x220 Shipped with outdated drivers (slow WiFi)

Question: x220 Shipped with outdated drivers (slow WiFi)

My brand new x220 was shipped with an outdated driver for the installed wireless card (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN). This resulted in extremely slow wireless browsing. After spending 4 hours changing settings on my laptop and wireless router I finally called tech support. They revealed the outdated driver, and showed me where to download the update. This solved the browsing problem. I understand keeping drivers updated is important, but I didn't expect a brand new computer to use two-year old drivers. It's like Lenovo shipped a laptop with "some assembly required, but didn't include the instructions. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: x220 Shipped with outdated drivers (slow WiFi)

So did my old Dell long time ago. It happens and no biggie to install the new updated ones.Your X220 has an driver update in Lenovo device experience when you click on Start > Click on Lenovo Device Experience > click on Update and drivers. This will guide you in downloading any newer drivers.... Of course there maybe newer ones just coming out and the update site takes a while to catch up

I use a program called, "Driver Booster" and Slimdriver along with Windows, I do updates when it tells me. I have a realtek Ethernet & soundcard.

When I look at Driverbooster, it informs me all of my drivers are updated relevant to Realtek. However, slimdriver tells me they are not updated. When I used windows 10 (Drivers Update) it tells me everything is updated. I've tried to use slimdriver to update everything in the picture. However, it is not working.

I believe I need to update things though I am not sure what to do - I hope that makes sense?

Essentially all I want to do is be 100% sure all drivers are updated. What am I doing wrong?

A few weeks ago I've ordered a repacement battery via https://lenovobattery2014.orderz.com/ A couple days later I've recieved a package, but when I opened up, I've found that the battery is not compatible with my Thinkpad x220. I've checked it's P/N and it seems that they shipped me a battery for x240 or x240t. I've send a few emails on different Lenovo adresses about it, but it didn't work out:Local support (I live in Russia) told me that they do not deal with replacement battery program. My emails to global support were left unrepled (I've tried [email protected][email protected]) What should I do? If that's relevant, I've bought my thinkpad in US.

Good Day, I purchased a New Thinkpad X220 from a US store and shipped it to Singapore. I had the shipping invoice and the proof of import but Lenovo Service Centre wants the Official Invoice from the company. I'm trying to contact the company that sold me the machine last year to send me an official invoice, but they have been responding but slightly delayed with their responses. Does it honestly matter if the machine was not purchased from an authorised distributor and just a regular online store? The machine honestly came in original packaging with no signs of tampering at all. The machine itself has no issues of tampering whatsoever. Warranty dates had no issues and this is NOT a refurbished machine SERIAL NO: R9***** . The only issue is that its registered as a USA machine but I have it here in Singapore. So my question is this, with the Official Invoice from the company and the Import Taxes ( i.e.. GST ) receipts to indicate that all duties were paid... Do you think that Lenovo would accept this? I read their Warranty Limitations Documentation and IWS documentation, It wasn't mentioned that an authorised dealer is required. I did pay all taxes legitimately and declare this machine through customs when shipping it in. Thank You for your time A Worried user who has his Thinkpad in for Service. Eyan  ASEAN (Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillippines,        Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam)Customer... Answer:X220 Warranty Purchased in US Shipped to SG, What's Really Required?

Since the rule is already stipulated as such for ASEAN countries, and it is there to prevent people grey importing cheaper ThinkPad laptop from the USA into countries where the ThinkPad RRP are substantially higher. As such, without those necessary documentations as stipulated in the terms and conditions for international warranty, the only way to obtain warranty for your machine is to send it back to the country of original purchase. International warranty on ThinkPads are there for people whom travel with their laptops, but it is not there for people whom import cheap machines from overseas for personal uses.

I just bought a x220 4286CTO , it is a good machine but the wifi connection is really annonying .It becomes  very slow after 10 seconds or so after I turn on the wifi connection even the link status shows "300Mbps". The chip set is "intel wifi link 1000" in windows 7 64bit. I do see packet drops in ping command to web sites such as "google.com".I have upgraded to latest version of driver, v14.1.1.3 , but still no luck. I am using WPA2  PSK plus AES, other devices (iphone, ipad, T400 and etc) work well in my house.Any idea ?

Answer:X220 wifi slow problem

hey atlantisnj, uninstall the Access Connection. Try connecting using Windows built-in connection system. Does it work and are you able to maintain a good speed? If it does not, try uninstalling the current wifi driver that you have installed. let windows install its generic drivers and try again.

So my X220 with the Intel 6205 card is having issues reconnecting to WiFi when resuming from sleep or hibernation. It takes about a minute for it to do so, though occasionally it will reconnect right away. Maybe 1 out of 20. When doing a cold boot or restart, it connects immediately upon the desktop showing up. This was not always the case, in fact when I first got my X220 in June, I have not had this issue.... In fact, I don't know when it started happening, but it was maybe a couple months ago. I just thought it was my old router going bad. Well I got a new router, and it still happens. I have the latest Intel WiFi drivers from Lenovo, and I even tried downgrading to the previous driver from Intel's site. Still the same problem. I tried setting a default profile in access connections, and that does not help. In fact, it behaves the same way if I totally uninstall access connections as well. In fact I tried this on three different brand routers, and I can reproduce it on all of them (Asus, Netgear & TP-Link) so I think this is not a router issue. Other devices in the house reconnect right away with no issues (iPhone 4, PS3, Mac desktop, Dell laptop). I currently have BIOS 1.24, but this was happening with 1.21 and 1.23 as well. My X220 originally came with 1.16, and I haven't updated it until 1.21. Unfortunately I don't remember that far back, if the problem started occuring then. There was a brief discussion about this in another thread, but it went nowhe... Read more

