I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

As long as your 3G carrier supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Modem) for their service, AND it operates on a 3G band supported by the MC8355..... yes, you can.

I have a T520. I decided to post this since I couldn't find anything on it anywhere when i was trying to figure it out.Sierra site has no drivers, and the lenovo driver says its an unsupported platform even though it clearly lists XP.Here's the solution, mind you I haven't tried to connect to anything yet:Go get the regular lenovo driver for sierra wireless off of the support page, run it, let it install. You can watch the sierra installer fail after that if you wish.Go into where ever you installed the driver files to, in my case C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR (Where the lenovo branded installer put the sierra installer files)Now go into the uncompressed_drivers directory (C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR\Uncompressed_Drivers)Don't run DriverInst.exe yet. It installs all the drivers, but they wont work. (Devices do not start.)Run the two .reg files to add them to the registry (LenovoPowerManagement.reg and LenovoSupportedPIDKeys.reg)Now run DriverInst.exe, and you're done! Now if someone could tell me how to increase the maximum integrated graphics from 128 mb on a t520 I'd be in heaven!

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

I ordered a Gobi 3000 for my laptop before I went abroad and found that the local carrier here (there's only one) offers EVDO service. I ordered my EVDO service but when it came to connecting using Lenovo Access Connections, the only EVDO options that are available are Sprint or Verizon. Just for the hell of it, I decided to try both and neither worked but the card is able to see the EVDO network.  The issue is that the card will not activate (even though it is activated on the local carrier's network) because it does not see a Sprint or Verizon network. If I pop in a 3G SIM card and switch the Gobi to HSDPA, it works great but 3G is expensive here which is why it isnt a great option.  The activation is purely software/firmware related on the Gobi and it's incredibly annoying to know I spent $125 for something that simply won't work (despite the assurances by the Lenovo sales team that it wasn't software-limited or locked in any way when I asked before I bought it) Anyone have any familiarity with activating the Gobi for EVDO service on providers other than Sprint or Verizon?

EV-DO never achieved enough global market penetration to become a globally standardised technology, in either an engeineering or commercial sense.

Every EV-DO  implementation was somewhat different, so its not at all suprising that you are unable to activate a Gobi 3000 card intended primarily for access to specific US providers with an EVDO provider in another market.

The Gobi 3000 card is definitely not "locked" in itself to a provider, but many EV-DO vendors would only activate a device that they had sold themselves, for purely commercial reasons.  Also, EV-DO "activation" is quite a different thing to activation in 3G networks, so even when there is a basic technology compatibility in terms of frequency bands, there may not be an ability to activate the device within the  business model of any arbitrary EVDO provider.

I have activated and am using an MC8355 in Australia, so it is definitely possible activate and use it.

There are no Australian carriers directly supported by the configuration software, but its pretty straightforward to create an Access Connection profile for a carrier, as long as the carrier support Bringing Your Own modem (not all do).

Did you use the Mobile Broadband utility to activate your card?

Which UK carrier are you intending to use?

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

Hello everybody, I have got a X131e chrombook and installed a GOBI Mobile Broadband Wireless WAN card (60Y3257). The card was perfectly detected by the system and it immedeatly tries to connect to the internet, but after a while the error message "no cellular network available" is displayed (please note: It s in Germany, using a Bildmobil/Vodafone SIM, which perfectly works with the same chromebook using a surfstick). When looking for the modem status in the crosh, the following is displayed: crosh> modem statusModem /org/chromium/ModemManager/Gobi/1:GetStatus:activation_state: 0carrier: Verizon Wirelessesn: 80075301firmware_revision: 0d010008imei: 355569041284485imsi: 262021506366626mdn: 0000003649meid: A1000004B9A8E0min: 0000003649no_signal: truepayment_url: https://quickaccess.verizonwireless.com/bbportal/chrome/start.dopayment_url_method: postpayment_url_postdata: mdn=0000003649&oem=GOG2&meid=A1000004B9A8E0prl_version: 56006technology: CDMAusage_url: https://mobile.vzw.com/vzam/servlet/vzam?client=chrome&serviceName=accountInfo&subServiceName=poundD...GetInfo:Manufacturer: Sierra Wireless IncModem: Sierra Wireless MC8355 - Gobi 3000(TM) ModuleVersion: 30500000Properties:Device: wwan0Driver: gobiEnabled: trueIpMethod: 2MasterDevice: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.6State: 40Type: 2UnlockRequired: UnlockRetries: 999CDMA:ESN: 80075301Registration:CDMA-1x: 0EVDO: 0ServingSystem:SignalQuality: 0 Might it b... HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

I've installed Sierra MC8355 drivers on Windows 10 64-bit. Drivers installed successfully, Network connections show new 'Cellular' connection, Device manager shows new Sierra 8355 devices which have drivers installed. So it looks like everything is ok with drivers (Windows 8.1 drivers) on Windows 10. My question is - what should I install to be able to use that 3G and GPS? How can I perform a 3G connection and run GPS tracking? I tried software for Windows 7 - it failed.

