I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't have the Gobi 3000 device, but the information you need is here:USB\VID_1199&PID_9012 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 (QDLOADER)USB\VID_1199&PID_9013 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 9012 & 9013 are items for the same device. As you know 9012 is for fw loading management. Also, as you see Gobi 3000 sits on usb interface only.

Hello everybody, I have got a X131e chrombook and installed a GOBI Mobile Broadband Wireless WAN card (60Y3257). HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. If I search on the internet I can only find information about this controller working with Vodafone cards. Is this my problem? Is there anything I need to change about my settings or anything? When I use the simcard in another USB WWan device it asks for a pin. When it is the lenovo it only says 'no sim card installed'. I hope someone can help me out. thnx for the support.

Answer:X200t: Qualcomm Gobi for Windows 7 / Verizon WWAN card

Jim, I hope you have this working by now, but if not you should know the Lenovo have released Windows 7 Qualcomm BETA drivers, which (at least for my W500) seems to be working fine. You'll find the Win 7 BETA page here and the Qualcomm beta drivers here (ThinkPad UNDP Wireless WAN Driver) I had to uninstall the drivers I had installed from Vista, and then install these. After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

Hi, eyeland

Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Good morning all. I recently installed a GOBI 5000 WWAN card for AT&T into my new Thinkpad T440p. I downloaded the driver package from the appropriate Windows 8.1 matrix and the computer crashed (blue screen DRIVER_POWER_SAVE) and then restarted. The driver appears to have been installed, as the device manager shows the following entry under networking adapters: Sierra Wireless EM7355 Qualcomm GOBI 4G/LTE/HSPA+/EVDO Also, under the networking portion of the Metro style settings page, the AT&T Broadband modem shows up, and with information regarding the IMEI, IMSI, which I forwarded to AT&T, so as far as they are concered my preexisting Data plan is current with the modem's IMEI number.. Still no luck with connecting. There was mention of Lenovo Broadband Mobile Activation Utility which I found elsewhere on Lenovo's but upon lauching the installer, it says that the current card is not supported. Overall, not sure what to do to get this thing connected to Mobile Broadband, also not sure if incomplete driver installation could be the culprit. I am going to call Lenovo support to see what they can do, will update here.

Answer:T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Just got off with Lenovo Tech Support. They mentioned that theThinkPad GOBI 5000 Mobile Broadband - AT&T GOBI 5000 WWAN card, Part number: 0C52886 using Sierra Wireless EM7355 - GOBI 5000 software (ghwp14ww.exe), version 3.4.1308.3909 as of 13 DEC 2013 may not be compatible with Windows 8.1 which is what I am running currently. I will check on when the updated driver package appears with compatibility for Windows 8.1 and post here, they mentioned that it should be pushed via Lenovo System Update, so I guess I will stay tuned.

Will the new AT&T Gobi 5000 work with the T530?  Not that it should matter but the innards include an i7-3520M, 16GB 1600MHz, and a 256GB 840 Pro.  I'd opt for the 5000 rather than the 4000 if I knew it was compatible.  Any advice?

I have a W510 with the Gobi WWAN chipset running x64 Win7 Enterprise.  Once I install the Gobi WWAN driver, the system has a BSOD within 10 seconds of the install wrapping up.  After a reboot, if I switch off the wireless, I am OK, but once I switch it back on, I will BSOD within a minute.  I am running the latest BIOS as of today.  I am running the latest Gobi drive from the Lenovo site (1.1.90/2.0.6.9).  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm experiencing massive problems with the BIOS versions newer than the 1.10a release. As soon as I apply the two newer versions 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW), the WWAN device Gobi 2000 isn't listed any more in the device manager and a connection using this device isn't possible any more. The newest Access Connections states that the device isn't found.Applying the setup defaults after updating the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem. Searching the internet shows, that multiple people are struggling with this problem. As soon as I roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS version, the problem doesn't exist any more. System details:* Thinkpad Model: 2876-27G* all newest thinkpad/thinkvantage packages installed* all currently available windows updates installed* Working BIOS: 1.10a (6XET31WW)* Problem causing BIOS: 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW) Regards,rotorhead

Answer:X100e BIOS Problems with WWAN Device Gobi 2000

Hello rotorhead, welcome to Lenovo forums!

