X220 Gobi 3000 ~slow~

Question: X220 Gobi 3000 ~slow~

I have an X220 (Win7-64-bit) through work. Recently ordered the Gobi 3000 (Sierra Wireless) embedded WWAN device. I installed it per the instructions that came with it. Activated using the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (on Sprint). I can connect to Sprint just fine using any of the following connection methods:1) create a DIAL modem entry and use the Gobi 3000 modem interface2) native Win7 WWAN NDIS (i.e. using the Gobi 3000 device as an NDIS "Network Adapter")3) Using Lenovo Access Connections 7 Here's the problem..... it's SLOW! With an external Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 (also on Sprint EV-DO Rev-A), I get screaming 3G speeds (2.2+ MBps down, 1.5 MBps up)....full signal 5 bars. However, with the embedded Gobi 3000 in the same location, I get barely 800kbps down and 450 kbps up. I made sure that the driver is the latest. What am I doing wrong? I can't think of anything as to why this is so slow. It's as if I'm only getting 1xRTT speeds and not EV-DO Rev-A. Activation isn't the issue..it connect... just SLOW. Stumped!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you attached the antennas connectors clearly and properly?Check out the signal level, broadband interface capabilities and quality of signal (percent of errors):- open the console window (cmd)- type netsh mbn sh int . Copy the value of the 1st string Name- type the following strings:netsh mbn sh cap int="@Name"netsh mbn sh conn int="@Name"netsh mbn sh sig int="@Name" where @Name is the value you've remembered earlier (should be in quotes).

I have the Sierra Gobi-3000 card in several X220 laptops.  If the computer wakes from sleep mode WWAN card is no longer visible and cannot be connected to until after a reboot.  I found the USB Controller for it and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power management to no avail. The error message in Device manager (after sleep mode) is "Windows cannot load teh device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)".

Answer:Gobi 3000 disappears after sleep on X220

I also have this problem on my X220 laptops. I found if you disable then re-enable the device in Device Manager, it helps to bring the Gobi card back to life. It's a workaround, but not a root cause fix.Did you find out any other info for fixing this?

As long as your 3G carrier supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Modem) for their service, AND it operates on a 3G band supported by the MC8355..... yes, you can.

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Ok I have a Lenovo X220, upgaded over time with bigger hard disk before I installed SSD Fixed the BIOS as I detest whitelists to the point of astro blue bonnet rage Ordered up a new bluetooth 4.0 daughter board to modernize, too many devices want BT 4.0 now and now i see BT 5 is upcoming with more hardware woes I have a Gobi 2000 card, Intel AC-7260 card, so when i get all the parts, I will be doing some surgery. I have also discovered that 60Y3183 is the lenovo version of the Gobi 2000 but mine is a generic one for any machine what wants the action the Gobi 2000 has GPS caability so I was wondering if there is any software for the X220 I can use to leverage it over what Windows 10 has? Wiring up the WAN card with a SIM card, where can I place the SIM card?

> the Gobi 2000 has GPS caability so I was wondering if there is any software for the X220 I can use to leverage it over what Windows 10 has?not a location application is a problem. Gobi 2000 GPS receiver should be turned on in order to use it. Under win7 this action performs Lenovo application "GPS Enabler". But it's missing for win8/10. I didn't test it under win10 in the compatibility mode either.Another way to control the GPS receiver is to use AT commands.> where can I place the SIM card?in the battery compartment.

Hello @ all. I bought a new Gobi 3000 from China with FRU 60Y3257 for my W520. But i canīt turn on the Gobi with Fn+F5 Menu, WWAN Button is there - onclick nothing happens.WLAN Button works normal.WWAN driver-installation was without any troubles.  Device-Manager shows all ok - no unknown Devices. Before Gobi i had an Ericsson F5521gw inside, it worked.  Also strange thing is, the Wireless-LED is always on, also when the Hardware-Switch is off. That wasnīt so with Ericsson.Thinkpad is a W520 with Win7 Pro x64 Clean Install.Gobi Driver is 8awt11ww.Hotkey Driver is 8jvu10ww.BIOS is 1.33. No ThinkVantage Software installed.  Same mistake is on T520 - also not only a Problem with my W520... Any ideas? thx

Answer:Can not turn on Gobi 3000

Is this Gobi thing something that Lenovo offers as a pre-installed device on the W520?  I don't think so, because I can't find any reference to it in the W520 Device Driver File Matrix. It could be that the W520 is not designed to support this device, even though it physically fits into the computer. Michael

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

I have a question. Does anyone know if a GOBI 3000 works in a T410?  I am aware that the 1802 error may be an issue but I was wondering none the less. Thanks.

