Lenovo X220 Tablet (screen just startedshowing signs of screen memory burn in...)

Question: Lenovo X220 Tablet (screen just startedshowing signs of screen memory burn in...)

This just started this morning. I noticed that if I left a browser window open for a while (particularly with a white background with black text), when I minimize the window, I can see a faint image of it left behind that fairly quickly (at least for now) fades away on it's own.

I turned off the machine, unplugged all the batteries and the power. Checked and cleaned all the connections and vents. Then powered it back up on just main battery (has nearly a full charge) played with brightness just a bit. At first it wasn't repeating the problem but quickly it's showing up again and I am extremely concerned.

I am still under warranty. Please advise. Thank you in advance - best regards.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lenovo X220 Tablet (screen just startedshowing signs of screen memory burn in...)

Updated Info: Problem only happens on the edges of the screen, a little less than an inch in from any edge, top/bottom/left/right and the problem may appear, but anything in the middle and it seems fine.

Doesn't happen if my background is set to solid black. It's slightly noticeable with a mid-grey tone and it's worse still with a mid to dark grey tone that is tinted with a purple-ish hue.

Could some other x220 owners set their bg color to a dark grey purple color, and try to see if it's just a limitation. I'm trying to determine if my hardware is failing, or if I just stumbled upon something that for most cases and purposes isn't going to be much of a bother.

Other than recently calibrating my touch and pen input, I haven't made any changes to the system. Today I installed a new intel graphics driver update from Win update but it didn't change anything.

Thank you all very much.

Color on external monitor is normal. Two pictures below will descript about symptom. The first picture is picture of the screen on Thinkpad X220T machine and the second is the picture of external monitor screen that this machine is connect to.  The question is: Is this a problem from hardware or software? If it is hardware problem. Is their has any way to check or fix this problem at first level? because I purchase it from another location( I live in Thailand). Use warranty may be ok but this machine is very important for my job and need to use for programming business every 5 days of week so remaining time is 2 days also I don't have spare system so I need to use it although it has this problem. Thank you for any advice and suggestion.

Ihave owned a Windows 7 X220 Tablet for about 3 years, but never previously ugraded the Lenovo software on it. I saw this was possible, ticked various upgrades and set it off to download and install. On restarting the screen is black - with only a flat white cursor top left. I called Lenovo who said they suspected a bios upgrade had conflicted with something else being installed at the same time (I had ticked multiple upgrades at once), and suggested Ilook and ask for help on the forum. They said they thopught I needed to roll back the bios upgrade but Idon't know how to. I run Trend Micro security suite which was not swithced off when I did the upgrade. Any suggestions at all would be really welcome as the machine is effectively dead and unusable unless I can get it back to the previous set-up. ( Isuspect there are likely to be restore  points but cannot do anything at all at present) Thanks very much    cnwlenovo 15 Feb 2015

Answer:Disaster - X220 tablet - screen black on reboot after installing Lenovo upgrades

Ihave just (after posting this request), and 2 weeks after the failed attempt to get the computer to restart, tried again with the laptop powered onto the mains - it must have completely lost battery power in the meantime, successfully rebooted into Windows, the machine installed Windows upgrqades as it booted, and restarted itself in the process. Iliterally bit my nails as this was going on - and pleased to report the macjine now seems to have opened up OKin windows. Phew!!!      Wonder if the "bad loop"it may have gotten into when Iwas tryoing to reboot several times before - resulting in black screen and white cursor top left - may have died with a complete power down. In any event Iam hugely relieved - so Lenovo upgrades were obviously "self-correcting and troubleshotting after all.... Cnwlenovo 15 February 2015

I'm no sure if this is the right section to post in, so sorry if it's not. I have a tablet computer, called an x220 tablet. I was browsing the Internet, and left for a minute, and when I came back the screen was black with a flashing white dash in the top left corner. I've turned it off, taken the battery out, and tried restarting it many times. It will go to the openIng "thinkpad" screen, then back to the black screen with flashin underbar. Please help!

Answer:x220 tablet: Not booting, just bios screen, than black screen

The Thinkpad Tablet and the X220t are two different devices. Regarding your problem, I fear that the boot sector is defective. You'll probably have to reinstall Windows.

We are having some issues with the pen touch when getting closer to the edge of the screen. The little dot-guide loses accuracy around the edges, making it frustrating to adjust clicks. Another issue is the pen gets shaky when you are closer to the edge of the screen as well. Example - it is impossibleto draw a straight line when you get closer to the screen (OneNote). We had a Toshiba Portege previously and we never had these issues. I apoligize if this is redudndant but i would like a solution. Driver update? Thanks,

The screen on my X220 Tablet has been shutting down when I rotate it from tablet to laptop positions when "Auto Rotate is enabaled.. When this happens, the only way I've found to get the screen back is to shut down and reboot.(Note: the backlight stays on, but the screen is blank and unresponsive.)I've found that by resetting the tablet utility options to "ActiveRotate" only ("Auto  Rotate" off) it seems to work.I guess it's not a big deal, but I hate it when things don't work. Any suggestions as to why, or better yet, how to fix?

