X220 wifi very poor performance

Question: X220 wifi very poor performance

My new X220 comes with an Intel Wifi 1000 bgn. The wifi would only work if the computer sits few feet away from the router. It would not be able to connect to the wireless router if I'm sitting one floor above the router, while my other laptops do not have any connectivity trouble. When it connects, the speed could drop to very low even with "excellent" signal quality as reported by Windows. Any hints?

Preferred Solution: X220 wifi very poor performance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: X220 wifi very poor performance

Make sure your router has the latest firmware for it. Seen this a lot with router with original firmware. The router gets updated and most problems disappear.

Hi Chhunhour,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Check running chkdsk from command prompt.
Update Antivirus application and scan the system for virus.
Run disk cleanup to remove unwanted file from the system.
Run hardware scan test from ?Lenovo Solution Center? and check if it is showing any error.

Hope this helps.

Check in Device Manager, under the wifi adapter. In the Advanced tab, there's a Roaming Aggressiveness entry. Change this to lowest. If that doesn't work, try this newer driver (15.0.0.75):http://www.station-drivers.com/telechargement/intel/wireless/intel_wifi_150075-xp32(www.station-driv...

I have just purchased a Yoga 2 11 and find that connectivity is poor (zero to two bars) and unreliable (occasionally reverting to a yellow exclamation point)  in my favorite thinking chair. I get reasonable performance at the same location from other machines including a T420, a Nexus 7, and an IPad. After reviewing some community forum fixes for the presumably Yoga 2 Pro, I have checked to ensure that I have the most recent driver; that I have turned off bluetooth; that I am not using protected sharing; that windows is not managing the wifi Plus I have installed on the order of 33 windows updates (a pretty large number considering this is right out of the box on the first day of availability!). Am I missing anything or is this a problem related to something unfixable like the antenna design? Other potentially connected diagnostic information is that some sites e.g. zillo do not load quickly behave very smoothly, even in locations with more than one "bar" of wifi connectivity. Thank in advance for any input.

Answer:Poor WiFi performance of Yoga 2 11?

I see the same poor wifi connection when comparing to my old laptop and to my Galaxy S4.  I updated the driver but it did not help (think it was the same one).  I have a week left for no hassle returns and if this cannot get resolved I think this unit has to go back.anonymousscreen wrote:I have just purchased a Yoga 2 11 and find that connectivity is poor (zero to two bars) and unreliable (occasionally reverting to a yellow exclamation point)  in my favorite thinking chair. Hi, I bought myself a Yoga 510 ISK14 for christmas and I'm quite happy of it.I've upgraded it to 8Gb of RAM and 500Gb of SSD. But Wifi performance is awful. I can't get it above 6 Mb/s I tried to upgrade drivers, but it seems the problem comes from the chipset.Do anyone else encounters such a behaviour ?How could I get the maximum Wifi performance from my Yoga ? Thanks a lot for your answer

Greetings all.  I noticed a very significant slowdown of Wireless AC performance when I updated to the latest driver.  I was getting about 1-4Mbps down and kilobytes up.  After restarting my wireless and doing code on my access point (Unifi AP-AC-LR) I reverted back down to 19.50.1.5 on the wireless driver.  Lo and behold I managed to get my regular 100Mbps down and 15Mbps up again.  I would like to know what the heck happened with the driver/software team to completely cripple the performance by a driver update?   Can anyone at Lenovo get eyes on this to please correct it in the future since I am not going back to 19.71.1.1 anytime soon

I have a Lenovo X200 with an Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN wireless adapter. I have it hooked up to a Netgear 802.11n access point that operates in the 5Ghz band. The Netgear access point acts as one side of a bridge too, and I can consistently get ~90mbits/sec of bandwidth on the other side of the bridge. And, when I hook up my Macbook Pro it tops out around ~80mbits/sec. But the Lenovo X200 tops out at only 50mbits/sec.Is there anything I can do to improve performance? Or, it this just a matter of the number of functional antennas in the X200? Apparently the 5300AGN card is suppose to support 3 receiving antennas, but the X200 only has 1 or 2 antennas hooked up.Message Edited by reggie14 on 03-30-2009 11:49 AM

performance was somewhat crappy on xp (3mb/3mb in speed testing), but even worse in win7...im using vista drivers (no win7 drivers avail)

im on the opposite side of the house, and the cable modem wont come online all the way across the house/up 2 floors. so im using a usb rosewill wlan-nic, which gets about an 11mbit signal from my linksys 54gl router with dd-wrt.

http://www.rosewill.com/products/1116/productDetail.htm

qos config is standard, nothing too special or out of the ordinary.

my question is whether it is a driver issue, or tcp stack issue.

essentially, my web pages are fairly responsive (dns, http - with the added wireless latency)...but simultaneous connections really kill it.

browsing lots of large res photos (open in multiple windows), for example - will completely kill the connection..and it will want to download/focus on one image at a time...then on to the next, versus pulling down data from all at the same time (albiet, at a slower rate).

youtube is painfully slow (or any other flash/video app)...and download speeds have dropped since going to win7 - which i assume is because of the vista drivers/non-true win7 drivers.

on xp, i was seeing about 3mb/3mb, sometimes a little higher on the upstream.
on win7, im seeing about .5-1mb/1.5mb...why am i getting better upstream performance than downstream ???

is there a tcp stack issue, or am i overloading the usb wlan nic with too many concurrent tcp connections? or is that a limitation ... Read more

Answer:poor wifi (b/g) network performance from usb-wlan nic?

Is the usb port you're connecting to USB 2? I know I've got to knock the speed of my wireless connection back quite a bit to not have problems on my laptop with usb 1.1.

While not ideal, try forcing a slightly lower connection speed than it usually connects at and seeing if it is more reliable.

I have a new Flex 3 15" laptop (maybe a month old) and am experiencing horrible wifi performance out of it. We have other wifi devices in the home connecting to the exact same access points right next to the problem laptop that do not experience any of these problems. This is on a clean install of Windows 10 x64. The network is a robust 2.4ghz and 5ghz network with high bandwidth (~50gbps to the internet). The issues are seen when sitting 10-15 feet in direct line-of-sight to two different access points. After disabling power-saving features for the adapter (max performance all the time) I no longer see much latency to common domains like google.com (test via continuous ping). I'm unable to browse to many websites or they take several minutes and/or repeated attempts to load. Windows utilities also frequently indicate they cannot connect to the internet.hen I use the same browser via a wired connection the page loads immediately. The issue almost seems like a layer 4 or 5 issue given that continuous ping - either to my default gateway or to a domain like google.com - is continuously successful with low latency (~20ms). I've tried drivers both off of Windows update as well as Lenovo's website to no avail. I also have updated BIOS to the latest version available on Lenovo's website as I saw earlier there was an issue between Bluetooth and the internal wifi card. I've disabled Bluetooth as well for good measure. Ideas before I try to wade through the mire Lenovo s... Read more

I've searched the forum with no luck. The wireless performance on my IdeaPad really sucks, I have a Broadcomm 802.11b/g, running Win XP Home, I'm having the same problem in Lenovo Quick Start so I believe it's not driver related. My other wifi devices does not have this problem so it's not channel interference (there is only one WLAN accessible in my house), I've tweaked some advanced settings according to other posts on the net but without any increased speeds. Has someone had  a similar issue?Maybe it's a faulty Broadcomm card?  Anyone know the exact Model name for the Broadcomm wifi-adapter(FRU P/N:43Y6489)? Regards //Anders

I have always been connected to WiFi through two network adapters in the back of my PC. They are quite small, and have two LED lights next to them that have not lit up ever since installation. Recently, however, one light is blinking orange and the other is blinking green. I have a feeling that my recent network troubles have been caused due to an issue regarding the adapters, but I do not know what the issue is. If possible, any suggested upgrades from my current WiFi adapters would help (not in range of router downstairs). Any help is appreciated.

