93P5030 battery (ThinkPad X60s) suddenly dies

Question: 93P5030 battery (ThinkPad X60s) suddenly dies

Hi, I have a 3 year-old ThinkPad X60s. I have a problem with my battery (Li-Ion FRU 93P5030). When unplugged, the battery works until it is about 60% full. Then, the system suddendly goes into hybernation. When I plug it in, the system resumes but it shows the battery at 0% capacity. The Power Manager shows the battery is "in good condition" and I have already performed a reset. Browsing the web I saw Lenovo recalled some of these batteries but when I run the diagnosis tool it says my battery doesn't classify for a recall. What can I do? Has anybody else had this problem? I appreciate any help! Rodrigo

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear all My battery pack (42T4506) has worked well for the last two years. Until last Thursday (13 May 2010), battery lifespan was degraded to 1.5h hours -- which was accetably to me. Last Friday (14 May 2010), when I was sitting in a train trying to restart my laptop, the battery symbol was blinking with message mentioned in the subject above -- and the battery refusing from being active (although 100% loaded). I wonder how such a sudden failure can occur -- IBM's thinkpad battery never failed like that... Would anyone mind me giving the full address of Lenovo support? Thanks Lukas

Answer:x61s: Battery SUDDENLY dies with blinking "The battery has failed due to normal wear".

battery warranty only lasts 1 year, so you would have to get a new battery.

After months of using my Y550 battery for hours without a charge, suddenly, when the battery reaches 80% charge, the computer goes to sleep, and when I plug it in, the battery meter reads 4% and charging.  This has reduced my battery life from about 3-4 hours to about 15-20 minutes overnight.  This problem has been happening for about two weeks now.I found a similar complaint here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-B-and-Z-series/Y450-review-Update-6-Saying-Goodbye/td-p/1279... (message 135, point 6)This makes the computer essentially unusable as a laptop, since I can't have it sleeping and doing the loud beep in the middle of class.

Answer:Battery suddenly dies at 80% charge Y550

try removing both the ac adapter and the battery and pressing the power button for 30 seconds.
if it doesn't work, try to re-seat the battery. remove the battery, and on ac power press power button for couple of seconds, if it doesn't work, probaby one of the battery cells is dead, so contact lenovo support line for replacement.

for battery low sound, you need bios update, you can download it from here.

Problem is in motherboard. Who helps me with a part of schematics of IBM ThinkPad A21p 2629 HWU notebook, related to BIOS support circuitry? Lithium coin shaped battery has high discharge current and dies in hours. Until this battery keeps up, the notebook works perfect. Using car accumulator 3 V tap solves the problem. I want to dig in the motherboard and connect RTC battery lead right to BIOS chip, bypassing harmed circuitry. Who helps me? TBL company in Tampa FL neglects my e-mail yells.

I've been having a strange problem with the battery for my Thinkpad laptop. I noticed the other day that it wasn't charging when I plugged the AC adapter in. Eventually it ran out completely and would not charge at all. This happened very suddenly...it was working fine a week ago. If I have the battery installed and AC attached and hit the power button, the system will start up for a few seconds and then shut down. Sometimes it will randomly start AGAIN for another few seconds and then shut down. The only way I can get the computer to run is with the battery removed and AC adapter attached. If I start the computer up with the AC adapter attached and then insert the battery the computer immediately powers down.

I really want to get this problem resolved. I'm hoping that it's just the battery itself, but it seems strange that it would stop working so suddenly. From my experience, laptop batteries tend to lose their power over time. And even if the battery was no good, shouldn't the computer still work as long as the AC line is connected? I have no problem replacing the battery, I'm just not certain that this is the real issue. It seems that the AC adapter works fine.

Is this likely just a battery problem, or is it possible that the motherboard is damaged?

Answer:Thinkpad Battery Suddenly Stopped Working

Hi Dan and welcome to TSG.

I assume your Thinkpad's warranty has run out.

It could be a problem with the motherboard power circuitry but that would be expensive to fix.

As the charger looks ok the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to try a new battery.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

I recently installed Lenovo's latest (v. 2.42) Power Management patch and now it is behaving strangely.  After running on a full battery for less than an hour, and with the meter indicating about 70% of the full charge, the computer shuts down.  After a few times, I realized that it was the battery.  So, I plug it in and the battery guage indicates about 10% and then starts charging.  What's happening?

if a keyboard change don't fix the issue, then the motherboard will be the culprit of this problem that you are experiencing.

I was having issues setting any BIOS options and was told to speak to my system supervisor to gain access (in the BIOS options). Unfortunately, I can't gain access and there is nowhere to give a supervisor password so I can actually make any changes. I was hoping someone can help me figure out how I can make a change or do something so I can actually give the password.I know there are rules about posting about security issues say not to post security workarounds, but I am hoping this is ok and will just let me know how I can enter the password so I can make changes in the BIOS.Thanks so much in advance!

IvanZdr, welcome to the forum,

the system must be in turned off state, this will not work from a restart. When you start the system and see the BIOS splash screen you need to press F1, when required to enter a password you need to enter the supervisor password. If further passwords are requested enter these accordingly.

