Question: Using external ThinkVision with X230 Tablet in UltraBase Series 3

Is there any possibilty to close the cover when the X230 Tablet is in the UltraBase Series 3 connected to a thinkVision? As soon as I close the cover, the monitor gets dark and the X230 Tablet is going to stand-by mode which is not what we hoped for ... Please help!!! Thank you very much!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am in the process of upgrading my X200 Tablet to the X230T. I had the ultrabase with the X200T with the following accessories Serial Ultrabay Slim DVD Multi (P/N 42T2515) and the ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter II (P/N 43R1984). I have yet to talk with anyone at Lenovo or read anywhere online if these two accessories with be compatible with the Thinkpad Series 3 Ultrabase. Does anyone have any further information. I would hope I would not need to purchase these again.

Answer:X230 Tablet Ultrabase Compatibility

they use the same type of connector and slots, so it should be compatible in that regard.

Just a warning to x230 tablet owners considering the ThinkPad Ultrabase Series 3 (0A33932). The displayport on the ultrabase seems to be less capable than the displayport on the x230 itself. 1. The Ultrabase displayport does NOT support YCbCr coding, the x230 displayport does. 2. The Ultrabase displayport does NOT support audio output, the x230 displayport supports full 7.1 channel sound. This is at least the case under windows 8 x64 and using startech DP2HDMI2 displayport to hdmi adapter. If there is a way to get YCbCr or sound out of the ultrabase displayport I have not found it. Is it possible the ultrabase port is not a DP++ port? The port on the x230 is definately DP++

I bought an Ultrabase Series 3 for my x230 which runs windows 10. The optical drive works, the audio works, I have not tested the HDMI, but the USB ports do not work at all. I assume the problem is that I need drivers for the USB 3.0 slots. I have been all over the Lenovo support site, but find nothing. Either I missed it, or Lenovo has decided not to support them,  Perhaps somebody else has had this problem and has solved it? I did find drivers listed for download at an alternate site, but my AV software indicated that there is a virus in the download.

Hi. I'm posting this here as the ultrabase is meant only for the x series. I'm thinking of grabbing the ultrabase together with the x230, as it would be much cheaper this way.I will probably use it 80% of the time in the office, 8-10 hrs a day, 5-6 days a week. Would love the output to a big monitor, ext keyboard. The ultrabase dock seems to be a nice solution. But I'm also very extremely **bleep** about heat... especially with my long-usage patterns. Are there enough clearance between the x230 and the ultrabase for air to flow sufficiently? I am also considering using the USB 3.0 Dock (part no. 0A33970)http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...for connection instead, and have a good cooling pad below the x230. Any thoughts or suggestions? Much appreciated thanks

Answer:X230 and the ultrabase (Series 3): Enough clearance below for ventilation?

Hey Jame5,

I have a X230 with thinkpad ultrabase series 3 here at work and was wondering what I could do to provide any information that would help you make a more informed decision. I would be more then happy to run any test you want or heating tests that could help you out. I love this X230 and the docks is great, yet the clearance is not enough to say see the light from one side from the other or really provide any really lanes for air flow. I have had no heat issues but like I said I can run heat monitor to tell you readings if you want over a period of time.

Best Regards,

Good morning, I have a X230 with win7, when a users docks it after being a sleep for extended time, it wont wake up. She has to undock, turn it on, shut it down, then dock it and then it will work. I have updated power drivers, windows is up to date, not sure what else to do. Any advice? Oh yea, to make troubleshooting easier, the bloody problem is also intermitten, yay!

I have no clue what happened but I have 2 office setups with docking stations, same hardware. Lenovo X230 Laptop (integrated graphics)Ultrabase Series 3 Docking Station (1 VGA, 1 Displayport) The difference though is at the office I have a DisplayPort monitor connected directly ot the dock and a VGA Monitor. At Home, I have a VGA monitor and Displayport to HDMI Adapter connected to the dock. Both were working at one point. All of a sudden, nothing plugged in the Displayport is being recognized by Windows in both office setups. I cannot even choose the monitor, and the monitor says no signal is coming. I need to get this fixed. The only monitor that always works is the laptop monitor and VGA, nothing pluggin in displayport is generating a signal in both setups listed above. Any ideas?

Answer:X230 with Ultrabase Series Base 3 - Dual Monitor Problems

Hi, sprasad03

There are a few software and driver updates available for your machine (found here), but I think your issue is hardware-related. It could either be that the DisplayPort port on the machine is no longer working, or it could be that the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter has died. If possible, I would test both components on their own and see if either of them fail.

