wifi connection on tablet mode - Thinkpad X230 Tablet

Question: wifi connection on tablet mode - Thinkpad X230 Tablet

Hi. Recently, I have noticed that wifi connection in Tablet mode in my Thinkpad X230 Tablet is significantly slower than in laptop mode. Sometimes, it completely disconnected to the network. I tried to test with Speedtest. net and download a file via Internet Download manager. Both show that laptop mode has significantly higher and better speed connection than does laptop mode. Does anyone have the same experience as me? Is the antena has any problem??? Thank you. I

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I've got a weird problem...Whenever I have my Yoga flipped into tablet mode, my wifi adapter doesn't seem to work. It either can't find a connection or whatever it can connect to is a "limited connection" which of course means "no internet"It works in presentation and tent mode, and it even works if I'm holding it upside down in laptop mode. It's more of an inconvienience than anything else since I don't normally use the internet in tablet mode but it would be nice to find a fix for it.

Hello everyone, Yesterday I installed Windows 10 on my Thinkpad Yoga (first generation) with clean install. Everything works fine except wifi in tablet mode. Every time I twist my yoga (i.e. go into tablet mode physically) wifi stops working. When I twist against to laptop again, wifi comes back. Does everyone knows this issue? Thanks a lot for your time. Greeting from Germany

HiI purchased the Lenovo 20cd000muk thinkpad yoga (or s1 in some countries).I noted that in tablet mode, the wi-fi connection get lost, the wi-fi disabled, and it is not possibleto scan the network or connect the device. So I have no wi-fi in tablet mode, but in laptop mode everything works fine, with no issues. From Lenovo datasheets I had noticed that the wi-fi antennas are in the rear of the display, and I've read in other threads about x220 and other products that the problem (in tablet mode) have no solution,i.e. it's like a manufacture problem. Now, I ask all this model owners, and the administrators or technicians: can you confirm that this aproblem related with this specific model, or your thinkpads yoga 20cd can connect normallyin tablet mode?Is there a possible solution? Thank you for your help.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga (20cd or s1) tablet mode wifi problem

Nobody?Neither TP Yoga owners? For tablet mode i mean the physical situation, when I rotate the screen over the back of keyboard, ad not the software option which can be activate from the right lower corner of the desktop.I only want to know if it's a problem of my own notebook or it's a common problem that afflicts ever Tp yoga or notebooks with the same 360 degree design, and if there is a solution. Thanks

I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. The removal of trackpoint 3 click buttons, which were combined with the trackpad. People complain a lot when they accidentally click the trackpad while typing. I am a trackpoint person, not trackpad person. So the removal was **** retarded, anti consumer, anti Thinkpad legacy!Pls, see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb7p3VkQCOo. I did not made this video but 100% agree with this guy.  In addition, it seems to me that newer generations Intel core processor (4th and upcoming 5th) was weeker than ivy bridge processor because Ivy Bridge processors are full power 35W, now, everything is low powered to save the battery life. I have a few questions: 1.Is there anyway, or any company that can make a better thinkpad x230 tablet screen (say upgrading the screen from 1366x768 to higher resolution, improving wacom pen digitizer on the edges 2. Is there any laptop on the market that has express card or thunderbolt, touch screen, digitize... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad X230 Tablet - Display Problem

If it is under warranty, call for service, rather than dealing with it. The first step is to unplug it and remove the battery. Press the power button 5 times, holding it for 10 seconds on the last push. Put it back together; plug it in, and try again.

Hi everyone:I am considering to upgrade my wireless adapter for my laptop. Currently I am using Thinkpad X230 Tablet with Intel Centrino Wireless N 2200. My laptop has bluetooth. I have questions:1. Does the bluetooth come with my wireless adapter? I mean that If I upgrade my wireless card, do I have to buy a card with wifi and bluetooth? 2. I am considering to upgrade to Intel 62205 AN. This is the linkhttp://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=INT-62205&show=p Is that worth to upgrade? (functionality, price, ...)  Is the product compatible with my current Thinkpad X230T?  3. Can I install 2 cards and run silmultanerously . It sounds greedy but I know a software, named "connectify"; it allows laptop to connect many networks silmutanerously, for example: 4G, Lan, wifi.  4. I see some people mention about Intel Ultimate 6300. What additional functionalities do I get compared to 62205  or Intel 2200? Thank you.

Answer:Upgrade Wireless Adapter for Thinkpad X230 Tablet

1. Bluetooth and wireless cards are separate on the ThinkPad X220, X220t, X230, and X230s. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8276508687/in/set-721576320273504682. You would need an Intel 6205 card with Lenovo FRU number on it, generic one won't work. 2200 only operates in the 2.4 ghz bandwidth, while the 6205 can operate in both 2.4 and 5 ghz bandwidth. So the question is does your router have 5 ghz bandwidth and support MIMO?3. No you can't. The WWAN/mSATA slot would give an error message saying an unauthorized card is installed (1801 error). 4. 6300 card has 3 x 3 setup and operates in 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz range. Max speed of 450 mpbs6205 has 2 x 2 setup, 2.4/5 ghz range, and max speed of 300 mbps.2200 has 2 x 2 setup, but operates in the 2.4 ghz range and max speed of 300 mbps.

No problem. The system just ran diskchk - a windows utility to check the integrity of your drive. That normally happens after an unusual shutdown.