Hello Community!  I have recently been trawling all through the internet searching for a battery for the Lenovo IBM X60S, with no luck. I have found multiple listings and have ordered 2 of the listings that looked most like the specific one for the laptop. However they turned out to be incorrect, this is not a shock to me due to the age of the device. In spite of this I was hoping that someone on the forums may know of anywhere to purchase the corresponding battery.  Image of the device with the battery below, thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Hi,I have a relatively new X60s 1704-6DG Thinkpad that will not charge.  In Power Options -> Power Meter the battery appears to be detected but has a red X though it and shows 0% change. I have tried running this : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67765.html - but the util tells me I'm not effected.  I can't help but think there is something else up other than requiring a new battery as the laptop is quite new!  Any ideas? CheersCharlie

Answer:X60s Battery will not charge

The red x means there is a battery error of some sort, however, the battery recall on the x60s machine have expired. Unless you have got the laptop within one year, which is then covered under the one year warranty period.

Hi, I currently  own an X60s with an 8 cell battery. Just 2 days ago i completely drained the battery and recharged it. Except when I tried to take it out of my dock for use, the laptop immediately powered down. I am currently running on AC and the battery says it has 94% life left, but it reads that "A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." It only has had 83 and i have owned this computer since december 2006. The screenshot of the error is at http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n384/altonfong/Batteryerror.jpg  Thanks in advance.

Answer:Laptop battery issues-X60s

I've never managed to get 2 years from a battery! I consider myself lucky to get 18 months. I'm a heavy battery user, and normally get 12-15 months. The way they fail for me is that one day, they "go over a cliff" - from working fine to not. The battery warranty is 12 months. My guess is that your X60s is asking for a new one! BTW your image has been deleted.

Original battery on my X60s died and I decided to purchase high capacity battery for it. I bought 8 cell battery (40Y7003) that Lenovo website suggested according to my model number, but it doesn't fit! It fits binding, but it is thicker and tighter than 4 cell I had, and when 8 cell is installed, because it is thicker, my laptop could not be balanced. It is like a table with one leg shorter than others.  The question is what batteries suites my X60s. Only 4 cell (40Y6999), or I can combine it with extended life battery (40Y7005), or there are other high capacity batteries that can suite by laptop?

I have a Lenovo x60s that has been lightly used over the last 2 years since I bought it.  The machine has worked great until recently the battery light started to flash continuously at a very fast rate with the AC plugged in.  Out of curiosity to see what would happen, I disconnected the AC and the machine turned off immediately.  Figuring that my battery had died a sudden death (I was having no problems with it before now), I replaced it with a spare that I have.  Same problem - it won't charge either.  The only way the laptop will work is if it is plugged in.  I don't think its a battery problem since I tried two batteries but then what's the problem???  Someone please help me.  I love the portability of my little Lenovo but it has now turned into a desktop!!!  Thanks!

I have been having a serious problem for more than a year that has cost me hundreds of dollars despite taking the machine into two official Lenovo agents.  On changing battery the computer boots into a BSOD with a message too quick to read. One technician said the drive was fried and salvaged some data to a new one he sold me. Another did something similar the next time and has ordered a new MB. Thanks to the forum i have figured that the I needed to change the BIOS settings from AHCI to "compatibility mode" but not before i had attempted a restore that failed and has necessitated a complete restore.  The local technician does not seem to know of any CMOS battery in the x60s but the symptoms appear to me as if the onboard battery was dead and thus the Bios is resetting. Any thoughts on this? (not including full system detials as the system is still restoring)

This is an interesting one for you... When the battery meter on my Lenovo x60s (circa 2009, WinXP) is at or above 20%, the backlight fails.  From a completely dead battery attached to AC power, it will begin fine up to 20%, then it will cut out and suddenly 'blink' on for less than 1/4 second before going black again.  If I unplug the AC, it will stop blinking but will remain black until the battery % reduces below 20 again; then it is fine.  This is a reproducable error and have tried this on two batteries now - the 8cell and the 4cell, both produce the same symptoms so I'm inclined to believe the issue is with some kind of voltage regulator/sensor on the laptop.  I have no idea what's going on or if a firmware update could fix this, or if it's a hardware issue.  Thanks in advance for any help provided.  Cheers

I have inherited a X60s which came with 2 batteries, both of which were dead, and invoked the battery light too blink rapidly when installed, and the dialogue stated that the battery was unable to be charged.  I bought a new 8 cell, 4400mAh, FRU92P1227,  battery over eBay.  When installed, the battery light (orange,) now blinks slowly, and the dialogue states  there's 11% charge, and that it's charging.  The computer lid has been closed overnight, but no change in the charge level has been noted, And the computer will go dead if the AC is pulled. I have no way of knowing if the battery is defective, or the charging circuit is defective.  It runs fine on the AC mains.  The X60s is Model 1703 FRU, running Windows 8' .  I have tried the various fixes suggested on this forum, but no good results .  Is there a fix if the charging circuit is defective? I have had my R40 for about 5 years. For the first 4 years it worked well and without incident and then the problems started. While I am working the laptop suddenly shuts off - it does not crash or bluescreen - it goes from being on, to being a dead brick within a second and without warning. When I press the power button nothing happens. I unplug it, replug it and nothing happens. I take out the battery and put it back in and nothing happens. I leave it alone (plugged in) for about 10 minutes and when I come back to it and press the power button it will occasionally fire up.I have not been able to determine a sequence that makes it work - it works when it works and thats it.I have noticed that it will stay on longer if not moved - however that is just an observation and may not be a contributing factor.I don't want to sink a lot of money into this computer - it is just used to access work when I work from home.Any thoughts?Thank you.Message Edited by Alisson on 04-14-2008 05:56 AM

I have been looking at a similar problem for a friend on an R40e.  I have a theory that it is heat related as it will stay on for about 10 minutes when starting from cold, and although it will come back on it will fail again within a minute or so on subsequent times.  I can't hear a fan - anyone know if there is a fan and if it is replacable?

