I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

yes your machine supports a backlit keyboard. It is probably easier and cheaper to buy it on places like ebay. Also remove your serial number from view.

I haven't been able to find anyone else reporting this issue, but it seems the X230 Tablet has "feature" whereby the screen dims the backlight slowly when a dark image is displayed, and brightens it slowly when a lighter image is displayed. Does anyone else experience this? I find it very annoying, and not even helpful when the transition is finished. I would prefer to have the full brightness, as the dark pixels on the screen appear plenty dark to me. If I'm concerned for battery life, I can dim the backlight myself. But to change from a dark window to a light window and find that the contrast is diminished for 10 seconds as it slowly ramps up is getting on my nerves. I suspect that it's not even the backlight, but the very brightness of the pixel, because when I switch to an image with a mid-value, subtle gradient (e.g. medium gray to dark gray), I can see the bands of color moving across the gradient as the fading happens. If it were only the backlight, the bands should remain static, and thus not so noticeable. I'll try to disable it, and if I find a solution, I'll post it here. Of course, if anyone else has already done this, please let me know!

Hey monking, I was also having the same problem, it was anoying the hell out of me, espically when going form a dark screen to text on a white background, the text would be almost unreadable for about 10 seconds. I just found the solution on the following page:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T410-T420-Screen-flickering-randomly-screen...(I know it's not the exact same problem, but the solution is the same) I hope that helps...

Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

Answer:x230 Tablet keyboard issue

I would just replace the keyboard.  This sort of problem is almost always a short in the keyboard.  Used ones are commonly available.  The T430, X230, T530, W530 all use the same keyboard

Hi, the backlight on my keyboard(Z500 non-touch screen) has stopped working in the past 24hrs I have looked at the other solutions to fix this problem, like pressing fn + space, which i have spammed 10's of times to jump start it, and i ahve also reinstalled lenovo energy management however that also didnt work. i have also turned it off and on again several times, poked t with a stick and threatened it( to throw it out the window) but still didnt work. The back light has been working perfectly well uptil now. It did light up for about 2 seconds when i was in the middle of my university work, however i dont think they would be related. The last time i had the light working was when i was on the train and i had to quickly shut the laptop down while it was restarting as i didnt reliase I had arrived at my stop, however i have done that a few times before without any side effects. Any ideas how it happened or to try and fix it??

Updating to Windows 10 might have disabled/removed the Samsung Settings application which enables the function keys. I power down the Helix, and close the lid, but the red LED (the dot of the "i") on the lid stays on. I think this means the Helix is in "sleep" mode and did not power down completely. Does that sound right ?  I haven't found a good description of what these red LEDs indicate.   -steve

Mine only does this when I close the computer without shutting down. Perhaps you closed it too fast, and it went into sleep mode before it got to shut down properly? When I shut it down, the light does not stay on at all after I close it up.

When I fold the notebook into tablet mode, the keyboard turns off which makes sense and a prompt comes up for switching to tablet mode, but when I want to switch back, the keyboard doesn't come back on and I have to restart. The frustrating part is that quite often I get prompted to switch to tablet mode when I'm simply using the laptop normally (desktop mode), making the keyboard turn off and it doesn't turn back on again. I've tried suppressing tablet mode in the settings but now it just seems to turn off without even prompting, not solving the problem. Is there a way to manually force the keyboard on and off or a way to completely disable this function? Thanks

So, got my Yoga yesterday. After repartitioning the hard drive (what is Lenovo thinking?) and restoring from my USB recovery disk, I have a nicely working computer. Except for one slightly annoying thing. When I flip the screen over into tablet mode the keyboard becomes disabled (perfect). When I flip the screen back over into the normal laptop position the keyboard remains disabled (ugh!!!). The only solution I have at the moment is to close the laptop and reopen it. The keyboard works again but I have to relog into Windows. Running Windows 8. Only things I did other then changing the drive partitions is remove some unwanted default software that was installed.

