I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My new x230i tablet 3437-AP4 does not have a wifi card

i3-2370M(2.4GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 12.5in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Wireless option, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, X230T UltraBase, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64

Your machine indeed doesn't come with the wireless card installed, it is probably used in the corporate environment, where they don't want any sort of wireless communication that could be eavesdropped. Since it is an option, then you can just purchase and install the wireless card (remember to get the one with that has the Lenovo FRU printed on the card, otherwise your machine may not accept them <--- Generic cards are not going to work without whitelist removed BIOS firmware, which doesn't exist AFAIK).

http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x230t_fru_bom_20130410.pdf

The above lists the wireless card compatible with your machine. I suggest that you get either the Intel 6205 or Intel 6300 (if there are 3 wireless card cable present).

I have an x230i tablet (3437CTO) that was charging overnight.  In the morning, it was off, no lights anywhere, and it won't turn on.  The battery was working just fine prior to this, and the charger still works with other machines.  Is it dead, or is there any way to recover?  Appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

Answer:x230i tablet won't turn on

First, unplug it and remove the main battery. Press the power button 5 times, holding it for a full 5 seconds on the last time. Put the battery back, plug it in, and try again

Im haveing problems turning on the keyboard backlight

Answer:x230i tablet backlight problem

Good day and welcome to the community.Looking at pg12 of the X230T user guide, there appear to be models with, and without, a backlit keyboard: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x230t_x230it_ug_en.pdf

Does your spacebar have this icon on it:

If not, then you don't have a backlit keyboard. If it does have the icon, the pressing Fn and tapping the spacebar should toggle the backlight.

Hpe this helps.Regards.

Looks like the LCD panel is damaged. Call warranty. Since you have accidental warranty, they should replace it either way.

I'm getting a very short battery life on my new x230i tablet.   I have it on reduced energy consumption. Power Manager says I'm using 8-10watts (fluctuating). But it's estimating only 1:42 of remaining time, with 72% battery life. In my experience, it is generally lasting less than 2 hours on a full charge. I have the regular battery, FRU Part number 45N1075. Power Manager battery tab says the battery condition is "Good". Power use tab shows CPU 33% and GPU 100%. Windows task manager says CPU usage is hovering around 10%. Keyboard backlight is off.  What battery life do others get when they are using 8-10 watts of power? Is this just a defective battery that I should ask Lenovo to replace?

Answer:X230i tablet battery life only 2 hours?

Ooops I clicked "me too" by mistake! ow to "unclick" it?Anyway, it seems that 45N1075 is 0A36285 battery which is only 29.50 Wh As your laptop uses 8-10W it should give you up to 3 hours. Remember that you cannot drain your battery completely as there is always something left for safe shutdown and as you use your computer there are aways power consumption spikes just because from time to time applications require to do some calculations or access disc.As in X220t even in "Energy saver" power plan there is some room for little more power savings, modify it to decrease power consumtion even further.Or get 52+ battery which is six cell and should give you twice the running time.

I've read from various places that Lenovo whitelists WLAN/WWAN cards in BIOS. What level of whitelisting do they do? Will this block all aftermarket cards? I'm interested in installing a Killer 1102N Wifi card (primarily because of the control over the network stack the driver provides the user with). Will I have any problems with this? Do I need to hack my BIOS etc? Heres a link to the actual wifi card product http://www.bigfootnetworks.com/killer-wireless-n-1102/  I'm only purchasing this aftermarket because Lenovo doesn't actually offer this card in their notebooks

Answer:X220 Tablet + Killer 1102 N Wifi Card?

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unauthorized_MiniPCI_network_card

The reason for the whitelist is to match the card to the antennas to comply with FCC regulations regarding interference.  Most mfgrs. do the same thing.  The link explains it fairly well.  The card has to be Lenovo branded.  You can take the exact same two wireless cards and if one is not Lenovo branded, it will throw the error.

And yes, you would have to modify the bios.