Hello,  I'm having some trouble with turning on my laptop. The problem originally started when some keys on my keyboard stopped working. I cleaned the keys, restarted my laptop, tried a previous restore point and then did a hard reset after nothing worked to fix my laptop.  After hard resetting, I tried turning on my laptop and it did not turn on. So far, I've plugged in my laptop into the adaptor, plugged the adaptor directly into the wall outlet, and removed the battery and plugged in the laptop. The one thing I have noticed with my laptop is that when I plug in the adaptor, the battery and sleep lights turn on for a moment, then the sleep light turns off, and the battery light will stay on momentarily but then it will blink off after a few seconds. What else should I do? Thank you

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

welcome to the community!

please check to make sure your trackpad is not disabled in your bios.

for reference, on my t60p, i have the trackpad disabled in bios because i never use it ( trackpoint evangelist here ). regardless, when i'm at the windows 7 login screen, my trackpad is active. as soon as i'm logged in and i've got a windows desktop, the trackpad is inactive. i'm not sure why i have that small window where it works, but there it is, fwiw.

I have been waiting for one year for the x230 tablet with the win8 installed, but unfortunately, Lenovo did nothing's, why it have to wait, rather than upgrade my self, I believe the current x230t ,s some function will not work , as Lenovo also remove win8 from their websiteX230 tablet as a top level business laptop without windows8 is unreasonable, as win8 already available for so long timeI also believe Lenovo will have to do something to produce x230t with windows8, or new x240t with win8, because too many thinkpad fans waiting for that

Answer:Why thinkpad x230 tablet without windows 8 installed from the factory? What is the real reason?

To be a windows 8 certified device with touch screen feature, it has to have at least 5 points touch. The X220t and X230t uses a 2 point touch screen, so they do not meet the minimum requirement for Windows 8.

I have an issue that is plaguing my ThinkPad X230 Tablet. hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Hi all, I have recently upgraded to windows 7 (64bit) and now when I  put my tablet into tablet mode, the screen doesn't autorotate and none of the tablet buttons work. In order to rotate the screen I have to right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties/rotation.Interestingly if I press the tablet buttons while in tablet mode and then rotate the screen up to notepad mode within a few seconds the button will perform its function (rotate screen, activate tablet shortcut menu, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried running system update (4.0) to no avail. Cheers

Hi.I've been using ThinkPad Yoga for 4 days, and realized a problem regarding the rotation/orientation across the Laptop/Tent/Tablet modes. If I enter the Tablet mode (after flipping LCD to 360 degree), make several rotations with or without screen rotation lock, and come back to standard Laptop mode, then the orientation of TrackPad AND TrackPoint does not match the orientation of the screen. Does any one experience the same problem? Or, am I only one who have this problem? When I first open the box and use this machine, I didn't realize this problem. Maybe this is caused after I installed many programs and drivers.  So, I would appreciate very much if you let me know that you "don't have such a problem".It will also help me. Thank you!

I have a Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph that works without problems aside from the fact that, when I undock it from the keyboard, it doesn't detect that it should now be in Tablet Mode. I have to manually go to the Action Center and toggle it there. Same with docking it back. I have already checked my settings and I didn't disable Tablet Mode either.

Anyone have an idea how I can resolve this? I just want to seamlessly dock and undock the tablet and it should switch to tablet or desktop mode respectively.

I don't know if it's relevant but the OS is Windows 10 Home Single Language.

Turn off your Yoga 2 132. Press the tiny button next to the power button on the right3. Follow instructions to perform a factory resetIf none of the above attempts have helped you, it is probably a hardware issue.

Hey all, I have a weird problem.  My tablet buttons have stopped working-- but only in tablet mode.  That is, I can't rotate, or bring up the tablet shortcuts, or move around the screen in tablet mode.  Also autorotate doesn't work.  But if I switch out of tablet mode, I can do all of these things just fine (except for autorotate). Also, when I switch into tablet mode the screen doesnt rotate or anything, but when I switch out of tablet mode the screen rotates to the direction I defined in the settings (sometimes.. to be honest it seems pretty random to me).  I am running 32 bit vista w/ 4 gb ram on an x61 tablet with the latest drivers.  I have uninstalled the tablet button drivers and the lenovo system interface and reinstalled them already.. I have the latest APS. Help me out here.. I have no idea why this isn't working!  Don't make me have to reinstall vista to get the buttons working.. Tha'ts ridiculous!!  Arrrgh.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

Well, I've finally had it. I've had my 6365 CTO X60 tablet pc for over a year now and last Monday I lost pen functionality in tablet pc mode in the afternoon after working fine in the morning. It works fine, even now after rotating the screen back to laptop mode. As soon as the screen is rotated back to tablet pc mode, no pen functionality but the mouse still works fine so I know it's functional in laptop mode but rotate back, all ok!  I did uninstall the Wacom drivers, restart, and then downloaded the tablet pc, windows xp version drivers from the wacom.com site as instructed in a previous post. Unfortunately, the digitizer pen is still disabled in tablet pc mode and works fine when rotated back to laptop mode. I've called Lenovo tech support in Atlanta four times now and they've been totally useless. I wiped out my X60 tablet last Friday and used Rescue and Recovery to reinstall the operating system back to it's factory settings. I went back and unistalled and reinstalled the Wacom driver. Nothing. Since that didn't work either I've requested the box to ship this back to the Memphis Depot. Hopefully, I'll just get a new replacement machine that works but I'm so angry and frustrated w/ Lenovo's support because it's obvious that the people on the phone are not tech specialists and they couldn't even point me in a direction to get this fixed. It's cost me over a week now wo... Answer:X60 tablet pc digitizer pen functionality disabled in tablet pc mode

