I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:W520 Trackpoint Scrolling Doesn't Work In Lightroom

There's a special rules list for TrackPoint scrolling under "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\TP4table.dat". Not sure how to define a rule though.

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

Touchpad doesn't respond, and when I press trackpoint middle button it acts as a mouse wheel (opens links in a new tab, scrolls only if I press it on the empty space) or sometimes doesn't work at all. I had drivers for ps/2 mouse and keyboard installed , if I try to install drivers from lenovo site, I get an error : Synaptics device not found!

Hi,   I bought an X61 (type: 7673-BE9) last month. Now I have met a trackpoint issue. It will not work at any time: no response to left and right buttons, no response to the red stick. If I reboot the system, it maybe works or doesn't. In the later case,  I noticed that there was a yellow exclamation mark before trackpoint in the hardware management.   I have tried to reinstall the trackpoint driver(4.62), but it was helpless. Answer:X61 trackpoint doesn't work

Hi, Im experiencing exactly the same Problems on my X61. I was using Windows Vista for three month and had no problems at all. The strange mouse behaviour just started after installing Windows XP. The funny thing is that the mouse stops working some seconds after the GUI boot. So i tried to kill all of the trackpoint tasks running, but I didnt find any task being responsible for this behaviour. My next try will be to stop some drivers and see if I can find the problem here.Did you find any other solution?Best regards, dkirsten

I have this same issue on my ThinkPad Twist with Windows 10 and Excel 2013.  I found that rolling back the Synaptics driver cures the scrolling issues in Excel.  However, rolling back the driver makes you lose your Synaptics Trackpoint/Pad specific control panel.

I have upgraded my old T410i with some extra RAM and an SSD. The system works great and fast. There is one problem. I have noticed that although my trackpoint and right and middle button (above trackpad) work like the should the left button (above trackpad) doesn't. I thought this has to work like the left mouse button or the left button under the trackpad but it doesn't. I have the latest bios version 1.45 installed and the latest drivers. I have also tried to detach the keyboard and attached it again. After that I tried to disable the trackpoint in the bios and enable it again. This doesn't help either. Maybe it is a defective key because all the other functions and keys do work. Is there something overlook?

Hi,

I bought my Satellite A200 (psae3e)3 months ago with Vista. I sent my computer to a lab and asked them to install XP. Everything seems to work just fine besides the scroll function on the touch pad.

I tried everything from installing the sinaptics and alps driver again to digging into any configuration. I could find related to the mouse in the control panel. Also tried the FN key + f12 (supposed to turn the scroll on and off) with no success.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Lee.

Answer:Satellite A200 - scroll functions doesn't work in WXP

Hi,

the FN + F12 is not for the Scroll function of the TouchPad. This is like the SCROLL LOCK key on a Keyboard.

And you don?t need to install the driver from Synaptics and ALPS. Only install the driver for your Touchpad.
After installing the right driver, I would go to the Properties for the Touchpad and maybe there is a function to activate and deactivate the scroll function.

So I bought a new Inspiron 15 5578 2-in-1 laptop and noticed I can only scroll using 2-fingers.
I want to be able to scroll with one finger but there are no settings to do this.
I want to be able to linearly scroll (up and down) without having to use 2 fingers.
When I attach a USB mouse, the scroll works but I want to be able to do that without a mouse.
I have also toggled the scroll lock using the on-screen keyboard but still nothing.
Operating System: Windows 10

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

So recently my laptop Pavilion DV6xxx updated the OS to Windows 10 64 bit and for some reason the touch pad works, but the scrolling system i.e. the designated scroll bar partition doesn't scroll any more. I have the Synaptics Pointing device software and my system is up to date in drivers yet it doesn't work. Please help as not being able to scroll with the touch pad is a huge inconvenience.

I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 8.1.

I absolutely love the two finger scroll feature. It's very convenient in web browsers and the start menu. However, it doesn't always work, and I can't find a trend for when it works. It simply works sometimes and not others.