Answer:Sierra Wireless MC8355 on Windows 10

Hi and welcome, OxeliPlease, clarify: aren't you able to establish 3g connection using win10 mobile broadband features? What are the symptoms? To enable GPS capabilities, reinstall the drivers with option GPS=1 in the setup command line (note, use the setup installer, not the drivers package). Or, if there is configuration file in the folder where drivers are being extracted, change appropriate settings within it.

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind. I can get the T500 to install the Gobi3000 drivers - although I admit there's no drivers from Lenovo's site for the T500...windows installs them, I can see my wireless provider but windows keeps bouncing back and forth between spitting out an error that the APN settings are incorrect or "couldn't connect" Yet, I take out the Gobi 3000 card, put in a Gobi 2000...and it works perfectly fine with the exact same APN details.Any ideas?

What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

I have an x131e laptop that I recently added a Sierra wireless data card to.  It has been setup for use with verizon.  When I access the software to use with the card " Vzaccess" , it recognizes the card model but tells me it is not inserted.  I tried using the Thinkpad Access Connections , that seems to work and allows me to access the web.  The problem is that the software we use to transfer data uses the vz access in order to transmit.  I downloaded the correct drivers from Lenovo's website and am using the correct vz access software from verizon.  I am wondering how I can get the software to recognize the card?  It says on verizons website that only one connection manager may be present, either vzaccess or access connections.  Just wondering why I can get it to work with one and not the other.  Any help would be most appreciated. thanks

I need some help here.I've narrowed down the problem I've been having with my x220t+gobi 3000.Apparently when I first installed it, the driver's set the firmware to Verizon, and I could see Verizon's network on windows 8 just fine. However, I have to use tmobile because it's 3x cheaper.Right now, I have the driver's installed and the card doesn't even seem to work, so I'm wondering what I need to do to get it to work. I'm out of options. I tried reinstalling the driver/firmware, but it doesn't seem to do anything.EDIT (9/11/15 617pm): I just powered on my laptop and magically it seems to be working. All I think I need to do now is activate this thing.

I have an X220 (Win7-64-bit) through work.  Recently ordered the Gobi 3000 (Sierra Wireless) embedded WWAN device.  I installed it per the instructions that came with it.  Activated using the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (on Sprint). I can connect to Sprint just fine using any of the following connection methods:1) create a DIAL modem entry and use the Gobi 3000 modem interface2) native Win7 WWAN NDIS (i.e. using the Gobi 3000 device as an NDIS "Network Adapter")3) Using Lenovo Access Connections 7 Here's the problem..... it's SLOW!  With an external Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 (also on Sprint EV-DO Rev-A), I get screaming 3G speeds (2.2+ MBps down, 1.5 MBps up)....full signal 5 bars. However, with the embedded Gobi 3000 in the same location, I get barely 800kbps down and 450 kbps up.  I made sure that the driver is the latest.  What am I doing wrong?  I can't think of anything as to why this is so slow.  It's as if I'm only getting 1xRTT speeds and not EV-DO Rev-A. Activation isn't the issue..it connect... just SLOW. Stumped!

I have the Sierra Gobi-3000 card in several X220 laptops.  If the computer wakes from sleep mode WWAN card is no longer visible and cannot be connected to until after a reboot.  I found the USB Controller for it and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power management to no avail. The error message in Device manager (after sleep mode) is "Windows cannot load teh device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)".

Answer:Gobi 3000 disappears after sleep on X220

I also have this problem on my X220 laptops. I found if you disable then re-enable the device in Device Manager, it helps to bring the Gobi card back to life. It's a workaround, but not a root cause fix.Did you find out any other info for fixing this?

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

This may seem like a stupid question, so forgive me. I am wanting to purchase the x230, and thinking about getting the gobi 4000 card.  However, my questions is this: I have a Verizon Wireless plan with truly unlimited data... one of those that got grandfathered in. Now, can I take the sim card out of my phone, plug it into the gobi card in the x230, and get Internet access? Thanks.