Hi, guys! I know this error about unauthorized card is very regular. I know a reason. Nevertheless I need a help. I've got an x220 laptop with i5-2520m and broadband option installed in it - an official Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205 (78y1399). WLAN card is also exist. Laptop and Gobi 2000 are from Lenovo and purchased officially. The drivers for modem and boot loader are downloaded from Lenovo's site. All nesessary drivers and patches for Microsoft Windows 7 and Lenovo are installed too. With initial BIOS v.1.04 the system works fine, with the only one problem - modem isn't presented in Access Connection since the laptop cold starts. So I've to load the default settings in setup every time the laptop cold starts and restart the laptop. I know this error has been fixed in new BIOS. After the newest BIOS 1.16 was flashed the system halts if I try to access setup (after F1) or after cold start. The error message you know - "1802: Unauthorized network card.... (05c6/9205) . System is halted". Also, as the modem isn't set to default stage it's not visible in Access Connection. In Hardware Manager the modem looks fine and can be tested. I had to downgrade to BIOS 1.04. The questions are:1. I know this Qualcomm Gobi 2000 (78y1399) isn't in compatibility list of x220. It's a surprise for me. Why so as both products are from Lenovo and 78y1399 is supported by x201, for example?2. Why the 78y1399 isn't presented in new BIOSes white li... Read more

Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... I have a T520. I decided to post this since I couldn't find anything on it anywhere when i was trying to figure it out.Sierra site has no drivers, and the lenovo driver says its an unsupported platform even though it clearly lists XP.Here's the solution, mind you I haven't tried to connect to anything yet:Go get the regular lenovo driver for sierra wireless off of the support page, run it, let it install. You can watch the sierra installer fail after that if you wish.Go into where ever you installed the driver files to, in my case C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR (Where the lenovo branded installer put the sierra installer files)Now go into the uncompressed_drivers directory (C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR\Uncompressed_Drivers)Don't run DriverInst.exe yet. It installs all the drivers, but they wont work. (Devices do not start.)Run the two .reg files to add them to the registry (LenovoPowerManagement.reg and LenovoSupportedPIDKeys.reg)Now run DriverInst.exe, and you're done! Now if someone could tell me how to increase the maximum integrated graphics from 128 mb on a t520 I'd be in heaven!

I ordered a Gobi 3000 for my laptop before I went abroad and found that the local carrier here (there's only one) offers EVDO service. I ordered my EVDO service but when it came to connecting using Lenovo Access Connections, the only EVDO options that are available are Sprint or Verizon. Just for the hell of it, I decided to try both and neither worked but the card is able to see the EVDO network.  The issue is that the card will not activate (even though it is activated on the local carrier's network) because it does not see a Sprint or Verizon network. If I pop in a 3G SIM card and switch the Gobi to HSDPA, it works great but 3G is expensive here which is why it isnt a great option.  The activation is purely software/firmware related on the Gobi and it's incredibly annoying to know I spent $125 for something that simply won't work (despite the assurances by the Lenovo sales team that it wasn't software-limited or locked in any way when I asked before I bought it) Anyone have any familiarity with activating the Gobi for EVDO service on providers other than Sprint or Verizon?

EV-DO never achieved enough global market penetration to become a globally standardised technology, in either an engeineering or commercial sense.

Every EV-DO  implementation was somewhat different, so its not at all suprising that you are unable to activate a Gobi 3000 card intended primarily for access to specific US providers with an EVDO provider in another market.

The Gobi 3000 card is definitely not "locked" in itself to a provider, but many EV-DO vendors would only activate a device that they had sold themselves, for purely commercial reasons.  Also, EV-DO "activation" is quite a different thing to activation in 3G networks, so even when there is a basic technology compatibility in terms of frequency bands, there may not be an ability to activate the device within the  business model of any arbitrary EVDO provider.

Cheers,

HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Hi all I've been trying to activate the Gobi 3000 in my W530 for the past couple of days.  Although I have installed the drivers and I am able to see the "Mobile Broadband Connection" in network properties, it seems to be locekd to Verizon or Sprint (deponding on which OS I boot into) and I can't find anywhere to change this, even though I have a SIM card from the local telco (Telkom Mobile in South Africa).  Can someone please explain how to go about doing this?  The Gobi 2000 in my W510 was simply a few clicks, but this seems to be a whole different can of worms.

I have installed Windows 8.1 Professional on on a Lenovo X220 Tablet and everything seems to have installed correctly, although my system, which supported limited touch with 2 touch points in Windows 7, only has Pen Support in 8.1. I have been able to get the system to be recognized as "Pen and Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points" but only if I disable/unintall the Intel HD 3000 driver, and use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead.  The problem is that the resolution isn't as crisp.   Any recommendations as to what I can do to get the limted touch to be recognized with the Intel HD 3000 driver?  This one is baffling.   Any help would be appreciated.  The X220 Tablet's type is 4296-2WU Also, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver is the latest version compatible with 8.1 64bit - 9.17.10.3517. Update: I have also tried the previous Intel driver release, 9.17.10.3347, as well as the recommend Intel driver from the support page 9.17.10.2843 and non of them allow my screen to do Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points.  Yet, if I disable the Intel driver, and restart, I can.

Troy,

Thanks for sharing your expeirences and the details of the driver version.

Officially, I don't think Lenovo provided full support for Win 8 on the X220, but as you note it (and the upgrade to 8.1) can work with some limitations.   I'll check with one of our software engineers to see if he may have some suggestions on this one.

I expect you will probably draw some responses from the community as the X220 was a very popular system with a good following.

