I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Thinkpad X220t 1x1 wifi card

Hello DerekZ,Check the HMM for X220t for the compatible WLAN cards.http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM006561Also it is recommended to purchase option parts from Lenovo directly rather than 3rd party even though they are the similar model as the 3rd party options might not be in the BIOS whitelist.

Thank you for having this forum available. My husband passed down his Thinkpad A21M Type 2628-GTU to our son. The wifi card that was with it is a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11mbit/s t/n 03549501 p/n012938/c. When powered up last night, the ethernet was fully functional, but the wireless card didn't connect to the net. My husband assumed the Lucent card was bad. Is there something compatible I may buy to replace it? Do you have a suggestion on what he might have missed in trying to get it to work at home? He has used this laptop all over the country including at home before, so I would imagine he knows what he is doing. But, we do have a new service provider since the company upgraded his computer system. Thank you so much!

Answer:Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

Welcome to the forum! Honestly, it's time to upgrade to a newer card anyway, at least b/g. Any PCMCIA wireless card will work with your A21m, it all depends on your router, and your personal preferences. Hope this helps.

Hi. I have a different t30 question. I opened the wifi card slot, and found 2 things. 1. An intel wifi card2. A orangish card secured by 2 screws, with a power cable connected to it. I switched the cable to power the wifi card, but what was it originally connected to?  Thanks in advance! Mod clarified title Message Edited by Tim_Lenovo on 09-18-2008 07:48 PM

Hi everyone,  I am new to this site, and new to laptops. I just bought a used IBM LENOVO T42 1,7GHZ 512MB 30 GB HD with XP PRO. I am confussed about the WiFi issue, as it seems like two cards are required (internal / external) to get wireless. I have been searching the internet trying to find out what external and/or internal card I need to buy, but have become frustrated because I don't understand the lingo. I bought my computer off eBay with this description:  IT ALSO COMES WITH WIRELESS CAPABILITY  TO CONNECT TO ANY WIFI NETWORK OR HOTSPOT AND CONNECT TO THE INTERNET  BY ADDING AN ADAPTER CARD. And the specs say this, Expansion slots: one Type III PC Card slot Can someone please shed some light on this for me, and tell me what to buy ? Thx, Scott

Answer:HELP ! WiFi Adapter Card for Thinkpad T42 ?

Hi Scott, I don't have a T42 so I'm shooting from the hip here.  Maybe this will give you something to look into while we are waiting for someone with a clue to chime in... From the description, you don't need to buy anything - except maybe a wifi router for your home network   Presumably there is an internal wifi card already installed.  The expansion slot is a generic slot into which you could install any number of things. You won't need it for wifi unless the internal card is missing or defective - and if that's the case you would be better off to just replace it and leave the external slot alone. EDIT:  I'm a moron.  Completely mis-read the part that said "by adding an a adapter card".  Sorry about the noise. Poke around in device manager and see if it  shows a wifi network adapter.  Look for Access Connections in the windows quick-launch tray, launch it, and see if it knows about wifi.  (This is where I'm guessing a bit - did the T42 have Access Connections???) A head-up: you are likely to get punted over to T61 and prior T series ThinkPads  .  This forum is for T400/T500 and newer. Z.Message Edited by zoltanthegypsy on 03-13-2009 06:38 AM

Hi everyone. I just acquired a Gen 3 X1 Carbon. When I got it, it had Windows 10 on it. I do not like Windows 10 at all so I replaced it with Windows 8, which I will upgrade to 8.1. However... The wifi card is not functioning. I installed every possible wifi driver (but not Sierra) and the wifi card is not even showing up as a connected device in Device Manager (see the attached screenshot).  I also noticed that ALT + F4 is not functioning either. I installed every other driver I can think of. Please help!

I have a X220T. And I am thinking to buy a ThinkPad Tablet android too. But I am not sure if it will add anything in my life. I have a lot of windows application in my computer, I am a programmer. And read and write a PDF a lot. And I don't like the idea to carry two hardware with me (X220T and ThinkPad Tablet). The ThinkPad Tablet is good, light, camera, battery life. But I am not sure if it worth buying one, since I have the X220T. I am not sure if it is really necessary.

Answer:X220T vs. ThinkPad Tablet.