Answer:X230 question regarding the Gobi 4000 mobile broadband cards

Will you get Sierra Wireless mc7750 card (Gobi 4000 for Verizon Wireless, FRU 0A36318) inside of your laptop or install it yourself? If the answer is "yes", my answer for your question is "yes".But as I know Verizon doesn't need sim card for internet access, you just need to activate your modem with plan in carrier' network using Lenovo Mobile Broadband application. Download it from the site.

Not sure if this is a problem, more just a question... I installed a brand new Sierra EM7455 WWAN module a few days ago in my X260--got it direct from Lenovo. Getting it working was a little convoluted (had to reset BIOS) but it connects just fine to AT&T. The question or concern I have is when ever I restart the computer, I get a pop-up in the lower right that says "Configuring mobile broadband device...Do not shut down or restart Windows." It takes about 1-2 minutes, says "success" then everything is fine. The "problem" is that this happening every time I reboot. Has anyone seen this or know what's wrong? I've attached a screenshot of the message. I installed the official Lenovo drivers for the EM7455. I tried uninstalling the Sierra package and the message goes away--but so does the WWAN module... I re-installed the driver package and now the message is back. I had an X250 with the previous gen Sierra WWAN module and it was generally trouble free, no strange issues like this. Thanks

I've been trying to fix a problem with my Lenovo T460S for months now, with hours spent on it and no success. The thing pops up with "Configuring mobile broadband device" every time from a fresh start, which takes about 30 seconds to complete. I've read this is to do with the SierraEM7455 onboard, but there is only one driver available for this on the website, and this does not fix the problem.  Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm getting very frustrated with it.

Answer:T460S "Configuring Mobile Broadband Device" every time on power up (Sierra EM7455)

HiThere is a solution in another thread where you've posted short question about issue with em7455 - disable Selective Suspend Mode drivers.Navigate to the folder where em7455 drivers package from Lenovo site is extracted (usually c:\drivers...). There should be Lenovo7455DriverSetup installer and Configuration.ini file. Open the latter in the text editor like Notepad. Add the following string in the 1st section [Default Values]:SS=0It'll disable SS mode drivers installation. Save the file, reinstall the drivers. I'd advice to remove existing modem drivers firstly.

Will Lenovo add official support for Sierra Wireless MC7710 http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed/MC7710.aspx please ? It is LTE/HSPA+ WWAN "Gobi 4000" module for Europe region. By support I mean to whitelist the device in BIOS at least, assuming the WWAN card will be Lenovo branded one for X230 model. Please consider that many of us could wait for X230 with official 4G WWAN support but the keyboard layout change was unacceptable so we bought X220 instead. Because Lenovo don't want to introduce ThinkPad classic keyboard as X230 option they could allow X220 owners to use up-to-date WWAN cards instead.

Answer:X220 support for 4G/LTE Sierra Wireless MC7710 WWA...

There is a little bit problem for implementing full featured LTE support in x220 - mc7710 needs 3 antennas. Perhaps one of them is for GPS only, I don't have clear information. MC7700/7750 support restricted number of bands for US market so may be they don't need 3rd antenna in x230. We'll see some answers when x230' parts list will be published and compare antennas FRU.But your request is very important for me too.

I installed the GOBI WAN card, it's recognized and functioning within Win7.  Activated at Verizon.  Problem is in trying to activate on x220.  When I try to connect, it asks if I want to activate.  When I click okay, it tells me that I need to install "Mobile Broadband Connection". Can anyone help me here?  What is this software?  Is it Lenovo - Verizon had no idea. Thanks!

Answer:Qualcomm Gobi Broadband Wireless

Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. I have the same card, and I'm able to connect via Access Connections. Access Connections (Advanced view) should have two profiles:HSPA Mobile Broadband -- this is the one for AT&TVerizon WirelessSelect HSPA Mobile Broadband profile, and it should walk you through connecting to AT&T. Good luck,

welcome to the community. if you have a wwan card, it will be under the keyboard palmrest. many systems are sold as wwan-ready, but that usually only means that the sim card slot is installed and the wwan anttenae are installed. a mobile broadband card (wwan) is typically an option added during purchase configuration. looks like you need a card. hth.