Where can I configure the settings so that I always have two finger scroll?

Answer:Two finger scrolling doesn't always work

Thru playing around I found that 2 finger scroll won't work if one finger starts off of the edge of the pad. Make sure that both fingers plant on the pad itself when starting a scroll. I operate my pad with my left hand and I had a lot of trouble accidentally hitting the left edge when I first got win 8. I long ago disabled whatever the left edge swipe was. The same might be true for the right edge for right-handers.

Currently 2 finger scroll is reliable for me. I guess it could also be a driver issue with your particular pad.

Hello,

Been through internet trying to look for an answer for my problem; how do I apply scrolling, pinching etc. on my touchpad?

Scrolling has never been working with this laptop (2 months old), and before now, even moving cursor was unreliable, since sometimes when launching the laptop the touchpad was completely dead and didn't react to anything.

Now there doesn't seem to be problems with that since I uninstalled touchpad driver and restarted my computer, but still scrolling doesn't work.

Troubleshooting for this problem has been no good.
They all lead you to first search for mouse in start screen -> mouse properties -> advanced and from there you can adjust mousepad settings.

I don't even have this tab on my laptop, while all other ones are there (buttons, pointers, pointer options, hardware).

How can I adjust touchpad settings on Satellite z30-A-1DJ?

Answer:Scrolling doesn't work on Satellite Z30-A-1DJ

The mentioned touchpad features should be supported by software as well as hardware.
There are different touchpad standards like Synaptics, Alps as well as Elan which support different features and different software.

In case such software isn?t installed or does work properly, the touchpad scrolling as well as other features would not be available.
It could be also possible that the built-in touch module would not support additional features.

From my knowledge the Satellite Z30-A-1DJ should be equipped with an Alps Electric touchpad and this touchpad is different and does not support the same settings liek Synaptic or ELAN touchpad.

However, as you mentioned, the additional settings for Alps Electric touchpad can be found in
control panel ? mouse ? last tab (Advanced)

If you want, you could try to install the Synaptics touchpad driver which was released for other notebook series like Portege Z10T-A

I?m not quite sure if this Synaptics software would work properly in connection with the Alps electric touchpad but its definitely worth a try.

I open the mouse configuration window (fn+F5), then I go in option of the Ultranav menu and click to apply... and the scrolling works but its boring to do that after each reboot... I already have untick all the box at the end of ultranav menu. If someone can help me ?!

Hello! I have installed the Win 10 enterprise LTSB the trial version. So far, so good, with the exception of two details:

- The scrolling of inactive windows isn't working properly. I mean, it works only when the "Settings" window is the active, then I can scroll the inactive windows underneath it, but nothing else.

- I tried to update the system, hoping that it would fix the issue, but it doesn't download anything.

Maybe the update function is disabled in the trial version?

EDIT:

I updated it, but that still didn't fix the problem.

Answer:Scrolling inactive windows doesn't work

One more edit;

Maybe it has something to do with synaptic touchpad driver? I couldn't find anything related to it. I tried it on my desktop, it works with the mouse, but here on my laptop it doesn't.

Hello everyone! I updated to Windows 10 this morning, and after doing so realized that my side scrolling on my mouse pad (I'm on a laptop) doesn't work anymore. Googled, found out it was a driver issue, and went to download the correct driver.

However, acer aspire drivers don't have the touchpad driver updated for Windows 10 yet. Do I have to wait until the driver comes out to fix this issue? If so, any idea how long that could take? (They have the important drivers updated already, those for bluetooth and wifi)

Answer:Touchpad scrolling doesn't work after Windows 10 upgrade

I don’t know what notebook model you have but fact is that not all notebook series are supported for Win 10 upgrade.
In such case the Win 10 drivers will not be released for such unit….

The touchpad scrolling requires additional touchpad driver…
If your unit supports Synaptics touchpad, you could also use the driver from Synaptics driver page:
http://www.synaptics.com/en/drivers.php

But currently driver for Win 10 isn’t available… you could try to install and use the Win 8.1 driver but I’m not quite sure if it will work properly….

