X220 - Expresscard 2.0 Support / Full Super Speed USB 3.0 (i7) Support?

Question: X220 - Expresscard 2.0 Support / Full Super Speed USB 3.0 (i7) Support?

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

Preferred Solution: X220 - Expresscard 2.0 Support / Full Super Speed USB 3.0 (i7) Support?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Folks,Does my 7764 support the ExpressCard standard (as opposed to the Cardbus standard)?  I cannot tell from any published specs that it does but I have seen some hints that it might. Thanks!

schuffr - unfortunately our tablets do not offer an integrated ExpressCard, only a PC Card slot. Taken from our PSREF documents:"One Type I or one Type II, CardBus Plus (34mm ExpressCard via adapter)"If you would be interested in using a 34mm ExpressCard device, I can look further into the availability or ordering of that option but I honestly have not heard much about it!Welcome to the community and enjoy your stay

Hello to everyone

Sorry for reposting the same subject with new-better title beacause maybe it it was not clear what I was asking.

I need your help. I am intending to buying the following AKE 54mm USB3 - 3 Port ExpressCard for my laptop that I have Windows 7 Pro x64 installed.

Laptop 54mm Express Card ExpressCard to 3 Port USB 3.0 Adapter Superspeed 5Gbps | eBay

At the description it is referred that it is supported only by Windows 7 x32 bit. Is this possible?? Is there any known driver for such an express card? I have searched in the web and found that the following driver might be ok

Download Fresco USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 7 64bit

Do you think I shoud order such a card or I will never manage to make it work in my Windows 7 x64 system???

Any advise would be very helpfull.
Thank you in advance
Regards

Answer:windows 7 x64 - USB3 ExpressCard Support & Drivers

If its specified here in the following Microsoft Article.

If I'm running a 64-bit version of Windows, do I need 64-bit drivers for my devices?

Yes, all hardware devices need 64-bit drivers to work on a 64-bit version of Windows. Drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows won't work on computers running 64-bit versions of Windows.
If the product states it only works on windows 7 32 bit, it only works in windows 7 32 bit.
Simple as that.

Never trust "driver download" websites.

If the seller offers a return policy, you could always return it and test it out with that driver. But I would just recommenced looking for something else.

And I would not buy anything electronic on ebay.

Hi,I'm not seeing X220 T listed by Lenovo in laptops-windows 10 compatibilty list...??? Is that right? Mine is a 3 years old system... I can't believe is not going to be possible to use Windows 10... Anyone has tried it?Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 support for X220 Tablet

Hello,

It may work fine with Windows 10, however, I don't believe its generation of CPU, IGP and chipset are supported by Intel for Windows 10, which means that Lenovo can't support them, either.  For what it is worth, I installed Windows 10 on a ThinkPad X61t and didn't notice any issues, and that has been out of support for a much longer time than your X220t.

That said, it could be that Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 drivers for the various bits of silicon inside your X220 tablet may work just fine under Windows 10, in which case you would be up and running.

The best suggestion I have is to make a thorough backup of your X220 and then try applying the Windows 10 Upgrade.  If it doesn't work, you will be able to wipe the drive and then reload your backup.

Regards,

Hi all I've bought my X220 in the US (haven't got it on my hands yet). Anyway, I live in Europe and I am getting concerned with the ghosting reports in the IPS screen. If I need to get it serviced under the guaranty do I need to send it to the US or can I use European facilities? best,

Answer:x220 bought in the US, support in Europe?

Hi rreis,

As long as it's covered under IWS you should be able to get support in Europe too.

Hope this helps.

I have an X220 and while back when Windows 7 was around 4GB sticks were already very expensive. Today 8GB sticks are readily avialable. So Intel says the chipset does support 16GB so can I install a pair of 8GB sticks in my X220 and be able to perk up performance? My rig has an i5-2520M CPU and I am using x64 Windows so I can leverage more memory The BIOS is UEFI so I can use a larger capacity SSD too