I have the most unbelievably annoying problem. I have the Thinkpad Yoga 11e, if I go to tablet mode the screen works as expected and the first time you do this upon a fresh boot, it will work properly. However, once you go back to laptop mode the mouse/keyboard are disabled and you can only use the touch screen. Occasionally, you can flip it back to tablet mode and the mouse/keyboard start working again (incorrect as well).  I tried a full system recovery, the problem still exists. The only solution I have found to fix this is usually to put the laptop to sleep, or to reboot. Some of the time it won't fix the issue and I have to just keep trying to eithe rreboot/sleep/wake it back up.  This has to be the worst problem I can possibly imagine having with a laptop like this. I only purchased it to use it in tablet and laptop mode, I switch it a lot, and it simply can't do it.  Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Answer:Thinkpad 11e shuts off keyboard and mouse incorrectly when going from tablet to laptop and back

I am currently working with around 10 machines that have a similar issue to yours.  I am a Certified Lenovo Self Maintainer.  My issue so far is only related to machines that I have ordered and replaced a System board on for various other reasons.  IE:  A couple of them would not turn on or do anything and problem only occurred after replacing system board sent from lenovo. My exact issue which I can replicate on any machine I have replaced a system board is as follows. Computer turns on and allows me to update the Serial number using the Lenovo Hardware Maintenance disk.  After rebooting from updating the serial number windows will begin to load.  During loading you will get updating devices and then as soon as it gets about to the log in screen the computer will flip the screen 90 degrees like its in tablet mode and the keyboard and touch pad will no longer work.  This problem will persist as far as the keyboard and touchpad even in bios although the screen orientation is correct.  I am only able to get the keyboard and mouse to function again by shutting the machine off pulling the hard drive out and turning on then the keyboard and mouse will again function after shutting off again and putting the drive back in.  I have also tracked part of the problems to the I2C driver in that I did a complete fresh install of windows everything worked after installing all software except the touch screen and the... Hi I've had the Dell XPS 8700 for over a year now and it's an excellent Desktop.
I've recently moved my tower to a new location and notice there is a solid orange light on all the time inside the PC, I believe it's on the motherboard... should I be worried this is on all the time? It's just I've never noticed it before.
Also on the back of the PC there is a solid green light, I'm guessing this is to just tell me the PC has Power.
I tried a google search but everyone with the orange light seems to have PC issues, my pc is working fine as far as I can tell.

Answer:Dell XPS 8700 Orange Light inside and Green Light on Back

LED on the motherboard will be on as long as the PC is plugged into a working outlet. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
If you unplug the PC from the wall and press/hold the power button for ~15 sec, that LED will go off. Again, perfectly normal...
Green LED says there's power to the PSU.

In the Windows METRO mode, the touch keyboard will automatically come out when the focus is in a text field. In the Windows desktop mode, one way to get the Touch keyboard is:Click the key combination: Windows + C to bring up the Charm.Click the Settings.Click Keyboard and select the Touch Keyboard. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not remember the selection so the next time you click on a text field, you have to go through the process again. I hope MS will change this. Even better is if the X230T is in a tablet mode (meaning the screen is lay flat and on top of keyboard, it will be smart enough to use Touch Keyboard by default. Edit: Another way to display the Touch Keyboard is to click the Touch Keyboard icon at the task bar.

Question: X230 Tablet newbie

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Lenovo X230 Tablet. Specificly a 3434-CTR.

Now, as far as I know, a X230 tablet should have a multitouch screen and pressure sensitive built in Wacom tablet.

I just got this machine and it has a pre-installed copy of Windows 7 64bit Professional on it so I would gather that it has all necesery drivers already installed.

Problem is, the touch screen simply doesn't work - it doesn't respond to my fingers at all. It does work with the stylus pen, though. But it doesn't support pressure sensitivity. I tried using a portable drawing program that has never failed to work with any pressure sensitive pen tablet but it simply didn't work.

I'm guessing that there are some drivers I should install, but I don't know what to look for.

Is it possible that a 3434-CTR doesn't have a multitouch screen nor a pressure sensitive pen tablet?

Welcome to the community.

You may wish to visit the Parts Lookup page. Fill in your S/N and machine type (3434) and it should return a list of parts that went into your build. Either post the whole list back here, or, if it's obvious, post the P/Ns for the LCD panel and we can try to assist further.

Is there a way to specify different actions for the pen buttons?  For example, when using one specific program, I'd like the side button to function as if it were the shift key instead of the right-click but then have it operate as the standard right-click when in Windows or other programs. Is this a native functionality or is there a third-party program available that could give me such options?

Answer:X230 Tablet Pen Options

aardvarky, This is an excellent question! I definitely understand your wants! Officially, it needs to be a setting inside the software you want to use the digitizer pen in.

