x220 Wifi 802.11n issue

Question: x220 Wifi 802.11n issue

Hello, I have a 802.11n issue that drives me crazy..My X220 with 6205n Wifi adapter cannot connect to the router in N mode. The router is a huawei HG655b, using WPA2-PSK/AES. All my other computers at home can connect in N mode, but the X200.It only connects in b and g modes, as soon as I swith the X220 adapter's N mode on from device manager, it disconnects. I have updated the Wifi driver to the last version from Lenovo site, I have changed Power options on both battery and Ac to maximum performance for Wifi...what else could it be? An incompatibility with the router?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... Answer:Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one  I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help.  UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

Hi guys, Previously I posted a thread "How to check & set download/upload speed". So, I just bought a new X220 to replace my old Acer laptop, and at that time I was not familiar with this X220, and I thought I had to change the setting from the Windows Network or the Lenovo Access Point software to get a higher download speed, as my download speed is only ranging around 15-30KB/S. I download using the Firefox browser. That is indeeed very slow as I'm at Singapore right now and I'm sure their speed is much more faster than that. I changed the bandwidth (something Hz) from 20 to 40Hz, but still the same. I even brought back to the store that I purchased this X220. The guy tried to download using their store internet connection and said the download speed is reasonable as their store connection is quite slow. Well, I just think 30KB/S is still unacceptable. So I just thought maybe I haven't found a high-speed wireless internet spot yet, and just now I tried to download some movies at my sister's place (dl speed is still max of 30KB/S) and thought to leave all the downloads alone, and before I left I also download iTunes from the itunes website. To my surprise, the download speed on the iTunes was like 1,5MB/S - 2,1MB/S and the movies speed were also started to increase to 300-400KB/S. And the weird thing is that after iTunes finished download, the movies download speed were also dropped down to 30KB/S. So, I had to repeatedly downloading the itunes again to get a 3... Read more

This post is just as information - i solved the problem, but it might help others in the same situation or might encurage Lenovo to change something (if possible). I was adding/enabling WPA security to my wireless router and therefore should change the settings of the my connection on the X220 (along with other wireless equipment).  That was NOT possible, neither using the Win7 network options, nor the Lenovo 'Access Connection' software. After booting the X220 i could see the different access points (SSID's), but when i tried to access anything Wifi related, the Wifi system just froze and i couldn't do anything. If i started out - after a reboot - trying to change the settings (add WPA and enter pass-phrase) in 'Access Connections' i got an error message like: "The program doesn't have the rights to make these changes", when trying to save the changed settings. The solution was to delete all Wifi profiles in 'Access Connections' and start all over with detecting SSID's, entering pass-phrases and so on, for all connections.  After i did this, the Win7 Wifi functionality works correctly too. I guess that updating the 'Access Connection' software (and/or Win7) at some point 'forgot' to convert the settings to a newer layout or similar error.  But it work perfectly now! Hope this helps someone in the same situation.

Question: X220 Wifi Issues

Hello all, Just bought my X220 a few weeks ago and lately started having issues with the wifi. The wifi tends to loose connection every now and then.  Especially when I stream a video etc. or even just my gmail. Hello, I keep losing wifi on a regular basis (several times per day). When this happens, an exclamation mark symbol appears on the wifi indicator in the taskbar.I have not been able to identify a trigger. It happens randomly as far as I can tell.I am sitting within 2 metres of the router. Non of my other devices experience connectivity problems. To reinstate wifi, I right click on the wifi icon in the taskbar and select troubleshoot problems. This always gets wifi working again. A hardware scan in Lenovo solution centre does not flag up any problems.Lenovo system update does not indicate any critical or recomended updates. There are 2 optional updates listed (Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver, ThinkVantage Active Protection System). Here are some system and wifi detailsX220Windows 8.1 ProWfif adapter: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205Driver Provider: Intel; Date: 23/09/2013; Version 15.10.4.2Router: Apple Airport Extreme I would very much appreciate it if someone could help me identify and fix the issue.

Hi everyone, Just purchased a new x220, with what I think is a great build config. I've used a T42 for the last 4 years or so after having some bad run ins with Powerbooks. Mine came with the Intel Centrino N 1000 wireless card. Had I known better, I would have opted for the 6205. The problem I am having is that whenever I get about 15 feet away from my wireless router, I lose all data transfer. My T42 and my HP Tower (and my iPhone) can connect in the exact same distances with ease and still have plenty of bandwidth. The T42 for example won't stream HD video from netflix, but it will stream SD video. The HP tower being in my room, which is the furthest point away from the router and up a level, gives me a -6x to lower 70's via inSSIDer 2.0. If I travel more than 15 feet or so from a router, I still see the network being within range and the RSSI goes to about -60. The other two computers and my phone still are a breeze browsing the web at this distance, but the x220 just acts strange. Sometimes I will get very slow data transfer, most of the time I'll see that I have a good signal to the network but it has the ! yellow icon indicating that I have no internet access. I tried this at my parent's house today with the exact same results. When I was on the other side of the wall the connection was great. I go down the hall and its gone (but still visible). I have used the recommended settings by everyone for power management, reset everything, installed new dr... Read more

I have a new X220, with Windows 8 added on to the stock W7.  After lots of time on this forum, I have learned to use the Intel wireless drivers not the Lenovo-distributed ones, and that there are lots of other applications from Lenovo that need to be updated or "adapted" to Win8. But worst of all, a 5-year old X60 has far better wireless performance (connectivity to the access point, and throughput) than my very new X220.  Atheros chipset in the X60 and Intel in the X220. What gives?  Is this the advance of technology?  My X220 suffers from drop-outs and the X60 reliably connects and shows throughput.  I mean like up to 8 Mbps.   Is there a substitute wireless card (mini-pci or whatever) that I can replace the Intel unit?  Any other options other than a 30 meter wire?  --J

My new X220 comes with an Intel Wifi 1000 bgn. The wifi would only work if the computer sits few feet away from the router. It would not be able to connect to the wireless router if I'm sitting one floor above the router, while my other laptops do not have any connectivity trouble.  When it connects, the speed could drop to very low even with "excellent" signal quality as reported by Windows. Any hints?

Answer:X220 wifi very poor performance

Make sure your router has the latest firmware for it.  Seen this a lot with router with original firmware.  The router gets updated and most problems disappear.