Answer:X220 Tablet Screen shuts down when rotated

Hi, Jetsyfix

I'm not sure what is causing the issue, but a driver update may help. Here you can find all the possible driver updates for your system. There is a fairly recent BIOS update for your machine that may help, but I would update all drivers as needed and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

The two small rubber latches that hold the screen in place when closed have broken off my tablet. My tablet has warranty until 2015 and it hasn't been used heavily, Lenovo have said these aren't covered by the warranty. Does anyone know where I can get some replacements? The frontoffice said they come as part of 04W1783-rubber kit but when I called up the parts hotline they said it was not in that pack. Its driving me mad because the screen slides about all over the place... ANy help much appreciated

Hi, I just notice now I have a crack on the screen on my gf's x220t. She and I NEVER droped it, NEVER put pressure on the screen, NEVER put any sort of heavy objects on the laptop.  The crack is small (about 1 cm), very thin, it's hard to see but can be felt very easy when using the digitizer. Her computer also gets alot of thermal sensor failure at the begining of the boot (which can be fix by removing the battery and going into the BIOS). Can I get some help from lenovo STAFF on this. This is a 1300$ laptop. Please be resonable and don't tell me I've used it too hard. There could be a way to verify that the laptop didnt go through severe conditions and that it's a default in fabrication... Otherwise lenovos screen are made out of very cheap material. We both have a model 4294CTO x220 tablet I also made a quick video which can be found on this URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXOfVnAcYQY  Moderator Note: Edited subject to match content.

Answer:x220 tablet scratch/crack (about 1 cm, very thin) on the screen

this forum doesn't have a dedicated staff to personally troubleshoot issues.   everyone here (staff included) is here purely on a volunteer basis.   first and foremost this is a peer-to-peer forum.

with that said...

unless you have the gorilla glass model (non-multitouch), your X220T's display is polycarbonate.   based on your video, it looks like it could be a scratch in the writing surface rather than a crack, especially being along the horizontal plane and parallel with the pixel grid.   cracks tend to be more random where scratches happen most often along the X or Y plane.

have you called lenovo support about this or the thermal sensor errors?

Hello, I would like to know if the outer clear part that goes on top of the screen is the same on the tablet as on the non tablet, or does the tablet have a different surface because of the pen.  I ask because as this is not supplied with replacement screens and I need this part also as its cracked.  I have seen a whole screen assembly for sale which is off the non tablet version so was hoping this would be suitable, of course I would swap over the wacom digitizer from the rear of the broken screen. Can these be ordered separately? if so is there a part number? Thanks.

Answer:X220 tablet screen outer plexiglass surface

The multitouch version of the tablet is certainly different. The outer "glass" is actually the capacitive discharge digitizer (finger touch). Pen-touch is handled by a different digitized behind the LCD panel

I bought x220 tablet 4 days ago with multitouch (lenovo model number: 4296-2BG). Straight out of the box the touchscreen is not working in approximately 20-25% of the screen surface. The affected area is in one piece on the right-hand side (if looking in regular notebook configuration), however the most of the edges of the screen work. The touch works correctly at other parts of the screen, but on this part there are spots where I never managed to make the touch and there are spots where only sporadically and randomly I can make the touch work. The problem can be repeated no matter if the computer works on battery or on AC, no matters if it is in tablet or in notebook configuration, and no matter what the program you use. It is most clearly seen in Paint - drawing by finger goes well until you get to the part of the screen when abruptly stops and only continues when you get to the healthy part of the screen.  I spent 2 days of trying to get it wok by- calibrating touch screen- turning on and off the touch ability- trying to tweak the touch through built-in properties- installing the newest drivers from lenovo- installing the newest drivers from wacom- cleaning the screen surface with the little cleaning tissue that comes along- turning on and off wifi, bluetooth, camera, and virtually everything I could turn on/off By the way, the system is in the vanilla state - I did not install anything on it (except new drivers for touch). Just made the 'recovery disk'... Read more

Good day. I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ThinkPad X220t  with warranty for one year. The laptop came with a factory seal. When I turn on a notebook,  the operating system(win 7 Prof 64bit) automatically install. At the end of installation in device manager  all devices have been identified and worked fine.  But in computer details in the "system" was written ?No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display?. Then I installed all the drivers on a laptop from Lenovo website again and again. That did not help. Then I reinstalled windows (win 7 Prof 32bit). That did not help. Previously, I had two X200t and when I installed windows 7, the digitizer immediately was detected, for the good work of  the touchscreen it was necessary to install drivers. But the situation with the X220 for me incomprehensible. Explain what I did wrong. The type of ThinkPad printed on the back label is 4294-CTR(in BIOS the type is 4294-CTO).

