x220 got hot, and now screen display clarity issue?

Question: x220 got hot, and now screen display clarity issue?

Hello, I recently purchased a x220 and I am very happy with it. I turned off "sleep when closed" for some reason and then accidently left it in my bag for like 15-20mins. It was hot but didn't really smell like burnt plastic or anything. However I feel as if the screen is harder to get at the right brightness. It feels as if I have to get a very precise angle to view the screen at the proper brightness/clarity. However it is hard for me to say if there is any difference to before as this happened only a week after using it. It could be acting just fine and I am just paranoid so my question is has there been any issues that have come up like this before? Has overheating in a bag or something ever caused the LCD screen to function just slightly improperly? Thank you,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: x220 got hot, and now screen display clarity issue?

Well, first of all, I hope you're talking about the basic, TN LCD display, not the upgraded "Premium HD" IPS LCD screen. Anyway, personally I feel like it's so easy to be paranoid about screen quality and possible minor screen damage or defects, but Lenovo has owned up to the "ghosting" issue, so things can really happen sometimes. In your case, I wouldn't worry. Provided you are indeed talking about the basic TN screen and not the IPS, it sounds like your screen's viewing angles are performing normally. For some extra confidence, the Notebookcheck review of the X220 says their test unit got so hot under the sun that the plastic began to warp and bow, and even then, they didn't mention any screen degredation. And for that matter, isn't the X220 Mil-spec tested for heat? http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-X220-IPS-Subnotebook.55639.0.html

Hello,

I've purchased the Lenovo X220 laptop with the Premium HD IPS display and I do have a problem with it (see below).
Laptop was purchased something like month ago and I've spotted this after I've started to work with it more heavily but after 14 days, so I was not able to return it to the seller (http://www.lenovoonline.cz).

When you put backlight to maximum you see that the display is not evenly lighted and forming bright spots on the bottom of it. It's most noticable on the black background.

I've sent notebook for repair (http://www.pcnet.cz) with this description (translated to english):"With maximum brightness set and the black display/background (eg. BOOT screen) on the bottom edge of the display there are visible white spots/maps. Small but visible and not even with different sizes. It's most visible on black background and while limiting external light (darker room, working in the night). Spots highlights even more when you try to pull the display towards you into steeper angle."

The laptop has been in the repair for 2 weeks and the result was this description:
"This kind of display is very sensitive to any pressure, and it will result in the brightening the place. It is specific for this model line and it's not the reason to warranty repair. We recommend to lower the brightness level in the darker room. Check of the display frame has been done and no problem has been found."
Later they said they've re... Read more

Answer:X220 IPS display backlight issue (with photos)

Yes, at maximum brightness level the backlight bleeding is very visible but I use it at 5 or 6 level where it has excellent contrast ratio considering how crappy current notebook displays are in general. The uneven backlight is caused by fancy LED backlight which is still not able to deliver similar quality regarding uniformity as good old CCFL backlight (that's why professional LCD monitors still rely on W-CCFL backlight). But I agree that the top-left corner is way too much bad and might indicate that the panel is seated badly in the frame. On the other hand my old IPS panel in R51 also have backlight bleed at maximum brightness level. Major problem is that Lenovo is still not able to fix the stupid bug with brightness level always set to max in BIOS screen that the backlight bleeding is very visible and irritating everytime you boot your machine. IMHO, the X220 IPS panel is still much better than any ugly contrastless TN panel Lenovo puts into ThinkPads (except 15" FHD). I bet that you would hate the X220i TN panel more than this one  There are also two different revisions of the IPS panel, the second one fixes problems with image retention. As for comparison with Z60m, X220 display lid is much more fragile so the panel is not protected well against pressures and flexes. In any case panel flex should affect the backlight bleeding temporarily only. If it persists it is subject to repair (replace, reseat etc.). Unfortunately I don't have any good low-ligh... Read more

Hello, With the X220 Tablet, if I have a secondary display attached and the desktop set to 'extend the desktop', then touches are displayed as being invoked on the secondary display, even though I am clicking on the primary (tablet) display. Does anybody else get this effect?

Answer:X220 Tablet: Issue with touches and secondary display

Yes, received my x220 yesterday and have the exact same problem! This actually means that you cannot use touch when connected to your external monitor, which is NOT good!!! I do hope a technician can come back to us about this. Henrik

We purchased the standard HP Envy desktop with Intel Core i7 processor and Pavilion 23xi monitor from Costco.  The computer works fine but now that I'm using it more I've noticed that the image quality of the monitor is horrible. Photos appear reasonably well but text in all programs is hard to read.  It appears the resolution is very low making the letters appear choppy. Is there a fix?  Possibly a video card with an HDMI output to take advantage of the HDMI input to the monitor?  Or is the monitor just crappy and can't do any better? Thanks for the help, looking forward to getting this resolved.

Answer:Pavilion 23xi display clarity

The monitor is already set to the highest resolution and the color depth is set to 32 bit which is the only option even though the OS is 64 bit, Windows 10

Hello everyone, this is my first message here, and by the way, I'd like to apologize for my poor english ;] Yesterday I have noticed a problem with the display in my X220 (type 4290-W1B). There is a small, white spot (about 1 mm diameter), clearly visible on the screen. It doesn't look like a normal bad pixel, but like a problem with the background light, or something. It is not visible when black color is displayed. The laptop was bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK until yesterday.I have attached some pictures of this dot, but it is difficult to capture it with the camera (it is much more visible in real). I have marked the spot (it is in the middle of the circle). The pics are in high resolution so you can zoom in.  What should I do now? I have heard , that the Lenovo bad pixel policy is 3 bad pixel per display.. Maybe some of you have noticed such problem already? Thanks a lot. Pictures:http://led.pwr.wroc.pl/aikon/pix_1.jpghttp://led.pwr.wroc.pl/aikon/pix_2.jpghttp://led.pwr.wroc.pl/aikon/pix_3.jpghttp://led.pwr.wroc.pl/aikon/pix_4.jpghttp://led.pwr.wroc.pl/aikon/pix_5.jpg

Answer:X220 IPS display problem - weird bright spot on the screen

Believe I have the same thing. Don't know exactly for how long now, but I have been noticing them for a while now. Not visible on just black background, but on pretty much anything else. Most visible on white backgrounds. It appears as if these white spots are behind the pixel layer if that makes any sense. And there is more than one (I count three) of these areas on my screen and they all have a different shape and intesity. Best regards,Gundy