Hello Im a new user of a Lenovo Thinkpad x220 laptop I recently bought and I have a question about the Wifi driver for this computer. My x220 has installed the "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205" Wifi card running in a "Windows 7 x64 bit" system, and when I go to download the latest updated drivers from "support.lenovo.com" it gives 3 options in the "Networking Wireless LAN" section where I think the correct one for my card is marked in this picture:http://imgur.com/UqLwENow if that is the correct driver for my Wifi card my question is if it is right that the Wifi driver is a 500MB file.... I want to check with more experienced Thinkpad users if that is correct and that is the file I need to download and install.Because if I go to the official Intel website I find the driver for my Wifi card is version 15.1.1 dated 5/3/2012 with a 25MB file which seems a bit more logic for a driver file.So which driver should I download and install? I dont use the autoupdater lenovo driver manager software because I like to personally download and store all my drivers with all my computers, so any hint or clue about this question would be appreciated, because like I said it is probably the first time in my life I see a 500MB driver file, thats humongous to put an adjetive. Thanks for the help.

Answer:Question about x220 Wifi driver

The primary reason this package is so large is that it contains drivers for multiple intel adapters for both 64 and 32 bit OS's for Windows 7, Vista , and XP.  It's sort of an all-in-one package. If you use Access Connections use this package, if not then either this or the driver from the Intel website will work fine.

I've had this problem since new, and have reinstalled windows a number of times for unrelated reasons. When coming out of standby, the mouse is unresponsive for about 5s and it takes more than 20s for wifi to reconnect. Iinitially it tries to connect, then drops, then goes through the whole process again before connecting. I don't have this problem on other model Thinkpads, wifi connects immediately out of standby. Seems like it might be a driver problem. All drivers are up to date.

Hi everybody, I ran into some issues with my X220 some weeks back and have been trying to fix them to no avail. As far as I can remember I took some time a few weeks back to install the 1.40 firmware-update and also updated the battery-firmware in the same routine. I'm not sure If it was immediately afterwards (since I'm using a dock with LAN), but the wifi-card (Intel 6205) wasn't recognized by the OS anymore. No entry in the device manager! Here's what I've seen/tried so far:1) What I was firstly able ot see was that the device would sometimes show up after returning from sleep when not in the dock.2) Since I have an Ericson WWAN-card i switched mPCIe places. WWAN-card works in both slots. No recognition of the Wifi-card in both. >> So it doesn't seem to be related to mPCIe or the board.3) My guess was a faulty card, so I tried a newly-bought Intel 7260 Wifi-card in the slot.3.1) The Wifi-card must have been recognized by the BIOS, since the whitelist-fault was presented and I had to remove it to even be able to boot again.3.2) As the warranty wasn't my concern anymore anyways I flashed a whitelist-disabled version of the 1.40 firmware. As promised, I was able to boot with the 7260 card.3.3) Yet still, the card is not presented in the device manager.4) Since my Windows 7-installation had quite some time on its shoulders I reckoned that maybe another OS would be able to properly recognize the card. I just freshly installed Windows 10 and again - not... Read more

Yet still the cards are somehow (I guess) not made available to the operating system. On another note: I've just noticed that I posted in the wrong forum section. Hello, about week or two ago, I maybe finally found solution to wifi connections problems on specific routers in channel N mode (Intel wifi card). I wanted to assure myself, that my method works (atleast for me), so I've been waiting last few days. Now, wifi is still stable and I can rely on it, however it sometimes takes a bit time to connect (does not matter, if I resume from sleep or simply power on). Access Connections works fine as well, no needs to remove it. Step 1: Create system restore point (I can't provide warranty, however in my case on X220 and E130 this method works) Step 2: Download driver for your Intel Wifi card (to prevent You from having none as you uninstall current version). Open this page, select your card, OS and choose file, what's name contains ...Ds... (for example, Wireless_17.1.0_Ds64.exe). These files with such a letters contains only whole driver without any additional applications, and they have worked for me better than the rest. I would like recommend you to download the latest driver version. Reason is simple - I hadn't tried older versions. Furthermore, new versions should fix some security problems. Anyway, if you are not really IT professionals (I admit that I am really not), then choose, like me, the newest version. However, if you want to try older version, don't forget to tell others about your result!  Step 3: Uninstall current Lenovo wireless Wifi driver, Intel PRO/Set and so on. Interesting, I have been battling with this issue on my X220 for more than 6 months now (since i decided to run software update (after long time not updating anything) and this problem started...

I tried uninstalling, reinstalling drivers, cleaning stuff, to no avail. I also tried intel wifi drivers and it didnt make any difference...

But I never stumbled upon this, two separate driver sets, S and DS... Do you happen to know what's so different about these drivers that makes it work?

In any case I just swapped out the Intel 6205 card for a broadcom based one after flashing a modified bios that removes the white list for lenovo approved adapters.

And I've not had any disconnections yet. I'll keep this in mind in case I upgrade to a Wireless AC card in the future, which will likely mean going to an Intel card, unless I find a broadcom based one.

Answer:X220 with thinkpad b/g/n wireless (1x1 bgn)x1 bgn) wifi adapter

when you buy the X220 from US online store the upgrade from 1x1 bgn to 6205 was only around 15 dollars. It is definitely worth the upgrade from the 1x1 to the Intel 6205 (the 6300 not so much). Especially if:1. Your wireless hub doesn't have a powerful antenna.2. Lot of other people are using the same 2.4 ghz bandwidth. 3. And you can live with 150 mpbs (usually around 75 mbps are more common) transfer speed.

So my X220 with the Intel 6205 card is having issues reconnecting to WiFi when resuming from sleep or hibernation. It takes about a minute for it to do so, though occasionally it will reconnect right away. Maybe 1 out of 20. When doing a cold boot or restart, it connects immediately upon the desktop showing up. This was not always the case, in fact when I first got my X220 in June, I have not had this issue.... In fact, I don't know when it started happening, but it was maybe a couple months ago. I just thought it was my old router going bad. Well I got a new router, and it still happens. I have the latest Intel WiFi drivers from Lenovo, and I even tried downgrading to the previous driver from Intel's site. Still the same problem. I tried setting a default profile in access connections, and that does not help. In fact, it behaves the same way if I totally uninstall access connections as well. In fact I tried this on three different brand routers, and I can reproduce it on all of them (Asus, Netgear & TP-Link) so I think this is not a router issue. Other devices in the house reconnect right away with no issues (iPhone 4, PS3, Mac desktop, Dell laptop). I currently have BIOS 1.24, but this was happening with 1.21 and 1.23 as well. My X220 originally came with 1.16, and I haven't updated it until 1.21. Unfortunately I don't remember that far back, if the problem started occuring then. There was a brief discussion about this in another thread, but it went nowhe... Read more

My brand new x220 was shipped with an outdated driver for the installed wireless card (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN). This resulted in extremely slow wireless browsing. After spending 4 hours changing settings on my laptop and wireless router I finally called tech support. They revealed the outdated driver, and showed me where to download the update. This solved the browsing problem. I understand keeping drivers updated is important, but I didn't expect a brand new computer to use two-year old drivers. It's like Lenovo shipped a laptop with "some assembly required, but didn't include the instructions. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Answer:x220 Shipped with outdated drivers (slow WiFi)

