I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hey mcdaniel510,try uninstalling the current audio drivers that you have. let windows install its own generic audio drivers.test mic with Sound Recorder. later visit http://support.lenovo.com and instal the latest audio drivers and test again.

Hey all, I'm having trouble with the built in microphone and its software driver. The microphone definitely does work, but whenever I am calling people on skype, they have difficulty hearing me because the microphone levels seem to fluctuate a lot. Either I'm speaking too softly or too loudly. Anyone have suggestions on the settings I should use? The "smart audio" driver drives me crazy!

Answer:built in microphone for x200 tablet

I'm having the exact same issue.  When using Skype, people on the other end say they can't understand me, and when I listen back to audio recordings from class from within OneNote, 80% of the playback is so muddy that I can't make out what's being said.  Not sure if it's a hardware issue or the driver it's using.

When I use the X220 as a laptop I can duplicate the display through my SmartBoard projector but when I use it as a tablet and it is docked I have to turn the tablet and dock 180 degrees so I am not writing upside down on the smartboard;  that means the dock has the cables coming out the front.  I can undock and plug everything into the X220 but the beauty of the dock is that I don't have to!

I have a desktop that runs Windows 8.1. My x220 tablet runs Windows 7. I was thinking about getting a wacom bamboo tablet for my art in photoshop (which I make on my desktop... x220 isn't powerful enough for what I do in photoshop). Then I realized that my x220 tablet is kind of the same thing. Is there anyway I can connect my tablet to my desktop so that when I'm using photoshop, I can use the stylus on the tablet to control what I do? Many thanks in advance.

Hi all,    I have a really annoying problem...my x220 tablet disconnects from the internet whenever I enter tablet mode. The internet can be working perfectly fine while in non tablet mode but as soon as I switch to tablet mode, my internet disconnects. And if I switch back to non tablet mode from tablet mode, my internet returns almost instantaneously. I can load a page in non tablet mode with no problems, switch to tablet mode and the page stops loading. If I return back to non tablet mode the page resumes loading without so much as a pause or a hiccup. Also, when I switch the computer to tablet mode, wifi networks disappear off of the "available networks" list that were there before the switch.     I've tried everything, from updating network device drivers, reinstalling network device drivers, running diagnostics, reformatting my computer, uninstalling Norton Antivirus, system restoring to days before the last known working date in normal mode and safe mode, and contacting customer support (chat and call, managed to get a hold of a rep) but none of them have worked.    I also used to have a networking log before I reformatted/system reset to factory settings and there were a ton of errors with words like avsc manager failed to "something" ... I'll reinstall the thinkpad network managing program to create another log. Can someone please help me? My last resort is calling lenovo support again to have tech support come to hel... Read more

I have a new X220 Tablet, and the Pen and Tablet functions work perfectly out of the box as long as the unit is on the Ultrabase. As soon as I remove from the Ultrabase (or boot while not connected), the Pen & Tablet functions stop working. Conversely, if I dock the X220, the Pen & Tablet functions begin working again. The behavior is the same regardless of whether I have an external monitor attached or not. Any thoughts?

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver 8.15.10.2321) and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,

I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)

Download Power Manager here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014924

Download BIOS Update here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018805

In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.

Let me know if this helps.

The learning curve on this machine is steep if you want to take advantage of all the input options but I've put the time in and I'm starting to love it. There is one thing I wish Lenovo would address though. I see plenty of ThinkPad users with this problem going back to at least 2008, and no solutions forthcoming. The manual states: "On the display bezel near the screen is a row of buttons with which you can control your computer in the tablet mode, without the use of the keyboard."By default the buttons are set to turn your computer off, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, or rotate the screen 90 degrees. The manual goes on to describe how you can customize these buttons via the Tablet Shorcut Menu, which is accessed via Start > Programs > Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools > Tablet Utility. If you open this program you get a dialog box titled "Auto Screen Rotation Settings." This dialog controls what orientation the screen should switch to when you convert into tablet. So it really doesn't have anything to do with the buttons. The only dialog that allows any assignment of the tablet buttons is Windows Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings. Here the Buttons tab is supposed to list the actual buttons on the front panel and let you assign them, but the only one shown is the Screen Rotation button. This works fine, you can set the button's function for a single press and a long press. (Too bad it's not possible to use Shift by itself, but that is as-designed by MS.)It should go without sayi... I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work.

