Why thinkpad x230 tablet without windows 8 installed from the factory? What is the real reason?

Question: Why thinkpad x230 tablet without windows 8 installed from the factory? What is the real reason?

I have been waiting for one year for the x230 tablet with the win8 installed, but unfortunately, Lenovo did nothing's, why it have to wait, rather than upgrade my self, I believe the current x230t ,s some function will not work , as Lenovo also remove win8 from their websiteX230 tablet as a top level business laptop without windows8 is unreasonable, as win8 already available for so long timeI also believe Lenovo will have to do something to produce x230t with windows8, or new x240t with win8, because too many thinkpad fans waiting for that

Preferred Solution: Why thinkpad x230 tablet without windows 8 installed from the factory? What is the real reason?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Why thinkpad x230 tablet without windows 8 installed from the factory? What is the real reason?

To be a windows 8 certified device with touch screen feature, it has to have at least 5 points touch. The X220t and X230t uses a 2 point touch screen, so they do not meet the minimum requirement for Windows 8.

Sometimes, it completely disconnected to the network. I tried to test with Speedtest. net and download a file via Internet Download manager. I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. The removal of trackpoint 3 click buttons, which were combined with the trackpad. People complain a lot when they accidentally click the trackpad while typing. I am a trackpoint person, not trackpad person. So the removal was **** retarded, anti consumer, anti Thinkpad legacy!Pls, see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb7p3VkQCOo. I did not made this video but 100% agree with this guy.  In addition, it seems to me that newer generations Intel core processor (4th and upcoming 5th) was weeker than ivy bridge processor because Ivy Bridge processors are full power 35W, now, everything is low powered to save the battery life. I have a few questions: 1.Is there anyway, or any company that can make a better thinkpad x230 tablet screen (say upgrading the screen from 1366x768 to higher resolution, improving wacom pen digitizer on the edges 2. Is there any laptop on the market that has express card or thunderbolt, touch screen, digitize... Read more

Hello,  I'm having some trouble with turning on my laptop. The problem originally started when some keys on my keyboard stopped working. I cleaned the keys, restarted my laptop, tried a previous restore point and then did a hard reset after nothing worked to fix my laptop.  After hard resetting, I tried turning on my laptop and it did not turn on. So far, I've plugged in my laptop into the adaptor, plugged the adaptor directly into the wall outlet, and removed the battery and plugged in the laptop. The one thing I have noticed with my laptop is that when I plug in the adaptor, the battery and sleep lights turn on for a moment, then the sleep light turns off, and the battery light will stay on momentarily but then it will blink off after a few seconds. What else should I do? Thank you

Hi everyone:I am considering to upgrade my wireless adapter for my laptop. Currently I am using Thinkpad X230 Tablet with Intel Centrino Wireless N 2200. My laptop has bluetooth. I have questions:1. Does the bluetooth come with my wireless adapter? I mean that If I upgrade my wireless card, do I have to buy a card with wifi and bluetooth? 2. I am considering to upgrade to Intel 62205 AN. This is the linkhttp://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=INT-62205&show=p Is that worth to upgrade? (functionality, price, ...)  Is the product compatible with my current Thinkpad X230T?  3. Can I install 2 cards and run silmultanerously . It sounds greedy but I know a software, named "connectify"; it allows laptop to connect many networks silmutanerously, for example: 4G, Lan, wifi.  4. I see some people mention about Intel Ultimate 6300. What additional functionalities do I get compared to 62205  or Intel 2200? Thank you.

Answer:Upgrade Wireless Adapter for Thinkpad X230 Tablet

1. Bluetooth and wireless cards are separate on the ThinkPad X220, X220t, X230, and X230s. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8276508687/in/set-721576320273504682. You would need an Intel 6205 card with Lenovo FRU number on it, generic one won't work. 2200 only operates in the 2.4 ghz bandwidth, while the 6205 can operate in both 2.4 and 5 ghz bandwidth. So the question is does your router have 5 ghz bandwidth and support MIMO?3. No you can't. The WWAN/mSATA slot would give an error message saying an unauthorized card is installed (1801 error). 4. 6300 card has 3 x 3 setup and operates in 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz range. Max speed of 450 mpbs6205 has 2 x 2 setup, 2.4/5 ghz range, and max speed of 300 mbps.2200 has 2 x 2 setup, but operates in the 2.4 ghz range and max speed of 300 mbps.

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

If it is under warranty, call for service, rather than dealing with it. The first step is to unplug it and remove the battery. Press the power button 5 times, holding it for 10 seconds on the last push. Put it back together; plug it in, and try again.

I have an issue that is plaguing my ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I cannot afford to be without it for a week to send it into the depot and am not sure they will be able to replicate the issue even if I do. Two things are happening. Tablet is placed in the docking station. Hi,

I bought a genuine x220/x230 battery. After I power on the laptop, I got a message: the laptop doesn't support this battery. I tried to update the bios but nothing happend. The power manager said the battery voltage, performance, cycles, LGC battery. If I unplugged the laptop, it is works so the laptop can use the battery just not charge. If it was not a genuine battery I can't see these description or I should also?

Maybe this is not compatible with my x230 because it compatible just x220 and the seller didn't know it?

