X301 WiFi 5100 very slow

Question: X301 WiFi 5100 very slow

Hello, I have a connection speed problem, I'm not able to use the full 300Mbit bandwith provided by my D-link DIR8. The maximum speed I get is 130Mbit.D-link said to me that my Wlan card must support the 40Mhz channel width to work at this speed. I already updated the FW to the last one [12.2.*] and I setted up the channel width to auto but still don't work...Does the card support that speed??? You have any suggestion?? Thank you in advance!!Message Edited by impy on 04-04-2009 03:31 AM

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

impy wrote:The maximum speed I get is 130Mbit.How exactly are you measuring that? It's quite usual to get a practical throughput which is only about one third of what the wireless technology advertises, so your result looks good.

Can I swap out the Intel Wifi 5100 AGN wireless card in my X301 thinkpad for a 5350? Will it give me substantially better range, throughput or stability? Do I need to install a 3rd antenna and how do I route it? Thanks

I ordered an SL500, and selected Wifi 5100, yet when I checked the device manager in vista, it said 5100 AGN.  So what's the difference?  And if there's no difference, why do they allow you different selections: 5100 vs. 5100AGN on the lenovo website when you customize your thinkpad laptop?Message Edited by lenovousersl500 on 12-11-2008 03:01 PM

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

I have an X301 S/N xx-xxxxx laptop installed with Vista Business Professional 64-bit SP1. A few days ago I updated the drivers via ThinkVantage "Update my system" tool including the WiFi driver. Now, I have the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN driver version 13.2.0.30. After installing this driver the WiFI Radio is not working: it is not possible to power on the WiFi radio.

During this update the latest Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools program was installed. In the Diagnose menu the Hardware test fails for this device claiming that the wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled. However, if I look at the Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters -> Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN -> (Right click) Properties -> Driver tab then I can see that the device is enabled.

I have to add that the original driver worked perfectly and it is now very annoying that I cannot use the WiFi at all. Please, give me help how to solve this problem. I tried to visit the Lenovo Support & Downloads pages and download other X301 Vista 64-bit driver but the system tells me that I have the latest driver and the driver was not installed. Anyway, I am not sure what is the right solution or driver, so please help me. I am quite frustrated as I downloaded everthing officially by using the ThinkVantage tool given by Lenovo. I thought that these drivers offered by this tool were thoroughly tested.

Welcome to the forum!

You'll need a modded BIOS in order to use that card in R500. Stock BIOS will not allow the machine to boot with it.

Hello, my X301 while connected to a WiFi connection would disconnect and autimatically disconnect every 10-15min.  I have donwloaded and installed the latest driver but the problem still exist.  This happens on different networks and not sure how to troubleshoot this...Anyone see this? Thanks.

Answer:X301 WiFi disconnecting

Hi,in case you are using Access Connection for the Wifi connection , then make sure, that you have your profile configured like this:- open Access connection-> Location Profiles->select your wifi profile->Edit...->Wireless Settings-> click on the "Settings..." button that is listed next to the option "5.".In this creen make sure, that the Power save mode is set to "Low (best network performance)".Althought it sounds strange, but the power save mode has to be set to LOW, which means your wifi card will have all the awailable power to be always online and will not disconnect.Of course in case you are using the latest version of Access Connection, then you need to have also the latest version of follwing:- Power manager- power management driver- Hotkey features- Wifi driverPlease let me know any update on this.Cheers

Maybe this problem is not the Mobile Intel 4 family express chipset but thw wireless card? I just received an R400 with the above intel media graphics accelarator. Unfortunately, when playing an game like Second Life, it completely locks up the laptop. When in wireless mode, the wirelss connection shuts down. There is no way to get it back without rebooting the computer. The same is true when connected by a LAN. I checked to make sure I have the latest driver for the chipset. As I am sure everyone is aware, millions of people use Second Life for work and play. Its too bad I cannot use this laptop. Any suggestions? Mac

Recently, my Intel Wifi 5100 has stopped working on windows. For no appearant reason, Windows decided that my Wifi card is not good enough to be read. When i open my Device Manager, my Ethernet port shows up, but the Wifi card does not. The wierd part is that the Wifi card gets read in "Splashtop" which came on my laptop. I can use Wifi on the Linux bases OS, but not windows. I've tried installing all drivers, but Windows refuses to acknowledge the presence of my card. Any clue on how to fix this?