Examples:

With the new TBT2 there is a software called QuickSnip, insdie the QuickSnip settings you can change the digitizer pen button from right click to screen capture.

Inside OneNote you can change the settings of the Pen Buttons, here is a link to a X230T Digitizer Pen Input Youtube video that may have more clairification.

So, as Digitizer Pen Technology becomes more popular, I believe we will begin seeing more Applications and Software adding the technology to enhance their user customizations.

Hi all,the camera indicator is not working. When I turn on the settings, I can see the camera itself is working fine, but the light is not on.I received this machine yesterday. I guess I'm just bad luck and got a defective one. Although not a big issue, kinda annoying.Any other suggestions?

Answer:New x230 camera light not working

I checked out the User Guide for the X230. There does not seem to be an on/off indicator light for the Camera. On page 8 and 9 it states that there are indicator lights for the following:

Front: Wireless LAN/WAN/WiMAX/Bluetooth status indicator, Device access status indicator, Power on status indicator
Back: Power jack and Fan louvers

However on page 6 I found that some models have a ThinkLight Light that is located next to the camera.

The ThinkLight light enables you to use your computer when the lighting condition is not ideal. To turn on the ThinkLight light, press the Fn key and the space key together. To turn it off, press the combination again.

I would also suggest checking to make sure the most updated Camera drivers are installed on your new X230.

This is the link for all of your X230 Camera Drivers. You can find all of the X230 driver matrix here.
From the drivers link you can also subscribe to receive updates as new Drivers become available.

I hope this information was helpful, please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

I used the X230 Thinkpad Tablet in tablet mode and when I went back to use it as a laptop, the touchpad no longer works.  I can use the keyboard and use the touchscreen but not the touchpad.  When I go into the control panel for Windows 7 and the mouse settings, the touchpad options to activate are not available. The touchpad mouse works before I log into the machine, but when my desktop shows and I try to use the various programs, the touchpad is not activated. How do I get the touchpad to work again?

Will the GOBI card work with UK mobile broadband, or do I need to get an Ericsson card to replace it ?

I am in the process of upgrading my X200 Tablet to the X230T. I had the ultrabase with the X200T with the following accessories Serial Ultrabay Slim DVD Multi (P/N 42T2515) and the ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter II (P/N 43R1984). I have yet to talk with anyone at Lenovo or read anywhere online if these two accessories with be compatible with the Thinkpad Series 3 Ultrabase. Does anyone have any further information. I would hope I would not need to purchase these again.

Answer:X230 Tablet Ultrabase Compatibility

they use the same type of connector and slots, so it should be compatible in that regard.

hello to all, my first post, I hope I'm not asking to much!  I want to make sure that the X230t fits my requirements.  First & foremost, does the X230 t measure 12" X 9" X 1.23" with or without battery installed? (so that it fits in my hard shell case) Secondly, when using the X230t to read a pdf doc, can you increase the size of text by using two finders on display and spreading fingers apart?   And can you move the pdf page by moving one finger on display? (if only portion of page is displayed) Can you have a pdf doc opened on half of display, while taking notes with digy pen on other half of the display? Can the digypen be used with word and excel?thanks, and have a great day

1. the measurement you have is with the 3 cells battery fitted, it is not the measurement for the X230 with 6 cells battery fitted. The 6 cells battery will add another 1 inch to the measurement of 9 inch. 2. Yes, you can zoom by pinch. The movement of page with one finger depends on type of pdf software you use. 3. Yes you can write on the screen whilst having a pdf doc opened on half of the screen. 4. Yes, you can with a digitiser pen in both the Excel and Word. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037681356/http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037657335/

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

Hello all,I have 230X tablet and I upgraded it to windows 8.Since the upgrade, I feel that the power manager shows wrong time remaining, and every time I try to configure something with the power manager dashboard it crushes as "not responding".I read that the battery should last for 7+ hours, but after a full charge it shows only 3+ I also installed the latest driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't help. Does it sounds familiar? Does anyone has a solution? Thanks!