Hi. After much saving up and research I bought a top-of-the-range x220 four months ago in the US ($1,200). A couple of days ago a crack (see picture) appeared in the casing on the right side. Now, I can state with absolute confidence that the laptop has never been misused, dropped, bumped, or anything like that. I also have a super-padded crumpler laptop bag for it when I take it anywhere. I called Lenovo support here in the Netherlands and after struggling for a while to get them to respond to my emails, an agent told me over the phone that the crack was not covered by the warranty. I protested but to no avail. Now, call me crazy, but - if Lenovo sells you a top of the range laptop with promises of "military" durability,; you treat it like a baby (seriously, they could just inspect the thing and see there's been no accidental damage); and the casing cracks - then, shouldn't they be apologising as well as repairing it under warranty? Instead you get a blank wall and the off-hand claim that you automagically damaged your laptop and have to shell out to have it repaired... Well, if you're like me, you'd be getting pretty hot under the collar. ps: when you hold the laptop by the palmrest area the crack widens. It seems like that spot above the corner of the hard drive panel is simply too weak by design.

Answer:Crack in X220 casing + poor support

It is so sad to know that your new notebook got issue.I can understand your concern. However, I would like to share with you any physical damage (crack) does not cover into standard warranty policy. You may send the picture to the support center and they can also have a look on this.  After looking to the picture they may decide if the crack developed itself or they can reply you accordingly.

Will Lenovo add official support for Sierra Wireless MC7710 http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed/MC7710.aspx please ? It is LTE/HSPA+ WWAN "Gobi 4000" module for Europe region. By support I mean to whitelist the device in BIOS at least, assuming the WWAN card will be Lenovo branded one for X230 model. Please consider that many of us could wait for X230 with official 4G WWAN support but the keyboard layout change was unacceptable so we bought X220 instead. Because Lenovo don't want to introduce ThinkPad classic keyboard as X230 option they could allow X220 owners to use up-to-date WWAN cards instead.

Answer:X220 support for 4G/LTE Sierra Wireless MC7710 WWA...

There is a little bit problem for implementing full featured LTE support in x220 - mc7710 needs 3 antennas. Perhaps one of them is for GPS only, I don't have clear information. MC7700/7750 support restricted number of bands for US market so may be they don't need 3rd antenna in x230. We'll see some answers when x230' parts list will be published and compare antennas FRU.But your request is very important for me too.

Hi, I have been baffled by this issue for quite a while now. I have a lenovo X220 tablet that supports both finger and pen inputs for touch. Originally this laptop came with windows 7 and everything was fine and dandy. I then bought windows 8/8.1 Pro 64-bit and did a clean installation of it. Now I only have pen support for the touchscreen, i.e. my finger is recognized as a pen/mouse not a finger which is really frustrating specially when scrolling. Now before I actually purchased the win8 license I had tried out the windows 8 release preview and everything worked perfectly then. So now when I got the actual release of the OS its not. Furthermore I currently have a dual-boot set up with windows 10 technical preview as my other OS and in there it also works perfectly fine as it should. This is important because when I contacted lenovo about the issue they suggested that my screen was broken, but clearly it is not.  Can anyone shed some light on this issue? It is a real shame not to be able to take advantage of this fine screen and windows 8 touch friendlyness.  Kind regards.

when attempting to connect 2 external monitors to an x220 Laptop (1 via onboard VGA port, 1 via VGA port on docking station) only 1 monitor is detected by the laptop.  It seems that the onboard VGA port gets disabled when connecting a second monitor to the vga port on the docking station.  Does anyone know of a workaround for this?  Is this configuration supported?  Do I have to buy a docking station with 2 video ports?

Answer:Dual External monitor support for x220 laptop\tablet

Only one of the vga port can be used at any given time, so if you want to use the second vga out you would need a displayport to vga adapter.

Answer:New X220 support dual external monitors with mini dock plus?

1) Lenovo Mini Dock Plus doesn't have HDMI port. 2) The DVI port on the Mini Dock Plus is DVI-D only, so it doesn't support analogue signal. You would have to use Displayport to VGA converter instead. 3) minimal, <50 g.

