X61 Tablet: Can I update screen to a two-finger multitouch?

Question: X61 Tablet: Can I update screen to a two-finger multitouch?

Hi there,

I have an old X61 tablet 7767 A4U thinkpad. The screen has a lot of bubbles and may enlarge the image in the bottom sometimes. So, I am planning to replace the screen. Can I update it to a two-finger multitouch module?

Cheers,
Xiaodong

Preferred Solution: X61 Tablet: Can I update screen to a two-finger multitouch?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you know, that your planned "mod" is a downgrade? The multitouch displays only are availiable in XGA - resolution.

Answer:Is my x200 tablelet multitouch screen (two finger touch?)

Just got mine with the same part number 44C5631 ... NOT HAPPY.    And I'm afraid you won't be either. No you don't have ENHANCED MultiTouchAs a matter of fact, you don't even have MultiTouch. Much to my dismay, this part number is for a DIGITIZER-ONLY screen. ARGH!!!!   I talked to sales endlessly to get this right when I ordered ... and they STILL send me the wrong one.  It's like they do it on purpose ;-) .... Unreal.

I was experiencing some flakiness with my multitouch screen today where the stylus worked in the the laptop orientation but didn't work in tablet mode. Then, after a reboot, it later worked in tablet mode but not in laptop orientation. Usually, it works in both. I tried un-installing and then re-installing the multitouch drivers at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67220.html. My reward was a screen that doesn't respond to touch or stylus regardless of whether the computer is in laptop or tablet mode. So, I tried following in the footsteps of my last problem with the X200 tablet and the stylus not working correctly.http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=X_Series_Tablet_ThinkPads&thread.id=3889 where I uninstalled the multitouch driver, installed the Wacom one at (http://www.wacom.com/tabletpc/driver.cfm?CFID=471857&CFTOKEN=20437195) which gave me at least stylus functionality (no multitouch), and then uninstalled the Wacom driver and re-installed the Lenovo multitouch driver. But unfortunately, I still had a a screen that doesn't respond to stylus or touch. So, I went through the uninstall process again hoping that re-installing the Wacom one would at least give me stylus functionality. But now that doesn't seem to work either, and uninstalling the Wacom driver and reinstalling the Lenovo multitouch driver still doesn't do anything either for either touch or stylus. Looking at the control panel, the multitouch driver seem... Read more

I am trying to use a stylus pen on the multi touch w510 screen but it will not recognize it, there is no response when i touch the screen with the stylus. It works fine when using my fingers. Any ideas how i can get this to work? thanks

Answer:w510 multitouch screen - trying to use tablet stylus pen

I don't have the multi-touch screen, but I'm told that the manual says you should not use a stylus on the screen because it will damage it.  I also believe it does not work because it is a newer type of touch sensor that doesn't use pressure like older touch screens that supported a stylus.

It's a long story but it ends with the fact that I'm looking to get another X200 Tablet. As much as I liked my first Multitouch Screen X200, I'm considering going with the SuperBright screen this time.I had the Multitouch with W7 running fine but I found that I rarely used touch. The pen just worked better. The incremental price is not an issue; more the quality of use for web and garmin mapsource etc. Could anyone advise about the comparison, eg. short comings of the Superbright screen in a pen-only use?

Answer:X200 Tablet Superbright vs Multitouch Screen advice please

The term Superbright isn't misleading, it makes a difference in sunlight and on more than one occassion our employees recieve complaints and requests to dim their LCD's by flight attendants when traveling on commercial airliners at night because it seems to annoy multile rows of seats behind them that it is impossible to determine just which passenger griped about it. A few of our staffers complain about headaches since they don't remember how they set their LCD to max and dim but one had learned how to use power manger and created a custom proifle to dim the screen when the battery fell to 99% capacity  but was embarrased to ask where the LCD dimmer keys were. After months of usage, our screens remain anecdotally as bright but we haven't used light meters to prove it,,,, some things are venerable including sungligt and these LCD's. Unless you plan lots of outside and sunny usage...you may just become prematurely and unecessarily blinded.

As you might have guessed this is about a screen malfunction. The past few days my tablet has acted very peculiar. First I had problems with onenote, where ink was moved around without any interaction on my part, and now this. Two days ago the screen just showed up as on the pictures and no matter what I did I couldn?t find the cause or any solution. I powered down and turned the tablet on after having waited for a few minutes and just like that the problem was gone. I have had several encounters with the same problem from that moment forward ? and it drives me up the walls :sI haven?t had time to contact Lenovo support, and even if I did then I don?t know how to proceed? So I?m asking here to see if anybody has encountered similar problems or know what may be the cause of said problems. The video where the problem is clearly shown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epfVEo6iVVw

Answer:X200 Tablet Multiview/Multitouch Screen Malfunction

Problem solved   I still don't know what the cause was, but i suspect that i was software related - the reason why? Easy peasy lemon squeezy! I installed "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB976264)" and tada: the problem was fixed, no more ugly artifacts on the screen

I'm new to the Tablet community but excited to venture into it.  My workplace provided me with an X201 Tablet type 2985 model C5U.  The pen works great but I can emulate any of the finger/touch demos.  Is this not supported with my type or model?  Or do I need a special driver.  When I open the tablet PC settings, I'm given the option to identify my screen as PEN or TOUCH.  While I select TOUCH, no finger combination (one or two) that presses my screen will invoke anything.  I was hoping this would be a touch solutoin albeit more powerful than the iPad.  Appreciate your responses everyone. Thank you. L

I've recently purchased an AWESOME Y40-70 from a friend, and before I did anything, I installed Windows 10 and installed all the drivers for Win10x64 found on the Y40-70 support page. I love my new laptop! However, I am experiencing this issue and was wondering if anyone else was as well... I am unable to two-touch / two-finger click in order to right click; and my trackpad's righthand edge does not scroll. Like I said, I've downloaded and installed the most current trackpad drivers for this computer.  Am I doing something wrong? What can I try to change in the settings to fix this?  Is the Y40-70 even capable of these features at all?  Any feedback from the community or the Lenovo staff would be GREATLY appreciated!  Thank you!

