist that ThinkPads enforce.

Answer:X230i + Ericsson F5521gw fault

My assume is the card f5521gw isn't whitelisted in the newest BIOS dispite this card (even with the different p/n or FRU) is listed in the current (!) fru_bom file for the x230. Possibly it was supported in the initial BIOS versios. Currently the half sized card Ericsson h5321gw is listed in the fru_bom file.

Does anyone know if the Ericsson F5521gw would be compatible with an X260 running Windows 10? I've got an X220 which I have been looking to replace (primarily for a higher resolution display). Neither the X260 or X1C are exactly what I want (I like the flexibility having a spare battery but would prefer NMVe if I was spending a lot of money). Therefore I am wondering, as a half-way approach, I could buy the cheapest i7 X260 and swap over my MBB adapter (I only have a 3G data contract) and 1TB Crucial M500 drive. I know I had trouble with the F5521gw on Windows 7 (there were some workarounds) but since Win 8.1 and now Win 10 I've had no problems. TIA!Simon

Hello, a first time Thinkpad user here. I'm having a problem with my new laptop, X220 (model 4290W1B). The specifications are these: i5-2520M, 4GB, X25-M (upgraded), 12.5" HD Premium LED 1366x768, Intel HD 3000, a/g/n WLAN, BT, Sec. Chip, FP, HD-Cam. I also purchased the Ericsson F5211gw module for wireless WWAN / 3g connections. The wireless network part of it is working fine, but the GPS doesn't work. The module was installed by the reseller, so I assume the antennas etc. are installed correctly. I have installed drivers for the card from Lenovo support (and system update) and installed Thinkvantage GPS utility. In device manager I have device "F5521gw Mobile Broadband GPS Port (COM5)" with an exclamation point. Device status box has this information: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". When I try to start the GPS utility it doens't start and gives this error:"The GPS NMEA COM port is not available. You need to check the following things.- Another GPS application is using the COM port.- Com port is disabled. You can enable the COM port in Device Manager" I have no other GPS applications or haven't disabled the COM port. I think there isn't any options about the GPS in BIOS (I have disabled stuff I don't need) I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. I also have reinstalled Windows 7 (unrelated reason) but the problem has persisted. Any assistance would be welcomed.

Hi,Yesterday I've installed F5521GW modem into my x220t and after downloading some drivers found on forum it worked fine. Then I decided to do autoupdate, it found some drivers related to WWAN adapter (GPS, "Lenovo Mobile access" and I guess few more) and now I'm stuck to like few minutes (around three?) of internet and after that wireless WAN radio turns off, just like an unused WiFi card. It happens every time, when connection is made and is obviously in use too.  I've turned off "Turn mobile radio off when disconnected" in Access connection, moreover when WAN card turns off while using Access connection it hangs. I'm connecting using Windows Network and sharing center, "Mobile broadband" application leads me only to some kind of activation (but I have a working, activated service...) and nothing more, and "Lenovo mobile Access" gives me some registration page, I guess for some kind of Lenovo branded internet provider, plus some tray icon saying that no mobile broadband is detected How to get rid of this automatic WAN card shutdown? It worked great until I decided to do an update...

