X230T Loose hinge?

Question: X230T Loose hinge?

I am constantly moving my computer between laptop and tablet mode. After all of the twisting, the hinge doesn't seem to be as sturdy. The screen is a bit floppier. Does anyone know if there is a way to tighten the hinge?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: X230T Loose hinge?

Hi Bjc92,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m really sorry to hear that hinges of your Lenovo X230T had become loose after continuous switching between tablet and laptop mode.

Please refer to pages 67 & 103 in this user guide to see how to remove or fix hinge cap/ hinges.

Also, note that the hinges on laptops often become loose through wear and tear and will result in a screen that will not stay in place. In that case, tightening the hinges alone might not help resolve the issue. The hinges may have to be replaced.

Hope this information helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi X230t fellows, I'm just curious a little today about the 2 plastic pieces, which I temporailly call them to be "sidepad/latch" (Look the figure below). One of them is near the "tab" key, and the other one is near the "enter" key. What I just noticed is that the one on the right (near the enter key), feel very solid and tight, but the one on the left (near the tab key) is not, I could wiggle it a little bit and its base seem to be smaller than the one on the right side, which perhaps create the wiggling. I'm not so sure if this is the way it is designed. I ask my friend and he said he also have this result, so I guess lenovo does this to all systems. I just don't understand why? They should be rock solid both right? Someone know the reason behind this? I heard these piece of plastics broken off on lots of X220t, so not sure if this is some sort of improvement? I'm satisfied with the system so far, everything run smoothly and the keyboard feel so nice, the microphone/skype experience still not good though, I probably need to configure the mic a little more, it is definitely better than the x220t one

Answer:X230t latch/sidepad one loose, one tight, reasons?

I noticed that on the X220T when it first came out (which was returned because digitizer inaccuracy problems on the edges).I just thought it was a problem of quality control, and that I was just unlucky.I ordered a X230T for myself yesterday because the price was so good ($1100 with 3 year warranty, i5, bt, intel6205, webcam), I hope mine isn't too loose. I wish they had built it more sturdy or just used the old style latch lock system.

I just got my X230T couple days ago, and have been evaluating it. The performance and upgradeability is very good, but I find the build quality poor. Seriously, a dummy cover on the fingerprint slot?I found a major concern and want to ask people if you guys have the same thing. The hinge is very stiff (to be clear, it feels "solid stiff" and not "insanely stiff"), and when I change to tablet mode, the glass that covers the screen shows as if is getting a lot of pressure and it shows some bumps on the bottom edge of the screen. (EDIT: Actually it shows that bump even in laptop mode.) It kind of looks like when you put electric tape to cover couple of uneven surfaces together. It doesn't effect visibility of the LCD or colors, but I'm just worried that one day the glass might crack from there. There are actually two spots along that bottom edge, but picture only shows one right above the hinge. Please see the photo, and tell me do anyone of your X230T has this? This picture just shows the screen is raised a little bit on upper left corner.

Recently, the left hinge has become loose on my HP Envy after having it for over a year and a half with no issues. While my warranty has expired, I have discovereed that this is a common manufacterer's issue for this product, so I was wondering what options HP offered for this problem since it is not the fault of the customer.

The right hinge on my M 30 is to loose. I have tryed to dismantle the keyboard without succes, what to do?

Answer:Hinge on Satellite M30 is loose

Hi there,

the problem is that you cannot repair it only by tighten some screws. If the hinge on this model is loose then you will need new hinges and to exchange them, the whole machine must be disassembled since the hinges are partially under the palm rest and on the lcd installed.

So, if you want to fix that you should search for an technician which can fix it. Better solution would be to contact an authorized service partner:

Hi- I've had my ideapad since late february. Its been a great laptop and I've generally been very happy with it.Unfortunately, about a month ago the hinge that connects the screen to the base of the laptop has become so loose that the LCD portion of the laptop will no longer stay upright without being propped up against something solid.  I purchased it from Newegg and they don?t except returns after the first month for laptops. Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks

Answer:Loose Ideapad hinge

Hi, Bets thing to do at this point is to send the laptop for service, never thought that an IdeaPad would have such an issue. Call tech support and have it repaired or replaced.

