How to order replacement keyboard OR how to get hold of Support?

Question: How to order replacement keyboard OR how to get hold of Support?

After a little consideration, my loose space key is not bothering me that much. But my "e" key has started to squeek. It is getting so bad that when i use the X220 to take notes during meetings, people smirks and silently laughs. It's getting kind of annoying. So!I've been browsing through the forums and the lenovo.com page but still can't figure this out:Is there a way I can actually talk/write with a real live human being and explain my situation? I want them to send me a keyboard as I'm pretty sure I can replace it myself, the manual and videos are great. My other option is to use a local company for the job, and that means I'll be without a computer for a week or so, and I'd really like to avoid that. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just called the IBM/Lenovo parts department and tried to order a replacement heatsink for my T60 (the fan in mine is getting pretty noisy). I opened up the machine and compared it with the pictures in the HMM and the FRU is 41W0467. I tried looking this up on their parts website (not found) and then called 877-719-0841 and they just told me the part number is invalid. The parts line person told me to call tech support and gave me their number. I called and gave them the machine serial number and they told me they couldn't help me because the machine was out of warranty. They refused to even check if the FRU was valid, much less help me find an alternative p/n "because the machine is out of warranty". He kept saying it was a company policy that they would provide no information for an out-of-warranty machine. I asked if he worked for Lenovo or IBM and he said both. I asked to talk to the guy's manager and he said there was no manager for out of warranty machines and then he hung up on me. Amazing. I'm actually glad I called so I could see just how bad things have gotten. I was starting to think about a W520, but now once my T60 finally dies I'm done with Lenovo for good.

Answer:T60: Try to order a replacement heatsink - horrible Lenovo support

jayk, welcome to the forum,

Obviously not a pleasant experience.

If you could post the Type and Model Number of your system members will be able to check the part number you need. I personally suspect you may have a typo there and might be looking for 41W6047, you'll need to scroll down a little.

Answer:where/how to order replacement T500 keyboard??

tlyczko,What's wrong with your T500 keyboard? Crumb cancer? To answer your question, there are traditionally three vendors of ThinkPad keyboards, Alps Electric, Chicony, and NMB. Damage aside, if you like your current keyboard's action and want the identical unit as a replacement, you need to identify its part number (actually, its "FRU" (field-replacement unit) number. You can ID your specific keyboard model by following the procedure for auto-detecting your machine and then clicking on "View parts lookup results for this system:"http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=HOME-LENOVO#rdtThe FRU number for your T500 keyboard, as built, is likely one of these:#42T4002 (Alps Electric)#42T4066 (Chicony)#42T3937 (NMB)You should also download the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) for your machine so you can observe the correct procedure for keyboard replacement (among many important tutorials). Get it here:http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6630_04.pdfIf, before replacing your keyboard, you want to explore the "Zen" of each vendor's product (and they are indeed subtly different), do a search of this forum and others (especially, http://forum.thinkpads.com/). There's a rich history of pros, cons and "war stories" for each vendor over many generations of ThinkPad.When you're ready to purchase, enter the FRU number here:http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?promoName=pa... Hello HP Forums, I purchased an HP Envy X2 (model number : 15t-c0) in 2015, and the keyboard went out about a year later. The keyboard would not charge. Therefore, I purchased a brand new replacement keyboard (spare part number: 783099-001) that is the same exact type of keyblard that came with the original laptop, and I purchased this replacement keyboard from the JP Parts store on 7/20/2016. Now this keyboard has stopped working due to the same issue. The keyboard will not charge when connected to the display. In an attempt to troubleshoot my issue, I have reinstalled the drivers and tried manipulating the angle of the charging interface with the kyboard and the laptop charging port. Lastly, I used a voltmeter to test the output on the keyboard charging interface and the laptop charging port; the laptop charging port had a voltage output whereas the keyboard interface essentially had none. Therefore, I have concluded the problem lies with the charging interface\battery of the keyboard. Furthermore, there is no identifying serial number on the keyboard other than an RFID pattern. All that is given outside of the spare part number: 783099-001 and model number: KBBT9881 are the CAN ICE, FCC, IC and SCT identification numbers. I have spent a lot of time trying to find where the serial number on this keyboard, and I am having no luck whatsoever. Furthermore, I cannot find a way to locare the serial number through system properties from the display. ... Read more

Answer:Must hold down ALT key to use laptop keyboard

Try a system restore to a date when it works correctly. If this does not help, try updating your drivers from mfg's website. You may have somehow set an 'accessability feature' in a funny way (does that actually make it an unacessability feature) so you can look through any features relating to your keyboard and see if you find something there that might help. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

My X61 which is still under warranty has several issues, so I send it to lenovo to repair, the case # is CNTPWFJ.Two days ago I got a phone call from lenovo, the representative told me that all of my laptop's issues are not covered by my warranty, i questioned about that and she asked me to expect her call later .  Until today my service request status is still showing Billable Hold and no call from the representative. One problem of X61 is the fan. At first it was noisy, then it stopped working.  i was using the laptop under regular home environment, i think this problem should be covered by the warranty. The second problem is several days ago  I was typing and the "W" on the keyboard just came off, and part of the plastic tab on the bottom of the key that attaches it to the keyboard broke. I did nothing wrong about this, so this problem also should be covered. Finally the laptop also has two small cracks on frame of PC card slot . The system has not been physically damaged in any way (dropped, liquid spill, etc.). So I think this problem is due to thin of plastic and age of plastic and also should be covered. Due to the fan issue, I can't start the laptop, when it is powered on, the screen shows fan error , then shut down automatically. I think at least lenovo should solve the fan problem for me, so i can continue using my laptop. It's already three days since they received my lap... Read more

