x220t Trackpoint problem

Question: x220t Trackpoint problem

Hello lenovo community, I bought an x220t and it shipped yesterday. Everything is fine, except the Trackpoint. It seems like the "B"-button is blocking it, because it moves slowly downwards. If I press the B-button and use the Trackpoint it works well, like on my X121e. The cursor also accelerates if I move the mouse down with the Trackpoint and then press the button. What can I do?

Preferred Solution: x220t Trackpoint problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: x220t Trackpoint problem

Have you tried running Lenovo System Update to see if new drivers are available? TrackPoint has self-calibration which ignores any consistent small trackpoint displacement. So even if the B button interferes, I would think at some point the interference would be calibrated out.

Ok, most of us know about this problem but I've not heard of any solution and I am becoming convinced that it is a software issue and not just a hardware/design flaw.... If one were to hold on the trackpoint, pushing it in one direction or another for too long, the computer starts to take control over the pointer and it fights against the direction you want to go. If you let go at this point entirely, the mouse cursor moves all on it's own. A work-around so far, is to occasionally let go of the trackpoint during use, and if you do this often enough, the problem just doesn't happen in the first place. But sometimes it's easy to forget this, and when that happens, it's an annoyance to an otherwise awesome design that overall just works... I want to work with the community on fixing this if we can, or getting help from the developers/drivers if need be. One thing, I have noticed, is that if you get the problem to occur (or purposely strive to re-produce the issue) the only way to get it to stop is to wait several seconds until the cursor completely stops moving.  If you try to fight against the cursor, or move in any direction, you just end up delaying the amount of time it takes for the issue to go away, so it's best to just sit and wait it out for a second while this is happening.  You could literally keep interrupting/fighting against it, and it will continue on in error until you give up.  Because of this, I suspect that an adjustment ... Answer:Trackpoint moves on it's own..... (Lenovo X220T)

From wikipedia: "A common problem of pointing sticks is the inability to identify the zero position (the position indicating no user touch). A typical solution, which reflects the fact that user operation of the pointing stick is rarely constant, is to interpret any absence of change of pressure (over a given interval, perhaps one or several seconds) as meaning the user has released the stick. If the user applies exactly constant pressure to the stick for such an interval, this method mistakenly re-zeroes the stick. Then additional pressure is required to achieve the same movement of the screen cursor, and the cursor spontaneously moves in the opposite direction when the user releases the stick. If the user avoids touching the stick, the error ends when the stick detects the real zero position." It's a fundamental flaw of any trackpoint device. The trackpoint is not a moving part so there is no natural way to calibrate for (x,y)=(0,0) that would be accurate for more then a few seconds of use. Once you understand why this happens you can even replicate the issue whenever you like by applying constant pressure in any direction; eventually the software will think this pressure state is zero and your mouse will stop moving, and when you let go the cursor will drift in the opposite direction at the same speed you started pushing at. The solution to the problem when you get drift is as you say, just let go for a second and the software will rezero the trackpoint.

I found that I can not move the mouse cursor using the trackpoint when I have the middle mouse button pressed down. This is quite annoying in situations (i.e. playing Diablo 3 with forced move). Is this a hardware limitation? Running Windows 7 x64.

Answer:X220T Middle mouse button BLOCKS the trackpoint interrupts?

The middle button is set to scrolling by default. You'll probably need to set it to act as a normal middle mouse button from the windows control panel.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

Is there anyone out there with an X220 Tablet with the built in GPS who can try this?   I'd like to know if others are having this same problem.  I can't, for the life of me, figure out why the GPS would suddenly stop working simply by changing the screen orientation to tablet mode. If I have time, I will put the factory hard disk back in and see if the original software image does the same thing...Or, Perhaps it's time for a call to tech support..... TIA

Hello. My bluetooth works fine when streaming sound to a bluetooth speaker except for the following: If I have my right palm resting on the laptop, like you would if you were typing words, the sound cuts out completely. If I lift my palm off the surface, it works but it is not very comfortable or something you want to do for a long period of time. I tore it apart and noticed the bluetooth device is right below where the palm rests on the keyboard. I removed a screw and took out what I assume is an antenna and reseated it but that didn't make any difference. l doubt it is due to downward pressure as it feels pretty solid so I am guessing it is some type of electrical interference. This does not make sense because my hand is the new CyborgX RH80 model and it is certified to be free of this issue (unlike its predecessor model RH79). Any ideas on what is causing this issue and how to fix it?

Answer:X220T Bluetooth Problem

Hello,

I have to admit I am completely unfamiliar with medical prosthesis, but Bluetooth operates in the 2.4GHz band, which is the microwave frequency range in the electromagnetic spectrum.  My guess is that the prosthesis is composed of some materials which absorbs microwave radiation (metals, electronics, etc.) and that is what is blocking the Bluetooth signal.

Normally, I would tell someone to check if something is going to interfere with a Bluetooth signal by asking them to put it in a microwave oven for a few seconds and see if it gets warm, but this should not be done with the prosthesis as that would damage it, and I know they are very expensive as each one has to be individually manufactured and customized for the wearer.

I would suggest checking with your physician or the manufacturer to find out more about how your prosthesis is constructed and if they have any suggestions.  In the meantime, as a workaround, you could use an external USB Bluetooth adapter in one of the X220t's unobstucted USB ports, and that should work fine.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think this software is really necessary.  You could try uninstalling it.  If you don't miss anything, then leave it uninstalled.  You can always reinstall it later.

