I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can't get my digitizer pen out of its slot.  I know i need to push it in to get it out.  Its done this before, but I was able to get it out using a small little precision screw driver but it cant seem to get it out.  Would i have to send this back to the factory?  I also noticed that hte screen has a dust particle in it.    i only have the factory warranty.  Also, is there any store, best buy etc. that sells x230 tablet digitizer pens besides buying it directly from lenovo?  Any help would be appreciated.

When I reboot in the Tablet Modus it also doesn't work. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE????????? Thank you soooo much. David

Well, I've finally had it. I've had my 6365 CTO X60 tablet pc for over a year now and last Monday I lost pen functionality in tablet pc mode in the afternoon after working fine in the morning. It works fine, even now after rotating the screen back to laptop mode. As soon as the screen is rotated back to tablet pc mode, no pen functionality but the mouse still works fine so I know it's functional in laptop mode but rotate back, all ok!  I did uninstall the Wacom drivers, restart, and then downloaded the tablet pc, windows xp version drivers from the wacom.com site as instructed in a previous post. Unfortunately, the digitizer pen is still disabled in tablet pc mode and works fine when rotated back to laptop mode. I've called Lenovo tech support in Atlanta four times now and they've been totally useless. I wiped out my X60 tablet last Friday and used Rescue and Recovery to reinstall the operating system back to it's factory settings. I went back and unistalled and reinstalled the Wacom driver. Nothing. Since that didn't work either I've requested the box to ship this back to the Memphis Depot. Hopefully, I'll just get a new replacement machine that works but I'm so angry and frustrated w/ Lenovo's support because it's obvious that the people on the phone are not tech specialists and they couldn't even point me in a direction to get this fixed. It's cost me over a week now wo... Answer:X60 tablet pc digitizer pen functionality disabled in tablet pc mode

Problem solved! While the support folks weren't able to fix the problem over the phone, they did overnite me a prepaid return box which I sent back that day. Two days later they overnited my X60 tablet back fixed with a note saying 'LCD enabled'. I'm impressed how quickly they got my tablet pc back up and running. I'm glad I got that 3-yr. support warranty because I usually opt out of those things. This totally paid for itself. I just wish I hadn't been so reluctant to send back my laptop because I do need it for work and I figured I wouldn't get it back for at least a week or longer. I was so frustrated and pessimistic that I forgot sometimes these problems do get fixed in a very satisfactory manner. It's too bad the initial steps that led to sending it back were so painful. Bottom line: Lenovo fixed my pc quickly, no questions asked. Thanks!

Hello, I cant seem to find out how to activate the WLAN-Adapter under my freshly Installed Windows 7 x64 Professional on my x230 Tablet. I installed the Lenovo System Update software and downloaded all the drivers it told me that there are. I also tried the WLAN drivers from the support website for my device. I also checked the BIOS settings, where all the I/O Devices are enabled. It still wont show up as an Adapter under Win7.  Intel Management and Security Status Application also says the Link of it is down.I also checked for the killswitch and made sure its disengaged (so the color its showing is green which means on - when I turn this off and on the system also detects the bluetooth adapter coming on). Please help. Greetings, Tom Rieck

Hello, does anyone have similar problem with installation of an ericsson H5321 wwan card? The wwan card was ordered from the official lenovo dealer. The card wasn't installed when I ordered the laptop, but the card itself was delivered separately. The wwan should be on whitelist according to lenovo list, but... The problem is that bios doesn't allow the computer to startup. The bios generates an error: "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in.... (0BDB/1926) Computer could be started only without the wwan. Answer:X230 Tablet and Ericsson H5321 wwan problem

Solution wasn't so simple... The Lenovo support changed a new Gobi 3000 wwan card. That was ok to the bios and laptop was running ok on windows 7. Everything worked well at least in Finland. So the Ericsson wwan card will not work current bios version. This is not mentioned on product catalog. The support changed this board without any costs. Windows 8 problems: Then I changed from win7 pro to win8 pro... Gobi 3000 drivers are not currently on Lenovo website, but you could find the drivers from other website. Drivers called LenovoGobi3kSetup.exe seem to be working ok on Windows 8. You'll find the link from the community to those drivers. ....but! It works until you rotate the display top of the keyboard. Then mobile broadband is disabled and there is no way to turn on this feature. Windows 8 troubleshoot says that the wwan switch is disabled and advices to enable the switch. But there is no any switch for wwan module!!! On windows 7 will work similary but you can switch wwan on when change the display rotation. Settinga are as well in FN+F5 button. But it will not work on windows 8 similary. It just disables all wifi actions. Solution for wwan switch enabling: Just install think vantage access for windows 7! It will give some errors, but ignore them. It will install finally and then you can switch wwan module again on. On my laptop this seem to be working now ok. I'm using think vantage acces only to enable the wwan modul... Read more

If it is under warranty, call for service, rather than dealing with it. The first step is to unplug it and remove the battery. Press the power button 5 times, holding it for 10 seconds on the last push. Put it back together; plug it in, and try again.

