Preferred Solution: X201 Tablet Thinkpad , screen rotates 90 degree to right after each restart!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Ruud

I have tried it once with external monitor and it works but don?t ask me how. I don?t remember any more. Try all screen orientation options.

Try also to rotate the screen before you change the display output mode.

I'd like to upgrade the display on my x201 laptop. The outdated TFT display is getting a bit old. And I could use some expert advice - or even intelligent guesses as to whether certain LCD panels will work in the x201 laptop. The usual advice to upgrade a x201 laptop display is to go with a Hydis AFFS (similar to IPS) display e.g. the HV121WX4-120. Or alternately a Samsung PVA display e.g. the LTN121AP02-001. These are CFFL panels, so given my LED laptop, I'd also need an inverter (42W8009 or 42W8010) and CFFL variant cable e.g. 44C9909.  Okay great. But for various reasons I'd very much prefer to retain the WLED backlight, rather than change to a CFFL display. There are any number of forum posts saying that this isn't possible. But that appears to be refuted by some well documented threads that describe successful retrofits of better spec LED backlit panels in their x201 laptops e.g. using a Samsung LTN121AT07-L02 (27R2451) WLED LCD. With that thought in mind, I'm trying to discern whether a x201 tablet screen will work in my x201 laptop? e.g. a Samsung LTN121AP0310 or Toshiba LTD121KX6B-110 LCD. These are multitouch LCDs. I'm not counting on the multitouch to be operational. Just whether the LCD screen will work in a conventional manner in the laptop. Has anyone heard of these panels being retrofitted into a x201 laptop? Or spot any obvious impediments to using them in the laptop?    --Stock (original) x201 laptop LCD: Au Optroni... Read more

Have you performed the transplant before? If so, whats the secret to getting the LCD bezel back on properly? Lenovo's contracted on site "technician" botched it twice for me. Any pointers I can relay to them when they try again? Am tired of incompetent novices working on my hardware.

Hi all, I can see the drivers and some of the software support for Win7 64bit but after looking through some of the FAQ and online manuals I can not find a guide that details out in what order the drivers and other support software are to be reinstalled. Does one just install ThinkVantage and let it take over? Background:  This is a ThinkPad that was upgraded from 2 GB and maxed out to 8 GB and the user already tried to reinstall Windows and removed the diagnostic partition.  They managed to get everything working except that the touch screen would only work with the stylus and not finger touch.   So the assumption at this point is that a driver was installed in the wrong order or the wrong driver was installed. Best,A

Hi all, Wow,  for a premium brand Lenovo's forums are next to useless.Does no one form Lenovo actually look around in here? I have been doing more research and it seems Lenovo has no procedure for replacing the OS except to make the us pay $50 USD more for a recovery disc.  If this is not the case please enlighten me as to where I can get this or provide a recipe for installing drivers without using the recovery disc.  If that is reallythe case then eMachines seems to provide better support than Lenovo. As it stands right now tomorrow I am going to contact my rep. at CDW-G to exchange this Lenovo x201 tablet for credit.Nowhere does it say that I have to buy additional software to use a system RAM upgrade. This is really a shame but I promise that if I have to do this I will never buy or recommend a Lenovo product to my customers again.

Hi, I just discovered that many color displaying problems in software like "photoshop" or most simply "windows live viewer"  was due to the "Lenovo thinkpad LCD Monitor" profile named "TPLCD.icm"In the color management panel of the configuration panel I had to add "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" profile and define it as default to obtain normal color in those software. If anyone knows witch profile to use for my Thinkpad X201 tablet it would be nice, because I can imagine that the sRGB profile is not the most efficient one for the X201 monitor. Thank you for your help(excuse my bad english)

Hello, I am new to lenovo / windows, I used to have a Macintosh laptop and I just got the lenovo thinkpad x201 tablet laptop today through my school. I saw that it advertised both pen input and 'finger touch' input for the touchscreen, but when I try to touch the screen to select something in tablet or normal laptop mode, it does not recognize the touch no matter what I do. Also, I know there should be a "simple touch" menu brought up by double tapping 2 fingers on the screen, but that also does nothing. Does my laptop have the ability to use fingers to select things, or is it just able to use a pen? Sorry if this question is obvious, I'm new to windows / lenovo! Thanks a lot!