First off, I didn't know whether to post this in gaming or hardware. Sorry.

My question: If there is dust on the videocard and fans or other poor condtions in my computer, can it affect performance in gaming? FPS wise?

Thanks, Andrew.

Answer:Poor computer conditions = poor gaming performance?

I think any build-up of dust can lead to poor performance due to heat. And heat can lead to crashes, BSODs, etc.

I have a Z60M using XP, and have poor performance due to processor operating at near 100%,  I found that the process ScSvc.exe had most of the CPU.  I ended the process, and have an operable machine again.   I downloaded the latest version of ScSvc, but that did not correct the problem. I am tempted to disable all the thinkpad software and go to a pure XP system, but have not done any looking into that. Has anyone experienced these problems, or disabled the thinkpad software?

I wasn't expecting stellar image quality from the integrated webcam camera on the ThinkPad X220, but I was expecting at least decent image quality, on par with other notebook computers, and I find the image quality to be very disappointing, best described as poor. Reviewers have also seen and commented on poor image quality (e.g., Lenovo ThinkPad X220 reviewed ? adored for a bunch of reasons), so I assume this is due to poor hardware and/or software, not just a defect in my particular machine. Has anyone found any way to improve the image quality? Thanks.

Hi. After much saving up and research I bought a top-of-the-range x220 four months ago in the US ($1,200). A couple of days ago a crack (see picture) appeared in the casing on the right side. Now, I can state with absolute confidence that the laptop has never been misused, dropped, bumped, or anything like that. I also have a super-padded crumpler laptop bag for it when I take it anywhere. I called Lenovo support here in the Netherlands and after struggling for a while to get them to respond to my emails, an agent told me over the phone that the crack was not covered by the warranty. I protested but to no avail. Now, call me crazy, but - if Lenovo sells you a top of the range laptop with promises of "military" durability,; you treat it like a baby (seriously, they could just inspect the thing and see there's been no accidental damage); and the casing cracks - then, shouldn't they be apologising as well as repairing it under warranty? Instead you get a blank wall and the off-hand claim that you automagically damaged your laptop and have to shell out to have it repaired... Well, if you're like me, you'd be getting pretty hot under the collar. ps: when you hold the laptop by the palmrest area the crack widens. It seems like that spot above the corner of the hard drive panel is simply too weak by design.

Answer:Crack in X220 casing + poor support

It is so sad to know that your new notebook got issue.I can understand your concern. However, I would like to share with you any physical damage (crack) does not cover into standard warranty policy. You may send the picture to the support center and they can also have a look on this.  After looking to the picture they may decide if the crack developed itself or they can reply you accordingly.

I have had this lapop since October 2011. It was great for a a few months, but Febuary came and I noticed that the right side of the LCD covers is separating and I could see the inside light! Ive taken care of this laptop like it was my baby!!! I waited till it was summer to have it repaired since I needed a laptop for school. Anyway, I sent in my laptop a couple of days ago (for a totally different issue) and I decided to include a note addressing this issue. So I received my laptop today with it still not being repaired.

I have a 3 year depot warranty with the Thinkpad Protection Service. I thought that by having that TPS, they would at least fix the problem... and they didn't. I am so frustrated. My dell laptop that's been here for almost 3 years hasn't had this issue in terms of built and the reason why I bought a Lenovo is because I thought that built wise, they are durable... I am mistaken! What should I do??? Light coming out of my screen is very distracting and annoying and is causing white spots and light bleeding on my screen!!

anybody else having this problem?

Hello Folks, This is my first post on this forum and wanted to share my very recent experience with you and see if anyone has  a suggestion or feedback. I recently purchased a new ThinkPad X220. I got it yesterday (9/1). When I opened the box, I found that the LCD screen is cracked (there is a crack that extends from the top to the bottom of the screen with a circle in the middle as if the liquid crystal is spilled). I contacted customer service right away, and was told that I need to submit pictures of the damage before they can help me. I spoke to a supervisor who promised me a call back at 10 AM today for further assistance. It is 12:10 noon (EST), and I am still waiting for that call. I emailed the sales person, who helped me purchase the machine, to see if she can help me get a refund, or replace the machine, or at lease replace the screen. I even emailed her pictures of the damaged screen, but .... NO RESPONSE! I just spent $1029 for a computer that I can't use, and no one at Lenovo cares to help me. Any idea what should I do next?! Thanks in advance. see this link for the damaged screen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/6106115589/in/photostream/

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm desperate, here. I think I'm infected with Malware and I can't find it or get it out! I have screen shotes of the two "ads" that are showing up, if someone wants to see them. Clearly they are designed to get you to try and click on them. They are both showing up all across the web when I visit other pages, too.

Here is what I've done, scans I've run:
CCleaner
Advance System Care
Spybot Search and Destroy
Super Antispyware
MalwareBytes
AVG Virus Scan
And maybe one or two more (I can't remember)
None of these are picking up anything.

I've done a system restore to the earliest point I could, and that didn't remove it.

I have a couple of programs that I tried to uninstall, but are still showing up in my programs too. I suspect they are malicious. I think I got them when I was streaming videos from a site I thought was safe.

Also, when I log in through my son's desktop and use either Firefox or IE, they don't show up. When I log in through my desktop and use IE they don't show up, but when I use Firefox, they do. I also created another user desktop and they tried through there and they don't show up on that new desktop, either.

I have also noticed that there are two files showing up on C: that seem strange.