I have searched across this site and other forums and have yet to find a solid answer to this question even though numerous users are having the same issue. This keyboard has worked fine for me for about two years, but now all of a sudden it will not hold a charge.  Even after turning the keyboard off, plugging into the tablet for 24 hours, and then turning back on, the keyboard only works for about five minutes.   I can only assume that this is an issue with the power going from the tablet to the keyboard, but when trying to update any drivers related to batteries or the keyboard it says I already have the latest driver.  Please help because I'm essentially stuck with only using a tablet for a computer as of right now.

So i got a Lenovo G505s today and i've seen a lot of posts of people saying they can't use the keyboard and the trackpad at the same time. I had this problem but fixed it by uninstalling the ELAN driver which came pre-installed. My problem is not the trackpad but the mouse buttons and cannot find a forum with this topic. It is stopping me from being able to play most games as most need the keyboard and mouse to be pressed down at the same time and am yet t find a solution for this. When i fixed the keyboard and trackpad issue I also went into the registry and changed the value of the disable when typing from 1 to 0. Any help would be hugely appreciated as it is very frustrating.

Answer:Can't hold down a keyboard key and click mouse button at the same time

Having done a bit more research and attempting to fix this myself, it is only the left mouse button and the double tapping the track pad (alternate left mouse button) that do not work, the right mouse button is fine. Again, any help is hugely appreciated because i'm so confused right now

To test, a BSOD writes the MEMORY.DMP file, I need a key combination. For a manually initiated BSOD I must hold the right STRG and press 4x SCROLL. The G580 doesn´t have a SCROLL key.  Press the fn key and the INSERT key should give the SCROLL function. But for a manually initiated BSOD this doesn´t work. Where is the right SCROLL key on the G580 keyboard?

Answer:Hold right Strg + press 4xScroll - how to do it on the G580 keyboard

hi czer27,

Upon checking the German keyboard - part# 25201829 using this link, it appears that there's no single key for the scroll lock.

In this article, it's stated that you need to enable first the registry key (or apply this Microsoft hotfix) and hold down Right Ctrl key and hit Scroll Lock twice to manually trigger the BSOD. If you have already done this, try to:

1. Change the keyboard layout to english and try to manually trigger the BSOD.
2. Use a program called Sharpkeys to remap a key to function as a Scroll Lock (without pressing the Fn+Insert).

Give it a shot - Map Any Key to Any Key on Windows 7 / XP / Vista (works also in Windows 8)

QuoteIt has a 39pin connector and a 4 pin connector with an 8 pin between the4 and 39 pin connectors. That ''8 pin'' sounds like your jumper setting pins.  Should be a diagram on HDD label to show jumper options using a jumper connector. .... often no jumper connector can mean master. The multi pin connection you describe should be EIDE and the 4 pin other the power connector. The ''newer'' SATA data connection is small and very different and does not use the ribbon type cable - and the power connector (plug) is not the semi clear plastic with two blacks and yellow and red.

Where can I get a decently priced and reliable screen?  Acer wanted almost the cost of the laptop to replace the screen. When we sent it in they said they wouldn't cover it as it had been dropped.  We bought it from Shoppers Drug Mart on sale with saved Shoppers points (the fact it was from Shoppers should have been the first clue not to buy it!) and it has sat on the same desk since we bought it.

Obviously we cannot prove this so, they would not cover it under the warranty.  We will NEVER buy a prodcut from this company again.  I've never had issues with having items replaced or fixed under warranty.  There are some honest people out there (that would be ME) who would not lie about something like this just to get it fixed for free.

Why would I be willing to pay for a screen, for most likely the same price as ACER was going to charge us, if I was lying???  It's the principal now. I refuse to ever purchase pieces of ACER junk again.

When I go throught the ordering options for the T410 (on the Canadian site), after the "System components" when I click "Continue", I'm taken to the Services and software page which is blank except for the "Continue" Button.  There are no options for what support/warranty to choose at all.  What's up?  Anybody else see this?  Are the options just being updated and that's causing a problem or is there something more going on?  Anyone know?

Answer:What's up with T410 order - no support options

i had the same thing happen.  i'm guessing it's only a 1-year option on the warranty.  you might want to give them a call to clarify.  (pls. post their response if you do.)