This is largely a question of preference.  If you value weight and battery life over functionality then the thinkpad tablet is a good investment.  If you however, value performance, ability, and sheer functionality above weight and size, then the thinkpad tablet is a waste of money.  The x220t can be made to last battery wise just as long (and longer) than the thinkpad tablet. It is a beast in comparison spec wise to the tablet. It's keyboard is a dream, and the wacom implementation is superior in most aspects to the n-trig used on the thinkpad tablet.  If it was up to me, I wouldn't even look at the thinkpad tablet.  That said I love the way the thinkpad tablet looks. If they stuff x86/x64 guts in there, I would be the first in line to buy it.

Hey all,

I bought a TPY from Newegg, which shipped with the Intel Wireless-N 7260. The laptop finds and connects to my home network fine, but can't find my work WiFi network at all. I've tried a few different drivers to no avail. Would buying and installing the dual band version of this card, or getting the Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 make a difference?

And if so, can someone double check that this is the right part? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190

I know there's a whitelist in the BIOS, but I assume that if other models ship with the AC card then I can swap it in.

The model type number is 20CD-0033US S/N **********

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Manually upgrading Thinkpad Yoga WiFi card

Hello and welcome,

The whitelist requires the correct model and a Lenovo FRU number.  That NewEgg card looks to be generic Intel and won't pass the whitelist.

The  FRU's are available in the TP Yoga part list:  http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/yoga_fru_bom_20131107.pdf

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is dual-band.  Hopefully someone else here on the boards can provide info.  Price and availability is going to be an issue

Before you go down that road, have you verified that your work wifi is 5GHz-only, and that there isn't some other problem?

I'm considering buying an IBM X40 netbook running W7, which comes without wifi. Since I need wireless I plan to also purchase one of the many inexpensive add in wifi cards sold on eBay. I just wonder how easy it is to install one of these things, and do the X40's typically come with an antenna already there, to hook the card to?

Answer:Complications of adding a wifi card to a ThinkPad X40 netbook?

Really not sure if they include an antenna or slot for the card, or even what time of slot it would be.You would probably be much better off getting a PCMCIA WiFi card and using that.

As many owners of a Thinkpad S531, I am not very happy with the Wifi performance of the built in Intel Centrino N 2230, especially after upgrading to Windows 10 (x64). What I have done so far: Turned of Bluetooth (Windows Connection center plus deactivating the device in the device managerTurned of the option Computer can disable the device to save energySet maximal performance / energy in the Windows energy settingsIf anybody knows more hints / tipps / tricks to get a better WiFi performance, I would appreciate to read about it. From the WiFi environment, there is a strong AVM Fritz Box router (450Mbps on 2.4 and 1.300Mbps on 5.0) next to an extending repeater (300/867 Mbps). Honestly, none of the device is facing a WiFi connection problem (iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, several Laptops and Wifi enabled devices). Could you, Lenovo support, provide me a list of compatible 2.4GHz/5GHz Wifi cards? If possible, a recommendation for a specific device would be great. Is there any guide for replacing the WiFi card? Thanks in advance.

Hello. Last week, I bought a manufacture refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad X220 tablet on ebay. When I got it, the battery was half-charged and I plugged in the AC to charge it. I noticed that the battery was not charging, not by one percent. So in the following days, I used the laptop when I'm outside. That is, until the battery went down to 0% and I had to resort using AC power. Now I called Lenovo about the issue and they told me that the battery was out of warranty. So today, they sent me a new battery and surprisingly, that battery was also not charging! I called Lenovo abou this and they said that the charging portion of the motherboard may be bad. But that doesn't make any sense; if there's a problem with the motherboard, then the computer woudln't be working at all. I checked the Power Manager and all the settings, including the charging options, were all correct. Can anyone help me with this? BTW, the battery is a 6 cell Li-Ion, the one that goes at the back of the laptop.

Answer:Thinkpad X220T Battery Issue

I think the technician is correct, the motherboard must have some issues. The controller on the motherboard that control powers and battery charging could be having some issues, but it does not prevent your laptop from powering and working when the AC is connected. This sort of issues are rare occurrences but can still happen.

I am having an issue getting my screen to rotate when I put it in tablet mode. I previously had windows 8.1 installed and had everything working fine.  I did a clean install of windows 8.1 as I was having issues with write permissions. I did not notice having the problem with my screen not rotating at that point, but I hadn't needed to put it into tablet mode.  Since updating to windows 10, my screen will not autorotate. The buttons work to turn the screen, but this is annoying when wanting to change from one mode to the other.

Does anyone know what drivers I need for this (for Windows 8 or 10)? (perhaps I didn't install them after my last clean install).