Best regards,

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Hi, eyeland

Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Question: Very slow X220

Hi! I have some questions regarding my X220.I purchased it back in 2011 and it has been my loyal companion ever since, but lately it has gotten very slow and it's temperature rises very quickly.Instead of buying a new laptop (which is not that easy as a student..), I would rather change some of the components inside. But is it worth the effort with this laptop? Also, please notice that my hardware knowledge is weak, though if necessary I will be able to learn how to change RAM, harddisk etc. very quickly. I have been looking at several system monitoring softwares; either they do not provide with enough information, or they are too detailed and advanced for me to understand. So I have not been able to troubleshoot properly. Some info:Processor: IntelŪ Core? i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz Ũ 4Graphics: IntelŪ Sandybridge MobileOS: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 64-bitHDD: 250 GB (I don't know any more details about the harddisk)Please tell me if you need more info. I have cleaned it from unessecary files and programs. I will use it mainly for running Matlab and for data analysis in ROOT.My first thought was to change RAM and also the harddisk, maybe get a SSD. But will it fix the problem entirely? (also the temperature problem?) Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should approach these problems?Any help is much appreciated!! /EUY

My X220 was very slow at starting, perhaps 10 minutes.  Normal restart seemes to take less than a minute.  Animations were extremely slow and often would stop, mouse would barely respond, and computer time was 15 minutes less than true time.  No update was in progress. There seemed to be no end to the slowness.  The first restart didn?t change the issue.  After the second restart however the issue did not reoccur, including computer time.  All my drivers were up to date.  A subsequent Thinkvantage diagnostic and full virus scan found no viruses.  The last thing I did before the issue appeared was being connected to an AT&T hotspot.  I curious what caues it.

When i try to download something on my x220 it maxes out at 80kb/s. On my other laptop they get about 400kb/s downloading the same file. Also when i check my speed on speedtest.net is shows me the speed that i should have, but i have no where near that when actually downloading something. I have intel N 6205 for my wireless card and the driver is version 14.0.0.113; it tells me the driver is up to date.

Question: Win10 slow on x220

I successfully installed Windows 10 on X220. Before that I had Windows 7 and everything from boot to starting programs was a snap (32GB SSD used by Expresscache), but now everything is significantly slower. Expresscache is still working (verified with eccmd -info) but the % hit is lower. Also a couple of times after I typed in the admin password and hit enter, the laptop stopped responding, it's stuck at "welcome" with the dots going in circles, and the hard drive light was not lit, I had to power off manually and restart. Does anyone experience similar things? Update: It takes a long time for Expresscache to build up the cache, so far it's getting faster.  Update 2: I found the problem, whenever the laptop hangs after logging in to admin account, all of the data on the Expresscache SSD is wiped and needs to be rebuilt again, this explains why the computer becomes super slow after each hang.  Update 3: Even after a normal restart, all of the data on the Expresscache SSD is wiped. That should be the culprit.

I bought X220 with a built in 128 GB SSD. It turned out to be an ancient Samsung RBX Series. Here's the benchmark:   And that's what we are paying $350 for? You can get a $200 Intel SSD that will run like 3 times faster.

Question: X220 slow boot?

Hello- I have a X220 and I installed Windows 7 Pro using UEFI mode. The machine is taking a long time to boot: approx. 5 seconds for the screen backlight to lit up, another 5 seconds for the Thinkpad logo to appear, and the logo screen will stay there for like 10 seconds. It's pretty fast after that. I thought UEFI should boot faster than BIOS but on my W500 the entire POST process takes less than 5 seconds. Anybody knows what's going on? Thanks =)

You can't ask for a replacement if the wireless is slow. But you can upgrade the wireless card to say an Intel 6205 and 6300. To get a webcam and 2X2 would require the top case of the laptop been disassembled, which is not something lenovo can do for you.

I just bought a x220 4286CTO , it is a good machine but the wifi connection is really annonying .It becomes  very slow after 10 seconds or so after I turn on the wifi connection even the link status shows "300Mbps". The chip set is "intel wifi link 1000" in windows 7 64bit. I do see packet drops in ping command to web sites such as "google.com".I have upgraded to latest version of driver, v14.1.1.3 , but still no luck. I am using WPA2  PSK plus AES, other devices (iphone, ipad, T400 and etc) work well in my house.Any idea ?

Answer:X220 wifi slow problem

hey atlantisnj, uninstall the Access Connection. Try connecting using Windows built-in connection system. Does it work and are you able to maintain a good speed? If it does not, try uninstalling the current wifi driver that you have installed. let windows install its generic drivers and try again.

I have an x220 windows 7 32 bit and with both wireless and wired I get extremely slow performance. The chip is an Intel 81579LM and copying a file across the network over the wired network for example I get only 800kbps. If I plug my desktop PC into the same switch I get something much faster. So the problem is definitely on the x220. I've tried various driver updates but nothing seems to fix it. I've run perfmon and CPU and disk read/write queues are not an issue. Where do I go from here? Roger

If not, try doing the test with using both Ethernet cables between both devices and teh same port on teh switch..... this would fairly quickly sort out if you have an Ethernet cabling related issue - this is fairly common root cause of the problem you are describing.

