X230 Tablet - Keyboard backlight not working

Question: X230 Tablet - Keyboard backlight not working

I have a new X230 Tablet (model 3437 A99) running Windows 7 Enterprise. Whenever I press Fn+Spacebar I get an icon with a line through it. I verified that this is enabled in the BIOS. Which particular driver is needed to enable this? Is there a setting in Windows 7 that I'm missing?

Preferred Solution: X230 Tablet - Keyboard backlight not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: X230 Tablet - Keyboard backlight not working

Not all X230t-s keyboards are made with lights. Search the forum, it was sufficently discussed before.

One year ago, my keyboard was replaced. 6 days ago my warranty expired and now my backlight of the keyboard is not working anymore. Yesterday I was trying the steps from the first comment:https://de.ifixit.com/Answers/View/282684/No+backlight+in+keyboard+after+upgrading+to+windows+10 and it worked for some time untill now.  Does anybody know what I could do?

I haven't been able to find anyone else reporting this issue, but it seems the X230 Tablet has "feature" whereby the screen dims the backlight slowly when a dark image is displayed, and brightens it slowly when a lighter image is displayed. Does anyone else experience this? I find it very annoying, and not even helpful when the transition is finished. I would prefer to have the full brightness, as the dark pixels on the screen appear plenty dark to me. If I'm concerned for battery life, I can dim the backlight myself. But to change from a dark window to a light window and find that the contrast is diminished for 10 seconds as it slowly ramps up is getting on my nerves. I suspect that it's not even the backlight, but the very brightness of the pixel, because when I switch to an image with a mid-value, subtle gradient (e.g. medium gray to dark gray), I can see the bands of color moving across the gradient as the fading happens. If it were only the backlight, the bands should remain static, and thus not so noticeable. I'll try to disable it, and if I find a solution, I'll post it here. Of course, if anyone else has already done this, please let me know!

Answer:X230 Tablet: backlight fading for 10sec. on dark/light images

Hey monking, I was also having the same problem, it was anoying the hell out of me, espically when going form a dark screen to text on a white background, the text would be almost unreadable for about 10 seconds. I just found the solution on the following page:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T410-T420-Screen-flickering-randomly-screen...(I know it's not the exact same problem, but the solution is the same) I hope that helps...

I bought a Thinkpad X230 a couple of days ago and realised that there is no keyboard backlight. A quick call to the sales team and customer service confirmed that all X230 sold in Singapore only has the Thinklight but no Keyboard backlight. How can this be given that all the websites and reviews tout the X230 as having a keyboard backlight?

I never do these, but after extensive searching and trouble shooting without results, here I am.I have a Lenovo x230 laptop (2306cto model number) . The keyboard on it was having buttons stop working after extensive use, so I purchased a replacement keyboard for it (model CS12-84US). The keyboard is identical the previous one, including backlight functionality, and trackpoint. I swapped the keyboards, and all of the buttons started working again perfectly, except for the trackpoint mouse (little red button thing), the trackpoint mouse buttons, and also the backlight function for the keyboard (the Fn + Space only turns on the overhead light seated next to the webcam). I tried reseating it a few times, I checked all of the ribbons to ensure that there are no rips/tears, etc. I checked drivers again and again. The trackpoint section under the UltraNav Mouse settings is greyed out and inaccessible. I can't figure out what's wrong. This is a brand new keyboard. Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

Answer:x230 Tablet keyboard issue

I would just replace the keyboard.  This sort of problem is almost always a short in the keyboard.  Used ones are commonly available.  The T430, X230, T530, W530 all use the same keyboard

yes your machine supports a backlit keyboard. It is probably easier and cheaper to buy it on places like ebay. Also remove your serial number from view.

I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet.  The trackpoint and touchpad have stopped working.  This just happened today, after about six months of use.  When I boot the machine, I can move the mouse cursor for a few seconds, but then it stops.  I don't see any error messages.  The Ultranav panel in the mouse control panel applet shows the controls for both trackpoint and touchpad greyed out--they can't be clicked on, and the "enabled" boxes are not checked.  The device manager says that the device is working.  If I try to update the driver, I'm told it is up to date.  If I uninstall the driver and reboot, the trackball and touchpad work, but they seem to be using generic drivers--the ultranav panel does not show in the mouse applet.  I'm told to reboot to complete installation.  However, if I do that, I'm back to square one, with the ultranav not working.  I checked the boot configuration, and it shows both the trackpoint and touchpad as enabled.