I have been facing this issue from the day one since I installed Windows 10 on my laptop (Dell XPS L502x).

Native Windows Applications like all browsers, office products etc. anything that is not from the Store, works fine. I can use Touch Pad scrolling with no trouble. e.g. on Internet Explorer, Chrome, MS Word, etc.

But the apps that come out of store or the apps like those which come pre-built with Windows 10 such as new Settings UI, Microsoft Edge. Touch Pad scrolling just don't work with these apps. When I perform scrolling the scroll-icon appears but doesn't scroll the content.

This issue is only with Touch Pad. External Mouse works great with scrolling on any kind of app.

Hope to find a solution here.
Thanks

Answer:T42 ethernet port doesn`t work and screen sticks when scrolling

Installing the driver is just the first part of the process, after that you must go into Win subfolder and run the setup files from there. For instance, your graphics driver would be in C>Drivers>Win>Video and your Ethernet in C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet

You get the idea.

Don't forget to download the chipset driver available on T42 driver page.

Good luck.

I have an X1 Carbon that I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. All the drivers were properly updated as part of the upgrade and most everything is working nicely, except that two-finger scrolling doesn't work in the Metro apps (Edge, PC Settings, etc.). Two-finger scrolling works perfectly everywhere else, just not in the Metro apps. Both Windows Update and Lenovo System Update report that everything is up-to-date. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics drivers but it didn't help. I'm running version 19.0.17.27 of the Synaptics pointing device driver. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Two-finger scrolling doesn't work in Windows 10 for metro apps

Bump.

Another interesting data point is that my work computer (a Lenovo T440p) is also running the same version of the Synaptics driver (19.0.17.27) and two-scrolling works fine everywhere, so the problem seems to be model-specific.

The previous driver allowed for edge scrolling but latest version does not have the capability.I understand for those upgrading to Windows 8 with touch screen capability this is not an issue but what about us who do not have touch screen. In my opinion this is a major flaw. Please let me hear form you if you too are unhappy about the new Windows 8 Touch pad driver. By the way, I tried rolling the driver back but the previous driver causes serious erratic behavior. Below is a screen shot of the version for the newest Windows 8 Touch Pad driver.

This problem appears on Windows 8.1

Answer:[Dell touchpad] one finger scrolling feature missing on Windows 8 doesn't work

Try this:
1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\
2) In this dir I have
  a)  DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.
  b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

I have a t430 2342CTO with the latest ultranav drivers installed. I have seen screenshots of older versions of the driver where you can select smooth scrolling for the trackpoint. I was wondering if there is any way to enable this behavior in the current driver. Also, is there any way I can change the amount of lines scrolled by the trackpoint? Changing the windows setting only seems to affect the touchpad, not the trackpoint. Perhaps there is a registry setting or something?

Answer:Trackpoint smooth scrolling

Hi ben_jminw,

You should be able to change those settings under control panel > mousepad > unltranav.
How to use the TrackPoint center button - ThinkPad

Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v16.2.21
If you're using this driver then try using a previous version.

Hi!First: this is no problem-request but a solution for everybody with the same problem. I had the problem, that TrackPoint scrolling did not work in some programs. There are some posts available about correcting this issue, but there seems to be a change in the driver, so there needs to be done some changes. I mainly will refer to this post from Elad Karako, because it has a list of programs, where scrolling does not work. This post, the same as others, recommends to edit the file TP4table.dat in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP directory. I just updated my T540p with a 3-button touchpad and had the problem, that in some applications the TrackPoint scrolling does not work (Notepad++, Total Commander, ...)Unfortunately the rules did not work. But in newer drivers there is a further option available. The flags has been updated with the option16 Rule indicate the apply this to IBM Stick Scrolling when ScrollMethood is Synaptics. This means, that if the rule should apply to the scrolling done with TrackPoint, the flag needs to be increased by 16. I also had the problem, that the listed option WheelStd did not work in my case. After playing around I found out that Standard worked. So I updated the rules to the following and added them to the upper part of the file TP4table.dat: ; Process Explorer
*,*,*,*,*,PROCEXPL,Standard,0,25
; Notepad++ and Notepad2
*,*,*,*,*,Scintilla,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad2U,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad++,Standard,... Read more

Answer:TrackPoint scrolling not working

Excellent detective work both here and with one line scrolling; the TP4table.dat compatibility listing doesn't seem to have been updated for a long time.

