TrackPoint and touchpad button are not working, HELP~~~

Question: TrackPoint and touchpad button are not working, HELP~~~

Hi All, I am very upset as my new x61's TrackPoint and Touchpad Button are not working at all... This is my first Thinkpad Notebook. I really have no idea why is that? I have downloaded and installed the driver for Trackpoint and system reboots. And i update the drive from device manager. But the problem still existed.... I am so disappointed... Is there anyone have the same problem? Or can someone give me some help on this!??? By the way, i am using vista business version of OS.... Thanks J.

Preferred Solution: TrackPoint and touchpad button are not working, HELP~~~

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: TrackPoint and touchpad button are not working, HELP~~~

Wowzer J, that sounds frustrating. It is odd if you have a brand new X61 that the TrackPoint is not working. Did you just buy it from Lenovo? What exactly do you mean by "not working at all"? Even if the Lenovo drivers are not working, Vista includes drivers which will enable you to use the TrackPoint. One of the tricky things abou the Lenovo software downloads is that many of them require you to download, double click the downloaded software to extract it, then navigate to the extracted software folder to run the setup.exe to install it. The TrackPoint drivers first extract to C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TRACKPT.V32. You have to go there to run setup.exe. I'm also assuming that you really have an X61 and mis-spoke when you mentioned Touchpad. The X61 does not have a touchpad.

My left button, both on the trackpoint and touchpad does not respond. I've been forced to use a USB wired mouse to get the left click to work.I did try an MS wireless mouse in the USB port, that doesn't work either.

Answer:Left button, trackpoint and touchpad

I find it difficult to believe not one reply, nada, zip, nothing. I would expect at least one reply to my question from Lenovo. Difficult working without the left tracking button not working and the left touchpad button not working button. Neither of which works. Do I need factory service or what?

I am used to using external mouse with left hand, but using Trackpoint with right hand. However, in the UltraNav utility, when I swap the left/right button for external mouse, the Trackpoint is also affected by this swapping. What I want is external mouse for Left hand and Trancpoint for right hand. Howeve I can't set that for Trackpoint specifically. Can anybody help me on this? So many thanks!

Neither Touchpad/TrackPoint are working on my R60. I was using it fine about 2 hours ago. Then I drove home when it was in sleep mode, and since it hasn't worked. I have tried to install the latest drivers from System Update under the blue button and also from Lenovo and still didn't work. When I go to check and make sure they are enabled all I get is this:UltraNav has been disabled in BIOS.So when I go to BIOS, it says that it is automatic. There are only 2 options for them. Automatic and Disabled. So what the heck is going on here? Thanks,Mac

Answer:Touchpad/TrackPoint NOT Working R60

Welcome to the forum! Try reverting BIOS to default settings (F9 once you enter it and F10 to save and exit) to see whether that changes anything. Good luck and let us know.

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

Answer:New X1 Carbon, touchpad and trackpoint not working at all

Hi.

Just in case here it is a pointer to the Support site of the X1 Carbon.
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/x1-carbon-help

I guess you have the 5th Gen, can you validate that?

What about the driver listed on the support site of the 5th Gen ? It seems to have some Synaptics driver and even some firmware update for it. Have you tried installing those ?

If you don't have the 5th Gen please specify the model to find the correct support site.

Hi, I have a computer where the both the touchpad and trackpoint just stopped working. I can see it in the device manager, and it says it is working, but I get no response. If I look in the mouse options, I can see that the touchpad stands as activated, but at the same time it is grayed out. I can't deactivate it. The trackpoint is completely deactivated and grayed out. I have tried to remove the device and see is Windows reinstall it properly.I have downloaded and installed the latest driver fro both Lenovos supportsite and Synaptics. All so I tried to go into safemode. All the above with no success. I can plug in an USB mouse, and it will work fine. I need some help on what I can try, so I can get this to work.

Answer:Touchpad and trackpoint not working on an E530

Hi, Mhystique

There is a BIOS update that was released about two weeks ago that may be able to help the issue. This update can be found here. If that does not work, then the issue is likely hardware and the TouchPad will probably need to be replaced.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,Adam

Hi,My x220 4290's touchpad, trackpoint, and touchpad buttons and trackpoint buttons refuse to work. I'm having to use a USB mouse for the time being. I've tried to update the synaptics driver to the latest one which unfortunately hasn't helped. At the moment the system runs Windows 10 (has been for the last few months) with the latest BIOS installed. The touchpad and trackpoint don't even show up in device manager where they used to show.I opened the system up to check if the ribbon cable for the touchpad and the keyboard were both seated correctly. Reseating didn't help. Does this spell the end to my x220? Is there any way to fix this? Many Thanks, Saajan

So I have an Thinkpad Edge E520 and for some reason my touchpad and trackpoint stopped working completely last week. I have a wireless mouse, which I am still able to use, but I want to still be able to use my trackpoint and touchpad. When I go to the device manager for the mouse, I see that my laptop doesnt have the Ultranav thing anymore, and when I try to install the driver on my laptop, it still does not show. Another problem I have had with my laptop which may be in relation to this is that my keyboard is acting strange. It will work for a while, but it will then stop working. If i put the laptop to sleep, then wake it up, it will work again for a few more minutes then will stop. I have attempted to restore my computer to factory settings, but the problems still occur. Has anyone else had this problem?