The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem. I can't seem to find a better driver though.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Hello I have a t61, and I am wondering how to disable the built-in microphone, and still being able to use my headset. It is rather troublesome to have a Skype conversation, and the other side being able to hear you type all the time, can anyone offer any ideas? I've searched Google and lenovo documentation but havent been able to find anything. Do i really have to take the machine apart and take out the microphone just to get rid of it? /tbell

Answer:Disable built in microphone, but still use microphone in headset

Sorry, I guess I can't answer your question directly, except to say something must not be working right. When I plug in an external microphone, the internal one mutes.  This is for a T60p running Windows Vista Business. If the computer isn't working correctly, another option might be to use a camera that has a built in microphone for Skype, or use a bluetooth microphone.  I have used my Jawbone for Skype calls, and it works very well, but it doesn't have a mute function.Don Mannino

Question: x220 tablet DOA.

So. I ended up, after about a month and a half of lurking on forums and reading reviews, purchasing an X220t with most of the bells and whistles, along with an extended next day onsite warrranty, extra pen, etc. I track it all the way from China on the UPS site every three hours. It has been an unhealthy obsession. And it arrived in the mail. Dead. Won't work. Won't boot. DOA (mostly. several indicator lights flash a bit, but I don't hear a HD, fans spinning, or screen turning on.)  I've talked with tech support (who did what they could [Nice people!]) but they were unable to get any immediate help or provide any advice beyond 'we'll call you'.Also, they couldn't find verification that I had a warranty for awhile. My concern is that this is for college, and I'll be going to school on the other end of the country (Colorado School of Mines!). And I'll be leaving shortly, and work has left me short on time, etc. So, how common is this? Should I try to get my money back and just buy a Fujitsu tablet, or something else from a retailer? There is always bragging about thinkpads being so tough, and mine is dead after a ride through UPS via Worldport. ( I know... could be any number of components that were dead to begin with, etc.) Are they just crap? I'm trying to keep it cool, but I just spent a whole lot of money, including on a warranty which is generally just gravy for most companies, and I've recieved a very pretty lump of plastic (again, I'm not an ent... Answer:x220 tablet DOA.

Sideburns, welcome to the forum,

I'm sorry to read about your experience, something like this must be a huge disappointment after having waited eagerly for the arrival of your new ThinkPad.

So far you seem to have handled the situation correctly and would ask you to take a look at this post in our FAQs; Mark's Advice About DOA systems.

I personally feel that in your situation, due to the time limitations you mention, the quickest route for you to persue would be with support and having the system repaired. Yes you have stong arguments to ask for a refund or an exchange system, but these could potentially take longer to realise than having the system repaired.

As to your question to how common this is; in my experience it's not at all common. I personally have been selling Think products for over 11 years and can count on one hand the number of systems I have seen which were literally DOA.

12.5" HD Multi WW 3x3 No Camera
Selecting this option may delay your shipment more than 4 weeks. Why even release a model when both screen options are delayed more than four weeks? It's a phantom launch. No real product is available. I first checked this an hour or two after "launch" so it's always been like this. This is rediculous and is just a cash grab with the idea "see! it's available, please don't give your money to another company". Don't release products you can't ship. Don't release products before every major option is available, i.e., Gorilla Glass, i5, i7 processors...

Answer:The x220 Tablet is not available

It's interesting that apparently the Canadian site actually tells you in advance that there will be a 4+ week delay. On the US site, none of the options have notices saying they may cause delays. The order says "ships in 8-12 business days" all the way up until you check out, at which point it changes to "estimated ship date" in 5+ weeks (5/27/11).

I'm unable to get the microhpone port to function whatsoever. I bought an adapter off Amazon that converts dual TRS jacks into a single TRRS port. This cable functions perfectly well on my smartphone, so I'm sure the cable is not to blame here.  When I initially hooked it up, the microphone appeared as a recording device in Windows' sound options, but for the life of me I could not get sound out of it. I tried every program I could think of, and even the speech recognition setup. No sound would come out.  Finally, I installed the Conexant driver for the x220, figuring this would fix the problem. Instead, the recording device totally disappeared when I rebooted. Windows will no longer recognize the microphone at all.  Who has had these problems, and how did you fix them?  And may I suggest to Lenovo to avoid such annoyances in the future. This combo port has led to a deal of frustration in finding an adapter, and having to jump through loops to get it to function. It's little annoyances like this that detract from a product.