Answer:Y40-70 Multitouch, Scroll, Two-finger Click

I am assuming that you already installed the ELAN touchpad drivers.

You can go into the software settings and see what options are available. There are settings that you can tweak for double click and right clicks.

Your touchpad IS multi touch so it should support all those features, unless ofcourse that the driver is faulty.
I do not have this laptop, but I have 2 lenovo machines and both are working well on Win 10.

Answer:How to run my application on 4-finger multitouch gesture

Hi

Welcome To Lenovo Community

  1.  a touch-screen panel that can handle more than 2 touch points (look in "Control Panel -> System and Security -> System" to find out how many touch points your hardware supports)
 2.  an application that implements 3+ finger gestures, because this is not something that Windows does natively.  I have only ever seen 1 such application that does this, a demo of a CAD/engineering tool.  I'm not aware of any other Windows applications that support 3+ finger gestures.

4-finger application switching:  press and hold 4 fingers to launch the application switcher, then move them to the right or left to switch applications.

Please check below note from Ms on multi touch gestures
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd940543(v=vs.85).aspx

Note that not all applications support all gestures - it's up to the application to decide what gestures to interpret

I hope I'm not making a mistake, I have a 6364-BV2, I assume it's multitouch (as long as the pen works, should finger touch work as well?) and I'm not able to use my fingers to touch anything on the screen. It's the low-rez version... I tried installing the multitouch driver but for nothing... I have xp tablet edition... Is it possible that my tablet doesn't actually have multitouch (finger touch capability) and only the pen is supposed to work? Thanks

Answer:x60 multitouch issue: finger touch won't work

Not all screen are multitouch capable, the pen have a special proximty device that the sensors on a layer on top of the screen picks up, unless the screen also has an additional sensor sheet for your finger, it would not work with your finger... There are two types of screen option one is Multitouch and Non-multitouch in the XGA format, and SXGA format is definitely non multi-touch.

Hello,I have an issue with the way the T450 multi-touchpad three finger swipe functions are setup. (Windows 8.1, Driver version 18.1.27.14) I'm very happy with the gestures, and very happy with the responsiveness of the touchpad, but have an issue with the directions of the three finger swipe.I have no control over which direction is back and which direction is forward, and the way it is setup on the Lenovo is opposite of what is intuitive and what is divined at the Synaptics.com website.I would expect, and want to swipe left for back, and right for forward, as it is defined on Synaptics own site (and, probably more important for me  how it works on my Mac).Is there a way of changing these swipe direction settings?Kind regards,

Answer:T450 Synaptics multitouch three finger swipe directions reversed

I'd like the ability to customize the 3 finger swipe direction, as well.  I know that the T440S has this ability, so it shouldn't be too difficult to add it to the T450.

Will Lenovo update its drivers to allow multi touch capability to the Thinkpad W500 (and all Thinkpad models!) touchpads?  It would be nice to be able to have back/forward gestures with finger swipes, zoom in/out with pinch gestures, rotating, etc etc.  Has anyone done this successfully with a driver set, and still retain TrackPoint capability?

Hello,  I ordered a x201t today and then cancelled my order after reading a lot about the sub-par brightness values on the multitouch screen. I have watched many of the video comparisons and agree that the "outdoor" screen in these demonstrations meets my needs better. I plan on ordering a non-multitouch x201t tomorrow once the cancellation goes through. My question is: "Has the multitouch screen been updated since many of these videos and comparisons were made?"I see references to "superbright" or "outdoor" screen options in blogs and newsgroups but no such options on the lenovo configuration site. Just non-multitouch "wide angle" or multitouch "wide angle". Does anyone know if the brightness and off angle viewing of the multitouch is now the same as the non-multitouch? thanks! pete.

I am new to this forum and also a first time Lenovo owner! First of all, I like to thank Bananaman sincerely and some other members for providing invaluable info. and insight re. x200 tablet. I am happy with my x200 tablet so far (ordered in mid Nov. '09 and received one month later), especially because it does have the 2 finger multitouch screen. To help people sort through this ordering/administrative mess, I like to summarize the various methods of identification I have learned from this forum. May you find the real McCoy! 1. On one of the sides of the shipping box, there is a Configuration label listing parts used to build the tablet, there should be something like (Description maybe different in different regions): Part#                        Qty                Description0000044C9488     L1 BASE     121WMFTLEDWXGA0000044C8703     L1 COPT     12.1MFTblWXGA 2. Go to Parts Lookup @ Lenovo Support http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fpartslookup%2FpartsLookup.vm&sites... and enter in the two boxes Model No. (without the trailing "-" & alphabets) and Serial No. These info. are on the shipping box and also on the backside of the notebook. I recently went into the ThinkVantage System Update feature provided by Lenovo and installed 10 recommended updates. Should not have blindly trusted Lenovo on that. Now, when I log in, I get a welcome page with the finger print log on prompt. It says I can ctrl-alt-delete for the logon password prompt, but that only gives me the admin account I used to install the updates. I have another account for my son that I am not sure I can log into anymore. I am not happy that a recommended update would have changed the way my laptop works so drastically. I want to have the original Windows XP welcome screen back with the user icons. I have an x200 tablet running windows XP. When I go into the User Accounts under My Computer to "change the way users log on or off", it says that and  "fast user switching" has been disabled and I need to uninstall the program responsible. The possible program is ATGinaHook.dll Any help is appreciated. JoseMessage Edited by heyjose on 07-12-2009 02:22 PMMessage Edited by heyjose on 07-12-2009 02:23 PM

hi, I recently bought a 2nd hand x201 tablet (3113WKZ) with multitouch / pen wxga screen, it doens't have a webcam and I want add one myself, seraching on ebay, there are various vendors selling the intergraded webcam for x201 tablet ( 60Y5745 or 60Y5750), my question is, is the installation as simple as plug and play, I understand the LCD brezel may have to be drilled to expose the webcam sensor, but electrically, are all the wiring plugs already included inside the LCD screen?

