X61 Sierra Wireless HSDPA MC8775 Modem & Vodafone Mobile Connect Compatability

Question: X61 Sierra Wireless HSDPA MC8775 Modem & Vodafone Mobile Connect Compatability

I've got a new X61 which had an internal 3G modem, the Sierra Wireless HSDPA MC8775. It comes with a Vodafone Mobile Connect application that should work with the modem BUT I can't get them to work together - the Modem drivers always seems to time out when I query the modem and the Vodafone application says it can't locate the SIM card. I've udpated the Modem drivers from the Lenovo site to V2.0.13.0 dated 11/01/2007. However Lenovo does not publish an application to manage the connection even though it sticks a Vodafone logo its hardware. Vodafone list Vodafone Mobile Connect software - version 5.10.0020 (Last Updated: 28.06.06) as compatible with the X61.http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=template1...I can't get this app to work with the drivers. It seems really strange that the listed compatible appication is so old. Vodafone have a new version of their applicatuion. V9.1 Last Updated 12.02.07http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=template1...Same problem here. I've tired to get suport from Vodafone and they send me to Lenovo, likewise Lenovo send me back to Vodafone! Has anyone managed to get the X61 with Sierra Wireless HSDPA working with Vodafone Mobile Connect in the UK. It so it would be great to hear what versions of drivers and applications you are using. Or is there anyone at Lenovo who knows how to get this working. I would love to hear from you. regards CHRIS Message Edited by chriswwwww on 01-06-2008 10:55 AM

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Don't bother about the vodafone sw, use access connections which came pre-installed. You can turn wwan on and off using the Fn F5 key combination

Okay, so once again I can't find any info that tell me if Y730 or any ideapad is compatible with PCI-E WWAN GSM Cards. I found a Sierra MC8775 that's a PCI-E but if it's compatible is no where to be found.Does anyone have a resource that lenovo or anyone offers to show what will and wont work. Im upgrading a lot of things on my Y730 but can't find any model #s or compatibility info. For example I wanted to buy an extra power adapter, GOOD LUCK finding that info. Lenovo doesn't offer ANYTHING on their online web store for upgrades. I had to search for 4 hours to find the specifications of 7.1V and at least 135W. I love my laptop but Im becoming more and more frustrated.  Thanks again in advance!!!Message Edited by alohadustin on 02-26-2009 08:41 AM

Answer:Y730 compatible with a Sierra MC8775 PCI-E WWAN HSDPA for AT&T

I doubt this will be answered by someone until facts approved by some user like you who buys and test IRL.

I am trying to get the WWAN adapter built into my X61 to work with Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy here.As I don't have an application to control it (like Access Connection), I have turned off PIN to be able to steer it via a PPP dialer.I have established that the card is detected by the kernel and initialised with three ports, but no matter what I do, I cannot make it connect the PPP session. Here's the output from dmesg:[    3.817169] usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3[    3.969022] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready[    3.989298] usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice[    3.994036] sierra 4-1:1.0: Sierra USB modem (3 port) converter detected[    3.994759] usb 4-1: Sierra USB modem (3 port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0[    3.994803] usb 4-1: Sierra USB modem (3 port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1[    3.994846] usb 4-1: Sierra USB modem (3 port) converter now attached to ttyUSB2and the output from trying to dial with pppd:Dialing...Serial connection established.using channel 6Using interface ppp0Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyUSB0Warning - secret file /etc/ppp/pap-secrets has world and/or group accesssent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0xe0cf92a> <pcomp> <accomp>]rcvd [LCP ConfReq id=0x10 <asyncmap 0x0> <auth chap MD5> <magic 0xf9343e> <pcomp> <accomp>]sent [LCP ConfNak ... I have recently tried to install a Vodafone Mobile Connect Card in a Time notebook PC with AMD XP 2000 processor running Windows XP Home Edition. The installation process has been checked and double-checked but all attempts to establish a GPRS connection result in the entire system locking up.I have tried everything I can think of. Maybe someone more familiar with Windows XP will have a suggestion.