So did my old Dell long time ago. It happens and no biggie to install the new updated ones.Your X220 has an driver update in Lenovo device experience when you click on Start > Click on Lenovo Device Experience > click on Update and drivers.  This will guide you in downloading any newer drivers.... Of course there maybe newer ones just coming out and the update site takes a while to catch up

I've read from various places that Lenovo whitelists WLAN/WWAN cards in BIOS. What level of whitelisting do they do? Will this block all aftermarket cards? I'm interested in installing a Killer 1102N Wifi card (primarily because of the control over the network stack the driver provides the user with). Will I have any problems with this? Do I need to hack my BIOS etc? Heres a link to the actual wifi card product http://www.bigfootnetworks.com/killer-wireless-n-1102/  I'm only purchasing this aftermarket because Lenovo doesn't actually offer this card in their notebooks

Answer:X220 Tablet + Killer 1102 N Wifi Card?

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unauthorized_MiniPCI_network_card

The reason for the whitelist is to match the card to the antennas to comply with FCC regulations regarding interference.  Most mfgrs. do the same thing.  The link explains it fairly well.  The card has to be Lenovo branded.  You can take the exact same two wireless cards and if one is not Lenovo branded, it will throw the error.

And yes, you would have to modify the bios.

But in order to have the radios work again I can't just turn the switch back on. It never works. I have to restart Windows and then it works. Is there anything I can do to not restart Windows? Thanks

I've had no issues with my X220 for the past few years, been running great to the point that I completely stopped updating the drivers or the bios...

About a month ago I decided to do an upgrade in the System Update software, just get everything up to date. That included the latest bios, and all the other drivers...

Now since I've had an annoying issue with the WiFi (Intel 6205), where after coming out of sleep, it will disconnect from the WiFi after 15-30 minutes randomly. It ALWAYS happens, and it doesnt matter if it's idle, or downloading or streaming anything. It doesnt reconnect on its own, i have to cycle the wifi switch and it will reconnect, and stay connected for the remainder of time until i put it to sleep again.

There was another WiFi update since, and I installed it, and it didn't help... It's not an access point issue, as I've tried this on several WiFi routers and it does it every time...

Anyone have any idea what it could be? I dont feel like reinstalling, as everything other than this works perfectly.

Hi.  My X220 works perfectly in most situations. Most Wifi access points I connect to work just fine.Whenever I connect via WWAN I never have any issues. However:  there is a certain Wifi access point that my X220 cannot stay connected to.  It connects, then about 4 minutes later, the connection is dropped, and the only way to reconnect is to reset the centrino wireless adapter.  It does not matter whether I use Windows Wireless Services or Lenovo Access Connections.  After I do a reset, the connection will drop again a few minutes later.  A connection drop means an exclamation point appears with Limited Connectivity warning-- to be clear, at this point, there is zero internet access, until I reset the adapter.  This can go on forever, it does not matter if I reset 12 or 20 or 67 times, the connection will still drop after a few minutes. To be clear, in this location, every other Wifi enabled device works flawlessly.  Other laptops, iPads and iPhones all connect to this access point without incident and remain connected with excellent performance.  This is *not* a case of a defective access point.  In this location there is access point "NETGEAR" and also an extender "NETGEAR_EXT" For some unknown reason to me, my X220 cannot stay connected. About 2 months ago I sent my X220 back to Lenovo for replacement of the wireless, so I don't *think* the problem is because of the wirelesss card. I have trie... I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

Not at all sure this is a Lenovo X220 issue (win 7- 64bit), but I'm having the following problem with my 1tb WD My Passport Essential SE USB 3.0 external drive: It works fine when plugged into the USB 3.0 port.  However, if I safely eject it, and use it in a USB 2.0 port, it will not be recognized if I go back to the USB 3.0 port.  I can usely get it working again in USB 3.0 mode if I reboot. (I have two of these external drives, and the behavior is identical for both of them). I've tried lots of different things, but still can't solve this issue.  Are there any newer USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 7, or for the X220, that I should be installing?  The only one I see for USB 3.0 on the Lenovo site is for the Nec controller. Again - not saying this is a Lenovo issue, but I don't have another computer with USB 3.0, so I was hoping people might be able to tell me about their experience with USB 3.0 and the X220.  Thank you.

I updated the USB 3 drivers from Lenovo - even tried a later version from Renesas, but no resolution of the issue. Would be interested if anyone else out there is running USB 3 external drives in their X220 - if so, have you ever used the same drive in a USB 2 port? Thanks.

Good Morning to all of you! I'm searching for some advice for some problem which is troubling me lately. It's really not a big deal but it's bugging me: Every time I boot my x220 it will take 2-3 minutes to connect to my wifi network. I know it's not a big secret that all this lenovo tools installed are slowing down the computer and as a consequence the wifi software will be started with a delay but maybe someone of you knows a way or two to work around this? Maybe I can somehow prioritize the start of the wifi software? I appreciate every advice I can get.

I recently transferred a large amount of files from a USB3.0 capable portable HDD and a superspeed USB3.0 cable. When plugged into the USB3.0 slot on my notebook, the transfer rate was shown as only 48MB/s instead of the theoretical 5GB/s. I tried plugging into the 2.0 slot on my notebook, and the transfer rate was shown as 36MB/s. Any idea what could be the problem here?

Answer:X220 USB 3.0 speed issue

The theoretical speed is if both ends are able to sustain that speed. At best, a spinning hard drive will provide up to 60MB/s-120MB/s under sequential reads, and up to 0.5MB/s-1.1MB/s under random reads. Hence, the USB 3.0 bandwidth will not be fully saturated.

Use HD Tune's trial and run a benchmark on the drive while attached to the USB 3.0 port.