Ok, I just got my screen in x220 tablet replaced. When I first usued it, I noticed that the new screen is now "rubbery" - there is no protective foil, but it just feels like there is some plastic cover over the screen, not the actual glass. Previously, the pen used to run smoothly over the screen - just like it does over glass. Now I can tell that the screen is covered in a platci/ rubber transparent layer - invisible but one you can feel by your hand or especially by the stylus. Now I want to ask you for something really silly - can you touch yours x220 tablet screen and tell me whether you feel the rubber coating or a glass? :-) I might be out of my mind, but I swear the feeling was different before. The screen that was replaced comes from the Lenovo service (repair was done under warranty) - maybe I got a screen from a different model (eg. x230?).

Ok, so the lcd is definitely multitouch , which is now a reason to concern .Basically , windows recognize it as a laptop, no hid touch input devices in device manager whatsoever. Is this a common issue? Tryed unpluging and plugging back in LCD micro cables but nothing.

Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo X220 Tablet that has touch screen and pen. They suddenly stopped working today. The LCD screen still works pefectly fine, however. The touch screen is enabled on the touch settings. When I try to calibrate, it does not detect my finger or the pen. I also noticed that when I tried to reinstall the driver and it said "a supported tablet was not found on this system". I have the most recent bios. I am running Windows 7 that came with the laptop. All windows updates completed. Is it possible for the digitizer to be defective, but the LCD screen to work perfectly fine?Could it be just a ribbon failure?Which part would need to be replaced, if this is the case? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:X220 tablet touch screen suddenly stopped working

Even though it looks like a single device, it is really 3 separate ones.  There is a basic panel.  There is a static discharge digitizer in the front to sense finger touches.  There is a second Wacom digitizer behind the panel to detect the pen.  Any of them can fail.  The wires in the cable can also crack.  Since both digitizers failed, I would first look in device manager to see if there could be a problem with a USB hub.  (digitizers both connect as USB devices.)  My next guess would be the cable.  Sorry I cannot be more definite.

Answer:Thinkpad Tablet X220 the upper glass of screen cracked a little

Hi sweetaaronm and welcome to the community,

You're probably going to have to call service to find out how much and how long it will take?  I'd do that anyway, just so you know.  It is going to be expensive.
Is there any computer repair shops locally that you trust?  I'd sit down with the phone book and make some calls.  You're going to have to know which screen you have so you can have them get the right one.

If Lenovo service has the screen in stock, the turnaround for the repair should be pretty fast.

Hello Folks, This is my first post on this forum and wanted to share my very recent experience with you and see if anyone has  a suggestion or feedback. I recently purchased a new ThinkPad X220. I got it yesterday (9/1). When I opened the box, I found that the LCD screen is cracked (there is a crack that extends from the top to the bottom of the screen with a circle in the middle as if the liquid crystal is spilled). I contacted customer service right away, and was told that I need to submit pictures of the damage before they can help me. I spoke to a supervisor who promised me a call back at 10 AM today for further assistance. It is 12:10 noon (EST), and I am still waiting for that call. I emailed the sales person, who helped me purchase the machine, to see if she can help me get a refund, or replace the machine, or at lease replace the screen. I even emailed her pictures of the damaged screen, but .... NO RESPONSE! I just spent $1029 for a computer that I can't use, and no one at Lenovo cares to help me. Any idea what should I do next?! Thanks in advance. see this link for the damaged screen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/6106115589/in/photostream/

My doughter's laptop falled down from the table what caused that the LCD is not working correctly. It lights a little bit, but stays almost dark. I checked the LCD, and it looks that the one is OK (I put it into another X220 t and it works. So it looks that there's something different broken (also I mounted the correctly working LCD from another X220 t into the one and doesnt work either). What could it be? Where should I find the reason of that? Could it be something with the motherboard or what? As mentioned before, the LCD lights a little bit, but doesn't show anything, stays dark (a little lighter than as is OFF).

Answer:Lenovo X220 tablet LCD backlight.

I'm guessing you blew a fuse on the motherboard.  They are VERY fast burning fuses and easy to blow.  Unfortunately, most places cannot fix that sort of problem without replacing the board.

Hi, I have Lenovo X61 tablet with windows XP professiona installed. I am not able to use its touch screen at all. And I cannot see the pen settings in control panel either. I have already installed the touch screen driver for it. How can I download pen settings in the control panel . any idea! cheersSumair

The tablet-specific settings are only in XP Tablet edition. But even so, the digitizer and pen should work without them on XP Pro - are you sure you installed the Wacom ISD tablet driver?

i ordered my x220t yesterday after much consideration . visually.. I HATE HOW THE BATTERY LOOKS sticking out from the bottom, i dont mind it sticking out from the back.. just not the bottom. however i do love the specs of the system. this battery needs to be worked on. so even tho i bought this system.. i call on lenovo to make a new battery for this system that is flush to the bottom of th system and offers the same battery strength as the ugly one.  i would buy that in a heartbeat. SO PLEASE!

Answer:lenovo x220 tablet 6 cell battery

Unfortunately what you're asking for isn't possible as a physically larger battery will always have a higher capacity than a larger one assuming they both use the same technology. There is a 3-cell battery for the x220t that fits flush in the x220t but of course it only has half the capacity of the 6-cell battery.