I think there should be a list of SSDs with different brands and capacities that are known to fit in the Thinkpad X220t.  I understand that the thickness must be 7mm or less.  Please correct me if that is wrong. Thanks.

Hi Everyone, I recently got myself the X220T and it was working fine until earlier today that the screen started to flicker in Windows 7. I thought the device was hot and shut it down. After a while when it was completely back to room temperature I did a cold start. The problem is that the "ThinkPad" logo in the start of the bootup sequence seems to have changed to a off white more yellow color and have a little bit of ghosting just around the letters. In Windows the screen would flicker and just dissapear and come back at own will. Anyone know what this can be?Thanks

Hello, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 Tablet (model 4296) which was originally on Windows 7 64-bit, but was now updated to Windows 10 Anniversary.  I would like to know how to set up the pen to work with Windows Ink Workspace.  This is the Lenovo pen that is part of the X220T.  I had read the exellent description of different types of Lenovo pens in this forum, but I think the X220T pen is older than any of the pens described.  Could someone help explain if this pen (and the X220T tablet mode) is fully functional in Windows 10 with Ink?  or is this model too old and should be obsolete?!  Thank you very much.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E431 Wifi Card Upgrade for AC support?

Hello and welcome,

Something to keep in mind about the whitelist:  a card must be a whitelisted model and have a Lenovo FRU.  A generic card - even if the model is listed - won't pass.

The FRU list is here:  https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/e431_fru_list_20130430.pdf

I don't think any of the listed cards are AC, but please double-check that.

x220tWindows 7 Professional I just got a new motherboard, and now my Thinkpad will does not detect headphones.  When I plug headphones in the jack, no sound comes through the headphones, and sound continues to stream through the built-in speakers. Things I've tried:- I updated the drivers and the problem persists- I checked the SmartAudio settings, including toggling between the classic and multi-stream modes.- I opened the box to check the obvious connections -- nothing obvious appears to be disconnected, but I'm not an expert, so I wouldn't know how to check soldering or the like. Other notes:- There is a USB port next to the headphone jack, which works fine.  - When I plug in the headphones, I can hear the static sound that results from a cable making it's connection.  This tells me that there is power going to the headphone pins.- I've tried both regular 1/8 in XLR stereo headphones and the kind with a built-in microphone, with the same results each time. At this point, I think it is probably a hardware issue, but I really don't want to put my work machine back in the shop again, so if anyone has an idea, I would love to hear it. Thanks!Scott

Hello all,I have question regarding how to increase the Frames Per Second for gaming performance purposes.  I have a Lenovo X220t ThinkPad with an i7 processor with 8gb of RAM and the default graphics card. I sometimes use the computer for gaming even though it is not specifically designed for that.  I haven't had an issue so far with most of the games, but some of the games that are more graphic intense tend to be slow and have a very low FPS.  I realize the main reason for this issue is that the integrated graphics card was not designed for serious gaming, but I am looking for any tips or tricks that will help.  For example, would turning off the touch screen capability increase gaming performance? Any help is appreciated.Thanks,Cole p.s. Other than gaming this computer has exceeded all of my expectations. Very excited to really utilize the touch capabilities with Windows 8.

I wouldn't gamble on a successful ending. Wait to replace it after your exams. Upgrade your warranty if necessary to make it last longer. Because it will be an expensive upgrade.

Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. So, I need a dual band + BT wifi card that will work in an Edge E130. Yes, i've already been directed to the stupid "FRU" and "Supported wireless" lists. The FRU list isn't helpful and the "Supported wireless" list is a complete lie. (A supposedly supported card is "unsupported" and halts at POST) So what's the exact model card I need to get and where can I get it from? (Or who do I contact to get the Intel Advanced N 6230 added to the BIOS whitelist) Failing this, i'll be returning it/demanding a refund (if neither are forthcoming, i'll be issuing a charge back on my CC). Under the NZ Consumers Guarantee's act , if Lenovo are listing a card as compatible and it's not, then I have various legal avenue's to persue or i'll just issue a charge back and go buy a laptop from another manufacturer that aren't assholes about what I can do with my own **bleep** hardware.

Answer:Require dual band + BT wifi card for Thinkpad Edge E130

The FRU list is necessary.  If a card isn't sold by or for Lenovo it will fail the BIOS whitelist test.

As an example, a generic Intel 5300 will fail.  An Intel 5300 FRU # 43Y6459 will pass - at least in a machine that has that FRU whitelisted.

