Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Question: Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Hey guys, I'm having problems with the touchpad buttons: the system can't distinguish a left click from a right click. Whenever I click one of the two buttons the system reads it as if I'm clicking on both and keep pressing. I tried also to disable them and use the trackpad but also those buttons are not working well. They just work for a couple of minutes and then they stop. However if I run the Thinkvantage suite they seem to work fine and the system reads the click properly. What do you think is wrong? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Today I noticed both my touchpad and joystick stopped working. I could move the cursor but the clicks would not register. I restarted and it worked again. I recall a couple of days ago I updated the drivers, one of them I think was for the touchpad.

I recently got this new Thinkpad T460p and installed Windows and Ubuntu in dual boot. Even after 3 Days there was no error. But today I noticed a quite annoying behaviour. When I boot into Windows (Start up --> Grub, select Windows Loader --> Windows 10 starts) there appears the loading cycle (those white points) and for a short moment, even before the locked Windows screen appears, I can see the cursor. But immediately after that (when the locked home screen appears) the laptop won't recognize any input via touchpad, buttons or trackpad andthere won't appear a cursor at all. I need to login and wait for about a minute (Whatever I do, the laptop won't recognize anything but the normal keyboard), thats the moment in which my Laptop realizes that there are more possibilities to input data then just the keyboard and recognizes everything (touchpad, buttons and trackpad).I already deinstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled the latest update and even tried the one before that one just to be sure. Nothing fixed my problem yet.PS.: When I start into Ubuntu there is no Problem at all.PPS.: When I started into Windows a day ago It worked fine as well.

If anyone has acces to the connections/schematics for the M4600 touchpad/button assembly, I'd love to see them! For some reason both the right buttons have stopped working. Tried to disconnect/reconnect  the 14 pin "touchpad cable from the mainboard, but unfortunately this did not do the trick. Need to look a bit deeper - so would love to see the schematics or at least the pinout of the connector(s)... (It's a button - how hard can it be to fix... ;-)
Thanks and best regards,

I have recently acquired a Lenovo Y50 70, but the trackpad buttons are very difficult to get to work: they make the clicking feeling/sound, but often do not register the click, and have to be pushed hard to get them to work. Is this likely to be a hardware fault or fixable in some other way? Thanks

Hi allGot a aspire e5-571 a few days ago and I can not use the buttons on the trackpad. The trackpad itself works by tapping it but the "click" buttons do not work. It says that all drivers are the updated ones and it's running Windows 10. Checked all the settings on the mouse and all buttons are turned on. Any help would be great or should I just take it back and get a refund as it is still within time limit to take it back. Many thanks

If you know which touchpad you have, uninstall it in Programs and Features, reboot and install the correct driver. TouchPadELANTECHTouchpad Driver13.6.2.27.0 MB2015/08/18DownloadTouchPadSynapticsTouchpad Driver19.0.7.31616.4 KB2015/08/18Download If that doesn't work and the recovery partitions are present, you can run restore and change it back to 8.1.

Hi all,I am running windows 8 and I have the Lenovo G710 Laptop. I have been having this same problem with my trackpad on my Lenovo G710 laptop for a while now. When I got the laptop last xmas, the trackpad was working fine. But in about April this year the trackpad's buttons stopped working. The little symbol in my taskbar shows that the left button is pressed down when it is not and the right button as being up/normal, it is a real pain as I can move the cursor around but I cannot click on anything on the left or right buttons. Thanks

I have a x201 tablet running windows professional x64 - the upper trackpad buttons have stopped working and I have tried to change the settings in ultranav - is there another place to change these settings - any suggestions?

Answer:trackpad buttons (upper) stopped working

I have this same problem with the 32-bit version of Windows 7.  I have tried to re-install the drivers directly from the support website, but this has caused no change.  If I run the trackpoint button test in the ThinkVantage Toolbox, the buttons show that they are being depressed.  However, I can't make the buttons do anything during normal use. edit: I uninstalled both the lenovo and symantec ultranav drivers, restarted the computer, and then ran windows update.  The top buttons have started working again.  I found this solution in another post... but I can't seem to find it now.  Good luck.