I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

Hi there, I just ordered a T400, waited 3 weeks for it to ship (from an estimated 1 week at order time), and it has arrived "sans-WiFi". I don't know how exactly one "forgets" to put in a WiFi card, when there isn't even an option not to have it.... My problem is that I need this laptop and can't wait 3-6 weeks for them to ship me a 'new' laptop - all I need is the card!  It's even a customer-ok replacement [doesn't void warranty]. What do I have to do to get either:1. The part alone quickly2. A new laptop while I use this one3. Something else that involves me still having a computer to use while this gets resolved? Thanks for any help!  [the phone support is terrible, they won't even let me speak to their supervisor  ]

Hello,
New here. I'm wondering if old drivers can cause a bsod. I ran one of those "check your pc" programs and I have a bunch of old drivers(hdd, video, WiFi, etc) bit anytime I check for driver updates it says I have the best driver right now. I get bsods once a week or every other. What can I do? Do not have a minidump on hand at the moment as typing from windows phone.

edit: added image of drivers said to be outdated. will add minidump when crashes

Answer:outdated drivers/bsod

Welcome to the forum.... not sure what to think of your name though

yes, outdated drivers can cause BSOD's. However, your post and info doesn't tell us enough for that. Example: if your system was running fine, for a longer period of time... and you changed no drivers... then chances are it might be something different, unless you use some specific piece of HW for the first time...

Please post full info as instructed in http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

I know you can use a minidump file to check for outdated drivers, but what if you don't have any dump files or anything recent? I want to know if there's a way to check all my drivers like you would in the dump file for outdated drivers? aka drivers that need to be updated and could possibly cause problems.
I've tried Google but all I see are using Windows Update or checking Device Manager which isn't very helpful.

As an example, from this thread I created a long time ago, this user gave me a list of outdated drivers:

Answer:How do I check for outdated drivers in W7?

Well I was looking through some random CMD commands and found Driverquery... It appears to give me similar information, but I'm still curious how the user got that from what I gave him. There's got to be other ways of doing this.

Another nice thing to note for those who don't know about this command is you can type Driverquery > driver.txt to export it to a text file.

In most such cases there are no updated drivers so no update is possible. Drivers do not cause problems because they are old. If a driver once worked well it will continue to do so for the life of the computer.

So HP has released driver pack for for my pc Aug 26 2016 , but they use driver version 20.19.15.4360 Rev.A released by Intel 9month ago. With these drivers lots of apps doesnt work correctly, some game even are not loading at all. So i have to use generic Intel updated grphics drivers. Doing that we are facing tons of problems as to install Generic Intel Drivers instead HP modified old drivers. We have to work around to stop windows 10 automatic driver update as they have the same old **bleep** drivers for HP those takes down computer prformance, gives bugs withing app's and games. Its a nightmare guys and it shouldt be like this, if i want to use drivers those work better i should be able to install them over HP modified with no problems at all, i should not getting errors messages that generic intel drivers for their own cpu and video are not campatible or somthing similar as HP coded to stop peaople installing generic intel drivers or other vendor drivers. HP shame shame shame shame.

Hi, Firstly I have to say, I don't work for any hardware and software company. I've been in this industry for around 40 years and one principle of any LARGE company is Quality Control (QC). HP could be one of many large companies and the testing process may take ages to pass QC. LARGE companies don't want users/customers to fugging around with their products and then screaming why they break.  I know on some HP product lines, users/customers can freely using other methods/ways to update/upgrade. Regards.

I have used computer for 9 years. My first computer is a DIY desktop computer, the second one is ThinkPad T43, and the current is HP Pavilion g4. I didn't care the outdated drivers on first several years. With the accumulation of computer knowledge , I learned that old driver are related with game performance , video performance, and the hardware conflicts.
Then I begin to update drivers manually. The steps are showed as following:
Right click "My Computer" => click "Management" => click "Device Management", then select a device and check for whether it's outdated, then you can update them one by one.
I was really annoyed by endless checking and updating. So today, I want to share a tool that can checking outdated drivers and update them automatically. Driver Booster (You can google it, I am not allowed to past link as a new member)

Hello fellow geeks,

My video card is NVIDIA Geforce 7800 GTX and I have the latest drivers for this card on my computer, but the "Video Driver Outdated" message appears from Steam (program for playing games). My drivers version is 6.14.10.9424 (as of April 2007). However, according to NVIDIA's website, the date for this exact same version shows the date of May 2007. I downloaded and try installing this driver, but it says the Windows Logos cannot verify that's the correct drivers for this operating system and I chose the right one from Nvidia's website.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. I even shut
down my virus program while installing... I dont know what can I do.

Should I re-install my drivers for this video card? I tried re-installing, the same message still appears about Windows Logos does not recognize this and recommends me to STOP INSTALLATION.

Thank you for your time.

Answer:Video card drivers outdated?

Did you un-install the old driver before installing the new one? Not doing that can cause odd problems.

Use caution if you have an Nvidia based board, and only remove the video card driver.

