X201 Tablet (3093) Audio problem OS Deployment - XP SP2 Tablet Edition

Question: X201 Tablet (3093) Audio problem OS Deployment - XP SP2 Tablet Edition

Hello. We've got an unusual problem when applying driverpackage for lenovo x201.OSD with SCCM 2007.. The Audio driver installs successfully during OSD (with silent install switch) and in devicemanager we can see that the conexant 20585 Smart Audio HD driver has been installed. Same with "Intel screen audio". But in the Audio options in controlpanel all the fields is grayed out. There is with other words no associated soundcard / standard device. If we install the driver again, logged in as an user the recently grayed out fields in Audio options automagically now shows the correct input / output devices (Conexant audio) and the sound starts working. Is there some issue when installing drivers in SYSTEM context?Notice: There is no "?" in device manager. BR!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:lenovo x201 tablet 3093-bf8 support multi touch??(pen & finger)

3093-bf8 does not appear in the tabook reference so it was probably a custom build. Most X201 tablets do not support finger touch, but you can find the screen FRU by entering your serial number here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page

Has anyone run into the problem where there is no audio on an X61 tablet even though SoundMax drivers are shown to be installed properly?  Any help would be appreciated. Thx

Answer:No audio on X61 tablet running Window XP Tablet Edition

I have the same issue right now on an X60 tablet that I just upgraded to Vista Ultimate.  All of my drivers are up to date, except it shows on windows update that I have an audio driver still to update.  I go through the process, and then it will not install the update.  I wish I could help with this more, but wanted to let you know that others have similar problems. I hope someone can help us.B

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

I'm new to the Tablet community but excited to venture into it.  My workplace provided me with an X201 Tablet type 2985 model C5U.  The pen works great but I can emulate any of the finger/touch demos.  Is this not supported with my type or model?  Or do I need a special driver.  When I open the tablet PC settings, I'm given the option to identify my screen as PEN or TOUCH.  While I select TOUCH, no finger combination (one or two) that presses my screen will invoke anything.  I was hoping this would be a touch solutoin albeit more powerful than the iPad.  Appreciate your responses everyone. Thank you. L

Stylus works great in landscape mode but when I switch to portrait the pointer moves  all over the screen. I can't Calibrate because when I open it and get the screen touching it  gives no response. Tech Support wants me to re-image my computer  but I want to do that as a last resort since it will  mean several hours of reloading programs.  I think it is driver related.

Hi, I have the problem that whenever the systems needs more power (for example when I converte photos from raw to jepg) my sound interrupts quite often. Often I could hardly use my computer, because my courser is jumping over the screen and everything is very slow. I have found out that the task manager says that I uses 100% of my CPU. this would explain why everything is so slow, but i guess this isn't normal. I had a look at the event viewer and figured out that everytime before I have these problems I got the warning with event-id 37: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for xxx seconds since the last report. I saw this phenomenon with and without ultrabase and with and without battery mode. I used several different power profiles.I did a clean install and installed all drivers with lenovo systemupdate (except: Intel AMT 6.0 - Management Engine Interface and Serial Over LAN (SOL) Driver, ThinkVantage Active Protection System) my system:  x201 Tabletwindows 7 professional 64 bit - sp1Bios Version: 6QET69WW (1.39 )4GB RamSamsung SSD 380 I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 could anyone help me, or does anyone has an idea where to start to solve this problem.

Hello, I recently just purchased the x201 tablet.  The finger touch works fine, however my pen is very strange. My pen starts activated when I'm about 2cm away from the screen,  I can't click on anything and everything seems to be moving by itself.  The pen works when I'm not touch the screen.  Attempting to write the pen doesn't detect that you've left the screen so it continues to scribble everything.  I have no idea what is going on but it is annoying and it is useless if the pen doesn't work Can somebody please help me

Hi. I were trying to find a search function but without success. However, here is my problem. My trackpad stops working, or the half side of it. I have searched through Google and looked at several forums without luck, and installed different Ultranav drivers as well Synaptics drivers. The problem always comes back, and the laptop is just a month old. My other problem is an severe stylus accuracy problem. This is drawn with a ruler. At the edges the cursor just "spins off", looses controll! I have tried with different drivers as well with Linux (Ubuntu 11.04) and the problem always remains. I also tried with a stylus from HP with the same result. I have searched through several forums and have barely encounted someone else with an X201 and this kind of problem. (The x220 seems to have the same problem) What should I do? The stylus accuracy problem is anoying, but the trackpad problem is terrible and often useless.Thanks/Andre

