X230 Tablet Black Screen Won't Wake

Question: X230 Tablet Black Screen Won't Wake

I purchased a new X230 tablet in August 2013. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, Office 2010 Pro, and all updates, Microsoft and Lenovo have been applied. I have, or at least I believe I have, shut off the option of the screen dimming or the machine sleeping in battery mode and while plugged in. I've noticed this since I first purchased the unit but haven't used it in tablet mode enough to worry about searching out a solution until now. My problem is when put into tablet mode, typically running OneNote, but I've also seen it occur with just the default windows screen up, after a few minutes of inactivity, the screen goes black and I've not been able to wake it back up and am forced to perform a hard shut down. I sure hope there is an easy fix for this.

Preferred Solution: X230 Tablet Black Screen Won't Wake

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: X230 Tablet Black Screen Won't Wake

Oh, and I have the Gorilla glass outdoor screen model and all power management functions in the Bios are shut off. Please help, as right now tablet mode is essentially worthless as the black screen now is appearing right in the middle of writing with the stylus. After a couple hard shut downs, the Synaptics drivers appear to be blown away and the NavPoint stops working and must have the drivers reinstalled. Please help.....I'm missing my tablet functionality!!! Please help.

Is there any way to customize this button? I have installed windows 8 (and now finally have almost everything working to my liking!) and would rather not have it launch SimpleTap. If possible I would like it to default to the standard desktop setting.

Answer:x230 Tablet "Black Button"

I have not discovered a way revamp the Black Button without changing the registry, However, this may be a good alternative for you to create your own hard shortcuts in Windows 8:

Use the [Win-Logo]+[D] to see the Windows-8 desktop.
Right click on the Windows-8 desktop and select New, Shortcut.
Then in the called input box simply enter the appropriate shortcut text.
(found under the properties of the desired program)
Once a desktop shortcut is made, right click the shortcut, press properties and shortcut key replace none with the key or key combination you would like to use.

Then Pin the Desktop Shortcut to Start (Menu). To do this right click on the desktop shortcut and select "Pin to Start"

I also thought I would share the official Windows 8 shortcuts with you.

I've started to have a number of debilitating problems with my lumia 950, which is a shame because they are the same problems that made me leave android for the WP platform. To start off, my phone has been randomly restarting. The restarting seems to have started after the anniversary update version 1607. There's nothing common between one reset to the next, just that they become more frequent as battery life reduces (starts at around 80%). This is also sometimes accompanied by a streak yellow across the screen. I don't know if this is relevant or not.
My second issue, which has been happening the longest, is that the screen will sometimes be completely off when I wake up the phone. I will put the phone into sleep with the power button, and when I wake it up with the power button the screen is black. I know the phone is awake because windows hello will try to sign me in. I have reason to believe that the touch digitizer is also still working. This is fixed either by trying to sleep cycle the phone or by holding down the power button until the phone prompts me to power it off. This seems to wake the screen up. the screen also sometimes wakes up when windows hello signs me in, but this is rare. This problem has become less frequent since the anniversary update.
My third problem is that sometimes the touch digitizer doesn't work on wake. This is similar to my last problem, except that it always goes away by sleep cycling my phone. This problem has also become less prominent ... Read more

What is the response time (in ms) of the screen on X230 Tablet?

Answer:What is the response time (in ms) of the screen on X230 Tablet?

It depends on overdrive level applied to the lcd panel. Typically it will be around 16 ms that can be improved to ~ 8ms by overdrive that also affects lifetime of the display. And no, there are no LCD panels with 2 ms response time, it is just marketing fluff (similar to PMPO audio power nonsense).

When I purchased my tablet from Lenovo, I understood it had both touch and pressure screen functionality. It does not.

When I rotate the screen and fold it down the stylus pen doesn't work. Nor does the screen function as a touch screen.

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

There's this weird rectangle of discoloration on the left side of my screen.  It usually has tiny lines that are multicolored.  The colors change upon pressing on the left side of the screen, specifically the bottom left corner of my screen.  The rectangle also seems to get affected the same way as i grab the tab like surface on the top right of the screen to rotate it into tablet mode.  After searching other posts, i believe my problem may be that that the "contact tape has been delaminated?" http://http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-broken-screen-need-second-o...as this person in this post a similar problem.  I also wanted to point out that the rectangle usually goes away in time or if i push the rotate screen button (sometimes).  It also seems to not be there sometimes when i start up the computer as its not there when it shows "lenovo" during start up but then the rectangle appears.  If i take a screen shot of it, the rectangle doesn't come on the image as you will in the pictures below.  If i duplicate my display on an external display, the rectangle won't be there.  HOWEVER, there has sometimes been a rectangle of discoloration on a different part of the external display.  Interestingly, as you will see in the picture attached, the rectangle is only as long as the window i opened in that screen is.  but the rectangle won't show outside the window or rather the desktop of the exter... I have an issue that is plaguing my ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I cannot afford to be without it for a week to send it into the depot and am not sure they will be able to replicate the issue even if I do. Two things are happening. Tablet is placed in the docking station. If I turn it on, it will lock up at the ThinkPad screen and never fully load Windows (Win 7 64-bit). If I take it out of the docking station, hard crash it, and then restart, it will start right up. I then wait for the Windows home screen and place back in the docking station. When I do this, TSM Resident immediately quits. Hey All,

I've lurked forever, and have found the solutions on these forums (and the prior sevenforums) exceedingly helpful, but now I'm stuck and can't find a solution.

The scenario:

Years ago I bought a Asus Transformer Pad T100. It was great. I enabled auto-signin and everything has been fine.
When I put the tablet to sleep, then wake it up, the lock screen is displayed, but once I swipe it up it auto-signs in to windows. This is my preferred behavior as it makes the lock screen act like a non-pin lock screen on a phone, and avoids mispresses of the power button causing applications to launch.

Today, I got an Asus Transformer 300 Chi. It has been pretty great so far, except for one issue that is driving me crazy: I can't repeat the above behavior.

Basically, either I don't get a lock screen at all, or I get one requiring a password. To clarify, I've confirmed that the user accounts screens on both tablet have Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. unchecked. I do not require a password on sign-in of windows, which is great. But when I hit the power button, it just goes immediately to Windows' desktop.

