X220 Tablet Fingerprint reader for Windows Login not working

Question: X220 Tablet Fingerprint reader for Windows Login not working

Hi, I just received my new x220 tablet with multi-touch screen with fingerprint ID option. Well, when you power it up, windows 7 prompts for a finger print read but no matter how many times I swipe it, it does not work. then when I 'type' my password to enter, and power up the think advantage finger print sw 5.9.5, it works like a charm. Any fixes out there? Why have a finger print reader if it does not work... Thanks, Ken

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just received a new x220 tablet, and the fingerprint reader is not working. As far as I can tell, it has never worked. It does not show up in the bios, and it does not show up in the Windows device manager. It is as if the hardware is not there. Is this a hardware defect? Has anyone else experienced this type of issue?

Answer:x220 tablet fingerprint reader not detected in bios or Windows

It is hard to diagnose from across the country, but there are 3 parts involved - the fingerprint device itself, the cable and the USB hub circuitry on the motherboard. (fingerprint connects as a USB device) You might try to upgrade the BIOS to the latest.   If you have a warranty, use it. If you bought with no warranty, all you can do is check for an unplugged cable and start swapping parts, but don't open it up if there is a warranty. You could turn an expensive repair into being your problem.

Hi everyone, this is my first post/question.  I am hoping someone can tell me that it is possible to add on the fingerprint reader that was optional at the time of purchase of my X220 Convertible Laptop/Tablet.  I foolishly assumed (as I've never needed/wanted one before) that I had no use for the fingerprint reader.  It occurs to me, however, after many logins at the windows screen, every single time the computer comes back from sleep, that it would be very useful and convenient.  I am regretting having decided not to get it (it was only $20, so it was really stupid not to).Any information would be helpful, but if adding the reader is possible, a part number would be great.  I appreciate any help you may be able to give me, and thank you for reading, and especially if you reply!Peter

Answer:Wish to get X220 Convertible Tablet Fingerprint Reader

I have no idea if it can be done or not.  My advice would be to call Lenovo directly and ask them.  It may be that it can be added, but not by the end user, because it looks like the bottom piece of plastic on the screen would need to be changed and I doubt that is considered to be a user serviceable part.  So, even if it can be done, you might have to take it to a Lenovo service center to get it done.  If I were you I wouldn't kick myself that much if you are only worried about windows logins.  The primary reason I got mine was to use as an access point to an eWallet type program that contains credit cards, passwords, etc.  There is a program that ships with the machine that is supposed to work for finger swipe type web site logins.  However, I have some concerns.  I haven't been able to find any good documentation on it for things like exporting the data to be used by another program, transferred to a new computer, or just exported to text to go back to the old way of typing things in.  I just don't want to get locked into a specific program and if I can't export everything to at least text, it means that I will need to keep copies of everything somewhere else, which kind of defeats half of the purpose.  Anyway, I hope things work out for you and that others respond.

Hello,I've just bought my new tablet and, overall, I a very impressed with its features. One feature I thought was particularly cool was the fingerprint reader to log on. Sadly, the software didn't come with laptop and, when searching "fingerprint" in Start and scanning over the control panel, it was not there. I have read most of the discussios here concerning my problem, but found no answers and searched everywhere suggested. I then installed the driver from the lenovo site and got as far as the screen with a hand to register one of your fingerprints, clicked the thumb icon and it said that there was no such device detected on my laptop. I was hoping to get it working soon but if I can't find a solution it doesn't matter - It's not absolutely essential/urgent. I was just a little disappointed that the device did not work. Thanks in advance for any help, Doug.

Answer:Fingerprint reader on new thinkpad tablet X220 "not detected"

hey DB-1618,welcome to the forums and for this, could you check at Device Manager and see if the fingerprint device is listed in it? It should be under biometrics.if it is there, uninstall it and then let windows install its generic drivers. restart your unit and reinstall the software which you got from the Lenovo Support Site

Hey there Lenovo team. Thanks for the great product. I am having one heck of a time with my fingerprint reader on my brand new X220 Tablet.  After successfully registering the fingerprint, I was able to power on using the reader but the login screen does... nothing.  The "Swipe on the green..." never goes away but the finger reader indicator light does do it's blinking (as if it had a good read). Just ot make sure I am clear, the system powers on fine but does not login in using the fingerprint, there is no response from the OS.  I am able to use my password to login fine. I am on Win7 x64 SP1 with _all_ the latest installs and drivers for both Windows and System Update (Lenovo).  Any thoughts?  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, etc etc... but nothing seems to work for me. I'd be less confused (and more certain of a hardware fault) if the fingerprint registration failed! Last thought is that I transferred my settings over from a Lenovo X200 Tablet (Win 7 SP1 x86) using Windows Easy Transfer.  Perhaps a registry setting came over that screwed the pooch?  Please... help! Thank you! Moderator edit: Matched subject to content.