Hello, I have been having an issue with my X220 freezing. This tends to happen relatively randomly, however I have noticed it more frequently under these specific circumstances:Plugging in the computerUnplugging the computerWhen there is a shift in the speed of the fanThis is not to say that the computer always freezes under these conditions, but this is when I tend to notice it most. To describe the issue further, when I mean that the computer freezes, the screen locks up and I cannot move the mouse with either thre trackpoint or pad. I cannot use the keyboard either, with neither esc, cntrl-alt-del or any other combination of buttons functioning to make the computer come back to normal. The only way I can "resolve" the issue is by doing a forced restart my holding down the power button. After it restarts, it is fine, at least until another freeze. Another issue that I've had that may be related is that for a while when I closed the lid of the computer to put it to sleep, the computer would shut down. I've checked all of my settings regarding power management and what the computer should do when the lid is closed, and it was always set to put the computer to sleep when the lid was closed, so that is not the issue. As a temporary solution I've now changed that setting to have the computer go into hibernation when the lid is closed, which does not cause shut downs, but it is obviously less desireable than just having the computer go to sleep. I called Lenov... Hi,i just think that fan pulsing issue maybe needs new thread here because some major problems  pointed here http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X220-fan-constantly-on-revving-up-and-down/td-... are with new bios (1.16) solved. So, as many user may experience - thinkpad x220i (i3), but also other x220 series have this fan pulsing problem. If you put your ear at the fan area you could notice every 3-4 sec some sort of pulsing/beating. This pulsing is gone between 1954-1972 RPMs by my x220, but at all other RPMs i can hear it, or even feall it with my hand on keyboard.I uploaded the sound of this pulsing fan here:http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/110463-X220-Serie?p=1092014&viewfull=1#post1092014 You can hear it with headphones an 100% Volume. My manager uses the offline files feature quite a lot and now she has moved to an X220 with Win 7 Pro 64-bit, however some days when she logs in she notices the sync icon isn't in the tray. When you go into offline files it says its enable but not active a restart will activate it. However rebooting leads to the same thing, instead I go into the services page and find that although set to auto the offline file service is not running, I click start and it kicks back into life. Now I have viewed the event viewer from when the computer starts and the Offline file service first starts then gchanges state to auto (delayed) then changes back to auto before finally saying that the service has stopped. All of these are info events as opposed to error or warning events. I know some services don't run even when set to auto as they are not needed however without offfline files service running no syncing is done and you also lose the "Always available offline" option when you right click a folder/file. If anyone has any ideas as to whyt the service is stopping that would be great. Mark

It is caused by a bug in "RapidBoot" which is software that Lenovo preloads.  You can either (a) uninstall RapidBoot or (b) upgrade to the latest version which fixes this bug.  I recommend (a) - you won't miss RapidBoot by uninstalling it.  Sorry for your inconvenience.

I've played youtube video w/ chromium on xubuntu 16.04, pressed pause while being in fullscreen mod and closed the lid as usually. When I opened it, everything ran very slowly, all animations were stuttering, exhaust air was pretty hot, fan spinned at full speed, but there was less than 8% CPU load and 1 GB of RAM used. What I tried already: rebooting, taking out and putting back the battery, loading previous kernel version from grub menu. Then I swapped ssd with another laptop in house, which had windows 7 and xubuntu dualboot. Both systems ran slowly on x220, and xubuntu from x220 ran good on other laptop, so my conclusion was: there's a hardware problem with x220. Then I turned off Intel SpeedStep and CPU power management features in bios and turned on again, nothing changed. I put back ssd with xubuntu in x220 and ran dmesg console utility, this is what output looks like: https://pastebin.com/YREFCZQZ but I can't make any decision from this data. What should I do next to deal with this problem?

My X220 doesn't seem to detect headphones properly.  Sound comes out of them instead of the internal speakers, but the audio mixer still shows the device connected as "speakers."  My old laptop could detect when headphones are plugged in and kept separate volume levels for headphones vs internal speakers, should the X220 be able to do this? I'm running Windows 7 on an i5-2520M with 8GB RAM.

Answer:X220 Headphone Detection issue

Actually this made me curious, so I checked out my X220, and indeed it worked like you described. However, I found a way to change that to provide the effect you're looking for. In Control Panel, click the Smart Audio icon. This will bring up the Smart Audio panel. Click Audio Director, one of the bottom icons. This brings up two choices, Classic & Multi-Stream. Changing to Multi-Stream recognizes the headphones when plugged in, and indeed maintains a different volume level. Hope that works for you!

Hi I recently flashed my BIOS (going from 1.26 -> 1.31) prior to installing Windows 7 x64 on a new SSD on my X220. The BIOS update seemed to work OK (I used the lenovo Windows utility to do it), but now I can't save any changes to any BIOS settings. I also cannot reset to defaults - I can't even select some options in the BIOS (e.g. anything to do with UEFI) - the cursor just skips over the lines on screen - and those I can select don't respond to any changes I try to make. I don't get any errors either in BIOS or in Windows, and my X220 boots OK, but obviously there's something wrong there. After updating the BIOS, I installed the SSD (a Samsung 830) and installed Windows on it - all this worked OK although I was planning to switch to UEFI for the new install and couldn't do so because the BIOS is now uneditable. Everything in Windows seems to work OK. I've tried re-running the BIOS utility but it reports that the BIOS is up to date and it won't re-apply the current update.  I've checked to see if anyone else has reported this issue here, and found a few reports with similar issues but different situations (e.g. people running Linux rather than Windows, or Wifi not working after the update) - but not this issue exactly. I'm wondering if this will fix itself when a new BIOS version is released and applied - if that's likely, I'm happy to wait until then (so long as nothing breaks in the meantime). I'd rather do that than pull the CMOS battery ... Read more

Hi, For few weeks now, I have been experiencing a very frustrating battery issue with my X220. Usually I put my laptop in hibernation while there is still a good battery capacity (70-80%) at night (or before going to work). On the next day, when restarting the laptop, both Power manager and the windows gauge are indicating close to the same percentage as just before it was stopped the night before. Then after a random time, ranging from few minutes to a hour or so, windows will notify me that the battery is at a critical level of charge (6%) while just before both Power manager and windows indicator were showing something like 60% remaining. At that point windows shows 6% while power manager still shows the previous level of charge (let say 60%). After few minutes, Power manager indicator goes all to 6% and then the PC hibernates.  I think that my issue appeared after I updated Power manager, I reinstalled it including its driver with no luck...I am now performing a battery reset to see if it helps. I read several other posts regarding similar issues on the lenovo forums, it was suggested that some battery cells might been faulty and that a battery swap might solve the problem. However, as far as I read, it seems that people who performed a battery swap were still experiencing the issue. I wanted to know if there were any know fix for this battery issue or at least what steps I should be taking to investigate/debug this issue? ... Answer:Battery issue (6-cells) with my X220