Hello, The fan in my lenovo X220 tablet stops working after awhile from turning the device on (after around 10 minutes). This causes the temperature of the processor to always be above 90 degree C (using TPFanControl V 0.61). The fan control software shows that the fan is turning at 4060 RPM, but there is absolutly no air coming out! I recently re-applied the thermal paste, and the problem (fan turning off) "might" have started after re-applying the thermal past - I did it in a local computer service shop. I tried to update the BIOS, but the battery does not work and the installation does not start (it gives me an error) because of that. I have been using my X220 for six years with no problems and I currently run windows 10. Please let me know if you have any idea on how to fix this issue.

Answer:Lenovo X220 Tablet Fan Turn Off after few minutes

There are only 2 parts involved - the fan and the motherboard.  If the fan bearing gets hot and seizes, it would spin at start-up to avoid the fan error message.  Fans are cheaper than motherboards, so if it were mine, I would try a new fan.

Windows XP Tablet Edition had to be removed from my Lenovo ThinkPad X41 tablet because the PC was issued for school, and the school-licensed software had to be removed. Now I'm running Windows XP Pro (a mistake on the school technical administrator's part?), and the touch screen no longer responds to the stylus.
I tried to contact the school technical administrator, calling to his attention that I'm no longer running Tablet Edition, which is probably necessary, but he has not responded.
I've tried installing such drivers as 7jge15ww and 913z07us, and I've run the ThinkVantage System Update several times, to no avail. Is there a driver I'm overlooking? Is it at all possible to simply USE my tablet properly without having to go out and buy Windows XP Tablet Edition?

Answer:Enable touch screen for Lenovo X41 tablet

You can get Recovery Discs from IBM is the built in Recovery partition and utility are not longer on the laptop from IBM/Lenovo by going here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4M7HWZ

If the Recovery Partition is still intact and accessible you can return to Windows XP Tablet Edition by following these instructions: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4UFUYK

Looking at the downloads I don't see a driver for the Touch Screen: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67100
When you ran the System Update utility you installed all the drivers and software/accessories updates?

My x220 tablet is haveing issues with the graphics card shutting off. I purchased my x220t about 3 months ago and I have begun to have a reacurring problem. I will be running CAD 2011, nothing 3D, and the screen will spontanneously go black. 5 seconds later, it will restart and an issue report will pop up in the bottom right and corner of the screen. This issue is a real problem since I bought this laptop for engineering and with an i5 processor, CAD sould be running fine. I did not expect the graphics card to be a limiting factor since I am only using 2D visualls right now. I have tried to find similar if others have had a similar issue but I can not find anything. What should I do? ps, I have a screen shot of the info but I am unable to post it.

Answer:Lenovo x220 tablet graphic card issue

hey jwismer, could you uninstall the current graphic driver for you unit; let windows install its generic drivers and then test your unit with your CAD software.does the same problem occur?later, head to http://support.lenovo.com and install the latest graphic driver that is available there.

According to Microsoft on this site.... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/multitouch-hardware-reqs "....If you have touch input hardware that isn't specifically designed for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, but displays the "Designed for Windows" logo for Windows 7, you'll experience touch responsiveness at least as good as it was on Windows 7...." Based on that, I upgraded my Lenovo X201 Tablet with Windows 7 (kept up to date with Lenovo's System update, and windows update, and working well), and lost the touch screen and pen abilities completely. In system manager I have an unknown device, but no Wacom device in Human Interface Devices; and in control panel I don't have either "Pen and Touch", or "Tablet PC Settings". I tried installing the W7 drivers from the Lenovo site in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and it displayed the error "No supported tablet was found". Having failed the upgrade, I proceeded to do a clean install, and had exactly the same result. Must clarify the update was to Windows 8 Pro, then all windows and Lenovo updates, and the upgrading to 8.1 from the store, and all windows and Lenovo updates again. So I'm dumbfounded. If I lost the touch ability as advertised at least as good as it was on Windows 7...., I will go back to Windows 7. I posted this on the Microsoft site, and the Microsoft Engineer said that this happens when the hardware was not realy designed for Windows 7 ... Good morning folks, Having had a Lenovo x200 tablet for a while now I've been an avid lurker to this forum but it has been my own personal laptop tradegy (lol) that has spurred me on to registering. My tablet, running Windows 7 has been running fairly well for the time that I've had it. However it now doesn't boot at all. Black screen. Registers battery, AC adaptor, bluetooth and the N light. However I don't hear any beeps, I've tried all of the tricks to reanimate the laptop that Lenovo suggests and have removed the DIMM and the laptop does the neccessary beeps, reinsert the ram and no beeps, no boot.  Is there anything I'm missing? Oh.. Possible major point relating to this: This problem occured within minutes of me downloading and installing the latest multitouch drivers for my laptop and OS from the Lenovo website. Please help, thanks in advance.

