Hi everyone, I have a problem with the wi fi connection in my laptop, the computer doesent read the wirelees divise. when I click Fn F5 all I can see is the bluetooth adapter, no wifi adapter to turn on or off, this have been happening reacently, yesterday I downloaded the drivers and nothing, then I restarted the computer several times and it began to work again but after I put the laptop in stand by the problem came back again, now im using a datacard to connect to the internet. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi,it seems I have the similar issue with my x220 and wifi card Intel Centrino 1000 - sometimes after laptop resumes from sleep wifi card disapears not only from control window after Fn+F5 pressing, but from Device Manager.I think it's a power management driver related issue but can't explain why. Or some tool from Hotkey Features Integration package doesn't work properly. I've noticed several times at this moment monitor driver (in Device Manager too) didn't work also.But the biggest and the most trouble is laptop can't be rebooted or turned off correctly - every time when wifi adapter disapears after 5-7 minutes of tasks closing I get a BSOD with Power Management error message. Of course, wifi adapter works correctly after laptop turning on.And another one trouble - after I've deleted Access Connections wireless devices control window (after Fn+F5) can't be opened with error message. What I did?1. delete and reinstall Hotkey and PM driver manually. No effect.2. delete Hotkey and PM driver, reinstall them using System Update. No effect.These issues are very unpleasant but I don't want to revert laptop to the factory stage.x220, win7pro 64 bit, bios 1.19, drivers and OS updates are up to date.

hey daveboston,welcome to the forums.it's hard to say what's going on here but if you could, could you uninstall the current network drivers (wireless and wired) from your system and then let win7 install its generic drivers. Also remove all other network adapters that you have listed.once generic drivers has been installed, test your unit with your router via wireless as well as wired connection. see if there is any difference then head over to http://support.lenovo.com , download and install the wired and wireless network driver for your unit and test again.

Hello All, I have had my X220 for just over a year and have never had any problems in the past.  For the last few days I have been having quite a difficult time connecting to the internet and I really need some help.  Thanks in advance for your assistance. Here is what I know: My X220 shows that it is connected but it can't load any webpages.  I have replicated the problem on 2 different wireless networks and a wired ethernet connection. I have verified that 3 other devices (phones and netbook) can connect and work fine on all of the aforementioned networks. I have reset my modem several times. I did a system restore to early August and when I do this my internet connection returns, however, the pages load terribly slow.  I believe I still have a pretty fast connection because when I load google maps it takes a while to load the page but once it does, I can zoom in and out of the maps extremely fast.   Unfortunately, once I turn the machine off or it goes to sleep, the connection no longer works once I turn it back on. I have ran all of the Microsoft and Lenovo troubleshooting/diagnostics programs with no success. I have turned off all firewalls and security software. I used the Lenovo diagnostic program to test all of the hardware (it all passed) and have verified that my network drivers are up to date. Lastly, all this started happening a day or two after I received a large Windows update.  I'm ... It seems you've got net trojan or virus. Look at CPU activities before and during network connection. Also check out loaded processes and services and their activities (CPU and RAM utilization).Which MS update do you mention? Did you remember?

Hey everyone, I am a college student with an x220 laptop. For a while, what's been happening is that whenever I am doing anything that 'uses' up a lot of data (youtube videos, loading a lot of images, etc), I lose internect connectivity, and it just says 'limited connectivity'. My solution has been to just switch over to the unprotected network, until that one fails and I switch back. The problem happens quite frequently now, almost every other youtube video I watch I lose internet, and when I'm surfing the internet, it just randomly disconnects. I have the latest wireless drivers, and I have scanned my computer for viruses. I have also gone into the adapter properties and turned off the power saving auto-turn-off. Some things to note:  I dont think this ever happens on my home network.When i'm hooked up to ethernet, I never have this problem.I had this problem with Win7, updated to 8, still have problemsWireless usb adapters also experience this problem I've looked at all the other posts regarding this and tried everything, but nothing is working. Hey all, I have the Lenovo Thinkpad X220 that's done me good for the last 3ish years. However, recently, I've mad some connectivity problems with the wifi. I will start the computer and it will connect but with 1 bar. It'll reach at most 1-3 bars, for any network, and in any place (my school campus and also at home). Usually I have no problems with my connectivity but now it's become an issue. I was wondering what could be the problem? It must be the computer, but I don't know what the next step to take is. I've run a scan on my computer and found nothing wrong with it using Spybot S&D. I'm not completely tech-savvy so I'm not sure what the next step is. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you!

check if the antenna cable has not come loose on the wireless card (located under the palmrest). sudden low signal strength usually means something wrong in the antenna.

Does anyone have information on when a security update will be available for the issue?
On 10/18/17 MS Article Stated: "Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release of the security patch. This is expected to be available in another 2-3 weeks or earlier."

For Issue:
JET provider is no longer able to connect after the October update. This update (released October 10<sup>th</sup>, 2017) includes a security update release that inadvertently affects the JET provider. The update was kb4041678 and included in
the patch kb4041681.  These patches affected the Operating System, which adversely has an issue with the following technologies: Microsoft Windows Search Component, Windows kernel-mode drivers, Microsoft Graphics Component, Internet Explorer, Windows

I am having major problems with spyware and malware which has infected my computer. I am unable to run either of the recommended programs to obtain logs. A bubble continually pops up from the system try asking to install anti-virus software.

When I try to run the programs, a warning box pops up saying "Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate antivirus software."

When I hit ok, the Advanced Virus Remover starts and tries to install something.

As was the case before, I still can not run DDS or GMER.

The virus has also replaced my desktop background with a big rectangle warning sign saying my computer has been infected. Also, some common web sites are blocked for me and when I try to access them (eg. weather.com) the window says "restricted site". I have not really used to computer in the last few days.

Any recommendations for what my first step would be to get the ball rolling would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E530c laptop which I need to reset to factory.

On startup. pressing F11 brings up the Lenovo recovery tool to do this, however, because the laptop is setup on a network, it says this cannot be used. It instructs me to login and use the tools within the OS.

I cannot login because the trust relationship between the laptop and server is corrupt (which I also can't fix).

Any ideas on how I can access the recovery tool, perhaps by creating a new login to use (I don't know the local admin password).

My TP Yoga has gotten increasingly fussy to charge. You have to wiggle to cord for 10 or 15 minutes, and if you get lucky you can finally get it to charge for a minute. Of course, this means you can't move the laptop while using it. I've tried multiple cords, and that doesn't really help. Is this a known problem?    It's a shame, really. I had an X200 and loved it, but it seems the build quality of the TP's has not held up to time. If this issue isn't solved the laptop is worthless to me. Any thoughts?

I recently bought a X230 tablet. Actually I did not realise that it can rotate screen in tablet mode automatically, at least in Windows 7 and Windows 8. I performed a clean install of Windows 10 and obviously it did not support auto rotate even with all the drivers that Lenovo System Updater helped me installed. One thread in this forum solved auto rotate in Windows 8. It is largely the same to that thread. Except that for Windows 10 you need to let the X230 recognise the built in accelerometer which is actually mainly intended for protecting hard drive from being damaged after free fall. Incidentally accelerometer found its way in Sony's hard drive walkman HD5 before, which also has hard drive accidentally falling protection and screen auto rotating function. All you need is 2 pieces of software: 1. Thinkpad Tablet Shortcut menu                                                                 2. Thinkpad Active Protection System.The 2nd file is the one that will allow the accelerometer come to life. Installing this 2 software and the needed reboot. go to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\ThinkPad\Tablet Shortcut\' and double click on 'LENTBCTL' to run it. Not at all sure this is a Lenovo X220 issue (win 7- 64bit), but I'm having the following problem with my 1tb WD My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 external drive: It works fine when plugged into the USB 3.0 port.  However, if I safely eject it, and use it in a USB 2.0 port, it will not be recognized if I go back to the USB 3.0 port.  I can usely get it working again in USB 3.0 mode if I reboot. (I have two of these external drives, and the behavior is identical for both of them). I've tried lots of different things, but still can't solve this issue.  Are there any newer USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 7, or for the X220, that I should be installing?  The only one I see for USB 3.0 on the Lenovo site is for the Nec controller. Again - not saying this is a Lenovo issue, but I don't have another computer with USB 3.0, so I was hoping people might be able to tell me about their experience with USB 3.0 and the X220.  Thank you.