I am using MS Office 2007 on my Lenovo X60 with 2GB RAM and Win XP Proffesional.  I cannot scroll pages in MS Word 2007 using the standard scrolling type setting in the mouse properties dialog box in the control panel.  When I change the scrolling type setting to auto-select I am able to scroll but the scrolling is so fast that I cannot control it. Moreover, the scrolling does not work at all in either standard or auto-select mode in some of the MS Office dialog boxes.  I have upgraded to the latest trackpoint driver, but that does not seem to improve the situation.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling speed on X60

I think that when you set the scrolling type in mouse properties to auto, you simply use the standard mouse-wheel click auto-scrolling feature of Office. Check if you can find any Office setting that allows you to adjust the auto-scrolling speed.

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling problem

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

Answer:trackpoint scrolling on T21 not working

If you need to reinstall the Trackpoint driver for your unit, here is the link below: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4KMUYL Download and save this file to the desktop and the open the folder and run the setup.exe file You might also need the Trackpoint Accessibility Driver, which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4Z9QVD See if installing these two drivers will help you. If the drivers are installed correctly and you are still having problems with the trackpoint scrolling, it could possibly be a mechancial issue and the part would need replacement. Let me know if this helps you any. Mark

One of the more persistent (of several) problems plaguing my P50 (20EN) is the spastic, herky-jerky scrolling when using the TrackPoint with middle button. This is far and away the worst trackpoint I have ever used, and I've used a lot of trackpoints over the last 20 years. There are only two TrackPoint settings on this machine, and neither is relevant to this issue:? The 'ThinkPad' tab in the Windows 10 'Mouse Properties' panel has a checkbox to enable and disable TrackPoint globally and radio buttons to select the middle button function.? The Synaptics Control Panel has a slider for controlling the TrackPoint scrolling speed. TrackPoint has always stood out on my list of reasons for buying ThinkPads in the first place, so this is issue particularly poignant for me, and, frankly, I'm close to my wit's end on this one. Please, someone tell me there exists a solution.

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway. But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest a... since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

Hello, everyone! I'm having an issue with zooming inside autocad using the center mouse button on the laptop and the trackpoint. Whenever I try to zoom using the trackpoint, my drawing disappears and the entire autocad window seems to move up or down. Using the mousewheel on a USB mouse works just fine. Research about this issue reveals that it has been common for thinkpads since at least the T60, but all such questions go unanswered. Please tell me if there is a way to use the trackpoint to zoom and pan. I'd really like to enjoy the benefit of not having to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse.

When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it? Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

Yeah, this is easy in Linux can't we get some pressure to actually get this implemented properly in windows. Useability is the main reason i got a thinkpad it would be nice to know we could actually influence it in some way. (Bumping an old topic here)

Hi all, I pretty much always use my Trackpoint to scroll (with the middle button). But several sites I visit see horizontal scrolls as triggers to change page. So, I'll be reading a page, scrolling down via the Trackpoint -- and at some point I'll have deviated enough from vertical to trigger the horizontal behavior -- and I'll then be shuttled off to a page I don't mean to be on. Is there any way to configure the Trackpoint scroll to ONLY scroll vertically? If not, is there perhaps a way to get Google Chrome to stop listening to the horizontal scroll? Thanks, it's actually quite a PITA for some sites I visit.