Configuration:X220 Tablet, Core i7, 320GB HDD, Added 128GB MyDigital SSD. Background:When I first installed the MyDigital 128GB mSata SSD, it installed and worked like a charm (Yesterday - 3/18/2011). I installed Windows 7 on it and it was working great. However, the computer then went into hibernate and when it woke up, it reverted to my HDD and after that point I haven't been able to boot back into the SSD. Other symptoms:* At first, the computer showed the drive properly as an SSD drive, however, now BIOS and everything else simply show it as PS3016S5.* Windows disk management utility show only 2MB on the disk. What I've tried so far:* Opened the laptop back up to make sure the drive is still connected properly.* Tried installing Firmware update S5FAM012 (from mydigital), but running the command with /SCANPORT simply said it could not find any valid SATA drive.* Tried installing firmware S5FAM015 (from mydigital), but the UI keeps showing me the error message: "Failed!!! Not Running on Flash Normal Code now!! - FBO" Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm stuck not being able to use my 128gb SSD at all.

Hello, I am a first-time Lenovo owner. I recently purchased an x200 Tablet and I am putting it through it's paces and getting it tweaked to my liking. Seeing as this has a touch screen, what is the best way to clean the screen? I searched the forum for suggestions for cleaning the tablet screens but there was only a limited amount of information and the information that was available applied to the x61 tablet. Since I'm not sure if the screens have changed in that sense since the x61 I'm posting the question here. I'm also wondering how to clean the rest of the computer. My first inclination is to use alcohol swabs (not for the screen since it's a solvent) but what do you think about that for the rest of the computer (case, bezel, keyboard, etc.) Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer:New, first-time Lenovo owner- Best way to clean x200 Tablet screen?

I use tap water and a soft paper towel to clean  smudges from the monitor screen, then I wipe thoroughly with a fine microfiber cloth.   For the rest of the computer, I wipe gently with a damp cloth and, from time to time, shoot the keyboard with compressed air.  Ken

I just bought an used Lenovo Horizon 27 inch "tablet", and I can't make the touch screen work. Browsing the internet, I noticed there are different pictures of the Horizon 2.Question: are there different variants of the Horizon 2 and does some variants do not have a touch screen? I've tried looking for drivers and there are no drivers for the touch screen. The warranty just expired on 8/15, so I have no help from tech support. I have opened the unit in hopes of finding an easy fix in loose cables or connections, and everything looks plugged in. Now, I'm coming to the sneaky suspicion that I have a Horizon 2 unit that does not have a touchscreen - it that right? Does anybody know anything about this?

I have a client that says the little circles that come up every time he touches the screen is giving him a headache.  Does anyone know how to shutoff the response of the pen each time it touches the screen,  but still have the pen work? Thanks.

Answer:X220 Pen touch on screen: How to disable the circles that show when the pen has touched the screen

You need to disable the cricles that appaers after touching the screen, there is no such option, I would suggest you to please perform the workarounds.

1.To remove fingerprints, etc., from the touch panel display, use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth or a piece of absorbent cotton. Do not apply solvents to the cloth.2. Gently wipe foreign particles and dust from the touch panel with one side of the cloth.3. Wipe smudges or fingerprints with the other side of the cloth, or with a clean cloth.4. After using the cloth, wash it with a neutral detergent.

After this, please check if the issue resolved.

Regards,
Sameer

Nothing appears on the screen when booting the computer from a powered off state. Not even the Thinkpad spash screen appears on the display when I press power. The backlight appears to come on but the display is still mostly black. So the LCD cables are at least partially connected. I doubt it was related since it was a driver, but the last thing I did in Windows was update the Wacom drivers since the pen was not tracking correctly in slate mode. This is what I triedPressed Fn+Home a few times then Fn+End a few times. The backlight increased in brightness but the display was still mostly black. Pull the AC power and the battery. Press the power button a couple times to discharge lingering charges in the capacitors. Installed the AC power only, then pressed power. Still nothing. Powered up the system then pressed the blue ThinkVantage button immediately. A single beep was heard but nothing on screen. Plugged system into a monitor with a VGA (D-Sub) connector and set the monitor to VGA input. Nothing appeared on the screen. Pressed Fn+F7 a couple times on the tablet to see if it was set to a different output for some reason. Repeated with another monitor with displayport. Again nothing on the tablet display. Pulled the RAM, booted with no RAM. No beeps. Reseated RAM and powered up, nothing on screen. I don't have any 1333 MHz DDR3 laying around. I also traded RAM with a known good system in my inventory at work. Is there a key sequence to rese... Read more

Answer:X220 blank screen at boot, not even POST spash screen

You should've gotten beep codes when you booted without ram.  That's not a good sign.,

There isn't any key code that I know of to reset the bios without actually being in the bios.

The old procedure for ThinkPads was to take out everything that is in a slot, hard drive, RAM, wireless card and modem, battery and unplug the ac adapter and hold the power button down for 30 seconds and then put just the ac adapter back in and push the power button and see what happens.  If you get beep codes, put 1 stick of ram in and hit the power button again.  If nothing, take out that ram stick and put another one in and try it again.  Try it in different slots.  See if the bios splash screen comes up.  If it comes up, start putting components back in one at a time and rebooting each time until it doesn't.  Save the hard drive for last.