I updated my X220 to Win8.1 relatively recently, and aside from battery issues, I thought everything was OK. Unfortunately, I've come to realize that there seem to be issues with the microphone. I'm not sure if these are related to the Win8.1 update or could possibly be hardware issues instead. Basically, there appear to be two issues:1) The microphone quality is terrible. When sitting normally in front of my laptop and attempting to do a sound recording (or be on a VoIP call via Google Hangouts, RingCentral, or Skype), practically nothing I say is picked up by the microphone.2) The mute microphone button above the keyboard doesn't seem to work anymore - or even light up when it is being pushed.Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi all, Am I correct to understand that the X220's built-in SDHC reader is on PCIe, rather than USB2? For example, if I were to use one of the fast 200x SDHC cards (such as SanDisk Extreme) -- would I get the full benefit of that card in the X220's SDHC reader? Hi guys, New x220 tablet. Has been working fine, left it for the weekend and coming back to it this morning it will not bootup. Is built with Windows 7 and I had the full functionality of the biometrics running and sync'd with drivelock/bios password. On trying to boot this morning using the power button, I press it once, the button lights green (around edge), for a second, then disappears, the biometric light goes green for a second then disappears.  Nothing else happens from there. Have tried the usual - battery replaced, booting on just power etc but same happens.  I cannot hear or feel the hdd spinning (i have an identical model also which is working fine). Have searched through the forums and inet but cannot find any issues relating to the light sequence etc (wondering if it had a specific sequence to tell me what the errors are).... Suspect HDD has gone as it is just not spinning, but cannot be sure as I cannot get to BIOS or anything else..... Any ideas?

Answer:x220 Tablet will not bootup

Edited to add: I swapped hdd out and put it in identical tablet - HDD seems to work fine. Popped it back into the offending tablet, tried to switch power on and the green light around power button alternates with biometric light (on and off) for around 30 seconds and ends up with biometric light green and power light off.... Also swapped out memory - still nothing - no access to BIOS etc - no warning beeps...

I have a x220 tablet with SSD.Need a little more space, so was thinking of adding a mSATA SSD. Will want to continue to use my "regular" SSD as my boot and just use mSATA for storage (run VMs off it so need speed). I don't think there are any issues but figure was worth asking.  Moved to correct forum.

Answer:X220 Tablet - SSD and mSata SSD

no real issues. But the mSATA is only SATAII, whilst the main hdd bay operates at SATAIII.

I'm configuring an order for a maxed x220 tablet. I really want a large (512gb or higher SSD). Since that's not a factory option I guess I'll have to go aftermarket, open the case and do a home upgrade. I've done plenty of drive upgrades before but not an SSD.My review of message board makes it seem like there can be fit problems with some SSDs in the x220, and that with SSDs in general you should do a clean install and not a full clone (with OS).  That always raises issues with drivers and QA'ing the install to make sure you got it all back to factory fresh. I've read the posts about using a smaller SSD in the extra slot as a boot drive and keeping files on HDD, but I would really like to have everything on the faster media. So my question is, are there any x220 tablet owners out there that have self-installed large SSDs. Any tips, warnings or reassurances? Thx

Answer:x220 tablet and large SSD

HI,  I installed Intel 320 SSD (160 Gb) and used Acronis to clone the previous drive. It worked well. What may be of greater interest to you, is that I had to remove a black spacer attached to the SSD to make it 7mm from 9.5mm.  It can be easily done with Intel SSDs (except 510, I think), but you will have to order shorter screws online. Just search Google or this forum for screws for Intel SSD. Good luck!

I just purchased X220 Tablet. While purchasing I was made to understand that the system comes with Mobile Broadband Ready. However I am unable to use  my SIM card. I have inserted the SIM in the slot underneath the Battery, as was mentioned in the manual. But it does not work, no internet connection and in Access Connection the Mobile Broadband button is greyed. Can some one explain reason? I am able to use the sim with the pocketwifi, the tablet is able to detect through wifi but I wanted my 3G to be inthe laptop so taht I don;t have to use pocketwifi or USB dongle.