Ive been repairing a thinkpad sl510 and after i fixed the wifi adapter and switch i put the laptop back together to find that for some reason both sets of trackpad and red dot thing no longer function nor do the buttons that go with them. they where working before besides both right mouse buttons..  Took it apart to check the ribbon cables to ensure they where not broken or damged. I have cleaned contacts and everthing is connected correctly and still not functioning..   Note: never disconnected RedDot and associated mouse buttons ribbon cable. only the trackpad and its panel has ever been removed.  I have installed and reinstalled drivers and tried all Fn key tricks..  after checking help pages I tried going into the bios to make sure they where enabled and found that they are not even showing up as options.  Could the motherboard be going?

Was using the computer fine this morning, using the trackpad to move the mouse and the hardware buttons above it to left-click or right-click as usual. When I used the computer later the hardware buttons no longer work. I can click by pressing the bottom of the trackpad itself, but cannot use the hardware buttons (and therefore no right-click or middle button functionality). Does this sound like a hardware fault or has some key/button combination perhaps diabled them? I have subsequently fiddled about in the UltraNav tab of the mouse settings in Control Panel to no avail. In fact, the option to enable the TrackPoint (the red button between the B, G & H keys) has been disabled...I can't select to enable it). PErhaps some drivers have corrupted? Any suggestions?

Hi, everybody!I just received my X1 Carbon two weeks ago and was rather concerned about the fact that the buttons above the UltraNav trackpad stopped working on the second day. All the settings are fine - in fact, I even tried resetting them to default several times and rebooting, and yet that still didn't solve the issue. The buttons won't work. I kind of dropped the issue at that point, but now it's gotten serious, as my right corner trackpad key all of a sudden stopped responding correctly in the middle of... well, nothing actually, basic work. At first it did not respond at all, and at the moment it functions in the same way as the rest of the trackpad -  it only does left-button clicking (opens and selects instead of showing a context menu).I hadn't changed any settings at the time, so that cannot be what caused it. Chainging the settings now to other right-key options, e.g. setting it to open the Start menu doesn't change anything - the right key keeps working as though it were set to left-click. Otherwise, I use W7 (although W8 was preinstalled) and haven't messed with the drivers. My TrackPoint is disabled, but I checked and it doesn't make a difference. [Please tell me this isn't a hardware issue, aw man] Thanks!

Today my x201 has lost all trackpad and touch pad function.   Hard disk constantly running.   No restore points listed to help remove the problem.   Everything works okay in Safe Mode.   Rebooting several times has not helped. Could this be related to the Microsoft Bad KB.......69 update? I have not installed any new software recently. I can only use the pen to access menus.    How can I remove recent KB installations using just the pen? Hope someone can help me soon Update:   I have managed to remove the bad MS update but to improvement.   Next I added a new user (also set as administrator) and the trackpad and touch pad function is now working normally but only with the new user account. Would someone tell me if I can remove my own Administrator Account and what effect this will have,  i.e. what data might I lose?   Can I save data and reinstall it to a new account?

Answer:Trackpad and touchpad not working

Hi Beemer,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that trackpad and touchpad is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad X201.

Since the devices work fine in safe mode, probably a corrupted driver is causing the issue. Go to control panel -> Device manager, uninstall the drivers listed under Mice and other pointing devices. Restart the system and let Windows install the generic drivers for the device. Check if the trackpad and touchpad works fine now. Later, you may download the drivers from Lenovo Support page and install them. If you have any difficulties in finding the driver, please share the MTM number of your device.

Click here to understand how to transfer files and settings from one user account to another with administrator rights.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Model : Toshiba R30-A-1CQ / PT343 Windows 8.1
Problem developed that intermittently touchpad would fail to register button presses. - Seemed intermittent. Rebooting machine solved problem for a while.

Updated to Windows 10 via Microsoft Windows Update - problem still occurs.

Further problem examination shows that the button functionality stops working after the laptop is resumed from sleep. - Can now reproduce this 100%. Windows needs to be restarted for touchpad button functionality to be restored.

All Windows updates applied. Touchpad is using Alps driver Ver 10.100.303.105.

Is there a later/earlier touchpad driver which will resolve this problem?

Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).

Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?

This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).

My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).