I have a X220 Tablet with the Ericsson F5521gw WWAN? option. It seems to connect just fine, however after 30 mins - 3 hrs, it always disconnects from the mobile network. A red cross appears in Access Connections, and the Windows 7 network icon shows that it is "connected" but there is "no internet access". It is impossible to reconnect using either Access Connections or the Windows tool. If I try, it gives me an error about not being able to find the network. If I try Fn + F5, I sometimes can turn the WWAN off but not back on, and sometimes I cannot even turn it off. None of this helps me reconnect. The only way to be able to reconnect is to shutdown + turn back on / restart / sleep + wake. One interesting thing I've noticed is that the mobile network makes a difference. Using the "3" network (which I'm on a contract for), it disconnects after 30mins - 3 hrs. However, if I swap the SIM card to a Telstra network prepay card, it can hold the connection much more reliably. I've only noticed that it dropped the connection once after about 3 hrs. On subsequent testing, leaving the computer on overnight etc, it seems to stay connected to Telstra. I've tried the following trouble shooting steps without any success:- I verified the correct orientation of the SIM card on these forums- I've uninstalled access connections / used earlier versions of the Ericsson driver- I've reimaged the computer using the Lenovo factory install DVDs- I've asked "3" for a new SIM card to... Hello, I have an E220s, and have recently bought an Ericsson WWAN F5521gw module (FRU: 60Y3279).According to the manual (and judging by how the card looks), it connects to an antenna through two cables: main + auxiliary (just like the WIFI module). My laptop didn't have any such cables, beside of those already used by the WIFI module (I've opened and removed the top panel to make sure. Really no antenna cables).Just to experiment, I've disconnected the aux cable from the WIFI module and connected it to the main connection of the WWAN module (so now I have two modules, each connected only at the main connection). It worked - both connections operate properly (with a SIM card for the WWAN, of course). Is this supposed to be a satisfactory solution, or should I worry about them not being connected through the AUX as well?If they indeed need the AUX connections too, where are the WWAN antenna connectors supposed to be? Thanks in advance,Daniel

I'd really appreciate if someone could lend me hand with this issue, I'm going a little crazy trying to fix it. The Ericsson F5521gw WAN Module is detected and installed by the OS(Win 10 64bit) and Lenovo hardware scan picks it up but Fn+F5 utility won't switch it on, I can click the button till the cows come home to no avail, the WLAN and BT switches work fine though. I have tried cycling the hardware switch a few times and making sure the WAN module is enabled in the BIOS(it is) but nothing helps. Tried installing all the latest drivers but no luck. The only thing I can think of is I updated from Win 7 64bit to Win 10 64bit, WAN worked perfectly on Win 7, can't remember ever using it successfully in Win 10, I may have though. One thing I have noticed is no matter how many times I switch BT off it switches back on with a reboot. Is there perhaps any manual method or app apart from Fn+F5 to enable the WAN?Has anyone had similar issues after a Win 10 update, if so any fix possible?

Having E320 (1298-3RG) with currently available driver version 6.4.1.6 from 08 Jul 2011 from Lenovo support site there seems to be incomplete mobile operator data for Finland. Specifically, my operator Saunalahti utilizes Elisa network and is actually the part of Elisa company. The problem is the current driver from Lenovo doesn't recognize SIM card automatically and manual setup offers just single possible item in the list for Finland - Elisa. Saunalahti has its own MNC (21, Elisa has MNC 05), and such manually edited connection (replacing with the right AP settings) is detected as roaming, which works but has two major issues: Every time a user has to accept roaming warning dialog before connection is actually made (Saunalahti always been on Elisa network thus the setup is NOT actually roaming)Automatical WLAN-WWAN connection switching doesn't work, probably due to roaming issue with (it just silently fails without roaming dialog).Tried with two Saunalahti SIM cards with the same result, both having unlimited data plan and working fine. BTW Toshiba has newer v.6.5.x.x drivers according to http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/.Could someone provide the hints how to fix these issues, maybe editing the driver configuration file(s) or has a link to the latest F5521gw driver that will work in pair with Lenovo Access Connections, thanks!