Apparently since BIOS version 1.29, the X220 cannot run high speed memory above 1333MHz. Meaning that JEDEC approved SODIMMs that can run at 1600 & 1866MHz are stuck running at 1333MHz with no option anywhere in the BIOS to force higher speed. The last BIOS to support high speed memory was 1.28. The question is, why did Lenovo see fit to remove this useful feature? Is this a bug or was this feature removal intentional? Are there plans to restore this feature in future BIOS revisions? Thanks in advance

Answer:X220 - newer BIOS revisions do not support memory speeds above 1333MHz

hi.i never knew that a thinkpad bios had the capability to overclock the memory bus. i don't think i've ever seen such a setting. please expound, if you would please. i was always under the impression that faster memory could be used as long as it was physically the same form factor and architecture. that the memory bus simply dictated the actual memory access speed vs its rated capability. thanks.

Hi, Yesterday I apparently made a very costly error! On reading the changes associated with BIOS 1.21 for the x220 (improved system performance and boot time) I clicked yes and installed the update through System Update. After auto-rebooting to complete the flash, the system hung on shutdown for more than 5 minutes. Two hard resets later (to escape the same problem) and a standby request (Fn+F4) triggered the first blue screen I have seen on this machine. Since then, the laptop will not boot. The power light/thinklight turn on, as well as the speaker mute and mic mute buttons, but nothing else happens except the quiet whirr of the cooling fan. The screen has remained black ever since, as has my mood. Removing the RAM and SSD gave some beeps, but otherwise nada. Today I called the Lenovo support in Japan and had no problem finding out, to my horror, that Lenovo wants more than 50% of the laptop cost to replace the motherboard. They said that this repair is in the same category as a water damage repair and that they will not cover it under warranty. I am saddened by this since I clicked on an update recommended by Lenovo through Lenovo's System Update software, I did not carelessly tip coffee into the machine. At no point did I see a warning saying that a failed BIOS update is not covered by the warranty, nor can I find this in the US warranty terms. Perhaps things are different here in Japan? Any advice, suggestions, or even commiserations, w... Read more

I've been using my customized X220 for 7 months and to be honest I'm not satisfied with some flaws. First of all, the LCD bezel is loose as shown in notebookreview:  Secondly, the infamous touchpad doesn't work as it is supposed to. Sometimes when I do a left-click it gives me an unwanted double-click, and sometimes it mistakes between left-click and right-click. I decided to try not to live with these, and hence called Lenovo support (UK) to request an on-site repair. The appointment was made for last Friday but on Friday I received a call from Lenovo saying that the appointment had to be canceled because the engineer is too busy to visit my place. I said that's fine let's do it on the next Wednesday. Then on the next Wednesday I received a call from Lenovo again saying that the LCD bezel is out of stock and they had to further delay it for another day. Finally a friendly engineer showed up and replaced my LCD bezel and the whole palmrest including the touchpad. The LCD bezel is much better now but still with a small gap. This is no problem as I can live with it. However the touchpad problem is still there - indicating that the unstable behavior of clicks is obviously not a hardware issue but a driver issue. Also, some other minor problems include fingerprint reader occassionally not working after resume from sleep or hibernate, sometimes blank screen after resume from sleep or hibernate, one CPU core is significantly hotter than the other when ... Hi allHas anyone else fallen fowl of the incompetent Steam technical support ? I have been asking for over 2 weeks snd submitted the Jpeg showing the serial number and Ticket number twice and still not had a resolution to a simple request for a change of email address and password reset - I will never buy a steam / Valve associated game again and wondered if there were any other PC gamers who have had similar or even the same problems with Steam accounts ? It has come to emailling Sega and Creative Assembly, who are yet to respond, regarding the problems I have had - this may get nowhere and Sega / CA may just say.......so ? but if this helps to stop someone else the frustration and delay I have experienced it will have been worth it. I really want to play napoleon too but due to Steam will buy another game from an alternative producer. if anyone else can suggest any other forum's to highlight this issue as a warning to other potential steam account users, please let me know and I will post there toocheersJohn

During 1 year I'm waiting for full XP drivers and utilites package for my A210-16G?, but it did not release!!!

I demand Clients support instead of Vista support!!!

Oh, moderators work more fast then toshiba notebook support =)))))

Answer:Satellite A210-16G (PSAELE) and full WXP support

Hello all,
I am considering moving everything over from Google Drive, email etc... But I can not determine whether OneDrive supports searching within files. That is full text search. I have uploaded a text file via the online interface, (a Markdown file) and it is not searched within, however a text file I created with the online editor was. Can you advise if this is a setting or something I am doing wrong? Or is it just not possible?
Thanks!

