X220 Tablet Screen shuts down when rotated

Question: X220 Tablet Screen shuts down when rotated

The screen on my X220 Tablet has been shutting down when I rotate it from tablet to laptop positions when "Auto Rotate is enabaled.. When this happens, the only way I've found to get the screen back is to shut down and reboot.(Note: the backlight stays on, but the screen is blank and unresponsive.)I've found that by resetting the tablet utility options to "ActiveRotate" only ("Auto Rotate" off) it seems to work.I guess it's not a big deal, but I hate it when things don't work. Any suggestions as to why, or better yet, how to fix?

Preferred Solution: X220 Tablet Screen shuts down when rotated

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: X220 Tablet Screen shuts down when rotated

Hi, Jetsyfix

I'm not sure what is causing the issue, but a driver update may help. Here you can find all the possible driver updates for your system. There is a fairly recent BIOS update for your machine that may help, but I would update all drivers as needed and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

This just started this morning.  I noticed that if I left a browser window open for a while (particularly with a white background with black text), when I minimize the window, I can see a faint image of it left behind that fairly quickly (at least for now) fades away on it's own.

I turned off the machine, unplugged all the batteries and the power.  Checked and cleaned all the connections and vents.  Then powered it back up on just main battery (has nearly a full charge) played with brightness just a bit.  At first it wasn't repeating the problem but quickly it's showing up again and I am extremely concerned.

I am still under warranty.  Please advise.  Thank you in advance - best regards.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet (screen just startedshowing signs of screen memory burn in...)

Updated Info:  Problem only happens on the edges of the screen, a little less than an inch in from any edge, top/bottom/left/right and the problem may appear, but anything in the middle and it seems fine.

Doesn't happen if my background is set to solid black.  It's slightly noticeable with a mid-grey tone and it's worse still with a mid to dark grey tone that is tinted with a purple-ish hue.

Could some other x220 owners set their bg color to a dark grey purple color, and try to see if it's just a limitation.  I'm trying to determine if my hardware is failing, or if I just stumbled upon something that for most cases and purposes isn't going to be much of a bother.

Other than recently calibrating my touch and pen input, I haven't made any changes to the system.  Today I installed a new intel graphics driver update from Win update but it didn't change anything.

Thank you all very much.

I'm no sure if this is the right section to post in, so sorry if it's not. I have a tablet computer, called an x220 tablet. I was browsing the Internet, and left for a minute, and when I came back the screen was black with a flashing white dash in the top left corner. I've turned it off, taken the battery out, and tried restarting it many times. It will go to the openIng "thinkpad" screen, then back to the black screen with flashin underbar. Please help!

Answer:x220 tablet: Not booting, just bios screen, than black screen

The Thinkpad Tablet and the X220t are two different devices. Regarding your problem, I fear that the boot sector is defective. You'll probably have to reinstall Windows.

We are having some issues with the pen touch when getting closer to the edge of the screen. The little dot-guide loses accuracy around the edges, making it frustrating to adjust clicks. Another issue is the pen gets shaky when you are closer to the edge of the screen as well. Example - it is impossibleto draw a straight line when you get closer to the screen (OneNote). We had a Toshiba Portege previously and we never had these issues. I apoligize if this is redudndant but i would like a solution. Driver update? Thanks,

This is common with all Wacom tablet screens, but it shouldn't be as noticeable as you describe... It's certainly not as annoying on my X61T. Perhaps it's a defect?

I've started to notice that my x220 shuts or closes its screen when I'm idling or afk from my laptop for less than a minute (forcing me to enter my credentials everytime to get back in). This occurs everytime and within that time period of one minute. I thought well maybe I have to change my power settings so I went to the control panel to see my settings. After I made sure everything was set to a time longer than one minute, I checked to see if my screen would close and it still did; does anyone know what I need to change to make this stop happening?