Answer:Power manager X230 Tablet

Hi, As far as I know, Lenovo has not supported Power Management for Windows 8 yet. What you said happends to me too. The time remaining is not accurate. Sometimes it drops from 25% to 10%, and the computer goes to sleeps after a few seconds... But after I reset my battery gauge, it solves the problem. By somehow, I discover that Power Management does work in Guest Account. You should perform Battery Gauge Reset in your Guest Account. Here is what I do: You should activate your Guest account (When you hit Windows key, type Accounts, Users accounts (in setting) -> Manage other Account -> Turn on GUEST account. You run battery reset there. (it takes long time since the computer will fully charge your battery and then completely discard and then chage again). Unfortunately, you cannot switch account during you perform battery reset and you cannot turn off computer during that time. It takes about ...12h to perform the task. But it works for me. The drawback of Guest account is you cannot connect to internet. I hope that LENOVO would support Power Management soon!. Too bad for a business laptop .

I recently purchased a X230 type 3434-CTO Tablet (the one with gorilla glass). The first night I had it it worked great and I was incredibly happy with my purchase. At the end of the night I began installing an update for windows and let it run overnight. The next day I encountered severe problems with the touch screen. Pen input will not function at all in tablet mode and intermitently in laptop mode. I began with restoring windows to before I updated, then reinstalled windows and all drivers ect. Nothing has worked so far. I brought it to the IT department at my school and they tried using older drivers ect, nothing has worked so far. I am increidbly frustrated, has anyone else encountered this  or a similar issue? Thank you for your time and thought

Answer:x230 Tablet "Black Button"

I have not discovered a way revamp the Black Button without changing the registry, However, this may be a good alternative for you to create your own hard shortcuts in Windows 8:

Use the [Win-Logo]+[D] to see the Windows-8 desktop.
Right click on the Windows-8 desktop and select New, Shortcut.
Then in the called input box simply enter the appropriate shortcut text.
(found under the properties of the desired program)
Once a desktop shortcut is made, right click the shortcut, press properties and shortcut key replace none with the key or key combination you would like to use.

Then Pin the Desktop Shortcut to Start (Menu). To do this right click on the desktop shortcut and select "Pin to Start"

I also thought I would share the official Windows 8 shortcuts with you.

Hey guys, I'm new on this forum and I'm also new in using X230 tablet or any 2-in-1 laptop. This is my second ThinkPad but first convertible laptop. About problems. Shortly after I've got this ThinkPad I've installed Windows 10 because in my opinnion it works better and IS better than Win7. But after installation, I've encountered a few problems.First problem was no auto rotation - I could do that only by installing drivers for Tablet Buttons (it didn't bother me that much as next few problems).Second problem was not working Dolby Profile - anyone has suggestions why? I've read that eccp4.exe or something like that is not supported in Win10. The only thing with Dolby that did work was Dolby Digital Plus (and the equalizer there is horrible!).And third, and also MAIN problem was random screen touches. Did anyone encountered this kind of problem on yours X230 tablet? It happened only when I was fully in "tablet mode". Like for example I was doing some notes on classes and A LOT of times Action Center came up. With no touch from my side - I was only writing notes or not even touching the screen. Also normal touches appeared, not only Action Center sliding. Firstly I've got a little scared because it's used laptop bought on something like ebay. But my second thought was to go back to Win7 from recovery (which didn't work with F8, I've used SWM/WIM tutorial to fully recover system). And finally it seems that this problem doesn't occur on Win7. When I'm in full "table... Read more

Answer:X230 tablet - Windows 10 and 7 problems

i've been running windows 10 as a devoloper since before its's launch with very few issues.First make sure you download the drives from lenovo for winows 10 that till fix most of your issues.some things are just not compatable with the windows 10 OS look for replacements in the windwos store but your dolby does have a driver update. for some reason the thinkvantage software does not down load the drivers for you you'll have to do that on your own. Once you download all your drivers your X230T will run much more normaly. keep in mind however if you have the touch screen model it only supports 2 finger touch while winows 10 supports 10, it still works but many of the gestures don't you can chage your screen if your so inclined as far as i know there is no driver update. Good luck

Applies to being unplugged and plugged in. It's not due to have power consumption, usually just shuts off from within minutes of logging into my account. Safe mode seems to delay this problem for a while. Best way to go about fixing this? Malwarebytes doesnt detect any viruses.

I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet.  The trackpoint and touchpad have stopped working.  This just happened today, after about six months of use.  When I boot the machine, I can move the mouse cursor for a few seconds, but then it stops.  I don't see any error messages.  The Ultranav panel in the mouse control panel applet shows the controls for both trackpoint and touchpad greyed out--they can't be clicked on, and the "enabled" boxes are not checked.  The device manager says that the device is working.  If I try to update the driver, I'm told it is up to date.  If I uninstall the driver and reboot, the trackball and touchpad work, but they seem to be using generic drivers--the ultranav panel does not show in the mouse applet.  I'm told to reboot to complete installation.  However, if I do that, I'm back to square one, with the ultranav not working.  I checked the boot configuration, and it shows both the trackpoint and touchpad as enabled.

