Mouse cursor with grey circle flickering on ThinkPad X220 Tablet with Windows 7?

Question: Mouse cursor with grey circle flickering on ThinkPad X220 Tablet with Windows 7?

Here is my question, it contians an image of the cursor in question, I guess I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Lenovo software that's installed on it. Not too long ago we removed Quickboot, so I wonder if this has anything to do wtih it.

Preferred Solution: Mouse cursor with grey circle flickering on ThinkPad X220 Tablet with Windows 7?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You're triggering Chiral Scrolling. You can disable it in the UltraNav control panel.

Whenever I press and hold my mouse, this grey circle goes around my cursor with the words, 'Home, Back, Forward, and End.' This is extremely annoying because it pops out whenever I don't want it to, and I accidentally press something that takes me back
as if I was using the arrows in the top left of the computer. I don't know its purpose, but it's really annoying. How do I get rid of this? Windows 10. This appears when you lighty press your mouse and hold.

Dear community, I found my screen starts flickering not long after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my thinkpad x200 tablet. It happens especially when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop and when I maximize a Microsoft Edge brower on screen. Scrolling the mouse will trigger the lines on a page flickering back and forth or partially disappeared. This is really annoying when I want to scroll down a little bit to find some useful information. I have tried to use the "sfc /scannow" command to identify potential problems and to reinstall compatible Thinkpad graphics and video drivers, but no luck. I have also tried other solutions that I can find online (like disabling the issue reporting service), yet still this problem persists. I contacted Microsoft for their assistance, and they suggest me to ask the manufacture to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks,Qi

Here is a quick soultion to this screen problem in windows 10  1. Type ?msconfig? in run box and open it 2. Click on the ?Services? tab. 3 Scroll down and find two services named ?Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel ?and ?Windows Error Reporting Service?. If you have difficulty finding these two services then you click on ?Service? column header in the table. This will alphabetically arrange all the services. 4. Uncheck these two services. Hello,

Sorry if this is answered elsewhere.

I have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.

I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD  8600 series graphics drivers.

This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Alex

Whenever I choose one of the alternative printers (other than the default) I get a spinning blue circle and flickering mouse. This happens when I am using Word 2007. OS is 32 bit Win 7.

I have tried to see what processes are running in Task Manager and could not determine anythng that is hogging resources.

Furthermore, I find that in Word, Outlook and IE I am unable to print in colour at this alternative printer even though the setup shows that colour has been correctly chossen.

I have not problems printing in colour in Excel

Once the cursor starts misbehaving in Word I have no option but to shut it down and start again.

I do not get the curor problems in Outlook or IE but do have the problem with the printer not choosing the right colour option.

Does anyone have any clues where I should start looking for the solution?

Answer:Spinning circle and flickering mouse when alternative printer chosen

open word, outlook,ie etc and pint (most applications use CTRL-P to activate it). Then select the alternative printer and click properties. Set it to colour and print.

Hello

I have problem with mouse cursor that jumps during opening some aplications.

The problem is described in

but I can't get any hotfix for Toshiba. They say to contac the Microsoft Support, and they wan to pey me for that.

Does anyone have thishotfix?

Best regards

Answer:Jumping mouse cursor on Windows XP Tablet

Hi,

just one question: why didn?t you tried the hotfix from microsoft? I mean it?s not brand-related, it?s more an operating system issue.
So please install the hotfix and check if it?s work.

So, if it didn?t worked then come back and give some feedback and we will discuss further about that issue.

This has been going on for about a week now. I haven't done any new changes to my PC and all of a sudden I'm getting a permanent blue loading circle next to my mouse cursor.

I have tries using things like CC Cleaner, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and the like all to no avail. While doing so did clean up any junk and problems I had otherwise, it didn't fix this loading circle.

It used to go away after a quick log-off, but now it persists no matter what I do.

Ever since I got my Helix (i5, 4 GB, 180GB SSD), I noticed on occasion I must accidentally do something that triggers a small 1-inch (or smaller) box on my screen with a cursor in it.  Sometimes if I do a variety of things with the touchscreen around/on the box, it may turn into a shadowed circle instead, but the cursor still stays in there and moving around the mouse is just a jittery cursor. The only way I've officially been able to make it go away was by reboot.  I tried changing a variety of settings in the TouchPad settings, but nothing seemed to make a difference. However, I do notice it's a lot less frequent when I use an External USB Mouse, so maybe it is being triggered by something on the TouchPad or touch screen itself. Windows and the Lenovo system are both up-to-date.  Though, like somebody else posted here... I too have 2 unknown devices.  (Likely irrelevent)

Answer:Helix - Mouse cursor stuck on screen with box or shadowy-circle around it.