Are any of your indicators lit and does the fan come on when you hit the power button?

It sounds like you already tried most of that, but that's the only thing left to try that I can think of.

Answer:X220T - Rotating Screen To Tablet Causes Screen/Display To Flake Out / Distort

It sounds to me like a loose connection inside the ThinkPad.  Since this happens at the BIOS splash screen, it cannot possibly be a software/driver problem.  I would recommend calling support to get warranty service about it.

Answer:dollar signs on start up screen

If it runs ok in safe mode, I would try to scan the system for a virus or spyware and make sure it is clean. Have you tried to make sure that your memory moduels are seated correctly. They can become insecure. If it had been a virus though, you would of seen the problem straight away after your restart. So I would guess it is a hardware problem more than a virus. Sorry I cannot be more helpfull.

Hey guys, tonight I started getting $ signs all over the screen after the Asus motherboard splash screen during post. The strange thing is that I just started the computer. I was not using it at all and it was off since Friday night.

After windows boots, I login then I get squares of varying colors on the screen. green purple, etc...

sometimes I get a message from windows that the nvidia driver has recovered for a crash but the screen keeps flickering and i got the squares everywhere.

all is good in safe mode.

I removed the drivers and had windows detect the card on its own but the issue persists.

I also got a couple blue screens while this was happening, could a faulty video card cause blue screens?

Could a virus target video card drivers?

The strange thing is that it was all fine Friday. No issues at all and suddenly this started to happen. and all last week I was playing games such as crysis and boarderlands with no issues at all.

System specs:
P5K|Q6600 G0|4GB DDR2-800|3.5TB|8800GT|Audigy2|HX620|Cosmos 1000|V2400W|Windows 7 64-bit

I never over-clocked the 8800gt.

Its a bfg 8800gt and I'm suspecting it is the video card, am I right?

Thanks for the help.

Okay, so I need an application to do this for work. We just got a nice LCD that will be displaying a monitoring tool all the time, and we don't want anything to get burned in (Can this even happen with LCDs?) Anyway, the obvious solution is to do what alot of plasma displays already do: orbit the image around the screen ever so slightly, so that it's not always in the same spot. The problem is, I've only found one program to do this, and it costs $30 (Powerstrip). Anybody know of any free utilities to do this?

Answer:Preventing screen burn-in without a screen saver

I'm not sure of anything else, but in the least... powerstrip is a great program to have in general. Not just for that feature, but for a moltitude of other features for tv out, resolution, image adjustment etc. it's well worth $30 imo.

Hi,

I have Lenovo z500 Touch version.

My first question: Is there an option to turn off the touch screen? It takes a lot off battery and i rearly use it.

The second issue:
I have 8 GB of RAM memory, the constent state is about 45% memory use.
when I look at the task manager and I calculate the precentge of use by different processes and the amout of space they take in MB it looks like I have only 4 GB of memory.

For exemple, 800 MB use by the anti-virus is translated to almost 20%, somthing dosent end-up right.
I checked the hardware in Everset and in thesettings and they both showes 8GB

IS IT POSSIBLE?

Answer:Lenovo z500 - High memory usege+turn off the touch screen

hi SolFine,

Welcome to the Forums.

There's no feature to turn OFF/ON the touchscreen but you can try to disable it via the Device Manager > Human Interface Devices (there are usually 2-3 entries here and one of them controls the Touchscreen > right click on it and choose disable)

As for the RAM usage, can you try open System Properties (Winkey+I > PC Info) and check the Installed RAM area,
- Link to picture

If it says 8GB (4.xx usable), the RAM is most likely being allocated to the Integrated Graphics Processor.

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

I have a new X220 Tablet, and the Pen and Tablet functions work perfectly out of the box as long as the unit is on the Ultrabase. As soon as I remove from the Ultrabase (or boot while not connected), the Pen & Tablet functions stop working. Conversely, if I dock the X220, the Pen & Tablet functions begin working again. The behavior is the same regardless of whether I have an external monitor attached or not. Any thoughts?

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

I just bought my Yoga 2 13, when I flip it to Tablet mode, the screen turns off. Apparently it goes to sleep. When I open it it turns on again. Do I need to do any adjustments? or is this a defect?

Answer:Yoga 2 13 Tablet Screen turns off when in Tablet Mode

Try updating your drivers first: http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-2-13-notebook-l...If that does not help, try a factory reset:1. Turn off your Yoga 2 132. Press the tiny button next to the power button on the right3. Follow instructions to perform a factory resetIf none of the above attempts have helped you, it is probably a hardware issue.