Problem solved! While the support folks weren't able to fix the problem over the phone, they did overnite me a prepaid return box which I sent back that day. Two days later they overnited my X60 tablet back fixed with a note saying 'LCD enabled'. I'm impressed how quickly they got my tablet pc back up and running. I'm glad I got that 3-yr. support warranty because I usually opt out of those things. This totally paid for itself. I just wish I hadn't been so reluctant to send back my laptop because I do need it for work and I figured I wouldn't get it back for at least a week or longer. I was so frustrated and pessimistic that I forgot sometimes these problems do get fixed in a very satisfactory manner. It's too bad the initial steps that led to sending it back were so painful. Bottom line: Lenovo fixed my pc quickly, no questions asked. Thanks!

Hello,I just bought a new Yoga370. When I turn the screen over to convert it to a tablet, it doesn't seem to work.Nothing happens when I touch the screen - the screen does not seem to have any sensitivity to the pen or my fingers. However, when I turn it back to PC mode, the touch screen mode works again.I would appreciate your advice on how to resolve the issue. Thanks.

Hello all. I received a second-generation Thinkpad Yoga S1 12 a few days ago. Everything is working well, except tablet mode. Occasionally when I'm browsing the web in tablet mode, the device crashes. Also, whenever I switch orientations, the device almost certainly crashes. After going into task manager, I've found out that the disk usage goes up to 100% for some reason many times in tablet mode, which is most likely the culprit. I'm fairly sure the ISD_Tablet.exe driver is having a major memory leak that's causing the overusage of disk. I've already restarted, restored, and updated through both Lenovo update and Windows Update several times, but no fix has been found. Any of you guys have any ideas?

Hello, i noticed that when i'm turned on laptop to tablet mode (physically) wifi stops working or wifi signal becoming very low.  I'm using Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14. Maybe you have a solution for this problem?

Answer:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14, wifi problem on tablet mo...

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

I currently use a Lenovo ThinkPad S1 Yoga, and have recently upgraded the 64-bit OS from Windows 8.1 to 10.Since then I have been experiencing issues where ?Tablet Mode? will activate suddenly and randomly while I am using my ultrabook in laptop mode. This is especially frustrating because it often occurs while I am using the keyboard which will then be disabled, and cannot be re-enabled. I have attempted to turn on/off the various Tablet Mode settings ? ?Make Windows more touch-friendly??, ?When I sign in...?, ?When this device automatically??, ?Hide app icons??, but no pair of settings seemed to work. In the end, I am forced to reboot, which is the only solution that resolves the matter. What steps can I take to resolve this matter once and for all without having to restart the system constantly?

Answer:Spontaneous Tablet Mode w/ lenovo thinkpad s1 yoga

Hi

In my case I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 and it took me some time to stabilize Windows 10 on it. I went updating the driver over time until it get stable.

I also have some settings similar to you, but mine (for example)  sometimes switches to tablet mode when I close the lid, but when I open it Windows change very fast to laptop mode, so it does not bother me.

I can suggest you to try to update your drivers, here are some of my tips to update the drivers on a Thinkpad when going to Windows 10.

These are some of my tips to update the drivers of your Thinkpad:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

If you have more experience installing and uninstalling driver, there are some other things you can do, but those options os AS IS outside Lenovo's suggestion.
1) There is DriverEasy that offers a decent for free scanning of your device and shows you which drivers can be updated from their database.
2) According to your machine devices you have the Intel Driver Update Utility and the AMD Driver Update Utility, sometimes it can help... Read more

Hello, I'm planning to buy a Thinkpad Helix. I read that the TDP of the device does alter, according to the way you use it:17W TDP in clamshell mode, 13W TDP in convertible mode, 9W TDP in Tablet mode. Here's my question:Is it possilbe to change the TDP to Tablet Mode, when docked into the Keyboard (I know the Clock Speed will go down, but for Office work it's still fast enough) and will this affect temperature, fan noise and battery life? Thank you for your answers RegardsPerian

Dear all, experiencing heat issue when your Helix is it tablet only mode?   I have instill the drivers mentioned in this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Biggest-Disappointment-Helix/td-p/11192... and the problem doesn't seem to have gone away. I don't have all the fancy temperature measuring tools, but my main complain is that when I "rip" the tablet to be in the tablet only room, it gets so hot to the point where the device is very uncomfortable hold, much hotter than Ipad 2.  I was only browning one website with IE. I have the 369865B i7core 246gb model

Answer:Thinkpad Helix -- Heat Problem Tablet only mode

Hi sfhkman,

You mentioned that you updated the drivers linked in the other thread. Do you mean you updated the BIOS to 1.14?
You can check the BIOS by restarting and hitting F1 at the POST screen.

And just to confirm, you are only browing one website when it gets hot? Is there anything running in the background such as windows update or some other process?
When it seems hot do you know what the CPU usage is?
Does this only happen when you have it in tablet mode?
What happens when it's too hot and you dock it?
Does it cool down where to a point where you can comfortably hold it after you dock it?