Answer:thinkpad x201 tablet touch input (simple tap) ??

not all of the x201 tablets support the 'finger touch' some only support pen input. Does it allow you to touch the screen at all? I do not fully understand your post.

Hi. I am using a ThinkPad X201 Tablet.    When I first bought the laptop, I had a lot of trouble with the pen tablet driver. The driver didn't work well on my main drawing tool, the Paint Tool Sai. I ended up making a flawsome-yet better then Lenovo official, "Frankenstein" driver out of multiple other drivers of various manufacturers and versions.    I was very pleased when I recently re-installed the Windows on the laptop and found that Lenovo had updated the driver. However, even though the new driver fixed most of my older problems, such as calibration not working on certain applications(back then when I was tweaking hundreds of files to make the drivers work, I had to make a decision, between making calibration work in those applications and make the driver virtually unusable in all other situations, or sacrifice the calibration and make the driver work), it didn't take long for me to find that there was another problem that wasn't there before...not critical in many situations, but still, annoying.    Everything's OK when I'm using the laptop only, but when I plug the laptop onto the Ultrabase and use the DP port to use the second monitor(in extend mode), the problem happens. I'm not sure what's the reason, but it looks as of the DPI or the refresh rate has dramatically decreased.    The strange thing is that the pen still works just fine in s... Read more

I have just upgraded and activated my ThinkPad X201 Tablet PC (i7 L640 @2.13 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM) to Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) from the original Windows 7 Pro (64-bit). The tablet appears to run fine in Windows 10 Pro. However, the Task Manager's Performance tab page shows the CPU run at the frequency between 1.17 and 1.20 GHz, even as the tablet takes several tasks and runs at 60% and above and the tablet's power mode is set to high-performance.

What went wrong? What are the things that I need to check? Please advise.

I have an X201 Tablet (3113-W4M) that came preloaded with Windows XP SP3.  I blew away the XP image and reloaded with Windows 7 Enterprise and obtained all Windows 7 drivers from the Lenovo website. The issue is that after the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernate *and* I plug in a USB mouse or USB mouse/keyboard combo, I am unable to lock, shutdown, restart, or hibernate the system.  Additionally, anything that invokes UAC fails to display.  If I look at Processes under Task Manager, I see where consent.exe is running (called when a UAC approval prompt should be displayed).  Sometimes it is running multiple times corresponding to multiple events that should have displayed the prompt (e.g. running RegEdit).  Turning off UAC is a workaround to this issue but does not address the root cause and does not address the lock/shutdown/etc. issue. After extensive troubleshooting that included 2 full OS reloads, process monitoring, and deep log reviews, I have narrowed my issue to the following steps: 1) Boot tablet with no USB mouse and/or keyboard attached2) Attach USB mouse and/or keyboard>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both function as expected.3) Hibernate tablet (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)4) Resume from hibernate (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both fail I discovered this as I move my system from work (Logitech S510 keyboard/mouse c... I have a ThinkPad X201 Tablet running Windows 7 64-bit. Model 0831CTO. The solid state hard drive is almost always at 90% usage. It shows 136.16 GB as its size (odd size, I know, but that is what is shows. I want to upgrade to a larger HD, perhaps 500 GB SSD. I also want to up grade because I've been getting blue screen of death lately. So something is failing. i have not been able to find out a couple things that I need to know to do this: 1. Do I only need a 2.5" SDD. I recall my old ThinkPad tablet used a 1.8 hard drive which made it nearly impossible to upgrade. 2. What is the process in upgrading and changing this out so I ensure I get all my programs and all the original ThinkPad software put onto the new drive. Thank you for your help.Bill

Answer:How to replace hard drive in ThinkPad X201 Tablet running Windows 7 64-bit

Hi, btownsend

I found the Personal Systems Reference for your machine, which you can also see here (X201T section begins on page CML3-7). According to this, the standard SATA port for disk drives in the X201T takes a 2.5 inch drive, so any drive compatible with SATA 3.0 that is 2.5 inches x 9 mm should work fine.