I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. The removal of trackpoint 3 click buttons, which were combined with the trackpad. People complain a lot when they accidentally click the trackpad while typing. I am a trackpoint person, not trackpad person. So the removal was **** retarded, anti consumer, anti Thinkpad legacy!Pls, see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb7p3VkQCOo. I did not made this video but 100% agree with this guy.  In addition, it seems to me that newer generations Intel core processor (4th and upcoming 5th) was weeker than ivy bridge processor because Ivy Bridge processors are full power 35W, now, everything is low powered to save the battery life. I have a few questions: 1.Is there anyway, or any company that can make a better thinkpad x230 tablet screen (say upgrading the screen from 1366x768 to higher resolution, improving wacom pen digitizer on the edges 2. My X230 Tablet laptop hangs after booting or reawakening from stand-by. It happens every single time. It lasts for about 2-3 minutes, during which the cursor can be moved but nothing responds. The hard-drive status indicator is constantly on. After 2 or 3 minutes the laptop becomes responsive again and the problem doesn't return until I reboot. Sometimes the problem occurs immediately after booting, sometimes a few minutes later. I've had the problem since I got the laptop.

It still happens after a diagnostic boot, with all services stopped.

When I updated Windows 10 to the newest Version (Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit, Version 1607 Build 14393.82) the autorotate on my Thinkpad X230 Tablet is not working anymore. Using the rotate button the screen rotation changes but there is no screen change when putting the laptop into tablet mode or when rotating the laptop. With the "old" Windows 10 I had no problems with the autorotate function. I observe the following behaviour/errors:In the action center the button rotation lock is present, but doesn't change / unlock the rotation (it says it changes but the icon always stays on locked and there is no change). In the device manager the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 is listed under "unknown".Under "sensors" there were no entries. Hi all, This laptop is giving me nightmares at this point. I can't afford a new one at this moment so i come here for input. The issue I am having right now besides the known audio failure is with the power management, spedificaly the throttling that happens while it is on AC. To me, it seems that the Speedstep roles are reversed. It runs on full turbo speed, over 3ghz on battery but it clocks down to 1198mhz according to CPU-Z when it is plugged in. No combination of settings either in the BIOS, Power manager or the Windows power options have any effect, everything is at 100%. The battery is installed at all time and I have tried both 65 watt and 90 watt AC adapters which are both new. BIOS is updated and I have tried both Win 7 and 10, fully updated with a fresh install with newest drivers and programs and numerous BIOS resets with CMOS battery removed. I am suspecting the power jack at this moment but Power manager reports both AC adapters correctly. I appreciate any response if anybody else has faced this issue or anything like it.

I solved that problem by installing the Win 7 driver "Tablet Shortcut Menu". The UI for that program doesn't work but at least auto screen rotation works perfectly.  Hope it helped.

What is the response time (in ms) of the screen on X230 Tablet?

Answer:What is the response time (in ms) of the screen on X230 Tablet?

It depends on overdrive level applied to the lcd panel. Typically it will be around 16 ms that can be improved to ~ 8ms by overdrive that also affects lifetime of the display. And no, there are no LCD panels with 2 ms response time, it is just marketing fluff (similar to PMPO audio power nonsense).

I have a microphone that works only as such, with no speaker and is not a headset.  I am trying to get it to work with my Lenovo x230 Tablet laptop.

When I plug it into the 3.5mm port on the right side next to the Ethernet input nothing happens and it doesn't show up in my windows sound or do anything except change the top left port under "Analog System" from gray to black.  Unfortunately that is the audio port not the microphone port.  This is shown by the next two pictures.Microphone not plugged in:

So something is up...I tried again by going to the "device advanced settings" and changing it from "classic mode" to "Multi-stream mode".This atleast shows in the windows control that there is a "external mic" and a "docking mic".  I have no idea what the docking mic is.  Anyway this picture below is what happens before I plug in the mic:

And now when I plug it in:

As you can see the windows controller is unchanged in the input recording tab but, the realtek program has detected the mic again by turning on the analog headphone button on.  As well as adding an extra tab to the program called "HD Audio 2nd output".  As far as I can tell t thinks my mic is a headset for some reason.  I wish to change this.  When I switch over to the sound tab on the windows program it shows an added headset which is actually it... Hello, Is it a good or bad idea to upgrade my video card to an NVIDIA GeForce? And why?  Thanks!