Current I've several x220 laptops in my company, when I wish to reinstall windows from USB flash drive, I found that all laptops are failed to detect the drive in BIOS. I check the USB boot option was enabled and the drive and boot from other desktop or laptops I've also tried to update the BIOS to latest version but still in vain. But it can boot from some other USB flash drives (not all..?) Is there any I can solve it?

Current I've several x220 laptops in my company and a new Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 64G (SDCZ80-064G)usb flash drive. When I wish to reinstall windows (or boot) from this USB flash drive, I found that all laptops are failed to detect the drive in BIOS. I check the USB boot option was enabled and it didn't include inside the list pressing F12. I've tested the flash drive can boot from other desktop or laptops but only failed in this combination. I've also tried to update the BIOS to latest version but still in vain.  Is there any method that I can solve it? Besides, why I can't download the drivers according to the laptop P/N? I recently transferred a large amount of files from a USB3.0 capable portable HDD and a superspeed USB3.0 cable. When plugged into the USB3.0 slot on my notebook, the transfer rate was shown as only 48MB/s instead of the theoretical 5GB/s. I tried plugging into the 2.0 slot on my notebook, and the transfer rate was shown as 36MB/s. Any idea what could be the problem here?

Answer:X220 USB 3.0 speed issue

The theoretical speed is if both ends are able to sustain that speed. At best, a spinning hard drive will provide up to 60MB/s-120MB/s under sequential reads, and up to 0.5MB/s-1.1MB/s under random reads. Hence, the USB 3.0 bandwidth will not be fully saturated.
 
Use HD Tune's trial and run a benchmark on the drive while attached to the USB 3.0 port.

My hotkey for wireless seems to leave out blue tooth altogether and only gives me an option for 802.11 wireless radio. I have the small blue tooth LED light, but not once have seen it work, or seen bluetooth options on my computer. Any input would be helpful!

Could you please check whether Bluetooth is enabled in BIOS?
 
Tap F1 while starting the system to get into BIOS. Under security tab, select I/O port access. Enable Bluetooth and check if Bluetooth is showing up in device manager. Also, check if you are able to find Bluetooth radios in device manager.

Hello, I have been having an issue with my X220 freezing. This tends to happen relatively randomly, however I have noticed it more frequently under these specific circumstances:Plugging in the computerUnplugging the computerWhen there is a shift in the speed of the fanThis is not to say that the computer always freezes under these conditions, but this is when I tend to notice it most. To describe the issue further, when I mean that the computer freezes, the screen locks up and I cannot move the mouse with either thre trackpoint or pad. I cannot use the keyboard either, with neither esc, cntrl-alt-del or any other combination of buttons functioning to make the computer come back to normal. The only way I can "resolve" the issue is by doing a forced restart my holding down the power button. After it restarts, it is fine, at least until another freeze. Another issue that I've had that may be related is that for a while when I closed the lid of the computer to put it to sleep, the computer would shut down. I've checked all of my settings regarding power management and what the computer should do when the lid is closed, and it was always set to put the computer to sleep when the lid was closed, so that is not the issue. As a temporary solution I've now changed that setting to have the computer go into hibernation when the lid is closed, which does not cause shut downs, but it is obviously less desireable than just having the computer go to sleep. I called Lenov... hey mctagga9,just curious to know, have you done a full system update of your x220 ?if you have not, kindly do so. If you have updated your unit, could you access msconfig and use diagnostic startup.this mode will make windows load only windows driver. by doing so, you can check if the problem stems from a non-windows driver or something else.

Hello, I have a 802.11n issue that drives me crazy..My X220 with 6205n Wifi adapter cannot connect to the router in N mode. The router is a huawei HG655b, using WPA2-PSK/AES. All my other computers at home can connect in N mode, but the X200.It only connects in b and g modes, as soon as I swith the X220 adapter's N mode on from device manager, it disconnects. I have updated the Wifi driver to the last version from Lenovo site, I have changed Power options on both battery and Ac to maximum performance for Wifi...what else could it be? An incompatibility with the router?

Opps, maybe not so unique since I just noticed an ENTIRE forum for browsers...perhaps moving this is appropriate...if so, please do. I will be reading up in there.


Its interesting because I can't find any mention of it anywhere on this site. Specifically browser connectivity is lost after a little while (guessing 7 minutes, though it may be a number of browser pages displayed trigger i went 3 hrs today) after I start browsing. If I don't start a browser, the death clock doesn't begin until I start browsing. Now, at the same time, all shares, the other machines on the network, work fine. Also if I am playing an online game, I will not have any issues. Just IE and firefox can't display pages and other programs (like updates of AVG) are soon to follow.

***Important to note this is new, the network was fine for over a week before this started a couple days ago.

I notice, when it works, net info states Homegroup - ready to connect (I am using a workgroup to connect to other machines) but last night, during a browser outage it said it was connected. I notice now it calls my workgroup a homegroup (I think is used to say workgroup)

(This problem may have started around when I tried to synchronise a folder to "always available offline", but there are other things that were done in that period of time unfortuately, all have since been undone.

Hi, everybody! I have I strange problem. My ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software was working fine a few days ago until I had to uninstall the software. I had to uninstall it because my x200 had a motherboard problem and went to service. Meanwhile I used the HDD with another notebook. That's why I had to remove the fingerprint software. I got my x220 back and I tried to install the fingerprint (along with all other software and drivers) software, but I'm getting this message and the installation stops: You have currently installed another version of fingerprint software. Please, uninstall your existing software before running this installation. Actually, there's no sign left from the fingerprint software. I removed it via the Programs and Features menu, I entered BIOS, removed all the fingerprint data from the new motherboard (although I believe that was not quite necessary since it's a brand-new motherboard). All other drivers and software installed fine, without any problem. Has someone else encountered a similar problem? I'd appreciate it very much if you help me somehow.Thanks!

Hi I recently flashed my BIOS (going from 1.26 -> 1.31) prior to installing Windows 7 x64 on a new SSD on my X220. The BIOS update seemed to work OK (I used the lenovo Windows utility to do it), but now I can't save any changes to any BIOS settings. I also cannot reset to defaults - I can't even select some options in the BIOS (e.g. anything to do with UEFI) - the cursor just skips over the lines on screen - and those I can select don't respond to any changes I try to make. I don't get any errors either in BIOS or in Windows, and my X220 boots OK, but obviously there's something wrong there. After updating the BIOS, I installed the SSD (a Samsung 830) and installed Windows on it - all this worked OK although I was planning to switch to UEFI for the new install and couldn't do so because the BIOS is now uneditable. Everything in Windows seems to work OK. I've tried re-running the BIOS utility but it reports that the BIOS is up to date and it won't re-apply the current update.  I've checked to see if anyone else has reported this issue here, and found a few reports with similar issues but different situations (e.g. people running Linux rather than Windows, or Wifi not working after the update) - but not this issue exactly. I'm wondering if this will fix itself when a new BIOS version is released and applied - if that's likely, I'm happy to wait until then (so long as nothing breaks in the meantime). Please try updating the Bios using bios.bak file which is created during bios update .
You need to locate the bios file folder on c drive  , then find bios.bak   rename  it with FLASHABLNew.ROM
And click on winplash.exe ,  use Browse  option  to " Specify new Bios file "  and select FLASHABLNew.ROM
Then click on flash bios  , it will flash a message that the bios you are trying to update is older than current version , Press Yes to continue
Press Yes , If every thing goes well , your system will restart and you will have your old bios were you can modify or change any option
Now delete the folder which has the latest bios
Download the latest bios and try to flash to check if you are able to modify or change any option under Bios

Hi,i just think that fan pulsing issue maybe needs new thread here because some major problems  pointed here http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-fan-constantly-on-revving-up-and-down/td-... are with new bios (1.16) solved. So, as many user may experience - thinkpad x220i (i3), but also other x220 series have this fan pulsing problem. If you put your ear at the fan area you could notice every 3-4 sec some sort of pulsing/beating. This pulsing is gone between 1954-1972 RPMs by my x220, but at all other RPMs i can hear it, or even feall it with my hand on keyboard.I uploaded the sound of this pulsing fan here:http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/110463-X220-Serie?p=1092014&viewfull=1#post1092014 You can hear it with headphones an 100% Volume. Hopefully we get this problem solved...

