x301 3G problem - Qualcom GOBI broadband option

Question: x301 3G problem - Qualcom GOBI broadband option

I have an issue with the Qualcom GOBI broadband option for Verizon. I can connect fine, but my machine will power off the wireless LAN radio after a few minutes (not consistant time period. It appears that this happens only when I am on battery power, which leads me to believe it is a power saving issue. I think I have changed all of the appropriate powersaving settings and even turned of the "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" in device manager, and it still persists. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64, the latest verizon access manager, and have mad sure all lenovo/qualcomm drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: x301 3G problem - Qualcom GOBI broadband option

Update: Still having this problem, except I was wrong about it only happening when I am on battery power. It happens regardless if I am on battery or plugged in. Can someone help?

I have a T400 with the built in Qualcomm Gobi card that was originally sold as Verizon only.  I have ATT and didn't want to switch so I was using an external card. I noticed that the latest version of the Lenovo driver said that it added ATT support.  I figured I would give it a shot. It took a lot of installing and uninstalling but I got it to the point where it would see the tower and try to get an IP address.  I had to go into the network properties of the Qualcomm card and enable IPv4 networking to get it to work.Just posting in case this helps someone else!Getting 1.81 Mb/S down and 1.23 Mb/S up with a 161 Ping but I only have a 48% 83dbm signal

I just got my X301, which came with an Intel 5300 wireless card, and I went to install the AT&T 3G BroadBand Option currently being sold in the accessory store. So, turns out, the 5300 card is a full-size mini PCI-Express card... So is the 3G card. Yet, as far as I can tell, I can only hook up one full-size card, and I guess the other slot is for a half-size card. This is behind the memory door. What's the best course of action I can take?

Answer:X301: Intel 5300 & WWAN Broadband Option Card

Hi CryptoQuick, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

There's a full-size slot under the keyboard. That's where it belongs. There are some nice movies showing how to install it, and other parts. The half-size slot is for Turbo Memory or Wireless USB.

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

Answer:Qualcomm Gobi Broadband Wireless

Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. I have the same card, and I'm able to connect via Access Connections. Access Connections (Advanced view) should have two profiles:HSPA Mobile Broadband -- this is the one for AT&TVerizon WirelessSelect HSPA Mobile Broadband profile, and it should walk you through connecting to AT&T. Good luck,

I was told by a sales rep that the 78Y1399 GOBI 2000 Broadband option would work for a T500.  I purchased the option and installed in into the T500 without a problem.  Fired up the system and was greeted with the unauthorized hardware message.  I ran the latest T500 bios update but that didn't address the problem.  Is there a utility or update that can authorize a Lenovo GOBI 2000 card in a T500?

Answer:T500 and GOBI 2000 Broadband

Hi pawj68, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Hmmm... the T500 Hardware Maintenance Manual doesn't list the newer GOBI 2000... just the Ericsson F3507g and Qualcomm UNDP1 (GOBI 1000).  Either of those will work.

Brand new HP Z Book 17 [email protected] It has the embedded 4211 GOBI LTE broadband device installed. (Verified by removing the cover and looking at the label pasted on laptop. The SIM was working in another laptop with no issues. SIM/IMEI was provided to Verizon and verified configured properly in the network. HP connection manager shows  broadband wireless connects to the Verizon network on the first try but there is no data connectivity. Unable to connect to anything with a browser. This is done without the laptop connected to any network. The laptop works perfectly on WiFi LAN and Wired LAN connections though. The HP connection manager show NOTHING in the "Mobile Broadband" tab which seems to indicate the HP connection manager is not talking to the GOBI properly even though it connects to the Verizon network. The lastest 4211 driver on the website appears to have issues during installation as it states "unsuccesfully installed" several times. HP, what is the issue here ? Brand new laptop, working SIM card, Wireless Broadband connectivity is no functional !!!!!!!!

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

This may seem like a stupid question, so forgive me. I am wanting to purchase the x230, and thinking about getting the gobi 4000 card.  However, my questions is this: I have a Verizon Wireless plan with truly unlimited data... one of those that got grandfathered in. Now, can I take the sim card out of my phone, plug it into the gobi card in the x230, and get Internet access? Thanks.