The wiring should be there. The manual does not show different cables for machines with webcams. The bezel needs a different cover (sticker). I cannot find that available separately.

I'm wondering if the x200 tablet with the new multitouch (multi-finger input) screen is showing up in the outlet store. If so, how can I tell if the unit I'm look at has this feature? Are there particular model or part numbers to look at? Or some kind of code or other indicator?

enhanced multitouch panels just hit the market late october.   chances are slim in seeing them in the outlet this soon.

however, if you do see them, they should be labeled "enhanced multitouch" or "touch with two-finger input" (or something along those lines).   any tablets labeled "multitouch" will likely be one-finger touch plus pen input.

Hi I'm having some problems with some of the multitouch commands. For instance the scrolling to the end of the document, when scrolling with 3 fingers and the show open windows thingy with 4 fingers, similar to the mac "active corners". I keep on hitting these effects by mistake when handwritting in files with pdf annotator for example. On top of that, theres an option that logs you of, I haven't figured out the finger combination yet, but it happens a lot. How do I turn of some of the multitouch commands while keeping scrolling with two fingers and turning with two fingers. I only managed to turn of all at once. Or have you managed to link a lot of very different options, so its all or nothing, even though some things are good and some are useless?

I just got a X201 Tablet with multitouch (2985-EYU). I saw that that Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 was pre-installed, however when I try to run it I get an error "Multitouch Hardware is not available on your computer." Is this a known issue? I tried updating/'reinstalling the Wacom Two Finger Touch HID driver but I still get the same error. Thanks in advance!

Hmm just an update, I had access to another X201 tablet fresh from the factory. I tried running the Microsoft Touch Pack and now it works--no error about multitouch device not detected. So then I tried running it on the original tablet, and now it also works. Kinda strange but I'm not complaining.  At quick glance it's mostly games. And there's a multiouch surface screensaver that mimics water. Pretty neat!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone would have any idea why my multitouch features stopped working after my system resumes from sleep/hibernation. It basically doesn't detect any multitouch feature but still detects the pen feature (although for the pen, the mouse cursor changes back to the traditional arrowhead rather than the dot that I'm used to). I'm not sure if this is that important but I never had a problem prior to this: I recently swapped out my HDD for a SSD (and is working beautifully). I'm just not sure I have all the drivers although ThinkVantage and other driver updating programs that Lenovo has released says my system is up to date. Thanks for your time,ExC

hi ExCit is hard to say what happen here. Curious to know, let's say if you put back the original HDD, does the error occur ?At the same time, do go to >> http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70656.htmland check if the software/driver version for your system is up to date.

I have just received my new x200 tablet with multi touch and immediately upgraded it to WIndows 7. I can not get the digitizer pen nor finger gestures to work on the screen. This is my first tablet PC and I am bummed to have this issue on the first day. I am no computer wizard so it could be user error all the way. Please tell me i am missing something easy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:x200 tablet w/ multitouch -- multi touch and digitizer pen not working

Just to cover our bases, have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for Windows 7? Here's the multitouch drivers:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73295 And here's all the others for Windows 7, just in case:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=427841&brandind=10&... Forgive me if you've already done that. Other than drivers, I'm not sure what you can do to troubleshoot it. I know it works in Win 7, since I've read several reviews about the Windows 7 experience on the x200. Seth

Hello all, I just purchased a Lenovo X200 Tablet with enhanced multitouch on the 13th of November when they were having the nice employee sale. I customized the X200 enhanced multitouch package and added a whole bunch of features. I got the camera, turbo memory, 4 gigs of ram, fingerprint reader and the works. The only problem is I don't have any touch features (with my hand) at all. It only detects the digitizer pen. I thought maybe they forgot to install the drivers or something so I tried installing the touch drivers from the Lenovo website (my product number is apparently 7448CTO which is not freaking multitouch from reading on the forums). When I try to enable the Touch features it tells me that it did not detect any touchscreen moreover the tablet did not even come with the simpleTap software which had me really puzzled. Why did Lenovo do this to me?? I need it for university and it took really long to come. I really need those touch features not just the pen. Thanks Cal

Answer:TouchPanel Problem, X200 Tablet with enchanced multitouch - NO TOUCH FEATURES AT ALL

Colferns,I've had a x200 tablet multi-touch for a few months.  Just upgraded to win 7 and having problems getting the multitouch to work.  I wonder if the drivers are not working.  BTW, 7448cto refers to the 7448 model, "Configured To Order" - I know, not very helpful. It is strange, since in XP it worked okay (but not great).  I now look at my Control Panel | System and Security | System Setting and I see half way down the window a category called "Pen and  Touch:". I am dismayed to see "Pen and Single Touch Input Available". I hope some one replies soon with the right drivers.

Hi all ! I got a X220 Tablet from a friend and i am very happy with my tablet. The only question i have which makes me crazy and i cannot understand is that i have no touch capabliity only through wacom pen works. The same issue was with windows7 pro preinstalled and with windows8 upgrade i did after getting the laptop. Is it possible that my X220 Tablet has a panel that only works with wacom pen or i is it a software issue so i can resolve it by installing it and have the finger touch capability. Thanks in advance !!!