Answer:Upgrading Video Card in X230 Tablet?

Pardon my ignorance up front if I am wrong, I have an x220 and have not studied the x230 in any depth, but I suspect this isn't even possible, even on the x230.  On the x220, and I suspect it's much the same for the x230, the video card is a part of the intel chipset (it basically leeches cpu and ram power from the normal system cpu/ram and is not a dedicated removable/upgradable mobile graphics device with it's own cpu/ram like a mobile GeForce or mobile Radeon card). Perhaps there are new inventions on the market that can do the trick, I haven't been keeping up, but when I checked for the x220 their wasn't a viable open slot in the system for putting in such a dedicated mobile card.  The only option was an 'external' hack that allows one to use a dedicated desktop GPU card for when they come home with their system and dock it up to an external monitor.  Looked like a bit of work to set-up but once it was set up and running, it would allow for using a powerful GPU for games and graphic apps etc., while at home/office at least. Would be nice if the newest line of these tablet laptops had room for mobile GPU's, it's about the only thing missing for my interests, however that said, the integrated internal graphics work quite well from my experience, for mild gaming with the settings turned down and for graphic editing (most top 2D and 3D applications work surprisingly well, but far from as good as they would work with dedicated gpu, good ... Hello,First, yes, I realize Windows 8 is not generally available yet, however, a solution may already exist considering the imminent release.I have a X230 Tablet with Windows 8 Enterprise. The 2 USB 3 ports are working, but only at USB 2 speeds (same transfer rates when hooking up a USB 3 device to either of those ports as I get hooking up to the AlwaysOn port on the other side (more or less 25 MB/sec).I never had Windows 7 on this tablet, so I don't have a comparison. However, on a X201 Tablet with a PCIExpress USB 3 add-in card I get transfer speeds of at least 100 MB/sec, which is about as close as you can get I think.Windows 8's (Microsoft's) USB 3 xHCI driver is installed (version 6.2.9200.16420).Are there better drivers available? Am I missing a setting somewhere (in the BIOS perhaps)? Thanks for any assistance,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet USB 3 performs at USB 2 speeds (Windows 8)

I thought I already had checked the most obvious UEFI settings, but I guess not. In the USB category, there is a USB 3 option which was set to Auto. Based on the description, that looks like a good setting. However, I changed it to enabled, and now I have transferred rates of about 75 MB/sec. Still not as good as possible with some other controllers, but hopefully some better drivers are forthcoming.SA.

Hi everyone, Had some questions on some things. First: The computer was advertised with a backlit keyboard but didn't come with it. How would I add it?Second: The memory usage hovers around 2.2 - 2.5 (8gb ram) - this is much higher than my X61T it replaces. Any way to lower or is this normal?Third: I saw in this review: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CCIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%...there is an accelerometer which determines orientation - how do I turn this on? Fourth: A lot of this bloatware that lenovo never works properly - for instance when trying to change the % to how long is left, it doesnt work. Also, when trying to show the different power plans, doesnt seem to work as well.  Other than that the computer seems pretty awesome. Can't wait to get it up and running.

Answer:Just got my new X230 Tablet, had some questions on how to work somethings.

1. The backlit keyboard is optional and not available on all models. Try pressing Fn+Spacebar to see if it turns on - once for Low, one more time for high and again to turn off.2. Is this for the same operating system? As far as i know X61T's shipped only with XP Tablet and Vista. Also, the X3100 graphics chip on the X61 uses up to 384MB of shared memory, whereas the new integrated graphics can take up a lot more. It might help to remove all the Lenovo bloatware you don't need.3. You need to make sure you have the Thinkvantage Active Protection installed. After that you can check in the control panel if it's working (Link to image), or download something like QCNLive that shows the accelerometer readings.4. Can't help you here, as i usually uninstall the stuff i don't need. Just stick to the battery info Windows provides.