I'm a student of Wright State University, and every time I walked in and out from our library, the alarm rang, every time. And there was just my x220t in my backpack. Every time I had to go back to show the librarian that I hold nothing of the library.  After a few embarrassing times, I found the reason. Our library has some Thinkpad laptops for rent, and students can rent them for free but cannot take them out from the library. I think the alarm recognized my laptop as the laptops of library, then it rang. I asked the librarian how to solve this problem, but he knew nothing about this. How can I solve this problem?  P.S. I think it's a hardware problem.

Hi, I have an X220t Tablet, type 4296CTO. It's got every optional feature - 3g, camera, touch+pen display, etc. It has been upgraded to 16GB of Crucial RAM, replacing the 8GB Samsung RAM with which it shipped. I also replaced the 320GB original disk with a 512GB Crucial M4 SSD. It's fast, and it must be unusual because I've had no problems with it at all, until now. I recently bought a ThinkVision LT2452p 24" IPS monitor. Running on my work T430, or my old T500, the monitor runs at full resolution (1920x1200) through Displayport or through VGA, and there's no problem. On the X220t I can run the monitor at full resolution on the VGA connector with no problem, but if I try to use the displayport connector, everything still works but the thinkpad display is covered in 'snow'. It's distracting at first, but over time ( > 30mins) it becomes unusable. Unplug the displayport connector and the snow disappears. To recap, under every other scenario, the thinkpad display is IPS-crispy, and through the VGA connector both the thinkpad display and the montior run with full IPS loveliness. Only when I use the X220t's DisplayPort connector do I see snow, and then it only affects the built-in thinkpad display. I've tried reverting to the original RAM (no difference) and running Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 7 Pro-64 (no differences). I don't have an Ultrabase 3 to see if a different DisplayPort would work.I've also tried connecting the monitor using the DVI c... Read more

Hi, I recently purchased the docking station with the DVD reader in the ultrabay. So far, things are working smoothly and I'm very happy with the dock. I do however run into a resume problem everytime my tablet is docked. Whether the laptop is put to sleep on the dock or put to sleep undocked and then attached, when I open the lid, the laptop won't resume. Any press (short, long) on the main power button doesn't do the trick either. I have so far only been able to get it to resume by pressing the power button on the dock on the power button on the screen for about 5 seconds. A short press on these doesn't work The same problem occurs when the tablet is turned off: no way to power it on using the main power button once it's docked. I'm running Win7 x64 with the latest BIOS and drivers (just reinstalled everything last week hoping to solve my touchpad problem -- which I assume is completely unrelated). Thanks for your answers, -LP

I recently purchased a Crucial m4 SSD for my X220 Tablet. Upon attempting to start Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installation from a USB flash drive, I receive the following error from the Windows Boot Manager: File: \Boot\BCDStatus: 0xc0000225Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data. It loads just fine with my desktop and my work laptop, so I don't think that the USB drive is the problem. I've googled the error and found some discussions that mentioned having to enable APIC, but there is no such option in the BIOS. Also, another thread on this site mentioned disabling processor power management, but that didn't work either. If anyone has any insights, I'd really appreciate it.

The display brightness problem (Fn Home & End not working for brightness adjustment) seems to be happening on many people (in fact on several series of Thinkpad), but a real solution is not coming up all around the world. After the last update for KB3097877, my laptop boots to the login icons. If I click on either user icon, the screen changes but after a few seconds it just displays the login icons again. Searches on the web indicate that the issue causing this is related to the touch screen. Microsoft has fixed the update with a revised file. My issue is that I cannot get past the login screen to uninstall the update. The computer is my son's and he had to buy it through the high school he went to. I have no boot disc and there is no dvd drive.Trying to restore it doesn't work because it asks for a disk. Any ideas on how I can get past this issue so I can uninstall it? Hi All, I recently received my x220 tablet (about a week ago), and I am experiencing a rather interesting issue with charging. This has only started last night. Basically, the laptop does not seem to realize it is plugged into the ac adapter,ie, the battery discharges and there is no indication of it being plugged in (not even the infamous "plugged in, not charging"). However, if I shut the computer down, remove the battery and plug in the ac adapter, the computer boots up normall and is able to run fine off of ac power (ie, not a power cord issue). And, if I then put the computer into sleep mode, reinsert the battery, and wake it, the battery charges, fully. I am pretty sure it is a software issue, and I have tried system restore and uninstalling/reinstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, but this does not help either. I have installed all the latest updates, and have antivirus software, so I know that that is not the problem. Has anybody had this problem, or know how to fix it? Thanks

This was such a pain to figure out that I thought I'd share the solution here.  For some reason my X220t refused to connect to the wireless on Win8 x64. The wireless icon in the tray showed a red circle with a white cross. Hovering over the icon showed the text not connected  -  no connections are available". Not a single network was visible, where normally I see something like twenty.  - I toggled the hardware Wifi switch on the left front side off and back on. No change.- I updated the Intel Wifi driver using wired LAN. No change- I ran the network troubleshooter. It said something like 'disconnected' (don't recall), but no solution- I pressed the Fn-F5 combination. This now seems 'hard wired' to Win8 airplane mode. Toggling airplane mode off and back on with Fn-F5 or via the charms menu did not help things.- I went into the bios to see if anything got disabled. Nothing. Updated the bios to a one-month old version. No change.- I mucked about with virtual ethernet adapters (why oh why did I install the WP8 SDK..)- ran the intel ProSET Wireless tools, diagnostics. It told me "software radio is off". - searched google for this phrase, and finally found this: http://goo.gl/IUjqi Solution. apparently wifi can ALSO be enabled/disabled in charms > settings > change PC settings > Wireless > Wireless network connection ON/OFF.  Toggling that on solved it (duh). Now wouldn't it be nice if the various trouble... Hi,Today I was able to test the X220T at a store. Everything worked fine for me, except that the multi touch did not really worked. So my problem was: Pen worked as it should. 5 fingers to lock up the screen worked. 4 fingers to switch between programs worked. But when I wanted to zoom in or out like on the iSomething it did not work. Even scrolling in the Windows Internet Explorer did not worked. I always marked something, but never scrolled. Opening up the simple tap by tapping twice on the screen with two fingers did not work as well.Back on the touchpad zooming and scrolling worked with two fingers... Did anybody experience that before? Is there a menu where you can change settings? Or do you have to learn the tablet the gestures you want? I would be very thankful if somebody could help!Philipp from Austriawho may have soon own a X220tablet