If that doesn't work then I would assume it's a hardware problem.

I recently purchased a X230 type 3434-CTO Tablet (the one with gorilla glass). The first night I had it it worked great and I was incredibly happy with my purchase. At the end of the night I began installing an update for windows and let it run overnight. The next day I encountered severe problems with the touch screen. Pen input will not function at all in tablet mode and intermitently in laptop mode. I began with restoring windows to before I updated, then reinstalled windows and all drivers ect. Nothing has worked so far. I brought it to the IT department at my school and they tried using older drivers ect, nothing has worked so far. I am increidbly frustrated, has anyone else encountered this  or a similar issue? Thank you for your time and thought

welcome to the community. sorry you're having troubles.have you tried to recover the system to factory-delivered state via the on-disk recovery process? or did you make the factory recovery dvd set, which you could use with an external dvd drive? please post back more specifics about what condition your machine is in. ie, data and docs backed up, ready to have a new or factory install done, etc.

Hi,I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available. It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.Any ideas other than hardware? Thanks,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

Hello, I recently upgraded to windows 8 and I have everything working so far except for the webcam. I've installed the drivers so that when I go into device manager under Imaging devices it lists Integrated Camera and Camera Plus and device manager says both of these are updated and working the fine. However, when I use the Camera app which I get to from Windows 8 metro all I see is a cartoon of a camera crossed out. The yellow webcam light does turn on, but it's not working. The same thing happens when I try to do a video recording in Microsoft OneNote 2007, which I used to be able to do.  I've tried to uninstall the webcam drivers and reinstall it, but it still isn't working. I've tried doing hardware scans and update scans in the Lenovo Solutions Center but it says everything is fine. Any suggestions would be really helpful. If I can't get everything to work in Windows 8 I'm switching back to Windows 7, which I made a backup disc of. Thanks,-Noora

Answer:X230 tablet Windows 8 upgrade, webcam not working

I think I finally fixed it actually, sorry about that. I just kept installing drivers from the Lenovo website and it's working now. The camera program that you access through Metro says the camera is only 0.9 pixels though, and I thought the camera was more than that.  Is there a way to tell if I've installed all the necessary drivers? I have done multiple software scans with Lenovo Solution Center but even when the camera wasn't working it said I had no updates, so that's why I kept installing drivers from the website.  Also, does anyone know the driver to make the wacom pen right click button work? I really miss that One thing I think is better with Windows 8 actually is the screen orientation change button. It's way faster than in Windows 7! I also like that it doesn't do it automatically, because I don't always want it automatic.

However, when I press the dedicated button (the one with the image of 3 keys between Print Screen and Delete), nothing happens. Hello. I've had my laptop for under a week and the backlight for my keyboard has stopped working. I've not been able to find anything to help me with this... is there a simple switch to turn it on and off, or am I missing something?

Answer:The backlight on my keyboard has stopped working

I don?t know which notebook model do you have and which operating system do you use but, generally speaking you can use FN+Z key combination to enable or disable keyboard backlight.

Check it out.

If you use Win7 open Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware settings and there you will find options for keyboard backlight.

If you use Win8 open Toshiba Desktop assist > Function key and there you will find option for it.

Check it out.
Post which notebook model and OS do you use.

Hi everyone, I have a really odd problem with my Lenovo Z500 laptop. I am sure my model has backlit keyboard, it worked for quite a long time. Then it suddenly stopped working after restarting my laptop. I think I have downloaded some bad drivers. Can anyone post me a link for the right ones for the keyboard? I cannot find it anywhere.

Answer:My keyboard backlight stopped working

hi baborakj,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

As far as I know, Fn + Space is the combination to turn on/off the keyboard backlight.
And the keyboard backlight light up right away during POST as a check.

This is from a different model but it works the same with te Keyboard backlight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ck1lAu5sPc

If the Backlight does not flash or something during POST it may be having Hardware issue.
You may contact Lenovo Technical Support or you can follow this guide on reseating the Keyboard.

Best Regards
Solid Cruver

Hello, my girlfriend got a L430 (2464-A26) which got a keyboard with the backlight symbol on the space key. But pressing it does not light the keyboard - neither in BIOS/Linux or Windows 7. I found this Lenovo blog entry: Q: With all the excitement over the design changes, do you think anyone noticed that you added the backlight option? I?m convinced no one knows it?s there. A: I hope so, it's a great feature. We designed Fn+Space as the trigger to enable and adjust the keyboard backlight.  If there is a light icon on your space bar, you have the backlight option.  I use mine all the time. So is the keyboard backlight broken? Thanks for your help!