According to Microsoft on this site.... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/multitouch-hardware-reqs "....If you have touch input hardware that isn't specifically designed for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, but displays the "Designed for Windows" logo for Windows 7, you'll experience touch responsiveness at least as good as it was on Windows 7...." Based on that, I upgraded my Lenovo X201 Tablet with Windows 7 (kept up to date with Lenovo's System update, and windows update, and working well), and lost the touch screen and pen abilities completely. In system manager I have an unknown device, but no Wacom device in Human Interface Devices; and in control panel I don't have either "Pen and Touch", or "Tablet PC Settings". I tried installing the W7 drivers from the Lenovo site in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and it displayed the error "No supported tablet was found". Having failed the upgrade, I proceeded to do a clean install, and had exactly the same result. Must clarify the update was to Windows 8 Pro, then all windows and Lenovo updates, and the upgrading to 8.1 from the store, and all windows and Lenovo updates again. So I'm dumbfounded. If I lost the touch ability as advertised at least as good as it was on Windows 7...., I will go back to Windows 7. I posted this on the Microsoft site, and the Microsoft Engineer said that this happens when the hardware was not realy designed for Windows 7 ... After several minutes into the update I got the message that the ISD driver must be uninstalled! Why it couldn't tell me that before when checking my system for the update is a MS glitch I think. I stopped the update.

This driver is for the touch screen in tablet mode I think so will that facility not work in Win 10 or will there be a Win 10 ISD driver?

I cannot find out from the Lenovo support sites but from Googling 'Win 10 update for ISD driver' I got the Lenovo page link http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds041384 which I don't understand.

Can anyone please enlighten me on this matter - thanks.

Hi, I just got my ultrabase today so I plugged it in right away.  Just now I noticed that the fan on the computer has been all the time and pushing hot air out of the vents.... it never used to do that before without the dock and I'm kinda worried about the ventilation on this thing... Is this something I should be concerned about?  edit:  i just ran CPUID HW with my power setting on high performance with my external monitor and tablet monitor on and with 2 videos running ... WMP had a dvd quality movie playing and itunes was running with a another video... + onenote and firefox running (for about 15 minutes) and my max temperature was 78 celsius ... is this too hot?

Answer:x200 ultrabase: heat/ventilation problem with my x201 tablet?

notebooks do tend to run a little hotter when they're on a base.  your temps while running all that stuff is bordering on being a little hot.  you might want to make sure your vents are clear and free from dust. blow them out with a can of air.  i have to blow mine out about once a month, they just attract dust.

I'd like to upgrade the display on my x201 laptop. The outdated TFT display is getting a bit old. And I could use some expert advice - or even intelligent guesses as to whether certain LCD panels will work in the x201 laptop. The usual advice to upgrade a x201 laptop display is to go with a Hydis AFFS (similar to IPS) display e.g. the HV121WX4-120. Or alternately a Samsung PVA display e.g. the LTN121AP02-001. These are CFFL panels, so given my LED laptop, I'd also need an inverter (42W8009 or 42W8010) and CFFL variant cable e.g. 44C9909.  Okay great. But for various reasons I'd very much prefer to retain the WLED backlight, rather than change to a CFFL display. There are any number of forum posts saying that this isn't possible. But that appears to be refuted by some well documented threads that describe successful retrofits of better spec LED backlit panels in their x201 laptops e.g. using a Samsung LTN121AT07-L02 (27R2451) WLED LCD. With that thought in mind, I'm trying to discern whether a x201 tablet screen will work in my x201 laptop? e.g. a Samsung LTN121AP0310 or Toshiba LTD121KX6B-110 LCD. These are multitouch LCDs. I'm not counting on the multitouch to be operational. Just whether the LCD screen will work in a conventional manner in the laptop. Has anyone heard of these panels being retrofitted into a x201 laptop? Or spot any obvious impediments to using them in the laptop?    --Stock (original) x201 laptop LCD: Au Optroni... Read more

Answer:Upgrade x201 laptop.. with a X201 tablet screen?

