X220 Tablet pen support only no touch with finger

Question: X220 Tablet pen support only no touch with finger

Hi, I have been baffled by this issue for quite a while now. I have a lenovo X220 tablet that supports both finger and pen inputs for touch. Originally this laptop came with windows 7 and everything was fine and dandy. I then bought windows 8/8.1 Pro 64-bit and did a clean installation of it. Now I only have pen support for the touchscreen, i.e. my finger is recognized as a pen/mouse not a finger which is really frustrating specially when scrolling. Now before I actually purchased the win8 license I had tried out the windows 8 release preview and everything worked perfectly then. So now when I got the actual release of the OS its not. Furthermore I currently have a dual-boot set up with windows 10 technical preview as my other OS and in there it also works perfectly fine as it should. This is important because when I contacted lenovo about the issue they suggested that my screen was broken, but clearly it is not. Can anyone shed some light on this issue? It is a real shame not to be able to take advantage of this fine screen and windows 8 touch friendlyness. Kind regards.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:X220 Tablet - No finger touch capability only pen :(

there are two types of X220t and X230t screens used one is both touch sensitive and uses pen digitiser, there is another one that is outdoor screen version that is only pen digitiser (so there is no finger touch capability).

i guys im new in the form. i ve got a lenovo x201 tablet.im wondering about the multi touch option.Does x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch or only pen. And also i coudnt find my model type in lenovo.thats kind of weird Thanks for everything

Answer:lenovo x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch??(pen & finger)

Hi, btoymus23

I did some research on your machine and found its entry in the Personal Systems Reference. Machine type 3113-94U does not support MultiTouch, unfortunately. This information can be found in the link on page CML3-4 (use Ctrl+F to find it faster.)

MultiTouch, however, means to be able to use three distinct points on a touchscreen at once, not being able to use different touch inputs. I think you should be able to use your fingers to touch objects on the screen, though the pen might be easier.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Answer:lenovo x201 tablet 3093-bf8 support multi touch??(pen & finger)

3093-bf8 does not appear in the tabook reference so it was probably a custom build. Most X201 tablets do not support finger touch, but you can find the screen FRU by entering your serial number here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page

My X220 tablet comes with pen and limited touch support with 2 touch points. I have no issues on windows 7 but on windows 8.1 it has changed to be working with only 1 touch point since some time that I don't remember exactly when. So that I can work with one finger only and 2-finger functions such as pinch to zoom are unavailable. My drivers are all uptodate. I think I should completely uninstall the related driver before reinstalling but don't know how to procede and couldn't find the solution. I tried uninstalling all HIDs through Device manager and one-by-one, specifically wacom device. when I uninstall it, I lose touch option completely. but reinstalling through Device Manager sounds like recovering exactly the previous faulty condition. Maybe there is a conflict with windows 8.1 like Microsoft Input Configuration Device which might be unlikely.  So is there any other way to have full wipe and clean reinstall of those touch screen drivers? I appreciate it if you put links to the drivers for me, if they are not available on Lenovo Support. Tell me if you had the same touch issue in Windows 8.1  and how you solved it. Thanks

I HAVE A X200 TABLET 7449-9EU IM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THIS MODEL IS FINGER TOUCH COMPATIBLE IF SOMEONE CAN POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION I WOULD BE GRATEFUL.

Answer:X200 tablet how can I find out which models are finger touch compatible

Well I would say that the most empiric way to do it is just try to touch your screen on some dialog boxes or pictures where gestures would trigger a reaction from the computer..... Indeed it's not very easy to figure it out from Lenovo support website ... I tried the product number but this only gave back basic characteristics of the machine, not the exact type of display/screen  I know mine is wacom enabled and (finger) touch compatible and I think I figured this out by... trying  http://shop.lenovo.com/us/landing_pages/multitouch_technology

Hi,I'm not seeing X220 T listed by Lenovo in laptops-windows 10 compatibilty list...??? Is that right? Mine is a 3 years old system... I can't believe is not going to be possible to use Windows 10... Anyone has tried it?Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 support for X220 Tablet

Hello,

It may work fine with Windows 10, however, I don't believe its generation of CPU, IGP and chipset are supported by Intel for Windows 10, which means that Lenovo can't support them, either.  For what it is worth, I installed Windows 10 on a ThinkPad X61t and didn't notice any issues, and that has been out of support for a much longer time than your X220t.