One of the hinges on my two week old Yoga 11s is looser than the other. As I open the lid and push it back, the left hinge rotates somewhat, but the right one stays firm. Finally, once I reach 180 degrees, they level out. I can also equalise them by closing the screen back up somewhat after opening it. It's not a huge difference between the hinges, but I'm aware of it, and it's kind of annoying given i've only just bought it.  Is this single-hinge looseness normal? Is it worth getting serviced, or are both hinges going to be as loose as barn doors in a few months time?

My T400 does not have any play in the hinge whatsoever.  I had a hinge in mine T60 replaced under warranty due to the play, and now it is wonderful once again.

I have had my HP Omen for about 8 or 9 months and slowly the hinge is becoming loose on the screen. So basically if i grab the screen to tilt downward it will move about and inch forward before the grips the hinge and start moving. LIkewise if I hold the laptop by its base and tilt it back and forth the screen will loosely flop back and forth about an inch without affecting the position of the actual hinge. Please advice me on how I can rectify this. I plan to have the computer for at least 2 or 3 more years. Best regards, Scott Georgson

How loose? Depending on the region of the country, this may or may not be covered under warranty. The hinge has to be swapped, it can't be tightened.

Hi: I received x1 carbon touch in late December. First I ran into touch screen issue. This issue was fixed by running a calibration program I got from my internal Lenovo support. Yesterday when I opened the laptop I heard a cracking noise and the hinge separated from the cover and screen is also loose. The screen is not cracked and laptop still works.Whenever I open the laptop the screen separates from the bezel. I push them together and they snap but always separate when I open or close the laptop.I showed it to my technician at work and he told me that warranty will not cover this issue as it is physical damage. There was not physical damage to my X1 carbon touch. Now we have to pay for new lcd bezel, hinge kit and rear LCD cover. These may be expensive and I have no way of knowing if this will happen again., After using Lenovo PC's for the past 10 years this is unexpected. I saw one more person who can the exact same problem. Let me know if you have any suggestion for me.

Answer:x1 carbon loose hinge bezel

Had the same problem on my daughter's X1 Carbon Touch (34xx). Disassembled per the hardware manual to see what was wrong. Turns out that the two right-hand-side hinge screws had detached from the cover because the brass fitting into which they were screwed had become separated from the cover (they were just wedged into a plastic hole), effectively freeing the cover. Not impressed with the design. Am investigating brass-to-plastic glues...

If I move the screen a bit, it comes on. Any movement of the screen causes it to either flicker or go blank. I connected the laptop to a external monitor and it works okay. Can someone tell me what might be inside the laptop that would cause this? Is there a switch or contact that tells the system that the laptop is open? I hesitate to try opening the back or to send it out for repair before understanding what I', facing. This machine also has a tendency to run hot. Is that the norm? The screw on the back under the right side hinge has become loose and fallen out twice.I put it back in the first time nice and tight and tightened all the other screws. It just fell out again!  This is with gentle handling.  And it took less than a month to wiggle loose.Would using a little Locktite blue on the screw when I put it back void my warrantee?

Answer:Y50-70 loose bottom screw under hinge.

No, the use of Locktite blue won't void the warranty and is probably a very good idea since this is a reoccurring problem. Be sure to just use a tiny dab on the threads.