....enough to pull the trigger on getting an x220? I`ve been in the market for quite some time for a new laptop to replace my old 12.1" VIAO and thought I`d finally found one that had most (if not everything) that I was looking for in the X220. Before configuring and ordering, I managed to find a retailer that stocked them, and wanted to make sure the small palm rests wouldn`t be a deal breaker. The palm rests were fine, but I`m still trying to overcome my disappointment with the display (non-premium), which was a real letdown. The main issues I had were: colour accuracycontrastbrightnesssharpnessreal estate orientationI know the IPS won`t do anything for the latter (what is with the 16:9 on a machine you`re supposed to work on - I get 38 rows of excel in my old machine, which drops to 25 on a " state of the art" business model X220 ??3!? That`s just retarded!). Back on track....since I have no hope of actually seeing a live IPS screen before making a very expensive decision, can people please weigh in with their opinion on how much better the IPS is? I mainly use the laptop for productivity software, presentations, architect. dwgs and plans, site plans, PDF creation etc, but also do a lot of photo editing for work and pleasure. Display quality has always been very important to me, and it would be a hard pill to swallow a mediocre display to get the other great features the machine offers. The sample machine I tried was beside a MBP/Air display, and it was... Read more

My laptop screen has developed a vertical grey band about 10cm wide which starts very light but as I leave the laptop switched on gets increasingly dark and when dark I can see effectively a shadow of a previous image on the screen, making it very difficult to read. I'm concerned that it may not simply be a screen replacement issue as there seems some comment that it may be a connector cable issue.  Any ideas?

Hey guys. I've had this problem for quite a while now, about a year. However recently it has made the machine unusable. The screen flickers/jumps/skews/malforms etc whenever I try to use it this past week.  In the past year, I have had a problem with the display but only 1 vertical area of the screen would do this and it would mostly just turn solid black. I would fix this by applying some sort of pressure on that area in the bezel right above the keyboard. This let the laptop work for about a year with that problem and I did not need to spend money getting it fixed.  I'm thinking this is a hardware issue with a wire or something getting damaged that connects the motherboard to the display. I have dropped it a few times over the course of 4 years. However, nothing too serious and it is a thinkpad after all.  Anyone know what needs to be fixed/how much it will cost? //EDIT: Screenshots   YouTube Clip

My Ricoh Media Card reader isn't working! It was fine until I recently installed an mSATA SSD on my X220. Did a clean W7 64 bit install, then reinstalled over that with the factory discs. After that I wiped my HDD. I made sure Lenovo's System Update installed and updated everything. I've tried using other SD cards also, none of them work. The cards are not detected at all. Need help! Thanks! Edit: I also tried manually installing the latest media card drivers from Lenovo's support site Another issue: I am no longer seeing on screen displays when changing volume, muting, unmuting, changing brightness, turning on the ThinkLight. Problem started after I installed the following update through Windows Update: Lenovo - LCD, Other hardware - ThinkPad Display 1366x768:Lenovo LCD, Other hardware software update released in March, 2013I'm not able to find this update in the Windows Update uninstall list.

Question: TFT Screen Clarity

Hi All, I just got a snazzy new system and built it yesterday. (You can see it's spec in my profile).

My problem is that I'm running two machines through a Belkin switch box into an Iiyama ProLite E430S 17" TFT monitor, and with my old machine, the screen is crystal clear, but with my new machine it is fuzzy with shadowing.

I've installed all the latest NVIDIA drivers, the laster Iiyama monitor drivers (although my old machine doesn't need them). Both machines are on the same version of Windows XP Pro.

I'm really at a loss about what to try next. Any suggestions will be more than welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Nefer.

Answer:TFT Screen Clarity

Try plugging the screen directly to the 2nd machine & see if you still have the problem ( that way you can rule out the possibility of a faulty switch connector ).

Hi.

I recently built a new pc and so far I'm very disappointed with the display. Nothing is "sharp", everything is ever so slightly blurred. Joe Schmoe walking by wouldn't notice it but when you're actually working on the thing it's very apparent indeed, so much so that my eyes are being strained.

Briefly:
Aopen EZ18 XCCube - includes nVidia GeForce 4 integrated
AMD Sempron
512 Mb RAM

I had bought an Iiyama E431S TFT monitor and am in the process of returning it because the picture quality was not up to par. I was in contact with the vendor and with Iiyama themselves and neither of them was able to provide a solution. In the meantime I've hooked up an old "14 monitor but the image quality is still terrible. So, I'm wondering if there's anything else going on?

Any and all suggestions would be very welcome. I do a lot of work on my pc and staring at a screen that doesn't give me a very, very clear display just isn't an option in the long term.

Answer:Screen clarity problem

Perhaps the video cable isn't up to par? DVI would provide sharper image than D-SUB. Doesn't your monitor have a sharpness control?

While viewing a thread here, before my very eyes, the forum went from perfect visual clarity to a washed out appearance. The most obvious example is on any given topic page where the listed threads I have viewed are a lighter shade of blue and unread ones are bold blue. Now the bold is 2-3 shades lighter and the lighter blue ones are just easily discernible but washed out looking.

Answer:Just Lost Screen Resolution / Clarity

I don't know. Same deal on my Windows 7 pc. When I first experienced it on the Windows 10 pc, I left Edge and launched Chrome. Same deal, however, I noticed in Chrome that the names of my bookmarks in the Chrome bookmarks bar were washed out, barely visible when normally they are crisp black. I restarted my computer and they showed up black again. All my other forums appeared normal on both PCs and multiple browsers, Edge Chrome on the 10 pc and Firefox only on the 7 pc. Now I don't know if it's always this way and I'm all screwed up or if it really happened. The only mental saving grace is the fact of those Chrome bookmark names. I messed with the brightness controls on my pc and the color/theme/etc settings and that didn't help. On the pages of topics where you can observe how many views there have been, is that normally almost washed out, a very, very light gray color?

I started having issues yesterday, the day after I installed teamviewer a program that is on my iPad also to remotely control the laptop. At first the screen started freezing when I was in the middle of a Java game. So I restarted the laptop only to have it freeze at the main screen (after login).

The screen would freeze the display would change to a very low resolution (I think). So I kept restarting it only to repeat. Until eventually once past the windows logo the screen would turn black and blank. Sometimes the display would turn on black and blank and other times it would do that after the logo.

A few times I managed to get it to go into safe mode and I restored to a few days ago but it made no difference, I also tried many other things like changing some settings but nothing worked.

So after like 2 or 3 hours I Rolled back and disabled "nvidia quadro nvs 135m" (since I read it might be causing the issue and I should uninstall it which I couldn't), once I disabled it I restarted the computer and made it to the main screen without issues, and I could even load my game. I enabled it again And restarted the computer only to have the same issues so I disabled it again after finally getting into safe mode.

I don't know if it works fine now, I left it on at most for 5-10 minutes without any issues and I never actually logged into the game to see if it works.