HI all,I just bought an X220 with the following specifications:   Lenovo ThinkPad X220 4291 - Core i7 2620M / 2.7 GHz - RAM 4 GB - HDD 320 GB - - HD Graphics 3000 - 3G Mobile Broadband- no service included- Gigabit Ethernet - WLAN : 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 - TPM - 12.5" LED TFT 1366 x 768 ( WXGA ) I made a clean installation, since I switched to an SSD drive, and installed all drivers as suggested by the lenovo update tool.I also installed the wireless WAN drivers available in the lenovo support page: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-77280.html My problem is that I'm unable to stablish a WAN connection with the broadband modem. In window's device manager a device named "Ericsson F5521gw" appears as working properly, and a WAN adapter is listed as a network adapter and in the lenovo communication tool. The problem is that if I click "connect" it only lists available wifi networks, and I don't see an option or program to stablish such WAN connection. I am missing something? I notice that the PCI Express Mini Card slot is empty, so I am wondering if the modem is not really included, even if it appears as so in the specifications and it also appears as a working device.  David

Hi dvallet and welcome to the forum,

Did you turn on the radio for the adapter? Press Fn-F5 (require hotkey feature set) and turn on Wireless WAN radio.
Are you using Lenovo Access Connections? Did the WWAN work before the clean install?

If you never used it before you could download and install the Lenovo broadband connect app and try to activate.

If you find F5521gw in device manager PCI-E adapter is installed in your computer.

Hi, I have a problem with my F5521GW Broadband modem on a Lenovo X220T after completing all the current update. It was working perfectly until yesterday when I used the Lenovo Software Update utility to run all the updates (there was about 22 in total) and after I rebooted, the Broadband module doesn't want to connect to the Service providers anymore. It is still properly listed without errors in the Windows Hardware devices (Modem Driver: Ericson AB, 2011/04/13 Version 5.28.4.0) (Network Driver: Ericcson, 2011/08/12, 1.5.2.0).When I use the Access Connections Utility (Version:5.93 Build G1C51WW) and set it to Mobile Broadband on the "Connect to the Internet" tab, it does detect the Service provider I use. It shows the tower Icon with Vodacom-SA. In the past I could click on that icon and then click connect and I was online. I also had a Location profile setup for Vodacom and that also worked.  Now when I try and use any of these connection methods it doesn't connect (Error message: Connection Failed). I click on the Help Me Fix This button and on the Diagnostic window I get error code 043.  I then click the repair button where it is supposed to find the service provider again, but then it doesn't find any providers anymore. When I close the Diagnostic screen and go back to the "Connect to the Internet" tab, the Vodacom-Sa Icon is still there. Oh no, didn't I write my WWAN-Card works cleanly after the lenovo support repaired it in my previous post?! After a long time (3-5 month) of not using it it has a strange behaviour now I cannot find out the reason for: After connecting to my broadband carrier of choice (Vodafone) the connection get disconnected after ~3 min. because the WWAN-Card (Ericsson F5521gw) becomes disabled state. But why? I could not find out a feature/setting to explain this behaviour. Sure, I installed several lenovo updates since the time the WWAN-Card worked properly and the state I got now. My dial up settings didn't change: General/Phone number:Phone number: *99# Options/Redial Options:Redial attempts: 3Time between redial attempts: 1 MinuteIdle time before hanging up: NeverIdle threshold: <disabled>Redial if line is dropped: true I don't think it's up to the dial up settings as the WWAN-Card becomes disabled after ~3min. of connection.Driver Version: 5.28.4.0 When I turn it on again by Fn-F5 it connects immediately but just till it becomes disabled again after those ~3 min. I searched the forum already but I could not find similar problems yet.UPDATE: I found a similar entry in the forum here:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Wireless-WAN-adapter-keeps-turnig-off-F... Any hints? Cheerskyoshiro

I noticed that Ericsson F5521gw WWAN module does not work after resume from standby mode. It is listed in Access Connections Fn+F5 dialog but it can not be switched on. I have the latest version of the driver (1.5.2.0), firmware (R3B01) and Access Connections (5.85). The Wireless Connection Status windows reports 'WAN adapter is not ready'. No errors in Event log. The really strange is that in Network Connection panel the 'Mobile Broadband Connection' is in Enabled state and Duration is counting ... The problem is always reproducible. Fortunately it works for hibernation at least.