I've had my Y550 for about 3 months now and everythings been fine with the construction of the computer. However, I bought this computer because the screen hinge on my last computer slowly broke down to the point where it was difficult to keep the screen in one position because it flapped around so much. Now, only 3 months in, the screen hinge is loosening quickly,, and moves back and forth over an inch, or several degrees. I thought this was a good computer. Now I'm worried the same thing that took 3 years to happen to my old laptop is going to happen within 6 months on this one. The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

The right hinge of my HP pavillion m6 1035dx entertainment notebook pc. What is the most economic way of fixing this simple issue. I figure I would go straight to HP as, business to customer, to ensure a better customer experience that is more frictionless with less obstacles. I bought this laptop as manufactured refurbed and assume maybe the hinge was loose in the first place because I have kept good care. I plan on upgrading the internal hardware as well but I need to make sure that the hinges and rest of external casing is dexterous and durable. Moreover, I can't find a reputable third party that I trust. So, I am going directly to HP. Please reply to me and give what options I can use. I figured I can just send my Laptop to HP and HP fixes it and sends it back or if there is a reputable third party HP can recommend. However, I strongly believe that HP is a better option in both HP and my interests. Third party is just a middle man that costs more not only for me but as well as for HP. Thus, no need for a middleman and I strongly believe in a simple customer experience and customer relations. otherwise, HP will be tarnished in customer service. I can't even talk to a representative about my issue. At least, from my experience on the Website and is just forums. Is it normal for some of the hinges to be slightly loose on the yoga 900? I wasn't sure since not all of them are loose. Also, I have one of the caps on the edge loose as well which I can take off and put back on (without it falling off easily). Not sure if it's worth sending it in... still on warranty. There is no cracking sounds etc. though and it is working properly.

Answer:Yoga 900 Hinge Loose Cylinders?

It might be best to send it in to get the entire hinge replaced under warranty. See this thread about the same issue on a Yoga 3 Pro where Amy of Lenovo suggested this course of action:

Hi, I've noticed over the past couple months that my laptop's hinge on the left side was coming apart, which was concerning. I just recently realized that this was not my fault, but instead that 2 screws on the bottom Near the hinges are actually missing. I don't know if they have always been in there or if they fell out, but according to these forums, replacement screws won't work because the part they screw into is broken or something? My warranty has been up for awhile and I don't really know what to do about this to get it fixed? Any help would be great!

I have recently noticed that the hinge on my computer is coming loose, and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this or if it will cause further damage? I would like to get it fixed but I can't find contact information except for computerized assistance, and I'd rather talk to an actual person. I'm not on warranty anymore, but I have seen that other people have gotten this issue resolved without paying, even with expired warranty. Would anyone be able to help me with this problem? Thanks

Hi,  I have had my spextre for just over a year now. About 6 months or so ago I started to notice the screen wobble a little more, I played it off as nothing. Not so long ago I notice the left hinge is loose, and that is the source of the wobble on the screen. It seems as though the left hinge can be pushed in towards the laptop a couple of mm signlalling to me it is not properly secured. Is there a fix for this? TIA!

Hi,

the hinge on my 2410-603 notebook has worked loose to the point where it will not stay up unless i lean it against something. I was wondering if i am able to tightenen this somehow or whether it would need replacing. Anyone have a guide of how to get at the hinge??, or anyone know how much a replacement one is likely to cost??.

I have searched on the net however havn't been able to find anything as yet.

Thank you in advance,
Jamie

Answer:Loose/Broken hinge on my Satellite 2410-603

Hi,

unfortunately it?s not possible to tighten it, so you will have to purchase new hinges.
I suggest you following:

Look at ebay for such machine you have (maybe a defective would be good) and let a technician exchange it or ask an authorized service partner how many an exchange of the hinges will cost.
If you need a link to find a ASP then you can try it here:

Hello to all,

I have a 7 yr old Sony Vaio GR370 laptop with a loose hinge. When
the laptop is open at any viewable angle, there is about 1-1.5in.
of "play" on the LCD portion of the lid. It stays up fine - it's more of an
annoyance then anything else.

Is there any way to tighten/repair/replace the hinges ?

thanks in advance !

Answer:Solved: Sony Vaio - Loose hinge

I'm just guessing, but I think you're missing a retaining screw that holds the hinge post in place.
Look at the back of the machine to see if there is a place for a screw that is missing.