This site has a good tweak guide for Nividia drivers, among a bunch of other things:

Hi, my desktop is suddenly getting 15-20 FPS in games where I used to get 60-80. Even flash games are absurdly slow. It slowed down after I unpacked it from being shipped because I moved. It's exactly the same, I have made no other changes since before, haven't installed or uninstalled anything. My dad thinks it may be overheating, the CPU is at 97 C. I'm not sure what temp it usually runs at but that sounds pretty hot. There's no dust in the case or anything so I'm not sure why it would suddenly start overheating but it's our only guess so far. I'll attach a speccy, thanks for any help.

PS: thanks to anyone who helped with my laptop, it seems I can't catch a break when it comes to computers...

Answer:PC suddenly slow after being shipped

97 C is extremely hot! it should be half that. Take the side off the case and make sure all fans are spinning. Make sure the processor fan is clipped on tight. Check temperatures and fan speeds in the Bios

Where did you get the prompt for needed driver and what are the devices that needs it?

Usually checking the device manager for yellow marks or black down arrow will say if a driver is not correctly working.
Depending on the applications , which would also prompt if driver update is needed for its services .

Can you provide further details on the prompt and likewise the Machine number from the sticker label or from here.

In a word; No. Never use software to update software, especially drivers. Visit the Dell support page for your PC and see if they have more recent drivers for your hardware, download them and install them manually by running the installer for each driver.

If your PC is slow it's probably not down to drivers, do you run regular maintenance routines on it?

Hi,i have the Y410p, and constantly the Intel driver Crashes. Exactly when i leave my laptop on and closed and then lift the screen, delays and then says that the intel driver has crashed... the driver doesn't update since 2013!!! I went to intel to donwload a newer version (Lenovo -> 10.18.10....) (Intel -> 15.33.....)Ready... And then... cannot install... The error says something like that: (intel website)InformationA customized version of the Intel Graphics Driver may be installed on your computer. This occurs if your computer manufacturer (also referred to as Original Equipment Manufacturer or OEM) has chosen to change features, incorporate customizations, or make other changes to the graphics driver software. SolutionTo resolve this error, download and install the appropriate graphics driver from your computer manufacturer's Web site. Your computer manufacturer recommends the Intel Graphics Drivers they have customized and validated for your specific computer model.  GOOD LORD!! Why in the world they customize it if they are going to leave it unupdated??  If a good guy can send me a proper link to an updated driver, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:[Y410p] Outdated graphic card's drivers

Same issue.  My graphics driver crashes about 3-5 times per week, depending on how often I put the PC to sleep.  This causes my virtual machines to crash completely, which makes it hard to get work done. I have installed the latest driver from Intel here http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/graphics/4cp-hd4600gfx You can manually install by:1. download zip and extract to folder of choice2. Open device manager, uninstall Intel 4600 HD graphics driver under display adapters (right click > properties > driver > uninstall), hit no when prompted to reset3. Should now see something like Microsoft generic display driver listed.  Right click and select update driver, browse to where you unzipped driver in step 1.4. reset I am now at version 10.18.10.3960 , will update post if this resolves issue. edit to note this issue may be related to using an external monitor through vga port.

Hi everyone. I already realised some time ago that my graphics drivers (the newest official Lenovo ones) are really ancient, dating from November 2013. Updating to the newest official Intel drivers didn't work: I'm getting a message that the driver or the system isn't validated. That is really annoying. Is there a way to update the drivers without losing Lenovo's features? Has someone tried to "trick" the system into accepting the Intel drivers? Cheers -- TheOutspoken ++

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon 1st gen - outdated graphics drivers!?

Hi TheOutspoken,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Try updating through Lenovo software tool, all you have to do is download Lenovo solution centre as per your current OS, once you download it open Lenovo solution centre > click on system at the left hand side of the page and you will see a message saying Lenovo software updates then click on that and it will take you through the process.

Please let me know, whether the above step helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

hey guys i just got windows 7 and already see two major problems. one, my graphics card needs to get a driver update but they dont support windows 7 on the website!. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX Series (yes its old as hell) and ive read that installing the vista or xp drivers wont work regardless. what should I do? does anyone know if i can buy a better graphics card for my laptop? my friend told me HP laptops are made customized for the specific graphics card and i would have to buy another laptop. i am not down to spend 2000 bones on a new laptop with everything working with windows 7 on this current one with the only flaw an outdated driver!!! Is there some other downloadable updates I can find to get my card working?

also, as some people mentioned before, i cannot get the brightness slider to show up in my power settings options. do you think it has something to do with the outdated graphics card i have? So far i havent updated it with any drivers. I really dont want to buy a new laptop...and i also dont want to waste all the money i spent on video games if i cant play them without a driver anymore

Please help, thanks

Answer:help! outdated graphics card with no avail drivers!

ive read on some posts that people with the same problem used forceware 72.14. does it work?

Firstly I upgraded to Windows 10 so the software and drivers on the HP website are different than my previous Windows 8 operating system drivers.Sadly before I upgraded to Windows 10 I did not update Windows 8's Drivers so I am currently suck on an outdated BIOS version and cannot upgrade my version as Windows 10 Drivers and Support does not include a BIOS update (My system Information BIOS version)As you can see I am running "BIOS Version/Date AMI 80.19, 2014-07-18" and ONLY  the updated version of this BIOS is on the Windows 8 operating system drivers which is 80.24 Rev.A. Sadly I cannot update as it is only avaible on Windows 8 and not 10.To change the drivers between Windows 8 and 10, there is a bule box you can click "change". Does anyone have any suggestions on how to update my BIOS to 80.24 Rev.A without going back to Windows 8 as a last resort? Also, would this outdated BIOS affect me In upgrading a new video card becuase currently I am getting no signal with my GTX 960 but it lights up and its fan spin...