I figured out that in my display settings instead of showing my main monitor it only sho... Read more

Hello, I have an Alienware 17 that began to have display issues since yesterday. None of what I found on already existing topics or the general internet seems to have worked or actually corresponded to what I have, so here I am asking for help.
Three faint lines have appeared on the upper third of my screen. They don't appear to be dead or stuck pixels, as they still display the correct color but are always lighter than what they should be except on pure black. One of them, the central one, is WAY more visible than the others, but they all sort of fade towards the screen's border, being more visible dead in the center.
I can provide a (albeit low quality) photo if needed.
I've connected another screen to the computer, and can comfirm that they do no appear on the two other displays tested. I've also tried different resolutions, updating all drivers drivers, and disabling my graphic cards, and the lines never change, so I've concluded that this is probably an issue on the screen or the connectors themselves? It seems to be there even before windows starts.

I don't really know what to do from here though. How do I go about fixing it? What could be the cause, even? Can I send the screen to repair, or is it not even at fault? My computer seems to think everything is fine as usual (except for the fact that my battery has been long dead, but since I never use it, I never replaced it), so I'm looking for smarter people to tell me what I need to know from... Go to the Dell Support page and see if there are any updates. Do not install any updates if they don't come from Dell. If you did install other updates from Intel or Nvidia, reinstall the Dell drivers for your exact model.

I seem to have broken my laptop. I was trying to hook it up to a tv with an HDMI cable. Following the advice on a website I went to "Adjust screen resolution" to try and find the tv as another device and enable that. However there was no other device, so I decided to play around a bit to see if I could get something to , this was my mistake. On one of the drop down menus under the resolution menu I managed to select something which created a second device in the box showing how many displays you have. I was pretty sure it wasn't the tv but thought I'd keep playing around and on one of the other drop down menus I selected something like "expand across both displays"...said soemthing like that, and then that's when the laptop went blank, still a backlight coming from it but nothing but black on screen. I restarted the laptop, the screen showed up the windows starting stuff then the desktop flickered on for barely a second then it went back to blank screen. I can only guess I've created an imaginary device with obviously no display and this is what it is showing now when it's blank.

Hi Everybody, I have a Lenovo T440p, win 10, 64 bit. When I was in "Control Panel \ Programs and Features" I accidentally double clicked on the program and it uninstalled itself even without confirming with me... (This really need to be changed... Why no confirmation before uninstallation? = =+ speechless......)  So, now my issue is, I don't even have Lenovo On Screen Display anymore... And when I search for "Lenovo On Screen Display download win 10", I found this link http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds031814. However, it is not letting me download anything...  Do anybody have any advise on what I can do right now? (There's nothing in my system action centor, Idk what I need to update before I can download the OSD driver again...) I am really frustrated here... This wasn't even my original issue... I would really appreciate if anybody can help me with it. Thanks in advance!!!

HI,
I use a docking station at work with my laptop to extend the display to two additional monitors, which works fine normally. However this morning I have switched it on, whilst on the docking station, and all screens are blank.
The screen is working as I can see the cursor, which I can move off of the screen onto the next, but they are all blank. When I take it off of the docking station, the laptop screen stays blank and I can move the cursor off of the screen still, as if there were an extended display, even though nothing is connected.... Ctrl Alt Del does nothing, neither does Fn F8.... HELP!!!

While uninstalling some (what I believed to be) unnecessary programs, I noticed upon a restart that I had lost the NVIDIA audio control center icon from among my startup program icons on the taskbar. Not really knowing what I was doing, I inadvertently and carelessly installed an NVIDIA driver that turned out to be apparently a video driver because my display resolution deteriorated considerably.

In an attempt to correct that error I did a system restore, but that didn't work, so I tried to reset my screen resolution via the control panel/display/settings. I started by selecting the max resolution and planned on working backwards to get the optimum setting, but after I hit the apply button I got a blank screen except for a small window in the center of the screen which had a top line saying, Self Diagnostics. The middle line of text said, "Nonsupport mode, and the last line reads, "Check signal cable".

Here's the problem.......I'm frozen with that screen and can't escape from it. I tried both normal and safe mode restarts, but both resulted with this same screen (after the display showed the Windows logo and loading process indicator that it normally does). I then borrowed another monitor from a neighbor and got essentially the same result except that the message this time said, "Analog (signal) input....."Cannot display this mode."[SIZE].......analog signal?....where did that come from and how do you change it?

My first question... Read more

Answer:Display screen locked out by software issue

Is the text oversized due to vision issues?

In the Safe Mode screen, try both the "Use Last Known Good Configuation" and "Enable VGA Mode". If that fails, boot to some kind of Windows disk (it doesn't have to be XP, and enter Recovery Console so that you can run the following:

"chkdsk c: /r"

which will run an exhaustive check of the hard drive. It might take 20 minutes to 4 hours, depending.

Is the video card onboard, or add-on?
Post specs of the power supply (make, model & rated wattage output).
Can you boot to BIOS and view the monitor normally (white text on blue/black background)? Enter BIOS by tapping either the "del" or "F8" key immediately after power-on. (The key may vary depending on the computer.)

My Y470 has a very dim screen/display that is on its brightest setting, but still looks half as bright as my HP that I am still using until I resolve this issue. It arrived this way out of the box. Updating drivers and changing settings did not help. Whites still look very dingy! The Intel display driver was updated, which caused the brightness level indicator to stick like many others have had problems with. I rolled that driver back, so the brightness adjustment level moves again, but the screen brightness setting is maxed out according to the level indicator. All power options have been changed to 100% brightness under all settings/plans, with "Dim the display" set to "Never". Can anyone help or suggest something else to get the screen brighter?

I'm running Windows 8.1. Today, the scrollbar arrows in Internet Explorer 11 and some of the navigation icons on the Start screen appeared as rectangles instead of arrows or the proper icons. Searching online, I came across this post, which matches shows the same problem and details a fix that involves replacing the Segoe UI font. I've done this, and the icons are now back, with one exception. The small arrow in a circle that appears at the bottom left of the Start screen and allows you to access All Programs is still appearing as a rectangle. It functions fine, but it's really annoying! Can anyone suggest a way to fix this?

Answer:Icons on start screen display issue

I ran System Restore and restored to a time before some updates were installed yesterday, and all is now well. Things were fine this morning after the updates last night, so by trial and error, I've traced the problem to Bitstream Font Navigator. If I run it and use it to add or remove any fonts from my system (which I did this morning), then the icons go messed up again, and I have to use System Restore again. At least I know what caused it, now!

[System specs below]

I recently installed a more recent video driver to my laptop. In the middle of playing Spore the nVidia display driver died, and recovered (the infamous nvlddmkm driver failure)... but multiple times in a row. After a reboot which I thought may sort things out, things got very strange...

- the vista loading screen prior to the login screen is totally grey, with some darker horizontal stripes across it.
- the mouse cursor (both the arrow and the animated blue 'processing' circle) looks like it has horizontal transparent stripes through it.
- most windows have refresh issues. For example, scrolling down a notepad document doesn't refresh the window - I have to do something like minimize then maximize the window for it to refresh.
- anything that uses 3D will lock up the system. It looks as if nvlddmkm fails and recovers.