Hello folks. I have an X61T (7764-CTO) in which the wireless card seems to be failing intermittently. I'd like to replace it with a more modern one, preferably of the 5100, 5300, or 5350 variety. Are there any card w/ these chipsets that are known to work in the X61T? The only card that the Support page lists for this machine is the "ThinkPad abg wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter", FRU 41A4071.  Thanks,Andrew

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

Answer:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

I have a PCI-e WiFi/BT combo card that worked in my HP laptop, but when I put it in the N580, It would not boot and said the wifi card was not authorized and I would have to remove it and replace with an authorized card. There are SO many different card available, I just want to find the correct one that will fit in the BIOS Whitelist.  I'm looking for a Dual Band wifi with Bluetooth 4.0 preferred. Answer:Can I replace stock wifi card with an Intel 6235 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI-e card in my N580?

Hello and welcome,

Whatever card you use, it MUST have a Lenovo FRU number.  Cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist have been modified to provide a specific subsystem ID to BIOS.  Reputable sellers will list the Lenovo FRU if their card is compatible.

For example, a generic Intel 6150NX will not pass the whitelist, but a 6150NX with a 20002543 FRU number will pass.

Here's the list from the N580 Hardware Maintenance Manual:

My Dell has been acting up pretty recently (6 months old and still under warranty), and the battery does not charge past 80%. Once it get's near the 80% charge, it immediately fills up to 100%.

I've remembered using the laptop for more than 6 hours under moderate use but now it barely lasts 2 hours.

Please give me some advice because I'm really dependent on this laptop.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 3437 Battery Issue

You have 6 or 8 cells battery. If 6 it's normall. Should work about 2-max 3 hours when new. On 8 cells could work till 5 h.
Producers give only 6 months of warranty on bateries

My Dell Inspiron 3437 ( Core i5, 4th Gen) screen suddenly stopped work couple of days ago, now it just worked for external monitor. What I done for the issue ( I did all works by an external monitor)
1. Taking a Diagnostics for all hardware no problem.
2. Using function key but no help.
3. Flashing new bios ( A10), the computer display worked!  but the screen did not display again when I restarted the computer.
4. I tried re-flash bios, but the bios program won't let me to flash same bios version.
5. I tested the screen on another laptop, it worked perfect.
So I guessed the computer BIOS chip corrupt.
Anybody can help?

Answer:****** Dell inspiron 3437 only works external monitor********

If the system boots to Windows, it's not a BIOS problem.  Check the display settings - if they look correct, but there is no display image, you either have a bad display panel or a bad GPU (i.e., mainboard).  Hold the D key through powerup -- if you do see the built in display test (cycling solid color screens), the display is bad - meaning the mainboard is the problem.  If you don't see that, the display needs to be replaced.

I'm trying to setup a wireless antenna for a small parking lot at my dealership. I'm using a Toshiba Portege tablet PC, a linksys WAP54G, and a dorky looking cantenna.

The system is supposed to enable our check-in employee to book in the new cars without ever having the come inside.

It seems the Toshiba wifi capabilities with the centrino thing are limited to wireless B standards? Max rate I can get is 11 mbps.

This stuff is kinda new to me, my first attempt with wireless stuff. I figured with the cantenna that I would be able to point it out diagonally across the lot and that would be enough. I can get halfway across the lot and the signal is at 50%...towards the back of the lot no signal at all.

There ARE cars in this lot and I know they can definitely goof up the signal. I'm wondering is the cantenna not good enough? Do I need a better wifi card for the Tablet? I could use some recommendations, perhaps someone has setup something similar?

Answer:WiFi and Tablet PC help

You need better antenna's in your location. Perhaps more then one. The tablet can only do so much.

Can someone put my mind at rest on this.
My hom pc has a firewall (software) and various AV/malware kit running.
My new tablet has anti viurs running on it but no firewall. If I go online via the tablet using the wifi am I not bypassing my firewall security?
Is my tablet therefore suddenly waving a little red flag at my IP address and shouting "come and get it!"
(I know I could get around this by implementing my router's firewall but I'm not technically savy and such things I beleive require a degree of know how.)
Or am I missing something?