I attached some photo about the problem. If anyone know anything about it please help me. Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad X230 'The battery installed is not supported and will not charge' problem

Good day and welcome to the community.

The X230 requires the 44-series batteries, which incorporated some new circuitry with which the x230 interacts. As you've found, the X230 will run from a charged 29-series battery, but will not recharge it. The X220 originally came with series 29-series batteries, but also works with the newer 44-series.

Regards.

In the Windows METRO mode, the touch keyboard will automatically come out when the focus is in a text field. In the Windows desktop mode, one way to get the Touch keyboard is:Click the key combination: Windows + C to bring up the Charm.Click the Settings.Click Keyboard and select the Touch Keyboard. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not remember the selection so the next time you click on a text field, you have to go through the process again. I hope MS will change this. Even better is if the X230T is in a tablet mode (meaning the screen is lay flat and on top of keyboard, it will be smart enough to use Touch Keyboard by default. Edit: Another way to display the Touch Keyboard is to click the Touch Keyboard icon at the task bar.

Hey guys, I'm new on this forum and I'm also new in using X230 tablet or any 2-in-1 laptop. This is my second ThinkPad but first convertible laptop. About problems. Shortly after I've got this ThinkPad I've installed Windows 10 because in my opinnion it works better and IS better than Win7. But after installation, I've encountered a few problems.First problem was no auto rotation - I could do that only by installing drivers for Tablet Buttons (it didn't bother me that much as next few problems).Second problem was not working Dolby Profile - anyone has suggestions why? I've read that eccp4.exe or something like that is not supported in Win10. The only thing with Dolby that did work was Dolby Digital Plus (and the equalizer there is horrible!).And third, and also MAIN problem was random screen touches. Did anyone encountered this kind of problem on yours X230 tablet? It happened only when I was fully in "tablet mode". Like for example I was doing some notes on classes and A LOT of times Action Center came up. With no touch from my side - I was only writing notes or not even touching the screen. Also normal touches appeared, not only Action Center sliding. Firstly I've got a little scared because it's used laptop bought on something like ebay. But my second thought was to go back to Win7 from recovery (which didn't work with F8, I've used SWM/WIM tutorial to fully recover system). And finally it seems that this problem doesn't occur on Win7. i've been running windows 10 as a devoloper since before its's launch with very few issues.First make sure you download the drives from lenovo for winows 10 that till fix most of your issues.some things are just not compatable with the windows 10 OS look for replacements in the windwos store but your dolby does have a driver update. for some reason the thinkvantage software does not down load the drivers for you you'll have to do that on your own. Once you download all your drivers your X230T will run much more normaly. keep in mind however if you have the touch screen model it only supports 2 finger touch while winows 10 supports 10, it still works but many of the gestures don't you can chage your screen if your so inclined as far as i know there is no driver update. Good luck

When I updated Windows 10 to the newest Version (Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit, Version 1607 Build 14393.82) the autorotate on my Thinkpad X230 Tablet is not working anymore. Using the rotate button the screen rotation changes but there is no screen change when putting the laptop into tablet mode or when rotating the laptop. With the "old" Windows 10 I had no problems with the autorotate function. I observe the following behaviour/errors:In the action center the button rotation lock is present, but doesn't change / unlock the rotation (it says it changes but the icon always stays on locked and there is no change). In the device manager the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 is listed under "unknown".Under "sensors" there were no entries. A windows lcation provider is not availabe.Using the SensorDiagnosticTablet.diagcab it says that the windows location is turned off and cannot be turned on but in the action center/location the location service is "on".When I open the Lenovo Airbag Protection, the little laptop is moving according to the external inputs, so there is some detection of the motion. In the Tablet Shortcut Menu the button for enable autorotate is on and the laptop was calibrated. I already reinstalled all the drivers from the lenovo site (active protection system, dependencies, settings dependencies, graphics). Answer:X230 Tablet Windows 8 Pen Handwriting software

Hi, hmandi01

In Windows 8, writing-to-text transcription is normally a "keyboard," if you will, that you have to select. When you are on the desktop of your machine, is there a keyboard icon on the taskbar? If this is not visible in laptop mode, then see if it is there in tablet mode. If that icon is visible, click on it. This should bring up the touch keyboard. On this keyboard, the bottom-right key should be another keyboard icon. Select this icon and then select the pen option (third option.) This should change the touch keyboard into a transcription keyboard.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.
Adam

I got my X230 Tablet recently and want to run it under Windows 8. After upgrading yesterday, the Touch Screen refuses to work: the position is always in the bottom right corner, but clicking is recognized. The effect is that all windows are closed and opened alternately when touching the screen. Quite annoying, in particular as in Windows 8 the Touch screen would be actually very useful. I updates all drivers and bios, as far as possible, but the Touch Screen behavior remained. Somebody suggested that a clean installation of Windows 8 does lead to a well working Touch Screen. I tried it once, but after about two hours of computer work, Windows came back with the message that the installation failed, and thus I stay with my non working Touch Screen. What do I have to do to get my Touch Screen working again? The Wacom Pen is fine, so I can live with the X230 for the time being, but working with my fingers on the screen would be actually nice - and it beats those iBooks by lengths. Who has ideas?