So I have had my tablet now for about 3 weeks or so and since the past week or week and a half I've noticed that the computer takes a long time to start up.  From when I turn the power on to when I get the Lenovo Thinkpad display is within a few seconds which is the norm.  However it takes quite a while, about 30 to 45 seconds for the log on screen to show up and then about the same for everything to be fully loaded and ready to go.  I will also check the log on times again and update the next time I boot up. Intel i7-2620320 GB hard drive8GB ram Any info is helpful and thanks in advance.

Hi, I've had my x220 for about a year and three months now, and in the last month or two I've noticed that after it goes to sleep and I wake it back up, it becomes extremely slow and programs stop responding.  I most often use Chrome and Word to do my work, so those are the programs I most frequently see "not responding."  Furthermore, I've noticed the ThinkVantage Toolbox is extremely slow, sometimes failing to open altogether, when I'm experiencing the issue. I've checked, and all of my software is up-to-date according to Lenovo and Windows Update.  Furthermore, I searched online for a registry cleaner, and downloaded and ran Ccleaner, to no noticeable effect.   I don't remember a specific program I may have downloaded that could be causing the hang-up, but I've tried to uninstall anything I haven't used in the last 9 months.   I'm running Windows 7, have Norton Internet Security installed and up-to-date, and usually only run Chrome and Word simultaneously. Please help! Thanks,Jess

I recently bought an x220 i5-2520 and installed an intel 310 80GB ssd.I cloned C: using the intel Acronis tools, updated all drivers and firmware and all works well. However, my boot times are over 1 minute - much less than the 20-40 seconds I see posted on the web.I have cleaned out a lot of unnecessary items from startup using msconfig, but no major difference. It seems to me that most of the slowdown is happening after the login. It takes around 30 seconds after that to get to the desktop. Why are my boots 2-3x slower than others?

Answer:x220 with Intel 310 ssd slow boot times

From my experience, you are always going to get the best results from doing a fresh install.  I put a fresh copy of  Win7pro 64 on my Vertex2 SSD and my boot times are <15 seconds.  There must be some conflicting service, program etc. that is taking a long time to load or maybe the cloan messed something up.  It is tough to say for certain what it is but a fresh install is always good measure.  You can check Task manager and see if anything is using up a lot of processing power / memory as a start. ~Novak

My brand new x220 was shipped with an outdated driver for the installed wireless card (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN). This resulted in extremely slow wireless browsing. After spending 4 hours changing settings on my laptop and wireless router I finally called tech support. They revealed the outdated driver, and showed me where to download the update. This solved the browsing problem. I understand keeping drivers updated is important, but I didn't expect a brand new computer to use two-year old drivers. It's like Lenovo shipped a laptop with "some assembly required, but didn't include the instructions. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Answer:x220 Shipped with outdated drivers (slow WiFi)

So did my old Dell long time ago. It happens and no biggie to install the new updated ones.Your X220 has an driver update in Lenovo device experience when you click on Start > Click on Lenovo Device Experience > click on Update and drivers.  This will guide you in downloading any newer drivers.... Of course there maybe newer ones just coming out and the update site takes a while to catch up

So my X220 with the Intel 6205 card is having issues reconnecting to WiFi when resuming from sleep or hibernation. It takes about a minute for it to do so, though occasionally it will reconnect right away. Maybe 1 out of 20. When doing a cold boot or restart, it connects immediately upon the desktop showing up. This was not always the case, in fact when I first got my X220 in June, I have not had this issue.... In fact, I don't know when it started happening, but it was maybe a couple months ago. I just thought it was my old router going bad. Well I got a new router, and it still happens. I have the latest Intel WiFi drivers from Lenovo, and I even tried downgrading to the previous driver from Intel's site. Still the same problem. I tried setting a default profile in access connections, and that does not help. In fact, it behaves the same way if I totally uninstall access connections as well. In fact I tried this on three different brand routers, and I can reproduce it on all of them (Asus, Netgear & TP-Link) so I think this is not a router issue. Other devices in the house reconnect right away with no issues (iPhone 4, PS3, Mac desktop, Dell laptop). I currently have BIOS 1.24, but this was happening with 1.21 and 1.23 as well. My X220 originally came with 1.16, and I haven't updated it until 1.21. Unfortunately I don't remember that far back, if the problem started occuring then. There was a brief discussion about this in another thread, but it went nowhe... Read more

Sorry guys to present you with a new problem concerning the X220 but I noticed today (only half an hour ago) that if I switch my screen to a black screensaver and wait around 15s and go back to normal screen then the colours will be "unreal" -> means they appear to bright and "undetailed" for some time (15 to 20s) and then go back to normal (it's like slowly increasing colour depth from 256k to 32bit or the latency of the all pixels is to high). To literally talk in pictures: I have one of these standard "I-come-with-windows-please-use-me"-background pictures of a koala. In normal state I can the details of its fur. But if the I do the above the Koalas fur is more like a big grey surface.Sadly, I couldn't capture the phenomena with a screenshot (I tried several times but no luck) so it seems to me more like a hardware issue (have an IPS panel but so far had no problem with ghosting. but I have the screen bleeding.). Also because it's late and quite dark here in Germany I can't take a good photo of it. If a Lenovo employee should read this here are some more hints for debugging: Have a recently bought X220 (Type: 4290-W1B) and it's currently running on battery (haven't checked plugged-in yet because I'm dead tired but hopefully will have time tomorrow) with brightness level 5 (changed it to max of 15 but problem is still occuring). Please tell me if you need more informations! And thanks for your help beforehand.