Hi Integral7,

The two small rubber latches that hold the screen in place when closed have broken off my tablet. My tablet has warranty until 2015 and it hasn't been used heavily, Lenovo have said these aren't covered by the warranty. Does anyone know where I can get some replacements? The frontoffice said they come as part of 04W1783-rubber kit but when I called up the parts hotline they said it was not in that pack. Its driving me mad because the screen slides about all over the place... ANy help much appreciated

I did not drop it or hit it; I just close the tablet quickly and put away when i am rushing out. how can this possibly crack a well made screen? that just doesn't seem right? what are my options? i want lenovo to assume some responsibilty for this; this seems fair. I ordered the tablet 12-13-2011. Help! Thanks.

Good day. I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ThinkPad X220t  with warranty for one year. The laptop came with a factory seal. When I turn on a notebook,  the operating system(win 7 Prof 64bit) automatically install. At the end of installation in device manager  all devices have been identified and worked fine.  But in computer details in the "system" was written ?No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display?. Then I installed all the drivers on a laptop from Lenovo website again and again. That did not help. Then I reinstalled windows (win 7 Prof 32bit). That did not help. Previously, I had two X200t and when I installed windows 7, the digitizer immediately was detected, for the good work of  the touchscreen it was necessary to install drivers. But the situation with the X220 for me incomprehensible. Explain what I did wrong. The type of ThinkPad printed on the back label is 4294-CTR(in BIOS the type is 4294-CTO).

Answer:X220 Tablet. Not working digitizer and touch screen. Help!

Try to install manually Multitouch Driver from Lenovo Drivers Download  You can find it here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001408 V.

Hi, I just notice now I have a crack on the screen on my gf's x220t. She and I NEVER droped it, NEVER put pressure on the screen, NEVER put any sort of heavy objects on the laptop.  The crack is small (about 1 cm), very thin, it's hard to see but can be felt very easy when using the digitizer. Her computer also gets alot of thermal sensor failure at the begining of the boot (which can be fix by removing the battery and going into the BIOS). Can I get some help from lenovo STAFF on this. This is a 1300$ laptop. Please be resonable and don't tell me I've used it too hard. There could be a way to verify that the laptop didnt go through severe conditions and that it's a default in fabrication... Otherwise lenovos screen are made out of very cheap material. We both have a model 4294CTO x220 tablet I also made a quick video which can be found on this URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXOfVnAcYQY  Moderator Note: Edited subject to match content.

Answer:x220 tablet scratch/crack (about 1 cm, very thin) on the screen

this forum doesn't have a dedicated staff to personally troubleshoot issues.   everyone here (staff included) is here purely on a volunteer basis.   first and foremost this is a peer-to-peer forum.

with that said...

unless you have the gorilla glass model (non-multitouch), your X220T's display is polycarbonate.   based on your video, it looks like it could be a scratch in the writing surface rather than a crack, especially being along the horizontal plane and parallel with the pixel grid.   cracks tend to be more random where scratches happen most often along the X or Y plane.

have you called lenovo support about this or the thermal sensor errors?

Ok, I just got my screen in x220 tablet replaced. When I first usued it, I noticed that the new screen is now "rubbery" - there is no protective foil, but it just feels like there is some plastic cover over the screen, not the actual glass. Previously, the pen used to run smoothly over the screen - just like it does over glass. Now I can tell that the screen is covered in a platci/ rubber transparent layer - invisible but one you can feel by your hand or especially by the stylus. Now I want to ask you for something really silly - can you touch yours x220 tablet screen and tell me whether you feel the rubber coating or a glass? :-) I might be out of my mind, but I swear the feeling was different before. The screen that was replaced comes from the Lenovo service (repair was done under warranty) - maybe I got a screen from a different model (eg. x230?).

Hello, I would like to know if the outer clear part that goes on top of the screen is the same on the tablet as on the non tablet, or does the tablet have a different surface because of the pen.  I ask because as this is not supplied with replacement screens and I need this part also as its cracked.  I have seen a whole screen assembly for sale which is off the non tablet version so was hoping this would be suitable, of course I would swap over the wacom digitizer from the rear of the broken screen. Can these be ordered separately? if so is there a part number? Thanks.