Hope it helps,
Adam

We bought two X230 Tablets for two Professors of our University and I'm responsible for getting them ready to use. Unfortunately the DVD burner isn't recognized in the UltraBase Series 3 that we intended to use together with the X230. I tried it with both of the UltraBase units, with both X230 Tablets and with both DVD burner. Did we buy the wrong devices? Is there any driver necessary? The DVD burner is not listed at all in the device manager (Windows 7), not even with missing driver. I can't open the disc tray and the LED is not on. Please help!!!

Hi there, I am trying to figure out if ulatrabase 3 is good enough to have X230 running two external monitors without shutting down its own screen. I know I can use the VGA and miniDP on X230 to output onto two external monitors, but that way, X230's own screen wouldn't work. I dont know if an ultrabse 3 can do the trick. The lenovo salesman on the phone said that I can connect two external monitors with the X230 screen on if both external signal output are of the same type. ie, use both VGA ports on X230 and Ultrabase, or both DP(miniDP) on X230 and Ultrabse. But If mixed using VGA and DP ports , then the X230 screen need to be off. Is that correct? I have seen people talking about 2 external monitors with X230, but is there anyone succeed with 2 external + internal LCD? if so, how?

Answer:Ultrabase 3 with X230, 2 external and 1 internal monitors

i haven't tried this myself. But if you use both the DP on the Ultrabase, and the miniDP on the laptop itself, this should allow the internal screen to work. If you really need 2 external + 1 internal, get the series 3 plus dock with 2 x DP + 2 x DVI-D.

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I just got my ultrabase a couple days ago and this happened twice today.  I came back from class and docked the laptop while it was asleep.  I resumed the laptop using the power button on the ultrabase and I could see the login screen but it was flickering very badly.  So I opened the laptop (which stopped the flickering) and logged in.  Once logged in, I closed the lid, but the screen flickered even worse and I was only able to see the top 5% of my desktop.  When I opened the lid, the flickering stopped. Does anyone know what's causing this?  Are there drivers I need for the ultrabase?

I have a microphone that works only as such, with no speaker and is not a headset.  I am trying to get it to work with my Lenovo x230 Tablet laptop.

When I plug it into the 3.5mm port on the right side next to the Ethernet input nothing happens and it doesn't show up in my windows sound or do anything except change the top left port under "Analog System" from gray to black.  Unfortunately that is the audio port not the microphone port.  This is shown by the next two pictures.Microphone not plugged in:

I'm looking for another Thinkpad, and I'd really like to go with a tablet (I like my x61t!) but I'd really need to be able to drive multiple external monitors. Can any of the X-series tablets drive more than one external display? (That is, two "real" monitors, not counting the tablet display.) I do not need the tablet display to be active at the same time -- just two external displays running at 1280x1024 or higher resolution.  Using a dock / port replicator is perfectly acceptable (and actually preffered, but not necessary). I'm aware of adapters for usb->vga/dvi and the Matrox DualHead2go, but I'd like to stay with lenovo hardware/docks/DisplayPort adapters if possible.  (I'm running linux, so driver support for things like the uv+ 16 and dualhead2go is a  big unknown.) Thanks!

Answer:X-series tablet with multiple external monitors

This should be possible with one monitor connected to the VGA output on the laptop and the other to the DisplayPort output in the UltraBay, but I can't confirm it since I don't have the UltraBay.DualHead with Linux (Arch Linux and Fedora 10/11), the internal and one external monitor (VGA) works flawlessly using xrandr.

Question: x230 ultrabase

Hello, I would like to buy an x230 with an ultrabase docking station containing a DVD player. From Ultrabase series 3 page[1] there is no mention of x230 compatibility. And from "customize & buy" that docking station had "for X220 Tablet only" notice (seems it got removed recently, but it is still in the French webpage). So is that ultrabase compatible with x230 afterall?? My 2nd question is about the ultrabase's DVD device: I currently have one in my x200s' ultrabase[2] and I'm wondering if the same device can be transfered from the old ultrabase to the newer one. Regards,Xavier Claessens. [1] http://shop.lenovo.com/us/itemdetails/0A33932/460/6D6BA2100E444BD7956CBA9014F9E418#learnMore[2] http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70299