Hello, I have a user with an X220, running Windows 7 SP1 (x64) with Access Connections 5.84, utilising the Ericsson F5521GW WWAN card. The user is experiencing random disconnects when using the 3G and as this is a remote user, he heavily relies on this service. We have had our supplier send the user a new SIM card, in case that was faulty but this has not resolved the issue. The obvious next step would be to replace the WWAN card but again, he is a remote user and would need to come in to head office or send it in, which will not be ideal. I was wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and if so, how it was resolved. Kind RegardsBarry J. Lane

Answer:X220 (4291-5CG) 3G ThinkVantage Random Disconnects [Ericsson F5521GW]

There is long discussion about that http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-3G-mobile-broadband-problem-with-F5521gw/... In short: the F5521gw module is buggy, Lenovo does not care, Ericsson no longer supports these modules. The only known solution is to replace it with Sierra Wireless (Gobi 3000) one.

Hi there guys, You've pushed out a 7.1.1.0 driver update for the F5521gw card for the T430 but haven't updated the T420 systems for the same card. The drivers from the T430 work on my T420s so out of interest why hasn't there been an update for us guys ? Be nice to think we weren't being left behind, we aren't even barely a generation old yet !

I have just bought a Garmin 250 Europe, it works fine, setup was easy and it does everything that I need but as I am new to sat navs I cannot see anything in the manual that refers to charging time for a flat battery, a fully charged battery should last 5 hours, but it does give any charging times. I do have an AC charger to use at home.

I was just given this old GPS unit that still works fine.

I've found the cable hack info. So hurdle #1 over but what next. Where do I get the software to add way points? Is there an open source version and is there a Linux version. This so far is going to cost me batteries so looking to do this on the cheap.

I have both Windows and Linux but my laptop is Linux so would love both versions, if they exist.

Question: Garmin GPS

I recently bought a Garmin hand-held GPS system (model eTrex Vista Cx). I also bought the Garmin Great Britain TOPO maps DVD to go with it. The DVD needs to be unlocked by entering a supplied code, at which point it then contacts Garmin for authorisation. When I try this I get "Error accessing the internet (12038). Please verify the internet connection and try again".My internet connection is working ok, and I have checked the Firewall settings to allow the software incoming / outgoing access. The supplier can't help, and I'm waiting to see if Garmin reply to my e-mail.Can I appeal to anyone out there who can help me get up and running? Thanks.

Hi
My phone is a Galaxy S6
I normally download my photos to the computer and connect the mobile to the computer via USB connection. I then get a screen come up on the computer asking me what next.
This time for some unknown reason, I have nothing. The Phone is connecting to the computer because it shows that it is charging via the USB drive.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem is?
Does the problem lie with the phone setting or the computer?
Any help would be appreciated.

Might be sth only you are experiencing. Try one or two soft resets and if desperate enough, a hard reset.
Otherwise holding out for another update is the only option left

I cant connect through my mobile hot spot, says limited connection. pleasse help.

Answer:Mobile Hotspot not working

I think your mobile service provider is blocking your hotspot. Several service providers have that capability and they restrict any extra devices from being connected to their network through hotspot. In the US, I know that T-mobile and AT&T both have that capability.
You should check with your service provider.

For personal troubleshooting, you can try resetting the Hotspor connection on your cellphone, enter a new password and then set it up again. Try connecting again from your device and see if that works.

Hi Im using Swedish Telenor for mobile services and have experienced stable mobile internet access with fully working VPN and outlook connectivity for years - using T63p, T510 and now T520. WLAN and Ethernet cable working fine with outlook. When on mobile internet, I have good internet access and VPN works fine, but the outlook-exchange communication doesnt work. I tried for a couple of days with another external modem (USB-connected) and everything was working well. I have installed all necessary software using Lenovo System Update. I have tried uninstalling drivers for the Ericsson modem and starting from scratch with fresh drivers from Lenovo. Nothing helps. I just got the T510 replaced becuase of other problems with high frequent sound and blue screen of death and othe peculiar behaviour - and now this. Any ideas?