Can anyone else please check to see if you have problems with recording in OneNote on your X220 Tablet? This problem is driving me up the wall. On the other hand, OneNote 2010 on my Toshiba records consistently without any problems. When I stop recording a clip in OneNote on my new X220T, the timer will often return to 00:00, and nothing will have been recorded.  This does not always happen, but it happens very often. As you can see, this means we cannot depend on OneNote to reliably record anything. I noticed that OneNote will sometimes unmute the microphone when a recording is started. It will also sometimes mute the microphone when a recording is started. However, even when I toggle the mute button to ensure that the microphone is not muted after recording begins, OneNote is not guaranteed record properly. For those of you who are curious, this X220T is brand new. The only things I did to this laptop were:1. Install Microsoft Office Professional 20102. Run Windows Update. Install the patches for Windows and Microsoft Office 2010 (Service Pack 1)3. Try recording in OneNote. Ran into the described problem. Everything else is set to factory settings. Why is it that this brand new Lenovo laptop has a recording problem, but my Toshiba works perfectly? If I cannot rely on this machine, there is no reason for me to keep it.  Any fix or feedback from other users, forum volunteers, or Lenovo engineers would be greatly appreciated.

Question: Trackpoint problem

First of all, sorry if this questions been asked and answered. I've been searching off an on for several weeks for any online help to a trackpoint annoyance I've been having with no luck. I'm on a T61p running XP. (I upgraded the stock Vista, following an online guide). I have the Ultranav utility installed (I can see and change the options for the trackpoint/touchpad in the mouse control panel). Both the trackpoint and touchpad work. However, every once in a while the trackpoint just becomes totally unresponsive and the mouse pointer refuses to respond or move. For like 3-4 seconds. What's odd is that when this happens, the touchpad still works. (I'm trying to move or scroll with the trackpoint / topmost scroll button+trackpoint with now response, but use other finger to test touchpad and that responds.) It's really odd and really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice? Thanks!

Hi all I have purchased an X220T and in addition to the oft-mentioned screen problems elsewhere here I have a variable texture in the screen of my system which means different areas of the screen go from high-inertia to low-inertia (not a problem with any tablet I have seen before including an X201T I use). This entirely ruins the tablet experience. Has anyone else had this problem?  Of note, the returns department were very unhelpful (culminating in being on hold for 15 minutes). I am now going to have to pay $200 shipping to get the system back to the US to get refunded as I am not in the US any longer and there is no local service centre I can find on this website. I have no faith in Lenovo now and wish I had read the warning signs on this messageboard. I hope others considering the X220t  read this and realise that this is a flawed system with clear manufacturing problems that is not apparently fit for sale.

Hi , have one more problem with my x220t tablet version.. Battery problem .. 6cell battery pack . Hardware and PCB experts.. Some time ago I noticed my laptop all of a sudden shuts down when charger cable disconnected.. Hmm.. Could be the battery is dead? So I checked it and it indeed was the battery,  software reported that the battery is installed , charged at 73% but compeletely damaged and that it should be replaced..Since I've kept the battery for most of it's lifetime around 60% and didn't use it too much with extreme deep discharges and charges, I knew cells are in good condition so it must be somethig else.. After inspecting the BMS (battery controller module  in battery) I noticed one fuse is burned.. It's the fuse with number 12AH3 I think.. Fuse has a heater inside, 4 pins and basically any kind of overcharge or returned voltage or something burns it immediatelly , it's a very fast burn fuse..  Heater heats up instantly and burns it out.. So I gave it to colleague at work who is working with soldering PCB's , he replaced it , from a nother battery pack. But when he returned the battery pack I hooked it up and laptop doesn't work.  I checked the terminals and there is 0V. I checked the cells and they are good.. I figured battery has to be woken up , so I tried to short it, connect it to charger , and some other battery pack wake - up methods.. Nothing.. I returned the pack to colleague and after checking he... Read more

Recently I've been having an issue with both my trackpoint and touchpad. sometimes one works and other times the other works. from time to time they both work. it seems to switch when i pull up a new website or open a program. if one works before i open the program then the other will work after i open it. the buttons are the same way as well.. if one set works then the other doesn't but they don't correspond to which pointing device is working.. its kind of random.

Answer:Trackpoint & Touchpad problem

I have just starting having the same problems as well.  It's driving me nuts.  I thought my laptop was crapping out.  Anyone have any ideas what's going on?  I also had the trackpoint touchpad go south on a HP N6400, though in all cases, the Synaptic driver thinks everything is hunkydorey.  I've updated drivers, tried everything.   Whole reason I have a Lenovo is for the trackpoint and if it's going to stop working, then will start looking at a new laptop.

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling problem

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

Hello, I usually have my laptop connected though the ethernet, so I have the wireless radios turned off. I have my TrackPoint mouse set to the highest sensivity level in both the mouse settings in the control panel and in the ultranav software. When I want to use the wireless network, I flip the switch and the wireless radios come on. Incedentally, when I do that, the mouse becomes less sensitive. So every time I turn on the wireless radio, I have to go to the control panel and change the sensitivity back to high. The ultranav software is not affected. The settings also get reverted to default when I turn on the laptop while the wireless radios are on. Does anyone know how to make the mouse stay at the highest sensivity level regardless of whether the radios are on or off?