Answer:X220 Tablet - No finger touch capability only pen :(

there are two types of X220t and X230t screens used one is both touch sensitive and uses pen digitiser, there is another one that is outdoor screen version that is only pen digitiser (so there is no finger touch capability).

Hi, I have been baffled by this issue for quite a while now. I have a lenovo X220 tablet that supports both finger and pen inputs for touch. Originally this laptop came with windows 7 and everything was fine and dandy. I then bought windows 8/8.1 Pro 64-bit and did a clean installation of it. Now I only have pen support for the touchscreen, i.e. my finger is recognized as a pen/mouse not a finger which is really frustrating specially when scrolling. Now before I actually purchased the win8 license I had tried out the windows 8 release preview and everything worked perfectly then. So now when I got the actual release of the OS its not. Furthermore I currently have a dual-boot set up with windows 10 technical preview as my other OS and in there it also works perfectly fine as it should. This is important because when I contacted lenovo about the issue they suggested that my screen was broken, but clearly it is not.  Can anyone shed some light on this issue? It is a real shame not to be able to take advantage of this fine screen and windows 8 touch friendlyness.  Kind regards.

Answer:X220 Tablet pen support only no touch with finger

There is a firmware update for X220 tablet under win8 that improves didigitizer recognition.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-tablet-laptops/think...

Hello, I bought a x230 Tablet from ebay.  It didn't come with a fingerprint reader.  Is there a part that I can buy to add a fingerprint reader for it below the LCD screen? I've looked at https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x230t_fru_bom_20121010.pdf and found this:04W6941 LCD ButtonBzlASM wFP CM204W6845 w/FP for Comet-2 I noticed from google images that 04W6941 is only the panel and doesn't include the fingerprint itself.  Is this true?I've searched google about 04W6845 and I couldn't figure out if it's what I need. Thank you for your help.

Hi, Does the current x200 tablet multitouch screen have the capability to one day support multiple finger touches at the same time (similar to iphone)? I'm not speaking software-size, i mean strictly hardware-size. Thanks,Chris

Answer:x200 Tablet True Multi-finger hardware capability

As far as I understand: No.Usually the term "Multitouch" means exactly what you are describing. But I think that IBM/Lenovo started using the term BEFORE the iphone-way (and the trackpad-way of MacBooks) became what's now meant by Multitouch. With Lenovo it simply means a screen with both pen and finger-touch capability. The hardware for a "true" multitouch system is based on a capacitative touch-technology, the X200 screen is NOT. Unfortunately...I think that at this moment Dell is the only company producing a "true" multitouch tablet. But Vista supposedly supports it. Martin

Answer:X200 tablet how can I find out which models are finger touch compatible

Well I would say that the most empiric way to do it is just try to touch your screen on some dialog boxes or pictures where gestures would trigger a reaction from the computer..... Indeed it's not very easy to figure it out from Lenovo support website ... I tried the product number but this only gave back basic characteristics of the machine, not the exact type of display/screen  I know mine is wacom enabled and (finger) touch compatible and I think I figured this out by... trying  http://shop.lenovo.com/us/landing_pages/multitouch_technology

Okay, for reference I've definately read the forums regarding the multi-touch versus dual touch terminology confusion (and in my mind a terrible misnomer). I placed my order on the 21st of October through the Canadian store linked from the x200 tablet features page regarding the enhanced mutli touch option. The model selected was the best of everything through the whole process.

The price went down the next day, so I called, cancelled my order, and reordered with the lower price. I received the first order anyway, so I called lenovo again today and they were quite helpful in getting the price adjusted (the specs were identicle besides windows 7 being preinstalled, but I have academic licenses anyway).

So I just finished wiping the preinstalled vista, installing windows 7 and all the drivers, and wanted to try out simpletap.

And I don't have multi touch. At least not as far as I can tell. Model number is 7448-CTO, Sn is xxxxxxxxxx right from the box beside me. I just called lenovo support and they can't even find the serial number, and asked me to call the sales people back monday.

So am I an idiot and just miss a driver? Am I an idiot and somehow manage to order the top of the line system and miss the option? I can't even list off my options as chosen from the packing slip, as it nor my emails list the options I've chosen.

I'm a little annoyed to say the least.

Note from Moderator:  Serial number removed for your protection.

Answer:X200t ordered with multitouch lacking multitouch

One question.Did you order multitouch and expected two fingers multitouch? Or the multiouch for use with pen and finger?if you ordered the first one, Lenovo have been using the multitouch expression for pen/finger option a while. But now the "multitouch" are synonymous with the two finger option for most people. Might not give you the right answer, just a thought.I hope things settle out for you. Axel

lenovo is running a special - free upgrade to the multitouch screen.  does someone know if the multitouch screen has disadvantages - clarity, glare?i have been looking around for a comparison of both, and have not been able to find such a review.  i am located in nyc and would like to test one out w/ the multitouch screen, but i am not sure who may carry them.please advise.eric

Answer:T410S multi touch screen or non-multitouch screen better - appreciable differences between them?

Go for the non-touch. All it adds is grain and reduces contrast. It also increased glare in the X200/201 tablets, not sure if that happens in the T410s.

i guys im new in the form. i ve got a lenovo x201 tablet.im wondering about the multi touch option.Does x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch or only pen. And also i coudnt find my model type in lenovo.thats kind of weird Thanks for everything

Answer:lenovo x201 tablet 3113-94U support multi touch??(pen & finger)

Hi, btoymus23

I did some research on your machine and found its entry in the Personal Systems Reference. Machine type 3113-94U does not support MultiTouch, unfortunately. This information can be found in the link on page CML3-4 (use Ctrl+F to find it faster.)