I tried to download the adapter driver for my ethernet cable to work: http://support.lenovo.com/en_SE/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS019204 but for some reason, it does not install, or if it says it does install, the connection/ adapter still doesn't work (has the exclamation point in device manager).  I tried uninstalling the network connection adapter, then downloading and installing the driver, and then rebooting and it still does not work.  What can I do?  I have the X220 and have experienced many such problems, but this seems to be the most frustrating. Thanks very much.

hey sarika116,try uninstalling the ethernet drivers via Device Manager.let windows install its generic drivers. restart your unit.go back to Device Manager and check if the ( ! ) is still there. test your ethernet and see if it works.later, reinstall the driver from the link above.

My manager uses the offline files feature quite a lot and now she has moved to an X220 with Win 7 Pro 64-bit, however some days when she logs in she notices the sync icon isn't in the tray. When you go into offline files it says its enable but not active a restart will activate it. However rebooting leads to the same thing, instead I go into the services page and find that although set to auto the offline file service is not running, I click start and it kicks back into life. Now I have viewed the event viewer from when the computer starts and the Offline file service first starts then gchanges state to auto (delayed) then changes back to auto before finally saying that the service has stopped. All of these are info events as opposed to error or warning events. I know some services don't run even when set to auto as they are not needed however without offfline files service running no syncing is done and you also lose the "Always available offline" option when you right click a folder/file. If anyone has any ideas as to whyt the service is stopping that would be great. Mark

Answer:X220 and Offline Files issue.

It is caused by a bug in "RapidBoot" which is software that Lenovo preloads.  You can either (a) uninstall RapidBoot or (b) upgrade to the latest version which fixes this bug.  I recommend (a) - you won't miss RapidBoot by uninstalling it.  Sorry for your inconvenience.

Hi, since two days the Window system SOMETIMES no long detects the wifi card but only the network card (ethernet) and bluetooth module.How can I be sure the problem is ihnerent the mini pci wlan card and not due a (win) system issue ?  For an eventual hardware replacement... Thanks.Regards, Stefano.

My X220 doesn't seem to detect headphones properly.  Sound comes out of them instead of the internal speakers, but the audio mixer still shows the device connected as "speakers."  My old laptop could detect when headphones are plugged in and kept separate volume levels for headphones vs internal speakers, should the X220 be able to do this? I'm running Windows 7 on an i5-2520M with 8GB RAM.

Actually this made me curious, so I checked out my X220, and indeed it worked like you described. However, I found a way to change that to provide the effect you're looking for. In Control Panel, click the Smart Audio icon. This will bring up the Smart Audio panel. Click Audio Director, one of the bottom icons. This brings up two choices, Classic & Multi-Stream. Changing to Multi-Stream recognizes the headphones when plugged in, and indeed maintains a different volume level. Hope that works for you!

Hi, For few weeks now, I have been experiencing a very frustrating battery issue with my X220. Usually I put my laptop in hibernation while there is still a good battery capacity (70-80%) at night (or before going to work). On the next day, when restarting the laptop, both Power manager and the windows gauge are indicating close to the same percentage as just before it was stopped the night before. Then after a random time, ranging from few minutes to a hour or so, windows will notify me that the battery is at a critical level of charge (6%) while just before both Power manager and windows indicator were showing something like 60% remaining. At that point windows shows 6% while power manager still shows the previous level of charge (let say 60%). After few minutes, Power manager indicator goes all to 6% and then the PC hibernates.  I think that my issue appeared after I updated Power manager, I reinstalled it including its driver with no luck...I am now performing a battery reset to see if it helps. I read several other posts regarding similar issues on the lenovo forums, it was suggested that some battery cells might been faulty and that a battery swap might solve the problem. However, as far as I read, it seems that people who performed a battery swap were still experiencing the issue. I wanted to know if there were any know fix for this battery issue or at least what steps I should be taking to investigate/debug this issue? ... To get the obvious out of the way, when your battery life suddenly drops off, are you watching YouTube or surfing Flash-heavy web sites? Yeah, a sudden drop-off in indicated battery life sounds like a driver issue, so I dunno...maybe you could try rolling back the battery driver or Power Manager. (There's a way to roll back the driver via Windows Device Manager, right? Just make sure you don't uninstall the driver through Windows; there should be a button to click for "roll back driver.") I suggest making regular full-system-image backups of your X220 while you're working on the drivers. With my old x100e, I got myself into trouble after uninstalling AMD Catalyst Controller, and it just refused to reinstall. Do you think like...a battery calibration would work? Go into Power Manager, Advanced, then Global Settings. Go to the battery low/critical section and click the box that says "do nothing" for when low and critical are reached. Power Manager will force the computer to run, even though the battery will broadcast a 0% level remaining. (And just to be safe, run the calibration with everything closed, use Power Manager to set the CPU to "low," and set a video looping in WMP or something like that, at brightness 11 of 15.)  It's not too healthy for the battery (to deep discharge), but if you get 3-6 hours in that test, it'll be safe to say the problem's in the software, either something hogging CPU power or a driver issue. I've done it a bunch of times, but... My laptop screen has developed a vertical grey band about 10cm wide which starts very light but as I leave the laptop switched on gets increasingly dark and when dark I can see effectively a shadow of a previous image on the screen, making it very difficult to read. I'm concerned that it may not simply be a screen replacement issue as there seems some comment that it may be a connector cable issue.  Any ideas?

Hello,I've been using my X220 for almost 2 years now and now all of a sudden, whenever I use my x220, my wireless internet would stop working (at random moments) what happens is:first the network i am connected to becomes limited and any program that uses the internet gives me an error  message saying there is no internetthen all available connections disappear from that window that tells me the networks i can connect tothen when i try to turn my wireless radio off and on (via FN  + F5 )  i get a popup saying no network adapters are supported by the lenovo softwareafterwards i try to reset my wireless radio via physical switch (on the right side of my x220) but nothing happens. the only way to "fix" this issue is to reboot. is there anything i can do to fully fix this issue?

Hii, I bought a thinkpad x220 last october with the IPS display. Since last month, I noticed a bright pixel(may be two) on a white background.Furthermore, the borders were  bright on a black background. ... I saw other posts with similar problems so I thought of sending it to the depo After I sent it to the depo for a possible repair/replacement...   someone from lenovo calls me that they cannot replace the screeen and that I have two choices either to pay 750$( !!!!) for the screen or take the old screen as it is ... Now it makes me really doubt the whole 1 year warranty system ..  I tried calling the number but these people confuse me even further ..redirecting me from one person to another or just keeping me on hold for really long .. .Today the status information centre told me  they are saying that the motherboard is being replaced but nothing is mentioned about the IPS I was wondering if someone has had similar issues with the IPS and what did they do to resolve it .. .