Answer:X230 question regarding the Gobi 4000 mobile broadband cards

Will you get Sierra Wireless mc7750 card (Gobi 4000 for Verizon Wireless, FRU 0A36318) inside of your laptop or install it yourself? If the answer is "yes", my answer for your question is "yes".But as I know Verizon doesn't need sim card for internet access, you just need to activate your modem with plan in carrier' network using Lenovo Mobile Broadband application. Download it from the site.

dell sells a gobi card,  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s...  , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier.  Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

Answer:T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it.  That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM).  A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card".  I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?

Hi, I have an X301 on order, and am trying to figure out how to connect my external peripherals (especially my DVI monitor) to it when I'm working at my desk. Ideally, I want a docking solution that allows me to connect a mouse, ethernet cable, keyboard and a DVI monitor at 1920x1200 resolution. Being able to connect a printer would be a bonus.  But from what I've read, the standard port replicator for the X301 only has USB ports, and the laptop itself only has a DisplayPort and a VGA port for graphics.  What's the best way to connect my DVI monitor and peripherals to the X301? Would you recommend: 1. Buying an Enhanced replicator: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-72822.html. It says this one is compatible with the X301 and it has a DVI plug. The thing I don't understand is whether the laptop connects to the dock through a USB connection and if that will degrade my video quality or permit me to obtain 1920x1200 resolution on the external display. 2. Buying a standard replicator for the peripherals and then connecting the monitor directly to the laptop using a DisplayPort to DVI adapter (something like this: http://www.centralsz.com/upload/product/20090519/20090519173445.jpg). The thing I don't understand here is that I thought DisplayPort and DVI signals are incompatible - does that mean video quality would degrade during the conversion process? Also, is it even possible to connect everything else through the port re... Read more

I am going to customize new x301 laptop, however i have some questions about Verizon wireless mobile broadband module. For AT&T, i know the hardware device, it's "Ericsson_F3507g_Mobile_Broadband_Module".Could anybody show me the hardware device of Verizon card?  Doing search on web, i just know it's "Verizon Wireless UNDP BroadBand Option"    If my x301 is built in Verizon card (from Lenovo customize), is it also supported GSM, HSPDA? And the sim slot is available (not white/blank slot) so that i can insert GSM sim card into? Do i need to activate or unlock Verzion on my laptop so  that i can use any GSM of any service providers? And how about AT&T wireless mobile broadband, is it the same? Please help me to clarification. Thank you so much.

The Verizon module is Qualcomm Wireless HS-USB Ethernet Adapter 9202 The Verizon module supports SIM card and 3G networks for international roaming via Vodaphone. No unlocking needed. AT&T SIM in the Verizon card may work, but is unsupported. The Ericcson card will connect to AT&T networks, but not Verizon EVDO.

I have noticed this problem on 2 X301 Systems. One running XP (SP3') one running Vista (SP2). On both machines the Vodafone Dashboard was used to connect to WAN. At first it worked but afer a while a message saying": "Mobile connection not possible. Ensure that no other programs are using your selected device, and try again in a short while", when trying to connect. On one machine running vista, i could bypass this problem by using the sony ericsonwireless manager. On the XP machine it couldn't find the card (the ericsonwireless manager). The WAN Module is active. Under Modems i can see the F3507g device, which is working normally. Also under Ports I can see 2 COM Ports dedicated to the module (Device Management and GPS Port). Its interesting that i can connect to WAN using the RAS/Dial-up connection. Ipconfig /all shows an external IP and I can surf the net.Are there any known Issues with the Vodafone Dashboard ( I am using latest one Dashboard Version 9.4.3.16284).A driver reinstall didn't help.