Alright, so it's a well known annoyance that HP's built in Beats Audio Control Panel has automatic volume leveling, but unlike other companies (Acer, Asus, and all generic replacements under the sun) They provide no way to disable it without removing the hp drivers and using the generic, the problem with this is the generic ones do not offer the proper equalizer meant for the speakers on the computer, and that they un-tie the Headphone jack and Internal speakers as a single output device, meaning programs that do not support switching need to be restarted, or programs that to support switching need to be switched over one-by-one, this simply isn't satisfactory. I'm looking for a way to disable auto volume leveling without having to resort to generic drivers, it's a feature which has been requested by more than 300 people at least on these forums, and I would like to see it happen. Solutions that include "Uninstall beats and install this update from HP (Realtek Generic Driver replacement)" or "Disable beats inside the control panel" Will not be accepted as they are not satisfactory either. Every other company can include a toggle for volume leveling, why can't HP? I spent over $900 on a laptop I believed was going to be at least the same sound quality as my previous $280 laptop. So far I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth. For now I will stop recommending HP to friends, family, and businesses I am contracted with. Get on it HP!

Answer:HP Beats Audio / Shipped Sound Drivers.. REMOVE VOLUME LEVEL...

and yes im aware of http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72001-72500/sp72094.exe containing a "Loudness equalization" toggle and that does "Fix" the problem for now but it would be nice to still have a volume compression toggle button on the beats one so people dont have to resort to uninstalling drivers and removing software so it isnt automatically replaced and then installing this, not all your customers have any experience with driver installation

I need help with my drivers as they aren't showing up right in Device manager. I have double or triple entries in some of the categories; I have provided a link or file so that you can see what mine looks like. If anyone could direct me in the right path that would be awesome! I think the reason for my mouse studders/issues and also performance issues in the many games that I play is the reason behind these Drivers. Below is a image that I captured with gyazo that lists my devices.

https://gyazo.com/825cc09e1f38ba409bd23bd839c8aa08 <- (Device manager and problems w drivers)

-BenQ XL2420Z 144hz
-Logitech G403 Prodigy
-Corsair Vengeance K95

-When I fix the drivers that I need will the grayed out devices fix themselves/disappear in Device manager? Also, if/when I get my drivers all squared away and updated; let's say I have some grayed out devices that are still in those sections.. is it OK to uninstall those or not?

-I also don't have any idea what those Microsoft streaming devices in Sound are? Could it be something I need to turn off in BIOS or?

-Lastly, what's the deal with the WAN Miniports?

(Edit: I had recently installed "Simple Driver Updater" to scan/check drivers. It found these drivers that were either obsolete or outdated. Listed below
-Legacy device
-PCI standard host CPU bridge
-High precision event timer
-Intel(R) Management Engine Interface

Hello HP community,I have quite a problem here. I game on this HP 15-r032nx notebook that I obtained about a year and a half ago (as silly as it seems, but I'm a low-spec gamer, so anything goes), and I've been vouching for Intel to grab the latest Intel HD Graphics drivers, as the official ones provided by HP are sorely outdated (a little bit over a year, to be exact, latest official driver was released back in August 2015), meanwhile Intel's latest driver update was released in the middle of August 2016. But, the big thing was, when I decided to revert into HP's official latest drivers, all my games' performances improved marginally. I seriously feel the performance could be further improved by having HP release their version of the latest drivers for Intel HD Graphics 4400, but unfortunately I do not see that for my laptop model. Anything going on here?

Answer:Official HP Intel HD Graphics 4400 Drivers Outdated

Nothing is going on. HP does not create the drivers for the HD 4400 graphics, Intel does. It is their product. The graphics solution  is on the same chip as the CPU\APU and not on the system board. Your best source for an Intel HD 4400 graphics driver will be at the Intel driver download website

This is a friend's new laptop that has been having BSOD problems. Random times, browsing, printing, playing music, etc. Its crashed a total of 5 times but there are only 3 dmp files. The error code was not recorded. Thank you for any assistance!

Answer:BSOD on brand new computer, only a couple outdated drivers

Hello TheRad and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not a BSOD expert. The experts on this Forum are seriously back-logged helping others. So until one responds to your thread there are a few things to check. First, it would help to know your system specs. Top of each page click User CP and in left column click Edit System Spec. If you aren't sure about the specs a free utility called Speccy will give you everything you need to know.

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

- Make sure your memory sticks, GPU, etc are seated properly
- If using multiple memory sticks test each stick by itself in slot # 1 (or whichever slot the motherboard manufacturer recommends for a single stick)
- After checking each stick, check each slot
- Check your power management options.
- Check your PSU.
- Use default BIOS setting if you overclock

You could also run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) It will look for damaged or corrupt system files and try to replace them with the correct versions. If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If still no luck, you could work through these troubleshooting steps prepared by one of the forum experts. It's time consuming but may help isolate the problem.

Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

I'm getting a few hundred kbps on downloads from MSFT's dev site, which typically are 1MB/sec for me on this Helix. Just did a fresh install, but am using stock Windows 8.1 wifi drivers. Do I need to install something specifically for Helix, like the Intel files?

Answer:Wifi very slow on Helix after fresh install of 8.1, do I need the Intel Wireless LAN "drivers"?