I have been using my X230T for about 1 month now.I love it,Contrary to many review, mine came in with no manufacturing default.it sit straight, all part are solid in place. The hand writing is awsome. But I do found that the screen scratches to easily, even the pen after long period of use can make smal scratch. I would have love to see this laptop with the Gorilla screen. And the camera cover is not strong enough, Mine is already cracked. Hoping I can change that eventually. I have one problem that came up recently. When I use it in tablet mode for a long period of time, the mouse pad, button and track ball all stop working.Restart does not fix it, I know I can remove the drivers and run driver update, but this is not a solution.I would really like to see this issue fixed, and if you need me to run test, report to try and build a case scenario I am more then willing to do so.

Answer:X230 Tablet Personnal rewview and minor problem

For the screen scratches I would recommend a screen protector. I myself using on efor about 30? (you consider myself a bit mad^^) But I also assume that its lifespan is about 3 years so the price is ok for me. How did your camera cover crack? Just by the torsion the screen is exposed to? or something else? Regarding your input periphals:What do you mean by "restart does not fix it"? Do mean that they won't take up their work even after you restart the system?

I have a Thinkpad X41 Tablet and my digitizer pen is stuck in the computer and won't release.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem.

Answer:Tablet Digitizer Pen

It depends on where it is stuck.  Sometimes you can separate the keyboard bezel from the lower case, just slightly, and the pen will come out.  You can also use tweezers to see if you can grap the pen clip and pull it out.

Not sure whether I should have posted this in Hardware or Windows 8 or hardware.

Against my better judgement, I bought a Lenovo B540 all in one computer that ran Windows 8. It was beautiful, it ran well and fast... until 3 months later when my 2 year old took a metal hole punch to the side of the screen. For the first week, it wasn't a big deal. I could still use the mouse fine, I could even touch it if I wanted (But I figured that it was a bad idea). The crack was on the far left high corner of the screen, so it only ventured a hairline into the actual display and was not a distraction at all.

Nearing week 2, the digitizer started going out. It started pulling my mouse near the cracked corner of the screen when I tried to use it. I tried calling Lenovo tech support, and they were useless. They just read to me things that I had already learned from looking online. They are trained monkeys that know how to read and operate a mouse.

Apparently, Windows 8 has tied their display driver in with the one that operates the touch screen, so there is NO WAY to disable the display driver. I tried all that I could while the screen still worked. Nothing that I tried, or found worked in time.. Because when the touch screen went down for good (as I thought it might) it took the display with it.

I can turn it on, hear it work, but the main problem is that the two are tied together and my mouse is geared up towards the upper left corner and I cannot see it.

If I could just insta... Read more

Answer:Windows 8 Display + Digitizer driver problem (Lenovo All in One: B540)

And... I know that I can send it in to the trained monkeys to diagnose and repair it for a one time $85 fee. But they will not give me a quote on how much it will cost to replace the digitizer before I send it. The customer service rep said

" I know that it costs around $350 to replace a laptop screen, but I am not sure about a touch screen" * SMH... I could replace a laptop screen for $50-$100!!!. How much are they GOING to charge. I am not going to gamble $85 on the chance that they will charge me more than it cost to buy my computer in the first place.

I asked if I could buy the all-in-one case including the touch screen, digitizer, lcd.

"Well, no... repairing these is such a delicate process that we simply do not allow these parts to be sold"

FML!!! This is exactly why I have never bought an Apple. Lenovo is no better than Apple. They assume that you, the customer, are entirely dumb and cannot put the insides of your existing computer into a new screen/case.

Gah.. Should have bought a desktop. But there's my rant. Never buy an all-in-one if you have a child who might destroy the screen in the house. ESPECIALLY not Lenovo, because not only will they not quote you a price on repair, they won't even sell you the parts to repair it yourself.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and did a search. I could not find the answer to this question and was hoping someone had the answer to my question. When doing dual screens, with display port plugged in, and do extended monitor; i find that my digitizer/touch tries to work on both screens. is there a way to only have the digitizer work on the screen with the actual touch screen / digitizer sensor on it. I bought the x220 tablet thinking I could have an extended monitor on a book, or presentation, while my tablet could be on one note taking notes on the tablet. I know a possible "solution" could be why don't I print it up to one note, and mark it up there. I like to outline on a different page it helps me remember the content I?m reading. Thank you your help is very much appreciated.

(Handwritten, that is)
I am new to digital saving of handwriting and writing on a screen, have no need to draw anything, just taking notes from meetings and such. I understand it could work with MS Onenote or similar software
Should I wait for the optimal future 8 incher with Wacom support? Or could I achieve sufficient results with any type of stylus?
Thanks

Answer:Do I need a digitizer to take notes on my future tablet?

In my opinion an active stylus is the best stylus. Wacom is the best from what I hear. I have one on my tablet. Love it. It is nice being able to rest your palm on the screen without it messing things up. It makes digital handwriting natural. There is a "Asus Note 8" tablet I believe it is called that is 8 inches and has Wacom support. It comes with the Stylus. It was just released today from the Microsoft store online. But from articles I have read it has sold out rather quickly.