Answer:Does OneDrive support Full Text Search?

Looking at your question I was curious as well, so I tried to reproduce it, and found that I could quickly get results by using the 'Search All' function in One Drive. I went to my documents, but didn't open them and just plugged in random search terms to see what would come up. All worked fine, and searches went through the files as well as the folders.

I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazilīs support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

i currently have a dell Inspiron 5558 laptop for over an year now but the screen stop working over 6 months ago, i looked up the warranty information at the time of screen stopped working and was re-assured that it showed February 18, 2017 therefore i did not consider that it is very urgent to call tech support since i have other laptops. today when i call the support service, i was informed that product was not registered and i have to pay $233 to replace the LCD screen, they still argued that dell warranty website showed the correct information but when i looked it up, the website still displays the same.  did anyone else encounter this issue??
below is the warranty service which is still display at this time

Answer:Dell Warranty is reflecting incorrect data as per technical support and support manager

Was the system purchased direct from Dell, or at retail - or on EBay, Amazon, etc?

I keep receiving calls from fake MICROSOFT Tech support with various telephone numbers. Strange, they do not show up in my phone on line logs. They wanted me to go to FASTSUPPORT\763721586 ( do not use  these numbers). It is a company  called FASTSUPPORT.com. they also give you a complaint department where you can enter the number that you feel is causing you problems, the number of the LOGMEINRESCUE type remote access code. of course it is clear to them that you are suspicious and they will get rid of the  phone operator who didn't succeed. So do not bother to leave any complaint.

I have a T430s laptop and it is less than 6 months old. It starting getting blue screens within a month of purchasing it. Technical support has been helpless in trying to fix the laptop. First, tech support told me to turn update my computer daily. Then another tech support employee told me to turn OFF my auto updates. This did nothing and over a few weeks the blue screens progressively got worse. Next, tech support told me to run a diagnostic on my computer which turned up nothing. Then, they tried giving me recovery discs and a new hard drive. After that failed they took it in to replace the system board which made the blue screens worse. Then they sent me MORE recovery CDs to try to fix the problem and that also made the blue screens worse. I called tech support after this and they said they would send in a request for a replacement laptop. I was told I would hear from someone in a couple days. FIVE days later I got a called from someone asking if I wanted a replacement and I said yes. Then I was told I had to wait two more business days to get contacted about it. Another 3-4 business days later, someone called me to tell me that they would NOT be replacing the laptop despite the fact tech support could not fix the laptop. After calling tech support once again, I was told that they wanted me to send in my laptop again for up to 7 business days! This is completely unacceptable. I have had problems with this laptop almost the entire time I have owned it and no one knows... Read more

I have just sent a thinkpad back for repair for the first time in over 20 years of owning  Thinkpad.  I have had 8 thinkpad  series laptops in my time as well as a few desktops and now lenovo phones. I am absolutely horrified with the diabolical Thinkpad support. This is meant to be business level support. I feel like I am phoning up Curry's.  Laptop sent back with hard disk in it and I am being told now that it "turned up without a hard disk in it". Now undercurrent of me lying. Original problem had not been assessed and I still don't have my laptop back after 3 weeks. Customer service agents just tell you anything they want to get you off the phone. I suppose all things come to an end but my loyalty to the Thinkpad brand is probably over now.  I am sure I am not the first. Has anyone else come across this?

Answer:Terrible Thinkpad Support Premium Prices for Sub-Standard Support. Business users avoid now.

Oh, yes. I'm going through something similar over the last few weeks. Here is my thread on it.Been updating it every week. All I ever get is blown off no matter who I talk to. Good luck getting your situation resolved. I'm guessing it was sent to their depot in Tennessee?

Background pages in Google Chrome have been around for a while now, in the dev channel. While Google has provided some info, it's only now explaining in detail what the feature does and how it's useful. It's also making the functionality available to hosted apps, it has only been available for packaged apps and extensions so far.

"Apps and extensions that use the new 'background' feature can continue to run in the background?even if the user closes down all of Chrome?s windows," Andrew Wilson, Software Engineer and Michael Mahemoff, Developer Relations, wrote.