Answer:Serious Intel Wifi 5100 problem

Hey, welcome to Vista Forums!
Assuming the wireless card is removable, you could try re-seating the wireless card, also, you could take the card out, and boot, then shut down, and put the card back in, then boot and see if it made any difference.

If it's not removable, check to make sure any wireless switches are turned on.

Please post back with what you have tried, or even if you managed to fix the problem and how!
Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello! I have a R500 Series ThinkPad with the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter. The driver for the card has been updated as of today (September 7, 2010). I have a D-Link DIR 655 WiFi router (replacing an old Linksys 54g WiFi router). The firmware of the router has also been updated today. I'm running the router under the WPA-2 standard with AES cipher type, channel width of 40 Mhz on 802.11n mode only with auto channel scan (just as Intel is recommanding). I also followed Intel indications for the WiFi card. Problem is : the laptop just can't connect to the WiFi network...? I tried all sort of things, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Note that when I tried  to use the router under WPA with TKIP and AES as cipher type, the laptop was able to connect at the slow 54 Mbps rate. Thanks.

I have a Sony Vaio with intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter & Vista OS.

The problem I have is that 9 times out of 10 it will not connect to my home or office wireless network. Eventually it does, though only after switching the adapter on and off several times or rebooting the machine. Sometimes I also have to restart the wireless router.

It will always seem to connect in that I get the connected icon in the notification area (though often without the internet globe symbol) though it will not connect to the net or to any other machine or printer on the network.

Some other useful info:
Both the home and office routers are the same model (Comtrend) and both work fine with other PC's

I often have bluetooth problems also - can take a while for bluetooth to start (I use a bluetooth mouse) and I have 3 unknown bluetooth peripheral devices in device manager

I have McAfee internet security installed

I have tried:
Disabling the firewall
Removing and readding the wireless and bluetooth devices
Disabling IPv6
Driver & OS update
A clean install

Nothing has resoved this issue which is becoming a pain as I can now spend up to half an hour each time trying to connect.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Answer:Wifi connectivity with intel 5100 AGN

Hi -

The Intel 5100 is one of the best wifi's available. I have one in this system and it performs flawlessly.

I think you'll find McAfee to be the problem here. I suggest that you remove it. Download the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Make sure that you have the most recent Intel 5100 wifi driver. Go to Intel's site -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=3062

You can check your system manufacturer's site, but I have found they are ususlly 8-12 months behind.

Lenovo X301  I have just purchased 2 x Lenovo X301's Model 2776-LEG and downgraded to XP SP2. The Laptops cost over 1,500 each !.The Wifi card is a Intel 5300. The laptop connects to my access unit fine and I can use the internet for a good 1 to 2  hours fine without any issues. At random times after this it will disconnect from the Router / Access unit. I then use the ThinkVantage Access Connections to Connect again to my WiFi and it works again for a few hours, and then disconnects again.  I have disabled all Power saving features, in Control Panel, and also on the network adapter as far as I can see. I changed my Dlink Access units, and have just purchased a Linksys Wireless -N wap4400N access unit to see if this helps, but no success still disconnects I spoke with 1st line Lenovo helpdesk who advised to upgrade .Net Framework to 3.50 which was a big mistake, Laptop went very very slow afterwards , and had to uninstall and keep at .net 3.0. I have also updated Access connections to 5.21 and no difference. I am awaiting Lenovo 2nd Tier support to call me back to see what else I can do. Q1: Is anyone else suffering from the same issue ? Q2: I see Intel have a later 5300 driver, and want to know if anyone installed it without any issues, and did it fix the disconnection issue ?Q3: Why are Lenovo sending out 1,500 laptops that have not been fully tested fully with both ... Dear Sir or Madam, I have a Lenovo 4446-25U G530 running XP Pro and equipped with WiFi Link 5100 AGN with driver 12.2.0.11 11-17-2008.  When I attempt to update my system using the Lenovo Care, I get a message to update my WiFi driver to 12.0.0.73.  During installation I get an error message:  c:\PROGRA~1\Lenovo\SYSTEM~1\session\52wi07ww\Vista\Docs\Icons\Thumbs.db  Access is denied.  At this point installation is halted at 80%.  When I click OK on the "Access is denied" window, the installation continues until I get a messge from System Update stating "1 Package was successfully downloaded and installed"  When I view installation history, the updated driver (12.0.0.73) is listed as having been installed, however when I check for system updates using Lenovo Care, it continues to show the WiFi Link 5100 driver as a pending update.  Apparently the installation is not sucessful. Is this a Vista only update that I should ignore? Regards,  Lou

Answer:Help/Question? Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

Hello!