That said, it could be that Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 drivers for the various bits of silicon inside your X220 tablet may work just fine under Windows 10, in which case you would be up and running.

The best suggestion I have is to make a thorough backup of your X220 and then try applying the Windows 10 Upgrade.  If it doesn't work, you will be able to wipe the drive and then reload your backup.

I bought x220 tablet 4 days ago with multitouch (lenovo model number: 4296-2BG). Straight out of the box the touchscreen is not working in approximately 20-25% of the screen surface. The affected area is in one piece on the right-hand side (if looking in regular notebook configuration), however the most of the edges of the screen work. The touch works correctly at other parts of the screen, but on this part there are spots where I never managed to make the touch and there are spots where only sporadically and randomly I can make the touch work. The problem can be repeated no matter if the computer works on battery or on AC, no matters if it is in tablet or in notebook configuration, and no matter what the program you use. It is most clearly seen in Paint - drawing by finger goes well until you get to the part of the screen when abruptly stops and only continues when you get to the healthy part of the screen.  I spent 2 days of trying to get it wok by- calibrating touch screen- turning on and off the touch ability- trying to tweak the touch through built-in properties- installing the newest drivers from lenovo- installing the newest drivers from wacom- cleaning the screen surface with the little cleaning tissue that comes along- turning on and off wifi, bluetooth, camera, and virtually everything I could turn on/off By the way, the system is in the vanilla state - I did not install anything on it (except new drivers for touch). Just made the 'recovery disk'... Read more

Good day. I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ThinkPad X220t  with warranty for one year. The laptop came with a factory seal. When I turn on a notebook,  the operating system(win 7 Prof 64bit) automatically install. At the end of installation in device manager  all devices have been identified and worked fine.  But in computer details in the "system" was written ?No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display?. Then I installed all the drivers on a laptop from Lenovo website again and again. That did not help. Then I reinstalled windows (win 7 Prof 32bit). That did not help. Previously, I had two X200t and when I installed windows 7, the digitizer immediately was detected, for the good work of  the touchscreen it was necessary to install drivers. But the situation with the X220 for me incomprehensible. Explain what I did wrong. The type of ThinkPad printed on the back label is 4294-CTR(in BIOS the type is 4294-CTO).

I know itīs quite abstract to ask this... but if anyone has this info, write in percentage. Gorilla Glass - 100% of resistanceInfinity Glass -  ???% of resistance The "why" for this dilemma: Gorilla Glass version:- sunny places like Brazil (and eventually, parks, huge lines, work events) will fit well to the outdoor view feature (I work with architectural projects and sometimes I must be at the building site to give some advices... often I had to instruct without the roof ready)- resistance enough against mild levels of clumsiness (drop to the ground, accidental beatups at slim backpacks, etc)- no fingerprints (Iīm a little neurotic with those things) Infinity Glass version:- I loved the multi-gesture (tested on Ipad)- excellent to browse webpages, comics, general images, etc very accessible and quick instead picking the pen every time (this case would be more for pleasure rather for work)- the real changes of the outdoor screen with this isnīt much far... still possible to look on it at the shade (like on a bus with big windows or just something with enough roof to cover the sun spot)  The big answer will come depending on how fragile it is... I remember to read some people at forums complaining about how fragile it was and how easily broke with a simple fall.   Thanks for reading. ps: if any of you guys have an idea of what suits better me, feel free to write.

Ok, so the lcd is definitely multitouch , which is now a reason to concern .Basically , windows recognize it as a laptop, no hid touch input devices in device manager whatsoever. Is this a common issue? Tryed unpluging and plugging back in LCD micro cables but nothing.

Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo X220 Tablet that has touch screen and pen. They suddenly stopped working today. The LCD screen still works pefectly fine, however. The touch screen is enabled on the touch settings. When I try to calibrate, it does not detect my finger or the pen. I also noticed that when I tried to reinstall the driver and it said "a supported tablet was not found on this system". I have the most recent bios. I am running Windows 7 that came with the laptop. All windows updates completed. Is it possible for the digitizer to be defective, but the LCD screen to work perfectly fine?Could it be just a ribbon failure?Which part would need to be replaced, if this is the case? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:X220 tablet touch screen suddenly stopped working

Even though it looks like a single device, it is really 3 separate ones.  There is a basic panel.  There is a static discharge digitizer in the front to sense finger touches.  There is a second Wacom digitizer behind the panel to detect the pen.  Any of them can fail.  The wires in the cable can also crack.  Since both digitizers failed, I would first look in device manager to see if there could be a problem with a USB hub.  (digitizers both connect as USB devices.)  My next guess would be the cable.  Sorry I cannot be more definite.

I was previously running Windows 8 Preview and did not have any problems with the touch screen.  I have tried two separate clean installs of Windows 8 Pro, and the only thing that will not work is the touch screen with my finger.  The pen still works, but not the finger touch.  The driver installation for both the pen and the multitouch fails with and error saying "A supported tablet was not found on the system." Help Please.

when attempting to connect 2 external monitors to an x220 Laptop (1 via onboard VGA port, 1 via VGA port on docking station) only 1 monitor is detected by the laptop.  It seems that the onboard VGA port gets disabled when connecting a second monitor to the vga port on the docking station.  Does anyone know of a workaround for this?  Is this configuration supported?  Do I have to buy a docking station with 2 video ports?

Answer:Dual External monitor support for x220 laptop\tablet

Only one of the vga port can be used at any given time, so if you want to use the second vga out you would need a displayport to vga adapter.

I have installed Windows 8.1 Professional on on a Lenovo X220 Tablet and everything seems to have installed correctly, although my system, which supported limited touch with 2 touch points in Windows 7, only has Pen Support in 8.1. I have been able to get the system to be recognized as "Pen and Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points" but only if I disable/unintall the Intel HD 3000 driver, and use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead.  The problem is that the resolution isn't as crisp.   Any recommendations as to what I can do to get the limted touch to be recognized with the Intel HD 3000 driver?  This one is baffling.   Any help would be appreciated.  The X220 Tablet's type is 4296-2WU Also, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver is the latest version compatible with 8.1 64bit - 9.17.10.3517. Update: I have also tried the previous Intel driver release, 9.17.10.3347, as well as the recommend Intel driver from the support page 9.17.10.2843 and non of them allow my screen to do Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points.  Yet, if I disable the Intel driver, and restart, I can.

Answer:X220 Tablet and Windows 8.1 - Limited Touch drops with Intel HD 3000 is installed?

Troy,

Thanks for sharing your expeirences and the details of the driver version.

Officially, I don't think Lenovo provided full support for Win 8 on the X220, but as you note it (and the upgrade to 8.1) can work with some limitations.   I'll check with one of our software engineers to see if he may have some suggestions on this one.

I expect you will probably draw some responses from the community as the X220 was a very popular system with a good following.

Best regards,

Hello All - I just noticed that my multi-touch (not enhanced multi-touch) screen no longer responds to finger touch; just pen. It used to respond to both before i upgraded to Windows 7.I tried the Lenovo diagnostic check for the touch screen, and during the test, it only responded to the pen. What should I do? Is there a certain driver i'm missing or need to uninstall and then re-install?Thanks in advance.

