X220 BIOS Update issue

Question: X220 BIOS Update issue

Hi I recently flashed my BIOS (going from 1.26 -> 1.31) prior to installing Windows 7 x64 on a new SSD on my X220. The BIOS update seemed to work OK (I used the lenovo Windows utility to do it), but now I can't save any changes to any BIOS settings. I also cannot reset to defaults - I can't even select some options in the BIOS (e.g. anything to do with UEFI) - the cursor just skips over the lines on screen - and those I can select don't respond to any changes I try to make. I don't get any errors either in BIOS or in Windows, and my X220 boots OK, but obviously there's something wrong there. After updating the BIOS, I installed the SSD (a Samsung 830) and installed Windows on it - all this worked OK although I was planning to switch to UEFI for the new install and couldn't do so because the BIOS is now uneditable. Everything in Windows seems to work OK. I've tried re-running the BIOS utility but it reports that the BIOS is up to date and it won't re-apply the current update. I've checked to see if anyone else has reported this issue here, and found a few reports with similar issues but different situations (e.g. people running Linux rather than Windows, or Wifi not working after the update) - but not this issue exactly. I'm wondering if this will fix itself when a new BIOS version is released and applied - if that's likely, I'm happy to wait until then (so long as nothing breaks in the meantime). I'd rather do that than pull the CMOS battery (which has been recommended on a few similar threads on here) - but given that the BIOS seems to now be frozen on my machine I'm not sure if future updates will even work. Has anyone else seen this issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

Please try updating the Bios using bios.bak file which is created during bios update .
You need to locate the bios file folder on c drive , then find bios.bak rename it with FLASHABLNew.ROM
And click on winplash.exe , use Browse option to " Specify new Bios file " and select FLASHABLNew.ROM
Then click on flash bios , it will flash a message that the bios you are trying to update is older than current version , Press Yes to continue
Press Yes , If every thing goes well , your system will restart and you will have your old bios were you can modify or change any option
Now delete the folder which has the latest bios
Download the latest bios and try to flash to check if you are able to modify or change any option under Bios
Hope This HelpsCheers!!!

I regularly use Lenovo update to check for any new drivers/updates. After an update to bios 1.25, my computer attempted to reboot, but it never really shut down. After 15 minutes of just black screen, I pulled the battery to force it off. When I attempted to reboot, no POST, just black screen. The Thinklight and green lights will flash, but nothing happens. So, I called Lenovo, and went through some basic troubleshooting which did not help. This all happened on Sunday, January 29th.  On Monday, January 30th, I called Lenovo again, and they said it would take about 2 weeks to :- send me the box- I send my laptop in- They fix it- They ship it back to me. I couldn't afford to wait 2 weeks, so Lenovo suggested me to find a Business partner locally. Lenovo site led me to Microserve in Burnaby, BC, Canada. I dropped it off on Monday, and they called me back on Tuesday to let me know that the mainboard needs to be replaced and ETA for the part is February 2nd, Thursday. Work will take 1-2 business days. So I waited. No update on Thursday, Friday or Monday (February 6th).  I called Microserve and they then told me that the part is not available, and they have no idea when it will come. They said they will look into it. So, I called Lenovo directly and asked them to follow up with this business partner about the part order. Today, I received a call from Microserve, telling me that the part MAY arrive in 2 weeks, and they will fix it WHENEVER the... Did anyone try the latest version? I would like to install it, if it doesn't introduce any major new bugs. There seems to be a fix for the CPU throttling issue.

g'day! i see that v1.33 is available. my x220 came with v1.31 and is working ok, and, i'm usually in the "if it ain't broke..." camp especially on bios updates. looking at the readme though, i see: [Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue where specific hard disks might not be detected after resuming normal operation from standby/sleep state.- Fixed an issue where an unnecessary fan error message might be shown.- Fixed an issue where hang might happen at post with a certain USB HDD. which seem significant enough to convince me to update. has anyone who has done the update seen any good, or ill, effects? thanks!

Have not tried it because I'm still waiting for display brightness always set to max in BIOS screen fix.

Greetings I am unable to update the BIOS on the Thinkpad listed below. I have tried to run Boot CD version of the update program (using CD player in dock) and it reports the error: "The system program file is not correct for this system" The Windows based BIOS update program reports the error (in or out of dock): "The process does not recognize this system. The process has been cancelled" The Lenovo support page lists the new BIOS as being appropriate for this model. The BIOS reports the correct model and serial number. I desire to update the BIOS only as part of a software reload / refresh of the laptop. No actual problem with current BIOS to my knowledge. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thinkpad X220Model 4287 2VUCurrent BIOS 1.11 (8DET41WW) 2011-03-28Attempting to apply BIOS 1.37.1.24 (2013-02-06)

Answer:X220 - Unable to update BIOS

Hello,

Have you tried updating to a BIOS version somewhere inbetween the two versions?  Maybe there is an issue with the BIOS firmware being updated from such an old version to such a new version because some sort of interim version has to be loaded.

The other suggestion I have is to verify the model number on internal system board matches the model number on the external casing.

Try opening an elevated Command Prompt (filename: CMD.EXE) and issuing the following commands:

wmic.exe baseboard get product wmic.exe bios get name,serialnumber,version wmic.exe csproduct get vendor,name,identifyingnumber

The first command should return the motherboard brand and model.

The second command should return the BIOS version information, serial and version number.

The last command should return the system serial number, product name and manufacturer.

Hopefully, everything matches up with what appears to be present.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

I've made tha fresh system WIN7 instalation for X220 with the drivers update. Unfortunately, during the BIOS update the WIN update made the laptop restart and it failed something. After the laptop turned off it didn't start. Only the led on the power key leds, buy it doesnt want to start any more. I've taken off the power with the motherboard battery with no effect .What can I do start the laptop?