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Answer:T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Well i was once told that Lenovo don't cover hinge problem by the Lenovo service personnel, but then on my second attempt and through some coercion they said yes. Mark_Lenovo did mention that the loose hinge is within the normal repair parameter, while many people in the USA have the hinge problem repaired under warranty. This is the message that Mark_Lenovo sent me regarding the issue of hinge and warranty. ------------------------ The hinges should be covered under warranty.  Sometimes the staking of the pin inside the hinge fails - we have several designs - some are "D" shaped which can become rounded, and some are epoxied I believe.   It is also possible that the screws have loosened which hold the hinge to the LCD frame or to the chasis - the locktite did not hold.  If you are in warranty, I would expect us to cover this unless there were visible signs of abuse (like dent or abrasion from being dropped). ----------------------------

Good evening, i own a X200t on which the hinge appears to be kind of loose. When opening the screen and letting it in a position before 90 degrees, it falls back some centimeters (3-4 cm). Also, when standing on a table in laptop-mode, the display is wobbling with every little movement of the desk. It's annoying (esp. when using it in train) compared to my former X200s, which was rock-solid. Is this typical or should i call Lenovo Service ? Kind regards, pepun.

Answer:X200t - Display wobbling - Hinge loose?

I don't think that's normal.  I have a new X200t and the display does not wabble like that, although it's *nowhere* near as sturdy as a T-series that I have access to.

I purchased a Spectre x360 almost two years ago (Sept. 2015) and the laptop worked fine. After about two months, I noticed the hinges did not line up as cleanly but the laptop still opened, closed and folded back without issue. I recently opened my laptop and noticed that the right hinge is shaky and that the screen wobbles a lot because of it. This seems to be a purely physical issue as I "pop" the hinge back into place and it secures. While the screen is still shaky, I am less worried about it this way. I have never dropped my laptop, haven't travelled with it and it sits flat on my desk 99% of the time. How should I proceed? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello, The hinge on my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 has been loose (or broken?) for quite some time. It caused the bottom of my laptop to split open on the side which has the power button (left side).  The laptop was not dropped or damaged in other ways, before I knew it I noticed the issue. First I noticed the screen feeling loose, but only recently I paid closer attention and saw the hinge was loose. Other than the hinge issue, the computer is in good condition and works great. I would hate to lose it because of the hinge. From reading the forum, it seems to be a very common issue with this particular type of laptop. Therefore I am wondering if anything has or can be done to help us who have encountered this issue. Thank you!

To any staff, Long story short, the hinge on my Thinkpad T61p were getting loose (it was moving back and forth) and upon a quick serach, apparently it was a known issue on these laptops. As my warranty was nearing its end, I quickly called Lenovo to have this repaired. Because I was promised that this repair is going to be finished within 5-7 business days, I decided to go ahead and send it away depite that my major requires it 24/7. I've received a box next day and I sent it away on Jan 9th, 2008. I called in today to see what's happening but this employee, who rather got really irritated that I called in, couldnt find my info for 30 mins. After finally finding my info, he mentioned that the hinge is backordered. I politely asked him when I can get the laptop back but he said it could take days.. weeks or possibly up to months.  The sole reason why I sent this laptop for a repair was because they said the turnaround repair would be fast and I believed his word. It's quite dissapointing to hear these kind of delays in repair process when I need this laptop ASAP. There are actually 2 ongoing cases regarding my laptop but none of them are being solved at the moment. The 6 cell battery, which just died a few days ago, was replaced by a 9 cell from Lenovo. I called about this issue as well and hopefully they can get this straightened out. How long does it take for a "back ordered" parts to arrive at the depot? I have had my laptop for just over a year and I have never transported it anywhere, as I just leave it on my desk. However, when I opened up my laptop today, the left hinge came off loose. Now the left corner of the screen is very loose from the screen border. Would HP be able to fix it, even though the warranty for this laptop has just finished 2 months ago? I am concerned, because I haven't done anything to it and it was very sudden. I'm pretty sure that it's a manufacture fault and this is an issue. I bought my Hp envy about 18 months ago and a few months ago the hinge started getting loose and I noticed that a few screws were missing. This was a few weeks after It had come back for repair for a bios issue and recently I noticed that the actual bottom plastic was starting to crack and eventually the plastic was sticking out and I struggled to push it back in like I usually did. Ive seen that this issue is extremely common with these laptops and most have said in the HP forums that its a design issue. So I don't want to continue using the laptop in case something major gets damaged. Ive seen in other forums that some users have had there laptops replaced but all im wanting is a quick easy fix. Thanks