If there is a dedicated driver from the manufacturer for your hardware for your current OS, you should always choose that over the stock Windows drivers. Best thing for your Helix would be to run the Lenovo System Update to get your machine up to specs in the driver department. I always stick to the Lenovo issued drivers for my ThinkPads and stay far, far away from any Windows Update drivers. They are absolutely a no-no for me.

I'm currently using an ABIT Airpace WiFi card, and by default it loads the drivers from Windows/System32. Even if I try to install it from a different source and point to the directory that the updated drivers are in, it'll still say the drivers are up to date even though they're prehistoric. If I uninstall the drivers and reboot, and try to install by canceling the auto-update drivers, it won't recognize that I have a Wireless card in my computer at all.

I'm using the drivers here

Hello, I keep losing wifi on a regular basis (several times per day). When this happens, an exclamation mark symbol appears on the wifi indicator in the taskbar.I have not been able to identify a trigger. It happens randomly as far as I can tell.I am sitting within 2 metres of the router. Non of my other devices experience connectivity problems. To reinstate wifi, I right click on the wifi icon in the taskbar and select troubleshoot problems. This always gets wifi working again. A hardware scan in Lenovo solution centre does not flag up any problems.Lenovo system update does not indicate any critical or recomended updates. This post is just as information - i solved the problem, but it might help others in the same situation or might encurage Lenovo to change something (if possible). I was adding/enabling WPA security to my wireless router and therefore should change the settings of the my connection on the X220 (along with other wireless equipment).  That was NOT possible, neither using the Win7 network options, nor the Lenovo 'Access Connection' software. After booting the X220 i could see the different access points (SSID's), but when i tried to access anything Wifi related, the Wifi system just froze and i couldn't do anything. If i started out - after a reboot - trying to change the settings (add WPA and enter pass-phrase) in 'Access Connections' i got an error message like: "The program doesn't have the rights to make these changes", when trying to save the changed settings. The solution was to delete all Wifi profiles in 'Access Connections' and start all over with detecting SSID's, entering pass-phrases and so on, for all connections.  After i did this, the Win7 Wifi functionality works correctly too. I guess that updating the 'Access Connection' software (and/or Win7) at some point 'forgot' to convert the settings to a newer layout or similar error.  But it work perfectly now! Hope this helps someone in the same situation.

Hi everyone, Just purchased a new x220, with what I think is a great build config. I've used a T42 for the last 4 years or so after having some bad run ins with Powerbooks. Mine came with the Intel Centrino N 1000 wireless card. Had I known better, I would have opted for the 6205. The problem I am having is that whenever I get about 15 feet away from my wireless router, I lose all data transfer. My T42 and my HP Tower (and my iPhone) can connect in the exact same distances with ease and still have plenty of bandwidth. The T42 for example won't stream HD video from netflix, but it will stream SD video. The HP tower being in my room, which is the furthest point away from the router and up a level, gives me a -6x to lower 70's via inSSIDer 2.0. If I travel more than 15 feet or so from a router, I still see the network being within range and the RSSI goes to about -60. The other two computers and my phone still are a breeze browsing the web at this distance, but the x220 just acts strange. Sometimes I will get very slow data transfer, most of the time I'll see that I have a good signal to the network but it has the ! yellow icon indicating that I have no internet access. I tried this at my parent's house today with the exact same results. When I was on the other side of the wall the connection was great. I go down the hall and its gone (but still visible). I have used the recommended settings by everyone for power management, reset everything, installed new dr... Read more

Hi guys, Previously I posted a thread "How to check & set download/upload speed". So, I just bought a new X220 to replace my old Acer laptop, and at that time I was not familiar with this X220, and I thought I had to change the setting from the Windows Network or the Lenovo Access Point software to get a higher download speed, as my download speed is only ranging around 15-30KB/S. I download using the Firefox browser. That is indeeed very slow as I'm at Singapore right now and I'm sure their speed is much more faster than that. I changed the bandwidth (something Hz) from 20 to 40Hz, but still the same. I even brought back to the store that I purchased this X220. The guy tried to download using their store internet connection and said the download speed is reasonable as their store connection is quite slow. Well, I just think 30KB/S is still unacceptable. So I just thought maybe I haven't found a high-speed wireless internet spot yet, and just now I tried to download some movies at my sister's place (dl speed is still max of 30KB/S) and thought to leave all the downloads alone, and before I left I also download iTunes from the itunes website. To my surprise, the download speed on the iTunes was like 1,5MB/S - 2,1MB/S and the movies speed were also started to increase to 300-400KB/S. And the weird thing is that after iTunes finished download, the movies download speed were also dropped down to 30KB/S. So, I had to repeatedly downloading the itunes again to get a 3... Read more

My new X220 comes with an Intel Wifi 1000 bgn. The wifi would only work if the computer sits few feet away from the router. It would not be able to connect to the wireless router if I'm sitting one floor above the router, while my other laptops do not have any connectivity trouble.  When it connects, the speed could drop to very low even with "excellent" signal quality as reported by Windows. Any hints?

Answer:X220 wifi very poor performance

Make sure your router has the latest firmware for it.  Seen this a lot with router with original firmware.  The router gets updated and most problems disappear.

