X120e Trackpoint problem

Question: X120e Trackpoint problem

The trackpoint on my x120e just stopped working, along with the accompanying buttons just below the keyboard. However, the touchpad and its two buttons still work. (This happened while I was using the computer -- no apparent change to system files prompted it.) I tried Fn+F8 to turn the trackpoint back on -- I can select the option but it doesn't take effect. In advanced options, the option to turn the trackpoint on is grayed out. I downloaded and installed the latest UltraNav driver; no improvement. I also looked in BIOS options and didn't see anything related to enabling the trackpoint. Has anyone else had an issue with this, or is it likely an old-fashioned hardware problem? Thanks for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo X120e with Windows 8. I was able to enable the trackpoint and disable the touchpad and lower buttons (which is how I prefer it) when I first got the laptop. However, a few weeks ago, the Trackpoint would intermittently stop working and the touchpad would be enabled again. It was usualy in flashes, so I didn't bother with it. Unfortunately, lately the Trackpoint has stopped working completely. I had to reinstall the driver, since the ultranav tab had disappeared from the mouse settings in the control panel. Now, however, the checkboxes for the Trackpoint in the ultranav tab are gray and I am unable to select any of them. Also, the check box to enable/disable the touchpad is gray, so I am unable to deselect it. Thoughts? This is driving me crazy!!

Answer:X120e Trackpoint Stopped Working

Hello,

I do not have my X120e in front of me right now, but I believe there are settings in the BIOS related to the TrackPoint and TrackPad.  Have you tried enabling them there, then booting into Windows and looking at the settings for the pointing device in the Control Panel?

Hi, my x120e's right TrackPoint button seems to be not working right, as I have to depress very hard in a certain way in order to do any right-clicking. I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem or maybe the little rubbery nib underneath the button itself? -Alan

Answer:x120e TrackPoint Right button issue

hey Anima42,it is hard to ascertain if what you're facing is hardware or something else.could you uninstall the UltraNav and then see if the right-button works ? If it does, reinstall UltraNav and test again.if this does not resolve, i suggest getting in contact with the tech support crew for their opinion via : http://www.lenovo.com/contact/us/en/

The ultradev part of mouse in control panel is grey but the touchpad isn't. I also tried Ubuntu 10.10, still not work for trackpoint, but it works for touchpad. Does anyone have similar issue? Is that a hardware problem?

I can use the mouse weel and everything smooth but when scolling with the TrackPoint it sems to always hang for 1 second half-way,. It may happen when CPU usage is 100%,  Chrome is well known for that. As I said It does not happen when using the ouse wheel so I think something could be done to prioritize the mouse driver. Look like the same problem people are havng with tackpad scrooling, Haven't tested, I'm not using it.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

Hey, Have a brand new x120e and having problems with it seeing a wireless N network on a Dlink 825.  It can see and connect to the G version (at terrible speed, maybe 30mbs).   Ipad and Mac Book Pro both see both networks and can connect to either no problem.  The N network is visible on the router and can be seen by any other computer/ipad/etc. that we have used without any problems. Newest wireless drivers, windows 7 64 fully upgraded. Firmware on the router is the latest as is on the laptop. Latest Access connections (and all lenovo software) It is the 1x1 card not the 2x2 card. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks, Karim

Why don't you consider just sending it back as defective?Thats what I did with mine, which had other problems. To go through service and all the additional damage they cause should be an acceptable solution if the machine is beyond the return window. Within the return window you should expect nothing less than a flawless product.

In the past couple of days my x120e has been experiencing problems charging. The battery is still good, but unless i get the ac adapter plugged in just so to the laptop it will not charge. Since this has started I've had the computer run off just battery, and just ac so I'm unsure what the exact nature of the problem is. I assume its the power plugin slot but I don't know

Answer:x120e Power problem

Hi, quintin522

From the issue you're experiencing, I also think that there is an issue with the connector between the charger and the battery. If you're still in warranty, I would recommend calling Lenovo Support at 1-800-426-7378 and discussing a repair with them.