Hello, I am hoping someone could help me with this issue. I am not sure if I am posting in the right section of the forum so forgive me if i am not. I am using a compaq laptop with windows 7 for an OS. The G, H, 8, and backspace keys decided to stop working. For some reason the only way to get any of those buttons to work is if you put on CAPS lock and hold shift. Then you can use those keys. Im not sure if any other keys have been affected as of yet. Ive tried to google for a solution, which normally helps me fix any computer issues I come accross. So far I can only find the reccomendation to hold the function button and press numlock, and its supposed to remove the, "sticky keys." I am not quite sure what exactly the sticky keys are but I didnt think it was the problem here, and the laptop doesnt seem to have a function button anyways. I have seen the option to turn on sticky keys when holding shift on other computers or tapping shift 8 times, I dont know if it was turned on or if sticky keys cause certain keys to not work unless you hold shift while CAPS lock is on, but if this sounds like something you can help with please advise me of any suggestions. I appreciate any time you take to help or even if youve read this far. Thank you

Answer:Certain keyboard keys not working unless you press caps lock and hold shift?

First thing you do is get a canned air and clean out the keyboard... slowly, carefully, then do it again with the laptop upside down. That rules out the most common cause... dirt, dust, and debris.

A while ago i had to disassemble a lenovo x100e to replace the LCD panel, which turned out fine. But being the inexperienced schmuck that I am, I had no idea how to remove the cable that attaches the keyboard to the mobo as well as the cable for the vga port from the motherboard. By the time I was done with it, I broke off the plastic flap that holds down the cable in the motherboard.  My solution for the last year or so was to stuff some folded paper in the region to help hold the cables against the pins on the motherboard, but it has been driving me craaaazy. The contact is crappy so the trackpad works intermitently and the external monitor changes colors when i apply the slightest pressure to the keyboard.  I was wondering If you guys could advise a fix. Are there replacement parts? is there a better way to secure it?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I did some research and found the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your system. Unfortunately, there are not replacement parts for that particular clip. I did a little looking around the web and found this article that may help. You could try the suggestions there, though I would be careful if you try the tape method.

Hope it helps,
Adam

So, I didn't know where else to go to ask this question, so I put it here.  If you know the answer in a different forum page, please let me know. The hard drive to my HP crashed and I recently purchased a new one.  I have gotten to the point where I am going to need to obtain a new OS for it. I made it to the HP website, to the "HP Support - Order software and driver media" page to purchase the software/driver that I need for it.  I would like to purchase it, but it seems that the website will not accept my Serial Number.  It's nothing complex; it simply won't let me type it in.  I am able to put in my information on the other bars (name, address, etc.), but won't for that line.  Does anyone know how to fix this issue?  I'm worried that it's going to tell me that there aren't any more left, which would be awful, and I'm hoping that it's just a webpage bug.  If anyone could help, that would be great.

Hello!
So I just ordered a Dell XPS 15 and got the confirmation email and everything. When I try to click on see order status a blank page shows up, when I try to search by the Internet Receipt Number, nothing is found. I tried calling Dell Norway several times, but a automatic voice machine say I should go to the website for answers or chat with Dell. When I open a chat no one there is willing to help me and are giving me a email to a 3rd party shop that sells Dell computers, but they can't help me because I didn't place a order with them.
I'm getting so frustrated with this I'm considering canceling my order!!

Answer:Dell customer support can't find my order and no one is helping me!!

Hi ALEXANDERAHLSEN,
Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum.
Please private message us the Internet Receipt Number along with your email id and we will check on the status of this order.

Usually the upgrade from a normal keyboard to backlit keyboard should not be a big problem if there is an additional connector on mainboard for such a backlit keyboard.
If such additional connector is not available, then you will NOT be able to use the backlight keyboard.

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

Hi there, The screen dezel for my 420 has a crack. Apparently my warranty does not cover it. Even worse, I am unable to order that part trough the Lenovo site or the service centers in the Netherlands. Can anyone point me to a location where i can order this part?  And Lenovo, why is this so difficult for laptops still under warranty? Thanks AJ Verboon

My laptop got wet (water).. At first only one key was not working.
It got worse when i tryed to fix it I put it under a fan and it made most keys not respond
some keys were working but i decided to change the keyboard.
( i didnt power it off and just used a usb keyboard)

I have replaced the keyboard from ebay
My question is about the back lit strip.
My old keyboard; had a ribben cable coming out to LED light node and additional black plastic wraping on the backside of keyboard.
I broke the ribben from the old keyboard ( no not the regular ribben cable )
I reconnected the new keyboard which; did not have led lights or black plastic
I go into keyboard on control pannel and it says my keyboard is connected (1 to usb & 2 to the computers port Standard P/S2 keyboard& is working fine
.( it isnt working at all)
Does my laptop need to have the led circuit connected?
is it a loop to the keyboard ribben ( which i have connected)

I have talked to someone who believes this is for led(s) and all that is uncommon on non-backlit keyboards and should not be necessary for the keyboard to work and we believe its only lighting.
keyboard to turn on but I am missing a ribben connection to this extra strip of LED lights and what else ?

Should i order a plastic led light strip and stick it to my new keyboard to match the original
Do i need to complete the circuit where the led ribben was connected as it is a loop or safety feature or to complete the circuit
is there any chance i bl... Read more

Since you have not received any suggestions till now.

I will say ebay is the best place, not sure why it is not available in Malaysia.

Also, if you cannot find a vendor I will say that it is only a cosmetic effect, better with a cosmetic defect than a functional one while replacing the key.