As for moving things to the new drive, I would either use backup discs or a backup USB drive to save everything and then use that media to refresh everything once the new drive is installed.

Hope it helps,Adam

Hi,My X201 was working perfect untill my screen went black. I searched the web and found out that the Led backlight fuse is broken. I tried to bridge the fuse instead of replacing it, just soldered the connections. It worked perfectly and everything was normal again. After a while I noticed that no matter what I do, the laptop cannot restart. I shuts down completely normal but cannot restart. I thought it might be a windows problem but it was not. I replaced the hdd, installed new windows but no success. I was fed up but it was not a big deal since I could press the power button for 5 seconds and it would shut down. No the most convenient way but I had no other solution. A few days ago, I inserted another hdd in order to retrieve some files off the disk. The laptop could not boot, no matter what. It turn on, all the lights turn on but immediately shuts down. I do not even get to see the boot screen. Nothing at all. I tried with another hdd, same problem. I changed the Ram, no success. So I took the hdd out and tried to boot without any hdd. To my surprise it booted. I got the boot screen and I checked the Bios, everything normal. Then I inserted the hdd while the system was still on, it turned off immediately. It?s the same no matter what I do. As long as any hdd is installed, the notebook won?t boot. I tries to boot, I get no boot screen, just the indicator lights and then it restarts. With the hdd Not installed, I could manage to boot from a USB stick, it worked perf... Read more

There were a few possibilities, but unfortunately unable to help much as we cannot see your screen, setup, programs etc. Suggestion, in order of what I think is possible reasons 1) If you have 2xRam, swap their locations and run ram diagnostic, faulty memory? 2) Plug out your network cable and turn off wifi and do the shutdown, sympton remains? 3) Check your firefox addson for anything that syncs, eg bookmark syncing, backup etc 4) Download ccleaner, clean the registry and empty all the trash etc 5) Download and use a free tool call ProcessTamer, this one works for XP, it sometimes helps regulate those CPU usuage, "idling process" or something 6) Uninstall your java, download the latest and reinstall it. There was an add on that fouls up IE that casue all the slowness, unsure if your installation of firefox has it.

The lower right corner of the tablet screen is too sensitive; the pen is "clicking" even if it is not making contact with the actual tablet screen. This makes the tablet pen effectively useless and appears to be hardware error. I was able to reproduce this issue with the factory installed images of Windows 7 and Windows XP, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue. Can I please have RMA instructions for a refund on this system? According to Microsoft on this site.... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/multitouch-hardware-reqs "....If you have touch input hardware that isn't specifically designed for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, but displays the "Designed for Windows" logo for Windows 7, you'll experience touch responsiveness at least as good as it was on Windows 7...." Based on that, I upgraded my Lenovo X201 Tablet with Windows 7 (kept up to date with Lenovo's System update, and windows update, and working well), and lost the touch screen and pen abilities completely. In system manager I have an unknown device, but no Wacom device in Human Interface Devices; and in control panel I don't have either "Pen and Touch", or "Tablet PC Settings". I tried installing the W7 drivers from the Lenovo site in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and it displayed the error "No supported tablet was found". Having failed the upgrade, I proceeded to do a clean install, and had exactly the same result. Must clarify the update was to Windows 8 Pro, then all windows and Lenovo updates, and the upgrading to 8.1 from the store, and all windows and Lenovo updates again. So I'm dumbfounded. If I lost the touch ability as advertised at least as good as it was on Windows 7...., I will go back to Windows 7. I posted this on the Microsoft site, and the Microsoft Engineer said that this happens when the hardware was not realy designed for Windows 7 ... I have not been able to use the touch screen functions for about a month now.  When you use your finger to select something on the screen it goes to the desktop and will not select the item you touched.  The only way the touch screen works is with the pen.  Also the screen will not rotate when you flip the screen into tablet mode.  I check for any new updates but the system is up to date.  This is driving me crazy as I need to have the touch screen working right for my business programs the are installed.