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

Hi, I've got this problem for a couple of days now, but I can't resolve it. I got this laptop since 2 weeks now, and everything worked fine, but all of the sudden I noticed my touchpad isn't working anymore. Already tried:Reinstalling the UltraNav driversPushing Fn+F8, as said in many cases, although this wasn't expected to work. I got aeroplane mode under Fn+F8.Opening the UltraNav settings, but I don't get the window as in this link. Instead I get this.Updating the BIOS.Check whether they might be disabled in the BIOS, but both the trackpoint and touchpad are enabled.Delete the device drivers and restart windows.Go to a previous recovery point on which it was known to work.Bring the windows back to factory settings, removing all files.So..But still: it doesn't work. Funny to see is that when I open the system tray icon setup, I can see the UltraNav tray icon and it says "TouchPad = Pointer, TrackPoint = Disabled". Could anybody help me with this?  Edit: while writing this message it mysteriously started working again after reinstalling Windows again and configuring the newest updates for Hotkey. Only now, this happened to me this afternoon as well, but it stopped working again after the external screen was detached and the usb of the wireless mouse was disconnected. Therefore I still post this message for it will probably happen again. Any help on how it could all have started? And more importantly: how it can be stopped?

T510: I had to fix the Yellow DC-Input which fell into the laptop. I removed the KB and KB bezel where the TouchPad sits. I did this using the Hardware Maintenance PDF from Lenovo. Now both the UltraNav pointer and pad do not work and are not recognized in device manger. The only way to get around is via a Microsoft USB Mouse. I am using the latest BIOS. I have tried disabling and rebooting, returning to automatic, uninstalling, taking out the battery and power cable, pressing the power switch for 10 seconds ? etc. etc. When I press Fn +F8 it tells me the driver is not installed, but Synaptics 16.2.19.9 is installed ?I checked both cables under magnification to see if they were damaged. I also looked at the sockets. No bent pins on any of the 4 parts.BTW: I have another T510 in the lab, also running Win 7 Pro 64bit. It works fine. I can connect or disconnect the MS USB mice ? nothing prevents Fn +F8 from working and both the pointer and pad work.I have searched the forum and the internet, nothing seems to work.Any ideas?

Is it showing in device manager? If so is it showing that there is a problem? Is the ultranav software working? If not you could try re-installing the ultranav software or rolling back the drivers if everything shows that it is fine. Good luck.

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.

My boss has a Edge 15 laptop and her Touchpad nad Trackpoint stopped working for no apparent reason.  Is there a keybaord shotcut to enable these?  It is on automatic in the BIOS.  Pointer will not move at all with trackpoint and/or touchpad, works fine if i plug mouse into USB. Help please I am at a loss unless hardware failure.

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpoint stopped working

I have heard of this happening before and the cause was a cable that was not firmly connected under the palmrest.  Your best bet is to call Lenovo support and arrange to have the system sent back for repair.  If you're handy with such things, you could remove the palmrest and check to make sure that the ribbon cables are firmly seated onto the motherboard.

Hello, I have bought a thinkpad l412 in january and suddenly the touchpad & trackpoint are not working. I've have tested under Win7 and Linux both are not working. On win7 when I press fn+f8 an alert appear and say that my ultranav driver is not installed. When I check in bios -> config -> keyboard / mouse -> there is nothing about ultranav or trackpad. Thanks for your help.

Answer:L412 - Touchpad & trackpoint not working

Hi and welcome to the forum m0g,

Check the internal cable and verify it's in place, if so, try reseating it, you can find keyboard and palmrest's removal instructions in the HMM or at lenovo's service video website.

Sometimes putting BIOS configuration to default values also helps.

Keep us updated.

Hi, I just purchased a SL500 from Lenovo. The UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) is not working. I have installed the drivers via the Lenovo website but still not working. I have always done all the windows updates, and Thinkvantage system updates, but still no joy.  I also installed the UtraNav Utility (which does not even show up under Thinkvantge after installation). Fn+F8 brings up the Mouse properties box, but there is no tab for the UltraNav device etc. I want to try a possible resolution via this forum before contacting Lenovo support. Thanks for your assistance! ***lenovo SL500, Vista Business 32***

Installing drivers from lenovo website was kind of tricky for me, initially. All I used to do was to run the setup.exe file; until someone told me that the drivers gets extracted in another folder in C:\. The installation instructions are given on lenovo website, make certain you are not making the same mistake like me:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70341.html Else, I fancy the keyboard might have gone bad, contact lenovo in that case. Hope it helps.

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

Firstly I'll explain the freezing issue (this is now the 3rd time I've typed this, as the first two times my laptop froze before I finished!)I run my laptop with the battery at 100% and plugged in and that's fine; as is running it on battery. The problem arises when my battery is low and I plug it into recharge. Soon after it's running on a/c the screen will go black and only way to shut down is by holding the power button. If I try to restart it too soon, the indicator lights next to the power button will illuminate, but the screen will stay black. Usually after 5-10 minutes it'll boot to the IBM screen & boot the rest of the way, but not too long into normal operation it'll go black again (sometimes hitting ctrl/alt/del will bring the screen back but it would be very distorted (pixilized) and would go black again and reboot. What could be causing these problems while recharging the battery? I've tried this with a couple different batteries (both OEM IBM) and it does it with both.  Secondly, both left and right "mouse" buttons are now nonfunctional (though the middle button of the track points works.) I have the latest version of Ultranav Wizard and all the buttons are enabled. The touch pad and trackpoint ball work fine, just the 2 left and 2 right buttons do not. What could be the culprit for this issue? Luckily I have a usb mouse so that's what I'm using for the time being.Message Edited by GoalieFergy53 on 02-14-2009 02:30 PM

And also I load the setup to default from BIOS (both trackpoint and touchpad are "ON") None of the current solutions I can find on the forum works, so please help me !