Best of luck,
Adam

I don't know why, but ever since I activated windows 7 ultimate, there has been weird shadows on the windows interface (taskbar). Here are two pictures: The first one shows my x120e destop with the weird shadows, the second one is from another one of my windows 7 pc's that do not have the shadows problem. As you can see, the taskbar on the first image had these weird shadows, and I want to make these shadows go away. All settings for appearance are the same for these two computers, but the one w/ the shadow problem has windows 7 ultimate, and the one without the problem (second image) has windows 7 home premium.first one (shadows-bad-my current x120e desktop):http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/2154/baddesktop.jpgsecond one (what i want the first one to look like):http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6469/desktopideal.png hope you guys can see the awful taskbar/windows shadows. New x120e user and very pleased with it apart from the mouse/trackpad. Main problem for me is that the left (normal) click of the trackpad/mouse seems to 'stick' if held for more than just a quick click. Example; I click the down scroll bar arrow on the browser for more than a click. The function sticks on and the page scrolls down and down and down until I click it again. Another example - I use left click to highlight a sentance of text. But when I release the mouse/trackpad button at the end of the highlight the effect is though it is still clicked down. The highlighting moves as I move the cursor. So again, I have to make a second click to complete the highlighting procedure. Sorry if this is not clear, it is a little wordy to explain. I get this effect with the trackpad and two different mice. Anyone got any ideas for a fix?All ideas welcomed. Cheers, Nick

Answer:x120e mouse/trackpad problem

Was able to solve the problem by turning off the 'Clicklock' setting in mouse control of Windows.

Hi,I bought my x120e about a month ago, and it's been great since, but recently I've had issues with the battery. When I charge the battery to 100% and then disconnect the AC adapter, the battery is fine for one or two hours, and the charge will decrease at a normal, steady rate (indicated by the percentage). However, when the battery gets to 75-80%, it then suddenly jumps down to 10%, and I get a message that I have to charge the laptop or turn it off. When I plug it in and start charging again, the battery charges at a normal rate from 10 to around 40%, but then the same thing happens and it jumps up to 100%, telling me it's fully charged. Generally, I would be happy with such a quick charge, but in this case the battery isn't really fully charged because it soon suddenly dies after I disconnect it from the adapter. Even if I leave it to continue charging at 100%, the same thing happens. So, I was wondering if I could do something to fix this on my own, or if I should just send it back on the one-year warranty. Please tell me if I was unclear in describing the problem, and thanks for any help/suggestions!

I just reinstalled Windows 7 on my new x120e. I installed tpfancontrol to monitor temperatures and set a custom fan profile. It worked fine for a few days, but as of recently some of the readings have been acting weird. For instance, the "bus" sensor is pegged at 78*C no matter what. Any ideas? I have a feeling the issue could be driver related since I just reinstalled the OS. So far I've only installed the video and WLAN drivers. I can't find a chipset driver.  Thanks, Jeff

Ok I have an issue with the recovery partition.  I can boot up and press F11.  It gets to a point where it asks for the language to use for the keyboard I select english and then it gives me an error.  It says you have to be logged in to use the recovery partition.  All 3 partitions are there but my windows partition is corrupted and non usable.  Which is why I am using the recovery.  now it might just be me but I find the fact that the recovery parition needs a working windows install in order to function to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  The only time some one uses a recovery parition is if windows is messed up.  So in any case I need to know if there is a work around to get the recovery to run with the windows partion not being there.  Both recovery partitions are there and functional.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Question: Trackpoint problem

First of all, sorry if this questions been asked and answered. I've been searching off an on for several weeks for any online help to a trackpoint annoyance I've been having with no luck. I'm on a T61p running XP. (I upgraded the stock Vista, following an online guide). I have the Ultranav utility installed (I can see and change the options for the trackpoint/touchpad in the mouse control panel). Both the trackpoint and touchpad work. However, every once in a while the trackpoint just becomes totally unresponsive and the mouse pointer refuses to respond or move. For like 3-4 seconds. What's odd is that when this happens, the touchpad still works. (I'm trying to move or scroll with the trackpoint / topmost scroll button+trackpoint with now response, but use other finger to test touchpad and that responds.) It's really odd and really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice? Thanks!