So I got a brand new13 inch HP Spectre X360 on August 24. I really wanted this laptop over the Mac because I felt it was lighter than a Pro, more powerful than an Air, had a great display, plus was more vessatile than the two due to its rotation capability. To my disappointment, I quickly found out the trackpad seemed loose (you could feel a slight rattle by lightly pressing down the middle). 15 days later, I exchanged it at Best Buy only to find, low and behold, my new one having the same exact issue with the trackpad. Not only that, but I feel that even the screen hinge is ever so slightly loose. Not that it moves in laptop, tent, or presentation mode -- but when I type quick I feel the screen shake just a tiny bit. Moreover, when in tablet mode, the two halves of the computer (the screen and back of the keyboard underneath it) don't stick together. They pry apart about an inch. I called HP and they said it could be my particular local Best Buy bought a bad bunch or something? I did see other threads on here with people complaining about the trackpad, and some have suggested that there are some 'malfunctioned' unitss and that if one were to keep exchanging, they would eventually get a good one. I also have slight cackling of speakers without headphones when playing music. So should I exchange for a second time? Would Best Buy be upset -- do they have a limit on this sort of thing? And if it helps, I have the three year warranty/Geek Squad tech support package... Read more

Hi, It seems that others have had this problem with a loose hinge too. My screen started fading to white (with faint vertical lines). At first I could jiggle the display and the display would correct but over time it's gotten worse. My computer runs fine otherwise, but I need to use an external monitor or I can't see anything. I'm suspecting a loose connection but can't find a good video showing how to fix this. I recently purchased the latest Yoga 900 from the Canadian Microsoft store (online).  It is the only option for a 2-in-1 in Canada that you can order with 16GB RAM + 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD.  The laptop arrived quickly and everything is working as expected.  On the centre of the wristwatch hinge there is a type of mesh that goes from front to back that covers a portion of it. The mesh is not centered properly on my unit and it slightly protrudes out of the back of the hinge.  I realise that this is a minor issue, but I'm within Microsoft's 30 day return/exchange period.  The hinge does not appear to be loose, but i've only had the laptop for 3 days now. I took some pictures to help illustrate the issue and I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed the samething.??????

As the title describes - a screw on my laptop has come loose and gone missing and now the bezel (the thin plastic cover surrounding the keyboard in case my use of bezel is wrong) has separated from the lower half of the casing on the upper right corner of my E145, above the kensington lock and mains input. The LCD hinge is now loose and lifts up when moved, the kensington lock housing also moves with it. This image shows the problem - that's the right side hinge, the separation can be seen at the top of the case and to the right of the kensington lock port, on the hinge itself. I haven't tampered with the screw in any way but did notice the bezel wasn't flush with the battery on this side (it is on the other hinge), so the screw has been loose for some time and finally worked its way free. I posted this thread before I realised the screw had gone but I might as well keep it up (if only to remind anyone else with this problem to check the screws ) but I have two questions: 1. In the event we're unable to find the screw, will it be possible to procure a replacement from Lenovo? When looking at the laptop from the bottom, the screw is located in the top left corner just above the rubber foot and battery release switch 1. 2. If the screw has come loose because the threading is damaged then this will need to be repaired. My laptop's warranty has not yet expired, will the warranty cover these repairs?