Trackpoint + dragging is still not working with the Ultranav middle button as of 16.2.19.2 driver. It's an extremely important function for any 3D graphics program. With the Lenovo driver it's not possible to use the middle button + trackpoint to navigate in these programs! Lenovo, please fix this bug. It's working perfectly if I install the latest Synaptics driver. It's only happening with Lenovo's driver. Using Synaptics driver is not an option, because it has no guard against keyboard typing + touchpad accidental clicking. Test:Testing is very easy.1. Set your middle button behaviour to "None".2. Above an empty area of your desktop, click the middle button + try to move the mouse pointer with your trackpoint. The pointer isn't moving! It's the same thing what happens in any 3D graphics program! You cannot navigate your camera, unless you use an external mouse! Fix:Please fix it. Just don't stop the trackpoint pointer when someone clicks the middle button in "None" settings. System: Using a W520 for the reference.

Answer:Trackpoint + middle button dragging still not working in Ultranav 16.2.19.2 driver

I am not a professional CAD user, but I too want to be able to use the middle button as if it were a normal mouse. There is a lot of software that utilize the middle mouse button and can't handle the silly scroll feature. Did you find a work around? You mentioned something about Synaptics.

On my L420, i had it set so i can move the mouse with my thumb and scroll with my index finger with the center trackpoint button.

However, the Ultranav options are different for the W541, so, (as far as i can tell) i can't find the option to replicate this.

See screenshots of my configuration.

Basically, i want my center trackpoint button to be always in "scroll" mode, without the need to press the middle button and scroll like on the L420.

Hi! I need help regarding my Idealpad S10 touchpad, the left button doesn't work but the right button works properly. I tried reinstalling the driver and still doesn't work. Thanks for the help.

Answer:Help: Right button of the touchpad is not working

Have you tried pressing it a lot harder? It may work that way but in any case it is most likely that it is a mechanical problem and best to refer to your local Lenovo service centre. Unless you are the adventurous type and would open up the palmrest to access the click button itself to check but this will void the warranty.

Just recently observed that the right-click button on my touchpad is not working. This just happened today. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR280E laptop and am using Vista. I've checked the device manger, drivers are up to date, no yellow exclamation marks.

Here is what I've tried:

- reinstalled Original Alps Driver and restarted
- reinstalled Original Alps Driver a second time using Windows Back up and Recover
- made sure the mouse settings in Control Panel were correct

I think it could possibly be a hardware issue as pressing the right click key is not responding or opening any options, however, I haven't spilled anything on it or dropped it. My last option is to ship it off to Sony but my warranty expired a few months ago, and I looked at the price list and it is crazy expensive.

Please help! :confused

Answer:Right click button on touchpad not working??

Get canned air and put the laptop partially opened on its side with the right side toward the desktop. Use the canned air to clean out the "clicker" Something may have gotten wedged under the right side.
Your other option, and one I'd tend to not consider doing myself, is find a schematic and take the laptop apart.

For me, I just attach a portable notebook mouse and use it. Mine is 3 1/4" in length and the USB receiver fits inside the mouse so it isn't a hardship to throw that in the case with my netbook.

Hello all

I have a Compaq laptop model nc6230 with both a touch pad and a nipple mouse. I have a left andright click buttons under both input devices. However, about 10 minutes after every boot up, both left click buttons stop working. the right buttons and the navigation work, however, it wont left click or click when I "tap" the touchpad.

When I attach a usb mouse, the mouse actually works, however, the left buttons on the laptop wont work.

advice?

ps the buttons will start working again after reboot, but will stop after another ten minutes or so

Just got a new Probook 4540s and cannot get the on/off function of the touchpad to work.  There is a small dot in the upper left corner of tochpad.  User guide says to double tap it to turn on and off touchpad.  Doesn't work.  I then went to driver download and got the latest synaptics drivers.  Still doesn't work.  What am I doing wrong?

FIgured it out.  I had disabled the "touch to click" function.  After I enabled it the touchpad on/off button worked as it should.

I have an old IBM Thinkpad T42, worked great for ages. Last week the left mouse button below the touchpad stopped working. The right button still works, the touchpad still works, the nub and mouse buttons above the touchpad work, but the left buttong below the touchpad doesn't register.I took the laptop apart, removed the palmrest assembly, cleaned it up, took a look at the button and contacts, everything looked perfect.I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, no diceI removed it from device manage and let windows redetect it, still not working.I tried system Restore for a day when it was working, still not working.I checked the connections and they are all good, I did an sfc /scannow to make sure there were no corrupted system files, ran spybot and malwarebytes, all turned up nothing. So I went on eBay and plopped down $13 on a replacement palmrest. I swapped out the hardware, and it STILL doesn't work.At this point I am thinking it is some other hardware failure. I downloaded a VB program that detects any mouse click through API call, and the lower left mouse button does not trigger the API call at all, even though I replaced the hardware. The only reason I think it may be a software/OS issues is several months ago the laptop spontaneously developed this strange issue where it acted like the left click was always depressed, so the mouse was always in a "text select" mode, no matter how many times I rebooted the OS always thought a left click was being held down, even though ... Answer:Left mouse button under touchpad not working

I would boot Linux from a CD/DVD (perhaps Mint or Ubuntu) and see if the buttons work. If it doesn't and you have already replaced the complete palm rest with a good one, either the jack it plugs into on the motherboard has an issue or some part of the circuit on the motherboard that supports that circuit might be at fault. I just purchased a used replacement T41 motherboard on eBay for less than $25. Plenty more out there if you are handy with a screwdriver and download the HMM PDF file.

