X220 Windows 7 32 bit software

Question: X220 Windows 7 32 bit software

Doesn't seem to be an option to get the X220 with Windows 7 32bit. Any idea why, or if it can be done? Our users are stuck with some really old dos based software that they have to use and it won't run on Win7 64 bit. Updating the software is not an option, nor is running in XP Mode.

Preferred Solution: X220 Windows 7 32 bit software

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: X220 Windows 7 32 bit software

Hi BigMac55, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Windows 7 32-bit DVD's are listed in the X220 Hardware Maintenance Manual, so it's available, but perhaps not through the online store custom to order pages. Call sales or your rep to order.

Hope this helps!

Well... I finally succeed finding the driver... on the lenovo web site. I used the html page name (the one that don't exists anymore), that is "ufma-64bit" and the word "authentec" and google give me the lenovo page. I can't make a copy/paste as I'm not on the right computer, but it's:http://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/downloads/ds030585 file name is "Authentec TrueSuite Fingerprint Software for 64-bits Windows" - in fact windows 7 and it works on the X220 tablet thanksjdanield

Hi, i have a strange problem with my X220until not long ago when i used the FN + keys i used to have a symbol showing up in my screen but now it doesntBTW the keys works mostly o.k. except FN+F5 What do i need to install in order to have the symbols back and have FN+F5 working again?  Thanks Tal

Answer:FN software in X220

I think you need the Hotkey Features Integration driver. Here's a link to the drivers page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-77280 FN-F5 is tied to Access Connections so you might need that too, it is near the bottom of that page.

Hi, everybody! I have I strange problem. My ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software was working fine a few days ago until I had to uninstall the software. I had to uninstall it because my x200 had a motherboard problem and went to service. Meanwhile I used the HDD with another notebook. That's why I had to remove the fingerprint software. I got my x220 back and I tried to install the fingerprint (along with all other software and drivers) software, but I'm getting this message and the installation stops: You have currently installed another version of fingerprint software. Please, uninstall your existing software before running this installation. Actually, there's no sign left from the fingerprint software. I removed it via the Programs and Features menu, I entered BIOS, removed all the fingerprint data from the new motherboard (although I believe that was not quite necessary since it's a brand-new motherboard). All other drivers and software installed fine, without any problem. Has someone else encountered a similar problem? I'd appreciate it very much if you help me somehow. Thanks!

Dear all, first of all, I'd like to announce that im very pleased with my X220, but lately I've had a problem...I bought the PC because of the utterly nuts battery, obviously I got the 9-cell... Battery condition is: GOOD Full charge: 83.76Wh This sounds relatively acceptable, right? But no matter what these days when im on the battery, it claims that im doing 2A or more... However, this time, it claimed 3A... So be it, its 'very realistic' that idle my laptop uses 36W riiiiight..... But thats not entirely it... I was cooking and watching telly, LESS than 40 min, it went from 95% to 5%.... Thats 90% of 83,76 = 75,384W in 40 min, bringing the power consumption to 113,076W.... IDLEThats more than my workstation uses when idling, and isnt realistic.... What the heck can be wrong? Any suggestions? Cheers,Marc

Answer:Faulty battery or software? X220

That sounds like one or more bad cells in that battery of yours, not like a software issue.

Hi From our experience with lenovo, almost each new laptop model, comes with a different 3rd party burning software. For example: T410 comes with ?Corel BurnNowSD? from my "goggling", I have found that Corel BurnNowSD might not be right for T420 and there is a Software named "Corel DVD Movie Factory" for burning discs, but I could not find it in the original Partition that comes with T420.Some sites say that Corel Burn. Now Lenovo Edition also fits T420 but also, no installation files in original partition. we use in our company a pre-made image of windows 7 that suite our needs.Hence the windows 7 installation that comes with Lenovo laptops is irrelevant to this thread as an OS installation, but I can browse the original partition before "destroying it" I need your help to know what is the relevant 3rd party burning software for T420 and X220 and where can I find it?s installation files. eaither on the original hard disk that the laptops comes with from Lenovo, or where can I d/l it from.(please do not refer me with a link to the "update/upgrade" software download page, cause it doesn't help because its only for pre-installed software) Thanks.

Answer:3rd Party Burning software for T420/X220

Maybe the default Corel bundle changed, but burning software is hardware-independent; you can use any burning software on any system. There are some nice, free or paid, third-party tools out there too.

Hello, I have a ThinkPad X220, Win7 64. My fingerprint scanner works fine in predesktop verification, but the last three days I get an error when it is supposed to log unto Win7. The error says 0xe7210005 INternal Error (rpnp2: no-svr(00000001provmgrserver)). I have to enter the password to log on. I have reinstalled the fingerprint software - no change. As the predesktop scan works, I gather that the HW and the fingerprint database are ok. While I was handling this I tried to run a system update. Here the Think Vantage System Update software starts up and then stalls. I have this with the last version (5.0.3) that I downloaded as well as with a version 4 that came with the machine. Has anybody got an idea (beside reinstalling the OS)? Many thanks Rolf

Answer:X220 Software fail: System Update and Fingerprint

The fingerprint error means that something is blocking some internal fingerprint software process.  Did you install any new anti-virus software, or maybe some firewall software, in the last three days since you started to have this problem?

I am not sure what could be causing the System Update problem.

Hello,I have had to recently wipe my computer (X220 thinkpad) due to issues with Win 10 upgrade & although I have an initial state recovery disk, I don't want to use this due to software installed later. My question is, all I can find now in 2016 are windows 10 apps & even though people consider initial Lenovo software bloatware, I found certain components incredibly useful like the power manager. As an eg, The new power manager comes wrapped in a Win 10 gui app (yuck) with nothing but 'special' icons for Lenovo users and the minute I want to go advanced I'm dealing with Windows control panel again.I especially liked being able to control parameters like fan speed, graphics, dimming etc.If anyone remembers the initial software, they will know what I'm talking about.  I cannot find this anywhere on Lenovo download site for my system and am wondering if there's any way to recover such software.Software I would like back but cannot find for X220.  Running 64 bit on Win 10 ProLenovo fingerprint managerLenovo webcam mgrLenovo power mgrLenovo Network mgr Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Today my basically new x220 dropped from maybe 2 feet and the case ( where the heat grill is) broke a bit. The edge of the screen is split and the entire back and hinge where the monitor meets the keyboard is dented ( it looks as if the heat sink may be bent up. what are the steps I need to follow to get this fixed? I have ~270 days of warranty left.  There is a "compucom" service center near me, but what is the quickest way to get this repaired?