One of our company's X201's needed a reformat and cleanup, which went off without a hitch.  I installed drivers and set the machine back up and shut it down.  Two days later, I go to turn it on, which it boots perfectly without a hitch until it gets to the desktop - three seconds after it loaded the desktop the machine suddenly went completely dead.  Like dead, dead.  I get no lights when it's plugged in - not even the tones for troubleshooting.  It won't do anything at all and I have no clue why or how it could have just quit just like that... This particular computer is not used too often either.  It was a clean install of Windows 7 Enterprise.  Tried removing everything and doing the power button trick with no luck.  It has sat on my desk with no battery or memory for two days and it still won't even give me a light.  The charger also appears to be outputting 20V according to my meter.  Any ideas?

I just aquired an X61s and the installed battery (8 cell - it extends out the back) is a bit odd. It snaps in fine and works OK, but there is a gap at the left end (with laptop upside down) about 1/4" wide, and the battery pack that stands a bit proud of the bottom of the unit only has one foot on it which is on the right side... It was suggested to me that I may have an X60s battery instead of the X61s style....Looking on the Lenovo site it seems they take the same P/N(actually I could not find a battery marked for the X61s, but only for the X60 "series" ) Has anyone else run into this?Is there an adapter plate that might fix this? THANKS!

Hey guys,

So I'm using an ASUS notebook N61Jq to which I've hooked a mouse and a keyboard to. Now very recently, my usb port that I was using for my keyboard stops working suddenly. The only way I've been able to fix this problem is to restart my laptop, but for some reason, I have to hold down the power button because it won't restart by itself. Even if I use this method to try and fix it, my usb port will stop working again after a few minutes.

Is anyone able to tell me why this is happening and what I can do to permanently fix the problem? The laptop is fairly new, so I'm really not sure what's wrong =/

Help would be appreciated

Thanks!

have you tried to reinstall the USB drivers?

or try this step that i used on one of my friends lappy..

- Unplug all the cables that are connected to your laptop
- Remove the battery of your laptop
- leave it for 5 min
- Plug everything back and turn your laptop on.

hope it works, Goodluck!

I've had  a X41 Tablet for about 2.5 years now.  Just recently in the past month it will randomly die on me, meaning it will lose all power (No shutdown screen, nothing).  If I try to turn it back on, nothing will happen.  If I plug in the AC adapter, still no power.  The only way I can get it to start back up is if I remove the battery, then place it back in forcefully or wiggle the battery around while it is back in the slot.  If it does restart, the battery is still charged like nothing had happened.  So  it isn't the battery losing it's charge.  I even tried putting another battery in from one of the X41 tablets in our office after the computer had died and it wouldn't start.  My thoughts are it has something to with the connection on the board.  Any other thoughts or ways to fix this? Thanks,JohnMessage Edited by cranjx on 06-11-2008 10:34 AM

I would suggested having it inspected by lenovo themselves. Do you have a 3-year warranty?

Hi, I have had a T61P for about 10 months now and everything has been working great up until a few days ago. All of a sudden, my battery (6 cells) started dying very rapidly (40 minutes or less) with just doing office work and wireless on. I installed Power Manager 2 and made sure Maximum Battery plan is selected. The battery health was reported to 100%. After the battery was almost depleted next day and I plugged it back in, it said battery charge capacity is now at 70%. I didn't do a Power Gauge reset or anything. I only have 36 charge cycles. And now for some reason when I reach around the 50% mark when running on battery, it switches to "battery critical", turns on the flashing orange warning and goes to hibernation. I clocked it, and I only get around 40 minutes of battery life. (compare to 2+ hours just a week ago). My question is, can this be due to a defective motherboard? Or is it aging of the battery. I understand if the capacity drops after almost a year, but it shouldn't kill my battery at 50%. I had an R60 before that and had no problems.   Here's a snapshot of the Power Manager report. Thanks.

digitalblade, It sounds like you might have had one or more cells in the battery go bad, especially if you only have 36 cycles on it.  As it sounds like you are still within the first year, and the battery is under warranty, I would suggest you contact service and get the battery replaced. Best regards, Mark

As of writing this my Hp Envy 17t-k000 cto Has been having battery problems.  It isnt to bad but my battery dies after only 40min of use even on light tasks like internet browsing.  It isnt much of a problem for me currently because i always have it plugged in at my desk.  i guess its partially my  fault for getting a 17in laptop and expecting great battery life but if i ever plan to go to college with this it would make it almost impossible.   any help would be appreciated if there is a easy BIOS/UEFI or software Tweak that i can do or if there is a affordable extended battery pack i can purchase.  Thank you! I have had it for over a year now and it has probably only died like 10 times because i always have it plugged in except over night.

Hi i just got my laptop. I've been using it for about a week now and the battery says its at about 20-22 percent and then dies once it get below that. Its not just sleep or hibernate, it dies. I want to know why I cant use 1 5th of my battery.

I've searched the forums a bit and tried changing the battery settings in the power modes.

Any help?