I am having a serious problem with my Lenovo X120e laptop. For example:I connect an external monitor using VGA port, and got the BSOD. Before getting the blue screen, I had gotten a warning Notification in Windows 7 that said that windows had recovered from a grafix card error. Another example:The screen flickers, almost like there are horizontal cracks on the screen or every thing looks zagged. Almost like having a big Magnet next to an old CRT monitor, but worse. When I reboot, the computer is back to normal. This problem dose not happen that often, but seems to happen more frequently when connected to an external monitor. What should I do. I am still under warranty.Could this be a hardware or a software issue? Using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BitDriver version: 8.802.4.0 (2/1/2011 AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics) Thank you for your helpat

Answer:X120e Serious grafix problem, VGA flickering, BSOD,

The flickering has been documented by other users, though due its intermittent nature, it has not yet been solved yet: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/x120e-Flickering/td-p/389523 As for the BSOD, I might suggest trying a newer graphics driver. If you want to stick with Lenovo's driver, the latest graphics driver is http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014156 And if you want newer drivers, the ATI ones are available from http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx

Hello, I usually have my laptop connected though the ethernet, so I have the wireless radios turned off. I have my TrackPoint mouse set to the highest sensivity level in both the mouse settings in the control panel and in the ultranav software. When I want to use the wireless network, I flip the switch and the wireless radios come on. Incedentally, when I do that, the mouse becomes less sensitive. So every time I turn on the wireless radio, I have to go to the control panel and change the sensitivity back to high. The ultranav software is not affected. The settings also get reverted to default when I turn on the laptop while the wireless radios are on. Does anyone know how to make the mouse stay at the highest sensivity level regardless of whether the radios are on or off?

Answer:Problem With My TrackPoint W510

hi rgoode, with regards to this, could you uninstall the ultranav software and drivers from your system, then let windows install its generic drivers. once generic drivers has been installed, change the sensitivity settings for the mouse and see if there is a difference when wifi mode is on and off.once done, go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74582.html download the latest ultranav software and driver.do a test again.

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Recently I've been having an issue with both my trackpoint and touchpad. sometimes one works and other times the other works. from time to time they both work. it seems to switch when i pull up a new website or open a program. if one works before i open the program then the other will work after i open it. the buttons are the same way as well.. if one set works then the other doesn't but they don't correspond to which pointing device is working.. its kind of random.

Answer:Trackpoint & Touchpad problem

I have just starting having the same problems as well.  It's driving me nuts.  I thought my laptop was crapping out.  Anyone have any ideas what's going on?  I also had the trackpoint touchpad go south on a HP N6400, though in all cases, the Synaptic driver thinks everything is hunkydorey.  I've updated drivers, tried everything.   Whole reason I have a Lenovo is for the trackpoint and if it's going to stop working, then will start looking at a new laptop.

Hello lenovo community, I bought an x220t and it shipped yesterday. Everything is fine, except  the Trackpoint. It seems like the "B"-button is blocking it, because it moves slowly downwards. If I press the B-button and use the Trackpoint it works well, like on my X121e. The cursor also accelerates if I move the mouse down with the Trackpoint and then press the button. What can I do?

Answer:x220t Trackpoint problem

Have you tried running Lenovo System Update to see if new drivers are available? TrackPoint has self-calibration which ignores any consistent small trackpoint displacement. So even if the B button interferes, I would think at some point the interference would be calibrated out.

Hello folks -- I bought 5 new computers a couple of weeks ago.  4 of them worked fine on my wifi metwork (as do my existing 2 computers, those of guest users, etc.).  Only one had a problem -- the only lenovo, an x120e.  No prob, I'll just order another x120e and exchange it.  Surprise!  the second one can't maintain a connection, either.  They both exibit the same symptoms:   Windows says 'connected to Mynetwork' for a bit less than one second, then says 'connected to unidentified network',  then 'not connected', then 'identifying Mynetwork', then 'connected' again for a second, then repeat.  I'm not sure the various states always occur in the listed order, but the point is that the computers bounce around, looking like they are dropping and regaining the connections over and over.  They can't download a webpage; I tried dozens of times. So, I'm guessing that since this happened in 2 out of two x120e's it must be a known problem?  Thank you so much for any suggestions on how to fix one or both of these cute little laptops..

