x230 Win 7 Sleep / Wake / Boot issues

Question: x230 Win 7 Sleep / Wake / Boot issues

Hi! Been pulling my hair out for a week with this. I am an advanced user who is totally stumped. This is a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional x64 with all drivers installed from lenovo.com x230 3435-22U having issues where if it goes to sleep. When the machine wakes up, SOMETIMES it allows me to move the mouse with no issues and continue to use the PC. SOMETIMES, I have to use the touchscreen to move the mouse and then can continue using the trackpad. and SOMETIMES, it is totally frozen at the log-in screen and then powers down suddenly. Hardware diagnostics all check out just fine. I have also switched SATA in BIOS to 'compatibility' and upgraded the BIOS as recommended. I have also disabled AMT inside the BIOS. I'm really stumped here. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am looking to buy either an X220 or X230 Thinkpad laptop and have been reading the forums here for information about wake from sleep issues for these two machines. I have found a lot on the X220 - seems to be a common problem, so I am now thinking that isn't going to be my choice. My questions for those who may have experienced this with an X230: -is the wake from sleep a common issue with the X230 laptop?-is this more of a SSD issue than a regular HHD?-is this related to the amount of RAM installed?-is this more of a Win 7 issue? If so, any version that is more susceptible? I had an HP laptop that finally was unusable due to this issue and want to avoid that with a new laptop. I really like the features and size of the x230 - and that I can still get Win 7. Any input on how often the X230 has this type of issue - and any solutions that have worked - would be greatly appreciated, as I really am reluctant to have history repeated with this wake from sleep issue. Thanks!HL

Hello, My X230 wake up alone after put into sleep! This is a big issue when you store it into a case, since it will heat a lot due to the lack of ventilation. I initially thought this could be related to transportation (wag and jumping), but I've seen it happen even in a complete stationary position. Any ideias on the roote cause and how to solve it, please? Thks

Answer:X230 - Wake up alone from Sleep

Hi, bsantos9

This could be due to Windows Update or some other application having a setting that tells the machine to come back on. I found this article on Microsoft's website that goes into more detail on how to check for this and how to disable it, if this is the case.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I have read in the forums that there are some issues with waking the X230 - and other laptops - from sleep mode. So far, I don't see a solution. Up until now, when I use the Fn-F4 combination to put my x230 to sleep and close the lid, it wakes when the lid is opened. It also seems to wake using the Fn key if I put it to sleep and don't close the lid. But now there are two sceanrios where I can't get it to wake. If I leave it on and it goes into sleep mode by itself, the Fn key will not always wake it. New this morning, it wouldn't wake even though I had put it to sleep properly. Fn key didn't work, closing and opening the lid didn't work. This doesn't  happen all of the time - so that is the mystery, but it does seem to happen when it had been asleep overnight or for a longer amount of time. I am wondering if maybe it is something running in the background that is hanging it when it sleeps on its own, but this new issue of it not waking even when I had put it to sleep manually is a bigger concern. I usually make a point to put it to sleep - but if I walk away and leave it and it sleeps on its own - that  had been when I can't wake it - now there are two scenarios, and in each case, I need to restart it. I have also noticed that sometimes, it will have the sleep icon glowing on the lid, but after I open the lid and it doesn't wake, the battery charge light is also lit - even if it is not on charge, and wasn't lit before. Today the batter... Read more

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping you guys can help me, seeing as your the number 1 Google search and all on Win 7 threads!

I've been happily working away with Vista x64 Home Premium no problems and my Hauppage HVR2200 worked awsomely and SOOO reliably. My power was less reliable than my recordings!

However, now having Dual-booted our lovely friend Win 7 x64 first Beta and now RC 1(7100), I'm having some issues similar to those I used to have on my old computer running Vista x86 Home Premium:

1) Won't come out of sleep by the mouse or keyboard. I'm running them through a Hub but even before they were through the hub it didn't work. I haven't got any software installed for either and am going to give it a go, but it's never worked before. I've also started running MST, which I had to use on my old computer to get Vista to come out of sleep for recordings. Hasn't seemed to have worked yet.

2) And more distressingly, IF it wakes up for a Media Centre recording, or update or whatever, 9/10 times it blue screens or locks up when it does, or after its finished and trying to go back to sleep. I have several .dmp files and plenty of events, but all I've been able to narrow it down to are: I have an external hard drive that I run Roboform password manager and my email off, so its constantly being read- apparently USB devices like that can cause some trouble. OR It's a driver issue, quite possibly either the Intel RAID driver (RAID 0) I'm using or my LAN driver (Realtek RTL8168D).

Answer:Win 7 Sleep and Wake Issues

Your description of the problem implies an ACPI advanced function compatibility issue. There are two parts to this problem, the BIOS and the chipset driver. It appears you have the most recent BIOS for your motherboard. Make sure you also have the most recent chipset driver for your motherboard.

Your motherboard supports HPET (high precision event timing), which is likely the cause of your HAL errors, particularly if disabled (since your motherboard will report that it is HPET capable and Vista and 7 like to use it if possible). Also, if you are running the OS as 64-bit, make sure the HPET mode is set to 64-bit. Lastly, I would disable PME to be on the safe side. For debugging purposes, ensure the suspend type is S1.

I have a computer running 7 Pro 64x that won't wake from sleep when the keyboard or mouse is pressed. I checked in device manager and both are selected to wake the computer and not allow it to power down the devices. They are both PS/2. The only way to wake the computer is by hitting the power button on the case. I went into the advanced power settings and disabled the hybrid sleep and made sure it was set to never hibernate. Nothing has worked so far, ideas?

Yes, forget Sleep and Hibernate, they are more trouble than they are worth.

Hi,
I bought this XPS 13 a month ago and the experience was bad.  After updating firmware and drivers almost everything is better but some issues with the sleep/wakeup and wifi signal are still presents.

My model is XPS 13 2-1  9365,   i7-7Y75 , 16GB LPDDR3 - 1866MHz,   InfinityEdge de 13.3" QHD+, WIndows 10 PRO 64-bits

sleep/wakeup: laptop is not going to sleep when It is connected to AC when I close or push the windows command. I see a blink, but the laptop awake in the login screen.  Sometime sleep fine but i need the push the power button for  long time for a hardreset.

Wifi:  Some times signal is poor, and ping to the router has high latency and package lost. It usually happens after waking up.   I fix it by turning off and on wifi.
From other laptop and phone in the same location, the signal is optimal and latency is < 5.