The title pretty much says it all. I got inspired by the recent article concerning the 5 best tablets for note-taking, which can be found here: Some great Windows tablets for note-taking | Windows Central
Being a student, my budget isn't very high. I would like pressure sensitivity, as it seems to allow for a more accurate writing experience. Therefore, the Asus VivoTab Note 8 seemed the way to go. I don't care much for the latest processor, it needs to run OneNote just fine and that's basically it.
However, since I'm from The Netherlands or Europe so to speak, availability of all the options isn't that high and prices are far from friendly. I could not find a decent offering in NL, but amazon.de got them around 200.
?But before ordering I would like to either test it or find somewhat more decent reviews (WCentral doesn't have one?).
?So in conclusion:
?-Do you know any cheap note-taking Windows tablets with active digitizers?
-Price?
?-Availability in Europe/NL?
?Cheers,
Tiemen

Answer:Best cheap tablet with active digitizer (+ stylus presumably)

Word of caution, I owned the Note 8 for some time and there was an issue with the calibration. Granted, I was an early adopter and the issue may have been fixed through an update already but the problem was that the digitizer simply would not register taps near the edges when in portrait mode. I use Windows Journal quite a bit to take handwritten notes on the go and this tablet could never write on the lines well. I got used to "aiming" higher on the display to get my text to fall on the lines but I'd hate to see a student like yourself with limited resources not get what you need. Best of luck.

Twice now, my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet Digitizer Pen - stylus has dropped out of the tablet only to be found later on my family room floor.   Given the expensive price tag on these pens (Office Depot has for $65), it would be nice if these pens could be locked into place so that they don't come up "missing" for whatever reason.   Has anyone else found a way to keep better track of their pen, short of not putting it in the holder on the tablet? Joe

Have you tried to tether it to your tablet?  There is a hole in the stylus clip and the tablet that you can use.  Beyond that, you can send it in to have the stylus catch replaced and see if that helps.

First, allow me to say I'm ignorant when it comes to this whole 'stylus' support issue. I've heard people lament about how this tablet has Wacom digitizer support but that one doesn't, and this one has some other type of stylus support, etc. I don't really understand what you geniuses are talking about because everyone complained about how the Surface Pro had some type of stylus support but the Surface RT did not, but then I went to a Microsoft store and an employee was showing off a stylus that seemed to work quite well on the Surface RT, so I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. So, if you have time, please explain to me the different types of styluses and the pros and cons behind them
Second, as I didn't know much about styluses I didn't really care much, but just last night I found myself wanting to draw a diagram in Office on my tablet and thinking, "huh, I bet this is where a stylus would come in handy." Now, I'm in the market for a new 2-in-1 device and so I would much appreciate recommendations on which devices support what kind of stylus and why that's good or bad.
Here is a list of devices that piqued my interest, but I'm more than happy to check out any others not on this list that you recommend:Surface 2Surface Pro 2Lenovo Yoga 2 ProSony Tap 11Dell XPS 11Dell XPS 12Dell Venue Pro 11

Answer:Which 2-in-1 tablet/ultrabooks have what kind of digitizer stylus support?

Come on now, all I read in all of the other threads debating the merits and demerits of this season's 2-in-1 devices like the Surface Pro 2 were all about stylus support, so surely you stylus aficionados have something to contribute here. Pretty please?

Good day. I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ThinkPad X220t  with warranty for one year. The laptop came with a factory seal. When I turn on a notebook,  the operating system(win 7 Prof 64bit) automatically install. At the end of installation in device manager  all devices have been identified and worked fine.  But in computer details in the "system" was written ?No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display?. Then I installed all the drivers on a laptop from Lenovo website again and again. That did not help. Then I reinstalled windows (win 7 Prof 32bit). That did not help. Previously, I had two X200t and when I installed windows 7, the digitizer immediately was detected, for the good work of  the touchscreen it was necessary to install drivers. But the situation with the X220 for me incomprehensible. Explain what I did wrong. The type of ThinkPad printed on the back label is 4294-CTR(in BIOS the type is 4294-CTO).

I replaced the hard drives in two X230 tablets today (HGST Z7K320-320, replacing with the same). Everything seems fine, but when the system reboots, it prompts for the hard drive lock password again (normally, it would just reboot without prompting). That wouldn't be a huge deal, but for whatever reason, it simply will not recognize the drive lock password. If I power it down and enter it, then everything is fine, the password is recognized and Windows boots normally. This is a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit btw.  I'm not sure why it's doing this, but the fact that two are having the same issue means something else needs to be done. Both replacement drives are new drives, and I set the drive lock password for both after installation. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

I broke my hinge a few weeks ago when I was packing up to leave class (which is indicative of the poor lenovo build/engineering quality that I've come to expect). The pen stopped working (even after I installed the wacom drivers I still get code 10 - the device cannot start). The buttons on the tablet don't work (orientation, esc, arrows, etc.). The fingerprint reader does not work. The laptop does not recognize the screen's orientation (open/closed/tablet). Most of the LED indicators do not function (System power and hard drive activity work, but NUM/CAPS lock, wifi, battery, plug, and sleep do not). I opened the laptop and replaced the hinge. I also replaced all the wiring (as it seemed like it might be damaged by the broken hinge) to the lcd assembly and the inverter card (it came with the wiring assembly). New hinge works great, but the features are all still gone. Is this a problem with my microprocessor board? (Item 14 - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67024) I'm guessing that it is... Is there a high probability that I need a new lcd assembly? I don't really understand the interplay between the inverter board, the fingerprint reader, the digitizer, and the microprocessor board. This is my first tablet PC and I am bummed to have this issue on the first day. I am no computer wizard so it could be user error all the way. Please tell me i am missing something easy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:x200 tablet w/ multitouch -- multi touch and digitizer pen not working