Under your ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software > Settings, make sure you have ticked the 3 boxes under the "Power-On Security" setting. I had the same problem where after enrolling my fingerprint, I was unable to power-on my X220 with just a fingerprint swipe. Hope it works out for u! Cheers!

I cannot get the fingerprint reader to work for logging into Windows 8.1 on my brand new T440s.  I have no problem registering my fingers in Fingerprint Manager Pro (v8.01.67 (x64)).  But when I try  to login with the finger print reader, I get any of these messages: A match for the fingerprint was not found in the fingerprint databaseUse a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprintThere was a problem scanning your fingerprint.  Try again...I have installed all updates (BIOS, Fingerprint Manager Pro, ...) via Lenovo System Update. I am just logging into Windows itself, not into a domain or a workgroup. I tried setting up the fingerprint reader via the Windows fingerprint enrollment utility, as suggested in this forum entry , but it made no difference. I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling the fingerprint drivers & utility software, since it was just updated via Lenovo System Update.  Should I? So I'm looking for some help.

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working for login on Windows 8.1 on T440s

I can only think of 2 possibilities:

1.  there is something wrong with your fingerprint scanner hardware
2.  (I don't mean to insult you) you're using it wrong

Don't get me wrong, #1 is a very real possibility but for #2 are you enrolling/swiping your finger in a single smooth motion like shown in the video?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HRhJHZJoSg

I have read through the entire thread that currently exists on this topic and the last post states that the newer laptops do not have a fix for this issue. Is Lenovo working on a fix and actively including the fix in new models coming out? I have a W540 and would really appreciate a patch for this problem.

Hi.  I upgraded my x200 tablet 7450-W6X to Win 7 and now the fingerprint reader is not working.  I installed the software from the lenovo website and also via lenovo update.  when I try and enroll a finger it says:  Cannot communicate with the sensor.  Make sure the sensor is ready.  Any ideas as to the problem?  It worked find with Vista Business.  I"m using Win 7 Pro now.

Answer:Fingerprint Reader not working Win 7 x200 tablet

I found a curious work around.  I tried all the various combinations of drivers available on this site and in desperation tried a AES2810 driver from DELL.  So here is what you do:  Search for and download this file from DELL:  R207052.exe and put someplace such as your desktop.  It is 14,712,832 byte file.  Then uninstall the Authentec Biometric Device in Device Manager and then delete then in Control Panel under uninstall programs, uninstall the Authentec Truesuite application and then uninstall the Lenovo Fingerprint software and reboot.  Once rebooted, install the DELL software.  Go to Device Manager and under Biometric Devices, click on Enroll Fingers and it will bring up the DELL software which will allow you to enroll fingers.  Reboot and low and behold you will swipe your enrolled finger and VIOLA, no more typing in password to log on to Win 7.  I do not work for Lenovo(obviously)I do not work for DELL PS: it only allows you to log on to Windows.  It does not have a scroll feature in things like internet explorer.

Hi,I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available. It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.Any ideas other than hardware? Thanks,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

When rebooting my machine this morning, at the login screen there was a message about a service not starting.  Since then my system immediately goes to the standard windows 7 login and the fingerprint reader is not enabled. I checked the Fingerprint software settings, and the checkbox to "Use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows" is set. The windows service "Secondary Login" was turned off.  I tried turning that on with no effect. Does anyone know how to get the fingerprint scanner working again?