Answer:Vodafone Mobile Connect

We've purchased three SL300's for our business, but having a little issue with the Vodafone Mobile Connects (built-in SIM card). When I run the Mobile Broadband Connect application, it initialises, then offers me a button to sign-up.  When I click the button, it asks me to register etc - which I did.  However, two weeks+ after registering, we're still only seeing the sign-up button, which takes us to the sign-up tab, which states the card has been activated. The question is, seeing as though it's activated, how do we connect to Vodafone Mobile Broadband!? Thanks!

I have a Vodafone Mobile Connect Card which has both 3G and GPRS. I have had it for about 6 months but have never had anything but awful connection speeds. I can usually connect OK but when I try to access any web page it just crawls. 10bps (Yes bits per second)is a common data transfer rate showing on the dashboard. I have tried it in many different locations up and down the country with the same result. I have tried all the settings, re-installation etc but still no good. A discussion with a Vodafone shop elicited the marvellous advice to ring 191 on my phone and Vodafone would tell me how to convert the 3G to 2G!Am I doing something wrong or is this Mobile Connect all hype? Is there a conflict somewhere? Could the card be faulty?

Answer:Vodafone Mobile Connect Card

You're lucky that it works at all!Mine was - fortunately - free with a laptop and it has only worked twice. When it did work though, it was fairly quick at over 300Kb per sec, which is what it should achieve on 3G. On GPRS, it will be a fair bit slower but nowhere near as bad as what you have experienced. Your card is almost certainly faulty. I may still have the direct contact details for the 3G card tech support department - if I can find them, I'll post them here tomorrow.

After having to re-install win xp pro on my laptop I re-installed the Vodafone mobile connect software from the Vodafone 3G modem and everything went well until the program started. All it did was give an error message and that was it.I had problems un-installing it and then re-installed it but it gave the same error message.

I then tried a solution by un-installing the .Net v1.1 and v2.0 that was already installed on my laptop and let the modem install it just incase the installs had gone wrong but I got the same error message as well.Heres a screenshot of it:

I have tried disabling some of the mods I am using to replicate vista\seven like True transparency,etc.. but still it doesn't help.My laptop spec are as follows:
P4 2.0 GHZ M
128MB ATI Radeon IGP 340M
40 gig hdd
unknown speed cd\dvd drive
Can anyone help me asap as I need to use some of the data bundles made available for the sim card I am using before it goes back to my brother so he can give it to his girlfriend.

Thanks.

I've been using this mobile connection for about 9 months now and it has been fine.

I've used these forums many times usually because of Vundo, which seems to be endemic here in Spain. Saying that I have always been able to get rid of it.

Over the last two weeks my connection seems to disconnect when it likes. At first I thought it might be vodafone but now I've noticed that especially in the morning my connection seems to be sending more bytes out that in. It can reach my upload limit of 300 kbps. As the speed of upload gets back towards zero the connection drops. I've checked that I'm not uploading statistics to Vodafone.

How do I find out, what this upload is and where is it going?

Neither Windows Firewall or Comodo Firewall detect anything.
PC Tools AV detects nothing.
Malware bytes detects nothing.

Modem is Huawei E220 usb modem with the latest firmware and software. I tried Vodafone Mobile Connect full version but it was no better, in fact worse as it kept dropping my 3G connection and would not go onto 2G.
I'm not sure what is going on so any suggestions as to where to look greatly appreciated.

Phill

Check the applications tab in Task Manger and see what's running when this happens. If that doesn't show anything, try Process Explorer:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb896653.aspx

Dear Members,

During the Christmas break I purchased a Mobile Broadband Pay As You Go Dongle (HUAWEI Mobile Connect Model: E160e HSDPA USB Stick) while I was staying in Helsinki. I have purchased my computer from UK and I got the dongle from a department store in Helsinki. I took the dongle back to the shop and it was tested by using another computer than mine and it worked fine. I do not understand why it is not working with my computer.

Can someone help me to understand why it is not working?
Thank you.

I just got a USB mobile broadband stick from Vodafone to use in my pc. I've installed it all no probs but the connection is so slow, taking about two minutes to load a page.