Answer:Help With repairing an in warranty x220? Damaged X220

Your standard warranty won't cover the repair on user induced damages. You should call Lenovo warranty to find out the best way to get it fixed. But i would imagine it won't be cheap.

Hi all, The subject. Windows Log-in time takes too much time. Vefore it was like: Swipe finger - x220 starts - automatically goes through HDD and Master Password authorization - Windows starts - Fingerprint software starts - Automatically logs me in to the system- another 3-5 seconds until all software loads completely and I can start to work. Now it is like: Swipe finger - x220 starts - automatically goes through HDD and Master Password authorization - Windows starts - Fingerprint Software starts (5-6 sec longer than before) - Process of authorization (another 4-5 secs) - Login screen disappears and gray screen appears instead (another 4-5 secs) - Blank windows desktop (2-3 secs) - Another 3-5 secsonds until all software loads completely and I can start to work. Before it was very quick, probably 8 seconds from Fingerprint software start and to complete software load. I have SSD installed and it's S.M.A.R.T. is OK. I have tried to uninstall Fingerprint reader software and driver and start windows conventionally using my password. I have got my 8 seconds form Login screen to ready, so i assume the problem is in Fingerprint reader. What can I do? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Probably Fingerprint Reader Issue. Windows Log-in takes too long. Windows Home Pro x64. X220 i7

I checked it here on some test systems and I'm not seeing any delay like that.  On my systems, it's like your "before" scenario.

I'm not really following what you are saying with the "after" scenario, especially the parts about the gray screen and blank windows desktop.  So can you take a video of the complete boot and post it?  Maybe it will help me understand what is happening.

If you can remember when this started happening, look in Control Panel -> Programs and Features and sort by install date.  See if you can find a software install/update that happened around the time you first noticed this problem.  I would be especially suspicious about anti-virus and security software.  And make sure you don't have RapidBoot installed on your system.   http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075364

The fingerprint software (ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software) hasn't been updated in more than a year, so I don't think fingerprint software itself is causing this.  Probably it is interference from another application.

So basically i'm trying to figure out why the same game in windows store, will overclock and overheat the CPU on the X220 with Windows 10, at +3.07 ghz .... but on the T520 with Windows 8, the same game runs at -1.95 ghz. the t520 has an i5-2520m and the x220 has i5-2540m .... so if anything, it should run LESS hard on the x220.  but instead it overheats it ........ and appears that something in the Windows 10 build allows programs to overclock the CPU more. i've tried installing older versions of direct x.... thinking maybe it's a 3d problem.  i've used the windows power manager to limit CPU to 75% .... which then still overheats the CPU but keeps the clock at a constant 2.36 ghz.which is still having it work harder than the very same game from the windows store on the Windows 8 set up.it is something with Windows 10 specifically that allows overheating of the CPU.  btw there is absolutely no difference in the game speed itself.  it runs cool on 8, runs hot on 10. and the windows 10 system on the X220 feels unstable because of this.  it will run completely cool for a flash video, but then jack up the heat running a local mp4 file.the only answer i have is to abandon Windows 10 and tell everyone i know to do the same.  to NOT upgrade if it can be avoided.  because there is no sense in upgrading software to extend the lifetime of a machine, if the software itself DECREASES the lifetime of the hardware.if there is a driver or sp... Answer:Windows 10 overheats X220

well windows 10 has issues with diffirent old laptops thats why you shall follow recommendations by manufacture not what microsofts says, their tool only regonizes if you got required os to upgrade so thats not proper thing :/ check X220 drivers section if that section do not have windows 10 listed then it's mostlikely that x220 wont support windows 10 so installing or upgrading to it will be "Do it at your own risk" since any issues that comes will not be supported by Lenovo since they do not support windows 10 on models that don't have windows 10 listed in their drivers area. One good thing lenovo should do is create a list with all tested laptops and confirmed that lenovo offers windows 10 support for them. Acer did this to their laptops they created a huge list of all models that supports & is tested by manufacture to gurantee it will support windows 10

Hi everyone,

Just made an account for this.
I bought this laptop a few weeks back from a guy who received it from his company a while ago, in great condition fully functional etc.

Now I am trying to install a 64bit win 7 on this via USB, as it does not have (old Laptop, not tablet, no touchscreen) a DVD/CD reader.

When I got it first, I installed a 64bit win 7, but proved to be too much for the 4GBs so I reinstalled it with a 32bit win 7. Hey guys!

Wondering if anyone else is having similiar issues...

Recently installed windows 10 (64bit) on my x220 (core i5 @2.6, 4gb ram.) With all the headaces I might be going back to win 7 pretty soon...

First, my wifi keeps dropping about every 10 minutes. Only way to get it working again is if I restart the computer. I've tried several different drivers, all which are doing the same.

My sound is skipping/lagging every few seconds. Its horrible... I've tried so many different drivers its insane, same problem.

Maybe every half hour the desktop will lock and nothing works for a few minutes. Also I cant get access to the task manager during this time.

I'm wondering if anyone has had any or all of these problems, and if there was any solution found? I'm hoping I can get this working normal so I wont have to revert back to win 7, kind of like the new features.

Thanks!