To get the obvious out of the way, when your battery life suddenly drops off, are you watching YouTube or surfing Flash-heavy web sites? Yeah, a sudden drop-off in indicated battery life sounds like a driver issue, so I dunno...maybe you could try rolling back the battery driver or Power Manager. (There's a way to roll back the driver via Windows Device Manager, right? Just make sure you don't uninstall the driver through Windows; there should be a button to click for "roll back driver.") I suggest making regular full-system-image backups of your X220 while you're working on the drivers. With my old x100e, I got myself into trouble after uninstalling AMD Catalyst Controller, and it just refused to reinstall. Do you think like...a battery calibration would work? Go into Power Manager, Advanced, then Global Settings. Go to the battery low/critical section and click the box that says "do nothing" for when low and critical are reached. Power Manager will force the computer to run, even though the battery will broadcast a 0% level remaining. (And just to be safe, run the calibration with everything closed, use Power Manager to set the CPU to "low," and set a video looping in WMP or something like that, at brightness 11 of 15.)  It's not too healthy for the battery (to deep discharge), but if you get 3-6 hours in that test, it'll be safe to say the problem's in the software, either something hogging CPU power or a driver issue. I've done it a bunch of times, but... Hi, everybody! I have I strange problem. My ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software was working fine a few days ago until I had to uninstall the software. I had to uninstall it because my x200 had a motherboard problem and went to service. Meanwhile I used the HDD with another notebook. That's why I had to remove the fingerprint software. I got my x220 back and I tried to install the fingerprint (along with all other software and drivers) software, but I'm getting this message and the installation stops: You have currently installed another version of fingerprint software. Please, uninstall your existing software before running this installation. Actually, there's no sign left from the fingerprint software. I removed it via the Programs and Features menu, I entered BIOS, removed all the fingerprint data from the new motherboard (although I believe that was not quite necessary since it's a brand-new motherboard). All other drivers and software installed fine, without any problem. Has someone else encountered a similar problem? I'd appreciate it very much if you help me somehow. Thanks!

Hello,I've been using my X220 for almost 2 years now and now all of a sudden, whenever I use my x220, my wireless internet would stop working (at random moments) what happens is:first the network i am connected to becomes limited and any program that uses the internet gives me an error  message saying there is no internetthen all available connections disappear from that window that tells me the networks i can connect tothen when i try to turn my wireless radio off and on (via FN  + F5 )  i get a popup saying no network adapters are supported by the lenovo softwareafterwards i try to reset my wireless radio via physical switch (on the right side of my x220) but nothing happens. the only way to "fix" this issue is to reboot. is there anything i can do to fully fix this issue?

Answer:X220 Issue with wireless internet.

Hi, lilvietyao
Have you ensured that you have the latest driver software for your wireless adapter? If not, the latest drivers can be found here. Also, which operating system are you using?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hi everyone,  I have a problem with the wi fi connection in my laptop, the computer doesent read the wirelees divise. when I click Fn F5 all I can see is the bluetooth adapter, no wifi adapter to turn on or off, this have been happening reacently, yesterday I downloaded the drivers and nothing, then I restarted the computer several times and it began to work again but after I put the laptop in stand by the problem came back again, now im using a datacard to connect to the internet. Thank you for your help.

Answer:Thinkpas X220 Wi Fi connectivity issue

Hi,it seems I have the similar issue with my x220 and wifi card Intel Centrino 1000 - sometimes after laptop resumes from sleep wifi card disapears not only from control window after Fn+F5 pressing, but from Device Manager.I think it's a power management driver related issue but can't explain why. Or some tool from Hotkey Features Integration package doesn't work properly. I've noticed several times at this moment monitor driver (in Device Manager too) didn't work also. But the biggest and the most trouble is laptop can't be rebooted or turned off correctly - every time when wifi adapter disapears after 5-7 minutes of tasks closing I get a BSOD with Power Management error message. Of course, wifi adapter works correctly after laptop turning on.And another one trouble - after I've deleted Access Connections wireless devices control window (after Fn+F5) can't be opened with error message. What I did?1. delete and reinstall Hotkey and PM driver manually. No effect.2. delete Hotkey and PM driver, reinstall them using System Update. No effect. These issues are very unpleasant but I don't want to revert laptop to the factory stage.x220, win7pro 64 bit, bios 1.19, drivers and OS updates are up to date.

My laptop screen has developed a vertical grey band about 10cm wide which starts very light but as I leave the laptop switched on gets increasingly dark and when dark I can see effectively a shadow of a previous image on the screen, making it very difficult to read. I'm concerned that it may not simply be a screen replacement issue as there seems some comment that it may be a connector cable issue.  Any ideas?

Hi,I tried to find an answer to what happened to my X220 last week end. Suddenly it stopped being able to wake from sleep. Power button "breathing" green ring present, but it was not waking up by opening the lid or by Fn key press. When powered off by long press of power button, it booted successfully. This behavior was reproducible always. I thought maybe BIOS reset could help and I did it. After this it did not POST and it beeped 1 3 3 1 pattern - which is, according to documentation, system board or RAM. Having known the RAM was fine, I did pull them out and tried both modules one by one with no luck. So I took them out and went for original, small module, the machine was bought with. And it POSTed successfully with it. But after removing this module and returning the old, big modules, it POSTed too. And waking problem disappeared. Should I be worried about system board? My machine was made between Sep and Dec 2011, could it be early manifestation of dead EEPROM? Is there any way to test it?

I have updated to latest version 15.6.1 from 15.03.1000.163 (Windows 7 64 bit)http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015011 I have disabled virtual wifi hosted network by 'netsh wlan set hostednetwork disallow' command that always worked for previous driver versions. This version installed two adapters 'Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter' and 'Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2'  that appear in Device Manager and disabling the hosted network no longer works. The netsh disallow command reports ok but 'netsh wlan show hostednetwork' always reports Allowed state. I have tried to remove the driver at all, restart and install it again but the issue persists. The only fix is to revert back to previous one 15.03.1000.163 I think this is a security issue that has to be resolved because the hosted network can not be safely disabled.

Hello, I recently purchased a x220 and I am very happy with it. I turned off  "sleep when closed" for some reason and then accidently left it in my bag for like 15-20mins. It was hot but didn't really smell like burnt plastic or anything. However I feel as if the screen is harder to get at the right brightness. It feels as if I have to get a very precise angle to view the screen at the proper brightness/clarity. However it is hard for me to say if there is any difference to before as this happened only a week after using it. It could be acting just fine and I am just paranoid so my question is has there been any issues that have come up like this before? Has overheating in a bag or something ever caused the LCD screen to function just slightly improperly? Thank you,

Answer:x220 got hot, and now screen display clarity issue?

Well, first of all, I hope you're talking about the basic, TN LCD display, not the upgraded "Premium HD" IPS LCD screen. Anyway, personally I feel like it's so easy to be paranoid about screen quality and possible minor screen damage or defects, but Lenovo has owned up to the "ghosting" issue, so things can really happen sometimes. In your case, I wouldn't worry. Provided you are indeed talking about the basic TN screen and not the IPS, it sounds like your screen's viewing angles are performing normally. For some extra confidence, the Notebookcheck review of the X220 says their test unit got so hot under the sun that the plastic began to warp and bow, and even then, they didn't mention any screen degredation. And for that matter, isn't the X220 Mil-spec tested for heat? http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-X220-IPS-Subnotebook.55639.0.html

I recently purchased a Lenovo X220 and I am attempting to setup a dual monitor with it and a Samsung Syncmaster BX2331 monitor. When I change the setting to extended desktop on the secondary monitor the laptop monitor starts having issues. The useable space becomes bigger than the actual screen so I can scroll up and down while on the desktop. It will also scroll left and right and the desktop icons will move over onto the secondary monitor. The laptop has a resolution of 1366x768 and the monitor is 1920x1080. I am trying to explain the issue the best I can but it's a little hard to explain.