I've played youtube video w/ chromium on xubuntu 16.04, pressed pause while being in fullscreen mod and closed the lid as usually. When I opened it, everything ran very slowly, all animations were stuttering, exhaust air was pretty hot, fan spinned at full speed, but there was less than 8% CPU load and 1 GB of RAM used.What I tried already: rebooting, taking out and putting back the battery, loading previous kernel version from grub menu. Then I swapped ssd with another laptop in house, which had windows 7 and xubuntu dualboot. Both systems ran slowly on x220, and xubuntu from x220 ran good on other laptop, so my conclusion was: there's a hardware problem with x220. Then I turned off Intel SpeedStep and CPU power management features in bios and turned on again, nothing changed. I put back ssd with xubuntu in x220 and ran dmesg console utility, this is what output looks like: https://pastebin.com/YREFCZQZ but I can't make any decision from this data. What should I do next to deal with this problem?

Hi guys, I came across the following Wireless issue for my thinkpad x220.
 
 
Don't know why when I press "Fn+F5", the menu didn't show the wireless icon. 
And I cannot trun on the wireless radio to connect any wireless connection.
 
Could any of you help me to fix this issue?

I wanted more capacity so foolishly replaced my trouble free 256gb Samsung 830 SSD with the 480GB Corsair Neutron GTX SSD on my Thinkpad X220 (should have stuck with Samsung) and whilst the Neutron GTX is hyper-fast, its giving me a problem. When i try to shut down Windows 7 (Pro 64 bit OEM), the notebook freezes at the "windows shutting down" screen (happens around 1 in 5 times) and i'm forced to remove the battery or hold down the power button to switch off the notebook. When i switch on the notebook again i get the message:"2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)"Pressing escape a few times does finally take me into Windows and everything works ok until i get the same issue again a few shutdowns later. I've formatted the SSD and re-installed Windows 7 again (in AHCI mode) but the problem still exists. This issue did NOT exist with the Samsung 830 SSD. The BIOS is up to date, ALL hardware drivers/firmware are up to date. I'm thinking perhaps the Corsair SSD is faulty so will test it in my desktop to see if i can replicate the issue. But before i do that, can anyone suggest other possible solutions?

Hi,I tried to find an answer to what happened to my X220 last week end. Suddenly it stopped being able to wake from sleep. Power button "breathing" green ring present, but it was not waking up by opening the lid or by Fn key press. When powered off by long press of power button, it booted successfully. This behavior was reproducible always. I thought maybe BIOS reset could help and I did it. After this it did not POST and it beeped 1 3 3 1 pattern - which is, according to documentation, system board or RAM. Having known the RAM was fine, I did pull them out and tried both modules one by one with no luck. So I took them out and went for original, small module, the machine was bought with. And it POSTed successfully with it. But after removing this module and returning the old, big modules, it POSTed too. And waking problem disappeared. Should I be worried about system board? My machine was made between Sep and Dec 2011, could it be early manifestation of dead EEPROM? Is there any way to test it?

Ok, I'm posting this as a separate thread, since it was so strange.Upon learning about how to get full power to the headphone jack, by clicking on the headphones in the SmartAudio control panel, I enabled it. I plugged in my 90watt ultraslim and the x220 started making a terrible microphonic whine, like it was screaming, almost. The sound was coming out of the back of the laptop. Also, the battery refused to charge. As soon as I disabled the headphone boost, the laptop accepted the 90watt ultraslim and started charging as normal.I'm holding on to the 90watt slim for now, since I only use it for charging, but now after this last find, I think I have to get more compatible adapter... Yes, JameZ, I will make a video displaying both isues for engineering.

I have not been able to 'plug in' my AC adaptor properly for almost 6 months. It always slides out a little after plugging in. At first, it was just a tiny problem and I managed to wiggle it manually. But now I cannot even charge unless I wiggle it for a good 10-15 minutes to find a good 'spot' then physically hold the cord in place. I thought it was the AC, but having tried a new AC adaptor that changed nothing, I started to think it's the DC. Called Lenovo today,  but was told that DC is not covered by warranty (although my machine is still under warranty). I don't know why it's not under warranty, as quite a number of threads have reported this issue here. Anyway, Lenovo asked me to just find a local service provider if I want to have a check up and change the DC (not keen on sending in the machine), but would changing the DC affect my warranty? (If it requires opening up the machine..etc). p.s. Lenovo Switzerland is very unhelpful in this regard (called them 5 times and was passed around to different people), so I had to post the question here. Thanks in advance.

I've purchased the Lenovo X220 laptop with the Premium HD IPS display and I do have a problem with it (see below).
Laptop was purchased something like month ago and I've spotted this after I've started to work with it more heavily but after 14 days, so I was not able to return it to the seller (http://www.lenovoonline.cz).
 
When you put backlight to maximum you see that the display is not evenly lighted and forming bright spots on the bottom of it. It's most noticable on the black background.
 
I've sent notebook for repair (http://www.pcnet.cz) with this description (translated to english):"With maximum brightness set and the black display/background (eg. BOOT screen) on the bottom edge of the display there are visible white spots/maps. Small but visible and not even with different sizes. It's most visible on black background and while limiting external light (darker room, working in the night). Spots highlights even more when you try to pull the display towards you into steeper angle."
 
The laptop has been in the repair for 2 weeks and the result was this description:
"This kind of display is very sensitive to any pressure, and it will result in the brightening the place. It is specific for this model line and it's not the reason to warranty repair. We recommend to lower the brightness level in the darker room. Check of the display frame has been done and no problem has been found."

Answer:X220 IPS display backlight issue (with photos)

Yes, at maximum brightness level the backlight bleeding is very visible but I use it at 5 or 6 level where it has excellent contrast ratio considering how crappy current notebook displays are in general. The uneven backlight is caused by fancy LED backlight which is still not able to deliver similar quality regarding uniformity as good old CCFL backlight (that's why professional LCD monitors still rely on W-CCFL backlight). But I agree that the top-left corner is way too much bad and might indicate that the panel is seated badly in the frame. On the other hand my old IPS panel in R51 also have backlight bleed at maximum brightness level. Major problem is that Lenovo is still not able to fix the stupid bug with brightness level always set to max in BIOS screen that the backlight bleeding is very visible and irritating everytime you boot your machine. IMHO, the X220 IPS panel is still much better than any ugly contrastless TN panel Lenovo puts into ThinkPads (except 15" FHD). I bet that you would hate the X220i TN panel more than this one  There are also two different revisions of the IPS panel, the second one fixes problems with image retention. As for comparison with Z60m, X220 display lid is much more fragile so the panel is not protected well against pressures and flexes. In any case panel flex should affect the backlight bleeding temporarily only. If it persists it is subject to repair (replace, reseat etc.). Unfortunately I don't have any good low-ligh... Read more

I've been having this awful issue with my X220 recently.  Whenever the microphone is active, whether in a skype call, recording audio with some random flash app, or just viewing the microphone settings it causes the audio output, whether from the spakers or headphones, to cut in and out in a really odd fashion.  It won't completely cut the audio off, but rather go in and out of playing the audio normally to this weird status of playing audio like it's somewhat muffled.  If I go into the audio devices and disable the microphone the problem goes away completely, but it only really occurs when something is using the microphone. All of the settings in skype and windows relating to letting applications control audio and reducing volume for calls have been disabled as well. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio drivers, and am up to date on bios and everything else.Windows 7 x64

Hello ThinkPad-Community, I have a sporadic issue with the brightness control, thats mean sometimes I start my laptop from standby and the control with "Fn+Pos1 or FN+END" doesn't work.There is no reaction and no on screen display progress bar. Also in the default Windows 7 energy settings is no control of the display brightness possible. If the issue exist, only a complete reboot of the ThinkPad solve the issue. I've also found some discussions about this in the internet but no solution helps realy. NOTE: My Laptop has a complete clean install of Windows 7 and all drivers was installed by Lenovo System Updater.Does anybody have the same issue? Thanks for your help

This is an on & off issue that creeps up on various Thinkpads. It was very notorious on my X120e, but it doesn't happen on my X220 at all, and I sleep/resume it all the time...It's a bug they can't seem to correct.