hi
i've had a used (eb*y) simpletech 320gb external hard drive since jan and been using it with a replacement mini b w/ dual usb male cord (also eb*y) ...i think it's worked okay (maybe there have been some subtle abnormal noises, i don't know - the other day, before anything "happened", i think i heard a sound like it kept spinning up, winding down, spinning up ...very faint and, brief)
...well, now something is definitely wrong because - i *think* the usb cable had stayed in fairly okay but now, either i've damaged the drive by keeping it plugged in for too long periods, or by accidentally pulling the cord out because... now the drive keeps disconnecting itself and will no longer be detected by my computer if the cord is disturbed at all--now so bad, i can't have it on my laptop on my lap or just ~breathing~ will cause it to disconnect. (and, thinking the cord was just loose, i tried to push it in and, THAT caused it to disconnect another time...)
i've tried to look for info about this problem before asking of you but in my situation it's the, keeping it plugged in for too long periods or accidentally disconnecting the cord, or pushing it in that time that makes me worried i've physically damaged the drive...
do you think i should try just duct taping the cord in place (but not TOO firmly) and/or a replacement cord .........or do you think i've caused something to come loose and may have really damaged the drive?

Hi, not a huge problem but just thought I'd get it checked out. Casing seems like its loose where I rest my arm, on the black strip near the mouse and power buttons are, as when I rest my arm on it when typing it clicks and squeaks on the right hand side and is starting to annoy me. (Don't ask).

Another thing, the hard drive seems loose as that is also clicking. I've tried to tighten up all the available screws that I can see but nothing has changed or helped..is anyone else having a similar problem? Don't want to send it off if that can be helped as it will take a while to come back and I need to use the laptop every day for work.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L300-1BV loose casing and seems like loose hard drive

Hi.

It seems that you have weird problems with your laptop. I think you must have done some updates to the laptop and now you have those problems. For the black strip panel, if you see a gap between the panel of the mouse and the micro input, you must have left a black thing (in square shape) somewhere before you put everything together. That black thing is used to cover the wireless switch. Also, if that couldn't fix the problem, it is normal if the gap happens after a bad upgrade.

For yoru HDD driver, there are many reasons for it. * I suggest you to give the laptop back to the service to check everything * I hope you haven't broken the warranty policy or they will charge you a little bit.

Regards.

It is bad enough that Dell makes a product with a defect affecting many of their unuts (bad hinge design/manufacture), but then makes a statement that part is specifically not covered under any of their warranties.
C/mon Dell.  You created the problem, man-up to it.

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

Answer:Broken right hinge. Left hinge about to go on my ENVY m6

Hi @NeiCe , I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details. If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

I see some tablets have two buttons on the side, and that some third-party pens are more ergonomic. I haven't yet used my x2330t's pen (it will arrive in a week or so) and it might even be enough for me, but what other options are there?

Answer:Better pen for x230t?

You can use the pen from a fujitsu tablet laptop, which has two side buttons.

Hi, on hindsight I should have asked this question at this forum first. But I was tired from doing all the researching and bit on an old x230 convertible laptop off ebay that supposedly has core i7 3520M, 4gb of ram, and 160gb ssd. It has been upgraded to windows 10. It has not arrived yet. At around $200, it seemed to me like a steal for the specs. I do think that these specs were user-upgraded and not factory-made so I cannot speak for the quality.I read rave reviews about this device, however, most were from several years ago. I never owed a device with this specs or a touchscreen laptop for that matter so I do not really know what to expect.I guess I will start out to see if anyone still second this as a solid convertible laptop in today's standard. Does windows 10 run well on it? Seem like a lot of people run into problems when upgrading to windows 10? Is there anything special about the touchscreen or is it just obsolete technology nowadays? I mean the most resource intensive thing I will do on this laptop is just playing some online flash games so I think it is way less than what it is capable of. I was just looking for a laptop that is upgradable and can stay relevant for a long time so did I make the right call? Any feedbacks are appreciated!