I recently bought an Acer Aspire laptop (18.4" monitor). I am having difficulty connecting to the internet with this computer, and perhaps someone here can help me out. Here is some information:

Network Adapter: WiFi Link 5100 AGN
Router: Verizon Wireless (Model Name: MI424-WR)

Wireless network connections are detected, and the connection is "strong". However, when I try to connect, it always fails. When I go to the command prompt, and type "ipconfig" I see "Media Disconnected". I know there is a wireless button on the Acer's, but this is automatically turned on during startup, so I know this is not the problem. For some reason, my router is just not connecting to my network adapter, and I am unsure how to resolve this problem. Thanks for any insight of this issue!

I have a W500 (i.e. product type 4058), with an Intel 5100 Wifi Link 5100 AGN adapter, running Vista 64 SP2 currently running 802.11G. I want to replace my current router with an "802.11N" but want to know whether my current laptop configuration will enable this change to wireless "N"..Can anyone advise me whether I can:        a) upgrade my router only (i.e. to N)....with the current laptop config ?        b) upgrade my router and upgrade this laptop hardware internally to "N" ?? (is this possible or cost prohibitive ?)        c) or is my only alternative to upgrade the router and purchase a Lan Adapter card for this laptop ??? (Note: I have suspicions that my laptop will NOT allow wireless "N" because after updating the 5100 adapter with the most current driver from Lenovo (i.e. 13.1.1.1, dated 1/13/2020), I find that this drivers' properties only provide wireless a, b, and g protocol choices for selection.....no "N" choice is available.) I am not sure whether this laptop's configuration is not capable of "N" or whether some driver and/or parameter is incorrectly set. Does anyone know for certain????(Incidentally, I have also updated this laptop with all required Microsoft Vista and Lenovo 64 bit SP2 drivers.).Thank you for your help.Regards,drc123

Answer:W500 w/Intel Wifi 5100 AGN compatible w/802.11n ?

Drc123, the Intel 5100 card does support 802.11n at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but isn't a very strong performer. For more info, see the following FAQ:I've seen websites that mention other Intel WiFi cards -- what about those cards? What is 802.11n WiFi, and why is it any better than the older 802.11b or g WiFi?I have an HP or Lenovo netbook -- can I swap a better WiFi card into it?BUYING AN 802.11N WIRELESS ROUTER - KNOW THE FOLLOWING OR SUFFERIf you're NOT able to use the Intel 5100 card to connect to an 802.11n router that's sitting next to you, then you probably have a driver issue. I purchased a T400 (which I LOVE so far) but like a fool, didn't opt for the 5300 3x3 WiFi for $15 more... after some post purchase research, I'd much rather have the extra antennae's for picking up those barely in wifi signals around my house.   Does anyone know if the 5300 card can simply be plugged in to replace the 5100?  It all comes down to whether the 3 antennae's are installed on ALL models, with the connectors ununsed when a laptop comes with the 5100.  Anyone know the answer to this? Regards,-Owen

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

My computer is running on Windows 7 Professional 32bit. It has worked fine for the last 2 years. But recently, my wifi card has started me giving me problems. It detects the wireless networks but connects to them only for around 10-15 minutes after which the connection is not even visible in the list. Then after 30-40 minutes, it can connect but the same problem is there.

Also, I tried to make my own ad-hoc connections and saved them. These connections do work and my friends are able to connect to it and the connection remained active for hours. I did it to check whether the Wifi card is working or not. It does work but only with the outgoing connections that are made by my computer. The networks that in range and are giving problem with my wifi card are working fine for my friends. So, I guess it is not the network's problem.

When I tried troubleshooting it, it gave the problem 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point'. I also tried installing all different driver versions and rollbacking to the default version for my wireless card but the same problem is there. Although in device manager, It says the device is working properly.

Please help me in solving this problem. Exact name of WiFi Card in Device Manager- Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

The same complaints and problems with this 5100AGN adaptor has been around for a long time.

There are countless threads about this on the internet. It seems that disabling the 802.11n Only setting in the routers settings and running in mixed wireless mode can help. Updating the drivers can also help, try the Intel site. > Intel? Driver Update Utility

There are plenty of long threads about this ongoing problem with some possible solutions, so your not alone.

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Hi, since my WLAN Card seems to be broken I bought myself a new Intel Wifi Link 5100 for my W500. After I replaced the old card with the new one, I get a "1802 unauthorized network card error".I googled for the problem an now I am completely pissed about lenovo. My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

edit: correction and clarification.

Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

What AV and firewall are you using?

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

Try the following:-

-Make sure that the hardware switch on the left is turned on (although I guess it already is since your Bluetooth is working).
-Press Fn-F5 -> Radio on the wifi.
-Go in the BIOS -> Config -> Network -> make sure internal wireless is turned on.
-Reinstall the wifi driver:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70476

Hello,         Im interested to use of WWAN in my laptop, My is Thinkpad T400, having with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN.  please guide me with process accesing the simcard slot in laptop. Waiting for your reply. With Regards  Santhosh

Answer:Regarding using wwan in T400 with Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.
When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.
Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.
Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

i slapped on vista ultimate 32, the intel 5100 will be in device manager without any problems.  the only for me to get the blue led to light up again is to do a uninstall in device manager and reboot.  vista will then detect new hardware and reintall the wifi all over again.  this does work but to do it every week suck.  i dont want to buy a new internal or external card either.  this happen to anyone else?

Answer:Y430 intel 5100, blue wifi led doesn't come on. Not fn + f5 problem either.

To clarify, the wireless works, but the blue LED doesn't and the fix you described only temporarily fixes it?  Have you installed all the other drivers as well; the ones located on the d:/ drive?

Hello folks. I have an X61T (7764-CTO) in which the wireless card seems to be failing intermittently. I'd like to replace it with a more modern one, preferably of the 5100, 5300, or 5350 variety. Are there any card w/ these chipsets that are known to work in the X61T? The only card that the Support page lists for this machine is the "ThinkPad abg wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter", FRU 41A4071.  Thanks,Andrew

Hello. We are receiving T400 laptops.  These laptops do not hold a wireless connection for any length of time.  They also have a hard time connecting at boot up.  Item that have been tried...01) Removed and re-installed Drivers.02) Removed and reinstalled Access Connections. (Leap Authorization is used)03) Removed and replaced the Wireless Card. FRU 43Y6943. We are using Windows Xp with SP 2.  The laptop runs fine and we have no complaints with the exception of the wireless.  I might mention that we had the same issue with T61 Models.  To resolve this issue, we removed the B/G/N card and installed B/G cards.  We do not utilize "N" Band, so we do not need this capability.  I was looking for a way to do the same to the T400 Laptops, but I am unable to find a compatible B/G card to use.  The BIOS generates the 1082 error if we attempt to use a card that is not approved for the model.  Any assistance would be appreciated... Thanks. Hi,

I just bought a Sony Vaio with Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 Network Adapter.

I primarily use the notebook at my home & office network.
Home Network Router: Linksys WRT54G
Office Network Router: Beetel 450BXi (ADSL2+Modem)

The issue am facing is while am on to the network (mostly home network) suddenly it goes into limited connectivity & gets disconnected; while other PC's remain connected.

And then you have to either re-install the Wireless LAN driver or re-start numerous times.

This has been happening regularly. Pls assist in resolving the issue.

Dear all,  About 2 years ago i upgraded my win 7 to win 10 version and wirelss stopped working. this problem is well known. Many attempts with netsh id config, reset IP, reinstall drivers, trough a USB whatever, nothing worked. I must conclude that the intel WIFI 5100 driver is incompatible with windows 10. I cannot anymore revert my win 10 upgrade sadly.  My question is whether i can install an older version or another driver type that is compatible on windows 10 ??? if so i would gladly have the driver link or zip file posted  Thanks PS, also my touchpad scrolling feature stopped working, i dont know if this could be related, just in case it could help figuring out where the problem is but i guess its just incompatibility.

This is a new machine (to me). It is a T-500 2242CTO with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN card and a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I successfully VPN using Ethernet from this machine and wirelessly from other machines in my home network.  However, wireless VPN connectivity from this machine fails 100% of the time.  Current drivers and updates are installed.  I am using the Windows VPN client and receive the following message: Error 800: The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed.  I turned on logging and found no useful information, to me, in the mounds of data generated.  I've also un-installed the wireless driver, re-installed it, un-installed Lenovo Access Connections and the same error continues.  Has anyone encountered this issue or have suggested fixes?