I tried going into Safe Mode by setting safe boot on msconfig, and that was an incredibly bad idea. After the restart _everything_ was grey, from boot through to reboot nothing could be seen. I later managed to uncheck safe boot in msconfig totally blind, which was a bit of an effort. I have since restored the original factory nVidia video driver which came with the laptop when it was new, but the same issues.

So I was wondering perhaps has the base vga display driver been corrupted? As far as I know vga.sys is used in Safe Mode, and probably what's used prior to the nVidia drivers being loaded - which may explain the grey sc... Read more

Does anyone know the following about the 2015 X1 Carbon 2560 x 1440 screen? Does the touchscreen still have the same hazy film that prior generations had?  We have a couple of the older ones at the office and that hazy film makes it very fatiguing to read text.  Does the non-touch have the film?  Is the non-touch clearer and easier to read text on? Are the screens matte or gloss? I know lenovo doesn't recommend removing the film but it appears many people have removed it.  Is there any detriment to removing the film? Thanks in advance.

Answer:X1 Carbon 2015 (Gen 3) touch vs non-touch screen clarity

I have a 2015 X1 Carbon with the 2560x1440. I don't notice any hazy film over the screen (but I have heard that Lenovo coats it with something). It's a glossy screen but probably a bit less glossy than some others I've used. That said, the screen is fairly dim (I think max 270 nits) and I need to leave the brightness nearly all the way up which eats away at battery life. But at that setting, it's terrific for me.

Hello, I am not 100% sure where to post this. But as my computer is a Windows Vista, I'll try here.

When I attempt to edit videos using Cyberlink Powereditor, the videos appear black with working audio.
Same scenario happens if I compress videos with WMM, and then attempt to watch them. Black screen, clear audio.
I've had this problem for quite a while.
Attempts I've done to fix: Codecs, different media players, and updating graphic driver.

Answer:[SOLVED] Display Issue, Black screen with Audio

Problem solved. If anyone else is experiencing the same problem, my graphic card is "Nvidia geforce 9600 gt"
I simply "rolled" it back to an earlier version instead of "updating" it.
Then it didn't work, so I reinstalled it manually by using nvidia's download page.
Now it works perfectly, and I can edit anything in cyberlink powereditor.

I have an ASUS x750ja laptop running Windows 8.1.

The problem: From startup (including bios logo), the screen briefly displays what it should, then goes black. Bios logo, then black. If I enter the bios, it goes black at the first screen. It'll flash the Windows logo, then go black.

I've hooked it to a secondary monitor via HDMI. It seems like a hardware error, but whenever the monitor gets a signal to refresh, it flickers back on. For example, when I have it hooked to the external display, and configure it to extend the display, the laptop screen turns on for a second.

Furthermore, the brightness keys still function.

The screen is not all black, instead, pixels are washed out, leaving a halo in a few spots on the laptop screen, when the computer was initially started from the box. The first one was shipped and I assumed it may have been handled poorly and now the similiar with the second one. I will follow up with a call to HP, I wanted to know if the community has any screen quality issues?

Hi Hoping someone can help me. I have an intermittent problem with my T420 where by when I boot it in the morning the screen appears about 4 times bigger than normal and with the graphics screwed up. The only way to solve this is to keep re-booting until the display goes normal and allowing it to finish booting. I do not attach an additional screen or projector. I have updated as many drivers from the Lenovo sight as I can. Can anyone offer a solution? Thanks Duncan

Hi all,
I've recently bought a Dell 7559 refurbished, with the Intel core i5 and GTX 960m. Within a day or two of use, the screen began to flicker upon booting up or waking from sleep mode, and it seems that the longer the laptop was in sleep/off mode, the worse the flickering is upon booting up. I've been trying to figure out what's going on, I've updated all drivers and such from the Dell support page, but nothing seems to fix this issue. Does anyone know what's going on? I'm certainly bummed out to have run into this issue within just days of buying the product. I've uploaded a youtube video to try and show what's going on.

Answer:Dell 7559 screen/display flickering issue

Hi DukeBaluk,
I’d suggest that you update BIOS on your computer to check for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS from BIOS section onto the system and install it.
http://dell.to/18r60nI
Also, we will have to perform the ‘LCD BIST’ (Built in Self-test) on the computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

Turn of the computer.
Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.
You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if the issue reoccurs on the screen.

In addition, please connect the system to an external monitor and check if the issue reoccurs.

Hi all,

Upon upgrading to w10 I encountered the black screen issue. When plugging in another screen to the HDMI adapter on my laptop the display appears working perfectly. The laptop screen only shows anything during boot, as soon as the system starts it sits with a black screen.

If i disable the onboard gfx and reboot the screen will display on the laptop, however it is using "microsoft basic display" and not the onboard gt 555m

I have up to date drivers from g force, I have up to date drivers from intel. I am at a loss as to how to solve this.

When another monitor is connected it works absolutely perfectly. The issue is it just wont pick up the laptop screen at all.

Edit - The issue seems to be the GT 555 graphics card. The onboard is the one that's actually detected and working however this is only as an external monitor not with the laptop display. GT 555 is updated via the Nvidia app and says it's W10 ready, yet it's not functioning in any capacity it seems.

So my screen is half displaying, its a compressed version of the full screen.
The right half of the screen is lit, but all black, and right after the halfway point on the left side there is a strip of image then a strip of black before seeing the compressed image.

The output works fine to an external. I know its not the video card. I reinstalled the updated Bios, and i tried using powerstrip.
I'm pretty sure its a software issue as in system devices my display is shown as Digital flat panel with a max res of 1024 x 768 but the native is 1200 x 800 and it used to be called something else like toshiba laptop internal monitor.

No drivers have fixed the issue and i can't find a similar problem anywhere!
Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

It used to do this, and a restart would sometimes fix it, but now its just stuck like this.
If you need pics i can take screen shots later, but i dont have it available right now...

Answer:Satellite A105-4094 display issue - only half screen

I had a similar problem with my previous laptop.

Does it happen in the BIOS and at the Toshiba logo as well? If it does, that would rule out a software/driver problem since Windows wouldn't be running at the time.

If it happens in the BIOS as well:
-Try resetting the BIOS to its defaults

If it happens only in Windows:
-Update the display drivers.
-Disable extended/clone desktop in the Display Settings in Windows.

My laptop: Toshiba Satellite Pro PSPA6A-028017 with Nvidia GeForce Go 7900GS

Ok, here's the story. I turned my laptop on a week ago and the screen was blank. I plugged in an external monitor via AVI and tried Fn+F5 but nothing. Upon restart the external monitor worked. When I tried to toggle displays the external monitor turned off and I was left with a blank screen - I'd obviously switched back to laptop display but, working blindly, I couldn't work out how to get the external monitor to fire up again. Fn+F5 did nothing.