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

I purchased the above model yesterday. The person in the shop had no specs at hand but after a few google searches I confirmed the specs as advertised on many sites and they matched up to the basic info provided by windows (i5-2410m, 4GB Ram, 320GB HDD, etc). But all sites also mentioned it was WWAN ready or 3G ready. This is great for Kenya where you can get a 3G SIM card and top it up with prepaid data bundles for very low prices. I have been using a Huawei 3G USB stick for years with great success. Part of the reason for buying this one was the ability to put the SIM card into the laptop, so there is no need to carry around a 3G USB dongle and attach it every time the laptop comes out of the bag. But in Access Connections the Mobile Broadband option is greyed out, even after putting a SIM card into the slot behind the battery. Is this model (42872RG) really 3G ready or is all the info on the net lies/missleading?Great little laptop but the inbuilt 3G was one of the main reasons I bought it  Have I missed something or is my unit just missing the 3G innards? Any help appreciated! And greets from sunny Nairobi

Answer:X220 42872RG missing Mobile Broadband?

"Ready" means it has the SIM reader and 3G antennas installed.

It does not mean it has a 3G card installed.

Lenovo has the 3G cards available as a separate item for upgrading 3G ready systems.

Hi!I have a Thinkpad X220 with the BIOS whitelist removed. I just installed a Sierra Wireless MC7304. After installing the drivers from TechShip, the card is recognized as well as the inserted SIM card. However, it says "turned off" and I can't get it to turn on.Now, I have one more detail to share. The built-in SIM card holder on my X220 got broken previously due to a NANO sim adapter trashing the connectors. With a SIM in this slot, it doesn't get recognized. To get around this problem, I have installed a SIM Card adapter for mini PCI Express modules (https://techship.com/products/sim-card-adapter-for-mini-pci-express-modules/). With this fitted to the WWAN card, the SIM gets recognized. However, I see two Cellular connections (see attached screenshot). In device manager, I also have 3 Sierra Wireless network adapters.I assume I should disable some of these adapters to get this working by looking at hardware IDs. Any idea how to identify and diable the adapter coming from the broken sim card slot?

I have just taken delivery of a B50-30 All in One and it doesn't recognise my Telstra 4G Broadband Modem Device which plugs into a USB port and imports a Connection Manager which then initiates connection to the internet.. Although the machine makes  a tingle when the modem is plugged in (have tried all different USB ports) - this would seem to indicate that it recognises a new device - the Connection Manager icon doesn't pop up. The modem User Guide says it can be loaded manually by finding and clicking on the file "setup.exe". Couldn't find this file even though there is virtually nothing on this brand new computer. When customizing an x220 at the Lenovo site, I was faced with the (many) choices listed for Integrated WiFi wireless LAN adapters and Integrated mobile broadband.  Could someone discuss these?  Many thanks,Hoge

Answer:Wireless and Broadband choices in the x220

Mobile broadband(WWAN) allow you to connect to the internet over the cell phone network, that's with a plan of course.  Wireless Internet(WLAN) allows you to connect to the internet via a router.  What's your usage pattern.  If you want to connect anywhere there's cell phone service and don't mind paying fee, then perhaps the WWAN card is worth the expense.  If you just want to connect via routers either at home, work or school, then one of the wireless cards is the better option.  I myself went the cheap route and got the ThinkPad card, but I just use mine for internet at home and work mainly.  I also live in an area with no mobile broadband, so I wouldn't pay for it.   If you transfer a lot of files over the network, one of the better Intel cards might be worth a look.

Hi guys
Just signed up with Blink Mobile Wireless Broadband and am enjoying better browsing after years of speeds of 40K avg optusnet dial-up.

Questions:

1. What is my options concerning accessing newsgroups (Usenet) as my Forte Agent now doesn't work since changing over?.

2. E-mail access via my outlook, do I delete the dial-up optusnet mail account now, and if so what do I setup as the email acct to download mail to my hard drive & program I use for e-mail?.

3. Does anyone know if this provider or one's offering the same service, does use a part of your data limit while you are on-line but now browsing (I get up and have dinner leaving connect open)?.

4. Now it's up and running, do I simply delete all references to my former Optusnet dial-up (Connection, I.E Settings, ete)

Any other tips or advice most thankful for as the site I went to, had not that much to really educate a newbie to WBB.

Cheers

Has anyone tried to install and use an integrated mobile broadband card on the Lenovo U150? The manual states where to insert the SIM card and there is a slot open for it under one of the covers but I can't seem to find which one to purchase. I called Lenovo and the sales person gave me a part number of 43R9152. I then called technical support to confirm and the said they don't have an approved card that can be installed. Is it possible that in this day a laptop manufacturer would create a laptop this size and not provide an option for wireless mobile broadband? I'm hesitant to purchase this part and hoping someone can confirm that it works.