Answer:Post Windows 7 Upgrade - Touch Panel Not Responding to Finger Touch (x200t)

Ok...I think i really screwed something up. As per a Lenovo support tech's advice, i installed the Windows 7 "Enhanced" Multi-touch Driver, even though i do not have the enhanced multi-touch screen, and this is what it says on Lenovo's site about this new driver: "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the Multitouch are NOT supported." "*1: ThinkPad X200 Tablet models with the ENHANCED Multitouch ARE supported." So, i go ahead and install it. I notice that finger touch now works, but the pen setting are now all screwed up! The eraser no longer responds when i turn the pen around to erase. It actually INKS with the eraser as well! OneNote no longer automatically starts inking (or erasing) when i bring the pen (or eraser) into range. I have to manually click on the pen icon (or the eraser icon) on the tool bar to use these functionalities! *groan* In the Tablet PC Input Panel: no eraser functionality (it inks instead!!) and even the button on the pen (which previously had the right-click ability) only inks when pressed down! I think i made my situation worse...Please Help! Adam

I have ThinkPad X230 Tablet. It used to have non-functioning touch screen. I did something, and now the screen responds to pen input, but it doesn't work properly for finger touch. When I touch with finger, only thing it does is minimize or maximize window. When I change position of taskbar (with start menu and icons), it doesn't maximize/minimize.  I think this means that when I touch with finger, cursor clicks at bottom right corner of display, where there is button for maximize/minimize window

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 °CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 °C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 °C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... Has anyone come across a problem with PEN input not being available at boot but becoming available when you disable and re-enable the HID component.  As soon as you shut the machine down and restart PEN input once again unavailable.  Windows event logs contains no error message in relation to hardware or drivers and none of the devices show and issues in device manager.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi guys, Been a fan of the Thinkpads and I just upgraded to a X220 (42863CB). I have grown quite dependent on the finger print reader, and I'm sad to find that the behavior of my finger print reader is absolutely odd. When the machine boots up, the FPR module's LED lights do not flash, unlike all the other LEDs in the X220. The fingerprint reader is not recognized in the Fingerprint section of the Security tab in the BIOS, and is also not found in Windows 7. However, when the laptop gets shut down, the LED on the FPR module lights up! When I swipe my finger on it, the organish light will flash. It is almost as if the chip only gets activated when the system is powered off. This doesn't work on reboots, and the lights will go off if the system is powered up again. Does this mean that the FPR module is faulty? I just got the laptop for an oversea trip, and I don't have much time to wait  for the laptop to get serviced  The FPR worked once in the past, and I was able to enrolled my fingerprints and used the FPR for authentications. All the software and drivers have been updated to the latest version.

Answer:X220 finger printer reader powers on only AFTER shutdown

Try downloading the latest upgrade to the driver. There's an update for the FB.

Hello there, I'm interested in finding out more about the X220 - In particular the actual bandwidth available to the i7 Version of the X220 with it's USB 3 port. I'd like to be able to use the Black Magic Design Intensity Shuttle with this laptop, however it requires a Super Speed USB 3.0 Port. It's common for laptops to only use a single PCIe lane interconnect, giving the USB3 Port only 2.5gbps of available bandwidth. This won't be enough to allow that capture card to work  A similar situation also exists for the Expresscard slot - To be able to support Expresscard v2.0, It needs to provide 5gbps (2x PCIe v1 lanes). If it does this, It's possible I can buy an USB 3 Expresscard which will have enough bandwidth to use the card. In short I would like to know if the super speed USB 3 port can actually function at the intended speed, and is not crippled to half rate.

Hi netbeans, welcome to the forum, afaik, X4* tablets didn't have this capability. Depending on model X6* tablets do.So if you want to give your tablet "the finger" it had better be an X6* tablet.

I'm new to the Tablet community but excited to venture into it.  My workplace provided me with an X201 Tablet type 2985 model C5U.  The pen works great but I can emulate any of the finger/touch demos.  Is this not supported with my type or model?  Or do I need a special driver.  When I open the tablet PC settings, I'm given the option to identify my screen as PEN or TOUCH.  While I select TOUCH, no finger combination (one or two) that presses my screen will invoke anything.  I was hoping this would be a touch solutoin albeit more powerful than the iPad.  Appreciate your responses everyone. Thank you. L

The screen becomes insensitive to a finger when I am about an inch away from the screen with the pen, but this is not enough to avoid accidental dots and lines with your finger. Can one either configure the pen distance from the screen from which on finger touch is disabled? Or can one disable finger touch altogether? I have been following some discussions on forums providing some workarounds, but maybe there is a simpler solution around?138

Question: x220 tablet DOA.