Answer:Outlook-Exchange connection unstable on T520 with Ericsson F5521gw WWAN

Hi. We have the same situation. All our Lenovo T420s and X220 laptops with Ericsson F5521gw and vpn-client doesn't work ok with Outlook. They can receive mails ok, but sending mails just hang them in Outlook's outgoing folder. Only one mail manages to be send when vpn- and outlook connection has just been established, other outgoing mails may be hanging for tens of minutes and get delivered randomly one by one. Netstat -a shows that laptops connection to Exchange server's epmap port (rpc135) goes to time_wait state and in the same time pinging Exchange server replies ok. Ericsson driver is ver 6.5.1.5 and firmware R3B01. We have tested also with older Ericsson drivers and firmware. No luck. We have tested to same "F5521gw" laptops with several different usb hsdpa dongles, with wlan cards and lan cards and also with other Lenovo laptops which have built-in Qualcomm Gobi and Ericsson F3507g hsdpa-modules. With all other network connections Outlook works fine, only Ericsson F5521gw is causing us gray hair. We would really appreciate if someone has any clue how to solve this problem.  btw. Operating system is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and our hsdpa service provider is Finish Elisa.

Question: Garmin Updates

I did not know the best place for this, please move it if it is better elsewhere.

I have been experiencing a struggle trying to download Garmin updates for my Nuvi 50 LM. Firefox will not allow this, here is the text of the message from FF whenever I try to download garmin updates: -
"The owner of download.garmin.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website."

I get the same reaction from Chrome. Apparently only Internet Explorer can be used to download garmin updates. I refuse to use IE as I know it is inherently unsafe. If other browsers are stopping garmin in the same way, there must be something wrong. I have contacted both Firefox Help and Garmin. FF have suggested several solutions, none of which work, but it is obviously not Firefox causing the problem. I have given Garmin the details above and informed them that they need to correctly configure their website. I bought my Nuvi 3 years ago, with Lifetime Free Updates. That looks good now, doesn't it?

If you have a garmin and you run Firefox or Chrome, please try updating and tell me about your experience.

I have connected my Garmin Geko 201 GPS device to a USB port and installed the drivers. I now get a message saying 'cannot open this hardware, error code 10'. Can anyone help with this?

Answer:Garmin GPS USB connection

Code 10: This code means that the device failed to start (for example, it is missing or is not working properly). To resolve this error code, make sure the device is attached to the computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are plugged in fully and that all adapter cards are plugged into their slots fully. Follow the suggested solution button and update the device driver. It may be possible to remove the device and re-detect it using the Add New Hardware wizard in Control Panel. Solution button: Update Driver taken from a thread with a similar problem hope it helps

Hi,
It will take a genius to help with this problem since I have called Garmin, and pc maker support to no avail. When I attempt to hotsync the PDA and right click on the icon on the hotsync icon on the desktop taskbar there is every option except Local USB. I have tried everything from deleting the palm software(making sure that all has been deleted) and reinstalling to checking system properties verifying that port is available. Drinks on me to whoever shows me how to get local USB to appear on right click list of hotsync button on taskbar...without reformatting HD.

My sister-in-law came to stay the other day and dragged my wife off junketing. There was some debate as to finding their intended destination. My sister-in-law is a midwife and, even though she came by train, arrived with her TomTom in her reticule. "No worries" she said, "got a fag lighter in your car?" and off they sped with TomTom doing its stuff.

Wife much impressed!

Wife has 60th birthday looming.

Personally I have always been, still am and doubtless will remain puzzled by people's inability to use and remember maps. Probably a cajones thing. Anyway, what the wife of 37 years duration wants the wife gets. Question is which one?

Having done a bit of browsing on the subject the general view SEEMS to be that Garmin is better than TomTom. What do you MajorGeek loungers feel?