I tried http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19963459 unsuccessfully

Any ideas that can help me?

Regards.

Hi all I have a G500 that isnt even a year old and i am having issues with it. It worked fine for months and im convinced this has something to do with a windows 8.1 update. I used to just shut the lid when i had stopped using my computer and when i opened the lid again, it would just work. Now when i open the lid, nothing happens. I often have to press the power button to get it to wake up and sometimes i have to power it off on the power button then back on so that it shows the lenovo spash screen. The system is an intel pentium 2020m  2.4ghz with 4gb ram and win 8.1 64 bit. power settings are set for balanced/default thanks

S1 Yoga: Windows 10 - Sleep/Wake Problems - lenovoHi everyone,Having an issue with his ThinkPad S1 Yoga ever since he upgraded to Windows 10 back in July. I am now running the most current update that was released last month and I am still having issues with Sleeping and Waking the Notebook. All the drivers are up-to-date and it's running the most current biosWhen shutting down the computer it will not fully shut down, resulting in the battery draining and the little red light on the lid will blink very quickly - The only fix is to hard reset the PC by holding the power button. When the Notebook is on battery power and goes to sleep for being idle - it cannot be woken up and the only way to get the PC to work again is to hard reset again - meaning he loses all his work.I purchased this from the Microsoft store in February 2015. I brought it in for service and was told that this unit will not run windows 10 and had to to roll it back to Windows 8.1. I am fried inform them that I was having the same problem at times in windows 8.1. I also checked Lenovo website and this model has been tested to run windows 10

Answer:Think pad Yoga S1 sleep / wake issues

Hi

I have some other model, a TP Y 14 and it camed with Windows 8.1 and took me some time to stabilize it to Windows 10.
The trick for me was to run into a Driver Update Rampage... If you feel confortable updating the driver of you machine I can suggest you this tips.

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

This will be the Lenovo supported drivers, but if you want to look for other update drivers directly from the manufacturer (AS IS) you can try:
5) Depending on the machine chipset/processor, you can try Intel Driver Update Utility, or AMD Update Utility.
6) I also like to use DriverEasy, which offers a a decent driver update recognition for free, but also tries to sell you the full version.

Just be warned that the drivers that are not from the Lenovo support site are "AS IS" and under your own risk, I install them since I'm confortable installing, and un-installing Windows drivers, remember that a wrong driver may turn up Windows un-usable.

Sorry that it is not a better answer but sometimes drivers update do help if there is a software issue.

Regards

I have a brand new X1 Carbon 3rd Gen laptop.  Am having intermittent (3 to 4x daily) wake-up-from-sleep issues.  When my screen is closed and I reopen it to continue working, the green light on the power button does not light up and no buttons will wake up the laptop so I hard-press the power button, which resets everything.  Called many times for support and was asked to return it for an exchange.  Just received my second laptop and it is behaving exactly the same.  I've done a ton of on-line research and tried a lot of things, including changing settings under power management.  What am I doing wrong??

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

Hi All,

I've already had one PC problem solved via this forum since upgrading to windows 10 and hoping I can get some help with a few more!

1. My PC no longer shuts down. It starts to shut down but then never turns off. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. Really weird.

2. When my PC goes into sleep mode it will no longer wake up. I've pressed every button on the keyboard but nothing wakes it up. The only way to get it back on is to hold down the power button to switch it off, then switch it back on again.

3. Now that Edge has replaced Explorer, I'm having trouble with some websites and also there's an issue with Java. Windows 10 removed Explorer but when I've tried to download it I get the message:
Looking for Internet Explorer? You're in the right place, but Internet Explorer requires a Windows PC.
Well, I do have a Windows PC!

Windows 10 is so annoying that I hate my laptop now. For the first time ever, I'm thinking of going with Apple.

Please help!

Thanks

Answer:Win 10 - Explorer issues + PC won't shut down or wake from sleep mode

1. My PC no longer shuts down. It starts to shut down but then never turns off. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. Really weird.

This indicates that there's some background process got hung and cannot be terminated so Windows is waiting.

2. When my PC goes into sleep mode it will no longer wake up. I've pressed every button on the keyboard but nothing wakes it up. The only way to get it back on is to hold down the power button to switch it off, then switch it back on again.

There might be options in your BIOS that you can enable to use "Any key", "None", Define A Key etc... to wake the computer up.
Check that out under Power Management.

3. Now that Edge has replaced Explorer, I'm having trouble with some websites and also there's an issue with Java. Windows 10 removed Explorer

Windows 10 did not remove Explorer.
It's either in : "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
Or: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
If it's not in the above folders then you need to turn it on from "Programs and Features" as shown below:

Hello,I am having a lot of issues with my new XPS 13. The computer is not going to sleep after having the laptop lid closed, it just burns through its power supply. I have checked all setting and it should not be doing this.
Also, I am having wake up issues sometimes when I close it and open it up again within a short frame of time, say, 5-10 minutes. The screen will remain black and I will have to restart the machine.
Is there a patch or driver I can install to resolve this? This is really frustrating from such a high-end machine, opening and closing should be the least of my concerns...

Thanks,

THV

Answer:Sleep Issues and Wake Up Issues-xps 13

Hi THV,
What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system?
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine.
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1n3X2po - enter the service tag and download the BIOS, update and restart the machine and check.
Reinstall the chipset drivers and the video drivers from the vendor site - intel.com or geforce.com (if applicable)
Create a new local admin account and check.
If you are unable to find the required drivers and relevant info, then provide the exact system model and the OS installed on the machine and I can provide the right links.
Keep us updated.

E7470 with the latest BIOS and latest drivers for everything else.TPM version is 2.0.
Put the computer to sleep (close lid) and try to use fingerprint to log in works for a while. After about 5-10 sleep/wake, the fingerprint stops working and Windows reports 'Something has gone wrong." Windows 10 reports in the Event Viewer:
Log: SystemSource: TPMEvent ID: 14The device driver for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) encountered a non-recoverable error in the TPM hardware, which prevents TPM services (such as data encryption) from being used. For further help, please contact the computer manufacturer.
Only way I have found to fix this is a reboot. Would like to see if there is a TPM firmware upgrade or a new driver that fixes this. Sort of annoying to reboot just for the sake of rebooting....I keep a lot of applications running.
Is there a Dell TPM driver for this? It is using the Microsoft driver 10.0.14366.0 dated 6/21/2006. I can't find one on the Dell support site.