It isn't in the PCI ID that I can see. My Lenovo-branded 5300 has the generic Intel ID. It may be in the subsystem ID or in some pixie dust that Lenovo sprinkles in the firmware - I don't know the details - but a Lenovo-compatible 5300 is not the same as a generic one.  Searching for a whitelist vs PCI ID won't get you any farther than the FRU list would.  If a card would pass the whitelist, it is already branded with the FRU.

If you're shopping the aftermarket, rather than Lenovo sales, you need to shop by FRU along with card type.  Legit sellers will list the FRU # along with laptop compatibiliy.

You  (and I) might wish it were otherwise, but that's the reality.

Will the Thinkpad x220t with the ?1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter? support the new Miracast standard from the Wi-Fi Alliance? http://www.wi-fi.org/miracast. I understand that the WLAN adapter OEM is Realtek.  According the Wi-Fi Alliance, the first Wi-Fi certified Miracast devices have been announced, and Realtek has already certified two devices and those two devices, in conjunction with devices from 6 other OEMs, are serving as the basis for interoperability testing. Given the fact that Realtek is an OEM that has a Wi-Fi certified Miracast product, Realtek is part of the Miracast interoperability process, and that Realtek is a component supplier for Lenovo, is it known if the actual WLAN adapter (specified at the top) will be compatible with the Miracast standard?  Will an updated driver be required to support the standard? The reason for the question, is that I have always been interested in WiDi but I didn?t have the Intel Centrino adapter and therefore couldn?t enjoy its benefits?. perhaps until now as Netgear's current WiDi adapter already supports the Miracast standard.  I know need to know if my x220t supports the standard. Thanks for the feedback!

Answer:ThinkPad x220t - WLAN Adapter compatibility with Miracast

I strongly doubt it - the standart was officially launched only a few days ago! You're not likely to find information on whether or not any current devices support it. About WiDi - if you don't have any of the Intel Centrino adapters, what do you have installed in the machine? ThinkWiki only lists three Intel ones.

The ThinkPad Battery 19+ (6 Cell Slice - X220, X220T) I've checked the lenovo website. Is it not available? When I add it to the shopping cart, it is crossed out, and labelled "Item Expired". Is it discontinued, or out of stock, or in short supply? And at 230$, it's a bit expensive.

Hi everyone, I've owned my X220t for a year now and the past two months I've noticed such terrible Wi-Fi performance that I can barely use the computer without a wired connection. I've since purchasing gone off to medical school and am running into issue after issue with my unit! I have the screen bleed in and bright spot issue (which I think has been recalled?), The palmrest has cracked down the center from my palms "resting" on the thing. The little plastic tabs that hold the hinge in place along the side have all fallen out, the hinge doesn't quite sit right, the Bluetooth hasn't worked since I got it and for being a Core-i7 machine with 16gb of ram, it doesn't fly quite as fast as I'd have hoped. BUT I can deal with all of those situations because for the most part it tends to just work like I need it and right now I can't be a day without my laptop. Some day I'll get the screen and bt fixed (I have an extended warranty) but the Wi-Fi is driving me crazy! I can't do half of my work without the internet and it is as slow as a dialup, let me rephrase more like a 2000 baud connection! I have my Galaxy S3 cell phone next to my computer on the same network and speedtest tells me 25-35mbps while my thinkpad gets 300k-700k if I'm lucky! Now, I know I have Intel Wifi Link 1000 which (had I known at purchase) I would have never bought, but I just chose Thinkpad Wi-Fi because it didn't mention it was a 1000. I've tweaked all the settings I could, and I disabled Wirel... Read more

Answer:X220T Wifi performance horrendous!

Something isn't right. I would request an RMA for correction. The X220t that I have is easily the best wifi laptop tablet I've seen. I get signals that are so far away my cellphones and other laptops don't even show them on the map. I've tested it with a droid X, lumia 710, multiple laptops, iphone, and nokia e5. The x220t card I have in there is just absurdly good. NOW, understand, if it's in tablet rotation, you do hamper the reception. It's still pretty good, but you're basically shoving the antenna into the body of electronics. You could use an external USB wifi adapter that has an external antenna to counter this, when needed. They cost about $25 for one that works quite well. I'm using the 3-antenna Intel version (no webcam), and it's easily better than every macbookpro user I see on campus, and it just devours signals. I'm assuming you made sure to put the power saving mode of the wifi to "maximum performance"? The Lenovo power manager is handy if you want simple, but if you want speed, remove it completely and set up the power mode so that it doesn't throttle the wifi. Beyond that, something is physically wrong, and you need to get it fixed. I can't find a laptop that can compete with my signal yet. Speeds, maybe, but not strength. It's possible that the antenna leads aren't connected properly, or the card needs to be replaced. If you have the tri-antenna version, and tri-antenna card, there shouldn't be anyone else on campus getting... Read more