Just to cover our bases, have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for Windows 7? Here's the multitouch drivers:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73295 And here's all the others for Windows 7, just in case:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=427841&brandind=10&... Forgive me if you've already done that. Other than drivers, I'm not sure what you can do to troubleshoot it. I know it works in Win 7, since I've read several reviews about the Windows 7 experience on the x200. Seth

I have a X201 Tablet had always worked well.Yesterday suddenly the screen became completely black.I connected to the external LCD monitor and the computer works perfectly. But the internal monitor not. At least as a monitor.I can not see anything in the screen not even in backlight. But I can use the digitizer on screen... Namely if I touch the screen with the pen it makes me mouse. It seems strange because I was convinced it was a matter of cables. What can it be?Should be the illuminator? I think not, because in this case should be seen vaguely. Is that correct? Then I thought, or the display itself or cables that connect to the main board?I opened but everything seems to be ok. What is more likely is.I would like to understand it before you buy spare parts useless. How can I test which of the components is?I hope someone can help me,Thanks in advance

Hello, Maybe somebody could help me. I just got W700 2757-CTO with Vista x64 SP1 Business, however when I got it I think my Wacom Digitizer worked, but after some time it stopped and I can't get it to work. I tried System Restore, I even performed a Clean Vista Install and even my system is flying now and everything is working much better than before, I still can't get Wacom Digitizer to work  Driver I'm using: 02 Sep 2008 v5.0.8-8 I also tried driver I found online that is 5.1.1-1, but it was the same result. Did anybody face that kind of issue and found a solution? Does anybody have other Vista x64 drivers that I could try? Your help will be highly appreciated.

Answer:W700 - Wacom Digitizer not working: A Supported Tablet was not found on the system.

Guys, If somebody got the original driver that should be in C:\SWTOOLS\... somewhere in Digitizer folder, would you zip and send it to me so I can try the original driver that came with the machine. After clean install I lost all standard drivers. Your help will be highly appreciated.

I used Lenovo Think Vantage last night to install some software/driver updates.  One of them was the Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.6710.  After a reboot, I get the following message.  The Dolby application cannot start and I get no sound. How do I fix this? Thanks!

UPDATE:  I was able to go into Device Manager in Windows and roll back the Realtek Driver to 6.0.1.6617and all is well now. Apparently the Dolby app requires a particular Realtek driver version and you can't update one without updating the other, but Think Vantage Tools does not list any updates for the Dolby app for my machine.  Ehh...

I have a problem where the digitizer pen interittently stops working on the yoga S1 - win8.1 x64 with all updates applied.I can re-create the issue by folding the screen from normal mode to  tablet mode, then normal mode , then tablet mode. At this point, the pen susually stops working. I can get it to come back to life sometimes if i wait a minute, or if i go to power settings and apply / un apply something or by restart. It sounds like a driver issue to me - and possiby power management drivers - triggered by swithcing to tablet mode.I have tried max perfromance, min power savings etc to stop the screen driver being starved of power, have disabled sleep and hibernation. Done multiple driver re-installs, but no difference. Sometimes restarting the drivers relating to the pen and touch screen bring it back to life. But it should not die in the first place. Anyone else have this or do i have a hardware issue?

Hi! I have encountered a bug with the Media Card Reader Driver. I'm using Windows 8 x64 and with installed Media Card Reader Driver i have often a high CPU usage after waking up from stand-by mode. It's caused by the SYSTEM process. By investigating this, I found out that it was caused by the driver module for the media card reader. I uninstalled it and do not have any problems since.Am I the only one experiencing this and do I have any disadvantage from uninstalling this driver?

Answer:X230 - Problem with Media Card Reader Driver

Hi, TPuserX100e

There should only be a disadvantage if you frequently use the Media Card port. WIndows will likely install a generic driver, but some functionality may be lost.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I just received my second non-tablet X230 after my first one didn't work out. The new one has Windows 8 Pro loaded on it and I noticed that many of the programs were optimized for a touch screen by default, I also had the touch keyboard button on the taskbar. This is not a huge deal, but does anyone know if there is a way to remove "Pen and Touch" support or fix this error. I imagine that they loaded the x230 tablet image onto my x230 by mistake. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.   Thanks!

Question: X230 Tablet newbie

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Lenovo X230 Tablet. Specificly a 3434-CTR.

Now, as far as I know, a X230 tablet should have a multitouch screen and pressure sensitive built in Wacom tablet.

I just got this machine and it has a pre-installed copy of Windows 7 64bit Professional on it so I would gather that it has all necesery drivers already installed.

Problem is, the touch screen simply doesn't work - it doesn't respond to my fingers at all. It does work with the stylus pen, though. But it doesn't support pressure sensitivity. I tried using a portable drawing program that has never failed to work with any pressure sensitive pen tablet but it simply didn't work.

I'm guessing that there are some drivers I should install, but I don't know what to look for.

Is it possible that a 3434-CTR doesn't have a multitouch screen nor a pressure sensitive pen tablet?

Welcome to the community.