I tried to order a DVD/ODD bezel as well as the rails w. screws which secure it when loaded into the bay. The tech support person with whom I spoke was rude and condescending beyond belief and just repeated the script "I hope your experience with Lenovo tech support exceeded your expectations; have a nice day" and hung up on me. If anyone has ordered these parts and can comfirm the FRU numbers, please post them here. If anyone from Lenovo lurks on these forums and does anything to actually help users rather than just deleting critical posts, the case number in question is A062FC7. Hi, When I ordered on Dec. 2007 the Recovery Disk for my Lenovo 3000 J115 desktop had to call 1-800-426-7378. Don?t remember the prompts, but found a rep that transferred me to what appeared to be the right department. May want to make sure you specify that it is for a Desktop or you?ll get bounced around to other departments, like I did. I gave the 1st rep all my info including model #, name, address, serial code, etc?, to place order, then at the end he asked if it was laptop and I said no and he had to transfer me to the desktop department & I had to start all over with the order.  Would like to have been able to order it online, but that option did not appear to be available. It was out of warranty when I purchased it so it cost around $60 with shipping. Now on a related note, my chance to vent about the 1st time I tried to order the recovery disk. 1st a little background info. Purchased my Lenovo 3000 J115 Nov. 2006. It was installed with Windows XP and had a voucher to purchase Vista upgrade, when Vista was released, which I did. Vista arrived around Feb. 2007, & I promptly installed it. So far so good. March 2007 purchased music equipment specifically Digidesign hardware with Pro Tools software to use with my new Lenovo computer.  I know comp. may not be built for that, but I?m just getting into music software editing. Unfortunately Pro Tools software was not compatible with Vista, no problem I thought, I?ll just Call Lenovo & order reco... Read more

Any ideas

I've been noticing lately that I'm experiencing minor keyboard issues. It seems that if I type fast, the keyboard doesn't register all of the strokes in the correct order. When I type all of the letters that I type show up, but they sometimes end up in the incorrect order. For example, I might be attempting to type: " try looking here <enter>you might find it . . ." This results in:"try looking her <enter>eyou might find it . . ." I understand that human error is a possibility here, and were this simply two letters transposed, I wouldn't be posting. However, this is three keystrokes registering out of order -- the "e", the space, and the enter. I've had similar issues occur over the past few days now. Many of them seem to involve space or enter. Is anyone else having these problems or are there any ways to try to fix these? I've heard that similar problems on other machines have been solved with driver issues.

Answer:Keyboard Lag / Strokes Out of Order

Your BIOS is up to date, right?I still feel like the keyboard is jumbling some of my keystrokes sometimes... Maybe it's the ALPS keyboard...Maybe it's that original keyboard scanning issue that they were supposed to have fixed in the xx10 series.Maybe they just applied a hacked on patch for the issue and called it a day.I do miss my T400 keyboard...

Hi,I have a X61s from Hong Kong and I would like to buy a Swedish keyboard for it instead of the UK/CH one. I have a looked at the following page http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-62916.htmlThere are two options, 39T7272 (NMB) and  42T3077 (Chicony). What is the difference? Which one is the right one for me?Best RegardsJorge

Answer:Order Keyboard for X61s

They are made to the same spec by two different manufacturers.I've used ThinkPads equipped with both and I can't say I can tell the difference. I also adjust quickly to new keyboards. There are however those who prefer one or the other. My suggestion is to determine whether your current UK/CH keyboard is NMB or Chicony (remove it and read the part number off the bottom), and get the same or different replacement depending on your preference.Message Edited by bananaman on 06-03-2008 06:42 AM

Hi guys, So I took my laptop out of my bag about a week ago and found this:http://imgur.com/HIRHJ(I took the photo today, I've been too busy to deal with the issue for the past week but I've played around with it now.) As you can see on the screen, there is a large crack across the top right (which I have no clue where it came from, considering I had nothing in my bag but the laptop and my bag was never impacted in any way). Most importantly, however, no image is displayed, which renders my laptop unusable as a laptop (and I desperately need it for uni, fortunately this past week was a break but now I am without a laptop to take notes in...) Plugging in the laptop to an external monitor works fine as expected, however, so does the digitizer pen. i.e. if I wave my pen above the broken screen, it appears to work perfectly on the duplicated external monitor, clicking and all. So, my guess is that all I need to do is replace the screen, right? According to the manual, http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60175_04.pdf (where mine is 4294-CTO), the LCD panel I want is 04W1545. I've found one for $175 which is great, but when I asked if the place could also replace the screen for me, they said it would no longer be a tablet. They said they "think I might need to get the full screen + digitizer for $650 + installation" which is utterly ridiculous, considering that's nearly the price I paid for the laptop. What I wa... Read more

Answer:Screen replacement - digitizer support

replacing the Tablet LCD is a very expensive exercise, since there is also a digitizer layer involved. Try calling Lenovo warranty service, and ask about aftermarket parts sale, and specifically request the parts . But it won't be cheap, around the price that you have been quoted for the full repair. If you are worried about cost, then you should probably sell your current laptop for parts or as it is. And then get another X220t.

Aftermarket parts for the X220t screen assembly isn't widely available, so this drives up the price of available parts. From the picture, you got the X220i Tablet, which is not sold in Australia.