Answer:x220 Windows 10 Issues

I have problem with X220 + Win10 aswell.I was not able to install until I found out that the BIOS setting of X220 default of UEFI/Legacy Boot priority is Legacy. But that makes the installer freeze at boot up. I have changed it to UEFI to get the installer working. But now I have problem booting X220 without Ultrabay. When I remove the Ultrabay, stacks at boot up right after the blue Windows logo. Ultrabay has a HDD inside, maybe something is wrong in the boot script....But beside that I do not have any problem like you. You never had any problem installing W10?before you go back to Win7, write down your W10 product key.you can see it with windows productkey viewer like this one:http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/utility/winproductkey/so you can clean install from ISO file next time.I'm on i7, 16gb, mSATA SSD+ SATA SSD.

I just updated my x220 laptop to windows 10 using clean install option. After upgrading, Windows 10 got actived, recovery disk partition still exists,  a hidden patition becomes visible adn all lenovo software were gone. Then, when I tried to create a system revocery usb using that recovery disk partition( windows 7), I found that I cannot use that Rescue and Recovery tool I downloaded from Lenovo because that tool cannot run on Windows 10.  Also, I cannot install a retail version Windows 7 because the OEM key will not work. So is there a way that I can get back to factory preinstalled Windows 7?

Strange problem I'm having, my x220 wont recieve any updates from windows. Ive re-installed multiple times, tried many fixes and nothing has worked. Most recently I just reinstalled the whole laptop and first thing I ran was the lenovo system updater, it's stuck on installing windows 7 update module kb2459268 64 bit.. when you goto windows updates it just checks for updates forever. I bought this system used and I originally installed windows 7 and updated to windows 10 which worked, but windows 10 was unsupported and the computer had issues powering off and going to/waking up from sleep. Ever since then when I reinstalled windows 7 I have had this issue. I cant work with a pc that doesn't update... Any tips greatly appreciated. Brad

Hi,I'm not seeing X220 T listed by Lenovo in laptops-windows 10 compatibilty list...??? Is that right? Mine is a 3 years old system... I can't believe is not going to be possible to use Windows 10... Anyone has tried it?Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 support for X220 Tablet

Hello,

It may work fine with Windows 10, however, I don't believe its generation of CPU, IGP and chipset are supported by Intel for Windows 10, which means that Lenovo can't support them, either.  For what it is worth, I installed Windows 10 on a ThinkPad X61t and didn't notice any issues, and that has been out of support for a much longer time than your X220t.

That said, it could be that Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 drivers for the various bits of silicon inside your X220 tablet may work just fine under Windows 10, in which case you would be up and running.

The best suggestion I have is to make a thorough backup of your X220 and then try applying the Windows 10 Upgrade.  If it doesn't work, you will be able to wipe the drive and then reload your backup.

Hey folks, I've upgraded my X220 Tablet to W8 when it has been released. All is running fine. Okay, I deinstalled PC Doctor and several other Lenovo apps which are supported for W7 only but this has not been a lack for me. Since two days, after using the tablet functionality (touch + pen) the touchpad and trackpoint didn't work any more. Had that some time ago, when I suspended the machine in tablet-mode. Afterwards the touchpad and trackpoint were disabled. I could enable both by hitting FN+F8. But this shortcut doesn't work any more. Does anyone know, how to restore the FN+F8 shortcut? I found out the application behind the FN+F8 key can be found in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\UltraNav Utility\UNAVOSD.exe UPDATE: Driver version is already at 16.2.19.2. cheerskyoshiro

Planning to update the HDD of my old Lenovo, consolidating the 350GB HDD + 250GB mSATA SSD into a single 500GB SSD, with the benefit of making it working on a SATAIII interface instead of the SATAII of the x220 mSATA slot. Since in these 6 years of usage I never reinstalled the Windows 7 I'm wondering if will be beneficial also to reinstall a new Win10. X220 is not listed in the Lenovo certified systems working with W10 Creators Update, wanted to know if I will probaly face troubles and also if I will nedd to install using some custom Lenovo installer.

Answer:Upgrade to Windows 10 on ThinkPad x220

Hello,

I have not had any problems running Windows 10 on my ThinkPad X220, but it is old enough that I don't think it is officially supported by Lenovo.

From looking at http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x... there are nearly two dozen ThinkPad X220-specific downloads which mention Windows 10 compatbility.  My working assumption is that they are for hardware common to the X220 and newer devices which are supported.

I would suggest dowing a clean installation of Windows 10, and then downloading the drivers and software you need from Lenovo's site, plus whatever Windows Update offers post-install.

Hello,In January, I upgraded the hard drive in my X220 Tablet and installed Windows 8 to the new hard drive.  Since doing so, I've been having trouble with the Wi-Fi on the computer.  It does this thing from time to time (a few times a week) where the Wi-Fi just cuts out, and doesn't think any networks are available, although the networking adapter is enabled.  Usually I can fix things by disabling and enabling the networking adapter a few times, but I'm getting tired of having to do this.  The problem is entirely with the computer, and not with my network, as it will do this on number of different networks, and the problem is not with the networking components.   Has anyone else had similar issues?  Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it?

All the drivers are listed, the touch screen works fine but I get no response when i try to use the pen. Good evening everyone, I have been looking through the Lenovo forums for the past few months to try and figure out how to sucessfully install Windows XP Professional (x86) on my X220 with a solid state drive. From what I have read, that is the source of the problem as XP can not understand the complex archetecture of the solid state drive. The article that I have found (but have not had success with deploying the solution) is located here that was referenced from the original forum post I encountered. I am really hoping to hear from others who have had success installing XP on their X220's or other computers that have a similar problem. Any resources or tactics to help me out would be much appreciated, I am very hopeful that I can get XP installed on my system!

Hello Community, I'm having some problems with my X220 at work. I installed Windows 8 on it a few months ago. Everything was working okay. But for the past couple of weeks I've had some screen problem. Once I close the lid on the laptop and reopen it again the screen stays black without showing me anything again. I have to do a hard reboot everytime that happens and it happens 2 times a week. When that happens I lose some important data and it's simply a pain in the a**. Maybe you guys had the same problem and found a solution. Or it might be a Hardware problem of some sort. But before throwing it in the garbage I just wanna see if someone has a solution for me. Thanks everyone and have a nice day. Regards, Phil

Hello!I reinstalled my Windows 10, and now the op.s. can't  recognize that my notebook has a bluetooth modem. I had checked the BIOS before my question, and the bluetooth is enabled. I tried to install some drivers, but nothing helps. The ThinkVantage button and the microfone mute doesn't work, too. What can I do?I know, that x220 has not support by Win10, but I used this op.s. previously without problems.