We've just received new X230s in work, shipped with Ultrabase. While the laptop itself seems fine, we are having troubles with the Ultrabase. The Ultrabase works normally after computer startup, but we are having troubles with undocking/redocking the laptop. The symptoms are:When the undock button is pressed (either in Start menu or the hardware button on the ultrabase), the "Computer is successfully undocked" message appears almost instantly. This contrasts with behavior of X200 ultrabase that I was using before X230.If I undock and redock the laptop, the USB ports do not work and the red light on the ultrabase does not light up.If I wait several minutes before undocking the laptop after pressing the undock button, the USB stops working. If I then physically undock the laptop and redock it, all works as expected, including USBs.Sometimes, if I undock the computer right after the message that I may do so and then redock it and wait for some time, a message like "USB 2.0 MTT HUB Controller cannot be ejected undocked" appears and then the USB ports start working again. Needless to say that this issue is very annoying and kind of defeats the purpose of having the dock, since one cannot quickly and reliably disconnect/reconnect the laptop to external devices. One more point - I've reinstalled the shipped Windows installation by the Windows 7 Enterprise edition (64bit) available in my work, but there are no yellow exclamation marks in device manager, hence I do... I have a simple question, but the answer is not obvious (to me anyway) from checking the Lenovo product detail pages. Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase 3 with the X230 docked and the lid closed, so not using the built-in X230 display at all? And if so, what mixes are allowed between VGA and DVI? The product feature page for Ultrabase says it has both VGA and Display Port outputs.  It doesn't say whether both can be used at once.  And the link to the supported monitor configurations from that page just goes to a general page with a ton of info on docking solutions, but nothing on that page gets you to a list of monitor configurations.  Duh. Any help is appreciated.

The optical drive in my ultrabase is not visible in BIOS or Windows.  It has worked fine in the past, although I do not use it very often.  BIOS boot menu is not showing the optical drive.  Pushing physical eject button on the drive does nothing.  It is as if the drive is not getting power.  I was able to fit the "slim" DVD multi drive in my T430 and it works fine.  So the issue is definitely in the ultrabase. Any thoughts on further diagnostics or power settings I have somehow missed or messed up causing the base to not see the DVD drive? Thank you.

I am having a strange issue with my X230 when docked in the UltraBase 3.  This seems to have started in the last month  so I suspect either recent BIOS or driver issue. Displayport video output sometimes fails to go to my external montior (Samsung S22A460 via Displayport to DVI adapter) If I turn on the X230 and immediately log on, the external monitor works great.  But if I turn on the machine, walk away for a few minutes and then come back to actually Ctrl-Alt-Del and log on, the external monitor gets no signals. I can log on to the X230 and it works fine with its own display.  Undocking and re-docking does not start the external monitor.  Restarting the X230 in the dock does not fix it.  Full shut down  followed by power up will get the X230 to detect the external monitor again. If the machine + monitor combo starts and works it keeps working.  The machine can go to power save mode and dim or turn off the monitors.  Both the internal and external will come back on after waking the machine. If the external monitor fails to get output at first startup, the only way to get it working is full shutdown and power up.

I got an X220 Tablet, and so far the only ill-conceived design fad of mine has to do with the ethernet port location (in combination with 'laptop mode' and having a right-handed mouse thing going on...). I'm looking into the ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3, but I've yet to find detailed pics of where the actual ports are located. Can anyone help/provide some pictures or perhaps a video?

Answer:ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 info?

Howdy, All ports are located on the back like a traditional dock.  So, if you're sitting in front of the machine, NOT looking at the back, the ports are as follows from left to right; power, ethernet, Display port, VGA port, Audio jacks, 4 USB ports in a horizontal line. Personally, I was supremely disappointed that the X220 fits the series 3 mini dock, but the X220T doesn't.  I wanted the DVI port.  Oh well...  Hope this helps...

Hi, I have a ThinkPad Ultrabase Series 3 that I have used for the past 12 months with my X220T. I have purchased an  X230T now and placed in to the same Ultrabase Series 3. Everything seems to work EXCEPT I don't get any audio through the speaker out port in the docking station. Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone let me know if it works on their setup? Thanks AnthonyT61P,R400, W500, W510, X220T, X230T

I have a simple question, Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase series 3 with the X230 docked and the lid open? My goal is to be able to see basically 3 displays. The main one would be the laptop and the other two extended monitors connected to the dock stations. One connected with VGA cable and the other with display port cable. Any help is appreciated.  Sebastiano

Connecting my T400 (Windows 7) to my new Thinkvision L2251X montior through the VGA cord supplied with the monitor results in poor quality display, when connected either directly or through the advanced minidock.  I have not had this problem with my previous display (Thinkvision 1951).  I have checked to be sure that the t400 output is set for 60 hz and  1440 x 900 (the preferred "native" resolution that matches the monitor).  I have spent a month trying a variety of options including other resolutions and changing the dpi, but nothing improves the display.  I'd be grateful for any suggestions!