Hi,

It can be a battery malfunction or something like this, your laptop is pretty new. So, contact the ASP (service center) or dealer to check or replace. They will do it for free.

Hi, well i really dont know anything about computers what so ever, but for a few days now, my Acer Laptop has been shutting down when theres 19% left of the battery, or 20 minutes without warning. Usually it gives me a low battery warning when theres 13 minutes left, then a critical battery waning at 7-8 minutes left.

-ATI Mobility Radeion Hd 4250

I hope those ^^ help, thanks.

ps. ive only had it for about 3 months, well since christmas

Answer:Laptop dies at 19% without a 'low battery' warning. Help?

click start / windows
type power options and select it
select change plan settings on your current power plan
click change advanced power settings
go to battery
check the low and critical battery level and actions.

if those aren't set in 20% it probably means your battery is out of calibration.

hi there,

I have a Acer Aspire E1 570 laptop that I use for college, the laptop is less then 8 months old. For some reason recently it starting going dead at 40% battery charge remaining. I ran a powercfg -energy from the command prompt and it said that my batterys designed charge is 37000 and last full charge untill the battery read it was fully charged is 36526. If some one would happen to know why this is happening that would be great, as i use the laptop on the battery all the time while i'm at school. I was thinking maybe just refresh the PC from the recovery i made using the provided software with the computer. I'm unsure if that would correct the issue. As well as i haven't found anything on google for this issue on my laptop.

Thanks

Answer:Acer Aspire E1 570 Battery Dies at 40%

I would contact Acer, since the laptop is still within the warranty period. There are programs out there that can "fix" errors like this. Most likely you just have a bad battery pack in your laptop.

Hi.I have a x201 laptop. I have two batteries - one original 6-cell, which is pretty old and one non-original 9-cell, which is rather new. When I unplug the computer from power, with either battery, what happens is that it shows that it has fairly normal percentage left, and that it also has fairly normal time left (for example, yesterday I used the 9-cell, and it showed 95% and about 3 hours), at the beginning it drops fairly normally (with the 9-cell it was about 20 minutes later when it showed 84%, so about 10% for 20 min use, which is reasonable). But then, after mere minutes (let's say 5 more minutes or so), with no warning at all, the battery is at 0, and the computer hibernates.Since this is happening with both batteries, and in the same everything-is-fine-until-it's-not manner, I don't really think it's a battery issue, but rather suspect it might be firmware\software\driver related. Any thoughts?

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the best place for this topic, but here goes. During the Christmas season i received a shiny new SSD for my Dell 1121 laptop. I went about installing the drive following one of the many install articles on the interwebs that shows several optimization tips for SSDs. After doing so i noticed the expected increase in performance. Mostly the startup times of the OS and of most apps.

Only problem i have now is that my battery tends to die rather rapid while the system sleeps. Prior to the SSD it would seem i could leave the system on standby for a week or better with no issue. Now i am lucky if the system stays alive for a day on standby.

Can anyone think of something that may have changed during the install or a SSD optimization thing that could have screwed with my battery life on standby?

Thanks in advance.

could the problem be something deeper internally?

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 dies on 70% battery power

Hi

It's strange and I assume it could be something wrong on the motherboard.
If the technician says you have to send the whole notebook so I don't see any other possibilities.
I think the diagnostic test is needed to find out what's going wrong.
Believe me without any test it's not easy to say why this happens.

the last two days my machine has suffered a crash with similar symptoms. First, the display goes blank. I can see some disk activity. This continues for maybe 20-30 seconds and then the machine shuts down. Yesterday, I had to restart the machine twice b/c the first attempt also resulted in a shutdown during the boot process.I thought that perhaps it was an overheating issue, but I'm not convinced of that as today there was nothing obstructing the exhaust vents (though they were a bit dusty).I'm runing windows 7 pro, 64 bit. Have an NVidia card, but I don't know about the details. Where would I find them? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have the following problem with my brandnew Lenovo Edge 545 System: After exchanging my 1Tb HDD with a 512 Gb SDD and installing all drivers from the Lenovo Homepage, I also installed some games. With Diablo III, Dota 2 and Counter-Strike Source I have the following problem: Shortly after I start the game, the fan starts to run really loudly and after maybe 30sec the ThinkPad shuts down immediately to black screen. Diablo and CSS are working fine, now that I start them in Compatibility Mode, but for Dota this is not possible, as it is started via Steam. Also I think it is only a workaround and there must be a problem somewhere with my computer. The CPU usage is on constant 30 - 40% alltough the fan is turning like hell. I am using Windows 7, 64bit. Has anyone had the same problems, or maybe even a solution? EDIT: It seems as if the AMD Radeon HD 8570M is heating up very fast. From 40 to 95°C in ca. 30sec. What can I do against this? The driver is up to date.

My laptop dies if I am on the battery and the battery percent gets between 25-40% then it will just completely shut off. It never used to do this for the first 8 months i've owned it. Now it does it every time I'm on the battery. Any ideas?

also, right before this started happening I was getting GREAT battery life out of my battery, so I don't personally think the battery has gone bad, however you may feel different!

Answer:Laptop COMPLETELY dies before low battery level??

Batteries for laptops typically only last about 1 year before their capacity starts to dwindle. Since you are only 8 months old, I would call whomever made the laptop and see if they will warranty it for you. What you are describing is exactly what happens when the battery loses it's ability to hold a charge. From 40-0 in a flash.