Hi everyone I have had a Lenovo X220 tablet for a while now. I bought it on eBay. I can't send it to lenovo to fix, of course. My config (currrent):Win 8.1 pro (legal)Sandisk 128gb SSDLenovo 2x4 gb ram My problem is the following: as some in this forum experienced too, it just reboots randomly for no reason. It goes "clic", black screen and back to bios then OS.The behavior is the exact same as if you kept the power button pressed until it reboots. What I've been testing so far:- Switching OS (I've tested win7, win8, ubuntu, debian, elementaryos, archlinux)- Switching HDD (one SSD, one HDD)- Switching ram (removed one, removed the other, switched positions)- Flashing the bios, upgrading, downgrading it)- Watching the CPU, fan, temp: all normal. For some reason the best experience was with Windows 8.What could it be? I used lenovo diagnostics tools downloaded from their official site, but the only one that works is memorytest (which proved to be ok) I don't want another computer, I love that one and I don't want to change. Some people mention driver issues (graphics card, power management, stylus)... Could you please, please, help me? I don't know what to do anymore. And I don't have the money to get another computer right now. I am a teacher and I draw comics as a hobby and I need my lenovo to ink and color my work.  I'm fairly aware as to informatics, I know how to create live usbs, I know how to uninstall / reinstall drivers, I know how to use m... The truth is I don't know whether I should get a X220 tablet or standard X220.  I just think the tablet thing could be fun when reading, sorting and editing photos, etc., and I'd still have a X220 if it turns out to be useless.  Is this a correct assumtion? =)I've seen X220 tables come with an UltraBase and a DVD-RW drive.  I'd like a setup where I have some sort of docking station at my desktop were I can attach to a larger (DisplayPort) monitor, a keyboard, scanner, etc, and quickly snap my pc out for mobile work, preferably with the option of having a DVD-drive attached.  Would a X220 tablet with the UltraBase fit in the Dock or should the UltraBase be removed first?  Can the UltraBase be seen as a portable clip-on DVD-drive or should it be regarded as an alternative to a Dock?  Or put in a use-case:  I have my X200 tablet with the UltraBase and drive.  Can I quickly click this in the Dock and continue (say) watching DVD on my monitor?  Or do I have to move all cables from the Dock to the UltraBase?  Same for standard X220?What's the max output when connected to a UltraBase and/or Dock?  Or put in a different way: Can the X220 tablet fully use a 1920x1200 monitor?  What's the max resolution?  Same for standard X220?Where can I find jucy specs like these?  The standard white paper only shows very brief defails and only for the laptop's own screen.I seems like there are two versions of the X220 tablet disp... Answer:Questions regarding X220 tablet before I buy one

1. That is "correct" but it would also be "expensive." The tablet is several hundred dollars more expensive for a feature you may never use.2. The UltraBase IS a dock. And for the tablet, it is the ONLY dock. It is technically portable but I wouldn't recommend carrying it around. As far as I know, the X220 without tablet has other options, but you wouldn't be able to use an UltraBase and a dock at the same time.3. The tablet can handle 1920x1200 and higher, but I haven't personally tested beyond 1920x1080 (my monitor is an HDTV which only goes up to 1080p). 5. The Gorilla glass is only on the outdoor model. It does not support two finger touch. Both displays have stylus input. 7. Ignoring the weight difference, the experience should be identical, although I haven't tested this myself. I would recommend against getting a tablet. I and many others are having great issue with the accuracy of the stylus input.

I tried using the registry hack in Windows 8 to stop my battery charging higher than 95%, and was sucesful. however this has also had the effect of meaning that when I plug the charger in when the laptop is on, it says "plugged in, not charging". If I turn the laptop off, or put it into Standby, then plug the charger in, it starts charging fine and continues to do so after turning it back on. I have tried re-installing Windows 8.1 (and not installed any of the power management drivers) incase it was a driver problem, however this has not fixed it. If there is some way to completly reset the battery controller (i'm not sure if the chip that does this is in the battery of laptop) then I would be very glad to know.

I just got an X220 Tablet, with windows 7 pro. When I turn on the autolock (with integrated camera) function, it freezes the trackpoint and touchpad after I re-login. This is really sucks and I have to restart the computer to fix this. Do any of you guys have the same problem? I guess Lenovo should fix the bug.

Answer:X220 Tablet: Autolock bug

I tried this on X220 tablet and could not find any problem like you say.  Do you have any more details?
- Does this always happen when autolock locks the system, or does it only happen sometimes?
- Does this happen if you press WindowsKey-L to lock the system?
- What version of autolock do you have installed?  You can find it in control panel -> programs -> programs and features

Answer:PLEASE HELP - Should I buy Tablet or Standard X220?

tablet allows you to directly write on the screen or use your finger as an input device (if you select the multitouch option), so if you have need for such feature, then the tablet obviously will the best choice. If you don't use the handwriting or touch screen option, then the normal x220 laptop is better, as it is slightly lighter than the tablet model and also slightly more rugged due to the different hinge design.