Answer:[L430] Keyboard backlight not working

The L series has no keyboard backlight. The FN + space bar does nothing, because there is no backlight. You also cant install a keyboard with backlight, the backlight won´t work (die Hardware kann das Backlight nicht anprechen, da man dies auf BIOS Level nicht eingebaut hat.).

Alright so first things first, this is probably my fault. A couple days ago the last working usb port I had stopped working, so I could no longer use my mouse. I did some research and decided to take apart my computer to get a look at the usb. After I had finished when I turned my computer on the backlight of my keyboard would no longer work. I followed the steps in the hardware manual when taking apart my computer and I reconnected everything, I think, when putting it back together. The only thing that has changed are a few of the plastic snaps that hold it toghether broke when removing the keyboard cover. Please don't tell me to try Fn+space... I've tried. I think I've determined that it is the smaller cabble going from the keyboard to the system that affects the lights and I spent half an hour making sure it was secure. Please help me, actual need the backlight because most of the work I do, I do in the dark. Thank you

FN Z brings up the backlight control UI, which displays "Backlight On". I toggle through the options, turn it off. Turn it back on. Still no light.

Looking up Keyboard in the control panel shows that everything is working properly.

Any ideas? Frustrated

PS: the power button is lit, the "Satellite" logo is lit, and the light for the trackpad turns on when it's enabled.

Answer:Re: Satellite A660 - Keyboard backlight not working

Hey,

Did you install recently a driver or software update? If yes I would recommend removing this update and test it again.
Probably the system restore to an earlier point could help you to get rid of this update.

Furthermore I would try reinstalling Value Added Package. This tool can be downloaded on official Toshiba website. It controls such special functions like illumination on/off, etc.

Check this!!!

Wondering if anyone has had this problem and fixed it or if there is some software that i can use to force the light to turn on? The only lights that work on the keyboard are the Caps lock and the Num Lock. Pls help!

My Dell Inspiron 15 5558's keyboard backlight will not stay on. I just installed the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack 2.2.1, and no help.

When I go into the Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, "Dell Keyboard Backlight Settings", the third tab on it is for "Backlight," but it is greyed out and I cannot use it.

I have just spent way too much time today trying to chase this down on Google and in Dell forums, but I remain stuck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you,

Answer:backlight on keyboard for z500 touch not working

hi Gadi621,

Welcome to the Forums.

I'm not seing any changelog related to any keyboard backlight changee from the BIOS readme.txt file so I think it's unlikely that updating the BIOS is the cause of the problem.

Just to check, when you power up the machine, do you see the keyboard backlight turning on?

Ideally, for the backlit to work, the following must be met:
1. A backlit-type keyboard must be installe (you can tell if the keyboard has backlights when there's a "crown" like icon on the space bar.
    - Link to picture
2. The keyboard ribbon & power cable (for backlit) must be properly connected to the motherboard
    - Link to picture
    - Link to picture

If one of the following is not met, the backlight feature won't work.

Hi Everyone, A few months ago I updated the HDD in my ThinkPad Z500T to an SSD. The laptop was running Windows 10, so I reinstalled that after changing the hard drive. Since changing the hard drive, the backlight on my keyboard no longer seems to work. I've ensured that the ribbon cable which connects the keyboard is correctly located (which it is) by removing the keyboard to check, but also by testing out other fn-<key> combinations. All other combinations work, other that fn+space for the backlight. I've tried resinstalling the BIOS (etc) but nothing seems to work... I've also looked for keyboard drivers but it seems that it only uses the standard keyboard driver available on Windows. I attempted to contact Lenovo Support however they didn't reply to my emails. Does anyone have any ideas why it doesn't work any more? Thanks in advance!

My keyboard backlight has stopped working. The hard-drive in my 3-year-old XPS 15 died, so I had it replaced with a new SS drive. My tech reinstalled Windows 10 and I reinstalled all of my software (AutoCad, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.). Fortunately, I had all my files backed-up to an external hard-drive and restored them to the new SS hard-drive.
I installed Dell Command Update. I open Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, and then Dell Keyboard Backlight Settings.......I can change the timing of the backlight, but cannot change the backlight brightness slider. It is currently set at the lowest setting, but it will not move to a higher setting. So, I do not have any keyboard backlight at all. I suspect that there is a problem elsewhere.....something is not switched on or there is a missing update? I've spent hours trying to chase this down without success. Any ideas?
Thank You!