Hi all. Had this problem on my previous Thinkpad too, an x120. Often, when I put the x220t to sleep by closing the lid it will not reconnect to wifi when I reopen it. The icon stays greyed out. I find the fastest way to resolve the problem is to right click and run the troubleshooter, which resets the wifi network adapter and all then is well. Device Manager says its an Intel Centrino R Advanced N 6205 and driver is up to date. Any ideas? Running clean install (not an upgrade) of Win 8.

My problem is different from those who are experiencing internet connection difficulties in tablet mode.  I maintain a continuous and strong/full wifi signal, but am losing internet access intermittently.  It makes no difference whether the unit is used in laptop or tablet mode. If I reset the wireless adapter, I remain connected to the internet for anywhere from a few minutes up to an hour or so.  The wireless signal is always at full strength, and distance from the router makes no difference.  Occasionally internet access returns and then drops again, however, I generally have to run the troubleshooter to reset the connection.  Running the windows diagnostic/troubleshooter resets the adapter and returns the message: "the connection between your access point, router... and the Internet is broken" and "the default gateway is not available," but does temporarily resolve the issue.  We have two other laptops in the household that are not experiencing connection difficulties. So far I have reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo site and have set the power options to maximum performance for the wireless adapter.  This is a brand-new unit in use only a few days and has had the problem since I unboxed it.

Ok, so I attached a USB wireless adapter to see whether the internet still dropped or whether Centrino 6205 adapter was/is the problem and began downloading a large file.  I did not lose the internet access, however, I did get a long pause of several minutes during the download, but it resumed.  Signal issue?  or, are there other known wireless issues with this unit?

Answer:X220T tablet dedicated graphics card

No, the integrated intel HD graphics is on the same die as your CPU. You cannot replace it. There are some who use ViDock to connect an external graphics card though pci-e slot, but it's kind of messy in my opinion.

Answer:Looking to upgrade wireless card to AC in my X220t. What will work?

The bios whitelist prevents such upgrade. You would need a BIOS firmware that doesn't have the whitelist to enable you to use an AC capable card.

Answer:Can I replace stock wifi card with an Intel 6235 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI-e card in my N580?

Hello and welcome,

Whatever card you use, it MUST have a Lenovo FRU number.  Cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist have been modified to provide a specific subsystem ID to BIOS.  Reputable sellers will list the Lenovo FRU if their card is compatible.

For example, a generic Intel 6150NX will not pass the whitelist, but a 6150NX with a 20002543 FRU number will pass.

I'm running windows 8.1 on my X220T and for whatever reason random parts of random files will show up as corrupted on my 64gb SD card when connected to the x220t. When connected to my desktop running windows 7 everything on the card is fine on mulipe tests so there's nothing wrong with the SD card.I say it's random because the corruption jumps around every time I remove the sd card and put it back in. For example, if I play a video which is stored on the SD card it'll glitch up at 5:34, and will glitch up at 5:34 even if I close the video and load it again, but if I remove the card then plug it back in and play said video again it might glitch up at 4:23 or 6:17 or whenever. The same thing happens with all types of files stored on the card when being accessed with the x220t.windows (8.1) shows that there are no errors when scanning the SD card.In my searches it seems people with the same laptop eaither had a card reader that didn't work at all or worked fine, but nothing between like this.I've tried installing three different drivers so far.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS032126http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS014960http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds038445and even tried a bios update.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS018805So far none of this has fixed the issue.I've also suspected that it may be due to the size of the card.  I've test a 4gb sd card on this laptop with the same source files and they showed up fine on muliple tes... Hello,

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.

When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.

I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.

I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.

Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.

Thanks

Aieden

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. Hey guys,

So, what i'm trying to do is create a wifi hotspot using my computer. In other words, turning my computer into a router. I'm wanting to do this so i can use my ipod at home instead of only when i'm around other wifi hotspots.

My computer is running off of a wired router, so that i can play online on my PS3 as well. I was told wifi doesn't work well with Ps3's normally so i just bought a wired router. So, the mainline internet cord is plugged into a wired router and then another line runs into my computer.