I was browsing Tablet PCs recently (looking to buy one now that the hype is over and they're more affordable) and I noticed some that came with XP Tablet edition (home/pro) and some that just came with XP home/pro.

Is it really worth the extra $$$ to get the "tablet edition" on a tablet PC or are you just as well off to go with regular XP and the normal touch-screen-input driver?

Answer:is "tablet edition" worth the extra $$$ on a tablet PC?

How much more do they want for tablet over xp pro?

Tablet PC is xp pro with the tablet pc fuctions added. If you are getting a tablet then get the os that works best with it.

I am afraid it might be a hardware issue as the problem started when i turned the screen from laptop to tablet mode. Currently My X230t is just a Laptop and NOT a TABLET as there is NO touch and NO pen input, as if windows doesn't even recognize any tablet hardware on board. PLEASE HELP. Thankyou

Perhaps the cable got severed when you were turning it around? I've had a Wifi antenna cable break this way on an HP tablet... If it's still under warranty have them check it and replace it if necessary. It could also be a loose connector but there's no way to be sure without opening the screen assembly.

I am having a VERY odd issue with Windows XP Pro and Tablet PC Edition.

I have been following Microsoft's Single-Image Deployment Supplemental Guide which discusses single-image deployment and how to use this process to deploy Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 in your organization while using your existing Windows XP Professional image.

I followed the article to a T and imported all the Tablet PC components in the Sysprep directory and then re-syspreped the box. At first once mini-setup finished the system would lock up on the Windows XP splash screen about the 3rd time the progress bar cycled through. So I went to Safe Mode and everything worked like a charm. So just as a troubleshooting step I tried to use Safe Mode with Networking. That locked up at the splash screen in the same spot which lead me to believe it was a networking issue. So I disabled all listed networking adapters and tried to boot into normal mode.

Once I saw "Applying Computer Settings" I thought all was good. So I waited until I saw the standard "Press Cntrl-Alt + Delete to Login" screen. So I hit cntrl alt delete and nothing happend. So I tried moving the mouse, and to my amazment, the entire computer is hard locked. This is happening everytime I reboot the computer into Normal mode and the login screen appears. So I tried to go back into Safe Mode with Networking to test that theory again. Although I am able to get logged into the system the system actually hard lo... Read more

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... Good Afternoon,

I have performed a conversion to XP Pro on the x201 Tablet. Everything seems to be in order but the 4 buttons on the screen do not seem to be working at intended.
The button with the circular arrow symbol performs a Ctrl Alt Del, the other 3 do nothing.

I believe I installed the proper drivers for this.

Answer:X201 Tablet + Win XP

I am having the same issue. I also am unable to use the pen, though finger touch works (on my model). Unfortunately, we are having to use XP for the application we use on the tablets. The factory 7 image works fine.

I have an IBM ThinkPad X41 that was issued to me from work. I would like to reinstall the operating system to get rid of all the garbage that's on it. But, they don't have the CD's that came with the laptop. The COA on the bottom of the X41 is for WinXP Pro Tablet Edition. But, I don't have a copy in the office and they can't find it anywhere. Should I install Windows XP Professional on it or should I somehow contact IBM for the CD's to be reissued?

Any ideas???

Thanks!

Hi,I would like to know if the signal from the vga connector is digital or analog because since I connected the x201 tablet directly to my monitor ( vga->vga [analog] ) the screen is flickering. So I guess that I should buy another cable to connect it to the dvi-d port of my monitor. but unfortunately there is no dvi port on this x201-tablet computer. Is there an advantage if I buy a vga->dvi-d cable ? Or will the screen still be flickering? Is the signal from the vga-port on the x201tablet a digital or analog signal? Thanks,Michael  Bildschirm - Philips 240SW (PnP-Monitor (Standard))                                                                                           Modus        1920 x 1200 (32-Bit) (59 Hz)                                                    ... Hey everyone, I ran Factory Recovery Disks in the thinkvantage tools and made both the Boot Disk and the Data Discs. I used a CD-RW disc and the Boot Disc was copied onto 1 disc, and the Data Discs consist of 14 discs.  My thought was that if I turn on my computer, push the blue thinkvantage button and then boot from my CD drive (in my ultrabay) it would take me to a Rescue and Recovery menu where I can then reformat my harddrive, and reload the machine back to factory settings, however what happened when I booted from my CD drive, was that it just started back up as normal. I've been at this since last night, and there is very little resources, I have absolutely no idea how to reformat my laptop. Please help. Edit: When I booted from the CD drive, I was of course, using the Boot Disc that I had copied. I haven't done anything with the Data Discs as of yet.