Computer>OS (C:)>Program Files -- (which I've always noticed) and

Welcome aboard  If Firefox is the only program affected the fastest way to fix the issue would be to uninstall Firefox completely using this guide: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox and install fresh copy. Also, uninstall Advance System Care.Registry cleaners/optimizers are not recommended for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "ba... Read more

Question: Poor Performance

My stepdaughter has a one-year-old Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista and the thing is painfully slow.
I did a little research before posting this. Her computer sat for several months with a discharged battery. I bought a new charger, got the thing running, loaded the 52 upgrades. I did what I could to reduce the processes in the tray so that the system is not being asked to do any more than reasonable, menial tasks.
Granted, it only has 512 meg RAM, but this is the minimum requirement. It's the "Basic User" version of Vista, the machine was bought a couple of years ago and I was a little surprised it didn't have one gig. But I'm sure that Toshiba didn't intend for the machine to be this slow.
Let's say Internet Explorer version 8 is running, and you click on anything else, it just sits there for several minutes before displaying a hollow screen, which takes more minutes to fill in. It says this is a dual core Pentium running at a little under 2 MHz. I ran the "System Resources", or something, utility that's available from the task monitor (something new, not in XP) which shows the system RAM to be around 80% utilized. It seems like it's thrashing, but why?
I am new with Vista, but comparing this system to my wife's five or six-year-old Compaq, running XP with a similar clock speed, the same amount of RAM, and a single core processor, she can run circles around her daughter. Is this typical? I feel like the answer's going to be a resounding, "put so... Read more

Hello all! I recently purchased a refurbished T61 8889-01U and this is my first post to this forum. A couple of weeks ago I downloaded a trail version of Passmark Performance Test 7.0, ran it on my new-to-me T61 with upgraded solid state hard drive and 5 GHz of ram and got an overall score of 740. Since then I've been tinkering a bit by downloading newer drivers and playing with the BIOS settings and such, and I was surprised to find that after rerunning the Passmark software I am now getting much lower overall score of around 500. Upon further investigation I find that it is the CPU in particular that is performing much more poorly on this performance test now then it had a couple of weeks ago, almost half as poorly on average. My question is, what did I do to cause this degradation in CPU performance and how can I correct it? I'm hoping one of you Lenovo experts can tell me where the magic switch is that I inadvertently toggled.Or if I installed a wrong driver, and ideas as to which driver it might be? Thanks very much.

Answer:Poor CPU Performance on t61

Welcome to the forum!

It's pretty tough to say what exactly went wrong without knowing what aspects exactly you played with.

I'd reset the BIOS to defaults, presuming you're running a factory one, and not the modded version.

T7300 is really not a high-end CPU, never was...that being said, there should be no degradation in performance to the level that you're describing.

Have you done any undervolting or underclocking on any of the components?

Good luck and let us know.

Hello,
I need your help.
Issue description:
Low FPS in games; Witcher 3 went from 50-60fps on high to 10-20fps on ANY setting; same with Rainbow Six Siege and GTA 5.
High GPU Load (90%+) and temperature (53°C) when idle.
Things I tried:
Clean install of nvidia drivers with DDU
Driver rollback from the latest to 358.91
I would get normal performance after restart but the issue would come back within 5-10mins.
I ran the Rkill and it killed 3 processes; this temporarily solved the issue until a restart.
Scanned with Malwarebytes for rootkits, found 1 but it is quarantined and the issue still persisits
What do I do?

Question: poor performance

I have two computers that i just formatted and reinstalled with windows xp pro. The computers run fine until they sit over night. when i go to use the machines in the morning, windows is incredibly slow. It happened after the first night after the install and happens every night since. Its fine all day long until at night. Any ideas why this might happen?

Hi,

I'm using Team Xtreem S3 120 GB SSD with Win7. The intallation was performed on AHCI mode and drivers and BIOS settings seem to be ok. However I get a poor perfomance. With SATA2 connection, I believe I should get seq speeds around 200-250 MB/s. Here is what I get:

Answer:Poor SSD performance

I think I have found the reason. My SSD seems to run as SATA 1 altough my other HDDs are on SATA 2 mode. Any idea how to fix It?

I recently bought a second EVGA 2GB GTX 770 SC and have SLI set up, but the performance increase I got was a lot less than expected. I ran my own little benchmark with the first mission of the BF3 campaign on Ultra settings and my average frames per second only increased about 20 from about 90 to about 110. I decided to run the 3DMark Fire Strike Benchmark to check if I am really getting the performance I should and it turns out I'm not. I compared my results to Legit Review's results and my GPU score of barely over 11000 is over 3000 less than theirs on the normal test. On the extreme test, my result of just over 5200 is significantly less than the site's result of 6700. What is going on here? I'm very frustrated. I already tried reinstalling the latest 337.88 driver and chose to clean install but the benchmarks are still yielding the same results.

Answer:Poor GTX 770 SLI Performance

How much of an overclock are you using, on core and memory? Are you changing the NVIDIA Control panel setting for performance rather than quality?

Hi...

I am very confused at the moment as I when I install new games on my laptop, i experience very VERY poor performance, lots of lag, very jumpy and extremely SLLLOOWW...

Even so, my system requirements exceed the recommended by a mile!

For example, when I play the Sims, i experience alot of lag and very slow loading times...

My Specs are...

2.8Ghz Celeron D Processor
64Mb ATi Radeon 7000
192Mb on-board RAM + 512Mb Kingston 200Pin RAM ( 704 in total )
40Gb hard-drive

I have only used about 10Gb of my hard-drive space, I havent got a compressed hard-drive, my paging file is set 512Mb initial AND maximum, some resource hogging services are disabled (such as the indexing service).

I use Disk-Keeper Lite and Defrag my hard-drive nearly every day and there is NO spyware!

I dont see anything physically (or mentally) wrong with my system and I am still unable to determine why I am experiencing such poor performance!

Any help would be VERY appriciated!! Thank you all!!

Zed x

Answer:GRR! Poor Performance!

Well for one, don't run off thinking that 2.8 Celeron can run games like a breeze. That Celeron is THE least effective CPU chip for gaming, it's like trying to keep up with a damn cheetah. That 7000 is a little old, so put the detail settings on games to medium-low or low. You could also set XP to "best performance" mode.

I have a P4 2.66 (Asus P4S8X-X mobo) with Asus GeForce 5200 graphics and 512Mb RAM. Having recently purchased the game 'Halo', I am finding that my machine can only run it acceptably at 640x480 with all other graphics settings set low. Since my machine is way above minimum spec, this seems a bit worrying. I have also used 3DMark03 to benchmark my machine, getting a score of 977 - much lower than many similarly specced machines listed in the 3DMark database.I have downloaded all of the latest drivers for my hardware but to little effect.Anyone got any other ideas?

Answer:Poor 3D performance

try moving graphics accelleration to full, mine was on medium when i got my computer.

Question: Poor Performance

I recently upgraded to a 3GHz Pentium 4. Going from a 1.5GHz to a 3GHz I was expecting some sort of performance increase but I am honestly not noticing it. I installed (fresh) Windows XP, but it ran slow and often hung so I installed Windows 2000. Windows 2000 is stable but it just is not giving me the performance I expected. The boot-up time takes a while and the general applicationg loading takes longer than even my old 1.5GHz. Mainly, I built this computer for playing games so I ran 3DMark. I got a score of 2995 which I believe is pretty low. I have replaced my video card, hard drive, and my power supply but only the hard drive gave a small increase.

My setup is:
Intel D865GLC Motherboard
Pentium 4 3.0GHz 1MB Cache CPU
Kingston PC3200 512MB Ram
MSI FX5700 256MB Video Card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum Sound Card

At this point I am honestly not sure what else to check or replace. I went for the cheapest motherboard when I purchased all of my stuff so maybe that is the problem but I wanted to see what you guys think. Any help is appreciated,
Thanks!

Answer:Poor Performance

Make sure that you dont have multiple programs running (like an obscene amount) and you don't have a ton of processes going. This will slow it down. Also make sure that you scan for adware and spyware. A good program to use for this would be spybot search and destroy and also adaware. Also make sure that you have all the updates for your windows xp (www.windowsupdate.com).