Answer:X301 & Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Modem

You can just dump the "dashboard" and connect using Dial Up Networking, those broadband "connection managers" are really QoS managers and can dynamically quash your throughput based on settings updated on connection and broader network policies. Cellular providers drop calls and WWAN connections duirng periods of congestion and WWAN cards suck up more bandwidth than multiple voice users and their QoS habits are illogical most of the time. You should already have an entry for your ISP within DUN and you can google for sites with the specific settings to recreate / experiment with your settings, one particular site is: http://www.mgmcc.myby.co.uk/GPRS_phone_settings_B.htm     (no affiliation)

After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

For some reason, when I start up, my computer is choosing to connect me to BT Fon or Openzone rather than my own BT HomeHúb connection. Where do I change the order of connection? I'm sure I have seen a choice screen but can't find it. Thanks in anticipation.

click on the wireless icon in taskbar, right Bt Homehub, click on properties, connection then check automatically connect when in range

Hope it is okay to ask this here?A friend has just had a new loptop bought for her by her hubby. She wants to go online for very basic surfing and email at home. They have NO fixed BT landline at home and don't want one installed. We've been pointed to Vodafone's mobile USB key deal for £15 per month. Seems fine for her needs. Are there any others we should look at and could be recommended please?

Had to do a reformat and Win7 64 bit reinstall.  Everything fine but the wireless.  Seems like when I first got this there issues with the Qualcomm Killer wireless.  From my specific downloads page for my system I downloaded the 2 network drivers:

Qualcomm Killer 1202 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver
 View details     File Name: Network_Driver_HXG7Y_WN_1.0.35.1064_A02.EXE

Realtek RTL8111F Ethernet Controller Driver
 View details  File Name: Network_Driver_26MJ5_WN_7.049.0927.2011_A01.EXE
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/31T6TZ1/drivers

Here is what I got:
With both drivers successfully installed I have the 4 network items in device manager with no yellow exclamation marks: Bluetooth (PAN), Bluetooth (RFCOMM), Atheros Quallcom Wifi 1202, and Realtek Lan.
Wireless networks appear, none will connect.
Plug in LAN cable and the wireless icon in system tray never switches over the the LAN icon.  Lan seems disabled.  Also shows LAN red x in Netowrk Sharing.
Using the Fn+Wifi turns off Bluetooth, removes both BT from Device manager, but doesnt affect wifi.

Way messed up drivers....  all thoughts welcome.

HI All,
I am having an odd issue with Mobile broadband properties.
I have two devices running windows 7 enterprise edition, my first device connects to 4G with no issues.
I am attaching the screen shot from device 1 which shows three tabs
Subscription,Profile,Security in which i am able to enter all the necessary details for 4G authentication
Device 1

While on second device it comes with a dialouge box shown below, and it fails to connect.
Device 2

when trying to enter the details and press continue, even though it comes up with a prompt shown above for device 1.It doesn't have the tab profile, and the connection fails.
I would like to know, how i can change the prompt for Device 2 so that it shows up like device 1 when i try to connect.
We can rule out the issues with
1)sim as i have tried multiple ones, all fails in device 2.
2)both are running same software build of win 7
3)All drivers are up to date + windows updates

Hope some one can help me out with this issue, if the above mentioned scenario is not clear please let me know.
so i can explain bit more further needed.

Cheers From Australia

hy,
i have question about 10147 release. does anyone else have WiFi drops? it happens like 5-10 times a day. usualy when i search for windows updates(maybe a coincidence?) or when i reboot the pc. then i troubleshooted a bit, i figured out that WLAN autoconfig service stops working. if i restart the service all starts to work again. how can i prevent those kinds of wifi drops? in the mean time, wifi button gets grayed out and the list is empty, like no wireless is in range (it figures .. since service is not running i guess). i checked the event viewer and saw that many services drops out from time to time including sound (realtek). any suggestions would be appreciated. got a clean install here.
thanks