At that point I called Toshiba for warranty support (Onsite, Next Business Day). They had a technician with new monitor/screen onsite the next day (after a few calls from me to follow up). He replaced the screen but had some trouble getting the display up and running. He finally managed to login to Windows Safe Mode and get the screen running but only on 800x600. He updated Bios and drivers. He was then able to up the resolution to 1024x768. Any higher and the screen would go blank again.

At that point we plugged in an external monitor via VGA. It worked but the technician could not get the each display to run on individual resolution. It has him stumped and he acknowledged that things still weren't right. Later, after the technician left, I managed to get both displays working and each set to their own resolution. However I still could not connect the external monitor via DVI (only VGA). I was at least temporarily back to work!

Good day!

After installing the latest update for Windows 10 (Version 1607, OS Build 14393.222), the screen just went black! I noticed that I'm already logining in windows from the light of the fingerprint but I couldn't see anything on screen.

I tired to format everyting in the PC and reinstall Windows back again through entering the Recovery Screen. I was able to get the screen back but this time the brightness was full and I couldn't change the level of it. I did some search about this issue and then I manually update the display adapter (Intel HD Graphics 520) from the device manager. After this update the screen went off again!
I then tried to reinstall windows again and I connect my laptop to HDMI port. I was able to view everyhing in the extended screen but when I project to the PC screen I don't get anything.

I disabled the Intel HD Graphics 520 driver and by doing so I was able to see the screen back in PC. So it seems it's a driver issue. I tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again with the lateset version (Version 21.20.16.4505) but when I enable it the screen goes black again.

Now the display adapter is disabled and I can't change anything in the screen settings or control the brightness. What is the solution?
Also the screen goes black while browsing some sites with malicious content.Yesterday was going through a site
 I encountered black screen.
What is the solution?

I have an x201 that automatically changes its contrast ratio at seemingly random timepoints.  When this occurs, the screen washes out and becomes unreadable for a short period of time (maybe 5 seconds) and then steps back up to the normal contrast setting. Does anyone know of a fix to this behavior?  I've read some other messages about similar behavior, although these individuals appear to have mislabeled the issue as a change in brightness.  This is not the problem on my machine.  The brightness stays constant while the contrast ratio changes (i.e., goes to a very low contrast setting, making the screen almost completely a bland off-white color). Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Using Windows Vista Home Premium
Graphics Card is Standard Intel 945

When booting windows normally I get a solid blue screen (not BSOD) after the login screen. Boots into safemode normally.

Clean for viruses/malware

Tried the following:

1) Plugged in an external monitor (VGA Port) and it brought up a display window on pc showing it was currently in multiple monitor mode (still blue screen in backround). Blue Screen on monitor as well. Switched to Single Display and now just blue screen on laptop display. Connected to TV with S-Video. Blue screen on TV as well.

2) Changed Resolution as well as 16 bit/32 bit color. No Effect.

3) Uninstalled/Reinstalled Graphics Driver. No Effect.

4) Tried creating guest account and logging in normally. Won't get past login screen. Just continuously loading.

Any suggestions?

Hi!I have problems with the display of my x220 as the image keeps freezing. The problem has gotten worse lately as I have to carefully adjust the screen angle to make it work properly. If I move it even slightly, the image will most likely freeze again. Pressing (and holding) left bezel of the screen seems to help to prevent the freeze. During these freezes, only the image is affected(everything keeps running normally, music plays fine etc..). When frozen, the image is most of the time almost black and white and pixelated, sometimes it's completely grey(pic of this below). However, if I connect my laptop to external monitor with vga cable, the image of external monitor is unaffected during these freezes. This would suggest that the problem lies in the screen or the connection cables, right? I opened my computer to check the lcd cables and their connections to system board and they seemed intact ( I'm not an expert though ) My pc is no longer under warranty so what would you suggest? Is buying new panel the best option or should I just try with new lcd cable? The exact model number of my x220 is 4291-JN7 if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance!

Answer:x220 display problem

Hi,sad picture. It seems there might be an issue cable related near (or inside) of the screen hinges. Perhaps, some wires are crossed or closed because of hinges rubbing. Try to pull cable carefully from one side of hinges hole, then from another.

X220 display doesn't have an inverter, as it is a LED backlight LCD, rather than the CCFL backlight LCD. Did you ground yourself when removing the LCD? It could be a motherboard issue or a LCD cable issue.

However, nothing shows up on the screen. I can hear the fan as well. I tried to connect it with a projector with the VGA port, it did not work either. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the i7 X220.  It's been great, but I'm starting to have a few issues.  Just want to get some feedback in case there's something simple I need to do before contacting service and probably sending it in for repair (it was purchased March 2010). 1)  Display is great 98% of the time, but I notice that the colors go off - a bit day glo/neon, if I move the laptop while it's on and in use.  This used to be just if I walked across the room, now it happens sometimes even if I just move it from my lap. The same thing occurs sometimes after I've been using it for a while.  Wondering if it's heat related or if I have a loose connection somewhere.  Note that it generally goes right back to good if I refresh the display. 2) A more serious issue - I've had charging problems with this laptop off and on for the last few months.  I purchased a spare power supply and battery, and I noticed that it seemed to charge fine with the newer power supply, but was random with the old one.  Batteries didn't seem to make a difference.  Today, once again I can't get it to charge at all - with either power supply or battery.   You're thinking, "Well just send it in for service."  That's probably what I'll have to do, but these tend to be random issues, and I've not had good luck with repairs in the past when that was the case.  So, just trying to get some background and see if these are known issues. Thanks.

Answer:Display & Charging Problem - X220

hey shazza, for #1 , i'm guessing a loose cable is causing this since it happens when you move the unit. If you want, use this >> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM006464open your unit and ensure all cables is connected correctly.another thing you can try is to uninstall the current graphic driver for your unit , let windows install its generic drivers and see if it happens again.now for #2 , that is something I will have to say send it to service. I have not seen that happen before.

I have x220 table. Is this laptop available to use triple monitor with only with DisplayPort Monitor Cables?Or I need to buy extra muti display adapter?Thank you in advance.

Answer:triple display with x220 tablet

The graphics chipset in the x220 only supports two active displays, including the one in the laptop itself.  You would need a USB video adapter or similar external solution to run three displays.

I bought a DisplayPort to HDMI cable to connect my X220 to my TV. It transfers image and audio, but the image on the TV is cut off at all 4 edges. I have tried cycling through over 10 different resolutions, but the problem doesn't go away. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem? I have experienced this on 2 different TVs so far, so I think the problem would either lie with the cable or the X220s display drivers. I cannot check for sure which it is as the X220 is the only device I have that has a DisplayPort.