Answer:E7470 - Windows 10 + fingerprint = issues with TPM after a few sleep/wake cycles

Hi MARK.VALPREDA,
Are you using Windows Hello to login?
If you have already updated the BIOS, then reinstall the chipset drivers and the security drivers - http://dell.to/28Z4Fzh - ControlVault 2 driver and firmware and you could also try reinstalling the TPM 2.0 update.

I have a Dell Dimension E310 running Windows 7. I upgraded to Win7 about 5 months ago and then added a video card about 2 months ago. About the time I added the video card (NVIDIA GForce 8400 GS), my Dell stopped coming out of sleep mode. I have to hard power down and then I can restart. Only recently I've noticed that even when I shut down and let the machine sit for a few hours, it behaves the same when I push the power button as it does when I try to bring it out of sleep. Here is what happens in both cases (trying to come out of sleep or trying to start after shut down):

Power comes on to the computer (the fan starts, the lights on the box come on), however I don't hear the disk drive spin and the monitor doesn't wake up. If I hard power down and then re-power on, everything works just fine.

I have NOT upgraded my power supply and I guess the video card may be drawing more power. Could this be it? Could there be a capacitor that needs to have some charge to get things started and that is why it works on the second start, but not the first start? Or is this a bad hypothesis? Any suggestions out there?

Thanks.

I am unable to boot or wake up my Studio 1558 laptop. Here is everything that may be relevant to the issue.

I upgraded from Win7 to Win10 a few months ago.
The only issue I had after the upgrade was that coming out of sleep mode required a reboot a few times (but not every time).
About two weeks ago I put the computer in Sleep mode.
When I pressed power to wake it up:

The keyboard lit up
I hear the fan start
I hear the optical drive engage
I get a black screen.
I do not hear any beeps.

Pressing the power button again immediately shuts everything down.

Here is what I've tried to get a response:

Removed battery and AC then held down power button to discharge. Result: nothing.
Pressed Fn+F1 with an external monitor attached. Result: nothing.
Pressed D while powering. Result: Screen flashed different colors but didn't boot.
Pressed Fn+F5 while powering: Result: nothing
Created a Windows10 installation CD (on another computer) and tried to reboot so I could run Repair your computer. Result: nothing except now...

I can't eject the CD from the optical drive
Pressing D no longer flashes the screen

So I've tried everything I can find. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm new to sevenforums and would appreciate the help of some of you. I have updated my user profile with all of the details and specs of my system that is having my issue.

Recently, my computer will not wake up from sleep mode. Once it enters sleep mode, the only way to get it functioning again is to hold the power button, completely shut it off, and then boot my system back up.

It appears as if everything starts back up once I open the lid or press the power button to wake it up, but the screen never turns back on. The fan starts up, the backlit keyboard lights up, the leds all blink, but nothing I try will turn the screen back on forcing me to press and hold the power button for a complete shut down.

I have reinstalled the latest Intel HD Graphics driver as well as the latest NVIDIA graphics driver (both the stable and beta release).

I do not get a blue screen or any sort of error. Upon the restart, I am not prompted with any error from windows or any signs of the forced shut down. I have been messing with this issue for a few days now and am asking for some help from the community here at sevenforums. If you need any additional info let me know.

Thanks.

Hi,

I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 and I am having an issue where my computer goes into sleep mode, fails to wake from sleep, strangely resumes its state once I do a cold restart, and then after restarting again, refuses to boot.

Here is what's happening step-by-step:
Computer goes to sleep based on the time set in the Balance Power options scheme. Fine. Often, computer wakes up perfectly fine from moving the mouse or pressing a key. Fine. Very occasionally however, upon waking up the computer, the lights, keyboard lights, fans and everything else except for the display comes on. I am forced to do a cold shutdown by pressing the reset button. Upon booting up, Windows displays "Restarting Windows" rather than "Starting Windows" and resumes its state when it went to sleep. Strange but OK. Everything seems to work normally. The problems come in when I then do a shutdown or restart after it has resumed from the cold shutdown. The computer shuts down perfectly fine but during the next boot, freezes right during the animation of the windows logo and immediately restarts the computer and launches into the DOS-looking prompt asking whether I want to do a Startup Repair because the computer failed to boot.

I have tried Startup Repair from HD and from the Windows disc and neither have done anything. I am usually forced to just reformat everything and start anew. This problem recently started occurring after I installed an Intel X-25m 120GB ssd and put th... Read more

Answer:Windows fails to wake from sleep, then corrupts boot

Hi,

I just recently got hit with a similiar problem, it unfortunately resulted in a corrupted BIOS that is unrepairable, it ends up locked in a low power state. There is no one single reason why Windows fails to wake up, and it's kind of a common problem. From the research I've put into it, hardware and the version of Windows does not matter. You'll either suffer from it, or you won't. My recommendation would be to disable both your display and PC sleep settings, and stick to manually shutting down and a screensaver to completely avoid it before any possible hardware damage is inflicted, and until there is more information available on it. The CPU, mobo and PSU are the most likely to become damaged.

If you still wish to use Sleep, make sure all your drivers are up to date, along with Windows, might make a small difference.

If you have another system available to you, or are able to borrow a mates, go ahead and use it to test your hardware for faults incase your situation is hardware based, and not failed coding on Microsoft's part. Also on that note, try removing your SSD for a week or two (or however long it usually takes before your system decides to sleep in) and see if it solves it, and post back with results.

I would still keep an eye on here, no less, incase a solution comes to light. Go ahead and do some Google searches on the issue, the plethora of possible fixes people have tried may work for you.

If possible, can you recall anything else you have ... Read more

Our machines, when they sleep, then try and wake up again, get a "no boot device found" error.  reboot, it goes into diagnstics.  Reboot again, it goes into attempting bootp. Reboot again, it starts windows 10 normally. I have turned off all os options with regards to sleep (high power power mode, turned off hybrid sleep, turned off "turn off hard drive after" etc..._)  all to no avail. Any ideas?  Thanks update: found we had a slightly older bios, so I'mgoing to see if that helps (.012 vs.014)

I have an X230 running Windows 8 and an Ultrabase 3 with DVD writer.  Windows is fully patched by System Update and Windows update.  I have two issues: 1. When docked, I just get the ThinkPad logo onscreen, the laptop will not continue booting until it is undocked.2. When Booted, the keyboard and mouse plugged into the dock don't work until the laptop is undocked then docked again. Both these are intermittent and I haven't established the pattern yet so I can't reproduce them on demand. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:X230 and ultrabase boot issues

I've had similar issues. But have found that if I remove the DVD drive from the Ultrabase 3 everything works as it should.