Answer:Am I hacking myself using a tablet on wifi?

You cannot hack yourself. Can someone else hack you?
I guess that you are using your tablet for internet browsing and e-mail. It may be unwise to send and receive e-mails on a tablet that contain sensitive information. I would not do on-line banking on a tablet.
Your router should have a hardware firewall which is normally on by default and therefore, in your case, I guess is on already but it would help to which router that you are using.
IMO the threat to your home pc by using a tablet on your wifi is minimal.

I looked around but couldn't find a thread for this topic, sorry if I missed it...

I recently found my first tablet. A Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 (SCH-I800). It's ancient, one of the first 7 inch tablets, and was quite spiffy when it was released.

My idea was to set it up as a news/ weather station. Just leave it in the charging dock and let it scroll through news & weather updates via wifi. Nothing too spectacular, but I figured it's better than just tossing it.

My concern is that it might make my home network vulnerable. It's limited to Androi 2.2, Froyo, though it does have Avast anti-virus installed.

Your thoughts?
Thanks,
jtn

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help with this.

I've got a desktop PC (Win7) with a broadband connection via the phone line, no wifi. I'd like to be able to use a tablet to access the internet in the house and garden via wifi. I think I need a wifi dongle which attaches to the PC and a wifi capable tablet, but do I need anything else, like a router, which I don't think I have? Also, I looked at some dongles and none gives a useable range, so what specs do I need to look for? The range I need is quite short, maybe 10/15 m. Is there anything else I need?

I'm not a wiz at this stuff btw, so anything too technical is going to go over my head.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Wifi connection to a tablet

Welcome to PC Help Forum sorcerer,

To connect to the tablet you will need a wireless router, not sure who your broadband provider is or what their rules are regarding routers but here in the UK Sky will not activate a router that has not been provided by them.

Can you post a link to the service that your broadband provider offers so we can take a look, in the long run it will be less expensive to use a wireless router + you will have the added benefit of being able to connect your desktop to the tablet and other devices by way of a wireless dongle.

Alternatively, there is another way you can do this but it can be costly, mobile broadband explained here

Hey folks. I have an X61 Tablet, 7764-CTO. It has an Intel 4965ag (or agn?) wifi card in it. The problem is that now and again, the wireless just simply stops responding. In Vista, it makes it unable to open Network Connection, or the Network & Sharing Center. No wireless access points are seen at all. Cycling the wireless kill switch doesn't fix it.After such a failure occurs, when I go down to reboot, windows takes ~20 minutes to reboot on it's own. I'm using the latest Intel 4965 driver from their website. Out in the world, this will happen every hour or so.In certain places, it will happen every 5 minutes (reliably). In Linux (Kubuntu 8.10), I get the same regular failures, but if I rmmod the iwlagn module, and reload it, it WILL work again.  Is my wifi card dead? It seems like an annoyingly large job to replace it! Argh! I wish I had warranty

speedtest.net with wifi connection on my laptop gives download of 2 MBPS but on my tablet a download of 20 MBPS. The laptop with ethernet connection also gives 20 MBPS.
I replaced the whole modem/router.

I uninstalled the wireless drive and let windows reinstall it (it's 2008 version)
I couldn't find the exact model on Toshiba website to install the drive.

I disabled encryption completely.

Nothing worked.

Could it be firewall/antivirus settings??????

Hi, having totally reinstalled my X41 Tablet, I did not find the way to activate properly the WiFi with the drivers on Lenovo page. I finally found the program that solved my problem on Intel page (after several tries with no success). The name of the EXE file you have to download is : intel_pro_wireless_3945abg_11.1.0.5_3430 Here is one of the pages where you can find this. You have a choice between the drivers only or the complete software.