It's great that the keyboard battery drains first so the tablet is always ready to be undocked, but Windows seems to have trouble figuring out that there is a whole 'nother battery connected. I've had my class note taking inturrupted by automatic shutdown, and just now lost a Facebook post I had been working on for about four hours (it's a weekend update and I'm verbose, so sue me.)I've also noticed that at times, only one battery is listed with the capacities combined. It's a bit unnerving that the power interface can't report the state of the battery consistently, though I do apreciate it when this allows the keyboard to die gracefully and work to continue uninturrupted on tablet power. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Helix shuts down when keyboard battery dies

This is a standard problem with the Helix and has been written up extensively in this forum so check on all posts on the Helix keyboard. There is a keyboard fix download  which reduced the occurrences on my Helix a great deal, but did not eliminate it completely.  I keep my settings set to "Battery Stretch Mode" and "Battery Health Mode." If I know I will be off AC for a long time I always make sure I switch to fully charge both batteries. I don't check as often as I did, but when I would find the battery drain down below 20% I make sure it is charging. If it is not, I may have to reset the keyboard (note the rest button) and then it returns to normal charging.  If the keyboard goes totally dead a reset restores it to charging mode. But as I said, that rarely happens now. I sent my Helix back twice for repair only to find it is (in my mind) a software rather than hardware glitch that Lenovo has not totally solved. But I am satisfied now for two months the problem is pretty much under control.

I have Lenovo T500 Thinkpad for around one year. The laptop started to die randomly without any notification, no blue screen, no shut down, it just dies as if there is no power to the laptop. First I thought it could be a problem with the battery so I replaced my battery with the battery of another Lenovo T500. Even after that the problem persisted. So I removed the battery and just connected the laptop to AC power. The laptop does not die any more and I didnt face any issues. What could cause a problem like this? Whenever I connect the battery, the battery icon on the task bar says its charging and even if I use the battery alone the laptop works fine for sometime until it dies randomly. Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I am assuming it is powering on with the power adaptor? If so then run these even in safe mode if you have to

I don't know what you are using for clean up stuff but use CCleaner CCleaner - Delete Junk Files

As a matter of curiosity how old is the machine? Just wondering if you bought extra warranty with it.

As a by the by I do not think much of AVG but I suppose it is a personal choice but in any case in addition to the above you could run these too as no anti virus is foolproof.
If you do install these keep them as we all use these programs as a back u[ scan to out main AV - well most of us.

A couple months ago, my laptop stopped giving me a low battery warning. It would just die when the battery was too low. This wasn't a big deal a couple months ago because I was on summer vacation, but now that school is in session, I will lose my notes and homework without much chance to revive. I have tried adjusting the warning levels in the advanced power settings, but that did nothing. I tried talking to a Windows representative via chat, but he brought up 2 payment plans so they could fix it. I believe there is a way that doesn't require payment for some guy to remotely fix my laptop.

Answer:HP Pavilion laptop battery dies with no warning

Could well be the battery. Mine shuts down when the battery gets to 75% due to a faulty battery. I dual boot OSX and Windows and it happens on both so it is certainly not a software issue.

Computer: HP Pavilion DV6-6c35dx OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Hello, I am writing this post because my computer has had this ongoing problem, and it’s starting to annoy me… It used to be that when the battery power got low, the battery icon in the tray would generate a warning message that my battery only had a certain percentage of life remaining, and that I only had a certain amount of time to connect it to a wall socket via my charger before the computer went into sleep mode (Power Saver Mode). If I didn’t connect it to a power source, it would go to sleep until I did connect it to one and pressed the power button… It doesn’t do that anymore. Now I get no warnings and the computer just experiences an illogical shuts down. It's very annoying, whenever I use my computer I have to keep it connected to a wall socket, lest it unexpectedly shut down on me. Does anyone here have any suggestions?

Thank you.

I have a P400 running windows 10.  For a while now, I've noticed that when I'm running on battery, my wifi connection will only last for a short amount of time.  Sometimes it will be 2 minutes, sometimes it will be 20.  When it dies, I get a little exclamation point on the wifi icon in the system tray.  Sometimes I can disconnect and reconnect to the network, but sometimes that doesn't work.  Sometimes I can disable wifi and re-enable it, but sometimes that doesn't work.  Sometimes I can reboot and get it back, but sometimes that doesn't work either.  The only foolproof way to get it back is to plug in the computer and reboot.  As long as its running on AC power, it works fine. I've tried a full reformat and it still hasn't helped.  Any suggestions?

Hi, my computer dies when unplugged. It varies in time, but usually within 5-10 minutes. I have run software to tell me how much my battery holds to confirm that the battery isn't gone and I get these results:

Unless I'm crazy, that means that the battery isn't dead. I then proceeded to run battery diagnostics, and it told me things we're set a certain way that my settings to not reflect such as "Sleep timeout is disabled (On Battery) The computer is not configured to automatically sleep after a period of inactivity." I went to check, and it said 5 minutes on battery. Here is the report from that:

I guess my question is, what could possibly be wrong? I am getting tired of having to be plugged in.