I know in the IdeaPad Yoga models of the past it was possible to disable throttling in tablet mode by disabling DPTF in the BIOS.  I've looked at my Thinkpad Yoga now, and there's nothing like DPTF in the BIOS or among the drivers that I can find.   Problem is the tablet slows down a LOT when in tablet mode.  All the applications take forever to open.  Everything is slow.  It's not right with a laptop that has an i5 5300U in it and behaves like an old tablet with an ARM processor  Any way to disable this throttling or at least lessen it? For reference, I'm still using Windows 8.1 on it.

I've had my yoga for 3 days now and have noticed that the Touchpad does not disable when in tablet mode. There must be some remedy to this as it makes tablet mode fairly useless since holding the tablet moves the mouse when you inevitably touch the Touchpad. This appears to happen with the 11s model as well (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-11s-Touchpad-in-Tablet-Mode/m-p/1168... and the driver mentioned as a fix does not resolve my issue.

The moderator comment is misplaced - this is the only message I've left on this forum. You've moderated my comment or deleted a duplicate but have not provided any response to my actual problem. As I type this, I'm actually becoming pretty frustrated by the fact you'd take time to school me in the ways of forum ettiquette and not provide any actual customer service. At more than $1,200, this Thinkpad Yoga's inconsistent auto-screen rotation, ever-changing touch screen calibration settings, incredibly hot case temperature while installing Photoshop and The Banner Saga, and of course, the Touchpad remaining active in tablet mode is resulting in my returning this computer. I love the weight and the keyboard, but these pros don't outweigh the cons (especially when added to Windows 8.1's inability to properly scale menus for an FHD 12.5 screen). I'll try again on Lenovo's next edition of this line.

Over the last few months my Thinkpad S1 Yoga has developed a habit of randomly entering tablet mode when the lid is about 90-120 degrees open, as if the lid was swung past 180 degrees. Consequently the keyboard and trackpad are disabled when this happens. Closing the lid to force the computer to sleep and then opening the lid again removes the symptom. Moving the lid past 180 degrees sometimes makes the computer go into laptop mode again, or sometimes makes the display rotate 90 degrees while staying in tablet mode. I tried to remove the sensor in Device Manager and let plugnplay rediscover it but the problem remains. So I'm guessing this is a hardware problem? For now my workaround is to keep the sensor disabled (which means no tablet mode unless I Before I tear the computer apart and start replacing parts - it's out of warranty - any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help with this.

I've got a desktop PC (Win7) with a broadband connection via the phone line, no wifi. I'd like to be able to use a tablet to access the internet in the house and garden via wifi. I think I need a wifi dongle which attaches to the PC and a wifi capable tablet, but do I need anything else, like a router, which I don't think I have? Also, I looked at some dongles and none gives a useable range, so what specs do I need to look for? The range I need is quite short, maybe 10/15 m. Is there anything else I need?

I'm not a wiz at this stuff btw, so anything too technical is going to go over my head.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Wifi connection to a tablet

Welcome to PC Help Forum sorcerer,

To connect to the tablet you will need a wireless router, not sure who your broadband provider is or what their rules are regarding routers but here in the UK Sky will not activate a router that has not been provided by them.

Can you post a link to the service that your broadband provider offers so we can take a look, in the long run it will be less expensive to use a wireless router + you will have the added benefit of being able to connect your desktop to the tablet and other devices by way of a wireless dongle.

Alternatively, there is another way you can do this but it can be costly, mobile broadband explained here

I've seen some other postings about this but haven't found a solution anywhere.  I have a new X230T with Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 Wireless card and the 2x2 antenna display with webcam.  WiFi works great in laptop mode but as soon as I fold the screen down into tablet mode the wifi signal cuts out.  I can sometimes get it to reconnect but it will drop packets like crazy and is unable to load any web pages.  This behavior happens in both Win 7 & 8.  Pretty sure this is a design flaw or physical defect.  Anyone else having this problem and found a solution? As is it makes the internet completely unusable in tablet mode which is a deal breaker.  This combined with the crappy touchpad is making me strongly consider returning this and getting a Fujitsu which is a shame since I really like the other aspect of the laptop.

Answer:X230T WiFi unusable in tablet mode

Hey there mgrharry,

I have found some useful information over on this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/X230t-Wireless-Issues/td-p/779321. I was uncertain if you had read over it, as you mentioned that you had viewed a few threads before posting.

achim19890 notes "There is also the requirement of the WPA2 security to use the full speed of a wireless n connection (This seems to be specified in the IEEE 802.11n), so make sure you are using this kind of security with your connection to your router." So this may be worthwhile to check on.

Additionally, if you will make sure that you Wireless Adapter's driver is up to date. Hopefully this provides some insight and can perhaps alleviate the issues you are having in tablet mode.