Hi,
I was given 2X Proline tablets that are about 2-3yrs old and identical. One has been reset to factory defaults, the other not. Both tablets will connect via WiFi anywhere but at home through my own router. The service provider blames the tablets and visa versa, so can get no meaningful help from either. My laptop, PC and cellphone all connect to Wifi via my home router. The tablets tell me the Wifi signal is excellent, it is turned on, it tries to connect and repeatedly gives me this same message in both tablets - Connecting.....Obtaining IP address......Authenticating.......then nothing it just keeps repeating the process! I have deleted the password and re-entered it several times, but it makes no difference. On odd occasions a message appeared that said Authenticating problem. As everything else connects with no problems to my router I can only assume some setting has to be changed in the tablets???? Any help would be most appreciated. I am technically challenged to a large degree, so please keep it simple so I can understand any suggestions as if there is a way round this problem.

Answer:Tablet won't connect to WiFi at home.

The tablets probably don't support the current encryption settings being used on the router. You may have to set them a bit lower. That's why you are getting encryption issue messages. Even if you are using the same password, if the protocols are incorrect, it won't work.

Hello, I got a problem with my x200 tablet wifi. I've been using it for approx. 2 years (bought used on ebay). All the time I had problems with connecting to any wireless network. I only connected to some (max. 10% of them) in administrative buildings and college (they have strong antenas). At home I use Tenda W311R+ router (802.11b/g/n) and still the same problem as almost everywhere else. I tried to change settings in access connections, windows wireless connections. Nothing worked for me. Finally I bought a new wireless card (Intel WIFI Link 5100, model: 512AN_MMW) just the same that the old one. It turned up not to be the lenovo original part (bought on ebay too) so I had do some procedure I found at google (taping one pin of new wifi card and putting it into WWAN card slot). Unfortunately it "worked" just the same way as the old one. I've also checked if both wires to from card to antenas are OK - they are. I don't now what to do next, hopeless sitiation. Does anyone of you have any suggestions? My laptop FRU: 7453EDUCore2Duo SL9400(1.86GHz), 4GB RAM, 16320GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD Touchscreen, Intel X4500HD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 8c Li-Ion, Win 7 Pro. Sorry for my bad english, looking forward to your valuable opinions!

I have an HP printer with no WiFi. Is there anyway I can print from my Tablet by using a wifi dangle in the USB port?

Answer:printing from a tablet to a printer with no wifi

No.
However you can connect the printer to your router (ethernet cable if supported or USB port on router if supported).
Then set PC, tablets and laptops to connect to the printer.
Another method is to use your PC as a print server for the other devices but this means the PC needs to be on all the time click here

I picked up a "recycled" X230i and decided get it running today.  First I installed Windows 10, (new HDD, new ram, new battery, and AC adapter) and it went pretty smooth, save one thing... no wireless adapter? **bleep**? The small green indicator is lit green as though it's working, and the switch is on, but that only seems to affect the bluetooth adapter.  I tried fn-f5 for radios and it switches it to airplane mode and back.  So I got frustrated with this angle and decided to install Win 7.  I am having the same issue, no wireless adapter driver, sigh... I do as much googling as I can stand and I can't stands no more.  If anyone could help me with this, that would be great.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem I'm having. I have a Thinkpad X230i laptop which is used in a docking station. The monitor is plugged into the docking station using the VGA port. There seems to be a slight issue with the laptop's port that allows it  to dock that is causing wavy lines to appear on the monitor. I've tried a different monitor, different cable and different docking station and it's definately that. There is a vga port on the side of the laptop, when the laptop is undocked I can use that port to connect the monitor and the picture is clear and there's no wany lines. My problem is as soon as the laptop is back in the dock that port seems to become unavailable, the monitor is still plugged into it but it just won't display onto it. I've tried various different detecting of monitor and screen settings but I can't seem to get it to use that vga port instead of the one in the dock. Does anyone know a way to get it to use the laptop's internal vga port when docked? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,

There are ripples when changing an angle and/or when moving the screen corresponding eyes. Besides, cursorial pixels appear around the Windows slot when moving. This problem is described here "http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Widespread-Y560-Display-Problem/td-p/238949..." in details. Also it is shown on this video "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ikm9aaLcDHk". It is about different model (y560) on the video but I have the same challenge. In the y560 model, the problems had been decided by the BIOS updating.Should I wait for the BIOS updating for the x230i or do I have to contact the Service?Has anybody this problem?