That's the phantom touch.the gray circle or box is the touchpoint shown on Windows 8. They show up on certain point on the screen where  Windows thinks the user is touching at the moment. The box stands for the right click, and it shows up when you touch and hold on the touchscreen. So the geay box means that the instance of phantom touch is persisting on one specific location on screen. My helix' have had the same problems. this is my third helix after two replacements(the first one had battery and touch problem, the second one had the same problem with yours, and my current machine, after 1 week of normal usage, is showing the same problem again...I think it has something to do with insufficient strength on the chassis or something, since phantom touch seems to occur more often when it is held by one hand...I will call the service center to see if I could get the THIRD replacement(which will get me FOURTH machine), and I recommend you do the same too, since it will probably get worse over time.

The main reason why I chose the x220 tablet was for school purpose. Most of my classes are notes you buy from the teacher (40-50$ a booknote) or powerpoints which I have to print out (Around 800 powerpoint pages, 400 papers per class). So thread is a good thread for all the students out there.  I was a big fan of Asus for their good quality hardware and for their EEE pc brand. I had a netbook, with a 10 hours battery life. So battery was my main concern at that time. I was bringing it in the lab and loved it for its small size and long life battery. Then one day, I saw a new product from Asus at CES 2010, the ep121. I was like ?wow, that tablet would be great for school!? I then did some research to find out more about it. That?s where I found the poor 3 hours battery. So I continued my research to find a tablet that would fill in this job. That?s when I found out about lenovos thinkpad tablet. I was impressed about the overall laptops but the x220 tablet stood out? 19 hours battery? I couldn?t find anything better. So I ordered it. For all the students who think 1300$ is expensive, let me tell you this. How much do your texts books cost? From my experience, I spend 1-2 reference book, 3 text book and lots of prints out a semester. My spending would be around 200-300 $ every semester. Right now, with my tablet, I?m not buying or printing anything for school. I borrow my friend?s books, scan them (process that takes haft an hour per text book) a... Read more

Answer:Why I chose thinkpad: x220 tablet

Thanks for the student's perspective. I'm currently waiting for mine and plan on using it in class as well. My previous setup was an SL410 with a Wacom Bamboo, so I can appreciate how awesome it is to cutout the paper from note taking process. I didn't progress quite as far as you with scanning textbooks though... baby steps I guess. As for the Fn key, I read that you can change that in the BIOS. I'm sure someone more computer literate has already outlined exactly how to do this on the X220t. Not sure if the keys themselves are swappable though...?

Hi, all: I found the touchpad, when the computer is plugged in to an outlet and battery is at 100%, jumpy and it misclicks often. This can be repeatedly demostrated by holding a finger in the middle of the touchpad; while doing so for 3-10 seconds, the mouse cursor would jump around by itself. Note that the issue exists on other regions of the touchpad as well but is less obvious.  My best guess is that this is a hardware voltage related issue as 1. my finger feels the increase in current from the trackpad; 2. the issue is completely gone when the computer is on battery; 3. reinstalling the driver doesn't help; and 4. it has been reported that the touchpad is jumpy when plugged in with a 90w adapter: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/90w-adapter-leads-to-unusable-jumpy-touchpad/t... The system (Product ID: 4294CTO) is competely new (that is, I have received it last Thursday). It has a Core i7 processor, a 65W adapter, one 4GB RAM, and multitouch screen input. The operating system is windows 7 64bit and the power profile was set to "Maximum Performance".  Both drivers for the touchpad, UltraNav (15.3.6.0) and Synaptics Pointing Device Driver (15.2.20.0) were installed independently (uninstall and install) and tested. The sensitivity of the touchpad was set to the default value (second step of the sensitivity slider from left).  This issue renders the computer unusable. For instance, the touchpad would u... Hi, Yesterday I bought a used X220 Tablet - the version with Gorilla Glass - and installed Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) on it.What a great little computer this is! But what disappointed me was the lack of precision of the pen that came with the tablet. Unfortunately I could not find a setting - or program - to calibrate the pen. On this forum I learned that a lot of owners have to deal with a pen that is not accurate. On one of the posts I read it was mentioned that the digitizer in the X220 Tablet is made by Wacom, so I went their website for a recent drivers. Luckily, I soon found an appropriate tool, the Wacom Hardware Check, on ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/WINDOWS/WacomHardwareCheck.exe . After downloading and running it, I was told:"You have hardware that is compatible with the Wacom FEEL driver. You can download the latest driver here: http://www.wacom.com/feeldriver " The URL led to a file on http://cdn.wacom.com/u/drivers/TabletPC/ISD_DualTouch_732-12.exeThe file is about 24 Mb in size. After downloading and installing it, I was able to calibrate the screen, with 25(!) calibration points. Accuracy is great now; not only in landscape, but also in portrait mode! Since I found no reference on this forum to the Wacom FEEL driver in combination with the X220 Tablet running on Windows 10, I thought it might be interesting to others in this forum. Cheers!