I have a MSI Z77A GD65 mobo, and in Windows 7 USB 3 is running very well with up to 120kb/sec on my USB 3 hdd.

Same hdd, same USB 3 port, but in windows 8 only 40-65kb/sec. I have tried to install the Intel USB 3 driver from MSI, but I get a warning, that the Win7 x64 driver has some compatibel-problems, and there is no solution yet.

Anybody know of a beta USB 3 driver for Windows 8? Right now I am using this version 6.2.9200.16420.

Allso my USB 3 HUB is only running USB2 speed in Windows 8, so something is not right.

Answer:Poor USB 3 performance

You must have meant mb/sec, not in/sec...as kb/sec would be terrible.

Ok so background on setup first. I have an all-in-one ESXi setup using ZFS for a SAN as a guest machine. I have 2 Server 2012 guest machines on the host.(each with 2 vmnx3 nics with RSS enabled)

I wanted to play with SMB3 and multipath and see how it works. So I created a COMSTAR iSCSI volume to mount on one of the Server 2012 VMs then I shared that mount point within the guest. (Yes I know there is overhead and I could share the drive directly from ZFS but then that does not support SMB3)

To get a baseline performance of the iSCSI volume within that VM guest I ran crystalmark and get ~400MB/s seq. read and ~340MB/s seq. write. About what I would expect.

Where this goes bad is from the other Server 2012 guest I only get ~80MB/s seq read and ~90MB/s seq write.

I have confirmed that RSS is enabled on both machines and that it is using the multiple connections. But heck I am not even seeing performance that I would expect from non-multipath let alone multipath.

NOTE since these tests are done within the VM it eliminates and switch or wiring issues and ESXi with vmxnet3 drivers should get really good network speeds between guests.

Any ideas? Thanks

Hi,

Recently I've been having some problems with my laptop. I've had it for five months now. Basically performance is at quite a poor level, it's very noisy, very hot, and running around 70 processes generally. CPU usage is high and so doing basic things such as browsing the internet is really stressing the laptop out and I'm getting lag. I don't know if this is related to some malware or something else.

I'm on Windows Vista so I have run DSS to get a log. The extra log is attached.

Question: Poor performance

Hello.
I have noticed that recently my computer has slowed down considerably. I first noticed it when it stutters to play the opening .wav sounds on startup, continued by a very slow load time when opening Firefox or even the start menu once windows is booted. On top of that, game performance has also taken a hit (longer load times, slower FPS). I have ran Adware, Spybot, and Spyware blaster. Adware didnt find anyting, Spyware blaster found a few things, but I removed them. Also ran an anti-virus scan and defrag with the Windows defragger, with no results. The Panda spyware/malware detector can not complete either because it freezes while scanning C:/ndtlr or something of the like. Here's my Hijack This log. I cant think of anything that I may have changed or installed that could have induced this.

At first i had extreme problems just trying to get the ram to work, i tested it on my brothers computer and ran memtest, both sticks work fine. I have an msi k8n neo2 platinum, and was told it was extremely picky about ram. Well i finnally managed to get the sticks to work in my system, but Im noticing that my frame rates in games dropped a lot, and i also ran 3dmark 03. To my surprise, my score dropped from 12,000 (with the 512 value kingston) to 7,900 (with the new ram) Its running in dual channel, and i have it running at 2-3-3-6. (2-2-2-5 crashes as soon as i boot into windows, maybe my PSU, its a noname 420watt) But even with the 2-3-3-6 timings of dual channel memory my scores should be going up. my lenovo R61 leptop taking more time in loging in and sutting down.its performance is also very poor.operating system is window vista.wat is the problems which affacts the system performance?

Answer:R61 performance is very poor

Hello, please look into taskmanager, when itīs operating slow.Check which process there takes so much cpu power. If itīs a new system than Vista will need some time to do itīs tasks and it yould take two weeks to get fully operational. Google for Vista tweaks and look for some hints. Also check, if R&R is scheduling backups. In that time the system seems slow, also. Also some antivirus suites, like Norton or others slow the system down.Use Antivir or AVG instead.

Hello,

I'm new to the Win 7 community and i already have a problem. I just installed Win 7 x64 4 days ago because everyone was telling me how well it runs but i had a big surprise.
The instalation was fast , after that i installed the sound driver ( because i needed the control pannel to configure my surround system ) and the video drivers ( for the control center ). After that all the other programs i usually use.
The problem is that everything i do it runs very slow. If for example i install a game and try doing something at the same time...
And also games/programs take very long to launch. This didn't happen in vista.
I really could use some help to identify the problem...

BTW my specs are:
q6600
4gb ddr2 800 cl4
hd4850
seagate 250gb sata2
mobo gigabyte p45-ds3r

I have followed the preparation thread; hopefully things will be faster that way.FYI: I encountered an error using the second program (GMER, was it?). I bought a cpu/mobo combo and it came in yesterday. I installed it all, formatted and reinstalled windows, and installed counterstrike: source to find I get terrible fps (like 4 fps) with recommended settings. So, I tried benchmarking and I got a score of 937 on 3dmark05.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 3500+
Gigabyte K8U-939
1GB PC3200 OCZ Premier Dual Channel (2x512)
ATI Radeon 9800NP (i'm gonna upgrade soon)

I've installed all of the latest drivers for everything, too.

Answer:Poor performance or just me?

you could try uninstalling and reinstalling video driver. also in device manager check to make sure nothing has a yellow !

Question: Poor Performance

Recently purchased a larger capacity computer. I wanted the contents of the new system to be exactly the same as my old one. Much to my disappointment the newer, faster, larger capacity computer performs slower than the old system. This is a comparison of both systems:

OLD--------------------------NEW

Intel Pentium MMX-------Intel Pentium III
200 MHz-------------------800 MHz
3.25 GB hard drive------20 GB hard drive
192 MB RAM--------------512 MB RAM

Both systems are mirror images of each other. Win98SE with IE6.0 and exactly the same programs installed. The biggest differences are with the CPU Load and uncached speed. The uncached speed is around 2 and a half times slower and the CPU Load about 25% slower.

I run all maintenance programs daily (disk cleanup, scan disk, disk defrag, etc). At startup there are only four basic programs running. The background programs are only what is required. No firewalls are installed or virus scans. Spybot, Ad-Aware and a virus scan are run at least twice weekly. The system is clean. I will gladly try any recommended suggestion. Thanks for reading.

Question: Poor performance

Hi,

I am having severe performance issues on a Vista SP2 machine, whereby it can take several minutes to start Internet Explorer and then 5 - 10 minutes to load a web page and sometime the page does not even load.

I have run a Virus Scan from McAfee Internet Security and a Malwarebytes Scan, both come up clean. Running the task manager both CPU and memory usage are relatively flat.

I have attached some basic info about the computer / OS. I am not sure what other info to include or where to start looking for the root cause of the issue and am happy to provide additional info if requested.