Please try this:

1. In BIOS under "Security" / "IO Port Access" disable the devices "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN" 2. Reboot 3. Shut down the machine completely. 4. Go into BIOS and enable "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"

If that doesn´t work please uninstall WWAN-driver, Access Connection und Hot key driver, then install first the hotkey driver, AC and WWAN driver.

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.)  The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade"... The WWAN (Gobi 2000 card) in my X100e won't connect if the card stays enabled (FN-F5) during a system boot or resume from standby.  If I leave it disabled during a reboot or standby/resume and enable it afterwards, everything seems to work fine. I'm using HSPA and I'm in an area with good signal.  The signal strength fades in/out every few seconds according to the Windows Broadband icon when it isn't working.  The signal stays solid and there are no issues if I boot the system with the card disabled initially. I'm running the latest bios (1.23) and the ThinkVantage tools have updated all the software on Windows 7 Professional.  I've loaded the BIOS defaults a few times now and Lenovo wants the unit back to replace the Gobi 2000 card. The X100e is a recent purchase from Lenovo Canada and it was ordered with the Gobi 2000 card.  Access Connections (AC) wants me to activate on Verizon (not available in Canada), but it does seem to work with a HSPA sim from a Canadian carrier... but AC always prompts to tell me that I'm roaming.  I'd like to get that fixed too. Has anyone experienced this problem?  Any suggestions?  I think it's a s/w problem but I'll ship it back to Lenovo as per their tech support. Thanks...

Answer:X100e WWAN Gobi 2000 Fails if Enabled During Boot/Resume

The X100e is now headed back to Lenovo for EasyServ warranty repair. An identical unit we bought does not exhibit this behavior at all so I'm inclined to believe it's a hardware problem.  The Lenovo phone tech's recommendation to send it in to get the Gobi 2000 card replaced appears to be correct.

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

I have a question. Does anyone know if a GOBI 3000 works in a T410?  I am aware that the 1802 error may be an issue but I was wondering none the less. Thanks.

Answer:T410 able to use GOBI 3000?

Welcome to the community. Looking at this driver page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001273I'd presume that you could. hth. Eta: hmmm... Not sure now. The item at the link above is the activation program. The readme talks about a driver, but I don't see it on the matrix at: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74582Odd... Last edit: found the referenced Gobi 3000 driver here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77035No mention of the T410 in the readme. Sorry if I caused confusion.

Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... I have an X220 (Win7-64-bit) through work.  Recently ordered the Gobi 3000 (Sierra Wireless) embedded WWAN device.  I installed it per the instructions that came with it.  Activated using the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (on Sprint). I can connect to Sprint just fine using any of the following connection methods:1) create a DIAL modem entry and use the Gobi 3000 modem interface2) native Win7 WWAN NDIS (i.e. using the Gobi 3000 device as an NDIS "Network Adapter")3) Using Lenovo Access Connections 7 Here's the problem..... it's SLOW!  With an external Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 (also on Sprint EV-DO Rev-A), I get screaming 3G speeds (2.2+ MBps down, 1.5 MBps up)....full signal 5 bars. However, with the embedded Gobi 3000 in the same location, I get barely 800kbps down and 450 kbps up.  I made sure that the driver is the latest.  What am I doing wrong?  I can't think of anything as to why this is so slow.  It's as if I'm only getting 1xRTT speeds and not EV-DO Rev-A. Activation isn't the issue..it connect... just SLOW. Stumped!

I have the Sierra Gobi-3000 card in several X220 laptops.  If the computer wakes from sleep mode WWAN card is no longer visible and cannot be connected to until after a reboot.  I found the USB Controller for it and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power management to no avail. The error message in Device manager (after sleep mode) is "Windows cannot load teh device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)".

Answer:Gobi 3000 disappears after sleep on X220

I also have this problem on my X220 laptops. I found if you disable then re-enable the device in Device Manager, it helps to bring the Gobi card back to life. It's a workaround, but not a root cause fix.Did you find out any other info for fixing this?

I ordered a Gobi 3000 for my laptop before I went abroad and found that the local carrier here (there's only one) offers EVDO service. I ordered my EVDO service but when it came to connecting using Lenovo Access Connections, the only EVDO options that are available are Sprint or Verizon. Just for the hell of it, I decided to try both and neither worked but the card is able to see the EVDO network.  The issue is that the card will not activate (even though it is activated on the local carrier's network) because it does not see a Sprint or Verizon network. If I pop in a 3G SIM card and switch the Gobi to HSDPA, it works great but 3G is expensive here which is why it isnt a great option.  The activation is purely software/firmware related on the Gobi and it's incredibly annoying to know I spent $125 for something that simply won't work (despite the assurances by the Lenovo sales team that it wasn't software-limited or locked in any way when I asked before I bought it) Anyone have any familiarity with activating the Gobi for EVDO service on providers other than Sprint or Verizon?