Answer:Dual monitor issue Lenovo x220

I know what you mean, it happened in XP when you set the screen resolution larger than what the screen was capable of. What cable are you using the connection to your secondary monitor? On the secondary monitor, press the auto calibrate button, or it's equivalent, and then unplug the VGA/HDMI cable and plug it back in see if that fixes your problem. it's also worth trying going into the settings and checking the button that says "hides modes not supported by this monitor" If you don't know where that is, right click on the desktop and click "screen resolution" then click advanced and at the bottom of that pop up you should see that check box. Those are the first things to check.

I purchased this unit June 2012, following update recommendations through Lenovo Solution Center since that date.  BIOS 1.33.  Recently installed Crucial 256gb mSATA SSD.  TrackPoint and TrackPad worked fine until yesterday.  I also use a Lenovo Bluetooth mouse, purchased three months ago, and all three forms of GUI cursor navigation worked fine until yesterday.  I used a wired USB mouse to navigate while (1) uninstalling and reinstalling the Bluetooth mouse drivers. (2) I found a thread on this site that spoke of disabling and re-enabling the TrackPoint and the TrackPad in the BIOS.  When both are enabled, neither works.  When the TrackPad is disabled, the TrackPoint works.  When the TrackPoint is enabled and the TrackPad remains enabled, nothing works.  I have uninstalled the UltraNav drivers and installed the current Synaptics driver (from their site), 16.2.21.0 dated 10/26/2012.  I then alternatively disabled and enabled TrackPoint and TrackPad in BIOS as above, and the result is the same. I've deleted the driver subdirectory that contains the UltraNav driver.  I did that before installing the Synaptics driver.  When I use Lenovo Solutions to search for updates, it asks me to download Synaptics UltraNav driver 16.2.5.0, which I then download and installed.  fn-f8, however, says that both TrackPoint and TrackPad must be enabled in the BIOS for UltraNav to work.  When I do that and press fn-f8, I am ... I wanted more capacity so foolishly replaced my trouble free 256gb Samsung 830 SSD with the 480GB Corsair Neutron GTX SSD on my Thinkpad X220 (should have stuck with Samsung) and whilst the Neutron GTX is hyper-fast, its giving me a problem. When i try to shut down Windows 7 (Pro 64 bit OEM), the notebook freezes at the "windows shutting down" screen (happens around 1 in 5 times) and i'm forced to remove the battery or hold down the power button to switch off the notebook. When i switch on the notebook again i get the message:"2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)"Pressing escape a few times does finally take me into Windows and everything works ok until i get the same issue again a few shutdowns later. I've formatted the SSD and re-installed Windows 7 again (in AHCI mode) but the problem still exists. This issue did NOT exist with the Samsung 830 SSD. The BIOS is up to date, ALL hardware drivers/firmware are up to date. I'm thinking perhaps the Corsair SSD is faulty so will test it in my desktop to see if i can replicate the issue. But before i do that, can anyone suggest other possible solutions?

Hello ThinkPad-Community, I have a sporadic issue with the brightness control, thats mean sometimes I start my laptop from standby and the control with "Fn+Pos1 or FN+END" doesn't work. There is no reaction and no on screen display progress bar. Also in the default Windows 7 energy settings is no control of the display brightness possible. If the issue exist, only a complete reboot of the ThinkPad solve the issue. I've also found some discussions about this in the internet but no solution helps realy. NOTE: My Laptop has a complete clean install of Windows 7 and all drivers was installed by Lenovo System Updater.Does anybody have the same issue? Thanks for your help

This is an on & off issue that creeps up on various Thinkpads. It was very notorious on my X120e, but it doesn't happen on my X220 at all, and I sleep/resume it all the time...It's a bug they can't seem to correct.

I am fairly technical and usually able to troubleshoot most problems, but I am stumped.   I have had intermitted loss of internet connectivity since shortly after (maybe right away) I bought my X220 a few months ago.  The machine will lose internet connectivity and regain it randomly.  Other machines working through the same router will have internet connectivity and the X220 has no problem directly connecting to the router.  It does not appear to be a DNS issue since I try pinging 8.8.8.8 as a test.  I am able to log into my router just fine though.  It is very strange that the router connects to the internet, I connect to the router but the computer doesn't connect to the internet.  I assume this has some software component to the problem, but don't know what. The issue are worse when I am using mobile broadband, but still occurs at my house.  System ConfigurationX220 4286CTOCore i5-2410 2.3ghzWindows 7 64bit Home PremiumBios: 8DEET50WW 1.2 7/7/20114GBIntel Centrino Andavnced-N Wimax 6250- Intel Centrino Andavnced-N AGN Driver v14.0.1.2 12/21/2010- Intel Centrino WiMax 6250 Diver v6.2.1007.26 1/18/2011Other Network Adapters Installed- Blueooth PAN- Bluetoooth RFCOMM Protocol TD- Hamachi Network Interface- Intel 82568LM Gigagbit- MSFT Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptner- PDANet Broadband AdapterHave Access Connections installed

hey daveboston, welcome to the forums.it's hard to say what's going on here but if you could, could you uninstall the current network drivers (wireless and wired) from your system and then let win7 install its generic drivers. Also remove all other network adapters that you have listed.once generic drivers has been installed, test your unit with your router via wireless as well as wired connection. see if there is any difference then head over to http://support.lenovo.com , download and install the wired and wireless network driver for your unit and test again.

Hello,

I've purchased the Lenovo X220 laptop with the Premium HD IPS display and I do have a problem with it (see below).
Laptop was purchased something like month ago and I've spotted this after I've started to work with it more heavily but after 14 days, so I was not able to return it to the seller (http://www.lenovoonline.cz).

When you put backlight to maximum you see that the display is not evenly lighted and forming bright spots on the bottom of it. It's most noticable on the black background.

I've sent notebook for repair (http://www.pcnet.cz) with this description (translated to english):"With maximum brightness set and the black display/background (eg. BOOT screen) on the bottom edge of the display there are visible white spots/maps. Small but visible and not even with different sizes. It's most visible on black background and while limiting external light (darker room, working in the night). Spots highlights even more when you try to pull the display towards you into steeper angle."