Answer:Driver issues with x220 - Windows 10

I updated my X220 to Windows 10 as well. I have a yellow triangle on Seriell PCI-port. I can see the Bluetooth button in settings but I can't enable the Bluetooth button. I can't see it on the list Fn+5. My mute microphone button works. I read that you should download the Hotkey drivers and update the BIOS to get Bluetooth to work. But I have tried to update the BIOS but I don't under the instructions: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1cts02w.txt I tried step 10 but I got error.  Edit: After I install Intel Chipset (an older version) the triangle of Seriell PCI-port disappeared. To get Micophone button to work uninstall and install Hotkey 4.3.10.11 BIOS: I tried to run srsetupWindows64 it from Windows, a programme started but it ended at the same second.  Second edit: Bluetooth finally works now. I haven't find the Bluetooth setting in the BIOS and now I really click on every menu and then I found it. It was disabled so BIOS v.1.40 works fine with windows 10. Stupid  me.

First of all, so far as I know, my upgrade to Windows 10 worked very well and I really like the new OS. The only problem I'm having is that my mic won't work. It shows it as being installed and functioning properly but I can't utilize it anywhere in the system. The driver is the Contexant 20672 SmartAudio HD.  When I go to "Set up a microphone" is says "The wizard could not start. Make sure your hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel." My mic is enabled and the volume is up. Any ideas?

Answer:X220 microphone not working after Windows 10

HiWhile there is an issue with Conexant drivers for win10, probably the fastest way is to use Dolby Home Theatre 4 application. It supports Conexant audio chip and works w/o manufacturer drivers.DHT could be found on the Lenovo support site since a lot of laptops has that app preloaded. Also, there are threads on the forum about DHT and presets for certain laptop models and audio chip. Note, I don't know anything whether DHT supports win10.

I recently bought a used Thinkpad 220 Tablet. It has a 500 MB hard drive and Windows 7. I would like to perform the free upgrade to Windows 10 as well as replace the hard drive with a SSD. I have a couple of questions: I went to the Windows 10 upgrade site and downloaded the 64 bit version and burnt it to a DVD. However, where do I find my registration key? Do I just use my Windows 7 one? If I go ahead and replace the hard drive (with the SSD), can I just go ahead and install Windows 10 - instead of having to copy everything over to it from the old hard drive (with Windows 7) first? That would be my preferred route. (However, will need the key). What about the IBM diagnostic partittion - what should I do in terms of this? It would be nice to be able to perform backups, or return to the original config. Any tips, thoughts, pointers, or otherwise much appreciated in advance. Thanks,Jon

Answer:X220 Tablet - install SSD then Windows 10 from DVD?

Hello and welcome,

The way I read the documentation:  run the upgrade first from within your running Windows 7.  That should activate Win 10 and the activation status will be recorded on the Microsoft servers.  Once that's done you can do a clean '10 install - either on your existing drive or on the new SSD and activation should be retrieved automatically from the server.

BTW, I've moved your post to the X tablet forum.

Hi, I have an X220 (4291-D78) which I have put Windows XP on. This X220 has an Ericcson F5521GW built in WWAN card that displays as a smart card reader (which I guess it is for the sim card slot) I need to use the 3g slot but the issue I am having is that when I boot up and to windows the sim card slot acts as if it has a card in and prompts for a pin instead of prompting the ctrl + alt + delete.  Not a problem because I can either hit escape or enter any random digits it says the pin is incorrect and throws me back to ctrl + alt + delete. I have the latest drivers for all the hardware and have also flashed the bios to the latest version (1.21) Now the problem that is going to cause me the most grief is I want to apply my card reader software on for authentication.  Basically it uses its own version of msgina.dll to lock down the machine to reading the card and entering a pin to login like most card software. The WWAN card causes issues because it will not pick up my card slot unless I disable the WWAN in the bios to let me login using the gem card reader. Has anybody else had this issue using Windows XP im not talking about using custom software im just talking about Windows XP prompting for a pin everytime you get to ctrl + alt + delete? Is there a fix for this? Cheers James

Answer:X220 3g card prompts for pin Windows XP

hey James-Gilbert,curious to know, the simcard that you're using it was originally for the Gem card reader?is that simcard by any chance pin lock to be used on the gem card reader ?

Hi I am running an i5 2540m with 4 gigs of ram on windows 32 bit. I'm sorry if this is an ignorant question, but does the fact that I'm running 32 bit windows mean that I'm at a performance disadvantage to if I was running 64 bit? I mean I understand that I can't run apps in 64 bit processing, so surely that should make it slower? Does bits relate to processors? I think mine is a dual core, I'd hate to think I'm only using one of my processors. Any help appreciated. J

Answer:Performance of an X220 running windows 32 bit

well for real world use, the only difference in speed is largely due to the 3 gigs ram limit of the 32 bit OS. if you are constantly running out of ram, then you will benefit from the 64 bit OS with their higher ram limits. http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5709 <--- this offers a better explanation of the 32 bit versus 64 bit OS issue.

Ok first off, I do love Lenovo, it's about the best computer I've ever owned.  With that said, there is going to be some complaining going on here, but I hope it's both constructive and instructive as well as observed and addressed. #1. Applies to both Win 7 and Win 8 (I'm dual booting both Operating systems).  The ultranav drivers/software are pretty bad.  First and foremost, "Middle Click Mouse Button".  By default on my shiny new Windows 8 clean install, the mouse and trackpad work great, with some features missing because of generic drivers, but Whallah!  The middle button functions naturally and perfectly as a middle mouse button.  Upon installing (and then immediately removing) Ultranav, the middle mouse functionality disappears and your stuck with a dopey scrolling button...  Didn't anyone ever tell the driver department that handles this that regular middle mouse button functionality handles scrolling by default in most modern browsers/applications, there is no need to over-ride this default functionality at all, and in the process making it worse.  Please ditch the zoom/scroll options and just give us a middle mouse button (or at least make it an available option in Ultranav).  Some of the features in Ultranav work great in Windows 7, edge scrolling on the trackpad, palm recognition, etc., being able to speed up the red keyboard joystick thingy, add acceleration, etc..  The recommended Win 8 driver... Answer:X220 ThinkPad UltraNav Utility for windows 8

Hello,

I am unsure if Lenovo has released an UltraNav Utility for the X220 under Windows 8.