For some reason, after i make an adhoc connection, the computer is not sending the required information to the iPod so that it connects to the internet.

I've tried entering in the information into the Static tab in my ipod as well, and still only get Local Connection instead of Local and Internet.

This is what my connection looks like through the router using ipconfig /all:

Answer:Creating Wifi hotspot with built-in computer wifi card.

Hi Cromsy,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

I'm having a problem that's been on and off with my.wifi for a while. I have a Yoga 2 Pro and the WiFi card seems to disappear completely and I can't get it back without removing all the batteries and leaving it a while. It's not like it needs a driver update, it totally disappears as if it's not even installed and won't show up in any OS or even under the "rfkill list command". It appears to be completely failing. Thing is I've swapped it out and it seems to be some part of the operation that mounts it that isn't working. I notice that it installs into the power board and not the motherboard. Would swapping this fix it? Does anyone have any ideas?

This is my first time posting so i hope its in the right place. Here it goes:

I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:

1. Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.

After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on. Any help is appreciated.

Hahaahahaha don't look at the other tab

Answer:WiFi not working after replacing WiFi card [BCM94352HMB]

Why are you booting into safe mode? I would connect a network cable to the wired network port, if possible for you. In regular windows, not safe mode, right click on the 802.11ac network controller and uninstall. Right click on the top device manager entry for the computer itself and select scan for new hardware.

Hi all,

I looked online and I'm still a bit confused whether I should get dual or single band wifi for a laptop that I would like to purchase. Can someone explain to offer a suggestion as to which one is best?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:dual band wifi card vs single band wifi card

I should get dual or single band wifi for a laptop that I would like to purchaseClick to expand...

do you mean a router
or as part of the laptop spec ?

what router do you have and does it work in dual band simultaneously

the advantage of the 5ghz signal is if you are in a crowded 2.4ghz environment then 5ghz helps avoid interference - also the coverage is wider - although the 5ghz router i have linksys - does not seem to be

if your current router only works in 2.4ghz , then no advantage in the short term

some routers are advertised as dual band - but you have to choose between 2.4 or 5 ghz and so ALL devices will need to support 5ghz

I see a lot of T400-T500 users asking how to upgrade graphics card and being told that the card is integrated to the motherboard and cannot be replaced. Most answers stop there leading one to believe either you can?t use whatever software requires more GB or you must get a new computer all together. I did see a brief mention of external graphics cards, something about a graphics card having to do with a docking station, and something about a virtual graphics card. Are any of these an option for someone who has a ThinkPad 400-500? If so, could we get some more specific detail on what can be used please? If none of these are an option ? are there any ThinkPads that have at least 2GB dedicated video cards?Thank you in advance for any help.  My specs: (including a question about my video card ? 1 place shows 2GB, another shows only 1696MB with system video memory being 0. When an SD Card is inserted on the Card Reader, Windows 7 crashes (Blue Screen of Death). Inserting the SD card before boot-up or at any time after the laptop has booted, would still result on BSOD. Laptop is running the latest driver available. Anyone of you experienced this?

Answer:ThinkPad W540 - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) when Inserting SD Card on Card Reader

Sorry to hear about the issue with your computer. Bluescreen error messages are generally a gold mine of details for what's wrong, so if you could post a picture or copy down the text of the error it would go a long way toward finding out where the problem might be.  Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the card reader might help as well. Make sure you uninstall the driver manually first, as sometimes the installer programs can leave behind old data and settings that can be the cause of the issue.  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS039066

Hi! I have a T430 2347CTO. The notebook has an Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) adapter installed. 1. The WLAN adapter is causing problems and I'd like to replace it, but I'm not sure what I should install instead. Any tips? 2. I'd like to install a WWAN adapter, but I'm not sure if my model has the required antenna installed. Does anybody know if it has?

Answer:Thinkpad T430 - replace WLAN card and add WWAN card

I confirmed that this WLAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-wifi-Card-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-T430-60Y...

And I also confirmed this WWAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gobi3000-3G-WWAN-Card-60Y3257-for-Thinkpad-X220-X230-T420-T430-W520-W530/22...

The WLAN card is N wireless; and the WWAN card is 3G.  The ones I linked to are shipping from the US and the best price I could find.

Hope that helps!