Answer:x230i display problem.

Hi, Legate

What version of BIOS are you currently running? The latest version is 2.06 and was released earlier this month. If you haven't already, I would definitely recommend making sure your BIOS is up to date before contacting support, especially if it solved the error you are facing on another machine.

Best,
Adam

Unfortunately, the Hotkey drivers seem to be missing; unlike the other downloads it doesn't contain a link to a file in the list (look here http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html in the driver matrix for example).  I found the Hotkey drivers for almost all other models; is it possible to install those instead?

You've done unneeded work IMHO. Just download and install ThinkVantage System Update application after OS installation and connection with Internet. Pretty new to the forum, so I apologize if something like this has been brought up before. I'm having some strange issues with my laptop.  When I first start the thing up, everything works fine and dandy... but whenever I put it into sleep or hibernation mode, that's when things start to go wrong.  For example, that on-screen display that shows up when you increase or decrease the volume will be there when I first turn it on, but will never show up again after resuming from sleep/hibernation.  My USB Bluetooth dongle will also work just fine, until I put the computer to sleep/hibernation... once I resume, it just won't work anymore (it'll detect things, but will pretty much instantly disconnect from them a few seconds later).  My wifi connection will also take a hit when I resume from sleep/hibernation, as it seems to take it a good minute or two for the computer to realize it's finally there before I can continue using it again.  There are other examples of this (the built-in webcam flat-out refusing to work after resuming from sleep/hibernation, sometimes the digital pen won't work, the monitor won't auto-rotate when I switch the laptop into tablet mode, etc.), but these are my most-common issues. I'm not sure how to describe this problem exactly, other than the computer just seems to "Forget" it can do certain things when it wakes up.   Has anyone else encountered an issue like this?  Sure, I suppose I can solve this b... When only the cable was working I checked for both adaptor driver's updates - 'they are already up to date'. Then the WiFi also stopped working. My adaptors are 'working'. I've been round their Properties Tabs and all is OK. MS diagnostics only say that there probably is a issue with the drivers. 3 other computers plus 3 tablets use the shared router's WiFi without any problems and only 2 are ever used at a time so it's not overloaded. The router is OK. I started the Lenovo Hardware scan but it just went on loading and never started for 12 minutes - a clue here? At least I can still use it offline. Luckily I have a PC to investigate, but as yet no luck even from another forum. Any help please

I've seen some other postings about this but haven't found a solution anywhere.  I have a new X230T with Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 Wireless card and the 2x2 antenna display with webcam.  WiFi works great in laptop mode but as soon as I fold the screen down into tablet mode the wifi signal cuts out.  I can sometimes get it to reconnect but it will drop packets like crazy and is unable to load any web pages.  This behavior happens in both Win 7 & 8.  Pretty sure this is a design flaw or physical defect.  Anyone else having this problem and found a solution? As is it makes the internet completely unusable in tablet mode which is a deal breaker.  This combined with the crappy touchpad is making me strongly consider returning this and getting a Fujitsu which is a shame since I really like the other aspect of the laptop.

Answer:X230T WiFi unusable in tablet mode

Hey there mgrharry,

I have found some useful information over on this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/X230t-Wireless-Issues/td-p/779321. I was uncertain if you had read over it, as you mentioned that you had viewed a few threads before posting.

achim19890 notes "There is also the requirement of the WPA2 security to use the full speed of a wireless n connection (This seems to be specified in the IEEE 802.11n), so make sure you are using this kind of security with your connection to your router." So this may be worthwhile to check on.