MultiTouch, however, means to be able to use three distinct points on a touchscreen at once, not being able to use different touch inputs. I think you should be able to use your fingers to touch objects on the screen, though the pen might be easier.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi, I was trying to order a new X61 here. But I don't see any option for MultiTouch screen!Few weeks ago, I am sure that I saw MultiTouch option with X61. What happened now? any idea?? Thanks,Tkm

Answer:MultiTouch screen gone from X61 ?

I think Lenovo is trying to clear to stock. I haven't seen the option for quite a while. There might not be multitouch screen left and 4:3 panel is rare nowadays, esp. SVGA+ one. It's possibly the best way to give them a call.

A few weeks back on my Surface Pro 3, I was able to view my desktop and have the tablet style on screen keyboard popup in text fields. Now if I'm in desktop mode, windows does not load the tablet style on screen keyboard when touching an input box and the keyboard icon is gone from the systray. If I'm in tablet mode, the keyboard works like it should, but I'm not able to click on a show desktop icon somewhere. Is there a way to be able to see my desktop *and* use the tablet style keyboard that auto-pops up?
Also in chrome, I am unable to click anything except the X button to close it.
So far I'm regretting my upgrade to windows 10!

Answer:After windows update I can't use tablet like on screen keyboard in desktop mode?

There is a reason why "tablet mode exists". end.... why do you want to use something like "desktop icon" when you can just put your desktop icons pinned to start screen and treat it it like the desktop for tablets it is?
what benefits are you getting from having desktop instead of using the start screen to launch apps?
I am sorry but it doesn't make sense to "regret upgrading to windows 10" only because it doesn't do what YOU want. because it's hard to understand why "omg I can't click desktop and go there, tablet mode sucks" .
if you want to access the on screen keyboard (like anyone can) just right click on the taskbar and tell Windows to always have it on taskbar. you only right click it and Show touch keyboard is there, which anyone on a laptop, desktop, touch or not touch can pin to taskbar.
if you want to use Windows on a tablet, and have access to desktop and use apps on window mode and move then around then you have to pop up the keyboard manually.
and if you want keyboard to work as it should on a tablet mode then just pin Desktop folder to start screen and access it that way if you want. or pin your desktop icons to start screen, name the group desktop and be happy.
and Chrome sucks, I don't know what "I am unable to click anything except the X button to close it." means, but Chrome is not exactly the best browser around.

In 2006 Lenovo started using the term ?multitouch? to mean touchscreen via finger and pen, then the iPhone came along and gave it a different common meaning: two-finger touch.

It?s important to understand this, because, in September 2009, Lenovo introduced new touch screens which support ?multitouch? in the now common sense: two finger touch. This did not and cannot magically give two-finger touch capability to the previously released touchscreen via finger and pen tablets.

So Lenovo have bowed to the inevitable and started using the common meaning of ?multitouch?, but be careful out there, because NONE of the ?multitouch? tablets introduced prior to September 2009 have two-finger touch!

Check the Personal Systems Reference tabook if you are unsure. In the display section you will see:

MultiTouch (touchscreen via finger and pen) <-- NO two-finger touch capability
OR
MultiTouch (touchscreen support pen & two-finger touch)

Lastly, Lenovo's marketing materials refer to the new two-finger touch feature as "enhanced multitouch".

March 2010 UPDATE: With the release of the X201 Tablet, the nomenclature has become simpler!
If an X201 tablet is multitouch, it  is two-finger multitouch. There are no single-touch pen or finger X201 tablets.

I have ordered a screen protector for the screen, but in general how durable is the Infinity Glass. I hear more about the Gorilla glass (Outdoor and some Sony Tv's) but not so much about the Infinity option. I have not owned a tablet before and am I do believe that previous generations of "X" series did not have a glass screen? Cheers Tony

Answer:Quality of X220 Multitouch screen

the previous X200/201 series did have the infinity glass option but they were not available in every world region.Regarding durability, they are about the same as the iPad or iPhone glass screen, which means having a screen protector is a good idea.

just bought my lenovo yoga 500 laptop two days ago.. at first the touch screen worked but now it doesnt.what should i do?

Answer:my multitouch screen isnt working

Hi Ella,

Welcome to the Forums.

It can be difficult when something that is important to you does not work as expected. It is pretty simple and we are here to help you fix the issue.

Please answer these questions-
1)    Do you get any error message or error code?
2)    Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

I would like more information regarding the issue.

Method 1
Step 1-
Let us check if the issue persists in Safe Mode.

Refer the steps-

a)Click on the ?Windows+R? key simultaneously, type ?msconfig? (without the quotes) and hit ?Enter?.
b)Now, select the ?boot? tab and check the box next to ?Safe Boot?.
c)Also place a dot next to ?Network?.
d)Check if the issue persists in Safe Mode.

Note: You need to undo all the changes made earlier and get the computer back to Normal Mode.

Proceed to Step 2, if the issue does not persist in Safe Mode.

Step 2-

I would recommend you to perform a Clean Boot. Placing the computer in a Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or start up items are causing the issue.

 Method 2
If nothing helps, then I would have you refresh the computer.