Answer:Keyboard Backlight stopped working XPS 15 L502X

Does the keyboard flash ON when the system is booted (if it does not, you have a hardware problem).
If it DOES flash on at boot time, was the system running windows 10 prior to the drive failure - and if so, did the backlight work?  If it was running an earlier version of Windows, note that Dell isn't supporting Windows 10 on this model - there may not be a driver for the backlight under Windows 10.
If it was running correctly under Windows 10 with the backlight on, have you installed the chipset and other drivers?

Hello. I recently bought an Aspire R13 R7-372T. I noticed that the keyboard backlight was never on. I tried the keyboard shortcut to inrease the backlight brightness but to no avail. I tried that on the pre-installed Windows 10 and also on Ubuntu 16.10. How do I debug the problem? ThanksLawand

Answer:Keyboard backlight not working: Aspire R13 R7-372T

The R7-371T model that ships in North America has a backlit keyboard. FN+F9 decreases the keyboard backlight brightness, and FN+F10 increases the keyboard backlight brightness. While we can't help with Ubuntu, the best way to troubleshoot this is to restore the system back to factory configurations and test those function keys before installing any other software or operating system. If it works then this function is working as it should. If the keyboard light does not work after a restore then we would recommend the system be serviced for the keyboard light. Should this be the case please contact the Acer support for your region from this link:

Does your unit have that feature included? Check while rebooting if all keys light up. If yes, then you have the backlighted keyboard. If not, then the feature is not included in your unit.

Hi all, I've had my Lenovo ideaPad Z500 Touch for 2 years already, and this is the first time my KEYBOARD BACKLIGHT has stopped working. I am using Windows 8.1 (always updated) on a 64-bit OS. There has been no trauma to the device prior to the disfunction, however I did recently install CCleaner to my laptop to speed up the starting time (which may or may not have anything to do with the disfunction, but I am bookmarking it as a possibility since before installation my keyboard backlight was working just fine). Around the same time I also recently updatedWindows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - March 2015 (KB890830) upon recommendation from Windows Update, prior to which there was also nothing wrong with my keyboard backlight. (1) I have tried the Fn+SpaceBar option (as I usually do to toggle on/off when I'm doing work), but the backlight still does not turn on.(2) I have tried reinstalling Lenovo Energy Management (as has been recommended in previous posts), but it still does not work even after restarting. Since the last post on this was some time ago (last one on 2nd January 2014 with solutions that do not work for me), I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me on this issue. Thank you so much,

Hello @ all,

after installing Win7 on my new bought Satellite A500-15h the keyboard backlight is not working anymore.
I dont know if it was working before with vista... but hopefully.

In Bios the illumination is enabled. Furthermore the Features (on F1-F9) controlled with Fn are not working and the beep which was normally heard by using the function-buttons for turn down/on the sound can not be heard anymore, even if the beep is enabled in BIOS.

Hopefully someone may help
Thanks in advance
giraffe

I already installed the value added package and the BIOS update.
In Linux the keyboard is also not illuminated.

Answer:Satellite A500-15h - keyboard backlight is not working anymore

Hi

First of all you have to get the FN buttons working again.
In order to do this you have to install the VAP and the Toshiba Flash Card support utility from the Toshiba European driver page.

Regarding the keyboard backlight;

Not all notebooks support the keyboard backlight.
You should check the Z button.
If the Z button would contain an tiny keyboard sign then the notebook has been equipped with keyboard backlight and it should be possible to enable this using FN + Z key combination.

But the CAPS LOCK Light and back light works
Apart from that nothing else

Tried restarting also no feedback from the lights
Also could it have been a recent update that might've caused this?
Is there a driver for this?

Answer:Keyboard Backlight Stopped working Dell Inspiron 7000 13

Does the keyboard backlight come on when the system is powered up?  If it does, you may have a software issue.
If it does not, you have a hardware problem.
First thing to check is that the backlight cable is firmly connected to the system board (this will require removing the keyboard to check).

hi. sorry for the lack of capitalization because one of the problems i am having is that my shift keys wont work. i replaced my motherboard myself with one provided by lenovo and everything is working except for the backlight and the shift key. since every other key is working i feel it might be a software issue but cannot say for certain. any help will be awesome. thank you.

Answer:y510p. replaced motherboard, now shift keys and keyboard backlight not working.

A few things to try.......