I used to be on Virgin fibre optic broadband through ethernet so uninstalled the ethernet adaptor in device manager in case it was interfering with my connection. It's still slow and I should be getting 7mb speeds. It's on contract for £25 per month and I don't want to pay for broadband that's ridiculously slow.

Do I need to configure my pc to get a faster connection or are they designed for laptops or a pc with more memory? I have 49% space on my hard drive and 757mb RAM so not sure what could be slowing it down. My brother got a really fast speed on his laptop with a USB stick last week so quite confused.

Hi everyone.. I am creating an XP 32 BIT image for a Lenovo X201. All is fine except for when I try to run Vodafone mobile connect. It will not recognize that there is a SIM card. I have tried Vodafone 9.2, 9.4 and 10.0. Each one does the same. Unfortunately I work for a company that uses Vodafone connect as it's primary 3G software for all it's laptops. As soon as I install Thinkvantage access connections the Vodafone software recognizes the SIM and connects straight away. However I don't want to leave both types of software on the laptop due to the possibility of a conflict between the two (this has happened in the past). I have uninstalled Access connections with the option of leaving the connection profiles but this doesn't cure the problem when the Image is deployed to another laptop..... All the drivers for the Aircard are up to date as well..  Can anyone help? Thank you!

I just recently subscribed to Sprint Mobile Broadband from the 3G store, and I got the 598U Sierra USB Modem for $30, a free antenna, and bought a router from them.

My question is about the 5 gig limit that Sprint has on it's $60 a month service. If you exceed the limit, you get charged extra. Is there any type of tracking software that shows how much bandwidth has been used?

Answer:598U Sierra USB Modem & Sprint Mobile 5gig limit

What router are you using?

Usually when you use the aircards on your laptop the connection app keeps track of usage (I know sierra's apps do from experience, as does verizons). Through a router it depends on what you are using though.

Anyone else using one of these internal minicards; they seem to be getting more popular?

My problem: previous (T-Mobile/UK) PCMCIA card & SIM came with associated software and 'Speedmanager' that allowed one to select no compression for perfect web pages/images. T-Mobile SIM via Dell minicard gives better connection, but unfortunately no control over the fairly obvious compression.

Previous T-Mobile Communications Center v2.7 software that worked perfectly had to be ditched for v2.10 (Vista) when I moved to a new laptop with that OS. In a somewhat bizarre backward step this comes without 'Speedmanager' (?). There is other laptop specific (e.g. Sony) software from T-Mobile, like the Web'n'Walk Manager v3.1 out today, but nothing for Dell.

So back to the Dell card and software; there is no facility to adjust compression in the latter and endless searching brings up no solutions, upgrades or whatever. I can get a perfect web page by pressing Ctl+F5 after each page download, but that's a bit of a fiddle each time. But the fact that one can, means that perhaps a solution is not far away; maybe in the form of alternative software or some sort of intervention (config file, modem scripts etc?).

Anyway, if anyone has got any bright ideas I would be very grateful; thanks

Hi,I am having a problem with my Sierra HSDPA Adapter of my X300. When  online with the adapter, it sometimes looses the connection, disappears from AccessConnections, the machine issues a sound like diconnecting a USB device. Some seconds later, the process just reverses: the sound of a connected USB device, the adapter reappears in ACCon and ACCon prompts me for the PIN of the SIM card. This happens quite often recently, some times 2 or 3 times per hour.... In some occasions I got a BSOD 0x00000044 which seems to be related. I would suspect the adapter card itself, any other suggestions? RegardsRonald

What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

I have just taken delivery of a B50-30 All in One and it doesn't recognise my Telstra 4G Broadband Modem Device which plugs into a USB port and imports a Connection Manager which then initiates connection to the internet.. Although the machine makes  a tingle when the modem is plugged in (have tried all different USB ports) - this would seem to indicate that it recognises a new device - the Connection Manager icon doesn't pop up. The modem User Guide says it can be loaded manually by finding and clicking on the file "setup.exe". Couldn't find this file even though there is virtually nothing on this brand new computer. Any help appreciated.

Maybe there appear a new folder under "My Computer", when you plug in the Device, where the setup.exe is located.