Answer:T400 and blurry external monitor (ThinkVision L2251x)

a 22 inch LCD would usually have the preferred resolution of 1680 x 1050... not the 1440 x 900 which is used in your 19 inch widescreen LCD.

I am using Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software. The proper microphone and connection are extremely important for accuracy. I've just learned that the port that a microphone is plugged into his very important. It is strongly suggested that microphones not be plugged into a USB hub, and the very best to be plugged into is actually USB port number one. How do I find out which physical USB port is connected to what port number?  And my question is not only on the X61 tablet, but also the ultrabase unit that I'm docked into. Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

Answer:How do I know the USB port number on tablet and ultrabase?

ultrabase's usb are actually expansion usb or usb hub if you like to it, so it won't be port number one. The usb ports on the laptop are directly connected to the motherboard, so for all intents and purpose are all primary usb ports.

Hello,I am new to the Thinkpad Tablet community, so please bear with what may be a simple question. When I connect the tablet to the Ultrabase, the battery on the tablet continues to run down (despite having plugged the AC power into the base.) I had assumed that the base would somehow communicate with the tablet and charge the battery (or at least provide power so it did't continue to wear down.) Thanks for any guidance.

Answer:Ultrabase/tablet power situation

You are correct in that the Ultrabase should charge the tablet.   I would troubleshoot by first checking to see if you have a proper power source into the Ultrabase.   Open up the tablet and look for the green light that lights up when the tablet is connected to a power source, if it never lights up when in the Ultrabase then you may have a power source issue due to one of several reasons: Be sure you have a proper electrical connection, works for other devices (such as a light) for that same plug or power strip. Be sure the tablet is properly seated on the Ultrabase and completed flush with the surface.   You should hear a click when the connector on the Ultrabase connects with the connector on the bottom of your tablet.   Be sure your Ultrabase AC adapter and cable work properly by borrowing another one from the same type of Ultrabase if available.  Also might be helpful to test your tablet on another Ultrabase if available.   Sometimes the Lenovo authorized service centers will let you test out components, if you have a ticket from the Lenovo help desk (my first contact point for some issues.) Message Edited by ctoys on 07-02-2008 12:18 PM

I am trying to find out if X220T could support running two Dell UltraSharp U3011 (or other similar 2560x1600) displays at native resolution. There are a couple of areas where this can go wrong:1) The X220 DisplayPort would have to be operational alongside Ultrabase DisplayPort. Is it possible to run both DisplayPorts, or is it either one or the other?2) Onboard video of X220 would have to support 2x 2560x1600. Specifications indicate that it should be able to run one display at that resolution, but would it be capable of working with two? Does anyone have an idea on whether this setup would work?

I've tolerated this issue for way too long, but now that I use the X230t as my only work computer, the value of the docking station has become apparent.  But it turns out it's not all rainbows and unicorns.  If I use the dock's DisplayPort, the dock ethernet is disabled. If I unplug the dock's DisplayPort and use the laptop's DisplayPort, the dock ethernet works and the laptop ethernet is disabled.  It doesn't make sense that I can't leave all the peripherals connected to the dock so I can undock freely. Is there a known fix for the dock's DisplayPort disabling the dock ethernet?  X230t 3435-22U with 16GB RAMDock base FRU 04W6468 Ultrabase Series 3

Hello Everyone, I want to get an ultrabase for my X230T so that I can drive dual 2560x1440 monitors using the built-in displayport plus the ultrabase' displayport.  Lenovo does not seem to sell them directly anymore, so I am looking through ebay.  I have found a few different part numbers.  One is 0A86464, which seems to have a corresponding FRU P/N 04W1420..  I have also found  0B67692 with a corresponding FRU P/N 04W6846. I can not figure out what difference, if any, there is between them, though the second part does seem to be cheaper on ebay. Can anyone tell me the difference?

I am running Windows XP on the X61 Tablet with Ultrabase.  In my classroom, I routinely am connected to a TV set as my secondary display in extended desktop mode, with the TV display rotated 180 degrees so that I can view the tablet (docked) and the students see a different view via the TV.   When I attempt to change to notebook + monitor clone instead of extended desktop for those rare occasions where we need to view the same thing at the same time, I get the BSOD.  In fact, I cannot change ANY display settings (other than my wallpaper) while docked.  Of course, I don't have the option to alter the TV's settings when undocked because the system doesn't recognize a secondary display. Occasionally, I also get BSOD when docking/undocking regardless of the procedure followed, but this seems to be a "hit and miss" problem. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I just got my ultrabase today so I plugged it in right away.  Just now I noticed that the fan on the computer has been all the time and pushing hot air out of the vents.... it never used to do that before without the dock and I'm kinda worried about the ventilation on this thing... Answer:x200 ultrabase: heat/ventilation problem with my x201 tablet?

notebooks do tend to run a little hotter when they're on a base.  your temps while running all that stuff is bordering on being a little hot.  you might want to make sure your vents are clear and free from dust. blow them out with a can of air.  i have to blow mine out about once a month, they just attract dust.