Answer:x220 dead after BIOS update

You have to replace the BIOS chip on the motherboard, but I don't know if these are soldered or not. But apparently here is one on eBay, so I assume they are not soldered: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIOS-Chip-IBM-LENOVO-THINKPAD-X220-/400580487162If you are looking for an alternative to replacing the BIOS chip, then you have to replace the motherboard, which is way more expensive. In this case you have to contact Tech Support. But having a technician replace the motherboard outside warranty is pricy.Replacing the BIOS chip is your best bet. If you are not a handy person or you don't have experience, order the BIOS chip and take your X220 and the BIOS chip to a computer store and have them replace it. Or call Tech Support and have them replace the motherboard.

If you are handy with computers, you could also repair your old BIOS chip by booting your X220 in a disassembled state with the new BIOS chip. Then when Windows has started you can remove the new BIOS chip and insert the old BIOS chip, then reflash the old BIOS chip. And then you have got a spare to sell. But again, you need to be very handy and very careful to do this, or you could end up killing your motherboard. I did this a few hundred times because I used to be a BIOS modder few years back when I still used to build high-end desktops.

X220 i7 2620m8GB DDR3 1866mghzIntel X25-E SSDIntel MSATA 80GB SSDWindows 7 Enterprise SP1---Decided to cleanup my X220 this past weekend, updated the bios, secure erased my SSDS, and tried to get the machine formatted.Since the Bios Update to 1.33\1.21, I have been tearing my hair out with a growing anger.I came from bios 1.24 and had my X25-E as my OS\boot SSD on UEFI, the 80gb MSATA as a storage SSD.The following issues have arisen...With the X220 to Legacy Only, I can boot to my external DVD-rom and launch the Windows 7 Installation media, It detects the SSD and will install the OS onto the SSD, after restart the machine hits the blue and grey boot menu.  To resolve this I have to hard-power the machine on and then off, only after a hard power on and off will the X220 detect my X25E again.I can then boot into windows, make changes, use the Operating System, but every time I reboot the X220 fails to see the X25E and my only choice is to hard power the machine.---If I try to use UEFI First\UEFI only, the machine will only post to the blue\grey boot menu\loader.  At this point I can see my external DVD drive, but it will not launch any CD\DVD in the drive.---Similar results are found when using a USB flash-drive.It seems clear to me that the only change is the BIOS Update, since the update the machine sometimes will not restart "Ctrl-alt-delete" and get past post with the SSD in the X220, it will stay paused at the "Thinkpad" logo startup screen and not progress.&nb... Hi everyone, Yesterday I've installed the latest BIOS Update (v1.39.1.24) via the System Update and since then my CPU is clocked at 800MHz top while on AC. The problem persists across OSes (Windows/Linux) which indicates the culprit is the BIOS update.I've tried downgrading to 1.38.1.24 which flashed O.K. but the problem remains. Tried re-updating the BIOS via the bootable CD option (with v1.39 from Lenovo's site) but the problem remains.Knowledge base says any BIOS post 1.21 is O.K. so that's not very helpful. I'd appreciate some help,Thanks!

This is a really strange issue.I had been using my laptop with the oriiginal 1.10 (or whatever the very first one was) BIOS until yesterday with no problems. I head that there were some important fixes in the newer BIOS versions so I updated to 1.25. Everything seemed to be working fine until I went to work and turned on my laptop. It kept  crashing before Windows would load (after the post screen but before any of the windows screens. It just stays black for a long time and then flashes a BSOD and restarts). I tried downgrading to BIOS 1.24 but the problem persisted. It turns out that it does this whenever I try to start the computer without it plugged into the ac adaptor. When it is plugged in it starts up as normal but when unplugged it won't boot into windows. Once Windows is loaded I can unplug it and nothing happens but I still can't restart it without plugging it back inHas anyone else encountered this problem? Is this a known issue? Any suggestions for what could be causing this strange behaviour? If I can't get it figured out right away I will have to try to downgrade to the original BIOS version.

Answer:x220 won't start up on battery power after BIOS update 1.24/1.25

Today I discovered that my laptop also wouldn't wake from sleep whether on ac power or not. I had to do a hard reset. Not sure why all the problems on the newer BIOS version but I reverted back to 1.11 and now everything is working great like before. I guess it it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Hi, I updated the BIOS on my x220 to version 1.17 and now the laptop wont boot. Just continuously reboots even few seconds, it doesn't even get to the Thinkpad logo. I downloaded the BIOS update utility directly from the lenovo website, did a restart logged in as administrator and ran the update. When it was finished I restarted the laptop and then it wouldn't boot. Lenovo support say that this is not covered under warranty. Is this correct? ThanksFitzer

Summary, my X220 fan is loud as heck and is driving me crazy! what happened:- Lenovo system update app tells me I need to get the latest BIOS- I download and install itA couple of days later...- I eject the laptop from the dock while the computer is on.- Suddenly the fan start running very loudly.- Now I'm back in the dock. Whenever I do something CPU intensive like load a new application or open a bunch of web tabs, the fans revs up again and it sounds realy loud and harsh like I've never heard it before. I tried downloading the TPFC (Thinkpad Fan Controller) app but it still gets loud and buzzy when it runs Any ideas how to resolve this? It's driving me crazy and I'd rather not buy a new laptop but that's my next best alternative

Since a few weeks my X220 is not able to make any changes to the  UEFI/BIOS settings. When trying to do so either any changes get silently ignored or I get one of the following error message while trying to save.  Security - Failed to save storage: Setup. Status: 0x9 Security - Failed to save storage: PwdStatusVar. Status: 0x9 Security - Failed to save storage: LocalSecurityVars. Status: 0x9 Didn't find anything on those errors here or on the web, unfortunately. This is with UEFI 1.19, unfortunately this problem even prevents me from upgrading to the latest release (this is a linux-only system, so no Windows-tools, also I had UEFI-only enabled in the settings when this happened, so the Update-CD won't boot). Also I had some parts of the hardware disabled when this started to appear, so can't reenable them anymore, which is pretty bad as you might imagine. Three notes:*) there is one exception to not being able to save, I can successfully set (and remove) a supervisor password, but that's all*) After the UEFI tries to save the settings there's a hang for 2-3 seconds, don't know if this is related.*) The time from pressing the power button until the X220 reaches the boot loader is significantly longer since this effect showed up Anyone got a clue what these errors are actually about? I thought about pulling the BIOS/UEFI battery and trying to force a reset of the settings that way. Is this safe or a bad idea?