Hello,First, yes, I realize Windows 8 is not generally available yet, however, a solution may already exist considering the imminent release.I have a X230 Tablet with Windows 8 Enterprise. The 2 USB 3 ports are working, but only at USB 2 speeds (same transfer rates when hooking up a USB 3 device to either of those ports as I get hooking up to the AlwaysOn port on the other side (more or less 25 MB/sec).I never had Windows 7 on this tablet, so I don't have a comparison. However, on a X201 Tablet with a PCIExpress USB 3 add-in card I get transfer speeds of at least 100 MB/sec, which is about as close as you can get I think.Windows 8's (Microsoft's) USB 3 xHCI driver is installed (version 6.2.9200.16420).Are there better drivers available? Am I missing a setting somewhere (in the BIOS perhaps)? Thanks for any assistance,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet USB 3 performs at USB 2 speeds (Windows 8)

I thought I already had checked the most obvious UEFI settings, but I guess not. In the USB category, there is a USB 3 option which was set to Auto. Based on the description, that looks like a good setting. However, I changed it to enabled, and now I have transferred rates of about 75 MB/sec. Still not as good as possible with some other controllers, but hopefully some better drivers are forthcoming.SA.

Hello, I recently upgraded to windows 8 and I have everything working so far except for the webcam. I've installed the drivers so that when I go into device manager under Imaging devices it lists Integrated Camera and Camera Plus and device manager says both of these are updated and working the fine. However, when I use the Camera app which I get to from Windows 8 metro all I see is a cartoon of a camera crossed out. The yellow webcam light does turn on, but it's not working. The same thing happens when I try to do a video recording in Microsoft OneNote 2007, which I used to be able to do.  I've tried to uninstall the webcam drivers and reinstall it, but it still isn't working. I've tried doing hardware scans and update scans in the Lenovo Solutions Center but it says everything is fine. Any suggestions would be really helpful. If I can't get everything to work in Windows 8 I'm switching back to Windows 7, which I made a backup disc of. Thanks,-Noora

Answer:X230 tablet Windows 8 upgrade, webcam not working

I think I finally fixed it actually, sorry about that. I just kept installing drivers from the Lenovo website and it's working now. The camera program that you access through Metro says the camera is only 0.9 pixels though, and I thought the camera was more than that.  Is there a way to tell if I've installed all the necessary drivers? I have done multiple software scans with Lenovo Solution Center but even when the camera wasn't working it said I had no updates, so that's why I kept installing drivers from the website.  Also, does anyone know the driver to make the wacom pen right click button work? I really miss that One thing I think is better with Windows 8 actually is the screen orientation change button. It's way faster than in Windows 7! I also like that it doesn't do it automatically, because I don't always want it automatic.

Same problem here. The Sierra MC8355 WWAN card is recognized and using the generic Windows 10 driver but all the time I am getting the message "account not activated" though a valid SIM card has been inserted.

Anybody got ideas about this one?

Very annoying as WWAN is essential to my work.
Thanks in advance.

I recently bought a X230 tablet. Actually I did not realise that it can rotate screen in tablet mode automatically, at least in Windows 7 and Windows 8. I performed a clean install of Windows 10 and obviously it did not support auto rotate even with all the drivers that Lenovo System Updater helped me installed. One thread in this forum solved auto rotate in Windows 8. It is largely the same to that thread. Except that for Windows 10 you need to let the X230 recognise the built in accelerometer which is actually mainly intended for protecting hard drive from being damaged after free fall. Incidentally accelerometer found its way in Sony's hard drive walkman HD5 before, which also has hard drive accidentally falling protection and screen auto rotating function. All you need is 2 pieces of software: 1. Thinkpad Tablet Shortcut menu                                                                 2. Thinkpad Active Protection System. The 2nd file is the one that will allow the accelerometer come to life. Installing this 2 software and the needed reboot. go to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\ThinkPad\Tablet Shortcut\' and double click on 'LENTBCTL' to run it. Then use your stylus to click the 'Settings' button at the lower left corner. Then you will find 'auto rotating' option. Tick the box ahead of it and following t... Read more

Microsoft looks poised to take the same approach with Windows 10. Once the new operating system debuts, the company will count on app sales to drive revenue. Windows 10 will run re-worked Android and iOS apps, which means there is a massive potential number of software packages that developers might like to have available on the many computers that will likely run the new Windows version.
But don't think Microsoft is getting touchy-feely. The software maker's chief operating office recently spoke about moving from one-time licensing fees to an "annuity conversion," meaning that the company may still be trying to figure out how to loop people, or at least corporations, into paying an annual fee.

I am not sure how Microsoft would handle an "annuity conversion" on an OEM computer but they would lose me as a customer if Windows went to a subscription model or one where no program was allowed to be installed unless from the store.