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

I have a Gateway FX series 17" laptop and yesterday when I got home from university and took the computer out of my bag to start working, the wireless card just didnt exist, no networks were recognized and when i tried to troubleshoot it told me that no device was connected. Wired internet works just fine. And the wireless card appears in the device manager.

methods i have tried to no avail:
-turning the wireless switch on and off
-uninstalling the device and rebooting
-updating drivers
-manually downloading driver from Intel's website
-insulting the device's mother

I'm suspecting this might be a hardware issue but if anyone has some advice that would be great. For the time being I am just using a wired connection but I'm going to need the wireless when I'm. back in class

Hello everyone,

It is my first thread on this forum and I want to thank you because you indirectly help me so many times.

I just installed new bios 1.25 on my notebook because of usb issues. Everything works fine but suddenly my wifi device stops working on windows 7.
It is well installed, the connection under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections is enabled, but It doesn't see any WiFi spot.

It is not a device hardware problem because it works under ubuntu.

I tried all the usual ways: reinstall drivers etc but nothing happens.

I don't want to reinstall my OS because I'll have too many settings to restore after.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone who fixed it?

This has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel? WiFi Link 5100.

I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem.

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... Acer Aspire 5930g laptop with Intel 5100 WiFi adapter. Been testing Win 10 Tech Preview, switched off WiFi via built-in system switch and since than it completely disappeared from the laptop. Which means when I press WiFi button on the laptop there's no light, the adapter itself is missing from the system ? even in hidden devices. But all the other buttons (Bluetooth, browser) work well. I've tried switching back to Win7, running WinXP from LiveCD, various Linux distribs ? no result. Tried other adapters (all of them Intel), it didn't help. Actually the system found Intel WiFi/WiMAX, but only WiMAX drivers were installed. Tried flashing BIOS, also didn't help. Been advised to install native ACPI utility with hardware buttons drivers. While trying to find it I stumbled upon a software called Acer Drivers Update Utility. It's a third-party software which scans devices and proposes to download driver updates for them. For some money.Yet while scanning it found the card (at least, listed it among devices). When I was scanning the laptop was connected via LAN, and after scanning Windows notificated about installing some bridge and PCI drivers. The button was working, and so was the WiFi card. The next day, when I opened my laptop (as far as I remember, I didn't switch it off then), WiFi disappeared again. I've tried reinstalling the system and repeat the "magic" with Update Utilty, but failed. Of course, I've tried force-installing the driver... Read more

We're in hospital, she's I'll, I am 24/7 carer.

My Vostro 1720 connects promptly at home, WiFi or LAN.

Hospital has public use WiFi provided on each floor. Transmitter has TP-Link on the cover and twin aerials.

The Vostro can see transmitters for 4 floors, the signals come & go and, regularly disappear.

2 iPads & an iPhone stay connected unless, the signal disappears, in the same room. Signals are described as excellent or good.

The Vostro when I bring it in, after using at home, connects automatically. Twice has reached the stage when all 3 links I can see with a decent signal, can't connect, sometimes get asked for the password, run trouble shooter multiple times with no success. First time internet connection worked for 2 days, 2nd time for an hour, then couldn't log on to any link.

I'm puzzled why the Vostro doesn't hold the connection and the IOS devices do.

Public holiday over in a couple of days and I plan to catch the lady chief of the hospital and the IT manager.

I would be most grateful for queries, comments or, references to help in these encounters.

Hey guys firstly thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

_______

**SOLUTION**

1. Reset router and apply settings again. (**Remember to write down any user names and passwords used for your ISP**)

2. Use WPA2-PSK security rather than WPA

3. Connect to network using network password

I have a network card , the one mentioned in title on my laptop , and
Vista system, I have no idea why,but this card loses randomly (sometimes for short sometimes for quite long time) a connection with a router as well as main net, I've tried to deal with a problem by changing the configuration but it didn't work
Can somebody help me? or maybe is it possible to change a card for another one?

I'm not sure what you are asking for as 7yc10ww is not a valid driver file name (they all have 8 characters in the name). However, the current Intel 5100 driver for Vista can be downloaded from here..... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70505 or for XP its here.... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70504 Cheers, Bill

Hi Everyone, I've purchased 2 days ago an X301 and downgraded to WinXP SP3 from Win7 using the Rescue & Recovery Disc that came with the unit. Everything is working fine except the wireless adapter (Intel WiFi Link 5300agn). I cannot find it in the device manager and in Net Connections (Ctrl Panel). T/S done:The current setting of Wireless LAN in BIOS>Security>I/O Port Access is already enabled as well as the Wireless switch at the back but still not detected. I added the adapter manually in Add Hardware in the Ctrl Panel as Intel WiFi 5300 AGN (Device status: Code 10 This device cannot start). Then I downloaded and installed the latest driver (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70496.html) but still not working. I tried using Vista driver as well but still no glory. I tried also the latest driver for WinXP from Intel but still not working. Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Question: slow X301