Kind regards

Answer:Poor performance

Run chkdsk, on the hard drive.
Open a command prompt, with elevated privileges, then type chkdsk /r

To get to the command prompt, go to Start > Search > type cmd.exe then right click on the cmd.exe, then choose "Run as Administrator" in the command prompt, type chkdsk /r

let it run, going to take some time to complete, then restart the computer.

If no improvement, go here: SeaTools for DOS | Seagate burn seatools to a CD, boot from the CD run the short, and long tests, look for errors.

If all checks out good, next will be to check your RAM, go here Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool and get the .iso file, you will need to use a image burning software like The Official ImgBurn Website or some other image burning software.

You will want to test each stick of RAM individualy, if any errors are found you will need to replace the RAM.

After having rather high hopes for SSD Performance...I'm disappointed.
I'm glad I got a test unit, because if I would've shelled out the cabbage for this, I'd be a little PO'd.

I have an 8300 Quad Core 2.5 Intel with 4GB of RAM running W7 Pro 64 Bit.
Instead of trying to clone the old drive, I did what I thought was right and did a fresh install.

I loaded up MSE, Office 2010 and all Windows Updates.
Did a couple of tweaks (made sure defrag was off, DMA mode on instead of PIO, disabled indexing)

I have all the latest chipset, mobo, video, etc., drivers.

Yes, it boots into Windows to the desktop faster. No doubt.
Yes, it opens up windows faster and programs SOMETIMES as well.

But it multitasks terrible. If I'm download, installing, etc., anything...and try to move program to program, it's slow. To the point I think it's freezing up.

I've read a few of the tweaks here...and I'm missing something I think.

It's an Imation 2.5" M series 64GB drive. I know it's not the Vertex 2...but it has pretty decent specs behind it. Not the best, but it should do everything my SATA platter drive does better...period.

It doesn't.

What should I be looking for? (It shipped with the latest firmware, and trim is turned on...not like that matters since I only installed Win7Pro fresh a few hours ago...)

Question: Poor performance

I have purchased 6 Lenovo laptops (me, wife, grandkids), and two desktops systems (for gaming), over the past two years. I was very happy in the beinning, but have become very troubled with these systems. Three of the laptops, and one of the desktops, are now performing very poorly. These are all faily beefy systems, with i3 or i5 Intel CPU's, and 6GB or 8GB of RAM. I get very frequent "some-application not responding" messages with IE, Firefox, MS Word, Windows Explorer, and others. The system just seems to go off to lala land for 20 to 30 seconds. Sometimes shutdown and reboot takes 20 minutes or more. I have tried restoring back to various check points, and even doing full restores. That ususally does nothing, or at best gives temporary performance improvements. All of these systems are on Windows 8.0 or 8.1. I even tried loading Windows 7 on the bad H430 desktop, and that did not help at all. The other H430 desktop seems OK for now. I do not know why this is happening, but it sure seems more likely that it is some wierd hardware interrupt issue causing deadlocks. I have a couple of old eMachine desktops that have rarely had this type of issue. Overall, I am very frudtrated with the Lenovo platform. I have seen this with 50% of the Lenovo systems I have bought. That is pretty scary. Am I the only person seeing this issue?

Answer:Poor performance

Have you ever done any stability testing?  Many consumers buy computers and assume that they are working 100% correctly right out of the box.  You have to learn how to do some basic trouble shooting. If a computer takes 20 minutes to boot up or shutdown then there is somthing seriously wrong.  What antivirus program are you using?  Some of these programs can slow any computer down to a crawl.  The free version of Avast does an excellent job and is very light on system resources. The 2 most common parts in a computer to fail are memory modules and hard drives.  The first program I would try is Super PI mod.  It's a simple program that calculates millions of digits of the number PI.  http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/366/super-pi-mod-v1-5/ Start with a 1M test and then try the 32M test to calculate 32 million digits of the number PI. If it is able to pass that test then try running Prime95.  This is a much more demanding test that can thoroughly work your processor.  A properly functioning computer should be able to run this test reliably without overheating or slowing down to a crawl.  If it finds an error in its calculations then it will stop. http://www.mersenne.org/download/index.php I like the Blend test so you can test a large percentage of your memory as well as the Small FFTs test.  Enthusiasts will run this program for hours on end or even days to test stability.  Wit... I've recently installed a Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G ADSL Modem WiFi Router. The installation was relatively easy and all works except that the WiFi range is under 5m for line of sight. I've tried various laptops and all produce the same result. Just to check I've added a DLink AP to the router and placed it next to the Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G and get excellent results (Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G is Ch 6, DLink Ch 1 and a 3rd AP some distance away is Ch 11). I've tried changing the Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G to Ch 1 before the I installed the DLink AP but that had no effect either. I tried limiting the laptops to 802.11b but that had no effect. I even tried limiting the Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G to 802.11b as well.WEP is enabled. Running without WEP shows little change.I have the latest firmware installed.Running Net Stumbler shows the Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-G to be about 15db lower in strength than the DLink AP. Any ideas on what else I might try?

Answer:WiFi Router - poor WiFi range

You're obviously competent at this sort of thing, so I'd rule out user error in this case. Unless there is something in the router's positioning or its environment that you have missed, it points to one of two things; either the router is faulty or this is a "characteristic" of this particular router. If either is the case (the former would be more likely perhaps) then you have a solid case for returning it from whence it came!

i recently upgraded my geforce 4 mx 420 video card to a gigabyte radeon 9600 pro. i have a dell dimension 4550 2.4 ghz 512mb ram computer. i tried to run counter-strike:source at the same low settings and low resolution as i ran it on the old video card, but the fps was just as bad, if not worse. also my mobo only supports up to agp 4x and the card goes up to agp 8x. could this be the reason why my new card is performing so bad? also, the overclocking program (v-tuner 2) that came with my 9600 pro has the default CORE CLOCK: 400 mhz MEMORY CLOCK: 406 mhz......BUT the advertised memory clock for the 9600 pro is 600 mhz! is this again b/c my motherboard doesn't support agp 8x?

Answer:poor 9600 pro performance

Problem is your wasting the 8X capabilities of the 9600 card, I have an older 9600LE on a spare box and it will play any game thrown at it, but it is on a MSI 8X capable board.

Far Cry NP at 32 bit 1024 X 768, but let the game decide what the best video defaults are, either way it's best to stick with the best 4X card or it's time to upgrade the board, most of which now are all either 8X AGP or dual PCI capable.

Even the smaller 2 PCI slot Asus boards run 8X AGP, and they are < $100 AUD, the difference with a good board is huge.

Grab a Asus A7N8DX-E Deluxe v-2 (XP-3200 400mhz capable out of the box) before they are gone ( perhaps the best before going to 64 bit gear), or even get the older A7N8DX Deluxe (XP-3000+ max), they will run all games out now with ease used with a 9600 Pro and both have the onboard 6 channel soundstorm sound, which is more than fine for most folks unless your a purist for sound.

NB, a 9800 card will run nearly twice as fast as the best 9600, my game box uses a 9800 Pro and it has NP with any game made, allbeit a 64 bit system / 3200, the 9800 video makes a FX-5700 Nvidia look rather sick.

Drop the colour down to 16 bit @ 85 Hz and run your games at 800 X 600 that may help smooth the game down somewhat until you can upgrade.