Answer:Problem With My TrackPoint W510

hi rgoode, with regards to this, could you uninstall the ultranav software and drivers from your system, then let windows install its generic drivers. once generic drivers has been installed, change the sensitivity settings for the mouse and see if there is a difference when wifi mode is on and off.once done, go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74582.html download the latest ultranav software and driver.do a test again.

Hi,  The red trackpoint on my ThinkPad X1 is not as sensitive as expected. Does anyone know where to change the setting for the trackpoint? In old T60, they have productivity center to control these devices.  In X1 it seems there is no interface/software to do so. Thanks, wib10

Answer:X1 trackpoint setup problem

Hello wib10, welcome to Lenovo forums!

Do you run a factory installation?

The go into control panel, choose mouse, then you´ll see an UltraNav tab.

Click on it and you see options to adjust your TrackPoint/TrackPad

Kind regards

The trackpoint on my x120e just stopped working, along with the accompanying buttons just below the keyboard.  However, the touchpad and its two buttons still work.  (This happened while I was using the computer -- no apparent change to system files prompted it.) I tried Fn+F8 to turn the trackpoint back on -- I can select the option but it doesn't take effect.  In advanced options, the option to turn the trackpoint on is grayed out. I downloaded and installed the latest UltraNav driver; no improvement.  I also looked in BIOS options and didn't see anything related to enabling the trackpoint. Has anyone else had an issue with this, or is it likely an old-fashioned hardware problem? Thanks for your help.

Answer:X120e Trackpoint problem

hey kdl79,

try uninstall the ultranav driver and software as well as the current mouse drivers that is installed. let windows install its generic drivers.

test your trackpoint and mouse and see if it works, then visit our support page and reinstall the drivers+software

I just got my new X1, but found immediately that the buttons associated with trackpoint doesn't work. Actually only the left and middle buttons don't work, the right button works, so I guess it's not likely to be a software problem. Anyone has similar problem as this?

Answer:X1 trackpoint button problem

nope, you should have warranty still, just call up support and they should be able to help you, i.e. either to send you a keyboard for self replacement or send you off to the depot.

Hi guys, Something weird happened today. After rebooting my laptop the display wasn't working at all, but I heard the bootup sound. So I connected an external monitor and was able to use my computer fine. The weird thing is the display won't show any images, but backlight and touch are working. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the display drivers (whenever I googled it I was linked to the intel 3000 drivers, I'm not sure if it's the same thing), however the problem still persists. I tried uninstalling the panel driver from the control panel and then installing the intel drivers but that didn't fix anything either. If anyone could help me out it'd be very appreciated. Thanks!Chuck

Does anyone have a problem with the pen while in tablet mode after updating drivers? First, I've been using the pen in tablet mode for awhile now and it worked fine. However, after a recent update, there seem to be a glitch in how the tablet recognizes the pen.  For example, if i am writing in pen mode and want to move to the selection tabs in OneNote, it will not change to the selection tool but stay in the pen.  Therefore, I cannot access the menu at all.  In addition, I cannot close OneNote either.  The only way for me to fix this is switching between windows (from OneNote to a web browser and back to OneNote).  This is a hindrance when taking notes.  I had restarted my tablet a couple times but it did help.  Also, I don't know if this is the tablet's fault or my eyes, but sometimes the the color of of the windows (like chrome or OneNote) seem a little washed out and not as dark as it suppose to be. But then the color return to normal once I use it for a few minutes.  Here are the drivers i recently installed via ThinkVantage System Update-Windows 7 Update Module KB2482122 64bit-Intel GT1/GT2 Display Driver-ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software for Vista/win7-Lenovo Autolock Should I restore my previous drivers (if so, how)?  Thanks

Answer:Problem with annotation in tablet mode after drivers update of x220t

I have the same drivers installed you have, and I do not have the pen problems you describe. I do have the same  poor pen calibration that many others have reported. I did experience the "washed out" look you describe after installing the Intel Display Update. Go to the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, select "Power" in the left-hand pane, change the pull-down menu in the upper right to "On battery," and uncheck the "Display Power Savings Technology." This feature seems to have become a default in the update, and it is the thing responsible for the washed out look. -pierce

In addition, I can't find any option to change the sensitivity of the trackpoint. since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Answer:scrolling problem with touchpad/trackpoint

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

My touchpad and trackpoint stopped working at the same time suddenly a few days ago. I tried re-installing the drivers but nothing happened. I looked up this forum and tried resetting BIOS to defaults. After doing this the trackpoint has started working but the touchpad still does not work. When I open the mouse properties in the control panel I get a message saying "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device driver. If you have installed another PS/2 device please Uninstall the Synaptics driver. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. I have an early build T410 (shipped in February with Windows 7 64, nVidia Graphics, i7 processor), and I updated to the newest trackpoint driver on Thursday night (16th) when i also did my Windows update. I found that trackpoint driver to be somewhat quirky (a left-click frequently would manifest itself as a center-click), so reverted back to the older driver. All is well.  After reverting back to the previous driver, I have no problems, but did want to let Lenovo know that they may want to take a second look at that new driver.