Answer:Fingerprint Reader stopped working for login

quick question for you. Did you by any chance update the fingerprint software via windows update? I remember doing that once, and it totally fubarred my system. the only solution was to uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall the drivers from lenovo

I have a Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) system that until recently worked just perfectly. After I know not what - I have checked the Windows Update log, etc. - now, when booting, when the system reaches the Windows logon screen, the usual 'Please wait' message is displayed, but after maybe 30s of that, it reads 'No attempt to start this service has been made since the last boot'. This error only occurs on a fresh boot. When logging out and in again, it works correctly. I use the SSO function, so one finger swipe unlocks the hard drive and should log into Windows. The first BIOS swipe works fine, i.e. it cannot be a hard ware problem. After a little research, I reckon this 'service' that is not starting is upeksvr.exe, given pg. 66 of this Lenovo CSS document. The particular error message I believe is a Windows system error, no. 1077 given this MSDN article. After removing all of the Lenovo Fingerprint software and all fingerprint data, upgrading FPRS, downgrading, and having trawled the net for solutions to no avail, I have not had any success. A call to Lenovo yielded no help either (no surprise there...) I would really appreciate any help you can offer, to save me from having to reinstall the system!

Answer:Lenovo T510 (4313CTO) fingerprint reader not working at first login

I had a similar problem, the first time I occurred after a Windows Update.  This time I formatted and made a fresh Windows 7 installation.  The next time the same happened again after I updated the system using the "Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update". When I tried to open the Fingerprint software directly the following message appeared ?The dependency service or group failed to start" and the Error Code E7210001 appeared in details. This time I discovered in another forum while searching for another problem ( "Devices and Printers" did not load) that the problem was due to one of the services was disabled, the Credential Manager service. To correct this just type in Start the following: services.exe Look for the service: Credential Manager In properties the Startup type should be set to "Automatic" Press Ok and the next time you restart the computer the Fingerprint reader should work. Hope this solves your problem.

Odd that would not be an option listed.  Maybe required additional programming to have that option setup.  Maybe that's a feature Lenovo could release in a future BIOS update or software update since it would be an option I would probably use.  I personally did not get the fingerprint reader on my X220 because I didn't feel I would use it haha but it is a nifty feature. ~Novak

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows a way to change the picture for the fingerprint login for Vista. It doesn't show up in user accounts so it can't be done that way and I have been searching  but can't find anything on it. Another thing is that sometime after my computer comes back from sleep it says "wait..." at the top instead of the ready message and the fingerprint reader won't scan anything. If I log on with my password and go to the fingerprint software it just says its loading and continues to do that, I can't get into the options. A restart fixes this and I have read about keeping the computer from turning it off to save power but it seems like it should come back on after a minute or so but it won't work again until I restart. Also if I keep it from getting turned off will that effect the sleep time by much? Thanks for any replies

Not sure about the first part. But i think you can fix the timing on the reader using this patch. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67245 Have a try not sure whether it will fix your problem.

I am asking about X220 4286 systems with Win7 x64/8GB Ram and fingerprint readers. Users whose privileges include power-on and hard disk authentication by fingerprints cannot get the FP reader to accept their fingerprints at startup, but when they reach the login window the FP reader immediately accepts the same fingerprint. This generates quite a few complaints and requires users to remember yet another long password which gets reset frequently. Does anyone know why this happens? Is it possible to make the power-on fingerprint setting "convenient level"? Thanks.

Answer:X220 Power-on fingerprint reader problems - can FP reader be set to convenient level at startup?

I've experienced such problem. It's a bug with older BIOS. Whatever I do, to re-entry all the fingerprints, to erase the TPM and Fingerprint Reader, none working. But after update to the 1.19 version BIOS, the problem is gone.Hope this helps, same configuration here. P.S. if update makes no differece, try erase the FPR (TPM erase is not nessesary)

Hi all, The subject. Windows Log-in time takes too much time. Vefore it was like: Swipe finger - x220 starts - automatically goes through HDD and Master Password authorization - Windows starts - Fingerprint software starts - Automatically logs me in to the system- another 3-5 seconds until all software loads completely and I can start to work. Now it is like: Swipe finger - x220 starts - automatically goes through HDD and Master Password authorization - Windows starts - Fingerprint Software starts (5-6 sec longer than before) - Process of authorization (another 4-5 secs) - Login screen disappears and gray screen appears instead (another 4-5 secs) - Blank windows desktop (2-3 secs) - Another 3-5 secsonds until all software loads completely and I can start to work. Before it was very quick, probably 8 seconds from Fingerprint software start and to complete software load. I have SSD installed and it's S.M.A.R.T. is OK. I have tried to uninstall Fingerprint reader software and driver and start windows conventionally using my password. I have got my 8 seconds form Login screen to ready, so i assume the problem is in Fingerprint reader. What can I do? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Probably Fingerprint Reader Issue. Windows Log-in takes too long. Windows Home Pro x64. X220 i7

I checked it here on some test systems and I'm not seeing any delay like that.  On my systems, it's like your "before" scenario.