On the T100, it is not set to require a password under screensaver settings, nor the Modern PC Settings' Account sections. Power settings does require a password on wakeup. And this is where things differ.

On the 300 Chi, I cannot have both the Modern PC Settings' account section to not require a password under Password Policy and power settin... Read more

Hi guys.I've had my X230 Thinkpad for a few months now but I've been having a problem with the screen randomly going black if I leave it for a period of time, maybe 20 mins or so.I'd looked online for answers and even though I'm pretty sure it's not going into sleep mode I've disabled the sleep mode option in settings but it keeps happening.I mostly use the laptop to monitor a hvac system at work that's connected through a usb interface and if I leave it for say 20 mins then the screen just goes black and no matter what I do I can't get it back to the page I'm on.Sometimes my cursor is visible in front of the black screen but not always.Even pressing control/alt/delete or the Fn button doesn't work.I've had a few error messages that mention memory but I'm unsure wether it's a memory, hardware or even graphics card issue.I've ran the Lenovo diagnostics test and ut comes back with no problems found, It's very frustrating to have to keep shutting it down by the power button.Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try?

Since recently my laptop shows a big black and white bar after booting. After applying a little force to the screen i get different colorsLike so:And after applying some more force, not too roughly of course, it is all fine again. However im afraid that after a while it will not be fixable by a little force anymore. I did not drop the laptop to cause this and have never taken the screen appart. Is this something i can fix? should i send the laptop for warranty? (still have a year or so left)?

Ok as soon as i close the lid and open it again i get the bars back. It was after applying pressure to the bezel btw, not the screen itself. Now it wont dissapear anymore...

Hi I recently got a new computer (X230). Everything worked fine when I started computer however I couldnt get my monitor to connect to the laptop (extended desktop). I updated the graphics card driver and tried a few other display options (changing resolution etc) however nothing worked. A collegue suggested restarting the computer. When i tried this the computer restarted however a black screen appeared after the windows logo and I couldnt see anything to log back on. There is sound when I try typing etc however I cant see a thing. Tried plugging in to monitor and still nothing.  Any help would be much appreciated as I cant use my shiny new laptop. Rgds

Answer:Black Screen After windows logo on X230

Hi, youngbuchanan

I would recommend you trying to boot into Safe Mode to see if your display works properly there. The X230 can come with either Windows 7 or Windows 8 and the instructions to boot into Safe Mode vary, so I will list both below.

For Windows 7:

Start the computer from cold boot.
When the splash screen appears (says "Lenovo) being tapping F8 repeatedly.
Continue tapping F8 until a menu appears.
Select Safe Mode.
Hit Enter.
The computer should now boot to Safe Mode.

For Windows 8:

Start the computer from cold boot.
Immediately hold down the Shift key.
Begin tapping F8 repeatedly at the splash screen (says "Lenovo")
Continue tapping F8 until a screen appears.
Select Advanced Repair Options.
Select Troubleshoot
Select Advanced Options
Select Windows Startup Settings
Click Restart
Select Safe Mode from the list that appears after boot (should be #4)

It may take a few tries to get into Safe Mode, but it should ask you for the option after a few tries. See if you can see your display while in Safe Mode.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Answer:[X230] Screen issues (black bars)

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would suggest you to try connecting an external display and check if the lines appear there too.

Update video drivers and change the refresh rate in AC adapter and battery power plans.

Check in BIOS if the black lines appear there as well. Have you tried changing the brightness levels?

Please let me know the happenings!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I am having a problem that is driving me nuts! I have an HP Presario x1460CA laptop about three years old. Occasionally it will not wake up from sleep or standby mode. The computer works as I can connect it to an external monitor to see the screen. The screen is black and the back light works as when I press the button that turns off the screen when you close the lid, the screen gets darker. I have upgraded the BIOS and XP is upgraded to SP2.

SP is Home Edition V2002 SP2
Processor is an Intel Pentium(R) M at 1500 MHz
598 MHz, 512 MB RAM

Eventually it will come on after a hard boot. I have had several technicians look at it and they can't seem to find anything amiss.

Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

When i try to log on using the single swipe power on and login feature sometimes the screen will go to the login screen, the finger print scanner will flash, and then i get a black screen. I can see the mouse cursor, but nothing else. If I swipe my finger again, I will see the login screen again briefly, before it returns to a blank screen again. There is no way to get past this, aside from forcing the machine to power down (Hold down power key for 10 seconds). Does anyone have a solution for this. Powering on the device and logging in with a single swipe is a really great feature, but I need it to not brick logging in. Thanks for any help or advice.

Answer:X230 Win 8.1 Pro Fingerprint single swipe power on and login black screen

I've not seen or heard of this problem before, and I will double-check my X230 with Win8.1 tomorrow.

Questions:
1.  Does this happen 100% of the time, or is it intermittent?
2.  Does it happen starting from full shutdown (press and hold SHIFT key while you shutdown the computer normally, then swipe to power on and log in).
3.  Does it happen starting from sleep (swipe to resume the system from sleep and log in)
4.  Can you check "View all problem reports" screen in Action Center to see if any crash happens at the same time the problem occurs?
5.  Can you export registry at these locations:
    a.  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\Credential Provider Filters]
    b.  [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\Credential Providers]

If you put these two .reg files into .zip you should be able to attach it here.

With the 15.46 series drivers from intel a new problem rised. After waking up from sleep black-blank screen appears. Cannot do anything other than force closing pc. Intel states that manufacturers must fix their bios for sleep (s3) state for upcoming Windows 10 update and intel graphics drivers.Solution for now is turning back to 15.45 series drivers. I am having the same problem. In fact after I wake it up from sleep mode the screen is black. the mouse is not activated and the fans go to full speed. The bios appears to be stuck on version O1ZKT25A since I was advised to update to Critical Update version O1ZKT39A which I attempted but was confronted with error messages.

All right, I can't figure this out. I got all the lenovo updates and all windows updates.  SL500 with Vista home basic.  Putting it to sleep is fine, but when waking up, it goes into a black screen which then I have to hold the power button down and manually restart.  Seems this has happened before, and now it's happening on the SL.  Anyone with simliar problems?  Any workarounds?