Just this morning, I noticed that the on/off button of my Satellite's touchpad doesn't work, although the Fn+F9 key combo does work in activating and deactivating my touchpad.

It was working well last night until I slept, when I woke up, my laptop has restarted due to Windows updates during the night. I didn't take notice of anything since I was using a wireless mouse. Then upon reaching work and checking if I can activate my touchpad (Windows has loaded and logged on), the on-screen display that tells if the touchpad is active or not is not showing up and my touchpad on/off button won't work.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Re: Satellite L655 - Touchpad On/Off button isn't working

Is this only problem you have?
I mean this is not so important and I would not reinstall or change anything because of this.
Until you can use FN+F9 key combination I don?t think it is some serious problem.

What do you think about that?

I turned on my 6 months old Acer Aspire One as usual and realised that something was wrong with my mouse. The left button simply doesn't work. Neither does tapping the touchpad. Nothing happens no matter how many times I push or tap. I can move the cursor around just fine and the right mousebutton still works. I can also plug in a USB mouse and use that instead.
I have checked the mouse properties. Under the tab "Hardware" the mouse is listed "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad", and the unit status says it works correctly. I also checked the preferences, and both tapping and buttons are activated and set to normal.
I have tried restarting, removing the battery and Fn-F7 without any luck.
I have also tried switching preferences to left-handed - that gave a funny result: Both the right button and tapping the touchpad functioned like a right-click except now they could also for instance close a window and open the start-menu. The left-button still didn't have any function what so ever.
Hope someone can help me.

I am running Windows 10 (Creators Update) and have been doing so for quite a while on a laptop. Recently, whilst playing a game, I was clicking the touchpads left hand button (mouse1) rapidly until suddenly it stopped working completely.

In addition, tapping to activate mouse 1 is also not working with the touchpad. Right clicking is still working and mouses are also working properly.

When I looked to see what the touchpad was doing (and if any of the buttons were activated) I noticed that it says the left side button is always being clicked and held (even though I'm not pressing nor holding it)?

Is there some way of fixing this or has the hardware completely broke?

My problems are very similar to those in this thread, to which I didn't see any resolution. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/y580-touchpad-not-working/m-p/898175/highli...Anyway, I've had my Y580 for...about 12 hours now, and right out of the box the left mouse button isn't working. About 10% of the time, if you press really hard, it will work, but that's not exactly working condition.  I'm guessing this means the palmrest itself needs to be repalced, so I'm wondering how I can go about getting warranty service WITHOUT calling the phone number. Right now I have larangytis and can't talk on the phone. Moreover, there must be some other options already for the deaf/hard at hearing.Anyway, could someone please help me out with this? Also, if possible, I think this kind of information really needs to be put on the support page itself. Again, there are people who will *never* be able to call you guys on the phone. That's a problem that needs to be accomidated!

Answer:Y580 Touchpad / left mouse button not working

Well, this hasn't gotten me anywhere, so I had a friend talk to the warranty department for me on speakerphone. Lenovo is taking care of everything now, but seriously...you NEED an option for people who for some reason can't talk, or are deaf/hard at hearing. I even asked at the end of the call if there was such an option, and the rep said there wasn't. Lenovo already has 24/hr sales reps available via chat...why not have that same technology for the warranty department? Definitley unfair to someone who is permanently hearing impared or such.

Forgive me if this is in the wrong area.
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It kept prompting me to upgrade to Windows 10, so I did so.
Now the button that disables my touchpad (also the F5 button) is not working.
The touchpad will not turn off.

Secondly, when I try to move the cursor, the "right click" menu pops up wherever the cursor lands, and it will not let me type. I have to use an external mouse to click out of the menu, then put the cursor back where I wanted it to land.

How can I make the disable button on my keyboard work again, and how can I fix the mouse so that the right click menu only comes up if I actually right click?

Thank you!

I recently bought a Lenovo G505s about a month ago. Everything is fine with it until i downloaded Steam and downloaded some games. 3 of the games i downloaded are shooters and therefore require the left mouse button. But when i click it to shoot, it doesn't respond sometimes and is very laggy. This is not the fault of the game as i tried it in different ones but the problem is still there. i tried to switch round the buttons (so that the right button is to shoot and the left to aim) and it works fine. I would prefer to have it the usual way around so does anyone have a way to fix this? did this happen to you? If it is needed here are some specs for the pc:AMD A8 6gb ramWIndows 8.1 A quick reply would be appreciated. So about a week ago my laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-498E) decided to through a new one my way - the left touchpad button just ups and stops registering clicks! Being fairly handy around a screwdriver, I disassembled the entire thing down to the touchpad. Physically the touchpad and ribbon look perfect, as do the buttons themselves. All plastic is strong and no sign of aging. So I ruled that out pretty quick.