Is that correct? Then I thought, or the display itself or cables that connect to the main board?I opened but everything seems to be ok. Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry your having difficulty.
Please have a look at your hardware manual:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x200_x200s_x200si_x201_x201i_x201s_hmm_en...
Starting on manual page 236, you'll see the listing for the X201 WXGA LCD panels. I believe that the WXGA+ panels were limited to the X201s and I don't know if they're interchangeable into the X201.

You can use your machine's type-model number (MTM) to pinpoint which panel FRU P/N to search for a replacement.

Hope this helps.

hi Belkid,

Welcome to our forums,

Its very uncertain what exactly is casing your issue. However in the past there report some what similar to your case. You may want to consider updating these drivers and checkit one by one. Previously it was these issues that caused the machine to crash unexpectedly.

My X201T tablet mouse, stylus and multitouch functions worked well until about three weeks ago. Before this problem, when I changed orientation from landscape to portrait, the tablet and stylus adjusted to the changes just fine. Then some update happened either through System Update or through Windows Update or through me trying to keep current with the latest drivers. Now, this is my difficulty: When I change from landscape to portrait, the stylus gets confused, and the pointer is about 90 degrees and several inches off away from the stylus tip. When I go to calibrate the stylus functions, the calibration function does not work. When I go to calibrate the touch functions, it calibrates okay, but on the next reboot, I lose all use of the mouse as soon as the desktop loads. Neither the trackpoint nor the ultranav touch pad work and the mouse buttons don't work. I have mouse functions pre-deskop up until the user logon. The only recovery I have found is to do a "System Restore" to the most current restore point. Go figure. In Control Panel, I now have two separate applications to handle what used to be handled by one application: "Pen Tablet Properties" and "Touch Settings". The "Pen Tablet Properties" includes calibration of the stylus but the calibration doesn't work. The "Touch Settings" handles calibration of the finger touch, but after the calibration I lose mouse function. Here all all of the drivers I have loaded at this time which might relate.Lenovo System Interface dri... Answer:Thinkpad Lenovo X201 white screen

to confirm if it's the screen or not is to move screen forward and backwards to see if screen flickers or sort off switch from white to normal then back to white if it does that then it means the LCD cable is damaged and needs to be re-placed.

Hello. We've got an unusual problem when applying driverpackage for lenovo x201.OSD with SCCM 2007.. The Audio driver installs successfully during OSD (with silent install switch) and in devicemanager we can see that the conexant 20585 Smart Audio HD driver has been installed. Same with "Intel screen audio". But in the Audio options in controlpanel all the fields is grayed out. There is with other words no associated soundcard / standard device. If we install the driver again, logged in as an user the recently grayed out fields in Audio options automagically now shows the correct input / output devices (Conexant audio) and the sound starts working. Is there some issue when installing drivers in SYSTEM context?Notice: There is no "?" in device manager. BR!

I am using an external screen on my x201 to display a 10mm x 10mm grid pattern for a project. The 2nd screen that is connected by a vga lead has a quoted resolution of 1024x600 and i need to keep this resolution to keep the grid squares the correct size. However on windows 7 there is this option on the resolution slide. Its either 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768. Neither of these give me the dimentions i require on my square grid, it just stretches the squares or make the grid lines thicker. so is there a driver or a piece of software that i can download to give me my required resolution. I have brought in my home lenovo (y50 running windows 10 and that doesnt have the 1024x600 option either.....)  HELP!!

Read more

I'm new to the Tablet community but excited to venture into it.  My workplace provided me with an X201 Tablet type 2985 model C5U.  The pen works great but I can emulate any of the finger/touch demos.  Is this not supported with my type or model?  Or do I need a special driver.  When I open the tablet PC settings, I'm given the option to identify my screen as PEN or TOUCH.  While I select TOUCH, no finger combination (one or two) that presses my screen will invoke anything.  I was hoping this would be a touch solutoin albeit more powerful than the iPad.  Appreciate your responses everyone. Thank you. L