Hi I'm having some problems with some of the multitouch commands. For instance the scrolling to the end of the document, when scrolling with 3 fingers and the show open windows thingy with 4 fingers, similar to the mac "active corners". I keep on hitting these effects by mistake when handwritting in files with pdf annotator for example. On top of that, theres an option that logs you of, I haven't figured out the finger combination yet, but it happens a lot. How do I turn of some of the multitouch commands while keeping scrolling with two fingers and turning with two fingers. I only managed to turn of all at once. Or have you managed to link a lot of very different options, so its all or nothing, even though some things are good and some are useless?

Hi all,
This is a solution for this annoying problem, hitting so many pcīs, usually after Windows Vista upgrade to SP2, which makes the Mouse cursor arrow flicker like crazy.
I made this to a laptop Asus with Ati Radeon X2300 graphic card bundled.

Go to Execute and write msconfig, look after services panel and deactivate Ati External Event Utility. Close aplication after save the changes, click optionaly "donīt show this again", restart computer and thatīs done.
You may get a msconfig window notice, just click "donīt show this again", and close the window.

Wish you all the best

Was about to order the X220 Tablet today when I noticed that ThinkPad protection was not listed on the order screen. According to a rep, 3yr On-site + TPP is $429. This comes out to $333.41 for the TPP and 95.59 for the on-site. Does it make sense to pay that much? The cost of 3YR onsite + TPP on other systems is much lower. It is only 259.00 for the X220 (non-tablet), W520, and T420s. Why is the X220 Tablet TPP so much higher? Do they break that much more often?

Answer:Cost of ThinkPad Protection too high? It is $200 more on X220 tablet vs other TPs.

I called in to Lenovo to purchase this warranty and the product that the rep billed me for was 78Y1652. Since then, I've spoken with several people (mainly because Lenovo manages to screw up orders in every way possible) and none of them have said anything against attatching that item (which is for 3 year onsite + TPP) to my laptop, 4294-CTO. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?... is the link to the product.. though a few days ago (5/25/11) it was on sale for $201.75.. so if you can hold your breath until another sale then more power to you, however do note that Lenovo requires that if you are purchasing a TPP warranty, that the purchase be made within 90 days of system purchase. Edit: My original sales rep was completely wrong about the warranty. That is NOT a valid part number for a 3 year warranty + thinkpad protection for the x220 tablet. >.>

Hello,I've just bought my new tablet and, overall, I a very impressed with its features. One feature I thought was particularly cool was the fingerprint reader to log on. Sadly, the software didn't come with laptop and, when searching "fingerprint" in Start and scanning over the control panel, it was not there. I have read most of the discussios here concerning my problem, but found no answers and searched everywhere suggested. I then installed the driver from the lenovo site and got as far as the screen with a hand to register one of your fingerprints, clicked the thumb icon and it said that there was no such device detected on my laptop. I was hoping to get it working soon but if I can't find a solution it doesn't matter - It's not absolutely essential/urgent. I was just a little disappointed that the device did not work. Thanks in advance for any help, Doug.

hey DB-1618,welcome to the forums and for this, could you check at Device Manager and see if the fingerprint device is listed in it? Hello, Has anyone tried installation of a sierra wireless MC7750 card on a X220 tablet? I've gotten hold of a MC7750 and intend to install it on my X220 tablet and try it with Verizon 4G network. Thanks,Anand

Answer:Thinkpad X220 Tablet - Installation of sierra wire...

I have not tried it, but I can tell you that most likely it will not work in the default configuration.  Lenovo machines have a whitelist that checks to see if the WWAN card inserted into the machine is regonized and certified.  If the machine doesn't recognize the card it will display an 1804 error.  Since Lenovo doesn't yet sell these cards yet, it's unlikely that this card is on their whitelist. Some people modify their BIOSes to recognize cards that Lenovo hasn't put on their list yet.  I believe you can find such moded BIOSes here: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Removed-whitelist-removal-Lenovo-ThinkPad-x220-v1-21 or alternatively maybe in the forums in http://www.mydigitallife.info/ There may be newer versions of the BIOS in the same forum, but I haven't checked in a while. I've been waiting for months for Lenovo to support the MC7750, or another LTE card like it.  I've been told by several sales people that "it's right around the corner".  Pretty much hogwash so far.  I haven't gone the step of ordering one of these card yet hoping that Lenovo will officially support it soon.  Please post back though if you do end up moding your bios.  I'm curious to know how well it works.  Also read up on taping pin 20.  Some people say it's necessary in addition to moding the bios. Good luck.