I am experiencing that the X301 is quite a bit slower than I expected. I use Windows XP professional 2002, service pack 2. The overall performance is disappointing to the extent that I am wondering whether something is wrong with my system. For example, the first loading of Word 2007 in a new session takes 25 seconds, even if working with maximum performance power scheme. Moreover, when trying to insert, for instance, a fraction in the equation editor, it may take between 30 sec and a a full minute before the fraction options become available. This seems excessive for a laptop of this price.Does anybody else experience such a slow performance? Is the problem XP and should I upgrade to Vista? Is it possible to run Vista and XP next to each other?

Answer:slow X301

Not a direct answer I know, but however slow the performance is with XP, it will only be worse with Vista because that takes a bigger processor overhead.

We have fairly new HP DV7T laptops, with the internal Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN card..

We have been through 3 access points at this point, i just now confirmed that i dont think our issue is access point related, at least not the type etc...

Frequently these laptops will suddenly not find ANY networks (wireless ones) to connect to..

Other laptops (dell, asus, iphones) still work fine during these periods.

I've tried playing with configuration settings on the nic itself with no luck.

Currently we have a Dlink Dap-2553 access point.. set to the 2.4ghz mode (since we still have devices that need 2.4ghz)..

I'm not sure what to do to prevent this from happening, short of using express cards, which we dont want to do..

Anyone else ran into this?

Thanks

Question: Slow Logon X301

This may have previously been covered but if not this might be of use to someone. I was getting very aggravated by the time taken to log in to Windows7 on my X301. Regardless of typing the password or using the fingerprint reader it was taking 30secs to 2 minutes. This was resolved by downloading the latest wireless driver from Intel. My wireless adaptor is the 5300 AGN. This problem may or may not exist with others.

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop (ThinkPad T60p) that works just fine with the router uses a11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop (the W500) with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in... Answer:Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Network Adapter does not recognize Linksys Wireless Router

I would like to add some information that I left out that MAY be crucial here.On the NEWER ThinkPad, I am using Access Connections 5.02.  At work, the wireless adapter works properly and I am able to use the Intel Adapter. It is only at home where I have the Linksys Router that I have a problem.I also noticed that when I looked at the Wireless Driver Properties, there was NO tab for "wireless" -- which I would have expected to see....Instead there are only TWO tabs... one for "General" and one for "Advanced"... Just like what you would see for an EthernetAdapter..... this all looks a bit weird to me.....As I did not configure this laptop, I do not know if the Hotkey and Power Manager were installed BEFORE the Access Connections or not.... any ideas? TIA --Zvi

I guess your system is infected and is under the net trojan when you connect with the Internet. Is that behaviour of your system is appearing trough the wired connection with the Internet or BT connection just with the phone (w/o Internet)?

I wasn't exactly sure where to start with issue, so I'm beginning here.

I am trying to get my wife's (rather old) Dell Inspirion 5100 to run at a half-way usuable speed. I noticed McAfee anti-virus was hanging during update, causing the processor to max out at 100%, but still not updating.

At this point, I opted to remove it altogether for now. I disabled Super Anti Spyware before running ComboFix.

I decided to at least run ComboFix initially. Results are posted below.

This is a Dell Inspiron 5100 running XP Home SP3. P4 processor at 2.40gHz, 512MB RAM.

My 5100 notebook is running very slow and I can hear the drive being accessed very regularly and it is affecting playback of media whilst doing other tasks. Even after reimaging with the CDs that came with it it does not improve much.

I'm assuming the drive is dying, but open to suggestions. Out of interest would it make a difference if you had everything on one large partition or multiple ones?

According to Device Manager the drive is a MK6021GAS. Some questions for anyone with the expertise to answer...

1) Must I replace this with the same Toshiba drive?

2) Can I replace it with a larger drive?

3) Has anyone replaced these drives successfully?

4) Any recommendations on where to purchase?

BTW this laptop was bought in Australia if it makes any difference.

Many thanks,
Richard

Answer:Running slow even after reimaging... time to replace 5100's disk drive?