Hi guys I purchased an open box new 7448-CTO X200 Tablet last week (4 a great price) and migrated to Win 7 64via clean install. All is well, snappy and stable. Also did an update with "ThinkVantage System Update 4.0"so all the application dependencies and co-requisites are properly done. My request from you guys is this: 1-I like the look & feel of the original "Lenovo" desktop and all the customizations before the clean install,is there a way to get all that back? 2-I ordered a 3G BroadBand option so I can have total freedom wirelessly but after 2 weeks Lenovo justcancelled my order tonight wit an "EOL" (end of life) message. Dear all I have just bought this tablet Lenovo ThinkPad X201T model 2985-DLG before yesterday. Since then, I am trying to use my G3 SIM card. The Broadband tab is dim in the Access Connections, and I noticed that its option is absent in the wireless radio software.I have contacted the support team in SBM (the Saudi side of IBM) and they provided me with a link to a very long list of drivers most of which are for other OS versions. I noticed that most of the drivers suggested were already done and the Thinkpad is up to date including the bios.for more clearifying, I did not install my SIM card untill now. I am in the struggle of getting the broadband (WWAN) alive. Any suggestions or solutions will be very appreciated. Abdullah Al-Azraqi, PhDCollege of Health SciencesUniversity of Dammam

Answer:The Broadband tab is dim and its option is absent in the wireless radio software

Hi and welcome to the forum!

The option is dim because your model is only WWAN ready, i.e. the internal antennas are there, however there is no WWAN card installed in it.

Have a look at the support page of your model:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=2985DLG

WWAN option is same as WWAN ready. You can buy the card from lenovo though.

Hope this helps.

Question: X301 Video Problem

I am experiencing a weird problem on my X301/XP-Pro.  Randomly, when the machine is not used for a while, instead of the screen saver coming on, the screen goes blank.  Hit a key and the prompt comes up saying machine is locked, scan your finger (or ctrl-C/username/password).  Do either and blank background comes up but no icons or anything else.  Can't make the machine do anything.  Ctrl/alt/del does nothing, ctrl/shift/esc doesn't bring up task manager, etc.  Only solution is to hard power off. Machine has all the latest drivers and BIOS.Anyone have any ideas?

Hi, I recently had problems with screen/graphics corruption on a X301 (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6FNk4FH3Ik ). I found out that this only occurs when on battery power and when the "Intel Smart 2D Technology" at the power settings tab in the graphics driver panel is enabled (which it is by default). Is anybody else experiencing this? I am worried that that this might not only be a driver issue but could be related to an underlying hardware problem...

Answer:X301 graphics problem

I just had a different graphics problem but if there is some underlying chip issue, maybe they're related. I logged in and the resolution was changed to what looked like 640x480 and it said 4 bit color (note, not a setting you can normally do).  Going into screen properties, I changed it back to high resolution, 32 bit color, but it wouldn't change.  And the screen still thought it was at the high resolution because only a little bit of the screen could be seen (i.e., a 640x480 chunk out of the high resolution of 1440x900). Rebooted several times including turning the machine off  (i.e., shut down rather than restart) but the problem was still there on a regular login (safe mode seemed ok).  Reloaded the video driver.  Deleted the video devices and let it reboot and find them.  Reinitialized the BIOS.  Nothing fixed it. Finally said restore to an earlier restore point.  Got an error message saying couldn't execute the restore point.  But then after that error, it was fixed. Anyone ever seen anything like that on XP SP3?  Or know what I did to fix it?

Hi I have a very strange and really annoying problem with all my pointing devices ? both internal and external USB mouse. The hardware is working properly as have tested it with the build in support tool. When I press the left mouse button and hold it down it releases automatically after a split second, making it impossible to select multiple icons or make drawings in Paint, Auto Cad etc.. The ClickLock function is not working either - not that I want to use, but I found out that i wasn't working during my trail-and-error. All drives is updated ? the issue has been like this for approximately 1 month now and I can't recall and sw installations that triggered this bug. Any help would be very appreciated. Best regards,Peter

Answer:X301 WInXP install problem

You need to go into BIOS by pressing F1 at system start.  Choose Config and change the SATA Mode to compatibility.
Press F10 to save and exit.  Once you install XP, make sure that you install the IMSM driver.  After installing the IMSM driver, repeat the BIOS Process and change the SATA mode back to AHCI.