First of all, so far as I know, my upgrade to Windows 10 worked very well and I really like the new OS. The only problem I'm having is that my mic won't work. It shows it as being installed and functioning properly but I can't utilize it anywhere in the system. The driver is the Contexant 20672 SmartAudio HD.  When I go to "Set up a microphone" is says "The wizard could not start. Make sure your hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel." My mic is enabled and the volume is up. Any ideas?

Answer:X220 microphone not working after Windows 10

HiWhile there is an issue with Conexant drivers for win10, probably the fastest way is to use Dolby Home Theatre 4 application. It supports Conexant audio chip and works w/o manufacturer drivers.DHT could be found on the Lenovo support site since a lot of laptops has that app preloaded. Also, there are threads on the forum about DHT and presets for certain laptop models and audio chip. Note, I don't know anything whether DHT supports win10.

Ever since my laptop got a motherboard replacement a few weeks ago, the internal microphone has stopped working. I have installed the most recent conexant audio drivers (8.32.23.5), uninstalled and re-installed them, and uninstalled and tried using microsoft audio drivers. None of these strategies have worked. Furthermore, in the control panel -> sound -> recording tab, it shows a "docking microphone (conexant 20672 smartaudio HD)" rather than an "internal microphone". In the properties page, it also lists the "jack information" of this device to be a "LR rear panel 3.5mm jack". I think the "docking mic" device is actually supposed to be the jack for the docking station that goes with the x220 laptop, however I have never plugged the laptop into a docking station before. There is no listing for an "internal microphone" in the recording tab of the sound page. Based on this information, would it be logical to assume there is either some hardware issue with the internal microphone itself, or that the microphone isn't plugged into the motherboard properly? If it's not plugged in correctly, how much would I have to disassemble the laptop in order to plug it back in?

Answer:x220 internal microphone not working

Hey there hitokirix,

That sounds like it could definitely be a hardware issue, since it's not showing in the Sound Menu.

Here's the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the X220.

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/0a60739.pdf

Also, have you tried calling Lenovo back? They might be able to assist you, depending on how long 'a few weeks' is.

I have had this lapop since October 2011. It was great for a a few months, but Febuary came and I noticed that the right side of the LCD covers is separating and I could see the inside light! Ive taken care of this laptop like it was my baby!!! I waited till it was summer to have it repaired since I needed a laptop for school. Anyway, I sent in my laptop a couple of days ago (for a totally different issue) and I decided to include a note addressing this issue. So I received my laptop today with it still not being repaired.

I have a 3 year depot warranty with the Thinkpad Protection Service. I thought that by having that TPS, they would at least fix the problem... and they didn't. I am so frustrated. My dell laptop that's been here for almost 3 years hasn't had this issue in terms of built and the reason why I bought a Lenovo is because I thought that built wise, they are durable... I am mistaken! What should I do??? Light coming out of my screen is very distracting and annoying and is causing white spots and light bleeding on my screen!!

anybody else having this problem?

Answer:x220 Tablet - Integrated Webcam Help

Hi, Maryd1621

What exactly happens when you attempt to use the integrated camera? Which programs have you tried using the camera with? As for the driver, click here for the camera driver for Windows 7, Vista, and XP. If you are using Windows 8, there is not an updated driver on the website, but the default driver built in to the machine should work fine.

Hi, Does anyone have a suggestion for a good sleeve for the X220 Tablet with a 6-cell battery? There is a thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/What-case-sleeve-do-you-use-for-your-X220/m-p/... for the X220, but if I've understood things correctly the tablet X220 is not quite the same size as the non-tablet version. Personally I'm looking for a simple, cheap and discreet sleeve that fits the machine quite snugly. Thanks.

In the end I bought one from a store and so could try them out. The Targus SKIN laptop case, 34cm/13.4", fits my X220 tablet with 6 cell battery perfectly, and seems well-made. It was 14 in store, so relatively cheap.

Hello,In January, I upgraded the hard drive in my X220 Tablet and installed Windows 8 to the new hard drive.  Since doing so, I've been having trouble with the Wi-Fi on the computer.  It does this thing from time to time (a few times a week) where the Wi-Fi just cuts out, and doesn't think any networks are available, although the networking adapter is enabled.  Usually I can fix things by disabling and enabling the networking adapter a few times, but I'm getting tired of having to do this.  The problem is entirely with the computer, and not with my network, as it will do this on number of different networks, and the problem is not with the networking components.   Has anyone else had similar issues?  Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it?