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

Hi, I am attempting to fix a problem with scrolling in Windows 10 (also applicable to Win 8/8.1). Everything works as it should within non-Windows programs, but "apps" and Windows OS screens do not allow scrolling. I am using the most recent (Windows 7) Lenovo driver. I have tried installing the Ultranav version (updated for Windows 8) but it will not allow it. Any ideas on how to get a working driver installed on this machine? Everything else seems to be working flawlessly.

I am having a problem with scrolling within the Quicken 2005 program. The scrolling wheel on my Microsoft wireless mouse will only work in the up direction, no matter which way the wheel is spun. I was toying with the idea of reinstalling the program, but maybe it just won't work with Windows 7.

I have the same program on an adjacent computer with Windows XP and scrolling works fine. It is odd to have an account screen open and try to scroll up then down and only go in the up direction.

I suspected that it might be where the mouse was plugged into the keyboard and changed it to directly into a USB port on the back of the Dell Studio that I have with Windows 7 as an operating system. It did not make any difference.

Help would be appreciated. Does anyone know a fix or do I have to reinstall the program?

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. Most of the time when I try to use the middle button to scroll, it starts off trying to scroll horizontally, which I then have to overcome to scroll vertically. I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 8918, which has Alps TrackPad and TrackPoint. However it is well known problem that when the computer is awaken from suspend or hibernation it loose ability to scroll (in my case TrackPoint stop scrolling with middle button pressed). I tested over 7 different ALPS driver versions found on the Internet, but any of the does not have scrolling type 1 for TrackPoint (standard smooth scrolling with scrollbar cursor). On couple forums people wrote that ALPS drivers from late 2010 have the problems with loosing scrolling fixed. However Lenovo Support did not release any new version of the driver for Windows 7 for model 8918 (with Alps stuff). Is it possible that someone at Lenovo would take mercy on us, users of 8918 with Windows 7, and release newest drivers from ALPS with all the stuff related to ThinkPads trackpoints???

I believe you need the UltraNav drivers, not the ALPS drivers.

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

Hi all, I really like using the Trackpoint to scroll. But an increaing number of Web sites react to horizontal scrolling by jumping to other pages. So, for example, if I'm reading down a page -- and if I need to use the Trackpoint to scroll down as I'm reading -- if I'm not perfectly vertical when I pull down on the Trackpoint, the Web site detects it as a horizontal scoll, and I get whisked off to another page. I can't be the only person having this problem? Is there some way to disable the Trackpoint from scrolling horizontally without disabling it from scrolling vertically?

I enabled the "tap zones" feature in the Synaptics touchpad settings and configured the zones to right click and middle click. I notice that sometimes the zones stop working while tapping and navigating are still ok. It turns out that scrolling with the middle button and the trackpoint somehow prevents the tap zones from working.A quick fix is to move the cursor using the trackpoint, move it again using the trackpad, then the zones will function normally. However the fix isn't permanent.I hope that Lenovo / Synaptics will address this small issue in the next touchpad driver update.

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine.   I know you can move the screen around like a cell phone, fine and dandy.   What seems to happen is somewhere out of the blue (and ocurring more frequently ) if I try to move it via scrolling in any way other than the right side scroll bar the screen goes larger and smaller.  At the same time if I try to type anything in a search box each key acts as a function instead of a letter.    The only solution is to restart and it goes away for a while.    Could this be an unintended key I am striking or is it yet another problem relating to the scroll function of this computer series / win 8 program?   It hasn't done it since I bought it in Dec 2013 but seems to be happening more and more often.    Thanks .

Answer:Why does my touch scrolling suddenly resize and keystrokes turn to functions.

It actually does sound like you're striking a key.
I've had the keyboard go whacky as you describe and always found it easier and faster to reboot it, than to figure out which key it is that I keep hitting.
I imagine that the "guilty" key is what is also affecting the scroll too.

On my L420, i had it set so i can move the mouse with my thumb and scroll with my index finger with the center trackpoint button.