Hi everyoneI have just gotten my x201 tablet, and have 2 questions.1. The screen has one dead pixel, is that common for x201t?2. I found neither the pen nor the touch screen is accurate. And because you can not see the cursor before you touch the screen, it's hard to catch a button or a menu item by touching. I need to try several times to get it even after calibration. Is it common for you?Thank you for your reply.

Answer:2 questions about my X201 tablet

My screen doesn't have any dead pixels, so I want to say that isn't normal, and I would try to get it exchanged. Calibration isn't perfect on any tablet, but when calibrating you need to try to calibrate it with the screen oriented how you will use it in tablet mode, and calibrate with the screen at whatever angle you will typically use it in. Typically the screen is the most accurate in the center and the least accurate along the edges. I've also read that it will never be better than how it was from the factory, so I just reset mine and have adapted how I write to the factory calibration. After a week or two you don't even notice if the stylus matches up perfectly on screen. But then again, if your screen is messed up, you might have a bigger calibration problem than what is normal. EDIT: My x201 doesn't have multitouch, so you should wait and let others chime in regarding multitouch calibration.

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the x201 Tablet to Windows 10?

Answer:x201 Tablet - Windows 10

I have been testing this,  I have had the touch working in earlier builds but now the Live version installed on bare drive resulted in no bluetooth and no touch,   pen works, the touch was working in some of the very early build but I dont remember when it stopped,  I was just using the fast installs where it was updating the os from the prevous version not a complete reinstall.  On this last go round the device manager does not show anything that is installed that has a problem it just does not see the touch,  not sure if this might have something to do with it but it named the machine "Desktop......"  not knowing it was a laptop that might have touch>

Hi there, I realise that the x201 tablet does not have a iee 1394 firewire port but, was wondering if there is anyway to add this to the ultrabase 200 as an option because this does not seem to offer this option either - surely this would not be a difficult thing to add even as a cardbus ... or perhaps it is. Hello, I recently purchased the X201 core i7 tablet with 8gb ram 500gb hdd superbright screen and i was obviously ecstatic when i got it from the UPS man  As a graphic artist I rely on pen sensitivity on tablets, and much to my dismay the pen sensitivity just didnt work at all for me. I since read the forums and realise that so many people have an issue with this and with much reading around i found that there were barely any answers/fixes. So, i will tell you what fixed this for me. Now this worked for me, it may not work for you but i hope it can help some people. I read on a forum elsewhere that for Photoshop you can fix this problem by turning OpenGL rendering off in Preferences->Performance. I did this and restarted CS4 and to my absolute delight it had fixed the issue, but not only for Photoshop! for the whole system! I must admit i had tried all the other fixes and merged installer fixes and none of them worked properly, but somewhere along the line i lost track of which drivers i was on when i got it working, but i do recommend trying this. Hope it helps and lenovo...... this laptop cost me 1700 and pen sensitivity is not supplied to me working properly! please please look into this and make it a core function as it is such a let down when youve looked forward to this otherwise brilliant piece of kit for so long. ruthy

I _just_ bought a new X201 tablet, and am very happy with it, except that the screen color is very yellowish or orangish. Green trees look brown, blue skies look grey. I tried both calibrating through Color Management in the Control Panel and endless adjustments in Intel's Control Center. It's as if there's just very little blue in the screen--a mechanical issue. Mind you, it's crisp and clear; it just makes everything look like a photo taken under incandescent light with a camera set for daylight..  Anyone else?

Answer:Color on X201 tablet

I've never seen that with a brand new machine, but it does tend to happen with IPS screens after a while - i.e. backlight wear.So the question is - do you see this color shift even in the BIOS screen? If so, you'll need to have it fixed under warranty.