Answer:Two X120e, neither can maintain connection to wifi, other computers have no problem -- ???

Running a search on this forum, I see a lot of folks have had similar problems, but few solutions. Some additional info: I have not updated anything -- these computers are straight out of the box. I can't connect to the net, so I can't download updates. I suppose i could d/l a new driver to another computer and put it on a flash drive..,. but would it install correctly on the lenovo from there? I have tried setting the computer right next to the router and making sure no other computers were connected at the same time. Didn't help. I haven't looked at or changed any settings, e.g. in control panel or device manager.

My x120e was bought in September 2011.  Just 9-10 months of ownership, the touchpad became erratic.  It was unresponsive and the left click button did not work.  I tried to update the drivers and played around with the settings, but nothing worked.  I had to use a mouse for the laptop to be functional.  Since I am working on the run, being tethered to a mouse was a nuisance.  Once I had a break that allowed me to part with my laptop for awhile, I sent it to a Lenovo service provider in August 2012  for repair under the warranty.  The service provider replaced the touchpad and it worked fine for 3 months until the same problem appeared again just 3 months later in November 2012.  Unfortunately, now the warranty has expired and I still have the same problem with a probelmatic touchpad.  Will Lenovo extend my warranty just to fix this particular problem since it was not fixed completely while the laptop was still under warranty?  Any help is appreciated as this issue is driving me nuts.

Answer:x120e Recurring Touchpad Problem (now warranty expired)

Hey there mohican,

It is really unfortunate that the issue is reoccurring for you only three months outside of warranty, especially after such a recent repair. The best course of action that I recommend for you is to contact Lenovo's Customer Relations, explain what occurred, the repair, and the trouble you have had since. This way you can discuss with them what options you have, and where to go from here. The number for the US is 1-800-426-7378. Good Luck, and hope this assists you.

Hi, I have T61 - T9300. I had XP installed and it worked fine for some months, after that touchpad started to act strange. The right button didn't work, the left button worked as right. I installed and reinstalled the ultranav driver, but no difference. I decided to change the OS - Vista Ultimate - the same problem. I made some tests - If It turn off the Trackpoint, the Touchpad works fine. If I use USB mouse, it always works fine. Can someone help me? I can provide more information, if needed. Thanks!!!

I have a x200 with Win XP Pro. I had an uptodate trackpoint driver (4.72), and everything worked okay - I was able to change its setting in Mouse properties (TrackPoint tab). After the windows update, trackpoint just got mad. There is still a driver 4.72 installed - it can be seen in Mouse properties, but the TrackPoint tab is lost so the trackpoint operates at standard slow speed that windows gives it and there are not advanced settings that TrackPoint tab gives!! I noticed that tp4serv.exe, which as I believe is supposed to start the TrackPoint tab is started when windows boot, but the TrackPoint tab is not. I discovered that in order to start TrackPoint tab I have to manually click on tp4serv.exe. It is so frustrating 'couse I simply have no idea what to do - I tried reinstalling driver (it hangs), tried returning to older version of driver, I installed all updates from system update, installed updates from windows - still the same! I also tried to put tp4serv.exe in startup - no results.... I noticed some posts on the internet from people with the same problem but with no results... Do you have any suggestions what to do? EDIT: For future reference - I managed to fix it: I first  fully updated windows and NET framework 4.0. Than I got rid off the trackpoint driver (had to delete it from startup menu first in order to uninstall it without freezing system) - in result the 4.72 driver was replaced by slow, ordinary windows driver without the TrackPoint tab properti... I have thinkpad x230 which was running the stable and well supported windows 7. I upgraded to windows 10 a couple of days ago and I updated the synaptics driver from 16.2.19.14 to the latest one lenovo released  19.0.12. 61 but the trackpont scrolling is bad and not smooth. In addition, I can't find any option to change the sensitivity of the trackpoint. since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Answer:scrolling problem with touchpad/trackpoint

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

My touchpad and trackpoint stopped working at the same time suddenly a few days ago. I tried re-installing the drivers but nothing happened. I looked up this forum and tried resetting BIOS to defaults. After doing this the trackpoint has started working but the touchpad still does not work. When I open the mouse properties in the control panel I get a message saying "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device driver. If you have installed another PS/2 device please Uninstall the Synaptics driver. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. Do you want to Uninstall the Synaptics driver now?"Is there something I can do to get the touchpad working?