Answer:X220 External display problem

Look in your TV's options for something called "overscan", "pixel ratio", "1:1"...

BTW, can you share what cable you bought that transfers audio? I've tried two displayport to hdmi converters already and I cant get one to pass audio.

Hi all, Is it possible to configure the X220 to NOT change bringness when I plug/unplug power? It's not good enough to set both battery and power to the same brightness, because I want to be able to change brightess. For example, if I'm working in a dark room, on battery, and I've set the brightness down low -- I don't want the brightness shooting back up if I plug it in. Is this not possible? Thanks!

Answer:Can X220 *NOT* change my display brightness?

I can't confirm but you should be able to set that in the power manager or make a profile for it.  Also to my knowledge, when you click the different profiles in the battery under windows, when it switches it should go to the last brightness level that you left it at so if you left it on 3 and then plug it back in, it should be 3 but play around with it. Power manager should let you set the brightness though. ~Novak

I have a very strange problem with my X220:  Today I was working with it, then send it to sleep mode. Everything fine. After travelling I pulled it out of my bag and it was already stunned because it was warm. It turned out that it was powered on, but it seems as if only the CPU was on, not the fan or the HD.Now, when I switch it on the screen doesn't work anymore. Seems that the backlight is off. After switching it off and on a couple of times it worked again for a very brief period but now again is completely blank. Everything else seems to work fine.  So this is very strange. Please help me with this issue!

Answer:X220 display stopped working

The power management seems to have severe problems also of a different nature.

I sent my X220 i5 to sleep and then transported it for a while. When I pulled it out of my bag it was powered on and warm, but neither the fan nor the HD running. But the display stopped working totally. External display works, though.

This poses several questions:
How can the laptop turn on "partially"?
Why does it turn on automatically during transport (all radios powered off)?
What happened to the display?

Hello, I know this issue has been discussed in the past - but after a two days search none of the solutions I found worked for me. I have a problem with audio from the display port - video is fine, but no audio. I know that there is no hardware issue, and my cable is OK (I did a test with Linux live CD and it worked OK). In my device manager I can see "Intel Display audio". However, in "Playback devices" there is only "speakers - Conexant Smart Audio HD" - no HDMI audio. When I open "Smart Audio HD" I see no HDMI sound option and no "TV sound" option.I've tried Fn+F6 - this gives me the "Communications Utility" with some options under "VoIP call settings" but again no option of HDMI, and other option simply open the Windows playback devices or the Smart Audio HD.. I have tried different Intel graphics drivers. I tried uninstalling the driver and let Windows install the correct version - nothing helped. Any help will be appriciated! Thanks!

Answer:x220 display port sound

Update: I tried to uninstall and delete the drivers for the "Intel Display audio", and then Windows installed "High Definition Audio Device". Now I can see in the "Playback devices" 3 "Digital Audio (HDMI) but they are all "unplugged". Can anyone can help here? Thanks!

I received a new X220, and I initially had the same problem getting audio through a displayport to hdmi cable that other users have experienced.  For me it turned out to be the cable.  I got a new adapter and the audio worked great.  As soon as I hooked up the cable, the audio would automatically switch to my TV.  Perfect. Now, however, I'm having a different problem.  The audio will stop working for apparantely no reason.  I was just playing a movie on VLC with no problems.  Went and did something else, came back and woke the computer from sleep and now the audio no longer works.  When I open my audio playback devices I can see the levels moving, but I hear nothing.  I reboot, unplug the cable from the laptop and the TV.  Nothing works. I think it may be a problem with the Intel Display Audio drivers because I've had this problem on another laptop before (with a standard hdmi out).  On the old laptop I would uninstall drivers, reinstall, rollback, etc.  Nothing would work.  It would just all of a sudden decide to start working again. I've been told elsewhere to uncheck any enhancements in the audio properties and to make sure that the selection under the advanced tab, "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is unchecked as well.  I still have the problem however. This is incredibly frustrating.  Does anybody know how to fix this issue?  Thank you.

I just bought my laptop in March 2012 and I've run into this problem 3 times since then.   All of a sudden, the display will become very bright, oversaturated, for every application that I have open.   The pixel sizes remain the same, and most of the type is legible, but because of the oversaturation, the font is a bit more difficult to read/discern.   I've restarted and that usually takes care of it, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problem?  I worry given my laptop is new and I had terrible problems with my previous Lenovo ideapad (large vertical white stripes took over my display, obstructing view of whatever application was open). I swore to never by an Ideapad again.   thanks!

hi lenovolinda,

Thank you for your post welcome to the community,

Based from my understanding of your post it appears that it could be a configuration issue. You may want to check your Bios version to see if it has been updated the to lates, which is v1.29. Should it is lower than the bios version i have shown over here, i would recommend you update your Bios first to ensure that your system is ruuning all latest drivers and bios.

You can update the bios and all other drivers by hitting the thinkvantage blue key found on the top your keyboard or alternatively you down the drivers from.

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere in the forums and I missed it. I have a new X220 with the IPS display and after a couple weeks of use, the laptop display no longer works. The laptop seems fine otherwise, and it works with an external display port monitor.  When I have the monitor in mirrored mode, I can see a faint- not-readable screen on the laptop.  I'm certain that it is not just the brightness setting, as I can turn that all the way up with no effect (and view the brightness dialog working both on the external and barely perceivable on the laptop monitor). It seems like my display was just a lemon (maybe the backlight for the screen was poorly soldered/connected?).  Has anyone else experienced this? Regardless, my tolerance is pretty low for hardware failure so I'd like to unload this laptop with maximum velocity. How do I go about doing that?

Hi all, today I was working for approx. 15 minutes outside in the sun when I noticed that the lower display frame of my X220 starts bending away from the display (sun was shining at the back of the unit and not directly on the inside frame). After doing some research I found a description of the problem here including a picture. My frame does exactly look the same. While writing this post back inside it starts to go away and kinda bend back. Not sure if it will go away completely. I wonder if this happens to all X220's or if I should get mine replaced. Also I wonder if that could harm the device in any way. Thanks,Chris :-)

Answer:X220 display frame bends in sun light

Hm, not sure if moving the post really makes sense. It's related to a gap between frame and the display - that' true. However it's due to sun light impact and not a general issue like the others.

I have an X220 with an i72620 running win 7 64.  curious behavior today.  when I connect the laptop to a wqhd monitor (2560x1440) via a display port to display port cable and turn off the laptop screen so as to run only the monitor things work great.  No issues.  However I tried a connection via dispaly port to hdmi and while i could get the monitor to work running the native resolution of the X220 screen (around 1366x768), every time I tried to select external monitor only, the machine would blue screen and crash.  Any ideas why???????? I did one experiment hooking the display port to hdmi to another monitor--this one 1920x1080--and that did work. I guess I can't figure out why the display port to display port works fine with the wqhd monitor but not when a display port to hdmi is used.