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

I am going to customize new x301 laptop, however i have some questions about Verizon wireless mobile broadband module. For AT&T, i know the hardware device, it's "Ericsson_F3507g_Mobile_Broadband_Module".Could anybody show me the hardware device of Verizon card?  Doing search on web, i just know it's "Verizon Wireless UNDP BroadBand Option"    If my x301 is built in Verizon card (from Lenovo customize), is it also supported GSM, HSPDA? And the sim slot is available (not white/blank slot) so that i can insert GSM sim card into? Do i need to activate or unlock Verzion on my laptop so  that i can use any GSM of any service providers? And how about AT&T wireless mobile broadband, is it the same? Please help me to clarification. Thank you so much.

Answer:X301 wireless mobile broadband Verizon and AT&T

The Verizon module is Qualcomm Wireless HS-USB Ethernet Adapter 9202 The Verizon module supports SIM card and 3G networks for international roaming via Vodaphone. No unlocking needed. AT&T SIM in the Verizon card may work, but is unsupported. The Ericcson card will connect to AT&T networks, but not Verizon EVDO.

Hello Everyone, I have been having an issue when I use the X240 (Win 7 64 bit) Mobile Broadband (Gobi 5000-ATT), it turns off the wireless card?  I have to go back into the Access Connections and select Wifi for it to turn the wireless on again?  Does anybody know if there is an update that will fix this?  Thank you

Hi, guys! I know this error about unauthorized card is very regular. I know a reason. Nevertheless I need a help. I've got an x220 laptop with i5-2520m and broadband option installed in it - an official Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205 (78y1399). WLAN card is also exist. Laptop and Gobi 2000 are from Lenovo and purchased officially. The drivers for modem and boot loader are downloaded from Lenovo's site. All nesessary drivers and patches for Microsoft Windows 7 and Lenovo are installed too. With initial BIOS v.1.04 the system works fine, with the only one problem - modem isn't presented in Access Connection since the laptop cold starts. So I've to load the default settings in setup every time the laptop cold starts and restart the laptop. I know this error has been fixed in new BIOS. After the newest BIOS 1.16 was flashed the system halts if I try to access setup (after F1) or after cold start. The error message you know - "1802: Unauthorized network card.... (05c6/9205) . System is halted". Also, as the modem isn't set to default stage it's not visible in Access Connection. In Hardware Manager the modem looks fine and can be tested. I had to downgrade to BIOS 1.04. The questions are:1. I know this Qualcomm Gobi 2000 (78y1399) isn't in compatibility list of x220. It's a surprise for me. Why so as both products are from Lenovo and 78y1399 is supported by x201, for example?2. Why the 78y1399 isn't presented in new BIOSes white li... Read more

Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

I don't have the Gobi 3000 device, but the information you need is here:USB\VID_1199&PID_9012 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 (QDLOADER)USB\VID_1199&PID_9013 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 9012 & 9013 are items for the same device. As you know 9012 is for fw loading management. Also, as you see Gobi 3000 sits on usb interface only.

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... I just got my wireless broadband and can't connect with my dell inspiron 530.

It first told me that 'this computer does not have a wireless network adaptor installed and configured'

Then I tried to connect another way, and it was asking me for user name and password. I put in what was on the back of the wireless adaptor - the name, and the wifi key number as the password. It looked like it was trying to connect but didn't.

I have a laptop as well and that connected straight away with no problem.

Have tried to google for the answer but nothing I can find really makes any sense to me - can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Hi all, i hope someone can help. When i am out and about, if i open access connections, i am not able to connect to the internet using Mobile broadband, as the option is not available.  Under the wireless options section the Wireless Wan section is not available, it is not greyed out or anything, it is simply just not there. Here comes the confusing part. When i get into the office, i connect to the lan via ethernet, and bobs your uncle the Wireless Wan option is now available and i am able to select connect to Mobile Broadband. So why am i able to connect to Mobile broadband when i am in the office, yet when i am genuinely mobile, the option is not available? Advanced info I have installed the lateset Wireless Wan drivers from the Lenovo website. I have updated the machine using system updates, so as far as i am aware everything is in tip top shape.