Answer:X220 tablet screen outer plexiglass surface

The multitouch version of the tablet is certainly different. The outer "glass" is actually the capacitive discharge digitizer (finger touch). Pen-touch is handled by a different digitized behind the LCD panel

I bought x220 tablet 4 days ago with multitouch (lenovo model number: 4296-2BG). Straight out of the box the touchscreen is not working in approximately 20-25% of the screen surface. The affected area is in one piece on the right-hand side (if looking in regular notebook configuration), however the most of the edges of the screen work. The touch works correctly at other parts of the screen, but on this part there are spots where I never managed to make the touch and there are spots where only sporadically and randomly I can make the touch work. The problem can be repeated no matter if the computer works on battery or on AC, no matters if it is in tablet or in notebook configuration, and no matter what the program you use. It is most clearly seen in Paint - drawing by finger goes well until you get to the part of the screen when abruptly stops and only continues when you get to the healthy part of the screen.  I spent 2 days of trying to get it wok by- calibrating touch screen- turning on and off the touch ability- trying to tweak the touch through built-in properties- installing the newest drivers from lenovo- installing the newest drivers from wacom- cleaning the screen surface with the little cleaning tissue that comes along- turning on and off wifi, bluetooth, camera, and virtually everything I could turn on/off By the way, the system is in the vanilla state - I did not install anything on it (except new drivers for touch). Just made the 'recovery disk'... Read more

Ok, so the lcd is definitely multitouch , which is now a reason to concern .Basically , windows recognize it as a laptop, no hid touch input devices in device manager whatsoever. Is this a common issue? Tryed unpluging and plugging back in LCD micro cables but nothing.

Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo X220 Tablet that has touch screen and pen. They suddenly stopped working today. The LCD screen still works pefectly fine, however. The touch screen is enabled on the touch settings. When I try to calibrate, it does not detect my finger or the pen. I also noticed that when I tried to reinstall the driver and it said "a supported tablet was not found on this system". I have the most recent bios. I am running Windows 7 that came with the laptop. All windows updates completed. Is it possible for the digitizer to be defective, but the LCD screen to work perfectly fine?Could it be just a ribbon failure?Which part would need to be replaced, if this is the case? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:X220 tablet touch screen suddenly stopped working

Even though it looks like a single device, it is really 3 separate ones.  There is a basic panel.  There is a static discharge digitizer in the front to sense finger touches.  There is a second Wacom digitizer behind the panel to detect the pen.  Any of them can fail.  The wires in the cable can also crack.  Since both digitizers failed, I would first look in device manager to see if there could be a problem with a USB hub.  (digitizers both connect as USB devices.)  My next guess would be the cable.  Sorry I cannot be more definite.

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet X220 the upper glass of screen cracked a little

Hi sweetaaronm and welcome to the community,

You're probably going to have to call service to find out how much and how long it will take?  I'd do that anyway, just so you know.  It is going to be expensive.
Is there any computer repair shops locally that you trust?  I'd sit down with the phone book and make some calls.  You're going to have to know which screen you have so you can have them get the right one.

If Lenovo service has the screen in stock, the turnaround for the repair should be pretty fast.

Ihave just (after posting this request), and 2 weeks after the failed attempt to get the computer to restart, tried again with the laptop powered onto the mains - it must have completely lost battery power in the meantime, successfully rebooted into Windows, the machine installed Windows upgrqades as it booted, and restarted itself in the process. Iliterally bit my nails as this was going on - and pleased to report the macjine now seems to have opened up OKin windows. Phew!!!      Wonder if the "bad loop"it may have gotten into when Iwas tryoing to reboot several times before - resulting in black screen and white cursor top left - may have died with a complete power down. In any event Iam hugely relieved - so Lenovo upgrades were obviously "self-correcting and troubleshotting after all.... Cnwlenovo 15 February 2015

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

I have a new X220 Tablet, and the Pen and Tablet functions work perfectly out of the box as long as the unit is on the Ultrabase. As soon as I remove from the Ultrabase (or boot while not connected), the Pen & Tablet functions stop working. Conversely, if I dock the X220, the Pen & Tablet functions begin working again. The behavior is the same regardless of whether I have an external monitor attached or not. Any thoughts?