I'm getting less than 45 FPS in CS:GO on low settings, which doesn't make sense. I have the latest intel drivers for the integrated chip installed, and nvidia driver 353.62 installed, and the performance is horrible for a 960m and an i7. For some reason when I run Fraps (recording) my fps drop way down, for example in cs:source I will be running at 60fps (locked at that fps b/c of vertical sync) whenever I enable fraps to record my fps drops to 15 and just sticks at 15fps no matter whats going on. I tried lowering my video quality (resolution etc) and still can't get it to run at a decent FPS.

My System:
proc: AMD 4400+ X2
video: Nvidia 8800gtx (97.02 drivers)
memory: Corsair 3200 XMS (2gigs)
hard drive: 2x 36gig raptors in Raid 0
Fraps (latest version)

In my opinion my system should be capable of recording with fraps at a decent fps, any ideas or things for me to try to solve this problem?

update: I after playing around with alot of the in-game setting and fraps settings, I seem to get way better performance with the half size setting, obviously lessening the work load, I am going to continue messing with the settings and see if I can squeeze alittle better performance out of my fraps, from what I am see'ing atm, AF has alittle affect on my performance but AA really slows fraps down.

Thanks for any help.

Hi guys and gals. I'm looking for perhaps a few helpful tips on how to get the most out of wifey's comp.
It's a Compaq Presario running Vista (yeah, yeah, I know)
Here are the basics:
Celeron D 356 processor 3.33 Ghz
2gb ram (came with 512mb)
120gb hard drive

I have not done anything to this since purchasing 2 years ago, with the exception of the ram.
There are minimal programs on it, in fact I have not added anything software wise with the exception of digital camera software and the printer.

Is there anything that I can delete or turn off that might pep it up a little? TIA.

Answer:Help with poor performance. Slow!!

You have lowish to medium decent specs, is it slow on day to day stuff or running something heavy like a video conversion? Maybe turn Aero off?

Oops! I just reread your post. Do you mean it just all of a sudden happen? Meaning the slowdown.

I just bought a new Dell notebook and I tried playing DOD Source on it and my fps was horrible. My setup is:

1)Intel Core Duo 1.83 Ghz processors
2)2 GB ram
3)ATI Radeon x1400 256 MB vid card with hypermemory
4)80 GB hard drive

My friends are telling me that this setup should run HL 2 pretty well along with any mods. Any ideas?

Make sure you have the Latest Drivers for your card from Dell.

Also, make sure the aspect ratio is set to 16:9 for widescreen.

I finally managed to install my new D867PERL mobo and P4 3.0GHz HT cpu and get it to start up normally and reformat hardisk etc. I reinstalled all my drivers correctly.

Problem is that when i run the game i play alot ( Dark Age of Camelot ) this setup performs ALOT worse than my old 1.4ghz amd processor. My old setup had 7xx MB of SDRAM, the only difference with my new setup is that i have 256 DDR SDRAM 400 instead of the old SDRAM because the new mobo doesn't support that kidn of ram.

It seems to have problems loading new zones and graphix/skins/other players etc, everything new. When it has had some time to load it, it runs very smoothly so can't be my video card.

To me it seems obvious there's some BIOS setting or other simple thing i should have set differently that i'm simply not aware of.

Could the difference in RAM be THAT much of a difference so it actually runs worse than a 2 yearold system with half the power? Also since this is a dual channel ram mobo, will getting another 256MB DDR ram chip increase performance x4 isntead of x2? Should i just take back the 256 chip and change it for a 512 right away?

Thanks in advance for any help here. I'm getting a bit frustrated after 6+ hrs of reinstalling formatting etc

Answer:Poor performance with new cpu + mobo

Well thing with games is that each one is different in what it requires to run. Some games require pure CPU such as Counter-strike, others require more so RAM/GPU such as max payne.

The loading issue you described is definately the RAM. 256 is very low for gaming. 512 is even minimal these days for games, but is definately fine for most. I would definately say though that the 256mb is why your system takes forever to load things.

So, I've been having this is issue for a while now and there are many symptoms, but I don't know what it's all pointing at.
First things first, specs. I may not be able to provide the whole thing, but I'll try.
motherboard: ASUS P8P67 rev 3.1
CPU: Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz
GPU: nvidia GTX Titan
hard drives: 2TB SSHD Seagate, OCZ-Vertex3 128GB.
RAM: Kingston, 8GB

I wonder if I missed anything crucial. now, for the problems. I run windows 7 ultimate 64x. on boot it starts using up to 3GB of RAM. I put it to sleep and when I wake it up (not shut down/reboot) it eats not more than 1.5GB (usually around 800mb-1200mb). I tried to find a memory leak but either I did it wrong, or just it wasn't the problem in the first place - I haven't found anything. but, I find it weird that sfc.exe takes the most of the ram in my performance thingy in task manager. afaik, that's main process of immunet antivirus.
also, I get bsod from time to time with 0x0000004F or something error code. I'm not sure if I remembered the code correctly. after that I've got to replug my ssd or the pc doesn't detect it. maybe it's a power problem. here also goes the fan that seems to be scratching something sometimes and a fan that seems to be underpowered and has dangerously low spinning speed, as reported by mother board.
other than that my video games don't run all too well with skyrim and a couple of mods lagging on ultra settings and gta 5 also not ... Read more

Answer:Surprisingly poor PC performance

right,

0x0000004F error is from a device or hardware conflict. check the device manager for driver errors or conflicts.

Keyboard happening on only one key is a hardware issue, not software or it would happen with other keys.

FPS - you are probably over estimating your hardware if you want to run those on max settings and 60fps. (you would be surprised at what you need for max settings gaming).

I've got a network setup here at home. Following is an image depicting my network setup.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/chrisfnet/network-diagram.gif

I'm running Windows XP Professional on my desktop machine. It's connected at 1Gbps. I've got 7' Cat 5e run from it to the switch. I've been testing from a SATA-300 drive to try to eliminate the drive-read limitation as much as possible.. though as low as my performance is.. it wouldn't matter anyway.

I'm running Ubuntu Server on the other machine. It *says* it's a BCM4401 NIC (Broadcom) and by all specs I've seen it supports Gigabit speeds. However, I see no place to negotiate 1000. So... I'm not sure.

At any rate, I'm only getting large file transfer speeds of about 4MBps which bothers me. Even if I were using IDE and 100Mbps.. I should be getting more than 4MBps!

I have jumbo packet transferring on in Windows XP as well.

Any tips/hints for diagnosing and fixing this?

Answer:Poor Network Performance

I've had this problem when backing up my computers over the network. My speed topped out at around a paltry 50 mbits/sec, but after increasing the MTU size on my ethernet cards from 1500 to their maximum I was getting speeds from 500 to 800 mbits/sec, a more realistic speed expected from a gigabit adapter.

The command in any linux distro is:

ifconfig <adapter> mtu <number>

Sorry, I can't remember what it was in Windows.