Answer:X220 IPS: latency of pixels too high - slow colour switchback

Screenshot wont capture the effect if it's the screen that's causing it.You'll need to use a digital camera, preferably with the flash setting turned off.

Hello guys, I have 3 thinkpads at home, 1 T420, 1 X200 and 1 X220 which happens to have the highest spec (maxed out, i7, Intel 320 SSD, 8GB ram). All are running Win7 X64 but strangely X220 is very slow to populate the program list when I select Control panel->Uninstall a program. The other two machine can finish populating the list in less than 3 seconds while X220 sometims needs more than 30 seconds to fully populate the list. The number of installed programs in X220 is 97, not much more than how many the other two have. I am very **bleep** about my X220 and it has the latest drivers from Lenovo. Other than this issue, the laptop is majorly trouble free. Not sure this is software or hardware issue. Does anyone have any idea what went wrong or have similar issue? Thanks

Answer:X220 very slow to populate the program list in control panel

Sounds either like a registry or a SSD issue

I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

Or you can go to device manager and secondary ide channel double click on it and go to advanced settings on device transfer put dma if available on default it should be ultra dma 2 mode

To start off, this game runs great on my laptop, Ran great on XP, Vista, 7, and now I am trying to use it on windows 8.1.

Basically the game just runs choppy and slow, and no changing of any of the settings do anything, nothing in the compatibility mode either.

I have no idea why, Windows 8 has been great for my other old games, but for this game it just runs slow and choppy. Which I again will say isn't my computer.

Any ideas? Yes I tried google, and tried what the reddit post guy said.

Answer:Sim City 3000 Slow Motion

Okay, for some reason it only works in 8bit color and without maxing the games resolution. Which is disappointing and I blame windows 8.1 :/

Hello,

I have a brand new computer wich is exactly like that:

EVGA GeForce 6600 256MB
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1 GB of Kingston RAM (2x512 MB)
ASUS A8V-E Deluxe motherboard
160 Gig SATA HD, 7200RPM

Windows XP SP2 with all updates I can think of

The problem is, Windows XP (32) is kinda sluggyish, lets say I am playing an MP3, the system gets a little bit laggy and the sound is clipping.. i've tryed with 2 soundcards (the onboard one, and my m-audio audiophile usb one..) and still hapenning...

I am wondering if anyone ever had a similar issue, I mean, XP shouldn't be lagging with that kind of system just by playing a *([email protected] mp3?

I've noticed the CPU usage tend to peak when that happen, like the cpu usage will jump to 90 ish % and then i'll hear the clips in the sound, mostly when I open a program (like IE) while playing a mp3...

Thanks

Answer:Slow WinXP on Athlon64 3000+ ... :(

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention:

I have installed Norton Antivirus, so the system is absolutly virus free, and also Microsoft Anti-Spyware + Ad-Aware, so system is also spyware-free. The problem was hapenning before I've installed theses software, and ain't got resolved

I bought my i5 3000 series a couple weeks ago off the Dell website.  I have only physically had the computer for just over a week.  Right from the beginning it was slow. Then I downloaded iTunes and Microsoft office (which was supposed to be included but was never installed).  After realizing I had downloaded the wrong Microsoft office I tried uninstalling it. Well almost 24 hours later it sat at step 2 of 4 for the uninstall.  Being frustrated with the performance of the computer I called Dell support.  They can help me fix the slowness of my computer all for the low price of $249. Are you fricking kidding me?!?! I just bought it and should never have had slow issues to begin with.  I am so disappointed with Dell and their service.  I will never buy from them again and will probably be returning my hunk of junk "new" computer.

I've been using my customized X220 for 7 months and to be honest I'm not satisfied with some flaws. First of all, the LCD bezel is loose as shown in notebookreview:  Secondly, the infamous touchpad doesn't work as it is supposed to. Sometimes when I do a left-click it gives me an unwanted double-click, and sometimes it mistakes between left-click and right-click. I decided to try not to live with these, and hence called Lenovo support (UK) to request an on-site repair. The appointment was made for last Friday but on Friday I received a call from Lenovo saying that the appointment had to be canceled because the engineer is too busy to visit my place. I said that's fine let's do it on the next Wednesday. Then on the next Wednesday I received a call from Lenovo again saying that the LCD bezel is out of stock and they had to further delay it for another day. Finally a friendly engineer showed up and replaced my LCD bezel and the whole palmrest including the touchpad. The LCD bezel is much better now but still with a small gap. This is no problem as I can live with it. However the touchpad problem is still there - indicating that the unstable behavior of clicks is obviously not a hardware issue but a driver issue. Also, some other minor problems include fingerprint reader occassionally not working after resume from sleep or hibernate, sometimes blank screen after resume from sleep or hibernate, one CPU core is significantly hotter than the other when ... Answer:X220 loose LCD bezel, unstable left-click of touchpad, and slow on-site support

I think your view is fair and balanced. Personally my X220 has been extremely good in terms of quality (finger crossed), but i have seen some pretty frequent issues with the MB, LCD bezel, etc. The IPS LCD of my ThinkPad X220 have around 4 bright spots, which seems to be biggest shortfall i have experienced with my X220.