I have just done a clean install of Windows 8 on my X230 tablet.  Before installing Windows 8 I installed the most recent BIOS for this machine (version 2.50).  After installing Windows 8 I installed System Update from the Lenovo Website and downloaded all the recommended drivers and other files.  I've also installed all the latest Windows 8 updates. Here are the symptoms of my problem: After resuming from standby/sleep mode, my USB ports do not work.  My computer has two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 ports.  All exhibit the same behavior.  After resuming from standby mode I have tried inserting both my mouse and a USB thumbdrive, but neither are recognized.  After restarting Windows, the USB ports work again... until I resume from standby mode again. I hope there is a solution to this issue.  It is very frustrating.

Answer:USB ports don't work after resuming from standby with Windows 8 on X230 tablet

You can try this (semi-shot in the dark but it's solved similar issues for me in the past with Windows 8/X220 and the Tablet not working after resuming from standby).  Go to control panel, find your USB device(s) and go to the properties for the one or however many devices are listed that apply, and in the properties, find a tab or section related to power management and uncheck the box that "allows computer/windows to turn off the device to save power". Perhaps it's not the most elegant solution, perhaps it's not a solution at all in your case, but at least here I've found it effective in some cases but I don't know if it's draining more power while sleeping than it otherwise would..   Hope it works as at least a temporary workaround to your frustrations though.. good luck.

Hello all,

This is the first time I've ever had to post on a tech forum to assist me in an issue, but I'm at an absolute loss.

A friend of mine was having trouble with his Dell Inspiron 1525, informing me that every time he booted the machine normally, it would freeze. He's not exactly computer savvy, so the machine wound up in my care to be diagnosed and fixed. I'm only a computer programmer, but I'm not exactly a slouch.

Safe mode and safe mode with networking work perfectly. Thinking the issue was just a plethora of viruses, I downloaded SuperAntiSpyware and Windows Defender and began cleaning out around a dozen or so pieces of malware and spyware from my friend's computer. I figured I had done my job and rebooted the computer normally. No go--- the issue still remain unresolved.

I'll describe the problem in more detail. I can get to the Windows Vista login screen just fine, and I'm even able to log in and get to the desktop... for about a minute. Then the machine locks to the point where I can only use the mouse and nothing else. I was able to get both Task Manager and Process Explorer working, and there is nothing taking up 100% of the processing power before the machine locks up. There was a svchost that took up 20-30% of the processing power but PE showed nothing abnormal with it, and I've even seen the computer freeze when that process was down to 0%. The physical memory seems a bit high at 850+ but nothing that should lock up the machine. The lockup time is ... Read more

Since Safemode works fine, the problem is likely a start-up app.

Use SysInternals AutoRuns - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...rnals/bb963902

Go through "startup" entries 1-by-1, uncheck a box, see if you can boot into normal Windows.

Hi there. My son did a foolish thing...he let his friend at university install Windows Vista Ultimate on his laptop, Inspiron 6000 that was factory installed with Windows XP. The Vista now needs a product code entered, so it no longer runs.

I have been trying for 3 days to do a complete re-format and recovery of his laptop back to Dell factory settings with the Windows XP. I cannot get anything to work. Any directions that I have found it says you need the Vista DVD so you can recover the "windows.old" files.

Any suggestions on what I can do to reformat and recover this computer? Thanks.

In your start menu, click computer, double click c drive, look for a folder that says backup or restore to xp. A friend of mine did the same thing and this option was there, not sure if it will be on yours but look and see. ed

Hey hi After finally recovering my system to factory settings. I have a question and please bear with me. If i upgrade(not clean install) to windows 8 pro, how will it affect my Lenovo_Recovery partition? Will I be able to if in case required,  revert back to my windows 7 factory setting using F11 keys during boot up? Or this functionality will get erased and my recovery partition will be of no use. Also if i do clean install, I have read it that your windows will not activate as its an upgrade. In that case you need to call Microsoft and explain them your predicament and if its your lucky day you might get it activated. There are some other methods probably not legal to overcome this. Please share your view on that. Also how would re-clean install will affect the activation/system? Please reply. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad X230 Windows 8 pro upgrade

Hi, neeraj_schrody

I've never personally done this upgrade, but I think it should technically work like you think it would. If an upgrade to Windows 8 is performed, then this should be installed over the partition that Windows 7 is using, which is not the recovery partition. If you made sure that the recovery partition was not formatted during the upgrade, then I believe it would remain there and the system would be recoverable through this. However, please keep in mind that this is what should be technically possible and is my thoughts, not a fact.

As far as the activation goes, I do not think you will run into any issues. These errors in your post normally only occur when certain criteria for updating are not met. Provided you are running a legitimate copy of Windows 7, which you are, there should be no issues when upgrading.

Hope it helps,Adam

Hello, I just bough an old ThinkPad X230 yesterday and the machine came preloaded with Windows 8 Pro (There is also a Genuine Color-changing Stamp of Windows 8 applied to the base of the ThinkPad). I immediately updated to Windows 10 without any problems as the Windows was activated automatically and everything is working just fine now. However, I'm planning to replace the hdd originally installed in my X230 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD to boost up performance, but I have no ideas what to do to keep my Windows genuine after installing Windows in the new SSD.There are posts confirm that the activation key is embedded into the bios of some sort so the Windows will be automatically activated no matter what kind of hardware change I make. Is this right? I really need your help and deeply appreciate all your information.Thank you

Answer:Thinkpad X230 Windows 7-64: problems with screen after updates

Hi Isosik,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with display resolution on your ThinkPad X230.