So. I ended up, after about a month and a half of lurking on forums and reading reviews, purchasing an X220t with most of the bells and whistles, along with an extended next day onsite warrranty, extra pen, etc. I track it all the way from China on the UPS site every three hours. It has been an unhealthy obsession. And it arrived in the mail. Dead. Won't work. Won't boot. DOA (mostly. several indicator lights flash a bit, but I don't hear a HD, fans spinning, or screen turning on.)  I've talked with tech support (who did what they could [Nice people!]) but they were unable to get any immediate help or provide any advice beyond 'we'll call you'.Also, they couldn't find verification that I had a warranty for awhile. My concern is that this is for college, and I'll be going to school on the other end of the country (Colorado School of Mines!). And I'll be leaving shortly, and work has left me short on time, etc. So, how common is this? Should I try to get my money back and just buy a Fujitsu tablet, or something else from a retailer? There is always bragging about thinkpads being so tough, and mine is dead after a ride through UPS via Worldport. ( I know... could be any number of components that were dead to begin with, etc.) Are they just crap? I'm trying to keep it cool, but I just spent a whole lot of money, including on a warranty which is generally just gravy for most companies, and I've recieved a very pretty lump of plastic (again, I'm not an ent... Answer:x220 tablet DOA.

Sideburns, welcome to the forum,

I'm sorry to read about your experience, something like this must be a huge disappointment after having waited eagerly for the arrival of your new ThinkPad.

So far you seem to have handled the situation correctly and would ask you to take a look at this post in our FAQs; Mark's Advice About DOA systems.

I personally feel that in your situation, due to the time limitations you mention, the quickest route for you to persue would be with support and having the system repaired. Yes you have stong arguments to ask for a refund or an exchange system, but these could potentially take longer to realise than having the system repaired.

As to your question to how common this is; in my experience it's not at all common. I personally have been selling Think products for over 11 years and can count on one hand the number of systems I have seen which were literally DOA.

Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks. Why even release a model when both screen options are delayed more than four weeks? It's a phantom launch. No real product is available. I first checked this an hour or two after "launch" so it's always been like this. This is rediculous and is just a cash grab with the idea "see! it's available, please don't give your money to another company". Don't release products you can't ship. Don't release products before every major option is available, i.e., Gorilla Glass, i5, i7 processors...

Answer:The x220 Tablet is not available

It's interesting that apparently the Canadian site actually tells you in advance that there will be a 4+ week delay. On the US site, none of the options have notices saying they may cause delays. The order says "ships in 8-12 business days" all the way up until you check out, at which point it changes to "estimated ship date" in 5+ weeks (5/27/11).

I hope I'm not making a mistake, I have a 6364-BV2, I assume it's multitouch (as long as the pen works, should finger touch work as well?) and I'm not able to use my fingers to touch anything on the screen. It's the low-rez version... I tried installing the multitouch driver but for nothing... I have xp tablet edition... Is it possible that my tablet doesn't actually have multitouch (finger touch capability) and only the pen is supposed to work? Thanks

Answer:x60 multitouch issue: finger touch won't work

Not all screen are multitouch capable, the pen have a special proximty device that the sensors on a layer on top of the screen picks up, unless the screen also has an additional sensor sheet for your finger, it would not work with your finger... There are two types of screen option one is Multitouch and Non-multitouch in the XGA format, and SXGA format is definitely non multi-touch.