The laptop has been in the repair for 2 weeks and the result was this description:
"This kind of display is very sensitive to any pressure, and it will result in the brightening the place. It is specific for this model line and it's not the reason to warranty repair. We recommend to lower the brightness level in the darker room. Check of the display frame has been done and no problem has been found."
Later they said they've re... Read more

Answer:X220 IPS display backlight issue (with photos)

Yes, at maximum brightness level the backlight bleeding is very visible but I use it at 5 or 6 level where it has excellent contrast ratio considering how crappy current notebook displays are in general. The uneven backlight is caused by fancy LED backlight which is still not able to deliver similar quality regarding uniformity as good old CCFL backlight (that's why professional LCD monitors still rely on W-CCFL backlight). But I agree that the top-left corner is way too much bad and might indicate that the panel is seated badly in the frame. On the other hand my old IPS panel in R51 also have backlight bleed at maximum brightness level. Major problem is that Lenovo is still not able to fix the stupid bug with brightness level always set to max in BIOS screen that the backlight bleeding is very visible and irritating everytime you boot your machine. IMHO, the X220 IPS panel is still much better than any ugly contrastless TN panel Lenovo puts into ThinkPads (except 15" FHD). I bet that you would hate the X220i TN panel more than this one  There are also two different revisions of the IPS panel, the second one fixes problems with image retention. As for comparison with Z60m, X220 display lid is much more fragile so the panel is not protected well against pressures and flexes. In any case panel flex should affect the backlight bleeding temporarily only. If it persists it is subject to repair (replace, reseat etc.). Unfortunately I don't have any good low-ligh... Read more

Ok, I'm posting this as a separate thread, since it was so strange.Upon learning about how to get full power to the headphone jack, by clicking on the headphones in the SmartAudio control panel, I enabled it. I plugged in my 90watt ultraslim and the x220 started making a terrible microphonic whine, like it was screaming, almost. The sound was coming out of the back of the laptop. Also, the battery refused to charge. As soon as I disabled the headphone boost, the laptop accepted the 90watt ultraslim and started charging as normal.I'm holding on to the 90watt slim for now, since I only use it for charging, but now after this last find, I think I have to get more compatible adapter... Yes, JameZ, I will make a video displaying both isues for engineering.

I have not been able to 'plug in' my AC adaptor properly for almost 6 months. It always slides out a little after plugging in. At first, it was just a tiny problem and I managed to wiggle it manually. But now I cannot even charge unless I wiggle it for a good 10-15 minutes to find a good 'spot' then physically hold the cord in place. I thought it was the AC, but having tried a new AC adaptor that changed nothing, I started to think it's the DC. Called Lenovo today,  but was told that DC is not covered by warranty (although my machine is still under warranty). I don't know why it's not under warranty, as quite a number of threads have reported this issue here. Anyway, Lenovo asked me to just find a local service provider if I want to have a check up and change the DC (not keen on sending in the machine), but would changing the DC affect my warranty? (If it requires opening up the machine..etc). p.s. Lenovo Switzerland is very unhelpful in this regard (called them 5 times and was passed around to different people), so I had to post the question here. Thanks in advance.

I've been having this awful issue with my X220 recently.  Whenever the microphone is active, whether in a skype call, recording audio with some random flash app, or just viewing the microphone settings it causes the audio output, whether from the spakers or headphones, to cut in and out in a really odd fashion.  It won't completely cut the audio off, but rather go in and out of playing the audio normally to this weird status of playing audio like it's somewhat muffled.  If I go into the audio devices and disable the microphone the problem goes away completely, but it only really occurs when something is using the microphone. All of the settings in skype and windows relating to letting applications control audio and reducing volume for calls have been disabled as well. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio drivers, and am up to date on bios and everything else.Windows 7 x64

(original bios 1.28 I think, new bios 1.4).The wifi card is no longer detected by the system at all, indicating the firmware has disabled the card. I managed to force it back to a previous BIOS revision but the issue persists, I then rolled to 1.4 official again and have tried the modded bios v1.4 (without wifi whitelist).I have tried the original card in a different unit and it works, and have tried the spare units wifi card (same model card) in this X220, also not detected. So it seems the BIOS is still blocking all similar Intel cards. Interestingly if I try a Broadcom card from a different model Lenovo, it is detected in the mini wifi slot.So this confirms the slot is operational.I cannot use it however since it is a full size card and does not fit in the mini wifi section in the x220.Last idea I had was to try all the cards in the 2nd (full length) slot but that will not pick up any Wifi cards at all. Anybody have an idea where to look to enable the Intel cards again? I have seen mention of a pin which is used for this but surely with the modded bios this should not be an issue? Note that with any of the intel cards inserted no devices are detected in Dev Man, and no option to switch them on via Fn+F5 (wifi option missing) Thanks for any suggestion... Answer:X220 wont detect Intel mini wifi, detects full size Broadcom, BIOS 1.43 w/o whitelist

HiWhat's the wifi card model, its p/n, Lenovo FRU? If this card isn't approved to use in x220, do you get the lock screen with error 1802 message during the laptop booting with original BIOS? Regarding the patched BIOS any question should be addressed to its author, it's not a deal of this official forum.BIOS v.1.4 wasn't released ever. Intitial, factory released version 1.04 dated 2011 year is outdated. The recent version is 1.43. It's impossible to rollback this version to any previous version, 1.28 including.

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

Answer:Dreaded Win10 WiFi Issue: Can't enable WiFi after Upgrade

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

Hello, While cleaning the keyboard and lifting up the space bar the centre white bumper was broken. See photo (sorry for the poor quality):  Now the space bar will only work if pressed directly in the middle and with extra 'force'. What should I do? I could try supergluing the disconnected pieces...if this does not work is my only other option to order some kind of replacement piece? Thanks.K

Answer:X220: space bar issue due to broken centre bumper

I'd just get a replacement keyboard, they aren't that expensive. Plenty on ebay.