I got my X230 Tablet recently and want to run it under Windows 8. After upgrading yesterday, the Touch Screen refuses to work: the position is always in the bottom right corner, but clicking is recognized. The effect is that all windows are closed and opened alternately when touching the screen. Quite annoying, in particular as in Windows 8 the Touch screen would be actually very useful. I updates all drivers and bios, as far as possible, but the Touch Screen behavior remained. Somebody suggested that a clean installation of Windows 8 does lead to a well working Touch Screen. I tried it once, but after about two hours of computer work, Windows came back with the message that the installation failed, and thus I stay with my non working Touch Screen. What do I have to do to get my Touch Screen working again? The Wacom Pen is fine, so I can live with the X230 for the time being, but working with my fingers on the screen would be actually nice - and it beats those iBooks by lengths. Who has ideas?

I purchased a new X230 tablet in August 2013.  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, Office 2010 Pro, and all updates, Microsoft and Lenovo have been applied.  I have, or at least I believe I have, shut off the option of the screen dimming or the machine sleeping in battery mode and while plugged in.  I've noticed this since I first purchased the unit but haven't used it in tablet mode enough to worry about searching out a solution until now. My problem is when put into tablet mode, typically running OneNote, but I've also seen it occur with just the default windows screen up, after a few minutes of inactivity, the screen goes black and I've not been able to wake it back up and am forced to perform a hard shut down. I sure hope there is an easy fix for this.

Oh, and I have the Gorilla glass outdoor screen model and all power management functions in the Bios are shut off. Please help, as right now tablet mode is essentially worthless as the black screen now is appearing right in the middle of writing with the stylus.  After a couple hard shut downs, the Synaptics drivers appear to be blown away and the NavPoint stops working and must have the drivers reinstalled.  Please help.....I'm missing my tablet functionality!!!  Please help.

I use a X230 Tablet, 3434CTO, with 8 GB of RAM (two 4GB 1600HHz memory sticks, factory installed). My operating system is Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.  Memory usage is often in the 80%+ range and the machine slows to the point of being functionally useless. I want to move to 12 or, if necessary, 16 GB of RAM. The part recommended by Lenovo is: Lenovo 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SODIMM Memory (1600MHz)Part number: 0A65724 Do I have to swap out both 4GB memory sticks or can I swap out just one? Thanks in advance.

When I start up my system, all appears to work OK.  Then, at some point both the pen and touch stop working.  When I turn the screen into laptop mode, I find that the mouse pointer and buttons work normally.  The only way to get the pen and touch to work again is to restart the computer. I ran the system update and all the drivers are up to date.  I also tried deleting all the input and screen drivers, and did a reinstall, but that didn't change anything. I'm wondering if it may be a BIOS issue, since I saw a posting that suggested that, but it was not for the x230. This is really driving me nuts...I'm out of ideas.

Answer:X230 Tablet Windows 8 Pen Handwriting software

Hi, hmandi01

In Windows 8, writing-to-text transcription is normally a "keyboard," if you will, that you have to select. When you are on the desktop of your machine, is there a keyboard icon on the taskbar? If this is not visible in laptop mode, then see if it is there in tablet mode. If that icon is visible, click on it. This should bring up the touch keyboard. On this keyboard, the bottom-right key should be another keyboard icon. Select this icon and then select the pen option (third option.) This should change the touch keyboard into a transcription keyboard.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.
Adam

Hey. I've got an x230 with the 4000 series Intel gpu and I still get random brightness changes depending on what is on screen at the time and how much of the screen it occupies. It's actually driving me crazy. The ALS service is disabled, all power plans are set to max performance and I've turned off any sort of brightness/contrast setting within both Lenovo's power manager and the Intel settings. Everything is up-to-date and the problem also presents itself within virtual machines running various flavours of Linux. I'm not sure if solving the problem within Windows 7 will fix the issue as that is the host or I'll have to find a way to stop it on the clients as well. Anyway, please someone tell me how to kill it. Makes me want to throw my laptop out the window when it simply won't do what I ask of it. This silly ALS setting is set in so many different places and clearly I'm missing one which is over-riding the rest. Just messy. Help!