Hello all, 3 days ago, on June 14, the touchpad on my Twist s230u stopped working. No apparent reason for this (tried to undo windows updates / system restore but did not help). Dear Support,
I have a Dell VOSTRO 3560 laptop that has an Elan Tech SmartPad touchpad. I like its responsiveness very much.
Unfortunately, I recently spilled a bit of coffee and some of that went under the touch pad left and right buttons. The buttons stopped functioning but the touch pad itself is still very good.
Even before the spill I rarely used the buttons. I always used the touch pad to tap to click and two finger tap to right-click.Strangely though, after the spill when the hardware buttons stopped working, the tapping on the touch pad also stopped working. I made sure that the touch pad still can do tap clicking by uninstalling the Dell TouchPad driver and reverting to the Microsoft Mouse PS2 driver. In that case I can use the tap to click feature but only for 1 finger tap. I do not get any other feature as the driver is the simple generic MS one.
My question is would it be possible to still use the Elan tech provided (Dell TouchPad) driver and somehow configure it to accept the tap to click and two finger tap to right-click? This in addition to all the remaining scrolling and gesture support that the driver implements? I tried all the Dell Touchpad settings applet but nothing changed. Perhaps a registry value setting in the section for the elantech?
What seems to be happening now is that the driver is doing some hardware diagnostics, determining that the hardware buttons left and right are not working, and consequently completely disabling left and right click comm... Read more

Answer:RE: touchpad buttons not working.

Hi MRIGANKPAWAGI,
What is the exact system model? Are both the left and right buttons not functional? Are these buttons mechanically functional or are they stuck? What is the current OS installed on the system? Does the touchpad register a click?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-27Z. It is a fairly old laptop running Vista but there are no plans to get rid of it yet!

A couple of weeks ago the touchpad and mouse buttons stopped working. There was no lead up to this, just suddenly stopped. This lead to a second issue with my wireless connection which I eventually had to solve by re-installing Windows (I sought help in this thread http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/1125652-wireless-password-not-accepted.html#post8906770).

The fresh install of Windows fixed my wireless issues but strangely the touch pad and buttons still don't work at all. Given that I just installed Windows with all the drivers does that mean this is a hardware fault? And is there a way to fix it or do I now have to rely on the USB mouse?

Thank you in advance for any help,

John

Answer:Touchpad and buttons not working

Since you re-installed Windows with fresh install of drivers for the touchpad, chances are good that it is a hardware failure.

Neither of the right or left click buttons work well. If I'm lucky, it'll work 1/15 of the time, but usually it just doesn't work at all. The gestures work fine though. The driver is up to date. Is this just a hardware issue?  I just bought it a month or two ago and it never worked well. Would the standard warranty cover it?

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

After having to re-install Windows 7 on my laptop I've found that the trackpad and associated mouse buttons are no longer working. The keyboard works fine. The touch screen works fine. When I inserted an external mouse, it automatically installed the driver and worked without issue.I installed the Synaptics TouchPad Driverbut that didn't make any difference. I also tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 30 seconds, re-instering the power cable (but not the battery) and booting up the latop.  It was working fine before the re-install so I can ssume i's not a hardware fault and if the keyboard works the interface cable is also working... Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue and can suggest anything?

I have a brand new Yoga 300 straight out of the box and the touchpad buttons (right and left click) do not work. If I connect an external mouse it works normally. Is this a common problem or is this device faulty. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Hi, My TouchPad buttons are not working anymore. I don't know if the problem is a hardware failure or that the buttons maybe have been disabled by mistake.I have checked the UltraNav settings in the control panel as reset the values to default without any luck.Furthermore I have checked the bios settings which were set to the default values. I'm not using a mouse or any other pointers. Does any one have any suggestion before I return the T410 to the dealer for repair. The T410 is 2 weeks 'old'.

Yesterday the left and right buttons on my touchpad started to mess up. Clicking the left button sometimes wouldn't do anything and sometimes it would bring up the right-click menu. I would have to right-click something first before I could do anything to it with the left click nearly all the time. The right button sometimes won't bring up the menu and sometimes it will but only for a second. There are also random times where the menu will pop up when I just barely touch the right button.

I've already checked the mouse options and they're all set correctly and also reinstalled the correct driver from Vaio's website and nothing works.