Question: wifi thinkpad X40

Hello,After a reinstallation of windows xp on my thinkpad x40, I no longer have a wifi connection. Internet connection in windows appear and I see nothing so I can not connect me no box. In the thinkpad bios it seems that everything is enabled, but it can be other manipulations to do?Thank you for your advice

Answer:wifi thinkpad X40

Hello,

It sounds like you may need to reinstall your drivers for X40. After a XP reinstall your X40 recognizes the devices connected but still needs the drivers to utilize them. You can verify your Devices inside your Device Manager, and then download the correct device drivers for them here. Please make sure you select those for XP. Once the proper drivers are installed your WIFI connections should return.

Question: ThinkPad S431 wifi

Hi, I recently bought a Thinkpad S431 with Windows 7 Professional installed. I used it at work with no problem, but when I use it at home, I have severe wifi issues.  At work, the router is less than 5 meters away, and there is nothing in between them.At home the wifi signal is very strong, yet I have almost no internet connection. I cannot browse normally. The first think I did was downgraded the driver to the version 5.100.82.139. With the newest version I couldn't even use skype for messaging. I don't have this issue with my other Lenovo G530. I put them in the same place, and do the same speed test:S431 download/upload : 0.4/0.7 Mbps ..yes upload speed is higher!G530 download/upload: 9.55/4.09 Mbps.    Any suggestions?

Answer:ThinkPad S431 wifi

Hello, I also just received my Thinkpad S431 (with Windows 8 installed). I am also have problems with my wireless at home. My internet access will go out intermittently. After using Windows Network Diagnostics, it says that it "fixed" a "problem with a wireless adapter or access point," which has been a temporary fix. Also, my download/upload speeds are slower than what they should be.  I did speedtests with my S431, old Dell, and phone in the same room:S431 download/upload     Slowest download: .59/1.05 mbps     Fastest download: 10.22/.62 mbpsDell Inspiron download/upload     13.90/1.07 mbpsPhone download/upload     15015/1179 kbps I have played around with my settings, but haven't gotten any definitive results. Hi! I'm using a ThinkPad T41 laptop. Type/Model numero is 2373-2FG. I just bought a new battery for it and I'm going to get a new Ultrabay Battery also.I'm strugling on few things that I can't seem to find information anywhere. What size of HDD does the newest BIOS for this model support? Can I get a 80 GB or 120 GB 2.5" HD and just slide it in? The original 40 GB HDD isn't large enough. Also what kind of MiniPCI WLAN cards are supported by the newest BIOS?I just bought a Intel 2200 WLAN card so I could swap it to the 2100 card. I enjoy the laptop as is, but with few adjustments it would be a lot more usable.Message Edited by neo-x on 03-06-2009 08:13 PM

Does anyone know what chipset the Thinkpad WiFi (BGN) card uses? Traditionally, the Thinkpad cards use Atheros chipsets, but I don't want to assume that and end up with a Broadcom card that doesn't have a native Linux or FreeBSD driver.

OK...this is strange...

My Thinkpad R500 will connect to my router, but no internet connection. All my other devices in my house (tablet, phone, other laptop, tv, etc, etc) are all connected with no problems.

It was working up until today. When I was at work, I was having trouble connecting to our WiFi, and my IT guy did something. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I'll ask him tomorrow. But I gotta do some work tonight!!

I did a "diagnose problem" in Win7 and it says something about the "primary DNS server is not responding"....

Thoughts?

Answer:where -oh-where do i turn on WIFI for thinkpad X31????

From the Hardware Maintenance Manual: ThinkPad X30, X31, X32 - Hardware Maintenance Manual I find this:
-----
Fn+F5Note: This function is supported only in X31 and X32 series. X30 series does not have this function. Control the power source of the built-in Bluetooth wireless device. This combination of the keys functions as a toggle switch of the power state. Note: In Windows 2000 or Windows XP or Windows 98, this combination of keys enables or disables the built-in wireless networking features (the IEEE 802.11 standard) and the Bluetooth wireless features. To use this function, the following drivers must be installed. v IBM ThinkPad Power Management driver v OnScreen Display utility v Wireless device drivers

Does that help?  Is there a mechanical wifi switch somewhere?