"These windows are not going to be visible but they will be able to perform tasks like checking for server-side changes and pre-emptively loading content into local storage," they explained.

I bought the upgrade version of Vista Ultimate last April, and upgraded it off of my existing BETA version of vista that was already on my computer. Everything so far works, but for the help/support function. When you buy the upgrade, does it use the roots of the original operating system already installed? If this is true then there must be other things that are still in 'beta form' (Which sucks because I freakin paid for the real thing)

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

We are Dell resellers and had placed an order for 43 Laptops - Dell Latitude 3560 with Dell on 13th June, 2016. We delivered them to our customer on Friday 17th June, 2016. On Monday 20th June we discovered that all the Laptops are faulty and are not functioning properly. They have not been able to use a single system due to touchpad issues in the entire lot
We have made innumerable calls Dell to resolve the problem, but the team is unable to identify and rectify the problem.
We have spoken to our partner account manager, regional account manager, Service Specialist and Escalation Team, requesting them to provide us with a solution at the earliest as their work is getting hampered. Our customer has to deploy the same by 1st July however they do not have any Dell Laptops functioning correctly.
How do we escalate this to the Dell management and get a replacement ASAP
Regards

I paid for 3 years of support and accidental damage in home support. Together, it cost around $400 on my new XPS laptop. Afew months after I bought XPS 15 9560, I pulled out the charging cord, and a round piece of plastic that was inside the port came out too.
I called technical support at 5 pm EST, and received someone in Southern India. I gave them my information, and they confirmed that I had service. They then fought with me for 15 minutes, telling me I could NOT have any in home service. The representative, who kept calling me by my first name (no respect)  said I had to send my laptop to a depot in Texas for them to identify the issue. Finally, after I insisted, the representative, S. Sirya Kiran, FINALLY allowed me to get in home support IF I sent him photos of the damage. I did. Finally, I received an email telling me to select a date for service, which I did, 12/18/17 between 9 am and 1:00 pm .
I took time off and waited. No one came by 11:30, or called. So I contacted World Wide Tech Services. They then told me they didn't have enough techs to handle my area, so they were NOT coming. I asked why no one gave me the courtesy of a phone call and they had no answer. They said a new company, Unisys, would contact me. (I doubt they ever will.)
Is this what Dell gives people for their money as far as support and accidental damage in home service for $400? This is an outrage.

Someone told me in another thread, and I also read here, that

All Wireless N routers support dual-band 802.11nClick to expand...

implying that any wireless N router can use the 5 GHz band as well as the 2.4 GHz band. Isn't that the implication?

Then why is it that when I browse routers, only some of them list both 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency, while others list only 2.4 in the specs? I want to switch my network over to 5 GHz in order to get away from all the interference I'm getting, as discussed in this thread.

So what's the real answer? Will any cheap "wireless N" router be able to do 5 GHz, (e.g. this one?) or do I need a more expensive dual band one?

Answer:Confused about router support for 5 GHz band. All wireless N routers support it??

No. The 802.11n standard supports 5GHz, but does not require it. Now if a device was 802.11ac, it will have a 5GHz radio since that standard only works on that freq.

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell Vostro 1700 with 3 gigs of memory. Vista is running well for every application except one. I have an old DOS program called Managing Your Money (MYM) that I have used for 15 plus years. I still like it and the program does everything that I need it to do. MYM is not supported any more but it still works. I had no problems in XP. I would go to the DOS command prompt, open the MYM application and hit alt/enter and it would open to full screen. In Vista, I do the same thing but when I hit alt/enter I get this message "This system does not support full screen mode." I have tried right clicking the command prompt and going to properties and layout and adjusting the size of the window but when I hit OK, it reverts back to what it was before which is about 1/3 of the screen. I have tried this site and many others for a fix but have not found it. I may have missed it but I am hoping that someone has an answer. Thanks!

It looks like ReFS will only be available for Windows 10 Pro....For Workstations....With the advent of the Fall Creators Update.