So I tested the actual physical buttons on the motherboard itself. When I press the small black right circular button, it triggers right-clicking. But the black left circular button, when pressed, doesn't trigger anything to happen. The strength of the press doesn't matter, it just refuses to register that a "click" has occured.

Has anyone heard of anything happening like this? Is it the physical button on the motherboard that's died? Or is it another part of the motherboard? I don't have the money right now to go out and buy a new laptop so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me.

I can solder moderately so if it's something I can take off and replace that'd be great but I don't know how to test to see what's went bad on the motherboard or in the button.

Thanks for any help guys.

Hello,
I own the above laptop. It has two rows of buttons, one row below the touchpad and one above (or below the space key, don't know if this row really belongs to the touchpad). In the latter row, i.e. the one above the TP, the middle button is not giving any event.  The other row works as expected, all three buttons are working.

Any idea how to configure this correctly.

my touch pad has started to act strange.

the left hand mouse button stopped working completely and the right hand one only worked intermittently, and whenever i clicked on tabs, whether it was firefox, IE, Safari, or anything in the menu bar at the bottom such as a folder or anything it would close it (no im not clicking the red X)

Then suddenly after a while it would all start working again. This has happened twice now.
Completely rebooting the system does nothing it just starts suddenly and stops suddenly but the periods for which it occurs seems to be getting longer.

Also the little touchpad icon in the corner with the cross through it decided to turn its self on a few days ago and i found out the touchpad had disabled on its own and figured out how to re-activate it.

I know its not a virus as ive run lots of different anti viruses on my system, and wondering if its time to take the computer back into the shop and get a replacement as ive only had it 4 months

Its really annoying as im a photographer and rely on this laptop for phot o editing. can someone please help :)

Answer:Satellite P850-138 - left hand touchpad button stopped working completely

Hi

From my personal opinion you should not replace this notebook until you did not try some workarounds.
First of all you don?t know if its software related issue.
The point is that if its software issue, you could solve this easily recovering the notebook using the HDD recovery option.

Please try to set the notebook back to factory settings using HDD recovery.
Press F8 -> choose Repair my Computer -> HDD recovery

If the HDD recovery would not be available there, press F12 and check if there is a HDD recovery option.
After system recovery, check the functionality of the touchpad and other notebook features.

My operating system is windows 10 Pro.
After updating the bios my built in speaker and touch-pad three button not working. Can anyone give me suggestion that how to overcome this problem.

Answer:Latitude 6430u Build in speaker not working and touch-pad button not working right button and bottom two button

Hello. Try re-installing the IDT audio driver.
Win10 is not supported by Dell on the Latitude 6430u so install the IDT 1.0.6491.0 driver using compatibility mode.
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.  [There are two "formats" on the driver's page. Scroll down to the 2nd one, named "Hard Drive" format, and download that one, not the 1st one named "Windows Update Package".]2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates. 4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).6. Find the "setup.exe" file.7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.8. Select the Properties.9. Select the Compatibility tab.10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win7.
If the speakers still do not work, test them with the ePSA or the PSA audio test.
If the speakers pass the test and still do not work, try an earlier version of the BIOS. You can get links to all 11 versions of the BIOS here.  That page also has all the touchpad drivers.
If doing that does not work, perform a system recovery and return the laptop to the operating system that was ... Read more

OK, T60 Notebook and suddenly the TrackPoint and TouchPad stopped working.  I checked under the ThinkVantage tools and they are enabled.  I checked in the BIOS and the device(s) are enabled there as well.  I've had a TouchPad go bad before but the TrackPoint still worked.  Kinda strange both would go down at the same time.  So, in short: 1.  Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?2.  Does anyone have the part number for a replacement TouchPad (I've searched the site and could find dang near everything else, but the TouchPad) TIA!

Answer:TouchPad and TrackPoint

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I have a Lenovo T420s.  I bought it in May 2011 so it came with the Touchpad/Trackpoint driver version 15.2.14.0 (6hgx35ww.zip), which is the one also known for its massive memory leak. In any case, with that driver I am able to use the Trackpoint to navigate somewhere on the screen and immediately use the Touchpad if necessary. I do that a lot - I use the Trackpoint to quickly get somewhere on the screen, and then switch to the Touchpad for finer navigation (e.g. to look for something in Explorer, click on a link somewhere, etc). Every version since that verison has not worked the same.  I am now using 15.3.16.1 which doesn't have any memory leaks.  As soon as I touch the Trackpoint, the Touchpad becomes unresponsive to touch for about 1.5 seconds.  Try it.  Put your left pointer finger on the Trackpoint and move the mouse around.  Right as you lift your finger, use your right pointer finger on the Touchpad and see if it responds. It doesn't - you have to lift your finger and put it down again for it to register your touch.  Previously it would register your finger touch on the Touchpad right away. I'm almost tempted to switch back and deal with the memory leaks!  It makes such a difference with speed of navigation. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Heads up to potential buyers.  The X300 trackpoint and touchpad are not fully functional when used with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, MS Access, Remote Desktop, and other mainstream applications.  This is true for both XP and Windows OS.  The built-in pointing devices operate like a mouse without a wheel - you can point and click, but you cannot scroll.  This has been a known problem since June of 2008, and has been brought to the attention of this forum numerous times without resulting in any known action by Lenovo.WFaz

Hello all,I just got my Thinkpad T420 two weeks ago. Solid laptop overall, but recently I have some problems with my touchpad and trackpoint. There is a big movemental gap of the cursor when using trackpoint, and the touchpad is unusable. This happened once last week but then it disappeared after I disabled and then re-enabled trackpoint/touchpad, changing sensivity... Yesterday it happened again and this time it wont disappear after applying the same method. I tried updating the drivers, as well as reset BIOS (boot to BIOS -> F9 -> save) but none helped. I'm dualbooting windows 7 & arch linux, and the problem is present on both of the operating systems. This is really frustrating. Can someone please give me some suggestions what I could do to get rid of this annoying bug. Thanks very much.