I have a c200 425 3gu all-in-one that has been very frustrating for 2 issues.   Since I've had it: 1.  On booting the computer, the screen is black.  I have to put it in sleep mode using fn/pc key, then once the power button is flashing (which sometimes takes several fn/pc hold downs), i think push the power button briefly.   Then the monitor display led turns on showing the monitor has been switched off.  Then I push the monitor power button and I have display.  If I put it to sleep instead of turning off computer, it does the same thing.    I have waded around the Lenovo support site until I feel like puking.   There must be a simple fix and it must be a problem on more than just my machine.   Very frustrating.     2. Slow.   I have DSL, which isn't great but i regularly get 3MB download.   On my Dell laptop using a wireless connection, I have this speed.   On my bluray player I have this speed, again a wireless.   But on the C200, I have half the speed, whether wired or wireless.   I've turned off all virus and malware software, deleted all uncessary programs - plenty of hard drive space.   There is no gaming software or any fancy software.   This machine is just used for web surfing.   1GB Ram.   This thing should be faster.  Any ideas?

Answer:No Display on Boot unless put in to sleep, wake then turn on monitor switch Problem All-in-One C200

hi Lews,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

Regarading your questions, try to:

1. Reboot the computer in Safe Mode . If the problem doesn't occur, open Device Manager (click Start > Device Manager) and under Display Adapters, uninstall the display driver (this can be an Intel GMA3150 or Nvidia G305M). To reboot into normal mode, open msconfig and under General Tab, set it to Normal Startup and observe.

If the issue persists, but can hear something on the background, there's a possible short on the function board (this is the chip that controls the buttons at the lower right side of the screen) and you will need to contact Lenovo support for service. Support phone list here.
2. For slow Wifi, If you have the Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter and running Windows 7, you can try to:
a. Update your wireless card driver to v10.0.0.75, get it here.
b. Depending on your brand of router, make sure you disable WMM (Wireless Multimedia) and WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
c. Use WPA/WPA2-PSK TKIP or AES encryption.
d. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz), try to use only 2.4Ghz band.
e. After applying steps a-d, try running a speedtest again via www.speedtest.net

Let me know your findings.

Cheers.

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

It ba... Read more

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

Hi, AlbiApfelsaft

I would recommend making sure that your BIOS and all the drivers on your system are up to date and seeing if that helps. These errors could be the result of driver conflicts, so updating them may solve the issue. All updates for your system can be found here.

Best,
Adam

I purchased a new X230 tablet in August 2013.  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, Office 2010 Pro, and all updates, Microsoft and Lenovo have been applied.  I have, or at least I believe I have, shut off the option of the screen dimming or the machine sleeping in battery mode and while plugged in.  I've noticed this since I first purchased the unit but haven't used it in tablet mode enough to worry about searching out a solution until now. My problem is when put into tablet mode, typically running OneNote, but I've also seen it occur with just the default windows screen up, after a few minutes of inactivity, the screen goes black and I've not been able to wake it back up and am forced to perform a hard shut down. I sure hope there is an easy fix for this.

Oh, and I have the Gorilla glass outdoor screen model and all power management functions in the Bios are shut off. Please help, as right now tablet mode is essentially worthless as the black screen now is appearing right in the middle of writing with the stylus.  After a couple hard shut downs, the Synaptics drivers appear to be blown away and the NavPoint stops working and must have the drivers reinstalled.  Please help.....I'm missing my tablet functionality!!!  Please help.

I have an issue with the sleep function. The computer does not awake from sleep. When I try to do it, it behaves as if it was waking, but it never ends and there is only a black screen; the mouse and keyboard are inoperative. The only thing possible to do is a hard reboot. When it boots, it shows a notice with a minute report (in the zip file) usually saying there was a blue screen, but I NEVER see any blue screen at all.

I know the power configuration is OK because I have always used the same scheme. A powercfg ?energy report shows several errors and warnings. They refer to USB and PCI (vendor 1002=ATI motherboard), but I don?t know how to repair them.

I downloaded the drivers downloader from Rrecipester.org and downloaded and installed the drivers. They are all Broadcom Corporation signed, the brand of my USB Bluetoth attachment. I rebooted after installing, as recommended. Run powercfg ?energy again and got the same report issues (in the zip file). I don?t think the processor utilization warnings to be very important because they are low and sporadic picks. It has been like this for some time now, so I don?t have a restore point. Can someone help and tell me what I can do so solve this issue, please?

Files uploaded in the attached zip:
. Windows warning after reboot
. Windows dump and xml files (2 = 1 each)
. Powercfg -energy report
I wanted to correct the thread title, but was unable to do it. Maybe someone else can do it.

Quite confident it's a driver issue, it will be very difficult to troubleshoot from the one included dump file though as it's incomplete and inconclusive.

Howdy all,

I recently loaded W10 onto my computer. I completed a clean install. My computer is a HP-580t, I7, running a ssd hard drive. Motherboard is from Pegatron Corporation - IPMTB-TK. Legacy bios.

Issues: When I shut down the computer, no matter what method it just reboots, after days of research I'm left scratching me head. Also, I can not wake up from sleep mode.
Things I have tried: Complete a fresh install of W10, Checked bios for updates, drivers for updates. Tweaked my power settings just about every way you can think about. Tried registry tweaks. Disabled drivers one at a time. Tried different bios settings. Tried and changed just about every setting in device manager. Ran windows trouble shooter. Checked my boot log. Looking for any fresh ideas I can try.

The only change I made is going from an hdd to ssd recently.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:W10 shutdown/sleep/re-boot issues

Update, After countless searches in google with no luck I was able to fix the issue. For those of you having issues like the above this fixed all my errors. Go to power option / and change from Balanced to High performance. Go to advance / allow wake timers and set to enable, USB selective spend to Enabled. Enable adaptive brightness to Off. Went to my SSD power site and looked at their power recommendations and made those changes. You will have to look at your specific make.