You may wish to visit the Parts Lookup page. Fill in your S/N and machine type (3434) and it should return a list of parts that went into your build. Either post the whole list back here, or, if it's obvious, post the P/Ns for the LCD panel and we can try to assist further.

I have just done a clean install of Windows 8 Enterprise on an X230, but the Tablet Input Panel does not show. The pen functions fine as a mouse, and this machine ran Windows 7 with no problems so I know there are no hardware issues. Is there any way to force the TIP to show or install the Tablet PC functionality if that is the problem?

Answer:X230 Tablet--no TIP under Windows 8

In the Windows METRO mode, the touch keyboard will automatically come out when the focus is in a text field. In the Windows desktop mode, one way to get the Touch keyboard is:Click the key combination: Windows + C to bring up the Charm.Click the Settings.Click Keyboard and select the Touch Keyboard. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not remember the selection so the next time you click on a text field, you have to go through the process again. I hope MS will change this. Even better is if the X230T is in a tablet mode (meaning the screen is lay flat and on top of keyboard, it will be smart enough to use Touch Keyboard by default. Edit: Another way to display the Touch Keyboard is to click the Touch Keyboard icon at the task bar.

Is there a way to specify different actions for the pen buttons?  For example, when using one specific program, I'd like the side button to function as if it were the shift key instead of the right-click but then have it operate as the standard right-click when in Windows or other programs. Is this a native functionality or is there a third-party program available that could give me such options?

Answer:X230 Tablet Pen Options

aardvarky, This is an excellent question! I definitely understand your wants! Officially, it needs to be a setting inside the software you want to use the digitizer pen in.

Examples:

With the new TBT2 there is a software called QuickSnip, insdie the QuickSnip settings you can change the digitizer pen button from right click to screen capture.

Inside OneNote you can change the settings of the Pen Buttons, here is a link to a X230T Digitizer Pen Input Youtube video that may have more clairification.

So, as Digitizer Pen Technology becomes more popular, I believe we will begin seeing more Applications and Software adding the technology to enhance their user customizations.

I have yet to talk with anyone at Lenovo or read anywhere online if these two accessories with be compatible with the Thinkpad Series 3 Ultrabase. Does anyone have any further information. I would hope I would not need to purchase these again.

Answer:x230 Tablet "Black Button"

I have not discovered a way revamp the Black Button without changing the registry, However, this may be a good alternative for you to create your own hard shortcuts in Windows 8:

Use the [Win-Logo]+[D] to see the Windows-8 desktop.
Right click on the Windows-8 desktop and select New, Shortcut.
Then in the called input box simply enter the appropriate shortcut text.
(found under the properties of the desired program)
Once a desktop shortcut is made, right click the shortcut, press properties and shortcut key replace none with the key or key combination you would like to use.

Then Pin the Desktop Shortcut to Start (Menu). To do this right click on the desktop shortcut and select "Pin to Start"

I also thought I would share the official Windows 8 shortcuts with you.

I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet.  The trackpoint and touchpad have stopped working.  This just happened today, after about six months of use.  When I boot the machine, I can move the mouse cursor for a few seconds, but then it stops.  I don't see any error messages.  The Ultranav panel in the mouse control panel applet shows the controls for both trackpoint and touchpad greyed out--they can't be clicked on, and the "enabled" boxes are not checked.  The device manager says that the device is working.  If I try to update the driver, I'm told it is up to date.  If I uninstall the driver and reboot, the trackball and touchpad work, but they seem to be using generic drivers--the ultranav panel does not show in the mouse applet.  I'm told to reboot to complete installation.  However, if I do that, I'm back to square one, with the ultranav not working.  I checked the boot configuration, and it shows both the trackpoint and touchpad as enabled.

If that doesn't work then I would assume it's a hardware problem.

(so that it fits in my hard shell case) Secondly, when using the X230t to read a pdf doc, can you increase the size of text by using two finders on display and spreading fingers apart?   And can you move the pdf page by moving one finger on display? (if only portion of page is displayed) Can you have a pdf doc opened on half of display, while taking notes with digy pen on other half of the display? Can the digypen be used with word and excel?thanks, and have a great day

1. the measurement you have is with the 3 cells battery fitted, it is not the measurement for the X230 with 6 cells battery fitted. The 6 cells battery will add another 1 inch to the measurement of 9 inch. 2. Yes, you can zoom by pinch. The movement of page with one finger depends on type of pdf software you use. 3. Yes you can write on the screen whilst having a pdf doc opened on half of the screen. 4. Yes, you can with a digitiser pen in both the Excel and Word. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037681356/http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037657335/