Hi.Am having a problem with my display being very slow to scroll. Scrolls in crude steps instead of smooth scrolling. Happening in all programs. Also the resolution is incorrect. Letters are antialiased and not crisp. The laptop is a 3000 N200 0769About 1.5 years old and was bought with Vista installed. Vista sucked and eventually in trying to make vista work OK I screwed it up completely and then the hidden partition containing the recovery crapped out leaving me with an expensive doorstop not 1 month after purchase.Asked Lenovo to send out a DVD recovery disk. After a week of waiting, I decided to experiment with Linux and I have been running Ubuntu on this machine ever since. Lucky I did not wait, because Lenovo never did end up sending me the recovery disk. Decided just today to format the entire disk and install XP.XP now running and got it finally to recognise the ethernet card, but still have a heap of unrecognised HW on the machine. So with this post I am focusing on the most pressing problem right now that is my search for the correct display driver for this computer. I am in fact looking for all the drivers, (have tried to use drivers at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67855.html, but most of these are not correct) Can anyone help on this one please A

Answer:3000 N200 display scroll very slow

Just checked my display setting in the control pannel and I see that I am running the display at a resolution of 1024x768 when the display is a 1280x800 display. Also the driver that windows is using is called VgaSave. I have no way of knowing but I strongly suspect that this is the closest thing that Windows has for a driver for this display, and it is the root of my problems. **bleep**, Linux straight off handled this computer screen far better than Windows XP has done so far!

Answer:Dell Dimension 3000 Runs SLOW !!!

In most cases, issues dealing with slow computers can be attributed to viruses/malware. Sometimes loading new software (or software updates) can slow down a computer because of the size of the program relative to your computer's hardware specs, but 95% of the problems I've ever run across as far as slow computers are concerned (especially abrupt slowness) are due to viruses/malware. So my question to you is have you run a virus/malware scan lately? I'd start there especially if you haven't loaded any new software recently.

Just wondering why my machine is so slow. I was comparing mine (0764-2CU) with my friend's (hers is V100 0763-2LU), and hers is considerably faster in Visa than mine. Considering the fact that my machine enjoys a better CPU and I have upgraded to 2GB of memory but still it's slow. It was slow since the beginning. Is there any difference, performance wise, between Home premium and Business editions of Vista? Any ideas??

Answer:Lenovo 3000 V200 - Strangely Slow in Vista

From what I have observed on the Windows Vista operating system, a long delay of around 7 seconds is normal on Windows Vista before you see a scrolling thing at the bottom of the screen. And after that it should be booting faster. on Paul Thurrott's website : www.winsupersite.com/ It has some excellent resources on how to optimize your experience of the Windows Vista operating system. I agree it boots slowly sometimes, but with a little tweaking here and there it works a bit faster.  Good Luck.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 that is very very slow. I figured I would reformat my HDD and reinstall Windows XP. However, the install takes well over 24 hours to complete. The Bios shows that 512MB RAM is installed. I tried a new 80GB Western Digital HDD in it and that still took over 24 hours to install windows from a freshly formatted drive. The processor cooling fan is running and has good airflow.

HI, does anyone know where i can find 168pin RIMM memory at a decent price. Apparently this is what is installed in my PC (Advent 3000 series, actually on back of PC it says advent 3405 - about 3yrs old now)according to the motherboard manual. It is a P4, 1.4, 128mb ram with a crappy slow graphics card. I opened it up recently an although it only has 128mb of ram, it appears to have memory in every slot. Two normal looking size memory modules and two slightly less taller ones, does this mean it is 4x32mb. I tried putting in a better spec graphics card but it just wont run properly. I am in the process of buying components for a new comp but thought I could maybe upgrade this one for the kids if I could find memory. Also if I did manage to get more memory, do you think that would solve the problem with the graphics card installation. It seems to run fine other than being a bit slow. Thanks

Hi,
I bought this laptop just a week ago and I'm already fed up now.  It is too slow. I can't open 3 tabs at once.
Once I open a simple news site and then google and then another site, it becomes soooo slow and loads forever. Very frustrating. I have had to restart my system every 15 mins. This is the worst I have seen of DELL.
Please what should I do?

Answer:Inspiron 11 3000 series is terribly slow and frustrating

If you're not happy, you can return the system for replacement within 21 days of shipment.
Remember - this is a very low-end system -- basically a glorified tablet.  It's not capable of high performance in any sense of that term.

Your standard warranty won't cover the repair on user induced damages. You should call Lenovo warranty to find out the best way to get it fixed. But i would imagine it won't be cheap.