This is driving me crazy! I have an X220 with Windows 8 and UEFI boot installed. It all started when I first installed Windows 8 a few months ago which required me to update my BIOS to the latest version. The installation process often got stuck when booting from the Installation CD (the round circle stopped spinning, the display was at full brightness). Eventually I managed to boot into the Installer (when the boot logo doesn't get stuck, the display is then dimmed to minimum). I was quite happy to have a superfast lightweight OS which booted in an instant.. When suddenly it started to get stuck when booting (same issue with the boot logo not spinning anymore). This happens quite randomly, but I often manage to boot (maybe 2-3 times a week, I don't boot often though..). Now, the booting hangs are less of an issue for me but more often that that it fails to resume from sleep. The LEDs flash and then it instantly drops to sleep mode again (well at least the sleep/moon LED is active). This happens quite often as I sleep/resume up to 5-10 times a day (changing lecture rooms, meeting rooms, save battery when the lectures are boring, ...) Now after researching and spending hours in debugging this issue, it seems that I'm not the only one having this (or a similar) issue, but often without any definitive solution being specified. This is what I have already tried:* Upgrade BIOS and SSD firmware to latest* Install/update latest drivers* Mess around with BIOS opti... Answer:X220 resume from sleep and boot issues

Hi, Fabio

If you haven't already, I would try doing a refresh of Windows 8. This is a function new to Windows 8 that will repair and refresh the operating system without affecting files. It may be able to find this problem and fix it. To do this, open the Charms Bar, and select Settings. At the bottom of this window, you will see something that says Change PC Settings. It doesn't look like a link, but it is. From here, go to General and scroll all the way to the bottom to find Refresh.

Hope it helps,Adam

HP 8540w laptop, W10 up to date (14393-693), power config high performance, shutdown on lid close, sleep on power button, no devices wake computer except mouse and keyboard.
Started with two issues:
1; Computer restarts immediately after a shutdown or sleep command. The only way to shutdown was holding power button. I seemed to fix that problem by turning off fast start option.
2; Now, I click sleep or push power button, screen turns off but computer does not sleep.
3; When shutting down, next reboot gives a blue screen message that windows didn't load properly. If I click "Restart my PC" it starts OK. If I click start menu Restart it reboots OK. If I close the lid (shutdown) then cold boot, it is fine. Only when I do a shutdown via the start menu does it not load right.

Answer:sleep/shutdown/cold boot issues

at command line prompt(admin)

powercfg -a

shows what sleep states your computer thinks are available

powercfg -requests

reports what devices won't allow sleep

for your next shutdown from start menu hold the shift key down and click shutdown. See if you get blue screen on next start up.

Does blue screen mention driver or library involved (sys or dll). Are you getting error code?

My x230 has developed problems sleeping and resuming from sleep. These problems are new and remain after a clean install, so I think it may be a hardware issue. Symptoms: 1) Laptop doesn't sleep properly. I notice this because of the battery drain, even though the "sleep" led is on 2) Laptop doesn't wake. The power led blinks, but pressing it has no effect.  I have to press and hold the power button to force a hard off, then press it again to turn on. Like I said I've never had these problems in the many years I've had this laptop, so I assume some hardware part has failed. The question is which?

Answer:x230 - Does not resume from sleep

I have the same problem with my 1 yr old X1 Carbon Thinkpad. It seems like the computer is on, but the screen is blank. The only option I have at that point is a "hard reboot."

Good morning! I've been having the problem of my new X230 waking from sleep for seemingly no reason. Thanks to responses here, I have narrowed it down to the USB mouse, I think. I would appreciate it if someone could give me info on the steps to take to stop this behavior. I have set the mouse properties NOT to wake the computer and also changed it in the power management, but the behavior still happens. Do I need a complete restert to have these settings take effect? Is there anything else to try - a driver or using a different USB port? Right now if I put the computer to sleep and turn off the mouse it is fine - if I turn the mouse on and move it before I wake the computer - the mouse movement wakes it. This is a brand new X230, Win 7. Thanks!Lily

Howdy folks - have an X230 (2.51 BIOS) and a Mini Dock Plus 3 + USB 3.0, running Windows 7 64-bit. If I leave this laptop in sleep mode overnight, the USB controllers (EHCI/XHCI) seem to disappear on resume in the morning.  Dock USB ports are gone as well as the ports on the side of the laptop.  Display works just fine, dock appears to be seated properly, etc. If the sleep period is shorter than "overnight" - haven't determined exactly how long yet, but say, entering sleep mode and resuming an hour later - the bug doesn't occur. If the laptop enters S4 / hibernate mode from sleep overnight, and *then* resumes, the bug also never occurs (presumably you've power-cycled the affected component). It seems almost exactly like this problem:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1116525  I haven't spotted anything obvious in my Windows 7 'System' event log, but might need to enable some kind of debugging somewhere to crank up the log level...

Hi, rgiles

Does this issue only occur when the computer is in the docking station? If you haven't already, try leaving your computer out of the docking station overnight if possible and see what the result is.

New TP X230, running Win 8 Pro (clean install).I have power options set to "Do Nothing" if the lid is closed, but to put the unit to sleep if I press the Power or Sleep button. (I don't know that the computer has a sleep button, so here I am referring to the power button.)The power button works to turn the unit on, including to wake it from sleep. (So I don't think there is a hardware problem with it.)But with the computer running, if I press the sleep button nothing happens at all, although I have it set to put the computer to sleep. What might be going wrong?  (And is there a sleep button?)

Answer:Power Button won't put my X230 to Sleep!

Hi, maiki

Yes, there is a sleep button. Depending on the behavior of your Fn keys, then you will either press Fn + F4 or simply F4 to put the machine to sleep. I would try to create a new power plan and have the same settings to see if you can get the proper power button behavior.

Hope it helps,

I just got my x230 yesterday and I'm having some weird issues. (1) whenever my laptop goes to sleep mode. I can't seem to make it wake up. The power button would just slowly blink and would not respond to anything. I would have to hard reset my laptop for it to turn on. When I turn it back on, it would go the "Start windows normally" screen.(2) whenever I close the lid, I'm guessing it tries to go to sleep mode, then if I wake it up, the system seem to reboot and would go to the "start windows normally" screen. Both seems to all relates to sleep mode. Does any body have the same issue?  I really need help. Thanks

Answer:x230, wifi not working after sleep.

Any chance you have Access Connections v.5.97? If yes, downgrade that to v.5.93 or upgrade to v.5.98.