Hello everybody, this is my first post on this forum, from my first lenovo PC, so I'm truly a newbie. Just picked up my brand new x220t from a local reseller, and tried to configure it to fit my needs. During the process I realized I'm not able to configure the touchscreen nor use it. The digi-pen works fine though. 1. I've checked under Control Panel | Pen & Touch Devices. This window should have 4 tabs (the last on the right should read Touch), but it ain't there as if some functionality was missing. 2. I also tried to turn the touch screen on/off via Simple Tap. It does inform me that I'm about to switch the touch screen off (and as a matter of fact I'm not able to use it wth my fingers) but when I turn it on again the touchscreen still doesn't react to my fingers. 3. I've downloaded all the win7 as well as lenovo updates via the update managers, installed them and did a complete restart of the system - still no touchscreen. 4. Under device Manager I tried to find Wacom  devices, but couldn't find any. (the touch screen is a Wacom, am I correct?) 5. In despair I even started reading the pdf manual where one can read:  "Some models have the touch panel feature". This left me a little bit uneasy. Do ALL x220 convertible tablets have finger sensitive touchscreens? I have read the sticky thread about conventional vs. multitouch lenovo tablets, and I gather that the answer should be yes - all have finger input besides digi-pen. ... Read more

Answer:x220t - NYK27PB - no finger touch input

The models with the outdoor screen (the one that has a reinforced gorilla glass surface) don't have multi-touch, only pen support. If your model doesn't have the outdoor screen then it should have multi-touch support, if that is the case perhaps you should contact tech support? It's possible that it's just a hardware problem and needs replacing.  Also, the pen digitiser uses Wacom technology, as far as I'm aware the multi-touch system doesn't.

But it is so annoying....gestures with the pen arent very user friendly. Any tips? Thanks!

Answer:No finger/touch gestures with x230t @ Windows 8

Hi, schlomm

What is the model number of your X230T? You should be able to find this information on the back of the system near the serial number. It should be in the format of XXXX-XXX, such as 3247-A2E.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hi, I'm new to the tablet and experiencing that even when I turn off the "Touch pointer" in control panel, the cursor is always above my finger about 1 inch.  This makes it is very hard to navigate and I cannot even open the Start menu at the bottom. How do I change this behavior? Thanks for your help!

Hi, Does the current x200 tablet multitouch screen have the capability to one day support multiple finger touches at the same time (similar to iphone)? I'm not speaking software-size, i mean strictly hardware-size. Thanks,Chris

Answer:x200 Tablet True Multi-finger hardware capability

As far as I understand: No.Usually the term "Multitouch" means exactly what you are describing. But I think that IBM/Lenovo started using the term BEFORE the iphone-way (and the trackpad-way of MacBooks) became what's now meant by Multitouch. With Lenovo it simply means a screen with both pen and finger-touch capability. The hardware for a "true" multitouch system is based on a capacitative touch-technology, the X200 screen is NOT. Unfortunately...I think that at this moment Dell is the only company producing a "true" multitouch tablet. But Vista supposedly supports it. Martin

Answer:PLEASE HELP - Should I buy Tablet or Standard X220?

tablet allows you to directly write on the screen or use your finger as an input device (if you select the multitouch option), so if you have need for such feature, then the tablet obviously will the best choice. If you don't use the handwriting or touch screen option, then the normal x220 laptop is better, as it is slightly lighter than the tablet model and also slightly more rugged due to the different hinge design.

I'm configuring an order for a maxed x220 tablet. I really want a large (512gb or higher SSD). Since that's not a factory option I guess I'll have to go aftermarket, open the case and do a home upgrade. I've done plenty of drive upgrades before but not an SSD.My review of message board makes it seem like there can be fit problems with some SSDs in the x220, and that with SSDs in general you should do a clean install and not a full clone (with OS).  That always raises issues with drivers and QA'ing the install to make sure you got it all back to factory fresh. I've read the posts about using a smaller SSD in the extra slot as a boot drive and keeping files on HDD, but I would really like to have everything on the faster media. So my question is, are there any x220 tablet owners out there that have self-installed large SSDs. Any tips, warnings or reassurances? Thx

Answer:x220 tablet and large SSD

HI,  I installed Intel 320 SSD (160 Gb) and used Acronis to clone the previous drive. It worked well. What may be of greater interest to you, is that I had to remove a black spacer attached to the SSD to make it 7mm from 9.5mm.  It can be easily done with Intel SSDs (except 510, I think), but you will have to order shorter screws online. Just search Google or this forum for screws for Intel SSD. Good luck!