I did find the latest UltraNav driver here for the X220.  It specifically mentions Windows support:

Synaptics UltraNav driver for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit)... - v16.2.19.2 - 18 Dec 2012

The latest UltraNav Utility I could find is for Windows 7, but you could try installing it under Windows 8 in Compatibility Mode to see if it works, I suppose.

UltraNav Utility for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP (32-bit, 64-bit) - Think... - v2.13 - 17 Sep 2010

If it does not work correctly, or introduces erratic behavior, you would then have to uninstall it.  In any case, I would recommend backing up any critical data before installing the UltraNav Utility, just in case.

Currently, when I start my X220 it won't boot to Windows 7. Instead, it just sits at a blinking cursor in the top-left hand corner. The keyboard is alive (i.e. I can get a response out of CapLock and NumLock).  Here is the tragedy of today, told in as few words as possible. 1. Installed Comodo Disk Encryption and encrypted primary drive (Windows7_OS).2. System Rebooted to blinking cursor of death (but no response from CapLock and NumLock)3. Played with a lot of BIOS settings, eventually reset to System Defaults because they didn't get me anywhere.4. Removed HDD and installed into SATA->USB enclosure, attached drive to my Dell Workstation.5. Using Comodo installed on the Dell Workstation, I mounted and unencrypted the drive. 6. Reintalled HDD into laptop, problem persists. I assume I've wrecked my MBR in some way and I can't reload it to the Lenovo magic MBR. Currently, Disk Manager of the Dell sees three partitions: 1. SYSTEM_DRV -- Healthy (Active, Primary Partition)2. Windows7_OS (G -- Healthy (Primary Partition)3. Lenovo_Recovery (H -- Healthy (Primary Partition) Obviously, these drive letters are G + H because its being mounted on my dell currently.  Any suggestions? I'm sort of at a loss here. I can download generic tools to repair the MBR, but I've read that this won't help me. F11/ThinkVantage doesn't work and I also did not make a recovery disk before trying this. Thanks in advance. --Crossposted in X220 Tablet

Hi everyone - having some troubles with my X220 and windows 8.1 and fast startup. It has been working flawlessly for a few months now with Windows 8 and an SSD but has recently decided it does not want to fast startup - every time I try and boot with the feature enabled the laptop immediately shuts off completely after the boot animation. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 running Windows 7, and I've had it for about two years now. It worked fine up until this morning and now immediately turns off even if it is tilts slightly. When I say it turns off immediately, I mean it's like the battery has been taken out. Sometimes static will appear momentarily on screen before it turns off, and other times it won't turn off, but the entire screen just stays frozen. Also, now when I try to access websites like Facebook or Google which would normally be okay, I get a message saying that the website's security certificate is not trusted. I feel like doing a system restore would help, but since I got the laptop from school I don't have administrator privileges and cannot do so.

Below are my laptop's specs. Honestly I have no idea whether this is a hardware or software problem. If anyone has any idea what might be wrong or knows of any way to fix this, your help is much appreciated.

A few days ago I finally upgraded my X220 from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. However I've discovered to features have gone missing, which really bugs me. First the battery gauge is gone. Google and tried most of suggestion I've found but without any luck. Second the WiDi (Wireless Display) has also been removed. Both features are strongly missed as I use them more or less on a daily basis. Has anyone found a working solution to any or both of them? If so please advise

My X220 recently had the system board replaced at a local Lenovo Authorized Service Provider. They were only supposed to replace the fan but the speaker connector broke when they were removing the board. Windows now isn't able to read the machine type. System Update doesn't work because of this. CPU-Z and hwinfo64 show the machine type as qqqqCTO as if it were blank in the BIOS. Machine type is there correctly in the BIOS correctly, but they left the system board serial number blank. Could that be causing this?

Answer:X220- windows can't read machine type

Yes that is definitely the cause.  Unfortunately it seems the technician who carried out the repair forgot to enter them. The only solution and method to get the correct values entered in BIOS is through an authorised Lenovo service partner; they will have the necessary tools to fix it.

Which battery manager do you use? I'm getting like 3-3.5 hours w/ the lenovo one. Can you disable it and use windows? how do i do that? thanks.

Answer:x220: lenovo battery manger vs windows?

Thinkvantage Power Manager is designed specifically for thinkpads and optimised for the batteries that ship with Thinkpads. It is more accurate and have better charging method. While, windows one is more generic built with no particular system in mind. As such Lenovo's one is better, as you can select the different charging plan which is not allowed by windows.

I'm sure when I upgraded to Windows 10 that I initially retained Power Manager functions - the remaining battery life indicator at least. That important little indicator seems to have disappeared on a recent Windows 10 update. It seems that I cannot download Power Manager with Windows 10 on my X220. Can anyone confirm? Any other options for displaying a battery life indicator without having to open up in Windows 10 settings every time I want to check?

F11/ThinkVantage doesn't work. Thanks in advance. (Crossposted in X220)

Hello. I could not find any answers to this question, so I'm posting new. Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere and I couldn't find it.

I'm running an X220 Thinkpad and I recently made the switch from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.  I use my trackpoint a lot.  Under Windows 7, occasionally for reasons I never understood a trackpoint feature that was called 'Press-to-Select' in the Mouse Control panel would enable whereby pressing on the trackpoint would cause it to act like clicking a mouse button. I hated that feature - especially when it would get hypersensitive and cause the mouse to click and jump all over my screen - and under Windows 7 I used to know where to go to disable 'Press-to-Select' after it myseteriously enabled itself.