Hello,I got a X201 Tablet with the multitouch display a month ago, it's an awesome machine, but recently I noticed a very faint CPU whine noise coming from the upper left of the body, close to the fan. the noise level is comparable to the noise of the fan at mid speed, so it's not terrible, but my problem and maybe same as other people out there is as soon as you discoreved, your brain tunes to it and you can hear it above anything, or I'm going crazy. My question is if this is something normal? the system is under warranty from lenovo, should I send it in, but any chance I will get it back with the same noise. I guess I can live with it if it doesn't become louder, but I don't know really want to do.. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi all, I ordered an x201 tablet (should be here within a week) but i just need a little clarification on a few things i couldn't really find answers to. 1. I purchased it without a WWAN card (as i didn't know WWAN upgradable meant you needed to buy a card separately) and i want both WWAN and GPS. Does the Gobi 2000 card on the lenovo website come with GPS? as there is no mention of it having GPS capabilities. 2. Is a screen protector worth it? I have a multi-touch screen, but after looking on the internet there seems to be a problem with screen protectors affecting the multi-touch features. (i'm not that bothered with scratches or smudges, but will not using such a protector create black spots?) 3. To increase battery life is it possible to install an express card SSD and tell the system to store frequently used items there? What sort of program would i need or will windows 7 do this for me? 4. It comes with a 1 year depot warranty, can i purchase more before the 1 year expires? is it worth it and what does it cover? 5. Is there a slice battery for the x201t like the T and W series? from what i have been reading the 8 cell battery doesn't get anywhere near the stated 8 hours, can anyone confirm this? Sorry for all the questions, probably should have researched a bit more before buying it. Regards, Dennis

Answer:Few questions about the X201 Tablet

Well i just got my X201 Tablet i can answer a few of these questions. -Screen protector won't work with multi-touch features so they are probably not worth it.-Installing an SSD card in the expresscard slot using (readydrive i think) won't really help battery life-warranty can be upgraded, but seems to be a hit and miss as most of the repairs on the x201 tablet are considered user payable items.-Battery life with very light use using an 8 cell battery is around 4 hours with half brightness and wifi. Still unsure about the gobi 2000 WWAN card. Can someone confirm that all lenovo Gobi 2000 cards come with GPS capabilities, if not, where would i find one with both WWAN and GPS. Thanks

As there seems to be no user manual (those indicated by Lenovo support do not describe the machine at all) is there a source of info on this? For example my Touch Chip Fingerprint Co processorprint Coprocessor is 'working working normally' but how to turn it on and use it?The diagrams on top of the F buttons are a mystery - the one on F9 seems fairly clear but pressing this put the computer to 'Sleep'.  So what do the others do? I don't like to experiment and get into trouble. In Control Panel or anywhere else there is no mention of the webcam - how to get that going? I'd be grateful for any help.

Short answer: you can't.

Lenovo OEM Windows recovery media is not available as a legal download. You should contact Lenovo Service (info below) to discuss your options for obtaining recovery media. They will confirm MTM and serial number, I believe, and there may be an associated cost.

Regards.

Today I got my new Lenovo X201 Tablet PC and bought it with a new 160 GB SSD from Intel. I booted with the installed hard disc and created a recovery media on a 32 GB USB Stick. I chose both options boot and data recovery. Now I changed the hard disc to the new SSD but it doesn't boot from the recovery USB Stick with message "no valid operating system". The USB Stick was formatted and is now used with ~8GB. What was my mistake?

Answer:Installing Win7 on X201 tablet (new SSD)

I haven't tried this, but I assume that you would need to go into the BIOS and change the boot device for this session, or hit some key when the BIOS is coming up to get a boot menu.  The BIOS prompts tell you what keys to press.  Now that you know what to look for, you should be able to do your install. I'm thinking of getting that 160G Intel SSD too, although I would probably try using TrueImage to restore from a backup of the old disk.  Let us know how that SSD install goes (and how performance is afterwards).

Hey guys,  I just purcahsed a refurbished X201 Tablet off of NewEgg and I am having problems with it already. Whenever I bring my stylus even close to the screen, the computer immediately blue screens. I have tried uninstalling the drivers, using both Wacom and Lenovo even though they're pretty much the same.  I've tried updating my BIOS, reinstalling a ton of drivers and nothing.  Any ideas? Advice? It's driving me nuts. I love absolutely everything else about it, its lightning fast and works amazing otherwise.