I'm not really following what you are saying with the "after" scenario, especially the parts about the gray screen and blank windows desktop.  So can you take a video of the complete boot and post it?  Maybe it will help me understand what is happening.

If you can remember when this started happening, look in Control Panel -> Programs and Features and sort by install date.  See if you can find a software install/update that happened around the time you first noticed this problem.  I would be especially suspicious about anti-virus and security software.  And make sure you don't have RapidBoot installed on your system.   http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075364

The fingerprint software (ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software) hasn't been updated in more than a year, so I don't think fingerprint software itself is causing this.  Probably it is interference from another application.

The FINGERPRINT READER function on my new E520 doesn't work beyond logging into Windows. I would like to use it for any documents, applications, or websites that are password protected. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I activated password manager and it seems to work in some situations, but I still do not get any kind of prompt to scan my fingerprint even when logging into applications or sites saved to Password Manager.Sometimes a lenovo error message tells me that for a particular operation a fingerprint scan is required but then it says that "the device is not installed" even though I used the device when starting my computer.Any ideas?

Hi,i really like the fingerprint reader - power on function but i wonder how high the power consumption is?Does it stress my battery noticeable  when i don`t use the Notebook for few days? Thank you and excuse my english

Answer:X220 Fingerprint Reader Counsumption

After my X220 is powered off for 24 hours (but fingerprint reader still active), the power meter says about 6% of the battery capacity was consumed (6 cell battery). This means that with the laptop powered off, the fingerprint reader might completely drain a 6 cell battery after 2-3 weeks. I discovered that after power off (or hibernate), if I briefly pull and reinsert the battery, it seems to completely turn off the fingerprint reader including the LED. When the X220 is turned on the next day, the power meter stays the same. This seems to be a possible workaround. I suggest doing it if you plan to leave your X220 powered off for more than a couple of days. I hope that Lenovo can fix it to make the fingerprint reader active only while the screen lid is open. There is no reason to leave the fingerprint reader on while the lid is closed. Or turn on the fingerprint reader only for one minute after opening the screen lid. That would preserve battery life even if you leave the lid open.

buying the palmrest with FPR would be the most straight forward way of adding this feature. Also, the FPR on the X220 can has the feature where one swipe of the fingerprint can start the laptop and boot directly into windows. Secure and fast way of login. I love my FPR on the X220 and X230.

I just reinstalled Windows with the factory recovery disks and then updated all the drivers. Regardless of what I do I'm not able to disable the fingerprint reader. When the machine is shutdown or in standby, the green light comes on and it accepts anyone's finger swipe to turn on. I have disabled the device in Windows, disabled the device in the BIOS (!!!) and removed the Lenovo fingerprint software to no avail. I would very much appreciate some help on how to fix this.

Hey folks, I've upgraded my X220 Tablet to W8 when it has been released. All is running fine. Okay, I deinstalled PC Doctor and several other Lenovo apps which are supported for W7 only but this has not been a lack for me. Since two days, after using the tablet functionality (touch + pen) the touchpad and trackpoint didn't work any more. Had that some time ago, when I suspended the machine in tablet-mode. Afterwards the touchpad and trackpoint were disabled. I could enable both by hitting FN+F8. But this shortcut doesn't work any more. Does anyone know, how to restore the FN+F8 shortcut? I found out the application behind the FN+F8 key can be found in C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\UltraNav Utility\UNAVOSD.exe UPDATE: Driver version is already at 16.2.19.2. cheerskyoshiro

Good day,
Thanks for reading.

I recently installed Win 8 (not upgrade) on my tablet. One of the downsides has been that I now cannot get my built-in 3G to work as the FnF5 button does not bring up the expected dialogue.

Please can you help me.

George

Answer:X220 tablet - post Windows 8 - FnF5 not working so 3G not working

Hey George,

Are you receiving dialogue at all? If so, what is coming up? Additionally, are other FN keys working as intended?