Hi, Several days ago, when I booted my Thinkpad X220 tablet PC from hibernation, its monitor "freaked out": at the beginning it was blinking, afterwards it was just black unless I pressed CTR+ALT+DEL (then it showed pretty much normal screen), however, if I then chose any option or press ESC, the screen became black again. I tried to boot in a safe mode, some other stuff -- nothing worked. Eventually, I connected external monitor, and then the monitor of laptop suddenly recovered. Today I hibernated laptop again (unfortunately). And when I turned it on, the screen "freaked out" again. But at this time nothing, including external monitor, helped. Interesting thing, the internal monitor is able to show lank page in Firefox, however, then the page loads, the monitor becomes black. If I "turn off" blue color, then the monitor is working (however, it is a bit ugly). It is weird as when laptop boosts, the screen is generally blue. Any ideas what is going on with my laptop PC?Cheers, SK

Answer:Monitor problems after hibernation (Thinkpad X220 tablet PC)

Hello SK,

I would suggest you to update the monitor driver, display driver and BIOS.

Monitor driver can be download from the mentioned below web link.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/79oi26ww.exe

BIOS update can be download from the mentioned below web link.
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8duj14us.exe

This should resolve the issue for you.

I bought my tablet one months ago. Today, I pick up my tablet with my finger and the front glass cracked on the left side. but I also can draw and use it. Just the front glass was broken. I want to know what to do? Call for lennovo? Cause I am a student, I need my tablet to do some work, I want to know how long and how much to repair it. thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet X220 the upper glass of screen cracked a little

Hi sweetaaronm and welcome to the community,

You're probably going to have to call service to find out how much and how long it will take?  I'd do that anyway, just so you know.  It is going to be expensive.
Is there any computer repair shops locally that you trust?  I'd sit down with the phone book and make some calls.  You're going to have to know which screen you have so you can have them get the right one.

If Lenovo service has the screen in stock, the turnaround for the repair should be pretty fast.

Has anyone seen and/or solved the following problem:My recently purchased X220 Tablet ?Mouse? Left Button click stops working intermittently. Put the computer in sleep mode, then awaken it, and the button works again. Problem is not ?mouse? specific. The click function stops on all three ?mouse? devices:  TrackPoint, Touchpad and Touch screen. This does not impact the Right button; it works fine.Computer is running Windows 7 Professional SP 1.Problem is reminiscent of X61 Touch Screen I had where the Pen would stop working until it was put in sleep mode and awakened.  That went away eventually with a driver update.

Answer:X220 Tablet Right Mouse Button Stops working

I noticed this issue today on a x220 running windows xp. the tablet was in use and for about 1 minute the left click function stopped working, both from the built-in trackpad button and the other left click button. after about a minute it started working again.   During this time i could use the keyboard and the right-click without issue.  Anyone else seeing this or have any idea what to do about it?

Answer:thinkpad tablet x41 cursor problem

I have the same problem, and all of lenovo's support web page links are broken (page does not exist anymore), because I was going to update te BIOs if needed and go from there to fix this weird cursor issue. The mouse acts like it is going to the bottom corners (left and right) and either the start menu or the Date and Time dialog box will come up by itself. All other features and functions are working normally. This issue is intermittent - occasionally I can work along and the mouse responds as it should. At other times, I want to get out a hammer bacause I can't even navigate to a file or open a program at times since the mouse returns to the corners at an annoyingly fast rate. Hello all,

I have strange vertical oscillation of cursor when using tablet PEN.
It appears only near bottom of screen, windows task bar.

It seemed like some cause of screen lamp magnetic field, but didn't noticed that before.
I was trying to exchange tablet drivers but with no result.

Did anyone meet that strange behavior?

I don't have Satellite R20 but I use Portege M700 and I have noticed small cursor oscillation in tablet mode but it is nothing spectacular and it is not disturbing for me.

To be honest I don't see this as strange issue and believe it is nothing unusual by tablet PCs.

I solved this problem after reinstalling the driver the 3rd time. Not too sure why the problem is gone  however, a new problem surfaced (a less serious one). the mouse driver seems to be loaded quite late into the boot sequence, so after seeing my desktop, the cursor only appears after around 5-10 seconds. if i disable the touchpad in Device Manager, the cursor shows up immediately on startup (without the proper drivers loaded). guess it's a bug.