Additionally, if you will make sure that you Wireless Adapter's driver is up to date. Hopefully this provides some insight and can perhaps alleviate the issues you are having in tablet mode.

Here's a problem that nobody seems to know the answer for.

I have a home wifi that works great. We have a couple notebooks and various other equipment (printers, etc) that run on it great.

My problem is with my Asus eee Pad SL101 tablet. I can connect to my wifi but can't get out to the internet. My wifi router is the isp's (Comcast) and all the other devices can get on the internet except my tablet.

I also have a android phone (LG Optimus V) that can work as a hotspot and does. I can connect my tablet to the hotspot on the phone and all works fine but a bit slower than my wifi in the house.

Both the hotspot and the wifi have security codes and both work fine, just can't get the tablet to go out on the internet.

Now the really crazy part. When I connect my tablet to the wife, I get the challenge for the password and then it connects to the router, gets and IP address from DHCP and appears to be connected. I can even go to the configuration on the router from the tablet and look at it. The icon on the table stays grey (the icon shows the strength of the signal) and would normally turn blue when connected to the internet. This I know because when I connect via my phone hotspot it does that (turns blue).

I have checked the router configuration to insure that nothing is filtered out (i.e. mac addresses, etc). When I look at what is connected on the router configuration I don't see the tablet. When I do an IP scan from my notebook I see the tablet is... Read more

I bought a new x230i but I would like to install a new OS rather than using the pre-installed one. How can I backup those ThinkVantage tools, drivers, OS, etc first? I assume its all on the recovery partition, correct?

Answer:X230i How to Backup recovery partition?

There is a link on the ThinkVantage Tools named Factory Recovery Disks.  It lets you make one (and only one) copy of the recovery disk.  I messed up and created it on a SDCard which I found out isn't bootable so be carefull :-).  I believe it can copy to DVD disks and you can also use a USB Stick.  I found that 16gig is needed but it might be different for your system.  I ended up having to call support for replacement recovery disks because I messed up my one and only chance.

My assume is the card f5521gw isn't whitelisted in the newest BIOS dispite this card (even with the different p/n or FRU) is listed in the current (!) fru_bom file for the x230. Possibly it was supported in the initial BIOS versios. Currently the half sized card Ericsson h5321gw is listed in the fru_bom file.

Hello, i noticed that when i'm turned on laptop to tablet mode (physically) wifi stops working or wifi signal becoming very low.  I'm using Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14. Maybe you have a solution for this problem?

Answer:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14, wifi problem on tablet mo...

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

Regards

Please could someone help me with a problem I have had for the last 18 months. My Z70 cannot fully obtain a good wifi signal when my router is only a few feet away.  My 13.3" HP can deliver blistering speed from the same distance. So I had to purchase Netgear Wireless-N DualBand which connects into my USB port and yes it does work. The retailer I bought it from John Lewis in UK were not at all helpful. They said they could send it away for inspection and could take up to 3 months. Now can anyone advise if there is a faulty wireless card in my machine that needs replacement, or something else maybe?  I am lost and would really appreciate some help from Lenovo  what to do.  I cant use it outside my home, it just won't connect to any wireless signal. I bought in August 2015, upgraded to Win10 and the wireless worked fine for 6 months, but gradually deterioated over time.  Thanks. Pete

Answer:My Z70 Lenovo Tablet can't access wifi without a wireless booster

I dont know about this tablet but the wifi in some devices is very susceptible to interference from other nearby signals (I've seens this myself on a tablet and a laptop before). Routers in the UK mostly use one of 3 channels by default (1, 6 or 11, I think) so it is not uncommon for those to get crowded. You could try installing a wifi analyser program on your laptop. (If you have another working tablet you could use that - there are good freeware programs for andoid to do it.) This will give you an indication if this might be the case for you. They often give a graphic display which is easy to read and understand. If it looks like a possibility try changing the channel your router settings to use one in a less crowded area of the spectrum. You devices may adjust to the new settings automatically, but you might need to sign into the wifi again - it varies. This can make a huge difference.