Aloha all,HELP!  Over the past several weeks my wireless connection suddenly began cycling from No Connectivity, to "Local only," to "Local and Internet," and then back to No Connectivity - consistently and every 10 seconds or so. It seems to me that the Access Connections Wireless Radio might be the culprit, as it powers off on its own, which is then immediately followed by this cycle of no connectivity to connectivity, over and over and over and over. Specs:Windows Vista 32-bit,D-Link router,11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter,ThinkVantage Access Connections.(any other specs needed?)I made no changes to my wireless settings before this started happening. It used to run perfectly fine -completely uninterrupted, speedy & smooth connection. I know the problem is not with my router, as my other computer (Dell, with Windows XP) is connected to the same router & its connection is uninterrupted.  Nevertheless, i did try rebooting both my modem and router.I've also tried the following:updating drivers, rolling back drivers, uninstalling system updates (that i am aware of),reinstalling system updates (that i am aware of),rebooting my computer (too many times to count), resetting the network adapter (72 times),fiddling around with the network connection settings, and whacking myself upside the head with the Foreman grill (Fortunately no one else lives with me - otherwise i would currently be writing to you from our local prison). Is anyone e... I'm having a similar problem with my notebook. Though the connection doesn't reset every ten second, I'll connect to a wireless connection and it'll just hang, connecting to the internet but never really getting there. My only alternative is to restart the computer, and even this doesn't guarantee that the connection will be established afterward. And also, for some strange reason, my ethernet port has been set to disable unless instructed to turn on, so whereas before all I needed do to connect to the internet was plug in the ethernet cord into the computer, now I have to go to the actual devices menu and eneable the adapter manually.I'm not sure what the problem is, but I have reason to believe that an update caused the connectivity aspect of the computer to go berserk. Hopfully it gets fixed soon. I'll keep you posted if I've found a solution.

Hi there! By some reason I ordered my Lenovo Yoga Thinkpad with Windows 7 pre-installed on it. I thought all portable devices was delivered with Windows 8. However, since I experience that scrolling using fingers in tablet mode is quite laggy I wonder if it's performance could be speeded up running the Yoga Thinkpad with Windows 8 instead? It runs quite smooth using the mousepad so I had an idea of the antiglare filter that's applied to the sceen that might cause this laggy experience? Or maybe there's a driver that speeds things up?

Hi everyone! I've been searching high and low for a solution to this very sudden, very annoying problem and have yet to come up with an answer so any help would be mightily appreciated!   Okay so my Thinkpad Tablet says it is connected to our home wifi network with no problems whatsoever, and the other computers on this network have no trouble at all, but when I try to access a website through say Chrome or check my email or facebook, it responds saying that I need to check my internet connection or cannot load this page. I am using a Belkin router. Hi Shannon, I feel you pain.  I should say, I've felt your pain...  Drivers and driver setting are likely at the root of all of your troubles. after months struggling with drivers provided by Lenovo, I went straight to the source.  In my case, Intel... I ripped out the existing drivers, re-installed and looked at all of the settings.  As it turned out, the default options just didn't make any sense,  I changed them and I don't have any issues with Hot-spots or Wired Networks... Your milage may vary, but with my Lenovo x230 Tablet, with an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 on Windows 8.1 this worked for me. Resond if you need more assistance... You may find that Lenovo has newer drivers on their site now.  It really wasn't their fault, Intel was shipping out bad drivers left and right.  Lenovo was likely choosing the best they could from a bad slew of driver versions. Cheers,Scott

When my x230 tablet is in tablet mode, the strength of the wifi signal is greatly decreased and packets get dropped left and right resulting in a very poor experience with anything that uses the connection. I have the 3x3 antenna (multitouch) and Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (2x2 BGN) wireless adapter. Someone correct me if I'm worng but I beleive that: The antenna on this and most laptops is behind the screen. In Tablet mode the antenna rest between the keyboard and the screen so signal strenght is going to be lower that when you are in laptop mode.

I wanted to give my impressions of the Lenovo TPT2. First off, the model I have is the 3679-27U, this means that it has the digitizer pen, windows 8 pro, no NFC, no 3G/4G antenna (though there is a slot for a SIM card). Let me also be frank about my biases concerning tablets. I am not a voracious media consumer. If Im going to watch a movie or TV program I prefer to do so with a large screen TV in the comfort of my living room. As far as checking email, messaging, twitter, and facebook that is why I have a smartphone. Why do I need another piece of electronic equipment that does the exact same thing as my smartphone? In my opinion iPADs and Android tablets are really only good for media consumption, they give you a slightly larger screen to run the same apps that your phone runs. If Im going to buy a tablet it has to provide some functionality that my phone or laptop cannot, otherwise it is a waste of money. Therefore, a tablet had to be able to run productivity programs: MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, GB-Stats, etc That meant a tablet using either the Atom processor or a Core processor (i3, i5). This left out not only Apple and Android but also any tablets running Windows 8 RT. Obviously one the major advantages of a tablet is its size and portability. My laptop is a comfortable size and fairly easy to carry around, so what advantage would a tablet give me. The answer is battery life. In order to be practical I would need a laptop with a significantly longer run time tha... Read more

Answer:The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2: Everything a tablet should be

Nice review. I have had my TPT2 for a little over a month now. I have used it extensively as my only device away from the office and have been able to do so without adjusting my computing needs too much. The only drawback that I have had is an under-powered USB port where i am unable to attach my external hard drive. Anything that I knew I was going to need for the day or trip I load onto a USB stick and problem averted.
Edit: I suppose I should mention that my usage is not too intense in terms of productivity. My programs of choice are typically the Microsoft Office package. I do a lot with excel, word, and power point and so far, I haven't run into any issues. I'm in the process of getting a new monitor for home and i'll have a better idea what it's like running a multiple monitor setup from the TPT2 and mini HDMI to HDMI connection. At this point I have a BT keyboard and Mouse which I have been using for the past few days with no issues (except when the battery is close to dying in the keyboard and it behaves as if it is possessed).
I might be one of the lucky ones but haven't had any issues with the wifi signal, sleep issues others have experienced, etc. Outside of the USB and mini HDMI to VGA issues, I'm still completely satisfied. If Wacom could update the drivers to enhance the accuracy of pen input, then I'd be completely satisfied given my particular usage patterns.