I purchased this unit June 2012, following update recommendations through Lenovo Solution Center since that date.  BIOS 1.33.  Recently installed Crucial 256gb mSATA SSD.  TrackPoint and TrackPad worked fine until yesterday.  I also use a Lenovo Bluetooth mouse, purchased three months ago, and all three forms of GUI cursor navigation worked fine until yesterday.  I used a wired USB mouse to navigate while (1) uninstalling and reinstalling the Bluetooth mouse drivers. (2) I found a thread on this site that spoke of disabling and re-enabling the TrackPoint and the TrackPad in the BIOS.  When both are enabled, neither works.  When the TrackPad is disabled, the TrackPoint works.  When the TrackPoint is enabled and the TrackPad remains enabled, nothing works.  I have uninstalled the UltraNav drivers and installed the current Synaptics driver (from their site), 16.2.21.0 dated 10/26/2012.  I then alternatively disabled and enabled TrackPoint and TrackPad in BIOS as above, and the result is the same. I've deleted the driver subdirectory that contains the UltraNav driver.  I did that before installing the Synaptics driver.  When I use Lenovo Solutions to search for updates, it asks me to download Synaptics UltraNav driver 16.2.5.0, which I then download and installed.  fn-f8, however, says that both TrackPoint and TrackPad must be enabled in the BIOS for UltraNav to work.  When I do that and press fn-f8, I am ... I have updated to latest version 15.6.1 from 15.03.1000.163 (Windows 7 64 bit)http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015011 I have disabled virtual wifi hosted network by 'netsh wlan set hostednetwork disallow' command that always worked for previous driver versions. This version installed two adapters 'Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter' and 'Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2'  that appear in Device Manager and disabling the hosted network no longer works. The netsh disallow command reports ok but 'netsh wlan show hostednetwork' always reports Allowed state. I have tried to remove the driver at all, restart and install it again but the issue persists. The only fix is to revert back to previous one 15.03.1000.163 I think this is a security issue that has to be resolved because the hosted network can not be safely disabled.

I recently purchased a Lenovo X220 and I am attempting to setup a dual monitor with it and a Samsung Syncmaster BX2331 monitor. When I change the setting to extended desktop on the secondary monitor the laptop monitor starts having issues. The useable space becomes bigger than the actual screen so I can scroll up and down while on the desktop. It will also scroll left and right and the desktop icons will move over onto the secondary monitor. The laptop has a resolution of 1366x768 and the monitor is 1920x1080. I am trying to explain the issue the best I can but it's a little hard to explain.

I know what you mean, it happened in XP when you set the screen resolution larger than what the screen was capable of. What cable are you using the connection to your secondary monitor? On the secondary monitor, press the auto calibrate button, or it's equivalent, and then unplug the VGA/HDMI cable and plug it back in see if that fixes your problem. it's also worth trying going into the settings and checking the button that says "hides modes not supported by this monitor" If you don't know where that is, right click on the desktop and click "screen resolution" then click advanced and at the bottom of that pop up you should see that check box. Those are the first things to check.

Hello, I recently purchased a x220 and I am very happy with it. I turned off  "sleep when closed" for some reason and then accidently left it in my bag for like 15-20mins. It was hot but didn't really smell like burnt plastic or anything. However I feel as if the screen is harder to get at the right brightness. It feels as if I have to get a very precise angle to view the screen at the proper brightness/clarity. However it is hard for me to say if there is any difference to before as this happened only a week after using it. It could be acting just fine and I am just paranoid so my question is has there been any issues that have come up like this before? Has overheating in a bag or something ever caused the LCD screen to function just slightly improperly? Thank you,

Well, first of all, I hope you're talking about the basic, TN LCD display, not the upgraded "Premium HD" IPS LCD screen. Anyway, personally I feel like it's so easy to be paranoid about screen quality and possible minor screen damage or defects, but Lenovo has owned up to the "ghosting" issue, so things can really happen sometimes. In your case, I wouldn't worry. Provided you are indeed talking about the basic TN screen and not the IPS, it sounds like your screen's viewing angles are performing normally. For some extra confidence, the Notebookcheck review of the X220 says their test unit got so hot under the sun that the plastic began to warp and bow, and even then, they didn't mention any screen degredation. And for that matter, isn't the X220 Mil-spec tested for heat? http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-X220-IPS-Subnotebook.55639.0.html

Hi,
 
I want to report issue with Lenovo X220 and Lotus Notes 8.5.x.
Problem is that Lotus Notes has missing some of its buttons.
Example if you try to forward message send button is not visible untill you refresh screen by pressing F5
I think problem is with Intel display drivers.
 
If you uninstall driver and use "standarg vga" all is working ok.
I have tested all Intel drivers that you can download on Lenovos site but everyone have same issue.
 
Also tested this with multiple computers and all have this same issue.
 
Any ideas?

I have X220 which I enjoyed very much for the last one year. Warranty is just expired and unfortunately the system starts act crazy. I decided to reformat and go back to factory setting stage by using Rescue and Recovery. I could get to the Full Restore and could click full factory restore. The system ask me to restart but instead reformat the HD, the previous OS kicks in and reboot as previous setting. Please help!!!

I regularly use Lenovo update to check for any new drivers/updates. After an update to bios 1.25, my computer attempted to reboot, but it never really shut down. After 15 minutes of just black screen, I pulled the battery to force it off. When I attempted to reboot, no POST, just black screen. The Thinklight and green lights will flash, but nothing happens. So, I called Lenovo, and went through some basic troubleshooting which did not help. This all happened on Sunday, January 29th.  On Monday, January 30th, I called Lenovo again, and they said it would take about 2 weeks to :- send me the box- I send my laptop in- They fix it- They ship it back to me. I couldn't afford to wait 2 weeks, so Lenovo suggested me to find a Business partner locally. Lenovo site led me to Microserve in Burnaby, BC, Canada. I dropped it off on Monday, and they called me back on Tuesday to let me know that the mainboard needs to be replaced and ETA for the part is February 2nd, Thursday. Work will take 1-2 business days. So I waited. Hello, With the X220 Tablet, if I have a secondary display attached and the desktop set to 'extend the desktop', then touches are displayed as being invoked on the secondary display, even though I am clicking on the primary (tablet) display. Does anybody else get this effect?

Hi all  I have realy strange problem with my lenovo x220. So...When I connect displayport cable into my lenovo, system restarts. It occurs only when second device (projector) is turn on. My x220 tablet is haveing issues with the graphics card shutting off. I purchased my x220t about 3 months ago and I have begun to have a reacurring problem. I will be running CAD 2011, nothing 3D, and the screen will spontanneously go black. 5 seconds later, it will restart and an issue report will pop up in the bottom right and corner of the screen. This issue is a real problem since I bought this laptop for engineering and with an i5 processor, CAD sould be running fine. I did not expect the graphics card to be a limiting factor since I am only using 2D visualls right now. I have tried to find similar if others have had a similar issue but I can not find anything. What should I do? ps, I have a screen shot of the info but I am unable to post it.

Hello, While cleaning the keyboard and lifting up the space bar the centre white bumper was broken. See photo (sorry for the poor quality):  Now the space bar will only work if pressed directly in the middle and with extra 'force'. What should I do? I could try supergluing the disconnected pieces...if this does not work is my only other option to order some kind of replacement piece?Thanks.K

There's a 48-page discussion on the backlight bleeding of the x220 on the Lenovo forums (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Faint-Ghosting-on-X220-IPS-screen/td-p/435201). There are also many smaller threads regarding problems with the x220 IPS screen and to a lesser extent the x230 screen. I recently purchased an x230 and experienced bleeding. Due to my onsite warranty IBM support came and replaced the screen- but the new one still had bleeding. Another engineer came out, brought a new back-panel (because the flex of the panel seemed to be causing it) and said "this isn't broken- I have seen lots of x220s and x230s with this problem- its a design default". Could I challenge Lenovo to provide me with an x230 IPS screen which does not bleed? I cannot believe Lenovo released/designed a laptop with such a glaring (no pun intended) fault. Has anyone here got an x230 (or x220) IPS screen where there is absolutely no backlight bleeding on a dark background?