Is there a way to specify different actions for the pen buttons?  For example, when using one specific program, I'd like the side button to function as if it were the shift key instead of the right-click but then have it operate as the standard right-click when in Windows or other programs. Is this a native functionality or is there a third-party program available that could give me such options?

Answer:X230 Tablet Pen Options

aardvarky, This is an excellent question! I definitely understand your wants! Officially, it needs to be a setting inside the software you want to use the digitizer pen in.

Examples:

With the new TBT2 there is a software called QuickSnip, insdie the QuickSnip settings you can change the digitizer pen button from right click to screen capture.

Inside OneNote you can change the settings of the Pen Buttons, here is a link to a X230T Digitizer Pen Input Youtube video that may have more clairification.

So, as Digitizer Pen Technology becomes more popular, I believe we will begin seeing more Applications and Software adding the technology to enhance their user customizations.

Question: X230 Tablet newbie

Hi all,

I've recently bought a Lenovo X230 Tablet. Specificly a 3434-CTR.

Now, as far as I know, a X230 tablet should have a multitouch screen and pressure sensitive built in Wacom tablet.

I just got this machine and it has a pre-installed copy of Windows 7 64bit Professional on it so I would gather that it has all necesery drivers already installed.

Problem is, the touch screen simply doesn't work - it doesn't respond to my fingers at all. It does work with the stylus pen, though. But it doesn't support pressure sensitivity. I tried using a portable drawing program that has never failed to work with any pressure sensitive pen tablet but it simply didn't work.

I'm guessing that there are some drivers I should install, but I don't know what to look for.

Is it possible that a 3434-CTR doesn't have a multitouch screen nor a pressure sensitive pen tablet?

Welcome to the community.

You may wish to visit the Parts Lookup page. Fill in your S/N and machine type (3434) and it should return a list of parts that went into your build. Either post the whole list back here, or, if it's obvious, post the P/Ns for the LCD panel and we can try to assist further.

In the Windows METRO mode, the touch keyboard will automatically come out when the focus is in a text field. In the Windows desktop mode, one way to get the Touch keyboard is:Click the key combination: Windows + C to bring up the Charm.Click the Settings.Click Keyboard and select the Touch Keyboard. Unfortunately, it seems that it does not remember the selection so the next time you click on a text field, you have to go through the process again. I hope MS will change this. Even better is if the X230T is in a tablet mode (meaning the screen is lay flat and on top of keyboard, it will be smart enough to use Touch Keyboard by default. Edit: Another way to display the Touch Keyboard is to click the Touch Keyboard icon at the task bar.

Hi:I have an X61S running XP.  I use it in the office with the Ultrabase docking station connected to an external LCD monitor.  When docked, I always have the laptop lid closed. I want to expand my system to use two external monitors, but understand that the X61s cannot support a "third" monitor.  (1st the laptop monitor, 2nd is the current external monitor.) I have read some posts that I could either use the Matrox Dualhead2go as a solution.  I'm looking into this. But I have also heard I can use Lenovo's Enhanced USB Port Replicator.   I've read the literature and it appears it will work, but all of the data is just on one monitor. My qeustion is, if I have my X61s w/ ultrabase connected to one LCD monitor via the VGA port on the Ultrabase, can I have a "third" monitor by using the VGA port connected via the Enhanced USB Port Replicator?   I'm thinking no. If not, then I"ll go with the Matrox Dualhead2go. Thanks.

I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet.  The trackpoint and touchpad have stopped working.  This just happened today, after about six months of use.  When I boot the machine, I can move the mouse cursor for a few seconds, but then it stops.  I don't see any error messages.  The Ultranav panel in the mouse control panel applet shows the controls for both trackpoint and touchpad greyed out--they can't be clicked on, and the "enabled" boxes are not checked.  The device manager says that the device is working.  If I try to update the driver, I'm told it is up to date.  If I uninstall the driver and reboot, the trackball and touchpad work, but they seem to be using generic drivers--the ultranav panel does not show in the mouse applet.  I'm told to reboot to complete installation.  However, if I do that, I'm back to square one, with the ultranav not working.  I checked the boot configuration, and it shows both the trackpoint and touchpad as enabled.