I reformated, installed the drivers for both, and now if I am using the trackpoint and try to move the touchpad at the same time, there is about a 2 second delay before I get any movement from the touchpad. Any ideas? It is a really big annoyance because even if I am using the track point and stop moving it, and then immediately try and move the touchpad there is still a second where no movement happens, and I have to lift my finger and put it back down on the touchpad before the cursor moves. Thanks,-Ben

Answer:Using Touchpad and Trackpoint simultaneously.

I use the trackpoint and usually have both pad and trackpoint turned on.  Normally, i would have my palm resting on the pad while using the trackpoint.  If the pad reacted to my touch while i'm using the trackpoint, it would be quite annoying because the mouse would move unintentionally.  having approx 1-2 sec delay fixes the problem of unintentional movement.   So I thought it was supposed to work that way...

Recently I've been having an issue with both my trackpoint and touchpad. sometimes one works and other times the other works. from time to time they both work. it seems to switch when i pull up a new website or open a program. if one works before i open the program then the other will work after i open it. the buttons are the same way as well.. if one set works then the other doesn't but they don't correspond to which pointing device is working.. its kind of random.

Answer:Trackpoint & Touchpad problem

I have just starting having the same problems as well.  It's driving me nuts.  I thought my laptop was crapping out.  Anyone have any ideas what's going on?  I also had the trackpoint touchpad go south on a HP N6400, though in all cases, the Synaptic driver thinks everything is hunkydorey.  I've updated drivers, tried everything.   Whole reason I have a Lenovo is for the trackpoint and if it's going to stop working, then will start looking at a new laptop.

I bought a new T61 Thinkpad recently. From the begining I have been having problems with the trackpoint and touchpad mouse. At a time only one works and it is mostly the touchpad. I checked the BIOS setting and it is at automatic for both touchpad and trackpoint. Sometimes even the touchpad does not work. I have to restart the laptop couple of times for something to work. I have tried disabling touchpad in BIOS and end up not having the trackpoint also not work.In the thinkvantage productivity center it says that ultranav is not installed and I downloaded the ultranav update from lenovo website and installed it. Still the trackpoint does not work.I love the trackpoint and I hope some one can help me figure out what is happening.thanks

Answer:T61 trackpoint and touchpad mouse

Same problem..also wish the T61 came with SOME directions for simple functions.  Hope someone replies. Also have trouble getting fonts on certain websites to be of a more readable size.

Hello, I've bought new ThinkPad t540p recently. I've never used Trackpoint before and found it is very useful. But one thing breaks my happiness about Trackpoint. It's terrible clicking on touchpad. As I know it's common problem. But when I deleted Ultranav drivers and my Windows started using default drivers, I've realized that Trackpoint cursor pointing + Touchpad tap-to-click performance are best of breed. Unfortunately, I've lost scrolling and gestures. Is it possible to configure the same behaviour (Trackpoint cursor pointing + Touchpad tap-to-click) on Ultranav drivers or not? Thank you.

I don't know if I'm just being overly critical now or what, but I've started noticing more and more that my left TrackPoint button is loose - much looser than the right one.  I can feel it sort of rubbing against something when I press it (because it can move around) and it's just annoying.  The right button doesn't have that problem, but obviously I use the left one a lot more. Is this possible to fix myself if I open up the casing?  Has anyone else experienced this?

Answer:Loose TrackPoint button?

Bad keyboard perhaps? If I were you I'd ask lenovo for a keyboard replacement.

Does anybody know of any third party programs to allow you to custom configure the Trackpoint right button?  I would love to change it from a right click to a "Browser Back" button to allow for easy web surfing.  Wouldn't it be awesome if you could hit that without moving your hands off the keyboard to go back one page in your web browser?

I just got my new X1, but found immediately that the buttons associated with trackpoint doesn't work. Actually only the left and middle buttons don't work, the right button works, so I guess it's not likely to be a software problem. Anyone has similar problem as this?

Answer:X1 trackpoint button problem

nope, you should have warranty still, just call up support and they should be able to help you, i.e. either to send you a keyboard for self replacement or send you off to the depot.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L4550-S5976 running under Windows 7. When I start it up (and if I catch it at the right time), the touchpad buttons work fine for a few minutes. After the machine completely boots, the touchpad button problems start - the left button performs as the right button and the right button does nothing.

On a lark, I plugged in a USB mouse and rebooted. When I do that, the mouse works fine AND the touchpad buttons work properly. Carrying around a mouse isn't always convenient so I'd like to have the machine work as expected.

I tried updating the touchpad drivers - that did not fix the problem. I even reinstalled Windows 7 on the machine - that did not fix the problem either.

Any ideas what I could do next to fix this problem?