If you have updated the drivers from Windows update, sometimes this kind of issue occurs with windows generic drivers because of incompatibility of driver, suggest always update the drivers only through ThinkVantage system update utility. Update only Microsoft application from Windows update.

You can also download the drivers manually from the Lenovo support site.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I do have X230 , and recently i Have decided to buy LTE modem (WWAN) because i'm traveling a lot and need internet access. Also in Poland we have Aero2 nation wide network with very cheap data packets (1$ for 3 GB, or 5$ for 30GB for 30 days) so it is a lot of data as for "backup" connection. So i Have ordered Sierra WIreless MC7700 because that card is whitelisted in Bios and can be used on that particular machine. And..... card was not working at all, GPS not working, i Have started downloading GPS enablers and drivers for that card from lenovo but it was a time when windows 10 was "new" there were problems with drivers etc. but i have managed to get it working. everything was fine till the day that i Have ordered 16 GB of RAM and LITEON 256 GB SSD drive to make the mashine a bit more efficent. I had to install Clean copy of WIN 10 because of drive swap, and now i cannot connect with WWAN. The card is shown in device manager, i see it in notification center, alsow in control panel internet settings I do have Mobile listed. But it does not want to "see" the simcard. That is exactly the same simcard as before, and the simcard when inserted to the external mobile hotspot or phone is working flowlesly. Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2½" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2½" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I have an IBM ThinkPad X41 that was issued to me from work. I would like to reinstall the operating system to get rid of all the garbage that's on it. But, they don't have the CD's that came with the laptop. The COA on the bottom of the X41 is for WinXP Pro Tablet Edition. But, I don't have a copy in the office and they can't find it anywhere. Should I install Windows XP Professional on it or should I somehow contact IBM for the CD's to be reissued?

Any ideas???

Hi everyone,

I have Windows 10 installed on an SSD drive, everything is installed on the SSD except my games libraries wich are on a HDD.

It has the fall update installed (and all updates available also installed).

For some reason windows is constantly reading the HDD and slows everything down (specially in games), i know it's the HDD because i hear it lound & clear, not based on the HDD LED that will blink also with SDD access.

This instalation is the same i had on the last 3 motherboard/cpu combos i had, it was running originaly on a kingston SATA 120Gb SSD, and is now on a Samsung Evo 960 M2 MVNE 250GB SSD (i cloned the content from the kingston to the samsung).

I think the problem started when i switched the SSDs, and i had the problem on my previous motherboard/CPU.

The System is in dual-boot with Kodi LibreELEC, the boot partition and both systems are on the SSD, as i said, only the games libraries are on the HDD.

When i run Kodi LibreElec the HDD is never accessed.

I tried disabling the page file on the HDD, but it is still being constantly used, i tried troubleshooting what is accessing the HDD and all i saw are windows processes, i just don't know why, do you guys have any clues where to look.

If any further information/detail is needed just say so and i will fill in the details.

Many thanks in advance!

Post Win10 upgrade and "Disk Cleanup" with the option to "Clean up system files" of "Previous Windows installation(s)"; both files RCUVCx64.sys and RCUVCAVS.sys could not be deleted.  What are these old files?  And does this imply that the device driver does not exist if I did a fresh Win10 installation without residual from the previous Windows?  If they are obsolete device drivers, when can we expect an upgrade release to support Win10?

Answer:ThinkPad X230 upgraded to Win10 having RCUVCx64.sys and RCUVCAVS.sys under 'C:\Windows.old' folder

Ok guys, here's the deal.
I bought the Windows 7, clean install disk, then like 2, or three days later, it freaking crashes.
Here's the 'symptoms':
1: The windows themselves start to lag.
2: The tool bar will freeze.
3: Sometimes; it won't shut off.
4: I try to boot and it says "Start startup repair, and won't boot into Windows.
I run the startup repair, and it fixes absolutely NOTHING! I had even called Microsoft, and was on the phone with them for like 2 hours.
All these people tell me to update drivers, but I downloaded a Windows 7 Compatibility program FROM Microsoft and it said that my laptop was ok. PLEASE HELP! (BTW all this other stuff about Reg Cleaners, etc, dnt work, so PLEASE don't tell me that.)

Hello guys,
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad 8 tablet which came with windows 8.1 and I was very happy with it. After I upgraded to windows 10 things were smoot at first but recently I noticed a noticeable battery drain even if the device is in sleep mode (battery drains completely in 8-10hours even in sleep mode). But the most frustrating things are the apps not working. Mail, calendar, maps, photos, even OneNote and Wunderlist. I would like to reinstall the whole device but I am not sure how to proceed. Should I do the factory reset back to Win 8.1 losing the free Win 10 upgrade or should i do a clean install of Win 10? Is it even possible to do a clean Win 10 install if I don´t have the product key? Is it worth keeping Win 10 in an 8 inch tablet?