If that doesn't work then I would assume it's a hardware problem.

My X230 Tablet laptop hangs after booting or reawakening from stand-by. It happens every single time. It lasts for about 2-3 minutes, during which the cursor can be moved but nothing responds. The hard-drive status indicator is constantly on. After 2 or 3 minutes the laptop becomes responsive again and the problem doesn't return until I reboot. Sometimes the problem occurs immediately after booting, sometimes a few minutes later. I've had the problem since I got the laptop.

Answer:X230 Tablet hangs after booting

It still happens after a diagnostic boot, with all services stopped.

I have masses of UK Thinkpad power supplies, so that's not an issue. Is there anything else I need to change to make it work fully in the UK ? I'm thinking specifically of the GOBI WWAN card - I'm pretty sure the rest of it is the same globally. Will the GOBI card work with UK mobile broadband, or do I need to get an Ericsson card to replace it ?

I have thinkpad x230 tablet, and I have mixed feeling about it. It is a quite powerful one, does most of the job but have too many design flaws - broken rubber latch after a while and rubber buffers in the bottom etc.,  I hate the new gen x240 laptop, especially the X series convertible laptop is discontinued. Stupid, in my opinion, yoga design. I, no way, want to flip the keyboard to any surface. Especially on a field trip. X240 discontinues Express Card slot, no thunderbolt, no digitizer. The removal of trackpoint 3 click buttons, which were combined with the trackpad. People complain a lot when they accidentally click the trackpad while typing. I am a trackpoint person, not trackpad person. So the removal was **** retarded, anti consumer, anti Thinkpad legacy!Pls, see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb7p3VkQCOo. I did not made this video but 100% agree with this guy.  In addition, it seems to me that newer generations Intel core processor (4th and upcoming 5th) was weeker than ivy bridge processor because Ivy Bridge processors are full power 35W, now, everything is low powered to save the battery life. I have a few questions: 1.Is there anyway, or any company that can make a better thinkpad x230 tablet screen (say upgrading the screen from 1366x768 to higher resolution, improving wacom pen digitizer on the edges 2. Is there any laptop on the market that has express card or thunderbolt, touch screen, digitize... Read more

hello to all, my first post, I hope I'm not asking to much!  I want to make sure that the X230t fits my requirements.  First & foremost, does the X230 t measure 12" X 9" X 1.23" with or without battery installed? (so that it fits in my hard shell case) Secondly, when using the X230t to read a pdf doc, can you increase the size of text by using two finders on display and spreading fingers apart?   And can you move the pdf page by moving one finger on display? (if only portion of page is displayed) Can you have a pdf doc opened on half of display, while taking notes with digy pen on other half of the display? Can the digypen be used with word and excel?thanks, and have a great day

Answer:X230 tablet prospective buyer

1. the measurement you have is with the 3 cells battery fitted, it is not the measurement for the X230 with 6 cells battery fitted. The 6 cells battery will add another 1 inch to the measurement of 9 inch. 2. Yes, you can zoom by pinch. The movement of page with one finger depends on type of pdf software you use. 3. Yes you can write on the screen whilst having a pdf doc opened on half of the screen. 4. Yes, you can with a digitiser pen in both the Excel and Word. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037681356/http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/10037657335/

Hello all,I have 230X tablet and I upgraded it to windows 8.Since the upgrade, I feel that the power manager shows wrong time remaining, and every time I try to configure something with the power manager dashboard it crushes as "not responding".I read that the battery should last for 7+ hours, but after a full charge it shows only 3+ I also installed the latest driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't help. Does it sounds familiar? Does anyone has a solution? Thanks!

Answer:Power manager X230 Tablet

Hi, As far as I know, Lenovo has not supported Power Management for Windows 8 yet. What you said happends to me too. The time remaining is not accurate. Sometimes it drops from 25% to 10%, and the computer goes to sleeps after a few seconds... But after I reset my battery gauge, it solves the problem. By somehow, I discover that Power Management does work in Guest Account. You should perform Battery Gauge Reset in your Guest Account. Here is what I do: You should activate your Guest account (When you hit Windows key, type Accounts, Users accounts (in setting) -> Manage other Account -> Turn on GUEST account. You run battery reset there. (it takes long time since the computer will fully charge your battery and then completely discard and then chage again). Unfortunately, you cannot switch account during you perform battery reset and you cannot turn off computer during that time. It takes about ...12h to perform the task. But it works for me. The drawback of Guest account is you cannot connect to internet. I hope that LENOVO would support Power Management soon!. Too bad for a business laptop .