I have an early build T410 (shipped in February with Windows 7 64, nVidia Graphics, i7 processor), and I updated to the newest trackpoint driver on Thursday night (16th) when i also did my Windows update. I found that trackpoint driver to be somewhat quirky (a left-click frequently would manifest itself as a center-click), so reverted back to the older driver. All is well.  After reverting back to the previous driver, I have no problems, but did want to let Lenovo know that they may want to take a second look at that new driver.

I have a user that has a 2nd Generation X1 Carbon (the type with virtual buttons on the Synaptics TrackPoint/TrackPad.   The user is complaining that a context sensitivie menu (of the type that a right click would initiate) intermittently is shown when she left clicks.  She normaly uses the TrackPad but does use the TrackPoint on ocassion.  Here's what I've done so far: 1) I initially thought it was the TrackPad and had Lenovo Support replace it.  The problem was reduced but is still occurs. 2) I've installed current UltraNav drivers and updated all other drivers to current levels.  The WIndows 10 is also updated to current patches.  I would try setting the UltraNave to "Click Anywhere" but that disables the TrackPoint feature that is ocassionally used.  Has anyone seen this happen before and know a fix for this?

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

Hi,I have a problem with my X200 tablet under vista: After a hangup the fingerprint, keyboard and trackpoint does not work. After login with external mouse and keyboard I did not find any mistake. Can anybody help? And another question:I want to change to Win7 because Vista ist bulls.... on this system. Is it possible to get an preload harddisk with Win7 and all Lenovo tools?Or a DVD for installation? Thanx

Answer:X200 tablet vista problem Keyboard, Trackpoint, Fingertip

It's not that great under Windows 7 either.... I've tried 7, vista and XP. So far windows xp is the least of the 3 evils. For windows 7 if you really want it (& if you don't mind that some of the hotkeys don't work under Windows 7 - installing extra drivers won't help this) you need the specifics from lenovo as to which installation cd you need to order from microsoft for normal X200 tablet function (I believe they charged about $40 dollars  Canadian for it)  in addition to a windows 7 OS code/key (around $90 dollars - not sure what that converts to in Switzerland, if you're a student).Hope that helps  Btw, what do you mean by hangup?

I don't have this exact issue but my scrolling is very choppy, especially using the Touchscreen (but the Trackpoint and Trackpad too).  Does the same issue occur for you with the other scrolling methods? For me, it's like the X1 is having a hard time keeping up with the web pages but the lines/elements do load eventually.

Answer:X120e vs. VAIO YB - why can VAIO play AC3, and X120e not

Hello,I have had my X120e for 3 days now, and wife her Sony VAIO YB for about a month.Having intensively tested and setup the two machines, my preferred device is the X120e. Display, Keyboard, the X120e beats the Vaio in my opinion! In one aspect though, the Vaio wins:We have a satellite receiver (Vu+) that receives HDTV from German and British stations. The HD signals I can stream over WiFi and watch with both laptops. However with one limitation for the X120e:The British stations won't come with Audio - only Video I can watch. After some googl'ing I learned that the British HD stations (BBC, ITV) have the Audio encoded as AC3.The setup on the laptops is comparable: Using the pre-installed Windows 7, and built-in Windows Media Player 12.What could be the reason that the X120e fails in this case? Maybe because the X120e comes with 64-bit Win7 Professional, whereas the VAIOPS: I have officially imported both laptops from U.S. to Germany for several reasons, one of them that the X120e is still not available in Germany. Same also the Vaio, not available in pink cover in Germany. Don't understand why marketing departments divide the world.PS2: this was my original post with IE9...that's why content in quick reply

I'm looking into buying an X120e with a Fusion E-240, but I've seen lots of mixed opinions on the processor. I am buying this refurbished and at a lower than usual price or I would consider upgrading to the 350. My biggest question is, can an X-120e with an E-240 support 8GB of ram? I have heard of the 350 models doing so. Also I would love to hear from anyone who has experience with either models. I will be running a fairly lightweight linux install (openbox + gtk2) so I think it should be lightweight enough to get by, but I do occasionally run image editing software and I tend to keep a lot of tabs open in chromium at any given time. Thoughts?