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

Dear community, I found my screen starts flickering not long after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my thinkpad x200 tablet. It happens especially when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop and when I maximize a Microsoft Edge brower on screen. Scrolling the mouse will trigger the lines on a page flickering back and forth or partially disappeared. This is really annoying when I want to scroll down a little bit to find some useful information. I have tried to use the "sfc /scannow" command to identify potential problems and to reinstall compatible Thinkpad graphics and video drivers, but no luck. I have also tried other solutions that I can find online (like disabling the issue reporting service), yet still this problem persists. I contacted Microsoft for their assistance, and they suggest me to ask the manufacture to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks,Qi

I want to know what to do? Call for lennovo? Cause I am a student, I need my tablet to do some work, I want to know how long and how much to repair it. thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet X220 the upper glass of screen cracked a little

Hi sweetaaronm and welcome to the community,

You're probably going to have to call service to find out how much and how long it will take?  I'd do that anyway, just so you know.  It is going to be expensive.
Is there any computer repair shops locally that you trust?  I'd sit down with the phone book and make some calls.  You're going to have to know which screen you have so you can have them get the right one.

If Lenovo service has the screen in stock, the turnaround for the repair should be pretty fast.

I recently did a fresh install of win 7 64-bit on my thinkpad x200 tabletpc, updated all the usual drivers and software from lenovo and windows update. Whenever I rotate my display into tablet mode, I always get the message 'USB Device Not Recognized' in the system tray, windows then trys to find and install device drivers for it but is unsuccessful every time. I have tried to find device drivers to fix this without any success. In device manager, I see the culprit highlighted under Universal Serial Bus Controllers with a yellow exclamation mark sign beside 'Unknown Device' with a location of Port_#001.Hub_#002. I have tried uninstalling and and reinstalling this, still no success. I have tried to disable it merely to stop the annoying prompt from the system tray yet it still comes back and warns me of the same problem. Has anybody else experienced this ? Does anybody have any suggestion for solving the problem ?I'm guessing it is related to the display driver, I will try installing/reinstalling another version of that to see if that fixes it. I'm starting to doubt the integrity of this tablet, I've begun to notice a lot more driver and USB conflicts lately..

There are times (and it's become frequent at this point) when my Lenovo will suddenly flip the screen 180 degrees, lock the keyboard, and then ask me whether or not I would like to switch to tablet mode. This occurs when using the trackpad and in regular desktop mode. Afterwards, I can only rotate the screen back by right clicking my <Display Options> and rotating it back to normal.  However this does not unlock the keyboard and even when Restarting the problem persists.  It goes away after several Shut Downs, yet I do not have a clue as to why.

My SAT P200-1EE on occasions, and seemingly randomly, goes into reverse video / inverse video.
The applications is in reverse video, but so is the desktop.

If I shutdown - restart then its back to normal. I've now noticed if I logout or switch user, its also normal.
To me this implies is some sort of user profile held setting that is being effected.

The problem can happen then the laptop has been used for hours, but other times only minutes.
The laptop is running Vista. I wondered if I was hitting a hotkey by accident to cause this, but I can't find a definition for such a key.
Does anybody know of such a key combination that I may be accidently hitting?

The laptop went back to Toshiba under guarantee, and they did a BIOS update.
However its happened again since on more than one occasion.

Before I send it backagain I'm told I need to use the recovery disk to rebuild the PC in case of a driver corruption.
That sounds like a sledge-hammer approach to me. IT works 99% of the time so I can't see this being a driver corruption.

Any advice on what I should do before trying this ?

Geoff

Hey all

I just downloaded Half-life 2 and it seems that everytime I load it up, it rotates the screen 90 degrees counter-clockwise. I've tried restarting, and even rotating my own screen 90 clockwise in order to compensate but it doesn't seem to work!

Is this a problem with my video card or maybe something in the game? I've never even heard of this happening before. :S

I'm running it on my laptop:
HP 6730b
2.26GHz Dual Core
2GB RAM
Intel 4 series chipset family video card

(I did notice that on start up the game warns me it has not heard of my video card. However the game seems to run alright, albeit its rotation)

THanks.

I have a less than one year old HP15 TS Notebook running Windows 10 -64 bit. I have had the same problem others have described - where my screen flips 90 (or more) degrees. I've figured out how to fix it, but the much bigger question is why is it doing it in the first place. This flipping will happen randomly while we are moving the pointer across the screen to move between websites for instance. Each time it happens there appears to be no identifiable reason. I haven't yet found anywhere to "lock" the screen rotation - it seems all I can do is fix the rotation each time it occurs. Thanks for any assistance.