I just recently purchased a refurbished Thinkpad edge 15" with the intel 2.4 ghz processor 2 GB ram and 64 bit operating system.  Well aparently it wasnt actually "refurbished" because literally right out of the box it had problems.  Im not sure who inspects these but they didnt do a good job. The mouse cursor freezes ocassionally and the only way to move the cursor again is to click on the screen and then I can move it again, but even this doesnt work sometimes. Also the mouse cursor freezes more often when the computer has been running after an hour or so.  But I had my gateway and would have it on for 24 hours at a time and never once experienced this.  Please someone help me out on this. Thanks for the help in advance

Answer:Mouse cursor freezes on new Thinkpad Edge 15"

PS: The mouse cursor freezes while using the mouse pad, however if I use the trackpoint it never freezes.  So it must be some problem with the pad itself.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, and I sincerely apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, I did do a search, and could find nothing.

My Vista-running PC is having an issue where the cursor just turns into the "waiting" circle, the screen goes white (but you can still see what you were working on, just can't get to it), and the computer has to be re-started.

I have tried:

CTRL-ALT-DEL: nothing comes up.
I have run Spybot, Malware Bytes, Spyware Blaster, and Ad Aware, and they have detected nothing.
I have AVG Anti-Virus, and it has detected nothing.

This first started happening when the I'd come out of my screen saver, so I disabled that. When that didn't work, I turned off the power saver for the monitor. That actually worked for a few days, but now it's doing it all the time. I also, upon looking up other information, disabled the phone modem (since I don't need it anyway), but that didn't work.

My wife is very, VERY upset with this, and is of course blaming me, so I could really use any help offered. If more is needed from me, just let me know.

Vista also is up-to-date with all required service packs and anything else Microsoft has requested I update with.

Thank you all very, very much.

I just purchased a new G400s laptop with Windows 8. The issue is the touch screen continually gets a "phantom" mouse touch or click in the lower middle of the screen; always in the exact same spot. It will either be a small grey circle or a small rectangular grey box with a mouse pointer "shaking" inside.  It is as if the touch screen thinks that there is a "touch" or mouse click at this postion & the command cannot complete. This results in the "real mouse" pointer not being usable or very difficult to use as the "phantom" click is competing with the real mouse pointer. This issue will happen with only using the touch-pad or with a external mouse. It will happen with touch-pad disabled while using external mouse. If have tried to turn of tapping which seems to help but will not resolve completely. Eventaully the grey box disappears (command completes) but can take many minutes.  The grey box always returns.& basically makes the laptop unusable.  A re-boot will not clear the issue. I have not tried in safe mode, but I have googled this isseu enough & have found numeruos reports of this issue for Lenovo & many other manufacturers running Windows 8 with touch screens. The only soultion I see that works is to turn off touch. This is not an acceptable solution as I paid for the touch feature. Lenovo re-installed a few drivers (Intel VGA driver); no help. I re-installed the mouse/touchpad driver (ELan); no help. Lenovo is now blaming M... Read more

Got my TP Yoga a couple of days ago. I've run Windows update and the ThinkPad software update tool a couple of times. I did get an updated power management driver (1.67.04.04). I turned on the option in Windows 8.1 Control Panel Power Options to see Hibernate on the shutdown menu, and set the lid close and power button to Hibernate. But when I use Hibernate either on the shutdown menu or by closing the lid or using the power button, it only goes to sleep. As soon as I open the lid, it comes back on. Has anyone gotten Hibernation to work? I also had the cursor disappear on me a few minutes ago when I went from tent mode back to laptop mode. The keyboard activated, but not the touchpad or trackpoint. I'm sure they'll come back after a reboot, but as long as I'm posting my hibernation issue I thought I'd mention this one, too.

Answer:Can't hibernate ThinkPad Yoga 20CD033US, mouse cursor disappeared

I have this same issue with Hibernation. I wanted to try hibernation instead of sleep mode because I have noticed that I lose about 7% battery life when in sleep mode for about 8 hours. It refuses to Hibernate when closing the lid, only Sleep mode, even when selected in the settings. I have no idea if this laptop will actually last a full week without running out of battery if I don't use it for that time frame. I'm a bit concerned if there is something wrong with my Yoga since it doesn't seem to come close to lasting even 6 hours during mild usage. I am using the Energy Saver power management mode with nothing tweaked. That's my only real complaint so far in 2 weeks of ownership - kind of disappointing battery life for a new Haswell laptop. I have had no problems with the mouse cursor disappearing.