Hello, I started a new post because this is a different Error. After I updated my x230t using the recommeneded updates from the website, my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I tried re-installing windows but the error remained. I eventually found the issue being that when I start up the PC, the Fn key is stuck as if its still pressed, even when its not (the key itself isnt stuck). To solve this, I went into Bios and swapped the Fn key with left Ctrl, and now whenever I boot up the PC I plug in an external keyboard and press left Ctrl, this "unsticks" the left Ctrl key (which is physically the Fn key after I swapped them)  and lets me use the computer normally. What could have caused it? is it unrelated to windows seeing as it happened after I clean installed? how do I go about fixing it? and can I contact an offical Lenovo support somewhere online?

Answer:x230 Tablet keyboard issue

I would just replace the keyboard.  This sort of problem is almost always a short in the keyboard.  Used ones are commonly available.  The T430, X230, T530, W530 all use the same keyboard

Hey guys, I'm new on this forum and I'm also new in using X230 tablet or any 2-in-1 laptop. This is my second ThinkPad but first convertible laptop. About problems. Shortly after I've got this ThinkPad I've installed Windows 10 because in my opinnion it works better and IS better than Win7. But after installation, I've encountered a few problems.First problem was no auto rotation - I could do that only by installing drivers for Tablet Buttons (it didn't bother me that much as next few problems).Second problem was not working Dolby Profile - anyone has suggestions why? I've read that eccp4.exe or something like that is not supported in Win10. The only thing with Dolby that did work was Dolby Digital Plus (and the equalizer there is horrible!).And third, and also MAIN problem was random screen touches. Did anyone encountered this kind of problem on yours X230 tablet? It happened only when I was fully in "tablet mode". Like for example I was doing some notes on classes and A LOT of times Action Center came up. With no touch from my side - I was only writing notes or not even touching the screen. Also normal touches appeared, not only Action Center sliding. Firstly I've got a little scared because it's used laptop bought on something like ebay. But my second thought was to go back to Win7 from recovery (which didn't work with F8, I've used SWM/WIM tutorial to fully recover system). And finally it seems that this problem doesn't occur on Win7. When I'm in full "table... Read more

Answer:X230 tablet - Windows 10 and 7 problems

i've been running windows 10 as a devoloper since before its's launch with very few issues.First make sure you download the drives from lenovo for winows 10 that till fix most of your issues.some things are just not compatable with the windows 10 OS look for replacements in the windwos store but your dolby does have a driver update. for some reason the thinkvantage software does not down load the drivers for you you'll have to do that on your own. Once you download all your drivers your X230T will run much more normaly. keep in mind however if you have the touch screen model it only supports 2 finger touch while winows 10 supports 10, it still works but many of the gestures don't you can chage your screen if your so inclined as far as i know there is no driver update. Good luck

I used the X230 Thinkpad Tablet in tablet mode and when I went back to use it as a laptop, the touchpad no longer works.  I can use the keyboard and use the touchscreen but not the touchpad.  When I go into the control panel for Windows 7 and the mouse settings, the touchpad options to activate are not available. The touchpad mouse works before I log into the machine, but when my desktop shows and I try to use the various programs, the touchpad is not activated. How do I get the touchpad to work again?

Applies to being unplugged and plugged in. It's not due to have power consumption, usually just shuts off from within minutes of logging into my account. Safe mode seems to delay this problem for a while. Best way to go about fixing this? Malwarebytes doesnt detect any viruses.

I recently purchased a X230 type 3434-CTO Tablet (the one with gorilla glass). The first night I had it it worked great and I was incredibly happy with my purchase. At the end of the night I began installing an update for windows and let it run overnight. The next day I encountered severe problems with the touch screen. Pen input will not function at all in tablet mode and intermitently in laptop mode. I began with restoring windows to before I updated, then reinstalled windows and all drivers ect. Nothing has worked so far. I brought it to the IT department at my school and they tried using older drivers ect, nothing has worked so far. I am increidbly frustrated, has anyone else encountered this  or a similar issue? Thank you for your time and thought

Answer:X230 Tablet input not working

welcome to the community. sorry you're having troubles.have you tried to recover the system to factory-delivered state via the on-disk recovery process? or did you make the factory recovery dvd set, which you could use with an external dvd drive? please post back more specifics about what condition your machine is in. ie, data and docs backed up, ready to have a new or factory install done, etc.