Hi guys, New x220 tablet. Has been working fine, left it for the weekend and coming back to it this morning it will not bootup. Is built with Windows 7 and I had the full functionality of the biometrics running and sync'd with drivelock/bios password. On trying to boot this morning using the power button, I press it once, the button lights green (around edge), for a second, then disappears, the biometric light goes green for a second then disappears.  Nothing else happens from there. Have tried the usual - battery replaced, booting on just power etc but same happens.  I cannot hear or feel the hdd spinning (i have an identical model also which is working fine). Have searched through the forums and inet but cannot find any issues relating to the light sequence etc (wondering if it had a specific sequence to tell me what the errors are).... Suspect HDD has gone as it is just not spinning, but cannot be sure as I cannot get to BIOS or anything else..... Any ideas?

Answer:x220 Tablet will not bootup

Edited to add: I swapped hdd out and put it in identical tablet - HDD seems to work fine. Popped it back into the offending tablet, tried to switch power on and the green light around power button alternates with biometric light (on and off) for around 30 seconds and ends up with biometric light green and power light off.... Also swapped out memory - still nothing - no access to BIOS etc - no warning beeps...

Hello!  I have an X220 tablet with a stylus that, whenever near the screen, begins writing or selecting. Depending on the program I have open of course. The touch features work fine, and to the best of my knowledge all my drivers are up to date. At this point I think I need to simply replace the pen, but before I spend the money on that, i would like to see if any of you know how to fix this without a new pen.  Thank you for your time,BriceJ

I am still confused what caused this problem.Sometimes my X220 will freeze/hang. The only thing i can do is move the cursor around but I can't do nothing except it.I even try to restore it to factory setting and the problem is still there.

Answer:Anybody got same problem with X220 tablet?

Is there a free way to downgrade from Windows 7 to the XP Tablet OS? Our customer has applications that will not run on Win 7.

Answer:X220 downgrade to XP Tablet OS

Hi and welcome to the forum Tom1956!

There is (or was perhaps) an option from lenovo, however it was never free. The following support doc states the downgrade program ended in July, regardless I'd suggest to give them a call and ask:- http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=VSTA-DWNGRD

Hope this helps.

The truth is I don't know whether I should get a X220 tablet or standard X220.  I just think the tablet thing could be fun when reading, sorting and editing photos, etc., and I'd still have a X220 if it turns out to be useless.  Is this a correct assumtion? =)I've seen X220 tables come with an UltraBase and a DVD-RW drive.  I'd like a setup where I have some sort of docking station at my desktop were I can attach to a larger (DisplayPort) monitor, a keyboard, scanner, etc, and quickly snap my pc out for mobile work, preferably with the option of having a DVD-drive attached.  Would a X220 tablet with the UltraBase fit in the Dock or should the UltraBase be removed first?  Can the UltraBase be seen as a portable clip-on DVD-drive or should it be regarded as an alternative to a Dock?  Or put in a use-case:  I have my X200 tablet with the UltraBase and drive.  Can I quickly click this in the Dock and continue (say) watching DVD on my monitor?  Or do I have to move all cables from the Dock to the UltraBase?  Same for standard X220?What's the max output when connected to a UltraBase and/or Dock?  Or put in a different way: Can the X220 tablet fully use a 1920x1200 monitor?  What's the max resolution?  Same for standard X220?Where can I find jucy specs like these?  The standard white paper only shows very brief defails and only for the laptop's own screen.I seems like there are two versions of the X220 tablet disp... Answer:Questions regarding X220 tablet before I buy one

1. That is "correct" but it would also be "expensive." The tablet is several hundred dollars more expensive for a feature you may never use.2. The UltraBase IS a dock. And for the tablet, it is the ONLY dock. It is technically portable but I wouldn't recommend carrying it around. As far as I know, the X220 without tablet has other options, but you wouldn't be able to use an UltraBase and a dock at the same time.3. The tablet can handle 1920x1200 and higher, but I haven't personally tested beyond 1920x1080 (my monitor is an HDTV which only goes up to 1080p). 5. The Gorilla glass is only on the outdoor model. It does not support two finger touch. Both displays have stylus input. 7. Ignoring the weight difference, the experience should be identical, although I haven't tested this myself. I would recommend against getting a tablet. I and many others are having great issue with the accuracy of the stylus input.