I have a x200 with Win XP Pro. I had an uptodate trackpoint driver (4.72), and everything worked okay - I was able to change its setting in Mouse properties (TrackPoint tab). After the windows update, trackpoint just got mad. There is still a driver 4.72 installed - it can be seen in Mouse properties, but the TrackPoint tab is lost so the trackpoint operates at standard slow speed that windows gives it and there are not advanced settings that TrackPoint tab gives!! I noticed that tp4serv.exe, which as I believe is supposed to start the TrackPoint tab is started when windows boot, but the TrackPoint tab is not. I discovered that in order to start TrackPoint tab I have to manually click on tp4serv.exe. It is so frustrating 'couse I simply have no idea what to do - I tried reinstalling driver (it hangs), tried returning to older version of driver, I installed all updates from system update, installed updates from windows - still the same! I also tried to put tp4serv.exe in startup - no results.... I noticed some posts on the internet from people with the same problem but with no results... Do you have any suggestions what to do? EDIT: For future reference - I managed to fix it: I first  fully updated windows and NET framework 4.0. Than I got rid off the trackpoint driver (had to delete it from startup menu first in order to uninstall it without freezing system) - in result the 4.72 driver was replaced by slow, ordinary windows driver without the TrackPoint tab properti... As the title, there is a similar problem in the below link. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-3rd-Gen-2015-Trackpoint-scroll-prob...   It also happen in thinkpad 13, and it is not smooth while suffering internet in Chrome. There is a solution in that post, but the driver is not supported `Thinkpad 13`.It annoyed me a lot, what can I do ? ;-; BTW, I'm windows 7 user.

Answer:[Thinkpad 13]I met a problem when i scrolled in the Chrome with Trackpoint

I too notice that in some applications this laptop (also on W7) scrolls much faster than is usable, while in others it behaves fine. And that slowing the scroll-rate changes does nothing, or very little. It's indredibly frustrating.  ;(

I currently own a X220t since a month or so.(i7, 8gb) Recently I discovered, that I have following problems:If I hibernate my device, sometimes the brightness keys stop working. Also after restarts it keeps forgetting my Trackpoint settings (I like to use the Trackpoint for clicks). Another problem is that tapping with both finger on the Trackpad does not open the right click menu.Clicking the pad on the right side is very unreliable. Where do I have to click for the right mouse button exactly? Yesterday I configured a wireless network, including wpa2 (Key is right, works without the network profiles), ip, proxy. But it keeps throwing an error while trying to set the settings. The network gets a red X at the windows wifi list. PS:Please give me a real step by step solution. I do not want to try 1000 things here. If you need any more info please let me know!

Answer:X220t Brightness Keys + Keeps forgetting Mouse settings + Network profiles problem

The brightness not working after resume is a bit of a known issue. If you set the lid close action to nothing, closing and reopening the lid after resume cures it most of the time. For the TrackPoint, do you mean tap-to-click or just the regular keys? Since it looks like UltraNav is having trouble, I'd uninstall the UltraNav drivers and reinstall the latest one:http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6hgx44ww.exeFor the wireless network, do you have the right encryption? It's either AES or TKIP for WPA2. When it's set improperly, your wireless network drops to the bottom of the list and has a red X.

I have a user that has a 2nd Generation X1 Carbon (the type with virtual buttons on the Synaptics TrackPoint/TrackPad.   The user is complaining that a context sensitivie menu (of the type that a right click would initiate) intermittently is shown when she left clicks.  She normaly uses the TrackPad but does use the TrackPoint on ocassion.  Here's what I've done so far: 1) I initially thought it was the TrackPad and had Lenovo Support replace it.  The problem was reduced but is still occurs. 2) I've installed current UltraNav drivers and updated all other drivers to current levels.  The WIndows 10 is also updated to current patches.  I would try setting the UltraNave to "Click Anywhere" but that disables the TrackPoint feature that is ocassionally used.  Has anyone seen this happen before and know a fix for this?

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

Hi,I have a problem with my X200 tablet under vista: After a hangup the fingerprint, keyboard and trackpoint does not work. After login with external mouse and keyboard I did not find any mistake. Can anybody help? And another question:I want to change to Win7 because Vista ist bulls.... on this system. Is it possible to get an preload harddisk with Win7 and all Lenovo tools?Or a DVD for installation? Thanx

Answer:X200 tablet vista problem Keyboard, Trackpoint, Fingertip

It's not that great under Windows 7 either.... I've tried 7, vista and XP. So far windows xp is the least of the 3 evils. For windows 7 if you really want it (& if you don't mind that some of the hotkeys don't work under Windows 7 - installing extra drivers won't help this) you need the specifics from lenovo as to which installation cd you need to order from microsoft for normal X200 tablet function (I believe they charged about $40 dollars  Canadian for it)  in addition to a windows 7 OS code/key (around $90 dollars - not sure what that converts to in Switzerland, if you're a student).Hope that helps  Btw, what do you mean by hangup?

Scroll browser, every half of screen scroll, some lines are skipped maybe 10 or 15 lines. Screen scrolled with hopped.
It's very inconvenient.

Scrolling Method  option is "traditional" . "standard doesn't work.
Anyone know how fix it?  Is there any problem in "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav" ?

Answer:X1 Carbon (3rd Gen, 2015) Trackpoint scroll problem in Chrome browser

I don't have this exact issue but my scrolling is very choppy, especially using the Touchscreen (but the Trackpoint and Trackpad too).  Does the same issue occur for you with the other scrolling methods? For me, it's like the X1 is having a hard time keeping up with the web pages but the lines/elements do load eventually.

Hi, Problem occurs after waking from sleep or standby or hibernate, and alternatively  or right click on ultranav right button (it opens context menu). Then my left click is disabled. The cursor is either frozen or not. For the freeze there seems to be no rule, but the left click is always disabled. I have formatted the windows, installed new drivers and utility programs and also new bios. The same problem occurs every time.I have Windows 7 x64 I have seen many posts for issues with TP trackpoints and trackpads, but no resolution as of yet. If I am wrong, please point me in the right direction.

Answer:T420 Trackpad / UltraNav / Trackpoint problem after sleep or ultranav right click

Does this happen with the TrackPoint keys or the touchpad keys or both? Does it happen with the UltraNav driver uninstalled?