Hello! I just got a new X230 Tablet Notebook (with standard digitizer pen) and know nothing about it (got it as a work computer).  When I am on the basic Windows 7 login screen my pen works beauftifully.  Once I successfully log in it does not work at all.  In portrait tablet mode it will SOMETIMES register where I tap after a long delay.  It does not hover as it should and will never "click".  There is no response in landscape tablet mode. Please help!  Thanks! :-)

Answer:X230 Tablet [Brand New] Pen Issues

Hi, vgbornak

Though the machine is brand new, there may be a few updates available for the computer. I would recommend making sure that the BIOS is up to date, along with other drivers as necessary. The BIOS driver can be found here, and all the drivers available for the machine can be found here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Answer:x230 Tablet "Black Button"

I have not discovered a way revamp the Black Button without changing the registry, However, this may be a good alternative for you to create your own hard shortcuts in Windows 8:

Use the [Win-Logo]+[D] to see the Windows-8 desktop.
Right click on the Windows-8 desktop and select New, Shortcut.
Then in the called input box simply enter the appropriate shortcut text.
(found under the properties of the desired program)
Once a desktop shortcut is made, right click the shortcut, press properties and shortcut key replace none with the key or key combination you would like to use.

Then Pin the Desktop Shortcut to Start (Menu). To do this right click on the desktop shortcut and select "Pin to Start"

I also thought I would share the official Windows 8 shortcuts with you.

Realized I posted this in the wrong place and it really belongs here I decided to look around to make sure my computer was even able to run an external GPU and found I have hit a wall. I flashed my BIOS to the newest version (like 2.67 or something?) but my TOLUD is 3.5 GB (dfa00000). I thought the BIOS update was supposed to fix this? I only have 8GB of RAM so the 16GB problem shouldn't affect me either? Anyone know what might be wrong? When reading some forums I saw that people who updated their BIOS were able to fix their problem as long as they only had 8 gigs of ram, which is why im confused I still have DFA00000. Will it still work regaurdless of this? I thought the update was supposed to fix this.

I recently purchased the Mini Dock series 3 (USB 2.0) version to hook up 2 monitors. However, when I plugged in my X230 to the docking station and connected my Samsung 906BW monitor via the DVI port, the monitor is not recognized. When I unplug the DVI cable, the monitor says "Signal not detected", which makes me think that the port appears to be working. We have a Thinkpad X61 docking on an Ultrabase.  It worked well for months.  The problem exists since two months ago, and I don't know if it was due to some updates to the system.  It is running Vista: When the notebook first boot up, everything okay, even showing the logon screen.  After the user logging on, and the Vista desktop shown.  All of a sudden, the external LCD blank, and a message on it says we need to set it to 1280x1024 for best performance.  Now, if I open the notebook's LCD, the external LCD gets back to live as well.  Next, we close the notebook's LCD, the external LCD still working. I tried to replace the LCD monitor with a Sony, and the same problem persists.  The message on the external LCD said something like "cannot support 99MHz frequency...." I tried another Ultrabase with the same notebook, same result. It seems that the notebook is trying to adjust to a very high frequency for the external monitor after it logon to Vista. May I ask if anybody have the same problem or can give me some hints to solve the problem? Thanks in advance Raymond

Hi,X200 ultrabase offers both VGA and DisplayPort video outputs. Is it possible to attach displays to both ports simultaneously and expand desktop to both displays? I'm currently using this setup with my T40 and minidock and thinking about upgrading. Two external monitors are essential for me, but both T6x and T400 seems to bulky compared to my old T40, so X200 will be very compelling if it can handle two displays.ThanksJirka

Answer:Attaching two external displays to X200 ultrabase

Hi I am currently using two displays with the X200 ultra base. You will need to insure that you order the adapter cable for the digital display. Part number: 45J7915 I have been happy with this setup but I will caution that if you boot the system up when its not connected to the ultrabase and then dock the laptop it will not recognize the digital display. The only fix I have found is to reboot the laptop with it connected to the ultrabase to have it recognize the digital display. If someone knows a fix for this issue maybe they could chime in. Good Luck!

I have the X61 and the ultrabase.  I have not updated the drivers for the video since I purchased this back in March/April.  Over the past month or two my external monitor (Viewsonic 17" LCD) now flickers often.  Not contantly.  Just every few minutes a flicker here, a flicker there. When I plug the monitor into the video port on the side of the unit rather than the ultrabase, it seems to work fine.  Lenovo and I thought it might be the ultrabase so they just sent me a new ultrabase, but it is still doing the same thing.  What else can I check.