Good morning - This is mostly directed at Lenovo Support Staff, but also to those with a X220 Tablet or similar.After hours of troubleshooting, I finally found the cause of my Windows 7 Pro Shutdown issue. The Tablet would hang at Shutdown, then BSOD.  I systematically removed drivers until I found the cause.The current installed version of the Thinkpad Tablet Button Driver, Version 1.04.0.0 as installed by System Update was the culprit.  As soon as I uninstalled that driver, no more issues. I have yet to try the driver that is available from Windows Update - if I have a similar issue, I will go ahead and update this post. Hopefully this will provide some enlightenment to those few who've had to track down a similar issue, and let's hope Lenovo will respond. *Edit*I realize this is in the wrong forum.  Can the Moderator please move it to the X-Series Tablet Forum?  Thanks

We discovered this problem in early August with our new X220 tablets.  We have a 1-to-1 tablet pc program.  About 75% of our freshmen class has experienced this issue.  The tablets are running on battery power with the extended battery slice.  The units will spontaneously just power off.  Not a clean shutdown but just a power off.  The batteries are in various states when this happens, most of the time both batteries are almost fully charged.  I've witnessed this dozens of times with the students in my classes.  We found out that this also is affecting another high school in our consortium.  We bulk purchase our tablets with several other high schools.  The other high school that is experiencing this issue has the same model and the same manufacturer date 6-11-2012.  We estimate 200-300 units are affected between the two schools.  Lenovo product engineers are working on finding the source of the problem, but we currently have many frustrated students and parents.  Just curious if anyone else has seen this issue with X220 tablets and slices that were manufactured around the first part of June?

 I share your pain with same Intel WiFi Link 1000 bgn.  After many, many hours yesterday I am now solidly running Wireless N at 144 Mbps on a LinkSys E4200, 99% reception from 30 feet away.   Previous to yesterday I could not get 'N' to work at all. First, if you have a newer dual frequency Router, this Intel adapter only supports 2.4ghz.. 1. I am using Access Connections 5.85, Windows 7 2. Router: 2.4 Ghz Network Mode: Mixed 3. On my LinkSys router Channel: Auto NEVER worked for either  'G' or 'N'.  I picked channel 4 by chance and things got better.  No further experiments.  3. Channel Width: Auto (20mhz or 40mhz). 4. Earlier forums indicate WPA2-P and AES must be selected.  That's what I am running. 5. Thank you for checking the Event Viewer, didn't think of it.I have the exact same event listed; I googled it ("kernel processor power event 37", first result), turns out it's got to do with which power plan you're on; one that favourites too low of a performance bottlenecks the CPU, resulting in horribly low performance. The problem seems to completely go away when on a high performance power plan. I am fairly sure of which specific power settings to change, wouldn't mind confirmation though.Go to Power Manager in Advanced mode, to your favourite power saving plan and toggle System settings > System performance & CPU Deeper Sleep.

Running Vista and IE 7 and connecting over att 3g wireless card. After updating virus protection (Kapersky) ie cannot connect to the internet. I have uninstalled the virus protection, and can ping common web sites from a command prompt and outlook works as well. I've recently (in the past few weeks) been having trouble with Internet Explorer, version 7.0.5730.11. When I first open the program, the page is blank, and the status bar (bottom of the IE window) briefly flashes "Detecting proxy settings" and then sits at "Connecting to site 74.125.93.104" for several minutes before displaying the typical "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" screen.

In dealing with the problem, I've found that whenever I get the "Connecting to site" message in the status bar, I immediately close IE, then reopen it. Sometimes the first time I do this results in Google (homepage) loading, but most of the time I must repeat this proces several times (up to about 10) before IE loads Google.

When already working properly, I've noticed that IE has no problems opening links in new windows or tabs. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this problem?

IE version 7.0.5730.11

Hi,
I am currently trouble shooting a network problem for a medium size company, aprox 250 users. The issue is as follows:
A connectivity problem occurs on random clients which leaves them with an ip address received from DHCP server but the client only has connectivity with its own vlan. (DHCP server on different VLAN) The switch has ip helper set up so the communication to get an ip address is being done via the switch and on to the DHCP server.(The primary function of IP helper) The client can't ping anything outside its own VLAN.
Our only work around is to assign a static DHCP ip address on the DHCP server using the MAC address of the client. Issue an ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew on the affected client to get the assigned static DHCP address and full connectivity is restored.
There is a mix of Cisco and 3com switches, mostly Cisco with a Cisco 3750 multi layer switch at the heart of the network.
I have analysed the configuration of the devices and everything looks good.
I know its hard to diagnose from this brief description but any similar problems experienced and solutions discovered are appreciated.

Hope someone out there has come across this... Bellsouth (DSL) using a Westel Modem directly connected to the Computer (ethernet), no switch, hubs, etc.... All connected to a UPS which I turn off nightly. When you first turn it all on, cannot connect to Internet, E-mail, etc... The DSL Modem shows steady power light, steady sync light and ethernet light flickers as it is working, but nada... disabled Firewall (Zone alarm) but nothing. Cannot ping or get to the outside. Most of the time, after a reboot it will then work as it should. No viruses on the computer, all updates are done (Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, IE6 with all updates, etc). It is becoming frustrating to say the least, and takes nearly as long as my dial up connection did just to get online... I contacted Bellsouth who tries to claim it is a hardware issue which I do not agree with... I changed the DSL modem to it is always on, independent of the computer and that didnot help... Next I am going to try a different Ethernet card... All dsl modem updates are done as well... Has anyone else had this problem? Please advise.. thanks

I have a Lenovo T60 laptop that runs XP. I have been having intermittent connection issues to my wireless network. This is the 4 time it has done this in 3 months--each time it lasts a couple of days. My connection window says that i have an excellent connect with good speeds, but i have limited or no connectivty to the network. Also, as a troubleshooting measure, the settings on the wireless adapter were reset to default settings.

i have a dell laptop inspiron B130. amazingly enough, made it though setting up a linksys wireless G broadband router! however, seems that the dsl cable modem is not "reading" the router. have not been able to connect to the internet via wireless...have reset the cable modem, the router...nothing. do keep getting an annoying popup balloon telling me that my wireless signal is excellent...any advice? thanks in advance for any help.

Ideal setup is to have the "uplink" port (labeled as WAN or Internet" from your wireless router going to one of the LAN (or "Ethernet") ports on the DSL modem.

I am experiencing a problem for sometime now. I get disconnected from the net every now and then. Even though my connection is good, basing it on the modem lights. What happens is that after sometime of being connected, my connection suddenly drops. If I restart my modem, and do ipconfig, it will show me 0.0.0.0 for Ip address. Hi Everyone.
I have a Netgear JFS516 switch which is directly connected to the D-link DES-3026 switch.The problem is up-link lED on netgear switch keeps blinking for 1 minute and then goes off, resulting no network connectivity on the part of Netgear JFS516 switch.

These 2 switches connected with straight cable and I crimped the cable on both side but the problem still persists.