EV-DO never achieved enough global market penetration to become a globally standardised technology, in either an engeineering or commercial sense.

Every EV-DO  implementation was somewhat different, so its not at all suprising that you are unable to activate a Gobi 3000 card intended primarily for access to specific US providers with an EVDO provider in another market.

The Gobi 3000 card is definitely not "locked" in itself to a provider, but many EV-DO vendors would only activate a device that they had sold themselves, for purely commercial reasons.  Also, EV-DO "activation" is quite a different thing to activation in 3G networks, so even when there is a basic technology compatibility in terms of frequency bands, there may not be an ability to activate the device within the  business model of any arbitrary EVDO provider.

Cheers,

Bill

I have a T520. I decided to post this since I couldn't find anything on it anywhere when i was trying to figure it out.Sierra site has no drivers, and the lenovo driver says its an unsupported platform even though it clearly lists XP.Here's the solution, mind you I haven't tried to connect to anything yet:Go get the regular lenovo driver for sierra wireless off of the support page, run it, let it install. You can watch the sierra installer fail after that if you wish.Go into where ever you installed the driver files to, in my case C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR (Where the lenovo branded installer put the sierra installer files)Now go into the uncompressed_drivers directory (C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR\Uncompressed_Drivers)Don't run DriverInst.exe yet. It installs all the drivers, but they wont work. (Devices do not start.)Run the two .reg files to add them to the registry (LenovoPowerManagement.reg and LenovoSupportedPIDKeys.reg)Now run DriverInst.exe, and you're done! Now if someone could tell me how to increase the maximum integrated graphics from 128 mb on a t520 I'd be in heaven!

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Hi all I've been trying to activate the Gobi 3000 in my W530 for the past couple of days.  Although I have installed the drivers and I am able to see the "Mobile Broadband Connection" in network properties, it seems to be locekd to Verizon or Sprint (deponding on which OS I boot into) and I can't find anywhere to change this, even though I have a SIM card from the local telco (Telkom Mobile in South Africa).  Can someone please explain how to go about doing this?  The Gobi 2000 in my W510 was simply a few clicks, but this seems to be a whole different can of worms.

I have a quick question for those who have the Gobi 3G. When you first turn on your computer does your WWAN light stay on and remain on until you log in into Windows? Since my bluetooth light and WLAN turns off immediately after going past the BIOS screen. Since there are times when I didn't log in and my battery life was pretty drained. Wondering if there's any fix or setting changes I can make? Or is this even normal? Thanks.

I cannot find a GPS signal with a Gobi 5000 card, although the Gobi website plainly says the card it supposed to broadcast a GPS signal.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?  My software (Delorme Street Atlas USA and Microsoft Streets and Trips) each say there is no GPS device,.  The software definitely finds a USB GPS device, but not the built-in Gobi GPS. The Gobi 4000 software came with GPB enabler software, but I cannot find similar software for the Gobi 5000.

Answer:Gobi 5000 card GPS doesn't work.

I have the identical problem. Lenovo tech support has no idea what to ay about it. It has been suggested that my WWAN card needs to be activated with my wireless provider in case that "turns on" the GPS, but that strikes me as patently ridiculous.  I have reference in Device Mgr to a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor, but it is not associated with a COM port, and no software seems able to find it. This is profoundly annoying.

I'm getting such mixed information from retailers, and no answer at all from Lenovo after hanging on the phone for an hour. Some retailers say this machine does NOT have WWAN, some say it can be upgraded, and some say it is enabled (ready to go?). I appreciate that there is the NVY4LUK (glossy screen, WWAN upgradable), and NVY5FUK (anti-glare screen, not WWAN upgradable, but I am specifically looking at the top model NVY5EUK.Can anyone state the true position? I don't want to assume it's included if it's not, because the retailer will just claim that they never said it had 3G Broadband in the first place!

Answer:Edge 11 - NVY5EUK: does it have the Gobi 2000 card installed?