I have a new X220, with Windows 8 added on to the stock W7.  After lots of time on this forum, I have learned to use the Intel wireless drivers not the Lenovo-distributed ones, and that there are lots of other applications from Lenovo that need to be updated or "adapted" to Win8. But worst of all, a 5-year old X60 has far better wireless performance (connectivity to the access point, and throughput) than my very new X220.  Atheros chipset in the X60 and Intel in the X220. What gives?  Is this the advance of technology?  My X220 suffers from drop-outs and the X60 reliably connects and shows throughput.  I mean like up to 8 Mbps.   Is there a substitute wireless card (mini-pci or whatever) that I can replace the Intel unit?  Any other options other than a 30 meter wire?  --J

Hello Im a new user of a Lenovo Thinkpad x220 laptop I recently bought and I have a question about the Wifi driver for this computer. My x220 has installed the "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205" Wifi card running in a "Windows 7 x64 bit" system, and when I go to download the latest updated drivers from "support.lenovo.com" it gives 3 options in the "Networking Wireless LAN" section where I think the correct one for my card is marked in this picture:http://imgur.com/UqLwENow if that is the correct driver for my Wifi card my question is if it is right that the Wifi driver is a 500MB file.... I want to check with more experienced Thinkpad users if that is correct and that is the file I need to download and install.Because if I go to the official Intel website I find the driver for my Wifi card is version 15.1.1 dated 5/3/2012 with a 25MB file which seems a bit more logic for a driver file.So which driver should I download and install? I dont use the autoupdater lenovo driver manager software because I like to personally download and store all my drivers with all my computers, so any hint or clue about this question would be appreciated, because like I said it is probably the first time in my life I see a 500MB driver file, thats humongous to put an adjetive. Thanks for the help.

Answer:Question about x220 Wifi driver

The primary reason this package is so large is that it contains drivers for multiple intel adapters for both 64 and 32 bit OS's for Windows 7, Vista , and XP.  It's sort of an all-in-one package. If you use Access Connections use this package, if not then either this or the driver from the Intel website will work fine.

Hello, about week or two ago, I maybe finally found solution to wifi connections problems on specific routers in channel N mode (Intel wifi card). I wanted to assure myself, that my method works (atleast for me), so I've been waiting last few days. Now, wifi is still stable and I can rely on it, however it sometimes takes a bit time to connect (does not matter, if I resume from sleep or simply power on). Access Connections works fine as well, no needs to remove it. Step 1: Create system restore point (I can't provide warranty, however in my case on X220 and E130 this method works) Step 2: Download driver for your Intel Wifi card (to prevent You from having none as you uninstall current version). Open this page, select your card, OS and choose file, what's name contains ...Ds... (for example, Wireless_17.1.0_Ds64.exe). These files with such a letters contains only whole driver without any additional applications, and they have worked for me better than the rest. I would like recommend you to download the latest driver version. Reason is simple - I hadn't tried older versions. Furthermore, new versions should fix some security problems. Anyway, if you are not really IT professionals (I admit that I am really not), then choose, like me, the newest version. However, if you want to try older version, don't forget to tell others about your result!  Step 3: Uninstall current Lenovo wireless Wifi driver, Intel PRO/Set and so on. You have to be sure, that your... Read more

Interesting, I have been battling with this issue on my X220 for more than 6 months now (since i decided to run software update (after long time not updating anything) and this problem started...

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling drivers, cleaning stuff, to no avail. I also tried intel wifi drivers and it didnt make any difference...

But I never stumbled upon this, two separate driver sets, S and DS... Do you happen to know what's so different about these drivers that makes it work?

In any case I just swapped out the Intel 6205 card for a broadcom based one after flashing a modified bios that removes the white list for lenovo approved adapters.

And I've not had any disconnections yet. I'll keep this in mind in case I upgrade to a Wireless AC card in the future, which will likely mean going to an Intel card, unless I find a broadcom based one.

When I use my ThinkPad X220 with Cenrino 6205 on my homenetwork it works for 5-10 minutes, then it looses connection and th adapter turns itself off (even the LED goes out). Havre tried with original Intel-drivers, Lenovo-drivers and with/without Access Connections. All other machines at home works towards the router perfectly; even the Lenovo G- and B-systems and iPad. Anyone?

Hi, I have a problem with wireless wan and wifi turning both on at the same time by itself after resume from sleep. This is the scenario, turn wireless WAN off (WiMAX),turn wifi on, sleep system, resume from sleep, check access connections (Fn+F5), This is what I see It appears that WiMAX radio has turned itself back on. Now it looks like they are both on at the same time but I do know that it just sin't possible to have them both working at the same time. So what gives? Is this just a bug where it shows its on but really it is not? Should I ignore this issue? The person reporting this keeps sending in this bug as if its something serious, he has no connection issues or any other problems when resuming from sleep, he just keeps bugging me about it. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Hi, It seems there's a lot of complaints around the Wifi adapter thinkpad b/g/n wireless (1x1 bgn). I really want to know how worse it is compared to Intel 6205 (not to mention 6300- it's really a beast, people say). Can somebody let me know whether Lenovo charges this much for a upgrade like this (thinkpad 1x1 to intel 6205), and is it worth? Thank you very much!

when you buy the X220 from US online store the upgrade from 1x1 bgn to 6205 was only around 15 dollars. It is definitely worth the upgrade from the 1x1 to the Intel 6205 (the 6300 not so much). Especially if:1. Your wireless hub doesn't have a powerful antenna.2. Lot of other people are using the same 2.4 ghz bandwidth. 3. And you can live with 150 mpbs (usually around 75 mbps are more common) transfer speed.