Hello,I've just did a fresh reinstall from XP to Vista. I can not get the driver for the internal MC5720 Sierra Wireless Card (Verizon service) to work. I've located the drivers and installed them, but the modem is still not recognized and still says not drivers installed in Device Manager. Please help! Thanks,Rich

Hi Support, I would like to change a setting, so that the Sierra Wireless Adapter only connects to 4G networks. In Windows 10, I cannot see anywhere where I can easily set this. I would expect there to be mobile management software where these settings could be changed. I never want to connects to GPRS, and would like my Sierra Wireless mobile card to only connect to 4G or not connect at all. This would prevent the card dropping down to GPRS when the signal is temporarily weak and force it it to try for a 4G connection. I have had similar functionality on prior USB mobile data cards I.e. Vodafone, and hence the expectation that there would be similar settings on the Sierra Wireless. Thank you, George

I have an X1 Yoga 20FQ with Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit and a Sierra Wireless EM7455 WAN card that came with the unit from Lenovo and an AT&T micro SIM card (also in the unit when it came from Lenovo). I also have the latest Lenovo software for the Sierra Wireless card (v. 7.47.4743.0105) from the Lenovo web site. The WAN card will connect to HPSA on AT&T (using the "default APN" and "broadband" in the Win 10 settings) but it will not connect to AT&T LTE. The AT&T web site at https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218316 says to use NXTGENPHONE as the APN, but when I input that as the APN the card does not see it at all. I know that NXTGENPHONE is the LTE APN because that is the APN that my cell phone uses for its LTE data connection. AT&T tech support told me I the Windows 10 and NXTGENPHONE APN settings are correct and the AT&T diagnostics show I an LTE connection is available to me.I realize that there can be sources for this problem (Win 10 or AT&T) but I thought I would ask here to see whether anyone has experienced the problem or has a solution.Thanks.

Question: re Vodafone mobile

I just recently bought a phone off ebay. But there a problem that I'm unsure about. When I switch on the phone, it keeps searching network then going on to emergancy calls only?.I'm not sure how to solve it as the seller did state the problem to me before sale.Does anybody know how to overcome this?.Do you think it needs a new sim card?.from Sarah

Answer:re Vodafone mobile

It sounds like it's locked to a particular network and then SIM you have in not suitable. Sometimes PAYG SIMs can't be used in contract phone seither.

I use Sprint Mobile Broadband ( a usb modem) and I connected the WII to my laptop with a WII LAN Adapter. I know I have to create a bridge between my laptop and the WII LAN adapter but which networks do i bridge? The only networks that show up are 3 LAN or high speed networks called Local Area Connection Network Cable Unplugged, Local Area Connection 5 Not Connected, and Wireless Network Connection Not connected, and 1 Dial up network called CDMA Sierra Wireless Compass which is the USB modem I use to connect to the internet. I've tried bridging any 2 of the LAN or High Speed Internet networks but i end up with a network bridge that says "network cable unplugged." I have already switched my Modem to allow network sharing but i just dont know about the bridging? I also don't use a router. So my questions are which networks do i bridge? How do i know which network is the WII LAN Adapter, and how do i create a bridge that isn't "unplugged?" Please respond. I'll respond if you have any questions.

Hello,

This is my first time when I post here, hope I will give u the info u need to help me.

Affected item:

-Nokia E71 (a modern HSDPA-capable 3G UMTS mobile phone) - self-powered, connected via USB

Symptoms:

After having successfully established an Internet connection, any amount of serious downstream load will result in

* stop of downstream TCP/IP
* the connection "hanging" (which materializes in TCP/IP disconnects due to timeouts later on)

If I try only to open pages, not a serious downstream the connection is ok.

Affected system:

* Windows 7 (64bits) Professional
* Asus M50SA
Note:

If I do the same thing on a Windows XP works fine
If I connect via the Standard Modem over Bluetooth link works again fine(in Windows 7)
I have installed the latest drivers for the usb cable, and I have the Windows 7 system upgraded

Please help me.