My companies building was struck by lightning last week. All of our computers have been knocked offline. Some employees that use WYSE boxes smelled smoke after the lightning strike.
i performed an ipconfig/release /renew
that returned some results such as "unable to contact your dhcp server. Im not sure if some of my netwirking devices are fried as well, or theres just a configuration problem.we unfortunately have no internet connection but are connecting to an "unidentified network"

I have a ISA server which i use to connect all my systems to the internet. But there are times when i want direct access to the Internet without any firewall in between ( i know its not safe). For that i connect my DSL modem to an 8 port switch and from there to two of my systems and it works perfectly fine, i can browse...download and play games etc. But when i connect a third system...i cant connect to the internet although i can access systems connected to the switch.
I checked up DNS, IP and everything....still no good.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Can anyone please help, I have a problem on my son's computer. we have lost access to the internet I just keep getting a message stating "limited or no connectivity" I have tried resetting the network wizard in Windows XP but to no avail, I have tried the repair connection facility but that says " unable to set IP address" We connect through a D link wireless router. my computer down stairs connects fine.
I don't know if this is connected to the problem but when I boot up the computer I get a message stating that Rundll C:\PROGRAM~1\NEWDOT~\NEWDOT~1.DLL is missing or cannot be loaded has that caused the problem?

NEWDOT is spyware that hijacks your web browser and host file. You need to remove it. First you need to remove this key from the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\new.net startup
After you have deleted this key you need to reboot your system. Then run msconfig and go to startup and stop these process
(may or may not exist):

I play C&C Renegade (on WOL) religiously. About 2-3 weeks ago, my computer got virused and i had to reset a bunch of things, and i think something messed up my 'net connection settings or something, because since then Renegade has been disconnecting randomly (always at the good times, too).

My company uses a VPN to allow outside access to our inhouse systems.
Our main software here runs on a Unix server, so an emulation program has to be used on Windows systems. We use Tiny Term for this.

We have one employee who lives out of state and does all of her work through this VPN connection. She has recently moved and went from a Bellsouth DSL connection to a Sprint DSL connection and she's now having problems connecting with the emulator. There is no problem connecting to the VPN, but the emulator will not connect to the inhouse server.
This sounds like a routing problem on her end. Most likely NAT settings on her modem/router that are not allowing the connection to complete, but that seems strange since the VPN has no trouble connecting. It seems that the emulator connection would use the same ports as the VPN correct?

I may not be explaining this the best way, but bear with me. What could cause the emulator connection to time out like this? Am I right in thinking its a router configuration issue?

have you ever consider using a Citrix solution for running the emulator? This is, in my mind, the answer to your problems...
anyway, if she is getting a connection in the VPN, then running the program, if it's timing out, it's a problem on your end. The connection through the VPN makes her machine active on your network, so it's getting there. The program could have an issue with several things, but I think it's problably something to do with the amount of time it's taking for the application to get a response. See if you can configure the interface for running a longer timeout session and see what that does.

I have a server running IIS6 whereby some users can connect while others cannot.  Those users who cannot connect can ping the URL, and can perform a tracert so that is not the issue.  Eg., the URL is my.company.com, they can connect to my.company.com/test, but when try something like my.company.com/test/us/xxx/yyy it just timeout [like I said some users have no issues].Can someone recommend a way I can troubleshoot this strange issue, and also, how do I tell someone is hitting the URL whether it fails or not?  They do not receive any http error code, just receive a "The connection has timed out" on both IE and Firefox.

I have just bought a new router and am trying to connect it. I did the basic set up with an install disc to the problem is that when I connect to the Wireless network it only gives me limited access to the internet for instance I am able to use Skype and other applications that rely on internet connection, but when it comes to web browsers (both Mozilla & Safari) it shows the url section loading but only ever makes it mid way (the page always stays blank) . I also have access to the router settings using 192.168.2.1 I cloned my MAC address on the router settings as that was prior advice.

If anyone could help it would be amazing..

While I was trying to rid my daughters computer of virus/trojan (with restore point turned off, unfortunately) her system hung and on reboot spybot ran strangely. Now, her wireless card sees our Belkin networked wireless connection (and all of our neighbors unsecured one's, too) but it will not connect to any of them...........just the little icon saying limited or no connectivity.
any ideas would be helpful.

Answer:Little or no Connectivity issue

Have you tried running the repair option? Double click the network symbol in the task bar showing little or no connectivity and select repair in the window that comes up. Basically this will release and renew your IP address if the wireless router is handing them out.

Question: Connectivity Issue

Hello all,

I am new here but hoping still that someone might have the answer to an ongoing issue within our network.

I am dealing with a large network (large in the physical size not necessarily how many PCs connected). There are 4 different buildings that connect with a fiber optical connection. Each building has it's own internet source. I deal with two of these buildings. The connection runs underground. When I link our two buildings, the networked PCs communicate but the internet connection is lost.

I am not sure if the other buildings have these connection issues but I've noticed that at one end it looks like an adapter is connecting the fiber optical possible to a cat5 looking jack. Is it possible that that's the issue?

Have you heard of this before. I happens to be a POS system that we need working between the two buildings. So apart from one or two office computers on the network that needs internet we need it for processing credit cards as well.

Any help will do. Sorry if I wasn't all that specific or clear... I'm still new at this stuff.

Dear HP Experts, I am facing the WiFi connectivity issue. Whenever I connect to a WiFi, the system displays all the nearby WiFi and when I porceed selecting the relevant wi-fi after entering the password, it takes too much of time to coonect, but remains unsuccessful. Later, the error message displays that " This is taking longer than the usual time: Connection Unsuccessfull".  Best RegardsSurendhar

Question: connectivity issue

My laptop which i have recently installed a fresh xp copy on, is having internet connectivity issues. there is only 1 driver that works for the wireless lan and 1 driver for the wire lan that but that wont work for some reason but im not concerned as long as the wifi works on it. the issue is that every 2-5 mins the wireless disconnects, and reconnects taking anywhere from 1 min - several mins to aquire ip address. i could understand if it was clear across my home away from the wireless router, but its stationed right next to the router, so there should be no interferrance problems. i use halfdone's unknown devices driver informer and that tells me that the proper drivers are all installed on my laptop and that i dont need anything else. device manager confirms. i dont understand why my wired internet wont work if it has the proper drivers, and i dont understand why the wifi cuts out like it does. would you assume that its the router ( though its brand new and doesnt cut on my other wifi systems ) or the computer?

Hey all,

I'm finally posting here after having read around on the site before and gotten good info.

I set up a wireless home network between two computers (a laptop and a tablet) a few months ago. The laptop is the "base" computer and the table has a wireless receiver; the router is a DLink 524.

I never had any connectivity issues (internet) until last week on the laptop when my free version of Zonealarm started acting screwy and not displaying any info when I would open the program up. I updated the version, and since then cannot use the internet while Zonealarm is running. I'm confused, though, because the tablet has Zonealarm and has no problems accessing the internet at all. DLink tech support tells me that the problem is in the configuration of Zonealarm, and that I should contact them, but I'm running the freebie version and so don't anticipate getting much help there.

Is this an issue of ports (opening/forwarding)? If so, I have no experience in that and would appreciate if someone could take a second to let me know what they think should be done. I'm willing to just scrap Zonealarm and try something that works better with the router if need be, but I'm willing to bet someone who knows what they're doing could fix this easily, and that the problem is with me.

Go into the router and turn off the blocking of computers not running ZA. I'm not sure if this is the problem but I do know that I've seen such as problem in DLink routers before because some models now have a feature(some added with firmware update) which will allow you to configure the router with ZA so they don't interfere with eachother, it aslo has a feature which will let you block computers not running ZA so that you don't have unprotected machines on the network. While this is a good idea in theory, it also causes problems for people who don't know it is there.

BTW, the setup you mention where one laptop is "base" as you call it, is incorrect. When using a router to share your internet, the router itself is the server and all computers are the clients. This misconception causes a lot of confusion and sometimes makes it difficult to diagnose a problem when you call one machine a "base" or "server" when it is not.