Refer the link-

The mouse pointer on the screen floats and drifts all over the place when I am in tablet mode. This occurs when I move the computer around in my hands or touch the screen's surrounding plastic frame. This issue is caused by the back of the screen touching the trackoint, when the notebook is in tablet mode. I verified this by taking the red trackpoint nub off the unit, which caused the pointer drifting to go away. However, I don't think that this is normal or it is fair that I should have to do this every time I want to use the notebook in tablet mode. Since I have the multitouch screen, every time the mouse pointer drifts due to the back cover of the screen touching the trackpoint, the finger touch navigation stops responding for about three seconds. Lenovo currently has no idea on how to resolve this issue. They changed many parts and really just rebuilt most of the notebook. During a repair, they damaged the notebook to an extent to where I can no longer start it or even open it without it making clicking noises.  I work for a Fortune 500 company and use the notebook for vital projects. Most of the project data was on the notebook and I require the notebook to complete these projects. I paid $2500 for this notebook a few months ago and now Lenovo has damaged my notebook without even giving me an apology. My original issue has not been resolved. The pointer still drifts f...  I have a penabled X200T (not multi-touch, pen only) from around 2009 that is having problems with the eraser at the top of the Lenovo pen in version 7.0.2-29 of the Lenovo multitouch driver. The pen for my laptop has a red tip, one button in the middle of the pen, and a grey eraser at top. The problem varies depending on how I configure the pen in Ctrl Panel > Pen Tablet Properties. Version 7.0.2-29 allows you to configure TWO buttons in the middle of the pen, in addition to the tip and the eraser. If I disable the button that doesn't exist on my pen then my eraser stops working (and by that I mean if I hover the eraser over the screen the cursor doesn't move and if I am in OneNote or Journal an eraser does not appear). If I set that button to right-click then the eraser will work but very very poorly (in OneNote it switches erratically between eraser and the typing caret and will not eraser in a continuous stroke), rendering if virtually unusable. Is anyone else having this problem with their 1-button Lenovo pen? Where can I find legacy drivers for pen-only (not multitouch) X200T screens? Can someone please clue me in to what is going on here and why this behavior is occurring? Thanks!

Hello 3igenval!

Welcome to the forums! Can you tell us what model (machine type) of X200T you have and what operating system it is running? The machine type can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the unit.

The brand new multitouch worked for 2 days while I was setting up the laptop and my files. I played with it for about an hour tonight. The X230T was running on battery, I plugged in the power cord, and the screen became totally unresponsive. As insensitive as a school bully in a bridal shower. Per instructions at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74908 -- I'm running Windows 7, 64bit -- I uninstalled and reinstalled the ISD multitouch driver, 7wge69ww.exe. No go. The only input device that now works is the mouse -- not the pen, not a finger.  Considering that my other X230 was sent to the shop last week (with a second dead motherboard in less than a year), I'm starting to wonder about Lenovo. Any advice? Thank you.

Answer:X230T multitouch screen lost sensitivity

Update: Though I'd rebooted the machine several times last night to no avail. It spontaneously became responsive this morning upon awakening from Sleep mode. It has since been put to sleep, awakened, connected and disconnected from the outlet charger several times, and continues to work as it should. \I have no explanation about what happened last night. Thank you.

Hello all, Wondering if anyone else has experienced headaches/dizziness/nausea with gazing at the x200t (enhanced multitouch) screen for over an hour. I find that there's a weird sheen that makes it darker in some parts, especially when used in portrait mode and it's tilted slightly. Not sure why I've been experiencing this and wondering if others share it or have found ways to make the screen look better--I have the contrast turned to 4 bars below max (a comfortable brightness for me).

Answer:Headaches with x200t enhanced multitouch screen?

Found a workaround yesterday and wanted to report back for future reference, since other people have commented on how "shimmery" the x200t enhanced touch screen is. In portrait mode, at close levels the edges of the screen appear shimmery, possibly because of the extra touch layer (I haven't seen other non-enhanced touch x200ts, but my friend's x61t with pen-and-touch had a screen with uniform brightness and no "shimmer" with a change in viewing angle). When viewing the tablet from up close, each eye would receive a different input from the screen as the viewing angle became more oblique. So if I viewed the screen with only my right eye open, the left side appeared greyer/darker, and with only the left eye, the right side of the screen was darker. This is a recipe for headaches, since your brain has to constantly integrate the different signals from a source it doesn't expect--a flat screen. The solution? Hold the screen farther from your eyes. Then both eyes view the screen at roughly the same angle and you don't experience the "shimmer" anymore. Or just use landscape mode, where the "zone of greyness" is horizontal instead of vertical, so your eyes are both still getting the same input. Hope this helps someone!

Is there any need for a screen protector for the x200T with enhanced multitouch? Do screen protectors even work with the capacitive touch screen? Just wondering because I heard that touch screens wear down with use pretty quickly. Thanks.

Answer:x200T enhanced multitouch-screen protector?

The screen is really solid and sturdy. Imagine really hard plexiglass and it feels like the same material. I don't think you could scratch it unless you took a knife to it or something. I had my previous tablet for 4 years and it got some minor blemishes evenetually, but I think that's inevitable with any laptop. I wouldn't worry about it.

I recently bought the ACER T231H Multitouch Screen. Earlier this Summer, I had problems with calibrating the Monitor. But eventually, I made it work. After a few days, I had many "Blue Screens" on my PC, and reinstalled the Windows 7 64-bits. And after that, I have had troubles with calibrating the Monitor....When I enter the Calibrating Section, and hit Calibrate, I am not able to prese the Cross in the Top Left corner of the Monitor....I have updated with the latest drivers, and the Monitor is set to Primary....Hope someone can help me with this issue.....

Answer:Cannot calibrate my new Acer T231H multitouch screen

Try uninstalling the driver and letting Windows install it's generic driver to see if that changes anything. If it does, then you'll know it's a driver problem. Also look into your video card drivers and update as nec. - something has an incompatibility issue. I never use software that comes with monitors if I can avoid it, because of issues like yours.