I received my new x230T yesterday and have bene totally wowed!  I have owned the x201t and an x220t; the x230t is far superior in build quality, speed, keyboard, screen clarity (which is surprising given that they should be the same); and digitizer performance. I was a huge critic of the digitizer performance of the x220t; I can say without reservation that the digitizer performance of the x230t is outstanding and far better than the x220t. The x230t is the best laptop I've ever owned.

The SSD on my new X230T failed (SMART short self-test failure). I contacted Lenovo support on January 2 1013 and was told that the part is unavailable. As the computer is under NBD warranty, which I purchased with the computer, I was told that the issue was escalated and a technical support person would contact me shortly. After waiting until yesterday (January 8 2013) without any response, I called Lenovo support and was told that the part was still unavailable due to high demand, that the issue was escalated and that somebody should contact me shortly. Until now, nothing has happened and I desperately need my computer for work. I am thinking about buying a SSD and replacing the failed one by myself. I wonder if anyone has done the same. Will this void the manufacturer warranty? The configuration of the computer is as follows:i7-3520M, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Windows 7. Any suggestions to have my computer back to work will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Replace SSD on X230T

I don't see why buying your own would void the warranty. If/when you hear from Lenovo repair, just put the failed drive back in the drive bay and let them do their thing. Then you can swap them again when repairs are complete and use their drive as a spare. I just put my own SSD in my 230T and I have the NBD warranty for three years.

Question: T430s or X230t?

I'm a diehard Thinkpad guy. But, I'm kinda stuck on whether to buy a T430s or an X230t. I'll be using Win8 pro with both. I know the 230t doesn't support 10point touch, but that's not really a problem for me. I'd like the stylus option for taking notes, etc. But, I'm also a fan of the thin, simple form factor of the 430s.  I'd really like some different points here.  I can't afford the X1 Carbon... and there is something about the 430u I don't like... it looks cheap.  Thoughts? JIM

Answer:T430s or X230t?

I'd go with the X230t. When I purchased my T420 I wasn't sure if I should get it, a T420s, or the X220t. My major concerns were screen size, screen resolution, number of external screens supported, cost of warranty, and lack of optical drive.

Now that I have a 12.5" Twist I can say that a 12.5" IPS screen at 1366x768 doesn't seem to slow down my productivity when I'm on the road, and I can always connect to an external monitor when at home. So I'm no longer concerned about screen size or resolution.

I think the X230t should be able to run in a triple display configuration (external + external + internal) so I see the machines as equivalent in that regard. It might need the Display port splitter to do this, and if this is a concern you should should check with someone who owns one.

I never use my optical drive on my T420. It just takes up space and I might replace it with an ultrabay caddy and a second SSD.

The cost of warranty for the two models is now similar. Back when I was looking, it was a few hundred dollars more for the accidental damage protection on the tablet model, probably because they were afraid people would break the screen. This difference ultimately made the decision for me because I wasn't going to be able to afford the t, the ADP warrant, and an SSD.

As far as not having touch, you'll have the stylus if you need it. The only thing that I've found multi-touch useful for is pinch to zoom on PDF docume... Read more

I really like X230T, I still concern purchase or not. Before I want to purchase Surface Pro 2 128GB, but I thought X230T will be better. The problem for me is that   I afraid the new  x230T will release with 4th gen processor or even better will release nest years.Should I purchsed now?  Any news about new new X230T or X240T.?

Answer:Buy X230T now or wait?

Welcome to the forum!

The X230T is the last of the conventional convertible ThinkPad tablets, so if you like it get it now.

There will be no X240T, only the standard version.

ThinkPad Yoga is the direction in which the tablet range is going.

Question: Replacing x230t...

I am looking for the next model to replace the x230t that I have been happy with... The Helix looks OK, but the screen is a full inche smaller, and can't upgrade past 16GB. Does Lenovo have a device that has a 12" screen, digitizer support, and is a convertible?  The x230t was perfect, so I am a bit sad that it doesn't have a good, new replacement. Thanks....