Hi All,
Trying to assist a friend with a second hand (factory reset) Dell Latitude 10 - ST2 tablet.
He received it running Windows 8 which we've upgraded it to Windows 8.1 directly from the store, which was successful. After that, applied all windows updates, among which were some optional driver updates.
That required a restart, and now the device "shuts down windows" within seconds of getting to the login screen.
I expect it's a driver issue based on the timing. I have not been able to get into safe mode though
- tried USB keyboard
- tried power + volume up
- tried power + volume down
Is there a way to boot into safe mode and disable drivers or remove updates?
I've also tried to get to the factory restore option (shift on the onscreen keyboard and restart) but it shuts down too quickly for that.
Any insight or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... Find the settings control panel for your graphics driver. (Intel?)There should be settings for hot keys, and enable rotation, etc.Disable either the hotkeys, or rotation, or both.Since you did not state what OS you have,I can not tell you how.

Try CTRL + ALT + RIGHT ARROW.

If not, cock your head sideways and right-click your desktop and choose SCREEN RESOLUTION.

ORIENTATION is an option to set.

Hello and Welcome!
There is usually an option in your video card software that will allow you to rotate the screen. Look for that.. You could have Intel, ATI, N-Vidia etc. You may need to open 'advanced options' to see it..

12.5" HD Multi WW 3x3 No Camera
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks. Why even release a model when both screen options are delayed more than four weeks? It's a phantom launch. No real product is available. I first checked this an hour or two after "launch" so it's always been like this. This is rediculous and is just a cash grab with the idea "see! it's available, please don't give your money to another company". Don't release products you can't ship. Don't release products before every major option is available, i.e., Gorilla Glass, i5, i7 processors...

Answer:The x220 Tablet is not available

It's interesting that apparently the Canadian site actually tells you in advance that there will be a 4+ week delay. On the US site, none of the options have notices saying they may cause delays. The order says "ships in 8-12 business days" all the way up until you check out, at which point it changes to "estimated ship date" in 5+ weeks (5/27/11).

Question: x220 tablet DOA.

So. I ended up, after about a month and a half of lurking on forums and reading reviews, purchasing an X220t with most of the bells and whistles, along with an extended next day onsite warrranty, extra pen, etc. I track it all the way from China on the UPS site every three hours. It has been an unhealthy obsession. And it arrived in the mail. Dead. Won't work. Won't boot. DOA (mostly. several indicator lights flash a bit, but I don't hear a HD, fans spinning, or screen turning on.)  I've talked with tech support (who did what they could [Nice people!]) but they were unable to get any immediate help or provide any advice beyond 'we'll call you'.Also, they couldn't find verification that I had a warranty for awhile. My concern is that this is for college, and I'll be going to school on the other end of the country (Colorado School of Mines!). And I'll be leaving shortly, and work has left me short on time, etc. So, how common is this? Should I try to get my money back and just buy a Fujitsu tablet, or something else from a retailer? There is always bragging about thinkpads being so tough, and mine is dead after a ride through UPS via Worldport. ( I know... could be any number of components that were dead to begin with, etc.) Are they just crap? I'm trying to keep it cool, but I just spent a whole lot of money, including on a warranty which is generally just gravy for most companies, and I've recieved a very pretty lump of plastic (again, I'm not an ent... Answer:x220 tablet DOA.

Sideburns, welcome to the forum,

I'm sorry to read about your experience, something like this must be a huge disappointment after having waited eagerly for the arrival of your new ThinkPad.

So far you seem to have handled the situation correctly and would ask you to take a look at this post in our FAQs; Mark's Advice About DOA systems.

I personally feel that in your situation, due to the time limitations you mention, the quickest route for you to persue would be with support and having the system repaired. Yes you have stong arguments to ask for a refund or an exchange system, but these could potentially take longer to realise than having the system repaired.