Answer:Black screen on wake up from sleep

I have the same problem with my SL500 too, quite alot of times since i bought the notebook.... Occurs when i try to wake it up after sleep or hibernation mode. Do you sometimes get a blue screen too? Does your error log record the crash as a 'Bluescreen' problem?  I've read that its due to the Vista OS. How retarded is that... not sure how to fix it, it's **bleep** frustrating..

I am having an issue that only started at the weekend, and doing system restore hasn't solved it.
Running Windows 7 Ultimate, fully patched up with hibernation enabled.
If I wake my computer using my remote it works fine, but during the night my computer wakes up to do some maintenance/updating. Normally it would go back to sleep using MCE Standby tool.
Only changes made this week were some MS updates, and now it doesn't go back to sleep. When I turn the TV on all I get is a black screen, and I have to do a forced reboot.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Black screen after maintenance wake

Look through Computer lags every couple seconds, and especially the parts referring to the event viewer logs and system file checks. Those logs should include information regarding the power/sleep cycles and any errors associated with those cycles. That would be the first place to check. Also, make sure all drivers are up to date, and re-install your graphics and network drivers even if they are up to date. It is possible you have corrupted drivers that are preventing the system from entering sleep again, and the network and display card adapter drivers are likely culprits with these types of problems.
To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.Click Start Menu

Recently on the screen there are black vertical lines, sometimes the image freeze and the screen gets progressively whiter. I can fix it tilting the screen at some angles or pressing on the bottom part of the plastic support.Warranty is over so I tried to open the screen and check the LCD cable, but it looks fine. What could be the problem? In this thread they say the issue was the screen, but they arrived to that solution through a convoluted path so I'm not sure that's the correct answer.Should I check the other end of the LCD cable? Or straight up order a new screen? Thanks for the help.

I am the owner of a ThinkPad X121e - Notebook Type 3051-5QG (AMD E350 Processor). After a BIOS - Update from 1.07 to 1.16 I have a problem to wake it up from the S3 - Suspend to RAM function. The Notebook restarts and the fan is working but there is no beep and the screen stays black. There is no way to get it working except a complete hard shutdown pushing the on/off-Button.  Does anybody know the problem and has a solution? Or do I have to wait and hope for the next BIOS-Version to solve the problem? I would like to downgrade to 1.07 BIOS, but I am afraid that this is not possible.

Answer:X121e - Black screen after wake up from suspend to RAM

Since 2012-12-02 Lenovo has published an new Bios-Version 1.17 . I installed the update today and the problem is gone. I hope there is no new bug in this Bios-Version, but up to now everything seems to work properly.

This is an older laptop - a Lenovo 3000 C200; I never had this problem with XP or Win7; after updating to 10, I get a black screen after waking up from sleep and have to to hold down the power button until the machine shuts off and reboot.
This machine has Mobile Intel 945GM Express graphics; I've tried
- updating system BIOS
- reverting to Lenovo intel drivers (were older than the Win10 ones)
Is there perhaps a way to force a graphics driver reload/power on after wake? Anything else I might try? Thanks.

Hi fellow HP users and forum moderators, I am using a Spectre X360 purchased in Australia and currently using it in Australia. My problem is that the laptop sometimes does not wake up from sleep/hibernate. The screen is pitch black and keyboard lighting button is functional but I tried every single button on the keybpard and pressed the trackpad. Nothing happens or responds to this. Is this a software issue? HP software or Windows 10 64bit issue?Maybe a hardware like SSD playing up? My SSD is a Samsung 256GB one. The only way to make my laptop work again is to press the on/off/sleep button for 5 seconds then it would force to shutdown then I press again to boot it up. This is getting annoying. I am writing a report for university and suddenly after having a short break or so and opening my laptop the screen is black does not want to wake up. Any solution(s) to this? Thanks in advance!

Since a few days, I had wake up stalls (black screen) on my Z830.

Once I thought I thought it had to do with the eco utility, then maybe the Toshiba Power Saver, then possibly the function key utility. Support wrote I should reinstall from scratch (Win7pro - Win8 pro - Upgrade Assistant etc.) but since they said to get rid of the recovery partition when moving to Win8, I cannot do that so easily.

So what I did is to in place refresh Win8 pro and let the Upgrade assistant put all the Toshiba software.
The issues remain though and I can only use the computer without eco utility and function key software installed (which is sort of OK but not exactly what I expect from 6 months old system...).

To answer your first question: no, I didn't do anthing, it happend from one day to the next...

BIOS is 1.8, I also tried now some Z930 software, that doesn not seem to change anything, it is interesting though that those things work well for the most part but don't get released for the Z830...

Any hints? Thx guys, appreciate your efforts!

Answer:Black screen why wake up on Satellite Z830

Hi

Please describe your wake problems you experience.

Are you resuming from standby / hibernation or are you cold booting?

Are the symptoms related to both start-up methods (resume / coldboot)?

Are the symptoms intermittent or constant?

What do you need to do to get started to work on your unit?

Is there any pattern in the use <> symptoms?
f.ex.
- always on standby you experience this
- issues NEVER seen when cold booting
- etc

Did you install additional memory in your unit?

So my laptop has the latest drivers and updates installed but ever since I've installed Windows 7 I get a black screen after trying to wake it up from sleep mode. When I put it to sleep (close the lid or do it via the start menu), everything works fine. It gos to sleep and the light starts blinking. But once I open the lid I can hear the sound of the hard drive starting & the wi-fi button starts to glow, it literally resumes from sleep but the screen stays black. Everything else works fine but not being able to put it in sleep mode is really a big problem for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi

I have win 8 installed for a few weeks now which I have been working on and off playing in a bios duel boot setup to see if I like win 8. (while keeping my win 7 setup)

Every thing has been fine until for the first time I put the computer into sleep , after I tried to wake it up the computer, started up but the screen was still in the standby state. I then had to do a reset as this was the only way I could get the computer to start.
It went through the boot process and opened to the desktop it a state which showed it had booted from a hibernation state (doc left on desk top open how I left it)
I tied a few options I had read in the forums like turning off "powercfg -H off" and rebooted. but this did not fix anything.
I tried a selective start up in misconfig like a safe mode start and this time when I went to try sleep then tried to wake the computer, the monitor at least started up from its sleep mode but was black (blank)

The win 7 x64 on the duel boot sleeps/wakes fine with no problems. I guess the only difference between them is the win 8 is installed on a SSD

any further information you need please ask

Answer:Win 8 Pro x64 After wake from sleep black (blank) screen

Just an update, Been doing a lot of searching of the internet about my problem and I was about to give in, I kept thinking it was my GPU drivers. But I was wrong

I was thinking I might have had some ideas off people from my post, but I guess without it crashing and giving a bsod it made it hard to find what was the problem.