Olaf, You are lucky as you say that it worked before.  Recommend you use Windows system restore and  go back to a date that it was working, this should solve it.  If you have installed applications or updates past that date they will need to be reinstalled. Mark

Hello All, I hope someone can help with a problem hat has been driving me nuts for a while now. I have a Thinkpad X301 with all latest Lenovo Updates and Windows 7 64bit SP1. (The issue has existed since before SP1 was installled) Simply, any program (usually a game) that uses direct X fails. My screen flashes black in what looks like several different resolutions and then i get a message that the specified program failed. dxdiag also fails (crashes) BUT if i ignore Direct3D when i restart DXdiag it will work and tells me Direct3D, Directdraw etc are not available. Here is the kicker though... If I run dxdiag in 64bit (option on the bottom of dxdiag on 64bit machines) Direct3D, DirectDraw etc all report as fine and everything seems fine. If i run dxdiag in 32bit again it crashes until I tell it to ignore Direct3D. back to 64bit, all working again. I have tried, downgrading graphics drivers, using latest Lenovo Drivers, using latest Intel generic drivers, upgrading and downgrading sound drivers too.. all to no avail. The games I want to run are not in any way demanding, Sid Meires Pirates for example plus several that are listed on Intels own site for the Series 4 Mobile range as compatible. Can anyone help? I have tried so many things over the last few months I am not too sure what to try next. The last resort is I wiped and reloaded Windows 7, same problem returned. Kind regards, Kevin.

Answer:Thinkpad X301 DirectX problem

So what other games have you tried to play? I haven't tried the pirate games, but most of these games are pretty old, have you tried to run them in the compatibility mode? Windows 7 64 bit may have problem supporting these old games.

Just installed windows 7 on an x301 previously running windows xp. when connected to a recent edition Dell 30" monitor via the Lenovo display port to DVI adapter, connecting to a dual-link dvi cable, I can't get a resolution on the monitor higher than 1280x1060. That same monitor is serving out 2500x to a macbook that I have, so it's not the monitor. I tested the x301's vga output to a dell 21" monitor that had a vga input (the 30" monitor doesn't have a vga input) and was able to get 1600x, which is probably that 21" monitors top resolution. I've updated all of the video drivers (am running the very latest  8.15.10.1986 intel driver). I've updated all the lenovo drivers. Everything is working perfectly except for this external resolution. Any advice?

Answer:X301 - Problem creating Product Recovery Disc

machdeuce, welcome to the forum, which OS do you have installed? I have noticed that, using Vista, that the Vista "autoplay" function interferes with creating recovery discs. It sort of "takes over the drive". When required, insert the blank disc and click on the OK button before the Vista " autoplay has a chance to run. The autoplay dialogue field will come up and show the usual; copy files to disc etc., but you can then just close it without worry as the R&R has already received it's "orders" and will continue without problems.  Hope this helps

You need to install Thinkvantage GPS software, but without phone provider, it will work like a stand-alone GPS (outside with line-of-sight to satellites).

Hi, I have just purchased a refurbished X201t that has a Gobi 2000 WWAN installed. How do I set this up?  I assume that I need to install a SIM card but I can't find any information on how to do so. Thanks  Simon.

Answer:Setting up Gobi on X201t

If your X201 is WWAN ready there should be a slot for the SIM card behind the battery. Also there should be a slot for the WWAN adapter which i believe should be under the keyboad, but not 100% for sure for the X201. If the computer is WWAN ready there should be two wires for the antenna by the slot for the adapter. Then you need to download and install the driver and that's basically it. The Thinkpads usually got a whitelist in BIOS for these kind of cards so if you buy a Gobi 2000 WWAN card from Lenovo should work fine, but buy it somewhere else might give you a error that says "Unauthorized hardware" during post. I'm not sure if this is the case here, but if you install the card i guess you will find out If you have some problems with these steps please explain what part where you have some questions like finding the SIM slot, installing the card, installing the drivers and so on. -gan

Hi Everyone Question to the forum:I've got X201T with Gobi 2000, and an EVDO subsciption.Currently using the USB modem that comes with the subscription, and trying to use the Gobi.I cannot connect to the provider (SMART TELECOM) using Access Connection software from Lenovo. The error I get is "SIM card found. Unable to retrieve IMSI." What am I missing here? CheersNick

Answer:X201T with Gobi 2000

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

Question: Gobi 4000 issue

Coworker just bought both of us Gobi 4000 cards. I have a T420 and he has an X220. Both machines boot fine with the cards installed (no white list error), I even got the drivers installed successfully on both. The antenna does not turn on via the software switch. I tried the broadband activation software but it's not recognizing that an installed product. Access Connections kept referring me to use the broadband activation software lol! Any ideas?