I solved this problem after reinstalling the driver the 3rd time. Not too sure why the problem is gone  however, a new problem surfaced (a less serious one). the mouse driver seems to be loaded quite late into the boot sequence, so after seeing my desktop, the cursor only appears after around 5-10 seconds. if i disable the touchpad in Device Manager, the cursor shows up immediately on startup (without the proper drivers loaded). guess it's a bug.

I was wondering if there's any way to wake a Windows tablet/PC connected to a wifi network in Connected Standby mode via wifi? Wake on LAN doesn't seem to work with connected standby (and wifi). We know that while in connected standby, apps can receive notifications and perform certain actions. Is it possible to create an app to wake the PC from connected standby?

Answer:Any way to wake a Windows tablet/PC from Connected Standby mode via wifi?

Depends on the NIC driver. Some of them you can go into is properties and disable "allow to power off" either in the NIC properties, or in the advanced power settings. If left on, then you can use wake on lan.

Hi. I've had my X220t for 2 months now, and I've realized that the internet connection gets really bad when the computer is folded, in tablet mode. When I'm at work, the drop in connection quality is so bad that I just can't use the internet at all... Does anyone have the same problem? Is there a good fix to that? Thanks!

Answer:X220T - Bad internet connection when in tablet mode

Look at your Power settings (Windows' one, not Lenovo's) -> Edit current plan setting ->advanced setting ->Wireless Adapter Setting -> set something else than "maximum power saving".

I just received my second non-tablet X230 after my first one didn't work out. The new one has Windows 8 Pro loaded on it and I noticed that many of the programs were optimized for a touch screen by default, I also had the touch keyboard button on the taskbar. This is not a huge deal, but does anyone know if there is a way to remove "Pen and Touch" support or fix this error. I imagine that they loaded the x230 tablet image onto my x230 by mistake. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.   Thanks!

I have just done a clean install of Windows 8 Enterprise on an X230, but the Tablet Input Panel does not show. The pen functions fine as a mouse, and this machine ran Windows 7 with no problems so I know there are no hardware issues. Is there any way to force the TIP to show or install the Tablet PC functionality if that is the problem?

Answer:X230 Tablet--no TIP under Windows 8

In the Windows METRO mode, the touch keyboard will automatically come out when the focus is in a text field. In the Windows desktop mode, one way to get the Touch keyboard is:Click the key combination: Windows + C to bring up the Charm.Click the Settings.Click Keyboard and select the Touch Keyboard. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not remember the selection so the next time you click on a text field, you have to go through the process again. I hope MS will change this. Even better is if the X230T is in a tablet mode (meaning the screen is lay flat and on top of keyboard, it will be smart enough to use Touch Keyboard by default. Edit: Another way to display the Touch Keyboard is to click the Touch Keyboard icon at the task bar.

Is there a way to specify different actions for the pen buttons?  For example, when using one specific program, I'd like the side button to function as if it were the shift key instead of the right-click but then have it operate as the standard right-click when in Windows or other programs. Is this a native functionality or is there a third-party program available that could give me such options?

Answer:X230 Tablet Pen Options

aardvarky, This is an excellent question! I definitely understand your wants! Officially, it needs to be a setting inside the software you want to use the digitizer pen in.

Examples:

With the new TBT2 there is a software called QuickSnip, insdie the QuickSnip settings you can change the digitizer pen button from right click to screen capture.

Inside OneNote you can change the settings of the Pen Buttons, here is a link to a X230T Digitizer Pen Input Youtube video that may have more clairification.

So, as Digitizer Pen Technology becomes more popular, I believe we will begin seeing more Applications and Software adding the technology to enhance their user customizations.

Question: X230 Tablet newbie

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Lenovo X230 Tablet. Specificly a 3434-CTR.

Now, as far as I know, a X230 tablet should have a multitouch screen and pressure sensitive built in Wacom tablet.

I just got this machine and it has a pre-installed copy of Windows 7 64bit Professional on it so I would gather that it has all necesery drivers already installed.

Problem is, the touch screen simply doesn't work - it doesn't respond to my fingers at all. It does work with the stylus pen, though. But it doesn't support pressure sensitivity. I tried using a portable drawing program that has never failed to work with any pressure sensitive pen tablet but it simply didn't work.

I'm guessing that there are some drivers I should install, but I don't know what to look for.

Is it possible that a 3434-CTR doesn't have a multitouch screen nor a pressure sensitive pen tablet?

Welcome to the community.

You may wish to visit the Parts Lookup page. Fill in your S/N and machine type (3434) and it should return a list of parts that went into your build. Either post the whole list back here, or, if it's obvious, post the P/Ns for the LCD panel and we can try to assist further.

Answer:x230 Tablet "Black Button"

I have not discovered a way revamp the Black Button without changing the registry, However, this may be a good alternative for you to create your own hard shortcuts in Windows 8:

Use the [Win-Logo]+[D] to see the Windows-8 desktop.
Right click on the Windows-8 desktop and select New, Shortcut.
Then in the called input box simply enter the appropriate shortcut text.
(found under the properties of the desired program)
Once a desktop shortcut is made, right click the shortcut, press properties and shortcut key replace none with the key or key combination you would like to use.