However, the Ultranav options are different for the W541, so, (as far as i can tell) i can't find the option to replicate this.

See screenshots of my configuration.

Basically, i want my center trackpoint button to be always in "scroll" mode, without the need to press the middle button and scroll like on the L420.

Hello,

I have just received my new X240 Laptop which has Windows 8 OS installed.
For some reason, the TrackPoint is disabled and I can't enable it to make it work.

I checked even the BIOS setting and found that it's enabled just fine.
The touchpad works and I have the latest driver of UltraNav 18.0.7.40 but the TrackPoint doesn't work.

I also tried to go to a previous driver of UltraNav but no luck.

Do you have any idea how I can enable the TrackPoint? under the control Panel it seems Disabled.

Regards,Noam

Answer:New X240 touchpad works but TrackPoint doesn't

Hello, I just really resolved "Famous" issue with Lenovo X240 Trackpoint and wanted to share my experience. In December 2014 I've bought Lenovo X240 and for some time used it with mouse only. Recently I took it the trip and recognized that TrackPoint is not working at all. I had X60s before and TrackPoint was always very userful, so I was very disappointed from new X240. Yes, I've checked it' was enabled in BIOS. Yes, I've tested all available drivers from Lenovo and Synaptics. I even bought new keyboard and replaced it - no result. Finally I decided to check contacts on the way from main board to TrackPoint. Bingo, I found defective soldering and what is pity - both brand new keyboards have the same defect! Please refer to attached photos. Shame on Lenovo, because Trackpoint is solid part of ThinkPad brand for sure. To fix it you need to disassemble laptop in the way that's required to change keyboard. You also need special low power soldering iron with sharp thin adapter, better binocular lens and hard hand like surgeon Smiley Happy Just re-solder contacts from flat cable that goes to main board to designated contacts at keyboard assembly. - I've marked exact place by red figures on attached photos.. To be 200% sure that you identified proper contacts to resolder, take something sharp and touch these contacts that look not well-made - they will move

Using Win 8.1 x64 and the latest Synaptics drivers, if I'm typing or holding a key the left click does not work. I've tried every setting in the Synaptics control panel and can't figure out how to disable this behavior. Does anyone know how to disable this? It's very annoying, especially as there is a delay after pressing a key before I can click the mouse of around a half second. Easily recreated by opening notepad and holding down the A key, then trying to left click something.

Bumping this because it is very frustrating and I've tried everything I can think of. Newest Synaptic drivers, old ones, no drivers, every option in the control panel.Does anyone have any idea?

Does it work properly in a Linux live USB environment?Unlikely, but maybe the motherboard is damaged and breaking the TrackPoint module on the keyboard? Does the keyboard connector look damaged?

Answer:trackpoint did't work

Hi Oshri,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with track point not working in your Lenovo T410 laptop
The Fn-key (F8) allows the to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad.

If the trackpoint is no longer working, this may be a good option to check before investigating device manager, updating / reinstalling trackpoint drivers or rebooting as discussed above.

Pressing Fn-F8 brings up the ultranav menu and allows the user to cycle through different trackpoint and touchpad configuration options.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Hi,I have a T420 with Windows 7, everything is updated (including all Thinkpad software...including the Hotkey driver from last febbrary 2013).But now when I press for instance FN + F5 i am not able anymore to turn off the bluetooth... Already tried to disinstall install again with some reboots etc but I didn't succeed to let this feature works again.. Thanks in advance for your support!Fabio

Answer:Hotkeys / FN functions doesn't works anymore

yeh i've been waiting on an update, but since it hasnt come, i'm finally here to post my complaint. my issue is regarding the hotkey feature on my T400. about 5 months ago or so, i had an adobe flash update forced on my browser.  i knew there were issues with the newer versions of flash and the hotkey feature, so i'd never update flash, but this one was forced on me; said something about support ending and that i had to update. well since then, i get sporadic function of my volume buttons.  every other hotkey works, but the volume buttons.  and this only occurs in the browser, both firefox and chrome, not in other applications.  the newer versions even cause a ghost image of the volume display to stay on the screen after putting the computer to sleep, so i'm using 6.62.01 on screen display driver as the older ones dont cause this; but do still have the limited volume button issue. so yeh, if any mod is reading this, could you pass this along to lenovo engineers or whoever so they could take a look at this driver and how it works in conjuction with flash? thanks.