I have the most unbelievably annoying problem. I have the Thinkpad Yoga 11e, if I go to tablet mode the screen works as expected and the first time you do this upon a fresh boot, it will work properly. However, once you go back to laptop mode the mouse/keyboard are disabled and you can only use the touch screen. Occasionally, you can flip it back to tablet mode and the mouse/keyboard start working again (incorrect as well).  I tried a full system recovery, the problem still exists. The only solution I have found to fix this is usually to put the laptop to sleep, or to reboot. Some of the time it won't fix the issue and I have to just keep trying to eithe rreboot/sleep/wake it back up.  This has to be the worst problem I can possibly imagine having with a laptop like this. I only purchased it to use it in tablet and laptop mode, I switch it a lot, and it simply can't do it.  Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad 11e shuts off keyboard and mouse incorrectly when going from tablet to laptop and back

I am currently working with around 10 machines that have a similar issue to yours.  I am a Certified Lenovo Self Maintainer.  My issue so far is only related to machines that I have ordered and replaced a System board on for various other reasons.  IE:  A couple of them would not turn on or do anything and problem only occurred after replacing system board sent from lenovo. My exact issue which I can replicate on any machine I have replaced a system board is as follows. Computer turns on and allows me to update the Serial number using the Lenovo Hardware Maintenance disk.  After rebooting from updating the serial number windows will begin to load.  During loading you will get updating devices and then as soon as it gets about to the log in screen the computer will flip the screen 90 degrees like its in tablet mode and the keyboard and touch pad will no longer work.  This problem will persist as far as the keyboard and touchpad even in bios although the screen orientation is correct.  I am only able to get the keyboard and mouse to function again by shutting the machine off pulling the hard drive out and turning on then the keyboard and mouse will again function after shutting off again and putting the drive back in.  I have also tracked part of the problems to the I2C driver in that I did a complete fresh install of windows everything worked after installing all software except the touch screen and the... Hello all,I bought a "Thinkpad Yoga 20CD-0038GE" in December and everything worked perfectly until last week.Suddenly after boot up the mouse cursor disappeared when Windows showed up (no external mouse, I'm using trackpad/trackpoint). The mouse was completely gone, clicking also didn't help (the mouse cursor was not invisible or similar). Touching the display still works. I then installed all available Windows and Lenovo updates (Solution Center), but the bug was still there. Strangely enough what seems to bring the mouse back sometimes (!) is to switch to flight mode and then restart the system. But when turning flight mode off and restarting the system, the mouse ist gone again... I searched the forums but could only find tips with un- and reinstalling all kind of drivers, unfortunately no method worked for me. Today I made tabula rasa and restored Windows completely from scratch with the built-in recovery function. Gladly the mouse was back again and everything was fine at first sight. But as soon as I installed the obvious Windows Updates (dozens to be critical listed as it's normal for a recovered Windows installation) the bug was there again and my mouse was gone... ARGH! So this bug already ruined my last PowerPoint presentation and I would really love to find some help here. Thanks,Steve

Answer:Cursor Flickering in Windows 10

This happened to me today, and I finally managed to make it stop. For me it was the HP SimplePass; not sure if it's not compatible with 10 or if it was just malfunctioning. I couldn't end it from Task Manager because it would just restart itself. Eventually, I just went into the HP SimplePass program folder, hit ctrl+a, and delete. Some of the files couldn't be deleted since they were running, but as soon as I did this, my cursor stopped blinking...maybe not the most tech savvy way of dealing with it, but it worked.

http://www.asiatechtrade.com/runcore/runcore-v-msata.html I might get this but I'm not sure about the compatibility as certain X220's are having problems with the msata port..

Answer:Will this msata work with the X220 / X220 Tablet?

I was keeping an eye on those too, but I'm sure they won't work on the X220s that have the mSATA recognition problem. Also, I would like to know the mSATA speed on the X220. Is is 3Gbps (Sata II) or 6Gbps (Sata III)?