Model 2306 x230 Windows 8 I installed three  windows updates (KB2687455, KB2855336 and KB890830  ) last week. Since then, my computer has shutdown problem and sleep problem. Everytime I turned off my pc at least 10 mins and once I restart the computer, windows will show an error message. If I put my pc into sleep mode, it will not resume unless I hold the power button for ten seconds. I uninstalled those updates and problems were resovled. Anybody has the same problem?  I appreciate any help or suggestions~~~. Thanks

Answer:Shutdown and Sleep issue thinkpad x230

I have that machine. I have it fully up to date. I have KB2855336 installed. KB890830 is Malicious Software Removal which has run on this machine. KB2687455 is for Office 2010 which I do not have (I have Office 2013). I am not having these issues at all. See if running SFC /SCANNOW might help. .... JDH

Hi,  a week ago I am facing with a problem - I am entering the laptop in sleep mode, just closing the screen, and when I open the screen (expecting that the laptop should wake up) it starts usual OS boot from scratch, not hibernate. How to troubleshoot? win7 x64 As I remember about 2 weeks ago I installed new VMWare player, latest power manager drivers.

Answer:x230 shuts down when return from sleep mode

Hi Barabas,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad X230 is restarting while you try to wake it up from sleep.

Go to control panel -> Power options -> Click on choose what closing the lid does (on the left side of the window) -> Select sleep -> OK.

If the above settings are as recommended, update your BIOS and Intel Management Engine firmware to the latest versions from Lenovo Support page. Enter your MTM number in the ?Quick Path? and download the drivers.

Try reseating your memory. Try running the system with only one memory if you have multiple RAM in your system.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Dear, I found some strange issue with my Lenovo ThinkPad X230 on Windows 10. When i've attached the battery, I try to shutdown, hibernate and sleep the labtop but the laptop didnt shutdown or hibernate properly. The screen is turn off, the WIFI symbol still bright, the power button light still blink and the fan still spining. i need to force shutdown by pressing the power button for 10 sec to turn everything off. On the other hand, if i take the battery off, pluged the power cord, everything will work fine. I can shutdown, hibernate and sleep. I used Lenovo Service Bridge to scan and install the lastest version of every driver. I also flashed the BIOS to lastest version. Unfotunately, the problem still persists.

Hi. Apologies in advance if I am posting incorrectly or in the wrong place; I hate to be "that guy" invading a forum. I emailed Lenovo for help, but they told me to come here. I own a Lenovo X230 laptop. It is not the tablet version. The problem: It cannot/will not sleep anymore. If I shut the lid (which I have set to put it to sleep), or manually try to make it sleep in Windows, the screen goes black, and then appears to "hang up" (for example, I can still hear the fan running). It will stay like this until I hold down the power button and hard shut it off. I have done a clean install of Windows, and updated the graphics drivers, and this problem still persists.  I am 95% (nearly certain) that this problem started when I updated my BIOS to 2.63. "No problem," I thought to myself, "I"ll just roll back to a previous version of the BIOS." Nope. Apparently, for "security reasons," you cannot roll back from 2.63. This problem is driving me nuts, because a huge part of having a laptop for me is the portability, which is completely useless without the ability to sleep. Otherwise, I am left having to constantly turn off and turn on the laptop if I am in a situation where I need to close the cover.  I am also annoyed that I suspect this problem is a result of updating the BIOS. I fully admit I am not completely 110% sure that this is the case, because who can actually tell with certainty, but I really do think that is the cause, as the problem started ha... Read more

Sometimes my x230 becomes unresponsive after resuming from sleep/hibernate. The "system" process would take up one core (25%) and the hard disk activity light would stay on all the time. I could switch between applications that were already started, but I couldn't start any new applications, and giving the currently running applications any keyboard or mouse input, would put them in the "not responding" state. The only way I found to get out of this state is to do a cold shut-down... holding on the power button for 5 sec. This hang would happen quite often... about 3-4 out of 10 resumes... very annoying that I would lose the state of all my open applications. I did a system update to the latest driver versions, including a bios update. That seemed to fix the problem... at least for a while... Then it started happening again, althouh less frequently... but it still happens. Any ideas? thanks

Answer:x230 hangs when resuming from sleep/hibernate

hi vicentiu,

thaks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're facing. I understand that there you have installed the latest drivers and BIOS and you mention it has somewhat helped in a short term but just to confirm with you, may I know which lenovo software has been installed on you machine. There are time where by a Lenovo Pre installed software was found to conflict with the system.

Software like McAfee, Rapid Shield , Airbag Protection are best turned off or uninstall as for some reason it was found to conflict from time to time.

Do give it a try and let me know fo the feed back.

I have a X230i running Windows 8. I use sleep mode when I'm not using computerRecently I found that sleep mode consumed 10-20% battery daily. When I try to start the computer, it was often left with little battery amount. Can I set a threshold, so that when laptop is already in sleep mode and reached a set value (eg. 70%), the laptop will change from sleep mode to hibernate mood automatically so that it won't drain all the batttery? Thanks!!

My ThinkPad x230 doesn't work properly after waking from sleep.  The USB 3.0 ports only operate at 2.0 speeds, and as a result the UltraDock that is connected to the laptop is constantly using 15% of my CPU.  I hear the fan running for hours once this begins.  The Lenovo dock is shortening the lifespan of my Lenovo laptop.

I am having a strange issue with my X230 when docked in the UltraBase 3.  This seems to have started in the last month  so I suspect either recent BIOS or driver issue. Displayport video output sometimes fails to go to my external montior (Samsung S22A460 via Displayport to DVI adapter) If I turn on the X230 and immediately log on, the external monitor works great.  But if I turn on the machine, walk away for a few minutes and then come back to actually Ctrl-Alt-Del and log on, the external monitor gets no signals. I can log on to the X230 and it works fine with its own display.  Undocking and re-docking does not start the external monitor.  Restarting the X230 in the dock does not fix it.  Full shut down  followed by power up will get the X230 to detect the external monitor again. If the machine + monitor combo starts and works it keeps working.  The machine can go to power save mode and dim or turn off the monitors.  Both the internal and external will come back on after waking the machine. If the external monitor fails to get output at first startup, the only way to get it working is full shutdown and power up.