An update ... I placed an order today with a UK supplier for an NVY5EUK on the condition that he first find out whether the machine was fully equipped for 3G Broadband - their web site stated 'no', their techie stated 'no', I quoted the 'onebookcatalogue.pdf' from the Lenovo web site, he managed to speak to someone at Lenovo and came back with the answer that it does have full 3G Broadband. As the majority of Lenovo sellers don't seem to know what they are selling (similar problems with the AMD specs too), I wonder how many potential sales are lost because customers think they are getting less than they really are with Lenovo, and go elsewhere for the features they are looking for. Or they get a machine that does not live up to the retailer's spec, and blame Lenovo. It is surely not beyond the wit of Lenovo to publish on their web site a definitive and accurate specifications of all the machines they are currently selling - after all, they are the only ones who can really know. Most retailers seem to rely on www.icecat.biz, which is at best incomplete, and at worst misleading. When my Edge 11 arrives in a couple of days I will know for sure. I trust it will also have the anti-glare screen I am hoping for!

dell sells a gobi card,  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s...  , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier.  Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

Answer:T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it.  That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM).  A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card".  I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections.  Hi I hope someone could assist.  I bought an E120 as my country does not see the X120e I had purchased a GOBI 2000 WWAN Card from Lenovo re-seller.  The card passes through the whitelist just fine although it is not stated as one of the supported WWAN devices. I tried installing the 7xwc48ww.exe (X120e and Edge 11 WAN drivers) to see if it would work.  The GOBI Loader installs, but the driver does not load, meaning - Under device manager - PORTS - Gobi loader              - Under device manager - Network Adapters - No Gobi WAN Card  I also tried the solution from -http://curiouslynerdy.com/2009/05/qualcomm-gobi-wwan-card-on-windows-7/ but still no joy. I believe the X120 and E120 are very similar, so I assume the Gobi WAN should be able to work. Can someone suggest another solution?   Thanks much!

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

Hi! I have a T430 2347CTO. The notebook has an Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) adapter installed. 1. The WLAN adapter is causing problems and I'd like to replace it, but I'm not sure what I should install instead. Any tips? 2. I'd like to install a WWAN adapter, but I'm not sure if my model has the required antenna installed. Does anybody know if it has?

Answer:Thinkpad T430 - replace WLAN card and add WWAN card

I confirmed that this WLAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-wifi-Card-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-T430-60Y...

And I also confirmed this WWAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gobi3000-3G-WWAN-Card-60Y3257-for-Thinkpad-X220-X230-T420-T430-W520-W530/22...

The WLAN card is N wireless; and the WWAN card is 3G.  The ones I linked to are shipping from the US and the best price I could find.

Hope that helps!

Hello there,I recently purchased a Lenovo w510 without a integrated broadband modem. (Gobi 2000 - Mini PCI express card)I notice that the slot for a simcard is present in the laptop, and am now wondering what it would take for me to install this product myself. Has anyone had any experience/success with this? The product description is here: http://www.qualcomm.com/common/documents/analyst/Gobi_2000_ProductSheet.pdf So it's a Mini PCI express that we're dealing with. The basic installation method is here: http://pc-level.com/2009/02/installing-wireless-card-on-laptop/ (also I've just noticed that the procedure is well documented in the user manual): //start menu/help and support/lenovo access help/replacing devices But I'm wondering if anyone else has made this upgrade post-sale and had success/challenges. Thanks, SBK

Answer:Installing a GOBI 2000 (post-sale upgrade) - Mini PCI express card

I think you can, provided that you obtain a Gobi 2000 card with Lenovo FRU. A generic Gobi 2000 card or a Gobi 2000 card from another vendor will not work in your W510 without BIOS modding.

This is a follow up post to my original post about Mobile Broadband on M6800.
I purchased the Dell Wireless™ DW5808 Gobi 4G/LTE full Mini-Card (Manufacturer Part# : 1N1FY | Dell Part# : 1N1FY) and installed it in my Precision M6800.  I went to my local Verizon store and picked up the correct SIM card (based on the IMEI of the card).
After powering up my laptop, Windows 10 recognized the card and reported it needed a driver.  I went to Dell's website and downloaded what I thought was the correct driver and installed it.  The installation reported that the driver was successfully installed, however Windows Device manager reports the card still has no driver.
Wash, rinse, repeat over and over again.  So far I have tried all of these drivers, and every one reports the installation went correctly, but Windows 10 Device Manager reports the card has no driver.

if your T400 is WWAN upgradable it will have the following features.