So I am sitting here on my MacBook Pro which in my opinion does not have any wireless issues whatsoever, it works. I still own this ThinkPad with a garbage wireless card, and I feasted my eyes on an Intel 7260 but lo and behold, it isn't on the whitelist! Scouring eBay and Amazon I did find a FRU, but would the number of that FRU be the same on the Hardware list? Lets see, well I cannot even find it. All I get are Page Not Found errors which to me is a hilarious joke of Lenovo's support. What does this mean for me? Is my X230 at a very very unnecessary end of life? Should I like, fork out Ģ1400 for an "upgraded" model that probably won't fix most of my problems? My problems is money and saving money. Should i now look elsewhere? No, because I'd rather keep my money to actually FIX my current laptop's problems (the N2200 is a garbage card and would like to replace it with something that's up to date to todays technology but that isn't happening by the sounds of it) I am frustrated with my current laptop's problems and it's having a large effect on my studies. And possibly you can also lose customers by inadequate non-existent support and failure to give us the freedom to actually let us upgrade for those who do. For those who don't, more like.

This is a General question regarding the end of support for XP. I realise at the end date the computer should be backed up in case you have to format the disc at any time after the end of the support period.

My question is does the built in Windows back up in XP when backing up the system include the installed updates? Or is it best to use third party software to do this.

Answer:[SOLVED] End ofThis is a general question regarding the end of support for XP support

I believe Windows just backs up your personal files and won't do the entire OS. You'll need a 3rd party program to do the entire HDD.

Also you really should think about upgrading to Windows 7. Staying on XP after the end support date is not recommended as you will lose security updates from Microsoft as well as patches.

New to these forums, so please be gentle.  I have recently purchased a Lenovo X220 ThinkPad and I am really happy with it. However, I cannot get the ExpressCard slot to work though. No matter what I do. I have tried: Ubiquiti SR71C & D-Link AirPremier AG (DWL-AG660) Carbus(s).  After putting the card in, there is no detection of the new hardware. I am unsure if the ExpressCard slot is not working as the Cardbus that I have tried unsuccessfully with the Lenovo work in a Toshiba. Is there something that I need to change in BIOS or through Windows?Any help would be appreciated. Is this hardware compatible (?)I am trying to increase the receive range of wireless networks by using external antenna connected to either of the above cardbus. I have a USB alternative (Ubiquiti) which I have not tried yet as I am stumped on this Expresscard slot and Id like to get it going. Thanks in advance.

Answer:X220 i7 - ExpressCard Slot

Try this: In BIOS, go to Config > Power > ExpressCard Speed. Change the setting to Gen 1.

Has anyone done any benchmarks or testing of the internal USB 3.0 port on the Core i7 builds of the x220 laptops?  I am curious how that compares vs. going the ExpressCard route.

Hi all,  I want to purchase a 64GB SD Card (SDXC Class 10 or UHS I or II) but I want to be sure it matches the speed class that the Spectre 360 (2016 skylake model) supports. The manuals do not specify this. Thanks.

I have a 54mm dual USB 3.0 Expresscard. I have updated to the latest firmware and driver from Renesas. I should mention that the card works great. Problem:When putting the computer to sleep without a USB drive attached to the Expresscard, upon resume from sleep I can hear the "hardware disconnect" sound, and the Expresscard is no longer found under connected devices. The mouse and sound will start lagging very badly as a result of disconnecting the card like this. A reboot fixes the problem. I initally had this problem when a USB drive was connected as well. However, I was able to fix that by turning off USB selective suspend. However, when no USB device is connected to the Expresscard it will disconnect. I should also mention that disconnecting the Expresscard using the proper unmounting method through the system tray, no lag occurs. So it seems like after returning from sleep the Expresscard gets disconnected without unmounting. Is there a way to force the Expresscard to always stay connected even when waking up from sleep? Or could it be the card that fails to wake up again? I would assume no signlas are being sent to the Expresscard when no USB device is detected (hence turning off USB selective suspend doesn't matter) and that is why it doesn't start.

1. Does the x220 thinkpad support SATA III 6Gb/s for the mSATA slot or through the 2.5" drive?2. If so, is it possible to connect the mSATA via PCIe in a way it will support 6Gb/s ?2. Is the mSATA limited to 80GB capacity as said here:"80GB mSATA SSD fits in the WWAN slot. As a result, it is not available with WWAN"( from http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/ww/wci/us/ww/pdf/X220_datasheet.pdf ) I haven't encountered any official answer throughout the web. I would really appreciate one. Very thanks.Avi

Answer:X220 mSATA, SSD & ExpressCard Questions

Good day and welcome to the community.