As to your question to how common this is; in my experience it's not at all common. I personally have been selling Think products for over 11 years and can count on one hand the number of systems I have seen which were literally DOA.

You could try <ctrl>-<alt>-<arrow key> to rotate the screen. (It is supposed to work, but doesn't on my PC, and is only temporary.) Alternatively, right-click on the Desktop, select "Screen resolution", and change "Orientation" to "Portrait"; this is permanent.

The correct key combination to use depends on your exact type of integrated video or video card. You could try pressing Ctrl - Alt and the up arrow key at the same time and toggle the keys again. I'm wondering anybody has the same problem, which is blurry display with the screen rotation. It looks fine at normal direction - primary landscape, but it becomes fuzzy when the screen is rotated at three other directions - priamry portrait, secondary landscape and portrait. I'm using x61t, 7764CTO (SXGA). I already asked both sides, lenovo and interl support. It's funny to hear that they ask me to ask the other side because that's not their problem - manufactuing issue vs. graphic driver issue. I'd appreciate it if anyone let me know anything about this.  Message Edited by eitima on 02-09-2008 09:03 PM

Answer:everything on the screen is rotated 90º; it's vertical instead of horizontal

Many display adapters support rotation of the screen. This is of benefit to Tablet and Notebook owners, for example, in viewing text and in using an overhead projector.

right-click a blank area of the screen, Properties, Settings, Advanced.
There should be under one of the tabs a provision to rotate to screen.

Most support some sort of "Hot key" sequence as well. Mine is Ctrl+Alt+arrow keys. Look at your adapter documentation.

I tried using the registry hack in Windows 8 to stop my battery charging higher than 95%, and was sucesful. however this has also had the effect of meaning that when I plug the charger in when the laptop is on, it says "plugged in, not charging". If I turn the laptop off, or put it into Standby, then plug the charger in, it starts charging fine and continues to do so after turning it back on. I have tried re-installing Windows 8.1 (and not installed any of the power management drivers) incase it was a driver problem, however this has not fixed it. If there is some way to completly reset the battery controller (i'm not sure if the chip that does this is in the battery of laptop) then I would be very glad to know.

I'm configuring an order for a maxed x220 tablet. I really want a large (512gb or higher SSD). Since that's not a factory option I guess I'll have to go aftermarket, open the case and do a home upgrade. I've done plenty of drive upgrades before but not an SSD.My review of message board makes it seem like there can be fit problems with some SSDs in the x220, and that with SSDs in general you should do a clean install and not a full clone (with OS).  That always raises issues with drivers and QA'ing the install to make sure you got it all back to factory fresh. I've read the posts about using a smaller SSD in the extra slot as a boot drive and keeping files on HDD, but I would really like to have everything on the faster media. So my question is, are there any x220 tablet owners out there that have self-installed large SSDs. Any tips, warnings or reassurances? Thx

Answer:x220 tablet and large SSD

HI,  I installed Intel 320 SSD (160 Gb) and used Acronis to clone the previous drive. It worked well. What may be of greater interest to you, is that I had to remove a black spacer attached to the SSD to make it 7mm from 9.5mm.  It can be easily done with Intel SSDs (except 510, I think), but you will have to order shorter screws online. Just search Google or this forum for screws for Intel SSD. Good luck!

I can't send it to lenovo to fix, of course. My config (currrent):Win 8.1 pro (legal)Sandisk 128gb SSDLenovo 2x4 gb ram My problem is the following: as some in this forum experienced too, it just reboots randomly for no reason. It goes "clic", black screen and back to bios then OS.The behavior is the exact same as if you kept the power button pressed until it reboots. What I've been testing so far:- Switching OS (I've tested win7, win8, ubuntu, debian, elementaryos, archlinux)- Switching HDD (one SSD, one HDD)- Switching ram (removed one, removed the other, switched positions)- Flashing the bios, upgrading, downgrading it)- Watching the CPU, fan, temp: all normal. For some reason the best experience was with Windows 8.What could it be? I used lenovo diagnostics tools downloaded from their official site, but the only one that works is memorytest (which proved to be ok) I don't want another computer, I love that one and I don't want to change. Some people mention driver issues (graphics card, power management, stylus)... Could you please, please, help me? I don't know what to do anymore. And I don't have the money to get another computer right now. I am a teacher and I draw comics as a hobby and I need my lenovo to ink and color my work.  I'm fairly aware as to informatics, I know how to create live usbs, I know how to uninstall / reinstall drivers, I know how to use m... Answer:PLEASE HELP - Should I buy Tablet or Standard X220?