Answer:X120e E-240 with 8GB

Yes, it works with 8GB. It's not a Lenovo supported configuration, but I suppose that's just to drive people to the higher end offerings. The chipset does work with 8GB, I had one myself worked fine, many people have it as well. Both CPU options will support it, however I strongly recommend going with the dual core E-350.

Answer:Is 4GB or 8GB the max RAM in X120e?

Hello,

4GB of RAM is what Lenovo tests and verifies system compatibility with.  While it is possible to install larger amounts of RAM, Lenovo does not support these configurations, so if you experienced a problem, they might not be able to help you troubleshoot it until the system was put back into a supported configuration.

Answer:x120e fn key

Hello Skyline,

As I understand Onscreen display does not come but hot key works fine.

The hotkey function depends on Power Manager software and also the onscreen display

You may go to Power Manager installed folder and double click on Utility.exe file
If this does not resolve the you need to reinstall the Power Manager software.

Download power manager software for Windows 7 from mentioned below web link.

I just ordered a X120e with E-350.  I read the data sheet and it says 4GB max is supported in 2 Dimm slots (2GB each).  However, I have been reading some of the posts here and it seems people are putting in 8GB. I would appreciate if  someone give me some advice on the following.  I am planning to replace the 2GB with 2 sticks of 4GB.1) I have not used Windows 7 (my current computer is still on XP), will Windows 7see all 8GB?2) Will any DDR3-1066 4GB stick work? Can someone recommend 2 sticks of 4GB? Thanks

Answer:X120e - 4GB or 8GB Max ?

welcome to the forum!

the X120e can use 8GB but the officially supported amount is 4GB.   install 8GB at your own risk.

windows XP x86 will only see 3GB total if you have 8GB installed.   you would either need a 64-bit OS to use all 8GB or the 32-bit version of windows server 2003.

most DDR3-1066 and 1333 modules will work in your system but some users have reported having trouble with brands like corsair, transcend, and some of the other lower-end brands.   i would personally recommend anyone using either samsung or micron modules.   crucial is a solid choice.

if you find 1333MHz modules less expensive than the 1066 then you might as well get the 1333.   they will downclock to 1066MHz in your X120e but would be good to have if you ever upgrade to a system with a 1333MHz memory bus.

When I check task manager, cpu is indeed running constantly at 100 % when I do heavy computing. Is this bad for the cpu or what? Thanks.

Answer:x120e running too hot?

Have you tried using another program for checking temperature?  Some programs aren't updated correctly for new hardware architecture (unsure if this is the case with speedfan). Are your vents being blocked by any materials underneath the X120e?  Just quick questions since I don't know the thermal limitation of the e-350.  But if anything, the hardware should have a failstop mechanism where the computer will turn itself off to save the hardware if it gets too hot (or so I hope lol).

Question: x120e Issues

Just some issues with the x120e 1. There is no touchpad driver for the x120e as it produces an error when I try to download it from the site. I have the t500 UltraNav and the multitouch and advanced functions are horrible...does anyone have a solution to this? 2. Also, I dont know if I am psyching myself out, but is the trackpoint button set supposed to have different resistances? The left one is a lot easier to depress than the right one and middle one. I hope to God that this is the case, the left button clicks fine and returns to normal position fine but it is a lot easier to depress and feels looser. Thanks...

Is there such thing out there? The fan noise is simply appaling. And I hate using third party programs to control my fan speed.. They eventually end up heating up the system or taking up resources :/

Answer:x120e - Noiseless Fan?