Just a little vent about my frustrations with the elusive Slovakian complaint management support team. Background: I had a problem that has been documented several times before: http://tinyurl.com/w530gah. I'd already had the screen and motherboard replaced, but the problem persisted, so I opened up a support claim. I'd upgraded a few of the parts of the machine but the original parts were at my home in Germany. At the time I was in the UK for my mother's funeral and expected to be there for about 2 weeks after the claim was opened. 4th March - I open a claim. 6th March - I realize that some of the original parts from my machine are back in Germany and let the support team know this. 10th March - They reply and say I will need it in it's original state before I can return it. For the following 2 weeks I email support with possible dates for me to have everything together. No reply. 23rd March - Back in Germany for about a week by this time, I am contacted by the courier company to say they can pick it up on the 27th March. 27th March - They pick it up. I assume that it is clear that I am now back in Germany, due to support knowing that I had to go back there to retrieve the original parts and also having it picked up from there. 29th March - I move from Berlin to Leipzig and email support with my new home address. April 1st - Email from support to say that the ETA for the replacement is 6th April. Hello, I'm very interested in buy a HP Spectre x360 15 (such as "HP Spectre x360 15-bl001na") with US Keyboard Layout, not the UK one.Is there any chance to buy it? I live in Germany. Alternatively, since I ALREADY have the same laptop BUT with UK layout, and since I see the difference between the two layout (UK and US) is about 6 keys, I would be very grateful to who can suggest me how to find those 6 US layout keyboard keys.I'm definitely able to replace them, it is very easy with this kind of keyboard. Thank you very much, hope you can help me,Lorenzo

Answer:how can I order a HP Spectre x360 with US keyboard layout?

The keys themselves are not exactly the same. The shape and size of keys in various locations is not the same. And on this model the keyboard is only provided as a spare part as a component of the whole top cover and replacement is extremely difficult. Do you maybe have a friend or relative in the US who could buy it for you. How about ebay DE or UK? There are some US sellers who also ship overseas and maybe even a German or UK reseller who has US units available. HP very strictly channels specific product into specific countries so HP only sells German units in Germany.

I made the mistake of vacuuming my Satellite 1800-814 keyboard a year or so ago.

Astonished myself at how easy it was to suck the letter "T" right off!!!

Found it again after rummaging dustily through the Dyson "cyclone" residue and got it re-attached - after a fashion - to the keyboard using two small flat white plastic clip-on inserts, but I suspect there's a bit I didn't find as the bottom of the letter lifts up without hindrance.

Is there somewhere you can get just the (bits of) letters or would I have to buy a whole new keyboard? If the whole keyboard, would it have to be from a Service Partner or what?

Hello,I have a wonderfull G50-45 laptop with very good LCD display (worst decision I have ever made as from another discussion I relaised its the **bleep**test possible display due to make more profit by Leovo). I found some keyboards around in different sites, I need one as mine is german by default. Can I replace the existing keyboard with backlit one. Does this laptop motherboard support backlit feature?

Answer:G50-45 Keyboard replacement with back-lit keyboard???

hi rockstardmtb,

For a backlit keyboard to work, the following must be met:
1. A compatible backlit-type keyboard (must be listed in the maintenance manual).
2. The motherboard must have a keyboard power connector (to enable the backlight).
    - Link to picture
    - Link to picture

Looking at the keyboard spare parts for the G50-45 (see page 84-85 of the HMM), this unit uses a non-backlit type keyboard (it also doesn't have any spare parts for backlit keyboards).

In addition, there's also no keyboard power connector on the motherboard to power up a backlit keyboard so this means the unit isn't capable of using a backlit keyboard.

hi all, i am just wondering if that is possible because i think it must be something with the design of the t510 since my friend has a t420 and his keyboard feels great. unfortunately this t510 (and for the record i had 3 keyboard replacements) and each of the keyboard felt good initially but after some usage, the keys themeslves felt more resistant to press down. Either I am crazy but i feel that my keyboard goes through phases...where before at first the keys are extremely hard to depress and after a while the keys get really easy to depress and after while of typing on that keyboard it slowly the keys starts to get harder to depress down. It is really hard to believe but it is true. Might be a defect in the t510 keyboard or i am just so unlucky to get the same problem 3 times in a row with these replacement keyboards. lol thanks

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:is it possible to order a t520 keyboard for a thinkpad t510 laptop

The keyboard on T510, T520, X220, T410, T420, T410s, T420s, T400s, W510, W520 are all intercompatible. So the answer to your question is yes.

Just look for the Part number of the keyboard under the keyboard.

What you describe is possible, as initially the various plastic mechanism has not worn in, once it is worn in to the optimal point, the key will feel easier to type on. But as you use it more, the key mechanism will eventually wear out and create the difficulties you explain.

Just like car engine, there is a wear in period for the engine parts after which the car engine will feel smoother and eventually it will wear out.

P.S. But what you describe will only be noticeable for people whom constantly type on their keyboard at a very fast rate.