So yesterday i got my new Windows 10 tablet. It's a Lamina T-1016. It's a Nordic version of the Linx tablets. I started downloading updates but the download failed multiple times, taking more and more space every time i tried downloading again and i couldn't find where the updates are stored.
Since i only have 32GB internal storage, my storage was filling up fast because of these stupid updates. So when i finally manage to download and install the updates, i remembered that i just should have installed the "Anniversary Update" right away instead of installing those updates for my current Windows 10 version.
I have a MicroSD card in the tablet too and "my profile" is supposedly on that SD card.
So during the installation of the new Anniversary Update, the installer got stuck on the same number, over and over again, probably because i didn't have enough space left after all those other updates.
So i decided to do a Factory Reset. Restarted my computer and then started the Factory reset. But it got stuck on 6% all the time. It was probably trying to find the "My Profile" folder since it was located on my MicroSD card (Supposedly). I restarted my computer about 4 times during the reset until the computer stopped working.
When i start up my computer, i only get to the "Lamina" Logo and then i turn off it self.
I can enter the whatever it's called menu, you know the menu that allows you to boot from USB and other locations and device settings and stuff. I have 2 USB ports, maybe... Read more

I have a real doozy hereMy tablet - Dell Venue 8 Pro - was having a lot of issues and I was also running out of space so I decided to factory reset it (which I have done many times before). It got to 64% and it was stuck there for over 3 hours. I then made the foolish decision to hold the power button so it would turn off and then back on with the hope the install to get going (I realize that was not logical at all). It kept giving me a prompt saying it got interrupted. pressing either of the available buttons would cause the device to restart and show the prompt again and again. So I decided to hold the power button again. Now my device is in an infinite boot loop where it shows the Dell logo for about 10 seconds, then the dell logo shifts about a half inch downwards, then it flashes the windows 10 installation percentage screen (64%) and quickly turns off and repeats the process indefinitely. I don't think there is a solution for this because I really got it screwed up. But if there is anything that I can try please tell me!message edited by noside19907

Answer:Dell tablet reboot loop while factory resetting Windows 10

You probably need to contact Dell on this. Unlike a laptop or desktop, if the factory restore cannot be restarted, there is not much else you can do without Dell. .... or wait for other opinions on this. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I was reviewing my homegroup and sharing settings in Windows 7 and trying to get my media to stream on my networked HDTV, when a device driver just autonomously installed on Windows 7. Right before it happened, I was cancelling out of a folder properties window, and then I noticed that Windows was installing a new device driver, even though nothing new was plugged in. The device driver had a generic name, "media device driver", I think.

To me, device drivers installing surreptitiously on a system is suspicious behavior. Should I be concerned? I did a full system scan with MBAM and it came up clean.

Question: X230 Tablet newbie

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Lenovo X230 Tablet. Specificly a 3434-CTR.

Now, as far as I know, a X230 tablet should have a multitouch screen and pressure sensitive built in Wacom tablet.

I just got this machine and it has a pre-installed copy of Windows 7 64bit Professional on it so I would gather that it has all necesery drivers already installed.

Problem is, the touch screen simply doesn't work - it doesn't respond to my fingers at all. It does work with the stylus pen, though. But it doesn't support pressure sensitivity. I tried using a portable drawing program that has never failed to work with any pressure sensitive pen tablet but it simply didn't work.

I'm guessing that there are some drivers I should install, but I don't know what to look for.

Is it possible that a 3434-CTR doesn't have a multitouch screen nor a pressure sensitive pen tablet?

Welcome to the community.

You may wish to visit the Parts Lookup page. Fill in your S/N and machine type (3434) and it should return a list of parts that went into your build. Either post the whole list back here, or, if it's obvious, post the P/Ns for the LCD panel and we can try to assist further.

I just received my second non-tablet X230 after my first one didn't work out. The new one has Windows 8 Pro loaded on it and I noticed that many of the programs were optimized for a touch screen by default, I also had the touch keyboard button on the taskbar. This is not a huge deal, but does anyone know if there is a way to remove "Pen and Touch" support or fix this error. Is there a way to specify different actions for the pen buttons?  For example, when using one specific program, I'd like the side button to function as if it were the shift key instead of the right-click but then have it operate as the standard right-click when in Windows or other programs. Is this a native functionality or is there a third-party program available that could give me such options?

Answer:X230 Tablet Pen Options

aardvarky, This is an excellent question! I definitely understand your wants! Officially, it needs to be a setting inside the software you want to use the digitizer pen in.

Examples:

With the new TBT2 there is a software called QuickSnip, insdie the QuickSnip settings you can change the digitizer pen button from right click to screen capture.

Inside OneNote you can change the settings of the Pen Buttons, here is a link to a X230T Digitizer Pen Input Youtube video that may have more clairification.

So, as Digitizer Pen Technology becomes more popular, I believe we will begin seeing more Applications and Software adding the technology to enhance their user customizations.

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Answer:Help Me Choose My Tablet - Thinkpad Tablet 2, Vivotab, Acer W700, Etc.