Since updating to Insider Preview, I'm having an issue.
When I rotate my Surface, the display rotates properly. The problem is the touch interface doesn't seem to realize that the screen has rotated, so touching the screen in one place, registers touch in another place.
Anyone else having this issue, or had it and know how to fix it? I've googled and found it a few times, but no one ever seemed to have a fix. I even tried a clean install back to Fall Creators release, and the updated again, same issue.

Hello-

I have a Windows 8 tablet/ultrabook (Lenovo Yoga). I primarily use the desktop to operate and have many icons and shortcuts arranged to facilitate the use of my computer.

When I use my PC in tablet mode, sometimes I rotate the screen to read PDFs, certain webpages, etc. When I rotate the screen back to a horizontal mode, all my carefully placed icons and shortcuts are shuffled around the desktop. I realize that when I rotate the screen the icons move because they have to temporarily reorient themselves to portrait vs landscape, but shouldn't they return to their original position when I rotate the screen back to the horizontal mode?

Is there a way to lock icons in place with Windows 8?

Thanks.

I have an issue that is plaguing my ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I cannot afford to be without it for a week to send it into the depot and am not sure they will be able to replicate the issue even if I do. Two things are happening. Tablet is placed in the docking station. If I turn it on, it will lock up at the ThinkPad screen and never fully load Windows (Win 7 64-bit). If I take it out of the docking station, hard crash it, and then restart, it will start right up. I then wait for the Windows home screen and place back in the docking station. When I do this, TSM Resident immediately quits. This is recurrent.  The error message is: TSMResident has stopped working Problem signature:  Problem Event Name: APPCRASH  Application Name:         TSMResident.exe  Application Version:     6.32.0.0  Application Timestamp:              4f2235b0  Fault Module Name:    TSMResident.exe  Fault Module Version: 6.32.0.0  Fault Module Timestamp:          4f2235b0  Exception Code:             c0000005  Exception Offset:           0000471f  OS Version:      6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48  Locale ID:   &n... Hello,I got a X201 Tablet with the multitouch display a month ago, it's an awesome machine, but recently I noticed a very faint CPU whine noise coming from the upper left of the body, close to the fan. the noise level is comparable to the noise of the fan at mid speed, so it's not terrible, but my problem and maybe same as other people out there is as soon as you discoreved, your brain tunes to it and you can hear it above anything, or I'm going crazy. My question is if this is something normal? the system is under warranty from lenovo, should I send it in, but any chance I will get it back with the same noise. I guess I can live with it if it doesn't become louder, but I don't know really want to do.. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the x201 Tablet to Windows 10?

Answer:x201 Tablet - Windows 10

I have been testing this,  I have had the touch working in earlier builds but now the Live version installed on bare drive resulted in no bluetooth and no touch,   pen works, the touch was working in some of the very early build but I dont remember when it stopped,  I was just using the fast installs where it was updating the os from the prevous version not a complete reinstall.  On this last go round the device manager does not show anything that is installed that has a problem it just does not see the touch,  not sure if this might have something to do with it but it named the machine "Desktop......"  not knowing it was a laptop that might have touch>

Ok, i was unsure if the advice for the previous  thread on a related matter would work. I cant figure out how to get the latest OpenGL on my machine.I am running an intel graphics card, with the HD driver.

Answer:OpenGL and x201 Tablet

opengl should come with the Intel Video Driver.  If you want to see what opengl version you have:
ftp://ftp2.realtech-vr.com/realtechv/pub/glview332.exe

My X201 Tablet with Windows 7 and the latest Intel Video Drivers has OpenGL 2.1

I _just_ bought a new X201 tablet, and am very happy with it, except that the screen color is very yellowish or orangish. Green trees look brown, blue skies look grey. I tried both calibrating through Color Management in the Control Panel and endless adjustments in Intel's Control Center. It's as if there's just very little blue in the screen--a mechanical issue. Mind you, it's crisp and clear; it just makes everything look like a photo taken under incandescent light with a camera set for daylight..  Anyone else?