Hi

1) You must not buy exactly the same HDD but it is always recommended to use compatible module.
2) Theoretically yes. . I think that 60 GB is really enough for this unit but I believe that 80 GB HDD should be recognized properly.
3) Drive replacement is very easy and you can do it alone. At the bottom side, near the battery pack, you will find HDD cover. I am not sure but it is fixed with one screw. Remove it carefully and you will see how the HDD is placed there.
4) Google a little bit. You will find a lot of offerors. You can also buy it in every PC store. eBay is also an alternative solution.

Hi All,
I have a friend at work with an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic and AVG Free Version.
Vista is running so slow its not funny. IE: to open the pictures folder will take about 45 130 seconds and then to open each photo it will take up to 3 minutes.
The first thing I could find is it only has 512mb RAM shared with the graphics card so I have ordered 2 x 2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM Sticks for her.
I should get them Monday or Tuesday.
Is there anything I should be looking for that would slow vista down so bad?
The other thing is that Acer have split the 80Gb HDD into 2 x 35Gb Partitions, I was thinking of reformatting the HDD back to just 1 x 78Gb Partition.
Does anyone have any theories on this matter?
Thanks for your help and comments
Andrew

Hi

The user guide doesn't spell out the differences between the S5100-201 and S5100-603 models.
I can work out they are different speeds, memory and hard disk size but what about the internal bits?

I have a broken -603 model with a power control fault. Does anyone know if the systemboard from a -201 model will fit into the -603 unit?

Thanks
Pete

Answer:Differences between Satellite 5100-201 & 5100-603

Hello

I am not technician but I have found info that those units have different graphic card and both can not handle with max RAM.

Satellite 5100-201:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 32 MB
- can handle with max 512 MB RAM

Satellite 5100-603:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 64 MB
- can handle with max 1024 MB RAM

I am not 100% sure but if you exchange the whole Mb with all hardware components I believe that other peripheral devices should work well but I don?t know how it will work with BIOS. Maybe the DMI must be rewritten.

On this forum there are few guys with very good knowledge and I hope some of them will post here and say more about that.

hello.

i have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

thank you in advance for any solutions or suggestions you might have.

Hi my pc is having wifi issues. It is loading webpages very slow and will say "limited" when looking at the network it is connected to. If I disconnect and reconnect to the network it will say connected and then 5-10 mins later will be "limited" again and/or slow.
I thought at first it was my wireless card as both my phone and laptop connect to the wifi / internet speed and connection is fine in the same area. I replaced the wireless card in the PC with a wireless usb stick to connect to the wifi but the problem is exactly the same.
Does anyone know what is happening here or how to fix it?
Tried the following but cant find a fix:
its not a driver issue as ive reinstalled drivers / installed completely new wireless adapter and still same issues
if i reduce connections to the router the issue persists
the router is running on a channel no other routers are running on
if i run speedtest.net on the pc which is have issues the speed is slower than if i run on laptop or phone
Thanks a lot

Question: WiFi is very slow

My internet is very slow. So I have uninstalled the driver to reinstall and check for any improvement. But after installation also there is no change in speed.
But the interesting thing is that, when I have uninstalled the driver at that time the WiFi symbol in the taskbar is gone and shows a ethernet connection and when I click on it shows its connected to my WiFi. So to check the connection to the internet I have opened the browser and it was incredible my internet speed is good. But the happyness doesn't stayed for it disconnected after a few minutes.
Please help me out. I need internet a lot for my project completion and I have very less time.
Thanks in advance

Question: Slow WiFi

Well, it looks like I have solved one problem only to create another. I have a Dell Lattitude laptop with the 15.6 inch display. I bought the laptop mainly for its processing power (Core i7 cpu with 8 gigs of RAM) and it totally screams. I have never been happy with the size or quality of the little 15.6 inch display and I have had my eye out for a 24" LCD monitor which I just found, bought, and love.

The problem I am having now is that since I hooked up the monitor to the laptop docking station I no longer have to open the lid on the laptop to use it and my WiFi internet speed has tanked. Videos (YouTube, etc) that I used to be able to stream at 720 and 1080 now crawl along and I get constant buffering. 480 is not a problem but I want my 720 and 1080, it is one of the reasons why I bought the new monitor. My internet comes into the condo through a back bedroom and connects to my wife's computer via a Cat 6 cable. My laptop is set up in the dining room diagonally opposite the back bedroom. I have already moved the Router to the highest place in the room on top of a 5 foot filing cabinet with only a marginal improvement.