Hi All

I have just upgraded my PC (forced upgrade thanks to a thunder storm!) and was hoping to see a major improvement in benchmark results, but haven't. My new system comprises of:

AsRock AM2NF3-VSTA nForce3 250 Skt AM2 mobo
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ AM2 CPU (2x1MB L2 Cache)
Arctic Cooling (AC-ALP-64) Alpine 64 CPU Cooler
Crucial 2GB kit DDR2 PC2-5300
GeForce 6600GT AGP graphics Card
Sound Blast Audigy
Windows XP professional x64 edition

This is a bit of a temporary budget system until I can afford to go PCI-E and SLI on a better mobo.

In 3dMark 2005 I am getting scores around the 900 mark, but other people using similar systems are getting around 15000! Don't know what the problem is, everything in BIOS looks correct. Anybody have any ideas??

Thanks in advance

I just discovered that my Samsung SSD (830 series, MZ-7PC064D/EU) shows a very poor write performance (161 MB) though my read performance is pretty fair (448 MB).

I searched the web for a while now and tried every suggestion anyone wrote - nothing worked, my speed stays low (in comparison to values other users of this SSD get: ~500MB read ~300MB write - without RAID!)

Here are my system specifications:
Mainboard: M4A87TD EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
RAM: 8GB 1333 MHz
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, up to date

My SSD is plugged into the first SATA connector. All my drivers, my BIOS and the SSD's firmware are the latest ones, TRIM and AHCI are activated, all the usual SSD tweaks have been made (no defragmentation, no search indexing etc.).
I tried:
using the Microsoft AHCI driver instead of the AMD SATA one
disabling the write cache
installing the latest chipset drivers provided on AMD's website
installing the latest chipset drivers provided on ASUS' website
forcing SATA 6gb/s support in the BIOS
I really don't know what I should try next - any suggestions?

Answer:poor SSD write performance

The write number of 161 is considerably faster than many SSDs.

Are you disappointed only because of the benchmark?

The most important factor is access time and that looks fine.

i have an older linksys WAP54G, which honestly, is fairly reliable. i never have any trouble connecting with my FreeBSD laptop or my mac, or any other computer that visits my house.

but, ive been noticing, that my speed is topping out at 2.5MB a sec (i would guess about 15-20mbit or thereabouts). this is apparently consistant with my g4 ibook and my hp laptop (freebsd 6.2).

wtf do i need a new wap, or is this about the norm?

Answer:poor wireless performance

This is normal. The link speed is not the same as the application data transfer rate. For wireless there is a big difference between the two for various reasons. 22 Mb/s is about the best you can do with standard g, assuming no interference, short distances, etc., and it sounds like you're getting close to that.

You might be able to do better with draft-n, but in all cases, the actual throughput will be a lot less than the stated wireless link speed, and with wireless issues of distance, interference, crowding and obstructions apply.

If you really want speed and reliability, you could try going to wired gigabit.

I've had this laptop for at least two weeks and I hadn't had problems until today. The thing is, I had already gotten used to the fact that, despite being playable by low-end computers, most of my games would be consistently capped at 30fps as long as the laptop wasn't plugged in. And I was okay with that. However, today it started to have grave issues with the performance, being unable to run games with almost no requirements faster than ~40 fps. And it doesn't improve whether the laptop is plugged or not.I've tried messing with both intel's and Nvidia's graphic settings and none of them worked. So, any way to solve this? P.S.: Also, is it even possible to remove the framerate cap when on battery mode? As I've previously stated, most of my games aren't even that demanding, yet they remain locked at 30fps.

Greetings,

I recently had the opportunity to purchase a matching WD Raptor ADFD 74GB hard drive and set them up in a RAID-0 array to to host Windows 7. I downloaded the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and enabled Write-Back Caching, but I don't seem to get the same results some others have posted. Before I setup the Raid-0 array, Windows was installed on a single Seagate Barracuda 500GB and Windows Experience Index gave it a rating of 5.9, but the new Raid-0 array only scores 5.7.

I have attached a copy of the HD Tune Pro benchmark results that shows the Raid-0 array is indeed faster than the single Seagate drive, but not by that much. Here is some basic system info:

- Intel ICH10R Raid Controller on Gigabyte GA-E45-UD3LR Motherboard.
- Raid-0 Stripe set at 32k
- Write-Back Caching Enabled
- Windows 7 64bit

I would sincerely appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Answer:Poor Raid-0 Performance

Performance on average went up 70%...and your access times went down which is expected. What sort of numbers were you hoping to see?

Hi,
I have followed (at least tried to), your preliminary download instructions and tests, that involves downloading HijackThis, Windows Defender, Spybot, KillBox and a few others, but Im not really confident with the outcome/installation.

I will try to attach my test-results however you probably will find them not to your liking, cause I havent done all you asked, since I simply cant figure out how to procede.

A little bit about the issue:
My computer is running terribly slow at the moment. It runs with a 100% CPU usage on small asignments, explorer.exe, Norton Antivirus.
Those two at the same time will often get to crack.

Im curious whether I have some malware installed that causes the problem, or maybe you could take a look on my list of start-up programs. Could I delete some?
And further tell me what to do.. I want to delete every file that is useless. However I need assistence since I have tried many years earlier to start erasing files from WINDOWS. Not a good idea.

Help is needed.
THANKS

Hi.
I'm just getting into pc gaming but since i had my new desktop build i haven't had the best results with gaming.
I get poor performance on pretty much every game i've tried from Mass Effect 2/ crysis 1 and 2 and now Arkham Asylum.
I get a lot of frame rate drops and in some cases like crysis 2 i can't even play on medium settings without massive drops.
I've tried a lot of tweaks, research etc but i'm pretty much going crazy here. Help me out.

first off lets get the basics out of the way.

-on qwest dsl 1.5mbp/s down 1mbps up
-using wireless on the actiontec wrg701 or something
-happens on both wired/wireless
-have all the phone filters installed

ok so a few nights ago, my internet just went crazy, i was playing counterstrike source with a friend, and our pings both jumped to the 1000 range, but then it goes back to the normal like 70 range.. we were both running wireless so i thought that it might be that, but i tryed connected over the ethernet on the modem and it does the same thing. I also see when im downloading, the rate goes all over the place, stays mostly below 50kbps but sometimes it goes up to 100 and then just pauses for a few seconds and then it keeps going at a slower rate.

i dont know whats up, can anyone help me?

very annoying!!

just downloaded a 5mb file in just over 10 minutes. average 12 kb/s

Answer:poor internet performance

I know for a fact that those actiontec modems are bad, i have had 2 at home and i have to restart it at least once a week. At work we a good grade modem and i have never needed to reboot it..

Hi, this is my first post here! I have a problem with OpenGL, read on.

So, I saw that Windows 7 RTM had appeared on MSDN (AA), decided to install the x86-version just for the kicks, as I haven't seen W7 in action before.

It worked, surprisingly well considering this PC is originally from 2004: AMD Athlon XP 2600+, nForce2 board, 1.75 GB and Geforce 7600 GS (AGP). I don't think there is Vista drivers for nForce2, so it was nice to see that network, sound and all worked right after installing. Even Direct3D worked fine, but there was no hardware OpenGL support.

No problem, I thought, and installed the latest W7 drivers from nVidia (190.38 IIRC). D3D ran equally nicely, and I tested one old OpenGL game of mine, no problem.