Hi all,I am very curious about why Lenovo cancels multitouch screen in both T and W series. I believe this is a terrible decision. Multitouch machine is not only for fun! We need a multitouch laptop for work! Toys like iPad are all over the market, but they are not suitable for heavy programming. Suppose you are developing programs everyday and teach classes at school, definitely T410s was the best choice! I feel so disappointed when I realized T420s has no multitouch screen any more. Does anyone know why this happens? Thanks.

Answer:Why does Lenovo cancel multitouch screen in T and W series?

Probably a lack of demand. The percentage of users who need it is probably too small to justify the whole endeavour.

Hey guys, I'm swapping my HD to a SSD and am planning on doing a clean install of windows on my soon to arrive 230T.  Can anyone tell me the bare minimum drivers necessary for a clean windows install with a functional multitouch screen?  I guess the question I'm asking are which drivers run the screen/pen software? My goal is to get rid of all the bloatware that comes pre-loaded on these devices. Cheers folks!Sam

The latest bios update of X1 Tablet (Model:20GG) breaks the sleep (or hibernation) function. I found the tablet sometimes cannot be waken up by pressing the power button after entering connected standby. I have an X230 that I just upgraded to Win 8.1 (new disk, fresh Win8.1 install).  Win8.1 was installed as soon as I got it so I'm not sure how things worked in Win7. Multitouch doesn't seem to work at all.  The multitest app shows 1 point, there's no touch tab in the control panel Pen and Touch settings, when I tried installing the Win7 enhanced multitouch driver it says there's not tablet installed.  I have a 353422U which is supposed to have multitouch.  Am I just missing a driver somewhere or is this a hardware issue? I started looking at the multitouch issue because screen edge swipes don't work.  The screen seems to be emulating a mouse instead of touch  (mouse arrow cursor is always on while my other tablet doesn't have the mouse cursor).  Is there another way to get screen swipes working if the screen is emulating a mouse?

I put my Win7 disk back in to test and I do have multitouch in Win7.  The Pen and Touch control panel settings also show the Touch tab, which isn't show in Win8.1.  So obviously it's a driver issue. Are there any drivers available that will enable multi-touch on my touch screen?  I tried installing the Win7 drivers in Win8.1 (in compatibility mode) but the setup program says "no compatible tables are installed". John K

Hey guys, I'm turning to you for some advice here after talking to Lenovo tech support without much solution other than sending my computer in, which is difficult to do since I need it everyday. The main issue I'm having is that after putting my computer to sleep and waking it up a few times, the multitouch on my screen goes nuts.  If I try to pan or zoom with my finger, it thinks I'm tapping in all kinds of other places.  It starts zooming on its own and it'll just go tapping on its own.  Sometimes it'll right click, left click, right click, etc.  Sometimes it's just a left tap.  Either way, I can't take notes on this thing when it's tapping other crap while I'm trying to write.  A restart doesn't fix the issue.  I end up turning the computer off after class, and it's fine next time I turn it on a couple hours later. I called Lenovo right after class today, had the guy connect to my computer, and he saw what I was trying to describe.  He blamed it on a bad digitizer.  I'm not so sure about that.  It works fine 80-90% of the time; it's just after the computer has been put to sleep and woken up a few times that this problem comes about (and it doesn't happen all the time). I'd like to get your thoughts on this before I commit to sending this in for a digitizer replacement.  We've reinstalled the drivers and done that whole route.  No dice. One other side note, I get other occational weird issu... Hi, I've got a Lenovo X201 Tablet, multitouch. Everything was fine until few weeks ago when suddenly the pointer on the screen started behaving unpredictably, moving without reason and/or not responding. My hope was to have a problem with the red pointer device or the touchpad but disabling the touchscreen drivers fixes it...well, the pointer stopped jumping everywhere but of course now I cannot use the touch feature!!!!Also, the camera doens't work and still, when I move the screen, Windows advice that a USB device cannot be recognized. Is it something I can fix myself? I mean a loose cable or similar things? I'm afraid goint to a support center, if it even exist here in Rome, Italy, would take weeks to repear and hundreds of euros...you know, when for a cable unplugged they substitute all the computer?!?!?!? Any suggestion? Tks.

Answer:X201t - USB, camera and multitouch go crazy when rotating/moving the screen

Solved, somehow...just installed Windows 8...all the problems related to the touchscreen are gone...it must be something about the drivers. What do you think?Still, moving the screen cause "USB device is not recognized"...it must be the camera. I'll look around the internet if there is a cable that can be fixed without the need to Lenovo support.

I just received my new T410s multitouch (running Windows 7 Pro) a few days ago. Everything seems to work fine, except when using multiple displays on an extended desktop : touching the T410s screen (the main display) causes the cursor to activate the corresponding position on the *external* monitor (the *secondary* display, an LCD monitor connected via the VGA port). Nothing else happens on the main display. Has anyone else encountered the same problem ? I'd really love to hear how you overcame it. Additional details follow :1. Under "Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Display", I selected "Change display settings".2. I then set the "Multiple displays" dropdown list to "Extend these displays", designated the T410s as my main display. (The external LCD monitor therefore became my secondary display.)3. Everything looks perfect after applying the changes.4. However, when I touched the T410s screen to (eg) select an icon on the T410s desktop, nothing happens where I touched it. Instead, whatever icon in the corresponding position on the *external* monitor is selected.5. In similar fashion, if the corresponding position on the external monitor happens to contain a button, that command gets invoked instead. Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

I just bought my Yoga 2 13, when I flip it to Tablet mode, the screen turns off. Apparently it goes to sleep. When I open it it turns on again. Do I need to do any adjustments? or is this a defect?

Answer:Yoga 2 13 Tablet Screen turns off when in Tablet Mode

Try updating your drivers first: http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-2-13-notebook-l...If that does not help, try a factory reset:1. Turn off your Yoga 2 132. Press the tiny button next to the power button on the right3. Follow instructions to perform a factory resetIf none of the above attempts have helped you, it is probably a hardware issue.