I forgot to add one more question. how responsive legacy apps (desktop mode) is to your finger? Do i really need a pen or it doesnt help either? Because acer w700 doesnt come with a pen so it's also a crucial question for me

I see a subject line which already asks this question in the knowledgebase, however I can't open the link so I'm asking this question as a duplicate, my apologies in advance..So, basically, is this possible?  I don't see any Win-7 drivers available for the TP Tablet 2.  I'm assuming that Windows 7 isn't supported then, unless I attempt to load the Win-8 drivers on a Win-7 install.I'm quite disappointed with the TP Tablet 2 running Windows 8.  The response times on anything from opening a webpage, changing to another webpage, opening apps, etc is very slow.  I was hoping that if Windows 7 was supported, then I might just get better performance with this tablet however it could just end up with the same performance for all I know.  I won't know until I try but I don't want to go through the install process just to find out that I don't have any driver support for Win-7. I'm thinking that I should have purchased a Helix... TBD... Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you!!!

Answer:Can I run Windows 7 on the ThinkPad Tablet

Windows 7 won't run natively on the TPT2. My TPT2 response time is okay, i uninstalled any apps and softwares that i don't need. What do you have running on the background of your system?

Hello All, Ive been having a couple of problems with my x230 and i think it is time for a factory restore. Ive done a factory restore before with the media discs that lenovo had sent me . But for some reason when i try to do this (pressing f11 on boot up) it says "The product recovery function has been removed from this system". Does anyone know how to fix this? Please Help, Thanks

Answer:X230 Factory Restore

If you have Windows Recovery media from Lenovo don't press F11. Just select boot drive in BIOS setup menu or by press F12.Error message you see means there are no System_DRV or/and Lenovo_Recovery partitions on your laptop.

Applies to being unplugged and plugged in. It's not due to have power consumption, usually just shuts off from within minutes of logging into my account. Safe mode seems to delay this problem for a while. Best way to go about fixing this? Malwarebytes doesnt detect any viruses.

I'm thinking specifically of the GOBI WWAN card - I'm pretty sure the rest of it is the same globally. Will the GOBI card work with UK mobile broadband, or do I need to get an Ericsson card to replace it ?

Hello! I just got a new X230 Tablet Notebook (with standard digitizer pen) and know nothing about it (got it as a work computer).  When I am on the basic Windows 7 login screen my pen works beauftifully.  Once I successfully log in it does not work at all.  In portrait tablet mode it will SOMETIMES register where I tap after a long delay.  It does not hover as it should and will never "click".  There is no response in landscape tablet mode. Please help!  Thanks! :-)

Answer:X230 Tablet [Brand New] Pen Issues

Hi, vgbornak

Though the machine is brand new, there may be a few updates available for the computer. I would recommend making sure that the BIOS is up to date, along with other drivers as necessary. The BIOS driver can be found here, and all the drivers available for the machine can be found here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

My X230 Tablet laptop hangs after booting or reawakening from stand-by. It happens every single time. It lasts for about 2-3 minutes, during which the cursor can be moved but nothing responds. The hard-drive status indicator is constantly on. After 2 or 3 minutes the laptop becomes responsive again and the problem doesn't return until I reboot. Sometimes the problem occurs immediately after booting, sometimes a few minutes later. I've had the problem since I got the laptop.

Answer:X230 Tablet hangs after booting

It still happens after a diagnostic boot, with all services stopped.

Hello all,I have 230X tablet and I upgraded it to windows 8.Since the upgrade, I feel that the power manager shows wrong time remaining, and every time I try to configure something with the power manager dashboard it crushes as "not responding".I read that the battery should last for 7+ hours, but after a full charge it shows only 3+ I also installed the latest driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't help. Does it sounds familiar? Does anyone has a solution? Thanks!

Answer:Power manager X230 Tablet

Hi, As far as I know, Lenovo has not supported Power Management for Windows 8 yet. What you said happends to me too. The time remaining is not accurate. Sometimes it drops from 25% to 10%, and the computer goes to sleeps after a few seconds... But after I reset my battery gauge, it solves the problem. By somehow, I discover that Power Management does work in Guest Account. You should perform Battery Gauge Reset in your Guest Account. Here is what I do: You should activate your Guest account (When you hit Windows key, type Accounts, Users accounts (in setting) -> Manage other Account -> Turn on GUEST account. You run battery reset there. (it takes long time since the computer will fully charge your battery and then completely discard and then chage again). Unfortunately, you cannot switch account during you perform battery reset and you cannot turn off computer during that time. It takes about ...12h to perform the task. But it works for me. The drawback of Guest account is you cannot connect to internet. I hope that LENOVO would support Power Management soon!. Too bad for a business laptop .

Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

Answer:x230 Tablet keyboard issue

I would just replace the keyboard.  This sort of problem is almost always a short in the keyboard.  Used ones are commonly available.  The T430, X230, T530, W530 all use the same keyboard

Is there any way to customize this button? I have installed windows 8 (and now finally have almost everything working to my liking!) and would rather not have it launch SimpleTap. If possible I would like it to default to the standard desktop setting.

Answer:x230 Tablet "Black Button"

I have not discovered a way revamp the Black Button without changing the registry, However, this may be a good alternative for you to create your own hard shortcuts in Windows 8:

Use the [Win-Logo]+[D] to see the Windows-8 desktop.
Right click on the Windows-8 desktop and select New, Shortcut.
Then in the called input box simply enter the appropriate shortcut text.
(found under the properties of the desired program)
Once a desktop shortcut is made, right click the shortcut, press properties and shortcut key replace none with the key or key combination you would like to use.