The only thing that's happened when the buttons started messing up was that my computer was badgering me about restarting to complete a few updates. I also watched a movie too though that was about a day or two before, so it might either be something from the update that my computer can't handle anymore or a virus, least that's what I think but I don't know anything so I'm asking you guys.

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpoint buttons not working

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Laptop 18 months old, suddenly both mouse buttons stop working in the middle of working. No left or right click.
Can scroll and move cursor around, but can not click. The buttons feel different, they don't really compress. External mouse works OK.

Is this fixable? Can the mouse pad be replaced? What do I need to do to get this fixed?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite P850 - touchpad buttons are not working

Touchpad is just a hardware component and I think there is no problem with exchange. I don't know where do you live and how long is ?standard warranty? in your country but if the warranty is 2 years I think best option for you is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Check warranty status on - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails/ or contact Toshiba service directly. They can check it too.

Nearest Toshiba service provider in your country you can find on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/

Hello,
Yesterday I accidentally spilled some beer on my laptop and it went inside the touchpad. I turned off my computer, disassembled, cleaned it and left overnight to dry completely. Everything is working fine now except the touchpad buttons. I have to press them really really hard to get them to work. They don't seem to be sticky and click quite well.
Is there any way I could fix it? Is it possible to take the touchpad apart? Maybe there is some liquid left somewhere inside it and that causes problems.
The laptop model is Acer E5-571G.
Thank you!

Answer:Laptop touchpad buttons stopped working

If there was any liquid left, something would have short circuited.

Answer:Satellite C50-B-189 touchpad and buttons stopped working

Hi, this is due to the pad driver (which is bugged), just kill the process using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC AND THE TAB plus DOWN ARROW to navigate to the target process. I have to do this each starts.

From tomsguide (november 2014):

These fixes don't help, all that happens is, after some time, the touchpad fails again. While Toshiba works on this, I have figured out a quick, effective workaround. This is for my new Windows 8 Toshiba.
Press CTRL ALT SHIFT to get your processes to come up. Find the Touchpad "enhancer" process. End the process. Your touchpad will work fine until next restart at which point just repeat this step.
If you are struggling to end the process without being able to use your touchpad, I found a curious thing out. If you hold a mouse click down, you can move the mouse arrow with the touchpad just fine. Its a bit... inconvenient...but all you need to do this for is to end that process and after that you can use the touchpad normally.

hi! something strange happend to my laptop (ThinkPad T520), yesterday bottom buttons of touchpad just stopped working... upper buttoms seems to work fine, except for one thing, in Ubuntu sometimes they don't work too and I noticed that turning off and on the touchpad helps. In Windows upper buttoms seem to work fine, but bottom buttons still do not work. since bottom buttons issue relates to both OSs I have it looks to be something with laptop itself, I had no problems with touchpad or keyboard for 1.5 years of using it (I even reinstalled Ubuntu yesterday, I thought something happened to my system, but it didn't help, still the same issues, and still I have to turn on/off sometimes...) My OSs:1) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS2) Windows 7 I did not update anything during last few days, and actually I use Windows only to check something (so rare enough), so I'm sure I was not updating anything by myself there. Although I can't say that anything was updated automatically, and I could just miss that it happened. Unfortunately for me I am in the business trip, I am limited to what I can do about it, as well as feel uncomfortable to work with my laptop now (I got used to use my bottom buttoms with touchpad...). Is here anything I could do about it on my own without any risk to damage anything?  thanks in advance for any advice!!!Max

Answer:touchpad bottom buttons stopped working

actually I was wrong regards Windows, touchpad works strange there, by default pressing anything (except for bottom buttons, they do not work at all, as I wrote) opns a popup menu. I've applied all important and advised updated from Lenovo, also I've updated my bios to the last available version (I believe 1.42). Nothing changed, turning touchpad on/off, even in bios, does not change anything there. Using UltraNav (also installed the last available) I turned of extra functionality for touchpad buttons, and now at least upper buttons works in expected way, presing touchpad also do not show popup anymore. after bios updating, in Ubuntu no visible changes: upper buttons function as before, touchpad itself works well, bottom buttons do not work at all. Lokks like I can't do anything about it

Hi, whilst on my laptop today for no apparent reason my touchpad decided to stop working properly, it will still move the mouse around the screen, however does nothing when I double tap anything. The left click button has also ceased to work at all, click and nothing the right hand button is working fine.