Answer:Mobile Broadband and Wireless Wan not showing in Access Connections

I can't help you, but for what it's worth, I have a similar problem with my R61. When it's docked to the 2503 Advanced Dock, the WiFi option disappears; it's not dimmed out, it's gone. All is well when I undock the R61. The problem appears to be the Matrox drivers for my M9120 PCI-E graphics card. I wish I could use WiFi while docked at work so I could allow coworker to share my WiFi-to-3G connection to the Internet.

Hello, Has anyone tried installation of a sierra wireless MC7750 card on a X220 tablet? I've gotten hold of a MC7750 and intend to install it on my X220 tablet and try it with Verizon 4G network. Thanks,Anand

Answer:Thinkpad X220 Tablet - Installation of sierra wire...

I have not tried it, but I can tell you that most likely it will not work in the default configuration.  Lenovo machines have a whitelist that checks to see if the WWAN card inserted into the machine is regonized and certified.  If the machine doesn't recognize the card it will display an 1804 error.  Since Lenovo doesn't yet sell these cards yet, it's unlikely that this card is on their whitelist. Some people modify their BIOSes to recognize cards that Lenovo hasn't put on their list yet.  I believe you can find such moded BIOSes here: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Removed-whitelist-removal-Lenovo-ThinkPad-x220-v1-21 or alternatively maybe in the forums in http://www.mydigitallife.info/ There may be newer versions of the BIOS in the same forum, but I haven't checked in a while. I've been waiting for months for Lenovo to support the MC7750, or another LTE card like it.  I've been told by several sales people that "it's right around the corner".  Pretty much hogwash so far.  I haven't gone the step of ordering one of these card yet hoping that Lenovo will officially support it soon.  Please post back though if you do end up moding your bios.  I'm curious to know how well it works.  Also read up on taping pin 20.  Some people say it's necessary in addition to moding the bios. Good luck.

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

Anyone else using one of these internal minicards; they seem to be getting more popular?

My problem: previous (T-Mobile/UK) PCMCIA card & SIM came with associated software and 'Speedmanager' that allowed one to select no compression for perfect web pages/images. T-Mobile SIM via Dell minicard gives better connection, but unfortunately no control over the fairly obvious compression.

Previous T-Mobile Communications Center v2.7 software that worked perfectly had to be ditched for v2.10 (Vista) when I moved to a new laptop with that OS. In a somewhat bizarre backward step this comes without 'Speedmanager' (?). There is other laptop specific (e.g. Sony) software from T-Mobile, like the Web'n'Walk Manager v3.1 out today, but nothing for Dell.

So back to the Dell card and software; there is no facility to adjust compression in the latter and endless searching brings up no solutions, upgrades or whatever. I can get a perfect web page by pressing Ctl+F5 after each page download, but that's a bit of a fiddle each time. But the fact that one can, means that perhaps a solution is not far away; maybe in the form of alternative software or some sort of intervention (config file, modem scripts etc?).

Anyway, if anyone has got any bright ideas I would be very grateful; thanks

Brand new HP Z Book 17 [email protected] It has the embedded 4211 GOBI LTE broadband device installed. (Verified by removing the cover and looking at the label pasted on laptop. The SIM was working in another laptop with no issues. SIM/IMEI was provided to Verizon and verified configured properly in the network. HP connection manager shows  broadband wireless connects to the Verizon network on the first try but there is no data connectivity. Unable to connect to anything with a browser. This is done without the laptop connected to any network. The laptop works perfectly on WiFi LAN and Wired LAN connections though. The HP connection manager show NOTHING in the "Mobile Broadband" tab which seems to indicate the HP connection manager is not talking to the GOBI properly even though it connects to the Verizon network. The lastest 4211 driver on the website appears to have issues during installation as it states "unsuccesfully installed" several times. HP, what is the issue here ? I just recently subscribed to Sprint Mobile Broadband from the 3G store, and I got the 598U Sierra USB Modem for $30, a free antenna, and bought a router from them.

My question is about the 5 gig limit that Sprint has on it's $60 a month service. If you exceed the limit, you get charged extra. Is there any type of tracking software that shows how much bandwidth has been used?

Answer:598U Sierra USB Modem & Sprint Mobile 5gig limit

What router are you using?

Usually when you use the aircards on your laptop the connection app keeps track of usage (I know sierra's apps do from experience, as does verizons). Through a router it depends on what you are using though.

dell sells a gobi card,  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s...  , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier.  Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

Answer:T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it.  That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM).  A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card".  I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?