Answer:Color on X201 tablet

I've never seen that with a brand new machine, but it does tend to happen with IPS screens after a while - i.e. backlight wear.So the question is - do you see this color shift even in the BIOS screen? If so, you'll need to have it fixed under warranty.

Hi everyone, I ordered my x201tablet on March 13th. The website said 2 weeks delivery but I havent heard anything yet. The system says "released" but no news yet. I've checked other forums and it seems they're starting to arrive now  elsewhere in the world so just wondering if they've reached the UK yet? Regards, Paul

Hi there, I realise that the x201 tablet does not have a iee 1394 firewire port but, was wondering if there is anyway to add this to the ultrabase 200 as an option because this does not seem to offer this option either - surely this would not be a difficult thing to add even as a cardbus ... or perhaps it is. Cheers

I've been waiting for this for 2 month now (UK) and have serious doubts in Lenovo now. I want a tablet but I run pretty heavy stuff (business specific), and the only available configuration "from partners" is a joke.Is there chance to see the configurator available again or a configuration choice? Many thanks,G.

Hey everyone, I ran Factory Recovery Disks in the thinkvantage tools and made both the Boot Disk and the Data Discs. I used a CD-RW disc and the Boot Disc was copied onto 1 disc, and the Data Discs consist of 14 discs.  My thought was that if I turn on my computer, push the blue thinkvantage button and then boot from my CD drive (in my ultrabay) it would take me to a Rescue and Recovery menu where I can then reformat my harddrive, and reload the machine back to factory settings, however what happened when I booted from my CD drive, was that it just started back up as normal. I've been at this since last night, and there is very little resources, I have absolutely no idea how to reformat my laptop. Please help. Edit: When I booted from the CD drive, I was of course, using the Boot Disc that I had copied. I haven't done anything with the Data Discs as of yet.

set your machine's device boot order in bios. make sure that the optical drive is above the hdd. you will not need to press the blue ThinkVantage button during the boot sequence.

Hi,I would like to know if the signal from the vga connector is digital or analog because since I connected the x201 tablet directly to my monitor ( vga->vga [analog] ) the screen is flickering. So I guess that I should buy another cable to connect it to the dvi-d port of my monitor. but unfortunately there is no dvi port on this x201-tablet computer. Is there an advantage if I buy a vga->dvi-d cable ? Or will the screen still be flickering? Is the signal from the vga-port on the x201tablet a digital or analog signal? Thanks,Michael  Bildschirm - Philips 240SW (PnP-Monitor (Standard))                                                                                           Modus        1920 x 1200 (32-Bit) (59 Hz)                                                    ... Hi everyoneI have just gotten my x201 tablet, and have 2 questions.1. The screen has one dead pixel, is that common for x201t?2. I found neither the pen nor the touch screen is accurate. And because you can not see the cursor before you touch the screen, it's hard to catch a button or a menu item by touching. I need to try several times to get it even after calibration. Is it common for you?Thank you for your reply.

Answer:2 questions about my X201 tablet

My screen doesn't have any dead pixels, so I want to say that isn't normal, and I would try to get it exchanged. Calibration isn't perfect on any tablet, but when calibrating you need to try to calibrate it with the screen oriented how you will use it in tablet mode, and calibrate with the screen at whatever angle you will typically use it in. Typically the screen is the most accurate in the center and the least accurate along the edges. I've also read that it will never be better than how it was from the factory, so I just reset mine and have adapted how I write to the factory calibration. After a week or two you don't even notice if the stylus matches up perfectly on screen. But then again, if your screen is messed up, you might have a bigger calibration problem than what is normal. EDIT: My x201 doesn't have multitouch, so you should wait and let others chime in regarding multitouch calibration.