Then Pin the Desktop Shortcut to Start (Menu). To do this right click on the desktop shortcut and select "Pin to Start"

I also thought I would share the official Windows 8 shortcuts with you.

Hello all,I have 230X tablet and I upgraded it to windows 8.Since the upgrade, I feel that the power manager shows wrong time remaining, and every time I try to configure something with the power manager dashboard it crushes as "not responding".I read that the battery should last for 7+ hours, but after a full charge it shows only 3+ I also installed the latest driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't help. Does it sounds familiar? Does anyone has a solution? Thanks!

Answer:Power manager X230 Tablet

Hi, As far as I know, Lenovo has not supported Power Management for Windows 8 yet. What you said happends to me too. The time remaining is not accurate. Sometimes it drops from 25% to 10%, and the computer goes to sleeps after a few seconds... But after I reset my battery gauge, it solves the problem. By somehow, I discover that Power Management does work in Guest Account. You should perform Battery Gauge Reset in your Guest Account. Here is what I do: You should activate your Guest account (When you hit Windows key, type Accounts, Users accounts (in setting) -> Manage other Account -> Turn on GUEST account. You run battery reset there. (it takes long time since the computer will fully charge your battery and then completely discard and then chage again). Unfortunately, you cannot switch account during you perform battery reset and you cannot turn off computer during that time. It takes about ...12h to perform the task. But it works for me. The drawback of Guest account is you cannot connect to internet. I hope that LENOVO would support Power Management soon!. Too bad for a business laptop .

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

Answer:x230 Tablet keyboard issue

I would just replace the keyboard.  This sort of problem is almost always a short in the keyboard.  Used ones are commonly available.  The T430, X230, T530, W530 all use the same keyboard

I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet.  The trackpoint and touchpad have stopped working.  This just happened today, after about six months of use.  When I boot the machine, I can move the mouse cursor for a few seconds, but then it stops.  I don't see any error messages.  The Ultranav panel in the mouse control panel applet shows the controls for both trackpoint and touchpad greyed out--they can't be clicked on, and the "enabled" boxes are not checked.  The device manager says that the device is working.  If I try to update the driver, I'm told it is up to date.  If I uninstall the driver and reboot, the trackball and touchpad work, but they seem to be using generic drivers--the ultranav panel does not show in the mouse applet.  I'm told to reboot to complete installation.  However, if I do that, I'm back to square one, with the ultranav not working.  I checked the boot configuration, and it shows both the trackpoint and touchpad as enabled.

If that doesn't work then I would assume it's a hardware problem.

(if only portion of page is displayed) Can you have a pdf doc opened on half of display, while taking notes with digy pen on other half of the display? Can the digypen be used with word and excel?thanks, and have a great day

1. the measurement you have is with the 3 cells battery fitted, it is not the measurement for the X230 with 6 cells battery fitted. The 6 cells battery will add another 1 inch to the measurement of 9 inch. 2. Yes, you can zoom by pinch. The movement of page with one finger depends on type of pdf software you use. 3. Yes you can write on the screen whilst having a pdf doc opened on half of the screen. 4. Yes, you can with a digitiser pen in both the Excel and Word. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037681356/http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037657335/

I recently purchased a X230 type 3434-CTO Tablet (the one with gorilla glass). The first night I had it it worked great and I was incredibly happy with my purchase. At the end of the night I began installing an update for windows and let it run overnight. The next day I encountered severe problems with the touch screen. Pen input will not function at all in tablet mode and intermitently in laptop mode. I began with restoring windows to before I updated, then reinstalled windows and all drivers ect. Nothing has worked so far. I brought it to the IT department at my school and they tried using older drivers ect, nothing has worked so far. I am increidbly frustrated, has anyone else encountered this  or a similar issue? Thank you for your time and thought

Hey guys, I'm new on this forum and I'm also new in using X230 tablet or any 2-in-1 laptop. This is my second ThinkPad but first convertible laptop. About problems. Shortly after I've got this ThinkPad I've installed Windows 10 because in my opinnion it works better and IS better than Win7. But after installation, I've encountered a few problems.First problem was no auto rotation - I could do that only by installing drivers for Tablet Buttons (it didn't bother me that much as next few problems).Second problem was not working Dolby Profile - anyone has suggestions why? I've read that eccp4.exe or something like that is not supported in Win10. The only thing with Dolby that did work was Dolby Digital Plus (and the equalizer there is horrible!).And third, and also MAIN problem was random screen touches. Did anyone encountered this kind of problem on yours X230 tablet? It happened only when I was fully in "tablet mode". Like for example I was doing some notes on classes and A LOT of times Action Center came up. With no touch from my side - I was only writing notes or not even touching the screen. Also normal touches appeared, not only Action Center sliding. Firstly I've got a little scared because it's used laptop bought on something like ebay. But my second thought was to go back to Win7 from recovery (which didn't work with F8, I've used SWM/WIM tutorial to fully recover system). And finally it seems that this problem doesn't occur on Win7. i've been running windows 10 as a devoloper since before its's launch with very few issues.First make sure you download the drives from lenovo for winows 10 that till fix most of your issues.some things are just not compatable with the windows 10 OS look for replacements in the windwos store but your dolby does have a driver update. for some reason the thinkvantage software does not down load the drivers for you you'll have to do that on your own. Once you download all your drivers your X230T will run much more normaly. keep in mind however if you have the touch screen model it only supports 2 finger touch while winows 10 supports 10, it still works but many of the gestures don't you can chage your screen if your so inclined as far as i know there is no driver update. Good luck

My X230 Tablet laptop hangs after booting or reawakening from stand-by. It happens every single time. It lasts for about 2-3 minutes, during which the cursor can be moved but nothing responds. The hard-drive status indicator is constantly on. After 2 or 3 minutes the laptop becomes responsive again and the problem doesn't return until I reboot. Sometimes the problem occurs immediately after booting, sometimes a few minutes later. I've had the problem since I got the laptop.