Just to give help to anyone else reading this post I think I have found the answer . I though I had the most up to date drivers for my ACHI controller from the Asus website which where newer than what I had installed.

But once I found out that I had a Intel 5 series chipset, I found some more up to date drivers on Intel's website. Even though when I went there before and ran an online scan it did not offer any updated drivers (I guess Asus had changed them so Intel did not know them to update?)

So the moral I guess is if you think you might have up to date drivers maybe sometimes you need to keep looking, Hope this helps someone as this is a great forum.

I'm no sure if this is the right section to post in, so sorry if it's not. I have a tablet computer, called an x220 tablet. I was browsing the Internet, and left for a minute, and when I came back the screen was black with a flashing white dash in the top left corner. I've turned it off, taken the battery out, and tried restarting it many times. It will go to the openIng "thinkpad" screen, then back to the black screen with flashin underbar. Please help!

The Thinkpad Tablet and the X220t are two different devices. Regarding your problem, I fear that the boot sector is defective. You'll probably have to reinstall Windows.

If I move my mouse or type any key during a black screen, it turns back to desktop.

I've searched around the net, but I couldn't find a solution...so I've decided to ask.
I really need help on this one.

Does anyone have any solution for this?

Thank you.

The laptop seems to be restarted OK but the screen is totally switched off. On the X1 carbon, i7 - I am having a few challenges, not sure if they are related, but I do see this WAN miniport yellow error. I am not bothered by the error popping up - but here are the challenges. 1. USB is not responsive. Using win8, and when I plug in apple devices, they do not pull up, despite a complete shut-down and start up. The USB on one side sometimes will work while the other doesn't seem to often. 2. When opening the lid to pull the computer back to wake, the screen stays black. I tried changing the 'dim the screen' in power settings to 'never' and hope that fixes it but I have a feeling it will not.  Moderator note: off-topic post moved to its own thread.  Subject edited to match content.  Was:  Re: X1 Carbon WAN Miniport (Network Monitor) #2 Code 31 Error

Seems like ever since the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers update (I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think it's the case), my screen stays black upon being woken up from sleep or hibernation. I know it's on, and it's not a matter of the computer being slow, because it's not, and even if it were, leaving it on for many minutes and it remains blank, and the power button and keyboard and everything light up and it starts heating up, so I know it's doing something. Hitting FN-F2 for the backlight does nothing, so I don't think that's the issue. The only way to resolve it is to hold down the power button and reboot, which **bleep**ing pisses me off because sometimes I have important work up and am forced to lose it. Anyone else seeing this issue? Could it be related to the new graphics drivers, or is this something worse and hardware related? My screen seems A-OK when it comes to everything else. Thank you!

Hello,
I thought I already had my portion of "luck" with Win 8.1 but it's not over yet.
My other two threads:
Windows 8.1 RTM installation fails on Dell XPS 1340 (Solved)
http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-h...ps-1340-a.html

Second one still not solved, I can't seem to find correct drivers or way to get both BT + Wifi working.

And now I found another problem. When I close lid of my laptop and open it again the screen is black. Nothing helps to get it out of this. I have power options set to "Do nothing" for both On battery and Plugged in.

So I press power button which sends the laptop to Sleep. Then I press it again to wake it up. And this is when I see the BSOD and laptop restarts.

In minidump I see athwnx.sys and ntoskrnl.exe reported.
athwnx.sys is driver for Dell Wireless 1515 minicard (Wifi and BT). Current driver is from Microsoft, version 3.0.1.155, dated 03/05/2013.

Attached is required info created by SF Diagnostic Tool.

I hope somebody will be able to help me resolve this.

Answer:BSOD after wake up from Sleep (+ black screen on lid open)

Where did you get your 8.1 from? If not from a legitimate Microsoft source, you may have a "remarked" version that really isn't legitimate. If that's the case, we may not even be able to fix it.

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

1 Windows Update installed. Most 8.1 systems have 26. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

D: drive only has less than 1% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

As you have noticed, the memory dumps blame athwnx.sys. This appears to be the most recent version, so a couple of possibilities exist:
- the current version could be corrupted (to test this - remove the wireless and test while on a wired connection) If so, download a fresh copy, uninstall the current version and then install the fresh version.
- the current version may not be to blame (run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: http;//www.carrona.org... Read more

All help appreciated

My new Windows 8 machine frequently, but not always, displays a split screen with vertical black lines after waking up. When I say split screen, I mean it appears that the screen has 'rolled' to the right, with the right third of the screen or so disappearing and rolling around to the left. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, between the two issues, it renders the machine unusable. I can just about find the restart button, but it means I'm forced into it against my will.

Graphics driver up to date. (According to windows device driver)

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro L870-17X: Vertical Black lines and split screen after wake up

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue. I think you are the first one who reports about that.
Maybe you should back-up all your data and reinstall OS using HDD recovery option.
After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again and test it if the same happen again.

For how long do you have this machine?

I've lost sleep mode. I have A200-1IW with official Vista 32-bit.
Few days ago i noticed that pushing "sleep" button I get only screen that is off.

Hard disk is working as well as processor ( I hear fan is working) and power indicator didn't flash red. By the way Hibernation is still alive (powercfg /h on) and hybrid sleep mode is off as it was before in power management. So I did not make any changes in BIOS and in registry.

Just have regular Vista soft upgrades. And thinking about it I?ve tried to recover system status that was before problem. No difference. I used in command line powercfg /a it shows S3 is active, S1 and S2 is not supported.

I?ve tried to change power management settings and didn't get any results. I can use hybrid sleep mode but i don?t want it. Now sleep mode means only screen is off.

Can you help me with my problem? I didn't find similar problem in forum...

PS. I turn off LAN, I haven't any updates are running and other applications. maybe some service is hunging this mode and in this case why is hibernation working?