Hey guys! So I have had my tablet now for about 3 weeks or so and since the past week or week and a half I've noticed that the computer takes a long time to start up.  From when I turn the power on to when I get the Lenovo Thinkpad display is within a few seconds which is the norm.  However it takes quite a while, about 30 to 45 seconds for the log on screen to show up and then about the same for everything to be fully loaded and ready to go.  I will also check the log on times again and update the next time I boot up. Intel i7-2620320 GB hard drive8GB ram Any info is helpful and thanks in advance.

Answer:X220 Tablet slow startup

ok here are the official times for startup. power on to thinkpad logo 8-10 secstarting windows at the 20 sec markwindows log on page at 1min 20 sec markall icons loaded and ready to go at 3 min 20 sec mark Everything else about the computer is great and  once its on its runs super fast and I don't have any problems other than having to manually downloading the ultranav driver because it mysteriously went away.  I'm just a little frustrated with the abnormally long start up time.

Hi,I'm not seeing X220 T listed by Lenovo in laptops-windows 10 compatibilty list...??? Is that right? Mine is a 3 years old system... I can't believe is not going to be possible to use Windows 10... Anyone has tried it?Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 support for X220 Tablet

Hello,

It may work fine with Windows 10, however, I don't believe its generation of CPU, IGP and chipset are supported by Intel for Windows 10, which means that Lenovo can't support them, either.  For what it is worth, I installed Windows 10 on a ThinkPad X61t and didn't notice any issues, and that has been out of support for a much longer time than your X220t.

That said, it could be that Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 drivers for the various bits of silicon inside your X220 tablet may work just fine under Windows 10, in which case you would be up and running.

The best suggestion I have is to make a thorough backup of your X220 and then try applying the Windows 10 Upgrade.  If it doesn't work, you will be able to wipe the drive and then reload your backup.

Is the ExpressCard slot on the X220 Tablet 2.0 or not? I have looked at the new Lenovo Tabook PDF and all it specified was that it was compatable with both the 34mm and 54mm slot standards. I wish to buy a USB 3.0 ExpressCard but only if I know the slot on the X220 Tablet can provide the full throughput of an ExpressCard 2.0 slot.

The graphics chipset in the x220 only supports two active displays, including the one in the laptop itself.  You would need a USB video adapter or similar external solution to run three displays.

Hello Everyone! I am having inconsistent performance with my Lenovo X220 Tablet/Notebook and the Ultra Series 3 Docking station.  Occasionally, I am able to boot the system from the docking station and sign on through my external keyboard and monitor.  However, sometimes I must open the tablet up and turn on from the laptop itself, when this occurs, if I close the laptop lid, it turns the system off.  The most recent issue I've had when downloading drivers and other tasks that required rebooting the computer, when attempting to restart the computer in the docking station is not possible, i.e., not from the docking station and not from the computer.  In these instances I have had to remove the computer from the docking station to restart and then place it back into the docking station once Windows has started.  Again, with this type of start-up, I must keep the tablet open to keep it powered on. Is there a specific "docking mode" control somewhere on the computer so that when I'm using the docking station I don't have to go through these different steps to start up the computer?  I was unable to find any solutions to this in the user manual and I searched this site and did not find anyone else having similar problems - so I'm guessing there is a simple solution that I'm unaware of. Thank you for any assistance provided!

Did you ever get any help on this?  I am having the EXACT SAME ISSUES!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone I like the x220, but there are 2 things that are bothering me1 - the pen-at-the-edge issue2- the awkwardness of the battery I have another week to decide if I'm going to send this back.  I'd be content to hold onto the unit, but I just want to know if anybody has any experience with the Fujitsu lifebook tablets (eg. t901, t731, etc).  Are these issues any different on these computers?    I'm guessing the stylus thing is universal, but maybe it's just something lenovo hasn't sorted out yet.  thanks

Answer:x220 compared to fujitsu tablet

Hi,

I don't have any experience with Fujitsu tablets, but I do with Lenovo's and hp's.  I've seen this problem in different degrees on all of them so it seems to be the same across the board.  We've tried different drivers and sometimes something works and sometimes it doesn't.  I know on mine it works the best right after a clean install of the os.  Then when I do all the windows updates, it steadily gets worse. All my tablets are older ones though.

The x220 stylus issue is in engineering right now and we should hear something back in a couple of days.

I've seen people putting 3 cell batteries in the x220 to give it a nice clean look and feel, but that will decrease the battery life.

If you like your x220, I'd give it a couple of days and see what engineering comes up with.  Lenovo does do a pretty good job of fixing problems.

Answer:X220 tablet crashing after startup

Hi, cegarrabrant

I'd like to ask you a few questions to better understand your issue in its entirety?