Recently gettig Access Connections cycling the WiFi connections continually On and off each for 15 seconds. This happens on most WiFi sites so it is more a problem with software on the X200-7449. I have downloaded all updates and installed them but the problem remain. Please advise what else can be done? Cheers

Answer:X200 Tablet Access Connections Cycling WiFi On-OFF

I had this problem, initially, after receiving my X200T.   I think it was caused by trying to operate BOTH the WiFe and Mobile Broadband radios at the same time.   Once I created three location profiles under ThinkVantage "Access Connections," that problem went away entirely.    Ken

Could be power manager that deactivates WiFi after a certain time in order to save energy. Check your power settings if the device is allowed to shut down...

Hi,I have here a X220 Tablet and I want to share with WiFi my internet connection to my mobile device....How I can do tis?

Answer:Sharing WiFi internet access from X220 Tablet

Get the Intel MyWifi tool; it lets you set up an adhoc wireless network while maintaining the connection to the existing wifi hotspot.

So I've got a weird problem...Whenever I have my Yoga flipped into tablet mode, my wifi adapter doesn't seem to work. It either can't find a connection or whatever it can connect to is a "limited connection" which of course means "no internet"It works in presentation and tent mode, and it even works if I'm holding it upside down in laptop mode. It's more of an inconvienience than anything else since I don't normally use the internet in tablet mode but it would be nice to find a fix for it.

Hi guys,

i recently bought a windows 10 tablet from Onda that came with full licenced windows 10 (didnt upgrade from anything) and i reset it as soon as id finished fiddling about with it and testing it so i could set it up fresh. it worked perfectly before resetting it and it connected to my wifi fine but after it wont find any internet connections and when i click the wifi icon in the corner it says connections unavailable.

ive tried the reg delete thing as it has vpn on it and i googled around trying to find a fix, one of which suggested if you upgrade from windows 8 that vpn breaks the wifi so this might be similar? however the command prompt didnt find the reg key/thing it was supposed to delete so that was a no go.

ive tried diagnosing connection problems and it resets the wifi adaptor but nothing improves, ive also tried updating the wifi driver but it says its already up to date and i cant connect to the internet on it to search for another adaptor. ive contacted Onda but theyve just offered to replace it if i send this back which im a bit wary of doing as they might just deny recieving the item and im out ?160 + whatever it costs to send to china tracked.

could anyone please help me?
this was what i tried:

Step-2: Execute the following command and then press Enter

reg delete HKCRCLSID{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f

Step-3: Enter the bellow command and press Enter

netcfg -v -u dni_dne
it couldnt find the reg to delete

When my x230 tablet is in tablet mode, the strength of the wifi signal is greatly decreased and packets get dropped left and right resulting in a very poor experience with anything that uses the connection. I have the 3x3 antenna (multitouch) and Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (2x2 BGN) wireless adapter. My driver version is 15.6.1.6 with a date of 2013-02-21.

Answer:x230t: WiFi in tablet mode is very unreliable and slow.

Someone correct me if I'm worng but I beleive that: The antenna on this and most laptops is behind the screen. In Tablet mode the antenna rest between the keyboard and the screen so signal strenght is going to be lower that when you are in laptop mode.

Hi. I have an Acer W4-820 tablet. Today, I was having problems with the wifi signal. All my other computers and tablets don't have this problem so I updated the BIOS. When that didn't change anything, I uninstalled the Broadcomm drivers and allowed the computer to reinstalled them. The wifi signal from my router is great now. I can access the internet just fine now. However, the computer will not recognize my printer or the NAS drive. The other computers have no problems. In fact, the other computers recognize the tablet being on the network even though it can not access any information from the tablet. The Synology assistant program on the tablet recognizes the NAS drive at a specific IP address, but can not connect. Network discovery is on as well as File and printer sharing for the private network. HomeGroup isn't set on any of the computers. Restarting the NAS didn't help. Restarting the computer didn't help. Given that the other computers aren't having any problems, I'm figuring that the problem is with the tablet.