Hi, Yesterday I apparently made a very costly error! On reading the changes associated with BIOS 1.21 for the x220 (improved system performance and boot time) I clicked yes and installed the update through System Update. After auto-rebooting to complete the flash, the system hung on shutdown for more than 5 minutes. Two hard resets later (to escape the same problem) and a standby request (Fn+F4) triggered the first blue screen I have seen on this machine. Since then, the laptop will not boot. The power light/thinklight turn on, as well as the speaker mute and mic mute buttons, but nothing else happens except the quiet whirr of the cooling fan. The screen has remained black ever since, as has my mood. Removing the RAM and SSD gave some beeps, but otherwise nada. Today I called the Lenovo support in Japan and had no problem finding out, to my horror, that Lenovo wants more than 50% of the laptop cost to replace the motherboard. They said that this repair is in the same category as a water damage repair and that they will not cover it under warranty. I am saddened by this since I clicked on an update recommended by Lenovo through Lenovo's System Update software, I did not carelessly tip coffee into the machine. At no point did I see a warning saying that a failed BIOS update is not covered by the warranty, nor can I find this in the US warranty terms. Perhaps things are different here in Japan? Any advice, suggestions, or even commiserations, w... Read more

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/bios/satellite/4030-4060-100/bios_820.zip

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.
Thanks.

Bastien.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

Hi

I'm having trouble flashing my bios.
I have a Satellite Pro L40-15A.

The Toshiba winflash tool that comes with the bios file tells me that the 'Old BIOS can't recognise EEPROM'

I was recommended to use AFUDOS on another forum but that tells me the bios has an invalid boot block.

AMI flas for dos tells me the flash rom is write-protected??? There is no option in bios to disable it and I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to put a hardware Bios protect jumper on a laptop.

Please help

Thx

Well, I chose the boot as "legacy bios only" after receiving the x220. I did a clean install of Win7 ultimate 64bits (which means the setting soft provided by Lenovo does not work) and then updated the BIOS to 1.15. After all these, the machine runs mostly fine but I noticed that I could not log into the BIOS setup any more. Pressing F1\F2\F12\thinkVamtage when the bootup screen shows up (press thinkVantage bottom....), and nothing happens. It does not beep as it did before and does not respond to the buttom press. That means I could not choose bootup device either - it will log into Windows from HDD no matter how you tried to boot from other devices. Any ideas on the problem? And I guess resetting the BIOS might solve the problem, but how? Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Can not log into x220 BIOS? How to reset BIOS setting without entering BIOS setup?

Try turning the system completely off, then power it on and press F1.I've seen strange cases where pressing F1 doesn't work on a warm boot.  It always works on a cold boot.

Hi guys. I'm having a bit of a problem updating my BIOS. I have a MSI P45 Platinum MB. I have downloaded the new BIOS, but the files dont seem to fit the programs i use. The files i download are files that have extensions equal to their version number, for instance; A7512IMS.110, where "110" is the extension as well as the version number. The update programs on the other hand, seems to want to get a hold of *.rom-files. I've googled my *** off, but cant find any good explanations. I cant seem to get an understanding of what these *.rom-files even are.

I expect people to recommend MSI Live Update 3 etc, but I'm having problems installing the application. When trying to exec "Liveupdate.exe", I see a bar, and when it is finished, my mouse cursor turns into an hourglass for about 5 sec, and nothing more happens. I even unpacked the *.exe-file which is an archive, and tried to execute the setup.exe, but still nothing.

I'm running WinXP Sp3. I dont have a floppy-station as this is a brand new computer, and im not sure if I can get a hold of a bootable USB-device.

Cheers!

Answer:P45 BIOS update issue

I realize that the machine probably doesn't have a floppy drive installed., but have you checked to see if the board itself has a FDD socket? The P-45 chipset is enabled for FDD, but I'm not familiar with your particular board to know if it's been implemented.

If it is, it's an easy (and reasonably inexpensive matter) to buy a floppy drive, take the side off the computer and flash your BIOS to your heart's content.

FDDs (all brands) run about eight bucks at Newegg. Annoyingly, the shipping charges are about the same. Here's a Sony; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16821103116

BIOS updates can be risky and aren't really suggested if they're not absolutely necessary. So, is this one necessary?

Hi,
I have an issue when trying to update the BIOS of my Z30-A-12R.
I have installed currently the bios version 2.6. My computer had to be reformatted and all the programs re-installed. When reinstalling utilities the ECO utility could not be installed due to the incompatibility with the bios version I am using.
When trying to update the bios, the new version is 4.2 but when trying to download it and apply it, it says that my computer is not supported.
Is there any way to update the bios? Why do I have a problem with the new version?
Thanks for your help.

Answer:BIOS Update Issue on Satellite Z30-A-12R

If you have Win7: Install Toshiba Value Added Package.
If you have Win8/10: install Toshiba System Driver and System Settings.