1. There should be a sim slot and wwan led symbol on the LED indicator status bar.

Hi, I recently purchased Sierra AirPrime EM7345 for my ThinkPad X250 & when opening the chassis to find already installed in the M.2 slot was a SanDisk 16GB SSD Sata card. There was only one slot for either momery card or WWAN card, I choose to install WWAN card but would also need memory card. How to have both at the sometime? Is it possible to add another M.2 slot or will have to use an external SSD M.2? Thanks.

wilson638,there isn't separate slot for small SSD. This laptop can be equipped by the 2nd 2.5" drive (SSD including) in the DVD bay via adapter.Note, you have to remove cache application (Express Cache) before removing of the m.2 SSD.

Anyone got advice on the best WWAN card for a T400s?  I want one that will be compatible with both ATT and Verizon.  Here's what I see available: 1.  Qualcomm GOBI Mobile BroadBand Option 2.  ThinkPad GOBI 2000 Broadband Option - No detailed info on Lenovo website. Both are the same price.

Answer:Which WWAN Card for T400s

You'll need the Qualcomm GOBI Mobile BroadBand Option. If you are configuring this at the time of purchase, the correct Gobi card should be listed. With this card, Access Connections will default to a Verizon profile, however you can create a new UMTS profile for ATT and along with an activated SIM you can get connected. The other WWAN card that is available is for WCDMA(UMTS) only, it's the 3507g card. This card will only work on the AT&T network not Verizon.

Can anyone tell me how to verify if my T500 actually has a WWAN card?ThinkVatage toolbox pops up with a message saying "A wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) card is installed in your system. Please run Lenovo Broadband Connect to activate your card.", but when I do this the tool uses a long time initializing and then says "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found.". Could this be caused by missing drivers, and if yes - what drivers would these be? According to the webshop where I bought it the model (NK19BMN) is supposed to have a WWAN-card, but I suppose that could be incorrect.

Can an X240 laptop have both an M.2 SSD and a WWAN card simultaneously installed?  Or is there only a single M.2 port such that you can only have one or the other? Also, if you buy an X240 that comes from the factory with an SSD, is the factory SSD an M.2 SSD, or a 2.5" SATA3 SSD? Thanks.

Answer:Can x240 have both an M.2 SSD AND a WWAN card?

Read the PSREF for x240 options:SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high, removable, upgradableDouble-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 Card slot, exclusive with WWAN cardSingle-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 Card slot, exclusive with Smart Card readerSo x240 can be configured even with 3 drives simultaneously:- 2.5" SSD or HDD- m.2 SSD- m.2 cache SSDWWAN card could be installed instead of the 2nd m.2 SSD, seems PFREF has a fault, look at the HMM for confirmation. If you purchase x240 from the shop.lenovo there is a couple conditions:- in order to get 3rd m.2 slot and cache SSD you should choose basic model with HDD. System Expansion Slot for the cache m.2 SSD will be added automatically; - or choose the model with 2.5" SSD. In this case you should add Smart Card Reader which could be equipped with 3rd m.2 SSD slot. But it's not all - you should find on aftermarket or purchase from Lenovo service center adapter and cable for the 3rd m.2 SSD youself. Look at x240' HMM and fru_bom file for details.Note cache m.2 SSD from Lenovo has a small capacity, so you should replace it to your choice. The only limitation is the formfactor - it should be single-sided 22x42 mm to fit into the slot. So the nomenclature and capacity are limited.

Hello, I have Lenovo U410 and this laptop has served me great for several years now. However, I want to fit it with a 4G network alongside with WiFi (I find phones to be a hindrance). I know there's some alternatives, like using an external modem, but I want it to be obscure rather than having this large thing stuck on my USB port. Is there any card that this laptop supports? Currently I'm looking into WiMAX thing but I can't seem to figure out how it works. It also seems dead, which is disappointing. I know that it's stupid that I've read the manuals about the supported cards yet I still ask this question. The thing that I want to know is, how likely will it be supported using a hacked BIOS? Because I saw some people use hacked BIOS to use 'unsupported' cards, and it works fine. Thanks!