Hi everyone I have had a Lenovo X220 tablet for a while now. I bought it on eBay. I can't send it to lenovo to fix, of course. My config (currrent):Win 8.1 pro (legal)Sandisk 128gb SSDLenovo 2x4 gb ram My problem is the following: as some in this forum experienced too, it just reboots randomly for no reason. It goes "clic", black screen and back to bios then OS.The behavior is the exact same as if you kept the power button pressed until it reboots. What I've been testing so far:- Switching OS (I've tested win7, win8, ubuntu, debian, elementaryos, archlinux)- Switching HDD (one SSD, one HDD)- Switching ram (removed one, removed the other, switched positions)- Flashing the bios, upgrading, downgrading it)- Watching the CPU, fan, temp: all normal. For some reason the best experience was with Windows 8.What could it be? I used lenovo diagnostics tools downloaded from their official site, but the only one that works is memorytest (which proved to be ok) I don't want another computer, I love that one and I don't want to change. Some people mention driver issues (graphics card, power management, stylus)... Could you please, please, help me? I don't know what to do anymore. And I don't have the money to get another computer right now. I am a teacher and I draw comics as a hobby and I need my lenovo to ink and color my work.  I'm fairly aware as to informatics, I know how to create live usbs, I know how to uninstall / reinstall drivers, I know how to use m... I just got an X220 Tablet, with windows 7 pro. When I turn on the autolock (with integrated camera) function, it freezes the trackpoint and touchpad after I re-login. This is really sucks and I have to restart the computer to fix this. Do any of you guys have the same problem? I guess Lenovo should fix the bug.

Answer:X220 Tablet: Autolock bug

I tried this on X220 tablet and could not find any problem like you say.  Do you have any more details?
- Does this always happen when autolock locks the system, or does it only happen sometimes?
- Does this happen if you press WindowsKey-L to lock the system?
- What version of autolock do you have installed?  You can find it in control panel -> programs -> programs and features

I tried using the registry hack in Windows 8 to stop my battery charging higher than 95%, and was sucesful. however this has also had the effect of meaning that when I plug the charger in when the laptop is on, it says "plugged in, not charging". If I turn the laptop off, or put it into Standby, then plug the charger in, it starts charging fine and continues to do so after turning it back on. I have tried re-installing Windows 8.1 (and not installed any of the power management drivers) incase it was a driver problem, however this has not fixed it. If there is some way to completly reset the battery controller (i'm not sure if the chip that does this is in the battery of laptop) then I would be very glad to know.

I have a x220 tablet with SSD.Need a little more space, so was thinking of adding a mSATA SSD. Will want to continue to use my "regular" SSD as my boot and just use mSATA for storage (run VMs off it so need speed). I don't think there are any issues but figure was worth asking.  Moved to correct forum.

Answer:X220 Tablet - SSD and mSata SSD

no real issues. But the mSATA is only SATAII, whilst the main hdd bay operates at SATAIII.

I just purchased X220 Tablet. While purchasing I was made to understand that the system comes with Mobile Broadband Ready. However I am unable to use  my SIM card. I have inserted the SIM in the slot underneath the Battery, as was mentioned in the manual. But it does not work, no internet connection and in Access Connection the Mobile Broadband button is greyed. Can some one explain reason? I am able to use the sim with the pocketwifi, the tablet is able to detect through wifi but I wanted my 3G to be inthe laptop so taht I don;t have to use pocketwifi or USB dongle.

Answer:SIM Card in X220 Tablet

can you post your x220 model & type number xxxx-xxx more than likely its just upgradable which would mean no radio