I called lenovo on November 4th for two separate issues: one for an SL400, which had lines on the bottom of the screen, and another for an SL410 for a replacement DVD burner. for the SL400 i would assume that the screen would have to be replaced, and it was sent in. this is what has happened:HP11/11/2011 02:14:07EHold for Parts - Service call is on hold until parts arrive. 11/11/2011 02:14:07HP11/09/2011 14:40:34EHold for Parts - Service call is on hold until parts arrive. 11/09/2011 14:40:34OS11/09/2011 08:24:00EMachine being repairedAK11/04/2011 16:12:00ECarrier processing request to ship containerAK11/04/2011 14:16:17ECarrier processing request to ship containerParts provided may be new or serviceable used parts.  and it's simply stuck there. I had an X61 at lenovo for two months, and they wouldn't do anything about it. does lenovo just not have any parts available? I was told this would take around 6 (business, i assume) days to repair and get back to me.as for the DVD burner, absolutely nothing has happened either. I also have a case number for it, but the ezserv website doesn't show anything. the support person said I should have received the drive by Nov 8.

Answer:SL400/SL410 slow support for replacement parts

lenovo said they are out of DVD burners that will fit an SL410 (which would probably include the SL/L510 and L410). the guy on the phone tried to order another one, and said to call again by monday/tuesday if nothing happens.the SL400 status was updated with the same message as before:HP 11/17/2011 02:01:58 E Hold for Parts - Service call is on hold until parts arrive. 11/17/2011 02:01:58has a parts shortage always been an issue for the SL series?

Hello everyone,I?m writing to ask your opinion on a warranty replacement issue I?m facing.I have T43 machine type 2668 that was purchased in USA in 2005. I also purchased the 4yr TP Protection+ Depot warranty. Last year I extended the warranty for another year and upgraded to the onsite warranty plan. Here is my current warranty status according to the Lenovo website:Description: This product has a one year ThinkPlus maintenance offering. This product is entitled to parts and labor and includes on-site repair service. Service is available Monday-Friday, except holidays, with a next business day response objective. Customers may call their local service center for more information.Problems started when I was getting the blue screen intermittently when I turned on my wireless card (73P4304 IBM 11A/B/G WI FI WIRELESS). The problem became worse periodically. The machine would shut down intermittently and I would get Error 1802 on startup. Now the machine does not enter the BIOS and the Access IBM button does not work either.I also get the following error:Error Resource Conflict ? PCI Network Controller in slot 01, Bus:0B, Device:02, Function:00I was too busy to call IBM support as I was always travelling. Then my job was shifted to India and I brought the laptop here so that I could get it fixed by IBM in my spare time.I called the US support number from my VoIP line and phone support could not resolve the problem. They advised me to call IBM support in India to get onsite s... Read more

I've got a Windows 7 upgrade disc, so I first installed Windows XP and now need to boot from this new disc. Because I'm going from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Windows 7, I have to boot from the disc.

I can press F12 to get into the boot order selection screen; but pressing the arrow keys, escape, or enter has no effect. Once I'm on that screen, I just have to turn off the PC because I can't do anything else.

Both keyboards I've tried have been USB. I actually bought a new keyboard in case my keyboard was the issue, but the stores only had USB keyboards--if USB is the issue, I'll have to wait a few days before I can borrow an old keyboard that uses PS2.

Is there any way to workaround this using the USB keyboard I have?

Answer:Keyboard doesn't work in BIOS, any other way to change boot order?

Try plugging the usb keyboard into the usb port next to the ethernet port.

Recently I have bought an Toshiba Satellite C855-2ev.
As the performance of the wireless nic is a bit disappointing I have bought a replacement nic.

However when I wanted to change the card I was unable to open the laptop.
There are some screws under the keyboard that need to be unscrewed before it can be opened.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to remove the keyboard.
Does anybody know how the keyboard can be removed?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite C855-2EV: How to remove keyboard in order to replace WLan

I hope you know that WLAN card replacement or upgrade is not supported so doing something like this you will cancel valid warranty. Another thing is compatibility. Toshiba doesn?t offer any info about compatible WLAN cards so I?m wondering you have already bought new WLAN card.

Are you 100% sure it will work properly?
Please think twice before you do anything. In my opinion it is not so good idea to cancel valid warranty for new notebook.

My son's keyboard keys were broken before, but was fixed for free because it was still under warranty but it took the manufacturer to do it like a couple of weeks which my son hated. Now another key is broken where the nylon plasctic spring-like mechanism is missing. Just wondering where we can buy it? The first time it broke, I called the manufacturer and ask for those parts only to find out that what they are sending me are the complete qwerty keys themselves not the parts underneath them. Since it was still under warranty I decided to send them the laptop and have it fixed. I know I can fix it myself if I have the parts without having my son computer hungry for a couple of weeks. any suggestion as to where I can get those plastic part sunderneath the keyboard keys aside from the manufacturer, they must be sort of generic or universal, aren't they?

Answer:Where to order Toshiba plastic parts underneath keyboard keys

It is normal to replace the whole keyboard when something like this happens. Laptop keyboards are around $25 on EBay. Why are these keys being damaged in the first place? Have you thought about attaching a stronger USB external keyboard temporarily?

AutoHotkey is a major component of my daily work, and it is loaded at boot from a batch file which helps to control the boot order of AHK and some small utility programs. Unfortunately my keyboard freezes up after an hour or so. Tried several combinations but the problem persists. Is there a way to resolve this? When only Autokey is initiated there are no problems.