Hello,

I have and actively use my X220 for roughly two and a half years now and am so far happy with it.
However, lately I noticed coloured pixels, or rather what looks like sub-pixels shining through the "display" when I set e.g. a black background or at boot time.

It goes from the left to the right but only at the top of the screen. I have the x220 with the IPS display.
I attached two pictures of the most intense spot, roughly a tad to the right from the top-center of the display). Unfortunately, my camera does not quiet focus that close, I#ll try to get a better shot of it soon.
As you can see, those aren't dead pixels per-se, as their size waries. Looks like the screen is "used" and the "paint" starts to come of. Not sure how I could describe that, really.

Link to image 2

During my time of ownership I have always been careful of my machine, so there was no rough handling. I use it everyday as my primary machine though, but most of the time with 1 or 2 external monitors.

Does anyboy else have this problem? Is it solvable? Could I stop the process somehow?

Thanks a lot!

Answer:X220: Coloured pixels starting to shine through IPS display

It seems as you have the first revision of the IPS panel that is known to have issues, especially the excessive image retention (persistence) issue. Assuming you have 3 years warranty I would ask for replacement. On the other hand I have one of last X220 (having the second revision of the display) boxes and noticed the issue as well. Fortunately it is one red subpixel only yet. Is there any improvement when you keep the display turned off for at least 48 hours ?

I just got a new X220T earlier today and right out of the gate I've had this problem. Basically, whenever certain things happen (UAC popping up [before I disabled it], shutting the laptop lid, restarting, logging in/out and some more) the display will rotation clockwise either 90 or 180 degrees. These seem to be times when the whole screen refreshes, so maybe it's the autorotate for tablet software gone haywire? Has anyone else had this issue or are there any suggestions to fix it? Thanks!

Answer:X220 Tablet Display Autorotates 90-180 Degrees Whenever it Feels Like It

I know the Intel graphics software has hotkeys registered that rotate the screen. Perhaps that's interfering? Also, there's this Screen Reader ap I think that's set to auto-rotate the screen when put in tablet mode. I disabled that feature on my device a couple of times, I guess after updates this resets itself again.

I ordered an X220 with IPS long time ago. I remember seeing a while ago the name as "Wide viewing angle & High density FlexView Display 1366 x 768" but now that I see this "Generic PnP Monitor" I am not sure if it was my imagination or infact the name of the monitor changed in the device manager. I checked the Hardware Ids and it is MONITOR\LEN40E2, and googled a bit about that and looks like it's an IPS panel anyway. So why the change of name? or is this really a cheap TN panel? Lenovo sent me a X220 with wrong display configuration? I am confused

Answer:X220 shows display name as "Generic PnP Monitor", it's supposed to be IPS.

you have an IPS display.   most likely your monitor INF file was overwritten, perhaps by windows update or a manual change.

you can reinstall it using the file here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-62923

Before I pull the triger on an X220, I'm looking for advice from current users.  Trackpad. Does the trackpad support gestures (tap to click; two finger click) and two-finger scrolling. Some users are complaining about two-finger scrolling: Does it work nice and smooth?  Display. What's the $50 add for the Premium HD display?  SSD. Is the factory SSD fast (like a high-quality Intel), or slow like some lesser expensive ones? Or, does the speed difference matter in actual use? Other, If anyone has other advice, I'd be very appreciative. A friend suggested that I look at the new Lenovo Ultrabook U300s; is this worth a look? I'm grateful for the comments of anyone with actual experience!!  Thanks!-steve.

T400, X220

Answer:X220 (sales Q): trackpad, display, general advice

The trackpad does support everything you've named. But I find two fingers gestures to work erratically most of the times. If your fingers are not perfectly spaced, it does not detect it. Zooming works better when I use a finger of each hand. It's not a bad touchpad, but it's nowhere near Apple's touchpad as far as gestures are concerned. The 50$ upgrade is to have an IPS panel. The IPS panel is much easier to read, has vivid colors and excellent viewing angles but suffers from poor refresh rates that might or might not bother you, depending on what's your usage. On these forums it's regarded as a must-have upgrade. The SSD shipped with the x220 are all Intel as far as I know. They are the cheap intel ones however. Unless you want the SSD to be covered by onsite warranty, there is no reason to buy the SSD from Lenovo. It will be less expensive elsewhere, and you'll know for sure what you are getting.

I know there's been a lot of threads about this matter before. But I really need help. I'm about to replace my TF-display on my x220 with the LP125WH2-SLB1 IPS panel. The question I have is if anybody knows where I could get one at a decent price (50-100$) that also ships to sweden. I'm going to change the screen myself (and have done so on several other thinkpads before).
I hope someone knows were I could get one that is fure sure the "real deal". And that's preferably the "second gen" screen with the fixed bleeding and ghosting.

Thanks in advance fellow thinkpad-lovers!

And it's possibly that new laptops have another LCD vendor p/n.

X220, i7, 8GB RAM, 90W non-slim PSU.  Attempting to use an MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti (1GB graphics card) in a Villagetronic ViDock 4 Plus (ExpressCard to PCIe breakout box).  When using X220 BIOS 1.15, 1.16, or 1.17, the laptop will not display the POST.  Using BIOS 1.11 the laptop boots normally and the ViDock works as expected. When hot plugging the ViDock in Windows 7 x64 with BIOS 1.15, 1.16, or 1.17, Windows reports that GeForce graphic card cannot start because "the device cannot find enough free resources that it can use."  Hot plugging it with BIOS 1.11, the ViDock and GeForce work as expected. When testing BIOS 1.17, I attempted to free up enough address space for the GeForce card by disabling superflous I/O devices in the BIOS (NIC, webcam, fingerprint reader, etc.)--no effect.  I tried removing 4GB of RAM from the system--no effect.  I tried switching to ExpressCard 1.0 signaling in the BIOS--no effect. My hunch is that BIOS > 1.11 are failing to dynamically reallocate PCI resources to map the GeForce's 1GB of RAM.  When the GeForce is attached at power on, the X220 cannot gracefully fail to map the graphics card's RAM, and instead hangs at a black screen prior to the POST.

Not at all sure this is a Lenovo X220 issue (win 7- 64bit), but I'm having the following problem with my 1tb WD My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 external drive: It works fine when plugged into the USB 3.0 port.  However, if I safely eject it, and use it in a USB 2.0 port, it will not be recognized if I go back to the USB 3.0 port.  I can usely get it working again in USB 3.0 mode if I reboot. (I have two of these external drives, and the behavior is identical for both of them). I've tried lots of different things, but still can't solve this issue.  Are there any newer USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 7, or for the X220, that I should be installing?  The only one I see for USB 3.0 on the Lenovo site is for the Nec controller. Again - not saying this is a Lenovo issue, but I don't have another computer with USB 3.0, so I was hoping people might be able to tell me about their experience with USB 3.0 and the X220.  Thank you.