How can I add a wireless card to the Carbon X1?  The original answer was "can't be done" becuase the computer is a sealed case and has no capability for it.  I call BS!!  The computer obviously has a slot for it, a Sim card holder, and the option to order it from the factory with wireless.  How to add wireless to a non-wireless Carbon X1?

Moderator note: edited subject to match content.  Was:  Docking stations for X1 Carbon.

Answer:X1 Carbon: add WWAN card

You don't say which generation X1C you have, but AFAIK you can add a WWAN card.  Instructions are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your particular model.

The challenge will be antennas if they aren't already installed, and finding a card that passes the BIOS whitelist.

This isn't something I can address in detail, but if you'll list your MT-M - like 20FB002SUS as an example of a WWAN-upgradable unit - others will probably be able to help.  (Upgradable means that the antennas are already in place.)

FWIW,
Z.

Hi all is the Qualcomm Gobo2000 WWAN card capable of sending SMS directly from the PC? If so, is there a way to do it from Access Connections? (I don't think so). What software would be useful in sending SMSs directly from the WWAN card? Thanks

Answer:Sending SMS from the WWAN card?

hubertlam wrote:

I don't have that card, but technically it is highly likely that  the card has the capability to do it, as most 3G cards have had it for some time now.

However, having the technical capability is useless if the 3G provider concerned does not offer SMS capability in their mobile broadband product, so your first step is to make sure your provider has SMS enabled in their 3G service.

There is a user patch which will enable the SMS message capability in Access Connections (look in the ThinkVantage forum here).  Its probable that the native Gobi connection manager software also offers an SMS message capability (again, this is something that most connection managers do support).

Cheers,

Bill

Can anyone say if I purchased the Sierra em7345 card for my x1 Carbon, which carrier (in USA) will I have to get a service plan with? Can It work with any carrier?

Answer:X1 Carbon 3rd Gen WWAN Card

HelloIt's simpler to answer about carrier and access mode (LTE, 3g) you prefer as this modem supports dozen of the US operators as well doesn't support a big part of them, including market leaders like Sprint, or supports partially (i.e.not every frequency band the carrier operates in). Also, not every operator's network covers entire US area.

I notice all we see available so far is WWAN upgradeable.  Any idea what will be available preinstalled  and when it will appear as an option on the site? The site (under the T420s specs) lists 4 WWAN minicards.  Are they specific to a carrier or should we worry about the "best" one? And it appears that they are available at retail for considerable less than the $125 Lenovo will charge.  Worth installing it yourself or are the savings too small to justify the trouble. TIA, Perry

You're searching it wrong on eBay, you just need to type in part number like this, compatible cards for your tablet are mentioned here, I think you should use the one that your phone carrier supports. Make sure to buy lenovo approved and unlocked card from eBay sellers, ask them this beforehand.

I previously owned an lenovo S10 netbook and used an Ericsson f3507g WWAN card inside it. It was a great solution but I need a faster machine and am looking at the U160. I would like to be able to use this same WWAN card inside but am not sure if this is possible. Could anyone with a U160 confirm whether they are successfully using a WWAN card with their machine and, if so, which make and model? thanksRaf

Answer:WWAN card for Ideapad U160

If the WWAN card is Mini PCI so you can.

Hey Colleaques

I have ThinkPad X201 Tablet type number: 2985-DLG.
It was explained to me earlier here that this model is WWAN (ready) and needs fitting an optional WWAN card. And I also viewed the page that was suggested as well:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-70697.html#10

However, I noticed that the nearest in compatiblity, to my tablet type, is Qualcomm Gobi2000 - Wireless WAN card Service Part # 60Y3183, which is for the model types:

0053-CTO
0831-CTO
2985-CTO, C4x, CCx, CDx, DKx, DMx, DPx, DSx, DUx, DWx, ENx, ERx, ESx, ETx
3093-CTO, 24x, 25x, 2Bx, 2Fx, 2Hx, 2Kx, 2Mx, 2Nx, 2Px, 2Rx, 2Xx, 2Yx, 3Sx, 3Ux, 3Wx
3113-CTO
3144-CTO
3239-CTO

Please, is this one compatible with 2985-DLG also??

N.B This is not for US networks

Your help is appreciated

Answer:Your suggestions please for the proper WWAN card

I think it will work with any recent lenovo nb. If you dont need the CDMA function (useful only in the US and few other countries), you can take a look also to th ericsson fg3507, which usually cost less.