I am trying to figure out what is going on with my mom's laptop. Two days ago she told me she was using her laptop and everything was fine, but then she left to do some things in the kitchen and came back a bit later to the screen off. Upon waking it up by moving the mouse, all she got was a black screen with a white cursor. I have looked at it and upon manually restarting, it shows the Windows 10 logo, and then it goes to the black screen with the cursor. There is no login screen either but I do also hear the welcome music. One thing I noticed though is the cursor does have the blue loading circle next to it like it is actually still doing something, and it flashes and spins now and then, as well as the computer sounding like its working, but I have left this on for almost 40 minutes now and it is still just a black screen. It sometimes goes to the off screen and have to move the mouse to wake it up again. Some people online suggest task manager and opening up other windows but nothing works, I can just move a cursor.

My first thought is it is doing something with updates so I figured I will let it be for a few hours while in the mean time I will post this question to see if anyone else has any ideas. The laptop had Windows 7 before and we upgraded to 10 months ago.

Answer:Laptop boots up to black screen with cursor, shows signs of activity.

Update:

Turns out it wasn't doing updates as pressing the power button makes it go to sleep and space bar can wake it up, still black screen. So I went into the windows recovery tool and startup repair does nothing and system restore failed (which to me screams messed up, though there was only one point I could even choose). So I restarted and it ran a disk check but when I came back it said nothing was wrong, so now I am in the process of returning to the last build. I am not sure what that even means (I assume update) but it has been stuck on "restarting" for the past 20 minutes, but I will let it run for a few hours just in case.

Has anyone come across a problem with PEN input not being available at boot but becoming available when you disable and re-enable the HID component.  As soon as you shut the machine down and restart PEN input once again unavailable.  Windows event logs contains no error message in relation to hardware or drivers and none of the devices show and issues in device manager.Any help would be appreciated.

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... Its a hardware problem of some description. A technician would need to assess it. If its not even getting close to the boot process.Call Lenovo Tech Support who may advise you on something.

Hi Guys

I have a modern Samsung Tablet and a Smart TV Soniq E55V13A.

I am looking to get my tablet screen onto my TV. My tablet allows mirroring but the TV does not.

How do I make this happen, preferably wirelessly (I dont really want to have to buy more leads). Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Get Tablet Screen Onto Tv Screen (wirelessly)???

Doesn't sound easy but these guides may help - as long as the Tablet is Android and from specs that TV is too and they both have WiFi:
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/google-android/how-connect-android-tv-summary-3533870/
http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/how-to-mirror-smartphone-tv/
Ignore the first two sections about wired connections. Looks like you will have to BUY Chromecast or Miracast.

Hi there - New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least). Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.

Answer:On Screen Keyboard Glitch in Tablet Mode - On Screen Keyboard minimizes / disappears / slides down

I am also having this issue - I did the refresh (which really sucked, since I already had Office and all kinds of other applications installed) because I couldn't even open PC setting, and now the on-screen keyboard is having the same issue. I am about one more glitchy issue away from returning this computer. Between the two finger scrolling disabling, this glitchy on-screen keyboard, and some touch screen issues, I don't know if I can justify a thousand dollars on it.

For some reason known only to my M7 the arrow and ESC keys under the screen have started to type numbers instead of pressing the arrow keys as expected. i have checked in the settings for these and they are correct.

Pressing left i get: 3
pressing up i get: 2
pressing right i get: 4
pressing down i get: 1
pressing the button in i get: 5
pressing the ESC button i get: 6

these buttons always used to work but have since starting outputting numbers instead of the chosen arrow keys. i get the same number printed regardless of orientation so in primary portrait i still get the same numbers but left is still left as regards the primary landscape.

Hope someone can help me with this weird problem.

Gavin

Answer:Tecra M7: Tablet buttons producing numbers - wrong signs

Hi

I assume it happens because you have enabled the FN+F11 option. This option allows using the small grey signs and numbers which are also placed on some keyboard keys.

I think you have disable this option by pressing FN+F11 again and the keyboard should shows properly the letters

Hello, I opened up the lid to my x220 for the ten thousandth time to find it cracked. It still sends a signal to it, but its all jumbled on the panel. 1. Whats the best screen I can get for my lovely machine? ebay link would be helpfull!2. Can I replace only the panel if going from tn to ips, or do I need the chip as well? Thanks for your help!

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Best Screen for X220?

It's a direct swap, just trash the old TN panel and put one of the following ones:

- LP125WH2-SLB1- LP125WH2-SLB3 - LP125WH2-SLT2

I'd recommend the SLT2 and SLB3, the SLB1 had a common case of ghosting/retention issues.

Unfortunately I have no eBay links, just make sure that the sellers offer an exact model of any of the shown above and not a "compatible" one.