With your recent upgrade to Windows 8 have you upgraded everything that you could prior to the upgrade, and upgraded what Windows 8 drivers are available? I have seen success with updating the power manager driver, as well as the Hotkey Features Integration Driver. The Hotkey driver has up to Windows 7 Driver, it may possibly help your issue, but make sure you back up, and have the capability to rollback to the previous driver. Good luck and please keep me posted on your progress.

Thank You.

Hey all, sorry if this has been answered. If it has I haven't seen it. Is there a way to set the BIOS to only bot via a successful fingerprint swipe? this seems like such a better way of doing things. I am interested in security, but only so interested that i can swipe a reader instead of hitting a button; putting in a password every time and that is way too much effort for me. But when I swipe an unregistered finger, the computer stays off. When I swipe a registered finger, it turns on. Thats awesome. Now how can I make it so I ONLY can turn it on that way instead of just pressing the power button?

Answer:how to configure X220 to ignore power button and only boot via fingerprint reader?

welcome to the forum!

short of physically modifying your keyboard, it's not possible.   if for some reason the FPR were to fail or fail to read a configured finger then there would be no way to turn the system on.

the system is no more or less secure with an enabled or disabled power button.   anyone who really wants your data and actually knows what they're doing doesn't need a working power button to get it.

I'm having trouble getting speedstep to work on my X220t running Win8 Pro x64. Below some settings that may be relevant. I'm hoping someone has been able to get this to work, because at the moment I only get 2h45min battery life with the Core i7-2620M always at 2.7GHz.  - I have BIOS 1.29- In the BIOS SpeedStep is set to be active when on battery- I have installed the latest Intel Chipset drivers (Version 9.3.0.1021)- I have installed the latest power management driver (1.66.0.22)- With the system on battery with low activity the CPU remains at 2.69GHz- In windows power options (Advanced) I have 'system cooling policy' set to 'passive'. Oddly in Windows power setings I don't see any explicit settings for throttling there. I recall that I used to be able to specify a minimum processor state. Maybe that points to the problem?  Has anyone seen the CPU speed change in Win8, and if so, any settings or drivers I need to change?   Image below of the CPU state while on battery and with low activity.

Answer:Speedstep not working on X220 tablet with Windows 8

Well shoot, after spending an hour installing drivers and searching online, the last clue in my post was the one that did it. I looked for 'minimum processor state' and found this page:  http://goo.gl/MHG8I Conclusion:  the Windows 8 System info page and the new task manager do not always display the actual clock speed. For comparison, on my Ativ Atom Z2760 system the Task Manager correctly shows the actual current clock speed (and it's varying a lot), while the System Info page shows the max clock speed of 1.8GHz. For this X220t on the other hand the Task manager display is stuck showing the max CPU speed only. Maybe a firmware update will fix this, not sure.  To see the actual speed on the X220t install CPU-Z, see screenshot below. In the screenshot the speed shows as less than 800MHz at the moment, and I see it ramp up when I do something CPU intensive.  Hope this helps someone else. It doesn't explain why the battery life is so bad though. Maybe the battery is just dying..

I bought de computer with  Windows 10 installed on it. I just used WacomhardwareCheck and it gave the message: 'your hardware does not appear input capabilities and is not currently supported by the Wacom FEEL driver'.So, does this mean my touchscreen is broken and doesn't work? Is there a hardware problem? How can I see if the touchscreen is registered by Windows?it would be great if someone could help me to get this thing working... I downloaded and installed the fingerprint reader software for my T61 (7659-D22) with Windows 7. At the login screen I see the "Scan your finger" option, but none of my fingerprints is recognized, so I log on with my password. In Windows I get the Fingerprint popup inviting me to enroll fingerprints. Three are shown as enrolled already (carry over form WinXP, no doubt), all of which I had tried unsuccessfully at the login screen. I tried enrolling additional fingerprints, but the scans do not register at all. How do I solve this problem?