These are the programs at startup

Prior to the batch file the startup is loading these which I don't control and they are not a problem.

HKCU:Run GoogleDriveSync Google "C:\Program Files\Google\Drive\googledrivesync.exe" /autostart
HKCU:Run OpenDNS Updater "C:\Program Files\OpenDNS Updater\OpenDNSUpdater.exe" /autostart
HKLM:Run AvastUI.exe AVAST Software "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastUI.exe" /nogui

Contents of the batch file in order of activation.

nistime-32bit.exe quiet = required to set the computer clock because Microsoft is forcing UTC as my time zone, instead of EST. THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM!!

THE ORDER OF THESE THREE WHICH CAUSE THE KEYBOARD FREEZUP
1. minime.exe - an autohotkey executable utility to hide the active window
1. StickyNotes.exe - more sophisticated pad than Microsoft Sticky Notes
1. AutoHotkey.exe

Answer:startup boot order includig Autohotkey freezes keyboard

I've got a ThinkCentre desktop, model M72e 0896A9G. The mainboard had to be replaced, but since then, Windows 8 complains about a missing product key. Hi,

I bought a ideapad y570 in Chennai, India and Within 4 months of usage my battery gone bad.

I've registered a complaint regarding my poor battery backup issue and the lenovo tech agreed to replace it.

Now it's been about 4 weeks and still they haven't replaced my battery.

I must've called their support more than 7-8 times.

My complaint no is: 4270453235
Laptop model : ideapad y570
Laptop model no: xxxxxxxxxx
Date of Purchase: 2011-10-29

Everytime when I call their support no, they are telling different stories.

First they said that single battery for the lenovo ideapad z570 is not available in entire INDIA(it's pathetic), so they were going to order it from china.

Now they are saying that single battery arrived from china is DOA(Dead On Arrival).
They still dont know what to do and what to say, and  i really dont have faith in them.
If you can't arrange for a spare parts, then why do you sell laptops in my country?????

Now I regret the decision of buying a Lenovo. I"m really frustrated with their support.

Can anybody in this forum help me or suggest me some ways to get my battery?

Thanks,
Paul

Hello all,

AVAST rendered my windows useless by causing it to immediately restart after booting (so I see the 4 color orbs of the windows loading up, then see the blue background where you choose which account to log into then it restarts).

So, after messing around with it for a while I managed to fix the booting process via safemode by messing around with msconfig. It looks like something went right because now the PC boots into the windows login perfectly fine, however, I lost all functionality with my keyboard and mouse. Hence, not allowing me to do anything but stare at the screen or a forced power restart/shutdown. The KB and mouse work perfectly fine during the BIOS phase prior to booting to windows. I bought a PS/2 keyboard today thinking that it might solve the issue (my original KB and mouse are USB) but it did not. I spent a night and morning googling methods but I can't seem to find anything related to my issue and my migraine finally kicked it from frustration.

What can I do to fix this without reinstalling windows? Is there a method to reset what drivers load up? Or maybe reset msconfig startup parameters to default? Another issue I'm having is that I do not have the "repair install" option when I boot with the Windows DVD. This had me stumped all last night but I finally realized that it's because you need to activate the DVD from within the Windows Environment then reboot. That, as I stated, is not possible.

Thank you for your help!

So you booted in safe mode and changed some things in msconfig. "normal boot" works as well as I read correctly. Did you use keyboard/mouse to logon? Do you see clock in bottom right of screen? Does it increase a minute each minute?

What did you "mess around" with msconfig?

I've had this keyboard

http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Reclusa-Gaming-Keyboard-Black/dp/B000MR1XWK/

for quite a while now (almost 5 years) and it has been quite an adventure. The basic UI it came with was perfect (as I don't want to spend hours and hours trying to figure out how to open my media player with 1 button). Leading me to my basic and very important need for a new gaming keyboard.

My new keyboard will need to have media controls...that open things besides Windows Media Player (Ituns, Spotify, etc). I despise WMP and often click to use my music without a thought. It's convenient and a luxury I no longer choose to live without. I don't care whether the KB is mechanical or not as long as the keys aren't squished together, raised to ridiculous "ergonomic" heights, or covered in a rubber that will fade in a few months.

My reclusa has just one button that the letter has faded from in it's 4 years of use, I think that's pretty awesome when world of warcraft is basically just spamming one button for hours at a time.