Thanks, Brian

Sometimes, more often then helix is unplugged from power abapter, touhpad and trackpoint just stops warking at all. Keyboard working fine. Sometimes after about 30sseconds of tapping, mouse cursor moves a little, or touchpad "returns to live", but for about 3-5seconds, and then "dies" again. All drivers are updated from Lenovo site with their latest versions.OS doesnt matter, happends on windows 7 and windows 8 both.

Answer:Helix touchpad/trackpoint problems

Hi, mr_Jack

I would recommend uninstalling the current driver and see if it is the driver that is causing the issue. This can be accomplished by navigating to Control Panel ? Device Manager. While in Device Manager, open the tree labelled Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device and select Properties. Next, navigate to the Driver tab and click on Uninstall... at the bottom. This will uninstall the driver, which will allow Windows to install a generic driver. If the generic driver functions without issue, then I would recommend either trying to reinstall the UltraNav driver or giving the Synaptics base driver installed, which can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Have T520, Windows 7 64bit.Latest versions of Ultranav drivers and utility. Both TrackPoint and TouchPad are enabled in BIOS, however, TrackPoint is always disabled, and it shows as such in the Ultranav utility. If I disable TouchPad in BIOS and only enable TrackPoint in BIOS, then TrackPoint works fine, and only that shows enabled. If I disable TrackPoint in BIOS and only enable TouchPad in BIOS, then TouchPad works fine, and only that shows enabled. If I enable both in BIOS, then only TouchPad works, and only that shows enabled in Ultranav utilities, with the checkmark to enable TrackPoint grayed out. Doing Fn+F8 shows all three combinations of options, however, selecting both TouchPad and TrackPoint here does not do anything, and option always remains with Enable TouchPad only.Is there a way to use both TrackPoint and TouchPad? Why is TrackPoint always disabled if both are enabled in the BIOS? Other Thinkpads I've used never had this issue... Thanks.

Answer:T520 cannot enable both TrackPoint and TouchPad

Sorry for the bump... but this forum is popular and post gets buried pretty quickly... Has anyone experienced this before and have any ideas? BIOS and all drivers are up to date... Thanks.

Hi, I recently disassembled my Thinkpad W520 to clean out the fan and check a few things on the motherboard and when I put it back together both the trackpoint and touchpads have stopped working.  The trackpoint is attached to the motherboard at the same connector as the keyboard which works fine and I was very careful with static, dust, etc when I dissambled everything so I don't really see how anything could have gotten damaged.  First time I turned it back on the trackpoint worked fine but I had forgotten to plug the CMOS battery back in and when I went back and did that it stopped working.  Not sure about the touchpad, I dont use it much so didn't check it at first.  So far my attempts to uninstall/reinstall the drivers haven't helped.  The touchpad's no longer recognised in device manager but the mouse and keyboard are (and nothing's turned off in the BIOS either).  Is this just a sign of a bad motherboard or am I missing something easier to fix here?  Up until this point everything worked fine other than some USB issues which were do to a physical connetion problem.  It seems strange that the keyboard is ok but the mice dont work. Anyone have any  advice or suggestions?

Answer:trackpoint and touchpad problems - W520

Hello S_Zahara, Motherboards are the most sensitive and delicate part of the computer. It may be possible that when you removed the CMOS Battery, that may have changed some settings in the bios. Make sure the trackpad is enabled in your bios settings. Also, to make sure the CMOS battery is getting a full charge, leave your computer on for 24 hours. If the problem still persists, I would reseat the track pad to the motherboard. Hope that helps.

since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Answer:scrolling problem with touchpad/trackpoint

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

I am having problems with Trackpoint and the TouchPad.  I had to disable Trackpoint because it was constantly clicking and opening anything it was pointed at.  The TouchPad pointer will not click and open anything, though, oddly enough, it will work if the computer is placed in standby mode for a lengthy period of time. I have reinstalled the original OS and other software several times now, including reinstalling the latest ultra nav driver and have all the other latest updates (BIOS 1.45).   I find it unlikely that this is a Hardware problem, but I have not been able to fix it with the software reinstalls.   Could it be the SSD? Is anyone familiar with these type of anomalies?   Any ideas for a fix? W510 4318CTOQ820 @1.73Ghzwin7 64bitfactory installed128gb SSD12gb ram

So the X240 finally has something I've wanted in my X220 since the start, a higher resolution screen...

But what's got me thinking is that new touchpad, more importantly the buttons for the trackpoint are not physical buttons!

I don't use the buttonless clickpad of my X220, its been disabled since day one, I use the trackpoint and its buttons exclusively... Now I'm worried how these "buttons" will work and respond in the X240... When I'm surfing the net I usually have my thumb on the left click button, and press it when i need to... I can't see that working well on this new setup!

Has Lenovo used this touchpad style on any other thinkpad yet?

Answer:X240 touchpad/trackpoint thoughts.

This same type of clickpad is used on T431s, which has been shipping for several months now.

i really want to quenstion myself why i chose thinkpad instead of an acer kind of notepad which is of just half price. my copy of x201i, has a very serious problem with the touchpad and trackpoint, but unfortunately on the irregular basis. intermittently, the touchpad can become very laggy, even when the computer is totally idle. the summary of the symptom is as follows: - touchpad is laggy, trackpoint is only a little bit less smooth compared to regular state (but still consider usable)- touchpad is deadly laggy, trackpoint becomes notably laggy too- after a while (on average less than 5 minutes), the problem automatically disappear- external mouse and keyboard function regularly all the time- cannot conclude in what situation the problem will occur and disappear, hence cannot replicate in a controlled way  and, i have tried the followings, none of it helps get rid of the problem - re-installed most of the drivers using System Update- uninstalled most of the drivers- reset the system back to factory state (win 7), without any additional software/driver/updates installed- re-setup the system using XP, the problem even occurred when i am still in the XP installation screen (the blue one).  i hesitate to go to the service centre because i know i am going to get nothing useful there, especially when i have difficulty in replicating the problem easily. so just try my luck here and hope someone can help me.