I have had my 3000 N100 Thinkpad for around 2 years now and after a year and a half I realised the Battery was no longer charging, soon after this happened my Laptop would just die randomly, when I say die I mean there is no shutdown screen  it is as iff all power to the p.c. suddenly stopped. At first I though it must be a Virus but after numerous scans and re-installing Windows the problem re-occured, Today I opened the P.C. and checked the fan as I thought maybe it was over heating and eventually giving in, I was relieved to see a load of dust and used the vacumn to clear the fan.I thought that would fix the problem but now if anything it seems worse, I know the battery is dead as the charge level is 0 and the battery indicator on the front of the laptop flashes 5 times organge before disappears completely...In a Final attempt I have disconnected the battery completely and am now running it only on the power adapter, I don't know if this will work but I need to do something...What could cause a problem like this, all of my settings are correct my power settings are set to always on with no hibernation.Any help will be wonderful. Thanks

Right now that is not an option, however it will be in the near future. This is really irritating. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know a solution? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to help my fiancee in the Philippines with her computer. While I was there, I got a small shock any time I touched a screw on the back of her computer, an Acer.

I did some preliminary troubleshooting and noticed that when I disconnected her monitor, the shocks disappeared. I wanted to replace the monitor, but she did not want to and as I was leaving, I did not have time.

While I was there, I lived there for 11 months and replaced the CMOS battery twice. And now, she replaced the CMOS battery once again, which makes it 3 times in about 14 months.

Could the short in the monitor be causing the CMOS battery to die quicker?

And what could happen to the computer with the short? We have had to replace the hard drive as the power supply died and when it died, supposedly, it took the HD with it.

While I can troubleshoot somewhat from the US to the Philippines, in this matter, I cannot do it.

Can the monitor be repaired? It seems to work fine. And repairing monitors and hardware seems to be the norm and very cheap in the Philippines.

Thanks!!!

Answer:CMOS Battery dies in less than 1 year - Might be due to short in Monitor???

Is she turning off the AC power to the computer when it is not in use?
Leaving the AC turned on keeps standby power running in the computer
and helps keep the cmos battery from discharging.
The computer can be powered down, but the AC needs to be on.

I use this laptop for college and it's been REALLY unreliable & I can't return it at this time since I'm at a dorm and i don't think it would even get a RMA since it happens randomly (you can't expect it at all - i only had word and microsoft edge opened and poof it's dead) - also i can always start it again instantly but SOMETIMES it dies again in the booting process. Also I successfully ran an Aida64 stress test until the battery died normally (it did NOT shut down). Any suggestions on what i should do? Edit: oops i sent this twice by accident

Anyone else having this issue? I've had it on many of our T400's here. If the user allows the battery to completely run out without shutting the laptop down, it will kill the bios battery too and reset the system date and time.

Dear Community,  I have bought a brand new ThinkPad Edge 420s in August 2011. I was happy with the quality of the product, which I bought because of its reputation of reliability and solidity.Unfortunately in December 2011, 6 months after I bought it, the Think Vantage tools notified a problem with the hard disk, which had to be changed. As the computer was under guarantee, it was picked up at my place, the hard disk was changed for free and it worked normally again. I was quite surprised by the fact that a key component of  a good quality computer should fail just 6 months after purchase, but I was happy with the support I had received and the computer worked normally again. Now last week, on December 6th, the computer froze suddenly and I have not been able to start it again since then. It starts but does not go further than the Lenovo welcome page. I called the support again, we booted it from disk, it did not work, we updated the BIOS and tried to boot it again but no results. It seems the hard disk died again and has to be changed. This time, the computer is not under guarantee, even though it is the very same component as the one changed exactly one year ago, I will have to pay for the repair.  I have several questions regarding this problem: -       Is it to be considered as normal that a computer costing about 1000? and sold for its reliability and solidity should fail (it is not usable at the moment) ... Hello. I'm using a Thinkpad x220 with Windows 7 Pro. I don't usually let this happen, but once in a while I'll run the battery all the way down. After a warning about the near-dead battery, the screen goes blank but lights are still on (I assume at this point it is trying to hibernate). It never leaves this state. The lights stay on, but the screen stays blank. I plug it in, but nothing ever happens. If I press the enter key a few times, I get the standard Windows keypress noises (the ones when nothing is happening). Any ideas on how to get it out of this state without a hard reset (which I hate doing)?

Answer:x220 stuck in half-hibernate after battery dies, won't respond

I have the same problem!!My x220i won't wake up from hybernation last night. I restart the computer, it won't work: The lights is on but nothing on the screen. I restarted for 4 times. I pressed F8 and I also tried fn+F7. I even tried to take away the battery. But it just doesn't wake up. I need help!!Spoiler (Highlight to read)

What prompted you to replace the battery? Removing the drive and putting in one that works on another computer won't necessarily show anything as far as troubleshooting goes.Put the original drive back in.You didn't provide your make/model, but take a look here:http://www.tomshardware.com/answers...http://support.hp.com/us-en/documen...

This seems to be a variation on the X-60 problem - twice now my X61 running Vista Business has simply stopped operating (not shut down), while in the midst of normal operations. The screen goes dim (as if it were going into power saver mode while on batteries), then black, with no lights lit - including power. The workaround is to unplug, pull the battery, then re-seat the battery and plug back in. When the workaround is followed, the system powers up normally, advises that there has been an incomplete shutdown, and offers safe mode as a startup option - but starts normally. Any suggestions?

Hi all

I have an HP 530 laptop (1.6 dual core, 1gb memory, 250gb HDD (was 80gb), windows 7 ultimate 32-bit build 7600 (was vista home basic))

My PC runs like a dream. Recently it started giving me problems though. It dies when it wants to. There's no pattern to it.