Answer:Satellite A200-1IW doesn't wake up from sleep mode - black screen

I think the solution is easy.
You have to update the BIOS and the graphic card driver.

I read here in the forum that this must be a solution for such issues with sleep mode.

Access the Toshiba driver page and choose your notebook and Windows Vista.
Update the BIOS, then the graphic card driver.
Reboot the notebook, update the latest Vista hotfixes and reboot again.

After this procedure the notebook should run properly

Hello all. I recently received my new T540p running Windows 7. Although I probably would have qualified for receiving Windows 8 recovery media from Lenovo, I went ahead and did the upgrade myself since I had a copy of Windows 8 laying around (and because I'm impatient). I'm fairly tech-savvy and expected the process to go smoothly; boy was I wrong. I decided to write up this little guide after having a thoroughly annoying time upgrading in the hopes of saving someone else out there from the hassles I underwent.NOTE: The most troublesome part of the whole process was figuring out why the screen brightness was no longer adjustable and the display would not turn on after waking from sleep (black screen) after upgrading to Windows 8. Skip ahead to step #9 if that's the issue you're having.Step #1: Make a bootable recovery disc or USB driveThis is important in case anything goes wrong during the upgrade or you decide you despise Windows 8 and want to bring back Windows 7. The T540p comes with a recovery partition in the hard drive (like most laptops nowadays I assume) which allows you to completely wipe your computer and reset it to its original factory state (the same as when you first received your computer). This is normally done by restarting your computer and hitting the enter key to interrupt normal startup and selecting the recovery option from a menu. I wrongly assumed that I would still be able to conduct the recovery after installing Windows 8, but for some reason after ... Read more

I have read in the forums that there are some issues with waking the X230 - and other laptops - from sleep mode. So far, I don't see a solution. Up until now, when I use the Fn-F4 combination to put my x230 to sleep and close the lid, it wakes when the lid is opened. It also seems to wake using the Fn key if I put it to sleep and don't close the lid. But now there are two sceanrios where I can't get it to wake. If I leave it on and it goes into sleep mode by itself, the Fn key will not always wake it. New this morning, it wouldn't wake even though I had put it to sleep properly. Fn key didn't work, closing and opening the lid didn't work. This doesn't  happen all of the time - so that is the mystery, but it does seem to happen when it had been asleep overnight or for a longer amount of time. I am wondering if maybe it is something running in the background that is hanging it when it sleeps on its own, but this new issue of it not waking even when I had put it to sleep manually is a bigger concern. I usually make a point to put it to sleep - but if I walk away and leave it and it sleeps on its own - that  had been when I can't wake it - now there are two scenarios, and in each case, I need to restart it. I have also noticed that sometimes, it will have the sleep icon glowing on the lid, but after I open the lid and it doesn't wake, the battery charge light is also lit - even if it is not on charge, and wasn't lit before. Today the batter... Read more

Hello, My X230 wake up alone after put into sleep! This is a big issue when you store it into a case, since it will heat a lot due to the lack of ventilation. I initially thought this could be related to transportation (wag and jumping), but I've seen it happen even in a complete stationary position. Any ideias on the roote cause and how to solve it, please? Thks

Answer:X230 - Wake up alone from Sleep

Hi, bsantos9

This could be due to Windows Update or some other application having a setting that tells the machine to come back on. I found this article on Microsoft's website that goes into more detail on how to check for this and how to disable it, if this is the case.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Black screen. Registers battery, AC adaptor, bluetooth and the N light. However I don't hear any beeps, I've tried all of the tricks to reanimate the laptop that Lenovo suggests and have removed the DIMM and the laptop does the neccessary beeps, reinsert the ram and no beeps, no boot.  Is there anything I'm missing? Oh.. Possible major point relating to this: This problem occured within minutes of me downloading and installing the latest multitouch drivers for my laptop and OS from the Lenovo website. Please help, thanks in advance.

Hi! Been pulling my hair out for a week with this. I am an advanced user who is totally stumped. This is a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional x64 with all drivers installed from lenovo.com x230 3435-22U having issues where if it goes to sleep. When the machine wakes up, SOMETIMES it allows me to move the mouse with no issues and continue to use the PC.  SOMETIMES, I have to use the touchscreen to move the mouse and then can continue using the trackpad. and SOMETIMES, it is totally frozen at the log-in screen and then powers down suddenly. Hardware diagnostics all check out just fine. I have also switched SATA in BIOS to 'compatibility' and upgraded the BIOS as recommended. I have also disabled AMT inside the BIOS. I'm really stumped here. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi, AlbiApfelsaft

I would recommend making sure that your BIOS and all the drivers on your system are up to date and seeing if that helps. These errors could be the result of driver conflicts, so updating them may solve the issue. All updates for your system can be found here.

Best,
Adam

Hello,
I've Dell Inspiron 13-7352,  running windows 10
when I rotate the screen it becomes black,
it doesn't work even after restarting, instead it gives 8 beeps!
I changed the option "go to desktop when I sign in"
when I rotate the screen it becomes black, and works again after putting it back to 90 degrees
I mad a Hard Disk partitioning, does it make any sense?
is it a hardware or software issue?
How do I know?
shall factory reset make any difference?

Answer:Dell 7352 2-1 black screen when rotating to tablet mode

8 beeps usually means LCD failure. Reseat the LCD cable or replace the LCD screen.