1- The mPCIe slot that can accept either WWAN cards or mSATA SSDs is limited to SATA II (3Gb/s).
2- Not that I know of or have ever heard reported. SATA III is supported on the main bay and the dock connectors.
3- I, and others, are running 256GB mSATA SSDs quite successfully. My X220 hasn't stuttered once in over 2 years.

Hope this helps.
Regards.

Hi there, I have a good chance to buy a Thinkpad X220 with Core i5-2410m CPU, no other CPU options as of now. Intel says the processor supports 5GT/s DMI and PCI Express 2.0. The question is, does the ExpressCard slot of that Core i5-2410m version of X220 is really a PCI-E 2.0 and supports 5GB transfer rate? I'm asking here because support didn't give me any reasonable response and hope someone here has an answer to this question. I'm planning to use the slot to hook up my external video card.  Thanks in advance.

Is the ExpressCard slot on the X220 Tablet 2.0 or not? I have looked at the new Lenovo Tabook PDF and all it specified was that it was compatable with both the 34mm and 54mm slot standards. I wish to buy a USB 3.0 ExpressCard but only if I know the slot on the X220 Tablet can provide the full throughput of an ExpressCard 2.0 slot.

Every time I find the key to success, someone changes the lock.

Hi All, I'm enjoying my first ever thinkpad X220 for the last couple of months and love it. It's beautiful and powerful machine. The machine is top of the line in x220 series. The only thing missing is an SSD. 1. System has Ericsson GSM/GPS card. So, does this mean I cannot install mSATA?2. I would like to replace my HDD with SSD. What other SSDs other than lenovos any of you have successfully tested and using? lenovo SSDs are **bleep** expensive.3. What 54mm expresscardis are useful for me? I would like to increase storage. What brand/models do you recommend? I too have noticed the screen light bleeding. It's not bugging me much. But I've seen many complaining about this. Is there a resolution to this problem? Thanking you in advance. regards,Shereef

Answer:X220 mSATA, SSD & ExpressCard Questions

Hello,

The X220 has two MiniPCIe slots, one accepts a "full-height" card that is ~51mm long.  The other accepts a "half-height" card that is ~28mm long.  In the X220, the half-height slot contains the Wi-Fi (802.11n wireless) adapter, while the full-height slot contains the WWAN (3G modem) adapter.

The full-height slot on the X220 is designed to acccomodate either a MiniPCIe or a mSATA card.  I do not know whether the half-height slot will recognize a mSATA card.  If you wish to use a mSATA SSD in your X220, you will need to remove the Ericsson GSM/GPS card.  You could then use something like a 3G hotspot for connectivity.

The X220 has a 2.5" hard disk drive bay, but this bay only accepts a 7mm high drive, not the more common 9.5mm high drives.  There are, however, numerous hard disk (up to 500GB, 7200 RPM) and solid state drives (up to 600GB) that fit into the drive bay.  I have not used a 7mm high SSD before, but did see a few for sale on U.S. retailer NewEgg's web site.

I have used a Wintec 48GB ExpressCard SSD in my W510 for storage and it worked fine, although it did get warm after being in the system for a while.  64 ,96 and 128GB models are now available as well.  I would imagine these work identically in the X220, though I do not think they are bootable.  These are 34mm cards, so you might want to get a little plastic spacer bracket that fills the remaining 20mm if having that open is an iss... Opera Software has just released the first beta version of Opera 11.10 Barracuda. Users who have followed the development on the Opera Desktop team blog know that Barracuda introduces several new features. The feature that has been talked about the most is the new and improved Speed Dial display on new tab pages.

Speed Dial fits the browser window dynamically now to make use of all the free space. Add to that the removal of the hard limit of Speed Dial entries and you got a dynamic listing of all your favorite sites on the new tab page.Click to expand...