Answer:High-speed mobile Internet (HSDPA via USB) unusable due

HELP! I am trying to install a Vodafone Mobile Broadband unit onto my laptop, I am running XP (I think SP2) and I keep on getting an error message stating that Administrative Privelleges are required - I am the only user and have, or so I thought, full administrative rights! The laptop has never previously been connected to the internet so I don't see that there would be any malware / trojans stopping me from doing this. Can anyone help me!?

srg,
welcome to tech support guy,

if your system was set up correctly, you SHOULD be using a user account, for the security that the nt systems provide,
thus, you just log off of your user account, then log back in as the administrator to install something,
then, DON'T forget to log off as the administrator and then back onto the user account

Recently however, I can only use one network and it fails to detect other networks that are different to those that are Vodafone or Vodafone affiliated. What could be the problem? Do I have to reinstall the software or are there other solutions? thanks.

Hello,My friend is really no good with laptops and i also know very little but she really wanted the internet at her flat. After looking into many options we decided the most cost effective option for her was to have mobile broadband and it seemed Vodafone offered the best deal. I managed to get her a second hand laptop which is old but in perfect working order and runs on Windows XP. The dongle arrived and i thought it would be a straight forward process, unfortunately this has definitely not been the case. On plugging the dongle in it just connects for exactly 10 to 11 seconds and then disconnects and repeats this process.I have now been on the phone to Vodafone on 5 occasions for up to 1hr 20mins at a time and they have been extremely unhelpful and i am losing hope. One technician managed to get it to connect by changing the com ports (i think that's what they were called) but on restarting it went back to normal doing exactly the same thing. The signal says very good so i don't think that is the problem either. I began to wonder if it was the laptop so we managed to loan her brothers new laptop which runs on Vista, however it does exactly the same on this one!Has anyone had any similar problems or any suggestions as to what it may be? I appreciate anyone's thoughts on this!

Answer:Problem with Vodafone Mobile Broadband

Go into Control Panel and check within Power Options - set all options to never (these settings can be changed again later if necessary). This may or may not work, but worth a try.

How can i prevent my Vodafone usb stick device to enter in 3G mode when the network is very low usage or not at all. If i open google for example, it turns automatically on HSUPA mode with a better speed, but if im doing nothing after 1min or so it goes back on 3G more slower speed. So the 3G / HSUPA mode is auto switched depending on demand based on how much speed is needed at that moment.
I am playing an online game and the network usage by the game when im inside playing it, is not in that range to trigger the HSUPA mode, and just stay in 3G causing me to have lots of lag, is there a workaround for this so when im playing the game to be connected with HSUPA instead of 3G? ( i was thinking about some kinda of slow trafic generator that generates a litle trafic continuously to trigger that HSUPA mode while im playing, but not sure if is possible and also not too much to affect my conection speed which is slow anyway on a mobile)
You can see in the picture, the ping on google while its both modes, as u can see 3-5times ping increase while its on 3G.
Any ideeas ? thanks

It's either an option in the software or it can't be changed and is controlled by the carrier. I'd lean toward the latter.

Hi, my friend took out a mobile broadband contract with Vodafone 2 months ago and has nothing but problems since. I have spent over £30 on phone calls trying to get their technical dept to help but they either cant help or promise to ring back but never do. The problem is that the dongle connects to the network/internet for only 10seconds then disconnects, as you can imagine this is infuriating! I rang Vodafone on her behalf to ask to cancel the contract but the operator is just refusing to cancel the contract without paying up the contract even though I pointed out that my friend is just not getting any benefit from the faulty dongle!! The operator gave her the usual line of 'my supervisor is in a meeting' and she didn't know when she would be out of it! We are tearing our hair out, please please can anyone help us???

Good day everyone, first off, thanks for letting me ask a question here
I have a 3G Vodafone Mobile Broadband dongle and am trying to install and use it on an Acer 5744 Travel mate. I have downloaded the latest software version and installed it on the laptop. When I run the Vodafone application my laptop hangs and becomes non-responsive, indicating to me a software/hardware conflict. I have disabled anti-virus software and firewalls with no positive effect. The crazy thing is it works fine on my Alienware laptop, but refuses to work on the Acer? Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions for me please?