Answer:Thinkpad 510 issues WIFI

Maybe you system is hijacked. Do several in depth malware/virus scans. Be sure the notebook DNS is not altered and using your service providers DNS servers. When not working you can also test Pinging the router and external destination to see if in fact the network is working for the notebook.Thats a start.

hello there, i have recently upgraded my service to 200mbs with a dual band smart router, modem and router capable of 1000mbs, after upgrade i come to find my wifi card only recieves 2.4ghz channel, its pitiful that my cell phone can get 140mbs on 5ghz and my new laptop can only get 100mbs via ethernet and less than 20mbs wireless, i took it to the local computer store and he did not want to touch the machine because this model is extremely hard to get into and i have read that if it only has One antenna i would have to disassemble the display aswell , so i am basically asking several questions, (1) can i upgrade to a card that is 2 x 2 A/b/g/n/AC 867mbs  like the intel 7260 or 8260 (2) does this machine have the required 2 antennas so i do not have to take apart the display?. i find it ludacris that this machine came out in 2016 and is not capable of reaching passed 100mbs, i would have never purchsed it, i intend to keep upgrading speed as long as my ISP keeps giving me good deals on service, i pay $60 for 200mbs.....card is realtek RTL8723benf Single band 2.4ghz 100mbs......thank you in advance

I have a brand new L 540 model 20AV which cannot connect to e internet via WIFI, Even though the laptop shows as "joined" on my wireless network (net gear N 300 router with WEP security). I have no problems on the hard wire connection to the internet via the router/cable modem. All my other mobile devices (a couple of iPads and an old X41 the L 540 is intended to rpelace) connect without problems to the network and through to the internet, so it seems the issue resides within the L 540.A total of three (3) Lenovo support personnel working by remote managed in combination to disable totally the wireless card and I had to ship the laptop back to support in Memphis. They re enabled the WIFI card and claimed they managed to connect wirelessly to the internet, and shipped the machine back to me.My symptoms continue, and I was able to generate an error message 163851 which seems to indicate some kind of protocol issue with no DNS server being available and/or responsive.I am strangely reluctant to resort once again to the help of the remote operators in Atlanta and would appreciate any help/hints. In particular would it be worthwhile to reinstall the router using the new laptop? Should I consider also upgrading from WEP to WPA or higher? Thanks for your help,J-P. G.

Hello folks,

I am having a super problem with my notebook, I hope someone can help...
I am a happy owner of a 1.5 years old Thinkpad Yoga. I updated to Windows 10 last year but no major issues so far. Around one month ago though, I started getting some problems with my wifi connections. Sometimes, after disconnecting (voluntarily), the wifi wouldn't reconnect at all and disabling the WiFi would make it even worse, because I wouldn't be able to enable it again and had to reboot. The wifi simply shows no networks and presents that little red "x" on its icon.
Well, last week the problem got worse. The WiFi stopped working and wouldn't get back even while rebooting.Sometimes it will get back after a reboot, in those cases it stays good and alive as far as I don't reboot and keep the device enabled.
I ultimately resetted my Windows yesterday to see if it problem would be fixed. The windows started up good, but when I started again today, the problem was there again.

Some facts:
1. I saw no particular pattern on which circumstances the problem is shown more often.
2. The device manager will show the wireless adapter sometimes, but most times won't.
3. The Bluetooth radio doesn't seem to be affected at all by this issue.
4. Updating or reinstalling the driver doesn't seem to help, although it can bring the wifi adapter back to work (until I reboot the system).
5. I had a VPN software before updating to Windows 10 (although I believe I uninstalled it before that), but m... Read more

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are not able to connect to Wi-Fi in your Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 15 while in Windows 7.

Intel Wireless LAN driver for Windows 64-bit

 Hope this helps!

I recently upgraded the machine with an SSD, fan, Middleton BIOS (for the SSD) and clean Win10--now it's a great backup to my P50. However, while the machine has no problem connecting to the network and internet with Ethernet--turning on the radios switch and using WiFi, the machine will lose connection within a few hours at most.

The OEM is an Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN which Intel no longer supports. The OS reports no problem with the it.

Since the machine was shipped with Vista 32 bit and later upgraded to Win7 32 bit then Win7 64 bit I'm sure that when I did the hardware upgrade and installed Win10 that was a compatibility problem for the WiFi card.

I downloaded Intel's newest driver set (Intel? PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Intel? Wireless WiFi Link 4965 Date: 17-Aug-2017 Version: Latest (Latest) OS: Windows 7, 32-bit*, Windows 7, 64-bit*, Windows Vista 32*) that does not support Win10. The problem remains.

Does anyone know if there is a driver written by another company that is also compatible with the Intel card and Win10?

Worst comes to worst I'll just use a cable connect with the T61 but I'd much rather ($ and difficulty permitting) prefer to have the WiFi back functioning.