Sometimes I'll run it on full battery and it'll hold on for 2 hours. Other times full battery keeps on going for 5 mins and then dies indefinitely. Okay sure, you'll say I should replace the battery, but that's not all.

If I run the PC on AC adapter it can sometimes keep on going without the battery for a while. Other times it'll die after 2 mins. Sometimes it charges the battery full and then keeps on going with the battery the whole day long, other times it discharges a full battery in 20mins and dies. If I unplug the AC adapter for a while and plug it back in it seems to solve all the problems for a short while.

If I delete the AHCPI battery manager in Device manager settings it also solves the problem for a short while. These problems only started when I installed Windows 7.

I have deducted that it could be that:
1. I need to replace the battery.
2. I need to replace the AC adapter.
3. I need to go back to Vista or XP
4. I need a BIOS flash.
5. I need a software fix or setting on Windows 7 of some kind.

Somebody please help!!!
R*

Answer:HP 530 Laptop battery or AC adapter or software issue. Dies anytime

Hi FriedBiltong,

It could be the AC cord or jack. You can easily check it out by moving the cord, usually close to jack. Look at the light, there you can see if power is connected.
Laptops works without battery too, so you can skip that part too.
Hope it's not too serious..

Hi, My SONY 6-cell battery lasts around 10-15 minutes but the Power manager tells me it is still good, it should last around 2 hours. While charging it never gets to 100% in the normal way, but stops at a level then some time passes and jump at 100% Tried battery reset. Did nothing. Probably all its thermal fuses are okay, who knows, it still has a life of about 15 minutes in it when the machine tells me it should last  2 hours at least. Maybe some chargig circuit failure? With the 9-cell my TP works flawless though... but it is too heavy for carrying around... *In the end the battery indicator lights up green, and the power manager shows 100% charge. Only it does not last more than 15 minutes, though it should. Regards

Hello,  I recently bought a replacement battery for my T530, upgrading from the 6-cell to the 9-cell version. While I did not buy it from Lenovo, I bought it on ebay, the seller had very high ratings, and as far as I could tell it is genuine. It worked wonderfully for a few weeks, however yesterday upon boot-up I received the "Battery is not supported by this system and will not charge" error.  I don't understand how it could possibly be a counterfeit battery if it's worked fine up until now. I would really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

Ok weird problem - I have a T42 with a "real" IBM battery running XP and latest version of power manager s/w  V1.85 . I can run the battery maint.  test cycle and the T42 successfuly (or so it claims) runs the battery down and then charges it back up and reports that it is in good condition.  But when I unplug the 120V charger the laptop immediately shuts off, and will not run from battery. The contacts on the battery and in the laptop seem to be in fine shape.  I have tried another battery that works fine in a different T42 but I still have the same problem. When problem started the BIOS/controller code were downlevel, but I have now updated to the latest:    BIOS  - V3.23   Embedded controller code V3.04   Then reset BIOS to default settings But ... problem remains. Thanks for any assistance!

Answer:T42 dies when unplugged yet battery is good, power mgr shows charge/discharge cycle OK

there is probably a problem with the motherboard. Did the person whom donated the laptop to your organisation spoke to you about this problem?

Let phones sync under wifi a couple of days (heating + barttery draining = cpu + data massive usage), then check in Settings -> Battery -> Show apps per use which is the drainer and disable it in the Background list.

My phone does not send all of my text messages, but they show as if sent. I also do not receive texts that have been sent and if I do it is well after they have been sent. My phone has been dying very quickly and has been pretty warm.

Answer:Nokia Lumia 900 not sending or receiving a majority of texts. Battery dies fast and phone is warm.

It sounds like the battery is on its way out. I experienced that issue with a BlackBerry 9000 several years ago and bought a new battery. Unfortunately, the Lumia 900 has a sealed battery, which probably isn't worth replacing at this time, especially with the new 635 available for around $60 without a contract on Amazon.com.

So I got myself the Lenovo ThinkPad W510 the other day, specific model being "431929G", along with it I got myself a 9-cell battery instead of the included 6-cell as well as this additional "slice battery" solutions which you attach at the bottom of the computer using the docking port it seems? The box which this slice battery came in was marked model 57Y4545, the piece of battery inside however says FRU: 42T4739? I guess and hope it's the same thing?  It does attach to the bottom of my W510 without any issues whatsoever, I lock it in place so I get that green indicator which should mean it's supposed to function? But it doesn't.. ThinkVantage Power Manager do pick up the battery but it's just standing there at 12% battery with no activity? Even after the main 9-cell is fully charged it wont start to charge the slice battery? I did even remove the main 9-cell in order to see whether or not that would change anything, but it didn't? And if I remove the power cord when running only the slice battery the W510 will just drop dead? So it's not charging, neither is it providing my W510 with any more battery life? It just sits the with 12% battery with no activity whatsoever, no charging or usage at all?

Answer:ThinkPad Battery 27++ (9cell) 57Y4545 wont work with my Lenovo ThinkPad W510?

Are you sure you're running the latest power manager? I.e., have you updated all the system drivers, os drivers, bios, etc.?