I've posted about this before, and never gotten any farther yet, but as I figured out some new info I'd repost. So I have a brand new, loaded x200 (1.86GHz, 4gb ram, Intel 5300, webcam, fingerprint, card reader, enhanced multitouch (multi-finger)) with windows 7. It's been fast but I'm still having serious issues when it comes to sleep/hibernate. Using windows reliability monitor, about 5 times a day (out of the 10 times I might need to sleep/hibernate) on trying to sleep by closing the lid or using fn+f4, windows will stop responding. Some info I've figured out about this state:The status leds remain active. Pressing buttons occationally will cause hdd activity, using the external wifi switch will still enable and disable the wifi, so windows is still operating.I cannot connect by remote desktop. It connects, lets me log in, but then all I see is a black screen and a spinning blue circle and have to disconnetVery Wierd: Key shortcuts seem to fail BEFORE this is a problem. Windows Key +L, ctrl+alt+del, ctrl+shift+esc all seem to fail. I know when my sleep won't work by testing those first. I tried using microsoft process explorer to kill any active process, and none seemed responsible. So this is likely a driver/service related issue. I've downgraded most of my drivers to the ones in c:\SWTOOLS as recommended by the forums, tried to disable all non-essential hardware, uninstall anything I could. Still stuck and very frustrated after a month. -Matt&nbs... Read more

I am looking to buy either an X220 or X230 Thinkpad laptop and have been reading the forums here for information about wake from sleep issues for these two machines. I have found a lot on the X220 - seems to be a common problem, so I am now thinking that isn't going to be my choice. My questions for those who may have experienced this with an X230: -is the wake from sleep a common issue with the X230 laptop?-is this more of a SSD issue than a regular HHD?-is this related to the amount of RAM installed?-is this more of a Win 7 issue? If so, any version that is more susceptible? I had an HP laptop that finally was unusable due to this issue and want to avoid that with a new laptop. I really like the features and size of the x230 - and that I can still get Win 7. Any input on how often the X230 has this type of issue - and any solutions that have worked - would be greatly appreciated, as I really am reluctant to have history repeated with this wake from sleep issue. Thanks!HL

It seems strange because I was convinced it was a matter of cables. What can it be?Should be the illuminator? I think not, because in this case should be seen vaguely. hi all, i have a small, but somewhat annoying problem with my x200 tablet.my usual setup is such that i work on the desktop computer, which is connected by cable to my laptop. after 20 (or so) minutes of inactivity the laptop's screen turns off (this is standard behavior, we all know this). however, when this happens, the laptop becomes inaccessible through the network and the network indicator is showing a red X sign, as if it weren't connected at all. after few seconds, the network comes back online, so it seems to me that the network card turns off and on again, but i have no idea how to fix this problem. same thing happens when i go from the black screen state back to the 'not idle' state (ie. i move the mouse, or press a key, and the screen is back to normal. is there any solution to this? is this happening to anyone else, too? the network driver  is in version 10.1.9.0 from 7.April 2010, according to Device Manager. thanks for any answer.

Answer:X200 Tablet network card turning off/on when screen goes black and back

Sounds like power management for sure. You can go into your control panel, and then click on device manager. From here go to the section called network adapters, and then right click on the adapter (should be intel or whatever card came with your x200). Then click on properties. A new window will open, and in this window you'll see a tap to the right called power management. Make sure the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked then click ok. See if that fixes your problem. Hopefully that is the issue.

Hello, I've owned my Yoga Pro 2 since it hit the market and have been satisfied until now.  I tried starting it this morning and there was no response except for the white circle next to the power button being illuminated.  I tried holding down the power button for ten seconds to restart: nothing on the screen.  I tried holding down the power button for 90 seconds (per research on others' successful attempts online): the white illuminated circle next to the power button illuminates to orange for about 3 seconds and then back to an illuminated white circle with nothing on the screen. The next thing I tried was plugging it into another outlet with no changes.  Finally, I tried starting it in tablet mode and it booted up. After booting up, I immediately made a backup onto an external HD as the touch screen worked and I was able to use it as a tablet.  Next, I tried to see if any other modes worked (e.g. tent, desktop, etc.) and after lifting the screen to transition less than 1/2 an inch, the screen would immediately turn black with keyboard and power buttons being ineffective.  Upon returning to tablet mode, I pushed the windows home logo on the screen and the screen popped into life.  I was able to use it in tablet mode again. Repeated attempts to return to transition to other modes resulted in a black screen after reaching the 1/2 inch mark.  Is this a wiring/hardward thing or is it a software fix?  I've uninstalled ... In the Windows METRO mode, the touch keyboard will automatically come out when the focus is in a text field. In the Windows desktop mode, one way to get the Touch keyboard is:Click the key combination: Windows + C to bring up the Charm.Click the Settings.Click Keyboard and select the Touch Keyboard. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not remember the selection so the next time you click on a text field, you have to go through the process again. I hope MS will change this. Even better is if the X230T is in a tablet mode (meaning the screen is lay flat and on top of keyboard, it will be smart enough to use Touch Keyboard by default. Edit: Another way to display the Touch Keyboard is to click the Touch Keyboard icon at the task bar.

Is there a way to specify different actions for the pen buttons?  For example, when using one specific program, I'd like the side button to function as if it were the shift key instead of the right-click but then have it operate as the standard right-click when in Windows or other programs. Is this a native functionality or is there a third-party program available that could give me such options?

Answer:X230 Tablet Pen Options

aardvarky, This is an excellent question! I definitely understand your wants! Officially, it needs to be a setting inside the software you want to use the digitizer pen in.

Examples:

With the new TBT2 there is a software called QuickSnip, insdie the QuickSnip settings you can change the digitizer pen button from right click to screen capture.

Inside OneNote you can change the settings of the Pen Buttons, here is a link to a X230T Digitizer Pen Input Youtube video that may have more clairification.

So, as Digitizer Pen Technology becomes more popular, I believe we will begin seeing more Applications and Software adding the technology to enhance their user customizations.

I just received my second non-tablet X230 after my first one didn't work out. The new one has Windows 8 Pro loaded on it and I noticed that many of the programs were optimized for a touch screen by default, I also had the touch keyboard button on the taskbar. This is not a huge deal, but does anyone know if there is a way to remove "Pen and Touch" support or fix this error. I imagine that they loaded the x230 tablet image onto my x230 by mistake. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.   Thanks!

Question: X230 Tablet newbie

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Lenovo X230 Tablet. Specificly a 3434-CTR.

Now, as far as I know, a X230 tablet should have a multitouch screen and pressure sensitive built in Wacom tablet.

I just got this machine and it has a pre-installed copy of Windows 7 64bit Professional on it so I would gather that it has all necesery drivers already installed.

Problem is, the touch screen simply doesn't work - it doesn't respond to my fingers at all. It does work with the stylus pen, though. But it doesn't support pressure sensitivity. I tried using a portable drawing program that has never failed to work with any pressure sensitive pen tablet but it simply didn't work.

I'm guessing that there are some drivers I should install, but I don't know what to look for.