AFAIK no. In my case, after a bord change for my x120e, the fan is really quiet. And using internet explorer browser or chrome do not overload the fan. Firefox is to heavy. After hours of browsing the web with chrome, the fan is quiet, and most of the time is off and the laptop is not warm at all. All this by default, no extra programs to control the fan. I have disabled in bios all the features that I do not use, such as always on usb, boot from lan etc. Maybe disabling not needed functions in bios can help in having a quieter fan. Regards abvasili

Hello all, I am the proud owner of a new Lenovo X120e. It is my first purchase from Lenovo and so far I am very impressed. There is something that is bother me however. I purchased the unit with 4 GB of RAM and Windows Professional 64-bit. Windows is telling me that only 3.6 out of the 4 GB is usable. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever heard of/had this type of problem before and if there is an easy fix. I have done a couple of Google searches, but can't seem to find anything.

Answer:Only 3.6 out of 4 GB usable RAM on X120e

As with most integrated graphics solutions, the Radeon 6310 graphics uses some amount of system memory, which is why it's not available to Windows. On my x120e, which has 6 gb of RAM installed, only 5.60gb is usable by windows.

Hey all, I've been looking at an ultra portable laptop for college and was looking at the x100e. I've looked at reviews and they all say it has horrible battery life and that it overheats and the processor is a first generation AMD netbook processor. So should I just wait a few more weeks for the x120e to come out? Will it solve all these issues I keep reading about? I really need a portable machine for classes and don't want a HP or Acer. Any advice or suggestions would be great. I can get the x100e for $383 with a student discount and tripple the RAM for $30 on Amazon. Which one should I go for?

Question: Thinkpad x120e

Hey guys. I bought this thinkpad x120e off of a user from head-fi.org and its not even 2 months old. This guy formatted the whole drive and installed windows 7 x64 pro when the key that comes with the unit is for home premium. I understand that in this situation it would not be covered under Lenovo's warranty but a phone rep told me a charge for a recovery DVD is $51.00. I think it is a little rediculous. Does anyone happen to have a copy of the recovery DVD or know a way around this? I can always get a usb disc drive and reinstall win7 HP x64 myself but it is an annoying task to have to fetch the drivers.

I received my laptop about a week or two weeks ago. And was wondering if everyone else's Line Cord to AC adapter looked like this? The line cord looks like it was designed to go further in. When attaching the Line Cord to the ac adapter, only half of it goes in (shown through picture) http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/5603/x120eacadapter.jpg The ac adapter charges and does what it's suppose to do, but I was just expressing some concern.Afraid it was flawed,  I contacted customer service and spoke with a tech from Atlanta, Georgia two days ago. She did an excellent job at trying to resolve my concern by sending me a line cord replacement. I received the product yesterday and unfortunately, the line cord was the same and the concern was not resolved. Yesterday, I spoke with another tech, he did an excellent at hoping the ac adapter was the problem. I received the new product today and to my dismay, it's the same ac adapter.  I just got off the phone with another tech today that had terrible customer service. I nicely expressed my concern that perhaps this ac adapter is flawed because it cannot go in entirely as indicated by the grooves located on the Line Cord. He rushed my conversation with an emphasis "If it ain't broke, dont fix it. Goodbye." So my question to community.. (which I probably should have asked when I was concerned with the product)... Question: x120e SSD woes

Hello to everyone on the forum. I'm in an exacerbating situation. The short story is this. I purchased 7 x120e's , one for myself and 6 for my traveling sales reps. I need Win XP 32bit installed on all units in order to utilize existing software and office printers / copiers that don't have available Win 7 / 64bit drivers. In addition, I purchased 7 Vertex 2 SSD's. My goal was to successfully install and configure the OS on the x120e, then clone the other drives to install on the remaining 6 x120e's, then change the license keys at the time of activation and customize as necessary. or..... use SYSPREP on the completed SSD, clone it onto the remaining 6 SSD's, and then install them in the rermaining 6 x120e's. I slip streamed the AHCI drivers using nlite to create a new XP install CD. I've done this on other installs in the past with success. The long story is this: I simply cannot get past the BSOD once the OS does it's final boot into Windows. Whether I change the BIOS setting to AHCI or compatibility mode, it just won't work. I broke down and purchased a USB floppy drive to install at F6 and still BSOD on fresh install from retail full version XP on final boot. I can only get the install to fully complete on a standard IDE drive with BIOS setting in compatibility mode. If I clone the working IDE drive to the SSD then BSOD. The BSOD error is the following: 0x000000ED (0X8B6F828, 0xC000014F, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)&n... Read more