I have looked through the board and also seen this issue mentioned previously in this thread, where the OP also mentioned other users with this issue. I don't have much hope for a resolution, but I thought I'd post just in case someone would be able to provide additional insight. I purchased my U410 (no touch) in the Lenovo Outlet about 1.5 years ago refurbished, and it was working like a dream for the most part until this incident. I noticed yesterday evening that as I was using Chrome, my computer began to slow down drastically between switching tabs in the browser and applications on the bar, until the computer completely froze. Thinking it was just a regular crash, I held down the button for 30+ at which time the screen did not darken. After leaving it for a couple of minutes, I tried again and pulled out the power outlet and it finally powered down. When I powered the computer up again, the screen was backlit and I could hear the fans running, but no visual output. I also do not see the Lenovo logo screen, so I have no option to boot to BIOS. Troubleshooting already performed:I have performed the following troubleshooting tests:- Powering on / off- Powering off after disconnecting the power source / powering on with the source plugged in Troubleshooting not already performed:- BIOS, because I cannot see the Lenovo screen on startup- taking out the battery, because it is encased in the back, so I would have to take th... Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Try unplugging the charger and then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.  After you are done then plug in the charger if needed and see if the laptop will power up normally.

If it didn't, anything else beyond what I mentioned above will require the opening of the back of the computer and the removal of various hardware components to try and remedy the problem.  If you are looking into your credit card's extended warranty then further disassembly of the laptop may not be something you wish to do.

For local service on your laptop try the locator website.  After entering in your city and checking the box for Warranty Service Provider you can then search for a local Lenovo authorized service repair center near you.  Just use this link to find a local facility.....

I am using G410 lenovo laptop. Windows 8.1I always use 'Power Button' to hibernate cos it's start and switch off much faster.I always use AC adapter and only use battery when necessary. It's was working fine until a few days ago when I press power button, and nothing is on screen, totally black and blank. Sometimes I only see the word "lenovo" then blank / black screen.1) What I did was hold the power button for a long time till it power off, then I waited for 5 mins then power on, few days ago that worked, but last night it didn't.I kept doing the same thing last night but it didn't work, I also tried just pressing the power buttton and waited and I felt it went to hibernate, cos I've done that a billion times. So, I figured it was the display problem.2) Today, I decided to plug the VGA cable to my desktop monitor and thank God, it showed my laptop screen on my desktop monitor, so I am very sure something is up with my laptop screen. What I did was to restart the laptop and thank God again, the display came out on my laptop, so then...3) I change the "what the power button will do", I've selected "Shut down" instead hoping that if it shuts down and power up my display will show.Question:Will I have to get my laptop monitor checked?Should all data in my laptop should also be backed up?cos I will need to buy a big external hard disk now.. It sounds like either the LCD cable or Backlight are needing to be checked, and possibly replaced.  This is not somthing most users can easily accomplish and would require the unit be sent to a service center for diagnosis and repair.

I would advise contacting Lenovo Support via phone and determine the nearest service center that you can use, then get a quote.

My kid has been using this laptop and loved it, but mentioned a while ago it was difficult to power it back on after turnned it off. However she managed to work around by putting it in hibernate/sleeping mode only, or recycling the system many times (by holding on power button to force it off). The issue was black screen (no Lenovo logo) but computer was on. I didn't pay much attention because she can still make it work, and I was too busy. Last week, there was a windows update (again) and the computer was forced recycle. It never comes back alive again. The same, computer is humming, but no any visual output on screen, just black. Tried novo button, bootable USB, external monitor, all no use. Check the warranty, just over by 2 months! Asked the service store, to fix will cost at least $200-$300 to replace the motherboard! It does not make sense when spent a bit more could buy a new notebook. But my kid liked it and it does not make sense to throw it away either, when it still looks pretty new and only being used very lightly (schoolwork only). It is sad, especially the brand has been gainning my trust. I probably don't expect a "good" solution either from Lenovo or community, but just throw my frustration here (only because have just registered the account and there is no support email or web form). Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of all the problems.  Here are a couple of things to try........

First, try a reset of the BIOS.  The procedure can be useful in resolving some hardware conflicts which your computer may have.  Just do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If you are comfortable working inside your laptop. try this........

Try the reset again with the battery removed.

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then you may have a failed piece of hardware preventing the bootup. Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive, memory, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. Now try to power up the stripped laptop. With all the hardware removed you should have lights come on and it may possibly beep since there is no memory installed. If the laptop is showing signs of life start adding hardware one piece at a time starting with a memory module and boot up the laptop. If it doesn't power up try the memory in the other slot. Also try the other memory module separately in both slots if two are available. If it is still showing signs of life add another piece and boot. Do this for each item until it doesn't power up again. The last piece of hardware installed is your problem part.

I recently went into the ThinkVantage System Update feature provided by Lenovo and installed 10 recommended updates. Should not have blindly trusted Lenovo on that. Now, when I log in, I get a welcome page with the finger print log on prompt. It says I can ctrl-alt-delete for the logon password prompt, but that only gives me the admin account I used to install the updates. I have another account for my son that I am not sure I can log into anymore. I am not happy that a recommended update would have changed the way my laptop works so drastically. I want to have the original Windows XP welcome screen back with the user icons. I have an x200 tablet running windows XP. When I go into the User Accounts under My Computer to "change the way users log on or off", it says that and  "fast user switching" has been disabled and I need to uninstall the program responsible. The possible program is ATGinaHook.dll Any help is appreciated. JoseMessage Edited by heyjose on 07-12-2009 02:22 PMMessage Edited by heyjose on 07-12-2009 02:23 PM