I have a Netgear N600 USB dongle antennae from a previous desktop with a 6' USB A to B extension cable. If I load the drivers for this USB Dongle into my laptop and then connect the Dongle will it automatically override the laptop's built in WiFi or is there more involved? Suggestions and comments are appreciated. Thanks. BTW, I am using ... Read more

I have the same problem on my HP Probook g2. After comparing other laptops and MacBooks, they get 2 or 3 times the wireless speeds that mine gets. The driver supports Wireless -N.

Answer:Wifi Slow

Have you tried changing the broadcast channel? Interferance can cause network speed to drop

I just got an old wifi router from someone because they couldn't remember the password so I reset it and looked up a bunch of ways to try to figure out how to get a password on it and change the username without the the CD it came with. I eventually found a way but when I connected to it, it wouldn't load anything. My phone would recognize it but whenever I did try to load something, it just said not connected.

Brand and model of the router?

You get internet access through the router with an ethernet connection but not with a Wi-Fi connection?

Question: Slow Wifi

Hello,

I have comcast/xfinity 25 MB's internet but it seems that when were on Wifi it tends to be slower like only 6 MB. Now I know that it won't be 25 MB but my brother was getting 6 MB and he was right next to the router. Our Router is a Cisco/Linksys E2500 Dual Band Wireless N and he has a new Dell XPS Core I7 laptop that also has wireless N. So I am just wondering it I could possibly have too much running on my network. I have 2 desktops a PS3 and my Ooma Voip plugged directly into the router plus 3 laptops and then 3 smartphones and 2 ipods running on our network. So can you actually have to much and it actually bogs the network down or should it not be a problem since there not all going at the same time. Also if this matters my one desktop does nothing but run a Minecraft Server. So any ideas on maybe getting better speeds. Like the main thing today was my brother was trying to watch some youtube or whatever and it was just buffering a lot and even on my desktop that is plugged directly in that gets 24-25 MB's according to speedtest.net was buffering some 1080P youtube videos. I will post my ipconfig/all of my desktop PC just in case you need it

Thanks,

Question: Y50 slow wifi

I already posted something about my wifi problem but that did not help. I have a Y50 laptop with "Realtek RTL8723BE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-NIC" as my wireless network adapter. My average download speed is 12Mbps while my other pc has a average of 25Mbps. what I tried- uninstall the drive in the device manager and let windows re-install it.did not work - Prohibit "autodesk application manager" froms startingIt gave me a few Mbps back.  How likely is it that my problem has something to do with a hardware problem or a driver problem because like I said, my other pc is working fine with an average download of 25Mbps. My network adapter settings (the advanced properties of the network adapter I memtioned before):- 802.11d: disabled- Bandwidth: 20_40MHz- Beacon interval: 100- Multi-Channel concurrent: enabled;- Preamble mode: SHort & long- Roaming Sensivity level: Low- Wake on Magic Packet: enabled- Wake on pattern match: Enabled- Wireless mde: Auto I really hope that somebody can help me because this was not a cheap laptop.

Hi Atulrsuri,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Can you check if there is any Anti-virus firewall blocking the network IP for your Wifi?
Remove unwanted application from the startup and check?
Which type of Internet Protocol you are using to connect your Wifi is it IPv4 or IPv6, uncheck IPv6 and check restarting the system?

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Question: Very Slow Wifi

I recently got a lenovo y50 and the wireless connection is terribly slow. All my other wireless connection devices work fine with my router. Any solutions?

Answer:Very Slow Wifi

Are you connecting to a public WiFi network, or your own personal network at home? If at home, is it through Cellular Data, or wired Internet to a ISP (ie catv, dsl, fios).

Question: VERY slow wifi

Hey everyone, just downloaded and installed 8 Pro. I love it, but my internet is extremely slow now. My wife and I were streaming netflix last night and it kept buffering. It never did this on W7.

I just did a speed test on my phone and got 4.9 Mbps. I did the test on my laptop and I got .89 Mbps. I tried updating my drivers but it says everything is up to date.

I did an in place upgrade because I didn't want to have to deal with moving music/pictures/files back and forth this time. Any help? Thanks!

Computer is:
HP Pavilion g7-1019wm Notebook PC
Intel Pentium R CPU P6300 2.27 GHz
4 GB Ram
Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit

Answer:VERY slow wifi

Remember Winodws 8 is just over 24 hours old. Of course the drivers are up to date cause no manufacturer's have had time to create new ones so only the default ones are the current ones.

So you will have to wait for updated drivers to be released. The inplace upgrade could also have an effect cause the drivers it used could be drivers for Win7 and not ones for Win8 which are causing a conflict.

I never had any issues with my Wifi, then again I never upgraded.