I regularly use Lenovo update to check for any new drivers/updates. After an update to bios 1.25, my computer attempted to reboot, but it never really shut down. After 15 minutes of just black screen, I pulled the battery to force it off. When I attempted to reboot, no POST, just black screen. The Thinklight and green lights will flash, but nothing happens. So, I called Lenovo, and went through some basic troubleshooting which did not help. This all happened on Sunday, January 29th.  On Monday, January 30th, I called Lenovo again, and they said it would take about 2 weeks to :- send me the box- I send my laptop in- They fix it- They ship it back to me. I couldn't afford to wait 2 weeks, so Lenovo suggested me to find a Business partner locally. Lenovo site led me to Microserve in Burnaby, BC, Canada. I dropped it off on Monday, and they called me back on Tuesday to let me know that the mainboard needs to be replaced and ETA for the part is February 2nd, Thursday. Work will take 1-2 business days. So I waited. No update on Thursday, Friday or Monday (February 6th).  I called Microserve and they then told me that the part is not available, and they have no idea when it will come. They said they will look into it. So, I called Lenovo directly and asked them to follow up with this business partner about the part order. Today, I received a call from Microserve, telling me that the part MAY arrive in 2 weeks, and they will fix it WHENEVER the... There's a 48-page discussion on the backlight bleeding of the x220 on the Lenovo forums (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Faint-Ghosting-on-X220-IPS-screen/td-p/435201). There are also many smaller threads regarding problems with the x220 IPS screen and to a lesser extent the x230 screen. I recently purchased an x230 and experienced bleeding. Due to my onsite warranty IBM support came and replaced the screen- but the new one still had bleeding. Another engineer came out, brought a new back-panel (because the flex of the panel seemed to be causing it) and said "this isn't broken- I have seen lots of x220s and x230s with this problem- its a design default". Could I challenge Lenovo to provide me with an x230 IPS screen which does not bleed? I cannot believe Lenovo released/designed a laptop with such a glaring (no pun intended) fault. Has anyone here got an x230 (or x220) IPS screen where there is absolutely no backlight bleeding on a dark background?

Answer:All x220 and x230 IPS screens have backlight bleeding issue?

All X230 and X220 LG IPS will have some degree of bios bleed, it is just matter of severity.

My x220 tablet is haveing issues with the graphics card shutting off. I purchased my x220t about 3 months ago and I have begun to have a reacurring problem. I will be running CAD 2011, nothing 3D, and the screen will spontanneously go black. 5 seconds later, it will restart and an issue report will pop up in the bottom right and corner of the screen. This issue is a real problem since I bought this laptop for engineering and with an i5 processor, CAD sould be running fine. I did not expect the graphics card to be a limiting factor since I am only using 2D visualls right now. I have tried to find similar if others have had a similar issue but I can not find anything. What should I do? ps, I have a screen shot of the info but I am unable to post it.

Answer:Lenovo x220 tablet graphic card issue

hey jwismer, could you uninstall the current graphic driver for you unit; let windows install its generic drivers and then test your unit with your CAD software.does the same problem occur?later, head to http://support.lenovo.com and install the latest graphic driver that is available there.

Hello, With the X220 Tablet, if I have a secondary display attached and the desktop set to 'extend the desktop', then touches are displayed as being invoked on the secondary display, even though I am clicking on the primary (tablet) display. Does anybody else get this effect?

Answer:X220 Tablet: Issue with touches and secondary display

Yes, received my x220 yesterday and have the exact same problem! This actually means that you cannot use touch when connected to your external monitor, which is NOT good!!! I do hope a technician can come back to us about this. Henrik

Hi,

I want to report issue with Lenovo X220 and Lotus Notes 8.5.x.
Problem is that Lotus Notes has missing some of its buttons.
Example if you try to forward message send button is not visible untill you refresh screen by pressing F5
I think problem is with Intel display drivers.

If you uninstall driver and use "standarg vga" all is working ok.
I have tested all Intel drivers that you can download on Lenovos site but everyone have same issue.

Also tested this with multiple computers and all have this same issue.

Any ideas?

I have issues connecting my Laptop to the Wifi router in my house, however, there are no issues connecting to other routers? You would therefore assume that the issue lies with the router at my house. However, every other device and laptop connects to the router at my house with no issues at all. So it seems to be specific to the combination of my laptop and the router at my house. I have been having these issues ever since I downloaded Windows 10. I fixed it initially by downloading an old driver for the Wifi on my laptop. This fix lasted for about 3 months but since the latest windows update, the issue has come back. The issue is intermittent wifi where it shows I am connected to the Wifi but then the internet doesn't work. It says "DNS probe cannot be found" when running troubleshooter and then it resets the wifi on my laptop. This can temporalily fix it, sometimes for 2 seconds. Sometimes for 2 hours. But then the issue comes back. Does anyone have any clue what the issue might be or how I might fix it? Sometimes, when I run the troubleshooter, it says that I have missing protocols. But then this doesn't happen every time. I have tried a variety of fixes that I have read up on in forums but none seem to work permantly. One thing I haven't tried is a clean install of windows 10 which is something I am very reluctant to do and also, have my doubts as to whether it would actually resolve the issue.
Many thanks,
Joe

Answer:Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

It all depends on location, location, location. Some Gateways are just garbage. If you are not getting a strong enough signal, get an Access Point. Also you need to make sure that you are not on a congested channel, which is usually Channels 6 & 11 for 2.4 Ghz units.

Good morning - This is mostly directed at Lenovo Support Staff, but also to those with a X220 Tablet or similar. After hours of troubleshooting, I finally found the cause of my Windows 7 Pro Shutdown issue. The Tablet would hang at Shutdown, then BSOD.  I systematically removed drivers until I found the cause. The current installed version of the Thinkpad Tablet Button Driver, Version 1.04.0.0 as installed by System Update was the culprit.  As soon as I uninstalled that driver, no more issues. I have yet to try the driver that is available from Windows Update - if I have a similar issue, I will go ahead and update this post. Hopefully this will provide some enlightenment to those few who've had to track down a similar issue, and let's hope Lenovo will respond. *Edit*I realize this is in the wrong forum.  Can the Moderator please move it to the X-Series Tablet Forum?  Thanks

We discovered this problem in early August with our new X220 tablets.  We have a 1-to-1 tablet pc program.  About 75% of our freshmen class has experienced this issue.  The tablets are running on battery power with the extended battery slice.  The units will spontaneously just power off.  Not a clean shutdown but just a power off.  The batteries are in various states when this happens, most of the time both batteries are almost fully charged.  I've witnessed this dozens of times with the students in my classes.  We found out that this also is affecting another high school in our consortium.  We bulk purchase our tablets with several other high schools.  The other high school that is experiencing this issue has the same model and the same manufacturer date 6-11-2012.  We estimate 200-300 units are affected between the two schools.  Lenovo product engineers are working on finding the source of the problem, but we currently have many frustrated students and parents.  Just curious if anyone else has seen this issue with X220 tablets and slices that were manufactured around the first part of June?

Answer:Sudden Power Off Issue on X220 Tablet with Battery Slice

My X220 tablet with a splice battery has the following issue: If you don't set the laptop down very gingerly while holding the external  splice battery firmly against the laptop, it shuts off entirelyYou then have to take out splice and main battery and put them back in and rebootPower mode set up is hibernateIf you use sleep mode, it shuts down if it shifts around a little while in backpackFor such a rugged design, you wouldn't expect this to happen.  Any ideas on how to correct this? thanks