I've had this problem since new, and have reinstalled windows a number of times for unrelated reasons. When coming out of standby, the mouse is unresponsive for about 5s and it takes more than 20s for wifi to reconnect. Iinitially it tries to connect, then drops, then goes through the whole process again before connecting. I don't have this problem on other model Thinkpads, wifi connects immediately out of standby. Seems like it might be a driver problem. All drivers are up to date.

Answer:X220- mouse and wifi unresponsive out of standby

hey vinuneuro, could you try uninstalling the current wifi driver of your unit. Let windows install its generic drivers and try again.at the same time if you have Access Connection, uninstall and leave it removed. Just test and see if the wifi-issue you have occurs or not

Hi everybody, I ran into some issues with my X220 some weeks back and have been trying to fix them to no avail. As far as I can remember I took some time a few weeks back to install the 1.40 firmware-update and also updated the battery-firmware in the same routine. I'm not sure If it was immediately afterwards (since I'm using a dock with LAN), but the wifi-card (Intel 6205) wasn't recognized by the OS anymore. No entry in the device manager! Here's what I've seen/tried so far:1) What I was firstly able ot see was that the device would sometimes show up after returning from sleep when not in the dock.2) Since I have an Ericson WWAN-card i switched mPCIe places. WWAN-card works in both slots. No recognition of the Wifi-card in both. >> So it doesn't seem to be related to mPCIe or the board.3) My guess was a faulty card, so I tried a newly-bought Intel 7260 Wifi-card in the slot.3.1) The Wifi-card must have been recognized by the BIOS, since the whitelist-fault was presented and I had to remove it to even be able to boot again.3.2) As the warranty wasn't my concern anymore anyways I flashed a whitelist-disabled version of the 1.40 firmware. As promised, I was able to boot with the 7260 card.3.3) Yet still, the card is not presented in the device manager.4) Since my Windows 7-installation had quite some time on its shoulders I reckoned that maybe another OS would be able to properly recognize the card. I just freshly installed Windows 10 and again - not... Read more

Answer:X220 doesn't recognize Wifi-card

Update:I used a debian live installation running from a pendrive to look for detected hardware. No wifi was found - again for both cards.I'm really lost for ideas at this point. What really irritates me is that the BIOS/UEFI recognizes the 7260 card with correct VID and PID. Yet still the cards are somehow (I guess) not made available to the operating system. On another note: I've just noticed that I posted in the wrong forum section. I've read from various places that Lenovo whitelists WLAN/WWAN cards in BIOS. What level of whitelisting do they do? Will this block all aftermarket cards? I'm interested in installing a Killer 1102N Wifi card (primarily because of the control over the network stack the driver provides the user with). Will I have any problems with this? Do I need to hack my BIOS etc? Heres a link to the actual wifi card product http://www.bigfootnetworks.com/killer-wireless-n-1102/  I'm only purchasing this aftermarket because Lenovo doesn't actually offer this card in their notebooks

Answer:X220 Tablet + Killer 1102 N Wifi Card?

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unauthorized_MiniPCI_network_card

The reason for the whitelist is to match the card to the antennas to comply with FCC regulations regarding interference.  Most mfgrs. do the same thing.  The link explains it fairly well.  The card has to be Lenovo branded.  You can take the exact same two wireless cards and if one is not Lenovo branded, it will throw the error.

And yes, you would have to modify the bios.

Answer:Question about X220 Drivers...

Welcome to community!

Visit the X220 driver matrix: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77280
To download and install Thinkvantage System Update. Once installed, run it and see what it offers you. You can decide to install individual drivers, or not, as your needs dictate. After you're finished with that you can double-check the matrix for any newer drivers, as TVSU can sometimes lag slightly behind.

One thing I would recommend is to *not* use TVSU to install any BIOS updates. I feel strongly that those require extra care and forethought.

If you have any questions about any drivers or apps in the matrix or TVSU, please do post back so we may help further.

Cheers.

15.3.16.1 released on August 23, appears to have a bug, on the x220 at least. Right dragging has become almost impossible.  Use one finger to hold down the right touchpad "button", use the other finger to drag an icon on the desktop, while the other finger is still holding down the right touchpad button.  80% of the time, the driver will release your held down button, half way through the drag. very annoying.  I've played with every setting in the ultranav settings, and I have uninstalled, and re-installed the driver.

Hi.  My X220 works perfectly in most situations. Most Wifi access points I connect to work just fine.Whenever I connect via WWAN I never have any issues. However:  there is a certain Wifi access point that my X220 cannot stay connected to.  It connects, then about 4 minutes later, the connection is dropped, and the only way to reconnect is to reset the centrino wireless adapter.  It does not matter whether I use Windows Wireless Services or Lenovo Access Connections.  After I do a reset, the connection will drop again a few minutes later.  A connection drop means an exclamation point appears with Limited Connectivity warning-- to be clear, at this point, there is zero internet access, until I reset the adapter.  This can go on forever, it does not matter if I reset 12 or 20 or 67 times, the connection will still drop after a few minutes. To be clear, in this location, every other Wifi enabled device works flawlessly.  Other laptops, iPads and iPhones all connect to this access point without incident and remain connected with excellent performance.  This is *not* a case of a defective access point.  In this location there is access point "NETGEAR" and also an extender "NETGEAR_EXT" For some unknown reason to me, my X220 cannot stay connected. About 2 months ago I sent my X220 back to Lenovo for replacement of the wireless, so I don't *think* the problem is because of the wirelesss card. I have trie... I've had no issues with my X220 for the past few years, been running great to the point that I completely stopped updating the drivers or the bios...