Appreciate any assistance I can get here

Hi, I have Y 410 3000. it dnt have inbuilt HSDPA / 3G modem. where can i buy cheapest compatible modem. Is lenove recomended any product. Lakmal

Answer:HSDPA Modem, usb or pcmcia

Most of the HSDPA 3G USB modems on the market are from Huawei, it is used by all the major telecommunication companies around the world, it can achieve a maximum speed of 3.6 mb/s in burst mode. While, many current Nokia 3G mobile (there are other mobiles that can do it too, but i never used them before) have HSDPA modem built in, which can be accessed in usb or bluetooth mode. I am not sure there are any HSDPA modem that is still made in PCMCIA format, they are usually made in Expresscard format by Huawei too..... If you got a compatible mobile, then that would be the cheapest, otherwise the usb HSDPA modem is the cheapest.

My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.

In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there any way to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901?

Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection. I am using Windows 7.

Thanks!

As of today, I am the proud owner of a W500. Came with built-in Vodafone mobile broadband, incl an offer for a 30-day no-charge trial for UK customers (of which I am one). Just need to register with Vodafone and off you go. So far the theory. The practice is that the ICCID registered with the W500 is not recognised by the Vodafone online registration system, and the Vodafone sales and support people don't seem to have any idea how to activate the trial, either. Am mightily peefed about this - so peefed that I have emailed the Vodafone CEO just now. Anyone else here succeeded registering for the trial? If so, can they share any hints and tips?

Answer:W500 with built-in Vodafone mobile broadband

hifirstly you wont be long a proud owner of a W500, the machine sucks, standby for hassle with it, oh its already started!my online registration didnt work online, i had to go back to lenovo, and vodafone, in the end vodafone sent a new sim card through, and gave me a trial period based on being a new potential customer, rather than as part of the machine trial offer. i have signed up permanently now and it does work, though with the same signal problems as a phone experiences.rgds

Hi every1

Due to my location, I cannot use a landline so, I use a data card connection - I had Vodafone before but their charges were getting silly so went over to T Mobile. I removed all componants of Vodafone everywhere on my pc including "ghost" entries on dos.

My problem is:

Often, my whole laptop freezes - the screen, mouse, keyboard etc (BUT I can still hear whatever TV programme I am watching!) The PC will not turn off - basically zilch!! I then have to remove the data card & the whole thing then shuts down & re boots on its own. This has only happened since I went over to T Mobile & using their card - their help desk do not know why.
It does not happen every day but, sometimes it will work ok for 3 days say, then it will occur 2/3 in one day

Any1 with any ideas please advise - driving me bonkers !
Many Thanks

Answer:can i use my mobile phone for a wireless modem?

The short answer is "Yes" but it will be very expensive. You also have to have the correct type of mobile phone account. It will not be the Tiscali account - it will be one provided by your mobile phone account provider. Try going to their website; the information you want will probably be there.

Hello!

I have an XP with SP3 installed. I have a GlobeTrotter Option HSDPA modem, I've used it for a year now.
Suddenly, after a restart, Windows can't see the device as a network device, only the ZeroCD (install USB stick) part of it.
After each restart, Windows finds the drivers, each time installing the drivers, after what the GlobeTrotter software "can't see the device", so I cannot use it, cannot connect.
The modem works fine in other computers.
My machine has other USB devices working fine.

What can cause it? Something to do about Windows' USB handling?

Thanks!

Answer:Connect a Wireless Modem to ADSL modem for Wifi

The "nokia siemens SL2_141" is a modem/wireless router combo; I assume that "A Wireless Modem of MTS" is also a modem/wireless router combo.

If my assumption is correct you can use the Nokia as an ethernet switch and wireless access point ...

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If ther... Read more

Hi

You configure the phone to connect to the wifi network (assuming you are trying to use your wifi network for your phone). It should then remember the configuration and can/will connect whenever it is within range.

Hi there

I am having trouble installing a USB HSDPA/3G modem (Huawei E220) on my PC. In theory, when I plug it in a USB port, it should autorun installation etc as a plug and play device. However, it does not, and my device manager indicates that a new CD ROM drive and USB mass storage device have been added when I plug it in, but not a 3G modem. Neither the "cd rom drive" nor the "mass storage device" can be opened. I tried unsuccessfully to uninstall one of them at a time in device manager. If I try to "safely remove hardware", before unplugging the modem, nothing happens (hour-glass cursor) and Task Manager shows it as "not responding". I am running on Windows XP.