Hello, I recently purchased the X201 core i7 tablet with 8gb ram 500gb hdd superbright screen and i was obviously ecstatic when i got it from the UPS man  As a graphic artist I rely on pen sensitivity on tablets, and much to my dismay the pen sensitivity just didnt work at all for me. I since read the forums and realise that so many people have an issue with this and with much reading around i found that there were barely any answers/fixes. So, i will tell you what fixed this for me. Now this worked for me, it may not work for you but i hope it can help some people. I read on a forum elsewhere that for Photoshop you can fix this problem by turning OpenGL rendering off in Preferences->Performance. I did this and restarted CS4 and to my absolute delight it had fixed the issue, but not only for Photoshop! for the whole system! I must admit i had tried all the other fixes and merged installer fixes and none of them worked properly, but somewhere along the line i lost track of which drivers i was on when i got it working, but i do recommend trying this. Hope it helps and lenovo...... this laptop cost me 1700 and pen sensitivity is not supplied to me working properly! please please look into this and make it a core function as it is such a let down when youve looked forward to this otherwise brilliant piece of kit for so long. ruthy

Answer:X201 Tablet Pen Sensitivity

I'm running Windows 7 (x64).  I installed another Wacom Dual Touch driver, you can download from below URL:http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=3DCECDE5-CC85-46C7-809F-0DB2...--> Pen pressure tested OK on Photoshop CS5 RemarksI tried to download the Wacom Bamboo driver from official Wacom website, 2 versions tested:1) ver 5.2.1-6a (it seems OK with the pen pressure, but the hand touch is no effect)2) ver 5.2.4-5 (totally can't make it on both pen pressure & hand touch) ConclusionJust ride on Lenovo's Multi-touch driver (7wge60ww.exe), andinstall Wacom Dual Pad Touch driver ver 5.1.1-11

Hi all, I ordered an x201 tablet (should be here within a week) but i just need a little clarification on a few things i couldn't really find answers to. 1. I purchased it without a WWAN card (as i didn't know WWAN upgradable meant you needed to buy a card separately) and i want both WWAN and GPS. Does the Gobi 2000 card on the lenovo website come with GPS? as there is no mention of it having GPS capabilities. 2. Is a screen protector worth it? I have a multi-touch screen, but after looking on the internet there seems to be a problem with screen protectors affecting the multi-touch features. (i'm not that bothered with scratches or smudges, but will not using such a protector create black spots?) 3. To increase battery life is it possible to install an express card SSD and tell the system to store frequently used items there? What sort of program would i need or will windows 7 do this for me? 4. It comes with a 1 year depot warranty, can i purchase more before the 1 year expires? is it worth it and what does it cover? 5. Is there a slice battery for the x201t like the T and W series? from what i have been reading the 8 cell battery doesn't get anywhere near the stated 8 hours, can anyone confirm this? Sorry for all the questions, probably should have researched a bit more before buying it. Regards, Dennis

Answer:Few questions about the X201 Tablet

Well i just got my X201 Tablet i can answer a few of these questions. -Screen protector won't work with multi-touch features so they are probably not worth it.-Installing an SSD card in the expresscard slot using (readydrive i think) won't really help battery life-warranty can be upgraded, but seems to be a hit and miss as most of the repairs on the x201 tablet are considered user payable items.-Battery life with very light use using an 8 cell battery is around 4 hours with half brightness and wifi. Still unsure about the gobi 2000 WWAN card. Can someone confirm that all lenovo Gobi 2000 cards come with GPS capabilities, if not, where would i find one with both WWAN and GPS. Thanks

(The button placed near the power on\off button in tablet mode). I had a X60T in which it is possible to configure all buttons (including the arrows). On the X201T, in the "tablet and pen settings" in the control panel, it is only possible to configure three of the buttons. Is there a way to configure the rest of the buttons?  Thanks in advance,George.

Hi. I have an X201 Tablet.I have Intel 6200 AGN WLAN Card, Gobi 2000, and my X201t has an integrated USIM reader. I am trying to connect to an EAP-SIM authenticated WLAN, but I can't get it to work.I do have a EAP-SIM option on my WLAN settings, buy when I try to connect to the hotspot, it tells me it cannot find any card reader available. But my ThinkPad has integrated USIM reader, and my GOBI 2000 does recognize the card and connects to the 3G Network. Does any of you use EAP-SIM on X201T? Can you tell me how you do it?