Answer:Gobi 4000 issue

What Operating System are you running on your ThinkPads?

For the past week my Verizon connection won't disconnect.  If you click disconnect in the Windows control panel and in VZ access manager it does not complete the process and stays connected.  No error, just doesn't disconnect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the driver and VZ Access Manager.  No change. Interesting, I uninstalled the Lenovo driver and VZ Access Manager.  Then I installed the Lenovo driver.  As soon as the Lenovo driver was installed Verizon was connected and I cannot disconnect. In Windows, under properties, I have selected "Do not automatically connect" and in VZ Access Manager I have selected "NDIS - Manually connect".  Does not have an impact.   It's like the connect switch is forced on and I don't know why.  I am out of ideas and need some of yours.  This is an X201 with Windows 7 and the latest drivers and VZAM version.  It's a domain machine too.   Thoughts? Thanks! Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

I just placed an order a T410 with Mobile Broadband Gobi 2000 GPS 3G.I selected Open SIM card for Verizon May I ask if this card support GSM (e.g. able to use GPRS, EDGE and 3G)? Is it unlock and could be use with any GSM carriers around the globe? (I am frequent traveller and have to switch the mobile number quite often) Thanks for the information, I appreciated!James [Update]: I just called the Technical support to ask about this and the technician told me that, I cannot use other SIM card than Verizon one. This means I have to stick with Verizon Open SIM forever???? Is it true???

Answer:Gobi 2000 GPS 3G is unlocked and is GSM?

well...the answer to both of your questions is YES.Verizon tech support (and it's NOT the first time i encounter it...) knows nothing regarding the Gobi.

Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... I have a question. Does anyone know if a GOBI 3000 works in a T410?  I am aware that the 1802 error may be an issue but I was wondering none the less. Thanks.

Answer:T410 able to use GOBI 3000?

Welcome to the community. Looking at this driver page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001273I'd presume that you could. hth. Eta: hmmm... Not sure now. The item at the link above is the activation program. The readme talks about a driver, but I don't see it on the matrix at: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74582Odd... Last edit: found the referenced Gobi 3000 driver here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77035No mention of the T410 in the readme. Sorry if I caused confusion.

So I got a SSD for my T410 and thought what the hell lets go for Windows 8. All is sweet apart from my Gobi 2000 mobile broadband. I found some beta Windows 8 drivers and after learning Access Connections is not supported on Windows 8, I downloaded and installed the Dependency Package. Now when I launch Lenovo Mobile Broadband Connect I get the message "Mobile Broadband device not found". In Windows 8 under Networks side bar, it just says "Mobile Broadband (Off)". Any ideas?

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

Qualcomm has recently released 4G LTE compatible Gobi 4000 card. Is Lenovo planning to sell the card as an upgrade accessory? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Gobi 4000 at Lenovo

hey mariner, welcome to the forums and indeed Qualcomm did release a 4G compatible card, as whether or not Lenovo will be selling the card is hard to say.as Lenovo will normally run test on the card to ensure compatibility before selling it.

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

It now looks like Lenovo is now only offering the Gobi 4000 AT&T version withthe new X1 Carbons. Just prior to launch they were listing the Ericson 3G card. Anyone know if we can swap out the AT&T Gobi 4000 one for a Verizon Gobi? How aboutthe laptops that came with the Ericson, can we just replace the WAN card witheither Gobi 4000? Will the Bios not block any of these options? Is the antennasetup the same?

Answer:X1 Carbon NOW WITH GOBI 4000? LTE AT&T

Well this is very odd. The disassembly photos here clearly show it only supports a half height card.I found this page which shows an Ericson card, but has GOBI 4000 listed under physical specs (with the model number for a full-size GOBI 4000).

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more