Hi.I just used the Lenovo System Update -software to update the bios to version 2.69, as recommened by the System Update. After update the laptop doesn't boot to POST, if I have both of my ram chips installed, (the original 4GB and 2GB installed about 2 years ago). There are no boot issues if the 4GB chip is the only one installed. I can't access to bios, if the both of the chips are installed: Black screen, fan running quietly, power led on, wireless led on, no beeps. I'm also pretty sure that my previous bios was at least a few years old. Before the bios update, the total memory of 6GB worked fine and all of it was available in Windows 7 pro 64bit. Can something be done to enable both of the chips in bios? I couldn't found anything obviously related to this in bios. My guess is that this new bios doesn't support my different memory chips. Flashing the bios back to some older versions feels risky to me, as the machine was dead for a week, until I finally figured out that the second ram is causing this. Any tips? Many thanks.

Answer:T430 RAM issue after BIOS update

Welcome to the forum!

I would try removing the 2GB RAM module and doing the following:

Go to the BIOS
Load the setup default values (press F9)
Save and exit (Press F10)
Turn off the laptop
Put the 2GB RAM module back and reboot

One more question, does the T430 boot to BIOS with only the 2GB module?

Hi! I updated the BIOS of three T430 while re-installing Windows 7. They're all Bios 2.67, but since that moment, the extra 2gb's of RAM are not supported anymore...The T430's just won't boot, just black screens.Wen I remove the RAM sticks, they work just fine. What the hell is wrong here? I tried resetting the BIOS to its defaultsThe RAM slots are NOT faulty because they worked with the previous BIOSThe RAM sticks are NOT faulthy either as they worked just perfect before the BIOS upgrade.I even tried different RAM sticks, but still no differenceAny help?Never seen this before...

Hello, I have confused with the "latest" system update on my bios. System update was told: I've got a new bios update option. I didn't see any information about the versions. Only some letters, like 68af03. Ok, I closing my eyes and keept the faith in Lenovo's update. After it was successed the original file (backup from original bios) not existed, but requested before update process. And other functionality bug, the upgrade was a downgrade, and I blame the programmer's stupidity who never knows the difference some letters. At current time, Lenovo's support have to say a big silent, they never answered any questions. Or, my option is to spend some money to supporting the software errors (machine works, but with the older bios than I was checked before)  - it is very unacceptable (or we must do some errors again and customers will spend more money to our safari on holyday) . Downloads not helped, the older (very old! - I think that bios version loaded on Flintstone's notebook first) bios can be found. how to resolve this issue? can anyone send a newest bios (for 0769-BAG)? regards

Hi, I have a problem while trying to update the X201 (3680BD4) BIOS to version 1.17 (6QET47WW) under WinPE 3.0. System is currently running BIOS version 1.16. After loading the battery driver and running WINUPTP.EXE I receive "The exception uknown software exception (0xc000000d) occurred in the application at location 0x00454d94. Click on OK to terminate the program" error message. I downgraded the BIOS to version 1.15 (it took 30 minutes!!!), and then tried again, but I stil receive the same error message. I supspected it to be a faulty laptop, so I got another brand new replacement and... the same error appears. The funny thing is that this BIOS update worked a week ago! Now I can't get it running because of this error. Any clues?

I tried to update the BIOS from our Latitude E5450 systems from A12 to A13 with a command line, distributed by our SCCM, but it does not install the BIOS, though I get a 'succeeded'  return message.
On shutdown and a boot later on, it still says 'A12'.When trying to do a reboot aftwerwards, still no effect. On immediate* reboot after the Install, it installs the 'A13' update.(*immediately: being the first shutdown/reboot action after the BIOS installation)
I though it could be a Windows 10 'fastboot' issue so I disabled that option, but still, when choosing 'shut down' after the succesfull BIOS update, it does not update the BIOS on the next boot.

The command line I use is:A13.exe /s /f /p=xxxxx /l="C:\Temp\BIOS.txt" /forceit

I have a Lenovo ideapad 100S 11IBY, and today I could not log in to windows 10 after its BIOS update (to the latest version) It just keeps wanting me to input bitlocker recovery key, but I could not find it on my microsoft account website, and actually even I don't remember whether I did set up my bitlocker recovery key or not. I'd been to 'windows.microsoft.com/recoverykeyfaq' as intructed on the screen and followed all directions, also had been to the BestBuy that I'd purchased it but nothing helps. I love my laptop and I have done my best to keep the device good. I feel very sad that I cannot use my PC during this weekend. I don't want to reset my laptop.  Anyone knows how to solve this problem ??

Posted on the lenovo website in the ideapad update section is a link to a BIOS update.  This update is unfortunately an old update for many models of the Y510.  CAUTION do not install this update if you already have the xxx30xxxx version of the BIOS: 06CN30WW.ROM If you have updated the BIOS and you get the "bsod" with the message: Unsupported wireless network device detectedSystem Halted. Then you must power down and remove the plate on the back of the laptop and remove the miniPCI Intel Wireless Card. This card is about 1.25" x 2" and has two screws.  Unscrew it and carefully unplug the 3 mini RF cables noting the left to right - white / grey / black positions. Put the plate back on the laptop.  Power up. Follow the original instruction set but with the new 06CN30WW.ROM http://cid-37b4e30108c1d77a.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Y510%20BIOS/06CN30WW.ROM Re install the wireless card and power up. Problem solved.  Note that there have been other postings related to this issue but I thought I would add it again because the other instructions were a little scattered. Good luck.Message Edited by ryanhi on 09-10-2008 04:47 AM

Dear All,

Satellite A200-1z3

I have the same problem as many of you already discribed here. After Downgrading to Win XP I have found out that part of the functions activated by FN button do not work, eg FN+ F2 , FN+ F6, FN+F7, FN+F8, FN+F9, FN+ F12, FN+ 1, FN+ 2, FN+ TAB.

I read through this forum and found out that you can solve this problem be reinstalling BIOS. When I was trying to download BIOS from website it requires Pass and Login which I dont have. Though do you have any suggestion of do I download it from there?