Hi Do anyone have idea why network is slow with Vista or is it cause of computer? I have tried all kind of typical trics but it is still slow. With my old (6 years) computer with XP speed of network is good. For example I can't watch youtube "live". I have to stop and wait it buffers. -Ari

Answer:Network is slow with Lenovo 3000 V200 (Vista Business) ?

I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad with Vista and had this problem that the Internet was horribly slow, both via wired and wireless connections.  Not only was it slow for this machine, but it killed my entire home network whenever I put the Lenovo in the network.  Since there are some reported issues with slow networking in Vista I spent many hours trying to debug that in my new Lenovo with very minimal improvement.  Disbled IPV6 and so on.    I was blaming it on darn Vista and Microsoft and was almost ready to scrap Vista and put XP on the machine.  But somebody suggested an idea to debug the services on the machine, which I followed. To my surprise after two more hours of troubleshooting, it paid off.  I found the culprit being a process that Lenovo is putting on some of its machines, It is called the IGRS Service.  This darn piece of ... software was killing my entire network, After I disabled the IGRS Service in my Lenovo laptopthe network worked perfectly.I decided to post this in case somebody can benefit from this experience.Thanks.

Having problems with a new Lenovo 3000 n200 0769-BMG model laptop - it came with 1Gb of memory and I want to upgrade it to 2GB. The machine works fine with only 1GB installed. Initially I bought a generic (Crucial) 1GB 200 pin DDR2 pc5300 SODIM which I installed. The system then hung completelly during startup, stopping on the white Lenovo screen at startup. I did some research on Google and found a couple of hits saying that you could only use genuine Lenovo memory. So  I returned the generic memory and bought much more expensive Lenovo p/n 40Y7734  1Gb memory. It still fails but intermittently and in a strange way - the bootup is very very slow sometimes. Sometimes it takes about 45 seconds to get to the white Lenovo screen, then hangs there for over a minute, then it will boot normally into XP. Once booted, it works fine and shows the correct memory size in XP. The BIOS also shows the corrrect memory - although this also can also take a long time  to startup. Remove the extra memory and it doesn't  fail. I've tried the memory out of another Lenovo and the problem is with this machine only. I'm in the UK and I bought this machine for my daughter who is abroad in Austria - I've spent a couple of days removing all the bloatware and settiing it up for her so I'm reluctant to send it back to the supplier as defective - also I'm out of my 7 days no quibble warranty from DABS.co.uk.  I was hoping to take it out to her next week. Hello everybody My wife got a 3000 V100 (specs below). She didn't like the performance of Vista. I installed XP pro (the one i had, not the downgrade disk that leonovo sells; downloaded all drivers and installed them). Then i noticed my laptop (3000 N100; specs given below) which also runs XP pro, is considerably faster: I read a core 2 duo should be about 30% faster than a core duo, but mine (n100) boots in about 1 or 2 minutes and hers (v100) in 4 or 5 minutes (everything else is as slow). Is it possible that one of v100 cores doesn't work, perhaps because I missed installing a driver? Thanks in advance. --Jeff 3000 V100 spec:T5200(1.6GHz), 1GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 10/100 Ethernet, touch pad, IEEE 1394, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 3c Li-Ion batt, WinVista Home Premium 3000 N100 spec: T2300(1.66GHz), 512MB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 10/100 Ethernet, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Hi Everyone, I have a T400 (2765-T2U). As of now I have the Ericsson AT&T broadband card installed. I would like to have the GOBI card so I can use Sprint EVDO in the states, and an HSDPA carrier while in Europe.  Does anyone know the part number for the T400 GOBI card? If I install the card will the connection manager allow me to choose Sprint in the states, or say Vodaphone while in Europe? Thanks! Matt

Hi Everyone Question to the forum:I've got X201T with Gobi 2000, and an EVDO subsciption.Currently using the USB modem that comes with the subscription, and trying to use the Gobi.I cannot connect to the provider (SMART TELECOM) using Access Connection software from Lenovo. The error I get is "SIM card found. Unable to retrieve IMSI." What am I missing here? CheersNick

Answer:X201T with Gobi 2000

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

I am poised to purchase an X201 any minute now...but I need some info before I do...

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB "air card" (VZAccess) for my mobile/anytime/everywhere internet connection.  I was going to upgrade my device to the new LTE 4G card and extend my plan for another 2 years for wireless through Verizon.  However, I am just now learning about GOBI - I was NOT going to include that option in my new ThinkPad, but now I'm wondering if I should.  I would LOVE not having to mess with that card sticking out of the USB port all the time, so the GOBI option sounds appealing.

My question is this:  the only GOBI option is 2000 3G.  So what is actually the better option - and what are the advantages...Verizon 4G USB modem with 4G monthly service plan (now actually cheaper than previous 3G plan), or the integrated GOBI 3G.  If I am completely confused about the whole 3G/4G thing, will some please explain?  I am of the mind that 4G is better, that the plan is better, but the actual card is a nuisance...that GOBI would be more convenient, but then is an older, almost outdated technology... ??