Question: X120e - HDMI + OSD

Getting a strange issue. When my X120e is plugged into my HDTV via HDMI, any time a sound is played (and thus passed through HDMI), the Lenovo OSD volume indicator will pop up. So, as you can imagine, it gets quite annoying. Anyone else notice this problem?

Answer:X120e - HDMI + OSD

Yes, I noticed this too. The volume display will appear and disappear (as if you made a volume change) at the beginning of any audio playback, whether it's the "ding" noise you get when you adjust the volume slider in the notification area, or when you start a video. I'm guessing it might have something to do with the HDMI audio passthru, but I haven't spent any time messing with settings.

Question: x120e vs edge 11

I just emailed my local distributor and found out that the x120e wont be available here. Instead, they will be pushing the Thinkpad Edge 11. What do you guys think of the Edge 11? Which would be better? I could order the x120e online. The Core i3 380UM seems to be faster than the AMD Fusion E-350, but the Fusion has better graphics. The x120e has a better screen though as it has the matte one instead of the glossy ones found in the Edge. But what do you think about the battery life? Heat? They are about the same price.

Answer:x120e vs edge 11

They are essentially the same. The differences are the CPU/GPU used.

Answer:lenovo x120e

Hi Ysa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that you were not able to install Windows 7 64-bit from a bootable USB in your Lenovo X120e.

First of all, check if your system is 32-bit/64-bit compatible and install the Windows accordingly. Visit the below link to check your system specifications.

?             Lenovo Support Page

Please click on "QUICK PATH" enter X120e and select the exact model depending on the MTM number of your device.

I would like to suggest you a few steps which can guide you through the installation of OS from bootable USB.

To create UEFI bootable USB media that can be used to install Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems on Lenovo ThinkPad, complete the following steps:

1. Insert the target USB boot media device (a conventional USB 2.0 flash drive is preferred) into an available USB port.
2. Open a Command Prompt with Administrator privileges.
3. Type "DiskPart" in the command prompt.
4. Refer the below image and execute the commands as suggested.
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
5. After all the commands have been executed, copy the entire contents of the Windows DVD/Image file to your USB flash drive.
6. Your USB flash drive is now set up to be a bootable USB drive for Windows 7.
7. Ensure that you have Secure Boot disabled in your BIOS, Enable legacy boot. The UEFI BIOS won't boot from a normal usb key.

Answer:X120e first infos

Yes, Lenovo will be releasing the X120e, a fixed x100e, essentially screwing x100e owners with a laptop that overheats and gobbles batteries.  Will Lenovo make good on recent purchases of X100e's, don't bet on it.  However, I would certainly like to be proved wrong on this.  So go ahead Lenovo do the right thing for your loyal customer base and allow x100e owners to trade up or retrofit to the x120e.

About 9months ago I received my X120e (took some effort, as they are never deliverd in Ireland officially). And never bothered to look for the 3G as I didn't order it (so I thought). Today I decided to clean the inside, so when I opened it up, there where 2 surprises. 1st, the inside was almost perfectly clean. Barely and dust. And as 2nd I saw that there is a SIM-card slot.  In the thinkvantage Connections tab, there is a "Mobile Broadband" option.  I have two questions: 1) does this work with any simcard with mobile broadband enabled, 2) does this work on the European 3G network?

Answer:3G standard on X120e ?

Yes, if there is a Broadband card installed.  Was the Mobile Broadband option selectable or greyed out? (If greyed out, it's unlikely you actually have a card installed)
When you looked under the cover, to the left of the SIM slot, is the slot where the WAN card goes. If there is a card there and the antennas are connected, you do indeed have a Broadband card (the smaller slot on the right is the WLAN card).

The card should work with most major carriers without any problem.