If not How I can activate keboard light FN+F2 and scroll pad Lock FN+ F9 without FN button.

Thank you very much

Did you use the right Toshiba driver page???
You story sounds strange for me because I have visited the Toshiba European page and have chosen your model; Satellite A200-1z3 PSAE3E.

And I was able to download the BIOS 5.60-WIN.

So maybe you should try again? I?m sure it will work!

I have done a clean install of Windows 10 Pro on a Precision 3600 and everything works great except the bios will not update. I have tried by just installing the file, using Dell precision optimizer, and all gets stuck on the restart phase. Is there any suggestion on getting the PC to update the BIOS ?

Thank you.

Answer:Precision T3600, BIOS Update issue

What BIOS version is currently installed? What BIOS version are you trying to install? You should install them in order, oldest to newest.

Note, I only update the BIOS to fix a specific issue. I never update the BIOS just because there is a new one listed.
Desktop Instructions =- Disconnect all peripherals from the desktop except for monitor, mouse, and keyboard- Close all unnecessary applications- Download the BIOS to the windows desktop- Run the BIOS- You must allow the BIOS itself to restart the computer. Do NOT force a restart manually. This could break the motherboard

Hello. I recently had an issue - my keyboard dock stopped working entirely and I had the fan issue. I installed the firmware update and also updated my bios - with success, the keyboard dock now works., The first time I restarted my Helix 3xxx series.... it didn't work. The issue I received is on windows 8.1. I loaded, logged in... and received a black screen. The cursor was there, and I could do CTRL-ALT-DEL, but nothing else loaded. I looked it up, and previous lenovo laptops had this issue when upgraded to 8.1 - black screen, cursor, nothing else. The issue with those laptops was with an AMD display driver - but I do not possess said driver. After going through their solutions many times, nothing works. I can run it in safe mode with networking, but trying to run standard is without fail. I updated my display drivers with no luck. I don't know what caused it besides the apparent bios/firemare update. I do not know what else to try. I can't even do a system restore because I dont have a USB drive to do it with.

Hi,I have a Pavilion HPE h8-1330z with an Angelica2 motherboard, AMD FX-8120 CPU, 16GB RAM, and An2_705 BIOS. I recently upgraded the power supply to a 600W model to accomodate a replacement upgraded graphics card for my original ATI Radeon HD 7570.So far I have tried a Sapphire Nitro R7-360 (2GB GDDR5) and an XFX R7-360 (2GB GDDR5) and when I install either card, I get no video out to either monitor when I boot; no BIOS message, nothing. However, if I put the HD 7570 back in, it works perfectly. Tech Support for both companies have no idea what is going on.I highly doubt 2 cards from 2 different manufacturers and sources could be dead out of the box.  I can only surmize that maybe a BIOS update might be requiired. If anyone has any ideas, I am listening.

Answer:Is there a BIOS update that might fix my graphics card issue...

Jenny, welcome to the forum. I believe you absolutely correct.  The video cards are not dead out of the box.  They simply require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  There is no way to upgrade a standard BIOS to UEFI.  I am surprised that Tech Support for both companies weren't aware of this situation.  I suggest contacting EVGA Tech Support (1-888-881-3842) to see which of their cards will work with your motherboard.  They have always been very helpful when I have contacted them for help. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Hello Everyone,
I updated my P3620 bios yesterday to v2.3.0 and since my SATA PowerVault RD1000 has quit working.  I can see it in the bios as a "Dell" drive, but Windows 10 can't detect it.  It may be being caused by the bios drive controller being set to "RAID ON" instead of AHCI.  I can't remember if it originally was set to AHCI, or not.  If I try to change to AHCI, windows won't load and tries to go into repair mode.  Switching back to RAID ON, and system boots fine, but no RD1000.
Just to rule out a freak hardware issue, I have swapped out the SATA cable and RD1000 with spares, but no joy.  External USB RD1000 works fine.
So, any ideas?  Is there a way to roll the BIOS back?  Should I switch to a gluten-free diet?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,
Steve

Hi all

I was updating BIOS on TOSHIBA SATELLITE C660-13R from windows 7 64 bits. Downloaded driver from toshiba web. Half way the installation laptop freezes. I have left it for 40 mins to run but it did not get back to normal state. As motherboard fan has started to move on high speed I decided to take battery out. In result when I power back my laptop I have 1 beep from the motherboard and black screen.

Can some one help me please ?

Answer:Satellite C660-13R - BIOS update issue

Obviously the BIOS update procedure has failed. Something went wrong during the update process and it looks like the EMRPOM module has not been flashed properly.
This is the reason why the notebook does not work anymore.

Possible solution?
Well, if EMPROM isn?t damage, it should be possible to re-flash the BIOS module once again using special BIOS version and BIOS crisis disk.
Usually the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country should be able to re-flash the module using such crisis disk.

I read also in this forum that some people managed to re-flash the EPROM module using some 3rd party crisis disk found somewhere in the internet? but this did not work always?
So probably the ASP will be your last resort?

However, use the forums advanced search option to find related threads about the BIOS crisis disk? could be interesting for you

Not sure which version it was (2.51 probably - it was the one released specifically with this fix). This fix worked well, and BSOD almost disappeared. However, after another BIOS upgrade to 2.52, the issue is back with a vengeance! BSOD appears very frequently when the power cable is removed. Not sure if I should do a rollback?!

Hi, I have an issue to update BIOS of my M93p Desktops by an USB Key, I create a DOS Bootable USB Key with the software Rufus (FreeDos) and I copy all files of the flash update program in FBJTxxUSA.ZIP to my DOS bootable memory key. I powered up the system and made sure that my device with the flash program is selected as a boot device.  When I ran the Bios update, I have this error message :I tried with the Bios update by Bootable CD, I have the same issue. Could you help me to find a solution, I can not use the Windows Flash tool, I must use an USB Bios update. Thank you for your help.