Question: x220t Ssd or HD?

Well I am about to purchase an x220t, and have settled on the I5 version.  Right now I can get the outdoor disply with ssd option for the same price as the multitouch with hd option.  The outdoor does not come with the fingerprint reader, so I will be purchasing that and installing myself.  With that in mind the ssd option becomes $60-70 more.  I plan on replacing either hard drive in a year or so with an up to date ssd.  Do you think that the initial $60-70 is worth having the 128gb ssd?  I know it is not fast, but will there be a big enough difference between the two to make it worth it?  I have a desktop, so when it comes down to it either hard drive will be going in there for extra space whenever I upgrade to a new ssd.      I am leaning towards getting the outdoor option simply because I will be using the laptop in tablet mode specifically to write, and it gets a little annoying when the digitizer does not work exactly right and my hand hits stuff.  Can anyone testify to the display's credibility?  It isnt a deal breaker if it doesn't perform especially well outside, as I will never be requited to be outside.  Still it would be nice from time to time. Thanks in advance

Answer:x220t Ssd or HD?

Not sure what your question is...but I think the ssd option is worth it in a laptop...they are more resistent to crashes due to movement, they are typically faster than mechanical drives, and they save on power and extend battery life.  I can't know how you value $70, so you have to decide for yourself. The screen on mine is nice.  I don't ever plan to use it outside, so I don't have an outdoor display...but writing on it with the stylus is very nice.  It is a very responsive screen. Please note that there apparently are some issues with the accuracy of the digitizer...there is an on-going thread here that you should read.  I got my x220t in mid December and mine seems to be fine....if it has the problems they are so slight as to not be an issue for me. Best.

Question: X220T Fan

I am going to replace my thermal paste soon. I was going to see about replacing the fan when I performed this since I would be removing it anyways. I was looking around the forum and have seen a few discussions about maybe an updated fan from the factory unit. I have a 4298 X220T and I got it in June/2011, does anyone know if there was an upgraded fan? If so what is the part number and where to purchase the component? Thanks!

Question: x220T

Hello world. I'm new to this forum. I'm also new to Lenovo products. I've now been fooling with my Lenovo x220T for a couple of months. I did my research before making a purchase. I'm not exactly a gearhead. I purchase used machinery almost exclusively. There are several reasons for this which I won't get into in this post. The x220T is the newest computing device I have ever purchased. (excluding my 'smartphone') The x220T is also the most complicated computer I have ever owned. I knew this from the beginning. As I said, I did my research. The x220T is a bit absurd and includes quite a lot of technology which is still rather, well, esoteric for a lack of better words. There are some things going on here which I am unfamiliar with. I have wondered many times what I have gotten myself into. Not that I'm giving up on understanding. I knew that it would be tough, I just didn't know that it would be this tough. I have to accept that sometimes I'm guided to things in life for no other reason than to be challenged. That said, here are some preliminary thoughts on the odd workings of the x220T. I did want a reasonably powerful machine. I wouldn't consider myself a power user. I can get all the performance I need out of an ancient machine with the help of a nice, trim Linux operating system, at least for about 90% of my computing needs. I'm not a gamer. The computer and the operating system IS the game to me. I'm no expert. I'm not a computer science genius. The x220T is way more tha... Read more

I have to apologize. My post is a long-winded, unformatted bucket of words. I thought that I would have the opportunity to come back and edit this post. I also thought that less people would be looking at it. To all of you who read this whole thing, I am sorry. You do not deserve such unstructured pontification. I will be more considerate next time I write something, and I will try to parse the preceding post into distinct topice soon.

Question: SATA 3 for X220T?

Does the X220T support 6.0 Gbps for SATA 3? I looked through the tabook but I only see 3.0 Gbps. It is a QM67 Chipset though, where I found on the Intel description for the QM67 Chipset, "Serial ATA (SATA)* 6 Gb/s and 3 Gb/s High-speed storage interface supporting up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to six SATA ports at 3 Gb/s with up to two ports supporting 6 Gb/s transfer rates." It's says up to two ports supporting 6 Gb/s, but does the X220 or the X220T support it?

Answer:SATA 3 for X220T?

yes, the X220 and X220T support 6 Gb/s on the main SATA drive and second SATA drive installed in an ultrabase with ultrabay drive adapter.   the mSATA port supports 3 Gb/s.

Question: RE: WWAN on X220T

Hi, I own a Thinkpad X220T, Mfg # 4296-2WU. My thinkpad has a sim card slot beneath the battery. I am wondering as to If I wish to use the mobile broadband service, how should I go about activating it on the X220T. I mean if it has the hardware, all that is required should be software activation. Please suggest.  Thanks in Advance. Ankit

Answer:RE: WWAN on X220T

Well assuming your sim card is active and has an active data plan associated with it, then yes, the rest is software. You shoudl be able to push Fn + f5 to bring up connections. From here your 3g radio should be one of the options you can turn on.

Hello there. I want to start off buy saying I bought my x220t multitouch tablet pc around December (i5 processor, 8 gb RAM, all the bells and whistles), and I LOVE it!  The only thing I'm looking to upgrade on it is the pen.  For me the pen works absolutely fine; however, when I upgraded to the tablet pc, I was upgrading from a Wacom Intuos4 tablet.  I absolutely loved the pens that come with the Wacom tablets have 2 buttons (usually a left and right click button), and I find it increasingly annoying to use CS5 without being able to have a pen button set to pan/scroll and the other set to brush options.  So basically I was wondering if anyone knows a pen in existence or in development that will be compatible with the x220 tablet that has these characteristics.  Of course it'd be grand if it fit in the pen slot on my laptop, but worst case scenario it doesn't.  Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Answer:Other pens for x220t?