Try booting into Windows Safe mode to see if the problem happens there.

Try using a USB keyboard to see if the Shift keys operate on the USB board.

Try uninstalling the keyboard driver, reboot the computer and install a fresh copy of the keyboard driver.  The link below is for the available drivers from Lenovo for your model. Just select your operating system in the top box for the correct driver listing.......

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad-y510p...

If none of the above work..... disassemble the laptop and reseat the ribbon cable for the keyboard.  I would also use a soft cloth and some alcohol to lightly wipe the contacts of the ribbon cable.  Possibly skin oil or dirt got on the contacts.

Hello, I'm looking for a laptop for university and the X230 with IPS caught my eye. Unfortunatly I read some bad things about the LED-PWM-frequency in the X-Series in the past. Some say the X200 had down to 90Hz and that is brutaly low. Since I know from my expirience with my "old" new desktop monitor that I'm kind of sensitive for flickering, I am a bit worried, that they haven't fixed this yet. Does anyone of you know, if they upped the freq. in the newer X-Series?

Answer:X230 - LED backlight frequency

Welcome to the community.

My IPS-equipped X220 only has 50 and 60Hz selections for the panel. Nothing higher. I'm pretty sure the same holds true for the X230.

I've received my first thinkpad yesterday, and my impressions on it are great. I absolutely love the build quaity and keyboard (noticed that the left side of the keyboard has a deeper harsher clunk, but i've noticed that on all laptops even macbooks).  I saw this backlight bleed from the boot and black screens, is this normal? What I mean is, if I get a replacement, will it be similar or perhaps even worse? The pics below have it on full brightness and I usually have it on ~8-11 brightness during use. Not sure if I should get it replaced/repaired, I could end up with potentially more problems.  I tried to capture it as best as possible and not look exaggerated on the camera.

Answer:Is this backlight bleed normal for a new X230?

this looks a bit excessive on the right bottom section. Call warranty and ask for service.

Hi, this might seem like a silly question, but I was unable to find a clear answer through Google.1) I am planning to put an mSATA onto my X230, however I realized that the mSATA slot only supports SATA II. Is it still possible to purchase SATA III and run it in the X230's mSATA slot? 2) If I ordered an X230 without the backlit keyboard, does this still include the Thinklight? I personally don't find the backlighting necessary for my needs, and would simply just use the Thinklight instead. Thanks!

Answer:X230 mSATA & Backlight inquiry

1) You can run SATAIII in SATAII speed. Don't worry it will work. 2) Yes all X230 have thinklight, whether or not you go the backlit keyboard or not.

I have sent mine in for repair. It was leaking light from atleast 6 places on the bottom. It also recently had a white dot (not pixels, more like bleed) appear on the right side of the screen.  Any chance they will actually do something ? I am hearing that they just ship them back without even fixing anything.  Also, what is with all the "this is normal, its just you".... The ipad 2 had the same backlight bleed issue and it was LG's fault.  Anyone who had the issue was able to get as many exchanges from an apple store until the problem was fixed.  Now I pad $1000 for this laptop, MUCH MORE than an iPad 2. Not to mention it has a LOWER RESOLUTION. This light bleeding issue is unacceptable. Excuses are also unacceptable.  So someone please answer. Has Lenovo fixed this light bleed issue ???

Answer:X220 still suffers "Backlight Bleed" ?? How about the X230 ??

There's a 48-page discussion on the backlight bleeding of the x220 on the Lenovo forums (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Faint-Ghosting-on-X220-IPS-screen/td-p/435201). There are also many smaller threads regarding problems with the x220 IPS screen and to a lesser extent the x230 screen. I recently purchased an x230 and experienced bleeding. Due to my onsite warranty IBM support came and replaced the screen- but the new one still had bleeding. Another engineer came out, brought a new back-panel (because the flex of the panel seemed to be causing it) and said "this isn't broken- I have seen lots of x220s and x230s with this problem- its a design default". Could I challenge Lenovo to provide me with an x230 IPS screen which does not bleed? I cannot believe Lenovo released/designed a laptop with such a glaring (no pun intended) fault. Has anyone here got an x230 (or x220) IPS screen where there is absolutely no backlight bleeding on a dark background?

Answer:All x220 and x230 IPS screens have backlight bleeding issue?

All X230 and X220 LG IPS will have some degree of bios bleed, it is just matter of severity.

The touch pad is also having the same issue.