Is it possible that a 3434-CTR doesn't have a multitouch screen nor a pressure sensitive pen tablet?

Welcome to the community.

You may wish to visit the Parts Lookup page. Fill in your S/N and machine type (3434) and it should return a list of parts that went into your build. Either post the whole list back here, or, if it's obvious, post the P/Ns for the LCD panel and we can try to assist further.

Ihave owned a Windows 7 X220 Tablet for about 3 years, but never previously ugraded the Lenovo software on it. I saw this was possible, ticked various upgrades and set it off to download and install. On restarting the screen is black - with only a flat white cursor top left. I called Lenovo who said they suspected a bios upgrade had conflicted with something else being installed at the same time (I had ticked multiple upgrades at once), and suggested Ilook and ask for help on the forum. They said they thopught I needed to roll back the bios upgrade but Idon't know how to. I run Trend Micro security suite which was not swithced off when I did the upgrade. Any suggestions at all would be really welcome as the machine is effectively dead and unusable unless I can get it back to the previous set-up. ( Isuspect there are likely to be restore  points but cannot do anything at all at present) Thanks very much    cnwlenovo 15 Feb 2015

Answer:Disaster - X220 tablet - screen black on reboot after installing Lenovo upgrades

Ihave just (after posting this request), and 2 weeks after the failed attempt to get the computer to restart, tried again with the laptop powered onto the mains - it must have completely lost battery power in the meantime, successfully rebooted into Windows, the machine installed Windows upgrqades as it booted, and restarted itself in the process. Iliterally bit my nails as this was going on - and pleased to report the macjine now seems to have opened up OKin windows. Phew!!!      Wonder if the "bad loop"it may have gotten into when Iwas tryoing to reboot several times before - resulting in black screen and white cursor top left - may have died with a complete power down. In any event Iam hugely relieved - so Lenovo upgrades were obviously "self-correcting and troubleshotting after all.... Cnwlenovo 15 February 2015

I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet.  The trackpoint and touchpad have stopped working.  This just happened today, after about six months of use.  When I boot the machine, I can move the mouse cursor for a few seconds, but then it stops.  I don't see any error messages.  The Ultranav panel in the mouse control panel applet shows the controls for both trackpoint and touchpad greyed out--they can't be clicked on, and the "enabled" boxes are not checked.  The device manager says that the device is working.  If I try to update the driver, I'm told it is up to date.  If I uninstall the driver and reboot, the trackball and touchpad work, but they seem to be using generic drivers--the ultranav panel does not show in the mouse applet.  I'm told to reboot to complete installation.  However, if I do that, I'm back to square one, with the ultranav not working.  I checked the boot configuration, and it shows both the trackpoint and touchpad as enabled.

If that doesn't work then I would assume it's a hardware problem.

I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. The removal of trackpoint 3 click buttons, which were combined with the trackpad. People complain a lot when they accidentally click the trackpad while typing. I am a trackpoint person, not trackpad person. So the removal was **** retarded, anti consumer, anti Thinkpad legacy!Pls, see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb7p3VkQCOo. My X230 Tablet laptop hangs after booting or reawakening from stand-by. It happens every single time. It lasts for about 2-3 minutes, during which the cursor can be moved but nothing responds. The hard-drive status indicator is constantly on. After 2 or 3 minutes the laptop becomes responsive again and the problem doesn't return until I reboot. Sometimes the problem occurs immediately after booting, sometimes a few minutes later. I've had the problem since I got the laptop.

Hello all,I have 230X tablet and I upgraded it to windows 8.Since the upgrade, I feel that the power manager shows wrong time remaining, and every time I try to configure something with the power manager dashboard it crushes as "not responding".I read that the battery should last for 7+ hours, but after a full charge it shows only 3+ I also installed the latest driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't help. Does it sounds familiar? Does anyone has a solution? Thanks!

Answer:Power manager X230 Tablet

Hi, As far as I know, Lenovo has not supported Power Management for Windows 8 yet. What you said happends to me too. The time remaining is not accurate. Sometimes it drops from 25% to 10%, and the computer goes to sleeps after a few seconds... But after I reset my battery gauge, it solves the problem. By somehow, I discover that Power Management does work in Guest Account. You should perform Battery Gauge Reset in your Guest Account. Here is what I do: You should activate your Guest account (When you hit Windows key, type Accounts, Users accounts (in setting) -> Manage other Account -> Turn on GUEST account. You run battery reset there. (it takes long time since the computer will fully charge your battery and then completely discard and then chage again). Unfortunately, you cannot switch account during you perform battery reset and you cannot turn off computer during that time. It takes about ...12h to perform the task. But it works for me. The drawback of Guest account is you cannot connect to internet. I hope that LENOVO would support Power Management soon!. Too bad for a business laptop .

Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

Applies to being unplugged and plugged in. It's not due to have power consumption, usually just shuts off from within minutes of logging into my account. Safe mode seems to delay this problem for a while. Best way to go about fixing this? Malwarebytes doesnt detect any viruses.

I recently purchased a X230 type 3434-CTO Tablet (the one with gorilla glass). The first night I had it it worked great and I was incredibly happy with my purchase. Pen input will not function at all in tablet mode and intermitently in laptop mode. I began with restoring windows to before I updated, then reinstalled windows and all drivers ect. Nothing has worked so far. I brought it to the IT department at my school and they tried using older drivers ect, nothing has worked so far. I used the X230 Thinkpad Tablet in tablet mode and when I went back to use it as a laptop, the touchpad no longer works.  I can use the keyboard and use the touchscreen but not the touchpad.  When I go into the control panel for Windows 7 and the mouse settings, the touchpad options to activate are not available. The touchpad mouse works before I log into the machine, but when my desktop shows and I try to use the various programs, the touchpad is not activated. How do I get the touchpad to work again?

hello to all, my first post, I hope I'm not asking to much!  I want to make sure that the X230t fits my requirements.  First & foremost, does the X230 t measure 12" X 9" X 1.23" with or without battery installed? (so that it fits in my hard shell case) Secondly, when using the X230t to read a pdf doc, can you increase the size of text by using two finders on display and spreading fingers apart?   And can you move the pdf page by moving one finger on display? (if only portion of page is displayed) Can you have a pdf doc opened on half of display, while taking notes with digy pen on other half of the display? Can the digypen be used with word and excel?thanks, and have a great day