Hi,Recently the screen for my X61 cracked and now I have black marks everywhere... When I first got it, I regretted not getting the multitouch but now that I have found I have to replace the screen anyway I thought it might be an option. I found a screen on ebay (apparently the only X61 Tablet Screen there) for 300ish (which is much much cheaper then what lenovo parts offered me: $1000+ if i heard right...) but the part number is different and it is multi-touch; other then that, it seems similar:One the Lenovo X61 parts page the ebay screen (13N7233) is decribed as:12.1-in. XGA TFT, touch panel, digitizer assembly G5 for wireless WANWhile the one meant for my model (13N7224) is:12.1-in. XGA TFT, protection plate, digitizer assembly G5Now I am wondering if the replacement is simply the addition of a couple new drivers or the difference between multitouch and non-multitouch is a hardware thing (other then the screen itself of course). Someone on lenovo tech support said that in thoery, it should work but it would suck if it didn't. I'm don't know if much on this subject but forgive me if it is a really stupid idea... So has anyone ever tried this before or has a recommendation on whether I should/shouldn't do it?On a side note:There are a thick black blobs everywhere on my screen. It is still kind of usable but the black marks are unbearable and spreading like ink. I read somewhere that it is the liquid inside the screen (I don't know if thats right or not) but I was wondering ... Read more

Answer:Replacing Non-Multitouch XGA LCD with Multitouch-XGA?

Concerning your screen damage, the LCD crystals in each pixel normally open and close to expose light based on the electrical current.   Usually the liquid crystals stay within each pixel in the middle of six or seven layers of screen, however the liquid can spread like ink blobs when damaged.   I don't know that I would risk buying a screen on eBay, mostly because my luck with used electronics from eBay has been on the negative side.    Buying a new screen from Lenovo doesn't sound like a cost-effective solution either, since you can practically buy a new laptop for not much more.   I'd probably opt to use it as a desktop PC for someone else along with one of my older LCD monitors.   Too bad about the damage, but doesn't sounds like you have any cheap options that aren't risky.  Someone else might have a suggestion!

every few hours or every other time i use the computer for only 2 minutes or 1 minute it will behave eratically and start reading 2 and 3 fingers on the trackpad and suddenly start and suddenly stop as if it is not a warming issue or heating issue. rather a driver or software issue i have pdated driver played with settings and this still happens every so often i want to return my computer but i got a killer deal with the i5 but the trackpad glitchyness is too important of an item to just "deal with" does lenovo know about this a few other people i have found online have same issue.

Answer:g50 70 trackpad eratic behavior glitchy choppy reads 3 finger and 2 finger

A couple of things to try......

First, try doing a reset of the BIOS by following the procedure I have listed below.  This procedure can help at times resolve hardware conflicts that maybe affect the way the system performs.  Just do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If the reset didn't resolve the issue then I would next suggest that you uninstall the touchpad driver, reboot the computer and then install a fresh copy of the driver.  A clean install is the best way to try and resolve driver related issues.

I am a avid user of the two finger scroll option on my Synaptics touchpad, but now that I have upgraded to Windows 10 it is getting increasingly harder to use it due to the search bar popping up. It mistakes my 2 finger scroll for a 3 finger tap and it became annoying. So I ended up turning off three finger tap in the mouse options. Simple enough, now here's the problem. Every time I turn off my computer or laptop and then turn it back on, an update shows up and Windows turns it back on again! Anyone having the same problem? Would love to get to the bottom of this and turn off three finger tap search for good.

I just bought a Yoga 3 14" and I have an issue with the touchpad: when I use the two finger scrolling function, it doesn't stop scrolling unless I lift both fingers off the touchpad. All other notebooks I have used before stopped scrolling when I lifted just one finger, alowing me to resume controlling the pointer with just one finger. This is very annoying, and I would like to know how to change this behaviour.

Thanks

Hi,

I have a Portege Z30-A-183.
First I used it with W7 and I saved 3 fingers in the biometric finger sensor .

After that I updated to W8.1 but I didn't deleted the data of the scanned fingers.

In W8.1 I haved triy to save again the data of my fingers but the software said that it is not possible beacause in the memory of the sensor are the data of my fingers.

I haved read that these data are in a non volatile memory on the sensor.

How I can erase this data?

Thanks

Answer:Portege Z30-A-183 - Erase Finger data in Finger Sensor

Hi

Yes the fingerprint information is not saved on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) of your computer but on the certain chip.

Usually the fingerprint has to be removed using the Fingerprint Utility but if this will not work after the new OS installation, I would recommend you to go back to the previous state before changing the system and to use the fingerprint software which was used for fingerprint registration.

Details here:
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/items/faq/386

But in case the fingerprint would not work even using the Win 7 version, I think that only Toshiba authorized service provider would be able to delete the already registered fingerprints.

I just upgraded my Yoga 2 Pro to windows 10 and my touchpad was acting crazy--for example, I could only get a window to scroll when it was out of focus.  I tried reinstalling my touchpad drivers, and it took about 5 attempts to get it working at a basic functionality.  However, this process caused an egregious change to basic scrolling behavior.  When I used to scroll with two fingers, I could stop scrolling by lifting one finger, and my mouse would return to being a cursor.  Now, when I lift one finger, it continues to scroll, and it will only stop scrolling once I lift the second finger.  So if I'm moving my cursor around, and I drop a finger down for just a brief moment, I won't stop scrolling until I completely remove my hand from the touchpad. I tried reinstalling the driver, I tried installing the Lenovo Windows 10 touchpad driver, (64-bit)