1) How long have you had this machine?
2) How long have you been having this issue?
3) Could you possibly recreate the error and copy down the error that pops up following startup when "something hasn't saved?"

Knowing these facts will allow the community to gain greater knowledge of the issue and possibly lead to a speedier resolution.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hi guys, this is my first post here.I'm really considering buying one of these for note taking and after reading many glowing reviews I'm close to set on it. However, while doing my research on the tablet I stumbled upon issues regarding palm rejection and problems with the digitizer's precision on the edges of the screen. This is my first time venturing into the tablet world, so I'm not sure if the complaints that I'm reading about truly wreck the user experience, or if the complaints are being exaggerated (for lack of a better word) by tablet connoisseurs who expect nothing less than perfect from Lenovo. Specifically, my questions are:1) As a student who will be using it mostly with OneNote, how glaring are these problems? Is palm rejection as terrible as people say it is or can it be simply solved by putting the digitizer on the screen before setting your palm down?2) And as for menu buttons on the edge of the screen, is it really that tough to get to them? Does using your finger to press the menu buttons on the edge of the screen serve as a good workaround for this problem?3) I read somewhere that the "edge issue" is more of a problem during landscape orientation as opposed to portrait. Is this true?4) Have the previous Lenovo tablets suffered from similar issues and were they addressed with driver updates? That is, should I expect these issues to eventually be fixed?5) How do the X201 tablet and X200 tablet compare to the X220 tablet when it comes to these issues? Were t... Read more

Answer:Seriously considering an X220 Tablet for medical school

Hi crushkilla and welcome to the forum,

I think I can answer some of your questions but first I just want to point out that people posting on help forums are not posting the virtues of the machines, they're posting their problems. People rarely post how happy they are with their machines. So, if you consider the ratio of complaints with the number of machines sold, well, you see what I'm getting at, right?

The "edge"  issue has been around as long as tablets have been around in one form or another.  I have 4 x41ts and they're off "a little" at the edges. I have an hp tablet and it's off "a little" at the edges.  At the edges if you hold the pen perpendicular to the screen it works better. They're not off that much.

I've tried different pens and they all work pretty much the same.  The thing with Lenovo is that issues do get fixed. They don't sweep them under the rug.

The more I use a tablet, the more I like it.  I never had an issue pressing on the menu buttons with the pen.

Hey folks, I've upgraded my X220 Tablet to W8 when it has been released. All is running fine. Okay, I deinstalled PC Doctor and several other Lenovo apps which are supported for W7 only but this has not been a lack for me. Since two days, after using the tablet functionality (touch + pen) the touchpad and trackpoint didn't work any more. Had that some time ago, when I suspended the machine in tablet-mode. Afterwards the touchpad and trackpoint were disabled. I could enable both by hitting FN+F8. But this shortcut doesn't work any more. Does anyone know, how to restore the FN+F8 shortcut? I found out the application behind the FN+F8 key can be found in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\UltraNav Utility\UNAVOSD.exe UPDATE: Driver version is already at 16.2.19.2. cheerskyoshiro

Hi, I just realized that their won't be any usb 3.0 port on the x220 tablet. Does anzone knows the reason? Will it be possible to customize it and inset this port? Thanks-ludide

Answer:X220 tablet --- no usb 3.0 port serial

I hope you're wrong. That would simply be the straw that beaks the camel's back. As if 16:9 screen wasn't bad enough. From what I've understood previously, USB 3.0 was supposed to be an option. But now I checked the recent tabook and indeed I can't find any mention of USB 3.0 in X220T. That's just retarded.

The main reason why I chose the x220 tablet was for school purpose. Most of my classes are notes you buy from the teacher (40-50$ a booknote) or powerpoints which I have to print out (Around 800 powerpoint pages, 400 papers per class). So thread is a good thread for all the students out there.  I was a big fan of Asus for their good quality hardware and for their EEE pc brand. I had a netbook, with a 10 hours battery life. So battery was my main concern at that time. I was bringing it in the lab and loved it for its small size and long life battery. Then one day, I saw a new product from Asus at CES 2010, the ep121. I was like ?wow, that tablet would be great for school!? I then did some research to find out more about it. That?s where I found the poor 3 hours battery. So I continued my research to find a tablet that would fill in this job. That?s when I found out about lenovos thinkpad tablet. I was impressed about the overall laptops but the x220 tablet stood out? 19 hours battery? I couldn?t find anything better. So I ordered it. For all the students who think 1300$ is expensive, let me tell you this. How much do your texts books cost? From my experience, I spend 1-2 reference book, 3 text book and lots of prints out a semester. My spending would be around 200-300 $ every semester. Right now, with my tablet, I?m not buying or printing anything for school. I borrow my friend?s books, scan them (process that takes haft an hour per text book) a... Read more