I have a Thinkpad T450s and it is just over a year old. It still has 3 more years of warranty. Edit: Warranty type: TPJ (This product has a four year limited warranty which includes a warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and is entitled to Depot service).Recently the lenovo solution center gave an critical error for the HDD (Read test failure) and I submitted an online request reporting it. Without even sending me an email or contacting me, they sent me a new part and gave me zero information about it. Apparently every other person can replace a HDD now!  I have created 3 more cases calling their tech support to send the laptop for a depo repair. Everytime the request is rejected 'at the vendor' according to the customer care. Neither the customer care people or tech support can tell me why. Every time they create a new case, tell me I will receive a depo bag nect day, and I dont receive anything, have to call depo customer care and on hold for minimum 40 minutes, only to hear that the case has been rejected they dont know why.One tech support told me now I have to send the new part back before creating a new case, otherwise it will be rejected again. but he does not know how I can send the new part back. The return label sent to me was for the faulty HDD.Can anyone help? What is the point of paying for warranty if I receive this type of service?

Answer:HORRIBLE tech support and warranty support

You do not state which type of warranty you currently have, there are a few which will affect how TS will or can respond. I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction...

Some how my old friend managed to upgrade my PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 with that chipset driver CD I gave him. I don't know how he did it. I would ask him but he moved to Germany. Answer:Motherboard support CD does not support your operating system

Download the drivers from the manufacturers website. The driver CD is likely outdated anyway.

Hi Vens1000,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

You can check with updating latest graphic driver from Lenovo support site, or else run ThinkVantage system update utility to check for latest driver automatically.
Is the system shipped with dual graphic adapter (Intel & Nvidia)?

Note: before updating the driver please uninstall the current driver from Control panel ? Program and feature option.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi

Running a Portege R930-1d0 through High speed port replicatior II.
Is it possible to output to dual displays?

Thanks

Answer:Portege R930-1D0 + High speed port replicator II - dual monitor support

By ?dual display? do you mean the internal + external display or do you mean two external monitors?
The Hi speed port replicator II supports the RGB port as well as the display port and HDMI port but both (display port and HDMI) cannot be used simultaneously.

You can use the internal notebook?s HDMI port and for example one of the Hi speed port replicator II ports to connect another external monitor.

Hi Dell
My PC Dell Aurora R4 won't update properly due to it not being on the list of windows 10  creator supported drivers PC from dell. Does anyone one know if dell is going to correct this matter.
This is urgent as this leaves me as a customer vulnerable, due to the W10 System of queuing downloads and there is a security one that is waiting.
I have checked directly with Microsoft Technicians and they confirm this is the issue "No Driver support for Aurora R4 Listed, W10  Creators edition. Can dell Update an then inform us a the machines cost a pretty penny and are meant to be future proofed with drivers even without a warranty. Thank you. I think the revamped Support Assistant is brilliant - especially for drivers where it checks your PC, rather than give you a list of driver updates for your model, as the old website-based Driver Update checker did. It has an "Add a device" facility but it doesn't find my HP DCP_J315W printer, connected via wireless. Does Support Assistant support printers? edited 08:07: typo

Dell Support "Assist" just ran without giving me an option to stop, pause, or control in anyway.  It was using nearly all computer resources (I could barely save the word document I had open at the time).  This isn't "assist" more like computer take over.

How can I control the S. "Assist"?  How can I adjust the time between it's runs (currently it looks like monthly)?  After finishing it's scan or whatever it finally closed (cuz it wouldn't close the 20 times or so I clicked the "X").  I then opened it, looking for some results of the scan, and found none.  How can I view results?

Right now, seems like worthless bloatware.

Also, there is not a [New Post] button on the Laptop Forum (at least for me).

I purchased the Lenovo brand because it offered many more features then the competitors within the price range we needed.  My son needed it for school so of course we went with the i7 processor because we were told it was the best and wanted to ensure we didn't have an outdated computer within the next few years when our other children would begin to use it.

Our computer is not charging and I have contacted every department I could think of and was referred to some others along the way.  I am very stressed and upset on how my problem/question is being handled.  I was hoping to get everything resolved before school starts again on Jan 3rd so my son doesn't fall behind.

My new one came and the start date of warranty was 10/6/2010.  A few months in I called in again for the blue system screen and was told I had to restore my computer with the restore button which I did even though I lost all of my work and applications.