Sometime during the night, I got access to the NAS, but then it blinked out on me again. I have already uninstalled and tried to reinstall the wifi driver again.

I have limited knowledge of networking and was wondering if someone might be able to help me. The tablet does not have the Windows 10 creator's update yet.

Thank you.

Answer:Resetting drivers on tablet - better wifi signal, no network

Hi CuriuosD

Please check that status of this problem, on one screen it shows Solved but when you look at thread it shows not solved.

When you open "Open Network and Sharing" right under network name does it say Private? ( I know you said in write up that Network Discovery is on for Private network)

You didn't mention a router reset. I would give this a try, power down, wait a minute power up.

On your tablet have you tried disabling the Firewall?

Microsoft Research Virtual WiFi helps a user connect to multiple IEEE 802.11 networks with one WiFi card. It works by exposing multiple virtual adapters, one for each wireless network to which connectivity is desired.
Virtual WiFi uses a network hopping scheme to switch the wireless card across the desired wireless networks.
Available at Microsoft.

Hello,

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.

When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.

I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.

I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.

Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.

Thanks

Aieden

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... Answer:Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one  I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help.  UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

Thank you for having this forum available. My husband passed down his Thinkpad A21M Type 2628-GTU to our son. The wifi card that was with it is a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11mbit/s t/n 03549501 p/n012938/c. When powered up last night, the ethernet was fully functional, but the wireless card didn't connect to the net. My husband assumed the Lucent card was bad. Is there something compatible I may buy to replace it? Do you have a suggestion on what he might have missed in trying to get it to work at home? He has used this laptop all over the country including at home before, so I would imagine he knows what he is doing. But, we do have a new service provider since the company upgraded his computer system. Thank you so much!

Answer:Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

Welcome to the forum! Honestly, it's time to upgrade to a newer card anyway, at least b/g. Any PCMCIA wireless card will work with your A21m, it all depends on your router, and your personal preferences. Hope this helps.

Hi, could anyone explain the battery status indication on the battery LED located on the top cover? Green light blinks in the sequence:3 short1 long1 shortthen goes off and battery does not charge My adapter sometimes works well and sometimes not with this indication and I need to know where the problem is. I travel a lot and connect to various voltages incl. using the 12V DC cigarette lighter adapter. I realized that this probably happens with a bad voltage on the primary side of it (voltage or current capacity not sufficient?). This indication is not described in https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd025118. I recon that the post https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X220-won-t-start-up-blinking-battery-light/td... refers to the same indication.

I'm having a problem that's been on and off with my.wifi for a while. I have a Yoga 2 Pro and the WiFi card seems to disappear completely and I can't get it back without removing all the batteries and leaving it a while. It's not like it needs a driver update, it totally disappears as if it's not even installed and won't show up in any OS or even under the "rfkill list command". It appears to be completely failing. Thing is I've swapped it out and it seems to be some part of the operation that mounts it that isn't working. I notice that it installs into the power board and not the motherboard. Would swapping this fix it? Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey guys,

So, what i'm trying to do is create a wifi hotspot using my computer. In other words, turning my computer into a router. I'm wanting to do this so i can use my ipod at home instead of only when i'm around other wifi hotspots.

My computer is running off of a wired router, so that i can play online on my PS3 as well. I was told wifi doesn't work well with Ps3's normally so i just bought a wired router. So, the mainline internet cord is plugged into a wired router and then another line runs into my computer.

For some reason, after i make an adhoc connection, the computer is not sending the required information to the iPod so that it connects to the internet.

I've tried entering in the information into the Static tab in my ipod as well, and still only get Local Connection instead of Local and Internet.

This is what my connection looks like through the router using ipconfig /all:

Answer:Creating Wifi hotspot with built-in computer wifi card.

Hi Cromsy,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!