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

Hi all, This laptop is giving me nightmares at this point. I can't afford a new one at this moment so i come here for input. The issue I am having right now besides the known audio failure is with the power management, spedificaly the throttling that happens while it is on AC. To me, it seems that the Speedstep roles are reversed. It runs on full turbo speed, over 3ghz on battery but it clocks down to 1198mhz according to CPU-Z when it is plugged in. No combination of settings either in the BIOS, Power manager or the Windows power options have any effect, everything is at 100%. The battery is installed at all time and I have tried both 65 watt and 90 watt AC adapters which are both new. BIOS is updated and I have tried both Win 7 and 10, fully updated with a fresh install with newest drivers and programs and numerous BIOS resets with CMOS battery removed. I am suspecting the power jack at this moment but Power manager reports both AC adapters correctly. I appreciate any response if anybody else has faced this issue or anything like it.

Answer:Upgrading Video Card in X230 Tablet?

Pardon my ignorance up front if I am wrong, I have an x220 and have not studied the x230 in any depth, but I suspect this isn't even possible, even on the x230.  On the x220, and I suspect it's much the same for the x230, the video card is a part of the intel chipset (it basically leeches cpu and ram power from the normal system cpu/ram and is not a dedicated removable/upgradable mobile graphics device with it's own cpu/ram like a mobile GeForce or mobile Radeon card). Perhaps there are new inventions on the market that can do the trick, I haven't been keeping up, but when I checked for the x220 their wasn't a viable open slot in the system for putting in such a dedicated mobile card.  The only option was an 'external' hack that allows one to use a dedicated desktop GPU card for when they come home with their system and dock it up to an external monitor.  Looked like a bit of work to set-up but once it was set up and running, it would allow for using a powerful GPU for games and graphic apps etc., while at home/office at least. Would be nice if the newest line of these tablet laptops had room for mobile GPU's, it's about the only thing missing for my interests, however that said, the integrated internal graphics work quite well from my experience, for mild gaming with the settings turned down and for graphic editing (most top 2D and 3D applications work surprisingly well, but far from as good as they would work with dedicated gpu, good ... Hi everyone, Had some questions on some things. First: The computer was advertised with a backlit keyboard but didn't come with it. How would I add it?Second: The memory usage hovers around 2.2 - 2.5 (8gb ram) - this is much higher than my X61T it replaces. Any way to lower or is this normal?Third: I saw in this review: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CCIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%...there is an accelerometer which determines orientation - how do I turn this on? Fourth: A lot of this bloatware that lenovo never works properly - for instance when trying to change the % to how long is left, it doesnt work. Also, when trying to show the different power plans, doesnt seem to work as well.  Other than that the computer seems pretty awesome. Can't wait to get it up and running.

Answer:Just got my new X230 Tablet, had some questions on how to work somethings.

1. The backlit keyboard is optional and not available on all models. Try pressing Fn+Spacebar to see if it turns on - once for Low, one more time for high and again to turn off.2. Is this for the same operating system? As far as i know X61T's shipped only with XP Tablet and Vista. Also, the X3100 graphics chip on the X61 uses up to 384MB of shared memory, whereas the new integrated graphics can take up a lot more. It might help to remove all the Lenovo bloatware you don't need.3. You need to make sure you have the Thinkvantage Active Protection installed. After that you can check in the control panel if it's working (Link to image), or download something like QCNLive that shows the accelerometer readings.4. Can't help you here, as i usually uninstall the stuff i don't need. Just stick to the battery info Windows provides.

Hello,First, yes, I realize Windows 8 is not generally available yet, however, a solution may already exist considering the imminent release.I have a X230 Tablet with Windows 8 Enterprise. The 2 USB 3 ports are working, but only at USB 2 speeds (same transfer rates when hooking up a USB 3 device to either of those ports as I get hooking up to the AlwaysOn port on the other side (more or less 25 MB/sec).I never had Windows 7 on this tablet, so I don't have a comparison. However, on a X201 Tablet with a PCIExpress USB 3 add-in card I get transfer speeds of at least 100 MB/sec, which is about as close as you can get I think.Windows 8's (Microsoft's) USB 3 xHCI driver is installed (version 6.2.9200.16420).Are there better drivers available? Am I missing a setting somewhere (in the BIOS perhaps)? Thanks for any assistance,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet USB 3 performs at USB 2 speeds (Windows 8)

I thought I already had checked the most obvious UEFI settings, but I guess not. In the USB category, there is a USB 3 option which was set to Auto. Based on the description, that looks like a good setting. However, I changed it to enabled, and now I have transferred rates of about 75 MB/sec. Still not as good as possible with some other controllers, but hopefully some better drivers are forthcoming.SA.