Since switching to Windows 10, 'Press-to-Select' seems to be permanently on, in a very annoying hyper-sensitive way.  However, whereas I used to be able to go and turn it off in Windows 7, now when I go into the Mouse section of the control panel I no longer see any reference to 'Press-to-Select' being enabled or disabled.

Please, someone, help me disable Press-to-Select for my trackpoint under Windows 10.  What changed?

Answer:X220 - How can I disable "press-to-select" in Windows 10

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I don't have a X220 to give it a try, but on the Trackpoint drivers the "press to select" options was on "Control Panel - Mouse" and select the "Trackpoint tab" to check for the options.

Also e check that on your X220 you have the trackpoint driver installed. You can check the Thinkpad X220 support site and download the latest Synaptics drivers for Windows 10.

Give it a try to see if you find it.

I've just upgraded my system from Win 7 to Win 8 Pro. Among many other problems, the most interesting one is that the hot keys such as Fn + F5 no longer work. Other hotkeys for say screen brightness and desktop monitor control (for making presentations) still work. I've installed the following thinkvantage tools in hope of solving the issue, but nothing's improving:Lenovo patch utility 1.0.1.1Lenovo patch utility 1.3.1.1Lenovo patch utility 64 bit 1.2.0.1Lenovo patch utility 64 bit 1.3.1.1Lenovo screen optimizerLenovo settings dependency packageLenovo simple tapLenovo solution centreLenovo system updateOn screen display version 7.01.00power managerthink vantage active protection systemthinkpad tablet button driver Is there anything that should be in the list but not? If so where to find it?

Answer:X220 Hotkeys do not work after upgrading to Windows 8

I believe you need base utility package from this page (don't know why it's called base utility there, driver is actually Hotkey integration v4.13, and it's not on the normal drivers page yet....) http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=WIN8-BETA Func-F5 works here, others still do not, like Func-F3 so it's still not perfect....

Dear Ladies and Gents,I've decided to buy my x220 company notebook, and make some upgrades on it. I installed the latest BIOS version. I bought a Transcend MSA370 mSATA SSD module, and replaced the integrated WWAN card with it. The concept was , that I keep the original 320GB hard drive for storage and install a Windows 10 Pro OS on the SSD card. So far so good, everything went fine, I had some issues setting up the hotkeys, but managed to do so. But then, I realized, that I can't make the integrated camera work. I pressed FN+F6, but no camera options showed, only audio and microphone settings. I checked the BIOS settings, the camera is enabled. I even tried to install the camera drivers for Windows 7 (no later version on support site), but it had no effect. Then I checked the Device Manager and saw that the camera does not even show up there (no "Imaging Devices" block, no wonder the driver install didn't do anything). I started googling and found some people who said they managed to solve this problem, but the solution had to do something with installing the OS on the original hard drive, and do some more magic, but to tell You the truth it wasn't so convincing, seemed like solution by lucky guesses. Does anyone have any idea about the source of the problem, and how to get the cam working? Or at least "seen" by the OS?thanks in advance,gábor

Hi, I have just bought a ThinkPad x220 (4293-AA6) with no OS installed. I am trying to install Windows XP (32-bit), but have not yet been successful.  I have carefully followed section in the User Guide called "Installing Windows XP", but this has not worked for me. In summary, the procedure I followed was: In BIOS, set "Serial ATA (SATA)" to "AHCI", Set "UEFI/Legacy Boot" to "Both" or "Legacy Only" (makes no difference to my problem)Boot from Win XP SP2 CDPress F6 when prompted, put the Lenovo "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver drivers" in floppy drive, and select "Intel MobileExpress Chipset SATA AHCI Controller". Hi all, I've just received my x220 refurb which I have upgraded immediately to 16gb of ram however its running 32bit version of windows so need to now install/upgrade to 64bit can an upgrade be done whilst keeping the partition for reinstalls? i.e. the recovery drive? If not can the recovery partition be recreated with windows 7 64bit? I don't want to lose all my Lenovo functions (programs settings etc.) but really need to utilise the extra ram (which is showing as being installed when you right click on computer but says usual 4gb) Thanks Ben

Answer:X220 - windows 7 32bit to 64bit upgrade?

You cannot upgrade directly to a 64bit version of Windows, so the better option is to format the drive, and install a fresh copy of the 64bit OS and install the necessary drivers by using the Lenovo System Update tool. You can use the key on the bottom on the machine but you'd have to call Microsoft to activate.

Error message pops up: "Windows could not be activated".  Error: 0x8007251d No records found for given DNS query. Laptop is under warranty but apparently the warranty no longer covers issues with the MS O/S?  Tech indicated that by inputting either the product key or the o/s license number @ boot-up should apparently resolve the problem but his instructions haven't so far opened any locations that prompted for or enabled input of either a key number or the license code. Thanks!

Answer:x220 "Windows could not be activated" Error Message

This is bad to know if the Operating System is not activated.
I can understand your issue very well. If the notebook has come with the pre-loaded Operating System then your Windows is activated and genuine.

Sometimes after changing the hardware Windows asks for the re-activation and then you can contact Microsoft.

If you are not getting support from Microsoft then not to worry you can reinstall the Operating System from the recovery disc.

Hi!some time ago I bought a Thinkpad x220. It was restored to factory condition. It only had one HDD which was split into the C: and Q: drives.A few days back I installed an SSD into the previously empty mSATA slot. The idea is, of course, that I have windows on the SSD and all my data on the Hard Drive. From what I gather the Q drive contains all the necessary files to do a factory reset. Can I apply this factory reset to the SSD? Is there a guide on how to do this?I've never worked with the Q-drive before and I'm hesitant to just try it out because I have a lot of important stuff on the C-drive that I don't want to lose.------------------------ Here's what I thought I could do, please tell me if that's a good idea 1). Copy an image of the Q-Drive onto a USB stick2). Remove the HDD from the laptop3). Use the USB stick to do a factory restore on the SSD. 4). Put the HDD back where it belongsThe only problem I see with this solution is that the image on the Q-Drive probably presupposes that the laptop it's doing factory reset on is equipped with a HDD, not an SSD. Is it possible that my SSD gets destroyed by this?