The X220T uses the same Wacom pen as all other Wacom Enabled pens. (like Toshiba M200, many e-readers etc). These pens are not compatible with any of the recent Wacom tablets (like Graphice, Bamboo, Intuos etc).  I've seen many other pens for Wacom enabled tablets, but non of them had two buttons. I do not know whether this is even possible. The Dell Latitude Tablets use a pen with two buttons, but the small one just switches to earease function, it's not mappable.

I have been recording audio for my class lectures in onenote and the internal mic is very poor and captures way too much noise from the stylus. So I bought a little 3.5mm mini microphone thinking that I could just plug it into the headset jack and it would show up under recording devices... it does not. Does anyone know how I can set this up? Update: Found this thread which pretty much says I'll have to buy an adapter to make it work. Bummer.

Question: BSOD on X220t

Hello everyone I have an urgent problem with my X220 Tablets. I have bought 5 of them for my company.2 of them have been showing BSOD with stopcode:  0x000000F4. After searching on the internet, I found an article from Lenovo about this problem. Here is the article: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht062331 Apparently this was a known problem, an upgrade of the SSD firmware should help. But unfortunately, my X220 tablets don't have an optical Disc Drive, so I can't write the ISO firmware update to an CD/DVD.I tried to create a bootable USB disk with the Iso, but the tools that I used to create the bootable USB don't accept the ISO file to use. (I tried Windows 7 bootable USB tool and Rufus) Anyone else having the same problem? Other solutions ?

Question: X220T not booting

I have an X220T that will not boot and I am wondering where to go with it. It is out of warranty, I suspect the SSD is probably dead but not sure how I can know that for sure. Yesterday I had a load of Windows updates to apply, ran that, it rebooted, and then took a long time for the login screen to appear. When it did I got a couple of errors which I just had to dismiss and then it seemed to be working fine. A little later on it blue screened. I switched it off and then switched it back on. It gets to the Intel Boot Agent which I don't recall normally seeing, and starts searching I guess for a network boot drive? It then says "No boot filename resolved" and exits. I then come to a Boot Menu with options of the SSD, PCI LAN, DVD or my external drive. Selecting the SSD just makes the screen go blank for a few seconds and then the menu reappears. I tried booting from the Rescue and Recovery DVD, but selecting any recovery options don't work. If I select to recover files it doesn't show any files. In the System Information page, the processor, memory, everything is blank, the drive shows "not available". If it was just the drive saying that I would be confident it was the drive, but it all being blank makes me concerned there is more going on then that. I have a cable on the way so I can try and plug my SSD into a USB to see if it can be read by another computer, but don't want to spend a load of money on a new SSD (although I have been considering getti... Question: x220t frame

Hi! I bought my Lenovo x220t earlier this year, and I absolutely love it (finally upgraded from a 6 year old Dell laptop). However, right off the bat, I noticed a small crack on the plastic where the palm rests are. I don't apply too much pressure on it at all. from regular use nor did i really mind. However as time went on, the corner piece of the laptop started to crack as well and now it's fallen off including where the rubber cushion used to be. I have 3 year warranty with lenovo, and I was wondering if it was possible to get the outer plastic part replaced and how to do so. Thanks so much for your help! If you need, I would be able to provide pictures upon request!

Answer:x220t frame

If you bought it from Lenovo, call the number at support.lenovo.com.  If you bought it from a dealer, you may need to make your warranty claim through that dealer (I'm not sure about that).  I had a minor part break and they gave me the option to send it in,or they would (and did) ship me what I needed.  I had it the next morning! -JV474

Question: X220T not booting

This just started happening after using the laptop with no problems for about 8 months. Answer:x220t or the x220 best?

Depend on the application, personally i think the X220t offers more features i need but it also costs about 50% more (depending on the market and the time of the year) then the regular X220 of the same. If you can afford the X220t then go with it, if you can't then X220 is the better way to go.

Hi, My x220t took a massive tea spill. Fortunately, it still has all my data and operates normally... for the most part. I understand that it isn't covered by my warranty, but I was wondering if someone here could give me some really really rough projections as to what I'll have to be replacing and cost of repair, as I'm a college student and don't really have very much money to expend on repairs. From what I've heard, it could cost up to $1000 just replacing the screen, and it's sent me into a semi-panic.  Symptoms/The story:My laptop was on sleep mode at the time when the spill happened.Tea drained out of the keyboard, etc, but got into the monitor. You could see the tea streaks moving across the screen. Afterwards, I let my laptop dry before turning it back on again. At first, the monitor was working, but then the lights in the screen flashed and then I was notified that the USB was not recognized. After that, the screen wouldn't display any longer. I hooked up my laptop to an external monitor, which worked. Everything seemed fine, except sometimes, the keyboard would stop functioning and I'd be constantly routed to the ctrl-alt-del screen (where there are options to lock your computer, access the task manager, etc). Upon restarting, this problem goes away for awhile. The internet and usb ports themselves work fine. On occasion, the power button works, and the power button on the screen works as well.  In the mean time, I'm backing up my syste... Read more

Answer:X220t took a spill - Help?

it is hard to say what the cost of the repair would be, but if your damage was to the motherboard and the LCD, then it would cost upwards of 800 dollars for the repair. You can send the laptop in for a quote (which cost some mony), then decide what you should do with your laptop. Or just sell the laptop for parts and get a new laptop.