Hello All,I recently upgraded to Windows 8, and I can't seem to be able to get the fingerprint reader to work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device in device manager, and I have also tried downloading the latest drivers from http://support.authentec.com/Downloads/Windows/Drivers.aspx#LiveTabsContent38993Neither one of which resolved the issue. When I first installed Windows 8, the fingerprint reader worked as it should, however, I have had my computer repaired since then (for an unrelated issue), and it quit functioning right after the first repair. They have replaced the motherboard and keyboard in my computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I could use help with these two fingerprint issues with my X200 Tablet:1. I started using it to log into Windows 7.  But I've noticed when I now log in to Windows 7 without my fingerprint (by typing in a password), some of the icons in the icon notification tray (lower right corner) disappear.  The programs are running in the background but the icons won't appear, which is frustrating because for all 3 of the applications there, they operate by clicking the icon in the notification tray (when they disappear there's no way to activate the application).  If I log out and then back in using my fingerprints, the icons reappear. 2. For about 2 weeks I was able to use the fingerprint program to set up password access to a number of my applications like Quicken and Outlook.  This meant that when I logged into Windows with my fingerprint, I didn't have to provide a password for Quicken or Outlook (other than in the initial fingerprint set-up).  But the functionality just stopped.  I've looked at Lenovo's fingerprint application and documentation but there's no mention about it being used to store passwords for third party applications.

Does the Fingerprint Reader for the X200 Tablet have a driver for Windows 7?  I tried installing it manually and got an error that says it's only for Windows Vista, and upon using the System Update 4, it does not include the Fingerprint driver either. Also, the Tablet Buttons do not work ever since I switched to W7 either.  I have installed every update I can find through System Update and the site, and those that will not install say they are only for Vista.  The Tablet Buttons are a big issue, they are very useful and very essential to working in Tablet Mode.  I don't care as much about the Fingerprint Reader, I can get over that, but the Tablet Buttons are very useful. Are they working on a driver for them or something, or should I just give up on them?  I really liked using them when I was in Vista. Any information would be great.

Model: ThinkPad Edge E420OS:       Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bitProblem: Fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working (Image 1). One major change I think which might have lead to this - I had a recent update from Microsoft on 28/Aug/2014 (Image 2). Answer:Re: Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

For Windows 8.1 you should not be installing any fingerprint software.  You should uninstall ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.  The driver you need (for TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor) will come from Windows Update.  Then you can enroll fingerprints from the PC Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen.

If there is a problem with the device in Device Manager, try removing it and check the option to delete the driver software.  Then reboot, run Windows Update, and a compatible version for your system should be installed.

Hi all,I purchased an X200 tablet, and I got the free Windows 7 upgrade from Lenovo. After I manually upgraded from Vista to Win7 (not a fresh install), everything runs smoothly. The fingerprint reader works fine, and it even kept my prints from Vista. However, with Windows 7, I can only slide my fingers in one direction (from right to left, if using the X200 in the normal laptop orientation). If you are a tablet user, you would know that there is a left and right 'dent' surrounding the reader, which allows you to slide your fingers in either direction.I tried re-installing the fingerprint reader software -- as well as resetting my stored finger prints -- but it still only lets me slide in one direction. If I slide my fingers from left to right, I'll get a 'no match' error. I erased my prints and stored them again, sliding from left to right with the screen in normal position. Lenovo's fingerprint software saves my prints, but when I log into Windows, I can still only swipe from right to left. Is it a Win7 issue?

I broke my hinge a few weeks ago when I was packing up to leave class (which is indicative of the poor lenovo build/engineering quality that I've come to expect). The pen stopped working (even after I installed the wacom drivers I still get code 10 - the device cannot start). The buttons on the tablet don't work (orientation, esc, arrows, etc.). The fingerprint reader does not work. The laptop does not recognize the screen's orientation (open/closed/tablet). Most of the LED indicators do not function (System power and hard drive activity work, but NUM/CAPS lock, wifi, battery, plug, and sleep do not). I opened the laptop and replaced the hinge. I also replaced all the wiring (as it seemed like it might be damaged by the broken hinge) to the lcd assembly and the inverter card (it came with the wiring assembly). New hinge works great, but the features are all still gone. Is this a problem with my microprocessor board? (Item 14 - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67024) I'm guessing that it is... Is there a high probability that I need a new lcd assembly? I don't really understand the interplay between the inverter board, the fingerprint reader, the digitizer, and the microprocessor board. Windows update caused this problem on 22-12-2008 and I noticed this error last week.

Problem with Video Driver :
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver - 7.15.11.5682
This is the video driver version for my HP tablet(HP Website). But windows update installed the latest version(7.15.11.7770) from NVIDIA. From that time onwards, my touch screen stopped working.
I contacted HP care and they advised me to follow these steps.
1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 7.15.11.5682 driver by giving the video driver (devicemanager ->display adapter -> Nvidia 6150 -> uninstall)
2) Bios Flash (they provided the software)
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen problem.