Answer:[Thinkpad x220]: Can I use the Q-Drive to put windows on a new SSD I installed?

HiIf you are happy with your current hdd, you might clone its entire content to the new msata SSD and then remove, resize partitions you don't need on both drives. And, finally, use msata SSD as bootable drive. Somewhere on the forum I posted detailed instruction, can't find that now. If you want I'll try to search. But the cloning task isn't so difficult.Note, Lenovo preload systems with win7 have 3 partitions. The 3rd partition - System_DRV - is a system, hidden one, includes Recovery Environment, is accessible from the Disk Manager.

I am experiencing very poor Virtual PC performance on my new X200 tablet. I have tried existing VHDs as well as brand news Windows 7 VM's created on the machine. VHD's that launch in 30 seconds on my two year old Toshiba tablet take over a minute to launch on my new X220 tablet. That Toshiba Portege M780 rates multiple points lower on the Windows Experience Index than the X220t. Lenovo loads more drivers and services on their out-of-box machine than I have every seen, so I can't help wondering if there is some driver or application impacting VM performance. I did uninstall and reinstall the latest version of RapidBoot (saw that post), but that didn't help the VM performance. Anyone else out there run VMs on their X220t? Thanks, C.C.

Answer:Virtual PC Performance on Windows 7 64-bit X220 Tablet

The Virtual PC (Windows Virtual PC) version for Windows 7 is much worse than older Virtual PC 2007. Have you enabled HW virtualization in BIOS ? It is required for Windows 7 host system. I've used Virtual PC 2007 on Windows XP host many years but since it is not supported by Windows 7 host anymore, I've moved to VirtualBox and haven't found any problem yet.

I received the Windows 7 rescue and recovery CDs from Lenovo (4 CDs total: 2 for operating system and 2 for applications and drivers) fo my X220. I was able to run the CDs, but once the CDs are complete, the computer asks if I want to restart. I click yes, but after that computer is not able to restart. It stays on black screen with cursor blinking on the upper left. After a while it tries restarting again, but always returns on the black screen with the blinking cursor. I have tried to change the boot order in BIOS from CD to hard drive, but still the same thing. At startup, the hard drive light is not blinking, so somehow it cannot access the hard drive. While running through R&R CDs the hard drive light blinks. I have tried running through the recovery CDs 3 times now, always the same thing. Sometimes, last recovery CD hangs up and does not complete the installation. Any help?

Answer:Windows 7 not able to start after rescue and recovery (X220)

Check out BIOS setup (boot mode). For using Recovery media that mode should be Legacy/MBR, not UEFI/GPT.

I just did a system restore of windows 8 (clean wipe) and went through the process of reinstalling all the drivers.  I installed the latest version SmartAudio (8.32.43.0).  In Google hang out it said the microphone wasn't working, then I clicked on the settings and made the internal mic the default, I got good mic for 1 second.  Did it again and the same thing.  But this is only for a single second.  In skype I tried the same thing and it is just super quite, it doesn't register on the scale unless I blow directly into the mic (so I know it's picking something up).  Last week I had my upgraded from win 7 Windows 8 install working just fine with the microphone (zero problems ever before with this thing).  I checked in mic properties and DB and volume are set to max.So what is it about the fresh install that is making the mic all cracked out? (I checked the SmartAudio settings too) I'm having issues with my Bluetooth mouse too(disconnects at restart and have to reinstall) and Power Manager (it doesn't show up as a toolbar anymore).  Anyone know what I can do to fix these issuesP.S.. I've gone to the X220 site and downloaded the latest drivers and installed system update.

I fixed it by going into the device manager and delete both Sound devices. One is a High Def Audio Device, the 2nd is some sort of Conexant thing I don't remember. After it restarted, two High Def Audio Device came back instead. Now the mic works fine on skype / other recording uses now.

I'm having trouble getting speedstep to work on my X220t running Win8 Pro x64. Below some settings that may be relevant. I'm hoping someone has been able to get this to work, because at the moment I only get 2h45min battery life with the Core i7-2620M always at 2.7GHz.  - I have BIOS 1.29- In the BIOS SpeedStep is set to be active when on battery- I have installed the latest Intel Chipset drivers (Version 9.3.0.1021)- I have installed the latest power management driver (1.66.0.22)- With the system on battery with low activity the CPU remains at 2.69GHz- In windows power options (Advanced) I have 'system cooling policy' set to 'passive'. Oddly in Windows power setings I don't see any explicit settings for throttling there. I recall that I used to be able to specify a minimum processor state. Maybe that points to the problem?  Has anyone seen the CPU speed change in Win8, and if so, any settings or drivers I need to change?   Image below of the CPU state while on battery and with low activity.

Answer:Speedstep not working on X220 tablet with Windows 8

Well shoot, after spending an hour installing drivers and searching online, the last clue in my post was the one that did it. I looked for 'minimum processor state' and found this page:  http://goo.gl/MHG8I Conclusion:  the Windows 8 System info page and the new task manager do not always display the actual clock speed. For comparison, on my Ativ Atom Z2760 system the Task Manager correctly shows the actual current clock speed (and it's varying a lot), while the System Info page shows the max clock speed of 1.8GHz. For this X220t on the other hand the Task manager display is stuck showing the max CPU speed only. Maybe a firmware update will fix this, not sure.  To see the actual speed on the X220t install CPU-Z, see screenshot below. In the screenshot the speed shows as less than 800MHz at the moment, and I see it ramp up when I do something CPU intensive.  Hope this helps someone else. It doesn't explain why the battery life is so bad though. Maybe the battery is just dying..