Hey folks, I've upgraded my X220 Tablet to W8 when it has been released. All is running fine. Okay, I deinstalled PC Doctor and several other Lenovo apps which are supported for W7 only but this has not been a lack for me. Since two days, after using the tablet functionality (touch + pen) the touchpad and trackpoint didn't work any more. Had that some time ago, when I suspended the machine in tablet-mode. Afterwards the touchpad and trackpoint were disabled. I could enable both by hitting FN+F8. But this shortcut doesn't work any more. Does anyone know, how to restore the FN+F8 shortcut? I found out the application behind the FN+F8 key can be found in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\UltraNav Utility\UNAVOSD.exe UPDATE: Driver version is already at 16.2.19.2. cheerskyoshiro

I recently bought a used Thinkpad 220 Tablet. It has a 500 MB hard drive and Windows 7. I would like to perform the free upgrade to Windows 10 as well as replace the hard drive with a SSD. I have a couple of questions: I went to the Windows 10 upgrade site and downloaded the 64 bit version and burnt it to a DVD. However, where do I find my registration key? Do I just use my Windows 7 one? If I go ahead and replace the hard drive (with the SSD), can I just go ahead and install Windows 10 - instead of having to copy everything over to it from the old hard drive (with Windows 7) first? That would be my preferred route. (However, will need the key). What about the IBM diagnostic partittion - what should I do in terms of this? It would be nice to be able to perform backups, or return to the original config. Any tips, thoughts, pointers, or otherwise much appreciated in advance. Thanks,Jon

Answer:X220 Tablet - install SSD then Windows 10 from DVD?

Hello and welcome,

The way I read the documentation:  run the upgrade first from within your running Windows 7.  That should activate Win 10 and the activation status will be recorded on the Microsoft servers.  Once that's done you can do a clean '10 install - either on your existing drive or on the new SSD and activation should be retrieved automatically from the server.

BTW, I've moved your post to the X tablet forum.

Hello,In January, I upgraded the hard drive in my X220 Tablet and installed Windows 8 to the new hard drive.  Since doing so, I've been having trouble with the Wi-Fi on the computer.  It does this thing from time to time (a few times a week) where the Wi-Fi just cuts out, and doesn't think any networks are available, although the networking adapter is enabled.  Usually I can fix things by disabling and enabling the networking adapter a few times, but I'm getting tired of having to do this.  The problem is entirely with the computer, and not with my network, as it will do this on number of different networks, and the problem is not with the networking components.   Has anyone else had similar issues?  Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it?

Hi,I'm not seeing X220 T listed by Lenovo in laptops-windows 10 compatibilty list...??? Is that right? Mine is a 3 years old system... I can't believe is not going to be possible to use Windows 10... Anyone has tried it?Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 support for X220 Tablet

Hello,

It may work fine with Windows 10, however, I don't believe its generation of CPU, IGP and chipset are supported by Intel for Windows 10, which means that Lenovo can't support them, either.  For what it is worth, I installed Windows 10 on a ThinkPad X61t and didn't notice any issues, and that has been out of support for a much longer time than your X220t.

That said, it could be that Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 drivers for the various bits of silicon inside your X220 tablet may work just fine under Windows 10, in which case you would be up and running.

The best suggestion I have is to make a thorough backup of your X220 and then try applying the Windows 10 Upgrade.  If it doesn't work, you will be able to wipe the drive and then reload your backup.

Regards,

I have a desktop that runs Windows 8.1. My x220 tablet runs Windows 7. I was thinking about getting a wacom bamboo tablet for my art in photoshop (which I make on my desktop... x220 isn't powerful enough for what I do in photoshop). Then I realized that my x220 tablet is kind of the same thing. Is there anyway I can connect my tablet to my desktop so that when I'm using photoshop, I can use the stylus on the tablet to control what I do? Many thanks in advance.

When I use the X220 as a laptop I can duplicate the display through my SmartBoard projector but when I use it as a tablet and it is docked I have to turn the tablet and dock 180 degrees so I am not writing upside down on the smartboard;  that means the dock has the cables coming out the front.  I can undock and plug everything into the X220 but the beauty of the dock is that I don't have to!

EDIT: In perhaps the most embarrassing moment to have asked for help in my entire life, I restarted my computer and everything works fine now.  I must not have restarted after one of the drivers was installed for some reason.  This topic can be locked. ---- Original Post: Hello, I am a digital artist so I rely on the hardiness of my X220's pen/stylus/digitizer for a lot of my laptop use.  This fall my laptop had a virus that required it to be reset to factory settings, and so I decided it would be a good time to upgrade to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 7) before installing any programs.  I now have Windows 8.1 and it is working fine; however, my pen is not being detected by my system.  My fingers are being detected on the touchscreen, so I know the touch screen works.  I did not try my pen since resetting to factory settings, so I do not know whether it worked before I upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I would assume the issue is a missing driver, but I could not find the right driver on Lenovo's website and the digitizer update utility produces an error when I click "Update."  I was wondering if anybody had an idea for what I could do.  I would assume I am not the first person to try updating to Windows 8.1 on an X220, nor the first to reset an X220 to factory settings.  However, a brief search of Lenovo's support forums and of the internet has shown no solutions to my particular problem. Here are drivers I am us... I am experiencing very poor Virtual PC performance on my new X200 tablet. I have tried existing VHDs as well as brand news Windows 7 VM's created on the machine. VHD's that launch in 30 seconds on my two year old Toshiba tablet take over a minute to launch on my new X220 tablet. That Toshiba Portege M780 rates multiple points lower on the Windows Experience Index than the X220t. Lenovo loads more drivers and services on their out-of-box machine than I have every seen, so I can't help wondering if there is some driver or application impacting VM performance. I did uninstall and reinstall the latest version of RapidBoot (saw that post), but that didn't help the VM performance. Anyone else out there run VMs on their X220t? Thanks, C.C.