I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

It looks like the problem is pretty the same as with "Ideapad Z400 or Z500 battery will not charge - plugged in not charging". My battery worked fine when the OS was Vista , Windows 8, but after windows 8.1 installation it was "plugged but no charging". I already have reinstalled the windows, nothing happened. I tried to install the same firmware as Z500, but it isn't work. Lenovo Solution Center displays battery as "Battery software not installed". Downloading and running Settings Dependency Package does not help. I can't find a new firmware in any place  Please Help! By the way, I checked my windows version, and it appears Windows 8 Pro (like it was before I tried to upgrade to win 8.1)

patient, welcome to the forum,

originally your system had the 3 cell battery installed. If you feel you could use a little extra stamina you could opt for the 6 cell battery. As an added extra, there is also a 3 cell battery you could use in place of the optical drive.

Hope this helps

Hey, I own a Thinkpad E220 (5380-CTO) and the "Lenovo Thinkpad Toolbox" gives me daily alerts that I have a "critical battery issue". The link leads me to a page to download and update the battery firmware. "Battery Firmware Updates for Main and Slice (external) batteries - ThinkPad Edge E220s, Edge E420s, X1" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT062049&AID=10429688&PID=3719336&CJURL=http%3A%2F... I've gone through all the steps to update the firmware numberous times, including doing the battery recalibration and I STILL get the daily "critical battery error message". Please help, the daily scans eat up RAM and it's annoying that I have to cancel it daily. The battery, from what I can tell, works otherwise. Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad E220 "Critical Battery Issue" even AFTER updating battery firmware

I do have exactly the same problem: keep getting the "critical battery issue" alert every sinle day! When I want to update the battery firmware, it says it cannot find any batteries that require firmware update. Yet, I get the same "critical battery issue" alert the next morning... This started happenning a few days a ago after I have updated the ThinkVantage Toolbox system; and it is already driving me crazy... Does anyone from Lenovo ever read these community blogs??? It seems like noone cares!

I've bought L430 with pre-installed windows 8 in December 2012. After 8 months of using, I don't have any problem until 2 weeks ago, the battery designed capacity has changed from 57Wh to 50Wh. I notice that I left the laptop pluged-in almost time in 2 weeks. I searched and read many topics, they said that the Battery Health Setting may be the cause of changing battery capacity.

There're 2 mode:
- Optimize for run time: for stay unpluged
- Optimize for battery health: for AC-pluged-in

Battery Capacity is 50Wh instead of 57Wh

Link to image 1

And under Lenovo Power Setting I cannot find any setting for Battery Health Mode. It just show up what mode is using so I think that it's automatic

But in the following topic, they said that we can manual change the mode: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/tkb/articleprintpage/tkb-id/[email protected]/article-id/396

I dont know what's my problem rightnow, I have updated to the lastest Lenovo Drivers and Software, why it didnt show up the Battery Health Mode option

I'm so very appreciate if anyone have an idea. Thank you for reading my topic.

This question has been asked by countless people, and the Internet is filled with a wild array of answers.

If you bought an HP system many years ago, and it came with Windows XP, and you have the re-installation disc, if your system dies or needs to be recommissioned because it's unreliable, can't you use the re-installation disc to install the OS onto the new system? I've heard some limitations are involved but I don't know fact from fiction on these:

1. You can reinstall only IF you upgrade the system with the same motherboard because the key for the install is tied to the serial number of the motherboard.

2. You can reinstall only if you move the hard drive of the old system to the new one (which for me would be impossible because the old drive is IDE and the new one is SATA).

3. You can reinstall only if the new computer is a model from the same vendor (e.g., if you have the reinstall disc for a Dell computer it will only work in another Dell computer).

4. If you call MS customer support and explain that your system's motherboard has died they will "reactivate" the license for you on the new system.

5. You can't do it in any scenario because your EULA will state that you agreed to install the OS on the one computer and agreed it would not be used on another system.

Anybody have any definitive answers on this issue?

Answer:T or F: Your OEM license for Windows XP dies when your system dies.

True...simple answer to your topic title.

Hi All, I have a Thinkpad T520. It won't charge the battery (% charged stays at the same level) and it won't run from the battery only. If I turn off/remove AC power the computer dies immediately and it won't start up without the AC power plugged in. The battery is definitely good, it works in another computer. Is this a problem which I can fix myself? Can it be repaired? Will it be expensive? Will it require a new motherboard? It is not under warranty. Thanks, so much SV P.S. Any suggestions will need to be written in fairly simple terms, I'm no expert

Answer:Thinkpad T520 won't charge battery or run from battery power.

The problem is the charging circuit on the motherboard. It might be a fuse, but that is soldered to the motherboard, so unless you have a well-equipped repair place with a rework station (not a dealer) they cannot replace the fuse. If it isn't a fuse, it is probably a power transistor, and you are not likely to find someone to fix it. Probably, you will need a motherboard

I recently purchased a T460 with an Ultradock 90w and when the notebook is docked it only shows battery 1 (internal) as charging. Battery 2 is not being used but it is not charging either and it is very very slowly discharging (about 3% over the last few days). If I plug the Thinkpad into its normal power supply outside of the dock both batteries charge (one at a time). Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong with my dock?

Just recently it started doing this. I've had it for a few months, and it's on 8.1 dev. For the last few days, it's been doing that. I've let it completely die and charge it, but it still dies after being plugged in when the battery's critical Any tips? Thanks!

Answer:Lumia 810 dies after being plugged in when "battery critical"?

Set it into the freezer over might, the battery's cells may just need to recrystalize. Typical with most lithium batteries.