Performed a clean install of Win8 on x220 Tablet with brand new SSD (not an upgrade). The Start Menu GUI displays 'random touch glitches' (those highlights that appear when you actually touch the screen), which are invoking random apps. This is not happening on the desktop mode. Ran the Lenovo System Updater which provided a number of drivers but did not correct this issue. Then I installed the latest Wacom Windows 8 driver for Tablet PC but still this has not corrected the appearance of these random touch glitches. Anyone encounter this and find a fix? Hi,When I shut down the chrome browser, my x220 logs off windows. I'm still trying to pin-point the exact required conditions for the problem to happen, but I know it has to be running on the battery (never happens on the AC outlet).  Could this be a windows setting or some kind of configuration somewhere? EDIT: In perhaps the most embarrassing moment to have asked for help in my entire life, I restarted my computer and everything works fine now.  I must not have restarted after one of the drivers was installed for some reason.  This topic can be locked. ---- Original Post: Hello, I am a digital artist so I rely on the hardiness of my X220's pen/stylus/digitizer for a lot of my laptop use.  This fall my laptop had a virus that required it to be reset to factory settings, and so I decided it would be a good time to upgrade to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 7) before installing any programs.  I now have Windows 8.1 and it is working fine; however, my pen is not being detected by my system.  My fingers are being detected on the touchscreen, so I know the touch screen works.  I did not try my pen since resetting to factory settings, so I do not know whether it worked before I upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I would assume the issue is a missing driver, but I could not find the right driver on Lenovo's website and the digitizer update utility produces an error when I click "Update."  I was wondering if anybody had an idea for what I could do.  I would assume I am not the first person to try updating to Windows 8.1 on an X220, nor the first to reset an X220 to factory settings.  However, a brief search of Lenovo's support forums and of the internet has shown no solutions to my particular problem. Here are drivers I am us... Greetings one and all. In reviewing my options in ordering a X220, with MS 7 Pro, there is a screen where it states that if I want to have MS 7 Windows XP Mode the MS 7 64bit system will need to have at least 4 gb of RAM. I then have the option of choosing 'None' or 'MS 7 XP Mode - english'. If I choose to add XP Mode it the configuration automaticly boost the RAM up to 4 GBand as such a higher price. My question then is: Isnt XP mode already built into MS 7 Pro, or is this something extra?  I would rather order just 2GB of RAM and add more later, but I do want the ability to run older XP programs. TIA

Answer:X220 ordering question: Windows XP Mode option

Xp mode is native in Windows 7 but it won't run with only 2 Gb of ram. Windows 7 won't run very well with only 2 Gb of ram.

If you order it with 2 Gb then you'll get 1 stick of 2 Gb, if you order it with 4 Gb, you'll get 1 stick of 4 Gb.  If you want 8 Gb later, you'll just have to get 1 stick of 4 Gb.  If you get it with 1 stick of 2 Gb, then you'll have to buy 2 sticks of 4Gb in order to have 8 Gb.

I just installed Windows 8 Pro on my X220. It is a clean installation + the latest windows updates.I also installed all the Windows 8 device drivers published by Lenovo on the X220 device driver web site. I installed only the device drivers, not the utilities.I have no applications installed. When the system is idle, the 'System' process uses always 9% (more or less) of the CPU. This has big impact on the battery that now lasts only 2 hours. Previously, on Windows 7, it lasted more than double. Do you see the same problem? Any fix? Thanks!

My volume is now acting somewhat finicky after doing a few windows updates. The volume no longer shows the little HUD for the 1-50 volume. With the volume keys. Anyone else having the same issue? It's sort of bugging me.

Answer:Recent update messes up volume, X220 windows 7

Probably want to try reinstalling the Hotkey Integrations package.

So I have installed windows 10 on my x220. Everything is updateted, I have installed all the drivers, using new UEFI booting and all that - no problems using it EXPECT that +- every second boot i get stuck on login screen. I then have to hard turn off the notebook by holding the power button. Boot again and it boots with no problem at all. I tryied repairing windows instalation by repair media, no success. I am using fingerprint scanner to login. It says "There was an error, please repete the action" while it gets stuck on login screen. Also nothing connected to the notebook.I have made a short video of my problem and added comments of what is happining.Anyone can help, please?

HelloI just bought a mydigitalssd 128GB mSATA ssd. After I installed it windows no longer starts. It posts and I can access the BIOS menu but after that it freezes on a black screen for a long time and then flashes a BSOD and restarts. While it is frozen the battery indicator light (next to the bluetooth light) gets stuck on (normally it flashes during boot up).I have a day one pre-ordered x220 with the i7 processor. I updated to the 1.28 BIOS and nothing changed. Windows 7 x64 is installed on my primary drive (vertex 3 ssd). I only want to use the mSATA ssd for more storage. I don't want to install an operating system on it or anything. Right now it is not recognized in the BIOS menu.Any ideas for something to try? Is there some BIOS settings that I need to change? Does this sound like the behaviour of a defective mSATA ssd (strange that it would only prevent windows from starting)?Any help would be greatly appreciated! I need to figure this out quick since I may have to send the drive away for return. Thanks!

Answer:x220 installing mSATA SSD causes Windows to fail to start!

I have some new information that might help someone to understand my problem. It turns out that the mydigitalssd is recognized in the BIOS menu. It is listed as "SATA SSD" (there is no brand name or anything so I didn't notice it). Does anyone else have this mSATA SSD? If so, what is it named in the BIOS menu? When I start my computer it still freezes right when Windows should be starting. When I start it again it asks if I want to run Windows Error recovery. If I run it, it doesn't find any errors. After it ran though I used the advanced options and opened a command prompt. I was able to format the mSATA ssd, assign it a drive letter, etc. This means that the ssd works and that my computer can see it yet it still prevents Windows from starting! (If I take it out, WIndows boots normally). This is really frustrating. Any ideas? Do I need some different drivers? Also, when it freezes it flashes a BSOD before it restarts and I managed to take a picture so I could read the message. It is a Stop error (0x0000007B). If anyone can be of any assistance, please reply. I live in Japan and I don't speak Japanese well enough to get help from a computer technician here.