I woke this morning to find my x201 tablet would not start or show any signs of powering on. Initially, I saw the power light (signifying it is plugged in) would come on, followed shortly after by the battery light which would flicker before they both turned off, then power light would come back on and the cycle would repeat. However, since first unplugging the computer to try it in various outlets I have not seen this happen. These indicator lights have an odd habit of remaining on: for example if I remove the battery the battery light stays on, and if I unplug the computer, as long as the battery is still in, it shows the "plugged in" light still on. I've tried powering up from various outlets, tried it with and without the battery and power cord, attempted the discharge static trick (removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds). Any ideas on what might be the issue? I'd love to figure out the root of this problem so I can work towards a solution.  EDIT: Tested power supply: it is working properly

Answer:x201 Tablet wont start

Hi, Try holding the power button down for 10 seconds and then pressing the power button again. If this works, it probably means the system won't wake up from sleep mode, and you had to do a hard reboot. I've been having the same problem with my Helix. If this works you can try looking at the system event logs to see what devices may be causing errors. I haven't solved my problem yet, but hopefully this at least helps you get started.

Some time in the last month, the tablet function of my X201 Tablet PC conked out.  I'm running Windows 7 (32 bit).  Perhaps there was something wrong with some driver update that was installed either through Windows Update or through the Lenovo Thinkvantage stuff.  I never managed to figure out what was wrong.  I tried installing various updates and drivers from both those sources, and from Wacom, without success.  I couldn't find any thread on the internet that discussed exactly this problem or suggested a solution.  It was a frustrating week! I seem to have solved the problem, though.  Through Control Panel -> Uninstall programs I found and uninstalled everything from Wacom, and all of the "Ultranav" driver stuff from Lenovo.  Altogether there were 6 or so things that I uninstalled.  Then I reinstalled Wacom's tablet driver (ISD Tablet, version 7.1.0-8), and then pen's back, and, indeed, working better than it ever has (the alignment calibration has been terrible since I bought the machine).  I haven't reinstalled the Ultranav drivers, and will probably refrain from doing so. I hope this helps the next frustrated Lenovo tablet user.

1. Auto screen rotation . How to set it up? I know there is screen rotation button, but auto rotation will be much convenient. 2. I used Windows 7 professional 64 bit, 2 GB RAM, i7 core processor. When I start the system, it is much slower than my another laptop, which used same OS, 4 GB RAM, only i2 core processor. I was wondering if the memory is an issue. Thanks a lot

Answer:Just got a new X201 tablet on Sept.20 . two questions

Hi there. For auto screen rotation activate your "Table Shortcut Menu" by pressing the fourth button from the lower left side to the right of the screen (this is including the power button as no.1)Then click on the "Settings" button on the lower left side of the menu.Near the bottom there is an option to "Enable Active Rotate", checking that and applying it will ask you to calibrate it. Follow the instructions and hit ok to apply and exit the menu. As for the Boot Up time, I had the exact same issue was trying to figure it out for weeks! The best painless option is to hit your Windows+R keys to start the run command. Type msconfig and hit ok. Then in the System Configuration dialog box select the "Boot" tab. Click on "Advance Options". Only check in the option for "Number of Processors" and in the drop down menu select the maximum number of processors that is allowed. Hit Apply and enjoy the faster boot times. This drastically reduced my boot up time from 1:30s to about 0:20s on SSD!!. I am not sure if your machine came with an ssd but if you are planning on upgrading make sure to get a "thinkpad/lenovo" brand, its been a pain dealing with tech support and their policy with 3rd party hardware!Good luck!

Hi,

Can anyone help me find out the exact details of the system build based on this info?

3093-W42  S/N xxxxx 10/06

I have looked everywhen and can't find a thing.  Want to know if the unit has bluetooth and what kind of touch screen (pen single or multi).  I am guessing pen because of the build year.

Thanks

Answer:x201 Tablet build specs

Good day.

Based on that MT-M, here's what the original build configuration should be:
ThinkPad X201 Tablet (3093-W42)i7-640LM(2.13GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN option, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, 8c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

Based on this: no bluetooth, and probably pen-only.

That's the best I can find.
Regards.

Hi, I'm recently got a X201 and installed Win 7 x64 on it. Basically, everything is working except the 4 buttons on the screen section of the laptop. (The power button works tho). I have installed all the latest drivers on the lenovo website, and still cannot get the buttons working. I believe that this buttons help with the flipping on the screen when using it in touch mode. The touch functionality of the laptop works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Derek

I just noticed a horizontal port, about 3/4"-to-1" wide, in the front of the x201 tablet, to the right of the screen-lock release slider.  What is this port for?  Might I have lost a cover for it, or is this always open?