Then Pin the Desktop Shortcut to Start (Menu). To do this right click on the desktop shortcut and select "Pin to Start"

I also thought I would share the official Windows 8 shortcuts with you.

I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet.  The trackpoint and touchpad have stopped working.  This just happened today, after about six months of use.  When I boot the machine, I can move the mouse cursor for a few seconds, but then it stops.  I don't see any error messages.  The Ultranav panel in the mouse control panel applet shows the controls for both trackpoint and touchpad greyed out--they can't be clicked on, and the "enabled" boxes are not checked.  The device manager says that the device is working.  If I try to update the driver, I'm told it is up to date.  If I uninstall the driver and reboot, the trackball and touchpad work, but they seem to be using generic drivers--the ultranav panel does not show in the mouse applet.  I'm told to reboot to complete installation.  However, if I do that, I'm back to square one, with the ultranav not working.  I checked the boot configuration, and it shows both the trackpoint and touchpad as enabled.

If that doesn't work then I would assume it's a hardware problem.

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

I am in the process of upgrading my X200 Tablet to the X230T. I had the ultrabase with the X200T with the following accessories Serial Ultrabay Slim DVD Multi (P/N 42T2515) and the ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter II (P/N 43R1984). I have yet to talk with anyone at Lenovo or read anywhere online if these two accessories with be compatible with the Thinkpad Series 3 Ultrabase. Does anyone have any further information. I would hope I would not need to purchase these again.

they use the same type of connector and slots, so it should be compatible in that regard.

hello to all, my first post, I hope I'm not asking to much!  I want to make sure that the X230t fits my requirements.  First & foremost, does the X230 t measure 12" X 9" X 1.23" with or without battery installed? (so that it fits in my hard shell case) Secondly, when using the X230t to read a pdf doc, can you increase the size of text by using two finders on display and spreading fingers apart?   And can you move the pdf page by moving one finger on display? (if only portion of page is displayed) Can you have a pdf doc opened on half of display, while taking notes with digy pen on other half of the display? Can the digypen be used with word and excel?thanks, and have a great day

1. the measurement you have is with the 3 cells battery fitted, it is not the measurement for the X230 with 6 cells battery fitted. The 6 cells battery will add another 1 inch to the measurement of 9 inch. 2. Yes, you can zoom by pinch. The movement of page with one finger depends on type of pdf software you use. 3. Yes you can write on the screen whilst having a pdf doc opened on half of the screen. 4. Yes, you can with a digitiser pen in both the Excel and Word. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037681356/http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037657335/

I recently purchased a X230 type 3434-CTO Tablet (the one with gorilla glass). The first night I had it it worked great and I was incredibly happy with my purchase. At the end of the night I began installing an update for windows and let it run overnight. The next day I encountered severe problems with the touch screen. Pen input will not function at all in tablet mode and intermitently in laptop mode. I began with restoring windows to before I updated, then reinstalled windows and all drivers ect. Nothing has worked so far. I brought it to the IT department at my school and they tried using older drivers ect, nothing has worked so far. I am increidbly frustrated, has anyone else encountered this  or a similar issue? Thank you for your time and thought

welcome to the community. sorry you're having troubles.have you tried to recover the system to factory-delivered state via the on-disk recovery process? or did you make the factory recovery dvd set, which you could use with an external dvd drive? please post back more specifics about what condition your machine is in. ie, data and docs backed up, ready to have a new or factory install done, etc.

Alright so I got a used IBM Thinkpad X41 from my uncle which had windows xp installed on it. He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased. Some specs on the X41:Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong).  Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says: Media Test Failure, Check CableExiting Broadcom PXE ROMOperating System Not Found Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover. The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order. If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that. I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders. Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.

Answer:Installing Windows XP to Thinkpad X41 (Not Tablet)

Welcome to the forum! Fastest and probably least painful way around this is to buy or borrow a USB CD-ROM and take it from there... Good luck.

MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES BETA RELEASE OF WINDOWS TP
REDMOND, WA (MAR. 31) BUSINESS WIRE - Microsoft Corp. announced Thursday that a beta release of Windows TP, the telepathic operating system, was released to 1,500 test sites worldwide.

Developed using the soon-to-be released Microsoft C for Neurons, Windows TP bypasses awkward user interfaces by interacting directly with the user's brain. Using the Microsoft MindMouse, users can visualize images in their mind, and the application associated with that image (or "thought icon") is executed. Users can visualize pictures to create Windows Bitmap images, or think text directly into Windows applications. Windows TP is fully compatible with all previous versions of Windows.

Data stored under Windows TP can be copied into the user's short- term memory (the Windows TP Clipboard), or transferred directly into the user's long-term memory using Windows' new 32-bit Direct Neuron Access technology. Users can then plug into other Windows TP systems to transfer the data.

Microsoft also announced the first application developed exclusively for Windows TP. CyberMail is a mental mail system designed to transfer messages by thought. Users visualize the person or company logo they want to send a message to, followed by the message to send. Microsoft has had a beta version of the application in use for several months.