Hey guys, I'm new on this forum and I'm also new in using X230 tablet or any 2-in-1 laptop. This is my second ThinkPad but first convertible laptop. About problems. Shortly after I've got this ThinkPad I've installed Windows 10 because in my opinnion it works better and IS better than Win7. But after installation, I've encountered a few problems.First problem was no auto rotation - I could do that only by installing drivers for Tablet Buttons (it didn't bother me that much as next few problems).Second problem was not working Dolby Profile - anyone has suggestions why? I've read that eccp4.exe or something like that is not supported in Win10. The only thing with Dolby that did work was Dolby Digital Plus (and the equalizer there is horrible!).And third, and also MAIN problem was random screen touches. Did anyone encountered this kind of problem on yours X230 tablet? It happened only when I was fully in "tablet mode". Like for example I was doing some notes on classes and A LOT of times Action Center came up. With no touch from my side - I was only writing notes or not even touching the screen. Also normal touches appeared, not only Action Center sliding. Firstly I've got a little scared because it's used laptop bought on something like ebay. But my second thought was to go back to Win7 from recovery (which didn't work with F8, I've used SWM/WIM tutorial to fully recover system). And finally it seems that this problem doesn't occur on Win7. When I'm in full "table... Read more

i've been running windows 10 as a devoloper since before its's launch with very few issues.First make sure you download the drives from lenovo for winows 10 that till fix most of your issues.some things are just not compatable with the windows 10 OS look for replacements in the windwos store but your dolby does have a driver update. for some reason the thinkvantage software does not down load the drivers for you you'll have to do that on your own. Once you download all your drivers your X230T will run much more normaly. keep in mind however if you have the touch screen model it only supports 2 finger touch while winows 10 supports 10, it still works but many of the gestures don't you can chage your screen if your so inclined as far as i know there is no driver update. Good luck

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

At the end of the night I began installing an update for windows and let it run overnight. The next day I encountered severe problems with the touch screen. Pen input will not function at all in tablet mode and intermitently in laptop mode. I began with restoring windows to before I updated, then reinstalled windows and all drivers ect. Nothing has worked so far. I brought it to the IT department at my school and they tried using older drivers ect, nothing has worked so far. Hello all,I have 230X tablet and I upgraded it to windows 8.Since the upgrade, I feel that the power manager shows wrong time remaining, and every time I try to configure something with the power manager dashboard it crushes as "not responding".I read that the battery should last for 7+ hours, but after a full charge it shows only 3+ I also installed the latest driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't help. Does it sounds familiar? Does anyone has a solution? Thanks!

Answer:Power manager X230 Tablet

Hi, As far as I know, Lenovo has not supported Power Management for Windows 8 yet. What you said happends to me too. The time remaining is not accurate. Sometimes it drops from 25% to 10%, and the computer goes to sleeps after a few seconds... But after I reset my battery gauge, it solves the problem. By somehow, I discover that Power Management does work in Guest Account. You should perform Battery Gauge Reset in your Guest Account. Here is what I do: You should activate your Guest account (When you hit Windows key, type Accounts, Users accounts (in setting) -> Manage other Account -> Turn on GUEST account. You run battery reset there. (it takes long time since the computer will fully charge your battery and then completely discard and then chage again). Unfortunately, you cannot switch account during you perform battery reset and you cannot turn off computer during that time. It takes about ...12h to perform the task. But it works for me. The drawback of Guest account is you cannot connect to internet. I hope that LENOVO would support Power Management soon!. Too bad for a business laptop .

Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

My X230 Tablet laptop hangs after booting or reawakening from stand-by. It happens every single time. It lasts for about 2-3 minutes, during which the cursor can be moved but nothing responds. The hard-drive status indicator is constantly on. After 2 or 3 minutes the laptop becomes responsive again and the problem doesn't return until I reboot. Sometimes the problem occurs immediately after booting, sometimes a few minutes later. I've had the problem since I got the laptop.

I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. Applies to being unplugged and plugged in. It's not due to have power consumption, usually just shuts off from within minutes of logging into my account. Safe mode seems to delay this problem for a while. Best way to go about fixing this? Malwarebytes doesnt detect any viruses.

Hello,I go the Lenovo X230 Tablet and it came with Windows 7 pre-installed and everything was working great. Then after installing Windows 8 Pro on the Tablet, everything works great except that the pen handwriting software is not there anymore. I can use the pen to move around with no issues. I can open, close and right click with the pen, but cannot use it to write. I installed the needed drivers for the pen and installed ThinkVantage update software from Lenovo support site and ran the update to get the latest drivers and software but no luck. I can calibrate the pen with no issue.Any ideas where I can get the handwriting software for it.?ThanksModerator edit: Added OS to subject.

Answer:X230 Tablet Windows 8 Pen Handwriting software

Hi, hmandi01

In Windows 8, writing-to-text transcription is normally a "keyboard," if you will, that you have to select. When you are on the desktop of your machine, is there a keyboard icon on the taskbar? If this is not visible in laptop mode, then see if it is there in tablet mode. If that icon is visible, click on it. This should bring up the touch keyboard. On this keyboard, the bottom-right key should be another keyboard icon. Select this icon and then select the pen option (third option.) This should change the touch keyboard into a transcription keyboard.

Best of luck. Let me know how it goes.
Adam

What is the response time (in ms) of the screen on X230 Tablet?

Answer:What is the response time (in ms) of the screen on X230 Tablet?

It depends on overdrive level applied to the lcd panel. Typically it will be around 16 ms that can be improved to ~ 8ms by overdrive that also affects lifetime of the display. And no, there are no LCD panels with 2 ms response time, it is just marketing fluff (similar to PMPO audio power nonsense).