Again they asked me to do the driver installation in safe mode.
(Add/Remove Programs -> Remove only display adapter)
Driver installed successfully but in device manager it is showing the latest version.
I tried two times, but couldn't help. I can't install the older driver. pls help.

I've got an x240 with bios enabled fingerprint and the latest fingerprint driver/utlity installed, a fingerprint registered and all the options checked for fingerprint to be integrated and boot. When the laptop is powered off the fingerprint swipe doesn't boot the machine, no LED on it, it's dead. How do I make fingerprint power on work? When the laptop is in sleep mode the fingerprint swipe doesn't boot the machine, no LED on it, it's dead. How do I make fingerprint resume from standby work? When win7 boots and it's at the CTRL+ALT+DEL login screen the fingerprint LED is green, a fingerprint swipe does nothing. How do I get single sign on to work?Only when I manually hit CTRL+ALT+DEL will the Fingerprint graphic then show on screen, at that point the swipe works. How do get the fingerprint to log me in without any manual intervention? The x201 I had previously did all this without an issue.

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

if i go idle for 15 seconds or more in log in screen.. windows hello wont read my fingerprint..like my reader stops working....fingerprint is still in my login option but no reaction everytime i try to swipe my finger in the reader..
i am sure that the reader is working fin because after i log in using password, i try to register new fingerprint and it is working fine..and there is no problem in my fingerprint reader before upgrading to windows 10
i tend to power up my laptop and then let it be for a few minutes..and i think its not the right behavior of fingerprint reader to stop reading fingerprint like that...
is there a good solution for this?

Login using the fingerprint reader works great, except if the laptop has been running for a while. Sometime if the computer hasn't rebooted in a few days, when I try to login, the fingerprint reader doesn't work (no green light). I have to reboot in order to "reset" the fingerprint reader and then it works... for a few days until the problem repeats.  Any help? Thanks,Majesus

Hi all,

Does the fingerprint reader on the R200 works when you have to logon in a Novell environment? As I read in the manual it seems to work only when just uses Windows. Novell needs always a password before you can login before you can login to Windows. Can you use here the fingerprint instead of the Novell password? As far as I see not.

Thanks for any respons,
Kind regards
Rob

Answer:Fingerprint reader and Novell login (Portege R200)

Hello

I have found the same info like you. The Fingerprint reader tool designed for Win OS allows you to enter OS without using password. I am not 100% sure but this tool can not be used in combination with other tools or clients.

T510 / WIN7 / FPS 5.9.5 At the login screen, you can select fingerprint login but when you scan your finger, nothing happens. After manually logging in and going into the FP settings, (The scanner works when going into the settings.) its set to login using the FP scanner but also allow c+a+d. Why would the FP scanner not respond at login? Another weird issue is that at the login screen, its showing the windows username and password screen, not lenovo's version. You have to click on the fingerprint login as if it is another user. Any ideas?

Hello. I am a very basic user and on my 2006 (yes, that old) X60s ThinkPad i do not remember my user logon password. For years I have just used the fingerprint reader.  Can anyone tell me how/if I can reset the logon password once I have entered using the fingerprint reader?  Am looking forward to hearing from some kind knowledgeable soul. Thanks. R.

Answer:How to change login user password after logging in with fingerprint reader?

rgarland, welcome to the forum,

good question, that also creates a problem.  Discussing how to get around security measures, including fingerprints and passwords is actually against the forum rules.

Hopefully this isn't breaking the forum rules;

Assuming your user account has Admin rights it should be possible to log in using your finger print, which I presume according to your post is the case. When you then go into Users in Control Panel hopefully you have the possibility to reset the password for your user account and enter a new password without having to enter the old one.

Now you have the problem that the fingerprint is associated with the original password now different to the one you have just set which means your fingerprint wont work if you log out and want to log in again.  You will need to go to fingerprint software and delete your passport and then recreate it.

In theory this should work, but I've never been in a position to try it as I've never forgotten a password, or finger come to that

edit; for clarity

I have a 3 year old HP Win 7 X64 laptop running IE 10, that came with a fingerprint reader and DigitalPersona 4.0 (since updated to 4.1). About a year ago the DP software quit recognizing web login pages. I get a successful fingerprint read but the software just pops up the DP software window to manage accounts when in the past it had automatically entered the user and password data into the login fields, or gave me the opportunity to set that up if this was the first visit. This is driving me nuts. It used to be so nice not to have to manually log in every time but I am back to that I am afraid.