Answer:X220 - USB 3.0 issue

I updated the USB 3 drivers from Lenovo - even tried a later version from Renesas, but no resolution of the issue. Would be interested if anyone else out there is running USB 3 external drives in their X220 - if so, have you ever used the same drive in a USB 2 port? Thanks.

This just started this morning.  I noticed that if I left a browser window open for a while (particularly with a white background with black text), when I minimize the window, I can see a faint image of it left behind that fairly quickly (at least for now) fades away on it's own.

I turned off the machine, unplugged all the batteries and the power.  Checked and cleaned all the connections and vents.  Then powered it back up on just main battery (has nearly a full charge) played with brightness just a bit.  At first it wasn't repeating the problem but quickly it's showing up again and I am extremely concerned.

I am still under warranty.  Please advise.  Thank you in advance - best regards.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet (screen just startedshowing signs of screen memory burn in...)

Updated Info:  Problem only happens on the edges of the screen, a little less than an inch in from any edge, top/bottom/left/right and the problem may appear, but anything in the middle and it seems fine.

Doesn't happen if my background is set to solid black.  It's slightly noticeable with a mid-grey tone and it's worse still with a mid to dark grey tone that is tinted with a purple-ish hue.

Could some other x220 owners set their bg color to a dark grey purple color, and try to see if it's just a limitation.  I'm trying to determine if my hardware is failing, or if I just stumbled upon something that for most cases and purposes isn't going to be much of a bother.

Other than recently calibrating my touch and pen input, I haven't made any changes to the system.  Today I installed a new intel graphics driver update from Win update but it didn't change anything.

Thank you all very much.

I have a client that says the little circles that come up every time he touches the screen is giving him a headache.  Does anyone know how to shutoff the response of the pen each time it touches the screen,  but still have the pen work? Thanks.

Answer:X220 Pen touch on screen: How to disable the circles that show when the pen has touched the screen

You need to disable the cricles that appaers after touching the screen, there is no such option, I would suggest you to please perform the workarounds.

1.To remove fingerprints, etc., from the touch panel display, use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth or a piece of absorbent cotton. Do not apply solvents to the cloth.2. Gently wipe foreign particles and dust from the touch panel with one side of the cloth.3. Wipe smudges or fingerprints with the other side of the cloth, or with a clean cloth.4. After using the cloth, wash it with a neutral detergent.

After this, please check if the issue resolved.

The x220 sadly didn't have an HDMI port, but to overcome this you can get a cable or adaptor for display port to HDMI but then I've seen quite a few people having issues getting sound from the display port to HDMI. Here is the answer. some of the adaptors and cables you get hold of might not transmit audio in the first place, so check the specification for it. then on your computer you need to try these things enable something in the control panel, sound settings, playback tab.  in white space right click and select show disabled and disconnected devices. you might already see the HDMI and you can set that as default, but if it is not yet showing at least you have enabled it here when you do get it to appear. next go to the device manager (also an icon in the control panel)you will see a folder called sound etc, so expand itIn mine it had the following: Bluetooth Hands free AudioConexant 20672 Smart Audio HDIntel(R) Display Audio do not try to update the drivers here - download and over-install the old ones(or remove old and be ready to install new - DO NOT delete the drivers and forget what they are called) useful link to the Lenovo drivers - I have it located in UK, change if you want at the tophttp://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/downloads/default.page?selector=expand As a matter of course I did a search online for Conexant 20672 windows 7 driver and Lenovo links were showing immediately, perhaps they have that chip exclusi... This tends to happen relatively randomly, however I have noticed it more frequently under these specific circumstances:Plugging in the computerUnplugging the computerWhen there is a shift in the speed of the fanThis is not to say that the computer always freezes under these conditions, but this is when I tend to notice it most. To describe the issue further, when I mean that the computer freezes, the screen locks up and I cannot move the mouse with either thre trackpoint or pad. I cannot use the keyboard either, with neither esc, cntrl-alt-del or any other combination of buttons functioning to make the computer come back to normal. The only way I can "resolve" the issue is by doing a forced restart my holding down the power button. After it restarts, it is fine, at least until another freeze. Another issue that I've had that may be related is that for a while when I closed the lid of the computer to put it to sleep, the computer would shut down. I've checked all of my settings regarding power management and what the computer should do when the lid is closed, and it was always set to put the computer to sleep when the lid was closed, so that is not the issue. As a temporary solution I've now changed that setting to have the computer go into hibernation when the lid is closed, which does not cause shut downs, but it is obviously less desireable than just having the computer go to sleep. I called Lenov... Answer:X220 freezing issue

hey mctagga9,just curious to know, have you done a full system update of your x220 ?if you have not, kindly do so. If you have updated your unit, could you access msconfig and use diagnostic startup.this mode will make windows load only windows driver. by doing so, you can check if the problem stems from a non-windows driver or something else.

My hotkey for wireless seems to leave out blue tooth altogether and only gives me an option for 802.11 wireless radio. I have the small blue tooth LED light, but not once have seen it work, or seen bluetooth options on my computer. Any input would be helpful!

Answer:Another Bluetooth x220 issue?

Hi,

Could you please check whether Bluetooth is enabled in BIOS?

Tap F1 while starting the system to get into BIOS. Under security tab, select I/O port access. Enable Bluetooth and check if Bluetooth is showing up in device manager. Also, check if you are able to find Bluetooth radios in device manager.

Post back if issue persists!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Answer:X220 boot from USB issue

Current I've several x220 laptops in my company and a new Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 64G (SDCZ80-064G)usb flash drive. When I wish to reinstall windows (or boot) from this USB flash drive, I found that all laptops are failed to detect the drive in BIOS. I check the USB boot option was enabled and it didn't include inside the list pressing F12. I've tested the flash drive can boot from other desktop or laptops but only failed in this combination. I've also tried to update the BIOS to latest version but still in vain.  Is there any method that I can solve it? Besides, why I can't download the drivers according to the laptop P/N? My laptops' P/N are 4268-PE9. Thanks a lot

Hello, I have a 802.11n issue that drives me crazy..My X220 with 6205n Wifi adapter cannot connect to the router in N mode. The router is a huawei HG655b, using WPA2-PSK/AES. All my other computers at home can connect in N mode, but the X200.It only connects in b and g modes, as soon as I swith the X220 adapter's N mode on from device manager, it disconnects. I have updated the Wifi driver to the last version from Lenovo site, I have changed Power options on both battery and Ac to maximum performance for Wifi...what else could it be? An incompatibility with the router?