Answer:Virtual PC Performance on Windows 7 64-bit X220 Tablet

The Virtual PC (Windows Virtual PC) version for Windows 7 is much worse than older Virtual PC 2007. Have you enabled HW virtualization in BIOS ? It is required for Windows 7 host system. I've used Virtual PC 2007 on Windows XP host many years but since it is not supported by Windows 7 host anymore, I've moved to VirtualBox and haven't found any problem yet.

I replied in a another post also, sorry for that.. But I hope this post get's more attention. I just bought a x220 Tablet but my touchscreen doesn't work at all. I bought de computer with  Windows 10 installed on it. I just used WacomhardwareCheck and it gave the message: 'your hardware does not appear input capabilities and is not currently supported by the Wacom FEEL driver'.So, does this mean my touchscreen is broken and doesn't work? Is there a hardware problem? How can I see if the touchscreen is registered by Windows?it would be great if someone could help me to get this thing working... I think the touchscreen makes this an interesting machine...

I'm having trouble getting speedstep to work on my X220t running Win8 Pro x64. Below some settings that may be relevant. I'm hoping someone has been able to get this to work, because at the moment I only get 2h45min battery life with the Core i7-2620M always at 2.7GHz.  - I have BIOS 1.29- In the BIOS SpeedStep is set to be active when on battery- I have installed the latest Intel Chipset drivers (Version 9.3.0.1021)- I have installed the latest power management driver (1.66.0.22)- With the system on battery with low activity the CPU remains at 2.69GHz- In windows power options (Advanced) I have 'system cooling policy' set to 'passive'. Oddly in Windows power setings I don't see any explicit settings for throttling there. I recall that I used to be able to specify a minimum processor state. Maybe that points to the problem?  Has anyone seen the CPU speed change in Win8, and if so, any settings or drivers I need to change?   Image below of the CPU state while on battery and with low activity.

Answer:Speedstep not working on X220 tablet with Windows 8

Well shoot, after spending an hour installing drivers and searching online, the last clue in my post was the one that did it. I looked for 'minimum processor state' and found this page:  http://goo.gl/MHG8I Conclusion:  the Windows 8 System info page and the new task manager do not always display the actual clock speed. For comparison, on my Ativ Atom Z2760 system the Task Manager correctly shows the actual current clock speed (and it's varying a lot), while the System Info page shows the max clock speed of 1.8GHz. For this X220t on the other hand the Task manager display is stuck showing the max CPU speed only. Maybe a firmware update will fix this, not sure.  To see the actual speed on the X220t install CPU-Z, see screenshot below. In the screenshot the speed shows as less than 800MHz at the moment, and I see it ramp up when I do something CPU intensive.  Hope this helps someone else. It doesn't explain why the battery life is so bad though. Maybe the battery is just dying..

Hello everyone! I have a problem that I suspect some of you might have experienced. I have an Acer Aspire V5-573G for a little more than a year now. Yesterday my LCD started flickering with grey and white colours. It normally gets back to normal as soon as I gently tap the screen. Half an hour ago the screen gone totally crazy as you can see in the image below. The taps didn't help anymore and I had to shut down and restart in order to get it back to normal again.  So, how is this problem caused? I have seen many people writing about it on other ACER models. The opinions on what is wrong differ (backlight, cable, graphics, bios). Do you know what is really causing this and how it can be fixed? I would really appreciate some info, because this laptop is vital for my work.  Thanks in advance!

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 °CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 °C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 °C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

I have a new X220 Tablet, and the Pen and Tablet functions work perfectly out of the box as long as the unit is on the Ultrabase. As soon as I remove from the Ultrabase (or boot while not connected), the Pen & Tablet functions stop working. Conversely, if I dock the X220, the Pen & Tablet functions begin working again. The behavior is the same regardless of whether I have an external monitor attached or not. Any thoughts?