Answer:x201 tablet - what is the front port for?

Hi jkriegel,

I think what you are refering to is the 5-in-1 Media Card Reader or 3-in-1 Media Card Reader Slot. (Screenie below)

The slot reader does not have a cover.

The lower right corner of the tablet screen is too sensitive; the pen is "clicking" even if it is not making contact with the actual tablet screen. This makes the tablet pen effectively useless and appears to be hardware error. I was able to reproduce this issue with the factory installed images of Windows 7 and Windows XP, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue. Can I please have RMA instructions for a refund on this system? Charge me restocking fees if you have to will, the system is in brand new condition but is unusable due to the tablet screen issue and the failure of booting cloned XP drives: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X201-Won-t-Boot-Blinking-Cursor/td-p/271217  Please respond ASAP, thank you.

Hi,I spilled abt 15-20 mLs of diet coke on my keyboard yesterday, powered down, removed the battery, saw the coke come outta the drains at the bottom (soaked up w paper towels) and sponged off the residual come from the top. I also removed the lil red button to make sure no fluid was stuck under it, and wiped out what I could. Afraid to remove keys for fear of not getting them back on right. My machine is out of warranty (and was a freebie replacement when my still under warranty x61 tablet totally died for the umpteenth time).I used a damp cloth to wipe down the keyboard/remove soda residue from the computer and placed it, along w the battery, in drierite and wrapped it in parafilm. My q- how long should i leave it in there to be most likely to be dry?Also- anything else a v non computer savvy person could do to increase the odds of it working? All of my data is backed up automatically, so thankfully that's not a concern. Thanks for the input!

'afternoon...
welcome to the community.

you may wish to download your pc's hardware maintenance manual:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/45n3683_03.pdf
starting on page 95, you'll see the process for removing your keyboard. if you feel comfortable doing so, you could see if there is any obvious soda residue, from anything that didn't go through the weep holes.

hth a bit.

edit: video (select "keyboard" from the left sidebar) - http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/content/CourseWarePublic/6625/course%20files/index.html
it shows as for the X200 tablet, but they are the same procedures.

So a few months ago I spilled a glass of water of my laptop (urgh). All was well, except the touchpad/trackpad have been iffy ever since. It is fairly functional if I can disable the touchpad buttons, then I can use the trackpad buttons/touchpad for clicking. Unfortunately the ultranav driver keeps giving me problems... sometimes it will work and then randomly stop working and I'll have to reinstall or try something else.In short... Is anybody experiencing ultranav issues/know a solution? And is there anywhere I can get a replacement for my touchpad? Thanks

So, party kicked off at my house on the bank holiday weekend. Some unidentified twerp decided to enter my office and use my laptop as a urinal. Now it won't switch on. I have an X201 with which I got upgraded warranty support along with the Accidental Damage Warranty. Considering this, I thought it would be quite easy for them to address this issue. But no. This damage is classed as a "biohazard" and as such is not class as accidental damage.  Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful in explaining to the Romanian tech staff that the fact that it was ACCIDENTALLY damaged is immaterial as to whether it is a biohazard or not. Anyway, despite me forking out a fortune for the upgraded warranty, they are refusing to fix it. After much toing and froing, they are still arguing with me that it is a biohazard, despite the fact that nowhere in the t's and c's does it specifically exclude certain liquids or indeed biohazards. It does state that if they cannot repair it, they will replace it. Therefore I have been pushing for this option instead. I am being passed from pillar to post waiting for a response. It is an absolute joke. Does anybody have any advice as to what I should do? I was considering taking these guys to court for costs incurred in getting my laptop repaired elsewhere (which are quite astronomical in comparison to a simple replacement) but any contact details (preferably UK based) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys... Answer:Liquid Damage to X201 Tablet

Wow, that is some awful luck. I keep my home office locked most of the time anyway as I have smaller kids but especially during social events. You just never know. Anyway, sorry to hear you're not getting anywhere with support. Have you tried contacting local service partners? Looks like there's a few in the area. I think if you explain your situation someone should be able to help you, hopefully.