I have reinstalled the drivers and I am currently using a mouse via the USB port which is working fine. I have also checked the options to make sure that the left click hasn't been assigned to another button or something odd like that. I'm afraid I really am at a bit of a loss as to what could be wrong.

If anyone could please point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks guys

I can't tell if it's because I did something with "tapping" (I thought I'd turned all that junk off) or accidentally hit the middle top button (what is that for anyway?) but it just stops working, I've learned to close the lid and open it again and the left-click is live again (the right-click doesn't have this problem). Think I have the latest drivers, I've messed around with several different downloads to try to get this thing to work better, it's a total POS I would return the whole thing because of it but it's past 21 days and I'm not sure what machine I would get to replace it.

Do you mean the illuminated buttons between keyboard and notebook display?

If yes they are controlled by Value Added Package but before you reinstall this tool, remove the old version first. Then restart the notebook and install latest version of Value Added Package again.

By the way, what OS you are using?

If we delete the driver and let the 2015 driver install then all the buttons work fine.  Install the newer driver from last week and the buttons break again.   All 6 of our P50 machines are doing this that we just got. Hi everyone, new to the forum and I'm hoping you can help me out. My wife has an Aspire E15 (E5-511-P8C8) using Windows 8.1 and a little while ago the click functionality stopped working. The touchpad itself works (it can be used to move the cursor), but it is not possible to make a right click or left click using the buttons.  I've tried the suggestions I could find in the forum (reinstalling IO Chipset and Synaptics drivers, reinstalling all drivers off the Acer website, updating BIOS version), but nothing has worked.  I'm wondering whether it might be a hardware issue? Is there anything else I could try? Many thanks for any and all suggestions! -Alex

Hi everybody, My left-click has stopped working on my Thinkpad T420s. I've tried all the methods of doing it on the laptop - by clicking the button below the touchpad, clicking the button above the touchpad, tapping the touchpad, and tapping the red trackball. None of these ways works. Not sure if it's a hardware or software problem, but if it's software, what might be the issue? Thanks.

Answer:Left mouse click not working on buttons or touchpad

Go into the BIOS menu, in under 'Config' -> 'Mouse + Keyboard'. Disable the Trackpad, save and exit. See whether the TrackPoint left click works. If it doesn't, then go into the BIOS again, disable the TrackPoint and Enable the TrackPad.Your problem maybe cause by either the TrackPad or TrackPoint left click button's circuitry short-circuiting.

Answer:Re: NB520 - touchpad buttons not working after BIOS update

I don?t know if this is BIOS related issue but if there is no way to get buttons work again I recommend you to reinstall OS using recovery mode. Test buttons functionality with ?factory settings.

By the way: does touchpad works properly?
Can you use external mouse properly?

Hi, Im having a small issue with my L420... every now and then the mousepad wont work. The touchpad may give out, and the red trackpoint remain functional, or vice-versa, or both may go out. I find that changing the voume, or typing sometimes solves this issue. I do have an external mouse that i plug in when this happens, but i do not want this issue to get any worse.  This may be unrelated, and may need a new post, but sometimes when this happens, my keyboard gets REALLY messed up... Typing "X" for example will make a "/", and the keys i press type something completley random.. Letters typed, will show up as numbers, or dashes, etc. At this point, i just restart my laptop and it corrects itself... any help?

hey troop4five,i would like you to uninstall the mouse/trackpoint drivers from your unit and let windows install its generic drivers.see if the issue occurs then go to http://support.lenovo.com and reinstall the drivers

Firstly I'll explain the freezing issue (this is now the 3rd time I've typed this, as the first two times my laptop froze before I finished!)I run my laptop with the battery at 100% and plugged in and that's fine; as is running it on battery. The problem arises when my battery is low and I plug it into recharge. Soon after it's running on a/c the screen will go black and only way to shut down is by holding the power button. If I try to restart it too soon, the indicator lights next to the power button will illuminate, but the screen will stay black. Usually after 5-10 minutes it'll boot to the IBM screen & boot the rest of the way, but not too long into normal operation it'll go black again (sometimes hitting ctrl/alt/del will bring the screen back but it would be very distorted (pixilized) and would go black again and reboot. What could be causing these problems while recharging the battery? I've tried this with a couple different batteries (both OEM IBM) and it does it with both.  Secondly, both left and right "mouse" buttons are now nonfunctional (though the middle button of the track points works.) I have the latest version of Ultranav Wizard and all the buttons are enabled. The touch pad and trackpoint ball work fine, just the 2 left and 2 right buttons do not. What could be the culprit for this issue? Luckily I have a usb mouse so that's what I'm using for the time being.Message Edited by GoalieFergy53 on 02-14-2009 02:30 PM