Answer:X230 Tablet and Ericsson H5321 wwan problem

Solution wasn't so simple... The Lenovo support changed a new Gobi 3000 wwan card. That was ok to the bios and laptop was running ok on windows 7. Everything worked well at least in Finland. So the Ericsson wwan card will not work current bios version. This is not mentioned on product catalog. The support changed this board without any costs. Windows 8 problems: Then I changed from win7 pro to win8 pro... Gobi 3000 drivers are not currently on Lenovo website, but you could find the drivers from other website. Drivers called LenovoGobi3kSetup.exe seem to be working ok on Windows 8. You'll find the link from the community to those drivers. ....but! It works until you rotate the display top of the keyboard. Then mobile broadband is disabled and there is no way to turn on this feature. Windows 8 troubleshoot says that the wwan switch is disabled and advices to enable the switch. But there is no any switch for wwan module!!! On windows 7 will work similary but you can switch wwan on when change the display rotation. Settinga are as well in FN+F5 button. But it will not work on windows 8 similary. It just disables all wifi actions. Solution for wwan switch enabling: Just install think vantage access for windows 7! It will give some errors, but ignore them. It will install finally and then you can switch wwan module again on. On my laptop this seem to be working now ok. I'm using think vantage acces only to enable the wwan modul... Read more

Hi everyone:I am considering to upgrade my wireless adapter for my laptop. Currently I am using Thinkpad X230 Tablet with Intel Centrino Wireless N 2200. My laptop has bluetooth. I have questions:1. Does the bluetooth come with my wireless adapter? I mean that If I upgrade my wireless card, do I have to buy a card with wifi and bluetooth? 2. I am considering to upgrade to Intel 62205 AN. This is the linkhttp://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=INT-62205&show=p Is that worth to upgrade? (functionality, price, ...)  Is the product compatible with my current Thinkpad X230T?  3. Can I install 2 cards and run silmultanerously . It sounds greedy but I know a software, named "connectify"; it allows laptop to connect many networks silmutanerously, for example: 4G, Lan, wifi.  4. I see some people mention about Intel Ultimate 6300. What additional functionalities do I get compared to 62205  or Intel 2200? Thank you.

Answer:Upgrade Wireless Adapter for Thinkpad X230 Tablet

1. Bluetooth and wireless cards are separate on the ThinkPad X220, X220t, X230, and X230s. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8276508687/in/set-721576320273504682. You would need an Intel 6205 card with Lenovo FRU number on it, generic one won't work. 2200 only operates in the 2.4 ghz bandwidth, while the 6205 can operate in both 2.4 and 5 ghz bandwidth. So the question is does your router have 5 ghz bandwidth and support MIMO?3. No you can't. The WWAN/mSATA slot would give an error message saying an unauthorized card is installed (1801 error). 4. 6300 card has 3 x 3 setup and operates in 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz range. Max speed of 450 mpbs6205 has 2 x 2 setup, 2.4/5 ghz range, and max speed of 300 mbps.2200 has 2 x 2 setup, but operates in the 2.4 ghz range and max speed of 300 mbps.

Hello,  I'm having some trouble with turning on my laptop. The problem originally started when some keys on my keyboard stopped working. I cleaned the keys, restarted my laptop, tried a previous restore point and then did a hard reset after nothing worked to fix my laptop.  After hard resetting, I tried turning on my laptop and it did not turn on. So far, I've plugged in my laptop into the adaptor, plugged the adaptor directly into the wall outlet, and removed the battery and plugged in the laptop. The one thing I have noticed with my laptop is that when I plug in the adaptor, the battery and sleep lights turn on for a moment, then the sleep light turns off, and the battery light will stay on momentarily but then it will blink off after a few seconds. What else should I do? Thank you

I recently upgraded my X230 Tablet to Windows 10. A few days ago, I tried (for the first time with Win10) to use the tablet in seconday landscape screen orientation as an inking tablet in front of my LT1421p monitor, can't use primary landscape mode for that because the battery is higher than the front of the X230t which would make it uncomfortable. However, it failed and TSMResident.exe reported "Display cannot switch to secondary landscape in this configuration." I already know that there is a "feature" which prohibits secondary landscape when using the internal WWAN module, but the module is turned off - and when only using WiFi, secondary landscape has always been available on my X201t and the X230t with Windows 8.1.Anyway, I tried switching of all wireless connections using the hardware switch - secondary landscape is still now working. Because of that, I think that there is a bug in the Tablet Button driver software that prevents it from correctly detecting the status of the wireless modules. Are there any X230t owners around here with the same problem or maybe even a solution?

Answer:X230 Tablet - Win10 bug with secondary landscape orientation?

Any X230t owners around? Maybe somebody of the community moderators knows how to file a bug report about this? I simply can't believe that there is no fix for a simple driver bug for a device which is not even three years old...