I have a new X230 3206-A31 bought in Hong Kong. I am using the stock configuration with 32GB mSATA for cache and 500 GB HDD for OS and storage, which I love by the way.  I have activated "30 day standby" in Power Manager and disabled hibernation as that only seemd to take it into proper HDD hibernation mode with some 30 sec resume time.I studied the advice in an older post form from "someotherguy" to determine if the mSATA partition is set up properly. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T430s-30-day-standby-how-to-determine-it-is... I tried to uninstall Power manager and change the Intel Rapid Start setting in BIOS to immediately which does take it into first sleep and then immediately back up and into deep sleep (no power button LED and flashing LED during resume) even though it took a dissapointing 10 sec to resume from it.After re-installing Power Manager it doesn't work at all again even after the three hours preset by power manager. It just goes into normal sleep mode and stays there with quite a power drainage as result (around 1% hour)Am I missing something? Does anyone have the same experience or some ideas to share?

Sometimes the brightness controls don't work after resuming from sleep/hibernate... meaning that I can't lower or increase the brightness. All other Fn operations work (webcam controls, projector options, wifi, lock screen), so it's not the Fn button.Volume +/- also works. I have to reboot to get them working again. Any suggestions? thanks

Happens to me all the time. Nothing I've tried works to fix it, although I've never been brave enough to update the BIOS. But, the controls usually wake up if I close and reopen the lid.

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me with this.

I installed 7RC a couple of months ago. Since then whenever my pc sleeps I can not wake it up. It used to wake up fine in XP.

To get it going again I have to cold reboot or pull the plug. When it comes back up everything I was doing is still there, I just have to enter my password.

I think I have all the settings right but if someone could run me through everything that needs to be set I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I am using a wake on lan app on my ipod so i can wake my computer from sleep. Im running into a problem though. When i go into configure my network adapter, and go to the power management tab, if "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" is unchecked, the app works, but when the computer comes back on it cant connect to the internet, if it is checked, the app doesnt work, but when the computer turns back on the internet works. Any ideas on how to solve this problem, so the internet will work when it wakes and the app will work, thanks!

Answer:help with sleep / wake on lan

Actually i dont think the internet is working with either setting. After short periods, like 5 minutes or less, the internet still works, but after longer periods, when i wake it the network has limited connectivity or doesnt work entirely.

Hi All,
My boss just bought a XPS 15 9550 last September.  There are a few cases each week that it does not wake up from sleep.  All drivers are up to date.  I did an online check with Dell for hardware check and all seems fine.
The computer goes into some state that the screen is black, the computer is running and there is nothing else but holding the power button down to restart it.

It's frustrating.

Hello Eight Forums,

New HP Notebook. One month power on. W8.1 64bit

Setup with Classic Shell and Fast Startup Off

Have to decide next week. If I should return for new machine exchange or keep with two known issues.

1) Sleeps on timer okay. Just cannot wake from Sleep. Tap space bar. Black screen goes gray. Times to black.
Noticed ethernet lite not on. Plug is clear plastic with white led normally on and on during startup.

Suspect power to NIC not satisfied so, no wake from Sleep. Have to force shutdown. Startup is normal. Forced shutdown is not flagged prompting startup options.

2) igfx Tray Module has stopped working pops dialog box on some startups.

HP and I have been round and round. HP wants me to contact Microsoft. We all know that's not fun. HP is bad enough. Always leaving remote session with machine worse for the experience.

HP went through settings and drivers. HP un-installed, re-installed over-installed and updated drivers till they were exhausted. Using HP Support Assistant and pulling soft paks from HP.com.
Then came the requisite System Recovery. Then came more BS.

Yesterday, after a Device Manager graphics driver un-install / install. Windows Update offered it's two cents with an Intel HD Graphics update.

I can return to Staples for new same machine. No harm. No foul. No cost. New warranty period.

Machine worked no issues afaik for two weeks. Then BIOS and UEFI manual pull updates via HP Support Assistant. No issues.... Read more

Hi Guys/Gals

Never use sleep function but last night instead of selecting shutdown hit sleep by mistake. Couldn't get system to wake from sleep and had to turn off by holding power button.

Today when switching system back on i get fan & case lights on , hdd and dvd activity. The keyboard is unresponsive (no lights) and monitor remains in stand by. Mouse gets power but doesn't wake pc.

Using reset or power button on case just restarts system to exact condition above.

Can't contact pc manufacturer til monday (pc 4 months old). Read quite a few other posts regarding vista sleep issues but haven't found anything that would seem to rectify this problem.

Any comments/tips gratefully recieved

Answer:Can't Wake PC From Sleep

Well I'm a beginner but I had a lesser important case than yours. I found you interupt a process of sleep if you try to wake it before about 5 seconds. Anyway, there are a couple of things you can try.

Unplug the power cord and plug it back in.

Pull out the wall socket thingy and put it back in.

Try doing something like booting into safe mode if you can.
The pc maybe still functioning but the monitor can't interact with it. Once you try to boot it, keep pressing F8 for about 10 seconds and then press enter. See if anything happens.

Could also be a shortcircut or something. Other people have had a similar problem.

Since installing SP1 my computer has been acting like a one year old. When I put it to sleep at night it keeps waking and then goes to sleep only to wake again. Left untouched it went through this cycle all night. Starts 20 seconds after I put it to sleep and stays on for 2 minutes and then goes to sleep for 20 seconds then wake for two minutes etc etc etc.I disconnected a flash drive that I had in a USB port.
I disabled "wake timers" under Sleep in Power Options
I disabled "allow this device to wake the computer" in the properties of the USB wireless mouse
In the properties for the network adapter under the "Advanced" tab I disabled the "Wake on Settings". That fixed the problem but then I couldn't wake my computer with Logmein and I think Orb is disabled.
Noticed when I went back that there's another tab "Power Control" for network adapter. I disabled "allow this device to wake the computer" and changed the Advanced tab "Wake on setting" to "OS controlled".
Now when I put it to sleep it seems to stay down. I'll update tomorrow if it misbehaves tonight.

Answer:Sleep Wake Sleep Wake

If you think it might be the network card, you can always open a cmd prompt and run powercfg -lastwake to see which device was logged as waking the machine last.

Hi guys, srry haven't been to tech support guy for awhile, in case if i miss any information, feel free to remind me
and i'll post it asap.