Answer:Replacing x230t...

There is the ThinkPad Yoga, which officially has replaced the X230 Tablet. See: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/yoga-series/yoga/#techspecs

Question: x230t wifi LED

Reading the hardware mantenience manual of this laptop about the wifi LED it says: Green: The wireless LAN, WAN, Bluetooth, or WiMAX feature is on.
Blinking green: Data is being transmitted.  Right now is not working this way, it nevers blinks for what I saw in all videos, just off when wifi is OFF and on when wifi is ON. In old IBM/Lenovos this was working, and acording to the manual there is something wrong. So how to solve it?

Hi everyone,  I just got an X230T and I love it dearly, but I'm having a few minor issues that I would love to attempt to get cleared up. I am coming from the Macbook world, and have been babied a bit, though I had run a bare install of Windows 7 on the machine in the last year of its life.  1. WiFi connectivety after resuming after sleep: When I get back home, or show up on campus, I'll often fail to connect to the WiFi network. I can manually disable and reenable the WiFi adapter and I'll connect no problem. Not sure what is causing this, but it seems to be a result of resuming from sleep.  2. Failing to sleep when closed: This is new, but occasionally the machine will fail to sleep when I  close it, generating far to much heat in its sleve when it is in my backpack. Not sure if this is common, or is there is any reasonable fix, but my power settings are set to sleep when closed. 3. Dolby Digital settings crash: I've never once been able to open and use the Dolby Digital setting, they crash immediately after opening. (ie. "Dolby Profile Editor has stopped working") I've tried looking for software updates, but to no avail.  4. Conflicting settings between Windows Control Panel vs. Thinkvantage Tool Suite (and general bloatware annoyances): I'm having trouble discerning what settings I should be manipulating / which takes presedence. I like some of the Lenovo Tools, and love some of the default Windows Tools (ie. Windows WiFi ... Read more

Question: X230T HOT running

Hi
I have been running Prime95 for a long period of time on all my ThinkPads and Desktop computer. Others are running quite good at a reasonable temperature about 10-15C below TjMax even with all threads in all cores are 100% loaded. However, I recently find that my X230t with i7 3520M hit a temperature of ~101C, about 4C below TjMax while running Prime95.
Have anyone tried running Prime95 on X230t and what is the highest temperature you reached?
Is this a common problem of cooling in X series or just in x230t?
Thanks.
Below is the picture describing the situation.

Hello people of the Lenovo forums. A friend of mine just gave me his Lenovo x230t, it looks like he tried formating it and handing it over to me but he didn't install all the drivers or what not. The laptop itself is from France (french keyboard) and I think when he installed the windows it was in french as well, I changed the setting and made it so everything is in english but when I installed the Lenovo System Update app it installed it in french and I cannot change it, same goes for Realtek. I went through this websites find and recommed me stuff to install, and it did install all the intel drivers and a bios update also I myself installed the driver that activates the tablet keys (screen rotate, task manager). My question is should I just clean install all over again? I got the windows key here so should I just reinstall the whole PC? its new so I got nothing important on it. If so, how should I go about it? I don't have the windows disk or any other driver disk. Another issue is that I cannot use my fingers on the touch screen, it only works with the stylus. I've seen people online scrolling through web pages and PDF using their fingers in touch, also using some other cool functions like opening all the curret apps in a scroll by pressing 4 fingers against the screen. Do I need to install a certain driver to do it? if so where? Sorry for writing so much and thank you for taking the time and reading it.I apologize if I broke an... Answer:Some help with an x230t windows 10

Hello and welcome,

I'd be inclined to do a clean install, followed by System Update.  Since Win 10 has already been activated on that machine you likely won't need the key.

You can download Win 10 direct from Microsoft.  I haven't looked at the MS tool lately and don't know if the download varies by version (Home, Pro, ...) but if it does pick the one that matches your key.