The weird thing is that it installed on my laptop, no problem. Aaaaargh!

Please help.

Thanks

Hey guys,
Another guy and I have been struggling with this for the past few days: We give WYSE laptops out to our users who need a machine when they go offsite. Normally this works all well and good; we set them up with a PCMCIA wireless data card so they can connect to the Citrix server here and access everything they need.

Well, we're having problems with our AT&T data cards. More specifically, the connection manager software. I've tried everything and it simply will not install - I've given up on that at this point.

That being said, is there any way in Windows XP to add a HSDPA modem as a dial-up connection in the Network Connections dialog? It just doesn't seem to want to take

Question: USB VODAFONE MODEM

I AM USING WINDOWS 7 AND I CANT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET, I GET MESSAGE SAYING SIM NOT RECOGNISED,WHAT COULD BE A PROBLEM

Hi,
My wife recently bought a Toshiba Satellite U500 which came pre-installed with 64 bit Windows 7.

A few days later, I bought her a USB HSDPA broadband modem by Alcatel. The problem started immediately as we plugged in the modem, as the drivers wouldn't install.
Then I went to Alcatel's website and found drivers for windows 7 for it. But then we hit another roadblock since now the drivers are installed and it does detect the modem but everytime we try to connect to the internet, the screens flickers to connecting for an instant and then gets disconnected again.

I found this a lil strange so I tried connecting using my own pc which has a 32 bit Windows 7 and it works fine there.
Same goes for a machine which still had Windows XP. Makes me think its something to do with 64 bit Windows 7 itself. Could anyone help please?

Thanks and regards.

Answer:Satellite U500 - Problem with Windows 7 and HSDPA USB modem

I don't believe someone here can help you with this issue. You will be very lucky if someone on this forum has exactly the same notebook model including same USB modem.

In my opinion you have two options: either you can clarify this with Alcatel support (they have enough experience with own products) or with service people by nearest Toshiba service provider.

Have you tried to test functionality with Win7 32-bit version?

Dear guys,
I bought a new usb modem HSDPA 3G Huawei E 220, and work properly in others, with both Windows Xp or even in Pentium 3 Windows 2000. But a problem occurs in my computer Windows Xp SP2, Intel Core Duo 2.8 Ghz, when I plugged the usb modem not detected as a modem just only "usb mass storage drive" and in "my computer" recoqnized as a "cd drive" not as "mobile connect" (huawei). I have tried to solve in device manager, try to update driver etc, no results. Also repair my operating system from bios.
Can anyone solve my problem, ? Please share with me.
Regards,
Otokits.

I have a problem downloading update for Adobe reader + vodafone mobile broadband dongle. I am receiving message as follows
The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if windows is not correctly installed.
I have just purchased ultrabook with windows 7.

Answer:Can't download and install update for Adobe reader + vodafone mobile dongle

Take a look into this MS knowledge base article:

+Error ?The Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed? when installing or updating programs on Windows 7 or Windows Vista+
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2642495

This is not Toshiba notebook problem but system issue... so check Microsoft forum and knowledge base for further details.

Good Morning allI wonder if you could help with some info. My son lives in a flat with no land line and was thinking of buying either the vodafone USB Modem Stick or the Vodafone USB Modem to get him connected to a computer. Has anyone used one and if so has it been reliable? Many thanks, regards Tony

Answer:Vodafone Modem Stick

Yes they are pretty reliable, depending on your mobile reception. Remember though that there is usually a relatively small monthly download limit, I think it's 3GB in Vodafone's case, so tell him not to be downloading too many videos and music files.

I was using this modem on my old computer with XP windows. Now I bought this Notebook with Vista Premium (Satellite L300-11Q).
I tried everything it keeps giving error says: 'Cant find device' but I manage to download drivers.

Now its asking for AUTHENTICATION NUMBER which I don't know

Answer:How to install HUAWEI E220 HSDPA USB modem on Satellite L300-11Q?