This is the second time i am posting this due to no replies: I recently bought a Lenovo G505s about a month ago. Everything is fine with it until i downloaded Steam and downloaded some games. 3 of the games i downloaded are shooters and therefore require the left mouse button. But when i click it to shoot, it doesn't respond sometimes and is very laggy. This is not the fault of the game as i tried it in different ones but the problem is still there. i tried to switch round the buttons (so that the right button is to shoot and the left to aim) and it works fine. I would prefer to have it the usual way around so does anyone have a way to fix this? did this happen to you? If it is needed here are some specs for the pc:AMD A8 6gb ramWIndows 8.1  also the buttons and trackpad work completely fine with everything else except games including Minecraft. it seems that when i am moving with WASD the button doesn't work but the right click button does. Can someone please give me a reply?

Answer:G505s Touchpad buttons not working properly while gaming?

hi AdreesInator,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

There is a feature on Touchpad software and driver to lessen the touchpad Sensitivity when using the keyboard to prevent touchpad movement when typing,
I believe this is the cause.

First try to open Control Panel and look for Hardware and sound then Mouse
Then you will find a TAB at the top right for your touchpad.
Click that and select Settings or properties, This is how it looks.

Click the settings and once inside look for Palm check Option, This is the feature that changes the sensitivity and response accuracy of the touchpad

If you can't find this Palm check inside the touchpad settings, you might need to uninstall the touchpad driver and just use the WIndows Generic driver as the Driver does not support changing it.
If this is the case
Open Control Panel and look under Mice and other pointing device and uninstall your Synaptics or ELAN then go Open COntrol Panel / Add remove Programs / Uninstall a program and uninstall Synaptics or Egis tech ELAN.
Then try your Games with the touchpad and it should work fine

Hope this helps
Cheers!

HI,
I have just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. everything seems to be fine till now apart from the touchpad.
The problem is that every time I press a button on the keyboard the touchpad stops working for about 4 seconds.
another things is that most buttons do that, but for example the ctrl, function, alt and windows keys don't cause this problem.

Any Idea what can cause this? and do you know any solutions please??
I tried updating the drivers for both keyboard and touchpad, but that didn't solve the problem.
It's very frustrating and I'm considering to goback to windows 7!

Many Thanks :)

I've had my XPS15 for over a year now, and I recently noticed that my touchpad is starting to life off the palm rest area of the machine, and the buttons no longer work. Also, is this a commonly reported problem with this model?

My laptop is less than 2 months old.  I've tried updating the drivers, rolling them back, uninstalling them completely and reinstalling them.I've tried disabling and re-enabling the touchpad.I've even tried rolling it back to factory settings because I thought windows 8.1 was interfering with the drivers. I have no idea what to try next.I don't think it's a hardware issue, since the touchpad is still able to move the cursor, magnify, scroll, do everything else except click. If you have any tips or idea of what I should try next please let me know.

I am experiencing an annoying problem - my trackpad stopped working. I have narrowed it down to a driver issue. Because if i uninstall the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav"-driver the trackpad starts working. As soon I install it again it stops. I have tried rebooting and it's no difference. When the driver is installed I cannot even the "Mouse" dialog in control panel.  I have tried the latest drivers: 18.0.7.40 as well as the previous driver. Same result. I have downloaded the drivers through the website as well as with Lenovo support app.  My model is the new X1 Carbon, model: 20A7005UM5 not even 2 weeks old. It worked until yesterday. The only thing done since is the regular update by Windows 8.1. I even tried a system restore before the updates but now there is no difference.  I want to point out that, when driver is uninstalled, the trackpad works, but without all the functionality. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Regards,Jan

Hello,i was looking at the new 550 450 series and saw that Lenovo had returned to the old trackpoint buttons. Also i've notised for the short time i was able to take the quick look that the size of the new trackpad + buttons is the same as the trackpad in the 540 series. Also noticed that they didn't changed the keyboard, so the buttons are not connected to the keyboard as in the old ThinkPads, instead they're one module with the touchpad. So i was wondering if i buy it as a spare part would i be able to install it.Does anyone knows what are the exact sizes, what is the connection cable and etc.