tablet allows you to directly write on the screen or use your finger as an input device (if you select the multitouch option), so if you have need for such feature, then the tablet obviously will the best choice. If you don't use the handwriting or touch screen option, then the normal x220 laptop is better, as it is slightly lighter than the tablet model and also slightly more rugged due to the different hinge design.

I have a x220 tablet with SSD.Need a little more space, so was thinking of adding a mSATA SSD. Will want to continue to use my "regular" SSD as my boot and just use mSATA for storage (run VMs off it so need speed). I don't think there are any issues but figure was worth asking.  Moved to correct forum.

Answer:X220 Tablet - SSD and mSata SSD

no real issues. But the mSATA is only SATAII, whilst the main hdd bay operates at SATAIII.

I just got an X220 Tablet, with windows 7 pro. When I turn on the autolock (with integrated camera) function, it freezes the trackpoint and touchpad after I re-login. This is really sucks and I have to restart the computer to fix this. Do any of you guys have the same problem? I guess Lenovo should fix the bug.

Answer:X220 Tablet: Autolock bug

I tried this on X220 tablet and could not find any problem like you say.  Do you have any more details?
- Does this always happen when autolock locks the system, or does it only happen sometimes?
- Does this happen if you press WindowsKey-L to lock the system?
- What version of autolock do you have installed?  You can find it in control panel -> programs -> programs and features

Is there an easy way to get all my information from my old computer onto my new one?  I was told there might be a migration software or something and I just needed to hook the computers up.  I can't find any information on this however.  Please help!  I have already loaded some of the program so this isn't the problem, it's all my files and information.

Answer:migrating everything from my old X61 to my new X220 Tablet

Hello!  I have an X220 tablet with a stylus that, whenever near the screen, begins writing or selecting. Depending on the program I have open of course. The touch features work fine, and to the best of my knowledge all my drivers are up to date. At this point I think I need to simply replace the pen, but before I spend the money on that, i would like to see if any of you know how to fix this without a new pen.  Thank you for your time,BriceJ

Hi guys, New x220 tablet. Has been working fine, left it for the weekend and coming back to it this morning it will not bootup. Is built with Windows 7 and I had the full functionality of the biometrics running and sync'd with drivelock/bios password. On trying to boot this morning using the power button, I press it once, the button lights green (around edge), for a second, then disappears, the biometric light goes green for a second then disappears.  Nothing else happens from there. Have tried the usual - battery replaced, booting on just power etc but same happens.  I cannot hear or feel the hdd spinning (i have an identical model also which is working fine). Have searched through the forums and inet but cannot find any issues relating to the light sequence etc (wondering if it had a specific sequence to tell me what the errors are).... Suspect HDD has gone as it is just not spinning, but cannot be sure as I cannot get to BIOS or anything else..... Any ideas?

Answer:x220 Tablet will not bootup

Edited to add: I swapped hdd out and put it in identical tablet - HDD seems to work fine. Popped it back into the offending tablet, tried to switch power on and the green light around power button alternates with biometric light (on and off) for around 30 seconds and ends up with biometric light green and power light off.... Also swapped out memory - still nothing - no access to BIOS etc - no warning beeps...