Hello

Please don't be mad on me but I don't understand you at all. You try to install ?some? third part external device and you ask notebook manufacturer how to do this.
For me it is logical to go in other direction ? the same question should be present to modem manufacturer.

They have good experience with own products and offer support for different operating systems.

So before you wait here, contact modem manufacturer and ask for help.

Last weekend I had to resort to getting a Vodafone USB Sim card modem for my desktop because Italia Telecom are too damn lazy to install a landline to my house.

Anyway, I am getting very poor reception and download/upload speeds and was wondering if there was a way of improving matters.

I have put the Sim card in my cell phone to find the best spot and that is by the window in an upstairs bedroom, which is totally impractical. At the moment I have had to wheel the computer to the opposite side of the living room to get at least some reception.

Is there some sort of box or antenna I can mount outside on the roof or some sort of Heath Robinson contraption I can build to improve preformance?

One other problem is that the USB cable that came with it is only about 50cm but when I plug it into my 1.75m cable it does not work even though the cable is fine. So not very flexible.

Thanks.

Answer:Poor Vodafone USB modem signal

There can be something disturbs a signal? This can check. You can try to make the external aerial from a copper wire. I was helped by five metre wire, 1.5 radius

Answer:Vodafone modem on Windows 7 64bitOS

Have you talked to your provider about this problem? Do you need drivers for the device? If so, are you using 64-bit drivers? Is the device compatible with a 64-bit operating system? Your provider must have instructions, drivers, and support available. They're in the best position to help you troubleshoot this.

how to switch mobile operator while roaming with Sierra EM7455 or manual select the operator ?? is there any guide out there ?

Not sure if this is a problem, more just a question... I installed a brand new Sierra EM7455 WWAN module a few days ago in my X260--got it direct from Lenovo. Getting it working was a little convoluted (had to reset BIOS) but it connects just fine to AT&T. The question or concern I have is when ever I restart the computer, I get a pop-up in the lower right that says "Configuring mobile broadband device...Do not shut down or restart Windows." It takes about 1-2 minutes, says "success" then everything is fine. The "problem" is that this happening every time I reboot. Has anyone seen this or know what's wrong? I've attached a screenshot of the message. I installed the official Lenovo drivers for the EM7455. I tried uninstalling the Sierra package and the message goes away--but so does the WWAN module... I re-installed the driver package and now the message is back. I had an X250 with the previous gen Sierra WWAN module and it was generally trouble free, no strange issues like this. Thanks

Hi all, I have not had any luck with Lenovo or Verizon so far in trying to get broadband set up. I also can't seem to find any directions online (or anywhere else for that matter) explaining what I need to do (if anything) to set up broadband.. other than showing up at the Verizon store. I am trying to get my Mobile Broadband configured for work and for some reason nobody is sure what the problem is. So I have a simple question (with hopefully an easy answer)...Has anyone connected their Thinkpad X1 Yoga to Verizon wireless Broadband? If so, can you please tell me the steps you went through to do so? Thanks for your help!

I just got my wireless broadband and can't connect with my dell inspiron 530.

It first told me that 'this computer does not have a wireless network adaptor installed and configured'

Then I tried to connect another way, and it was asking me for user name and password. I put in what was on the back of the wireless adaptor - the name, and the wifi key number as the password. It looked like it was trying to connect but didn't.

I have a laptop as well and that connected straight away with no problem.

Have tried to google for the answer but nothing I can find really makes any sense to me - can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Vodafone Connect card!
I have successfully used a vodafone connect card for two years now with my IBM Thinkpad, but have recently had a peculiar problem in that I lose the Internet connection to Vodafone Live as soon as it makes the connection!
I've spent a lot of time with the Vodafone Data Support team, trying to solve the problem, with them monitoring all activity whilst trying various solutions, but they have now concluded that somethingon my laptop is grabbing the connection and diverting it to my landline connection, which is not recognised by the GPRS system.
Running w98se, I have run my anti virus programs, and Spybot Search and Destroy, but all came up clean.

The following is a Hijack log, which hopefully will enable someone to pin point, if there is something amiss!