Greetings allJust received a new X61 that seems unable to maintain a conistent broadband connection, either via wifi or direct ethernet cable.  Wifi signal is good and strong, icon sometimes indicates internet access, sometimes not. If I reset the adapter I can get actual internet access for a few minutes before it  goes out again. With a direct ethernet cable connection it does not seem to get internet access at all. Running diagnostic sometimes brings up firewall error 'Query User', sometimes DNS error. Dial-up seems to work fine. Machine is running Vista Business Edition, w/  Intel WiFi link 4965AGN. So far I have updated wireless adapter driver, installed Vista sp1 + all other updates, tried disabling Windows Firewall, and upgraded the firmware on my wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). All other computers are connecting to this network with no problems. Also spoke to Lenovo tech support -said they don't resolve network issues (they suggested de-installing ThinkVantage connection app, that hasn't helped either). If anyone out there has even the vaguest clue what could be causing this any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! Welcome to the forums! Seems rather perplexing. Troubleshooting time! A few questions before starting:- did you ever have networking capability on the laptop at all? - did you make any changes in the BIOS that could affect networking?- did you have networking capability before installing SP1 on Vista?- did you check the power settings in Vista for your ethernet card and wifi card? (Device Manager, networking card, properties). If any you find that the settings are in "power savings" mode, turn those off in the options, reboot the machine and try connecting again.... If this works, then disregard the rest of this post.  Off-hand, it's rather difficult to know where to start with a diagnosis before knowing the history of your networking woes. One could take a stab at trying to figure out what the problems are, but there are a few variables that require attention first ... is this possibly hardware related (router or laptop)? or software related (Vista)?, but we need a starting point. A few points I'd suggest, is to verify the following:1) Press the blue ThinkVantage button to recover/diagnose networking. 2) check your BIOS settings to ensure the ethernet port is enabled and that there are no glaring irregularities in the BIOS.3) check the ethernet first (LAN) bypassing the router thus verifying whether the router is the one causing the issues,4) pending result of 3), check Vista networking settings (did you tweak anything in the OS)?5) byp... HiI owns x220 4290-BH7 model.I recently installed msata (MyDigitalSSD 128GB 50mm Bullet Proof mSATA) on x220.I did a fresh installation of Win7 32-bit on the msata with all the windows update and Lenovo - Updates and Drivers. When i dock or undock the x220 on ultrabase 3, the win7 freezes. I do not have this problem when i boot from my other/previous ssd (1.8") on regular hard drive slot. Is there any suggestion to fix the problem? Thanks.

Hi all. I'm working on a lenovo 3000 n100 laptopt with an onboard wireless device, a linksys wireless n access point. I have the system dual booting Linux and win xp (service pack 3).

linux has no problem finding and connecting through the wireless connection. it found it automatically and allowed me to choose the wireless network i wanted to go to (several were listed).

XP will not find the connection automatically and I have to plug it in directly to the access point.

how do i get the wifi to work in windows?

First check that Windows is recognizing your Wireless device, go to:

Start > Run

Then a box will appear, type:

devmgmt.msc

It will open the "device manager", you should see in "Networking / Network Adapters" your device without any yellow exclamation mark.

If you can't found a network device called "Wireless" or something, or there's a Unknown device with a yellow exclamation mark you'll need to install the driver for that device.

I recently bought a couple of Netgear XS708E 10Gbit switches. I am using a 250ft CAT6e Ethernet between the two to link them and I am getting no connectivity lights at all.

If I use the same cable between my two Cisco 3560's I get connectivity.

If I use a 175ft CAT6e between the two XS708E's I get connectivity.

I called up Netgear and they say the only thing they can think of is to use a repeater (which is not feasible because they are going underground through conduit).

Any ideas on what to try? It's clear the cables are working. They are below the CAT6e threshold and at the very least, if they weren't, the speed should just be lower.

Anything else I could try?

I'm trying to set up a Guest VLAN for wireless at a client site, and I feel like I'm missing something small in the configuration, since I can't ping any of the VLAN interfaces from my laptop when the address is statically set to something in the 172.20.100.x range.

I've pasted the configs for the ASA 5505 and the 6 switches below for convenience. Near as I can tell, all should be well. The ports are in trunking mode, the "show cdp neighbors" command returns the proper information, VLAN 100 exists on all the switches, etc.

Hoping someone smarter than I can show me where I went wrong.

Hey all,
I'm having some difficulty with my WiFi connection. The problem began over the summer, and has been getting progressively worse. When the problem began, I was living in a different house. I recently moved to a new house and the problem has continued and worsened at the original rate without skipping a beat. In the specs below are the data for my CURRENT modem/router device, idk what my old one was. My laptop is usually able to connect to the network extremely well; high download/upload rates and strong connection, etc. However, occasionally and with no clear correlation to any other conditions or events, my connection drops. There are 3 other computers (2 laptops and a desktop, the laptops are Macs and the desktop is running Windows 7) and an xbox in my house. All of these have no such issue in connecting to the network. My laptop is the only victim. My drivers are all up to date. The strange thing is that when my connection 'drops,' it doesn't really drop. My laptop is able to see the network, but will not connect. ThinkVantage Access Connections (TVAC) attempts to connect after losing the link but, after about 2-3 minutes of trying, gives up and tells me that the wep/wpa-psk information is not being accepted by the network. Windows Network Connections (WNC) shows the yellow exclamation symbol and alerts me that I am connected, but that I have "no internet access." Try with the router's encryption disabled. If that works OK then try WPA-PSK TKIP encryption.

Hi, I think my internet connection is continually being interrupted by my next door neighbors. We live in a condominium and there is only a thin wall between us. Perhaps they are running an xbox or cell phone. I have a Netgear N150 USB wireless adapter. What can I do to keep my internet connection from constantly being broken?

Also, my Microsoft Essentials Antivirus won't update any more. Thanks.

Probably best to re-install MSE, as for your neighbour possibly interfering with your connection, it may just be a channel change in your router is all that's needed.

Download/Run this prog Download inSSIDer and Discover the Wi-Fi Networks Around You | MetaGeek and it will show the channels that are being used by yourself and those around you. Ideally setting your channel to 3 away from the nearest is best (because of overlap) but that isn't always possible depending on the congestion.

Do what you can with this and you are looking for a channel that will give you a RSSI of around -50dB. It's when you are close to or using the same channel as someone else and the RSSIs converge that causes this type of problem.

Hello there,

I have a bit of an odd issue connecting to my internet at home. My laptop will display 'limited or no connectivity' with both the wireless connection and the cable connection if I have it plugged in directly to the wireless router (and can't connect to the internet).
However, this issue goes away if I run my VPN software (ExpressVPN), on both wireless and cable connections.

No other devices have this issue in my house (phones and computers), and (before yesterday) my laptop did not experience this issue when connecting to other networks.

My laptop is running Windows 8.1.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

I haven't made any changes to the modem - and it has been working fine up until the last couple of days.

I just read through that article, and disconnected my VPN to start looking at the problem, and it seems to have resolved itself. Will monitor it over the next week or so, and see what happens.:confused

Alright, I bought an Acer notebook today that came pre-installed with Vista. I have a cable internet connection and it connected when I plugged it in, but the connection isn't stable at all. It cuts in and out regularly. I saw the threads on the problems with McAfee, but I have Norton. I uninstalled that. I don't even know where to start now.

Hi: I see your notebook came with DOS. Did you install the Realtek bluetooth driver?  If not, you need to.  Windows installs a generic bluetooth driver which usually is not enough for the bluetooth to work. This package contains the driver installation package for the Realtek Bluetooth in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system. File name: sp73250.exe

cannot connect to wifi signal,  wifi signal shows up , gives option to connect, but just spins and spins, when i try to connect.  recognizes wifi siganl when i am in the room with router gets 5 bars. I get a red x on the 802.11 wirelesslan card but it shiws 5 green bars and the wifi network shows up when i click on it. , when  i do a trouble shoot it indicates, noe of the networks you have previously connevted to are in range.

Hello, I have a problem with the wifi.It detects connections but once I try to connect the result is an error.I tryed to install all the latest drivers but is not working.I tryed automatic updates.... does not work. Using the device manager it seems the problem is related to the PCI and Ethernet device, but I do not know how to fix them.Thanks for your help.