Thinkpad Yoga user here.  I'm having a problem when I wake my computer up from sleep (or sometimes on re-boot) the trackpoint and touchpad do not work.  The touch screen is still fine and if I plug in a USB mouse the cursor shows up then. This has been happening intermittently over the past 2 months or so, it is becomming more frequent. It usually requires a hard reboot (where I hold the power button until the machine turns off) before the trackpoint and touchpad come back.  Recently even this hasn't worked every time.  It has come to the point where, if I put my computer into sleep, there's probably a 75% chance the pointers won't work when I wake it up and that it will require multiple re-boots to get them back. I don't know if this is an issue with the synaptic drivers (I've updated them, reverted to older versions, uninstalled and reinstalled but the problem continues). Or maybe it is a hardware problem, I'm not sure. If anyone (preferably lenovo) has any suggestions on how to fix this, I wold be very appreciative. Thanks!

Hello. I have brand new E431 with Windows 7 and I already encountered some trouble. Is there a way how to disable both touchpad and trackpoint? UltraNav driver does not allow to turn them off both and there is not any hotkey feature like Fn+F8 to control a touchpad on my notebook, or at least I did not find any yet.As you see, if aj disable touchpad, then I cannot manage trackpoint options and vice versa. However, disabled touchpad still reacts on press, so it can still cause errors when I type. Could you help me please? Or even better, is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut to such option?

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I doubt such a feature where you can disable both trackpoint and touchpad is not available. Try disabling touchpad in BIOS and see if it helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I just upgraded my X301 to windows 7 and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the touch-pad. So, when I comfortably use my keyboard and trackpoint, I am constantly selecting things. The XP control panel interface had both separate sensitivity controls and the ability to turn the touchpad completely off. This doesn't exist in the Win7 ctrl panel and I can only find one driver suite for windows 7 on Lenovo's site. Any ideas?

I have a new T440s which came with Windows 8, and I upgraded to 8.1Nothing strange installed in it. Sometimes touchpad and/or trackpoint don't work at all after turning on, rebooting or recovering from a suspended state. It never fails while the system is running. When it happens, I reboot and it works fine. Already upgraded everything using System Update (BIOS, etc) and Windows Update. Sounds to me as a driver issue, not a hardware issue... but I am not 100% sure. What should I do? Should I reinstall any driver? How?

Uninstall the UltraNav driver from Device Manager or Programs and Features. Then run System Update; it should offer the UltraNav driver again.Alternatively, here's the manual download:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds034647

Hi everyone, I got my T440s in Dec 2013.  The touchpad and trackpoint worked then, but after a couple months the touchpad would work for a few minutes and then just stop responding.  After a while longer the trackpoint completely stopped working as well.  Now neither of them have worked for months - I've been using an external mouse.   I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but that didn't help.  When I open Device Manager and click "Show hidden devices", the ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device shows up with a yellow triangle "!" icon.  Does anybody know how to fix this? Thank you!

Answer:T440s Touchpad & Trackpoint don't work

Hi Snowmc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with touchpad on ThinkPad T440s.

To proceed with troubleshooting steps please boot the system to safe mode and uninstall the UltrNav driver from control panel ? program & feature option and also from device manager.

Shutdown the system and remove the external mouse and then switch ON the system, after booting with normal mode it will install generic drivers. Please check if the generic driver is also giving the issue with touchpad.

If the issue still persists after performing above troubleshooting then please provide the MTM number of the system at the next reply.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

My touchpad and trackpoint stopped working at the same time suddenly a few days ago. I tried re-installing the drivers but nothing happened. I looked up this forum and tried resetting BIOS to defaults. After doing this the trackpoint has started working but the touchpad still does not work. When I open the mouse properties in the control panel I get a message saying "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device driver. If you have installed another PS/2 device please Uninstall the Synaptics driver. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. Do you want to Uninstall the Synaptics driver now?"Is there something I can do to get the touchpad working?

So after reinstalling the driver, my T440s Trackpoint is working as advertised, but while it was acting all wonky...something happened. The driver malfunctioned in a good way so that I could tap the touchpad with my thumb to invoke a left-click while using the TrackPoint. Normall, the driver locks out the touchpad completely while the TrackPoint is in use, so that the touchpad only functions as buttons. But the vertical travel of the touchpad is deep and it takes extra effort to depress completely each time. What's worse, the touchpad remains locked out after I move the cursor with the TrackPoint and then stop to leave it over an icon, so that I actually have to move the cursor with the touchpad before it will accept a tap as a left- or right-click. Is there any way to force the driver to let me use taps instead of clicks to inoke left and right click while using the TrackPoint? Also, is there any way to defeat the touchpad lockout? In my opinion, the touchpad itself is excellent as far as Windows touchpads go. They've gotton double-tap for right-click perfectly, and two-finger scrolling is actually quite nice. But they've also overlooked an opportunity to make TrackPoint use even easier and more user-friendly than it was with physical buttons.