About a month ago I decided to do an upgrade in the System Update software, just get everything up to date. That included the latest bios, and all the other drivers...

Now since I've had an annoying issue with the WiFi (Intel 6205), where after coming out of sleep, it will disconnect from the WiFi after 15-30 minutes randomly. It ALWAYS happens, and it doesnt matter if it's idle, or downloading or streaming anything. It doesnt reconnect on its own, i have to cycle the wifi switch and it will reconnect, and stay connected for the remainder of time until i put it to sleep again.

There was another WiFi update since, and I installed it, and it didn't help... It's not an access point issue, as I've tried this on several WiFi routers and it does it every time...

Anyone have any idea what it could be? I dont feel like reinstalling, as everything other than this works perfectly.

Hello,I have fitted a MyDigitalSSD 64GB mSATA to my X220. I installed Windows7 from a USB stick onto this (eventually) and all seemed to be working OK. However, I ran a check and the SSD is not performing well (see picture). I since discovered that a driver is needed for this card, which I have found (PhisonFW-S5FAM012). I have set up a USB stick with the relevent files, but the X220 will not boot to it. I managed to get Windows7 to boot from USB by copying the BOOTX64.EFI as described in another thread. Any idea how I would boot the mSATA drivers? (By the way, I realise this will wipe the mSATA drive - never mind!) Many thanks and best wishes.

Hello Guys! I'm New To Dell Community Here . I wanna ask a question regarding the WiFi problem in Dell N5050 Laptop.
So, this laptop is actually a Ubuntu one but, I got this thing from my relative with Win 7 Home Premium x64 installed. All stuff are working fine.
So one day, I installed Remix OS along with Win 7. In Remix, I get an notification showing "USB Drive is corrupt click to fix" and I clicked and formatted it as it said. Then, my hard drives disappeared in Remix.
I felt weird and restarted my system.
And my system partition is gone. No OS in HDD. :(
I checked all solutions and even through diagnostics, it said my HDD has no problems.
So, I reinstalled Windows 7. This time I don't have a Win7 disc from Dell or anything official stuff related to that.  I've an Unofficial and Modified Windows 7 Eternity Disc. So I went through and installed it, which really was Win 7 Ulitmate x64 (No Service Pack)
I had C: and E: drives now, there's only C:
I installed all those drivers as said but the problem still stood with the wireless or the WiFi driver
Ethernet/ wired connection is working fine, no problems at all.

And then, it disappears. In device manager it also says, network adapter has no drivers.

I have an X220 4286-CTO with an Intel Advanced-N 6205 Wi-Fi adapter and I've been trying to install the Intel 17.13.11 drivers for Windows 8.1 x64 (which is supposedly compatible with the X220 and 6205 Wi-Fi adapter) in order to run AirServer with MiraCast. I've tried everything. Had to reinstall/reboot dozens of times, through the Intel Update Tool, through Lenovo System Update - everything, but the latest update that Windows will accept is 15.14.0.2. The Intel updater says everything is up to date, but the Device Manager is still reporting the old driver (15.14.0.2). I uninstalled the old driver and reinstalled 17.13.11 from scratch. No luck. Any advice?

Answer:Can't install Intel Wireless LAN Drivers for Windows 8.1 on X220

The "17.x" package contains multiple driver lineages, one of which is the 15.14.0.2 driver for the 6205. The 17.x drivers are for the newer Intel cards.I currently have 15.15.0.1 on my 6300AGN on Windows 7, but I don't remember where I got it from.

Hi, I have a XPS 13 9343 (i5/QHD) purchased refurbished from 3rd party, recently installed clean W10.
The Dell tool indicates to me that I should be installing:
9343_Network_Driver_WD22T_WN32_7.35.333.0_A03.EXE
Installing I get failure log at the bottom.
Via Device Manager as mentioned the WiFi adapter under Network is not there, scanning for hardware changes does not help.
I have tried manually installing inf files but I don't get any options under "Model" when I try to install it through legacy hardware.
I'm starting to think the Wifi/Bluetooth component is either faulty or entirely missing from the vendor (I have not opened it up and wouldn't know how to diagnose this myself).
I've attached a separate wifi dongle which works as does connecting to Ethernet via a USB adapter.
Any other ideas of what it could be? Thanks.

This is my third laptop from leneveo series and this time i am strugling hard due to wifi issue i am facing on my machine. Bought myself a nice new Ideapad 310, but I'm having wifi issues. I know it's not the card itself as it's working fine in Windows. A little bit of console output: [email protected]:~$ lspci | grep Wireless02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8821AE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter   There is another odd thing I noticed that might be relevant: After the internet has dropped out, I can disconnect from the wlan via the icon but I can't reconnect.   I would be very happy if you could help me with this problem. If you need any other information, tell me and I will post it.Thanks! EDIT: After some more searching, I found some posts/articles that describe exactly the same problem as I have:Wireless disconnect issues Ubuntu 16.04 with RTL8821aehttps://medium.com/@elmaxx/rtl8821ae-wifi-drivers-in-ubuntu-16-04-4c1286524afa#.dsczz2t2whttps://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2245164  Unfortunately, in some posts the problem stays unsolved and in some others, where solutions are posted, the solutions don't work for me, so I really count on your help.