I have a user in my organization that has a X120e notebook.  She used Fn+F8 to disable the touchpad and buttons as she prefers the trackpoint.  However, the buttons for the trackpoint turned off with this option.  I changed the settings where I turned off the trackpoint and left the trackpad on and the trackpad buttons worked just fine. I updated the driver to 15.3.6.0 and restarted hoping that it would resolve but it did not work. Has anyone else ran into this issue where the trackpoint buttons do not work when the trackpad is disabled?  I know it works correctly on my W520, so it is not a Lenovo UltraNav way of life.

I recently got my P70 laptop and everything was working fine until recently.  The buttons above and below the trackpad to right and left click does not work at all, I have to use an external mouse to be able to click. The only button that works is the one in the middle that does the scrolling for the Trackpoint. My computer does not recognize a left clicks sometimes, even after I turned off the delay in the windows settings, it just freezes. Another problem that I've been having is that the left Ctrl button stopped working as well. The one on the right still functions properly but I have no idea what happened to the left button.  Does anyone else have the same problem as me? or would it be something wrong with the keyboard/Trackpad? Any help is appriciated.

Answer:Trackpad buttons does not work p70

Remove the keyboard and reattach the ribbon cables. It sounds like they might not be fully seated.

I have a recently purchased x1 Carbon that is acting very strange.   First of all, the buttons above the trackpad seem to do nothing.  The right one seems to correctly right click, but the left one doesn't do anything at all.  My trackpad works fine (works well for scrolling and for clicking) until I press one of the buttons above it (meant for right and left clicking).  As soon as I press one of those buttons, the clicking function of the trackpad completely stops working.  I can still scroll with it, but can't click on anything.  I'm using the latest ultranav driver as downloaded from the Lenovo website.  Am I missing something here?  What is the problem? Using Windows 7 64 bit.

Is there a way to turn off the trackpad over the buttons? Everytime I click a button the cursor moves. Quickly becoming a nuisance.

Hey everyone, Some juice splashed on the left key (below the trackpad) of my W530. Its sticking and I want to get in there. I've searched around and I haven't found any infomation regarding how to remove these keys. Anyone know of any techniques. I've considered just prying them out but I don't want to risk breaking them.  Thanks

I bought Acer Predator 17" (GX-792) the deep learning research purpose, and I installed Ubuntu 16.04 as dual booting. I think everything works well, except trackpad. There are two buttons in the trackpad, which should be supposed to work as `primary`(left) and `secondary`(right) button. However, when I tested in the system mouse testing menu, I found that OS recognizes the left button as `secondary` and the right button as `middle`. How can I fix this? Could anyone please help? * For information, I tested with external USB mouse, and it works well.

Yesterday, out of absolutely nowhere, the clicking buttons on the bottom-left and bottom-right of my trackpad stopped working. I'd press down on them, but it almost felt like there was a physical blockage > they wouldn't click at all even if I pressed down hard. It was really troubling, since it meant that I'd always have to use an external mouse. (My laptop had fallen off the bed the previous night, so I figured that it was a result of that, even though it wasn't a bad fall and was cushioned by the carpet). Today, however, everything is back to normal. Both corners of the trackpad click easily and crisply, just as they had before. My question, though, is what the heck happened? Is this going to be a recurring problem? It's almost as though something had 'locked' the trackpad such that the corners wouldn't allow themselves to be clicked (note that the touch-sensitive scrolling functionality wasn't affected, just the clicking.) Seemed like a serious hardware problem, but now it seems back to normal (for the time being at least). I just want to know what happened, since it's very weird and unlike anything that I've seen before.