1. the measurement you have is with the 3 cells battery fitted, it is not the measurement for the X230 with 6 cells battery fitted. The 6 cells battery will add another 1 inch to the measurement of 9 inch. 2. Yes, you can zoom by pinch. The movement of page with one finger depends on type of pdf software you use. 3. Yes you can write on the screen whilst having a pdf doc opened on half of the screen. 4. Yes, you can with a digitiser pen in both the Excel and Word. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037681356/http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037657335/

Hey guys, I'm new on this forum and I'm also new in using X230 tablet or any 2-in-1 laptop. This is my second ThinkPad but first convertible laptop. About problems. Shortly after I've got this ThinkPad I've installed Windows 10 because in my opinnion it works better and IS better than Win7. But after installation, I've encountered a few problems.First problem was no auto rotation - I could do that only by installing drivers for Tablet Buttons (it didn't bother me that much as next few problems).Second problem was not working Dolby Profile - anyone has suggestions why? I've read that eccp4.exe or something like that is not supported in Win10. The only thing with Dolby that did work was Dolby Digital Plus (and the equalizer there is horrible!).And third, and also MAIN problem was random screen touches. Did anyone encountered this kind of problem on yours X230 tablet? It happened only when I was fully in "tablet mode". Like for example I was doing some notes on classes and A LOT of times Action Center came up. With no touch from my side - I was only writing notes or not even touching the screen. Also normal touches appeared, not only Action Center sliding. Firstly I've got a little scared because it's used laptop bought on something like ebay. But my second thought was to go back to Win7 from recovery (which didn't work with F8, I've used SWM/WIM tutorial to fully recover system). And finally it seems that this problem doesn't occur on Win7. When I'm in full "table... Read more

Answer:X230 tablet - Windows 10 and 7 problems

i've been running windows 10 as a devoloper since before its's launch with very few issues.First make sure you download the drives from lenovo for winows 10 that till fix most of your issues.some things are just not compatable with the windows 10 OS look for replacements in the windwos store but your dolby does have a driver update. for some reason the thinkvantage software does not down load the drivers for you you'll have to do that on your own. Once you download all your drivers your X230T will run much more normaly. keep in mind however if you have the touch screen model it only supports 2 finger touch while winows 10 supports 10, it still works but many of the gestures don't you can chage your screen if your so inclined as far as i know there is no driver update. Good luck

Hello! I just got a new X230 Tablet Notebook (with standard digitizer pen) and know nothing about it (got it as a work computer).  When I am on the basic Windows 7 login screen my pen works beauftifully.  Once I successfully log in it does not work at all.  In portrait tablet mode it will SOMETIMES register where I tap after a long delay.  It does not hover as it should and will never "click".  There is no response in landscape tablet mode. Please help!  Thanks! :-)

Answer:X230 Tablet [Brand New] Pen Issues

Hi, vgbornak

Though the machine is brand new, there may be a few updates available for the computer. I would recommend making sure that the BIOS is up to date, along with other drivers as necessary. The BIOS driver can be found here, and all the drivers available for the machine can be found here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

I am in the process of upgrading my X200 Tablet to the X230T. I had the ultrabase with the X200T with the following accessories Serial Ultrabay Slim DVD Multi (P/N 42T2515) and the ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter II (P/N 43R1984). I have yet to talk with anyone at Lenovo or read anywhere online if these two accessories with be compatible with the Thinkpad Series 3 Ultrabase. Does anyone have any further information. I would hope I would not need to purchase these again.

Answer:X230 Tablet Ultrabase Compatibility

they use the same type of connector and slots, so it should be compatible in that regard.

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

I have a microphone that works only as such, with no speaker and is not a headset.  I am trying to get it to work with my Lenovo x230 Tablet laptop.

When I plug it into the 3.5mm port on the right side next to the Ethernet input nothing happens and it doesn't show up in my windows sound or do anything except change the top left port under "Analog System" from gray to black.  Unfortunately that is the audio port not the microphone port.  This is shown by the next two pictures.Microphone not plugged in:

So something is up...I tried again by going to the "device advanced settings" and changing it from "classic mode" to "Multi-stream mode".This atleast shows in the windows control that there is a "external mic" and a "docking mic".  I have no idea what the docking mic is.  Anyway this picture below is what happens before I plug in the mic:

And now when I plug it in:

As you can see the windows controller is unchanged in the input recording tab but, the realtek program has detected the mic again by turning on the analog headphone button on.  As well as adding an extra tab to the program called "HD Audio 2nd output".  As far as I can tell t thinks my mic is a headset for some reason.  I wish to change this.  When I switch over to the sound tab on the windows program it shows an added headset which is actually it... When I start up my system, all appears to work OK.  Then, at some point both the pen and touch stop working.  When I turn the screen into laptop mode, I find that the mouse pointer and buttons work normally.  The only way to get the pen and touch to work again is to restart the computer. I ran the system update and all the drivers are up to date.  I also tried deleting all the input and screen drivers, and did a reinstall, but that didn't change anything. I'm wondering if it may be a BIOS issue, since I saw a posting that suggested that, but it was not for the x230. This is really driving me nuts...I'm out of ideas.

The reference guide is not very clear.  Is the X230 Tablet compatible with any of the USB 3.0 docking stations: ThinkPad Port Replicator Series 3 with USB 3.0 (433615W)ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 (433715U - U.S.)ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 ? 90W (433815U - U.S.)ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 ? 170W (433835U - U.S.)Officially, according to the guide it only shows the ultrabase, however when you search for accessories by selecting the X230 Tablet it brings up others, but not the USB 3.0 series.  The X230 Laptop is compatible. Although it may not be worth the price as it seems to only have 1 USB 3.0 port and the rest are 2.0, price seems to be a $40 premium for the 1 USB 3.0. When it is on the docking station does it lock out the native USB ports in the chassis of the X230T?  An older Toshiba I had reccomended against using the Laptops USB when docked. Thanks

Answer:X230 Tablet Docking Station Compatability

"Officially" X230T does not work with any mini docking station or port replicator. If you still prefer mini docking station than ultrabase, then you can take a look: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo/638559-x220-tablet-minidock-series-3-plus.html