Then I installed Eclipse, set up my workspace and tried my ongoing LWJGL (OpenGL binding for Java) game project. It was running slowly, barely going 40-50 fps, sometimes more, sometimes less. It shouldn't do that and this hardware, hell it runs solid 60 fps (it's capped there) even on Linux, not to mention Win XP. On Linux it starts to stutter when I do 4x AA, on W7 it stutters the same when I disable AA (I normally have 2x).

So I thought it must be the shiny Aero desktop effects, turned them off: same results. I tried older driver version, no difference.

Now I expect it to run slower than in Win XP, but that much slower? Shouldn't be, the game is not that complicated (there is shaders going on but they make no difference, it's slow even a... Read more

Put only 8 GB memory in different slots because know there is a issue with memory controller on AMD Processor.
Change Sata cables and messed around with bios settings.
Put Raid 0 on Gigabyte Raid ports.
Changed the temp directory for windows 7 and even told windows to use another drive for swap memory.
I tried different drives and they worked fine.
I scan the drives with samsung tools and no reported errors.
The drives are being cooled down with front case fan. Air flow is good. No blue screens of death.

Hello all,Recently I purchased Everquest 2 for my laptop, according to my system specs I should be running the game well, if not above average. Well, after a few weeks of poor performance and ample driver troubleshooting I finally decided to do some research on the net and see if others were having the same problem. Hello all,Windows XPp4 3.21GB of RAM200GB HDD550W PSU6800GT cardBasically, my PC is performing generally very badly. Its ok for a while and then, after playing a game such as counterstrike (and any other game), the performance drops through the floor as if the PC is really about 5 or 6 years old. This can happen after 10 minutes of play or after an hour of play. It is totally random.I have totally reinstalled windows, scanned for viruses and adware. Run counterstrike and another game on the system with no other applications installed at all...but the problem is still there. So I can only assume its some kind of hardware fault, but I am at a total loss as to what.I am beginning to think there is a fault on my motherboard as I have already tried a new graphics card and the PSU is also brand new (this problem existed with the old PSU and AGP card too). The only other thing I can think of is bad memory perhaps?I have dont a PCpitstop test and got poor results for memory, system and video...so something is obviously not right :-(Any help is much appreciated.

I have a generic 450W PSU running a Phenom II x2 (unlocked to x4), 4GB RAM, ATI HD5770, 2xOptical drives, 6 case fans, Creative Sound Blaster, etc.

Whenever I run a "heavy" program/utility I can feel the change in sound from my PC. Sometimes, the PC will not boot after I run those "heavy" programs. I then have to unplug it and plug it back in to "reset" the PSU.

Would using a 450W PSU from a known band = better performance and everything?

Answer:Can a poor PSU cause performance issue?

Probably yes. It sounds like your old power supply is working as hard as it can to barely supply the required minimum. And if it's working so hard that it has to be "reset" (for lack of a better word), then it's probably on the verge of dying (which can damage other components sometimes).

I'm working on a dell studio laptop.
The original symptom was 30 minute+ boot up and it would eventually start Vista (Home Premium 32-bit).
Malwarebytes came up with a few minor tracking cookies, removed them. Anti-virus came up clean.
Reboot still takes over 30 minutes.
Installed SP2 (took over 5 hours). Reboots.
Now stuck in reboot loop.
I ran dell diagnostics and everything passed, and I mean everything. I ran SATA long test, full memory test, everything passed.
Now we move into the mystery.
UBCD4Win hangs with a black screen (Waited over 1 hour)
XP based ERD hangs with a black screen (Waited over 1 hour)
Vista based ERD starts after a decent 20 minute wait. Backed everything up.
Reinstalled Vista from DVD.
Still slow boot. Driver installs taking hours.

Any idea what's going on? Any help greatly appreciated.

I recently had my PC upgraded but it seems to perform worse than before.

Previously my specs were:

Sempron 3100
1 gig RAM
Radeon X1600XT

Now my specs are:

Athlon 3700+
2 gig RAM
Same card as before.

I also got a new motherboard, A8n-sli deluxe.

What I'm wondering is why my PC seems worse now, in gaming especially. I used to be able to play BF2142 at medium and get 30 FPS, now I have to play it at all low settings or it's unplayable. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello there, Since couple weeks ago, My battery performance of the Z61p I own, dramatically degraded. Not that it ever matched the manufacturer's specification of 2.5 hours, but it suddenly dropped from over 1 hour to less than 23 minutes in a good day. Yes, I do set the power scheme to 'balanced' or 'Power saver' and I do close any unnecessary TSR programs, but  frankly it stops being a laptop if it cannot be cable free!. I've tried everything from Battery reset to installation of BIOS. PLEASE HELP! I have Z61p. Vista business installed. The laptop was bought 2 years ago. Any help will be highly appreciated. Dror

Welcome to the forum! It sounds to me like your battery has one or more defective cells. Download NHC and check the wear level of the battery. Chances are that you'll need to replace it. Good luck.

I have a:Dell 82502.4 P4512 ram80 GB HDATI 9700 video cardMy computer has been running much slower than it used to. It takes much longer to startup and shut down. Sometimes it takes a very long time to do simple tasks like open Word or "my computer" it just sits there with an animation of a waving flashlight for up to a minute. I have tried everything I can think of. I have been running and updating Spybot, Adaware and AVG. I have cleaned up temp files and Defragged the HD. I have tried closing everything running in the background and ending unused processes. The most noticeable problems are when I run the games: Battlefield 2 or Battlefield Vietnam. The games used to load at a reasonable rate and the framerate was fine after loading. Now when it’s finished loading a map it sits there frozen for a long time (about as long as it took to load the map) before I can actually join the game. When I do join the game is unplayable for about the first five minutes the framerate is horrible right after loading and slowly gets progressively better. The framerate is fine for a few seconds then it will pause for a second then it will run fine again for a few more seconds. After a while I can play but it occasionally pauses right at the worst times. All my games and programs seem to have the same type of performance problems. It also takes a long time before I can do anything on my computer after I quit a big program. I have been researching forums and found suggestions to u... Read more

Hi all,
I have installed Vista in a 64bits server with 8Gb.
When running an excel 2007 s/s that takes about 5 min in a 2Gb Windows XP Laptop, it takes more than 11 mins.

I'm a bit dissapointed since I was expecting to get a much better execution time in the server, so I'm even wondering about going back and install XP.

Can anybody help me to improve this performance, please?
CPU % usage is around 25% so it seems it could run faster but I don't know how tell teh system to use a higher CPU % usage.

Thanks in advance
Cheers

Answer:excel07 poor performance

Since its a server, the processor's resource's are probably set to manage background tasks instead of programs. My server ( An old HP Notebook ) takes 22 minutes just to open Internet Explorer. But then again I have it running my website and most of the processes are background processes. The CPU is at about 80% all the time from managing my website..

If you want to change the allocation of CPU time ( NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU'RE RUNNING A WEBSITE ) You can do it by going to Start > Right-Click "Computer" > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Performance > Advanced > Processor Scheduling > Either Background or Programs.

Be careful now..