Answer:Why I chose thinkpad: x220 tablet

Thanks for the student's perspective. I'm currently waiting for mine and plan on using it in class as well. My previous setup was an SL410 with a Wacom Bamboo, so I can appreciate how awesome it is to cutout the paper from note taking process. I didn't progress quite as far as you with scanning textbooks though... baby steps I guess. As for the Fn key, I read that you can change that in the BIOS. I'm sure someone more computer literate has already outlined exactly how to do this on the X220t. Not sure if the keys themselves are swappable though...?

My doughter's laptop falled down from the table what caused that the LCD is not working correctly. It lights a little bit, but stays almost dark. I checked the LCD, and it looks that the one is OK (I put it into another X220 t and it works. So it looks that there's something different broken (also I mounted the correctly working LCD from another X220 t into the one and doesnt work either). What could it be? Where should I find the reason of that? Could it be something with the motherboard or what? As mentioned before, the LCD lights a little bit, but doesn't show anything, stays dark (a little lighter than as is OFF).

Answer:Lenovo X220 tablet LCD backlight.

I'm guessing you blew a fuse on the motherboard.  They are VERY fast burning fuses and easy to blow.  Unfortunately, most places cannot fix that sort of problem without replacing the board.

I just got my tablet yesterday. And there is already 1 problem. The pen keeps clicking continously when it hovers a few milimeters above the screen. This makes it impossible to write or draw anything. I did a lot of research on this issue and saw a lot of people having the same hovering problem with no real solution. I tried everything they suggested but still not working properly. I replaced the pen tip, I updated everything, disable eraser problem, etc... But the pen is still malfunctioning. I am very frustrated thinking about return the product. Please someone help me out. I appreciate it very much.

Answer:X220 Tablet, Pen Hovering Problem

You should probably return it, this sort of behavior happens when there is a strong electromagnetic field nearby to interfere with the pen signal, or something wrong with the pen itself. Try with a different pen if you have access to one.

I am looking into docking solutions for the X220T.  I currently use the ThinkPad X220 Tablet with Windows 7 64-bit, but it is possible I may run Ubuntu on a partition in the future.  Is it possible to dual monitor with X220T on Windows 7 and/or Ubuntu using the ThinkPad Port Replicator Series 3 or the ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3?  Which would provide more functionality in this regard? I am new to this forum, but thank you in advance for any advice. It is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Dock/Port for X220 Tablet

Hello filled_empty,
If you wanted to go with the Port replicator you would need dongles, and or a type of converter to the type of wire you need.
This would probably be the cheaper way to go if you were looking to save money.

The UltraBase or Dock will usually have the ports you need already on it. This includes but is not limited to VGA, DVI connectors, usb, etc. This is a little higher in price but Personally I think the dock is the way to go on this.  No converters or dongles needed.  The Dock is, in my opinion, the way to get more functionality with adding multiple monitors.

You also asked about the dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Yes, this is possible with your Laptop.

I hope this helps,

Alex

I recently bought a used Thinkpad 220 Tablet. It has a 500 MB hard drive and Windows 7. I would like to perform the free upgrade to Windows 10 as well as replace the hard drive with a SSD. I have a couple of questions: I went to the Windows 10 upgrade site and downloaded the 64 bit version and burnt it to a DVD. However, where do I find my registration key? Do I just use my Windows 7 one? If I go ahead and replace the hard drive (with the SSD), can I just go ahead and install Windows 10 - instead of having to copy everything over to it from the old hard drive (with Windows 7) first? That would be my preferred route. (However, will need the key). What about the IBM diagnostic partittion - what should I do in terms of this? It would be nice to be able to perform backups, or return to the original config. Any tips, thoughts, pointers, or otherwise much appreciated in advance. Thanks,Jon

Answer:X220 Tablet - install SSD then Windows 10 from DVD?

Hello and welcome,

The way I read the documentation:  run the upgrade first from within your running Windows 7.  That should activate Win 10 and the activation status will be recorded on the Microsoft servers.  Once that's done you can do a clean '10 install - either on your existing drive or on the new SSD and activation should be retrieved automatically from the server.

BTW, I've moved your post to the X tablet forum.