Answer:Issue to update BIOS of my M93p Desktops by USB Key

At the very bottom of the BIOS support page for your system are links to the previous version, try upgrading to it, then to the latest.

Also, please check your model number, there is no M96p.

Hi,

i have a problem with *BIOS* update on my Toshiba *U500-1D8-PSU9ME*.
Currently the BIOS is +v1.50+, but on this page http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=EU
i found new version +v1.90+. (I know, that updating BIOS should be not done when no problems occurrs, but i have time-to-time some problems with starting etc...)

When i start the update *UBIOS.bat* nothing happens, but the thread from *WinFlash.exe* is running on background.

What can i do? I found this manual http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm but it isn't helpfull.
Any idea?

Thanks,
Regards

Answer:Satellite U500-1D8 - BIOS update issue

Hi

If you have downloaded the BIOS v1.90 then you have to unzip (unpack) this package firstly. Inside the package you will find the BIOS190.exe
You have to execute this exe file.

You are saying that WinFlash.exe is running on background?. Well, try to close this process and start then start the update again?
You could also reboot the unit and could try to start the procedure once again

Recently installed the latest BIOS update with the Intel security patch and now I'm unable to use bitlocker to encrypt the drive as it states "The TPM on this computer does not work with the current BIOS. Contact the computer manufacturer for BIOS upgrade instructions".
Bios version 1.14.4.00
Another laptop with the previous release, also a E5570, is able to use bitlocker with no issues. Several different E5570's we have with the new BIOS version cannot be encrypted. Please advise.

I've been having USB errors as well as the internal cardreader appearing and disappearing from being recognized by my system so I thought I'd update the BIOS.  I currenlty have BIOS P01-A2 and was trying to upgrade to P03-A3. I tried both Windows method as well as from DOS but both fail to update the BIOS.  I've updated BIOS in the past for multiple different types of motherboards and have never had any issues with simple bios updates.  Someone please advise.  Thanks!

We deployed ~50 HP ProDesk 600 G1's in the enterprise environment I work at.  We have them set to auto-update the BIOS and we deployed a BIOS password.  Every time there is a BIOS update pushed by HP when the machines reboot they appear like they are trying to PXI boot and hang.  Are there any ways to allow the auto-update without providing the password or to just boot normally?

Hello,

I've recently installed Windows 10 on Ideapad Y510 and everything went well drivers and all, but I also did an bios update which I think bricked the laptop.
There was nothing but black on the screen, no bios beep or fan spinning.

After this I attempted a BIOS flash(Pulled the batter, plugged in the USB did the FN + R combo and after 30 seconds of BIOS beeps I get the attached screen).

Has anyone ever seen this before?

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know, that after updating to the latest bios firmware, my U330 said, that it could not find any boot devices. The solution is pretty straight forward, just enter the bios (which is Fn + F2, even if you changed the Fn thingy before). I think, the only thing I changed was, using legacy instead of UEFI and that worked. Kinda strange since especially the windows 8 bootloader should support uefi. Just wanted to let you guys know, in case you experience the same issue.

Hi All,

I tried to update the BIOS with this version.
It is strange, the procedure given in Knowledgebase were not useful.
When unzipping, it gives only one file.
There is no WinPlash page; it goes directly to Inside Flash page.
But, BIOS version was changed to 2.10 before it is 1.10.

Have I done correctly?
Need your help.

Thanks...

Just got my HP Envy 15 x360, I have to say its really great. However, when I noticed there's a light being emmitted (leaked) on the top left corner of the screen. It's very noticeable during bootup because the background is black. I then searched the HP site to search for answers and after looking at the driver/software section for this device, I saw a BIOS update with the description "Fixes an issue which causes which causes light to be emitted (leak) from the corner of the display panel". After installing it, the light leak still shows. The BIOS version on my laptop shows F.21. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's the link to the BIOS update

I decided to update my drivers and BIOS this morning. My laptop encountered an error during BIOS update and I was stuck in Automatic Repair.

1. I tried restarting the laptop several times.
2. I tried system restore which worked after my second try. The problem is Windows applications like Calendar, Mail, Cortana are not working. It doesn't run and the application is grayed out.
3. So I tried resetting Windows, remove everything which was not successful. Problem got worse, I got stuck on the Dell logo.
4. I ran Diagnostic. No hardware issue found.
5. I tried booting from my bootable USB which contains Windows OS. But my laptop is unable to detect it in BIOS.
5. I read some forums and learned about Legacy vs UEFI and Secure Boot. I disabled the Secure Boot and enabled Legacy ROMS. My laptop was able to boot from the USB and I was able to reinstall Windows 10.

Now, the problem is I want to change it back to UEFI with Secured Boot.
From what I gather, I should do the following:
1. Download Windows OS
2. Make a bootable USB in UEFI mode and GTP partition
3. Change laptop to UEFI mode while Secure Boot is disabled.
4. Re install Windows 10

Am I going in the right direction? Please help me.

I recently updated my Inspiron 3451 bios from A00 to A05, and the update finished successfully, no errors or interruption during the update. But here is the problem, when the laptop was still in bios version A00, it load the windows quickly after i switched on the laptop, and after it updated to version A05, i have to stuck on the dell logo for about 8-10 seconds, waiting, without windows loading animation or any harddrive activity (from fn+h combination), but after that, the windows loading animation comes up and system start quickly.
i have tried everything, resetting the bios, updating the drivers and windows, and even reinstalling the windows, but still. It's truly annoying to wait for that long, although the laptop works well for daily use. Is there any workaround for this problem? i'm thinking about downgrading the bios to A00.

My computer is a year old. It was completely fine until I noticed it had stopped charging the battery. After some googling I found there might be a BIOS update I had missed. When trying to install the BIOS update I get a message saying I have to plug in my computer first (which it always is as the batter doesn't have a charge).