The desiderata are:

1. Absolutely NO adverts. If adverts are unavoidable the deal is off and the wife gets a new set of saucepans (or something).

2. It will almost certainly ONLY get used in the UK.

3. 4" or 5" screen.

4. Free maps for life would be handy if such a deal exists.

5. It does not need to do anything else! such as dock with iphone, emit cricket scores, make coffee...

From the plethora of makes and models which would you recommend? It would be of further interest if you could state the basis of any suggestion - i.e. do you own the one recommended? have you used it? have you seen it in use? do you sell it? or make it?

Answer:TomTom or Garmin GPS for a car?

I've never used a TomTom, but Garmins are great. They are so far and above better than car GPS systems (and we have 3 different car makes with them).

I'm not sure why there would be advertising as I've never experienced that.

I'd go on their site: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134 Check the features you want and find one and then shop around and look at reviews.

But my vote is Garmin.

@Chris144, welcome to the forum. I suggest that you go to Garmin's website to see if they have a Win 10 software update for your GPS.  I believe that it is most likely a problem with their software.  They are simply passing the buck by telling you that it is a Windows problem. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Having had a Navman F20 for many years, which is working remarkably very well, I decided that I wanted a 5" screen model, so I have just obtained the Garmin Nuvi 50.
Have you purchased or used this model, or Garmin products in general, because I have just found that this model came with no instructions whatsoever, and that includes the AC power kit as an extra.
Reviews don't seem to mention this?.
Been onto Garmin, and basically its a case of downloading any information from their website or returning the item back to Argos. Not a very good solution.
Any information or advice appreciated, before I make a final decision.

Answer:Garmin Nuvi 50 Sat Nav Anyone?.

All you get with a Tom Tom is one 'quick guide' sheet but the on screen users guide is quite good. Same with the power supply - a USB lead and a car lighter plug.
Its a way to make them appear cheaper.

I've been using Garmin nuvi gps' for a long time now, lived having a dedicated unit. My current device is the nulink 1695, but it seems att has started turning out the lights. I'm no longer getting traffic data, and it's time to get a replacement. I have tried several of the free apps, and frankly, their not living up to the nuvi. I've got my eyes on both the Garmin street pilot app and the navigon apps, but they are pricey, and have either limited trials or no trial. Can someone who has used them give me some ideas how they operate? Reliable? Similarity to the nuvi?
I've looked at me nuvis, but they twitter two things for days transfer now, a Bluetooth connection (so hands free with the car is out), and the Garmin smart phone link app(ios/android). I've emailed Garmin about getting a windows phone app, the people in customer service seemed to have little intention of getting my request to where it needed to be.
I've invested$20 into copilot thus far, and only used it on short drives, it's ok, but doesn't quite live up to my nuvi imo.
Thanks for any help/guidance on this.

Answer:Garmin GPS replacement app

Did you try any of them?
I'm wondering the same.
I'm looking for a good navigation software as I think the features on Here maps are lacking.
Since they really don;t provide alternatives for routes.

Hi,
I have the problem that I purchased a Virgin Mobile Online Stick where you do not need a telephone jack, modem, router etc. or anything to go online, It's like, go online from everywhere, like at&t offers it too. Costs like 40-50 bucks a month.
But I cannot go online. i insalled the stick and when open the icon, it connects and says ready, but I cannot reach ANY site at all.
I saw in the network section that there is a little red x infront of the locale area connection and it always says, connect a cable. But this should not be the cae since you do not need any kind of cables with this stick.

A friend of mine and I had the same stick from at&t and it worked perfect. We just double clicked the at&t icon on the desktop, clicked connect and everythng was great and we used it to 100% in the car.

Can anyone help me what I'm missing or doing wrong?

PS: PC runs on Vista AND, when calling Virgin, they just tell you, that's not there problem because it shows that it is connected, which is true, but still cant reach ANY website

Thanks,
wizzle