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Lisa

Answer:Help, please! Verizon LTE 4G USB vs GOBI 2000 3G

Hello mate, First you have to know what the cariers call 4G is not really 4G. LTE is really a pre 4G.The Gobi 2000 support HSDPA+ who is 3.5G. HSDPA+ is the most commun connection for the moment. LTE is faster but the network just start to be deployed means there is a lot of black spots. In theses blackspots you will connect in HSDPA+.I think you will have at least 2 years before the LTE network will be deployed.Normally the real 4G will be finalized soon. The race is beetween WIMAX 2 and LTE Advanced. Normally LTE Advanced should be compatible with LTE but really nobody knows. For my point of view, for the moment, it's a bit risky to change everything to gain a bit of speed. This thing remembers me the war beetween HDDVD and BluRay. And at the end people who bought HDDVD have now a useless thing you can't use anymore. For my usage the Gobi 2000 is perfect because is just a second connection when i'm away. The speed is far enough to browse the net and check the mail. Even for download is not too bad but anyway in Australia cost so much money for a plan with a couple of Gigs, I try to don't download too much.

It now looks like Lenovo is now only offering the Gobi 4000 AT&T version withthe new X1 Carbons. Just prior to launch they were listing the Ericson 3G card. Anyone know if we can swap out the AT&T Gobi 4000 one for a Verizon Gobi? How aboutthe laptops that came with the Ericson, can we just replace the WAN card witheither Gobi 4000? Will the Bios not block any of these options? Is the antennasetup the same?

Answer:X1 Carbon NOW WITH GOBI 4000? LTE AT&T

Well this is very odd. The disassembly photos here clearly show it only supports a half height card.I found this page which shows an Ericson card, but has GOBI 4000 listed under physical specs (with the model number for a full-size GOBI 4000).

I have several questions about using the Gobi 2000/3000 modems on the X120e: 1) Must I buy the Gobi 3000 from the Lenovo website, or will the Gobi 2000 work on the X120e? Also if I get it from another vendor will it be the same (have the same form factor to fit)? 2) Others have posted that the Gobi 2000 is unlocked (works with carriers around the world), is that the case for the 3000? 3) For installation on the X120e, how accessible is the SIM on the 2000/3000? I may have to switch out the SIM frequently and having to open up the computer to get to it would not be feasible.

Hi baldursgate and welcome to the community,

As far as accessibility goes, here's how to get to the slot.

I'm not sure about your other questions, except to say that whatever card you put in there should be a Lenovo branded card or you may get an unauthorized card error at bootup.

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... Where can I buy a unlocked GOBI 5000? The only ones I see on Lenovo.com is $200 for either the Verizon or AT&T brands.. I need one that works with T-mobile

Answer:Where to buy a unlocked GOBI 5000?

What region and network are you planing to use internet in? T-Mobile operates in 3 LTE frequency bands in the US - B2, B4, B12 (for B12 the company planned to start operating just in July 2014) and 3 bands in the EU - B3, B7, B20, in depends of the region and license type. But Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355) supports only 2 bands of 6 above - B2 and B4.At the same time Sierra Wireless em7345 LTE card (another one card for the new line Lenovo notebooks) supports 5 bands of 6 above, except of B12. So, there are no advantages for em7355 if you are not planning to work in Sprint LTE network and 3g CDMA/EV-DO networks of US carriers.Supported frequency bands isn't a "locking" feature. It's a design, the set of components, filters. Purchase the card you need on shop.lenovo or altarnate resources.

I have a number of Thinkpad x131e notebook PCs and need to order a WWAN module for it.  The only supported WWAN mPCI-e card listed is the Gobi 3000 MC8355 model, which is the slower 3G modem.  Has anyone used the GOBI 4000 or 5000 series LTE modems? I've seen posts about Lenovo whitelisting certain hardware, but I can't seem to find that list.  Are there electrical limitations that would prevent Lenovo from whitelisting the LTE modems?  If not, this type of hardware lock would be a deal breaker for any future Thinkpad orders for my company. Hardware is Thinkpad x131e Type 3372 Thanks,Jay

Answer:Gobi 4000 in x131e?

x131e doesn't support Gobi 4000 or 5000 or any other LTE wwan cards officially. Look at the followed file and find out "wireless card" section:http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/X131e_AMD_FRU_BOM.pdfJust Ericsson h5321gw is another supported wwan card. It's a bit faster then Gobi 3000 but doesn't support US wireless CDMA/EV-DO carriers.

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

I just placed an order a T410 with Mobile Broadband Gobi 2000 GPS 3G.I selected Open SIM card for Verizon May I ask if this card support GSM (e.g. able to use GPRS, EDGE and 3G)? Is it unlock and could be use with any GSM carriers around the globe? (I am frequent traveller and have to switch the mobile number quite often) Thanks for the information, I appreciated!James [Update]: I just called the Technical support to ask about this and the technician told me that, I cannot use other SIM card than Verizon one. This means I have to stick with Verizon Open SIM forever???? Is it true???

Answer:Gobi 2000 GPS 3G is unlocked and is GSM?

well...the answer to both of your questions is YES.Verizon tech support (and it's NOT the first time i encounter it...) knows nothing regarding the Gobi.