Answer:Keyboard and touch pad not working after using as tablet mode

Sounds like a driver issue or accessibility that the touch on-screen keyboard got screwed up. Can you get to a restore point by using a USB keyboard and mouse with it? Toshiba has their own drivers for the Synaptics Touchpad, same as their Function keys. I always went with non-UEFI on the Toshiba laptop my wife has. Always had issues with Toshiba's drivers and UEFI mode.

The only other thing is maybe roll back to a System Restore point before this occurred. Also do you make a regular system backup for the unit?

Got an inspiron 13 7000 yesterday and trying to use for first time.  When switching to tablet mode, the virtural/on-screen keyboard cannot be selected for use.  It is available in laptop mode (when I don't need it because of the large keyboard in front of me), but not table.

So, I called tech support and was told it was outside of regular tech and they'd transfer me to software tech.  They said there is normally a fee for this support, but since the computer is brand new, there would be not charge.  Software tech refused to help me unless I paid and they transferred me back to hardware tech who put me on hold, then hung up on me.

Wow, nice support on a brand new product!  They want me to pay to get their defective product to work?  I guess it would be cheaper for them to pay for a return shipping label, give me a full refund and sell this as a refurb at half of what they sold it to me for then for them to actually spend a few minutes on the phone trying to help.

Before I return this and buy another brand, does anyone know how to get the on-screen keyboard to work on tablet mode?

I have a brand new Lenovo Z500 laptop with Windows 7. After installing the drivers for my Genius MousePen 8x6 tablet the keyboard becomes unresponsive. I got the latest driver from the Genius website and the tablet works fine but the keyboard is as if dead. I tried re-installing the keyboard drivers and the chipset drivers, it didn't help. When I uninstall the tablet driver the keyboard starts functioning again.  Please help!

Answer:Tablet driver makes my keyboard stop working

Hi, thanks for all the help...Anyways, I found the problem. It's the Synaptics Touchpad driver that's causing the keyboard to malfunction. I tried installing a driver for a different tablet brand and same thing happened. So, it's the Lenovo driver, it should get fixed.

So, I boot up my laptop and notice I can't type my password in, so I log in with my fingerprint, I open up notepad and notice that my 4 5 R T F G V B, Left Shift, and Left Ctrl keys all don't work. I also noticed that they're all keys that are staggered vertically (with the exception of the modifiers).I went to a keyboard tester site to get a visual representation of the keys that don't work.Notice the chunk in the middle of unhighlighted keys. I've taken my laptop apart before, so I pulled out the keyboard and inspected the keyboard connector and socket and found no tarnishing, bent pins, etc on them.Is there a way to diagnose if this is a keyboard or a motherboard issue?

HiI bought this for my daughter this Christmas and after registering using the keyboard it suddenly stopped working and I could only use the touch screen keyboard. Then for no reason at all the pc display went in to tablet mode and won't come out of it.I have tried a total reset and everything I described above happens again. I have downloaded all the drivers etc again and rebooted and the outcome is still the same. Have wondered if throwing it against a wall would help, but realised that would only help me and not the laptop.Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you resolve it?Thanks

Answer:Pavilion x360 keyboard not working and stuck in tablet mode

Hi @kippa22?, Welcome to the HP Forums!  It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide:Learn How to Post and More. I understand that you purchased the Pavilion x360 as a Christmas present for your daughter.  After setting it up, and registering on the HP website the keyboard stopped responding. You could only use the on screen keyboard.  Suddenly the display went into tablet mode and  you could not change the mode back.  You have tried a total reset and installed any driver updates, but the issue remains. Have you ran the HP Support Assistant?  Have you ran the Windows troubleshooter? Would you check this setting. Click the Windows button (lower left corner)Clcik on  settingsClick on  system to  open it.In the left pane of the screen, scroll down to the bottom until you see "Tablet Mode"Verify that  it is set to off. Please let me know the outcome. Best of Luck and Happy Holidays!

hi, i was recently cleaning my tablet's keyboard and screen with a dry cleaning cloth. but after i turned my tablet back on, none of the buttons located on the base were responding. my speaker volume shortcut buttons and keyboard wont respond.

my mouse and left, right click buttons work fine though, and i notice the lights on my caps, num lock flick on on boot up. my volume buttons also have their lights on.

i heard a loud beep noise on my tablet during my cleaning too.

did i accidentally disable the bottom half of my tablet?

my screen buttons and external mouse work fine too.

im typing all this using my on-screen keyboard.

please, can someone help me.

thanks