Definitely not a hardware issue as the reader works fine for Windows log on and it brings up the DP software. It just doesn't work with webpage logins anymore.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:DigitalPersona (fingerprint reader software) does not recognize login pages?

In IE10, make sure when checking your ad-ons that DigitalPersona is enabled.

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

Hy,It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver). The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.I've also seenhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should.. Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away. But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )Could you please give me a hint?I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday.. Have a nice day & Regards,Steve

I have an X220 tablet with Gobi card for AT&T wireless and GPS.  It appears to work fine, except after a few minutes, using Delorme Street Atlas USA, the GPS stops functioning (stops tracking).  You have to start up the GPS again, and it starts working again for a while.  this is really annoying, because you think that the GPS it is working (green arrow is on, etc) til you realize that the arrow never moves.

Answer:X220 tablet GPS quits working

@raford,Try using a different GPS software and see if it helps. Also check the device manager for the GPS WWAN module if the "power management" to save power is enabled. Might want to untick that feature.

This is the second time this problem has occurred on my laptop but this time I haven't been able to fix it. Both times I turned my computer off in tablet mode and then happened to turn it back on in regular laptop mode. When I did this however the screen would still be oriented the way it was in tablet mode when turned off i.e. Portrait or secondary landscape. After rotating it to tablet mode and back the screen orientation would correct itself to normal but the trackball and touchpad stop working. When I turn on my computer they both work at the login screen and when I test them with the ThinkVantage Toolbox but not at all other than that. The first time this happened I fixed it by updating the ultranav drivers but this isn't working this time.I've tried turning them back on in the ultranav settings but the boxes to do so are gray and unclickable. I've tried rotating my screen and turning it on and off in tablet and laptop mode several times but nothing has worked so far. Anyone have any other ideas on how to fix it?

I put the SD card into my x220, but nothing happend, can't find the card reader deivce in the device manager.I have tried every OS(Win7 to Win10 and ubuntu) and every driver even try to edit the driver info file. but still not working. Then I switch to troubleshoot the hardware, and did it finally..1) open the cover below the keyboard 2) remove the SD card reader metal cover. Be careful, there has a very small pin, take care of it, you need to revover everything. 3) See the two contacts that the red arrows point to, they should could touch each other (switch on) after the SD card fully inserted, or the system can not feel the SD card. the other two contacts that in the red cirle also should could touch each other, or the SD card will read only.(now you should know how is the write Locker on the SD card worked.) 4) try to repare these two switchs. ( try it with you laptop power on)  after did it, the system will detect the SD card.       5) Recorver everyting.

Hello, My notebook is an HP DV7T-6000 CTO Entertainment Notebook that I have upgraded to Windows 10 64 Bit.  The original operating system was Windows 7 Home and the fingerprint reader worked at that time.  After I upgraded to Win. 10 it had stopped working.  I tried to look for a solution but didn't have any luck.  I made an image of my notebook, about 6 months ago and saved it for a later time.  Some time after making the image, I found a way to make my fingerprint reader work again, but didn't save the instructions or the downloads for it.  I know, I'm beating my head against the wall.  Because of suspecious notebook behavior, I reloaded the image I saved and now I can't seem to find a way to make my fingerprint reader work again.  I do remember that it was an updated driver for my laptop that made the fingerprint scanner work again, but I don't remember what the updated version was.  If any of you could help, I will be truly greatfull.  Maybe, at some point, I can stop banging my head against the wall.   Thank you!

I booted my laptop yesterday and found that my fingerprint swiper was not working.  The message on the screen kept flipping from "please swipe finger to continue" and "press any key to login".  I don't know what caused it and i'm running a full system diagnostic right now, but if that doesn't fix the issue is there a way to fix the swiper or bypass it?  The most unfortuante thing is that I have forgotten my windows password to boot.

I have a T400 (2764-CTO) with a fingerprint reader. A few times since I got it (less than a month), I have gotten into a state where the system is requesting a fingerprint swipe and then repeatedly says my finger print was too short and asks again. I'm not even putting my finger over the reader when it is telling me this. It even happened once when the lid was closed and I was connected to the docking station. I can't even login with my password because the fingerprint software keeps flashing up the too short message. The green light does come on. Any ideas?