My laptop is about 2 years old (Acer Aspire 6920), one day like any normal day i was away from my laptop
and it went to sleep. The next time i was using it i tried to wake it up, it froze for around 10 mins, so i tried to
restart it and the next thing i knew it only starts up to "startup repair". Any attempts to access safe mode to
debug the computer has failed and since then the laptop has gone on a loop -->fail to repair in startup repair
--> restart computer again --> running startup repair. So i decided to reinstall the OS.

after reformatting and reinstalling windows 7 to my laptop though, i seem to encounter a similar error. The laptop
seems to work fine although whenever it goes to sleep and i try to wake it up, the screen froze and starts
flashing and the laptop wont work until you restart the computer again. I made my second attempt to reinstall
a new OS to the system and the same error occurred. My laptop has the latest bios and i tried various versions
of drivers for my graphics card (intel 965 chipset) and the problem continues to persist.

I was wondering if there's any program to debug this error or whether this is a hardware error that i can somehow detect.

Thanks!

I have a 4 yr old custom built desktop upgraded from Win 7 pro to Win 10 pro about 8 months ago. Up until two weeks ago the sleep/wake up has worked perfect. Now the unit will not wake from sleep. I have tried everything I have seen and nothing has worked. It has to be booted from sleep. I have now set sleep time to never and will shut the unit down at night rather than letting it go to sleep. Anybody have anything new that I could try. Is MS working on this???

Answer:will not wake from sleep

Win 10 pro installed on a Desktop computer. Like so many I have experienced the problem with the Sleep option not allowing the computer to Wake. Nothing I have tried has done anything to change this, so I decided to not use the Sleep and to just Shut Down when I am not using the computer. It seems that the Shut Down option does the same thing as Sleep. They both put the computer in a state where it will not Wake up. The only options are to hold the Power button until the computer completely shuts down, or to hit the reset button. Now when I do a normal Shut Down I am then holding the Power Button to completely Shut Down the computer. This is totally ridiculous. Is anyone working on a solution to these problems? I also have a Laptop with Win 10 installed that is doing the same thing with Sleep and Shut Down.

I try hitting the power button, nothing. I have to restart, it takes a long time to read the hd's in bios, then when it restarts there is no network connection, so I need to restart again.

no real pattern to this, sometimes I leave the machine on all night and no problems, other times just a couple hours and it happens.

I am also using a wireless mouse/kb if that makes a difference.

Question: wake from sleep

hi-i am trying to enable wake my computer from sleep using the keyboard or mouse.i have checked all of the bios settings and neccessary power settings are all enabled.i ran the power-cfg cmd to check if my computer will allow itself to use these, and it stated that i could using s1 setting.however it still wont work.i checked on the internet, and one forum suggested it could be that i should check the option under usb root hub-"allow this device to wake computer from sleep".i cannot check any of these options as the box is grayed out.can anyone help?

Answer:wake from sleep

It may be that one or more devices in your system is/are not compatible with sleep mode, hence those options are greyed out.

Hi manusdn7 and welcome

The windows memory test does not stress your memory enough to tell, plus it is run from within windows.

You need to run memtestx86

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember that memtest errors can be either memory or bad motherboard slots so you may have to test memory one stick at a time, and the slots with known good memory.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had this problem before?

My computer was put to sleep earlier on today, and I moved the mouse to turn it back on. The power light went from orange (sleep mode) to blue (powered on). Nothing was displayed on the machine. Bashed some buttons, nothing happened, so did a hard reboot.

The power button went red (which happens if I hard reboot it) then to blue but that's it. The fans and hard drive starts going, but no beeps, no POST, no display. Nothing.

Already, I've tried:

- Reseating my RAM sticks - nothing
- Unplugging the hard drive - bf actually broke a sata slot, although he says it was lose before. The pins are not straight now and I can't get the black slot back onto the mobo. Plugged hard drive into sata 2 slot, still get no reaction.

Anything else I can try?

Answer:Can't wake up from sleep.

Try clearing CMOS, see if that helps.

My computer will go into sleep mode (sleep, hibernate, and all power off settings in the power setting are disabled) and it will not wake up. Preform a hard reboot and it beeps once every second without getting through post. Leave it alone for a few days and it's fine boots as normal. Last for a day or two then happens again. Any one got any ideas?

Hi group,When my PC (HP Pavilion) goes into "idle" - when I'm not using it - it will not wake back up. I get no video, and sometimes my mouse will not wake up either. When I disconnect my power cord and reconnect the computer, I am able to boot up and things work. The computer works fine as long as I don't let it go to idle. For example, when I shut it down, it will boot up fine the next time. This just started happening recently after two updates: one from Norton, and the other from Quicken. I have no idea whether one of these caused the problem. I keep my PC well-maintained with all the latest updates. I have run the power troubleshooter, as well as the updates troubleshooter, and both detected no problems. Open to any ideas you may have,Thanks,Jeff

So it sleeps no bother normally but it seems that if my htpc has woken it with a wol magic packet, it will not go back to sleep , ever unless manually put to sleep. Rebooting and automatic sleep works again. I recently reinstalled windows and have looked atvevery setting I can think of. Including unattended sleep timeoutvin gpedit which I have tried not config and set to one min. Powercfg shows nothing.

Answer:no sleep after wake on lan

I have been searching the internet and it seems that this situation is unique.

To clarify, sleep works fine but if the computer is woken with a magic packet from any source it does not then go back to sleep after inactivity. Even the monitor stays on.

In gpedit I have tried disabling allow applications to prevent sleep under power options with no change.

Anybody got any ideas, this is driving me crackers!

I have a new computer with Vista Home Basic. If I set it to "sleep" for short periods there is no problem. The power button light flashes and if I press the button the PC resumes where I left off. However if I leave it in sleep mode for a long time, eg overnight, the PC will not awake and I have to turn the mains power off and on and reboot. The PC suppliers say that with modern computers and programs sleep should not be used for long periods. Seems strange. If I want to continue in the morning where I left off in the evening what can I do? Should I use hybernate? How does that work?

Answer:Sleep - can't wake up!

It may be considered unwise to leave your PC on for long periods when unused. The PC is still `live` electrically and is using power, still `warm` and accessible. As a result, there is the risk of damage from electrical power `spikes`, perhaps fire could result and of course it is not particularly `green`.Whether there is a real problem with it not resuming after long periods of inactivity or whether this is a `feature` of the OS I have no idea. But, it would seem reasonable for it to resume unless there is some form of software problem; bad graphics drivers have been known to cause this kind of anomaly in XP.