So, we see that the P-Series have re-introduced physical trackPAD Buttons some years ago.... And there a 3-button design. When will we see these return to T-series? Still haven't read about the benefits of "NO" trackPAD Buttons...  Still haven't purchased a new T-series (T4xxs) since the 430s. Will '480' be when there's a resurgence of purchases of the T-series?

Hello! I just bought a ThinkPad P50 (Type 20EN) less than two months ago.  Already the trackpad buttons are malfunctioning.  When I single-click the computer is reacting as if I double-clicked.  It makes it almost impossible to use the computer except with an external (USB) mouse.Ideas, anyone? Thanks,-Brian

I did a touchpad update  and now the buttons switch around. when one works the other will pop up with a tiny menu ive never seen before. If both buttons work the touchpad wont work. I have put them to default and it works for a bit then will switch again. Didn't have this problem till that stupid update. I have a dell 15-3552 laptop and its less than 2 months old.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if Lenovo is going to ship the upcoming Haswell T440/T540 line of notebooks with a trackpad that has dedicated left/right buttons, or, if they're going to go with a non-buttoned approach? I've got a couple people waiting on these but they're the type that will do far better with actual physical buttons than just a flat trackpad they have to click "somewhere" on in just the right manner. Really hoping Lenovo is sticking with what works rather than getting needlessly fancy (or cheap)... Chuck

Answer:T440/T540: Will the trackpad have dedicated left and right buttons?

X240s and T440s are already out, and they don't have any physical buttons for trackpad.  I think you can safely assume all of the 40-series ThinkPads will have the same keyboard/trackpad.

Per the marketing page:
... a larger, smooth trackpad with 5-point click integration ? indicated by subtle bumps and stripes ? can be configured multiple ways through Settings...

I have a Toshiba Z830-10U.

Does anyone know how which piece(s) of software I need in order for the two programmable buttons near the power button (the eco button and the presentation button) and the button that should toggle on/off the trackpad (between the space bar and the track pad) to work?

Currently these three buttons do nothing when pressed. All other software is running correctly.

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite Z830-10U - How to get eco/presentation/trackpad buttons to work?

So Lenovo has released the 2015 version of the Thinkpad Yoga 14. In the online manual it says that some models do and others don't have separate trackpad buttons. How do you know whether the specific models offers do or don't? The images in Lenovo's online store show the Thinkpad Yoga 14 without the separate buttons...

I'm at a complete loss. Why would I want my buttons to be touch sensitive? When I attempt to actually do what they're meant for, CLICKING, the cursor is moved off of my target. Right clicking is basically pointless to attempt. Then in (flash) games, where I need to both click and move the mouse at the same time, they are fighting each other to move in opposite directions. It's completely useless as it is. Am I missing something? Is there some voodoo trick that will allow me to do what every other laptop has been able to do for 20 years?

If not, is there some way to disable the touch sensitivity of the buttons, but NOT the entire trackpad?

Thanks

Answer:How do I disable the touch sensitivity of the trackpad buttons on my HP dv6t?

You should be able to do this if you go into control panel, click on mouse and make the adjustments there.

Exactly what the title says. I use the trackpad often, but I alternate between clicking with the top buttons and bottom buttons depending on the task at hand. When I use the top buttons, it freezes the trackpad for a second or so during which time I can't move the cursor. To reproduce, try doing a click & drag motion using the track pad and top button. Or, move the track pad and wiggle the nipple. In both cases, it's disabled until you lift your finger and drag down again. Click & drag using the bottom buttons works just fine.  I haven't been able to find any options in the UltraNav menus to disable this "feature", and it's driving me nuts. Does anyone know of a away to make the top buttons work just the same as the bottom?

Answer:W520 Trackpad pauses after using top buttons or nipple pointer.

I experienced this issue briefly when my W520 was new. I just rolled back the drivers and it worked fine.

Hello, I have recently had a problem with my track pad buttons where the right-click button does not work at all and the left click button functions as a right-click only on the desktop. However, when using a usb connected mouse it works fine, no problems with left or right clicks. I thought it could be a virus so I reformatted my PC and still the problem exists. I am think either the driver is corrupt or there is a hardware issue with the track pad. Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated, this is extremely frustrating

Answer:T520 - 4242 AT9 - Trackpad buttons dont work properly

Kindly install the UltraNav driver and utility it will resolve the issue.