The BIOS update program says it wants to upgrade as follows:

BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.60 --> Updated Ver.3.20
EC Version : Current Ver.1.80 --> Updated Ver.1.90

OS: Windows 7
BIOS file I downloaded: bios-20110714132558

Is this a known issue with a fix available?

Answer:Tecra S11-119 won't recharge battery - BIOS update issue too!

Hi

Are you sure that you have downloaded and used the right BIOS version!?
I read about the similar error message and finally the user used not compatible BIOS.

Furthermore the VAP (value added package) should be installed in order to update the BIOS!!! In you case I would recommend reinstalling this tool too.

But I?m not quite sure if BIOS update will help you to fix the battery issue?
Maybe you need to replace the battery?

Hello, I have two issues with my laptop.

First is related to keyboard. It started few days ago, laptop has shutted down because of low battery, when I turned it on again, I've received a malfunction of keyboard.
The key problem is that when i typing for ex 4, it appears on screen as r4, and so on for some other keys.
I'v searched through web that it possibly can be because of BIOS. And decided to update current version.

And here comes second problem:
I've downloaded bios update from toshiba site, and tried to install it, but it stops on last step, something about region.
Could somebody please help with issues?

Answer:Keyboard and BIOS update issue on Satellite L505-13V

What message you received exactly? Was this message Windows based or what exactly?
Of course it could be a keyboard malfunction but software malfunction as well. Easiest way to check this is connecting an external keyboard.

> I've downloaded bios update from toshiba site, and tried to install it, but it stops on last step, something about region.
Where did you download this update exactly? Was this update especially for Satellite L500-13V and PSLJ0E model series?

I have for 1.5 years a Toshiba Satellite L40-14F PSL4CE.
I encounter the error of LOW CMOS battery but I was unable to find it in order to replace it. Where is it positioned?

Second problem: After a BIOS update (the version from the site) with the same setting in Windows XP, after I let the lid down and then back up the notebook hesitates for about 2 seconds and the music stops. These problems were not present before the BIOS update.

Thank you for cooperation.

Answer:Satellite L30-14F - CMOS battery low and issue after BIOS update

Hello

BIOS battery can be replaced by authorized service only. to do this the whole notebook must be disassembled. By the way: check user?s manuals. There you will find info how to load BIOS battery.
If I remember well the notebook must be connected to AC adapter over 48 hours. Check it in manuals.

Maybe is my English bad but I don't understand second ?problem?.
Can you please try to explain it again? Sorry.

Hi Folks,    I have a spectre X360 and I am really happy with it.  Great product.  I recently updated the bios and it was really nice to be rid of the glowing keyboard light LED. There is an issue that has popped up though which is incredibly frustrating, like incredibly annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.  The keyboard response to typing a double letter (such as the t in letter) has gone down.  In other words my typing speed is now limited because the keyboard isn't as sensitive as it was prior to the bios update.  Does anyone know of a setting somewhere where I can increase the sensitivity of the keyboard so I'm not constantly going back to correct a missing double letter?  Please! argh it sucks so bad.  It has ruined my experience with this machine.  -Sam

Windows 10 has been running fine for some time, but attempt to update to Anniversary fails. The update runs fine until the point after restart where it states "The machine will restart several times"; soon into that sequence when  attempting a restart, the machine switches itself off instead. When I then switch it back on manually, the update is lost and the system resets itself to the previous Windows version.A Microsoft technician worked for hours before concluding that I would have to do a full, clean WIndows 10 installation, after which all files and applications would be lost and needed to be reinstalled. I have been wondering if the faulty restart behaviour is related to the BIOS somehow, and I have had it reinstalled from HPs site with no change. So, my questions areCan BIOS be the cause? Btw, I have turned the fast restart option (under power schemes) off.I note that I got a "legacy" BIOS installed. Is UEFI available for this laptop, and would that make a difference? If I do install UEFI, will Windows 10 and applications run as before or could other issues arise?

hello, after the bios and driver update from the long thread about the problems with the switchable graphics, the computer is more silent than before. before, i noticed the fan going on every now and the for just a short time, and at first i was happy that it was not making this a little bit disturbing noise and i thought it was just more constant but slower. but sometimes it just seems to stay off completey, causing the laptop to get really warm under the left hand (somewhere around the A key). when this happens and i reboot the computer, it notices instantly that something's wrong and the fan runs fully and cools down the laptop in like one minute. does someone else have this strange and maybe dangerous behaviour and is there a way to make any settings in bios or drivers to let the temperature stay low? thanks for any help!

Question: Did the keyboard illumination work from the first day of purchase?

If yes, the issue is not realted to BIOS.

Secondly: the illumination can be enabled and disabled in BIOS.
Did you check the settings there?

Thirdly: did you check something in the software?
Possibly the reinstallation of VAP (value added package) would be helpful

Answer:Satellite L100 doesn't boot up - BIOS update issue

Hi there,

if bios had been corrupted, then it will leave you with no option but to bring it to an Authorized Toshiba Repair Center.

Updating the bios is really risky, It should not even be interrupted. The Bios is responsible in Identifying and Initialization of the system component hardware (such as the video display card, hard disk, and floppy disk) If this is corrupted then you might just really get a black screen.