The truth is I don't know whether I should get a X220 tablet or standard X220.  I just think the tablet thing could be fun when reading, sorting and editing photos, etc., and I'd still have a X220 if it turns out to be useless.  Is this a correct assumtion? =)I've seen X220 tables come with an UltraBase and a DVD-RW drive.  I'd like a setup where I have some sort of docking station at my desktop were I can attach to a larger (DisplayPort) monitor, a keyboard, scanner, etc, and quickly snap my pc out for mobile work, preferably with the option of having a DVD-drive attached.  Would a X220 tablet with the UltraBase fit in the Dock or should the UltraBase be removed first?  Can the UltraBase be seen as a portable clip-on DVD-drive or should it be regarded as an alternative to a Dock?  Or put in a use-case:  I have my X200 tablet with the UltraBase and drive.  Can I quickly click this in the Dock and continue (say) watching DVD on my monitor?  Or do I have to move all cables from the Dock to the UltraBase?  Same for standard X220?What's the max output when connected to a UltraBase and/or Dock?  Or put in a different way: Can the X220 tablet fully use a 1920x1200 monitor?  What's the max resolution?  Same for standard X220?Where can I find jucy specs like these?  The standard white paper only shows very brief defails and only for the laptop's own screen.I seems like there are two versions of the X220 tablet disp... Answer:Questions regarding X220 tablet before I buy one

1. That is "correct" but it would also be "expensive." The tablet is several hundred dollars more expensive for a feature you may never use.2. The UltraBase IS a dock. And for the tablet, it is the ONLY dock. It is technically portable but I wouldn't recommend carrying it around. As far as I know, the X220 without tablet has other options, but you wouldn't be able to use an UltraBase and a dock at the same time.3. The tablet can handle 1920x1200 and higher, but I haven't personally tested beyond 1920x1080 (my monitor is an HDTV which only goes up to 1080p). 5. The Gorilla glass is only on the outdoor model. It does not support two finger touch. Both displays have stylus input. 7. Ignoring the weight difference, the experience should be identical, although I haven't tested this myself. I would recommend against getting a tablet. I and many others are having great issue with the accuracy of the stylus input.

I want to reformat my X220 tablet. Is there anything I should be cautious of? Which drivers to install? Are all the necessary drivers for tablet use on Lenovo's website? Will I lose anything else except data? Is Thinkvantage necessary? A recommended general procedure? Thank you.

Hi. X200T running Win 7 64 bit, drivers up to date. Weird problem thats driving me nuts. Everything works fine in standard laptop mode, but when i rotate screen either 90, 180 or 270 degrees the input cursor inverts. eg. when in alternative landscape (180 degrees), if i start in the middle of the screen and move the cursor down, it goes up, and move it left , the cursor goes right. The portrait  results are even more strange - down goes left etc. Help appreciated

Just bought the satellite A200 with Vista and the following problem:
out of the blue my screen has ratated 90 degrees

how can I slove this????

Answer:Screen on Satellite A200 has rotated 90 degrees

Hi there,

it seems you have an ATI graphics card installed in your machine. The rotation is feature from your graphics card and can be reversed by going into "display properties" and changing the angle of the picture.

Just go into the display properties and then in the catalyst center. There is a option to modify the rotation settings.

If you cannot find it and need some help just ask :)

Greetings

Hello, I have a z510 laptop with Windows 8.1 installed. I just hooked my Android tablet up, and the screen in the laptop auto-rotated to Landscape.  I shut it down, and re-booted after a few minutes, and It was still rotated.  I was able to go into Intel's screen properties (Intell 4600 graphics). and was able to re-set it, by looking at the screen sideways. This is the first time that this has happened.   Is there any way to lock the screen rotation in my z510, so this doesn't happen again? Thank you.

Quickest way:Press the Windows button + O (letter) to switch between locked/ulocked screen settings. Here are other solutions:http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/30587-screen-autorotation-lock-unlock-windows-8-a.html

I have x220 table. Is this laptop available to use triple monitor with only with DisplayPort Monitor Cables?Or I need to buy extra muti display adapter?Thank you in advance.

Answer:triple display with x220 tablet

The graphics chipset in the x220 only supports two active displays, including the one in the laptop itself.  You would need a USB video adapter or similar external solution to run three displays.