I got my X230 Tablet recently and want to run it under Windows 8. After upgrading yesterday, the Touch Screen refuses to work: the position is always in the bottom right corner, but clicking is recognized. The effect is that all windows are closed and opened alternately when touching the screen. Quite annoying, in particular as in Windows 8 the Touch screen would be actually very useful. I updates all drivers and bios, as far as possible, but the Touch Screen behavior remained. Somebody suggested that a clean installation of Windows 8 does lead to a well working Touch Screen. I tried it once, but after about two hours of computer work, Windows came back with the message that the installation failed, and thus I stay with my non working Touch Screen. What do I have to do to get my Touch Screen working again? The Wacom Pen is fine, so I can live with the X230 for the time being, but working with my fingers on the screen would be actually nice - and it beats those iBooks by lengths. Who has ideas?

Hello,First, yes, I realize Windows 8 is not generally available yet, however, a solution may already exist considering the imminent release.I have a X230 Tablet with Windows 8 Enterprise. The 2 USB 3 ports are working, but only at USB 2 speeds (same transfer rates when hooking up a USB 3 device to either of those ports as I get hooking up to the AlwaysOn port on the other side (more or less 25 MB/sec).I never had Windows 7 on this tablet, so I don't have a comparison. However, on a X201 Tablet with a PCIExpress USB 3 add-in card I get transfer speeds of at least 100 MB/sec, which is about as close as you can get I think.Windows 8's (Microsoft's) USB 3 xHCI driver is installed (version 6.2.9200.16420).Are there better drivers available? Am I missing a setting somewhere (in the BIOS perhaps)? Thanks for any assistance,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet USB 3 performs at USB 2 speeds (Windows 8)

I thought I already had checked the most obvious UEFI settings, but I guess not. In the USB category, there is a USB 3 option which was set to Auto. Based on the description, that looks like a good setting. However, I changed it to enabled, and now I have transferred rates of about 75 MB/sec. Still not as good as possible with some other controllers, but hopefully some better drivers are forthcoming.SA.

Hello Community,so I recently installed Windows 8 on my X230 Tablet.Everything works fine so far besides my display wont rotate automatically. The rotate-key right under the screen works fine and I have used the Lenovo System Update to get all necessary drivers but the display still does not rotate automatically. Is there a setting that I am not finding or any software/driver that I have to install?

Answer:X230 Tablet - display won't rotate automatically

I solved that problem by installing the Win 7 driver "Tablet Shortcut Menu". The UI for that program doesn't work but at least auto screen rotation works perfectly.  Hope it helped.

I purchased a new X230 tablet in August 2013.  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, Office 2010 Pro, and all updates, Microsoft and Lenovo have been applied.  I have, or at least I believe I have, shut off the option of the screen dimming or the machine sleeping in battery mode and while plugged in.  I've noticed this since I first purchased the unit but haven't used it in tablet mode enough to worry about searching out a solution until now. My problem is when put into tablet mode, typically running OneNote, but I've also seen it occur with just the default windows screen up, after a few minutes of inactivity, the screen goes black and I've not been able to wake it back up and am forced to perform a hard shut down. I sure hope there is an easy fix for this.

Oh, and I have the Gorilla glass outdoor screen model and all power management functions in the Bios are shut off. Please help, as right now tablet mode is essentially worthless as the black screen now is appearing right in the middle of writing with the stylus.  After a couple hard shut downs, the Synaptics drivers appear to be blown away and the NavPoint stops working and must have the drivers reinstalled.  Please help.....I'm missing my tablet functionality!!!  Please help.

Hello, Is it a good or bad idea to upgrade my video card to an NVIDIA GeForce? And why?  Thanks!

Answer:Upgrading Video Card in X230 Tablet?

Pardon my ignorance up front if I am wrong, I have an x220 and have not studied the x230 in any depth, but I suspect this isn't even possible, even on the x230.  On the x220, and I suspect it's much the same for the x230, the video card is a part of the intel chipset (it basically leeches cpu and ram power from the normal system cpu/ram and is not a dedicated removable/upgradable mobile graphics device with it's own cpu/ram like a mobile GeForce or mobile Radeon card). Perhaps there are new inventions on the market that can do the trick, I haven't been keeping up, but when I checked for the x220 their wasn't a viable open slot in the system for putting in such a dedicated mobile card.  The only option was an 'external' hack that allows one to use a dedicated desktop GPU card for when they come home with their system and dock it up to an external monitor.  Looked like a bit of work to set-up but once it was set up and running, it would allow for using a powerful GPU for games and graphic apps etc., while at home/office at least. Would be nice if the newest line of these tablet laptops had room for mobile GPU's, it's about the only thing missing for my interests, however that said, the integrated internal graphics work quite well from my experience, for mild gaming with the settings turned down and for graphic editing (most top 2D and 3D applications work surprisingly well, but far from as good as they would work with dedicated gpu, good ... When I start up my system, all appears to work OK.  Then, at some point both the pen and touch stop working.  When I turn the screen into laptop mode, I find that the mouse pointer and buttons work normally.  The only way to get the pen and touch to work again is to restart the computer. I ran the system update and all the drivers are up to date.  I also tried deleting all the input and screen drivers, and did a reinstall, but that didn't change anything. I'm wondering if it may be a BIOS issue, since I saw a posting that suggested that, but it was not for the x230. This is really driving me nuts...I'm out of ideas.