I'm using Internet Explorer (WinXP). I have not knowingly changed any settings. On various web sites, I am no longer able to perform certain things, such as register for a class or purchase tickets or log in. I suspect it's some sort of a cookie problem, although the settings look correct to me.

Some examples:
* http://www.ticketmaster.com - When I go to this web site and click on "Find Tickets" for anything, none of the windows show the BUY TICKET button - and the mouse cursor does not indicat that there is anything there. This used to show. It also shows on my computer at work.

* http://www.aol.com/ - I can no longer sign in. When I attempt to sign in, I get a dialogue box that says ENABLE YOUR COOKIES.

* http://www.uclaextension.edu - I can no longer register for classes. Nothing happens after I hit the SUBMIT button.

These are just several examples. All these started happening around the same time. All worked before. Any possible solutions?

(Earthlink Digital Cable, WinXP)

Thanks!

Hello, guys. I recently purchased the Thinkpad T420 and so far am very satisfied. I noticed a problem though. I wanted to use the track point so I pressed FN + F8 and nothing. Figured ok, I'll go to through the control panel. Pressed on the mouse option under devices and printers. There is no trackpoint tab or the nav. I clicked on all the tabs. All I have are wheel, hardware, pointing device, buttons, pointers, and pointer options. Please help! Before I had an old IBM thinkpad and the trackpoint worked. One of the greatest assets! Thanks.

When I disable my trackpoint on my T540P it does not really disable, I am still able to use it afterwards. I'd like to disable it completely because it causes my cursor to move on its own. At the moment I have to wiggle it around a few times for the cursor to stop moving on its own and its annoying to do that constantly I used the following tutorial to disable the Trackpoint: https://support.lenovo.com/za/en/solutions/ht117094 Thanks

Hi:

Can anyone suggest a relatively safe way of converting Quicken for Mac files to Quicken for Windows? Intuit has an absurd multi-step "guide" that actually suggests you check for missing transactions one by one and enter manually. Obviously that is far from safe o feasible.

Or, if not, does anyone know if you can go from Quickbooks for Windows to Quicken for Windows easily?

Thanks

Hi there, a buddy of mine got a ibm r52 laptop recently from a relative that sat for a few months. anyways, it was given to him and it worked great for about a week then he noticed issues with the keyboard, trackpoint, scroll pad and buttons not working sometimes after boot.
And when they dont work...they dont work. Its not a on and off thing...its either or.

So he has me looking at it...

I dont think its a big issue b/c the keyboard will ALWAYS work when i want to go into the BIOS. I loaded up a Acronis TI boot disk and the keyboard and trackpoint worked fine...but then i tried it again and only the keyboard worked and no trackpoint or pad.

So far i have tried updating the BIOS and embedded controller to the latest with no luck.
Ive also tried a quick fresh install....no luck...still either on or off.

However, if i plug my usb wireless mouse in the mouse cursor works fine...always...

So i guess my next step is to open her up, but im waiting to hear back on any suggestions first....and i got to find a service manual for it...
Thanks for reading.

Answer:T60 trackpoint and touchpad work random!

Hello,

Just to confirm, this occurs under both Xubuntu and Windows 7?

If so, I would say carefully disconnect and reconnect the touchpad/keyboard assembly to verify it is not a connection problem, and if the problem still continues, to replace it with a new assembly.

Answer:R52 Trackpoint keys pad and keyboard work sometimes

It sounds like a flakey keyboard. If it is still in warranty Lenovo will send you one for free. If not they are not very expensive and they are easy to replace. If you want to tear it down you will need the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