I would like my new KB to have macro keys besides the media panel (which I'm assuming all gaming KBs come with today) and as user-friendly as possible. I looked up the BlackWidow linked as the "Unicorn" KB on MMO's Setup of the Month and found that quite a few people are experiencing issues with keys becoming stuck in some way or another or just failing to work at all...something lik... I just placed an order for a P70 from a US reseller. I live abroad, but will be visiting in the near future and that's when I'll pick the computer up. This model comes with a US English keyboard, but I need a Spanish keyboard (backlit). I have no problem replacing the keyboard myself, but first I have to figure out how the heck to buy it! I've managed to narrow my search down to two parts, from this parts list: 00PA298 (PYWL-KBD,ES,CHY,BL) or 00PA380 (PYWL-KBD,ES,DFN,BL).  My first question is what is the difference between these two models? The "CHY" code seems to stand for Chicony, a keyboard manyfacturer, but then who is DFN, and are these parts interchangeable? And my second qiestion is how do I actually order one of these parts. Using the Lenovo site, I get no furthere than here, a page which demands my serial number (which I don't yet have or know), so I can't even find out if (a) they have one of these two keyboards, (b) what they cost, and (c) if they'll sell one to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,I am looking for help replacing the keyboard on my hp envy m7-n109dx.Note this particular model is different than others. I have attempted to follow the directions for other models of 17" hp envy note books but those models have these key differences:The battery is completely internal on my model. The optical drive cannot be removed without removing the bottom of the case (I can get that far). There are key differences with the case build/ appearance from other models that there are tutorials/ instructions for.I bought my laptop at Best Buy. I suspect the differences were cost cutting measures and this model is Best Buy only. There is a tutorial for removing the case to replace the hard drive here :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgeHzELkp0w This works for my model but the tutorial does not tell me how to get the top portion of the case off. The keyboard is still inaccessible and it seems the keyboard is buried between the MoBo / components and the top portion of the case and from what I can tell they seem to be glued together somehow.Has anyone performed this repair on this model? It would seem ridiculous to make the keyboard this inaccessible on a laptop, it has to be the most common hardware repair. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

Hey guys. I have a 1year old Z50-70 notebook. Unfortunately, I managed to spill some beer on the keyboard. 1. Is there any change that I can change that on warranty? (i guess not)All the key work. At the begining they were very very sticky, but i took out all the keys and cleaned them for three consecutive days. Now they are 90% as before. Still a bit sticky, but not as bad. During the cleaning process, some of the key mechanisms were destroied, so I want to buy a new keyboard. 2. Will replacing the keyboard by myself void the warranty? Is there any warranty stickers on the keyboard screws? (I haven`t yet open the bottom to take a look)3. Can I replace the keyboard with one that it backlit? Mine doesn't come with such a feature.4. Are there 2 types of keyboards? My notebook is the 'facelift' model (has the hexagonal bar near the display, not the round one). Looking on ebay, most of the keyboards have a small curved edge in the top part, on the side near the screen. Mine however is all plain, no upwards curves.5. Where can I buy an original keyboard? as I would like to avoid third-party one, as the original is already bad (it bends when typing). I don't want a keyboard even worse then the one I already have

Hi, I'm looking to replace the Norwegian keyboard in my laptop with a Russian one as I could not get a model with a Russian keyboard installed here in Norway. I bought the keyboard off ebay and have looked at it and it seems like it will fit in the chassis. I'm wondering if there are any instructions on how to replace the keyboard and maybe some tips on how to avoid ruining anything during removal such as the edges of the top cover. I couldn't find anything in the service manual pertaining to keyboard replacement. By the way, I do realize that I will probably void the warranty by replacing the keyboard but I just really dislike having to type Russian on this keyboard.

The problem with your desired upgrade is that the systemboard for your notebook won't have the header that supplies power to the backlighted keyboard, so it won't work as expected.

I would like to be able to renew the keyboard myself and have seen the correct one for sale (ebay) i would like to know if this an easy repair to do(with some instructions). My PC is a Packard Bell Easynote R1938 Laptop. can someone help out please

Answer:keyboard replacement

Yes it is easy.
Get hold of the PDF workshop manual from the web.

It is usually just a case of removing the screws on the bottom marked with a K and possibly prising out the top button bar.

Take care with detaching the ribbon cables though as the connectors aren't of the best design, and can be fiddly.

Hello! My ideapad U31-70's keyboard stopped working recently and I'm trying to fix it. When I connect an external keyboard, the keys work fine which tells me that it is a hardware problem and not a software problem. I wanted to know which keyboard to buy online, and how to replace it. I called Best Buy who told me to buy the keyboard before coming in to replace the broken one. I also can't find any videos or threads of replacing this keyboard online, can anyone help me?Thank you!

Answer:U31-70 Keyboard Replacement

Hi shanmoo,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The keyboard is packaged with the entire upper case and not just the keyboard.
Using you serial number check on the upper case that goes with your machine here on the parts lookup page.

Use the upper case part number looking for other resellers and to compare price and costing with lenovo encompass. Here is the hardware manual for reference on the disassembly and Service training module for some video guide.

I hope this help answer your query.

Hi, I have a US thinkpad x220 with english keyboard and I need to replace it with a spanish one.Where can I buy this part?Spanish lenovo website and contact numbers are being pretty useless. Thanks

Answer:Keyboard replacement

Hello,

According to this Lenovo web page listing Keyboard Service Parts for the X220, the FRU numbers for Spanish keyboards are 45N2221, 45N2081 or 45N2151, and for Latin American Spanish keyboards are 45N2214, 45N2074 or 45N2144.

I do not know where one could easly purchase those parts in Spain besides Lenovo or IBM, but perhaps that will make it easier for you to find a source.

download your T42's hardware maintenance manual, find the appropriate FRU number for your keyboard (NMB is usually recommended), and call IBM maintenance parts at 800-388-7080 (options 2:1:1) to order.you can find your current keyboard's FRU number via the parts lookup page on lenovo's site.if you have any questions on the process then please don't hesitate to ask.