I have a X230 Tablet with the Outdoor display, meaning it requires the digitizer pen and does not work with fingers. The pen that came with the tablet is not pressure sensitive. If at all possible, I would love to get a pressure sensitive pen, but I can't find a list of compatibility anywhere. Apparently there aren't all that many of these tablets out there in the Wild. If anyone can help point me in the direction of a pressure sensitive pen for my tablet, I would be very grateful. Hi all, This laptop is giving me nightmares at this point. I can't afford a new one at this moment so i come here for input. The issue I am having right now besides the known audio failure is with the power management, spedificaly the throttling that happens while it is on AC. To me, it seems that the Speedstep roles are reversed. It runs on full turbo speed, over 3ghz on battery but it clocks down to 1198mhz according to CPU-Z when it is plugged in. No combination of settings either in the BIOS, Power manager or the Windows power options have any effect, everything is at 100%. The battery is installed at all time and I have tried both 65 watt and 90 watt AC adapters which are both new. BIOS is updated and I have tried both Win 7 and 10, fully updated with a fresh install with newest drivers and programs and numerous BIOS resets with CMOS battery removed. I am suspecting the power jack at this moment but Power manager reports both AC adapters correctly. I appreciate any response if anybody else has faced this issue or anything like it.

When I updated Windows 10 to the newest Version (Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit, Version 1607 Build 14393.82) the autorotate on my Thinkpad X230 Tablet is not working anymore. Using the rotate button the screen rotation changes but there is no screen change when putting the laptop into tablet mode or when rotating the laptop. With the "old" Windows 10 I had no problems with the autorotate function. I observe the following behaviour/errors:In the action center the button rotation lock is present, but doesn't change / unlock the rotation (it says it changes but the icon always stays on locked and there is no change). In the device manager the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 is listed under "unknown".Under "sensors" there were no entries. I added a Simple Device Orientation Sensor" but it didn't change anything. Other sensors all report the error that the driver cannot be started. A windows lcation provider is not availabe.Using the SensorDiagnosticTablet.diagcab it says that the windows location is turned off and cannot be turned on but in the action center/location the location service is "on".When I open the Lenovo Airbag Protection, the little laptop is moving according to the external inputs, so there is some detection of the motion. In the Tablet Shortcut Menu the button for enable autorotate is on and the laptop was calibrated. I already reinstalled all the drivers from the lenovo site (active protection system, dependencies, settings dependencies, graphics). Hi everyone, Had some questions on some things. First: The computer was advertised with a backlit keyboard but didn't come with it. How would I add it?Second: The memory usage hovers around 2.2 - 2.5 (8gb ram) - this is much higher than my X61T it replaces. Any way to lower or is this normal?Third: I saw in this review: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CCIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%...there is an accelerometer which determines orientation - how do I turn this on? Fourth: A lot of this bloatware that lenovo never works properly - for instance when trying to change the % to how long is left, it doesnt work. Also, when trying to show the different power plans, doesnt seem to work as well.  Other than that the computer seems pretty awesome. Can't wait to get it up and running.

Answer:Just got my new X230 Tablet, had some questions on how to work somethings.

1. The backlit keyboard is optional and not available on all models. Try pressing Fn+Spacebar to see if it turns on - once for Low, one more time for high and again to turn off.2. Is this for the same operating system? As far as i know X61T's shipped only with XP Tablet and Vista. Also, the X3100 graphics chip on the X61 uses up to 384MB of shared memory, whereas the new integrated graphics can take up a lot more. It might help to remove all the Lenovo bloatware you don't need.3. You need to make sure you have the Thinkvantage Active Protection installed. After that you can check in the control panel if it's working (Link to image), or download something like QCNLive that shows the accelerometer readings.4. Can't help you here, as i usually uninstall the stuff i don't need. Just stick to the battery info Windows provides.

Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

I recently bought a X230 tablet. Actually I did not realise that it can rotate screen in tablet mode automatically, at least in Windows 7 and Windows 8. I performed a clean install of Windows 10 and obviously it did not support auto rotate even with all the drivers that Lenovo System Updater helped me installed. One thread in this forum solved auto rotate in Windows 8. It is largely the same to that thread. Except that for Windows 10 you need to let the X230 recognise the built in accelerometer which is actually mainly intended for protecting hard drive from being damaged after free fall. Incidentally accelerometer found its way in Sony's hard drive walkman HD5 before, which also has hard drive accidentally falling protection and screen auto rotating function. All you need is 2 pieces of software: 1. Thinkpad Tablet Shortcut menu                                                                 2. Thinkpad Active Protection System. The 2nd file is the one that will allow the accelerometer come to life. Hello,  I'm having some trouble with turning on my laptop. The problem originally started when some keys on my keyboard stopped working. I cleaned the keys, restarted my laptop, tried a previous restore point and then did a hard reset after nothing worked to fix my laptop.  After hard resetting, I tried turning on my laptop and it did not turn on. So far, I've plugged in my laptop into the adaptor, plugged the adaptor directly into the wall outlet, and removed the battery and plugged in the laptop. The one thing I have noticed with my laptop is that when I plug in the adaptor, the battery and sleep lights turn on for a moment, then the sleep light turns off, and the battery light will stay on momentarily but then it will blink off after a few seconds. What else should I do? Thank you