Hope this will help you :)

Hi all,Warm way for a first post, huh?I'll be concise because I'm not in a good mood right now.Because I'm an idiot, I decided to update the BIOS in my Y510. I went to Lenovo's site, and started inputting "Notebooks & Handhelds" > "IdeaPad Y510," 7758 for the type (I believe its the only one listed). There was no 7758-Q__ number on my notebook ANYWHERE (including the box), and the auto-detect application says "INVA-LID" (lol). The type is actually 15303 (which is an option if you go to http://consumersupport.lenovo.com, but the problem is true there, too). Anyways, I downloaded the BIOS update 06CN29WW. I ran it, but I noticed when I was at the EasyFlash utility, it listed the current version as being 4/21/08 version 06CN30W. Being an idiot and not thinking much of it, I flashed it anyways. Upon reboot,"Unsupported wireless network device detected. The system has halted." Great.I removed the wifi card (and its the original wifi card, too) and it boots right up. Here's the problem: I can't find the right BIOS file (06CN30WW) ANYWHERE. The latest update on lenovo's site (http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/893.html) is 06CN29WW (3-21-08), but its listed as 4-21-08. 06CN30WW is the 4-21-08; the old version is listed on Lenovo's site as the new version mistakenly. If anyone who has the power to is reading this, please PLEASE update the download to be the proper version. Until then, my laptop is either inoperable completely or teth... Read more

Hi, I have an H430 upgraded to Win 10 Pro. it is a25581Zu model. The BIOS reports it is ECKT24A from Sept 2012. The website lists ECJY24AUS from Dec 2012. The instructions say it is 32 bit and to download the CD ISO and boot to it but there isn't one. So I ran the update in Windows and it appears to work. I shut it down and on rebooting, it goes to the LENOVO splash screen, then shuts itself down for 5 seconds, then starts up again and has the original bios. The reason I'm doing this is I have a Geforce GTX 460 I want to put in. I have already upgraded the PSU to a Corsair 650 so everything should work just fine. Does anyone have any experience or insight on this?

I also have the blank screen problem and I would like to update my bios from the 1.30 version it came with.
The problem I have is that I have a model A210 part number PSAFGC.
The support bulletin 98082422 for the Bios update doesn't mention my part number exactly and I can't find anything for my model.
The 2 updates are to 1.70 and 1.90. I have read the text from both of these and they seem quite different.
Not sure what to do. Here is the bulletin info.

Resolution:

Update the computer's BIOS to fix this problem, by clicking the appropriate link for your computer model from the following list.

- Satellite A210 / A215, Part No. PSAFGU: BIOS version 1.70
- Satellite A210 / A215, Part No. PSAEGU and PSAELU: BIOS version 1.90
- Satellite Pro A210 / A215, Part No. PSAFHU: BIOS version 1.70
- Satellite P200D / P205D, Part No. PSPBLU and PSPBQU: BIOS version 1.40

he computer's Part No. is printed on a label on the underside of the case.

Any help??

I need to update bios version from 1.10 to 1.58 today, and i download last bios cd iso version labelled j4uj53wd.iso, i burned cd with imgburn and from windows 7 burning software, and cd is booting from bios menu but i saw a message just before Main menu bios... unable to control A20 line xms driver is not installed!.... after this message i get Main menu bios with chooses 1..2..3...  and i choose 2 update system program, press Y, red windows error message appear, the system program was not found on the cd.  Insert the correct cd in the drive.  I tried to different cd burned with two different burning software and the same error coming back all the time.  I really need to update bios because i have some LAN PXE boot failed and other littles bugs to fix.  I think that no rom file inside the update file iso, and no XMS driver (a20 control line!) present causing error update file was not found on cd.Thanks to help me and bring a fast correction.Alain Carignan from Compugen INC.

Answer:L440 (20AS) bios update issue about last one from february 20th 2014 (v1.58)

Things to try:
1.  go into BIOS setup
2.  go the Security menu -> Secure Boot and make sure secure boot is disabled
3.  go to the Startup menu, change the option for "UEFI/Legacy Boot" to "Legacy only"
4.  press f10 to save and exit

Does the BIOS update CD work now?

If not, try changing step 3 to set "UEFI only" and retry

Hi All,

Really hoping someone can help me with this.

My old HDD was failing so i cloned the entire drive before it failed. - Just in time too.

I ordered a new drive - its a WD scorpio black - Advanced format.

Unfortunately I'm unable to recover my image to this new drive.

Also I'm unable to do a re-install with the original recover cd also as it doesn't have service pack 1 and that means it cant recognise the HD either.

Anyway id prefer to be able to restore my image and not do a re-install anyway if possible.

So my question is this:

Is there a bios update i can apply to my pc other than the 2.00 version which is available that will include options for changing the disk options from ide - ahci ?

This is the only fix i can think of - bearing in mind i don't have an OS installed so alignment tools are not an option also another fix; the - Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers wont work as i have an AMD athlon processor.

So is there any BIOS i can flash my computer with to enable mentioned options?

I do have a method to flash the bios with an OS so that's not a problem.

Also any other suggestions to get a work-around on this more than welcome.

Thanks : )

Hopefully this will make the BIOS update process a bit easier.  The following steps address two common questions (Failed BIOS Update and the Windows message about improperly configured Secure Boot).  NOTE: After a successful BIOS update you will want to check additional items in the BIOS not directly covered in the steps below (e.g. Intel Virtualization.... the update disabled this for me.) U430 BIOS Update Procedure: 1. Download the BIOS update from Lenovo (it will be in .exe format... the program will install new BIOS).2. Shut down computer.3. Use the "Novo" button (tiny button on left side near Power button).4. Enter BIOS setup.5. Under "Security" select "Secure Boot" and choose "DISABLED" (this allows the BIOS update program to work properly).6. Under "Exit" select "Exit Saving Changes".7. Computer will reboot. Log in to Windows (it will have a message stating "Secure Boot not configured properly" this is expected).8. Run the Lenovo BIOS program (this will reboot the computer and you should see an update status screen). Once finished, the computer will reboot. Log in to Windows (the "Secure Boot" message will still be there) and then turn the computer OFF (I've found that turning off the computer from the log-in screen doesn't completely shut down the computer. If that's the case then hold the Power button until it does shut down).9. Use the "Novo" button and enter BIOS setup.10. Under "Security" make sure "Secure Boot" is ENABLED.11. Also under "Secur...