So yesterday I took out my X220T to do some work at my University here in Denmark. However when I took it out, I noticed that it had a crack on the lid, and I have no idea how i got it! The bag I carry it in, is pretty padded with protective foam, so it must have been something hitting it hard. Now I wonder; I've seen a lot of new lids on Ebay, and I've seen the maintenance manual for the X220T, however is it hard to replace the lid? I have some experience with electronics, however making my X220T completely useless by trying to repair it, is even worse My warranty expired half a year ago. Also will that crack eventually cause bigger problems?RegardsJacob

Answer:Cracked my lid on my X220T :(

The procedure doesn't take more than a few hours, but unsticking the Wifi antennas can be annoying. I don't think that crack will cause any problems in the future, it's a cosmetic defect.

I want to put a camera in my x220t, and see no problem buying one , but can it be installed in a x220t that originally did not have a camera? I can not find one article on how to install one into a x220t tablet. There is plenty of information about a standard x220 (non tablet) camera install, but none for the tablet version. It looks like mine just has a little plastic covering where the camera would go that I may need to take out somehow, and then I am not sure if the "hook up" is there for the camera or not on the motherboard.

Answer:How to add camera to X220T

HiI can't confirm whether the camera replacement procedure for x220 and x220t is absolutely the same because of the screen surface difference. But you can look at the service video for x220:https://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/showcase?sid=623&key=TGVuZw==Hardware Maintenance Manual for x220t says it's possible to install or replace the camera. There are no needs for additional cable from motherboard to install new camera. It's there already. The only obstacle prevents to install camera might be a wlan antennas type. For x220(t) antennas 3x3 doesn't allow to fit a new camera. This antennas type is being used for Intel 6300 wifi adapter. For new camera installation remove small plastic cover.

I used to own an S10-3T (Atom 455, bluetooth, 6 cell battery, Windows Home Premium, 2 GB)I gave that away to relatives. Now I have the X220T ( Intel i7, Windows 7 Pro). Pros of the S10-3T over the X220T:light weight and small enough to hold with one hand easily -- this is a fun, convenient form factor.amazing 7 hour battery life with the 6 cell batteryI was actually getting used to the smaller keyboardthe 6 cell battery formed a very convenient handle along the length at the back of the device, and was an excellent counter balance that prevents the laptop from tipping backward on one's lap.  I don't know why people trashed the look of the 6 cell and prefer it over the 3 cell.  The 6 cell is far more practical and useful and isn't that bulky or heavy. The instant boot utility was interesting, and the instant recovery button is a good idea. The price is competitive with the slates.  Frankly this device is a much better deal and more useful than a slate/iPad.Pros of the X220T over the S10-3TThe X220T cpu is a sports car.  HD video runs without a problem.  The S10-3t really struggles with 720p and higher.  Websites with HD video is no go, since these often use high compression algorithms that require a lot more CPU to decompress.  Since the S10-3T has a netbook class Atom CPU -- it's pretty weak -- that's the trade off for long battery life.  With tweaking the S10-3T was able to run 720p using windows media player or VLC player (hin... What is the difference between a 2x2 Broadband Antenna and a 3x3?  Does a 3x3 improve broadband performance enough to justify losing the webcam?3.)Will the standard North America 65W Country Pack AC Adapter and Cord also accept 220 volt input with a plug adapter, if I take it with me to Europe?4.) There are numerous superscript reference numbers throughout the customization form, but I cannot find the actual references anywhere.  Any idea where they might be hiding? I find the so called "Tablet tech specs PDFt"  to be more of a sales brochure than an actual data or technical specification sheet.  It's pretty much impossible to dig out achtual technical data, which is a real limitation when compared to most of the competition.  The Toshiba Notebook/Tablet has a whole lot more detailed techical data and specifications and at a considerably lower price. Lenovo is definitely 2nd tier in this area.  Are they ashamed of what their tablet has to offer, or am I just looking in the wrong place for detailed specifics?

Answer:X220T Questions

Not sure what you're looking at for specs, but here's the tabook.  x220 is at the bottom.

Hi everyone, I'm about to pull the trigger and buy an X220T with i7 and 4 GB RAM. I was hoping to get my first SSD hard drive, but I can't decide between getting the 160 GB Intel SSD (around $370 to upgrade, I believe) or getting the 320 GB HDD (which is currently free to upgrade to) and then getting an 80 GB mSATA in the WWAN slot (which looks, from the Lenovo support videos, fairly straightforward - do you guys think someone who's never taken apart/put together a laptop/computer before will be able to do this fairly readily?) Also, besides the Intel 80 GB mSATA (which appears to be sold out at Newegg...), are there any other 80 GB mSATAs out there that y'all would recommend? Another thing - I skimmed through the thread about mSATA/USB3.0/i7 incompatibility, but just to check, that should be fixed now, right? Also, i7 is the only core that comes with USB3.0 for the X220T, correct? Appreciate any advice/help!

Answer:X220T with [160 GB SSD] vs [320 GB HDD + mSATA]?

Sadly there is no USB 3.0 with the X220T even with the i7. I got caught with that too. There was some misinformation from official Lenovo sources, but only the i7 X220 laptop has USB 3.0. I am going with the 40GB intel mSATA but I haven't received mine yet. I realize it's slower than the 80GB but I'm looking at it solely for booting windows and office. This is the procedure that I am planning on employing, experts please point out flaws or provide suggestions. Hopefully this helps somewhat: This is the first time I will be installing a fresh copy of Windows 7. In preparation I have downloaded the Windows 7 iso HERE and created a boot drive on my USB stick with Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. I used a keyfinder to locate my Windows 7 key, Magic Jelly Bean. I also downloaded a copy of the ThinkVantage System Update for convenience later on. I will install the mSATA SSD and remove my existing HDD then boot the computer from my USB stick and go through the installation procedure. Once Windows 7 is installed I'll install the ThinkVantage System Update and cross my fingers that it finds all of the correct tablet drivers etc. I'll then reinstall and format the HDD.
